What NFL team you nose can be overseas with three straight years trawl crowd but can't sell out their home seat at their own stadium. Yeah. You told about the model of inconsistency. They are Yep. It's true. You know what? And this is the thing they might Maybe. Possibly it's a chance. Remember remember hanson that group. Back guys and god. I love heaven. that's when you really rejecting your blackness all blackout you. You got folks getting killed every day. You know nothing shutout handsome so is it ballplayers from last night. Have gone onto glory financially. And they're going off the glory as far as heroes playing football. They're young right and this is a glorious day for some of them and then today today's more graph there's more as it goes on for free week like this two days three days on prince's knowles city. You want to feel good friday. Yeah there are some football players. Look at all his family. He had a corona much. But the vaccine now. I guess nobody cares now about big groups because they just assume everybody's been accident right right and the corona rate has gone down dramatically in this country because of vaccinations fax. We'll talk about that minute. Cine but there are some football players at the end of their career. It goes bad. Yeah is terrible because the nfl uses up people and spits them out. Cineas not much leftover. You have a story right now for us on a feel good friday on how bad you go from jaffa draft dade glory getting this money because cine the top draft guide automatically gets two or three or four million dollars word and then and then like the guy gets a million dollars. They instant millionaires right. Planes and getting just getting dragged didn't even play the game. They played one game yet millionaires. I wouldn't be surprised if we get out the closet announcement from trouble lawrence about five years from now about how he loves. Penis no like the do from the bachelor Trevor lawrence looked like he might have an announcement to stop. Trevor lawrence is doing it up Well let me let you know. There is a story on Are you going to change the camera angle. I don't wanna you know just looking at the wall. But they could be looking at me. Hello actually yes. i have a story regarding that former. Nfl player clyde pete quote unquote hall is apparently feeling spry enough in his leader. Years to be arrested for trying to sell cocaine okay. The eighty two year old hall was arrested in a federal drug sting. He is accused of trying to distribute five kilos of cocaine though. A report from the new york daily news indicates that he actually had seven kilos in his possession. He is accused of arranging the drug deal with a confidential source who has worked with the a for thirteen years in exchange for financial and immigration benefits. Which is very weird like. What do you need immigration benefits for regardless the pair so the two people in front of halls apartment building at nine thirty am early early cocaine deal when hall entered the cooperators vehicle with a large grey bag and it was at that moment that authorities moved in this is it halls first run in with the law. He was sentenced to a twenty year prison term in two thousand and ten for defrauding investors. But he has been on home confinement due to the corona virus. So i guess he was serving about ten eleven years and then coronavirus happen. He's older and he you know. They decided to to to send him home. Which is crazy. Because it's like bro. Your home your home on leave right now. You could just ride this out. It's very upsetting hall was a twelfth. He was a twelve round draft. Pick so that means that he will back. This was back in nineteen sixty. He was a twelfth round draft pick for the giants out of marquette in nineteen sixty. He played one season as an end for the team. In nineteen sixty one in twelve games two starts hall caught two passes for twenty two yard was that was the highlight of his career. I'm assuming he so he wasn't really so he wasn't really people weren't really. It was twelve days talking about was trashed. So but this is the eighty two year old man right. Yeah that used to play football. That's right veneta. He's just out here taking all types chances now. Why couldn't you just chilling. We go next story then. We start to show the stick because we have the draft last night. This is all relevant cindy. I'm not mad at this guy. Eighty two years old who've been released out of jail maybe they think he's a non threat for corona virus right like what is he going to do at eighty and eighty two. I guess what he did at eighty two. He's running around with seven kilos of cocaine. Where did you even get it. Frothy you think that he's a eighty two year old man. I don't think that he's eighty two euro-mandate hang out with eighty two zero people. I wouldn't be.

He's one of those guys. They got this guy figured out now city in football since we don't lose sports i on feel girlfriends q. Super he looks better than.
Receivers to Target in the Late Rounds of your Dynasty Rookie Draft - burst 05
"Was drafted another god. I'm fairly high on From clemson at cal. I'll let you discuss him. I think about what rogers. I'm not nearly as high on rogers as they consis I think a lot of people saw him when he went to green bay. I think everybody's been so ready for the green bay packers to have another wide receiver inserted in the draft. You know and we're just intimidating in anticipating but you know. I really don't think amari rogers profiles is the number two wide receiver in the fact. That rogers is a situation is so up in the air to say the the to say the least you know. I am not projecting broader. You're gonna be there long term and if that's the case you know is jordan love gonna be all support a wide receiver you know. Are we even sure that amari rogers is better than allen. Lazard now is dead fund as the guy that they went out and got in free agency it to be the number to receiver going into last year before he opted out. You know he's back on the roster as well and he's only twenty seven years old. I think people are really forgetting about devin. Funchess to be honest with you You know this is a guy that has already been a top twenty wide receiver in his career. So i think there's a lot more competition in green bay than a lot of people are are are getting Giving them credit for and The roger situation really makes me uneasy. Amaury writers has some talent. I i just don't think he's anything special. I just think that he's at best a middle level starter of the nfl. And i don't see much of a window of him being much higher especially as long as davante adams is on that team. 'cause i just don't see that the target share i mean it's a. It's a team that clearly wants to run the ball as much as possible. So i'm not nearly as how marta riders. I i know a lot of people are people are taking them in mid second rounds now and i think that that's a mistake. I think he was the best of water. She would come out clemson for the tape stuff that i watch. Those are good points. There's a reason as to why. I say fairly high. It's because i have a lot of the same reservation that you do. But and i do. I'm generally concerned about aaron rodgers in the future in green bay with the quarterback situation. But i have to look back at amari rogers talent and what he did in his last year and clemson and what he did was ball out in my opinion. Seventy seven receptions. Thousand twenty yards seven touchdowns. Yes he had. Trevor lawrence thong him. The ball but still in a shortened season are very impressive. Numbers and amari. Rogers is a guy that has pretty much been undervalued this entire process and now all of a sudden he's going green bay people hiding him and i'm not high on him because he's going to green by on more high in him because of the talent and the potential that i see and i do think that he has the potential to be the number two receiver in green bay S a good gig. Because even if aaron rodgers is not there in a long term disturbance excellence head coach matt floor and they still have a quarterback enjoy jordan love and we really don't we haven't seen much from during love so we can't make a lot of assumptions. But he was still you still first round pick in an quarterback the has a lot of potential people were comparing him to patrick mahomes and he. He was more of a quarterback they just needed to be developed. So i think that. I think that there's a good chance that jordan love could turn into a successful quarterback if the packers ended up do and not Having rogers under center. So i think the during the love isn't a terrible option there and lathered and function function all could be a lot number two receiver in that office. But i think long term that amari. Rogers is the better prospect for may so that is why i tend to be a little bit higher on the mar bader's
Is Urban Meyer Taking a Gamble With Tebow?
"The biggest story in the nfl right now. is tim. Tebow and the jacksonville. Jaguars on friday afternoon. The jaguars sign boat to a one year. Nine hundred fifty thousand dollar minimum deal as a tight end. His jersey makes up the top five selling items on the nfl shop dot com store. Now figure that out and to me urban meyer's really running the risk of losing his locker room here because if you talk to people inside the league if you talk to executives and other coaches there's a lot of genuine skepticism over urban meyer becoming. Nfl head coach generally. And there's a sense that it's four more likely that he flames out and never wins a playoff game than it is that he winds up winning a super bowl when this experiment bringing in tim tebow not necessarily even as a quarterback you have trevor lawrence. They're bringing tim tebow into that locker room in two thousand and twenty one and having him sing for his supper is a tight end. There's a belief that meyer runs the chance inside the league of losing his locker room before this season even begins
Initial Betting After the NFL Schedule Release
"News the west gate here in las vegas just came out yesterday with lions every single game all eighteen weeks. You wanna bet on any nfl regular season game. Boom you can thousand dollars. There's a side anatole up at west gate so kudos to them. You know one thing that stood out jacksonville. We always talk about excessive travel. Not good for team. Jacksonville's the only team on the east coast. That is top. Five and travel miles of big part of that is due to go to london. And i also noticed. End of the year gave december january. Jacksonville has three games at sites that could have cold weather in december january. I looked at all. The southern california teams the florida teams in houston. None of them have more than one. So i'm pretty sure. I'm going to be actively looking at against the jaguars fire and ice come late in the year on the road gifts so the questionnaire for me is is that enough to go under on on the window. You know. Trevor lawrence is the big question mark. And i wanna see how he plays so i think i'm going to wait and evaluate not fire six and a half season a win number of pass on that.
Famed Hawaii Quarterback Colt Brennan Dead at Age 37
"Broke this week that took over Hawaii quarterback Colt, Brennan died. I was thirty-seven years old, it broke my heart, man. I loved Colt Brennan. When I was growing up, broke a ton of Records. He put Hawaii football on the map and found out man. It made me so upset. I actually made a mat in franchise mode. On Madden 11, I built around cold and I felt like I gave him the chance. He never really gotten the NFL to have a team believed in him and build around him was very long cathartic for
Why Would Jaguars Sign Tim Tebow?
"We are back final hour. It's been a fun show. We appreciate you being here. A lot of conversation with my Mike smith earlier. We also talked to dennis dodd. Another conversation predictably has been tim. Tebow we've given you a lot of reaction on that in the mike cannon bom from espn former gm jets dolphins. He's been here a couple of times. He had this to say earlier today. On keyshawn jay will and zubin about understanding the signing. I don't like it. I just don't see the upside in this move. He's thirty four years old. He would be a backup. I just don't know of thirty four year old players that can come in and be back place special teams and you're taking away a roster spot from hopefully a young developmental player that could grow with a young nucleus obviously led by trevor lawrence. And to me this is probably through the lens of urban. Meyer saying a decade. And a half ago tim tiba was the most competitive guy i've ever been around and he can help set the culture. If i was in that building what i would be pushing back saying coach. That may be true but in the nfl as you well know. Players needs to be led by players. They believed can take them to where they wanna go and as a backup tight end. I just don't think tim tebow would have that same credibility as he wants dave when he was the starting quarterback in florida. He also questioned whether tibo could even makes a team. I just don't see how he makes the team or urban and he's a really good coach he he's been historically great college but i just don't know he has to earn a spot and he's given a spot. That's gonna cause a big problem because players weren't have a chance to win and again to me just putting on my lens of a general manager and roster construction if you're not a starter in the nfl with only forty six players dressing you have to play special teams so my question. is tim. tibor thirty four years old going to cover cover kicks that remains to be seen. Now if he doesn't earn it does a totally different discussion. But i don't think you could sign him and say hey. He definitely has a spot on this team.
NFL Draft: No Suspense as 3 QBs Dominate Early Picks
"As expected the Jaguars to Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick Lawrence won a national championship as a freshman it was a Heisman Trophy runner up his junior year last season before entering the draft quarterbacks also were taken with the next two picks B. Y. U.'s sacked Wilson went second to the jets and North Dakota state's Trey lance headed to the forty Niners at number three the falcons used a fourth choice deland Florida tight end Kyle Pitts and LSU wideout jamarr chase when fifth to the bangles I'm Dave Ferrie
JPMorgan's Bitcoin Journey
"What's going on guys. It is monday april twenty six and today we're talking about j. p. morgan's bitcoin journey from worse than tulips to not my cup of tea to a new client product first. Let's do the brief. I on the brief today. Sports in crypto are definitely coming together in this cycle a couple of years ago. Nfl offensive tackle russell. Kun made a now famous declaration. Pay me in bitcoin. He currently takes half of his thirteen million dollar salary and btc and half in fiat. Kansas city chiefs. Tight end sean. Culkin is taking it to the next level. And we'll be converting the entirety of his twenty twenty one base salary. Nine hundred and twenty thousand dollars into btc. Culkin is going to convert his fiat to bitcoin. Salary conversion service. This is the same service that russell uses and it means that the paychecks are automatically converted which detaches them from market movements and allows coke in his own words to stay focused on the game for their part. The kansas city chiefs are aware but their contract is still denominated in. Us dollars about the deal. Culkin said quote for me it makes sense to get paid in the hardest form of currency. And it's something that's resistant. Inflationary pressures that. I think is very relevant in this current economic environment. That wasn't the only. Nfl crypto news today as the presumptive number one draft pick from later this week. Trevor lawrence announced a sponsorship deal with block folio the bonus of which will be paid entirely incredible out clearly. There is a mainstreaming momentum. Going on all right next up on the brief w is going on in turkey. I've been keeping you posted on everything happening in turkey but it's just gotten crazier on april sixteenth. The central bank announced that crypto would be banned as a means of payment. Effective april thirtieth. Two days later turkish exchange codex went off line on april eighteenth. The ceo of that company has gone missing and there are claims of massive fraud. Sixty two people with ties to the platform have been detained now for people have been detained as part of an investigation into verbal coin. Which is another turkish exchange. But none of this has stopped. Turkish crypto usage. In fact it's gone up sharply.
Final 2021 NFL Draft Quarterback Rankings: Trevor Lawrence and Then What?
"So guys let's start off with the quarterbacks as this is probably the least eventful group especially because we just let mark handle this position group. Because that is his forte his speciality. We don't even really need to go through the ordering or anything specific with this one as we're going to do it the other position groups but the thing that's worth noting is it. Mark was highly reluctant to really go past mack jones and then after thinking it over he threw in kellyn mind. Davis mills kyle. Trask jamie newman. And that was pretty much it so i think we can all agree here that the quarterback class in in this year's nfl draft isn't exactly very good on the back end. There's a lot of really good talent at the top but as we start to push towards the second and third round like we don't even have a third rounder in this group. There's not really a lot of good options now. It doesn't really tier that way. Joe obviously you have the tran said quote unquote time trevor. Lawrence. and then. There's a lot of debate on who that actual second quarterback would be adjusted sales from ohio. State zack wilson from byu. Mac from alabama. It seems like the jets. Presume that zack wilson from byu. And i mean. There's a lot of rumors that three the san francisco forty niners are really all in on mac jones but we'll find that out next thursday. It's gonna be interesting. I mean outside of the top five quarterbacks in legit all five of them could go for the giants would be ideal for the new york giants. That would be absolutely but outside of those five. It's it's kind of a crap shoot between callum on. I'll trask davis mills. Yeah i actually wasn't surprised to of see the look of pain almost on mark's face when he had to we almost twisted his arm into throwing out his like second and fourth round quarterbacks. This is a very top heavy quarterback draft class and part of that could just be the position. Where if you've got a quarterback who is able to be accommodated starter. He's probably going to be a first rounder and probably a high first
Trevor Lawrence Reaffirms His Dedication to Football
"Controversy that broke out this week. I mean, the kind of stuff that when you really think about it could affect opinions. Apparently, Trevor Laurence doesn't have it ship on his shoulder. Now, um, let's think about the absurdity of this for just a moment, Miss all came from a Sports Illustrated article. In which basically I guess if you really wanted to read into it, which A lot of you sure did. Kind of thought that this questioned the overall passion. For Trevor, Laurence and football and I quote It's not like I need this for my life to be okay. I want to do it because I want to be the best I can be. I want to maximize my potential. Who wouldn't want to You kind of wasted if you know. He added. Whenever asked about Maintaining a healthy attitude without finding extra motivation in every actual or perceived slider. Disrespect. Dr Lawrence said. Hard to explain that because I want people to know that I'm a passionate guy and I'm passionate about what I do, and it's really important to me. But Don't have this huge chip on my shoulder. Don't have this huge and ship that everyone's out to get me and I'm not trying to prove everybody wrong. I just don't have that I can't manufacture that. I don't want to. I think that's unhealthy. To a certain extent. Just always thinking that you've got to prove somebody wrong. You've got to doom or you've got to be better. By the way, when I first read that I kind of thought that's a shot of Baker Mayfield. I'm just being honest. That's the first thing that came to mind because what is my man? What a six always have in Cleveland. He got chip on his shoulder. And it might even be manufactured, but he is always He is always going to play up the fact that he's being disrespected
Trevor Lawrence Responds to Critics
"Want to transition a little bit of nfl because obviously the next big thing on the nfl draft calendar or on the sports counter really is the nfl draft. And it's kind of crazy because there are so many different narratives that are popping up mack. Jones moving updraft boards justin field potentially moving down draft boards. So narratives going on. And so what. I kinda wanna do. That was a new piece of information that came out today. That really leads to an older piece of information from earlier this week that i want your opinion on and so listen. It's draft season. You hear all sorts of crazy stuff but there was a report out a lengthy report from the athletic earlier today which which which interviewed a bunch of anonymous gm's and coaches and stuff like that and so it said in this athletic report. You told me that justin field was going to be better than trevor lawrence and five years. I would say yes that could happen. That was an anonymous. Gm told that to the athletic. And so i thought that quote was kind of interesting in the context of what happened earlier this week with trevor lawrence. I know you and chris touched on it briefly but for the audience. That hasn't fully heard the quotes. I'll read it really quick robin than i want your response but trevor lawrence of course the presumptive number pick. Since the beginning of time no one has ever debated his place as the best player in this draft. He sat down for a pretty lengthy interview with sports illustrated and he said a few different things where he said. It's hard to explain that. Because i want people to know that i'm passionate about what i do and it's really important to me but i don't have the huge chip on my shoulder that everyone's out to get me and i'm trying to prove everybody wrong. I just don't have that. I can't manufacture that. I don't want to and i think that people mistake debt for not being competitive. I think that's unhealthy to certain extent. He's talking about that chip. Just always thinking that you've got to prove somebody wrong. You've got to do more. You've got to be better
"trevor lawrence" Discussed on The Herd with Colin Cowherd
"So for the next five years and i consider everything injuries age whatever interests declining ascending. I think. Trevor lawrence is the best quarterback prospect since andrew lock and i think maybe even a little better than lock in terms of his ability to move played and far more big college games. So joy will ask me. We'll call it traveler. You'll put up young quarterbacks old quarterbacks next five years. Who would i take trevor lawrence or the quarterback chevron lawrence or russell wilson very difficult but as i told you i don't love the current situation with seattle pete carroll russell wilson. This was my hardest choice. I'm gonna go trevor lawrence. This was my hardest choice. I don't think russell wilson will be in seattle in one more year two more years and if he doesn't go there i don't know i love it. Also russell wilson has because of his salary is gonna strap wherever he plays. And i always trust. Seattle's drafting history next five years. I this the first time. I've been like it's not even negative. It's been concerned about russell. Wilson chen or more justin. Herbert Trevor lawrence or justin. Herbert i would go justin. Herbert i think he is a slightly more talented version of trevor lawrence. I think he's stronger. I think he's got a better arm and stronger. Trevor lawrence twenty two years old thirty plus touchdown passes set an nfl record. Also he's got a very good football team around him. We don't know jacksonville is going to get there. And he's also like trevor lawrence not gonna cost you anything for the foreseeable future. His contract is not an issue. Trevor lawrence or does shawn watson. Well this is easier now. Trevor lawrence to sean has had a bumpy off season. And i to be honest both clemson. I think trevor just those better football i really do and i also worry about shawn watson. Playmaking style and his injuries. So that's an easy one for me. Trevor lawrence or kyla murray I would go. Trevor lawrence. And i like murray listen trevor. Six six and two twenty and cuyler. Small and i also think marine one year joy may have a new coach that worries me more division in football pete carroll sean mcvay kyle shanahan. It's a great rushes in that division. Aaron donald and carlos dunlap and what seattle's gotten san francisco and bosa so i would take next five years. I think trevor lawrence in kind of a goofy or more winnable division would flourish trevor lawrence aaron rodgers five years trevor lawrence thirty-seven again. Don't think it's always great with the in the front office. They don't have the ability to get free agents He's had to collarbone injuries. He's got other interests and in the last four. Nfc championship games. He's known for not always the greatest leader. All of a great talent next five years. Trevor lawrence trevor lawrence or josh allen josh allen because he goes josh allen has it all good owner. Gm good coach. And i think after this draft a really good defense. So i'd josh allen bigger stronger better arm and a little faster as a chevra lawrence or lamar jackson. Trevor lawrence a throw the football. Lamar is gonna get expensive here in about a year year and a half i also think that division pittsburgh baltimore cleveland. Cincinnati is loaded. So i would take trevor. Who i think is just a better distributor of the football. Trevor lawrence are matthew stafford..
Raiders make surprise pick in latest Mel Kiper Jr. mock draft
"Mock draft three point. Oh is available on. Espn plus right. Now and here. We go no surprise at the top. Trevor lawrence has been there and we'll be there for the moment and started to the moment. That pig is made. He's going jacksonville. And that's not going to change at number. Two mel projects the jets to stay put and select quarterback zach wilson who would be the team's highest drafted quarterback since they took joe nemeth thousand nine hundred sixty five at number three. We have a trade that panthers would move up from number eight to select justin fields from ohio state carolina getting its quarterback of the future miami. Picking up more prime picks. And the falcons make it four for four to begin the draft selecting their quarterback of the future trae lanes. Should it go this way. It would be the first time ever that quarterbacks go with each of the first four picks in the draft. We take a look at the rest of mel's top ten. After the four consecutive quarterbacks we see some other names you will get to know. Kyle pitch superstar tight end. More pass catchers jamarcus devante smith jail waddell notably absent on this screen. Max jones the fifth quarterback in this first round the star from alabama who mel projects. Going number fifteen to the new england patriots and let's start there because mel we spoke about this the last time you broke this down for us. You had max jones going considerably higher namely number eight overall. Why do you see this drop. Greenwich carolina eight with matt rule had max jones at the senior bowl practices where he was exceptional right. So you figure carolina's stuck at eight. They would look at mack. Jones new england and fifteen is built. Bellichik nick sabin connection and obviously looking at a quarterback to get back to. Maybe the tom brady days. Okay get your that type of quarterback which is what mack jones is his style and the way he goes about his business as a pocket passer so once carolina in my mach three point. Zero was moving up to get justin field. Mack jones next opportunity to come off. The board for me would be new england at fifteen.
Eagles trade Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts
"You. What are your thoughts here on. The carson wentz listening to come and key overpaid underpaid. Who won the tree. There's just so many opinions out there. What's yours i mean my opinion is for carson wentz. This is best case scenario. I mean this time was up in philly. The the philadelphia fans didn't want him and he didn't want the philadelphia eagles anymore so he gets to move on to a place where he wants to go and he never made it public that he wanted to be an indianapolis colts. But this is the best place for him. Is frank reich. A guy that believes in them. You have a very good defense a good run game. Excellent offensive line some young weapons on the outside. But to me this is put up or shut up for carson. Wentz and frank right reich. You're staking your your career on this guy being what he was in two thousand and seventeen when you haven't had him and now if you're carson wentz you're in a perfect situation for yourself to resubmit yourself as one of the top tier quarterbacks in this league and if you don't do it i believe this is his last opportunity as a no brainer starter for any organization ryan. What's your reaction to the eagles having the six pick and potentially targeting a quarterback at the six spot. You know what i think. The eagles would be stupid to be messed up at quarterback again. Right you look at it last year carson. Wentz didn't play well. You drafted a guy in the second round so there were rumblings that people wanted to see him play and then he plays any outplays carson wentz and now you find yourself in this issue. Do you really want the do that. Couldn't read his press statement in his opening. Press conference to start to season the season with a quarterback controversy. And here's the other problem. Let's say. Trevor lawrence and anzac wilson go one two or go one three. And if you're picking where the philadelphia eagles are if you're not in love with the quarterback don't waste your pick. Don't put yourself in another bad position. And listen to you. Look at trae lance you look at justin feels and i know people are going to kind of compare these guys based on color but that's not it. I'm just talking about style of play. We're talking about two quarterbacks that extend plays the same way. that jalen hurts us. Two quarterbacks that can make all the throws but may read things a step through slow if you listen to some of the skull which. I don't believe about justin fields. Which are going to have quarterbacks. That are very similar at at very similar ages competing. And i don't necessarily know if that's the right thing for an organization starting over with the new coach when you have a guy that had some success in jalen hurts. Evaluate him seeing. If he's your quarterback of the future anythi is you don't waste at picking us to get better somewhere else.
Trevor Lawrence to undergo labrum surgery Tuesday on his non-throwing shoulder
"Here from rap sheet on your guy Trevor Laurence. He will have labor, um, surgery on his left shoulder on Tuesday. It's going to be a 5 to 6 months recovery. He will there He is expected to be fined by training camp. Let non throwing shoulder right, non throwing shoulder labor, um, surgery. I mean, you never want to hear labor, um and shoulder and surgery, but Don't non throwing shoulder can't be that huge. Now you do wonder he takes a big hit gets lands on that shoulder. Look, too. I had a lot of injury concerns coming out, and he didn't look great this year. So, yeah, different injury of it, and Trevor Laurence is like 65 to 20. I still think guys that run that he had against Ohio State in the playoff. Not this past year with the beer before, is like up there with the Tommy Frazier run against Florida. Mike Vick Falcons run against the Vikings. The Steve Young run, uh in the playoffs. I think that was against the Vikings. It's just one of the all time great runs travel. I'm just such a Fanboy of Trevor Laurence.
Who is QB2 in 2021 NFL Draft?
"It would have been fully justified and with that we welcome you back as always live from the seaport district appear seventeen brought to you by chase. I green this get up and we have a huge our coming your wine. It starts with this. It's a quarterback sneak mc shays make board is in and wait till you see the first four picks. He's with us live to break down off the top. Then wait a minute. What did russell say. Is he talking about getting sri. Didn't from seattle the wild ride in. Nfl history continues. And then we'll tell you how the shawn watson saga plays out and what it will mean for every team in the nfl. All that and more as we get out with you when this hour which starts right now with todd mcshay post super bowl mock draft. It's available right now on espn plus all it. It's fascinating a number one. That's no big surprise. He's got trevor lawrence going number one to urban meyer and the jaguars. But here's where it gets interesting. He also has quarterbacks going to three and four at two he has the jets taking. Byu's zack wilson who has been rising up. Everybody's draft what he has been be talk of the nfl draft process so far at three overall. He's projecting trade the panthers moving up from eight to take north dakota state's train lance to be their quarterback of the future which leaves ohio states justin field sitting there. Four and mcshea has the falcons taking him fields the second highest total qbr in college football season and then jones sliding down a little bit later to make five quarterbacks in the first round in there he is the man with the mic board. It is mcshea and it's awesome. Let's start with this todd. We all understand. Trevor lawrence going number one. Nothing even to discuss. How firmly planted in. Your mind is zack. Wilson right now as the number two quarterback in this draft. I think very firmly. The first thing i do when the season is over and a govan studied the top quarterbacks. Because i know that's what we're going to talk about for the majority of this process leading up to the draft and after lawrence. There's a little bit of a gap and then at zack wilson. And then there's a gap between gods trey lance from north dakota state and justin feels from ohio state. So i think he is clearly the number two quarterback in this class. The question becomes greenie. Is that the jets taking two or the jets gonna move out and allow a team like a carolina to that number two spot to take him. And that all depends on the domino's in terms of the veteran quarterbacks right now where does shawn watson wind up carson wentz. We know is going to get moved to chicago indianapolis. I think joe douglas. The general manager is kind of waiting. And seeing some of these other quarterbacks go and he's fielding phone calls he's not aggressively making calls but fielding calls to see maybe if they can move sam darnold and if they do exactly since the pick for the jets at number two and if not as i said i think the jets will move outta to and wilson will still wind up being that number number two overall pick in this class. I grew the. I've been saying for a while. I agree with you completely. He'll be number two. The question is who winds up making the peck. Then the other part of this is. I'm old enough to remember a time when we wondered if justin fields might supplant trevor lawrence as the number one draft now all of a sudden these the fourth quarterback off the board. How did that happen. You go back. And study games against indiana northwestern. And then the college football playoff national championship game against alabama. He completed around fifty two percent of throws with five interceptions. Those games in my opinion. You look at it physically. He's big. he's sturdy strong who mobile. He's got a big arm all the traits that you look for. But he likes to see his receivers. Come open and get stuck on that. I read very frequently. So you compare him with trae. Lance and i have identical grades on the to train. Lance didn't play the level of competition. Didn't play as many games as is justin fields but i think he processes the game a little quicker in terms of going from his first into a second and third and seeing the entire field. So it won't surprise me if it feels is third quarterback off the board. But i think they're kind of bunched together in that third tier of quarterbacks behind lawrence wilson and then the other two and then i want to ask you about the guy that you currently have fifth because i'm a regular listener of the first draft podcast and so i'm listening the other day to you and field. Yates and mel kiper talking about what was going on at the senior bowl and everyone is raving about matt jones. Your buddy mel had max jones moving this thing and i believe he has him sort of. I believe he hasn't projected higher than you have in projected. What do you see for mack. Jones as this process goes on the fifth quarterback in the first round. Well i think what's going to happen. He's matt jones is going to benefit from the fact that these four quarterbacks are gonna come off the board quickly and it's probably going to be cut because of trades moving up. I have matt jones going number twelve overall right now in a i had chicago moving up to twelve in san francisco. Moving back to twenty we have to see where carson wentz go. It does go to
Urban Meyer to keep health in mind as new Jacksonville Jaguars coach
"A jacksonville is the best job opening in the nfl. right now. they've got eleven total picks in the upcoming grab first round picks one hundred million dollars in salary cap space. They have the number one pick so all unless unless someone is as a complete and utter fool. that are going to be Drafting trevor lawrence. Whether number one. Pick and trevor lawrence. It's supposed to be a generational great. Come on man come on tomorrow to mark. Among on if sean con come on man is about time you get serious if you can go ahead and get yourself but yourself in the position where hey you know what. We've got a really good thing going here. In terms of the future we covered that bear. And we've got all of this to work with you know. How many times would love to be in that position. Already mentioned the fact in the nba raphael stone in general managers. In general in that league you ask them what would you rather have in terms of rebuilding program. All of these guys who say man. I'm a multiple picks a lot of salary cap space to go ahead and do my thing. Would you get that injectable even with a hard salary cap now. Jacksonville isn't the same as far as free agent destination as a los angeles or the bigger markets. But still you're talking about. The state of florida was no income state tax. You're speaking about ill a situation where you're gonna be working with a generational great quarterback possibly. Hopefully i mean there's a lot of things you have a really really good young talent on that team that a lot because the team one and fifteen but there's there's some ambers within the within the the fire that you can That you can work with. I mean it should be very attractive job for a gm but if a gm any worth of any you know any worth is going to go in there and you're going to be talking about. Yeah i'm going to be in charge of the roster. I mean come on man you know the next bill polian next ron. Woolfe is not going to be like yes. That's pretty good and then since you already hired the couch you gotta make sure that the coach in the general manager president of football operations are together as one as far the philosophy is concerned. And we don't know where myers philosophy because well. He's never coached. He's never coached in the nfl so he might have a philosophy all this kind of stuff. What is it based off of. It can be based on what he did in college because college in the nfl completely different animals. Yeah you might have a philosophy of how you deal with people in college. What when you're dealing with people in college. They're eighteen to twenty two years old when you're going to be different of course and you know this coming central tell you. It's a lot of different dealing with grown men who have mortgages who are building their brands. Who have kids who have other responsibilities lot different way. You work with them. Sure in a college situation. You are of the defacto you are. You are the maker you are the guy you are the when i say jump you answer. How high when i say run through brick wall put your head down and go through that brick wall inc a college. You can get away with that stuff in the. Nfl is not. You're not coach. Employees i mean. This isn't supervisor employees working together. This is a collective understanding in terms of where we're going so yeah you wouldn't have any philosophy and you can have. You can try to find players that are into fit that philosophy but how rigid is that philosophy going to be. If you're urban meyer in college will you can go ahead and you can recruit anybody who you want to. You can text. You can call and you can do all these things and you can go ahead and develop a relationship over the years so you can even have a better understanding it. This young man is going to be able to fit the philosophy that you have in college. You can do that shit and the nfl you can't and the nfl is a business. And if you speaking about philosophy you better think about the philosophy. A win. Because i used to do all that bullshit about. Yeah you know. I bring these young men into the league. And you know these guys are young and some of these come from underprivileged backgrounds and these guys never have a checking account before. These guys don't know how to do this and these guys don't know how to do that so for me as a coach especially being a black coach with these kids coming into the nfl coming in basically as kids even though there are twenty one twenty two years old. I feel it's a responsibility for me to show them the ways of live and the show them how to do things the have them grow and mature of by the time that they retire that they'll be able to have a foundation for them to be successful one. Football is over
Urban Meyer returns to coaching with Jacksonville Jaguars
"Smart there. Don't tip your hand. Their urban meyer. Even though everybody knows it's going to be trevor lawrence. It's the number one overall. Pick going to jacksonville. Here's the thing. Marcus what did you think of some of the things that urban had to stay today especially about adapting. Yeah that's the only thing that mattered to meals Obviously we talked about urban. Meyer never being. Nfl head coach. But how fast you get the respect of these rome in. How fast can you let them know that we all pulling in the same direction but you also want them to have their individual success. I think coaches missed that in the nfl sometimes like those things can be cohesive. They can work together. You can have teen success but also coaches. That's coming into the league. These acknowledge that a lot of these guys want to have individual success because not only does it further your career in the. Nfl helps your family off the field. You get paid when you ball and then when you set up for success so adaptability was amazing for me and then to. I'm not going to get caught up in this whole quarterback who they gonna take i. There's a dark room somewhere in jacksonville where there's a huddle of about thirty to forty people already. Printing a damn treble lowers all is to or submitted so they could put up on the website and sell out in five minutes. That's all that the jacksonville jaguars go sale jerseys like own a serious though. Y'all trouble or is being drafted number one overall. Obviously he checks the boxes with skill level and talent but there is a city ride known. This there is sweets that that need to be sole jerseys. That need to be sold and a shock of excitement around this organization franchise. I don't think anybody can do it. Like trouble lawrenceville.
Meyer makes NFL jump, named Jaguars coach
"Of the Jacksonville Jaguars out with a statement tonight, saying that former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is going to become the next head coach of the Jaguars this coming season. This is ESPN is Adam Schefter. This is a team with the number one overall draft pick with right to draft. Trevor Lawrence. This is a team that has 11 draft picks, thanks to trades that involved Jalen Ramsey in Janek and God way last year. This is a team that has over $100 million in salary cap space in a year in which the cap is expected to go down, and it may be the best buyer's market for free agents that teams have ever had in Jacksonville's got all that room. It comes in a state where there's no taxes. Enticing free agents to make a move to Florida even more so than the ordinarily would everything lined up perfectly in place for Urban Meyer to make the jump.
Alabama's Smith becomes 1st WR to win Heisman in 29 years
"Alabama's divide this myth became the first wide receiver to win the Heisman Trophy twenty nine seasons who presented with the warden of virtual ceremony due to the pandemic Smith has won her five catches a twenty two total touchdowns as a senior heads into the national change of game against Ohio state Monday night it is very important just because the two main reasons I came back was to get my degree answer one another national championship so I've checked one box and just trying to check done now to Louisiana native Smith finished with fourteen forty seven first place votes clinches Trevor Lawrence came in second while Alabama teammate quarterback mac Jones rounded out the top three Smith is the third album a player to win the Heisman also two thousand nine twenty running backs mark Ingram in Derrick Henry Mike Moriarty New York

"Like in the bucket ears but you know the packers have been dominant team. They aaron raw others admitted as such after that game against the panthers on saturday that they're not going to be able to play like they did in the second half of wayne in the postseason. I think there's teams can get hot. The dog of the nfc playoff picture right now. Who knows about tom brady. And the buccaneers. I think anyone you know necessarily wants to face our murray the andre hopkins and the cardinals. The rams have been so up and down that they're highs have been so high that they want at tampa bay. They wanted arizona oppressive few weeks ago. We know the loss against the jets is past sunday. And then we'll see what happens with other teams like seahawks saint so i think the kinda summarize it. Afc chiefs the bills for me in the nfc with the packers. Just because that those two home games lambo will be so tough but don't be surprised if a wildcard team comes out of the afc but the rams get eliminated from the playoffs for losing to the jets. I think i mean we're going to change the bylaws to the playoffs because of that. Well i mean that. Ellison i just again. I'm still having a hard time passing the whole thing. But here's the thing out Awful loss that was an say whatever. The reasons for we could talk about for days. We won't get into that if they if they win in seattle on sunday in week sixteen they will be back in first place in the nfc west. I i can't but you can't get over that loss. I can tell and by the way like i'm not a fan anymore. I research among honestly. Like i'm i am truly disappointed for all my friends right. Who follow the jets went through this whole year. They've gone through decades of this crap. August looking forward to get this guy and it was snatched for them for nothing. Oh and by the way like the team they played they. Nobody should have to endure sixteen. See i got. I got it but still like i'm just telling i just i can't believe it plus redo this whole podcast. So that's the way. That goes along as believe mike danna bouncing maybe the jets will have everything work out for them. The jaguars will go out. And they'll either beat the bears or maybe the colts play for week. Seventeen and maybe the jets will get a lifeline. Are still two weeks old now. you never know. That's why they play the games and then we appreciate your time today. Thank you very much happy holidays. Happy new year to you and your family and appreciate all you've done for me and this podcast this year. Thanks adam same to you. We'll talk to you next year. There is espn analyst grew. Evan kaplan on what is our final podcast episode of the season and as we begin to close the book on twenty twenty look ahead to twenty twenty one thankfully for all of our sake shorter point out. What a difficult year twenty twenty was an all the great people that we lost in twenty twenty now. Every year on new year's eve. I liked to compile a of names of people who lost their lives that year. Just one final time to remember them in the year in which they lost their lives and i keep a running track of an done this for years and the list of names of people who lost their lives in twenty twenty is off the charts and i would dare say there was more sadness. More loss more high-profile loss this year than i would venture say year that can remember maybe ever and it started on new year's day last year when i'm sitting there watching i think it was the rose bowl when espn that david stern had passed away and on the very same day. That david durham passed away. Don larsen the last man to throw a perfect human rights to receive died and the names just kept coming. Sam weiss george perlas and then of course the plane crash that everybody will always remember kobe. Bryant g g bryant. John altobelli now is the time in a moment that everybody will remember where they were when that happened and the death just kept coming chris. Doleman willie wood roger. Kahn more amanda great. Espn espy's producer. James lipton ed. Ingles del schaaf ner curly neal. Tom dempsey bobby. Mitchell alkaline to boris jackson. Hank steinbrenner willie davis. Mike curtis the great football coach. Don shula john teerlinck a friend of mine ratio cod. Well ken riley. Jim kick max turk joe bugle. Croton haselrig regis philbin. Pete hamill howard. Mudd chadwick boseman. That was a brutal one. There will brutal but that one hurt. John thompson tom. Seaver larry wilson gale. Sayers bob gibson whitey ford joe morgan fred dean seed hartman jimmy. You're travis roy. Herb adderley poll for nick. Jake scott diego maradona. Jim hannifin ray perkins lorenzo tele pharaoh. I'm sure i'm leaving off people. But that's a partial list of some of the names that i compiled. I didn't even include a guy like vomit clear the great espn reporter down in atlanta colleague of ours. So many people this year so many great people and so many memorable people who made a difference in our lives and i just wanted to repeat one final time on the way out of twenty twenty how much we remember these people how much we will miss these people. And what a difference they made in all of our lives.

"Rip. It hasn't really worked out what that twenty eighteen class i think is one that you can look at and potentially compared to the twenty twenty twenty twenty one class trevor lawrence certainly expectations wise. Maybe better than any of those guys. But josh allens i three years and lamar jackson have been hard to compare. What so. i think you're gonna have the the overall number in this class. And then you talk about what's going to be with the depth of the glasses and i brought up. Nineteen three another classic. I love when we're talking about oravac history. And they have the overall numbers. The reform quarterbacks baked in the first round in two thousand four but ally manning. Philip rivers ben rothlisberger. All guys who are likely headed to the hall of fame two of those guys have won multiple super bowls in manning and rothlisburger if this twenty twenty one class can accomplish that. Oh four last dated fifteen years. They'll done welcome so my early prediction though. It's interesting. I don't know that the jets will go quarterback at too. I think they would have gone. They absolutely would have done quarterback at one not convinced. They're going to go quarterback at two. But we're gonna see how that plays out run now. Listen we're taping this as we mentioned on monday december twenty first and also going to see how the rest of the regular season plays out into the postseason. I'm just curious as we sit here with week. Fifteen virtually complete how you assess the playoff field. And what you think of the teams that could potentially emerge your oven. Big it has to serve with the defending super bowl champion chiefs antioch. Going out live there. I mean they're thirteen in one. Is we take this. They've want some close games but they've won all those games. Some of them been on the road against tough opponents. I like we saw in week. Fifteen on sunday against the saints have thirty four percent chance to win the super bowl according to.

"Better help dot com slash adam now onto the man who all this conversation has been and will continue to be about. He is expected to be the number one overall pick. He joined us in the days leading up to the game against notre dame when we thought he would be the number one overall pick of the new york jets only to find out that the jets would beat the rams on sunday and now several lawrence is in position to call jacksonville home for years to come will see other. The season plays out what. Here's what trevor lawrence had to say when he joined us last week. Trevor how are you doing this. Is adam schefter. Hi how are you doing well. It's nice to talk with you. I appreciate you taking the time to do this. I guess i should start out and ask you what this whole year has been like for you going through a year. Where fans are limited in the stands cove is the big issue. You get over yourself everybody in the country's gunning for your what is this year been like for you. It's been crazy. I mean just From a mental and i guess psychological standpoint. It's definitely been different than any other year. I think it's kinda shown Just nine personally just as far as college football programs go kinds weeded out. Some of the programs that are either you know not the culture isn't as good or they're still building it up or whatever. I think it's kinda shown wh which schools have done a good job of handling it whether players really To love playing there you see some of the schools that are it's kinda you know. Give them a competitive advantage. If you will this year then you see other schools. Where kinda fell off the wagon. So i think for for us and for me. It's just been trying to stay locked in because obviously this is a crazy time but eventually things are going to get back to normal. And you wanna feel like that. You made the most of the time even though it's been crazy so that's been the biggest thing for me but it's been harder. It's been a lot more distractions. Obviously uncertainty with everything and then The florida state week for example. You prepare all week. I came back after three weeks then. Boom game gets canceled the morning of when we're in florida so just things like that or mentally and physically kind of like draining just because you put little weekend of physical but also mental prep in hours of watching cape and getting ready and then it's just you don't get the chance to to perform so i mean that's that's frustrating but obviously in a time like this. It's kind of expected into to a certain extent but man it's been it's been different different than any your experience. Trevor's been different for everybody everywhere. The nfl level the real world all across the country. Everybody's dealing with it in their own ways right so you're dealing with it in your college football way and you're still riding your story this season but when it's written when you look back at the seasoning you think back to your last year clemson. I presume what were you think of. And what will you remember most about this particular season. i think. Just enjoying enjoying This year here i mean. Obviously it's kind of been stripped down to the basics like you said there's no fans really i mean there's there's a few i guess but very limited and just being able to not being able to go out and do a ton of stuff just being here with with my teammates. My friends that it's just been special you know we've gotten really close this year. We've kind of been through a lot so we've come closer together. But i really just remember is being able to go there and play football. Obviously that's that was endow the beginning of the year so just grateful for that and i think i've grown a lot this year and this off season i felt like i kind of learned how to be a pro in a sense because more responsibility was on all of us on our own because we were in different places having to get get to work in wherever we were. We weren't here. In clinton you know have mandatory workouts every morning. Then you know film and all that stuff so i think that for me. That was a good. You know i got to grow in that way was like this is what i gotta do on my own. I got a really grow up in a sense and and be responsible. Was there any part of you with the season being what it was that thought about opting out there were some players that did that to you. Ever give any consideration to do next forever. I thought about it a little bit. I mean i never really never really got to the point where. I almost decided to do that but i did. You know we went through my mind like okay. What are the pros and cons either way of playing or not playing And then it ultimately came down to just you know. I i love to play football and i love i love clemson and i felt like i wasn't ready to our wasn't ready to move on. Yeah I wanted that that last year that i've expected to have you know i never went into college thinking i'm only gonna play two years of football you know i'm thinking for maybe three but who knows and then to only play too especially the way it ended last year. I really wanted to to get another shot with you. Know friends and teammates here to in the right way. So that was the biggest thing for me was just. I don't think i was ready to leave clemson behind you. You know when. It's like that trevor. do you go through to. This is the last time. I'm going to go to play in this stadium. This is the last time plan front of these fans last home game west. I'm playing with this. Do you have little mental checklist of things that you get to try to savor a little bit more bleeding that it's your last year there. I mean yeah. I think i think you have to right. It's a it's just one of those things if you don't you miss it kinda and then you get to the end and you're like man. I wish i would have..

"Thanks mike and there was the former general manager of the new york jets. Former executive of the miami dolphins a man who understands all the ramifications of having an losing the number one overall pick mike tannenbaum before we're joined by the man who is expected to be the presumptive number one overall pick in the twenty twenty one draft. Trevor lawrence was kind enough to take some time at of his schedule before his team. Beat notre dame on saturday december nineteenth. I a word about a head coach. Mike tannenbaum used to work with rex. Ryan rex is in our sixteen team. War-room fancy football league at espn. We've got morton a hassle bax number people that we work with tedy bruschi and rex and his team were good enough to advance to the playoffs this year. One of eight teams in the round a man who was sitting with rex in the espn war room watching his reaction to his team. Getting blown out by more team and losing he said. Rex was in his words. Despondent yelling at the tv's rex. Ryan was all of us in fantasy football playoffs. Losing his mind over the fact that his team was losing. Its fantasy football match up. And i said to chris. Mortensen inset markman. Our bosses said you gotta ask rex. Is it worse to lose in. The nfl. Playoffs were in the war room. Fancy football playoffs. Anything more would have the gall and the courage to ask the man. He was beating if that was the situation. Now is the question but guess what more center exit tax that said rex. Worst to lose in the nfl playoffs or war room. Asking for friend. And rex's response. And i read because i have a quote war room so i just want you to know that it's not just the average fan who gets immersed in the competition in drama offensive football. It's former a coaches who played themselves. Rex ryan's team lost in the opening round of the fancy football playoffs. He's still trying to recover from it and it's not easy to get over a loss like that all right..

"Take the next highest ranked quarterback in that draft. What do you think. So it's in this sequence first and foremost that we have to nail the evaluation on sam darnold. Nothing else matters. Thirty seven interceptions in crew football twenty two college. Sam darnold turns of all over lot. Now if we're trying to build our case we could say going back to sc. He's had a number of different offensive coordinators at headquarters in a very short amount of time. That was my concern. When i evaluated him coming out a candidate still concerned so we have to see what he does over the last couple of weeks and then before you get to the drafters to really intriguing players to me at the pro level. Marcus mariota jameis winston. They're both young. They both started jamesy seventy games in the nfl and can you clean up the mistakes that he made. That's something that you'll have to be looked at very very carefully. And then there's three other quarterbacks to me that would be an discussion. It would be just justin fields mack. Jones kyle trask so between the two in the nfl and the other three talk about. I would juxtaposed. Sam darnold and those five quarterbacks what do you think it's like the jets organization. Look the players are thrilled. There's a burden of relief not to go down in history but fans are despondent. I was getting text from fans after the game. Angry jets fan deflated jets. Fans frustrate jet. What do you make the whole situation like that. If you're the jets. Yeah it's really a split feeling because the first floor that facilities in florida today to backflips. They're talking about their resiliency. A mental toughness so the players and coaches and the reality is at the conversations are on those coaches offices as they know that most of them won't be there next year so they don't really care they can't come out and say that they don't really care about where that organizations picking extra because they know the reality of businesses in likely all likelihood they will be there and if your ownership in the front office you're very measured pobably what you're saying but it of course behind closed doors. You're devastated that you're not gonna get what could be literally a once in ten or twenty year talent in trevor lawrence and it happened in the most unexpected way you be a good ham team in la which is of all the scenarios we've seen the sheer adam that one to me is the most Least likely to occur this result. I know it's fresh but it seems as as improbable as maddening. As any they've ever had. We've seen a lot of jets games. That have been tough for fans to this. Mike i i i still. I still can't believe it. I gotta be honest. I still can't believe. I'm watching the game and saying this isn't going to happen this. This isn't end and it happened. i cannot believe it. The tackled brandon manda checks punter when my main change history. Because if he doesn't make that tackle late in the fourth quarter the rams when the game i agree with you. That is the tackle that will go down in history. Who would've thought that a punters tackling abilities would cost the jets potentially trevor lawrence. That's howard shapes. That's act why not turn the butter. That is the most jets thing ever. Yeah of all the games could one vegas at home. You could say yeah stack could happen but the rams on road after getting wax actual change your defensive coordinator i just was the most improbable set of circumstances and amd to be fair. The game shouldn't even have been that close. They dominated the rams unbelievable now question. You were with the jets in january of nineteen ninety seven when they went to denver to play in the afc championship game held a ten nothing lead at halftime in denver against john elway box. The second half kickoff and narrowly lost the game. Do you think it's a more devastating. Blow to the new york jets franchise to lose that. Afc championship gaming denver. Or have the punter made to tackle that results in a win. That beats los angeles that potentially cost your franchise. The prospect of many considered to be the best quarterback prospect since andrew walker peyton manning. Oh boy mike greenberg may be better guy to ask that question to but what would might china-bound sake. Well you know for me. I would say honestly the championship game denver. Because here's why way that was. After the ninety eight season alexander was january. Ninety nine but i would say this atlanta upset minnesota earlier the day and we felt like we could be atlanta if we got the super bowl. So i say that kickoff return thirty minutes away from potentially side to win the game but could cost the ultimate super bowl ring because we ugly at halftime we got game. I think we would have beaten the salads. As i said to you and take one of this podcast. The broncos were petrified of plane that fifteen in one vikings team with dante. Culpepper randy moss. Chris carter robert smith. It was an all time team that suffered one of the most surprising upsets in a conference championship game. That i can ever remember. Nobody thought the falcons with dan reeves doing the dirty burke go into minnesota and beat the vikings. It's exactly what happened. And then the winner of that broncos jets january ninety eight. afc championship game was gonna win the super bowl no matter what. And that's exactly what happened. So the jets did lose the super bowl. That day lost the conference championship game. But the opportunity. When this you both mike this is so fresh. Though that that this feels just as deflating and dispiriting and discouraging to jet fans as that. Afc conference championship game loss in denver. Twenty two years ago. Yeah and again when you think about educating late from justin fields or zappala tobacco's those guys. Barring something for seeing orange will be great. He has a chance to be an all time. Great character ability. He checks every box. And there's a steep steep drop off from anybody else so look maybe they'll be the adam schefter hot part three with the jacksonville accepting the chicago bears. Unless that happens to relaunch will be a jaguar and by the way in typical jets fashion. I grew up a jets fan back in the day. But the jets had the chance to get peyton manning and didn't assure him that he would be the number one overall pick and he went back to school and then they had the chance to get trevor lawrence were three games away and had their punter making the tackle on the los angeles rams returned.

"Podcast we'll be joined by the former general manager of the new york jets former executive the miami dolphins mike tannenbaum as he breaks down the situation for the number one overall pick and how jacksonville and the new york jets could and will be impacted going forward and we'll be joined by the presumptive number. One overall pick in the twenty twenty one draft clemson quarterback trevor lawrence as he begins to look ahead to life in the nfl and finally will have espn's analytics in statistical guru. Evan kaplan breakdown. Trevor lawrence the oh coming draft class from twenty twenty one in the quarterbacks in it and who might emerge for the upcoming super bowl for this past season but of course we start with the jets the jaguars and the race for trevor lawrence. Who ever would have thought that the new york jets punter brayden man would be the man that potentially would change history and shift the dynamics of the number one and number two overall picks the jets pulled off the improbable upset as only they can with their punter making a huge tackle a game saving tackle in the fourth quarter. That helped the jets win the game. Lose the war. They lost out to the jacksonville. Jaguars who now move into the number one. Slot in the race for the presumptive number-one pick trevor lawrence. Hard to imagine that the jets did it but they did. And it has implications across the board that we're going to go into with mike tannenbaum and the irony is we had put together a whole episode on this podcast of mike tannenbaum talking about the jets failure to get peyton manning to leave tennessee to come out and become the number one overall pick in the year that the jets at it because the jets would not promise him that he would be the number one. Pick which even to this day is hard to imagine and hard to process and we brought back. Mike tannenbaum after the jets pull the upset of the season in the nfl for tate. To of this podcast to talk about the ramifications of the jets upset but before we get to mike tannenbaum. I wanna tell you about another special. Espn podcast thirty for thirty podcasts. "So great one of the biggest questions swirling around trevor lawrence. All season has been whether or not. He'll enter the two thousand twenty one. Nfl draft where he would of course be the presumptive number. One pick what is he had to say about that decision. Right as the season started he had told college game day on. Espn that the plan was for this to be his final year. And i think that's what we all assumed going into it. And so then that kind of got out there. But then midway through the season he had kind of said well. This has been the plan. But i'm not gonna commit one way or the other woman to say no matter what for sure. I'm leaving school and that's just not something. I'm going to say. His point was. I'm not gonna put myself into that box. I'm not gonna commit to anything he said you guys will in february or january. Remember go to quarter myself like that and it's like that's what people wanna hear them. Today i to the myself opportunities take everything to make a decision. His thing has just been. He's been extremely intentional. About wanting to stay in the moment and enjoy every single minute of twenty twenty which is obviously been a really trying season for so many reasons and so that's been his big thing is let me talk about the nfl draft. And whatever i'm gonna do when that time comes but for now. I'm just going to soak in whatever time i have left and really appreciate the run. That clemson is on. Do you have a sense for who is in trevor lawrence intersex people and who really has his ear as he makes. This decision becomes from a great family. His fiancee obviously is going to be part of that decision. And i get the sense that his best friend on clinton's team is daring rancher. Backup running back. Darren had made a joke a few weeks ago. About how trevor. And maybe mari rogers and travis. Et and he had said something about like. You know those guys are idiots if they come back but Yeah i think it's family and just a couple of really close friends that he knows really well on a super comfortable with obviously clinton's coaches as well different. Nfl fan groups have been campaigning for their teams to intentionally lose in order to get the number one pick and presumably trevor lawrence. What has been. Trevor laurence's reaction to the hashtag tank for trevor campaign. I think he's had some fun with it. I mean trevor is not a guy that gets super wrapped up in social media or whatever but he's also not a robot tried ignored as much as possible. Obviously you're on social media at all. I can't help but see some of it but it's just funny. It's a new team every week. So i'll take any real insight of what's going to happen. I think he has a good sense of humor. And obviously there's no way you can be trevor lawrence and not know what people are saying about you on the internet. But i think he's enjoyed it. I think he's have fun with it. Well last grace. I'm gonna ask you to read the tea leaves here. How does this season end for trevor lawrence clemson and what comes next. I think we're headed down another clemson alabama battle In the national championship. So if it goes trevor's way voicing of another national title trophy. And i think he moves on and starts next. Chapter of his career comes to get past high of state i. Obviously they've had some success doing that in the past but this is what trump is hoping for and here. They are hoping to compete for their third title since two thousand sixteen grace. Thanks so much for joining us. Thanks for having me appreciate it. You can follow grace. "Dot com. I just went outside is feeling like snow. And they're talking about this nor'easter and todd keeps asking me using about every half hour. Do you think it's going to be as bad as what they're saying. I go. I don't know how bad are they saying it and it was like a foot of snow two one in eight to twelve yesterday. Now it's ten to sixteen. They get so excited and passionate. The forecasters a knife. This is their moment and they want to tell you worse than it is as opposed to the other way around. We'll be a lot more upset if they say it's a flurries or an inch until we get ten. Are you coming into the man cave tomorrow. My plan is to work from home too with your permission. Okay so i'll be the only one in cape tomorrow. Well the few guys in the back but as far as the main studio you would probably be staring at the four of us in that on the tv. Screen i left. So we have a nor'easter. Is there a nor easter bunny. Ooh are there more easter eggs. Yes boeing you. Want to put some money down on closest to the whole how many inches of snow at the studio tomorrow. I'd have to do some research. I spent all my time coming up with questions for tex kantor and get nelson. I'm not gonna call jim cantore. But i'll give that some thought here. He's the clemson quarterback trevor lawrence on the program. First time that we've had Trevor on thanks for joining us notre dame coming up this weekend the acc title game by the way. What's the weather like there in clemson little little cold this morning. Don't don't say cold now this cold up here. that's not. What is it like sixty degrees. It's it's probably upper forties this. You're not so bad though warm afternoon. It'll be sixty so could you have played college football and a cold weather climate. I wouldn't have. I wouldn't prefer to but i think i could have done it but i don't know i kind of i like playing in the cold just because we do often but to every week from october on would be would be rough but man..

"That's Trevor Lawrence. COVID positive along with ninety thousand other Americans yesterday. Ninety thousand. Do you remember months ago? When the president of the United States said, it's It's fifteen people soon, going down to zero. We said. magically, it's GONNA Disappear fifteen going down to zero and. Fifteen going up to ninety thousand in. Day. Millions and millions and millions almost a quarter million Americans dead from covert. And for anyone who's been getting particularly susceptible to low quality information it's only ten thousand dead from cove it everyone else either had diabetes or something else also. Yes Dummies listen. That's the point. It is especially dangerous for those with underlying conditions. And we're heading into flu season. It's not GonNa be good. By the, way. Apropos. Of this conversation. Vote. I voted yesterday. I know you can hear me in New York run in. New York. Between Two and three, pm Eastern and everyone's like all. But their lines I went to Madison Square Garden yesterday no lines went zipped in and out MSG. The two Penn Plaza side on seventh avenue US zip right in and out bring an ID. I mean registered to vote there but still. If you are. It's it was quick anyway Trevor Lawrence. Is Not Gonna be able to play against Boston College May, not matter against Boston College which by the Way Boston College produces NFL player Damien Woody. ESPN's very own Damien woody. Went to Boston College. You got some you've got all pros who go to Boston College and Boston. College has some wins this year and they have some well. It's not like a bad wind to get against PC. And yet. Clemson has the kind of defense. I don't know a lot about their backup quarterback but. I understand they have the kind of backup quarterback. Wouldn't surprising by the way member Alabama was the backup quarterback to the back of Tunga follows the backup for Alabama not long ago. Right? You know. at any rate. Clemson. Should be. Boston College Anyway, question is can. At least they're still lever to do so. The question is can Trevor Lawrence get back After just a week hopefully right now he has mild symptoms apparently. Hopefully. His symptoms remain mild and a an easier time with it than many. And hopefully there no lasting effects. He was one of ninety thousand new cases yesterday. He's of course, the front runner for the heisman trophy. He's also the front runner to pick picked number one overall in the twenty twenty, one draft. Coach Dabo. Sweeney. said in a statement Lawrence in isolation and quote doing well with mild symptoms, and hopefully that's still the case. Lawrence said in a statement released on social media quote. The only thing that hurts his missing an opportunity to be with my teammates this weekend and play the game. I love. Lawrence test was taken Wednesday under the rules established by the medical advisory group, any player who tests positive Masai Sleep for at least ten days. After the test before returning to practice assuming they're no longer showing symptoms that it put. Trevor Lawrence at risk of missing. Not Just the Boston College game. But the game against Notre Dame, at Notre Dame. That'd really be ashamed. They've made by the way and. He makes it back for the game I. Hope He is his normal self for that game. It'll. Hopefully he has mild symptoms continued to be mild. He gets over it everything's fine and we're watching Trevor Lawrence play against Notre Dame but that's not really the big issue. Like that's a mild inconvenience. Hopefully, Trevor Lawrence is okay. His teammates are okay and even more importantly. They don't or haven't transmitted the disease to others and they've transmitted it to others and then vulnerable people or people with underlying conditions are now especially vulnerable. Hopefully, that's the case. And listen I understand. Also, a lot of people listen to sports like listen I don't care about these people as human beings. It's not that you don't actually care if you knew them and everything but that's not why you're tuning in to make sure that someone's teammates who you've never met are okay as a as a human being you might be like of course I. Hope Everyone's okay. But that's when I'm listening for is. What does this mean? Competitively for the team I root for work for the big game I wanted to see I. get it. Presuming Trevor Lawrence gets. Back. Healthy. It could cost him the heisman. If. He misses a couple of games it could cost him the heisman. Justin infielders someone else has a remarkable stretch. Straight talk wireless everything for less only at Walmart. Meantime. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan hopes a win over the panthers sparks. And half surge. Second half surge. The Falcons, I feel like. Asking a Felix Unger in odd couple, Oscar Oscar Oscar the Falcons on my God. The Falcons and the charges? WHO's the bigger? Eighty eight say ESPN WHO's the bigger jinxed organization I don't just mean like terrible organization the jets. I mean the T-. The franchise that keeps fielding teams where every time you have a lead, you're still like. I duNno, it's the fill in the blank is at chargers. Or. Is it falcons I know there's reasons to be optimistic with the chargers. Because just I mean Herbert looks like the real deal. But there was optimism reasonably optimistic with rivers. who was the real deal and still the chargers invented ways to lose games. Matt rise been really good here has been great but he's been really good. It's been MVP hunts his team went to the Super Bowl had a big lead. He's put up big numbers. Yes. Yes. Raj. C. C. You just did it. That's why I think. It's the Falcons because they've gone to bigger heights more hope and they've lost the Super Bowl. It's very good headed. You had it. You you were there. I was talking fans watching that game they were celebrating. Bottle Champagne. That's a bigger jinx Max. Well, I see. But by that formula, whoever goes farther is going to be the answer like I know the Falcons the Falcons had enormous lead in the Super Bowl..

"What I'm saying is this steelers defense go shop we all know if you bought Scott what Scott on this morning, we keyshawn and Jay Williams in I mean this brother bought Scott crystallized you what does Brother already. winning. Beautiful beautiful beautiful thing because you plan smash mouth football in it's about what's what Tom did me against you? Let's get it on and so you expect they're going to have their moments but you expect a nail biter you expect you don't spectacular things to take place just smash mouth football rather here's what I'm looking for. Lamar Jackson is the quarterback or the thirty first ranked passing team in the national football. League that is second to last for those of you who don't notice thirty two teams in the National Football League thirty when you thirty, four on you rank thirty one that means only one team in the entire NFL is worse thing you? I'm looking for Lamar Jackson to see what he doesn't this game. You know what? You can win twenty to seventeen win twenty, seven, twenty, four you can win thirty, two, twenty, whatever whatever what I'm saying is he can't have a horrible game he can't look like trash throwing the football. That's all everything else actually expect Ben Rothlisberger have is a moments i. Expect to have other moments where he is not so bright expect both deepest to show up place smashmouth football I expect. James. Caan and the chew away at some yards but he's Levian bell or anything like that. Okay. I expect more Ingram to get his a little bit. I expect Lamar Jackson to run the football effectively because he's so elusive coming out. Of The quarterback position but in the end, it comes down to how does he look throwing the football south you can prevail. This is amazing because if you know like whoever your sports enemy is, right your sports enemies, the people closest to you, whatever it could be your brother, your father, your mother, your says whatever your best friend, your colleague at work. Right it's even if you're rooting for the same team, you'll find something to argue about and whatever they think you'll find. So so thinking about this game night I'm thinking Oh Stephen is going to be all hyperbolic what a big deal. This game is going to be like slowdown but you know what? Because you just under sold it and you're my sports enemy. I gotTa tell you. There's a bigger deal than you're making it out to be. I was prepared to say the. Pump the brakes there's a bigger this raven steelers. Let me tell you something in the NFL right now it is the number one rivalry. I'm a giants fan. The NFC east is trash garbage. There's no rivalry that matters in the NFC. Joe Judge is not doing that bad of a job but the end. I'm. Not. GonNa. Sit here is the the giants rivalry stop it they're meaningless right now the AFC east got no rival relentless if you look throughout. The Bucks and the saints. Are. Natural longtime rival. If you look at the NFL you could say Seattle and San Francisco right now maybe something like that but guys the number one rivalry in America's number one sport at this moment. Is the Ravens and the steelers, the steelers and the Ravens, and the reason is not just because they're battling for supremacy in the AFC north at the moment it's because it also goes back. It's because it's been a great rivalry and it's a great rivalry right now and it's because Lamar Jackson and Ben. Rothlisberger have never faced each other. So I was going to stay here. Hey, Steven, wait a wait a minute Ryan. This is only medium deal, right? Because it's still early in the season and both these teams can still make the playoffs and not let's let's not oversell it but I think you undersold it. This is a big. This game is a big deal compared to what you said. Grind, yeah, this is this is huge. This is huge and the reason is huge because there's back to what it's supposed to be the reason this became a rivalry was because whoever one is game was going to win the north that that wasn't in question but usually the winner of this game had an opportunity to go to the Super Bowl you were. You're going to have an opportunity to be lead. I. Mean there were two years that we played to see who was going to be a super bowl champion or AFC championship representative, and that's what. made it a great rivalry and on the other side, it was the way that the games were played. I made a statement this morning that it never mattered to me who I played the week before the Ravens but it always mattered who I played the week after because I played the week after they were GonNa get a Lesser Ryan Clark they were going to get a lesser Pittsburgh steelers because of the body blows you take the week before because of the intensity of the game. So this is highly important. Here's the other reason that it's more important. For the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson did it is for the Pittsburgh steelers? Lamar. Jackson is not in question that that he can win football games. It's not in question that Lamar Jackson in the Baltimore Ravens are good football team but it is in question can you win meaningful football games? The Kansas City chiefs regular season Football Games for the Baltimore Ravens. The last two years have been meaningful football game Lamar Jackson hasn't one note the divisional playoff against the Tennessee titans last year was a meaningful football game they. Didn't win that the year before the wild card round against the Los Angeles chargers they didn't win neck. So now you're going up against the undefeated rival, the Pittsburgh steelers who have been rothlisburger who have TJ what Budde do pre Cam Hayward all of these stars that we know that we see and that not coming into a game with you you do one thing really well. So they're gonNA, force you to do to other things. So when all this wraps around when we talk on Monday morning, we're GonNa talk about. What Stephen said we are or were we're gonNA talk about Lamar Jackson how did he play? How did this offense look? How did the team sanctum last year that turned him over last year? How did they play against him? This is unfortunately going to be a referendum or an indictment on Lamar Jackson's entire. The MVP won't matter what he's doing. This year won't matter it's GonNa talk we're GonNa talk about Sunday and what that means for. Lamar agree a better in the Baltimore Ravens Future we all agree about that also because if as you said if you if you classify this like put it in a category with the chiefs Games in the playoffs game playoff games and he loses this. That's losing your own six in your most important games and you're basically undefeated every else. But let me say this also about Lamar last week. Pittsburgh, beats Tennessee and in a battle of undefeated and the whole thing is it's like it's like country horrible right? Fastball pitcher fastball hitter Tennessee wants to run Pittsburgh stops the run it will come down to canton he'll beach you almost did. He played well, special means made the difference Lamar. Jackson is Derrick Henry and Tannahill in the same player right? So he is they're going to stop him he he wants to run they're gonNA stop him can he beat them throwing the ball I mean clearly that's what it's GonNa come down to. But the fact that it's going to come down to that makes it a big deal that all on him. Of course, you're going to watch the game. Of course, it's the top rivalry. Of course you're looking at them. But what I'm saying is that the expectation is what it is. That's why it's the robbery that is, for example. You can make an argument. Obviously that's one of the best rivalries in sports. Okay to me when I think about robberies and sports guys I think north. Carolina do you think about Duke Carolina? Because it doesn't matter how much Carolina has stock or duke his or whatever when they go against each other it's. Ninety nine percent of the top, it's a nail biter that's the steelers in the Ravens. So what are we looking for? We know what to expect from that the key person is new guy. Jackson. He'd had this before he about to see something new this weekend and we're GONNA see how he to it. I want him throwing a football. He can run against anybody I wanna see what he does running dealers. Yes. Any quarterback quarterback second run run because you've got back to pass the coverage you know you can get some yards. Bottom line is, can you throw it? That's.

"Showed up over and over again with Kennedy Boa number eighty four in this game. Just. Watch this one example of. Where they just didn't communicate well, you've got Chris L. A. Number four, the linebacker he's got initial coverage, and then he sees the running back. He's got to get into the into the flat passes off to to number three rights and is just too late at that point. It's miscommunication being a step, slow an really a bunch of young players, and in some some areas who are very talented but they're just not playing a level and with the Christmas David that we're used to seeing from a safe and defense. Now. It's GONNA be interesting. He's evolved so much offensively throughout the years and using that year after year and then know that is score points defensively tied I, don't know if you get the same feeling too but I just I don't understand why when one person moves three or four people have to move Obama and it happens consistently. You don't have to. You have to play defense like that. You can work around that but missed tackles. You know an effort. That's something that I. Think he'll stress all week long and let's be honest guys y'all got to realize just because this happened with Ole miss doesn't mean it will happen all year long you think Georgia is gonNa run in there and do it all missed it. You're wrong Georgia doesn't have the personnel to do that Georgia doesn't live in the tempo world. They don't have a tailback plays quarterback corral by the way if is preparing for one court. If I didn't WANNA, prepare for one quarterback in the SEC, it would be him literally that would be. He's so quick. Oh Do. He can break tackles he can run away from speed he can play under duress like he had a great game and he's going to score points and then lane kiffin the ultimate pain in the butt. With shifts in motions and formation, and then tempos. So fast, you can't even lineup so. All things coming together. Don't expect to see that this weekend on Obama's defense verse. Georgia. Now and to your point, you gotta give some credit in this regard and what link Kevin was able to do. Again, strength on strength this weekend, we see Alabama facing that salad Georgia defense luckily, for the tied, their offense seems to be clicking still to come close it head coach Davos we need no stranger to developing NFL quarterback seat Shawn Watson here. What's Davos loves about.

"Including allowing eight more points per game than any other season under Nick Sabin he was asked by the way if the lack of defense in the SCC was a result of the lack of string football. I think for a long time when we were able to. Not Practice, against each other, even than summertime, we couldn't have seven seven. We couldn't do any drills against each other. You know it's much easier to practice. On Air than it is the practice defense on there because you're reacting to something all the time maybe that contributes to it I really don't know we didn't tackle very well in the last game we had missed assignments in tackling probably the two things that were the biggest detriment for us You know in the last game in terms of the way we play defend. And I. Think those are fundamental things that you have to fix I. Think when Player Press They actually can get worse at those things you know you gotta play relaxed and confident comes from very good preparation. That's what we need to do a better job of. I think we all expected offenses to be ahead of defenses at this point given the way things shaped up in the spring but Alabama in particular is having all kinds of trouble and I know you were at that Ole Miss Game what you? Well. First of all, it was a lot of fun to watch, but it was also difficult to watch a Nick Sabin defense play the way they did in by that I mean the the two things he mentioned actually miscommunication and also poor tackling and give lane kiffin a lot of credit all the pre snap motions, the different formations, all of the things that he did and utilizing a mobile quarterback but ultimately, Alabama plays better defense in this, they have to be more disciplined and they couldn't even stop a tight end and the miscommunication showed up over and over again with Kennedy Boa number eighty four in this game. Just. Watch this one example of. Where they just didn't communicate well, you've got Chris L. A. Number four, the linebacker he's got initial coverage, and then he sees the running back. There at travers fiancee's apartment and rumours are starting to pick up steam that some of the biggest most powerful conferences in college football the Big Ten PAC twelve that they're seriously considering, , postponing their fall season, , and this is coming at the end of a week. . When of PAC twelve players have released a statement on the Players Tribune using the Hashtag we are united. . And they've threatened to out fall CAM even opt out of games unless the conference mixed their demands for fair treatment and safety regulations and less the conference addresses concerns over racial justice, , and meanwhile on a nearly parallel track, , you have players the cost, , the country, , trevor, and , fluted tweeting the Hashtag. . We want to wait to express their desire to keep the seasonal live. . So, , in the Sunday night when it feels like college ball is teetering, , it's actually dairying who decides to reach out to Dylan bowls. . One of the players the Pactel's we are United Movement because endearing mine Houston gain. . If we all join together the players in the we are united movement and the players in the we want to play movement that would be undeniably powerful for players who don't have concrete power who don't have a real seat at the table at least not yet their collective voice with the really hard to ignore because truly. . So many of these fires want the same thing they want to play football this fall, , they just want to do it in a safe responsible way. . Dylan Daring, , trevor they get on a three way facetime called a hash all this out to make sure they're all on the same page and that very quickly evolves into a zoom call with a dozen or so some of the biggest names in college football right Justin fields chew behind nausea. . Harris And matter of thirty minutes, , they agree to roll out a list of demands from this new fused Mecca Movement. . It was amazing. . How quickly we all got on the same page put something together I feel like the majority was getting spoken for. . And we were like, Hey, , , we WANNA play. . We want it to be safe but we do to take a watt mandated and universal safety procedures for Covid nineteen and they want to form players association. . And it pretty much the stroke of midnight. . These players, , Tweeden Unison. . But it's trevor naturally whose tweet is hurt the loudest he's re tweeted some fifteen thousand times including one quote tweet from President Donald Trump, , and it's just a few days later actually that someone from the White House reaches out to Amanda Lawrence Trevor Lines mom letting her know that the president would like to get in touch with trevor. . So hold on. . So he has the president of the United States listening to him. . Now let alone all of his peers across college football. . What was that conversation with Donald Trump? ? Like? ? You know I would have loved to be a fly on whatever wall in whichever room that phone call took place the president has said really that trevor just reiterated his desire to play this season but trevor for his part hasn't divulged too much about that phone call. . Conversation it was good I mean we just talked about kind of the whole we talked about that. . We WanNA play like how's it going? ? How's it looking for the season and? ? <hes> president trump was just saying, , yeah, , I think our country needs college football and. . then. Some . small talk. . Yes. . We a little bit about what was going on in my life and vice versa. . So that was pretty much the conversation though trevor is twenty years old the president of the United States wanted to speak to him. . That is remarkable crazy. . No matter which way you cut it. . So. Let's . recap here Halley Grossman because since March Trevor, , Lawrence Age Twenty has faced pressure to help mitigate a global pandemic fight racism save the College football season display a level of political savvy and or gamesmanship that is obviously well beyond his years. . So what else can you possibly be asked to do at this point? ? I mean look putting your stamp of approval which he's done on a list of demands that includes creating players. . Association is a big deal. . That's a radical way to reimagined that amateurism model that governs. . College football right now but I think what this summer has shown is that trevor doesn't plan to quiet down you just a few days ago a whole lot of guys that original zoom call we talked about reconvened because they revealing again from a police shooting of a black man again, , and so in the days after Jacob, , Blake was shot. . Trevor and Darien and Dylan, , and a whole host of others talked once again to hammer out ways to help to draw attention to the issue and hopefully bring change. . Trevor Lawrence football season is starting tomorrow and if all goes according to plan. . He's GonNa win the heisman before becoming the first overall pick in next year's NFL draft teams have been salivating over his talent. . There have been rumors that teams might even want to tank for Trevor Lawrence this season. . So the question really that is, , why is he even putting himself out there like this? ? Why even play the season? ? I mean that is the question, , right? ? We have seen plenty a high profile opt-outs this season jomar chase at Lsu. . Mike Parsons at Penn State today. . Oregon. . These are first round top ten NFL draft guys but no one literally nobody has less to lose by not playing the twenty twenty football season than Trevor Lawrence. . are in a player having a job borough like. . Or I don't know an asteroid hitting the earth, , his Cossacks to go number one overall are safe, , and at the same time, , no one has less to gain by paddling the status quo or shaking up the current system than trevor does this system works just fine for him? ? He is a young white man. . He's a young white quarterback, , and so I asked Amanda, , his mother that seems washing. . Why? ? Why do all this? ? I put himself out there and she said something interesting she said look. . there. . are players out there who do need to even if trevor doesn't and there are people out there for whom the status quo and the current system don't work even if it works for him and he understands that now probably better than he ever has and he just wants to help. . That's really it know told me one of his goals for the senior only meeting because he wanted everyone to understand that unless everyone is good no one is good and trevor, his , best friend took that to heart. . Of the day, , there's so much division in our country. . Just word of some people that WanNa see people together, , WanNa see people love each other and I think that's where a lot of the things I do. . It stems from that just wanted to see people happy together not divided. . With all this pressure now from all of these different places in our country. . Landing Atop. . Trevor Lawrence's shoulders. . What are you personally expect from him when the season starts? ? Because of the ways in which Trevor Lawrence has stepped onto center stage this summer it's almost easy to forget what it is. . That gives him that stage in the first place, , he is extremely good at his job. . Term Lawrence is an excellent quarterback. . Making predictions in two, , thousand, , twenty, hundred, , , probably a fools errand. . But tomorrow, , there's football comes we'll pay wake forest, , and if clemson continues to play if they and the ACC and the big twelve and sec are able to play a full season, , don't be surprised to see Trevor Lawrence back on the national championship stage. . Don't be surprised to see Trevor Lifting the national championship trophy and along the way don't be surprised to see trevor continuing to speak out and perhaps that's one of the safest predictions you can make in twenty twenty. . Life to be reflection of what I say and what I believe I've been thinking about everything that's going on and I think there has been some some moments where I had to say some things because it's just the right thing to do and it's time really is just how I live my life I want it to reflect what I say. . I. . Would always be the same person I want to be consisted. . Eliot Grossman. . Thank you for jumping on stage with. . US. . Thank you so much for having me. . Pablo. .

"That was Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence speaking to College Game Days Tom Rinaldi yesterday about what it's like being the most visible player in college football when so much about the sport and society as a whole is under scrutiny. It's not a role that Lawrence went looking for, but it found him as suddenly fell players the media even the president of the United States are all asking the twenty year old for his thoughts on everything from playing football alternate pandemic to questions of racial inequality. Today USPS Halley. Grossman. Explains how Trevor Lawrence became the center of everything. In the College Football Universe and how he's using the enormous platform he's been given. I'm Pablo Torre. It's Friday. September eleven. This. Is, ESPN. Grossman thank you for joining US ESPN daily. Thank you for having problem. Excited to be here. We're bringing you on today because you have this huge story. On ESPN. Dot Com and it's timely because preseason number one clemson is kicking off their season tomorrow against the wake forest and I think it's safe to say that no player has more is on them this season than the person you profiled junior quarterback trevor. Lawrence. He's currently the favourite to win the heisman trophy. He's also widely expected to be the number one pick in next year's NFL draft. And in any normal football season, he would be under tremendous scrutiny just based on what he does on the field but this is not an ordinary year and you write the following passage. Lawrence's captured us in a way that feels new and a little radical and more than a little paradigm shifting. He is the face of college football. In this turbulent twenty, twenty season. He's the face of all. That is tectonically shifting in the sport this fall. So what did you mean by that? What feels different about trevor is that he is more than just the preeminent player in college football. Is He a Heisman frontrunner? Yes. Is there a pretty good chance? He's going to be playing on the national championship stage for the third time in his career? Absolutely the truly he is more than just the face of the sport. He is also the agent of change his sport. Sees really just jumping into the fray when it comes to the biggest issue surrounding college football this summer, the pandemics, systemic racism amateurism, all those `Isms, right? He is just not shied away from any of them and along the way he's jumped on a phone call with the president of the United. States to really just put an exclamation point on what has been an eventful historic summer. Yeah. We're GONNA dive into each one of those one by one but I want to. Just, pause for a second. It is so much to place on anyone let alone this kid who was twenty years old so disturbing Lawrence understand the magnitude of the scrutiny that he's under. Oh, I think unequivocally the answer is, yes. I had the chance to talk to Darien venture is twenty twenty. So we talked over zoom, but daring is a running back at Clemson and he is one of Trevor's closest friends on the team. They go to Bible study together travelled together basically live at each other's homes even though they're not officially roommates and Darren I talked about that same question what does Trevor Make? Of that scrutiny and daring told me it's more than just trevor being aware of the attention paid to him. He gets that like I said, it's impossible to not get the trevor also understands the responsibility that comes with that attention. Trevor himself said just a few days ago that he doesn't consider himself an activist. He considers himself a person who has a lot of eyes on him at all times I know that. There's a lot of eyes on me. You know critics but also younger generations and people look it up to me I guess in a way I am conscious of that. I WANNA I WANNA, use my platform the right way in and try to impact people not about an activist of any sorts. But I do think I have a responsibility to move quality and to help people I love. So the notion of all of this attention being something that he is articulating embracing thriving. I want to figure out how we got to this point and it seems like to the casual football fan halley. He's always been this kind of anointed golden boy is well. Has It always been this way kind of it has. Trevor Lawrence looks like a generational talent. Laura gets it away. into. He. Broke a whole bunch of Georgia high school records previously set by a guy named Shawn Watson. And then he goes. Goes to Shawn. Watson scully, the cleansing five games into his true freshman season there. So back in two, thousand, eighteen, he takes over as starter. Lawrence. He's out of the game was sixteen for the Tigers, the brush cutters Georgia. I taste college football for Lawrence. And he reads constant the National Championship? Game Against Alabama where he just harv Nick Sabin Defense. Lawrence shutdown failed betty. Tigers force big. Orange. With Iraq. Touchdown. Ever think you'd save. Team. Beaten down like this and a championship game. When he went from being eight college quarterback to feed next rate NFL quarterback and he's been anointed a surefire number one draft pick ever since. So, let's get into the buzzsaw that is twenty twenty because it's been shredding pretty much everything but Trevor Lawrence back in March as the US is becoming this epicenter. Now of a global pandemic, he acted with a particular purpose and a strategy. What did he do? Trevor became the headline. This off season was when he started gofundme campaign, he started it with Marissa Murray who was his girlfriend at the time and is now is fiance they set out to raise funds to offer financial relief for people impacted by the pandemic they posted the campaign on a Monday in late March they race twenty, six, hundred dollars in a matter of hours and then the same. Day they were asked by the Clemson compliance office to take down the fundraiser because of NCWA rules around using players, names, images, likenesses for things like crowdfunding and doesn't go over well at all the idea that a compliance officer at a school what actually think hold on you doing something good may be in violation of NCAA rule is a reason why people give the NCW benefit of the doubt. Against very quickly releases a statement clarifying they hadn't asked trevor or Marissa to take down the fundraiser, and that indeed they were working with schools to be flexible and allow trevor and students like driver to raise money for charity. During the pandemic anybody who follows college football, we'll tell you the NC double. A. Is not necessarily a nimble organization they've offered exemptions in the past, but would they have acted so quickly come out. So publicly for the fundraiser, if doesn't have Trevor Lawrence's name attached I, don't know with this I. If you want to attract attention to something, it doesn't hurt to how Trevor Lawrence his name alongside it. And so. A couple of months later, that Dynamic Trevor Lawrence lending his name to something. To. Bring attention to a cause he cares about. It all speeds up because of the killing of George Floyd. How did Trevor Lawrence Process that? I think to understand how trevor was impacted by George, Floyd's death how.

"By declining his fifth year option. Foles big favorite to get the nod. According to Fox bets FOLES IS AT MINUS ONE thirty three to be the starter in two thousand twenty. Bisky as is at plus two thirty five so foles is looking like he's going to be the starter. Which is I mean. That's that's what we are certainly what I'm expecting. I don't know what necessarily to make of Nick. Foles on probably higher on him than most people I also. I feel feel like we know what by now. We know what both of these guys are. So if Nick foles is what he is and Trubisky as we should ceiling. I would rather go with Nick. Foles in this situation again. Having a quarterback competition to me is that means. You don't really have any faith in either one of these guys. If that's the case I very much believe in saying this guy's starter even if it can change later on in the season at least you you up designated a clear leader. The team knows who they're supposed to be following who they're supposed to be getting their direction from as opposed to well the rest of us are just going to get ready for the season and then they'll figure out let us know who are guy is. I don't like that mentality going into a season fair enough. I get joy with news. That's the news and thanks for stopping by heard lying so Thursday the NFL releases its schedule eight PM Eastern so. We already know who everybody place. You can. Google your favorite team. The teams are there. You know where they plan home or away so it's all there you just don't know the order of it. The order matters. I think one of the things that really unraveled Baker Mayfield was In in year two was the beginning of the season. He faced so many elite defensive coordinators or defenses that just unraveled the entire season. He lost confidence. People lost confidence in him. And you just couldn't they just couldn't get going the placement of when you play Games Matters. I'll give you two teams Cincinnati's very interesting. There's already enormous pressure on jober start immediately not TA's probably a shorten camp start in a great division with the worse roster in the division. That's not debatable. That's a lot of pressure but if you look at the bengals opponents they face similar teams they face the Jaguars who are tanking the giants who are building Washington's rebuilding Miami's rebuilding. Houston's had a noisy off season if they could play those teams earlier September early October. Big Advantage for Joe. Borough what you don't want is that game against Baltimore Philadelphia at Philadelphia at Pittsburgh. I don't even think you WANNA play Cleveland early or Tennessee last year. Cincinnati couldn't stop the run Tennessee early. So Cincinnati schedule is going to be very easy. Does it slowly allow Joe Borough to two and one three in? Oh they can be competitive people now. You get certain momentum we all know. Football's always been about momentum. The big play changes the game. Also the Green Bay Packers Green Bay schedule has got four teams that now have either a new quarterback and renew system they face Carolina new coach new system new quarterback they face the bears. Nick foles probably going to start new QUARTERBACK TAMPA BAY new system for Tom Brady. Indianapolis Philip Rivers if Green Bay could get Carolina Chicago at least once Tampa and Indianapolis earlier than later. Big advantage for green bay because Aaron Rodgers and Matt Leur are now in their second season together so And you could say it. It may only mean one or two wins. That wouldn't have been wins but I'd rather face Brady in September than I would in December it matters so I think the order of it is why I get so freaked out about the first thing. I always look at with NFL schedules. It's always been this way I look at. How many of quarterbacks do you face that are better than yours? So the good news for Joe. Borough is Gra Cincinnati. Schedule isn't loaded with a lot of pro bowl. Quarterbacks Lamar Jackson twice Big Ben Twice Carson. Wentz wants to Shawn Watson wants then. It's old Philip rivers. We don't know. Baker may feel Daniel Jones Gardner Minzhu so that Cincinnati's got the one thing I like Joe Borough if he's as good as everybody claims I don't think he is. I think he's fine. He's a B Plus Prospect. Not an a plus. But they don't face a lot of rigorous pro bowl quarterbacks so if they get a break was scheduling to. They're on that five and a half over under. I probably take the over right now. I say under 'cause I don't think they're going to get the scheduling break. John Middle Cops former. Nfl Scout Friend of mine on the heard podcast network. Why can't Cam get a job? Why wouldn't Jamus fetch much either on the market? We'll talk about that. And Borough Mel Kiper saying Oh did job role would be number. One of Trevor Lawrence came out. I just don't see it. That's not what any. Nfl General Manager Scouting director told ME OVER THE LAST YEAR. Not One even after the lsu hammering clemson be sure to catch live editions of the heard Weekdays at noon eastern nine am Pacific John middlekauff former NFL scout for the Philadelphia Eagles. He has a podcast three out with John. Middlekauff on the heard. Podcast network a buddy of mine and You know we were talking about Just a second ago. The importance of schedules the first thing I look at. Who's your quarterback? And how many quarterbacks will you face probably better than yours? So Joe Borough the the bengals. Ross dingle schedule. There's not a lot of pro bowl quarterbacks there's Carson wentz there's big band layers the Mara couple times and it's a bunch of kind of guys in developing teams but I. I do think schedule matter some for team like Cincinnati. Do you. Well you know. We all love the schedule release. It's really fun. Nfl unlike definitely basketball and even baseball. There's so much turnover every year right. So many teams go worst. I you think a team is going to be good. And then they they go from twelve wins. The seven wins or vice versa. But I think for borough in that division where you play the Ravens who we know are going to be good the steelers won eight games with duck. Hodges and Mason Rudolph. They have an excellent defense. So that's going to be tough. So do you play them early? Play them late. When do they stack up? And even the browns. I mean they then a dumpster fire for years but they do have a lot of talent. I I do think it matters a little bit for a young quarterback where he kind of starts out. Does he get to start out. A couple games at home. It on the road especially this year Colin think about it the OT. As are you know not happening? I know they're doing virtual meetings two hours a day four days a week or whatever but that that is just not the same. I mean listen as or not bear Bryant Double Days but there is a lot of learning and for a quarterback taking in a new offense learning some new teammates. Getting some timing down with guys. He's never played with is really important. And that's just simply not going to take place over the next couple of months. Ob J said he said this is going to be my time in my season. And I look at. Oh bj anything. Okay Cleveland Acquired Hooper. Jarvis Landry is of volume Guy Kevin. Stansky doesn't throw the ball. A ton of some of that may be the directive of Mike Zimmer but kirk cousins was only twenty fourth in pass attempts so I look at Lbj. And I think to myself listen. Happiness is tied expectations. If he had seventy catches I'd be I would actually be a little surprised right. I would tend to agree. It'll be hard for him to have the production from those first couple years from the giants when he was clearly their. Go to guy and you know you know head and shoulders above the rest in this offense you know one thing was the fancy last year Minnesota when Dalvand Cook was healthy and on the field they they slammed it down your throats and this team has multiple running backs but what cousins did have some big moments throughout the year when digs was had his mind right and was playing He had deep several times so I think they use the deep threat in this zone. You know offense Kyle. Shanahan does McVeigh has Kyle did when he was in Atlanta. When you have a speed guy and you're running you can hit some big shots but the volume of targets to me probably will not be there because like you said the tight end. They love the tight ends in this offense and Jarvis Landry is just consistent guy assuming he's healthy you know when the season starts just over the middle. It's an easy target for quarterback. Let's face it Colin coming off a terrible year and just needs to kind of get the train back on the track. John middlekauff joining US former Scout. Done talk show stuff. He's a part of the heard podcast network. He was a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles. jalen hurts for the eagles goes second round little high but I get it I if I think he'll be fine over time. If there a first round you know less we know this that we just had half the first round and get their fifth year option picked up. There's GonNa be a lot of bus in the first round. Are there one or two first round guys that you just don't know if they fit because to me fit is so crucial in this league? Isaiah Simmons that could be a bus. Because I'm not sure what the FIT is right? I call and he's just not a plug and play player. I I get the media you know thought as the next night. I don't know Lawrence Taylor meets Ed read. But he's the guy that all my buddies in the NFL just said when you really studied them. You better have Todd Bowles or bill. Belichick moving him around his defensive coordinator at Clemson makes over two million dollars the highest paid coordinator in the country. Why because he's elite Bread Venables Well Vance Joseph? The last three years has led atrocious defense for two years when he was the head coach in Denver. Unlike when Wade Phillips running the defense fell off and was bad last year in Arizona. I it was. It was really really bad now. Steve Time historically has hit on a lot of you know kind of a versatile players like this Dion Buchanan The Honey Badger have had success with that type of player. Bad Todd Bowles moving those guys around. I don't see it with Vance Joseph and it's not like Cliff Kingsborough can add much Colin. He is not a defensive guy. He's an offensive guy. Only in historically his defense defenses then terrible. So who's WHO's helping? Isaiah films to be put in the right position in Arizona. I'm not disputing his physical attributes because they're special rights. All we can run. You can move all over the place but those guys sometimes need the right coordinated. This is a coaching league. We've seen a lot of talented players. Go to the wrong scheme or the wrong team and not play. Well I got that one a little red flag for sure. I've said what Joe Borough. Yesterday Mel Kiper said He and Trevor Lawrence if they came out in the same class you'd take Joe Borough Slam Dunk and I think we're getting to the point. Now where the hype the mythology of Joe? He could not beat out. J. T. Barrett or join haskins. Trevor Lawrence came in as a kid and essentially they sat the Clemson quarterback who was twelve and to just sat him. Said this kids better when I look at Trevor Lawrence and I talked to my guys in the NFL. They're like. Oh this is like Andrew luck stuff. This is he's got to be a little more command. At the line of scrimmage but it looks like no myths are we over hyping borough now like is it becoming a to me. It feels like pump. The brakes borough. Well I think he just had such a historic year at a just a massive program in a you know I think I. I read a staff the SEC West had more first round picks. Then I think the ACC in the big ten combines so what he did in that conference and and on that side of the conference against the best talent was remarkable and then it from really wants the SEC championship and the in the two playoff games. But we act like Trevor Lawrence has played football. He's he's also played in four playoff games. Now the game against lsu he was he was atrocious. But you know Michael Jordan at bad games right I mean Mickey Mantle struck out. And I'm not saying he's going to be those guys football player but you can have bad games. He's going to have three or starting when it's all said and done. I think Trevor Lawrence would have been in this draft for example the bengals. I know you've talked about. This are such conservative organization. It would still be easy to take Joe Borough but I think if you gave a lot of the younger general managers the more aggressive teams. They would have no problem. And I mean none taken Trevor Lawrence Number One. I still think he is in line to be the top pick but we see something's change you know. I thought SAM DARNOLD was locked to go one and Baker. Mayfield going over them. We'll see how justin fields comes out. But I I say. At worst case scenario coming into this season he the top to pick and I I would still lean. He'll be the number one pick When the draft comes around next your minute left Dak Prescott. What's he supposed to make the Andy Dalton Move? What do you make of it? Why just at Worst Dak Prescott Leverage who who's Jerry Jones being against we James Winston Cam Newton? These there's nowhere for them to go whereas if he rescinded the Franchise Tag. Where's he getting thirty? Five plus million in Andy Dalton had an awful year last year but he's had a lot of success when he was on really good teams. I like Dak Prescott is and I would love him for twenty five million. I just I have a hard time paying thirty five million dollars when he's already proven. He can't really carry the franchises team. So good when you pay a guy that much money. The rams are a good example. You have to get rid of guys at you know next year the following yet..

"Meals on the ground, we were approaching it from the vantage. Point of it's not just meal served its jobs saved, and those are the two metrics that really mattered in this, and they also really mattered to Bank of America. We're so grateful to Bank of America for supporting. Here's something good and for supporting organizations across the country who are on the frontlines addressing medical response capacity food insecurity access to learning and providing support to Bonobo populations. I'm Kim. As a rally listened to hear something good on the iheartradio APP apple, podcasts, or wherever you listen to your favorite shows. So Joe Boroughs a nice quarterback prospect. He's not nearly as talented justin fields or certainly. Trevor Lawrence the Clemson quarterback. But. It's an remarkable to me. That because Joe Berle on a significantly better team. At twenty three years old, he'll be twenty. Four soon beats a twenty year old Trevor Lawrence with an inferior team Clemson. Lsu was a better team they had fifteen guys drafted five in the first round or fourteen guys drafted this year five in the first round. That's insane. And, there's an argument to be made and I don't have a lot of pushback. That Lsu is the best college football team for a season. Ever I don't have a lot of pushback. They beat seven top twenty five teams or Something? I don't have it in front of me, but it's it's. It's hard, argue they beat everybody and often convincingly, but Mel Kiper was on ESPN show this morning. Get up and he's talking about well. Because of that game, you saw Berle's way better than Trevor Lawrence as a prospect avenue see those on the field, and that final game Saint Joe Borough wouldn't have gone number one over Trevor Lawrence Lawrence struggling and the game prior to that against Ohio, state until I can say. Left that football game that game turn so I think no, no question. Joe Borough would have been a lot guaranteed to be the number one pick the bengals. were. Not a single GM I know thinks that not one. Joe Boroughs of fifth year, twenty three year old senior. Who didn't do, anything could not beat out. Jt Barrett, Dwayne Haskins. Couldn't beat out J.. T. Barrett so scout team guy in the League Trevor Lawrence was so good. that. He goes to Clemson The coaching staff says Kelly Bryant your twelve and to last year. Sit down. Nineteen Year olds better. Trevor's. He's twenty now. It night team, he walked into a program that was on fire. That in one a national championship here's Kelly. Bryant goes twelve to the next year. They sat him for a nineteen year old. Highschool not close I saw trevor. Lawrence play Nice school bigger than barreau stronger better arm bigger hands, better athlete everything. This is totally unfair as a freshman Trevor Lawrence Thirty touchdowns for picks. No redshirt year. Just go play. It's not close. To say that Berle beat Trevor Lawrence head-to-head proves anything is Nick foles better than Tom Brady because I. Watch the Super Bowl. What does that prove Larry Bird's team beat Michael Jordan lot so did Isaiah Thomas. His team doesn't prove anything Michael is better. So this. Downgrading Trevor Lawrence because he lost a probably the best college football team ever makes no sense. In fact, there's article today. Joe Borough draws concerns from anonymous NFL general, Manager. He's Alex Smith like according to Mike Sando, Mike's really good. The athletic the GM compared borough to Alex Smith. He said quote. He doesn't have a lot of power. Strengthen his arm at all. He's a one year producer. Love his brain his short accuracy. He's Alex Smith. In fact, burroughs six four to twenty, smith was six four to thirteen. They're even built like I've said boroughs more Tony. Romo, but I think Raimondo Alex Smith. Talent wise pretty darn close I take Romo by an inch. So I, just think it's incredible. That because of a singular game trevor, Lawrence had never lost a football game till Lsu and people say well, you know. He struggled against Ohio State. Against Ohio State Trevor Lawrence threw for two hundred sixty yards to TD's. No picks rushed for one hundred seven yards, and a touchdown and they won. That struggling and that was the best Ohio state team. People said ever people were saying that was the best big ten team ever. So, I think it's incredible. How unfair we are to this kid! He's a really Nice quarterback prospect. Trevor Lawrence. is almost four years younger than him. He's a kid..
