UFC featherweight champ defends title in split decision

"I Will Fight Island was officially christened tonight for the UFC in Abu. Dhabi there was no baptism to be had in the main event of UFC two fifty one. What's going on everybody? Welcome to the official. You have to fifty one post fight. Show here on, May, finding dot com I'm Mike Heck location this week from Boston Massachusetts visiting the parents this weekend. That is Jose Jose. Main Event Kamara, who's been retains a welterweight title against Whore Mazal. Challenger looked pretty darn good in that first round. I'm pretty surprised that judges gave in that first round, but it was the much fresher champion that was able to sort of chip away at the always game, or hey mazda throughout the fire Ab. Fresher champion but Komo. Zeman was basically been in camps since beginning of this year, despite was like Ben Booked and booked in both supposed to fight earlier this by giving burns, and also muzzle steps in, so yes, he's finally fresher because he he's had the full camp and everything but I think Kamara wasn't one hundred percent in that fight, either considering this long extended, Feick at Ala, similar to twenty Ferguson with all these these these fights falling apart, but Kamara who's been one nonetheless, might not have been the most exciting fight. I saw a couple of tweets complaining about the fight and I really take that. I felt it was a lot of fans that were on this very muzzle hype train. He's on the video game cover on this baptism round the resurrection Super Necessary Punches bef tile, and that they were expecting violence, even mice I myself said fight between WHO's minimize well probably has a higher chance of ending in a violent way, but it did not come out who's been one I had them winning all five rounds the first round I guess. Didn't really matter to me. Who won that? I still come who's been what at least four of the rounds comfortably? The people complain about. The foot stopped the wrestling the headbutts. That stuff will come out. Who's been did what he had to do to win. That's exactly why I thought he would. Take, her might as well because all the time Mazal taking this fight on short notice. Kamara also took this fire. On short notice gets an extra a completely different fighter between Gilbert Burns as well. It's completely rechange leftist camp Had his new trevor wittman is corn for the first time fighting the guy all this bad blood is in the air all the pressures on him, and perform a like we ourselves, said all the pressures on who's Madonna not not a whole lot on Mazal, but at the end of the day. Who's been doing what he had to do? I didn't have a problem with the way fought. Might not have been the most exciting, but if I was going to pick up, predict away whose men would pull this off. This is exactly how I thought he would do it. Yeah, when you get a fight like this and you have a guy as hot as MAS. Bat brings in a lot of the casual fan base. Does your watch? As many events as we watch, and some of the hardcore fans watch everything so most people expected this fight to go exactly that way I thought the first row was going to be the most interesting round, obviously, because of Mazda was going to get it done. He's probably going to have to do it in the first five minutes, and this is the fire. We got like Mara. Who's been defends his title. For the second time. It was another classic who's been like performance and he gets a one-sided win and highly anticipated main event so in the end. We like to talk about the overall letter grade, but it felt like just kind of looking at the time slot when we're all said and done. We're getting ready to hit record here. We're just like man this is this is super late like I feel like the card and the whole night in a weird way. Wet Kinda slow did it not. started off really really quickly. Might just. Like I feel like the first few flew by and all of a sudden I had been watching fights for two and a half three hours and I'm like wow, this fight is cars going quickly I like this pace, and then we the main card and Amanda he boss comes in, and just submits patriots immediately i. wish went exactly as I expected, but then there was decision with Rosen on drugs, and then even Yawn Aldo finish, but it was in the fifth round, so there's still basically fought for twenty five minutes, and then we get twenty five minutes, Vulcanology Holloway and then we get twenty five minutes of in Mazda, also of these we've seen. We saw that graphic on the screen like. All the cards are three title fights, and like we used to fourteen had like Woodley Maya in Jones, a cormet and Cyborg Abinger, and then to seventeen to five those had some bangers like like two to seventeen had three epic fights three like violent, like just three of the craziest finishes you'll see. And then, of course to a five, the CONOR McGregor show, and then to seventeen had the DC Jones trilogy, so I think we're a little maybe. We'll. We'll spoiled on these three. These three title fight cars while we're expecting something like that and I loved all all great fights off spectacular fights, but I think a lot of fans are tuning in to see fight island. In the Mazar strain, all these title-fights might have been. A limited. I could see why they might have been little disappointed. I didn't have a problem with it, but probably was the night Dana White wanted in terms of finishes. Yeah, the main event may have disappointed some people but for. The Sake, this is like the best thing that could have happened for the welterweight division like if you're burns. Edwards these guys are pretty happy right now. Especially Gilbert Burns. One hundred percent I mean we. We set it on count after it was on what the heck or or post eyesore produce. All kind of blend together at this point in the summer, but we. We said if Moslem Dole wins. That's going to be a problem for the US's pockets the welterweight division I mean. We were talking about him fighting the bringing the both belts so that the Conor McGregor. The table and all this. Kamara who's been one and it's? It's a no brainer that Gobert burn gets three matches. Suppose he should've been fighting tonight. before covid nineteen October, nineteen. That's applaud the car, so yeah, for all the way division, and the the the martial art fans of the world that don't like quote unquote. Holding divisions I think that's a good thing, but I. Honestly I love chaos at Moscow had one I. Think I, think it would have been fun time in the world of May. And Mazda all. Let's be clear. We all know this. He was the a side heading into this fight. He's the reason. There was a lot of buzz and a lot of fanfare when you had a guy like game bread in the street that he's on. That's what happens, but a lot of people wanNA know where he goes from here. Because despite losing the fight tonight, he still has a ton of options moving forward. Chaos can still rain in some way Jose. Can you say that again? You cut off quick second. Chaos can rain. For horny Mas at all got about it because he's got so many options moving forward despite the loss tonight. Yeah, I mean Hoy Mazdas. All I'm Kamara. WHO's been himself set like he's GonNa. He's like. He's like he's GonNa. Lose all these like excuses. Bill didn't talk the finance days notice flu costs. The country doesn't have was coach in the gym, covert nineteen this and that so like I. Don't think I of course I think Mazda obviously cooled anytime. You lose. You cool a little bit Conor McGregor and Nadir's, and it's such an insane finish that they run it back, and you have another epic fight like that, but for Mazda all you're obviously going to a little bit but he himself said. Let me, get a couple of wins and they'll run back. I'm sure he want. He would love to five full camp but the Colby College. Is there I? Think that is going to drum up a whole lot of interest I. think people might even be more interested in that fight in the dynamic between those two fires, oarsmen and I think that Kobe Covington already Moslems? Fight does not need a title online. That's just two guys. They hate each other I wanNA break brick on each other's faces. WHO'S MCCANN? Fight Gillard. Leeann, Edwards of course out there, wonder boy thompsons, working his way up Santana, positive I think has covered to so he somewhere out there, so the welterweight division will move, but for now Mazda all. Of course cooled, but he's still I think still the hottest commodity hundred seventy pounds.

"And don't get bothered by tough fights got as time goes on and tough. I'd say where and you what's an example of somebody maybe from boxing again, or if it's may let me know. But is there ever been a is there ever an example of just like really solid cornering either stopping a beating from continuing or, you know, energizing a fighter to reach their maximum potential. Is there any moment, you can think of in a corner that was just incredibly pivotal and and just. I forget his name. I'm having a brain farm, but it was a few years ago. I had a great performance. He said, you gotta go in the fire like firefighter, Timothy brand speaking, Timothy what what a great job, I wonder, and you know, I always respected teddy atlas as a the cornermen, and he made a great commentator actually learned a lot about poaching by listening teddy and things in the long for the ended say, but that was a great corner just dicey. And he's you know, he's more full-time commentator slash part-time coats. And it just shows, you know, his long by, you know, it's it's it's it's how do you create energy? How do you create more energy? I mean, he was winning type and he knew that there was momentum. And he was able to build that momentum into a just a fireball. And that's what a corners. There to do is. How do you how do you create momentum or shift momentum? And that's always tough to do is have ship. How did you get into someone? Head and make them believe that they can still win the fight. And that's that's again, I just takes time experience, and again philosophy understanding, how the mind works understanding, how your athletes tell you what cornering now when I have three athletes compared to when I was had a team at grudge that, you know, forty professional athletes. Nine different when I was having too many athletes a lot of things that I did failed. According failed of the poach. For instance, I had a aid guy name Alvin Robertson five eight, and they were I did an interview and asked me about how playmates and I'm like, and I like, I don't think that's the point. I missed his appointment adjustments houses appointment, and they're both like fifty five at the time. And that's a big flag went off where I was wearing too many ads. I had too many athletes another time when those lots of Carlos, and you know, I didn't even talked to about five round fight here. She is three professional fights for we'll coming off field the fighter and seeing how boundary issue on the alternate fighter. Even when I wasn't coaching her all the beginning fan, and she went out there and hit this pace. And after the first round I didn't catch onto it. And afterwards, I seen her start to cave and one hundred percent was that. That night fall as a coach of the co pilot to not catch that and not plan to see that I needed to plant for fighter dead only has three five role titled who so young feel. We should have won that fight. If we would have understood the pace and understand the five around five and understood the only way that Carl could beater, you know, I came out of a fan voice last cheerleader, and those are those are part of the reason why I gave up on and said, hey, you know, I went back to Boston where I coached the athlete, and I don't have too many people. Saying the right things because everybody's saying different philosophies. You got so many coaches, you know, coaching you wear internet mindset, but you're going from one workout, and you got three workouts per day and east coast coach is pushing you to the limit here you are over training. So there's just so many different experiences that you go through. It's just how do you? How do you on it and make sure that it's it's balanced, and and again all about the athletes, and also when you have been alluding to this the entire interview, how different your athletes are certainly take some humility on the part of the coach. But it also takes keen awareness to got just engage. He the most exciting dynamic incredible talents and the division still highly ranked begins Edson Barboza. But I don't think it's any kind of controversial statement to say that that's a high risk Cairo..

"There's there's, you know, and it's not only just if someone being beat up like lights may have situation that I was aware of prior to going into that the doctors very concerned with his blood blood pressure is super super high, and they were resetting Dr territory, the doctors tired of the fight about two hours before he went out, and they were they're very concerned that this pressure and then when I had seen him performing. I was like this is there's something totally wrong. So already had an awareness to it. But it's not that you just stop the fight. It's only getting beat up. It's it's where are they in that? And does the guy has your number. That I end the cool thing about Emma may there's so many different ways the site can be stout. So I feel like that's a that's a big key to a lot of people aren't stopping, thanks. There's just change so quick to me. It's about the mindset of where that athlete is. And if you're taking an asshole been and that's Twitter. They're gonna be in there. You've got to be the one that steps up and takes you have to jump in there and make your phone and let the fighter in complain that they you should stop the fight because the more time that you get beat inside that cage. And you're you're getting dominated. That's that hurts you mentally, and that's hard to come back, and whether you just taking too many punches or does your need to be in there. Do you need to jump in there and say them and get them back, mentally, and and restrengthen the what's going on? And again, it's a lot of psyche. You gotta know your fighter in Kita all athletes getting that money training. Right that Money Train long. They can you see a lot of fighters you almost see their careers completely change..

"And he's like. For mouthpiece. And then like I didn't touch my pocket about pieces in there. And I have not forgot the mouthpiece since and that was probably two thousand and three and it takes scenarios like that. Where you know. It's just like just like the athlete. Athlete's is all about performance, and you gained from your, and sometimes you don't perform that really helps you out, and, you know, having that performance where I really dug into myself after that fight and it helped me never do that again. But I've got a I've got a laundry list of things that I laugh about what I've done in the corner before so super cool to be able to get out there and do that. But again, it's never vision when it takes ever go out there, and critique people who I learned from you know, what would you say about the state of ever may cornering? I think you would agree. Probably I don't wanna put words in your mouth, certainly. But for the time I've been observing the sport the last decade. And more. It's certainly gotten a lot better. But one of the things I've really noticed is a lot of us don't exist. And by that, I mean number one people who've done cornering in other similar combat force, which is and they have and those other sports like boxing long histories of cornering, and to it's a lot of really young people. It's a lot of teammates who am I also be active fighters cornering, you're seeing a little bit less of that. Now, you're seeing some generational shift to me, that's that's made cornering a little bit better still long way to go. What is your assessment of the state of Emmett cornering? Yeah. It's kinda long Ray. I mean, I come from the boxing world in the boxing world is you know, you have a couple of people in your corner. But there I mean one one time I had to get on the guilty as who was a cut man and very well-known cut, man. And I was wondering manual -pez. And he started like telling them what to do. And I had to jump on the night. I feel like doing vaccine cornering. It was really just you doing the instruction. And at least it was for me. I have a big team a lot of times that the boxing coach works with the boxer all the time. So the two you're listening to I know when I got into the made a lot of coaches that you're working with and that's why felt like a stick putting the wheel where it was very easy to have so many people told me right thing and everybody could be saying there, I think, but it's so much information or so much going into the fighter where it makes cornering very very very tough. And just like, you said a lot of times athlete and athletes. Aren't you? But it's it's almost like wasn't into a a mom yell into her son on the on the wrestling mat? So you know, you hear say squeezed harder going. Well, what does that mean? You know, it's it's definitely come a long way..

"Where we both interviewed each other eight mild wings and then work to super hot ones. Would you wanna do it? I mean, I'm bad with spicy stuff. But I'll give it a shot. Why not give it a shot? Okay. We're talking about two million Scoville level. You do it fro the internet demands your compliance. Are you going to be if enough people until one one do it? I'll do it. If you wanna see me, and Danny do it. Let us know on Twitter. If you don't you don't have to do. But I think it'd be kind of we've got to spice things up around here, no pun intended, my friend, and I would like to try that. I would like to put it on camera. I'll take the day off after this. So I don't have to go to my next job. And we just ruin our day with sports, maybe we can have sound. Off with wings. Yeah. But we have to get through all ten try. No iota. There is no try either do or do not I well, we'll cross that bridge. How about this? Let's plan something we'll come up with the plan. We'll float it to the audience. Would you be forming a plan? All right. And then we'll just throw acid Austin's face because he's stupid. Okay. Thank you. I appreciate a good job today. They're against we are not done here on the show. We have one more interview to get to I spoke to one of the great coaches in may who is now a commentator for ESPN he's doing like cornerman commentary, and then a little bit more Trevor Wittman he had he had a did a phenomenal job in the US's debut on ESPN. So I wanted to talk to him about it. Here's our conversation. And I'm joined now by coach and now commentator Trevor Wittman Trevor how are you, sir? How are you doing quite? Well, if you're making time for us, so it's actually jump right into it. I have to say what a pleasant surprise. That was when we saw you at the the ESPN plus event as this sort of, well, how would you define your role? Right. Because on the one hand you're discussing what's happening in the corners. But you were also talking about some of the action in the cage for the fights that self so you're commentator, but what is your specific role? I don't know they had called me about a week prior. And said, hey, we have this idea of you know, calling how the corners were and that a lot like how FOX was that ESPN is not going to be showing the corners, but pay per view does. So they asked if I can come and be a part of the peon events and do this position that they didn't know how it was gonna work. So I showed up and they put makeup by me. And I realized that make up on me might be doing on camera. And then they tested that out in the beginning. And kinda ran with it. And they would just ask a you're in there. Do you want to jump in? And I think we're just kinda swinging from the hip at the moment will I gotta say you're swinging from the hips looking pretty good. So there was there was no formal triumph for this or anything. No. Wow. That's so unusual television. I'm sure you know, that like just to get your dry run as the live version of it. It's highly unusual. What if? That is. I think they will. They told me that they might go on might not. So I think they tested it on the on the ESPN, plus the prelims prelims. So, you know, I guess it was going well because they kept me on every every part. So now have they discussed since then what their plan is. Yeah. At first they wanted me to do every everyone, and I just said, hey, man, I'm I'm super busy with with onyx and with athletes, and I don't wanna take on too much. And they wanted me to see if I could do everyone just hold on internationally at the moment..

"If my car one comes in Brazil to be is used to star and comes disliked by designing population, which you know, is that air to you on your starting a he's pop in his home country. And what kinda got out to know pop. I feel like that hinders the billions have become popular in Brazil that very, you know, very shortsighted dumb kind of idea and what they did. Okay. Here's the interesting about that. I know on our site. I don't think I know. For fact, our videographer Casey didn't like the match making. He knows a lot about the sport. I I'm not sure if jed liked it. I can't REM are disliked it. I cannot remember beget this likes everything he truly is the world's angriest man, he just needs a trash can and a green body paint. And he is Oscar the graphs for sure. But but they, but they had in fairness to both of them. They had raise what this guy's raising some pretty legitimate objections. Here's the thing about it. You heard Ricardo talking about Brazil is up against a challenge because the class that Ricardo came from the veto required. Alameda got out of MA in twenty eleven but you know, he was ADC medalist and he had a great career in MMA. And then you had the Morello Bustamante as and the out the Lerone as and the babba lose and the Nogueira brothers Anderson and she'll gun and ninja. And all this eventually in this incredible class. I mean, I remember whether it was like so many good Brazilian fighters that Brazilian top team shoot to box. This big rivalry in a one one time at some point in time. We had like like six UFC champions or something like that like or five UFC Brazilian champions at the same time or some to the previous question that we had been raised on the tweets, they still produce an enormous amount of talent their own gear. Crews had noted one that regional may has really suffered with the economic attraction. Some other regulatory issues that have happened in Brazil and to here's the victims. You have see is looking for. They are looking for the next big Brazilian star. Right. So that's where we'll senior comes in Paul Kosta. Hutto McConnell was one. I think they're still looking to. Maybe we can turn the corner Thomas l Mehta for a while was maybe going to be one of those guys and they judge locked Walker. We'll see what happens with him. But none of these guys yet have gotten crossed into that next threshold. And you get these other Brazilian guys Silva's in his forties. Jacques array is right around. Then garrison out of the well, I think little knock Stolnis. But you get the idea. I mean, they're all age out a little bit here. And so they're trying to find the next one. And it's just been a bit of an issue. My thought is I hear the objections from people who didn't like it. I can't really say they're wrong. But to me, I kind of want to know what more Connell was made of is ready or is he not pretty fairly. He's not. And if you're not you're not I guess I said right now, I didn't say that right now. I mean, I do I do understand this call's coming from not necessarily like I feel like if more Kana would have won because it's a gamble. Right. What if we would have one who knows what would have happened? Then. Right. But I feel like at this point anybody you matchup Jose, all the with at one forty five. It's pretty much a bad match because he's clearly not going to beat max Holloway. I mean, we saw that twice. We saw a plot twice and it played out kind of the same way. Right. Both times. But he's still clearly that number two guy like anytime you put him up. He's going to be. You're Joseph innovate is in the sense of like, he might not be the champion, but he can be every single other content. Right. So he's not going to be that. He's not gonna be fighting the champion anytime soon because he's got two losses. But he's gonna kill every contender. If you give them the champ if you act like that was a given. I think after the two max fights. There was a question of what he left now. Now now and looking back. It's like, okay. Well, he couldn't beat max. But max is pretty good. And it looks like he's got some life left..

"Ten thirty. What am I supposed to do with my night? Now, I have no wonder caller, hang out with I go meet girl fizzy. What do with the rest of my night now that they're done at a reasonable hour. First of all Diego. You're absolutely, Tracy. The ESPN timing was made it was that not being serious about this. I didn't realize how bad it was. Sorry. Collapsed here. I didn't realize I didn't realize how much it was taking out of me. I was literally watching those F S one cards resentful of the sport. I cannot believe I've wasted my stupid life doing this. And now I feel like oh my God. Like, what do you want to do go to the bar read a book do some sit ups? Learn how to cook go to great courses. Plus, I don't know sit there and say fief go to bed early. You got so many options. Those things you can do with your life. Now in Brooklyn, go get some food, man. There's food in Brcko get some Komeda, whatever you gotta do man to me. I was sitting in watching being like, I had no idea. What I was missing. No idea what it felt so much better. It was that F S one cards the way they were doing it was such a tax on our lives. I hate it actually for the media too. Because you know, the fans watch fights when they're over there over right like stick around for the press conference. Right. They're working that night that night. I was watching a fight house tweeting them life, but I was in necessarily working. So after I was I was done with the fights. I was done. Yeah. And man, it was awesome. I I went to celebrate. My friend's birthday saw your Instagram story. Yeah. Shot concerns. I of though, she it's birthday on Tuesday. So we went out to celebrate. And I can't believe all the things that I did on Saturday because like we start at what like six PM usually with the F S one car. It takes up your entire day. I look I'm sure some are going to go late. The paper views are still doing what they are. But this is the best part about it before they had to make every card work for f s one schedule. And so you were having cards in Argentina or in Chile or in Brazil that were ending three or four local time in the morning something absurd now they get to put it back. When you're when you're streaming. It doesn't matter books are gonna catch it live. They're going to catch it after the facts microphones having some issues here. So you can have it end at a reasonable hour in Brazil and not have to worry about it anymore because you're streaming one of the benefits of streaming on the other hand one of the downsides is I'm not sure how many people saw it that was kind of concerned. Yeah. When the fight card actually rolled in. I was like looking at the main car, I'm like oh shit. There's actually a pretty good card like this a solid card. But for some reason it didn't feel like a big event. I wonder if maybe if they would've switched the Coleman. And main of Jose Aldo was featured as the main guy. I wonder if that would have changed anything around because he is a former champ pay per view. You know, he's done so many of us as well. I I can't claim to have watched ESPN on Sunday. So I don't know if they covered it at sportscenter. I don't know what they did. But everything just felt so Super Bowl heavy on Sunday. That kinda drowned out a big weekend for sports. Oh, you know what? I mean. It's like I wanted to see how it goes. By the way, I didn't realize do y'all call the Super Bowl super tests on it super. I believe that's more in Mexico is actually really big in Mexico for folks. I know literal Super Bowl like a bowl of cereal. Yeah. But tests on. Yeah. That's funny. Okay. What's next? All right. The saw about some matchmaking. So about that Kumon event. All right. Jack from New York. So I kind of a, you know, general comment about all of them. What kind of I believe that matches title Beijing by the gifts e? Easy situation for your if all the way, she obviously kind of McConnell shrubbery and Kim I'll kill off one of the greatest concerns in Brazil..

"We don't yet. Like he's ever. Really, super flashy is just devastating. And like, you guy, he'll do X is a big thing kick knockout, you know, that was that was devastating also like super flashy, and and more on you know, without flash. But with you know, decisive violence to finish these so always people are gonna think authentic guy gonna think they have that whole Idaho. Or you know, his been some fights. It's finished so quick. They haven't really had too short. A, you know, by the way, have you gone back and watch the fight on video yet. I have. And I just I I was actually at the airport the leading if I left bite after the fight. I went straight to the fourth and I saw the finish. But yeah, just finishing combo where he's lips throws like cut in the hook. And you know, steps back drops in aids the first right hand, and they just the speed. It's another another one to look incredible Stephen pollen that in that. And then to follow up and finish. It was just I had my mouth open at the and all that. How did you just do all that in like two minutes? You know, what's crazy? Okay. Here's one thing. I'm legitimately asking. Because I have no idea, obviously, he won via mounted arm in guillotine. But I went back, and I watched this euro black belt high level one that s on Sal had both his hands free. And then brought them both to the inside to defend. Why did he do that? I think that we're more fun of the squeezing. He pulled guard. He was free. And I think that I think that also the arm down to try to block the as you roll, you know, and moral smart step step, though, the leg on the same side of the chill for the one that you kinda you know, you you want the the guys who you'll be traveling there and like on the role. He was to end up evolving, climbing get the arms phones arms which trap, and then the after pool that on out from the on those stuck into to be finished. You know, so to top three, and I and I couldn't say from the aim of that I were just see Marlin like dropping the hips and having to four arm to tap. I don't I don't know. A lot of the transition guys. Don't don't try to do that. But as you as you will, you know, you end up above the arms couple of finishes. Very Gary have been a couple of things like that. Interesting. Okay. I'll go back and look at it another time because that would kind of confused me was a little weird. But it was devastating all the same. And you get a tap from half L sons how you earn it. And at he certainly did. Now that leads us to the next step. You have got to like his chances against anyone that way class. Tell me how in your mind that you think Marlin matches up with TJ dillashaw. Yeah. The the power and defense all of of mar on, you know, and and I think the the shorts trying to move around and you kind of comment from angles and things like that. And I think on the first style for more. I think do assures weakest spot is wrestling to be honest. I mean, he's not the guy that could you know, Britain with a whole lot of faith down and take down like old is, but it's gotten thanking all along. And I don't think that he has like the down button. I mean, you know, I wanna take this down this dead. So then you're gonna fight bond standing for twenty five minutes. I just I just think it's all, you know, like, not the from from Jamie..

"When was this fight week fight week for you have see on ESPN plus for one, and he was again, I don't have a contender anymore. That's why the won twenty five makes sense. And I'm like, okay doing it was true. Like those guys had to fight. Okay. Well, they fought now. Now, it's pretty clear. Let's try one more time. Go to our friend here on the phone. It's Ricardo Hirakawa. Oh, can you hear me? All right. Okay. Signal yet. It's okay, don't worry about. Let's get back to you were saying the win was a ten out of ten. Did. He do everything you guys wanted him to Marlin on Saturday. He owns game plan. And he always always, you know, try to give the fighter like like a clear picture of, you know, whether you know, whether simply on, and you know, where where they should you know, all they should try to win. But you know, like, you never really go onto plan, but Mars just guy they could make something special out of out of anything, you know. And and he's starting to really show that in the US starting to really have the performances they was having leaving his his career fears of fighting, you know, like he just beat three three like world class guys. And and you know, the entire fighting fine doesn't equal loudness was pretty fresh that you know, I was I was like impressed. I spoil the time. But you know, one Frankie end of the round is going to be and then he's going with someone Russian do then. And you forget just how good these guys are. And then they get out there. And I'm like, wow. Like, i'm. Thinking back just by his performance for sure. Okay. So a few questions about this. Obviously, he's the top contender at this point. What do you think was the difference though, between the I s Unseld fighting this one? I mean, yes, he won more quickly. But in terms of how good he isn't his approach. Like, what was the major difference? I mean, I think that when you're going to that you have seen and you start to fight east fight there. I think there's without about like a step up in competition. Besides maybe like one or two or three guys and in the organizations like outside of the seen. You know, like sole almost every fight. They're going to get a really really soft guy. And and once you step into the top five, man. It's like it's like you roll the dice you like everyone of these main events, you just you're so hard to keep winning. You know, like as a as a coaching staff like me, and Mark, but we go into these fights a main event, Frankie Bennett's a main. They were mom, and it's like a main eighty and it's hard to put back to back when you know. So what I think Monning has done, you know, like not necessarily doing like three main events in the world, but three five guys in the role and be able to. Win in that fashion. I think he's just more comfortable, you know, he's more rainy doing more work is not holding himself back. So I think experience you experience is the big he'd always able to go more. And and we truly be like everything he can be a fighter when I I asked you this before, but we got the connection cut off. It was just occurred to me that like Marlin is so good at so many things decision making. He's got Chris boxing. As footwork is good. He sets everything up, but he's like, a ridiculous athlete. Why don't you think he gets credit more credit? I should say for being maybe one of the best athletes in the UFC. I think that. Yeah. I agree with you one of the most guys I've ever seen some of the things that you see them on them to jam just like it's like messing around. You know, I think doesn't get the credit because Mars technically sound, you know, his defense is so good. And you know, his power has so much power..

"You were just talking about him a second ago taken on Anderson Silva, this has been a sort of a point of debate. I think on this show and other ones it's like, of course, of course, everybody has respect for Anderson Silva, truly one of the greats of the game. But the question is what of what he has left at this point out of sign. You're still in his twenties and just running through people. What do you make of this match of how competitive in the end? Do you think it will be? In order to be honest with you. I don't think it will be. I mean from watching enersen civils last few fights. He just looked very he wasn't the same. You know? I think whenever he broke his leg when he fought his shin. When he's hot Wiedeman took a lot out of them. I mean, he was out for a very long time. And he just doesn't. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know if he doesn't have that drive or that. At timing. Like, he used to have you just you just felt very very slow. And and and just didn't have that time like he used to. I've spent some time with innocence openly with Machida when they were trying to black house, California. This is before I was in the NFC for management and my brother-in-law calls Machado. Do the guys are they're black house. So it's been a few weeks up their trade with Anderson, and which was a dream come true for me, you know, meeting coming from karate kickboxing background and civil it's like, I don't listen Machida, especially with his karate background and from spine with him and seeing him then. Into see him his last few fights with this being. And who else was it? Just you can there's a difference. There is a big difference. I think is going to go out there and school. I mean, it would be cool. I think it would be very cool to see Anderson him being veteran go out there and just finish him. That would definitely put a smiley face. But I don't see that happening. Well, I know what I am going to see happen. I'm going to see you fight Anthony penance. This will be March twenty third at the Bridgestone arena main event for you have see on ESPN plus six which is weird name. But you have see fight night. One eight. I can't wait to see it. It's a it's a really weird and interesting fight. But it's got my attention. And I look forward to seeing the result. Thank you so much Steven thank you for your time. Any kind of others. "You know, he hit me in the fourth round with a right hand. He actually was a twice. But that was I think it was it was more on on my fault. You know, rushing it with my hands down than anything. Still didn't he still was kind of confused? You still really didn't have an answer. And it was still a very close fight both of them. We got the draw the first fight the second five was controversial. So I don't I don't think he's got my number. You know, my sows very hard to you know, to bring in fighters four, and and to prepare for so, you know, I think it's going to be an exciting finance, and he pedestals he's got some really good striking come from his background, his taekwondo background. So I think he's going to be fun. Now, we're folks to zoom out. They take the macro perspective. They say. I'll Anthony Pettus good striker wonderboy Thompson, good striker. But you're very different kinds of strikers, you kind of alluded to it. But in concrete terms, our audience can understand why are you different? Strikers. It. I think the way. No. He's more of a I'm more of a mover. I think more of an angler when whenever I whatever I fight whenever you seen you fight. I work a lot of angles used to my kicks a lot. I think so more variety of kicks in than than than pedestals. Yeah. He's got some crazy kicks man off. The cage was called the pet is kick. Now that he's in and w w St. Showtime. But I think I don't know. Yeah. The Showtime kid. That's right. It's Showtime kick. But I don't know, man. That's a good question. Like, it's it's kind of it's it's very difficult to break down. Because we all we have some similarities we ask differences. Well, I think he's he uses he's more well rounded like he's submitted. Some really good really good high level grapplers in the past. I mean his last fight at one. It was one fifty five he submitted a Kisa, you know, John thought was going to go the other way around. Yeah. He's submitted. And it was gonna work now guess has moved up to one seventy defeated Carlos Condit. Oh, I think that's another reason why he thinks he's gonna do well in the ones offended division because you got a lot of one fifty five or smooth up. Of course Cowboys thrown he did well as done well in my division. He's moved back down. But yeah, man, it's. I always think under better striker. I I'm definitely a better striker than Pettus. So I've got the reach on them. I'm faster than him. And I'm coming with more power and fair to say, you have just a more unique style. Now, Anthony Pez has a very unique style and take some risks. But is generally I would say some an this is going to sound crazy. But you're right in terms of that moving thing, you do that is much more rare even with that creativity that Anthony pedestal. So it's fair to say, he's probably not fought a lot of louvers like you. And again, I'm not saying you fought Pedersen's clone. That's not what I'm saying. But someone a little bit more in that tradition. Yeah. I agree and your start, but you are starting to see more of that style. And he come see I mean gonna Nelson because from karate background Conor McGregor. When he fought Josie Aldo is movement man was on point. And he uses that movement to really lured his partner in and is opponent in. That's why ended up landing that left hand. And I and I'm, you know, fight the same way Anderson Silva, the notified that way as well. And now you see in Israel donnas doing the same thing. So you're starting to see and one of the best MVP. Venom can amazing. So you're starting to see more and more of it. But a lot of these guys doing this for years. You know, they've been doing this for a very long time. So it's hard for just some Joe blow to pick it up and be able to do it out there in the octagon, you know, in in six weeks, or whatever. So, but you are seeing seeing more and more of that style. What do you make of the wills who had division today? You..

"So you're not champion out there, you know, Brian Ortega guy that they're really trying to promote them, then say, you're just, you know, meet to the wolves euro. So for me, that's what I was again, forty five days to fights. I lose twenty six and twenty eighth didn't tear. It was either you fight or that was my my contract for sports you'll fight now in twenty eight time, you're probably not going to fight again until next year. It's like that's more than four to six months. And I don't know when next year is I don't know if you're saying early next year mid next year with the end, so we're going to hold me for, you know, my my my basic contract all along gonna last me. You know, I still have to pay my Bill this up to do different things. I have the now since being adult. So it's it was a struggle. But with brave I had no what's Logan. I know and being taken care of it. Well, I have to ask one question about this just have to do my due diligence. It does sound like they cared deeply for you in. This is going to be a great deal. It is tied to the butter any government, which does have some human rights issues any concern about being in business with them. As a consequence. I'm honestly, no. Because I'm not a very political person. I don't know much about that, you know, from what I see I do talk to the shank. I do talk to Mohamed shy hidden. I do talk to everyone involved in brazen cage. But for me, that's never come into my light. That's never come into my life. I'm not saying it's not a problem. But for me, this is not what folks folks in. I'm fighting building my croon. That's just what's in front of me. And it concerns not concerns. Exactly. But like you're going to be fighting in Manila, you'll probably fighting in buffering to publicly fighting places outside of the US any concern about that. In terms of building a brand as a US entity. For me. And this is something brave is doing as well as the US markets detect, you know, everyone's really trying to get guaranteed opportunities. Very very little, but there's not many stars outside of the country. I mean, I went to Saudi Arabian, we're we're in the mall in Saudi Arabia just hanging out doing over workouts in people Reno my name before I'm even science the promotion or even publicly signed to the to the promotion. So it's it's a huge thing to finally in a sense nail. Why why can for example, Manny Pacquiao from the Philippines, be huge star in the US? But we can't be huge star for pains. So for me, it gives us a different market of. I don't want to just be known around USO want to be known around the world mainly for being a two time. I'm fro- champion. Now, Senate time Tennessee defending champion. I wanna be another champion Nefer me as a hopefully to division Bernie champion. That's around the world is global promotion. That's the market. I'm looking at. I don't know what your views were on fighter unions before have they changed as a consequence of this process. I wouldn't say they changed completely because I do believe there should be something more for fighters. The union is obviously very hard. Because fighters are expendable we come and go to our injuries constantly in. It's it's insurance wise and Bill and all that stuff. It gets extremely complicated. But I do believe fighters easily should be paid more. Because again, I thought once you know, defending trying to win another ball for Tennessee broke, my hands for my CFO, saying the fight for another six or seven months, and what happens just in case if that fight ends up backing out if that fighter ends up getting injured than I have to wait possibly a few more months. So, you know, the pay is very low for someone else's entertainment. What did you make by the way of how TJ dill show looked at one twenty five he made the cut but the fight ended a little bit early..

"I don't have an issue with it at all especially for all the havoc that it causes when you put another title in there, and he also has been on ice with this issue with the commission, and I know some people were like a five hundred thousand dollar fine. It's totally justified. These are deranged people truly it's impossible to justify this in any event. So he's a little bit bitter about that they got to find the right opportunities. So if he sits out till twenty twenty for no other reason that he doesn't wanna be there. That's different. But if is again twenty nineteen I'm okay with it next. Hot ones who was your favorite person to click on hot ones. You guys seen the show on YouTube. I love and I talked about in the last episode of the beat my. You know, what I I like DJ Cala, but he was so annoying on that show. So because he made it three wings in. And it was like I've never taken an L. It's like, not even your your blood pressure DJ. I would say Ricky Jovis next real quickly. So the Nevada commission is contemplating regulating prefight trash talk outside of this. What does the most ludicrous policy? You've heard any commission have ever come up with whether successfully implemented or otherwise when they tried to ban Nick Diaz for life for marijuana infractions. They couldn't even prove took place. Boy that commission is truly amazing people will justify anything that the powerful do. But that I found to be utterly disgraceful. And and I'm not even sure I agree with you in a white. I don't even know if that's legal to be quite candid with you. All right. Let's get to our guest. I believe he's there is he not on Skype. We're working on them. We're working on. I believe we're have Mr. shorty Torres next. I believe he has some news to share if I'm not mistaken. Bowl talk to him. Just a second that whole commission thing. I just couldn't believe people were like, yeah. You know, it makes sense to find them half a million dollars. It's only a quarter of a first, dude. These are the kinds of people who can be tricked into anything if they had taken a million. They would have justified that as well. They said well. Things could have happened, folks. If you jaywalk why is Jay walking illegal? It's illegal because it can cause a lot of problems bodily harm to the person jaywalking. It can cause traffic accidents generally is not good for law and order. No one is calling for Habib to not be punished. No one is calling for him to not suffer consequences. You can't jump out of the octagon and go after a teammates are Subbiah rivals teammate. You cannot do these kinds of things. On the other hand you have to have a proportional set of Justice..

"It's a definite high-grade holiday did. Really? Well, but if they weren't gonna make this rip the band aid off moment, I'd like to see some continued at least experimentation. Yeah. Maybe one thing broadcast just kind of figure it out, especially when they get to this situation. We're came is going to be fighting Francis. Where this the full on ESPN experience. I wanna make sure about how we get there. We've got I don't know should feel a little different. I mean, I feel like they are making changes the bell. Adding Trevor Wittman, you know, they don't want experiment too much. There is some experimentation going on the thing about the last thing about this move on. What's funny about the belt is like when I was editor in chief of bloody elbow ten years ago. I remember that we would do occasional refreshes on the front, and I would get I would be privy to the refresh from the tech designers. Designing it. Here's what we're putting this here. And here's what we're putting us here. I'd be like do they are gonna. I love this. And then we'd roll out the refresh and every comment what are you doing you morons? You've ruin the experience. So I can't tell if I don't like the belt or if I'm just now when those people who doesn't like the fresh changes heart changes changes, very hard. I the changes downgrade. That's that's why we don't like it. It's really it's just a silly rejigging of your hard wiring of convenience, and what people don't like it. So I'm going to say, generally, we're going to give the ESPN and you'll see I run pretty high marks a lot. It was a home run stand standup. Triple very very good, which brings us to the other side of things I'm going to do which for the boys in the back. We'll put her even Connor just in a minute. But let's talk about bills or to fourteen I wanna get to the meat of the show here. It is this weekend. It is going to be in Inglewood, California at the form, which is where John Jones last kind of interesting. Where teams last fall? That's right. That's right. Here's the funny thing about this. Chuck see two thirty three was supposed to take place. That's right. That's right. Here's a. Anything about it, man. They looked out at first right because it was going to three was going to be down the wrong. Market they market and then fell apart. And then Scott Coker who apparently used new habits to sub tweet which has been. It's kind of interesting so they lucked out. But then they lost their main event. I gotta be honest. What do you think would be better for them to have the main event back while the UC's competing or this scenario, and I like the scenario, honestly, I I like, you know, the card itself kind of has it has a vintage Coker feel which is it's got some novelty to it. It's a prospect to it. And it's got the legend Hurrell, it's got it's got the fate orga-. You know, if you go back to the strikeforce as there was a lot of cars of structured like this. It strikes me as enter two thousand nineteen one of those types of cards, and I love the fact that he sub tween, you know, back in the day ten years ago. It was it was wouldn't doom beat a millionaire who was who sub tweeden who was doing the smiley face from Dana white now, you get kind of a reverse. It's funny a decade later. It's funny. And you and you see, you know, you see Coker taking his shots to me. That's this is this is part of what? Fun. And this is a rare moment for Bill toward shine. Because there was supposed to be you'll see event with this basically chased at a town for a number of reasons but bell towards presence being one of them..

"Face the pain to start off say, well, yeah, I think this is whenever you get a big change. This is a great opportunity change things around. So I I don't this like the current the way the UC's doing things now. But I think it would have been a great opportunity changed things. Maybe the graphics package would have been nice just so just refresh. Maybe there's a gradual unveil that their thing. But you think about just even the belt changing and how much of criticism that drew just from an aesthetic standpoint. You're like, I think sometimes when you if you're just going to do something, maybe you do Rippin the band aid. They here's our new platform or maybe you gradually do that. But I don't know what their intention is. But maybe we will see things as we go along here kid or two worlds because you're you bring the guy like, you know, Stephen Smith who, you know, somebody that's not used to watching this in other sports, go. Okay. I recognize that guy and we'll stick around for the broadcast right because it's somewhat familiar. We also gotta carry cater to the defense. I've been watching for forever. They don't want. The you have see that. They're accustomed to watching to be something completely. Different have a completely different experience. So it is a weird step. But I assume and I hope this is the case that throughout this partnership. They're gonna keep me changes. Here's the thing. It's like you brought in Trevor Wittman he was such a great addition was, but they think we talked about this on the Monday show. They haven't quite figured out how to bring them in. But they at least made that call having all the same production elements swapping the logo felt a little bit. I don't wanna call lazy 'cause they they went all out to promote this. But I don't know if nerdy here would you like them to go as far as maybe having like red octagon walls because it's the SPN era where remember you have C two hundred. There was the yellow Vesa go a different they kind of they did from Greg. I'm sure it was expensive. But you know, the kind of lighting they didn't octagon, Matt. I don't know some something like another twist. Here's what I will say no one's really talking about him in. They made the ratings that we talked about the television ratings robs the ended up being at the end of Sironi. But overall, you got to feel like I don't know that might be one of the more talked about flyweight fights. I can remember ever like think about it. Even when Dmitry is out there beating some of the more interesting guys. I don't remember having this kind of my car, and then the and then the controversy of the main event, I know it's cold comfort for T J dillashaw thinks been pretty good for the event. Like, it's everything expected about who having starpower, and then dillashaw kind of bring that up. We talked about this. And I think played out perfectly in that sense. I'll give them all been credit. They made a flyway fight bus. Biggest gonna be they promoted that However, I remember just going because I don't have cable right, but just going on YouTube like it was smell just going on YouTube. I could see like on the home screen those, you know, promotions about eight all over social media. So they did a pretty good job to reaching out. These also worth mentioning, you know, you had one have event in January this happen. Sometimes when you have one event and a month, you know, they will look, I don't even think it's a b plus a minus scenario..

I'll good dude job this week with the coverage. She did folks are no that was Danny's work. Learn a little hard lesson about white balance. But other than that. I did I did I learned a lot man. But folks, don't I don't even get into it. But for folks don't know trust me when I tell you that that you could not have asked for more from him. And he did a great job. I thought. Yeah. I mean one man army, but got the job done. Yeah. Over up pretty pretty happy with the coverage. We provided this weekend. Good job loss. One the pre and post by show. Yeah. I did. Do a good job. Didn't I? Yeah. All right. We don't have a moment to ways. How were I didn't even ask you about this? How were the calls? The calls were Goodman there were there were good. All right. Not as good as before not as good as before. But nonetheless, still pretty all right? All right. I think it's the cold, man. Slowing people down, you know, it's a holiday today. We're out here. Thugging it through. I we out here grinding, let me know. All right. Let's get started. What was the first show on ESPN? So I was I was very busy working in the back. But I know you had the broadcast up. So I'm curious to get your thoughts on the ruckus. That'd be. Hey, locate any big fan of the show. This is Mike calling from dear phobe, Florida. I just wanted to ask what do you give you know, the first show on ESPN overall grade base off the flow based off of you know, performances commentating, I truly like Trevor Wittman being added as the coach factor. I liked that enjoyed that. You know, kind of had a paper pay per view esque feel mix it a little bit of old FOX, Tennessee. What they did they would just flopping onto name production does well, but I kinda expect it a little bit more. I did like the intro. I kind of wish they would lean more towards that fact flow. But I just wanted to ask overall. What did you give you have see Brooklyn grade? I appreciate you guys. Thank you again, all love from south Florida Ryan of south Florida representatives at the south floor. There's nothing else to do. But call the show. So I appreciate that. There's the beach. How cold is good food on? What is the will? Also, my parents are like oh, th they like when he gets so cold, and I'm like, it's sixty six that's like literally like sixty degrees more with one tenth the temperature here. Yeah. Okay. What did I give? I would give it a pretty high grade. I've made this point on the post fight show, Danny which was they learned a lot from that. I talk show where they had the one fight in quickly Q matches. They done the one fight this time. It would have been half the length of J D S versus Kane one. It didn't want it that they had a much better presentation. It a really I thought a pretty good card to be honest with you. So people were bellyaching about. It I liked it. But here's what I think..
