"You know what's funny, I was listening to, I think it was NBA radio on SiriusXM. Today in the car. I think it was this one. And one of the arguments was LeBron didn't have a he got honored and it wasn't even one of the best LeBron seasons. It's not the all LeBron season team. That'd be like saying, you know, it just making it up. If a player comes in the league and jabari Smith comes in the league and starts dropping 40 points per game. You know, every season, but then in his 7th year, he's like at 38 points per game. It's like, well, you know, that wasn't one of his best years. He shouldn't have made the like, what are we doing? Like, it doesn't matter. As long as you're one of the best 15 players, it doesn't matter that it wasn't a good LeBron season. All you're saying is, man, even a not great LeBron season still pretty damn good. Like I didn't understand that conversation. No, that's not what the line is is. The line is in AR. Are they good? Is he good compared to previous? Imagine if that's what it is. Like if you were you better than LeBron's best season, if no, then okay, the do away with oled NBA, right? Okay, there's nobody on these teams. Yeah, no, no, I don't think anybody's gonna be bouncing their kids on their knees talking about LeBron James 2022 season. I don't think that's gonna happen, but it's not the all LeBron seasons team, so I just thought that was funny. A couple things. I would just say that is funny. Nothing do I add to that? A couple of things to the interests of our show here in NBA for an officer related to transactions, Trey young, by virtue of making the all NBA third team. He now qualifies for D 30% max tier on his extension, young had already signed that extension with that kind of designated player language in it. And now that he made it, he will qualify that extension will it will lock and settle when the salary cap actually settles. But as of right now, it looks like it'll be a projects to be a first year salary of 36.6 million. That's 30% of the salary cap in 22, 23. And a total of just over 212 million and had he not made all NBA. He would have gotten about a 177 million. So about $35 million or so for Trae Young, we'll move forward. So good stuff for him. And then a couple more guys impacted. Our guys who are under contract for a couple more years, but now qualify to do designated player veteran extensions or the so called supermax that's Devin Booker and Karl Anthony towns. "I think that's the top 9 in some order. However you want to do this with the two teams, which now leads to the second fund discussion. Who's in this tenth spot, which really can be is supposed to be a guard. And I had done Mitchell, and I think that's the right pick. Who do you have rob? I got to be honest, I really wrestled with this one in part because of Mitchell. I ended up with Trey young somehow. And I went back and forth on it and ultimately came down to this for me that I don't think it makes sense to hold it against Trey young that the hawks have been one of the worst offensive teams in the league. Like he contributes to that, but his jurisdiction, the offense has been off the charts, has been great. It's more of a maximalist approach in terms of him dominating the ball, but I think he's been so good at doing what he's supposed to do that I give him a little bit of an edge over Mitchell. And then I come back to if Mitchell or if Trey young were allowed to play with Rudy Gobert, what would that team look like? And could he do the things that Donovan Mitchell does and more? And I think the answer to that is yes. So Mitchell's 26 four and 5 46 35 88 splits, Utah is the fourth best team in the league. Trae Young is 28 four and ten. 46 39 90. There's crazy advanced stats for them too, and for a short guy his PR is really high and there's all kinds of good stuff with him. True shading all that stuff. It's possible that he's great and THT continues to thrive, and you just go, you know what? We're actually good. That's not outside the realm of possibility I wouldn't say that's likely if Jeremy grant's there and the opportunities there, but you got to find out what you got before you make a move like that. I mean, what level of THT and Kendrick nun would you need to see to pass on Jeremy grant? Exactly. You would basically have to see tonight's THT for the next month. Yeah. That's the first time I've heard that rationale for why they're not playing at Christmas. I mean, I just think that it's chaotic, but if they manage to, I wrote a story on the bulls, a long form story on the board. We're going to talk about the books because I read that story. The bulls and the city of Chicago, what they mean to the city, et cetera. Thank you. Zach, I appreciate that. But within that story, I had a quote from Zach lavine where he was talking about how he's basically never had the same coach from one season to the next really. That's basically what he was saying. And he was saying, I've managed to thrive throughout chaos, my whole career. And I guess in thinking about that quote, embiid has a chance to do that this season. And beat can be chaotic himself sometimes with some of the stuff he says and what have you. But if he's able to thrive this year and keep the sixers in the top half of that playoff conversation, top four seed, which they have enough talent to theoretically do that. They have enough cohesion that theoretically do that. And maybe not having Simmons there helps, you know, if they could trade Simmons and get something for him, it'd be even nicer. You know, so that they would have a little bit more talent and help keep them at the top of that conversation. But no, and beat had enough talent to win MVP last year. He just wasn't healthy enough. I feel like they're going to have to lean on him more. Part of me wonders, even with the what was it that he had Lester was an Achilles thing? They had last year. He was able to play through it in the plastic part of me feels like to some extent I think you're right actually, now that you say that, yeah. Yeah, part of me feels like he's adjusting a kind of managing his body in a way where he knows his limits a little bit more, and he plays through what he can play through and doesn't what he can't. So I think if they can manage him the right way and they win just enough, I think he'll get attention. And if he plays just enough he'll get enough attention positive attention to potentially win the MVP. To me, he's one of the only people left that hasn't won it. That seems like he's on a good enough team to do it. I don't buy Luca and the Mavs this year. I buy Luca. I just don't buy the math being good enough to potentially keep him in the race for that award. Yeah, history suggests you need to win a baseline level of games. Obviously, so the 8 kind of to me there's a group of 8 guys who are your favorites to be in the top 5. Okay. Embiid, Luca, you just crossed off. Yanis, who would probably be my pick, but I am wary of the bucks sort of decelerating his games played or whatever, but that could happen to all these guys gonna end up playing like 70 games and it's just a walk. That's gonna start becoming a normal thing anyway. Durant, harden, jokic, LeBron, and Steph. And then I think and then you get into like, I don't think the blazers will be in enough for Lillard to be in the conversation for a ballot spot, but not to win. I don't think the Celtics will win enough for Tatum or the wizards of wood enough for Beal. Then that leaves you with some interesting candidates. I think you want to hear my two sneaky MVP candidates. Yeah, listen. If the hawks are good, like really good, there's going to be Trey young deserves to be in the conversation of buzzing. I don't think Troy young is on the level of those first date guys, so I don't think he realizes a chance to win. But if the hawks are like 25 and 6 and sniffing a top two seat in the east and Trey young's averaging 30 and 11, there's going to be a young MVP buzz. Yeah. He would deserve it. I mean, quite frankly, now it is interesting. And it's interesting on a couple levels. You said we'll talk about, so I won't get into it too much, but what the story I wrote about the bulls, the framing that we use was kind of like the suns, made it to the finals, the hawks almost made it to the finals. And they did that just by adding a piece or two in their off season. It was basically the same chord they had. So why can't the bulls do that? And within thinking about that, a lot of the bulls fans that did not probably read the story, which I think was complimentary and even handed. We're saying basically, oh, well, you know, you guys are saying that Levine's not a superstar. And it's like, oh yeah, the bulls have had the worst record in the league for the last couple of years. But the interesting thing is that I think you have to make a jump as a team. Your team has to make that sort of jump to see people in a certain light. If they are a superstar and people just aren't recognizing it maybe it's because the team isn't winning. Trey was dealing with a lot of that. Traded make the all star team last year. So the idea of someone not making an all star team one year and then winning the MVP the next, I don't know if it's unprecedented, but it certainly would be rare. But it theoretically could happen. Certainly if they make that sort of jump and the cohesion the amount of cohesion in Atlanta has, the fact that they have a full year with Nate McMillan at the bench as opposed to having a mid season switch.
