"So I was basically out for five weeks and did just a shitload of football preview content. And I don't wanna step- I love it when you do this. I don't wanna step on a lot of that because I'll be doing that over the next couple of weeks. That's why we go to basketball today. There's so much time to do football. I gotta do the big win total over under with cousin Sal and I. I had a lot of pressure this year because we actually crushed it last year. Hopefully we can keep it going. The hardest division to figure out for me is the AFC East. And one of the reasons is I am one of the few people who think the Patriots are actually gonna be really good this year. Let's go. Oh God. It's me, it's Kevin Wilds. What a shocker, surprised. Last year I was telling everybody they were gonna suck and I picked the under and bet on it. I'm pretty realistic about the Pats. They're eight to one underdogs. Are there eight to one to win the AFC East right now, Wilds? Eight to one. That's like what the Arizona Cardinals should have. First of all, they were eight and nine last year. They were third in defensive DBOA. They just had one of the best drafts in the history of the franchise. They absolutely loaded up. They fucking crushed it. They actually hired a real- Jacoby just dropped his phone. They hired a real offensive coordinator who has a playbook and plays. We're gonna have plays this year, Wilds. No expectations at all. None, zero. And I just don't understand why they're not being discussed. You go through the teams. Buffalo season, Jacoby's got a pillow. Buffalo ends the season last year. They get the shit kicked out of them in the playoffs. They haven't really added anything and nobody's been able to explain to me why they're just slam dunk favorites other than they have Josh Allen. The Jets, they have, I don't know, top five worst offensive line in the league. They have Robert Sal as coach. Everybody's just penciling them in because Aaron Rodgers looked good on hard knocks for three weeks. And they haven't beaten us in 14 tries. Keep going. Dolphins, Armstead's already hurt. Jalen Ramsey's out for at least half the season and they have a quarterback who had three concussions last year. I feel like the division's wide open, Wilds. I don't think I'm crazy. Thank you. Can I give you some more reasons? I'll dig down a little bit. Yeah, let's keep going. So first of all, we can't beat Tua. I think Tua is 4-0 against us. He's a patron killer. Josh Allen since the Blizzard game. So the same rationale that I used for the fact that the Jets won't be able to beat us, I have to use the same rationale that we can't beat Josh Allen or Tua. That being said, we brought everybody back on the defensive line. We're third in total sacks last year. Uche had 11 and a half, Judon had 15 and a half. We added Trey Flowers and Keyon White, so that's great. Rodgers I'm not worried about because the pass rush will be all over him. I think pass rush will be all over Josh Allen. Maybe we split with them. And hopefully we try to, we always split with Miami. That's just, we're always gonna split. I'd be happy to. It's always a split. Zeke, I think, great. Had 12 touchdowns last year. He's not gonna break any big runs. But everyone's saying, ah, he's a veteran, smart guy. He's gonna be fantastic. And then, now here's the fun part. Hold on, Zeke, Zeke underrated. Yes, at this point underrated. Pollard was so good the last two years that people were like, oh my God, how did they not play Pollard over Zeke? Zeke's washed up. Zeke's definitely not washed up. He's still one of the best pass blockers in the league. He's still a really good short yardage guy and he's a beloved teammate. So great, we have him for three million bucks. Awesome. I can do a big thing on Mac Jones, but first I'll go to the fringes.

"You just use our promo code, clns 50 to get the bonus and to get into the action. Bet online, where the game starts. Let's go to this one with Trey flowers. A lot of questions about Trey flowers or I saw in the chat and Dominican Sue's name came up like this guys that they could potentially assign still. I think they only have 87 players on their roster and the last time I checked, so they have some roster spots. What do you think is do you think that Trey flowers is still a possibility or do you think it would have already happened by now? No, I could see him, you know, being one of those guys he might not need camp, especially if he's planning on coming back here. He's somewhat familiar with the system, the coaching staff. He's been hurt a lot the last couple of years. He may not want to put his body through too much. He's somebody again, I think it sort of makes sense for his situation to sign more towards the end of camp or even right before the regular season. You know, he kind of knows what he is. I think outside the medical stuff, teams know who he is as a player. He may want to see, you know, a team has some injuries and he can cash in and maybe get a little more money if there's a desperate situation. So I'm not rolling him out yet. And Dominican Sue, I wouldn't rule out either, but he is probably going to command some serious money, some money, the patrons don't have right now. They'll need to move some contracts around things like that. And I think they would see it as I think they'd be more comfortable to go like trade flowers who's been here, who they have a role for. Like if you bring in in Dominican Sue, you kind of need to figure out how you're going to use them, right?

"So even Nikhil looked good at times against Juan Williams in training camp last year. So I don't know. I have a tough time at this point with jawan with the two young corners, the rookies that they drafted with Sean wade. I don't even know Sean wake can play, but I just know that juwan Williams can't, right? So maybe Sean wade, a can develop and can ultimately play. All right, from this list of younger guys to what I love this question from court, Trey flowers or Dante Hightower. If you could have one guy back, Alex, for the Patriots, this season, who would you rather have back? Hightower or Trey flowers. Dante Hightower. He's been here, I know health is a concern with both, but I would say less so with Hightower. You know, I still think he is tremendous value as an edge setter as a pass rusher. I'm going to go with Hightower. I know people are kind of out on him. And I would take flowers back too, but flowers are really, like, Hightower play last year. He stayed on the field. He might not have been great, but he gave you pretty, I don't remember if he played 17 games, but he played most of the season. And I still think that there's that ability that burst off the edge. I think he's a natural leader inside the locker room again. He's been here. He knows the guys in the room all of that. I would take high tower. I still think they should sign flowers, but I would take Hightower. Yeah, they could probably sign both of these guys ultimately, so you might not be. Well, they'd have to have to figure out the cap situation. They won. But it doesn't necessarily have to be either or, but just because for the sake of debate here, I also go Hightower on this because even though I don't necessarily want Hightower to play, I think he was what, like, 60, 70% of snap last year..

"I guess he broke his face. Again, with the face, I'm just saying. Yeah, so, I mean, the path is there. They can play it, come out and play like they did in game two, where they just come out firing. I like when they play from ahead because it's hard to come back against their defense, but when they're the Celtics are playing from behind, then they seem to press and shoot a lot of threes that aren't exactly great shot. They kind of sacrifice ball movement in order to pull up and fire off some quick reason. I don't really like that style. So hopefully game three on the road they can come out strong and quiet down proud because they need to get home court. They need to win one now in Milwaukee in order to take the series. Yeah, yeah, I agree. And I agree with you. If you live by the three, you die by the three. So they need to stop that. I mean, get in the paint. You don't need to possibly shoot threes. Great. You just did you made a record. Most threes, but we need to be in the paint. That's what we're going to win the battles in the paint. They're bigger than us, but that doesn't mean they're better. Yeah, they have really strong big men core too with Giannis and Brooke Lopez. They're really strong and made it tough on the Celtics in game one. I read a stat. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it's something like the Celtics never had a playoff game where they made viewer than ten, two point field goals or something and that game they made 6 or something like that all games. They never had a game like that in the history of the team in the playoffs. And so I think they probably recognize that and came back in game two said we got to play a more well round offensive game. Yeah, it was painful to walk. Very painful to watch. So besides being in the playoffs with the patriots just had his raft. So they got a lot of scrutiny because the very first pick they took was coal strain out of Chattanooga and offensively. Very strange offensive lineman out of Chattanooga. Everybody's saying he could have went like the third round. But we took him in the first. I think it's okay. I mean, a lot of people have been giving the Patriots bad grade for the strap. Everyone comes out draft grades the day after the draft. And it gets a little carried away, I feel like, because it seems like everyone either gives out a's or apps in the Patriots are getting fs. But this is the kind of draft pick that usually make. They just traded Shaq mason so they needed a player on the offensive line and they're going to take full range and he's going to start from day one. And I think he was one of the I think after they made the pick, there wasn't an offensive lineman that went off the board until their next pick in round two. But that doesn't mean that it's that value because they saw player that they could put right into their lineup. They don't have to worry about the position. And they could move forward. Yeah, and everybody's like, oh, well, Scott Nicky are retired, so that is still has input into this draft. So if you said this guy is someone you desperately want, then Bill Belichick's definitely going to take them. And he fits on mole. I mean, like you said, he's going to stop right away. And grant that he's not flashy, you know, we didn't get flashy person. Sorry, sorry, draft. But we got knee and we didn't feel our need what linebacker, which kind of made me mad because I was hoping that at least the linebacker. But I see what bill's doing. He went out and he got like areas of absolute need, not like little need. We have some inside linebackers outside linebackers that are good. But we really needed to upgrade on the offensive line and the DBs. And if you look at our draft in the second round, we took take one thought and wide receiver, good pick. And I know I've been saying he could have went later, but it doesn't matter. We have him. He's supposed to be really good. And then third and fourth rounds, we went Marcus Jones, defensive back, Jack Jones, defensive back to go along with Matt Jones. So we're keeping up with the Joneses. Then we took PS strong, junior running back. I'm running back a PS1 junior running back. And then Billy steppe. A quarter. Is that big? Is that pay? Yeah, quarterback. Everybody's confused by that, but you know what? It's probably gone. We'll probably get rid of them, and we need in the backup and joy is our backup for now. And he's a veteran, but we need someone to come in as another person like Hoyer. And I feel that's going to be Bailey's a pick. So just to go back to what you said about the linebackers, I was pretty, I'm still pretty concerned about their run defense. They got gashed by a couple teams by the year, but most recently the bills when they lost in the playoffs. And they just were kind of a sieve letting running backs taking ten yards of carry on first down. So I wanted to see them get a young stud linebacker who can help them to run game or big defensive tackle. There was one guy that went to the eagles in the first round, Jordan Davis. He's a big nose tackle. That would have been a good fit, but they do, like you said, they do have some good players at linebacker that are still young that can hopefully develop. And they just, I guess they saw more of a need on the offensive side of the ball. And then a lot of teams kind of think about rookie contracts. They like to leverage those contracts so that they don't have to pay veterans. So drafting a guy like a backup QB or another running back, they took two running backs total in the draft. And three offensive line plus the quarterback. So they kind of like to stock up their those backup positions with young players so that they can save money on their rookie. Oh yeah, and develop them. And we did get Sam Roberts, which is a defensive lineman. He's a big boy. So if we pair him in the middle, I mean, that'll help, and then with free agency coming, we don't know what's going to be released by other teams as far as linebackers. So there's still our online back is that we're out there calling Hightower. And then there's Trey flowers that, you know, with the Patriots. So there are people out there that we could get. And I'm honestly not too down on this draft class. Taekwon Thornton, the wide receiver out of Baylor. He ran the fastest 40 time out of everyone at the entire combat. At least they're going in that direction with the Patriots are on the record saying they want to get past just as a team. So they drafted a guy. He's tall too. He's like 6 one or 6 two, I believe. So they are going to go for some guys that will add speed to the team and hopefully carve out some roles on the offense because they definitely could use someone to stretch the field like that. I agree. I feel the need, the Need for Speed. And I also like the draft pick of strange in the first round because they like my favorite version of the Patriots offenses when they take their linemen and they swing them out in front of the ball carrier and then they just have the lineman charging down the field in front of the ball carrier. And I think they're going to do that with strange. He seems like he's an athletic lineman who can get out and protect on screen passes and things like that. Swing passes to Kendrick Bourne or the running backs. And I really like when the Patriots do that because they get their big guys charging forward and the ball carrier behind them. And I think they pick up a lot of first downs that way and put a lot of drives together. Oh, I agree. So I think it's going to be a valuable component to them. Oh, I agree. And then, you know, undrafted free agents that we brought in. The re king, the quarterback, where I just people running back, he's supposed to be like really good. Like he's very versatile Nobel checks love versatility. Yeah. Another one of those athletic college quarterbacks that could have more of a playmaker role on offense. Like Julian Edelman. Edelman, Jacoby Myers was one. Yeah, so they love guys like that. Taysom Hill from the saints is another sort of model of that position who can play quarterback or catch or run the ball. So I think that's a trending piece to have on offense. The guy that you can just line up wherever you can think and maybe come up with a trick play or give him the boss, see if you can change up the pace a little bit. Things like that. Yeah, and I think during the playoffs, the pages showed that a lot of these teams that are out there have weaknesses against the running backs, like fast, quick running backs. And if you look, we've got rid of all that. Fullback position has been discontinued. But we brought in all these running back. There's got to be a reason Bill Belichick has a reason why he did this. He didn't just bring these.

"The Boston pro sports and look it's a great time, right? The bruins marching towards the playoffs sell its external playoffs, Red Sox, season starting. There's a lot happening right now. The off season with football, we got the draft coming out. We still have a lot of free agents out there, akeem hicks, Trey flowers, honey badger, people are still out there, things can happen aside from all of that good information that you can get. You also get with a membership. A ton of video analysis that bedard does in the coach's film and bedard wrote about devonta Parker this week and broke down some film. Davis next. Oh, there you go. How about that? And you got direct access to him in weekly chats as well. Jackie treehorn has a question. Greg, is there a reason to think? Joe judge will be coaching wide receivers, as opposed to Troy Brown. So this was a question that came from my Devante Parker breakdown and I talked about the number one job for the wide receiver coach and I mentioned Joe judge and I wasn't, I wanted to answer this question just because I wasn't really thinking. I mean, I was more thinking about Parker. In my mind, I'm like, Joe judge was a wide receiver's coach. Last time he was here. But from what we know, the pieces that we know, Joe judge is probably going to coach quarterbacks or be involved with the quarterbacks. He might be from what I hear, Nick from the owners meetings, and we didn't talk about this last week. From what I heard. The scuttlebutt is Joe judge is going to be the pass game coordinator and Matt Patricia is going to be the run game coordinator. Offensive line, run game coordinator, Joe judge is going to be either quarterbacks or wide receivers slash pass game coordinator. So I just wanted to make that point to everybody and get that out there. Very interesting. Joe judge pass game coordinator. Patricia run game coordinator. I don't know how I feel about this. If somebody told you that ten years ago, or they say 6 or 7 years ago, they're going to be like, in 2023, you're going to have a second year first round quarterback. And guess what, Matt Patricia is going to be the run game coordinator Joe judge is going to be a pass game coordinator. You'd be like, what? Depending on what happens over the next week. I think next week, let's just kind of keep this in mind. I think drilling down on the offensive staff and Mac Jones. And I know Dan orlowski, we don't have enough time to get to it today, but in Alaska, he talked about how it's his biggest worry and the NFL's biggest concern this year is who is surrounding Mac Jones and I'll just say this. There have been quarterbacks in the past that have had to go through a lot of different change and have still been able to remain successful and take a step forward. Now, as Matt going to be one of those guys, I don't know. You know, that's more the anomaly. You would like to have a coaching staff and consistency and play calling and all of that stuff for a young quarterback..

"Types of things happen when they want to start getting on free agent visits and bringing guys in and for tryouts, he's got to be healthy to come on a visit and try out for the Patriots, right? So I think of the slow moving market for Trey flowers is related to the fact that he's not fully healthy. So I heard like a similar situation with Jason McCourty, for example, who had foot surgery last season and is still recovering not a 100%. They're going to revisit not saying the Patriots, but just Jason McCourty's cap is going to revisit his free agent market coming in May like right after the draft. So I think the same thing could happen with Trey flowers that once he's a 100% healthy, then maybe you see his market start to move a little bit faster. Other news and notes here over the last couple of days, tyreek hill traded in the division to the Miami Dolphins markets valdes scantling, replacing him today with the Kansas City Chiefs. After seeing the MVS contract, I've been told like everybody else, the Patriots just weren't in on that at that asking price at that number, which makes total sense. I think that we can all understand why the Patriots didn't want to give $18 million in the first two seasons of the contract to MVS. He's just not the type of player that they are going to overpay. But you look at Tyree killman division, we're about to pull up the mock draft. Does this change at all? What types of corners you would like to see the Patriots go after or how they build their defense, knowing that in Miami, they're going to have to deal with two of the fastest players in the league on the same offense. Not really because they needed speed anyway. I don't know that maybe I can't even think of the word, but emphasizes the need. I guess would be the word, but.

"But you know, they traded there's no need for them to trade run harm, but they moved on from Duran Harmon for pics. They let a bunch of guys just walk because they knew and I think we all knew deep down as much as we wanted them to keep winning post Brady. I think they knew that they just kind of needed a reset year. And that's what it was. Right. You don't take a reset year of the year after taking a quarterback 15th overall. After winning ten games and moving your whole exactly. Exactly. If they had taken to go back to a draft argument, we had a ton last year. If they had taken Kellen mond or Davis mills in the third round and those guys flopped and they won 7 games, then yeah, then this off season makes a ton of sense. All right, you got to reset it again. Like you said, they won ten games. They were right. They were right there for the division. You shouldn't be, you know, you should be building on that foundation, not resetting the foundation. Yeah. I think that's the most frustrating thing is that this should be, they don't need to be uncharacteristically aggressive. Like they were off last off season. But they should still targeted moves, targeted moves was supposed to be the phrase this off season. Right, they should still have the pedal to the metal, right? They should still be aggressive and still try to add to this roster. And I'm sorry. If they go out there and they go into that pool of recent they start kind of signing Logan Ryan's and Trey flowers of the world and stuff like I just, I don't think that that moves the needle enough. Like I don't think that that Trey flowers would for me. Hand up, Trey flowers would for me. Slightly. Slightly. Like, we're not talking about Trey flowers in the same conversation as some of these edge addressers that have signed in free agency, not by Chandler Jones. They didn't need von Miller Chandler Jones. The only place they needed to signing like that was at corner and outside of bringing back JC Jackson or borderline signing Carlton Davis, I don't know if he's in that series right on the line, right? Outside of those two, there was no Chandler Jones. The Chandler Jones and fraternity this year at that position was JC Jackson. Was the guy who like I said, I would have liked for them to bring back. They didn't need.

"Just after 5 o'clock on the 17th, the second official day of the league year Alex waiting for any sort of roster Locke player that we can get excited about. I try to pull up some time Montgomery tape. It really didn't jazz me up all that much and we'll get to him in a second here, but I think the biggest thing that's on everybody's mind right now is what the heck is going on with this team? Why such the major reluctance to spend any sort of significant cash on anybody in free agency so far? And I think the biggest question that I have is not necessarily why. Why are the Patriots not spending? I think the biggest thing that I am concerned about is now that Tom Brady is no longer here, can they use this model in this approach to be a Super Bowl contender because this isn't that far astray from what they've done in the past, yes, they've had some of their big splash signings like Stephon Gilmore or I don't want to mention or bring up bad things, but Adele is Thomas comes to mind. Rodney Harrison in the beginning part of the dynasty. You thought of a daily's Thomas before you thought of Rodney Harrison? No, I'm just going in order, but I think the biggest thing is, is this now still a winnable formula without Tom Brady. There's still some good players out there, but the Patriots would go and get there's some guys that have been released recently, Fletcher Cox, lyell Collins, Logan Ryan, even Trey flowers, but are those the types of players.

"Given the fact that he hasn't had the production hasn't been on the field over the last couple of years and his last season with Patricia, even though he only played half the year and was hurt and then out of the lineup because production was actually at the same clip as it had been the rest of his career. And the NFL. So I actually think that the transition last year away from Patricia and into Dan Campbell's staff also heard Trey flowers a lot in terms of his role was not what he was hired to do in Detroit anymore. And that I think really played with him a little bit when he was in that system between the Patriots and then between the Lions. He was in that Belichick system for these entire career up until that point. So totally different schemes. So we're both all in on Trey flowers. That's a great move that patriots could potentially make. And I think that one could come together as soon as next week, if not earlier. I think this one's really got some legs to it. Yeah, no, again, it's funny, I think the two guys, I put like they need a corner, right? So I probably should have a corner higher, I guess, Carl Davis would probably be my number one free agent for them. After that, my two biggest names are guys who were cut and what is its last 48 hours? Bobby Wagner and Trey flowers? Yeah. Bobby Wagner in a second. If they had a corner and one of those two guys and I don't know that that would cost them, I don't really know what Wagner's market's going to be actually. I'm kind of stuck on that one. But if they were to add a mid level corner and Trey flowers, doesn't that feel like a success? Doesn't that feel like a good? And I've talked about this before. They don't need to have that fireworks free agency this year that they have last year for it to be a success. With the draft, obviously, but I've used the term targeted signings. I think specifically targeted signings are kind of what they need. And that's what it feels like, all right, solid strong side edge defender. You add a veteran corner,.

We've already seen quite a few quarterback trades and rumors and things of that nature and today we got some patriots adjacent news as well. The news of the day, at least in the NFL. And I'm not talking about baseball returning, but that's a good thing as well for sports in general, but it's Trey flowers getting released by the Detroit Lions, so we'll talk about that. We'll also touch on the Patriots pursuit of wide receivers, which should add is a wide range of wide receivers, right? We're talking about guys at the top of the market. We are also talking about guys that are more role players at the lower ends of the market as well. We're going to at the end of the show once we hit on some of these topics, we are going to open it up to you guys in the chat to do kind of a rapid fire end of the show here. You guys throw names at us. We tell you if we like it or not for the Patriots. So that's the agenda. Let's start with Trey flowers or at least today by the Detroit Lions at 5 year $90 million contract that Matt Patricia in the Lion signed it Trey flowers to a couple of years ago doesn't end up working out so well for Detroit. He's been injured the last couple of years, only played 600 snaps over the last two seasons, but for obvious reasons, go right on down the line from Kyle van noy to Trent Brown to wherever you want to go next with it. There are a lot of names that the Patriots have brought him back for second stints and Trey flowers feels like somebody that would fit right.

Because, you know, obviously, uh, the Niners are going to try and exploit that weakness with what they do best and let's get after the quarterback. Yeah, I don't. You know, I'll be honest with you. It might be. It might help him because that's all he played at Oregon, and he had clearly struggled a little bit as he's trying to figure out how to play over on the right side. It's a different stance. It's different kick. It's different. Everything so Um, I'm sure he's going to be fine. If, in fact they do throw him over there at left tackle. They're going to want to run it and they're going to want to throw it quick. I mean, that's that's how that happened. They don't I mean, they might chip with the back. They do a lot of that where I call it, you know, check and check and release her 5.5 men protection. So if no one's getting beat the running back, will release out and get out in space. So Um, you know, I think it's just about the quick game and I'm trying to get it out of golf hands and see if the 40 Niners want to tackle which I was pretty amazed in the preseason with the very few opportunities they have to tackle and practice especially live. How good sure and fierce the tackling was during During those preseason games. Let's go call I'm expecting big run game and I looked at the numbers. Mostert. I think it's going to go off. I think they're going to get. I think they can just run run. Run some more. Maybe hit a couple big play action passes off of it. How much do you think we'll see Lance? I think we'll see him. I think that remains to be seen. He's going to be available. I mean, he's not on the injury report. So, um, you know they'll have They'll have something. I think Donald up for him remains to be seen. And cows wouldn't really coy about it and really not telling anybody. What is. What is quarterback plan is so Um, he just presents so many options and so many classic conflicts for defense. When you put them on the field and how you want to defend the run, you have to count him as a runner. Then you're playing isolation coverage out on the outside, and then he's obviously a very good thrower, So it's kind of pick your poison. So I think that's the wait and see. But it's It's really exciting. I think that I think you're absolutely on it, though, and It's no secret that cow wants to pound the rock. And when you look at the defense that you know they got, they got some good players. They got good edge rushers. There's no question about it. They got athletic linebackers. But they're learning new system and they're going to want to be right. They're going to want to be disciplined. So Get the run game going, especially out on the perimeter, which is the bread and butter for the 40 Niners, as you know, with the crack toss and the outside zone. And then all the play action stuff. It's going the opposite direction off of it. So when we've seen it so many times, I think we could easily see found the run down the run on the run. Now, here comes the keeper off of it, and you got 10 guys going one way and George Kittle going the other and that's the problem. Did you check could have a big game in the passing game. When you really look at what they are defensively and how they want to cover people so Um, you know, I just think it's all about just doing their thing. I really do. I think when you look at this offensive line that 49 years, I think it's the best in the division. Collectively, when you look at all five guys and And look at the depth players so Um, you know, they don't want to be one dimensional and want to get into a lot of third and seven pluses and having to Blanco, Cora and Trey flowers coming off the especially Cora. That's an old matchup from Notre Dame with Mike McGlinchey going against him. So, um And I love the matchup. To be honest with you. I know they will not overlook this team, and people can say what they want on paper. I've seen that there are 10.5 point favorite or whatever this This team has lost enough games in the last four years to understand that there's there's no gimmes in pro football so Think they go execute do their thing. He should come out of there feeling pretty good, and it really reminds me of a lot of 2019 when going on the road for the first two. Both teams with new coaches, new systems trying to figure it out. Struggled a little bit weak. One at Tampa came alive and the run game week 28. I'd love to see him click right out of the gate Here. Start this season off, right? The defensive line it do you think it can be the equal or maybe even better than the 2019 version of the defensive line? Yeah, I think that remains to be seen. I'm really excited to watch deep forward and what he brings to the table and being healthy again and I'll tell you practice is any indicator when they get some of those team drills. I will bet you half of his Russia's and practice have been would be faxing games so he can still turn the corner..

"Is is breathing down his neck. I think he knows that. Yeah, I don't know if what he said was necessarily a tail, but I think he knows it. I think that some of his other comments about, like, you know, we're here for each other and, and, you know, I'm going to be there for each other during this whole thing. Caves not dumb, he knows what's going on. He knows this kid was a first-round pick. He knows that he, you know, when you think of a Patriots quarterback in this offensive system, Mac Jones looks the part from, you know, mostly the way he operates the offense, but many other ways, but I think that he knows what Josh wants, he knows what what's called for in this offense from. You know, you look at that pressure, when he, when he got sacked and almost fumbled on the the first possession and you see the pressure coming, you see the safety coming into the box. They have seven guys in the box. That's the same spot that we talked about last year gym. Where that's where you suck. Not only do you need to hurry up, but the Patriots offense, the the beauty of it. And why? I think it's the best one in the NFL is because it gives the quarterbacks. It gives the the offensive, the whole answers to what the defense wants to do, whether it's, you know, option routes, where if the defense is playing you this way, then you can do this route. And and there is a spot for if that's Mac Jones in that spot. And I'll be interesting to see if we see it next week, if that's Mac, Jones in that spot. I wonder if the kid is at the point where he goes. All right, check, he changes everything at the line where he's like. All right, they're coming. We're going to real quick. Block it up, Max protection. We're going to go play-action. Boom, down the field. We're going to try to burn them cuz they're coming after us. We're we're Cam Newton, sits there and sees it coming tells you who the mic is. Wonderful, that doesn't really help us and then Wonder attack, it's Cam. Newton is locked in the same offense that he was a year ago. He needs to make more progress than that. He needs to be able to use more the tools in this offense at this point. And and if he if he if he isn't there or he's not going to get there by the season opener. I don't see the point in having Ms. Quarterback again. All right. Some attitude with this dude, too. And I mean, that in the most, complimentary way possible earlier in the week and paraphrasing here, but he was basically saying, like, no, I want people to keep an eye on me and and call me out for not playing. Well, like this isn't a guy Greg. Correct me if I'm wrong that, you know, got the bag of money and it's just going to come here and loaf. Like I think this is a guy that feels like he's got something to prove. Yeah, I'm sorry, you know, we'll ultimately see. I mean everybody has a honeymoon period when they come to a new team, especially one that pays them a lot of money, but I'll tell you, you know, there are people in Baltimore who are very interested to see how this whole thing goes with him here. He he was known to be sort of pain in the rear to the office there in Baltimore with some of his contract stuff. Maybe that. Now that he's gotten more, he wants to get paid, maybe that's on issue here. But off I'll just say that. I don't think Baltimore shed a whole lot of Tears when he signed elsewhere in the offseason, but oftentimes those guys are the Patriots game and we'll sleep wage. You know, he signed here, Clean Slate. We'll see what happens. He's off to a good start. I would like to see a little bit more of him in the past for us going forward. He hasn't been yet a good first day in one-on-ones. Long, has it been great ever since but he's going up against Trump round and Isaiah Wynn who are too pretty good tackles, when didn't look great against Chase young tonight, but Chase young does that to a lot of good tackles in this league but dead? We'll see, he's off to a good start just about Matthew judon, and we'll see how it goes going forward. Hey Greg, I'm looking at that defensive line. Obviously, God chose an addiction. They bring in montravius Adams and Henry Anderson their deep at defensive line. Not to mention a couple of guys who made a step last year. Who do you see as the odd man out? And is that something that came out this preseason? Yeah, they are deep. I just wrote a column the other day sort of, you know, going over the offensive and defensive line. So I think both lines are have the potential to be really good. I will say I did not think that the interior defensive line got off to a good start tonight. I think it's going to be a rough week for them with the corrections. Got show was a guy who I saw again, you know, moved a lot of didn't really exactly anchor there in the middle of the line. They were a little bit shorthanded. I'm pretty sure I saw Akeem Spence out there, you know, starting the game. Just being with the starters. And so there's a lot to hash out there Byron, cowards, been on pop. So we haven't seen him yet. They certainly need bodies up their own looked at did the the roster is going to be a bit different this year because they are they are way aways from field for three that they used to run when Trey flowers with here. Now, they are now a 3-4 months and they're deep all over the place at every linebacker position. Once some of the guys start to get healthy, the defense of interior. I think we'll take care of itself. Anderson's wage here. I know he played deep in the second half but he's been outstanding so far in training camp that all hashed self out with injuries and things like that, but I don't see out of the top tier guy, I think wage Adams. He got off to a good start. He has slumped over the past couple of weeks. He needs to sort of finish strong to stay on this team. He didn't get much guaranteed money if any so.

"Their first round picks veterans. As i said before so they're really going to be looking for guys like ernest brown. The defense northwestern who is really really large versatile type guy six foot five two hundred and seventy pounds but can he developed a pass rushing game yet. Now i didn't see that in college northwestern kane. He developed that jacob harris to ucf wide receiver look in the fourth round other wide receivers. I liked but they wanted the big body so they get as big body red zone threat. Six foot five hundred eleven pounds huge catch radius but he struggled with drop in the football at ucf. So he's going to go in. He's going to be a developmental player there. And we'll see if sean mcvay is going to be able to get him on the field and ask for jake. Funk seventh round pick look solid size two hundred and five pounds more with scat back type of guy but he can lower shoulder and has solid contact balance but they bring them in there to be a special teams player. that's why they added him. And then the other two guys garrett. I didn't watch at all and scores. He is just notre dame guy technical type of wide receiver has good size. Athletic ability just is not there. He did a solid job. Contessa cat situations at the throughout his college. Career went down. The senior bowl ended up. Getting hurt. Did not playing the game. But he's somebody who try to crack the back end of the roster but all in all the rams graft i'm not in love with it to be honest with you. I think there were better drafts. And to go over one. That i wouldn't necessarily call better and has mainly because this team had three picks and that's the seattle seahawks yes and three picks up a second round pick a fourth round pick and a six round pick. Their second round pick was dwayne s. Reach the wide receiver from western michigan. And you know what this does makes it the seattle seahawks los tyler. Lockett they love de que metcalf. But they didn't want freddie swain to be taymor was for them and dwayne. He's an upgrade over. What david moore was especially from a david. Moore was an underrated player. In my estimation he ended up believing in free agency between akridge so he could take the top off defenses. Really lightning quick. He was the talk of the senior bowl. Everybody was just raving. About how much of a quality player duane escort was. Didn't end up playing in the game because he made all that money theoretically for himself earlier and practices but adding him is going to allow team to switch to more leban- personnel packages more competent. Eleven personnel package. Now s krige. It's going to be able to block if you want to be consistent within that eleven personnel package but you can line them up as the z with the cap as the ex tyler lockett in the slot. And you have really solid trio for russell wilson. So i understand that. Pick from the seattle seahawks perspective trae brown the oklahoma cornerback went down to the senior bowl. Look i thought he was up and down. I thought was better than his teammate. Trade norwood who was the other. Oklahoma cornerback down there. But he's not that tall but he. He doesn't have the arm length to to really be a threat in contested catch situations but he's just a phenomenal athlete. You adam to seattle. Pete carroll has done wonders developing later round picks specially p caroline his staff. I should say especially quarterbacks. That official cornerbacks and ken norton junior has also done a really good job the defensive coordinator for the seattle seahawks so adding him as one of their three picks are going to hope to get some sort of development out of them and they may need it. They lost shack griffin last year. And they have they bring in a keller witherspoon downgrade from chad gripping trey flowers appear to see her who's just been bouncing around everywhere he may be relying on someone like trae round as early as you're one of the injury happens and that could be problematic but we'll have to wait and see and then stone foresights in a six round. The florida offensive. Tackle lookie six eight three hundred seven pounds. A lot of people that i knew in the draft community had him much higher than i did now. He has the footwork. He has the length he can bend over a big guy so you look at it like how is this guy not a first round pick. He just doesn't have the demeanor in the rushing portion of office of line. there's a lot of blocks for he leans into asia's falls off blocks and he doesn't have that finishing type of mentality to really look for not in the sense of christian. Bears or cushenberry's. I'll took some plays off not not necessarily like it was just. It wasn't a consistent part of his game as a run blocker. It's something that you know. Seattle see truly put a high priority on but pass protection stone foresight. His jump from his junior senior year was pretty impressive. And he really shutdown ziesel ari for a lot of their twenty twenty game. So i like this. Pick at this part draft. Sixth round somebody who has the footwork has a length has been has the ability. Those things are incredibly hard. teach for offensive. Lineman's you get him there. I am one hundred percent five. Pick at that point now. If he was picked in the second round. I would not have been as big a fan of so. Let's move on to the final team. And that is the san francisco forty niners who dodged a theoretical bullet of selecting mack jones. Everybody was losing their minds. I don't know where that came from. But someone started that rumor that mack jones was going to be the pickets really and kyle shanahan traded all that draft capital. Go up and get them. None of that ended up being true whatsoever. And kyle shanahan guy was trae lance and the quarterback i thought about when i heard the san francisco forty niners trading up. I i thought about was freelance. Trae played in a system that loved to check down fullbacks. An loves to do that played in a pro system set his protections he. It was system where he didn't have to throw the football. That much in north dakota state but it was a system where he had to rely where he had so much responsibility knowing what was going to do to do knowing what his teammates had to do and then executing so many different things and making different adjustments and calls right before the snap. Put a lot on their quarterback shoulders. And now you bring them into this more quarterback quote unquote friendly system and now you can add the running element to this kyle. Shanahan rushing attack. It's going to be insane when you think about it. Just watch all twenty two akal shanahan russian of football the counters and the movement the pulling the deception. It's just a beautiful work of art. Masterpiece kyle shanahan is able to do. And there's reasons why guys like rocky moster and tevin coleman and these running backs that are castaways and other places ended up being sol-solid in that system and they added another running back in this draft mitchell in the six round they added wing goldman. They just have so many running. Gags at trae sermon. and the third round. I mean there's so many running backs there but it doesn't necessarily matter because kyle shanahan just makes running backs. Good we saw. Jeff wilson multiple three touchdown games. Last year was insane or just multiple touchdown games but getting trae lance. That is the quarterback of the future. He's gonna end up starting this year. Despite the fact that jimmy garoppolo may be on the roster but that is an excellent selection by kyle shanahan. He has his guy and this could be just incredibly dangerous combination of shanahan and trae lands in the national football league. Second round they get. Aaron banks notre dame offensive guard third round. They go with trae sermon. Ohio state running. Back and amber. Thomas michigan cornerback. Fifth round than go with jalen more western michigan offense of guard deal. Ma dre lenore or cornerback and to lana who.

Ryan shot up to our favorite neighbor over here. Thank you. So, thank you. Uh, what's good? I just wanted to talk about Matthew Stafford. Um You know, living in Chicago. Now we just wanted to say that we feel he should go to, uh, the Chicago Bears for clear. Mac won't just thinking the Bears. I've never had a quarterback and winds have never had a defense for murder. That's true. That's true. There'll be a genius. Move. What do you think the Bears would take us? That is that Rizzo in the background? That's how you know they're from Chicago named your Dog, Rizzo. Great name, No great name, but, yeah. Hey, look at that. That is a that would be crazy. I mean, lives never had a really, you know, Defensive stud. And Mr Biscuit. I mean, he's four and one against the lions. So that's saying something, But he's you know, historically a bad quarterback. The worst. Yeah, that would be wow. I like that. You're saying kill two birds with one stone here. So you know what? This was mad and everybody all for? It s so this is the real world. I don't know. It's never pan out. But I'm all for it. I know that we're all in agreement. I love Calo back to Detroit. We need a defense would be great. Yeah, I think so, too. All right, guys. Well, I just wanted to say my two sons and I hope you have a good evening. You two things painted. One could call. Hey, Cool. Mac will be fantastic here. Every great would be amazing, but unfortunately, it's not mad, and we can't just force trade son crazy. A magic of the Chicago Bears agrees. Is that wow? Very last save up to get him, right? Yeah, Yeah. Oh, my God. That's an equivalency. They gave up their whole organization for him. Oh, man. Was already bombed. That treated Coolio Mac away because he was one of like he was the Raiders was that was a bad this. Well, actually, I don't know it kind of worked out for the Raiders. Oh, it definitely did. Yeah, It's just it's one of those things were like You want to see your dude out on the field on your team? Yeah. Oh, yeah, That would be crazy if he if a division rival, they work that out somehow I'm all for it. Yeah, it's good. Louis Riddick. Hopefully there's a thing they would do it. Only based on the fact that Khalil Mack is gonna sack Stafford and probably giving his last injury. Oh, yeah, that's a good boy. If Matthew Stafford played for the Bears and cool Mac was in the Lions, I will. Who do you root for? I'm going to say, Knock his head off. Go for it. Quill. It's open season. You go for it because of Cologne Coz here we've She's right. We never had a defense. So if Calo Mac comes a Detroit you're talking about Trey Flowers, Rodeo, Cora and Calo back. Rushing the Matthew Stafford two times a year. It'll be lights out for the guy would not have even have no time to throw the ball. You be insane, but unfortunately, that's not humanly possible. I don't think I'll ever happen. Unless they go. Matthew Stafford 12 1st round picks for Chlo back. I think that's the only way that son Stafford and Golladay Golladay went to an eye. You he knows Illinois a little bit. Get clear on that. I'm not opposed to that. I don't know. I'm kind of for it. No, I know I'm talking about holiday, though, how they want to, and I Yeah. Then you could trade. I like it. Let's make it happen. 892 3 93 85 hours or phone number. Uh, Matthew Stafford for Calo Mac. When I don't know. I mean, I think the bears go to the playoffs with Stafford. I am really in wild card fashion or winning the division fashion actually think it's a game one like of the season and let's say we have this this Lineup like who they're playing this year. I think to go to the playoffs. Really? I really think to give the Packers a run for their money. Wow, because I think a lot of the stigma Of being on the Lions is gone from Stafford when he gets onto another when he suits up in another color. No, Look, I love Stafford was saying that there is a smudges. We don't want to be superstitious about it. There's no reason why It has to be this way. For the team. Yeah. You mean cursed? Yeah, I'm just saying no, like waken. Look at any of those teams like right down the line. Anybody who's hurting right now for a quarterback. And we all know sending Stafford there. Realistically makes them that much better to where They're probably going to the playoffs. Like all of the team's almost every single one of the teams that you could think about having quarterback trouble that could send Stafford or get Stafford I think they would immediately make them better. So if you take him to Chicago, they're automatically a play off team if you take him to Dallas, where they have playoff team Nobody wants to win that division, and then we would have got Stafford back in like a week five or weeks six, and they basically plugged the quarterback hole that they got when they lost, Dak. I think that they would be three or four games ahead of anybody else in the NFC East. So why the hell are the Lions in a playoff team? We We have the guy. I understand that, But like I said, I think it's a couple things like we have to play the Packers every year. You know how that is. The bears always a crapshoot. We always end up screwing one of the game's over. Yeah, and that was that week one. Yeah. Where we literally were winning. And it didn't matter. It was just like Mitch coming through for some reason, because you always know whenever you face the Bears. Whoever he's whoever bitches quarterbacking against its plus for the other team. Oh, yeah. Compliance. But I mean, the Vikings were kind of a coin flip to Yeah, they're always mediocre. And they can always, you know, winning game here and there, But that's the thing we do play the tough division ship. I know I'm being like Super Uh, you know, pie in the sky like unrealistic, but like They don't have to win the division that that team can easily go. Like 10 and six and still get the five or six seed. There'll be a good team. There's normally two good teams in this division every year. Well, this is a tough division of playing. I just can't wait till Rogers is out of town. Uh, that'll be the way you look amazing. Everybody wait until Brett Farve leads the NFC North dude. Yeah..

Ryan shot up to our favorite neighbor over here. Thank you. What good. I just wanted to talk about Matthew Stafford. You know, living in Chicago. Now we just wanted to say that we feel he should go to, uh, The Chicago Bears for Khalil Mack won't just thinking the Bears. I've never had a quarterback and winds have never had a defense. So that's true. That's true. There'll be a genius move. You think the Bears would take us that is that Rizzo in the background? That's how you know they're from Chicago. Named your Dog, Rizzo. Great name, No great name, but, yeah. Hey, look at that. That is a that would be crazy. I mean, lies never had a really, you know, Defensive stud. And Mr Biscuit. I mean, he's for and one against the lions. So that's saying something, But he's you know, Historically, a bad quarterback is the worst. That would wow. I like what you're saying. Kill two birds with one stone here. So you know, Yeah, I like this is mad and everybody all for it. It's the real world. I don't know this lever pan out, but I'm all for it. And I know that we're all in agreement. I love Kal El back breaking to Detroit. We need a defense would be great. Yeah, I think so, too. All right, guys. Well, I just wanted to say my two sons and I hope you have a good evening to you. Things paid call. Hey, Cool. Mac could be fantastic. Here will be great to be amazing, but unfortunately, it's not mad, and we can't just force trades done. A magnet of the Chicago Bears agrees. Is that wow? Very last thing. You want to get him, right? Yeah. Oh, my God. That's an equivalency. They gave up their whole organization for him. Oh, man. Was already bombed in that traded Khalil Mack away because he was one of like he was the Raiders was that was a bad list. Well, actually, I don't know it kind of worked out for the Raiders. Oh, it definitely did. Yeah, It's just it's one of those things were like You want to see your dude out on the field on your team? That would be crazy if he if a division rival, they work that out somehow I'm all for it. Yeah, Let's get Louis Riddick. Hopefully, here's the thing. I don't think they would do it. Only based on the fact that Khalil Mack is going to sack Stafford and probably giving his last injury. Oh, yeah, employ if Matthew Stafford play for the Bears and cool Mac was in the lions. Who do you root for? I'm going to say, knock his head off for quill. It's open season. You go for it because of Cologne Coz here we've She's right. We never had a defense. So if Calo Mac comes a Detroit you're talking about Trey flowers, Romeo Cora and Calo Mac. Rushing the Matthew Stafford two times a year. It'll be lights out of me. The guy would not have even have no time to throw the ball will be insane, but unfortunately that's not humanly possible. I don't think I'll ever happen. Unless they go. Matthew Stafford 12 1st round picks for Hello, Mac. I think that's the only way that son Stafford and Golladay Golladay went to an eye. You He knows Illinois a little bit it clear. I'm not opposed to that. I don't know. I quit. I'm kind of for it. No, I know I'm talking about holiday to how they want to. And I Yeah, maybe you could trade I like it. Let's make it happen. 893 93 85 was our phone number. Matthew Stafford for color, Mac When I don't know, I mean, I think the bears go to the playoffs with Stafford. I am really in wild card fashion or winning the division fashion actually think it's a game one like of the season and let's say we have this this Lineup like who they're playing this year. I think they go to the playoffs. Really. I really think they give the Packers a run for their money. Wow, because I think a lot of the stigma of being On the Lions is gone from Stafford when he gets onto another when he suits up in another color. No. Look, I love Stafford. I'm just saying that there is as much as we don't want to be superstitious about it. There's no reason why It has to be this way. For the team. Uh, you mean cursed? Yeah, I'm just saying no, like waken. Look at any of those teams like right down the line. Anybody who's hurting right now for a quarterback. And we all know sending Stafford there. Realistically makes them that much better to where They're probably one of the playoffs. Like all of the team's almost every single one of the teams that you could think about having quarterback trouble that could send Stafford or get Stafford. I think they would immediately make them better. So if you take into Chicago, they're automatically a playoff team playoff team if you take him to Dallas or their playoff team. Nobody wants to win that division, and then he would have got Stafford back in like week five or week six, and they basically plugged the quarterback hole that they got when they lost AC I think that they would be three or four games ahead of anybody else in the NFC East. So where the hell are the Lions in a playoff team? We We have the guy. I understand that, But like I said, I think it's a couple things like we have to play the Packers every year. You know how that is. The bears always a crapshoot. We always end up screwing one of the game's over. Yeah, and that was that week one where we literally were winning, and it didn't matter. It was just like Mitch coming through for some reason, because you always know whenever you face the Bears. Whoever he's whoever. Mitch is quarterbacking against its plus for the other team. Oh, yeah. Appliance, But I mean, the Vikings are kind of a coin flip to Yeah, they're always mediocre, And they can always, you know, win a game here and there, but that's the thing we do play.

NFL Rumors Mailbag: Kyler Murray, Justin Houston Trade
"Yeah. What this is shocking to me in the sense that when we were having this discussion about quarterback musical chairs in the fall. My thought had always been the Jags are going to draft a quarterback. And it still seems to me like the more prudent direction here is for them to move up for Golic Hoskins or Murray rather than giving Nick foles twenty million dollars a year when you're already over the cap, it just I just don't understand what if the answer is both. And what I mean by this is that Dave Gettleman came out and said the sin. I think this has the opportunity to be very dumb trend around the league. But did other came out and said, we'll work was the Kansas City mom's it's stupid way to think about which is adding a veteran die on a legitimate contract. And then the guy learning behind him. Now, I don't think that them bring in foles precludes them from taking quarterback in the first two rounds. I don't know if they bring in foles, obviously at a number like twenty they're not gonna trade up into the top five, but they could still draft a a significant future starter quarterback type guy. Now, I think is a couple of things we need to to sort of peel back on with the Kansas City model first of all not everybody's gonna be Patrick Mahomes. Second of all the infrastructure in Kansas City was so remarkably good perfect. They basically structure had Nagy and and read working with Smith and they assigned Mike kaffa to Patrick Mahomes. And so you. Had not only Mahomes working with Alex Smith every day working with read in in meetings. But also anytime he needed something explained to him. He basically had the quarterbacks coach at his disposal. The infrastructure and other places is not going to be like that. There aren't three really smart or four because out include Eric b enemy in that. There are not four really smart innovators in thirty one of the other teams in this league. So if you're going to try the Kansas City, Molly better have Kansas City coaches, and you'd better have talent like Patrick Mahomes need better have a leader like Alex Smith. I just think that was a unicorn if you want to replicate a good luck. It does not make sense to me to allocate your resources in that way. If you're going to sign Nick foles, the idea of drafting a quarterback in the first two rounds, you are team that is built to win at this very moment. That's why you're signing foles using a high level draft pick on a quarterback while also burning twenty million bucks on your starter that I I have no idea. Why teams think that's a good? It's the same thing. The cardinals last year paying Sam Bradford what they did. Wall dressing. Josh Rosen like just put him in just put him in. I it's Mahomes is such a different case in that team was on such a different part of where they wanted to go in their schedule. The Jacksonville Jaguars are there. But why would you tr what would you also draft the guy? I just don't understand that at all. I don't know teams plan specifically. But there are a lot of teams don't know what they're doing. No. There are a lot of towns lie they're doing I don't know if anybody's looked into the last the NFL's celebrating one hundred years and one of the Constance is like my field of dreams speech. The only constant is a lot of teams and have no idea what they're doing my favorite part about. This is gonna be what happens with the offensive line market the players in the pass rushing market or good enough that even with those top four guys off giving Dante Fowler big deal or Trey flowers Iansa. There are players I like in that group more than others. But I'm still okay. With a guy like trae flowers. Getting paid. But it's going to be amazing when the guy Daryl Williams is off the board and then Roger Sappho than teams like, well, we're the Donovan Smith winners five years sixty million.
