California governor gavin newsom trounced the effort to remove him from office in tuesday's recall election but the rosie result may obscure and erosion of support among latino voters for democrats. That has some in the party worried about the future. Donald trump got a historic number of latino votes in two thousand twenty. You can claim it was because of this or because of that. But it's not. Because when the podcast aired chillers description the app stated that millions have made trailer videos alongside huge global stars. Such as kevin hart despite kevin hart having no presence on the app and deed shriller effectively concedes his point by removing mr arts name from the truth app description after filing this lawsuit. Therefore this statement on actionable so awkward just search. Kevin hart on trillard proved me wrong. This is probably the most gamble. This is the one we're most worried about me and and my attorneys were we. We had a lot of deep conversations about how we're going to fight this one. Of course the most damning evidence. "Today's august twenty second twenty twenty one and today. I'm going to share a few tips and strategies specifically for those students who are taking classes with me this semester. This fall twenty twenty one semester. If you're listening to this podcast and you have any experiences or insights into how you're sharing course content using trello and you want to share that feel free to reach out to me and my twitter handle it be in l. e. z. Today's podcast is going to be actually a screen share. So if you're interested in seeing the the video that i provided my students showing them trello walking them through the steps that they can use to filter different cards filter different content different ways of viewing the course content that we're using or that we're including in trello. I take a look at the video. Which i have embedded in the show notes of this podcast so today i want to share with you the audio of the video that i created and again this is specifically for three courses that i'm currently teaching this fall. Twenty twenty one semester discourse analysis a communicative abilities in english. Course which is a first semester course designed to help students practice the four skills and a listening and speaking course which is for pro peduto students those who are just entering into the university Before they get into the a program they can take a one year pro pedantic Well one year program that includes proper duty classes that includes listening speaking which is of course. I'm currently teaching a reading course. Writing course grammar course in culture course. All designed to provide students a lot of exposure to the english language and again the course that i'm teaching listening speaking specifically focused on those two skills merging those two and This semester with all my students. I'll be using trello in this video. That i'm about to share the audio that i'm going to share with you here. Today is to design to guide students into give them some strategies in filtering through and accessing different course content that is being included in trello so without further. Ado let's get into it. Those of you are taking class with me. This fall twenty twenty one semester. Wanted to spend a few minutes talking about how you can navigate around trello as you know all of the course content and all the activities that we're doing we'll be in trillo and we've talked a little bit about some tips that you can use to help you navigate around the different Content that we have here. But i want to provide a couple of additional tips as we are getting into the class and and i feel you're you're getting more familiar with trello. I want to give you some additional tips on how you can find certain pieces of information. Let's say that you want to find an assignment that you want to that you need to complete but maybe you're having questions about will wear the assignments are and how to locate those. The first thing here will show you. Is that when you go into the trillo board. You do have an option to toggle back and forth between seeing the labels or the names of the labels or if you went to hide them. You can do that as well sometimes. It's easy easier to see at a glance. The the names of labels. Especially if you're you're not sure about with the colors represent. I've mentioned this before though. Make sure that you have the chrome extension pro four trello. This will give you an option to view certain lists remember each list for purposes will include the the work that we're doing per week this week wine week two and so on and it goes all the way across horizontally right until week sixteen. Let's say that you don't want to show all of the list at once you can select the lists that you want by just clicking on and off those that you went to have appear on your screen. This is a function of pro for trello. So if you don't have this option again. Make sure that you've installed this extension. I think there's an ad on as well for fire fax if you're using that browser but there should work for any derivative of crown if you're using like opera or Brave or other other types of browsers. Okay so the first thing. I'm going to show you here. Is that by default. When you open up trailer as you know you will see the board view. Okay so this is the default view but sometimes especially as we're getting more and more content here within trello sometimes it might be more useful to view the same content in the calendar view. But notice here. I clicked the down the down arrow and selected calendar. Here you can see per day which activities are which content relates to that particular day or that particular week right so here for example podcast that might last one week will show as is. It appears here. Maybe there are some other activities that are specific to a day. And so this view might be useful. You'll still be able to access this card by clicking and viewing the content in the card as a papa easily. Go to each one of these. When you're finished with his view you can either select the x arrow or you can just go back to the drop down menu and go back to the board now. There are some other options. That appear here but i think for our purposes Either the calendar view of the board view would be the most useful. There might be times where the time line which is more like a gantt chart might be useful or you have the the days that appear here along the top and then you have all the the content that appears here and Or i should say the lists appear here along the left.

Somebody has the idea that we'll just put a guy in a suit and build models and having terr- those up instead of this tedious process of the stop motion. I guess it must have been the thing. That's a lot of work either way right you got to build all these all these sets. I guess it's still cheaper though because with the stop motion. You're still gotta build a whole tiny little city or village or whatever and then go through the tedious process of animating that right with this method you just build the set and then have the guy in the suit come knock it all down and they slow down the footage so that everything's looks sorta heavier as it's falling. Yeah i loved it. I was like ooh. This animation has mazing love. The house gets wrecks and then we go to oto island disaster petition group was having a meeting the first many meetings in his movie. That means they've pushed back the start date for in person classes. Others are enforcing lockdowns on students. NPR's Allison, Add Warney joins us now to catch a sub. Welcome back, Elissa. Hi, Audie. Start by giving us a sense of what college even looks like this spring. So more than a quarter of colleges have some in person element, so students back on campus or face to face classes. And as you said, campuses are seeing a lot of positive coronavirus cases on some camps on some campuses, they've seen more cases in the first two weeks of spring semester. And they did all fall, and the new variants are also showing up in the student population. So that's worrisome how our campus is handling that. Well. The most common reaction to the rising cases is a lockdown asking students not to leave their dorms except for necessities or covert tests. The University of California, Berkeley, which found the UK variant through sequencing, they extended their two week locked down for a third week. Caught up with Adam Ahmad. He's a freshman living on campus there and asked him what it's been like. You have sudden students in the dorms who are adhering to the T, who have not left there. No one except to get food for a week and a half Now, Personally, I cannot do that, by own internal. There's more important I'm not going to go into a group that has 15 people. But well, I congregate with a group of three other individuals who I know have been tested within the past, 48 hours and Nora wearing masks and more socially distance. Yes. Sounds like this is not uncommon, thinking he sounds a little exhausted by the whole thing. Yeah, and complacency among students is definitely an issue. Are there things that school's learned this fall that they're going to use this semester to try and control case numbers? Yeah, well, campuses are definitely getting better at this. You know those lockdowns are a great example. We did We learn last fall. It's must much safer toe to shelter in place, then to send students home. The other big lesson we learned was testing and how important it is, and many colleges have increased their testing capacity despite the high price tag to do so. Take the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. They now have mandatory testing once a week for all students. Here's Carmen Richardson. She's a sophomore, studying nursing their You know, it gives me hope that like now, everyone can get tested on campus really easily. And you know, people who do have to go to campus have to get tested to get into buildings. You have to be tested. But I mean, we're still so far from where we need to be. Carmen is actually one of the few students I've talked to that has received the vaccine, and that's really the next push for campuses to get their communities vaccinated. Some states have started to vaccinate professors and staff. But as Carmen said, we're still a long way to go. We've got a long way to go. What do we know about students taking online classes So about 40% of colleges are primarily online, but it's important to remember that even the colleges that have brought students back to campus. Ah, lot of them have many virtual classes. So I talked with Noelle Johnson. She's a freshman at the University of Illinois or banish champagne. She's in a dorm. But all our classes are online. And she says it can be kind of lonely people keep to themselves and it's like so strange because there's like 100 people on my floor. But I know there's so many people here and I just want to know where they are. And this is a student who told me before she started college that she had hoped to have a friend from every major, So she's she's a social person. It's just a very different experience than a lot of students imagined It would be. That's NPR's Allison. Ad warning. There's only so much the Fed can do

"The last time we heard from the Federal Reserve about interest rates between official meetings was October of two thousand eight the collapse of Lehman Brothers was still fresh the hazards of the financial crisis. Perhaps just then really becoming clear and let me be clear here for a second. This is not that markets are functioning. There is no credit crisis. There is plenty of liquidity. But there's also plenty of uncertainty about what the NAVA Corona virus might mean for the global economy. And so this morning for the first time in eleven something years the Federal Reserve cut rates between meetings because said chair Jay Powell. They saw a risk to the global economy and chose to act but PAL added. We do recognize that a rate cut will not reduce the rate of infection. It won't fix a broken supply chain. We get that. We don't think we have all the answers K. But we do believe that our action will provide a meaningful boost to the economy by more specifically it will support accommodative financial conditions and avoid a tightening of financial conditions. Financial conditions are things like stock indexes and bond yields of the value of the dollar. All of which Powell in the federal hoping and it will help boost household and business confidence with the caveat that it's early yet not a whole lot of market confidence was boosted today. Details at the usual spots in this program. But there is a slice of this morning's events that are worth couple of minutes here because before the Fed made its announcement. The Group of Seven finance ministers and central bankers came out with honestly a pretty bland statement. We're keeping an eye on things in essence is what they said so with that background. How then did the Fed go about making the decision to cut? And how audit be red that we call Daniel Torello. He was on the FEDS Board of Governors for eight years. Got There just after that. Two Thousand and eight cut we started with. He teaches now at Harvard. Law Mr Trillo. Welcome back to the program Sir. Good to be with you. Kai with the caveat as I said that you're not there When the Fed made its two thousand eight cut. Could you give me some insight into the mood in the room? Or the mood. I suppose on the conference call when the Fed makes decisions on the precipice of a crisis. So I suspect first off that a lot of preliminary discussions were held last week in advance of Chair. Powell's statement on Friday so I would expect that. This was a relatively brief meeting wedged between that g seven call and the announcement by the Fed in the late morning the mood was probably a fairly somber one and I again. I suspect without knowing that they didn't do anything close to a full go. Round with lots of analysis by all the members and remember the Reserve Bank presidents would would almost all if not all have been participating by video. Conference right Okay so so. The personal subjective question. Were you surprised when you when you read about this? I was a little surprised. A ASSUME THAT. In retrospect that what happened was when they set the G. Seven call. They figured that they were gonNA move. Regardless of what the g seven did. I was more surprised by the outcome of the g seven. Call which was about as little as you could have had such call the well the the markets sorry. Turner up the Marxist. This morning did not care for that. G seven call at all right because the G. seven basically said Yeah. We're watching right. Exactly and and expectations are obviously raised. And so I assume that the Fed intended to do what it did regardless of how that call came out But it probably did take at least a little. Bit of what positives they were looking for a way from the from their own move. Yeah so speaking of the positives they were looking for. They did not get any At at you know so far anyway Out of the market today Reading the tea leaves for me that would Ya. I mean clearly. It looks like people are worried that the Fed knows more than the rest of us. Know there does seem to be a little bit of. I'm just reading the market reaction the way you are but there does seem to be a little bit of that reaction mean to me the questions since in the last couple of weeks since people have been actively talking about this have been a couple one. How much and how does a rate cut at this moment? Actually help given the supply chain issues that the chair referred to and secondly to the degree. That one's munition is limited. Is it wiser to keep most of it to deal with the actual fallout when viruses receded? And you're fighting recession or is it better to kind of preemptively act now in an effort both to signal the markets and also perhaps trying to lay some foam on the runway last thing. And then I'll let you go to words fiscal policy. There is a whole nother apparatus of government that can affect the economy. It's Congress and the White House and taxing and spending. How concerned are you that we haven't seen anything from them yet? Well I mean this is kind of the story of twenty twenty in America right that that the political branches seemed to have more difficulty responding. And I I noticed the Secretary. Mnuchin said he's he's interested in working with Congress but it does seem as though everything is moving awfully slowly. Daniel Tarullo for Eight years a little bit more than that. Actually member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States now professor at the law
