"Guys, jumping to the present here. This year's Bengals team is headlined, of course, by two young superstars, quarterback Joe burrow, and wide receiver Jamar chase. Let's start with Joe burrow. His rookie season as every football fan knows ended prematurely with a terrible knee injury. What have you guys seen from him in year two? Just the continued Ascension of what we saw in year one, that offense was really starting to click and Joe burrow was really starting to come into his own when the injury happened. And so the thought was, is he going to go back and start year two the way he started year one and he has and he picked up right back where he left off and we've seen especially over the last few weeks where the coaching staff is kind of you don't want to say taking the training wheels off of him, but there was a little bit of a conservative nature where they're trying to protect him a little bit and use the run game and try not to get him hit as much. And then they just realized if we're gonna win, we're gonna need to put the ball and Joe burrow's hands. Throwing the other way. Jamar chase. Touchdown. And Joe burrow. Cold blooded in the fourth quarter. Set it up perfectly. They've been protecting in really two the defining games a win over the ravens and then a victory over the chiefs. In week 17, he combined for 971 yards. 8 touchdowns and no interceptions. It's an incredible run like you just don't see it. To the end zone touchdown Higgins. As he Pete Orleans ten yard touchdown strike. How the day Joe burrow and you have that guy you can beat anybody. Their offense is so explosive. This year, Joe burrow has thrown 15 touchdown passes of more than 30 yards, the next best in the league is Tom Brady with 8. Chase there is no chase. It's a touchdown. Nobody's going to catch him in the open field. 69 yards to go with a 72 yarder in the first quarter. They have this three headed monster what he calls the athletic freak shows on the outside with T Higgins, chase, and Tyler Boyd in the slot that has really turned them into kind of what lately has looked like an unstoppable force in the passing game. Coming out of LSU borough was also talked about a lot as a great leader and we've seen him give some pretty powerful public speeches. What insights do you guys have about his leadership specifically within this team and how it's impacted the locker room and the organization? Really, it's more impressive than 971 yards in a touchdown no interceptions. And that's really what's made the difference in this team. He's been the perfect fit here because this team needed somebody who had this overwhelming confidence that people gravitate to. There was never any thought of hey this team hasn't wanna play off game or they haven't been very good for a while. It was what can I do to come in and play good football and improve to the organization that I was the right guy to draft me and then prove to everybody else that I could be a really good player in this league for a long time? And people are just drawn to him. They love the way that he carries himself. He has this work ethic that is the stuff of legend and it has created this sort of team that has this ability to just, no matter how much they're down, no matter how bad it seems to be, they have a real resiliency to them. And that's because they always kind of know that burrow is going to find a way to bring them back, Trey Hopkins, bangle center said to me, he's eager for the fight. And it's not even just answering the bill. He's a guy that he's eager for the 5 years joys it. And he's the guy you want to follow because you look in his eyes and you see he is having fun. With your Los Angeles, the competition and he is having fun. He is the ultimate competitor. And it comes off as maybe cocky to the outside, but to everybody inside the building, it's not at all because they've seen the work that he's put in and they know how much he relishes it. And they needed cocky. The Bengals needed that attitude in a huge way and I think it's been the biggest reason why they have turned around and had their perception of their entire franchise totally changed. Well, you want a little insight on what Paul said about he's ready for the fight during the last year when he was hurt, he binged The Queen's Gambit. And he became a chess fan, and he has a chess board in the locker room and Cheetos is the best chess player on the team and he destroyed Joe burrow and Joe was asked about it this week and he said he didn't play him again for a long time because he had to get better. I mean, just a casual chess game in the locker room and he took it that series where I'm not gonna play you into I get better and with that confident cocky demeanor that Paul talked about, said, next time we play, I think it's gonna be different. Cut to Joe burrow lying in bed, seeing chess formations on the ceiling. Well, as you guys have mentioned, Joe burrow's favorite target this year has been his old LSU teammate Jamar chase. Chase set a Bengal single season record this year for receiving yards with 1455. He also scored 13 touchdowns, was named to the Pro Bowl and pretty much seems like a lock for offensive rookie of the year. As you guys have been watching him week in and week out, what in your opinion makes him so special? Well, I mean the talent number one, but I think he's got kind of that same mental strength that Joe burrow has. It doesn't come across quite the same way, but people may not be familiar with the night he was drafted, he said he was going to come to Cincinnati and break all the records. And that's a pretty brash thing for a guy to say who's never taken a snap in the NFL. And then he gets here and he can't catch anything. He's dropping passes left and right in OTAs and in training camp and I don't think anyone ever thought they made a wrong pick, but there was a lot of head scratching of what's going on here and then you get to the regular season and the first throw throwing his way is not an easy catch at all and he snares it and he's just been off to the races since then. Going deep Jamar chase he's got it chase to the end zone. That's a Bengal touchdown. And that deserves a while. He's done it all different ways he early in the year he beat people down the field for these long shots and then teams start trying to take that away and they hit him underneath and he breaks attack or two, and he's off to the races again. Look at that little bucket chase go. My goodness, what a gear he just found. Chase for the touchdown. Wow, chase is on the case. He can basically do whatever he wants and they are finding ways that work best in specific games. Well, the Bengals opponent on Saturday is the Las Vegas Raiders. These teams met in week 11, and since he pretty much stopped them, what were the keys to their victory in that game? And what will the Bengals have to do to get the same result this weekend? Well, as much as that looked like a stopping, that was a very close game for a long time and then they kind of went into that game with a mindset that they weren't going to expose Joe burrow to that pass rush that the Raiders have and they just ran the ball ran the ball ran the ball. It was really the defense that kind of kept them in that game until they're the dam will eventually break philosophy happened and they started hitting some plays in that game. You may see a similar approach this week because it's going to be cold. I think they're going to need to rely on Joe Mixon again, but I still think that they've learned over the last part of this season that the your best chance to win is with the ball and Joe burrow's hands, no matter how cold his hands are. And I think we're going to see them open it.

"You know the most talked about storyline during the off season into camping in the week. One was the offensive line. How are they going to look? Some new pieces added or some pieces? Moved at least and bringing in Riley Reef in the off season. Um, give me an a set big picture, and then we'll go. It's kind of a little bit micro. Give me a big picture sense of how you felt about the offensive line. I thought the offensive line performed adequately, You know, I think there's room for improvement, but again in the opener, and when you're going against a guy as creative and as knowledgeable as Mike Zimmer And who can throw wrinkles out there that are pretty dramatic, not just with his with his double a gap, but other things like Brian Callahan was talking about. He put a guy in the nose and that's not a big Mike Zimmer thing. Brian Kelly handed never prepared for Mike Zimmer defense. That was an odd look. They call that odd if they have a nose tackle, even if the center is uncovered in the defensive tackles are on the guards, so a different look. And honestly, when you think about it, it makes sense because Mike Zimmer's thinking Trey Hopkins. Uh, reconstruction. I've got piers Behemoth beast. I think I'm going to test Trey Hopkins by putting him on the nose and it's different Look, and we can do some scheming around it. So it's difficult. You have to go to the grease board at the sideline. You come out and trade hawkers like Coach coach Pollock I What are we going to do? All of our rules? You know, we do. We have rules. What do we What do we do with this big beast on my nose? And what are we thinking? Here? Get the grease poured out. Okay, let's make the adjustments. And that was one of my big keys to the game. You know, One of the keys was handled the gap. Who's going to run the football more effectively. Bengals did a decent job double a gap as well as a lot of teams do. They ran the ball better than the Minnesota Vikings did. And then the all important third was adjustments during the game coaching adjustments immediately on the sideline, not waiting till halftime but immediately on a series by series basis. Who's going to be able to make the quickest and best adjustments and the Bengals hung right in there, as opposed to, you Know, boy, all the experience Mike Zimmer and everything else. They hung in there pretty darn well. And I think, uh, you know, Lou in a room Oh, as as a more experienced defensive coordinator going against Clint Kubiak, who is the first time you just call and plays as an offensive coordinator? I think Luann Romo made some adjustments and and made things tougher. Clint Kubiak. Although you know again, not everything is going to be perfect. You go zero coverage on that fourth and four and they hit you right in the butt with a 24 yard touchdown pass Those things happen. Those guys get paid to their pros. And they Kirk Cousins has seen things and feeling the same things and they made a great adjustment. And, uh, in 1 69 snaps for each of these starters, each of the starting offensive linemen took all the snaps. Rightly Reef. I haven't had a chance to ask you much about Riley Reef, but to me Just my sense is he's a lunch pail kind of guy doesn't mean a few words, but my sense is, he's a guy that you love big time. Big time. Mike Zimmer loves him, Mike Zimmer said. You know, he doesn't say anything. But when he says something, everybody listens, You know, it's kind of Yeah, Yeah, no question, and Mike Zimmer said one of my all time favorites, You know, he's got a 280 acre ranch here in northern Kentucky Zim doesn't he gave Riley Reef The code to his gate the code to his house the code to his ranch coat everywhere, So he he just trust this guy. He made him a captain up there at Minnesota and you know he didn't. He didn't want him to go. It was just a salary cap scenario, and the Bangles stepped up in the Minnesota Vikings were in cap trouble, and Riley Reef was a victim of that so It wasn't that Mike Zimmer said. You've got to move on. You can't play anymore. And during that game after the Bangle scored their second, their third touchdown to go up 21 to 7 Riley Reef, you know, going against his former team, and I'm sure he had a lot to say that the other offensive lineman there's nothing like I went against the student practice. I'm telling you, this is his best move. This is a little bit of his weakness. Here's what you have to think about those kind of things on top of, you know other other tendencies that you know, coaches might have and all that all that Intel all that information. They picked up a quarterback on the practice squad that has spent the entire training camp at the Minnesota Vikings. You know, and Riley Reef and you know they had they had some Minnesota Viking Intel Trade wings. You know, I had some Minnesota Viking intel, so it's you know, And then, of course, Minnesota felt they had a lot of Intel. Mike Zimmer knows a lot about the Bengals organization, Paul Guenther, but they hadn't been around for a while. These guys were more recently with the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings game was important to Riley Reef, because no matter what you can be quiet, you can still be prideful. And this dude is prideful in his mind, they said Move on. And he wanted to stick it to him. Believe me, he wanted a pound salt up their rear end. So when when they went up 21 7. After the extra point, he's sprinted off the field from the sideline. He ran a 10 flat 100. I mean, that was his former celebration. He beat all the skill guys. He made everybody off the field runs to the spot on the bench, sits down his bench, takes his helmet off of the big smile on his face. Didn't say anything. I mean, here's the tree crappy if he has a mouthful of it, but that right there told me wryly Reef is rolling man that adrenaline's pumping and it was. It was good to see I and and all all the offensive lineman of responded to him. Joe Mixon has Joe Burrow has He has had an impact on this football team. Fred Johnson was inactive. Isaiah Prince was active. What did you make of that decision? Roster wise. I think that Frank Pollock is saying to Fred Johnson, you got to take it. More sailors seriously, Fred. You're a big, strong guy. Long arms, you know, range and all that. But Prince might have been the most improved offensive lineman from last year this year. Based on what Frank Pollocks been teaching him, he responded to the techniques. Uh very well. He's more athletic than Fred Johnson. Not as thick and strong but more athletic. And I think that Frank Pollock at this point in time trust Prince more than each trust Fred Johnson. And it's that simple. Now it's not to say that Fred Johnson is going to be the active every week. But for week one, Prince one that spot one that eighth offensive lineman is such the third tackle, eighth offensive lineman Got about a minute. Just a final quick thought on Jackson, Carmen and the track he's on and where his arrow, is it. Is it pointing up right now? In your mind, you know? Yeah. I mean, the Bengals activated him. And, uh and then they sat somebody that they're very high on. I mean, you know, uh, just cramped on his name number 70 for the Cincinnati Bengals. I will tell you, you know, I think I'll tell you here in a second. Yeah, they deactivated DeAndre Smith, who had a great camp from East Carolina. They were very high on him. He's got position. Versatility..

"He's relatively new. It seems like he's been here for half a year. We got guys that have come in and and just bought into the culture. We got tray and a bunch of guys. Riley Riley is like my best friend and I love that guy. Um, it's just a culture thing, and it's something again. It's It's kind of like little league. You know, you're in here. You're with your boys are having a good time. You hit the practice field. You're grinding. You come back in your boys again. So, um, it really is a different culture going on here. Dave Talking with C J. You, Sam and Dave. I think he kind of gets lost in the shuffle. We certainly have spent a lot of time talking about Joe Burrow and his comeback and Trey Hopkins in his comeback. I think maybe some people forget just what CJ has gone through to get back to this point Tours Achilles. You know, I mean, that's a tough injury, tough injury to come back from rehab from and he played well blocked well. They used them as a full back on occasion as a lead blocker in that regard. In the course of fourth and Scotch 32 Yard reception was a massive play in the football game. But you're right, Joe Burrow from the A. C L M c, l and even a Little PCL. The terrible triad little damage their reconstruction that need to play like he played. Trey Hopkins struggled a little bit, Uh, the Minnesota Vikings did a good job of isolating him one on one and protections on Pierce. Pierce beat him a couple of times for sacks very rare for Trey Hopkins to give up two sacks. This scheme of the Vikings was very, very sharp, very smart, obviously. And, uh and then CJ Asama Joe Mixon coming back from injury to play like he played so Nick Cosgrave and all the guys in charge of the rehab of all these players take about because a lot of your rehab patients came back and performed exceptionally well right away, and we've got about a minute. And while the Bengals may not feature the tight end as much as other teams do, and they've got Joe Burrow and mix it in the trio of wide receivers. There is still a place for and ineffectiveness to be used with with CJ. Use Almond Andrew sample that that can be a weapon. Still. Well, what happened? Uh, got the Vikings defense off kilter a little bit. Bengals came out Joe Burrow under center running the football with two tight ends. And and the Minnesota Vikings were expecting three wives They were not expecting. You know, 12 personnel one running back to tight ends. That's room for a little bit of loop, particularly with Joe Bar Owners Center. And in the kind of, uh that was a wise move the way they wanted to run the ball with the frequency. They want to do it, then play action off the boots and things like that nature at all kind of mesh together very well. And it took the Minnesota Vikings a little while to adjust the little wrinkles and nuances that the Bengals had course The Vikings had theirs as well. And we'll talk about some of those still ahead. We'll hear from Logan Wilson, Brian Callahan, the Bengals offensive coordinator, Tee Higgins and much more. Dave Lapham. Lance McAllister. Thanks for hanging out with us on this Monday night, we are dissect. Thing, a win by the Bengals. In overtime against the Vikings. It's Bengals line on the first Star Logistics, Bengals.

"I did not see that happening, and they were able to do so, uh, talking to James Rippin this morning. James with Sports illustrated and all. Bengals dot com. Ah, uh And you know the thing with the defense. Tell me, they really grant it's week. One. Um, they looked into it Looks like an entirely different squad because they were cousins all day. I think they had met. You said the penalties against the O Line alone. Kirk Cousins got sacked with three times and guys like, um, um Adobe, uh, easier and Mike Hilton look great. I mean, they just there were ball in the entire first half. They were. You know, we've seen it from him from all of camp. And it just translated right through the game, and he was right there step for step with a lot of plays Justin Jefferson, and that's the crazy part about this is what we've talked about. I'm sure you're asking me about chase at some point, but she struggles in camp. Well, Part of that is because he has made his life really, really hard and he's made it hard on him, and he's played really Well at a high level. I think he was MVP's so to speak of training camp and have one of those because of the way he played in a translated to the game we saw season against Washington and then it's certainly translated yesterday, so that doesn't bode well because Now you're talking about a secondary that if it was, you can be a legit number one corner and you have Jesse Bates in the bachelor area in the second area as well, along with the bell. And if this defensive lines getting somewhat of a push You have a pretty good group. You have a unit that you can work with. That can do some damage and that can change the game. Some so I think all you have to look at right is DJ reader. I mean, how bad a day to DJ reader have who normally doesn't have bad days. DJ reader. You just like he wanted to crawl into Iraq. You didn't think DJ reader played well? Oh, no, no No. Three, the three holding calls. What I'm saying is what he forced. All Okay? Actually. Yeah. You threw me off the holes in the two sacks. I mean, it's whether yeah, it means you know you're playing against this guy, and you're just having a bad day. Well, that's the crazy part. Two is It's not just reader, but you're right, like leader had a couple of them. Larry Ogunjobi got things started early, and he was getting a ton of push and then B. J Hill. Man. They get him in a deal for Billy Price and on paper. Great, like yeah, On paper, it felt like they won this deal. Look at what he has done. Well, he's got two sacks already Incredible 17 facts that they team last year, and they got to from their defensive tackle. That wasn't on the team two weeks ago, So those are the three That, you know, Reader, Okonjo, Vinnie and Hill. That is like man, that trio that's going to make it tough on opposing offense. That wasn't steel. Yeah, we're gonna have Mendelssohn's be happy, Billy Price we got. I don't know. A couple kicking tees a Gatorade bottle in like a Cockney crate. Great. Done. Yeah, I think the Giants are I don't know about kicking themselves because they, you know they were deep at defensive line, but the probably kicking themselves, um All right. So let's mom switch it up here to the defense. Absolutely spectacular. Jamaar Chase, of course, had his problems with drops in the preseason. That was, you know, he had a couple of couple targets didn't go his way. But You're finished with 100 yards and a touchdown. Pretty damn good. Very good. It's exactly why they drafted him. You know, to make those plays to be that game changer to lead the team in receiving on any given week and especially in the second half when he Higgins They be almost some cramp issues and not able to be out there playing and play out where you still want the offense to function at a high level, and exactly what it did was your mom. He's uh He looked apart. I mean, he's going up against Patrick Peterson. And you know a lot of the game, and when he wasn't getting targeted, he was blocking in the run game, And then he beats shock breathing for that 50 yarder, and I think it was just Catching one ball and it was that little outrun. He got that out route. Um, and he had two catches by the way in the Bengals first scoring drive That pretty hard past that to tee Higgins. Help get things going. And then right back at it a few minutes later with that 50 yarder, and I don't know what did you see that LSE tweet, But no, I think that they think up the touchdown pass from birth to chase from yesterday. To the one in the national championship game in 2020 against Clemson, and they look almost identical. It's It's a really cool. Um, Yeah, Okay, then. Now you know, we can't give it a positive because we're talking about the banks. The concern is how much concern is areas burrows here. What, five times? Um I think it's seven times that's got to be somewhat concerned. Now granted, you know you've got some new pieces in there. I watch the watch The Steelers dismantle my bills. Bills look terrible more on that in just a second. Um, but they've got an entirely new lines save one player and they look great. So you can't just say yeah. You know, we got to get a gotta get some chemistry here together. You've been playing the entire preseason What gives on the line? Well, I think it was partially the offensive line, but I don't think it was on the offensive line Would Trey Hopkins Got beat pretty bad twice, where where Borough got crushed, And so those are obvious ones, But it doesn't take an offensive line expert or an analyst to point those out to anybody that being said, I think there were times Remember was not miscommunication but mysteries and that could be on burrow where you don't know where the blitz is necessarily coming from because of how large disguise that where the pressure is coming from because of Mike Dimmers defense and it is confusing and I'm sure there were some times where we took a hit. I'm not saying three of the facts on borough or anything, You know his fault, but there might be a time or two, where he's under pressure quicker than he realizes. Because of the check. He made it at the line of scrimmage, so we'll see. But no, I agree with you. Five sacks is unacceptable. It can't happen. We can't see Borough limping off the field. He injured his ankle there and I know he stayed in the game. But I I think there's I don't think it's a coincidence that he stopped throwing the ball as much after that. And if you go back and you look, he was not pushing the ball down the field much and really, the 1 30 years, Mama. That that clinched. It was kind of it as far as downfield throws go, so we'll monitor and angle this week, but they Yeah, they got to keep them upright and find a way to do it. For the most part, I think they did a good job. But, yeah, it's tough against that Vikings from James Rippin on this morning on 700 wlw. He's with sports illustrated Bengals.

James Rippin Patrick Peterson Larry Ogunjobi Mike Dimmers Mike Hilton Trey Hopkins Kirk Cousins Jamaar Chase Justin Jefferson B. J Hill 100 yards Jesse Bates James Billy Price Vinnie Five sacks Mendelssohn Bengals yesterday Okonjo

"Well of Bengal snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and then victory from the jaws. Of overtime, baby. Today. Probably. I think the most exciting game of the week quite honestly. So Bengals representing or off to a start Saturday college football action Sunday NFL action Sunday was like Christmas morning. Getting ready for week one and joining. We had Dave lap. Um we had lap calling the game and now we've got wrapped James Rippin with the breakdown. James rippin from Sports illustrated all Bengals dot com. Good morning. How are you doing, buddy? I'm wearing any. How are you? I'm doing fine. Um So obviously it came down to 2/4 down calls, right. So you go for it on fourth down, Give the ball to the Vikings on the 30 yard line, sets up the TV to a feeling who exposed the mismatch with Eli Bad Apple and absolutely stupid call by Taylor like he was huffing glue. Then all of a sudden, later in the game, we're in overtime. Jesse Bates strips the ball from Dalvin Cook, one of better running backs in the NFL, two minutes fourth and inches, hits, his AAMA and the call of the game. Sets up the field goal. Great call. He looked like a genius Coach Taylor dead a tale of two tailors. So that's basically the summary of the game right now. It came down to 2 4000 calls. I did and honestly going forward on fourth them at first time, you're right it if you're in control of the game position at the same time, if you're going to do it, and Taylor talked about this after the game, maybe don't run it right into where the Vikings are hoping you run it on fourth and one and I don't mix it Swift. But it was just, you know, maybe that's when you run a little pie action or get the ball to someone that no, you're not expecting. Because if you're going for it there, you've got to be creative. Explain, James, Did you explain why he did. Sided to go for it on his own 30 with Game in hand. He's trying to end the game. That was that was just thought. Alright, Work two scores. If we go down and score here, it's over. It's fourth and one. We have all the momentum and I understand trying to be aggressive, but that's like mad and aggressive. We're going to do that. Then it's a little bit. Then you've got to have a play called that's foolproof and just running it up gut. You know, it's it wasn't up the gut. I think it was in the Yeah, That's a tough ask even though you are getting pushed all day. Tapping said the second one I was upset, so they had to place called in the huddle. Taylor called him like you said, and they want to sneak so they could have snuck it. But The thing is, is the way the Vikings will look. They showed it was like, no, we're not doing that. Because they're going to have guys here and here in both age gaps around Trey Hopkins, and so that's going to happen. Well, let's call this play. And oddly enough, Scott, they ran this play. Zero didn't like how they ran it, I guess in practice last week, so they ran it again and he threw to use drama. And apparently, they've run this play for three years or so since Taylor got here never got the ball until this past week at practice. Burrows idea. And then it turns out being the game winner and runs for 32 yards and sets up in McPherson for the game winning. Yeah, um, in the thing, too, and I don't want to play. You know the what ifs here. But if that fourth down pass in overtime, let's say that doesn't work. In Minnesota takes that football over with a good field position at the 50. What is the fan base like today? I would think it would be mutiny because all of the goodwill that and to her credit to Elizabeth Blackburn is built up with the you know the throne and the atmosphere in the jungle, and it's a whole different field. The marketing element with a ring of honor. All these great changes and Goodwill to the fans. I think it evaporates. After that, Maybe I would have gone for it there, though, because you're not playing the top like if he would have punted. I would have been more Yeah, Yeah. Yeah, You have to try to win. And you're right. I mean, look if it doesn't go right that Minnesota with their weapons their 15 yards away from getting into field goal range. And Greg Joseph had made a 53 yard to force overtime. So it's not like he doesn't have the legs like get it. I understand that. But good news is at least for one week, though, Scott, we don't have to have those conversations in McPherson fiercely through Yeah. So, um, there's a lot going on here, too, And it's a great one for that was certainly I think the most exciting game in the weekend to be honest with you. It was a fun game to watch the Vikings 10 penalties 90 yards in the first half. I think that there's a lot of credit there. Um, and it doesn't take away from the Bengals at all. But you're giving up an entire football field in the first half. For sure. And the crowd had something to do with that in Berlin, acknowledged it afterwards. You have all those false starts early on, and man, what a help that was. Just to get the momentum on the bangle side and part of that, too, with how dominant they were in the trenches on that defensive line. I mean, those guys were moving people. And putting opposing offensive lineman in the Kirk Cousins lap. That's the worst when you're getting your guys in that in the middle, not only outside the tackle spot The Garden Center. You're pushing those guys back right for the laps of the quarterback. It just makes it hard. Even if you go back and you look at that first drive second drive that the Vikings had Kirk cousins, Mrs Masters a wide open Justin Jefferson in terms of behind him, and that would have been a first down and that suddenly you're moving the bottle and things change in momentum in the defensive tyrant. Incredible pass was off target because they pressured him. And that was probably the thing that I don't know about surprised me the most, but the most encouraging take away I have from yesterday. Obviously, the resilience and everything like that. Right. This defensive line pressured cousins. They helped keep down and cooking check who is considered one of the best running backs in the game, And that was a tall task..

"A lot of tight coverage outside to say if you beat us down the field will tip our cap and will adjust their but Again. You have an offensive line that added wryly Reef. I don't know what else we did. And we talked before the show. If you go into the off season last year and say to a bangle fan Who had just seen Joe Burrow get carted off the field. Next year. We're going to have Riley Reef starting, but outside of that we're going to have Quentin, Spain and save your pillow right guard. You would have said Wait a second, but that's not that's not enough. So today we find out if that's enough against the defense that's going to test you, Uh, from from the first snap in Mike Zimmer? Well, Riley Reef is here for one reason. The Vikings thought that they could do just well without it right. That's why any free agent gave him the keys to his place. Right? That's right. So there is my favorite guy, but we didn't need him here anymore is essentially what he said. And they rewarded another tackle this week with one of those, you know, Lifetime contract so He's here for a reason, and we got a lot to get into. But I'd be before we kick it to our first break. Guard to guard and you just mentioned that That's where I worry about this team the most. I think Reef can acquit himself. Well, you look at his numbers last year, you know they weren't you know, outstanding, but they were steady and that's what they needed because Bobby Hart was anything but Upgrade, right? Jonah Williams, I think is going to be a terrific player for a long time. This leg but guard to guard you have the two guys you just mentioned, plus a 350 plus pound man coming off. Total knee construction. So I worry about that, for two reasons. One not just protecting burrow, but to Joe Mixon, who's got to have a big year will operate in between tackles. And if it's not there, he's not there. So I'm just wondering about your thoughts on that. You mentioned Jonah Williams. This is kind of the year, right? Right. You either show that you're going to be an elite tackle in this league or You're going to be an average tackle, and we're going to have to address this again down the road in the draft, but My concern with the three in the middle, as I know Trey Hopkins has been solid, but he's coming off knee surgery. Like you said. When you think about Joe Burrows injury. What does Joe Burrow need to be comfortable a clean pocket in front of him if there's pressure coming from the outside as a quarterback You step up in the pocket. You deliver a throat or you step up and you get out of the pocket. If the pressure is coming in your face constantly. It makes it really hard to really drive into that throw. And when you have a surgically repaired knee, if there's constant pressure at your feet, that's going to become an issue. Sure that's going to become a thought. I went down to To every training camp practice, And if there was anything at Joe Burrows feet, you saw him pull that leg back. It's still there. It's natural for that, to still be a thought process. And when you haven't showed up those three in the middle. If there's penetration in Joe Burrows face, it's really hard to step into a throw, which means it's really act. It's really hard to be accurate. Consistently as a passer, so That for me is certainly what to watch. I think they're better, and I think they're competent at the tackle positions. It's what those three in the middle can do. That's going to go a long way and deciding what does Bangles team can do? And if you're Frank Pollock? There's a problem outside. You slide a tight end over there, right? If there's a problem in the middle, your limited you can keep it back in and maybe, you know, have mixed and block but that takes away mixing as other things like a receiver or running back. I just to me. I I understood going for Jamaar chasing around one today. Soldier marches and I don't put anything into the preseason, but we'll talk about Jason tool is going to be a fine player. They both struggled. They're both going to be good players before we get to a break. I know there's people listening. That are on their way down here. Can I just give those folks a chance? A one time opportunity? Yesterday in the state of Ohio. Ohio State lost to Oregon. I heard that the Reds lost to the Cardinals. I watched that the Indians were no hit by the Brewers. That's good. Toledo blew a chance to beat Notre Dame. Thankfully, the Columbus crew lost Now I've seen Cincinnati one, which is a big Rachael, eight. To them that happened. Akron got stopped by Temple and Your Ohio Bobcats suffered a tough defeat. I think it might have been a misprint this morning, but I have to go back to check but what I want to do for anyone coming down or anyone here today I'm going to give a one time. Pass. Two. Now jump on the Cincinnati Bearcats bandwagon. Wow, you get a one time opportunity Stop down at the Holy Grail today. Come by and see me say that you want to take me up on this offer, because after today it closes Well, what is he saying? No more. Where does this bandwagon go? Where you just Somebody's got to the top to the top. Straight to the top. Indiana Notre Dame the next two games for the bear Cats. You're driving the band west. You're going to drive the bandwagon blooming this to Bloomington and I'm offering a one time password for anyone listening. To jump on board Now, That's unbelievable. I don't know. I know how many are on the bandwagon right now, a lot. A lot of people in the blond and it filled up more yesterday, there A lot of people blowing hamstrings off that bad. Yeah, it is. You get one chance today. Just think if they beat Indiana this week. Hell anybody's getting on at the next time is coming early today, Mrs. Coming early. Well, there you go. I don't know what more you need. To come to the banks and of the Holy Grail and listen, live to the Arno carriers. Logistic pregame sports talk. "Be here to begin our at least an 18 week run. At kind of around the three locations. Very excited. Jacket H. M s a very cool place to get an excellent patio outside and a lot of room inside a ton of TV. These Adeline bar that is a killer bar over there. So thanks to long next for having us and we're excited about what is ahead. All this is presented. By your Cincinnati northern Kentucky Honda dealers and it has brought to you in part by Hawksworth Blood Centers. Hawksworth donors save lives. Who will you save? I'm lions McAllister. He is Rocky boy. When we laid out some of the things we are optimistic about. I'm excited about what about rock Some of the things we are a bit may be concerned about or reserving judgment till we see further evidence to relieve any building angst we might have. Okay, so you might have heard this team has had an issue with the offensive line in the last. Really? Yeah. Rumors. 56 years. Yeah. So I feel fairly comfortable with the frontline guys, right? I think, you know. Add and Riley Reef. Is an upgrade. I think Joan Williams will play better in the second year. Trey Hopkins. I think we know what he can do. But depth. Lance where is the death on this offensive line? You look at Isaiah Prince who's a backup tackle. Two years of experience. Deontay Smith, Backup guard rookie Trey Hill, Rookie Jackson Carmen rookie Fred Johnson. Two years of experience, so Inevitably, once the last time any often in the offensive line in the NFL went an entire now 17 games without an injury or 10, right. So what happens when Deontay Smith or Isaiah Printers. You know, some of these guys that don't have a ton of experience have to come in. That's a huge question. In my opinion, no doubt I was talking with Jay Morrison from the athletic last night about that very issue, and he said they they like the young guys the rookies, but It's one thing to like it. It's going to ask him to step in right away, says if it's later in the season if an injury happens, you know week 10 11 12 when they've got some reps under their belt, and there, they get their feet under them. That's one thing. If something goes haywire with somebody early, this might be. I mean those names. You just reeled off for the twos and the lack of experience. It might be the least experienced backup set of offensive lineman in the NFL and three rookies. It's gotta be. It's gotta be. So that is a major issue as far as I'm concerned, and we shall see what about you? Well, let me let me finish off an offensive line because Jackson Carmen to me. He's going to be the guy who we watched through the prison mob what they opted to do to getting trading down. We knew all the names, whether it's Kevin Jenkins and granted. He's out now, maybe for the season with an injury. But there was the Liam Eichenberger your guy at Notre Dame. There was Walker Little Sam, cause me a whole bunch of offensive linemen and the Bengals it at 38 opted to get out of that down to 46 that opened themselves up for Are you sure you know what you're doing? I know they got two extra picks, and Tyler Shelvin and Deontay Smith. You hope for them in the future, But maybe you took a you took a roll of the dice on somebody who was a tackle. You're now asking to play guard and somebody was coming off back surgery on a team that just screamed out in need of an offense. Offensive line help! They have exposed themselves a little bit here. They better have hit on Jackson Coroner have nailed that. And let's be honest. The early returns are not good October himself who has never wanted to throw anybody in the bus, said Look, the guy came in kind of out of shape, and you know that sort of thing would look, it's tough enough transition from tackle to guard right for a rookie, but it's even tougher when you come in. And maybe you're a little bit out of shape and you're not don't look quite as dedicated. So that's you're right. That is a decision that's going to be looked at, like every week for the next three or four years. No doubt about it. I'll give you another one. That is, I'm kind of holding back on it. It's a slight concern until it's removed. And that's Jamaar Chase. And now there's a whole bunch of silly stuff going on a pro football talk is Is trying to take his comments out of context to say he can't catch the ball because the college football's are smaller and there's no stripes on the end of the NFL footballs. It's not what to believe there. I just know this. He's clearly experiencing drops to this point, and if you're wide receiver, the key element is holding on to the football and I just hope it's something that's not more up here now boarding to my head. That kind of grows with more evidence presented in week one if he drops another one. Ideally, you'd like him to make a big play on the opening drive of the game, and everybody goes who, man? That's the guy we drafted. But right now there's no you can't just explain away and say, Don't worry about it because it's been the story of the entire camp. He keeps dropping the football. It would be one thing. Look, sometimes guys have a game where they just can't catch the ball. But it's been oh, th has been camped. It's been scrimmages. It's been in the preseason games, so certainly an issue and it's certainly in his head. I mean, the guys tried a million footballs in his life. The only thing that's different right now is Is the fact that maybe inside his head and he's thinking about it, and that's a hard thing sometimes to overcome. Tell me how significant this is, and I'm not presenting it as an excuse, but we know he didn't play last season. Right, so he's shaking off that rust. Plus, he's trying to get up to speed at a speed he's never experienced before, if he were coming back to get up to college speed to be one thing. He's coming back after a year in trying to ramp up to the NFL game. At the speed of that game. There's got to be something to that adjustment of having played at one speed you as a rookie, probably said who this game's fast right? Well, it is and I always uses example by the only way to get good at something in life is to do it and to continually do it, not repetition, while And then take time off and do it again again, You know not to blow smoke up you but you are great at radio because you do it over and over and over. I don't know about you. But if I take a week of vacation off the first day I come back on radio, and I'm like God, you're a little bit out of whack right? So he takes a whole year off of football. So now he's trying to make up for that. Now he's inside his own head, and he's got everybody down him and all that sort of thing. So The only way this gets resolved is what you just said a big moment in the game, and that's where you would love to see. Joe Burrow have confidence in him on a big third and seven, right, right. In the third quarter, something like that, and boom, He constantly goes to Jamaar Chase. He catches it, and then that can be eliminated. Like just like that, Yes, but if it keeps going, it makes it harder and harder to come back from in my experience. Can I give you another one? Another concern and this is more coaching staff related. I was looking at the game notes today. This team has got to be able to figure out a way to finish off games and win close games. Let me give you some numbers Rock. You know, I'm a numbers guy. Yeah. In Zach Taylor's time here in games decided by three points or fewer. This team is 06 and one In games designed by three or fewer 06 and one in games decided by seven points or fewer. Zach Taylor's Bengals are 1 12 and one when they've led at the half 12 Times. They've only won four of those when they've led after three quarters 11 times. They don't want 15 of them Rock. I'm making the case right now, and that's coaching. You can argue, but guys got to make place. You've got to put you guys in position to make plays and this team's got to win close games and they got to finish off games or they're not going. Take the next step They have to take. What's the number? One thing everyone had against Marvin Lewis. The adjustments right? In game halftime in between drives, although everything and those numbers kind of indicate the same thing going on here, right that this is a chess match is going back and forth come into the game and you have your game plan. And guess what? First snap of the game. You may say we're going to throw this out because it's not working or we come out in the third quarter. We think they're going to do this, but they do that. It's just a constant. How quickly can you Can you adjust from that? And this appears to be from those numbers of team. That's not doing that well, and there's winnable games there. Three point yes, and and I don't have the statin front. But I've seen one of Alabama, Alabama, Alabama, but it's like when they have a lead at halftime..

"So one thing that you were telling me before the draft. I hate the bengals. Don't do a really good job at picking office line. a to me is almost like th. That's like a billy price situation is like this guy can't beat out other people on there and they're like oh well we got. We got these other guys that could maybe do it like no. He was drafted to start in earnest thing but are chaser. The difference is he's out there and he's taken a lotta reps with the with the ones he doesn't say all the rest with the one because there is this rookie initiation thing or whatever audience tate. Uh slides in and take sam reps with him. And i say that to say this it. We're going to say that this guy should be out there. Jackson karma a in in the pick them that high. He needs to get mentally prepared for that. And that's not a michael jordan situation where you're taking some. Im force in them out there. The talent level at that part of the draft says that he should be out there and he should have no problem alexander bill so maybe i jumped the gun. I think i wrote a tweet to. And i was just like man like the optics aren't on his. Aren't that good. But i might. I kind of miss read it too. And that's my mistake. Where i'm just like i'm looking at steiner lineup. That they have out there but at the same time. I'm just like i just don't wanna read some stupid story about you. Know like growing pains and transition into a position because the talent level at that spot was so high that you didn't have to do that like if you look around the league and you look at the redskins That they drafted the one of the guys that we were saying. Is that Y oh sam and stuff like that guys around the league. They got drafted in that. Same spot are going to be starting like. They had the same pool of people in front of them to save. Backup field level guys and they're gonna be starting so it is like a jump the gun type of moment for me. I think yes. I'm with you. i'm with you on that. I know you're not trying to make excuses for him. I know that carmen did have some kind of back surgery or something like that. I don't know if that's playing into it as well. We'll have to see but like you said like. Obviously i think this weekend camps tomorrow is open to the public right. So we'll get the fans actually be able to see what's going on But with that. Let's also talk about the depth as guard. It seems that austin rider. It seems that he left. Cincinnati without a do and my opinion. I think that that was a little bit of state but it could be that he was asking for too much money. So how do you feel about the current death right now at the center in the gar- position. I don't think it's good enough actually for me One of the things that was told from somebody in the building is that they want to take a look at his knee. So that was one of the one of the main things the second thing that i was told us that i think when he came there he was coming here. You know in. Of course he if he wasted out he might can get a starting center job. But when trey hopkins it starts off and he's fully cleared. You know like you know. That's probably not as desirable for so. I don't think that's on the bengals for not wanting him or whatever i just think like maybe didn't line up and maybe could lineup. Maybe trae hopkins doesn't show him everything it that they need to show them like in the next couple of weeks because as again we're saying he just sorta acl week seventeen so you know. There's a lot of possibilities. That could still happen another guy. That's still out there. is eastern. And he's kinda fits the same old to gar center interchangeable piece. He still out there. And he's the beheading as well and i feel like maybe a little smidge under a austin writer. But that's a guy. That's still out there that i'm like why don't they. At least bring for or tryouts at the very least or they did. Oh yeah they did. Didn't they do that once. I got gotta look that up. They did have they. They were linked to him. At least that yeah they did it upside signing another guy. Gunnar also may also ended up Claiming another guy galilee from from the cardinals. Yep as a he had three starts under his bill to. He's he's putting his third season gallen so they're getting. They're getting some depth there. obviously i talk to kansas city. That writer. I think rider was expecting that he was going to get paid a lot of money. Just because of the market in the market kinda has told him that you know that hasn't been the case so it could be the case that you know. I know zan we were talking a us shared like that you know. Potentially the money that he was looking for probably wasn't there From the bengals in terms of what they wanted to offer what other things wanted to offer so that could be one of the reasons that he still out there on the market. But like you said if say hopkins was going to start. A writer has only play center. That could've been a backup situation for him. So you definitely which is talking about the depth. I think it's is somewhat over concerned but we'll have to see how this plays out obviously with hakeem the density potentially coming back at the end of the season. We'll have to see how that works after talking with doc on his kind of status from injury standpoint so what does have to see is something that i felt a little bit better about but i just think that we would have been able to put it to rest with like austin rider or maybe one of those guys that are out there so we'll just have to see the other death concern that we have is edge. Rusher you kind of touched on it a little bit. So talk to me about your thoughts about the depth at defensive tackle because we did have a defensive tackle kind of colas Meat is weak starter. That we had there were larry. Yoga jobe may. Obviously that was a big issue for his last season with dj reader. Out guys going down and obviously edge was issue as well. How do you feel about the depth of that position. Saying i'm in the same boat. It's where you know. Part of my day is about what i do for living is ruling out variables and i looked at a lot of different things that happened to us this past season and a lot of it. They got to a point where the debt was so bad that it just made it so that it was a complete wash. Okay let's finish the job and let's you know let's just get healthy right but say you don't have that say you have one or two guys now. You don't wanna put yourself in a situation where you're just searching for that one guy. What do we know from this all season about the as position. I know that most of the teams in the division most of them got a little bit better than some of them still on the same level. I know one thing about us is. That's the one position group that are hammered down all of last season and said that this is a very weak group. They didn't do anything to better themselves to me. Like there's now. I don't think by show of hands in the audience who thinks that Trey hendrickson is offering more than we'll car lawson is. Most people went trey. Hendrickson got signed. Most people say well he got a bunch of cleanup sax on the strength of the line. In the in the guys that they had their the saints which is trying to emulate for him for the bengals is they give them to other competent. Really good rushers. Which you're looking at right now on. Paper is joseph. Aside has to give you four to five sags like year one. If that's the plan for your third-down package if not. Let's not kid ourselves. I love sam hubbard adele. People will take this as a shout at me. But sam hubbard is not giving ten twelve sacks per year so when you go against the best of the best you go against the mouse I'm sorry when you go against the best tackles in. Football's like like the browns had the offense ally in football. You need aliki athletes. You need the through multiple bodies at them. You don't need some guy that you're just relying on sand. Well he can stop the edge and he's really good against the run cool step one. How do you become a lot better than gimme another athletic guy that can give me at the very least fifteen twenty snaps the game. That's something that has to be had and if you're kidding yourself you're you're saying josephus size the answer that he hasn't even played it down it. We look at any other team from the outside looking in you. See a rookie..

"He does his version of we do a mail bag as well in the form of our listener questions live show. He does the written format version where he fields questions is while he doesn't awesome job. He always plugs in little anecdotes in hobson. 'isms if you will that are always enjoyable. Basically there was a question from kevin In north dakota asking about adding addition to the offensive line. What's going on with the dynegy's injury blah blah blah. The thing i wanted to focus on was at the bottom here and all highlight it because it is trey hopkins's birthday today as well on the here on the seven so happy birthday trae From what i can gather. Most of the injured guys are going. I guess it's isn't the seventh. This is the sixth. It's the sixth. Oh gosh i'm all. I'm all out of sorts. It's the sixth. but it is trey hopkins's birthday what i can gather. Most of the injured are going to be ready to go on the first day of training. Camp rights hobson center trae hopkins. Who had the acl injury. The very last game of the season may need a little more time but veteran. Billy price is ready to go in his place until he gets back in it. Sounds like hopkins has a shot to play the opener or somewhere close so this kind of still is the chorus line. We've been hearing about the recovery of trae hopkins. It's going to be cut nick close. He's doing well with his rehab. Things are looking really good for him. And if you really. I mean really for the size of an offensive lineman if you really looking at week one after tearing the acl in the final week of the season. That's a heck of a quick turnaround. So he's able to do that more power to him but you obviously want him full strength in full go And then you hope if he's if unfortunately hopkins is not ready to go when your your hope is. the ability. price is rejuvenated enabled to play adequate football. Under the tutelage of frank pollock and ability price was one of many players who was very excited at frank pollack back with the bengals. So that is an update. From jeff hobson in terms of trae hopkins and it sounds pretty good. Happy birthday trae hawkins. Hopefully you keep going up And michael jordan. Just ask how straight hopkins doing so. There's your update. Michael good to have you with us. Joining us live. Or if you're unable to join us live. Thanks for checking out the video after the fact or the audio is well. We appreciate all the support so get the show in the cincy. Junker podcast channel on your favorite audio streamers. I mentioned earlier and subscribe to our youtube channel as well. Unfortunately a bit of not so great news for the cincinnati. Bengals also came up here undrafted. Free agent darius hodge was arrested for an assault charge. From a couple of years ago He was one of the bengals. Six college free agent signings and this is gonna make his path to the team a little more tricky He was arrested sunday in his hometown of wake forest north carolina He apparently hit a man repeatedly two years ago. Twenty nineteen so this is This is an older situation in now is coming to light. I guess and so anyway he was playing. He originally committed to playing at north carolina. He ended up at marshall and he played four years there again. Free agent i. I would assume that the bengals probably had some indication as to you know as to what was going on or potentially going on here. And that's why they did the free agent route instead of. Maybe drafting him. But you know. Here's the deal Even with this as john. Sharon my co-host notes in the article on cincy jungle dot com the bengals twenty three defensive lineman linebackers currently on the roster. They always need pass rush out. They always need that kind of help but This is not doing himself any favors there and of course we'll have updates. That goes on but not great. News for dairies hodge there in cincinnati. Bengals so here are some other great platforms and other great counterparts of ours. That are putting out some quality content on the cincinnati bengals. This is from bengals. Wire buddy chris. Rolling over at bengals wire is a nice article. They're talking about bengals breakout candidates. So i recommend you read this one. Go check that out. I will say this we will be doing this. Not only on our show as well fight on cincy jungle where we're gonna be doing a little. Bit of the breakout players. We this is kind of been an annual tradition on our show ends since he jumped a website as well but you could see their jesse. Betas the You know one of the guys air That that is noted and j morrison of the athletic tab. Jessie bates is the team's biggest breakout candidate. Now again this is a little it depends on your definition of a breakout player. Right is a breakout player. A guy who has been near stardom and becomes a star or superstar. Is this you know. Is this a situation where it's a person who was kind of back on the depth chart in a sense to kind of a more starter prominent role in a productive player. Just got it. Depends but i'm jay. Morrison has jessie bates as the team's Breakout player. we're going to do more on this On this show and since jungle dot com so keep it there but it's all kind of relative in terms of your definition of what a breakout player is especially when we talk about twenty twenty one continuing on this is via bengals wire and pro. Football focus This they have high hopes the bank. The pro football focus people have been all over the bengals offense in terms of productivity and high expectations especially from their skill position players. Here's here's the fantasy outlook. This is from bengals wire and the in the information is from pro football focus but they expect mixing scores the eighth highest running back in terms of fantasy and all that kind of stuff by totaling fourteen hundred eleven yards with nine total touchdowns so that puts them a lot of put some very highly productive in terms of yards and touchdowns from scrimmage. Obviously you know there's been some. These had some health issues over the past couple of years. They have caused him to miss. Time for various amounts of stretches sometimes short-term sometimes longer uh so that's a big question but the other question also and it's one that seems to point to joe makes in being a more purdue statistically productive back it this year is because geo bernard is not really in the in the mix or a lot of the that receiving role. Now the bengals brought in. Chris evans they have puka williams as an undrafted free agent. So maybe those guys to hang on as kind of a antonio gibson esque a running back slash wide receiver weapons for.

"To Reds baseball against the Cubs here in just a little bit. We'll have the inside pitch coming up in about an hour in about three weeks, maybe a little less than that. The Cincinnati Bengals report to training camp. Hopefully with a healthy Joe burrow. Hopefully with a healthy Trey Hopkins hopefully with Jamaar Chase, ready to be that blow off the top of the defensive, secondary kind of speed, Hopefully, hopefully hopefully Lot of teams are in a lot of different places with players right now, players that have been really good players for them for years, and players they're hoping can bring them to the next level. Every single one Of the 32 NFL teams is hoping the same thing. But I saw a couple of stories this week that caught my eye, both written by a writer that I think is terrific. Sam Monsoon. Sam Munson was with the original pro football focus group. When it was in Ireland. They now operate at, um Cincinnati in over the Rhine. And he wrote a couple of stories. One was five NFL teams with an Achilles heel that could derail their 2021 season. Another words five teams Have something wrong with him physically, structurally, that will prevent them from chasing a championship in 2021 the other story that I wrote that he wrote that caught my eye was this one? Corey Davis and more regression candidates for the 2021 NFL season. In other words, players that excelled in 2020 that may be looking to fall back to Earth, either from a statistic goal or from a performance standpoint. So when you get that much information out of San Munson, you've got to get him on the air. And here he is today on the Fourth of July to join us to talk about both of those articles and more Sam Bronson, How are you on this glorious fourth? Doing great. Let's start first with regression candidates for the 2021 NFL season Now I saw that I said, Whoa! Is he trying to make us believe that these guys are going to fall off the map? But no, The articles just is that these candidates of which Jesse Bates, the third is one of them are players that had such great seasons in 20. 20 or players that you know we're just so long term, very good that it just stands to reason averages will catch up with them, so that's really the basis of the article, right? Yeah, I think you know, one of the things we've learned from all these years of doing. Kids have data that we tend to assume the players just kind of get better and better every year where they're young, and then they Reach a level and that's where they're going to play for the rest of their careers. But it doesn't really work that way. And you see these guys kind of bounce around all over the map a little bit, and the the reputation might not change, you know, player might might be held in the same esteem year on year, but he's going to play a little bit better or a little bit worse. Every single season it fluctuates. And depending on how good he was a year ago, you can have a pretty good chance of, you know, just ball parking, whether he's going to get better or worse, based off where that wants, And there was a lot of these guys that either had a breakout season last year that was so incredible that the chances are they're going to take a step back or You have a pretty good idea of what this guy's career baseline has been, and he had a career year last year, So you know, just by logic, he's probably going to come back down to where that baseline has been. Rather than continue this incredible season, the bait that he had in 2020. Well, how would you then? Great baits? Because Bates obviously was terrific. I think in pro football focus is rankings, he graded out to 20/90 percent. And as you point out in the story that's almost 30% points higher. 30 points are than the year before, so you could see where he may be trending up. But when you see a spike like that, it makes you wonder. Well, okay. Is that a career year year or in some guy's cases? Not necessarily him certainly is. Is it a contract year? Some say the same thing about Trey Hendrickson. When he was in New Orleans. Last year. He had all those sacks and they were saying, Well, you know, it was a contract year. You and I have had discussions about sex in the folly of pointing too much emphasis on those things. But with Bates, you could make a case that he simply continuing to trend up. 90 Plus is pretty damn good, not sure how much harder he could get. But the law of averages with him is, I think based or this story is based on the fact that he had that big spike last year. Yeah, and base is interesting because you know, that was year three. And your three is typically the year where you do see the development and a step forward from young players. So it fits the narrative, right. It's like Jesse Base hit. Your three took a big leap forward, and now he's the best 80 in the NFL or one of them. He was, I think our number one Great and safe. You last season. Um there are a couple of things that jump out of Just a little bit of areas for concern in terms of backing that up next year. One just how big a jump it was from the year before. I mean, it was a 30 point. Great jump over all, it was 25. Point great jump in terms of coverage when you're talking about leaps that big it just screams. Um you know, outlier, more than necessarily true development and the true raising of a gaze level. Then the other thing that jumps out is how to the heavily depended there was on Big plays in coverage. Obviously, that's a good thing for safety. But big plays and coverage are just a difficult thing to repeat your on year because it's not all down to what you did you know, as a safety or cornerback, you're a little bit at the mercy of where the ball goes. You know how much quarterback or receiver gives you a chance to make those plays? So Jesse Bait, let all safeties in combined interceptions and pass breakups. Forced incompletions. All those kinds of things did it while playing, you know most of his time of a single, high free safety where you've got more space to cover, but just the fact that so much of that grade was built on those plays that themselves fluctuate on her volatile statistic year to year. Again. It just stands logically next year. He's probably not going to have as many of those plays and that immediately is going to take some off is great, right? Right? No, I think there's no question about it. And if and if a receiver or a secondary guy is a victim as to where the quarterback may or may not throw quarterbacks figure into this this next category, you say both Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers Are prime candidates for regression. Now, now, Rogers a age may catch up with him, and there's certainly more going on with Aaron Rodgers than any football fan her team would want with regards to his contract. Josh Allen was so good last year that it just stands to reason that to expect that another year or a build off last year would be asking quite a bit. Even as good as Buffalo is. So is it aged with Rogers? And expectations for Alan, where to each one of those fit into this regression candidate thing. No, I don't think it's even age with Rogers because you know he was all last year, and he had the best season of his career. It's just that it's the fact that it was the best season of his career..

"That. First of all, he got to move on from Bob Bratkowski as his offensive coordinator. And if Mormon, Lewis wore out his welcome, Bratkowski sure did then, too. Committed to not bringing Carson Palmer back. They were just going to let him sit and snu. Goes out drafts. Dalton drafts green. All of a sudden you got five playoff teams did. Marvin won a playoff game here? No, we know that. But we also know He had some pretty good teams and pretty good run along the way. So 2015 rolls around. You know, the Bengals are still cooking. They make the playoffs, but they make the decision to move on from Andrew Whitworth and Kevin Zeitler, and they think that said Drago Boy, he Who was that cat's name that they drafted in the second round. Fisher, right? They thought those two guys were going to be life after Zettler and and, uh and Whitworth and those two guys couldn't block the door. I'm shocked that old boy he is still in the league. 2017. They took John Ross John Ross. Think about that. John Ross might be the biggest whith in draft history, and they've had some whiffs. Dude was so bad that his last year here they were putting him at cornerback in practice to see if they could salvage him. There couldn't run routes couldn't remember routes didn't fight for contested balls. Now, listen. This dude may go to New York with the Giants and light it up. Don't think so. Why did up Billy Price, another guy? Happen to think Billy Price is going to be a good player this year for a number of reasons. It's his contract year. And he's reunited with the guy that was here when he was drafted. Frank Pollock. Frank Pollock is the offensive line coach. I think he's the X factor on this team. Think this offensive light is going to be better because they've added wryly Reef and Jackson Carmen. I think it's going to be better because I think Jonah Williams is going to be a much better player under Pollock. Trey Hopkins. Hopefully, sounds like he's going to be okay with his knee will see Camp opens here in about three weeks. But I think Pollock is the guy that makes that different. Now in in Zach Taylor's case, he had a chance to hang on to Frank Pollock and decided not to. We brought in Jim Turner. And that was that did not work out well. But I look at what I look at what he's dead. So far in in going In those two seasons 6 25 and one I look at that. And I said, Okay, the first year it was Marvin Lewis Group, right. He had a lot of guys that were on the back nine. And slowly and surely he weeded those players out Now the team didn't play well. We got to last year. We get to last year they draft Joe Burrow. Everybody's excited about Joe Burrow Cus the year before sucked, and we all knew that Andy Dalton wasn't going to be the answer. Quite frankly, Andy Dalton should have not been the answer. For 2017 on I should have taken Patrick Mahomes, but that's all different story. Well, No, I know that Dalton was their starting quarterback in 2017. But where was he in 2019 there there 56 games in the season. He's benched. They're going with Ryan Finley. But they draft and it all. And so all of a sudden that offense takes on a different dimension, and the team takes on a different feel. Now they they lost to the Chargers in the opener, Miss Field goal by Randy Bullock. They play the Browns close. They play Brown's within five. They have that overtime game with Philadelphia, which was a disaster, but it's at Philly. Had a chance to win that. They beat Jacksonville they had no shot at Baltimore. They put 21 up on Indianapolis and then they run out of gas, and they wound up losing 31 27. Cleveland comes here. They lose by three the go back to Paul Brown Stadium and beat the Titans. Okay, Steelers beat them. They get two week 11. Week 11. And I remember this because everybody at this radio station that does a sports show was saying the same thing. Before the Washington game. Hey, Washington. Washington was no good. The Giants were pathetic. The Dolphins were struggling. It was at Miami. There was going to be a tough game, but it was the Dolphins. Then the Cowboys. The Cowboys were horrible. So you're looking at going into that Washington game. You got four games four games. And you're thinking of yourself with Joe Burrow. There's a really good chance they could win three of those four, maybe all four. But we know what happened to burrow in Washington. So You go back and you look at a team. That finished last year 4 11 and one You take three losses away. Now, all of a sudden, you got eight losses. You put three losses to the good Now all of a sudden, you're 781. Does this conversation even happen? If Joe Burrow is under center, answering the bell. From the Washington game forward. I don't I don't I don't think it even happens, but what happens with a lot Of national writers. Is that they look at a situation and they apply universal logic to it. And universal logic. When it comes to the 10 year of a head coach for the Cincinnati Bengals does not apply or Marvin Lewis would have been gone in 2008. He would have been gone in 2017. But what if the Bengals are nothing? When they come to their head coaches. They are patient. And so I can't see. Unless this team absolutely tanks this year, and I don't see that happening. I think Pittsburgh I think is the pits. I think that team they got good defense. I think that team is going to struggle mightily to score points. You've got a quarterback pushing 40 you have you think the offensive line here was bad last year? They have no offensive line. None that three starters go either to free agency or retirement. They're they're cooked. I think on offense. Yeah, they drafted a running back in in the first who's going to block for him? I don't think the Bengals are going to tank. I actually think the Bengals are going to be more than competitive. I think the Browns and the Ravens when it's all said, and done are going to be slugging it out for The A F C North. But I don't think you're going to see another two win season here. 31 season so exact Taylor Can take what he's gotten. And flip it around. And instead of winning just four games, maybe the guy win 78. He's coming back. Because he has Joe Burrow. He has a much better offensive line coach. His defense on the offensive on the defensive line, especially has been the entire defense has been rebuilt. But look what they've done on the defensive line. FC North's a tough division. And it's not going to be eagle. Easy to eek out wins. This is the time of the year when you hear a lot of people, particularly national people Talk about something hot seats this scene. Marvin Lewis is on the hot seat so much when he was here. So many times from so many writers swear the guy had to get skin grafts on his rear end..

"They're not going up against defensive lineman. But I agree with you there Thinking on friend Polito have a huge impact on this offensive line room and not just with Guys like Jackson Carmen, but with existing players, but probably didn't get coached the way they should have. America. Fred Johnson, Michael Jewelers, Makeem a dented gee guys that you have. They probably don't project the starters. My second stringers that very well could end up getting significant playing time based on what we've seen from an injury standpoint for the Bengals over the past couple of years, So if Frank Polich and coach some of these guys up And maybe this offensive line can be not only competent because I do think they have a at least average starting line. The backups can be good enough to where if you lose one or two guys, it isn't the end of the world. You have a revolving door at one of the spots ahead of silver, which has been the nightmare of course last season and in before James Rippin, Sports Illustrated all Bangles calm and locked on Bengals podcast. He was no Tia's Yesterday outside Paul Brown Stadium, the practice field Beautiful day to practice Maybe a little a little warm for the for the big boys, but Nonetheless, we'll take it right and jobar look pretty good yesterday. Um, it's good to see him run around. It's six months in on a reconstructed knee. And, of course, you had the ad Jamaar Chase in the mix, too, as well. It's fun to watch one of the other things too. Here is no controversy, right? We heard a lot about this in the offseason, James about Jack Taylor and the the That the temperament and the condition inside the locker room and you know what? Yesterday everybody shows up anyone who is and 100% healthy At this point, everyone was there to show Proteus. What's that say about this controversy and Zach Taylor? I think it says, and I don't want to take away from from Taylor. But I think that's a a player driven type of thing. It's really hard right now, with the NFLPA in the NFL and everything that's going on for Coaches to drive that. And I think that comes more from Jesse Bates on defense. Who's now the NFLPA representative for the Bangles. Now that you know Atkins is no longer on the roster. You know Jesse Bates calls you and you're my killed are your Trae Waynes? You want to come in? Because you don't want to let let your teammates down, especially if you just signed Ah, contract in the off season and in base is one of the best safeties in the league and then flip it. If you're odd on tape or your Mike Thomas or insert whatever. Player on offense, Riley Reef in job Earl calls and says, Hey, I wanna I wanna work out. I want you to hear my cadence I want to throw to you Well, heck, man, you might as well get in there, and I think it it is crucial, though, for the for their success, I think Two. Have these type of practices where? Yeah, it's just Glorified walk too. Like I said a special Tuesday and he was, you know, it was a lot of one on one stuff, but They didn't get any of that last year, Joe Burrow that was his first. Okay, practice ever because it was all on zoom last season, and if they're going to take a couple steps forward. The Browns aren't doing this right now because they're veterans are working out on their own. And so you need every advantage that you can have against any relief teams in the league, especially developing new faces all this roster turnover that you've had And so I do think it says something about the players and certainly Zack and the coaching staff that they were all able to show up all willing to, and even the guys that couldn't participate due to injuries. Trey Hopkins DJ reader as they react They were on the rehab field, working out in that heat that you mentioned. It's not like they were just standing on the sidelines. So it was certainly good to see that and Plate set the tone for the rest of the off season. Well, how straight Hopkins come along, because I mean, that's critical right there. He's gonna be your starting center, but he's got to get cleared before they started the season. What's his condition? He looks pretty good yesterday. We didn't get to see him. You know up close because again, he was just doing rehab. But, uh, it's to me. I think that dicey. I'm sure his his goal is to get Cleared by week one. And that would be great. If not, we're probably talking about Billy Price starting week one at center. Um, but it's tough because he wore it. In week 17 against the Ravens like that was that was in January. I mean, that's two month last month after a borough. I don't know how long it took him to get surgery. I would assume at least a month. You need that that swelling to go down or at least three weeks. And so we'll see. But he was running. He was doing some Heidi's. He was doing things like that, but he was off in the distance. That was hard to tell. But I think his goal is certainly to be cleared for week one. That might be realistic will see. I haven't talked to the doctors about him that much. It's been burned central on on. And as you know, all right, James, I'll let you go. But I appreciate the time is always James. Writing about the bends all Bengals dot com hashtag all Bangles. For Sports Illustrated. Of course.

You can't game and if we're gonna talk about that, we've got George Allen and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was two and seven in the playoffs. Yeah, they went to the Super Bowl. He lost it, but he changed the game. But that is a big issue in that room. And you were sitting there you'd be probably discouraged because it becomes a vigorous in many thanks. Great catching up with you. Check him out s i dot com. Talk of fame. Talk of Fame Network. Clark, Judge Great talking to you. Stay Well, okay. Always a pleasure can thank you. It's a lot of talk that the well it's Internet talk. It's not really talk among Anybody that I've heard of any great note, but its Internet talk that the Bangles on to pursue a guy who had the free agent market. This past Thursday, a guy by the name of Morgan Moses Morgan Moses. Hey, has started virtually every game since he got to Washington. And is a bargain He's making like I think $8 million a year and he hit the free agent market, and I think the only sin that this guy has committed is the sin of turning 30 years old. And Ron Rivera, the head coach in Washington, has been systematically purging his roster of anybody who was over 30 years old. He said What he arrived in Washington It was one of the oldest rosters in the NFL. I can't vouch for that. I didn't go back and see. But This is his quote. And so Moses was turned loose on Thursday. They gave him a chance to seek a trade. There were no takers, so he's a free agent. I he plays right tackle. A lot of people think it would be a no brainer for the Bangles to go after him. And solidify the right side of that line I that would allow Riley Reef to play inside it guard. And then all of a sudden now you'd have Moses on the right side. You'd have. Well, that almost sounds biblical, doesn't it? Uh, yeah. Moses on the right, sir? No, you would have both your tackles. You would have at that point both your guards and Riley Reef in and Jackson Carmen and you would hope sounds like Trey Hopkins is is going to be able to answer the bell. Come on, come first game of the season. That would leave you with some decent depth underneath that Quentin, Spain and Billy Price. But so far no uh no landing spot it all yet for Moses, Hey, grated very well. Last year by pro football focus. He was his grades were top notch. He was a top 10 right tackle in the NFL last year, but it sounds like the Bangles maybe going into this at least. Uh, this mini camp in training camp with what they have, and we'll see where Moses lands. It does Biblical, Isn't it? Coming up at 11 23 already Sunday morning Sports talk news radio 700 wlw. "Stay. If it's the right price. You keep him. Keep a guy like that. He knows the system. He knows the game. He knows how it's played safety Shaun Williams, There's another guy that you look at him and say, Okay, if there's somebody better out there, grab him, if not Bring him back these air the decisions. The teams have to make tough ones sometimes easy one other times. Alex Erickson. We talked about Mike Daniels. Sure love to see him come back. Absolutely love to see him Come back love to see him come back and healthy and play alongside DJ reader. I think that would be terrific Carl Lawson. Kara Lawson is going to be a big big decision for this team to make. Carl Lawson was injured early in his career. He came back from a really significant knee injury and he performed. He's a good edge rusher. Not great. What good that he had decent numbers this year. If you looked at Coral Lawson, one would think that an opposing defensive coordinator would look at him and say, That's somebody we gotta worry about. Carl Lawson's market value right now. This is according to Sports track $8.5 million for 2021. Probably on a four year deal. 35 a half million dollars that's where you get into Eyes. It's something that I want to pursue or do I let the market set the price for the player and not do a preemptive signing. The Bangles have a lot of decisions to make. The biggest, of course, were along the offensive line. They need a right tackle. They need a guard that could play either the right or the left side doesn't matter. They need a guard. They have a huge question mark its center. Because Trey Hopkins is coming off a a very devastating knee injury and significant surgery. The left tackle first round draft pick a couple of years ago, played well last year, not outstandingly well, but played well. The entire offensive line has to be rebuilt wisely. They've brought back an offensive line coach who should have never been let go in the first place, and now perhaps we'll get to see exactly what he could do to try and develop somebody else that looks like he's walking down the road to with them. And that would be Billy Price. I need to go out and they need to buy free agents. We've say this every year in the off season. We preach this every year in the off season. Teams get better through the draft and through good free agent signings. Maybe players that only have a year or two left in the tank. But players that can come in and lift the existing players you have over the top. And get you where you have to go to Before you can get players you draft, ready up and running and willing to contribute. That's what free agency does. Joe Thelonious sitting out there. Now he's a well coveted guard. He may not even leave the New England Patriots. But if the New England Patriots are ready to let him go and not make it home for the Bangles should pounce on him. It will cost them a ton of money. There are a couple of tackles that they could look at in this off season in this free agency period that are plugging guys at right tackle. They need to be competitive. One thing every NFL team needs to compete. Is a franchise quarterback on a rookie contract. It is the golden rod for any NFL team, and that's what they have in Joe Burrow. Why did Kansas City excel with Patrick Mahomes? He was a rookie contract. And he was someone who was a franchise quarterback. You have that here in Borough. We know that they didn't protect them well enough last year, we know they didn't have the talent along the offensive line last year. We know that it was a miscalculation last year's to what they had on the offensive line. I don't think they can afford to make the same mistake again. I don't think they'll make the same mistake again. But it will cost money. But in the NFL Well, you don't have guaranteed contracts when you can play a free agent game that you're not saddled with for three or four or five years down the road, but somebody right now that could come in and help you. It's the easiest sport of the four major sports to turn around in an off season. This team isn't going to get better Super Bowl contending better, Maybe not even playoff contending better in this offseason. There's a lot of work that has to be done. There's been a lot of atrophy. There's been a lot of money spent on players that frankly shouldn't have been here is long as they have But it could it could happen, it could be done. Let's see how wisely they play the game. There's a lot of smoke out there. There won't be any fire until about three weeks from now when he could start legally signing players. When that happens, Watch the Bangles. If they're in the fray in the first couple of days, you know, they mean business if they sit back, and they bottom feed. They try to see what's left after all of the great things or picked before them. Well, then, you know, maybe Maybe it's going to be another long haul next year. Joe Burrow on a rookie contract. Not that he's going anywhere after that contract, But after that contract, he is going to cost them an inordinately Maura amount of money more than what they're paying now. Now is the time for them to act watching that game last week. It's not that hard to fathom. The Buccaneers were absolutely in a wilderness before Tom Brady arrived. Tom Brady is not coming here. A Tom Brady player probably isn't coming here. What you can get enough really good players to come here to take what you got. And make it work. It's on them. Coming up on 9 19. We've got a lot to get to today on the show, and we're going to talk about best case and worst case scenario for the Bangles in this offseason. Gonna talk some baseball too. I don't know if you heard this, but In the last week, the major league baseball suits decided several things about this upcoming season one Is that there will be no Universal D h and that hurts the Reds. It really hurts the Reds. They have a have a glut of outfield talent. And the wonder as to what to do with Nixon. Zell continues. If you look at the Reds this year, they're starting outfield should be Winker. Akiyama cost ya Nos. And maybe on an off day you slide in somebody like sends l somebody like Akino to give somebody a day off. But that should be your starting outfield. What do you do with sends? L That's a guy that you groomed as an outfielder came up. Is it in view of groomed is an outfielder. I've heard a lot of people friends. Other people in this business, say, Well, look, making plays shortstop. He can't play shortstop. They tried that before why they groomed him for the outfield. So I'm kind of surprised that sends Ellis still on this team. He may not be come opening day. They may indeed try to trade him because there is no universal th this year. There's also seven inning double headers. This year. The major league Baseball is lashed onto something here that I know infuriates a lot of traditionalists, seven inning double headers. I gotta tell you Was not a big fan of this before it was implemented, But after watching it, it makes sense. Look, we live in a society right now, where were tugged in so many different directions We have families to attend to. Some of us are trying to find his much work is possible. Some people you may know them. It may be you working three jobs, three part time jobs just to make up for a full time job you might have lost a year ago. You don't have the ability to sit either in a stand or in front of the television set to watch 29 inning games. It just doesn't work. So baseball has decided that this is a good way. To address scheduling issues and move the game along. It also We'll save a lot of wear and tear on pictures, arms. I like that and teams with good bullpens. Solid bullpens are going to benefit from this the most And they're also going to start again playing to the crowd that really doesn't have the attention or the time or the money to spend on baseball as it was, in its traditional sense, They're going to start again extra innings with a runner on second base..

"Joe Burrow. They have a franchise quarterback. They're probably and people think you're crazy when you say this, but they're probably about four good players away from being competitive. You get reader back and he's healthy. You get the secondary back and it's healthy. If you can go if you go by a guard by a tackle, drafted tackle, maybe draft another defensive. A guy for the secondary. You're I think you're on the road to recovery there, But you don't have to spend some money. You have to spend some money, but also can we can't keep drafting these guys and then not having them develop me on paper. You know the surgical blades the world? Sure, there have been a lot of teams. That may have. That's an interesting question to see how that all is all gonna work out, but and that is was It wasn't a bad pick or was the player just not developed from day one here And so somewhere? He's in Jacksonville. Jackson may be well and Billy Price. Okay, Billy Price was allegedly this can't miss prospect Well, that Ohio State well, he's looking. He's looking like a with John Ross. Absolute with Yeah, in General Williams. I mean, we haven't He's been hurt kind of her right one year and even last year, some, too. So that's it. The development side of it is something that I think is greatly overlooked. Everybody says we gotta draft this guy got a draft that But you have to develop what's but still when you look at the Bangles with Borough, you got every franchise quarterback. They got one. He has people to throw, too. He is a terrific running back. He has Jonah Williams, who's OK. It left tackle. Maybe Little bit hair better than that. If Trey Hopkins is healthy and can play it center, he's got him. They need immunity. There's three different starting offensive lineman and maybe a player, too on defense. But it's addressable. It's not like you've got it overhaul the entire team, especially when you have the most important piece. You have the quarterback. Now he's got a road to recovery and it xprize the fullest. I think he's going to be 100% weak one, but the most important pieces there And there's a lot of other great pieces I mean tea. Higgins is a fantastic pick last year, so that that's that's a good thing. A lot of good things, but the offense of line. We all know this. We've known this for years, but not only do the Bangles have to open up the pocketbook, but they gotta identify the right guys, and then they got to develop them. Develop them. Once they draft make the work doesn't stop. It just starts. It's just beginning to start. When you draft that player. They've got to be developed. All right, well, I could proud a lot, but I want to get you and Eddie in here. You guys have a great show? Maybe we'll visit again tomorrow. "If if they let William Jackson get away that they're gonna have to start looking at bit finding another starting corner, a slot corner is definitely On the shopping list and free agency, and then you just start doing in pieces. I don't I'm gonna take a third wide receiver would be out of the question. That guy like Josh Reynolds, who played for Zach in L. A Could be an affordable guy that they could go after they've got money toe to do some things in free agency. I don't think it's going to be a typical year for the Bangles where we just see them sitting on a ticking over leftovers on the third wave of free agency J. Morrison with us from the athletic Once again, you can follow J at J. Morrison a th A. J. If they stay at number five. Overall, they're going to get a great player and I've had discussions with other beat writers about this. I like offense. Other people like defense Man, Do you have a feel for what you think or under an opinion on where they might go in five? Um, I don't. I don't think they know yet because they are so they're still trying to, you know, get caught up from last year and then they were getting to know all the senior Bowl players. Once I got back in the Senior Bowl, they really do have been the free agency. Um, it's it is literally Paul options on the table except for quarterback, But I did a mock draft this week. I've got him taking Jamaar Chase that they stay. Put it five today. Sewell was off off the board on my mock draft. So I had him going with Chase the wide receiver. Um I could see a trade back being in the in the works there to go back. Your You gonna have a lot of teams eager to move up and get a quarterback? And if the Bengals could drop back 34 spots pick up an extra second round pick, and then maybe they could take were Sean Slater, the tackle from Northwestern. I think that's an option. I don't think defense is on the table for the fifth overall pick that if they move back, maybe maybe they grab a starting corner there if they lose, Will Jackson? Yeah, that's some good stuff and definitely agree there because there are a handful of tackles that you can get just a little bit later on, man that'll Wow. Which Amar Chase make, uh job, Earl. Happy. Wow. Yeah. I mean, what was the one hole in his game? This shit the deep ball, and he threw 20 touchdown passes. Jamaar Chase and 2019. Those two had an incredible connection on deep balls. I just Wide receiver may not be their biggest Neary of need right now. But if you could bring that guy in and hooked him up with Joe Burrow, and they re establish that connection and get the deep ball going and you got Tyler Boyd in the slot and got T hurt Higgins Urging is the number one job makes him comes back. This offense could really be something special. Yeah, and to get some guys healthy on defense, you're Yeah, And that's one thing that Marvin Lewis always talked about. Didn't he? Fear of the deep ball man that would have a defensive coordinator up nights worried about that? Yeah, and we've seen the Bangles get burned. On that day they give these He's had some miscommunications in that secondary. They'll be plugging along doing really well, then, all sudden, 40 50 yard ball over the top, and it just it changes everything. You can. You can move the ball. That's one thing. But if you can, if you can have that deep threat, or you can score immediately that just totally changes the game plan for any office and J When Frank Polich got hired back, is the offensive line coach with also the title of run game coordinator. Gosh Joe Mixon, when absolutely not sauna on Twitter loving it. Yeah. I mean, speaking from experience, he worked with Frank and 2018. A Billy Price was thrilled when they branded prank. Polic is a big reason. Billy prices here and I know being with fans aren't aren't Super thrilled with what Billy Price has become, but this is a chance for it's gonna chance for him to kind of rejuvenate his career. And that they all were really excited. Trey Hopkins to all the guys that were here that have experience working under Frank Polich love this higher. And you just have to be. Oh, you have to trust them on this. They worked with the guy day in and day out for a year, and I think they were ready for a change. I think Jim Turner. His military style worn a little thin with with this group, and I think the business is going to be a really good fresh start, not just for the offensive line because it further run game as a whole. Where are you going to be watching the Super Bowl and what's on the menu will be on my count. I have not been to a Super Bowl party since Tom Brady won his first Super Bowl attended to Ram Back in 2001. I'd prefer to stay home I don't want I don't want people talking about commercials and anything other than the game. I just want to focus on the game and we'll be buffalo chicken dip that my wife will be making for me. And maybe some skyline did was well, fantastic. I'm gonna leave you with this quote because I was doing some research on pro football reference dot com. We all know that six quarterbacks went ahead of Brady in 2000 combined..

"Stays by edict by the pen. Of Mike Brown. I picture that pen to be more of a quill. He's got the ink and the giant feather that he's rightness of acetic with offensive line coach Jim Turner Receivers coach D Line coach. Another assistant on the defense won't be back as well as the running back running back Coach for the Cincinnati Bengals. Mo Eggers here or he owes 3 to 6 Week days on ESPN. 15 30 pretty much does everything else around here, Mo. What's going on? Funny how you doing? I'm doing. I'm doing fine. I'm glad I'm out of the Bengals coaching staff. But somebody saying probably more qualified the law. These didn't Zack tattoo when he came in two years ago. These areas, guys Specifically Jim Turner. Jim Turner is a guy that he had had Ah, private working relationship with and he's kind of the coach that he insisted he had to have the offensive line coach. And it simply didn't work out didn't work out for a slew of reasons. This always felt like the most likely outcome right like they weren't going to move on from Zach Taylor, but they were probably going to move on from coaches and the guy that we were pointing the finger at was going to be his offensive line coach. And so it's gonna be interesting to see what they do with that position specifically, but I think the bottom line is they've got to get better players and you know as much as we talked to yesterday, all day long about the decision to bring Zach Taylor back, which sort of obscured the game on Sunday. It was actually some significant news that went down on Sunday because the starting center Trey Hopkins, so I think you might be able to consider their team's best offensive lineman introduce a CL, which just compound The problems on that offensive line and adds to the lengthy list of things that seem has to address this also, yeah, with that beating in the end of the season, you kind of forgot that that happened when he went down like the least, is the last game of the season. No more misery there for whoever the quarterback of the day maybe, but you start looking at the lineman and a C. L's and now you're pushing it back in the next season. And what do you do now? So the the inequities upfront. Are magnified by the fact you've lost your main guy who sent her there for the foreseeable future. Yeah, and it's you know, to a large degree. This is why the Zach Taylor news that the moves that he's coming back for 2021 sort of leaves me unmoved. Um, if they announced that they're moving on from Zach Taylor, you could certainly understand why, right. He's got a worse winning percentage. A huge accident. Dave Shula. He's won six games in two years. Um, he simply hasn't won enough, right. You could understand at face value why any team would move on from a guy who's won six times over two seasons at the same time for May. Many of these roster issues that we continue to talk about predate Zach Taylor. We're going to spend the offseason wondering, how are the Bengals gonna fix the offensive line? Well, this will be the fifth consecutive offseason. We've done that The old line has been a problem. Going back to 2016. It hasn't mattered. Who the head coaches. It hasn't mattered. Who the offensive line coach is. It hasn't mattered to the offensive coordinator is they haven't been able to fix the offensive line. And so if you go down the list of things that this franchise has to get fixed this offseason, but no higher new head coach or new assistant coaches and I guess Lou and a rumor is going to come back as the team's defensive coordinator, according to what I heard, Dan Hort say on Bangles line last night. I think the thing that leaves me unmoved about the coaching decisions is the fact that the roster has remained largely stagnant. Yes, they got Joe Borough, which is fantastic. They've got their quarterback. But if you look at the list of issues that this roster has they predate Zach Taylor, which tells me that no matter who the head coaches next year, those roster issues are gonna linger until it changes made in the front. So I believe what you're saying is, and it makes sense. Okay, We keep Zach Taylor around for another season. What happened in the first year related man? Because see with the other trying to figure it out. But the pieces together you get Joe Borough. You only get him for 10 games of the last two seasons. So is that a fair shake for Zach Tanner? However Mo, I'll ask you the first question. I asked now a second time. Did he pick these guys? When I ask you that the first time was about his assistant coaches are again fired. Now masking the assistant coaches have any say in the guys that are drafted? Who was that on? They have a say, You know, everybody that works in the football department has say, but when the Bangles air good and we're getting further and further removed from when they were good Duke Tobin gets a ton of credit right here about how greater job Duke Tobin has done. Duke Tobin a great job assembling all those teams they had from 11 34,015 when they're bad. We just want to point the finger at Mike Brown. And look, there's a long list of issues that Bengals fans should have with Mike Brown. But to me, that's where I start. I start with the person in charge of putting together the lobster. He's not the general manager, but he is the team's director of player personnel. He is the fact that the general manager whenever anybody wants to assert Hey, look, the Bangles are cheap because they don't have a GM. People with knowledge of this franchise chime in, clap back and say Not what they do. They just don't call him the general manager. That person is Duke Tobin that the person putting together the roster. That's the person making player personnel decisions, and some of them have worked out. They draft the tea Higgins last year. There were a lot of people who said Don't T. Hagen Teddy marvelous rookie season. They did make a big splash and free agency last year, and I don't think it's anybody's fault that it didn't work out. They were on lucky. Trae Waynes got hurt. TJ reader got hurt. It didn't work out, but at least they tried. But again, this is five consecutive losing seasons. That is any turn it e in the NFL five straight losing seasons with roster issues that again predate Zach Taylor. Does Zach ever say and its composition of the roster? Of course he does. Does he have a say in how the personnel on the roster is gonna be used? Absolutely. That's the job of a head coach. But again when some of the issues that plague this year's team go back to 2016, I think to a degree. It's really unfair to hold the head coach primarily responsible again if they would've moved on from Zach Taylor. Fine. He has no track record to speak of. They lost 25 games over the last two seasons. Um, there was a lack of innovation on offense. The whole team felt clunky this season, especially once job. Earl got hurt. If they would have moved on from him. No problem there. But as soon as we would have danced on the grave of Zach Taylor, we would be left looking at a team that isn't very good. There's a talent gap between the Bangles and the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers. And now the Cleveland Browns, and I think a lot of that is largely independent of the head coach..
