"trevor fitzroy" Discussed on My Marvelous Year

"They've come back in time from the future to stop a bunch of prisoner like a prison outbreak. That's happened and the last prisoner that they need to To kill like they're killing. All these prisoners is like you said. Trevor fitzroy and the runs into the x men. And there's this whole interesting thing. Where like bishop talks about the x. Men as if they are you know. Like god's night like he revered tones like if interesting it's like i don't know about much is the god like the founding fathers. Yeah totally yeah not like literal gods but just like you know. They are mythological figures in his mind But like to the point where they literally like you can see a bunch of the slang that they use is based on lake. he'll say like by cyclops right like instead of like. Yeah i god and then like someone else talks about balancing somewhere which like maybe a night. Crawler wink right. Like yeah. he's like why better banff outta here Anyway there's there's a bunch of stuff like that that works so well compared to the way that remember la rob life l. trying to like write his own slang for his characters. Like this at least feels grounded in like. Oh there's a reason for this and you can kind of pick up on. Why even if it is maybe a little like indulgent. And maybe you could feel a little fantasy. i don't know Oh see. But i i guess you know i am a fan right. I'm a fan of so. I actually really unlike the rendition of bishop who is very much grounded and rooted in x. Men history like that makes him in a way. It feels like you know. Oh he's a fan of the x. Men to even though that's not really the world he's coming from it's more just that his his history so they are these revered figures in newton dumb because otherwise you know bishop. Yeah like you're saying. I mean he's this. He's time cop from the future he comes back to apprehend slash murderer prisoners and An kinda gets trapped here with the accident but the one and then one of the biggest hooks of bishop coming back is with his knowledge of the future. He knows the x. Men will be betrayed right. And that's big him. Sort of with sort of thread here for bishop. He knows one of the expert betray and he doesn't quite know who he knows. There was a witness. So you get some. And it's pretty clearly telegraph bowl through here. And then as we get to x. Men number eight especially were bishops like. Oh yeah. it's it's gambit i think. Gambit is the trader so he's really got it out for goodell rumailah byu But yeah i mean all this. I think in terms of building characterization of who bishop is i think there's a danger here of like you just said rabbi feld louise simonson. They introduced cable..

"I like about this portion as bishop is deciding what the kids should do. He mentioned explicitly that a lot of newton's see the accessory as the newer version of the hound program of the mutants. that were used by the human oppressors to track down and capture other mutants. And that makes a lot of sense. I mean these are mutants. Who are going after their own in a sense. And you know in the real gray slash dreamworld world the line between doing the right thing doing the wrong thing obeying the law breaking the law. That can get kind of fuzzy. So i liked it. It's addressed i kind of wish. It were addressed more but it is there and that's cool. I wish addressed less one-sidedly because what we get consistently to the series is yes mutants. Think of the excess. He has hounds but they're wrong. Yeah pretty much They weren't much less spiky outfits than hounds for starts and they have one more mullets. I mean rachel. Summers had a mullet. But not until she was done being around and way way way. More guns the x. se isn't just a police force. They are explicitly a paramilitary organization. Yeah i mean. Part of that is just their deal in part of it is is the mid nineties pretty much. Everybody is carrying around suitcase. Sized guns just to go grocery shopping. it's kind of depressing that too now. The excess he also knows how to indoctrinate kids right so no sooner had they joined up then chard and lucas get their own summary of how the excess he came to be from one of their commanding officers. You are the future of our people and looking at you like this does bode well for our people. It is a lot to make something of you all i. You must learn something of what we are without knowledge of the past. There is no hope for the future. Xavier taught us. This you know of the concentration camps were homo superior of how each mutant was tattooed over the right eye with an m so that even if one escaped the camp he could easily be identified. You've all heard of the summers rebellion. In which i was honored to serve you. Know how the alliance of humans and mutants brought low the hated sentinels those robots designed to detect killer immobilize mutants or anyone whose talents made them feared and hated by normal humans. The sentinels assumed dictatorial powers. All beings until summers came in fortune alliance between human and mutant to bring them down collasped almost as soon as the rebellion succeeded. That alliance started to break apart especially since summers was no longer there to keep it going. Our people wanted to move out of the camps and make better lives but over and over. They were met with hostility driven away. At this point you get the founding of the axioms and it was agreed that mutants would found a group to police their own and protect humans mutants lake that being of course the access c. and so we came into being the excess exhibitors security enforcers mutant veterans came together from all over to keep the dream alive and the tattoo. The that was once our shame was made into a badge of honor. You cadets have to earn your m.'s. When you graduate if you graduate you'll be given your tattoo marking you. Once and for all time as a member of the s. e. so that the fucked up i mean i don't know it's it's weird in the That simple certainly marked a great deal of pain and suffering and death. But i think there's also something to be said for reclaiming it you know yet but it's also a symbol that still worn by people who aren't members of the ecstasy so having be the primary identifier for members of of the xy seems like a really bad idea logistically as well yeah and we do know that characters is young as bishop and bishop have their ams that they got in the camps and i guess in the context of the story. They really seem to have no complaints about it. But it's an interesting choice. I think if nothing else it just sort of retroactively makes the fact that all the excess t. members we've seen so far have m.'s. Make sense it would make more sense if there if it were just a generational thing. Yeah yeah probably true. Well we also meet hacky or apparently had kaci in the original greek pronunciation. I don't know how she says it. Whose founders oddly placed apostrophe to which which further inflates the matter. It's true but she's the founder of the access c. and jay. Did you initially think she was jubilee. Because she kind of looks a hell of a lot late generation x. era jubilee just paler. I did not. My initial thought was domino although she lacks the black marking because her skin is colored dead white. It is yeah but her outfit is basically a version of the access a uniform but with a red base in gold accents and that looks surprisingly like the gen-x uniform and between that the dangling earrings she's wearing and the fact that bishop when he came to the present referred to jubilee as the last man kind of wondered and i was a little sad that that wasn't the case that is a good a good question an idea yet. It's unfortunate that you don't really see that played out. Alas now among lucas and shards fellow cadets as young asshole by the name of fitzroy his name will be con to have been trevor fitzroy. But it's just fitzroy here and specifically that he was it specific he was named fitzroy. Because that was that the surname commonly taken by the illegitimate sons of of of kings. Okay so kinda like snow. Where sandra whatever in a song of ice and fire. Yes very very much like that. Now he's going to be a low key nuisance who ends up dating chard briefly but what. I'm wondering looking at. This is how far what we've got here with him. As a young ecstasy cadet contradicts backstory is shown later factor when he's an active member of the summers rebellion. Yeah no that's a really good question. Because here he'd be a little young for that to make any sense so what. I'm wondering is whether you can rationalize that away by saying that the fitzroy who was part of the summers rebellion time traveled. You know that is kind of power so yeah let's go with it on the other hand he'd have to have done it during the very brief gap between his decision to leave the exit e and his criminal. Life because summers rebellion fitzroy distinctly. A good guy like he is on the side of the heroes. He is a hero and he doesn't go evil until he dies and then comes back to life right right. Because layla miller's power involves resurrecting people but they have no soul exactly so he would have had to have done all of that in this very very brief window of time passing in his primary timeline and then comeback evil.

"Damn j i still cannot believe bishop's spent so long trying to murderous child in his dubious defense miles. He didn't think hope would basically bring about an apocalypse but he basically brought about multiple apocalypse is trying to get to hope. I did say it was dubious. What eventually made him back off. Anyway i remember that cable shunted him way into the future. That just made a mad. Ultimately bishop came around on his own. Okay but what do you do. After spending literal millennia. Trying to kill a kid well and bishops case you had back to the present risky but in character and get possessed by the demon what i'm jay and milestone six and we are here to explain the x. men because it's about time someone did welcome to episode three hundred forty jand miles explain the x. Men where we walk you through the inside the house and the records of comics greatest superhero soap opera and welcome to the future. Which is the past for some characters. Well we'll get to that The point is today. we're gonna be talking about the x. s. e. miniseries which is not only the future but the future as remembered as the past from the present which is actually in the past. Now since we're recording it in what's technically future obviously so now that you've got all that clear listeners. let's give some background on bishop and sort of what the deal is with his time line because we're going to be delving pretty heavily into that today right so remember. David future past Aka earth eight eleven. That was the future time line. Where mutant hunting robotic sentinels took over the world and mutants were imprisoned in concentration camps branching off from that timeline is earth eleven ninety one a slightly farther future. Timeline takes place chronologically right after something. Similar to days of future passed in earth eleven. ninety one's still pretty near but somewhat less near future mutants and humans rose up together after the sentinel started to attack and oppress pretty much. Everybody the name of that uprising was the summers rebellion Who led that one. I can't possibly imagine probably vulcan. Havoc was too busy working on his dissertation. God we're never gonna stop giving having shit for that are we. Were not not until he finishes it. I love the idea though that that the the rebellion against the sentinels was led by cyclops. Because he's got such a great track record with fighting sentinels You using the danger room while his depowered against knows in X. men first class and then of course my favorite silver age story where he convinces a bunch of sense to go. Fight the sun. Yeah i think the summers rebellion was a little less straightforward. I get the impression a lot of people died but still well-done cyclops and now all of those bills have gone to fight the sun Well society rebuilt itself mutants formed a police force to go after mutant criminals kind of the comics code authority but with more laser rifles like the comics authority but likewise governed by the comics code authority because it exists only in comic books. This is turning into the time. Travel thing all over again will anyway. This group was the access e the executive security enforcers named after the now mythical charles xavier originally named the executor school enforces but they realized early on that sounded less like a special police force. More like hall monitors. The xy was a group of largely mullet future cops clad in outfits shockingly similar to gary coleman's train conductor outfit from an old episode of the electric company. One member of the excess. He was lucas bishop. Who followed time. Traveling mutant criminal named trevor fitzroy through a portal. to the present day of the main marvel universe earth. Six one six now present day is of course early nineties.

"Right there's so much you could do with the parallel and then having having to young teams who were are trying to stop this yeah although it's harder to do though just because the hell ian scott damn near annihilated by fitzroy there only a few alliens laugh so it would feel even remotely parallel i mean there's three that's not too bad that you were in the new mutants but and i'm not talking about making the parallel now i'm talking about parallels to what they were before at least cemetry yeah yeah that would have been fun is well but i think even without that even with it being basically just a big punch up it's a pretty good big punch up well child's play very much side you've got questions and anonymous listener asks on tumbler how often do you reader original sin issue comics with ads some letters to the editor and curious about your favorite ads if you had any so i haven't really read much of that since i was a kid back in the nineties and part of that is it letters columns are rarities days although i do still always ridi scroll letters columns because they're invariably adorable and a the letters columns when napier are pretty fun as well but i do remember this one specific ad kept showing up right around in this era it wasn't adam for an x men game you played paid over the solar like not a phone app because that totally wasn't a thing back in the nineties but like you would call a certain number and you will hear a story narrated and you would have the option to have a wolverine iceman cyclops urbana user powers in different scenes by pressing indifferent cheese on your phones keypad and there were some kind of a big prize if you were able to complete this we actually had some listeners talking about this on line awhile back a apparently you had hit the phones keys at the exact right time earl you were screwed rude and would have to call back and this is like a buck seventy five start and then seventy five cents a minute which if you were a kid back in the early to mid nineties is eight ton of money so i always really wants to play it but i always knew that i would get in a town of trouble with my parents if i ever tried to so it never happened on also from older comics i do remember all the full page ads about how you sold the newspaper great if you could earn all these amazing prizes invariably would be damned you're worthless next two hours and hours and hours hours of work you put into this whole thing see i love that taken out of context because i don't remember seeing those ads and so i'm just imagining ads selling grit yeah you know just figured out between your couch cushions herself in somebody's gonna want it will give you bike i i i thought through the said i i do not have a favorite ad i started reading these in quick succession but i wasn't paying a lot of attention to these ads now reed mostly mostly digitally and alas modern ads just are not what they used to be is true honestly i think the further back you go the more fun v ads are because there's bonkers back in the day although get that with normal for back then normal for back or hypnosis kitchen karate lessons normal back in the day an additional anonymous listener or possibly the same anonymous listener asks on tumbler recently i've noticed a bunch of characters like terro of alliens pyro fabian cortez in a blazing and trevor fitzroy have been coming back to life with no real explanation for why they are dead anymore and then feedback and deliberate without really doing anything what's you're stance on this should all comic book resurrections be explained and should a character be brought back from the dead if they're not actually going to be plot relevant afterwards so in response to you're three questions respectively it's complicated no end sometimes i'm recording right which you and i already forgot which question is which a turtle elaborate all right so i'm gonna start with the second question which is should all comic book resurrections be explained andy answer i think is no comic book resurrections when their story relevant when significant the characters coming comeback should absolutely be explained i think ultimately that slavish attention continuity when it comes to minor character death isn't always a useful thing.

"Like right now we've also done a lot of other other shows and had lots of other guest possibly i tried to those on social media 'em yeah we should try to talk about those on the show where these days in the future i think we've been pretty good about that when we could always be better we'd be perfect could we approaching i'm not sure if that's a that's a road i'm entirely comfortable going down but if we can settle for a lot of fun weekend at least hit x force level indeed and speaking of hey it's exports episode well it's half half exports episode and half a new warriors episode because famous caters to books about punchy teenagers are crossing over in the story that were covering right now i don't feel a little bit weird about crossovers when the same writer on both books when it's a crossover between two books by the same writer in this case though i have to say it works i mean the writing is very very smooth firm one chapter to another continuity works characters are speaking very much in their own voices and the two books remain very totally different yeah it's actually quite effective even if not a whole lot happens but a whole lot has happened in the past and maybe we should talk about that before we get started right so x force do you foresee us ex team it used to be professor access youngest students the new mutants a few of those new mutants are still on x force candle sam guthrie food nine vulnerable when blasting richter coolio rector her with earthquake powers and outstanding fashion boom boom or boomer tabitha smith to create both time bombs an sarcasm i know she's going by boomer i'm gonna call her boom boom forever she does eventually go back to boom boom as a name so i feel more justified in that then i would otherwise it's just a really great could name we forgot to mention fashionable among her skills i believe that she's the one who designed this generation of x forces uniforms she did and she seems to like zippers much so you know more a plus the team has some non new mutants on it starting with cable the team is griddle cyborg leader and big fan of big guns cable has recently been confirmed to be nathan christopher summers but with cable as his co leader or possibly second in command or possibly commander varies but definitely bath time buddy is dominant win you know thurman the teams lucky sharpshooter end designated wind mom we also have theresa work siren banshee daughter who inherited banji sonic screaming an stripy underarm cape thing that's how you fly with this on extreme districts are important to i assume finally we've got shatter sorrow very pointy extra dimensional television stars straight from the mojo verse now ex forces last member the super strong james proud star warpath used to be on the new mutants rival team emma frost halley ends most of these other alliens were killed a few years back by fitzroy but if you have survived like for example angelica jones fire star but she thought at x force she's on the new warriors these are non newton focused team which contained a number of reasons but anyway they're twenty something do gutters and they are also notably written by stadium this now there is another group of young people running around causing trouble in these comics that is these upstarts a quartet rich end murderous murderous young people who were competing in a mutant hunting murder game run body on me pat games master these guys are displaced time traveling murder trevor fitzroy nihilistic energy something something or c n ablaze great big jerk grade and creed and nobody shaw who as we all know is the best.

"Why are they rollerblading as RAD as rollerblading is when they could be jet pack blading that sounds like something you would do a ninety s comics, right? See based on the people who have them. I assume that the acts are wildly unreliable okay Christie. Christie. Prototypes. Okay. Gotcha. So you only have people like, you know, Nick, fury or Nighthawk or other people with sort of if he judgment who are willing to strap one of those things onto their back. Yeah. Exactly. Okay. I feel like we digressed. But we stand by it. Another anonymous listener asks on tumbler, I've been washing leverage because of you all and who is the chaos of the X men universe. So I can hate them the right amount. It's fitz. Roy, right. It is not fits Ryan, honest. I'm sorry. I hate to break this to you. But the Leverett the character in the marvel universe. Who is to the X men as chaos is to team leverage is Quentin quire. It's unsightly. It's absolutely quit lawyer that said if you wanna hate Trevor Fitzroy, we give you a fischel podcast permission. He is such a jerk. Right. The worst. Let's see asthma fan girl. Asks tumbler, some of my favorite episodes are the ones where you talk talk. Not very well known X men stories PD in the beasts, the iceman mini tattoo, tales, excellent, masquerades, etc. So I always wondered how do you get to find those what factors into choosing them to talk about an episode? So we find them a few different ways one way that we found actually quite a few things is comics back issues dot com. Complete X men reading order, which is a resource we rely on a lot for choosing you know, how to interlaced are episodes from different books. But it also tells us about things we didn't really know existed. Like, I'm pretty sure that's where we found the original iceman miniseries. Some things were comics that like I r- we or you had been aware of before me just never got around to reading like I remember seeing ads in old eighties comics for the beating the beast mini series. I just didn't have it. My father had never bought it. I couldn't find back issues anywhere. And so the podcast was a good opportunity to finally dig into that glorious bananas story or the exponent Texas State fair is kind of legendary at this point, right? As for the X men, masquerade tattooed Hale's book listeners sent us that it was nice, and our friend max waiting for the train. Welcome story. Brooks than us the days of future past picture of academy pation, so yeah, we find those. Via a ton of different avenues. Some of them are from friends of Murphy listeners, some of them are from our collections. Some of them are from just putting unlikely phrases into Google and going to the results, which I end up doing a lot of that is a risky, but ultimately rewarding method trans Kinney asks would Mattie prior and Laura Kenny get along. I don't think they would I feel bad about this. I feel like they would connect. And and I'm thinking of them as written in their canon six six versions, I think they would connect..
