"Of how he was coaching college. And what we're seeing in the pros he's gonna be quicker. Check the football down like there's a same go broke taken a prophet like there's a reason why guys like that have success. And there's a reason why guys that are forcing the ball down. The field in the small windows often find themselves getting into trouble so yeah agree. That assessment is is fair and i think that's part of what especially with that wilson. We've got a coach out of them and you've got to coach that out of many players when they come into the league especially when they're really physically talented to be able to to know that. Hey now's not the time to try to do that. Trevor lawrence as an example week one. I think like just outside two minutes. He's backed up and he tries to force in in cut. That's eighteen yards down the field when there isn't anybody within seven yards of his back. That's right underneath it. Those are types of things that lose football games and have people evaluate quarterbacks and save. They're struggling and right now. Mac.

"Through two weeks in your mom up to say maggie jones right now first of all these. He's one of the healthiest ones and He hasn't been knocked around a lot. Like zach wilson has like Trevor lawrence has and Trae lance just hasn't played played much Justin feels got a chance to play a little bit last week. And you saw you know where he is. He's still a rookie and he's probably not ready to start yet. So i'd have to say mack jones right now. We look at rookie. Quarterback's worn what sets them up for success. Is it the circumstances that surrounded with or is it just. They're pure ability. It's a little bit of both. But i think it's more of the circumstances that surround them. I think all those guys are talented. There's no question about it. They wouldn't have gotten drafted that high You look at trevor lawrence lawrenceville number one overall pick and zach wilson but they went to bad football teams. And when you go to a bad football team You're not gonna have a whole lot of success right away because you can't overcome all the things that you don't have. And the and the teams were the quarterbacks or go to teams that have more of a Supporting cast around a more of an infrastructure like mag. Jones has in new england. I think you're gonna see them. Have more success because everything is input on his shoulders You know he's got a really good defense over there at one one of the better ones in the league. Probably a top ten defense on that side of the football He's got a really good running game and a really good offensive line to help protect him and then he's got a infrastructure of coaching staff that has a tremendous amount of experience. That knows the game inside out. So he's got to start off with so now he has to go in there and and do his job and not have to worry about carrying the football team. Where zach wilson and trevor lawrence. Those guys are going to have to throw the ball every week. you know. Twenty five thirty five forty times a game just to stay in contention or they're going to be behind a lot and they're gonna take more punishment because they're going to be behind a lot of football games so Maximum better situation trae lances in a better position and so is Justin field because you know chicago has They have a pretty good football team. Not as good as new england. I think right now but they can play defense They can run the ball at times but their offensive line is very good right now off. Famer warren moon joins us this more. No keyshawn j. will imacs or the new york jets. Doing zach wilson a disservice by not having veteran quarterback presence in the room with him to teach him to teach him how to be a pro. You know to be a real pro opposed to on the job learning. Yeah i think it would help him to have a veteran in the room because he is like i said. Ultra talented He probably is smart enough. Knows the offense but again there's little things like last week you saw throwing the ball up for grabs and things like that. I think a veteran could teach him those types of things He could be his eyes and ears on the sideline able to talk to him when he comes off the field. A settling influence for them. So yeah. I think it would help him a lot. If if he if he did have a veteran influence around there but that's the decision that they've made and and they're going to have to go with it right now. It's still not too late. You can always bring in a veteran but Then he'd have he'd have to have the learning curve to eat up to learn the offense and all the different things go along with with being able to give him the right advice and you can't do that until he knows the offense. Warren i actually having weapons. Offensively is a major thing. But besides to weapons of m anderson or christian mccaffrey. What have you seen from. Sam darnold thus far with the panthers that has really kind of built into his success studies thus far he just seems to be more grounded and more confident When he was with the jets he just seemed jittery to me. Every time i saw him play his feet moving Hit those happy feet. That you're a lot of young quarterbacks. And just a lot of quarterbacks in general. That aren't comfortable have i don't see that In carolina i see a guy. That's really confident in what he's doing. I think joe brady. Their offense play. Collar does a great job of calling plays that he does well Within that offense they get him on the move and outside the pocket and then of course he's got you know better weapons than he had in new york that that makes his job a little bit easier. All he has to do now is a distributor. He doesn't have to worry about making all these great throws or trying to avoid rush because he's not getting the protection that you need that type of thing. I want play a game with the league has expanded. And you are the owner of a new franchise in nfl. And you get a chance to start your your own team with a quarterback with anybody in the league factor in age factor in arm throwing strength factor in whatever you want the one person you can't pick from the starting quarterback position is patrick mahomes. Who are you taking this. Start your franchise and why well. I can't pick pat mahomes. Yep can't pick patrick mahomes. Well i'm probably gonna go with josh allen Just you know. A lot of people would probably say tom brady because he's still playing a very high high radio. You look at aaron rodgers as well but at some point in the next year or two one of these guys are gonna be you know going out of the league so you don't wanna not have one of these guys after two or three years so i'm gonna go with the younger guy. Who has the upside. I think josh allen. His upside has been really good last two years. He's really improved a lot. He was an mvp candidate last year. I think he was second in the voting. And i think he's only going to continue to keep getting better. So i i'd have to go with josh allen right now not not just in herbert. We're lamar jackson. They're all great wins. I mean i could go dak prescott. I could go deshaun watson. there's a lot of guys it that That i would go with. But i think Josh allen because He's a big strong guy. I think he he. He has all the elements that you need to shawn watson. If he was in a better situation right now. I think he would be the guy that i would probably go with because He had a tremendous year last year. And he's had a tremendous career so far but we just don't know it still uncertain about his career right now so i'm going with a guy that's playing well right now it's It's had a good year at a last couple of good years. And i think. I'm gonna go with josh allen right now to hall of famer. Warren moon on keyshawn jail. Max warren. i mean pollock is in advance. Because every time i talk to you on the radio i bring up at least one of two topics. Tom brady. 'cause he's you were before. Tom brady greatest old quarterback ever right. And and i bring up a race in the nfl because you experience that in such a way where you should switch positions and you're forced to play in the.

"We're back on up. Our quarterback tim hasselbeck is handing out rookie report cards today. Let's start with zach wilson. Tim what grade would you give. Zach wilson so far this season grenade can still be friends after this. I'm giving him a c. Minus maybe maybe he probably deserved. plus i'm giving messy minus though doesn't protect the football well enough for them to be as competitive as i think they should be. I think there's just been too. Many opportunities been careless with the football. And i think that's probably where. I'd seen the biggest area where he needs to improve. That's fair but we'll come back to it. How about trevor lawrence but grade we give him. Yeah i'm given him ac- that might be a little bit low. Be there have been moments where you see before. Have throw down the field where you're like. Wow he looks really really good. That being said there are some other moments where just understanding the situation of the game right before the half. When forces the football turnover leads to point. Those kinds of things are what you want to get rid of. That's why and then mack jones. How about him. I'm give him a name minus in probably could in a. But i think the biggest issue for.

"Join us on the goodyear hotline. We were asking on the dr pepper. Call in line outside of mahomes. Which quarterback are you starting a franchise with a cuyler. Murray key took lamar jackson. I took justin. Herbert outside of mahomes took josh allen or anyone else one former. Nfl quarterback on another network said that he would take wave mack jones if he was redoing. The twenty twenty one. We're doing this already. Rory redress twenty twenty. Twenty one's already ancient history. I need another in this microwave culture of ours. She's well the mac. Jones has so far. Been the best of the rookie. Quarterback's he's thrown a touchdown a win. Why has this class key. Gotten off to such poor start when we raved about them all season. Well you got to poor teams right to start with the first two guys. That were selected in zach wilson here in new york and trevor lawrence in jacksonville. So you already know what that is that. They're not into a situation where they're going to be successful in succeed this year. Then you talk about trae. Lance hasn't gotten on the field much because of jimmy garoppolo. But when he's gotten on the field he's been successful but the plan is to move him into the spot at some point in time same thing in chicago with justin feels in andy now. We'll probably see justin feels this weekend. Become the starting quarterback chicago bears so then you moved to mack jones. Where would you have taken justin fields. I would have probably taken him. I probably would have taken him. If it was me i could have gone. I could have gone anywhere any of any of this. I are gonna take you first. Second trae lands third third anywhere any. Oh interesting your quarterback interesting is of the mobile guys because mac jones wasn't mobile. Justin fields came out with trevor. Lawrence at high school is one and one a. and he wound up going forth. Yeah but that's all whatever i mean they. Everybody got their own reasonings for war. The why they select who they select when they select them but he would be where years top four or five quarterback depending on what we wanted to do in our system things of that nature. There is not a this this whole notion that trevor lawrence is over here and everybody else over there they. They've been selling that since. Trevor morris was a freshman in an extra championship game so the momentum carried him along with his play to being selected as the number one overall pick because the jacksonville jaguars in urban meyer was already convinced. But i also think they like to play it safe so he checks every box. He's real tall. He's fast wilson but no. He's he's tall. He's gotta be trevor. They're all tall. Though they all share all senior saying they all check the six to plus bar. Except zach wilson. When you get the mac jones he is in a position to succeed because of the surrounding circumstances that he's in. He's in a veteran team. Would a veteran head coach a veteran office coordinator veteran wide receivers. Now okay a defense. That's intact and with a coach that knows what the hell he's doing. That's not going to put him in harm's way. If trevor lawrence was to fall to the new england patriots the saying he he would be doing the same exact thing for new england. Maybe a little more same. Exactly be a little more it could. That'd be doing the same thing. You can't do more with several arts and with the same thing because the philosophy is to wrap our arms around our young quarterback and protecting if zach wilson was in new england. They'd wrap their arms around their protecting if just to fills in new england raptor arms around protecting trae lands. Dorms or and protective. That's aw thank you think people will have to press pause. Unbelieving all the hype. And i'm not saying major portions of it aren't warranted key because you received a lot of hype coming out of school. But like especially for quarterbacks like just press pause and all the stories that get built up before the draft all the crazy thing. This guy is going to be a savior to your organization. Not many people can come into situations like jacksonville or chicago. And just be the guy right away and just save everybody saver. That's unrealistic. Well it sounds like the paradigm. Is you're flipping upside down key. And his jay said you're not saying the quarterback is the savior for the franchise but the franchise is a savior for the quarterback. In a way right like the franchise can make the quarterback most guys some guys like mahomes gonna be great wherever he goes. Aaron rodgers wherever he goes most is but honestly know about that. I don't know that. Not saying i'm not saying they wouldn't be better better situations i'm saying to me. It's pretty obvious at a certain talent level. You're gonna be productive even in a bad situation you're going to elevate we'll maximum tell you something. No man. tim couch was good. it was in cleveland. He was a good que- rogers. Max when he came out there was no air rogers so he was what everything else before him was. This is every single year. I don't give a damn if his blake bortles blaine gabbert or any of these dudes that are taken in the first round. They're gonna always say oh. This guy's he's like this a can't miss prospect but then three or four years later when they don't have any success all those same people they go hide in the closet and you don't ask any my rookie year triangle right so irish nine points my rookie year people like. Oh you're a bus. You didn't do your thing. The ball was never in my damn hands and the games where we just ran spread and pick and rolls hours twenty three points per game. Imagine he's ran at every single game right you'd have coaching and system has a lot to do with the players accessories. I probably average fourteen. You got a lot of rebounds. Yeah no pick and rolls okay. So i would say. There are some there outliers. The vast majority fall in the middle or situation dependent. There's some outliers who are going to be terrible almost no matter what a great almost no matter what but vast majority fall somewhere in the middle and the spectrum the middle but key it seems like you are saying it is the the franchise that savior of the quarterback and vice versa franchises wind up in such bad situations. That they're drafting so high up in the first place 'cause they're bad franchising turnover rate turnover. They can't keep stability and sustain anything because the coach 'cause the owners and general managers either get impatient or they don't know what the hell they're doing in. They need to stay out of the day. The franchises that our savior's for the quarterbacks or the ones even if they're drafting pie there's a reason for it. Their quarterback just retired or got a little older or something like that. Yeah okay so let me think of. I'm trying to think of the top of my head. Just bad franchises. That can't seem to just get it right at that position. What would that be well. The jets okay. Let's say the jets right but they did get it right. They got it right when they got accenture is the problem is they never helped him evolve so then when they stale where rex numa just playing defense and trying to do the same thing when they took the keys a haircuts off of him. He wasn't ready. They never really had in my opinion competent off. It's a coordinator because rex is a defensive line coach. All he cares about his defense. I don't care about the offense. I care about the defense. And so what happens is you. They wind up not paying attention to really what the offense is doing because they believe my defense no matter what is going to carry them hoes to. We mentioned dak prescott. Tom brady russell wilson early in their careers. They were capable of doing certain things and they were the defense carried team in as they evolved team expand russell. Wilson didn't get drafted by the seattle seahawks and went to the new orleans sooner. That wouldn't be good to tune. Detroit if he went to detroit. Russell wilson would be back in wisconsin somewhere coaching right now. Because they're never going to set him up for the success that pete carroll in that defense set him up for it until they can take the training wheels off and then once they decided to take the training off. He came a little bit better at this a little bit better at that than he got now. All of a sudden six years in is like this thing is completely slowed down. I'm good to go early. Tom brady same thing in new england that they're doing with mack jones. There's no there's zero difference except that defense was better than this defense is so tom brady did just enough to win. Those couple super bowls and individually as he got into his fifth and sixth year. They slowly started handed him the keys to the car and then he became tom brady. "Not having a great year this year so far little sophomore slump so far but what he did as a rookie behind a bad offensive line with a bad head coach. I mean was ridiculous. Not even know he's gonna start to the last second he was. I think herber has a chance to join mahomes and rogers in a special kind of category and then on top of that. Here's the kicker even though he's only a year younger than lamar march twenty four twenty three like mars ridiculous but he only has one year in so you got that rookie deal for years. More lamar's better get paid. Justin herbert you can build around and don't even have to pay him for a minute. I'm taking herbert the knock on On or the the reason why. I think it is impressive. Because he has the arm talent to do just about anything that you want to do and he seems to be smart enough to do so. I don't think he's having like a down year like statistically he hasn't started out well but you watch those games touchdowns back he's still seem special when you licensed murray thing like i'm i'm with key in that i don't love the air aid but do you watch carla. Murray play he not playing he planned air raid a little bit but the best place that they make is being kala murray and he's special trump moving around but but i will say. Is you know plan defense. That moving around. You're not gonna be able to do that on a consistent basis when the time when it matters most. Yes we like it because it looks cool to us and but when you've gone up against hindus on edges coming off the edges and coming to get you hunt you down you put yourself in. Harm's way plan reckless. The does the same thing no hasn't been hurt. What's his name. What's different paerson. The comparison for colin murray is more patrick mahomes and that he's scrambling around to throw jackson. I think we get enamored all the way back to college with his big running plays and think of him as a scrambling quarterback lamar jackson is a pocket passer. Who can run if you watch him play. So many of his big runs on designed runs when they call dropback pass lamar sensitive pocket android throws long longer than he should in. My opinion is like hey get out there. And get moving but lamar. You don't see the same type of homes like plays or kyla murray like plays for lamar because he sits in a pocket liking tamara. Did he stands tall in the pocket when he when he's running like you say fox is design runs. Yeah it's not broken plays. He's able to move around and extend the play even the jump has he stood for the longest in decided at the last. Second i'm a fake running. Oh hollywood openly jumping throw it. Yeah i mean that's just. I'll say this about herbert real quick. If trevor lawrence in year three has a year that herbert had last year's rookie we'd be. Oh he's fulfilling his potential. That's lamar jackson. Not only can pass the ball and everything as a runner with the football. Who in the history of the modern. Nfl is more valuable when they're running the ball. Lamar jackson and he's a quarterback it's insane. Well he's a quarterback but he says he's a running back. He's in everything that's what he said. Now baffour running back for that. Especially all right. Kishan andrzej will amax presented by progressive insurance guests. Join us on the goodyear hotline and dominique. Mac Jones, Justin Fields Jerseys Among Most Popular in Final Weeks Before Season
"Polly has jersey sales in the nfl. You wanna play the best jersey sales in the nfl since august first game. Okay there's five jerseys that have been sold the most in the nfl since august. I can you name any of them. Trevor lawrence nell liar. Nope he was big in april. May june okay. One is dak prescott. No liar some. Don't make sense because you'd think they have the jersey already. Tom brady tom. Brady's third over raid mahomes. his fifth mahomes is fifth. Okay all right. A couple newish quarterbacks new quarterbacks baker mayfield junior the third justin fields is fourth answers sales. Andy dalton is not in the there. Okay number one. Josh allen who makes a lot of sense and number two this guy is surprising starter. A surprising starter. Teddy bridgewater two weeks ago. It would've been a surprising starter now. Everyone says oh. I saw that coming. Mac joe mack jones.
Some Jaguars Players 'Aren't Thrilled' With Urban Meyer, NFL Analyst Says
"How some of the players are sick of urban Meyer. We've already heard the stories about how urban Meyer thinks he's back at Ohio State. He thinks he's back at Florida. He's trying to remind the players. Hey, you need to hydrate. I don't know. Maybe he'll tell them, uh, you know, maybe wash your hands when you finish using the restroom. Maybe that's going to come next. Maybe he'll tell them Cover your mouth your nose when you sneeze. I don't know. We have people in 2021 who just think germs don't spread, but that's besides the point. The fact is, the Jaguars are trash. Hopefully, Trevor Lawrence can help dig them out before urban Meyer decides the bail. You

"We'll go back to joy. Let's talk about trevor lynch. Living up to the hype will he live. Up to the hype. Let's start which great this is. Tough questions like this. Because we haven't seen anything that suggests that trevor lawrence is going to live up to the hype this year and it shouldn't be anything that suggests like it's it's hard to be as touted as highly recruited in high school and sought after even as a collegiate player and then enter into the national football league. You obviously aren't going to be in a great situation. He has a ways to go in. It's shown like there's some great things we're gonna see flashes but as far as living up to the hype and. I don't think he's able to do that coming out the gate now eventually. Will he possibly. That's to be seen but right now where it stands with the personnel with everything that he has a a supporting cast right now today. No he can't live up to that. Trevor lawrence type of savior in. No neither should he because it is a team sport. You can't come into the national football league as a quarterback. I don't care how great you are. If you don't have the supporting cast around you and just elevate that team and save that franchise eventually. Can't he get there yes. Possibly we will see but right now. No it's too. It's too much hype. It's too hard to do that. He'll live up by but temporarily definitely not but that shouldn't be shocking to anybody because the reason he because they're terrible that's how they got picking first place. So what are we talking about here. This is all this overreaction. About like a little high. He's not the corp i i don't agree with not naming him the quarterback first of all. I am adamantly against the idea that there is a quarterback competition between gardner minhsiu and trevor lawrence. A player that we were talking about after his freshman year as possibly being able to play in the nfl..

"There's only so many things you can control and you want to have good people in place you put your procedures in place to take care of issues and problems and to be honest. I can't even anticipate was next. I mean between name. His transfer portal the allston case. All the different things going on in college football Cova didn't i mean we just don't know vaccinations that's been all we've talked about for the last three months trying to really educate our players and grow those guys being a coach right now managing. So how do you balance that. you'd do. You have to set aside all right these four hours. I'm watching film. I mean how do you work football in all my coaches work football and i still like to be a part of it. And i i want our coaches to be innovators. I want to be creative. They meet with other stabs they visit with. nfl staff. they watch what the best teams are doing. The team that gets the most snacks or the most explosive passes over fifteen yards. We're going to watch those teams and trying to figure out if we take something they're doing but that's not necessarily my role you know my roles to oversee what kids are doing and recruiting in top down management. But i won't empower those guys that they embrace being there. Dan landings got a great personality and a great future. I want him to feel that coach. Muffins been a head coach. He's been successful. I want him to feel comfortable. One of the things that you have to manage is lane kiffin twitter. How you react. Why would i manage your on it. How do you react when he posts the great fathers day post with sabin on father's well i'll i'll give this. He didn't post that Unwarranted i mean we have a legendary side through that goes on between lane and also. He sent out on the side long before he posted it on twitter. So i know he does it for reaction in for entertainment. And we spent several years together there at at alabama and. That's that's another one of his ways of taking a shot back because you know he used to get weapons when we were there. I didn't get the same weapons he got so he's getting his. He's trying to get his his jabs back expound upon that though the camaraderie between all you guys that came up in that tree what is that. Camaraderie is pretty cool. I mean i've got camp staff now and Jimbo of course was there. I was just talking to jacob pastor about the staff in four at lsu's incredible All these coaches that were there together at the same time and And we learned a lot. You learned a lot from nick and He was he was a good developer of coaches very similar to the way he develops players. And i don't think people give you enough credit for that. Because he takes guys in know he he talks to the group. He's trying to get everybody better. He's not just trying to educate himself. He's not keeping secrets and we all kind of grew up with him and some guys what they're for reform his guys what there for growth and to each his own town. But it's hard i think for and this is. This is nothing new. I mean should jordan and bear bryant. Got along yeah. I think it's hard for people to understand that. I don't even talk to my family members because they want to so and so at school but you know different you someone laying. I'll time with a lotta guys. Yeah because we we share a lot of the same stressors the same the same issues and problems so to talk to somebody about that. It's not a secret. It's no secrets out there. How can we better. How can we get more guys vaccinated and you cut up with each other because we have a lot of the same problems and dilemmas with our players so with lane. It's always it's always entertaining. You never know what you're going to get. You mentioned vaccinations a couple of times. So i was in omaha. And i was i was there when. Nc state got pulled off the field. And i've talked to a dis and coaches. About what i call the. Nc state effect. Yeah dell's pretty raw. It had happened in other championships. But this is in almost july right. How much does that moment factor into or just all of these stories factor into your approach to all these teams approached in the conferences approach to vaccinations this fall. Wouldn't you think when they pulled. Nc state the field that every scc football team would have gone from fifty percent to one hundred percent. They didn't have that because the people that are not getting vaccinated. That's not moving the needle for they don't see it that way. They don't say that way. It's it's a belief whether it be political or not political or it be something from their home. I've run into a little bit of everything. What we tried to do is arm with education ron. Corson staff has incredible i tale. How many kids have said well. Well i had. I had had covert so i've already got antibodies. I don't need to get you have to devote all the myths that are out there and it's tough to overcome in a country that is probably more divided than it needs to be. It becomes a political issue and it shouldn't be it should be what's right for the country. What if in fact it it makes you better gives you a better success. Then you should do. It's a competitive advantage for football team so selfishly dang right i want my team vaccinated because i don't want to have the the that bump in the road but the nc state needle didn't move it like you thought we might have in other sports but it didn't work that way and football. We had to keep pushing through. When the policy is the policy of insurance show omaha vaccinated. Got tested wants to me. It's just a less of a hassle right. Yeah you would think that's the nfl teams. They have to go in and test every day with vaccinated. You don't that's the reward. You don't have to test every day you know and we're hoping that the of our guys at a really good spot but i'm i don't want to arrest them relaxes they were here. We are because that one in that in that in the last fourteen percent that are that might be the one that costs you beginning. What comes and i know you probably discussed this before but every single year when we're here when you guys take the field in september. There's an expectation of georgia football and that is because of the talent you have. It's because of the tradition that you have all of those things right there. Make the sec. Great and your institution great. What is the weight when you come here. And every one of us is saying georgia's the team to beat. What is that weight was not a great way. Because if you didn't say that. I wouldn't be the head coach at georgia. I'm just gonna be honest with you. The expectation wasn't that we were going to win the east and we were going to play for the sec championship. Win the sec. And get in the final four. I'll be the head coach here. You know what i mean. Wouldn't.
"trevor lawrence" Discussed on Marty Smith's America The Podcast
"It is always wonderful. Here on marty's miss america when we get to welcome legends to the house and that is what we have today our guest on episode one hundred and something is my brother. Jeff darlington which got on right. Jeff darlington who's next 'cause 'cause this must not be. This must be the opening actor. Absolute legend those view who might not have seen it. Jeff had the first sit down interview. Trevor lawrence as a professional quarterback this week and i just wanted to drag him off the airplane he just got home but he's kind enough to give us a couple of minutes. Because i love. Trevor lawrence covered him extensively as a collegian and would love to just just break down. What you learned in this interview and what people who see it or might not see will learn from it. I did it now mardi. It's like i feel like you. Pass the torch from me when we talked the other day about. Trevor like Like handing him over to me and and get it. You know Everything that. I had heard everything you told me. When he walks in the room the way i explained. Amy paulson who's the pr person for the jaguars. After was was yeah tremendous. And and i told her that in urban meyer was asked the same thing. there are certain people who walk into a room and a refreshing in their persona. The way they speak how kind they are. How polite but in that same sense they have this sort of big aura about them that you feel like you still have to respect so while that person's being friendly to you you you you still feel the need to be like you still deserve my respect and professionalism here because you just feel that and and trevor i'm telling you man like he's got that like you feel his presence when he walks in the room you absolutely do and he so wise beyond his years. Yeah not only as a player i mean. He's of extremely physically gifted player. Many people will tell you based on his his path that he's a generational player. Obviously we'll wait to see what happens right at the top level. I have extremely high expectations. As i'm sure you do too. And certainly everyone in jacksonville. That's wise the the number one pick but as a human being. He has a kindness and he has a perspective and is not beholden to all the bs outside all the all the peripheral noise that so many young people are immersed within harm percent right. And you feel it to your point. So what did you ask him that. That what i answer surprise you or stood out the most. Well the i thought the most When you walk away from an interview in your life just in your head like then that was unexpected and really cool It wasn't necessarily even about him as much as it was about. His relationship with peyton manning and And how that's sort of been fostered and developed over the last year and he said that he's spoken to paint a lot this summer and that they have even gone over His day to day scheduled together where peyton and him have compared notes daily notes. Trevor said okay. So you do this on monday. What do you do on tuesday. What do you on wednesday. What do you do on thursday and I thought that was interesting and actually kind of revealing in the sense that like while we talk about this this persona and i know he got a lot it too much attention on him for what was actually very good. Sports illustrated article that discussed now. You know football isn't everything and people ran with that. He made it out that he doesn't care like this dude. Very clearly cares bob It's nuanced that requires wants to understand the mentality but also the pursuit of greatness within football. And i thought that his discussions that he's had with peyton illustrated perfectly. He's got that little tick in his brain. And amy said this to after we were talking about it like he remembers What he's supposed to be doing when as he tries to get ready for the nfl. She said she's okay with me sharing this but she said like about his his schedule even during the week like she said okay you gotta do this. And he said well wait. I thought you said that was on wednesdays very politely but i thought you said that was wednesdays. And she said well. The game is monday this week. So it's forward today and he's got it but like he's he's already that particular while also being incredibly the vibe that you get around him is that he's this laid back you know cool energy but there's something in there that also is is. What makes him different. I think it's really cool for him. That that payton has taken that mentor ship. Because anybody that knows anything about trevor knows. The payton's is hero payton's who he modeled every single aspect of his game around. Is that right. Where's number sixteen. Payton was number sixteen at the university of tennessee before he wore eighteen in the at the pro level but i admire treasure so much and have You know it's it's the there's so much that comes with being the anointed one And that's what he's been since he was in eighth grade in carterville georgia. This is the guy that's going to be. He's gonna go to power five. Powerhouse is going to win national championships. He's going to win the heisman. It'd be the number one pick. He's gonna win super bowls like that's been the narrative on him since he was eleven years old twelve years old and that so much to carry and i remember asking him at the breast jeff. I had this crazy crazy moment. You know they're gonna come out to us after he gets picked. And i'm having this. You've done this a million times there. Is this back and forth in your own mind. Okay you get two questions Obvious one is. What is this moment. how does it feel. Yeah yeah number. Two is the important one. That's the one that leaves the mark. And i thought is it. What should the people jacksonville florida expect. Or what are the people of jacksonville florida. Getting with you. And i mean all the way up until the question came off my debated it and i thought you know what hell no. This is what i wanna know. What is the weight of being the anointed. Yup it's really heavy at times..
New York Knicks' Nerlens Noel Sues Rich Paul
"Apparently nerlens. Noel is suing rich paul rich. Paul of course is the famed agent of lebron james. Ben simmons anthony edwards go on and on download a lot of marquee clients but one of his clients at one point was nerlens. Noel and nerlens left his agent neuro. Lawrence, Minshew Still Battling to Be Jacksonville Jaguars' Starting QB
"You to believe that there is an open quarterback competition between his top draft pick Trevor Lawrence and Gardner Minshew. There are dumb ideas, and then there's that sure smells like some college Bs, doesn't it? The kind of thing that might fly in Gainesville but not Jacksonville. You try that in the NFL, and it just sounds and feels amateurish. Jim Rome,
2021 NBA Draft Preview With Mike Schmitz
"Really wanted to get answer is nice enough to fit us in mike schmitz who does nba draft analysis for us. Here at espn mike. Thanks for taking the time man. I know you're super busy. Yeah no problem. I actually in on my way to new york here for the draft so We're we're getting closer all right. Yeah no kidding. Perfect timing so we got you in route just in the next couple of days. I mean obviously every year is different. But how how much you think things will change in the first round between now and the actual draft. Yeah i think that teams for the most part you know. I've kind of their big boards set to some degree. But you know the biggest thing. I think that can change things as traits honestly And you know that's where from a betting perspective you know you're you're locked in on you know your your lock the draft or whatever it is your can't miss batman some team moves into the top ten and you know That kind of throws everything a for loop. So that's that's the only thing. I think That can really change things but you know other than that. I have a pretty good sense that you know the way we see things in the top ten or so Feels solid but again. It's it's always fluid. We've got more than forty eight hours to go here. Great so let's talk about just the first pick because you know the the betting odds are we saw a trevor lawrence at the jets. Pretty pretty extreme. But you know the pistons is whether it be doing their due diligence or whatnot. They've tried out a bunch of guys. How solid we with cunningham because there are reports of trade at least interest from other teams now not necessarily detroit but teams wanting to go up. Yeah i think pretty solid you know. I i think vegas has this one right You know i think cunningham will ultimately be the guy and you know even if it is like you know. Say detroit in this. I better say detroit. Is you know more interested in having moberly or jalen green and they wanna swap with houston houston to cunningham at number one i think ultimately cunningham is gonna go number one regardless. I feel like ninety nine percent. Pretty confident about that I think the league feels the same way but you know detroit doing their due diligence. I don't think it's more than that. We saw that basically a few
QB Trevor Lawrence Signs $36.8 Million Rookie Contract With Jacksonville Jaguars
"Officially at Jacksonville, Jaguar, the top pick in this year's NFL draft, signing a $36.8 million contract today, including a $24.1 million signing bonus. The Clemson star expected to be the team starter this upcoming season. With Florida's news. I will all talk
Receivers to Target in the Late Rounds of your Dynasty Rookie Draft - burst 05
"Was drafted another god. I'm fairly high on From clemson at cal. I'll let you discuss him. I think about what rogers. I'm not nearly as high on rogers as they consis I think a lot of people saw him when he went to green bay. I think everybody's been so ready for the green bay packers to have another wide receiver inserted in the draft. You know and we're just intimidating in anticipating but you know. I really don't think amari rogers profiles is the number two wide receiver in the fact. That rogers is a situation is so up in the air to say the the to say the least you know. I am not projecting broader. You're gonna be there long term and if that's the case you know is jordan love gonna be all support a wide receiver you know. Are we even sure that amari rogers is better than allen. Lazard now is dead fund as the guy that they went out and got in free agency it to be the number to receiver going into last year before he opted out. You know he's back on the roster as well and he's only twenty seven years old. I think people are really forgetting about devin. Funchess to be honest with you You know this is a guy that has already been a top twenty wide receiver in his career. So i think there's a lot more competition in green bay than a lot of people are are are getting Giving them credit for and The roger situation really makes me uneasy. Amaury writers has some talent. I i just don't think he's anything special. I just think that he's at best a middle level starter of the nfl. And i don't see much of a window of him being much higher especially as long as davante adams is on that team. 'cause i just don't see that the target share i mean it's a. It's a team that clearly wants to run the ball as much as possible. So i'm not nearly as how marta riders. I i know a lot of people are people are taking them in mid second rounds now and i think that that's a mistake. I think he was the best of water. She would come out clemson for the tape stuff that i watch. Those are good points. There's a reason as to why. I say fairly high. It's because i have a lot of the same reservation that you do. But and i do. I'm generally concerned about aaron rodgers in the future in green bay with the quarterback situation. But i have to look back at amari rogers talent and what he did in his last year and clemson and what he did was ball out in my opinion. Seventy seven receptions. Thousand twenty yards seven touchdowns. Yes he had. Trevor lawrence thong him. The ball but still in a shortened season are very impressive. Numbers and amari. Rogers is a guy that has pretty much been undervalued this entire process and now all of a sudden he's going green bay people hiding him and i'm not high on him because he's going to green by on more high in him because of the talent and the potential that i see and i do think that he has the potential to be the number two receiver in green bay S a good gig. Because even if aaron rodgers is not there in a long term disturbance excellence head coach matt floor and they still have a quarterback enjoy jordan love and we really don't we haven't seen much from during love so we can't make a lot of assumptions. But he was still you still first round pick in an quarterback the has a lot of potential people were comparing him to patrick mahomes and he. He was more of a quarterback they just needed to be developed. So i think that. I think that there's a good chance that jordan love could turn into a successful quarterback if the packers ended up do and not Having rogers under center. So i think the during the love isn't a terrible option there and lathered and function function all could be a lot number two receiver in that office. But i think long term that amari. Rogers is the better prospect for may so that is why i tend to be a little bit higher on the mar bader's
Is Urban Meyer Taking a Gamble With Tebow?
"The biggest story in the nfl right now. is tim. Tebow and the jacksonville. Jaguars on friday afternoon. The jaguars sign boat to a one year. Nine hundred fifty thousand dollar minimum deal as a tight end. His jersey makes up the top five selling items on the nfl shop dot com store. Now figure that out and to me urban meyer's really running the risk of losing his locker room here because if you talk to people inside the league if you talk to executives and other coaches there's a lot of genuine skepticism over urban meyer becoming. Nfl head coach generally. And there's a sense that it's four more likely that he flames out and never wins a playoff game than it is that he winds up winning a super bowl when this experiment bringing in tim tebow not necessarily even as a quarterback you have trevor lawrence. They're bringing tim tebow into that locker room in two thousand and twenty one and having him sing for his supper is a tight end. There's a belief that meyer runs the chance inside the league of losing his locker room before this season even begins
Initial Betting After the NFL Schedule Release
"News the west gate here in las vegas just came out yesterday with lions every single game all eighteen weeks. You wanna bet on any nfl regular season game. Boom you can thousand dollars. There's a side anatole up at west gate so kudos to them. You know one thing that stood out jacksonville. We always talk about excessive travel. Not good for team. Jacksonville's the only team on the east coast. That is top. Five and travel miles of big part of that is due to go to london. And i also noticed. End of the year gave december january. Jacksonville has three games at sites that could have cold weather in december january. I looked at all. The southern california teams the florida teams in houston. None of them have more than one. So i'm pretty sure. I'm going to be actively looking at against the jaguars fire and ice come late in the year on the road gifts so the questionnaire for me is is that enough to go under on on the window. You know. Trevor lawrence is the big question mark. And i wanna see how he plays so i think i'm going to wait and evaluate not fire six and a half season a win number of pass on that.
"trevor lawrence" Discussed on NFL: Move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah & Bucky Brooks
"I didn't really take those layups all day. Long making a profit if someone wants to get back in again book leadership humility Some of those things that come up that you would think is an opposing coach. You wouldn't really pay attention to more. The skill set stuff but manages comes out. Everybody we talked to. It comes out so it's obvious. Dj that Trevor lawrence displays something on the field. That other coaches can kinda sense. Sometimes we talk about the fact in the swagger. But when i get that i get from trevor lawrence there's this self assuredness disquiet confidence that you can just pick up. That he kind of has this. I got it. Don't worry about it. Team i got i think opposing coaches recognize. That and i think they appreciate that. No doubt We've had a chance to visit with gash coaches and family members player guys. That have coached against him. Trainers you name it. We've talked but every we haven't talked to as a teammate. And we couldn't get through this episode without getting glimpse of trevor lawrence as a teammate. And we did that. Fortunately you're able to catch up with arguably the best running back in this year's draft class his teammate. Travis t. n..
Famed Hawaii Quarterback Colt Brennan Dead at Age 37
"Broke this week that took over Hawaii quarterback Colt, Brennan died. I was thirty-seven years old, it broke my heart, man. I loved Colt Brennan. When I was growing up, broke a ton of Records. He put Hawaii football on the map and found out man. It made me so upset. I actually made a mat in franchise mode. On Madden 11, I built around cold and I felt like I gave him the chance. He never really gotten the NFL to have a team believed in him and build around him was very long cathartic for
Why Would Jaguars Sign Tim Tebow?
"We are back final hour. It's been a fun show. We appreciate you being here. A lot of conversation with my Mike smith earlier. We also talked to dennis dodd. Another conversation predictably has been tim. Tebow we've given you a lot of reaction on that in the mike cannon bom from espn former gm jets dolphins. He's been here a couple of times. He had this to say earlier today. On keyshawn jay will and zubin about understanding the signing. I don't like it. I just don't see the upside in this move. He's thirty four years old. He would be a backup. I just don't know of thirty four year old players that can come in and be back place special teams and you're taking away a roster spot from hopefully a young developmental player that could grow with a young nucleus obviously led by trevor lawrence. And to me this is probably through the lens of urban. Meyer saying a decade. And a half ago tim tiba was the most competitive guy i've ever been around and he can help set the culture. If i was in that building what i would be pushing back saying coach. That may be true but in the nfl as you well know. Players needs to be led by players. They believed can take them to where they wanna go and as a backup tight end. I just don't think tim tebow would have that same credibility as he wants dave when he was the starting quarterback in florida. He also questioned whether tibo could even makes a team. I just don't see how he makes the team or urban and he's a really good coach he he's been historically great college but i just don't know he has to earn a spot and he's given a spot. That's gonna cause a big problem because players weren't have a chance to win and again to me just putting on my lens of a general manager and roster construction if you're not a starter in the nfl with only forty six players dressing you have to play special teams so my question. is tim. tibor thirty four years old going to cover cover kicks that remains to be seen. Now if he doesn't earn it does a totally different discussion. But i don't think you could sign him and say hey. He definitely has a spot on this team.
NFL Draft: No Suspense as 3 QBs Dominate Early Picks
"As expected the Jaguars to Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick Lawrence won a national championship as a freshman it was a Heisman Trophy runner up his junior year last season before entering the draft quarterbacks also were taken with the next two picks B. JPMorgan's Bitcoin Journey
"What's going on guys. It is monday april twenty six and today we're talking about j. p. morgan's bitcoin journey from worse than tulips to not my cup of tea to a new client product first. Let's do the brief. I on the brief today. Sports in crypto are definitely coming together in this cycle a couple of years ago. Nfl offensive tackle russell. Kun made a now famous declaration. Pay me in bitcoin. He currently takes half of his thirteen million dollar salary and btc and half in fiat. Kansas city chiefs. Tight end sean. Culkin is taking it to the next level. And we'll be converting the entirety of his twenty twenty one base salary. Nine hundred and twenty thousand dollars into btc. Culkin is going to convert his fiat to bitcoin. Salary conversion service. This is the same service that russell uses and it means that the paychecks are automatically converted which detaches them from market movements and allows coke in his own words to stay focused on the game for their part. The kansas city chiefs are aware but their contract is still denominated in. Us dollars about the deal. Culkin said quote for me it makes sense to get paid in the hardest form of currency. And it's something that's resistant. Inflationary pressures that. I think is very relevant in this current economic environment. That wasn't the only. Nfl crypto news today as the presumptive number one draft pick from later this week. Trevor lawrence announced a sponsorship deal with block folio the bonus of which will be paid entirely incredible out clearly. There is a mainstreaming momentum. Going on all right next up on the brief w is going on in turkey. I've been keeping you posted on everything happening in turkey but it's just gotten crazier on april sixteenth. The central bank announced that crypto would be banned as a means of payment. Effective april thirtieth. Two days later turkish exchange codex went off line on april eighteenth. The ceo of that company has gone missing and there are claims of massive fraud. Sixty two people with ties to the platform have been detained now for people have been detained as part of an investigation into verbal coin. Which is another turkish exchange. But none of this has stopped. Turkish crypto usage. In fact it's gone up sharply.
Final 2021 NFL Draft Quarterback Rankings: Trevor Lawrence and Then What?
"So guys let's start off with the quarterbacks as this is probably the least eventful group especially because we just let mark handle this position group. Because that is his forte his speciality. We don't even really need to go through the ordering or anything specific with this one as we're going to do it the other position groups but the thing that's worth noting is it. Mark was highly reluctant to really go past mack jones and then after thinking it over he threw in kellyn mind. Davis mills kyle. Trask jamie newman. And that was pretty much it so i think we can all agree here that the quarterback class in in this year's nfl draft isn't exactly very good on the back end. There's a lot of really good talent at the top but as we start to push towards the second and third round like we don't even have a third rounder in this group. There's not really a lot of good options now. It doesn't really tier that way. Joe obviously you have the tran said quote unquote time trevor. Lawrence. and then. There's a lot of debate on who that actual second quarterback would be adjusted sales from ohio. State zack wilson from byu. Mac from alabama. It seems like the jets. Presume that zack wilson from byu. And i mean. There's a lot of rumors that three the san francisco forty niners are really all in on mac jones but we'll find that out next thursday. It's gonna be interesting. I mean outside of the top five quarterbacks in legit all five of them could go for the giants would be ideal for the new york giants. That would be absolutely but outside of those five. It's it's kind of a crap shoot between callum on. I'll trask davis mills. Yeah i actually wasn't surprised to of see the look of pain almost on mark's face when he had to we almost twisted his arm into throwing out his like second and fourth round quarterbacks. This is a very top heavy quarterback draft class and part of that could just be the position. Where if you've got a quarterback who is able to be accommodated starter. He's probably going to be a first rounder and probably a high first
"trevor lawrence" Discussed on NFL: Move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah & Bucky Brooks
"Yeah we we think about him and context of kind of the draft grades. If given out andrew luck his only quarterback. I've given a higher grade to going back to three and for context. I would say. I had just a little bit higher grade on myles garrett so miles gird musician we say probably the best player his position the nfl. I have a little bit lower grade on trevor lawrence than myles garrett. But he's in that conversation which is a pretty select group is easy to put big raise on players that not only were you see the talent on film but when you dig into the background. It appears that they are very very committed to be the best that they can be. And i think with trevor all signs point to this guy be an outstanding pro player. Now sometimes we can never guarantee that it's going to work out like that but you get the sense that he is going to do everything within his power to make sure that he performs at a high level and that he's worn to bring his teammates with them. I'm willing to bank on a guy like that. I'm willing to grow the diced at a guy like that figures it out. Yeah when you get a elite traits and elite intangibles. That's when you get conviction on players you know that's when you feel confident and comfortable pushing your chips in. And he has that so he's got everything you want from skillset standpoint and then you add all the off the field stuff that checks out so Yeah to me. He's pretty easy evaluation. And i think it's like that for most of the league And i'm excited. I cannot wait to see him get on. Nfl field and see what he can do. You know you'll have tremendous success. It may not happen immediately But i think when supported in the right environment this guy is going to be a star at the next level. Everything that he's done to this point suggests that he'll be a superstar can imagine a changing right now. No i'm with you. I hope you guys have enjoyed this. It's been great to do a deep dive on trevor lawrence for this. Move the sticks. Three sixty episode. We've got a couple more you can check out They're coming so they're on the way the lookout for those as we As we celebrate some of the best players and this year's draft class this has been the move the sticks three sixty episode trevor lawrence. See next time right here..

"And you had a chance to visit with our buddy trent dilfer. Obviously this is a fun time for us. Because i feel like we get a chance to see these young quarterbacks grow up in front of our eyes. And so what i would like to do is go back to twenty seventeen to the top guys that came through the process process. Trevor lawrence justin feels. Let's story trevor lawrence when you first laid eyes on trevor lawrence. What did you think he was a sophomore or freshman highschool care member. And i said i'll be here was a kid that already was mature beyond his years obviously was a great athlete but was also pretty clean. You've been coached very well. In georgia by joey king had developed well had played a lot of seven on seven and already had played a lot of football level so he looked like a man even when he was fifteen sixteen years old and is he went through the process. He only grew bigger and stronger. More powerful than than honing his craft. And but the thing. I was the story about trevor. Isn't the physical stuff. It's the mental stuff. Is the competitive stuff i i remember at the opening of the year he was there. He was a sponge with. Craig nall one of our coaches who played seven years in the. Nfl was bugging him late at night going into his room after hours and asked him to teach more ball is a kid that loves football. He loves to learn. He has zero entitlement to him. He has no ego as team. Above self guy so he checks every single boxer is to check as a prospect. He was checking back near seventeen years. Old i mean. I remember seeing watching them at the opening scene. This guy could go to an nfl training camp right now and throw one one throw routes on air and look like an nfl quarterback. You know it's funny that you talk about that. I just think that remember getting tough for him. A little bit at at the opening in the finals. What did you discover and watching him. Go through some adversity as a young person. What's the biggest thing i look for. Be quite honest with you. Ally base a lot of my evaluations respond to setbacks We look at it in game with an acronym pace plays after critical flares Study that really hard and in that environment a camp environment or high school football game environment of practice environment off the field. A guy can be a knucklehead off-the-field and housing respond to that after the fact. So i think it's i think that that evaluation has a lot to do with their long term success. Because you're gonna have a lot of setbacks. you're going to have a lot of adversity. It's not what happened to you. It's how you respond to it and then trevor's a guy bit whether it was the old venetian whether it was not winning the final game of his high school career. Whether it was a setback at clemson he's always been a guy that bounces back. Better the next opportunity and that's really what you're looking for him and tom. Brady's a lot of interceptions he's lost. A lot of games is a lot of stinkers bad series..

"Bit of pressure. Now he's gonna stop. He's to run his left and he's gonna float it to the end zone. He's got out there. Detail turn touchdown. What a play by trevor proud to have the mayor of georgia and also radio broadcaster at wbz h f in georgia matt santini. Thanks for joining the mcas park. How you doing thank you bucky pleasure to be with you talk about one of our hometown. Heroes speaking of yoga obviously trevor. Lawrence is a big deal down there but before we get to that. I wanna know. How do you juggle duties of being the mayor of the town and also The play by play voice of the high school games high school. Well that is a great question The mayor's position in carter's villes a part time position. We have a city manager form of government. So i get to manage the meetings be involved a lot of economic development and policy issues. I'm not responsible for all the day to day operations. Fortunately we've got a professional for that running. The radio station gets tricky. Sometimes for instance that new car. i'm driving. We will not do a story on all the money. That's missing from city hall. That's pretty funny. They're married now. Obviously everyone is excited about trevor lawrence. I'm sure he is celebrated in that town. But let's go all the way back. What was it like the first time that you saw. Trevor locks you know the story. Trevor really begins before he was even in high school. People were talking about this eighth grade kid and carter's last very story Football program and so they've had success and so it's nothing to see kids. Come through and have a great deal of success. But when you hear about this eighth grader. That's going to be coming up and play quarterback and might potentially be this fantastic player. It was kind of skeptical. And you'll be real careful about trying to over promote thirteen or fourteen year old kids. They are actually that just kids but it didn't take long. It was that first year where he was a freshman. He was rotating quarterback duties with miller forestall who went on to play at alabama and it was the second game it really was when they were playing north. Cobb actually ended up losing the football game. A but miller had gotten hurt and so the keys were turned over to trevor. At that point they lost the game by one but it wasn't for lack of any effort on his people had a fantastic game and from there. You just kind of knew that there was something special about this kid and from there he just kind of took off and it was really amazing arm strength and the where he places the football from from the time he was a freshman early in the season was just remarkable yet has to be a communist young guy handle the responsibilities beyond the starting quarterback on varsity with the level of i dunno precision and production. That trevor was able to do so. What some of the highlights that. You can remember of trevor lawrence his high school career. I look back at his really his sophomore year..
Trevor Lawrence Reaffirms His Dedication to Football
"Controversy that broke out this week. I mean, the kind of stuff that when you really think about it could affect opinions. Apparently, Trevor Laurence doesn't have it ship on his shoulder. Now, um, let's think about the absurdity of this for just a moment, Miss all came from a Sports Illustrated article. In which basically I guess if you really wanted to read into it, which A lot of you sure did. Kind of thought that this questioned the overall passion. For Trevor, Laurence and football and I quote It's not like I need this for my life to be okay. I want to do it because I want to be the best I can be. I want to maximize my potential. Who wouldn't want to You kind of wasted if you know. He added. Whenever asked about Maintaining a healthy attitude without finding extra motivation in every actual or perceived slider. Disrespect. Dr Lawrence said. Hard to explain that because I want people to know that I'm a passionate guy and I'm passionate about what I do, and it's really important to me. But Don't have this huge chip on my shoulder. Don't have this huge and ship that everyone's out to get me and I'm not trying to prove everybody wrong. I just don't have that I can't manufacture that. I don't want to. I think that's unhealthy. To a certain extent. Just always thinking that you've got to prove somebody wrong. You've got to doom or you've got to be better. By the way, when I first read that I kind of thought that's a shot of Baker Mayfield. I'm just being honest. That's the first thing that came to mind because what is my man? What a six always have in Cleveland. He got chip on his shoulder. And it might even be manufactured, but he is always He is always going to play up the fact that he's being disrespected

"So for the next five years and i consider everything injuries age whatever interests declining ascending. I think. Trevor lawrence is the best quarterback prospect since andrew lock and i think maybe even a little better than lock in terms of his ability to move played and far more big college games. So joy will ask me. We'll call it traveler. You'll put up young quarterbacks old quarterbacks next five years. Who would i take trevor lawrence or the quarterback chevron lawrence or russell wilson very difficult but as i told you i don't love the current situation with seattle pete carroll russell wilson. This was my hardest choice. I'm gonna go trevor lawrence. This was my hardest choice. I don't think russell wilson will be in seattle in one more year two more years and if he doesn't go there i don't know i love it. Also russell wilson has because of his salary is gonna strap wherever he plays. And i always trust. Seattle's drafting history next five years. I this the first time. I've been like it's not even negative. It's been concerned about russell. Wilson chen or more justin. Herbert Trevor lawrence or justin. Herbert i would go justin. Herbert i think he is a slightly more talented version of trevor lawrence. I think he's stronger. I think he's got a better arm and stronger. Trevor lawrence twenty two years old thirty plus touchdown passes set an nfl record. Also he's got a very good football team around him. We don't know jacksonville is going to get there. And he's also like trevor lawrence not gonna cost you anything for the foreseeable future. His contract is not an issue. Trevor lawrence or does shawn watson. Well this is easier now. Trevor lawrence to sean has had a bumpy off season. And i to be honest both clemson. I think trevor just those better football i really do and i also worry about shawn watson. Playmaking style and his injuries. So that's an easy one for me. Trevor lawrence or kyla murray I would go. Trevor lawrence. And i like murray listen trevor. Six six and two twenty and cuyler. Small and i also think marine one year joy may have a new coach that worries me more division in football pete carroll sean mcvay kyle shanahan. It's a great rushes in that division. Aaron donald and carlos dunlap and what seattle's gotten san francisco and bosa so i would take next five years. I think trevor lawrence in kind of a goofy or more winnable division would flourish trevor lawrence aaron rodgers five years trevor lawrence thirty-seven again. Don't think it's always great with the in the front office. They don't have the ability to get free agents He's had to collarbone injuries. He's got other interests and in the last four. Nfc championship games. He's known for not always the greatest leader. All of a great talent next five years. Trevor lawrence trevor lawrence or josh allen josh allen because he goes josh allen has it all good owner. Gm good coach. And i think after this draft a really good defense. So i'd josh allen bigger stronger better arm and a little faster as a chevra lawrence or lamar jackson. Trevor lawrence a throw the football. Lamar is gonna get expensive here in about a year year and a half i also think that division pittsburgh baltimore cleveland. Cincinnati is loaded. So i would take trevor. Who i think is just a better distributor of the football. Trevor lawrence are matthew stafford..

"Like in the bucket ears but you know the packers have been dominant team. They aaron raw others admitted as such after that game against the panthers on saturday that they're not going to be able to play like they did in the second half of wayne in the postseason. I think there's teams can get hot. The dog of the nfc playoff picture right now. Who knows about tom brady. And the buccaneers. I think anyone you know necessarily wants to face our murray the andre hopkins and the cardinals. The rams have been so up and down that they're highs have been so high that they want at tampa bay. They wanted arizona oppressive few weeks ago. We know the loss against the jets is past sunday. And then we'll see what happens with other teams like seahawks saint so i think the kinda summarize it. Afc chiefs the bills for me in the nfc with the packers. Just because that those two home games lambo will be so tough but don't be surprised if a wildcard team comes out of the afc but the rams get eliminated from the playoffs for losing to the jets. I think i mean we're going to change the bylaws to the playoffs because of that. Well i mean that. Ellison i just again. I'm still having a hard time passing the whole thing. But here's the thing out Awful loss that was an say whatever. The reasons for we could talk about for days. We won't get into that if they if they win in seattle on sunday in week sixteen they will be back in first place in the nfc west. I i can't but you can't get over that loss. I can tell and by the way like i'm not a fan anymore. I research among honestly. Like i'm i am truly disappointed for all my friends right. Who follow the jets went through this whole year. They've gone through decades of this crap. August looking forward to get this guy and it was snatched for them for nothing. Oh and by the way like the team they played they. Nobody should have to endure sixteen. See i got. I got it but still like i'm just telling i just i can't believe it plus redo this whole podcast. So that's the way. That goes along as believe mike danna bouncing maybe the jets will have everything work out for them. The jaguars will go out. And they'll either beat the bears or maybe the colts play for week. Seventeen and maybe the jets will get a lifeline. Are still two weeks old now. you never know. That's why they play the games and then we appreciate your time today. Thank you very much happy holidays. Happy new year to you and your family and appreciate all you've done for me and this podcast this year. Thanks adam same to you. We'll talk to you next year. There is espn analyst grew. Evan kaplan on what is our final podcast episode of the season and as we begin to close the book on twenty twenty look ahead to twenty twenty one thankfully for all of our sake shorter point out. What a difficult year twenty twenty was an all the great people that we lost in twenty twenty now. Every year on new year's eve. I liked to compile a of names of people who lost their lives that year. Just one final time to remember them in the year in which they lost their lives and i keep a running track of an done this for years and the list of names of people who lost their lives in twenty twenty is off the charts and i would dare say there was more sadness. More loss more high-profile loss this year than i would venture say year that can remember maybe ever and it started on new year's day last year when i'm sitting there watching i think it was the rose bowl when espn that david stern had passed away and on the very same day. That david durham passed away. Don larsen the last man to throw a perfect human rights to receive died and the names just kept coming. Sam weiss george perlas and then of course the plane crash that everybody will always remember kobe. Bryant g g bryant. John altobelli now is the time in a moment that everybody will remember where they were when that happened and the death just kept coming chris. Doleman willie wood roger. Kahn more amanda great. Espn espy's producer. James lipton ed. Ingles del schaaf ner curly neal. Tom dempsey bobby. Mitchell alkaline to boris jackson. Hank steinbrenner willie davis. Mike curtis the great football coach. Don shula john teerlinck a friend of mine ratio cod. Well ken riley. Jim kick max turk joe bugle. Croton haselrig regis philbin. Pete hamill howard. Mudd chadwick boseman. That was a brutal one. There will brutal but that one hurt. John thompson tom. Seaver larry wilson gale. Sayers bob gibson whitey ford joe morgan fred dean seed hartman jimmy. You're travis roy. Herb adderley poll for nick. Jake scott diego maradona. Jim hannifin ray perkins lorenzo tele pharaoh. I'm sure i'm leaving off people. But that's a partial list of some of the names that i compiled. I didn't even include a guy like vomit clear the great espn reporter down in atlanta colleague of ours. So many people this year so many great people and so many memorable people who made a difference in our lives and i just wanted to repeat one final time on the way out of twenty twenty how much we remember these people how much we will miss these people. And what a difference they made in all of our lives.

"Better help dot com slash adam now onto the man who all this conversation has been and will continue to be about. He is expected to be the number one overall pick. He joined us in the days leading up to the game against notre dame when we thought he would be the number one overall pick of the new york jets only to find out that the jets would beat the rams on sunday and now several lawrence is in position to call jacksonville home for years to come will see other. The season plays out what. Here's what trevor lawrence had to say when he joined us last week. Trevor how are you doing this. Is adam schefter. Hi how are you doing well. It's nice to talk with you. I appreciate you taking the time to do this. I guess i should start out and ask you what this whole year has been like for you going through a year. Where fans are limited in the stands cove is the big issue. You get over yourself everybody in the country's gunning for your what is this year been like for you. It's been crazy. I mean just From a mental and i guess psychological standpoint. It's definitely been different than any other year. I think it's kinda shown Just nine personally just as far as college football programs go kinds weeded out. Some of the programs that are either you know not the culture isn't as good or they're still building it up or whatever. I think it's kinda shown wh which schools have done a good job of handling it whether players really To love playing there you see some of the schools that are it's kinda you know. Give them a competitive advantage. If you will this year then you see other schools. Where kinda fell off the wagon. So i think for for us and for me. It's just been trying to stay locked in because obviously this is a crazy time but eventually things are going to get back to normal. And you wanna feel like that. You made the most of the time even though it's been crazy so that's been the biggest thing for me but it's been harder. It's been a lot more distractions. Obviously uncertainty with everything and then The florida state week for example. You prepare all week. I came back after three weeks then. Boom game gets canceled the morning of when we're in florida so just things like that or mentally and physically kind of like draining just because you put little weekend of physical but also mental prep in hours of watching cape and getting ready and then it's just you don't get the chance to to perform so i mean that's that's frustrating but obviously in a time like this. It's kind of expected into to a certain extent but man it's been it's been different different than any your experience. Trevor's been different for everybody everywhere. The nfl level the real world all across the country. Everybody's dealing with it in their own ways right so you're dealing with it in your college football way and you're still riding your story this season but when it's written when you look back at the seasoning you think back to your last year clemson. I presume what were you think of. And what will you remember most about this particular season. i think. Just enjoying enjoying This year here i mean. Obviously it's kind of been stripped down to the basics like you said there's no fans really i mean there's there's a few i guess but very limited and just being able to not being able to go out and do a ton of stuff just being here with with my teammates. My friends that it's just been special you know we've gotten really close this year. We've kind of been through a lot so we've come closer together. But i really just remember is being able to go there and play football. Obviously that's that was endow the beginning of the year so just grateful for that and i think i've grown a lot this year and this off season i felt like i kind of learned how to be a pro in a sense because more responsibility was on all of us on our own because we were in different places having to get get to work in wherever we were. We weren't here. In clinton you know have mandatory workouts every morning. Then you know film and all that stuff so i think that for me. That was a good. You know i got to grow in that way was like this is what i gotta do on my own. I got a really grow up in a sense and and be responsible. Was there any part of you with the season being what it was that thought about opting out there were some players that did that to you. Ever give any consideration to do next forever. I thought about it a little bit. I mean i never really never really got to the point where. I almost decided to do that but i did. You know we went through my mind like okay. What are the pros and cons either way of playing or not playing And then it ultimately came down to just you know. I i love to play football and i love i love clemson and i felt like i wasn't ready to our wasn't ready to move on. Yeah I wanted that that last year that i've expected to have you know i never went into college thinking i'm only gonna play two years of football you know i'm thinking for maybe three but who knows and then to only play too especially the way it ended last year. I really wanted to to get another shot with you. Know friends and teammates here to in the right way. So that was the biggest thing for me was just. I don't think i was ready to leave clemson behind you. You know when. It's like that trevor. do you go through to. This is the last time. I'm going to go to play in this stadium. This is the last time plan front of these fans last home game west. I'm playing with this. Do you have little mental checklist of things that you get to try to savor a little bit more bleeding that it's your last year there. I mean yeah. I think i think you have to right. It's a it's just one of those things if you don't you miss it kinda and then you get to the end and you're like man. I wish i would have..

"Take the next highest ranked quarterback in that draft. What do you think. So it's in this sequence first and foremost that we have to nail the evaluation on sam darnold. Nothing else matters. Thirty seven interceptions in crew football twenty two college. Sam darnold turns of all over lot. Now if we're trying to build our case we could say going back to sc. He's had a number of different offensive coordinators at headquarters in a very short amount of time. That was my concern. When i evaluated him coming out a candidate still concerned so we have to see what he does over the last couple of weeks and then before you get to the drafters to really intriguing players to me at the pro level. Marcus mariota jameis winston. They're both young. They both started jamesy seventy games in the nfl and can you clean up the mistakes that he made. That's something that you'll have to be looked at very very carefully. And then there's three other quarterbacks to me that would be an discussion. It would be just justin fields mack. Jones kyle trask so between the two in the nfl and the other three talk about. I would juxtaposed. Sam darnold and those five quarterbacks what do you think it's like the jets organization. Look the players are thrilled. There's a burden of relief not to go down in history but fans are despondent. I was getting text from fans after the game. Angry jets fan deflated jets. Fans frustrate jet. What do you make the whole situation like that. If you're the jets. Yeah it's really a split feeling because the first floor that facilities in florida today to backflips. They're talking about their resiliency. A mental toughness so the players and coaches and the reality is at the conversations are on those coaches offices as they know that most of them won't be there next year so they don't really care they can't come out and say that they don't really care about where that organizations picking extra because they know the reality of businesses in likely all likelihood they will be there and if your ownership in the front office you're very measured pobably what you're saying but it of course behind closed doors. You're devastated that you're not gonna get what could be literally a once in ten or twenty year talent in trevor lawrence and it happened in the most unexpected way you be a good ham team in la which is of all the scenarios we've seen the sheer adam that one to me is the most Least likely to occur this result. I know it's fresh but it seems as as improbable as maddening. As any they've ever had. We've seen a lot of jets games. That have been tough for fans to this. Mike i i i still. I still can't believe it. I gotta be honest. I still can't believe. I'm watching the game and saying this isn't going to happen this. This isn't end and it happened. i cannot believe it. The tackled brandon manda checks punter when my main change history. Because if he doesn't make that tackle late in the fourth quarter the rams when the game i agree with you. That is the tackle that will go down in history. Who would've thought that a punters tackling abilities would cost the jets potentially trevor lawrence. That's howard shapes. That's act why not turn the butter. That is the most jets thing ever. Yeah of all the games could one vegas at home. You could say yeah stack could happen but the rams on road after getting wax actual change your defensive coordinator i just was the most improbable set of circumstances and amd to be fair. The game shouldn't even have been that close. They dominated the rams unbelievable now question. You were with the jets in january of nineteen ninety seven when they went to denver to play in the afc championship game held a ten nothing lead at halftime in denver against john elway box. The second half kickoff and narrowly lost the game. Do you think it's a more devastating. Blow to the new york jets franchise to lose that. Afc championship gaming denver. Or have the punter made to tackle that results in a win. That beats los angeles that potentially cost your franchise. The prospect of many considered to be the best quarterback prospect since andrew walker peyton manning. Oh boy mike greenberg may be better guy to ask that question to but what would might china-bound sake. Well you know for me. I would say honestly the championship game denver. Because here's why way that was. After the ninety eight season alexander was january. Ninety nine but i would say this atlanta upset minnesota earlier the day and we felt like we could be atlanta if we got the super bowl. So i say that kickoff return thirty minutes away from potentially side to win the game but could cost the ultimate super bowl ring because we ugly at halftime we got game. I think we would have beaten the salads. As i said to you and take one of this podcast. The broncos were petrified of plane that fifteen in one vikings team with dante. Culpepper randy moss. Chris carter robert smith. It was an all time team that suffered one of the most surprising upsets in a conference championship game. That i can ever remember. Nobody thought the falcons with dan reeves doing the dirty burke go into minnesota and beat the vikings. It's exactly what happened. And then the winner of that broncos jets january ninety eight. afc championship game was gonna win the super bowl no matter what. And that's exactly what happened. So the jets did lose the super bowl. That day lost the conference championship game. But the opportunity. When this you both mike this is so fresh. Though that that this feels just as deflating and dispiriting and discouraging to jet fans as that. Afc conference championship game loss in denver. Twenty two years ago. Yeah and again when you think about educating late from justin fields or zappala tobacco's those guys. Barring something for seeing orange will be great. He has a chance to be an all time. Great character ability. He checks every box. And there's a steep steep drop off from anybody else so look maybe they'll be the adam schefter hot part three with the jacksonville accepting the chicago bears. Unless that happens to relaunch will be a jaguar and by the way in typical jets fashion. I grew up a jets fan back in the day. But the jets had the chance to get peyton manning and didn't assure him that he would be the number one overall pick and he went back to school and then they had the chance to get trevor lawrence were three games away and had their punter making the tackle on the los angeles rams returned.

"Podcast we'll be joined by the former general manager of the new york jets former executive the miami dolphins mike tannenbaum as he breaks down the situation for the number one overall pick and how jacksonville and the new york jets could and will be impacted going forward and we'll be joined by the presumptive number. One overall pick in the twenty twenty one draft clemson quarterback trevor lawrence as he begins to look ahead to life in the nfl and finally will have espn's analytics in statistical guru. Evan kaplan breakdown. Trevor lawrence the oh coming draft class from twenty twenty one in the quarterbacks in it and who might emerge for the upcoming super bowl for this past season but of course we start with the jets the jaguars and the race for trevor lawrence. Who ever would have thought that the new york jets punter brayden man would be the man that potentially would change history and shift the dynamics of the number one and number two overall picks the jets pulled off the improbable upset as only they can with their punter making a huge tackle a game saving tackle in the fourth quarter. That helped the jets win the game. Lose the war. They lost out to the jacksonville. Jaguars who now move into the number one. Slot in the race for the presumptive number-one pick trevor lawrence. Hard to imagine that the jets did it but they did. And it has implications across the board that we're going to go into with mike tannenbaum and the irony is we had put together a whole episode on this podcast of mike tannenbaum talking about the jets failure to get peyton manning to leave tennessee to come out and become the number one overall pick in the year that the jets at it because the jets would not promise him that he would be the number one. Pick which even to this day is hard to imagine and hard to process and we brought back. Mike tannenbaum after the jets pull the upset of the season in the nfl for tate. "So great one of the biggest questions swirling around trevor lawrence. All season has been whether or not. He'll enter the two thousand twenty one. Nfl draft where he would of course be the presumptive number. One pick what is he had to say about that decision. Right as the season started he had told college game day on. Espn that the plan was for this to be his final year. And i think that's what we all assumed going into it. And so then that kind of got out there. But then midway through the season he had kind of said well. This has been the plan. But i'm not gonna commit one way or the other woman to say no matter what for sure. I'm leaving school and that's just not something. I'm going to say. His point was. I'm not gonna put myself into that box. I'm not gonna commit to anything he said you guys will in february or january. Remember go to quarter myself like that and it's like that's what people wanna hear them. Today i to the myself opportunities take everything to make a decision. His thing has just been. He's been extremely intentional. About wanting to stay in the moment and enjoy every single minute of twenty twenty which is obviously been a really trying season for so many reasons and so that's been his big thing is let me talk about the nfl draft. And whatever i'm gonna do when that time comes but for now. I'm just going to soak in whatever time i have left and really appreciate the run. That clemson is on. Do you have a sense for who is in trevor lawrence intersex people and who really has his ear as he makes. This decision becomes from a great family. His fiancee obviously is going to be part of that decision. And i get the sense that his best friend on clinton's team is daring rancher. Backup running back. Darren had made a joke a few weeks ago. About how trevor. And maybe mari rogers and travis. Et and he had said something about like. You know those guys are idiots if they come back but Yeah i think it's family and just a couple of really close friends that he knows really well on a super comfortable with obviously clinton's coaches as well different. Nfl fan groups have been campaigning for their teams to intentionally lose in order to get the number one pick and presumably trevor lawrence. What has been. Trevor laurence's reaction to the hashtag tank for trevor campaign. I think he's had some fun with it. I mean trevor is not a guy that gets super wrapped up in social media or whatever but he's also not a robot tried ignored as much as possible. Obviously you're on social media at all. I can't help but see some of it but it's just funny. It's a new team every week. So i'll take any real insight of what's going to happen. I think he has a good sense of humor. And obviously there's no way you can be trevor lawrence and not know what people are saying about you on the internet. But i think he's enjoyed it. I think he's have fun with it. Well last grace. I'm gonna ask you to read the tea leaves here. How does this season end for trevor lawrence clemson and what comes next. I think we're headed down another clemson alabama battle In the national championship. So if it goes trevor's way voicing of another national title trophy. And i think he moves on and starts next. Chapter of his career comes to get past high of state i. Obviously they've had some success doing that in the past but this is what trump is hoping for and here. They are hoping to compete for their third title since two thousand sixteen grace. Thanks so much for joining us. Thanks for having me appreciate it. You can follow grace. You know I would have loved to be a fly on whatever wall in whichever room that phone call took place the president has said really that trevor just reiterated his desire to play this season but trevor for his part hasn't divulged too much about that phone call. . Conversation it was good I mean we just talked about kind of the whole we talked about that. . We WanNA play like how's it going? ? How's it looking for the season and? ? <hes> president trump was just saying, , yeah, , I think our country needs college football and. . then. Some . small talk. . Yes. . We a little bit about what was going on in my life and vice versa. . So that was pretty much the conversation though trevor is twenty years old the president of the United States wanted to speak to him. . That is remarkable crazy. . No matter which way you cut it. . So. Let's . recap here Halley Grossman because since March Trevor, , Lawrence Age Twenty has faced pressure to help mitigate a global pandemic fight racism save the College football season display a level of political savvy and or gamesmanship that is obviously well beyond his years. . So what else can you possibly be asked to do at this point? ? I mean look putting your stamp of approval which he's done on a list of demands that includes creating players. . Association is a big deal. . That's a radical way to reimagined that amateurism model that governs. . College football right now but I think what this summer has shown is that trevor doesn't plan to quiet down you just a few days ago a whole lot of guys that original zoom call we talked about reconvened because they revealing again from a police shooting of a black man again, , and so in the days after Jacob, , Blake was shot. . Trevor and Darien and Dylan, , and a whole host of others talked once again to hammer out ways to help to draw attention to the issue and hopefully bring change. . Trevor Lawrence football season is starting tomorrow and if all goes according to plan. . He's GonNa win the heisman before becoming the first overall pick in next year's NFL draft teams have been salivating over his talent. . There have been rumors that teams might even want to tank for Trevor Lawrence this season. . So the question really that is, , why is he even putting himself out there like this? ? Why even play the season? ? I mean that is the question, , right? ? We have seen plenty a high profile opt-outs this season jomar chase at Lsu. . Mike Parsons at Penn State today. . Oregon. . These are first round top ten NFL draft guys but no one literally nobody has less to lose by not playing the twenty twenty football season than Trevor Lawrence. . are in a player having a job borough like. . Or I don't know an asteroid hitting the earth, , his Cossacks to go number one overall are safe, , and at the same time, , no one has less to gain by paddling the status quo or shaking up the current system than trevor does this system works just fine for him? ? He is a young white man. . He's a young white quarterback, , and so I asked Amanda, , his mother that seems washing. . Why? ? Why do all this? ? I put himself out there and she said something interesting she said look. . there. . are players out there who do need to even if trevor doesn't and there are people out there for whom the status quo and the current system don't work even if it works for him and he understands that now probably better than he ever has and he just wants to help. . That's really it know told me one of his goals for the senior only meeting because he wanted everyone to understand that unless everyone is good no one is good and trevor, his , best friend took that to heart. . Of the day, , there's so much division in our country. . Just word of some people that WanNa see people together, , WanNa see people love each other and I think that's where a lot of the things I do. . It stems from that just wanted to see people happy together not divided. . With all this pressure now from all of these different places in our country. . Landing Atop. . Trevor Lawrence's shoulders. . What are you personally expect from him when the season starts? ? Because of the ways in which Trevor Lawrence has stepped onto center stage this summer it's almost easy to forget what it is. . That gives him that stage in the first place, , he is extremely good at his job. . Term Lawrence is an excellent quarterback. . Making predictions in two, , thousand, , twenty, hundred, , , probably a fools errand. . But tomorrow, , there's football comes we'll pay wake forest, , and if clemson continues to play if they and the ACC and the big twelve and sec are able to play a full season, , don't be surprised to see Trevor Lawrence back on the national championship stage. . Don't be surprised to see Trevor Lifting the national championship trophy and along the way don't be surprised to see trevor continuing to speak out and perhaps that's one of the safest predictions you can make in twenty twenty. . Life to be reflection of what I say and what I believe I've been thinking about everything that's going on and I think there has been some some moments where I had to say some things because it's just the right thing to do and it's time really is just how I live my life I want it to reflect what I say. . I. . Would always be the same person I want to be consisted. . Eliot Grossman. . Thank you for jumping on stage with. . US. . Thank you so much for having me. . Pablo. .

"That was Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence speaking to College Game Days Tom Rinaldi yesterday about what it's like being the most visible player in college football when so much about the sport and society as a whole is under scrutiny. It's not a role that Lawrence went looking for, but it found him as suddenly fell players the media even the president of the United States are all asking the twenty year old for his thoughts on everything from playing football alternate pandemic to questions of racial inequality. Today USPS Halley. Grossman. Explains how Trevor Lawrence became the center of everything. In the College Football Universe and how he's using the enormous platform he's been given. I'm Pablo Torre. It's Friday. September eleven. This. Is, ESPN. Grossman thank you for joining US ESPN daily. Thank you for having problem. Excited to be here. We're bringing you on today because you have this huge story. On ESPN. Dot Com and it's timely because preseason number one clemson is kicking off their season tomorrow against the wake forest and I think it's safe to say that no player has more is on them this season than the person you profiled junior quarterback trevor. Lawrence. He's currently the favourite to win the heisman trophy. He's also widely expected to be the number one pick in next year's NFL draft. And in any normal football season, he would be under tremendous scrutiny just based on what he does on the field but this is not an ordinary year and you write the following passage. Lawrence's captured us in a way that feels new and a little radical and more than a little paradigm shifting. He is the face of college football. In this turbulent twenty, twenty season. He's the face of all. That is tectonically shifting in the sport this fall. So what did you mean by that? What feels different about trevor is that he is more than just the preeminent player in college football. Is He a Heisman frontrunner? Yes. Is there a pretty good chance? He's going to be playing on the national championship stage for the third time in his career? Absolutely the truly he is more than just the face of the sport. He is also the agent of change his sport. Sees really just jumping into the fray when it comes to the biggest issue surrounding college football this summer, the pandemics, systemic racism amateurism, all those `Isms, right? He is just not shied away from any of them and along the way he's jumped on a phone call with the president of the United. States to really just put an exclamation point on what has been an eventful historic summer. Yeah. We're GONNA dive into each one of those one by one but I want to. Just, pause for a second. It is so much to place on anyone let alone this kid who was twenty years old so disturbing Lawrence understand the magnitude of the scrutiny that he's under. Oh, I think unequivocally the answer is, yes. I had the chance to talk to Darien venture is twenty twenty. So we talked over zoom, but daring is a running back at Clemson and he is one of Trevor's closest friends on the team. They go to Bible study together travelled together basically live at each other's homes even though they're not officially roommates and Darren I talked about that same question what does Trevor Make? Of that scrutiny and daring told me it's more than just trevor being aware of the attention paid to him. He gets that like I said, it's impossible to not get the trevor also understands the responsibility that comes with that attention. Trevor himself said just a few days ago that he doesn't consider himself an activist. He considers himself a person who has a lot of eyes on him at all times I know that. There's a lot of eyes on me. You know critics but also younger generations and people look it up to me I guess in a way I am conscious of that. I WANNA I WANNA, use my platform the right way in and try to impact people not about an activist of any sorts. But I do think I have a responsibility to move quality and to help people I love. So the notion of all of this attention being something that he is articulating embracing thriving. I want to figure out how we got to this point and it seems like to the casual football fan halley. He's always been this kind of anointed golden boy is well. Has It always been this way kind of it has. Trevor Lawrence looks like a generational talent. Laura gets it away. into. He. Broke a whole bunch of Georgia high school records previously set by a guy named Shawn Watson. And then he goes. Goes to Shawn. Watson scully, the cleansing five games into his true freshman season there. So back in two, thousand, eighteen, he takes over as starter. Lawrence. He's out of the game was sixteen for the Tigers, the brush cutters Georgia. I taste college football for Lawrence. And he reads constant the National Championship? Game Against Alabama where he just harv Nick Sabin Defense. Lawrence shutdown failed betty. Tigers force big. Orange. With Iraq. Touchdown. Ever think you'd save. Team. Beaten down like this and a championship game. When he went from being eight college quarterback to feed next rate NFL quarterback and he's been anointed a surefire number one draft pick ever since. So, let's get into the buzzsaw that is twenty twenty because it's been shredding pretty much everything but Trevor Lawrence back in March as the US is becoming this epicenter. Now of a global pandemic, he acted with a particular purpose and a strategy. What did he do? Trevor became the headline. This off season was when he started gofundme campaign, he started it with Marissa Murray who was his girlfriend at the time and is now is fiance they set out to raise funds to offer financial relief for people impacted by the pandemic they posted the campaign on a Monday in late March they race twenty, six, hundred dollars in a matter of hours and then the same. Day they were asked by the Clemson compliance office to take down the fundraiser because of NCWA rules around using players, names, images, likenesses for things like crowdfunding and doesn't go over well at all the idea that a compliance officer at a school what actually think hold on you doing something good may be in violation of NCAA rule is a reason why people give the NCW benefit of the doubt. Against very quickly releases a statement clarifying they hadn't asked trevor or Marissa to take down the fundraiser, and that indeed they were working with schools to be flexible and allow trevor and students like driver to raise money for charity. During the pandemic anybody who follows college football, we'll tell you the NC double. A. Is not necessarily a nimble organization they've offered exemptions in the past, but would they have acted so quickly come out. So publicly for the fundraiser, if doesn't have Trevor Lawrence's name attached I, don't know with this I. If you want to attract attention to something, it doesn't hurt to how Trevor Lawrence his name alongside it. And so. A couple of months later, that Dynamic Trevor Lawrence lending his name to something. To. Bring attention to a cause he cares about. It all speeds up because of the killing of George Floyd. How did Trevor Lawrence Process that? I think to understand how trevor was impacted by George, Floyd's death how.

"Meals on the ground, we were approaching it from the vantage. Point of it's not just meal served its jobs saved, and those are the two metrics that really mattered in this, and they also really mattered to Bank of America. We're so grateful to Bank of America for supporting. Here's something good and for supporting organizations across the country who are on the frontlines addressing medical response capacity food insecurity access to learning and providing support to Bonobo populations. I'm Kim. As a rally listened to hear something good on the iheartradio APP apple, podcasts, or wherever you listen to your favorite shows. So Joe Boroughs a nice quarterback prospect. He's not nearly as talented justin fields or certainly. Trevor Lawrence the Clemson quarterback. But. It's an remarkable to me. That because Joe Berle on a significantly better team. At twenty three years old, he'll be twenty. Four soon beats a twenty year old Trevor Lawrence with an inferior team Clemson. Lsu was a better team they had fifteen guys drafted five in the first round or fourteen guys drafted this year five in the first round. That's insane. And, there's an argument to be made and I don't have a lot of pushback. That Lsu is the best college football team for a season. Ever I don't have a lot of pushback. They beat seven top twenty five teams or Something? I don't have it in front of me, but it's it's. It's hard, argue they beat everybody and often convincingly, but Mel Kiper was on ESPN show this morning. Get up and he's talking about well. Because of that game, you saw Berle's way better than Trevor Lawrence as a prospect avenue see those on the field, and that final game Saint Joe Borough wouldn't have gone number one over Trevor Lawrence Lawrence struggling and the game prior to that against Ohio, state until I can say. Left that football game that game turn so I think no, no question. Joe Borough would have been a lot guaranteed to be the number one pick the bengals. were. Not a single GM I know thinks that not one. Joe Boroughs of fifth year, twenty three year old senior. Who didn't do, anything could not beat out. Jt Barrett, Dwayne Haskins. Couldn't beat out J.. T. Barrett so scout team guy in the League Trevor Lawrence was so good. that. He goes to Clemson The coaching staff says Kelly Bryant your twelve and to last year. Sit down. Nineteen Year olds better. Trevor's. He's twenty now. It night team, he walked into a program that was on fire. That in one a national championship here's Kelly. Bryant goes twelve to the next year. They sat him for a nineteen year old. Highschool not close I saw trevor. Lawrence play Nice school bigger than barreau stronger better arm bigger hands, better athlete everything. This is totally unfair as a freshman Trevor Lawrence Thirty touchdowns for picks. No redshirt year. Just go play. It's not close. To say that Berle beat Trevor Lawrence head-to-head proves anything is Nick foles better than Tom Brady because I. Watch the Super Bowl. What does that prove Larry Bird's team beat Michael Jordan lot so did Isaiah Thomas. His team doesn't prove anything Michael is better. So this. Downgrading Trevor Lawrence because he lost a probably the best college football team ever makes no sense. In fact, there's article today. Joe Borough draws concerns from anonymous NFL general, Manager. He's Alex Smith like according to Mike Sando, Mike's really good. The athletic the GM compared borough to Alex Smith. He said quote. He doesn't have a lot of power. Strengthen his arm at all. He's a one year producer. Love his brain his short accuracy. He's Alex Smith. In fact, burroughs six four to twenty, smith was six four to thirteen. They're even built like I've said boroughs more Tony. Romo, but I think Raimondo Alex Smith. Talent wise pretty darn close I take Romo by an inch. So I, just think it's incredible. That because of a singular game trevor, Lawrence had never lost a football game till Lsu and people say well, you know. He struggled against Ohio State. Against Ohio State Trevor Lawrence threw for two hundred sixty yards to TD's. No picks rushed for one hundred seven yards, and a touchdown and they won. That struggling and that was the best Ohio state team. People said ever people were saying that was the best big ten team ever. So, I think it's incredible. How unfair we are to this kid! He's a really Nice quarterback prospect. Trevor Lawrence. is almost four years younger than him. He's a kid..
