"And then whoever you decide you don't want in the rotation, you're like, oh, would you like a very good Luis Garcia to just exist in the bullpen? Have that here you go. You have a very good Luis Garcia. Yeah, so that's a discouraging prospect. It looks like Malta NATO didn't hit the Mariners that well. It just feels like he didn't hit anyone well, Ben. No, but you've been by 14 auto standards. I guess you just maybe you just happen to see. I saw a lot of his hits against them. I think that I saw him maybe snap a long hit with streak against Seattle at a time when it would have been really useful for the Mariners to pick up some games against Houston. But I'm not saying it's science. I'm just saying it's how it felt. Yeah. So there's that. And then, you know, you think about things on the Mariner side of the ledger from a hitting perspective and they have some guys, but they also have their own share of outs that feel like they're stacked at the bottom of the lineup, right? Like once you get past tanager, it starts to feel pretty dicey. And you know, Mitch's kind of come and go sometimes. So, I don't know, I don't know about that, but then the bullpens get so that's good. Yeah, I would not be as afraid of rappy ray against the Astros as I was against the Blue Jays probably just because they were so heavily right handed. Yeah. But yeah. Maybe it'll be fine. It might be fun. Maybe it'll be fine. Maybe what will happen is that they will get they being the Mariners will get some surprising production from the bottom of their order and their big boppers will bop and Luis Castillo will throw another game like he did and Logan Gilbert will dazzle and the bullpen will hold on and then I will feel silly for not having applied for an ALCS credential. Like who could say, that could happen, it's not likely or it's not the most likely thing, but it could happen and that sure would be fun for everyone. What if calorie hits another big home run against the Astros? Do they have to build a statue to him this year? Do they wait, you know? Like do they? Do they go with something like really straight down the middle? It's Cal in like, oh I did it. Or do they go like abstract and like they do cow rallies face on like one of those digging construction machines that they're always trying to sell us on MLB TV because we have big equipment needs. I don't know. There's the literal big dumper that's cow but then there's like the figurative big dumper that is one of those but with his face on it. It did seem like a year or two ago that the Astros were going to go away eventually. It seemed like maybe the window was kind of closing like guys were getting older, coal was leaving Springer was leaving, you know? And it seemed like maybe I was Correa was leaving. Yeah, exactly, right? And somehow they just seem to keep being as good as they ever have, if not better, and they have Alvarez and Tucker who are still just 25 and Pena just turned 25, I believe. And then they also, in the rotation, Verlander, of course, is ancient, though you would never know it from watching him pitch, but everyone else in that rotation is still sub 30 and obviously like they still have a knack for player development and pitcher development, so suddenly it doesn't seem like the Astros are going to go away anytime soon, so they just kind of powered through it and let those core components of their winning teams walk and replace them often with internal replacements and. They don't even have Michael Brantley, right? He's heard imagine what it looks like I guess maybe you don't have Trey Mancini if you have Michael Brantley, but yeah, you just can't seem to stop the Astros either. They've almost become the Dodgers of the AL in a way. It's not quite as sustained success, but in the sense that you just always expect them to be there in the playoffs and maybe the cast changes a little bit, but there's some familiar faces where it's just like, yep, this is a consistent theme and storyline running through every October. You're always going to get the Dodgers. You're always going to get the Astros. We've seen these guys many times before and when they lose someone, they just work someone else in and they don't miss a beat. Yeah, that's true, Ben. That's the true thing about the Houston Astros. It's just continues to be a true thing. You can't even enjoy the fact that their farm system is ranked 28th by our metrics because Seattle's is 29th. Yeah, and they seem to have a knack for getting more out of players than people would expect and even like going into next season because the Mariners are ascendant and they had their season last year where they played a bit over their heads and contended, but they weren't really that great yet and then this season. They weren't that much better record wise, they were just good enough, but they were better in an underlying sense. And they're clearly on the way up and they worked in all these new great guys and there's a great future for the franchise, I think.

"I tell you what, that becomes a lot harder when you're facing the type of teams you're going to face into playoffs. So you better catch it and throw it. Yeah. So I'm giving you virtually no chance at least. Prove me wrong. Go ahead. Go ahead and do it. Prove me wrong. Everybody wrong on this one. Good luck. You ate proven me wrong. Houston Astros. I don't have a single fear this team is so good. Listen, I don't put it this way. We don't know Verlander is I'm assuming he's coming back, but we don't know if he's going to come. All right. And I still feel pretty confident and feel like they have no flaws. Because that's where they're deep as that. Is there starting pitching? And so they can, they can, they can maneuver their rotation to because remember, they got mccullers back. And that gave him that gave him like 7 pitchers. So they have plenty of that. Somebody can just slide to the bullpen come playoff time. They'll be a little bit deeper there as well. So yeah, I don't really have, I don't have a legitimate flaw. I guess the only flaw I would say is the health of jordana Alvarez. Okay. You know, he's having the wizard the wrist issues or the hand issues or whatever it is. If that's going to be a major issue, okay, that's your fault. But if it's not, then I can't think of anything. But here's a solved of the problem. If they don't have him, don't worry, they have Trey Mancini who they don't even play. That's right. What is this team? It's crazy. If anyone forget what I said about the Mariners, if anyone beats them in the AL side, it's a miracle. It really is. I mean, you forget that they even have man scenes. I know. You forget that they

"And by the way, they are still winning games since they made those trades of the much loved Trey Mancini and the loved but not as loved Pablo Lopez. Pedro Lopez, that's how much he's loved. I have his name already. How could you get rid of Trey Mancini? That was like, this team, well, all right. So let's just, let's just lose all the non die hard fans right now. I'm gonna go on a two minute Orioles rant. And then we're gonna move on. Buck showalter, look how good he's doing with the mets right now, and he was like the heart and soul of that team. I watched I'm all in on baseball now, by the way. I've been watching a lot of baseball. My wife thinks there's something wrong with me. And watching, I'm watching Manny Machado the other day. Play for the Padres. Like that whole team was just that the feel and the vibe of that whole team was so awesome. And then, you know, Trey Mancini was what was left of that, I feel like it was like our remaining sort of connection to maybe not necessarily that year, but just that vibe of being an Orioles fan. And now he's gone. So, you know, I don't know. Being a baseball fan, I feel like it's way harder than being a football fan because it's a 162 games. And they are much less, I don't know, tanking and not tanking. That's not really a sacred thing in baseball, right? So they're just doing it. They don't care. And it doesn't really matter to them. So that to me is harder to accept. Back to reality. And this book showalter, I miss Manny Machado. I miss Trey Mancini. And let's talk about the saints. And I'm as Jorge Lopez. "You've been going crazy on all star stuff. You know, every year I get a year older and I say, I'm not going to care as much about who makes the teams and whatnot, but it's still fun to debate, right? Buster. Oh, a 100%. And I'm going to follow up on a conversation I had with Tim the other day, which I think is relevant in our conversation today about, you know, guys who are not on the team and maybe how things should be handled differently going into the future. And I get the feeling you're going to agree with me. But before we get to that, let's talk about the Baltimore Orioles. The hottest team in baseball, 9 straight wins, two games out of the wild card race. Go ahead the floor is yours. Busker, let's just put it this way. Are you ready for that Mariners Orioles, ALCS? Wow. I was gonna give you a chance to rant about the Mariners, not getting enough attention, but you know, you went right there, go ahead. No, look, I know you and Tim talked about Baltimore on Monday, but how exciting is this? You know, even through April, we're like, it's gonna be another hundred lost year. They can't pitch, they can't hit, and here they are, 9 in a row, they're in the playoff race, playing in the toughest division in baseball. I don't know if they can sustain it buster, but things are starting to come together. You can see the future. We're gonna have another high draft pick first pick in the draft this year. It's really fun to see after the last four years of absolutely awful, miserable baseball. And you know, maybe they're for real. I don't know. I'd say this. They've now earned the right. The players and as they talked about with Tim on Monday, boy, you're happy for Trey Mancini and Cedric Mullins. You know, Brandon Hyde, you know, they're not through this whole conversation about the Orioles and what they've done in recent years in tanking. No one's ever blamed the players, right? These guys show up, they put in their work, they're trying to win every game that they play. So it's neat to see those guys have success. I think ownership now owes the players the addition of more help before we get to the trade deadline, right? And we know they have the financial flexibility to do it. What's their payroll? Whatever it is, it's at the bottom of the majors. You're right. Trey Mancini would be a nice valuable asset for a team looking for first baseman DH, but you're right. You can't sell out the players at this point. They've performed too well. You can't make those trades. Look, are they going to give away good prospects and a blockbuster trade? No, but, you know, there's holes on that team. They can still use pitching help. Maybe an infielder, you know, but yeah, try to add a piece or two at the minimum. Yeah. Because here's the thing. You and I know this is that by the time we get to the trade deadline, you have teams where they, you know, they know they're not going to win. And so if they can shed a little bit of payroll and help their bottom line, they will do it. And the question is on the flip side typically, which is which teams can actually add salary and I don't have a long list of guys that might fit this category at the moment, but there are certainly players. Guys who are headed in free agency in the fall where if you call that team and said, hey, we'd like to take on player X and the remainder of his contract will give you a bag of balls for him. Those deals can be made. And not just for, you know, the bad guys, I'm talking about, you know, good, major league players. Guys who potentially for the Orioles represent some upgrades. Yeah, that's a good point. We saw that last year Cleveland dumped Eddie Rosario to Atlanta for poverty in the ball who they immediately waved. So and that was like only saving a $1 million. How Cleveland operates, but you're right. There are those players that are out there where all you got to do is take on the money. You don't even have to give up a prospect. And there's some speculation that they might do a thing where they, you know, maybe trade a couple pieces strategically, Trey Mancini because he's headed to free agency. No, you can't do that. You can't do that. Now in the race. Yeah, look at that division. I just watched Toronto Seattle play four games. Blue Jays aren't blowing me away right now. They got some problems. The Tampa Bay lineup is horrendous right now. They're three or four guys sitting under 200 every night. So Baltimore can catch those two teams. Those two teams are not powerhouses like we thought. So they are in this thing. All right, I'm going to give you the floor now on your Seattle Mariners. Well, getting a lot of text from my Mariners Friends and as exciting as last year was, we kind of knew that team was a fluke, right? The whole fun differential. They were winning all those extra inning games. By some metrics, they were the best clutch hitting team ever, you know, but it was kind of a fluke. But this year, they're better. And they were 29 and 39. They were dead, buster. They were out of it. They look terrible. They had injuries, but now when I think they won 16 out of 19, Julio Rodriguez, man, buster, this kid is something special. We're going to see him in the All-Star Game. But the key has been the pitching, it's been really good Logan Gilbert's been great. Marco Gonzalez doesn't strike anybody out, but he finds ways to win. And the bullpen, once again, is doing the job. So, and they're going to get some guys back. They should get Mitch hannigan back after the all star break. Hopefully Kyle Lewis and, you know, Jerry de poto. You know he'll do something. Oh, a 100%. There's no doubt about that. And as we sit here today, I think we can say the same thing about the Mariners that we can about every other team in the American League east that it's running behind the Yankees. They're not going to win the division. The Astros are a great team. They're going to win the division. But I do think Dave that when you look at the way this is playing out and you have four teams in the American League, you were going to beat the crap out of each other 5 teams. They're going to hammer away at each other down the stretch. I think there's a chance the Mariners wind up as the number one wild card seed. Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me, you know, the rangers, the angels and the a's are going to play those teams a lot. They have a key stretch coming out of the All-Star Game. I think they have 13 games or ten out of 13 against the Astros and the Yankees. So that's a really big stretch right out of the break. That's why it's really key to try to get Hannah back in the lineup. Hit 39 home runs last year. But I saw something Carl Santana said the other day, you know, about the chemistry and the enthusiasm, probably wasn't a lot of that in Kansas City the last couple of years. And you see this team, they really do have fun and this was the same story last year. Guys like JP Crawford and Rodriguez just really good chemistry guys and you see that on the field with that team.

"Now, AJ preller is willing to move guys that you wouldn't think he would move and go after guys who you wouldn't think he would go after. And yet I look at the Padres and it feels like they need a bat like a Brian Reynolds would be perfect for them. I still don't think Brian Reynolds is going to move because I feel like the pirates are maybe on the verge of something. They're not there yet. But with O'Neill Cruz who looks at every bit the star that his tools say he can be. With Brian Hayes with Nick Gonzalez coming with Jack swanky, having all that power in the outfield and Reynolds there with some pitchers on the verge as well. I don't know, Pittsburgh feels a little bit like where Ken just city is, which is that you need to start adding guys to this core that you have in place. And you need to start spending some money. So preller loves to go for moonshots and Brian Reynolds at this point feels like a moonshot. But if he's willing to give up CJ Abrams, you know, at that point, the pirates have to at least listen. And he's been willing to give up top prospects in the past. I'm fascinated by the decision the Orioles are facing because they obviously this has been a year of progress. They're playing better. They're nudging toward 500. And on the other hand, this is their play in the American League east. They're probably four teams are going to make the playoffs out of the east. The oils are almost certainly not going to be one of them. What do you do? If you're the ownership and you feel like you're turning the corner and you have all these marketable players. I got to say, I kind of dig watching the Orioles, you know, just some of the reclamation projects there. I've seen Jorge Lopez fail a number of places and now he's throwing 99 with nasty breaking stuff in his first real full run at the bulb. But I trade Jorge Lopez. Trey Mancini is a superstar human being. And a great addition to any Clubhouse and a leader in Baltimore and someone who's been the Paragon of consistency. And I probably trade him too. Because the Orioles are getting to a point right now where I think they need to start running themselves like they're going to be here soon. Like all of these high draft picks, whether it's adley rushman, Colton cowser, we have seen heston Kerry stag come back finally. It's getting to the point where they have to start to try and win. And they're not there yet. So you remain, as long as the rules are in place, here you remain in asset building. Hate to say it, but not like they got a ton of fans turning out right now who they're going to scare off with this. And it's been a pretty grim situation there for a while and frankly, you gotta see the plan through. But we're getting close to not cutting time. They're in Baltimore. They need to start trying to be competitive, we've had enough enough tankage going on for franchise for a while. I wonder about Cedric Mullins. I think he would be, for example, a great fit with the Astros. You see where

"So dan baseball fans probably know trae mancini as this really good power hitter on a not so good team but can you give us a quick snapshot of his career before he broke out onto the scene in major league baseball. Yeah you know. He was never thought to be the guy so he had to keep working every single level to prove himself. He started out in high school in florida. Was when a really good team there but he was the first basement he was right handed hitter and so he didn't get a whole lot of looks. His name and number is up at his high school. You own the big placard but the numbers wrong. It's actually number eighteen instead of number sixteen which is number there. That's kind of almost indicative of the things that he is going through that he's always been kind of there but there's always been a player better on his team or something and he's always been kind of overshadowed basically he went from rung to rung to wrong in the minor league ladder finally made his debut in september of twenty sixteen and basically exploded those first few games that one in the left center this first major league his mom beth getting rather basis faster than anyone this year. Who is in a home run. And then she doesn't seventeen was fantastic and ended up being third-place rookie of the year behind. Aaron judge andrew benintendi and the american league. And just how good was he during the twenty thousand nine season. Oh he was by far the best player. When you have understand you thirty five home runs. You really broke out. Owering fly ball left center field. Hit hard by trae man cd way back in the wall goodbye homerun. He shouldn't have been there all star. But when your team is bad as your only get one all star pick and john means having a good season for the oriels as well so they went with the picture instead of me and seen but he was absolutely breakout. Star back at goes that god does get on the board o as bad cd hot getting a four point seven five million so huge jump and he was poised to be one of the better younger players in the american league. So heading into the twenty twenty season. It sounds like his baseball career and really his life. Were just integrate place. Oh yeah it was going exceptionally well for him in pretty much every aspect of his life including he and started dating a woman who had been one of the on field reporters for the orioles. Home runs for infield heads for you. What's the difference maker up to this point. I mean last year honesty. If you'd say perlman she's now works for nbc sports. She left the orioles in july. What does it mean to close out. Games like doesn't get the w. kind of you know not exactly how he drew it up towards the end there but and that was going really well at the beginning of a new relationship he just become a millionaire for the first time. Everything was going perfect for him. Going into twenty twenty and dan walk us through what happened in march of twenty twenty so like all baseball players. They get their annual physical when they get to the spring training camp and he did his regular physical bloodwork everything else and then around march i. The orioles athletic trainer came to him and said. Hey your blood's a little wonky like your iron levels are pretty much low you all the way throughout and basically saying you know. I don't want to scare you. But i think you're having some sort of internal bleed. That's coffee could be stomach third. It could be. Healy acted or you know. There was an off. Campus that I remember them asking. If i had a family history of colon cancer and i said yeah my my dad had died so they did some more tests and then they decided you know what we need to get your colonoscopy because things don't look right. They had the colonoscopy and they found a major mass in his colon.

Because mike hit the shot but to come up with the steel on karl malone and then take it to the other end score and win a championship that that whole that that the series of plays there defensively and offensively. We got a bunch of and it's not a championship jeeter against the as people love that. Play wait why would that was playoffs right. It was playoffs. I mean it was remarkable. First of all. It was a stupid play. By jeremy giambi because he didn't slided and he's probably thinking well. Gee not going to get to the ball. He's not gonna back. Hand the ball to home plate and then you get tagged out. So i'll give jeeter credit because he thought of making the play but i gotta put a lot of blame on jeremy giambi. Yeah paulie. I've always wondered if jeeter actually helped that play at all or just helped himself because that ball is going right towards home place and i know he grabbed it and through it and he looks like a hero but that ball. If you watched the fifty times it looks like that ball was going to go to home plate. All on its own and i. I don't know if he made it any faster by catching throwing but it sure worked out. Well for jesus all of course it did. I want to get on youtube. yes what else. Mclovin people sent in multiple tatum. Prince blocking reggie miller with. I think there's like twenty seconds left in a big playoff game. I can't do that to read. I know i've watched the highlight reggie called for the foul of very adequately. I might add But actually yeah. There are a lot of a lot for the rams titans game more than i expected on twitter. We'll see what the poll results are. Well and the mike jones play. I don't think he's he's not he's a yard away they said but he's not really a yard away but okay that was. That was a great an unpredictable super bowl but mike jones with the the stop. Okay nothing compares to malcolm butler. It just doesn't because you practiced this on wednesday imagine ballot check says to malcolm butler when you see this because earlier in the week he got burned in practice as as they're preparing for the seahawks and he said if you see this in the game go straight for the ball and when we talked to butler after the super bowl and two days later he said that they practice this and he went right towards the ball. And it's one of those where you knocked the ball down. He intercepted the ball and they ran out the clock and they won the super bowl. But i'm gonna get bella. Check a lot of credit for that because he said if you see it you know exactly what you're supposed to do. It's you don't have time to read. The quarterbacks is you don't have time to look at the wide rece. It's just go right towards this spot and it was unbelievable. I don't know if there's been a better defensive play because what's at stake the super bowl and you go back and you take inventory of brady super bowls. It could have gone either way like very easily. Could have won two more against the giants or he could have to less viteri. Malcolm butler gotta have those moments where somebody helps out and brady is certainly benefited from that standpoint. There's still pick when butler's making the pick as it curse on the catch trying to make the catch. Who was it. Who i think it was. I think it was curse. They both have their hands right there. Like it. Looks like a jump ball and then you see butler snags it pulls it in twists fascinating curses. So surprised i. He's he's thinking like is this another teammate. Think he can process this of what just happened because he was such a bang bang play. Is it curse paulie i. Yeah yeah it is and malcolm butler actually has a little side business where he signs autographs for that play. Oh they have a picture of him with the ball and side bid. hey. I don't know what happened. And after that super bowl in another super bowl with him but against philadelphia but that moment that stands that will stand the test of time and to be there underneath the goalpost. Because i think seattle's winning and then that's when they bring out the you know the platform where you're going to go up there and you're going to hand out the trophy okay. Is marshawn lynch. Going to score a touchdown is who's going to be the mvp p carols going to be on the stand is paul allen the owner actually gonna come down to the podium. I like all these things. I'm thinking because i'm watching marshawn lynch i'm right underneath the goal post and i look and i i'm just keeping my eye on marshawn lynch and then the ball snapped and all of a sudden rusk gets ready to throw in. I say in real time. Oh bleep. Because i'm thinking you don't want to throw it over the middle because could get tipped that that's the only thing i thought of. And then you see. I thought malcolm butler just knocked the ball down. And then i realized malcolm butler has the ball and then there was chaos because the seahawks i remember gronk nearly got into a fight like it was wild in the in the In the end zone there. And you're going. Oh my god. And then i started to now go. Okay now i got brady is malcolm butler the. Mvp robert kraft bella check will be there. A butler tipped a long thirty five yard pass. And i caught it picked up and kept running. Yup and we would remember. That's almost like julio jones you would remember. There was an unbelievable catch because he's down ground. And if tyree if johnston scored that touchdown that would be one of those. Oh by the way. That was incredible. Trey Mancini's Struggle and Strength

"Sedan baseball fans. Probably know trae mancini as this really good power hitter on a not so good team but can you give us a quick snapshot of his career before he broke out under the scene in major league baseball. Yeah he was never thought to be the guy so he had to keep working every single level to prove himself. He started out in high school in florida. was when a really good team there but he was the first baseman he was right handed hitter and so he didn't get a whole lot of looks. His name and number is up at his high school. You own the big placard but the numbers wrong. It's actually number eighteen instead of number sixteen which is number there. That's kind of almost indicative of the things that he is going through that he's always been kind there but there's always been a player on his team or something and he's always been kinda overshadowed basically. He went from rung to rung to wrong in the minor league. Ladder finally made his debut in september of twenty sixteen and basically exploded those first few games that one in the air left-center field has dave sadegh first major league at his mom beth getting your round the basis faster than anyone this year. Who is in a home run and then in two thousand seventeen was fantastic and ended up being third-place rookie of the year behind. Aaron judge andrew benintendi in the american league. And just how good was he during the twenty nineteen season. Oh he was by far the best player. Understand you thirty five home runs. You really broke out. Towering fly ball left center field. Hit hard by trae man's cd way back in the wall. Hey goodbye homerun. He should have been there all star but when your team is bad as your only get one all star pick and john means was having a good season for the orioles as well so they went with a picture instead of manzini but he was absolutely breakout. Star back goes that god does get on the board. O est back cd hot getting four point seven five million so a huge jump and he is poised to be one of the better younger players in the american league so heading into the twenty twenty season. It sounds like his baseball career really his life. Were just in a great place. Oh yeah it was going exceptionally well for him in pretty much every aspect of his life including he started dating a woman who had been one of the on field reporters for the orioles. Forget this you home runs for infield heads for you. What's on the difference maker up to this point last year honesty. If you'd sarah perlman she's now works for nbc sports. She had left the orioles in july. What does it mean to close out. Games like doesn't get the w. carnival. Not exactly how he drew it up towards the end there but and that was going really well at the beginning of a new relationship he just become a millionaire for the first time. Everything was going perfect for him. Going into two thousand twenty and dan walk us through what happened in march of twenty twenty so like all baseball players. They get their annual physical when they get to the spring training camp and he did his regular physical bloodwork everything else and then around march. I the athletic trainer came to him and said. Hey your blood's a little wonky like your iron levels are pretty much low you all the way throughout and basically you saying you know. I don't want to scare you. But i think you're having some sort of internal bleed that's causing. It could be stomach older. It could be healy activities. Or you know there. An can't that I remember them. Asking if i had a family history of colon cancer and i said yeah my dad had obviously they did some more tests and they decided you know what we need to get your co nas copy. Because things don't look right. They had the colonoscopy and they told me found a major mass in his colon
