"See the disney bundle dot com for details so the one thing that's been popping up a lot in giant circles that keeps being talked about is the fact that sam beal quarterback who many expected to be a cut in this group ends up making the final fifty three men roster and he also can be a player who is cycled out for. Somebody wants the We have some of these. Hurt defenders back. In available aaron robinson's example. Who's who's put on the pup list. But sam bill is going to be a part of this this final roster despite being relatively disappointing early on in his career with the giants so that is probably one of the more shocking moves here out of any of the ones that we're going to discuss on the show that sam bill is returning. Yeah looking at the roster. As a whole i think i can see the calculus at play. Aaron robinson is going on the pup list. He never came off during preseason so he is going to be unavailable for the first six weeks of the season. So the giants need depth in their defensive secondary and particularly at the cornerback position which that is basically sam bills ticket onto the roster especially with josh jackson dealing with an injury himself adore jackson dealing with an injury they were. They got very thin. They're very quickly. The other thing to take a look at is that casey kreider there long snapper got cut. Now we've already had reports that the giants have said we are resigning. You don't worry about it. What i think is going to happen and may have already happened by the time. This airs is that aaron robinson is going to get put on the pup list that will free up a roster spot in. Casey kreider is going to get resigned to that spot now. I think this is basically a six week. Audition for sam beal. He has six to prove to the giants that he is worth keeping for the rest of the season. Otherwise i think he is. The cut when aaron robinson is rated. Come off the pup list in six or eight weeks so i just. I'm just going to put that down. Now is the way. I think this all works out. That sounds like it's going to be the most likely outcome on the reason. Why sam bill sticking around. Is that once you end up. Getting back Eh robinson you'll be completely fine and then you're going to get rid of sam bill that if we're just kind of going off something here like you said. I think that ultimately based on some some quick math that makes the most sense in reference to math here trying to really figure out how they ended up cutting to the pass rushers that they signed in free agency who we had some relative decent expectations for don't make the final roster odor ningbo who. We talked pretty highly signs a pretty cheap deal. We thought that maybe he ends up being a good rotational player. I guess these -ocial ari draft selection kind of pushes him down in the order of things and then ryan anderson who recently got suspended for six games for pd's that one's a little bit more blatantly obvious that they caught him because they don't want to sit around and wait for a guy who's been relatively mediocre to come back to this roster so both these guys that they signed recently are not going to be a part of this roster. Yeah definitely say odin. He mows the more surprising cut of the two. I think this is another one. That comes down to special teams. A he wasn't a perfect fit for the defense. He's he really looked a lot more comfortable as a hand in dirt classic defensive end and that was how he had his best success with the minnesota vikings so i think the giants in a way kind of did him a favor and let let him go to a team where he would be able to play his best position most often and it kinda sucks that he wasn't they weren't able to put him in a position to us what he uses skillset most efficiently. But that's just kind of how it is. They thought he might have a skill set that would transition to their defense and it turned out not as well as they might have hoped but then anderson like you said that one makes sense but the other thing with owning bell is. He didn't play a whole hell of auto special teams yet. He was on there for a few snaps a game but not a whole lot. Trent harris however was a guy a lot of people getting cut. But i just thinking suspicion he was going to make the roster and he did and it was mostly because he was another guy who is on just about every special teams snap and he might not be the same pass. Rusher owning boas and we'll say inconsistent at setting an edge in run defense. But i saw him place pretty well on special teams and i keep saying this is a a football team with three special teams coordinators. Got joe judge tom quinn and mcluhan out there. So they have a real heavy emphasis on special teams play. And if you're not an every down starter you have to be able to contribute on special teams. Yeah that's always going to be a big priority here. So if he if the expectation from him is that he needs to be a guy that's getting into the starting rotation and he doesn't even work his way into the starting rotation they're better off keeping some guys at some different positions that are going to be primarily Special teams players. So that is always going to be a priority as you said.

"Those flashes that far hash throat dante pettis. Some of those third down throws where he hits people hands. And they end up dropping football obviously touchdown pass and that drive in general to king smith cap off the first half so very nice wrote a cadence me. Smith allowed cadence smith to use his body jump. High point. the ball comedown four touchdown a slot fate. We wanna see more slot as we think of an ingram could be a pretty solid piece as a receiving weapon on the slot fades. But we don't see them enough. Is that because jason garrett playcalling or because they have to keep six-man protection packages in. They don't have time to really attack defense vertically. i think it's probably a combination of a few different things. But great play by kane smith. We hope evan ingram is okay. We hoped area slayton is okay because they were both dinged up which is definitely something that we will be monitoring this week over there at big blue view but we just got to hope. This offense of line plays better than what we saw and they were just on an extreme off day and andrew. Thomas i mean the first hackel out of the big four taken and we're in year two now so it's none of those rookie excuses that we had yes. He's still young player. This third offensive line coach that can create some uncertainty for sure but excuses are going to get old if we see the similar mistakes where he makes mistake and then he doesn't correct in. That's something that he didn't your one and that's something that he did in this preseason loss so that's definitely are couple things that i really wanted to touch on and i'm sure at valentine myself christian joe will be going over this a little bit more extensively but as for the defense i mean defense was able to get four sacks willie henry. Lorenzo carter dexter lawrence trent harris all getting in there. A lot of them were covered sachs. We saw a lot of man coverage which we expect we saw some interesting blitz packages five men pressure packages blake martinez used a gap plug. Blitz we saw james bradberry blitz boundary cornerback blitz saw nickel blitz so. Patrick graham was employing his arsenal in this in this year or innocent third preseason game against a year one quarterback against a rookie quarterback in mack jones. So i feel that the defense you could see some trap coverage on the back end from what you can see from the broadcast angle. Logan ryan kind of shooting down on third down bathing mack jones and or cam. Newton was the quarterback at that time into kind of throwing to the number two receiver. Hopefully getting a robber situation. Where logan ryan could intercepted the pass. But that didn't end up happening but just employing. Those coverages is excellent way to create turnovers which will put the offense in a better situation. So the offense doesn't have to be as efficient because they weren't as great in that department last season anyways. "A bit of a mixed bag in terms of who was on the field. We saw like a tiny. Bit of xavier mckinney. We saw a tiny bit of thorny homes and maybe that was just based on who was available and depth. They just needed to line. Those guys up for a little bit. That just wanted to get them to the younger guys on this defense. But if we're talking about some top performers some guys that really shine in some spots where they kind of needed to if they wanted to fight to make it and stay on this roster. I one oceans immunised made a lot of good plays. I don't necessarily you can say that. He earned himself roster spot in this game. But i think zimmerman is starting to prove that. Hey when this guy is healthy he can be disruptive and he can be a one of the better rotational pass rushers on this roster yet the keyword there is pass rusher and he definitely impressed yet. Five pressures in the game had that one sack on the first drive. Speaking of that i drive. Which is amazing by kevin's too fancy. That's how you really call plays off of each other and just absolutely manipulated. The second team giants defense. It seemed like but up on that same drive. Oceans administers was tasked to be the Contained defender on the outside. And he just kinda got washed. On line of scrimmage ended up on the grounds. That's still a concern for me or administers ability to hold up against the ron. Which is a vital part of what patrick graham wants to do so. I think he definitely did. Good things on tape terms of rushing the passer. We saw a couple of different times in this game but he still needs to be better against the run right now. I would almost look at oceans as maybe that nickel pass rusher guide giant. Bring on. when they're in a four to five type alignment just to me. He looked a bit more comfortable as a hand in dirt defensive end. He moved well enough as a standup pass. Rusher but I thought his just leverage quickness off the ball was a little bit better with his hand in the dirt or kind of fake dirt like substance. Whatever they use in cleveland and yet you talk about the contain and just the the way. The browns moved the ball especially on that first series are say the first two series and joan. I talked about it in our quick reaction podcast last night. The giants need to work on their tackling. This is been two games in a row where there have just been way. Too many tackles too. Many arm tackles too many attempts at a lunge where the defender just kinda whiffs and given up way too many yards after contact. I liked joe. Kelley coming out of tennessee. But damn these yeah. He was coming out of tennessee. The giants had seventeen tackles in this game. And that's not anything that we saw from the obviously first team but still the giants second team is going up against the brown team so you think that would somewhat balance out. But they're way too. Many missed tackles. Yeah devante down to sam beal. Who had are horrendous game. Had three missed tackles the also had given mola had to miss tackles accredited from pro football focus. I'd like to see those on tape. Trent harris had a couple so that is not something that i feel like it's consistent with patrick. Graham hasn't still been the first team. Giants defense still managed just 'undisciplined football and you saw on a couple of those long runs by the ernest. Johnson's why guys just falling over does not executing good technique. It was kind of a hard to watch. It really wasn't and i'm glad you brought up discipline because that was the word that kind of jumped out to me especially watching the giants defense. When the browns would execute some kind of misdirection Sending a receiver in motion or having play action yet. The giants defense would bite hard on that and that that would have them just completely out of position to make a play on the ball and what could have been a three or four yard. Gain turns into a ten or twelve yard gain. Those first two drive. It seemed like the only times the browns were getting ten yards. Pop was if they screw something up. It's what it seemed like. I mean ryan anderson like somebody who usually from my tape study from alabama and even a little bit in washington was disciplined run defender and he bit so many times he was added position. Loss contain. That was actually kinda surprised about how he wasn't a lot of those types of reps number forty six out there late. Thirty six total snaps. You know you have to get your are is with. Get our eyes on a lot of these edge defenders because once the giants actually have some quality edged defenders. I would say Might be one or two that get released. And you're gonna be like okay. That i probably get scooped up by another team. Women's said that in a while about the new york giants. I don't think ryan anderson did too. Well himself sam bill definitely to do to from somebody who deep giants secondary when you have guys at various williams. Who have i would say. Add up and down kind of game better than the jets game but Still up somebody who could crack the roster even in a deep group as a rookie. Just because he's been having such a camp sam bill ryan anderson. Both those guys are guys who did not impress me in alaw. Minimum offense is another one group in there so conversely in terms of talking guys didn't press you. I want to say i found it very interesting..

"One day after the giants second preseason game a seventeen thirteen loss to the cleveland browns. We're going to do a couple of things here on today's show. We'll talk a little bit about sunday's game. Want to point out that that chris fleming joe daley own did a quick post game. Podcast on sunday. If you haven't listened to that please go back and do so. Also chris joe and nick lotto will be putting together a film review podcast which should air on tuesday so please look forward to that. Give that a listen as well couple of things that we're going to do here today. We're going to play some audio for you from the post game on sunday. We'll hear from head coach. Joe judge we will also hear from wide receiver kick returner special team gunnar and now defensive. Back matt cole. After he played basically both sides of the ball played on all three groups on sunday. Kohl's a guy who's been impressive In his couple of weeks with the giants after being waived by the new york jets. So we'll hear from him as well. We will also look at the giants week ahead as they end their preseason this week finishing that up with a game against the new england patriots on sunday. Evening at metlife stadium all right just a few things here quickly guys. That were impressive yesterday. In addition to coal on the offensive side of the ball was really impressed by devante booker. Thought that for the first time booker really showed why the giants were in such a rush to to sign him thought that that the wide receiver competition really didn't get a whole lot of clarity on on sunday. Coal impressed in his variety of roles. David sills had another nice day. Cj board continues to be a critical special teams player for the giants. John ross continues to be injured so really interesting how the giants are going to shape. The wide receiver backups. How many wide receivers. They're actually going to keep on. The roster was actually impressed by much of the work of the backup offensive. Line was good to see veteran. Backup center jonathan harrison. Play the entire game after missing a lot of time this camp with an undisclosed injury. Kenny wiggins and and and ted larsen are both veteran. backed up. guards don't know if either of those guys will make the roster to be honest with you but they are both players. Who know what they're doing you know larson's a guy who was making his his preseason debut for the giants didn't grade tremendously well when it came to pro football focus but he's a guy who can both guards can play center offers. That kind of versatility knows what he's doing could be the kind of player that you want as a as a backup in an emergency situation so all in all thought that the offensive line played pretty. Well feel a little bit better about the about the depth. After watching sunday's game still think the giants will be looking on the waiver wire to to to perhaps upgrade that as we get closer to week one against the denver broncos but but thought that it was an encouraging performance by some of the the backup offensive lineman on the defensive side of the ball really impressed by the pass rush work of oceans immunise. Not so much. The edge setting against the run. That's an area where x has always seemed to struggle in that continues. Carter coughlan on the inside. Linebacker spot played really well. Couple of guys that got mentioned after the game by coach. Joe judge were defensive. Tackle david moa and linebacker. Trent harris not sure either of those guys can make the roster but they were both mentioned by joe. Judge also worth noting that ian rapoport. Nfl insiders reporting that some nfl teams have inquired with the giants about place. Kicker ryan santoso. Who isn't going to beat out graham gano but if he could bring the giants let's say a sixth seventh round draft pick in the upcoming draft. That might be worth considering for the giants. So we'll see what happens with santos though as it works out. The giants are heading to new england this week. Which happens to be a place kicker. Needy team so we'll see if anything develops there all right. Let's do this. Let's get right to the audio from joe judge. We're going to hear from joe judge. We're going to hear from matt cole. I've had experience doing for sears. And training camp and guys that have stuck around wanting impressed us. Was you know. He didn't blink out there. Get the ball through a couple of times. Nice tackle stopped short. They're enforcing feel so you know. Obviously hells a little bit noodle and he got a crash course last defense and some meetings but probably went up. Think yeah i think our entire roster we great quality working. it's quality opponent of the practice of jacksonian. We need to come out here. High-intensity high volume bill nor conditioning. Our fundamentals competitive rate about seen young guys play in competitive situation the entire game and she didn't really played for sixty minutes. That gives you a really good extended view these players not only early or in some small glimpses but extended how they make adjustments in games. Heather respond different situations for minute for the defense to minute. For the offense you can see a lot of players. Elevate their game this entire week and yesterday it's definitely a lot of push on a roster at different positions. You a lot.

"Julian lavas got some snaps. And cam these are guys. That don't really have any experience playing slot corner. Necessarily i mean the one that does logan ryan but i think like where they have them at safety and some i mean i think they're gonna try and get creative. I think he trusts. Patrick get creative. They're the you know the short up the other side with the dorie jackson. But that the nichols definitely an issue in your hope. That darnay playing against sterling shepard every practice and then going against landry can only help him and you hope that he takes the positive positive lessons out of this out. Say all right. Hey the one thing that we all try to learn. We all try to pick up is little hints here and there about who's going to make the roster you know who might be in trouble how the giants might be planning on unused some of the personnel that they have Couple of things that that have surprised me maybe is even in the preseason game and and from what i understood yesterday was was how much the the giants are are using. Trent harris. you know for example I'm curious if there's anything else that that you've picked up on just maybe in defensive alignments And even special teams alignments they give you a hint you know at least in your mind as to you. Know some of these bubble guys were maybe some surprise guys who who you think who you think might stick on the fifty three. That's a good. It's a good question Out say you're trent. Harris has one in particular six. I don't think anybody harris camp and it seems like they really like him. He gets reps on special teams too but he's been getting a lot of first reps guys. Banged up. I think nikolaaos has been getting a lot of interesting reps I can't figure out how laos makes this roster. Because i come in i keep as much as people like him in as much as i like him. I keep coming back to laos or o'shane zimmerman as and i keep coming back to the fact that i think draft pick wins. Yeah i mean i think. The coaches love lawlessness. Always around the ball. I mean maybe they feel that they could sneak them on the practice squad Especially if a guy trend hairs makes it gets tougher for laos. But i don't know it depends on what numbers the giants. Try to keep You know in certain positions a stuff like that but Trying to think Let's see so that will the guy they start trading for cross in josh jackson. I'm interested in those in seattle. Use those guys. They're against wraps on defense yesterday Very bright well. Getting a lot of like i use special teams wreck site. He has a really played much during camp. He's been banged up But i think he's still has a really good chance of making the team Trying to think year let me ask you about a specific one. I've i've been really curious about the fact that the giants have two fullbacks in camp to fullbacks who happen to be really really good special teams players in eli penny and cohen glaspie. A- and knowing joe judge and knowing the fact that that you know the giants lost levi into a lolo and against coal hickok teeny came up. Came up hurt yesterday. Don't know how badly he's hurt floating around in the back of my mind somewhere. Is this idea that. Because they're both such special such good special teams players that joe judge could find a way to keep both of those guys on the roster. Somehow i mean that wouldn't shock me Jospeh does get a lot of special teams reps. And i'd say you pettis been getting a surprising amount of like actual touches on offense against carries. He had a really nice catch yesterday. And like i don't know maybe they're trying to test out can be an actual part of the offense which would be interesting and we make it harder for somebody like gary right while the team ultimately but Yeah i mean that's drink in even like emerson that vein like a guy like ryan santoso like he's looked really impressive Punter and kicker kickoffs. Like if joe judge is gonna keep multiple guys that position If any coach was gonna keep two. Kickers joe drudge would probably do it. I don't know necessarily do it. shares. Leonardo ali cottam initially. Hope that he gets through the act squad. He's good enough to be kicker and sleek but yeah. I mean the specialty special teams is where you can have written about this. And i've asked you about this like that when it comes down to those bubble guys whether or not you play. Special teams is gonna make or break. And that's why. I don't think david cells as much of a lock as a lot of fancy. The thing is he doesn't really have a special teams roller. Cj board is like one of their best gunners and he's one of the top returners and he's not so bad receiver. Either you know. They've a few guys like that if you mean what they traded for kion crossing most teams don't trade for special teams by special teams as where you might find a surprise guy jalopy of making the team out. Say yeah i. I have a hard time with sills to be honest with you and and i keep doing and i just released another one this morning. I've been doing sort of weekly Fifty three man roster projection updates as the preseason training camp have been going along. And i know it's with my heart. I know it is. But i cannot bring myself to drop sills from the fifty. Three man roster. The kid had such a good training camp last year. He's having another really really good training camp this year. i mean. The kid moved within ten miles of daniel jones during the off season. Any trail daniel jones around the country like a puppy dog. Trying to you know to to help jones get work in and basically to put himself in a better position. I mean. I want the kid to make the roster. i mean. i'll be honest about that. I want the kid to make the roster can't bring myself to cut him when i do these projections but one hundred percent right if it comes down to special teams. I don't know c. J. board probably has a better chance and Agree like offense and on the field like look very Also again theory everybody's healthy now. I'd receive a room in His best chance of making might be john. Rosters doesn't get healthy. They either move on from him. Put rawson irs of them but in theory you know they have golladay asked sterling chabert dairy slate inquiry. Sony john ross. Does our five guys at are all going to get on the field before david sills in theory or at least four of them will If ross in the mix and so it fits receivers not going to be fifth or sixth receivers pretty rarely going to be on the field for offense so their role is primarily going to be on special teams. So if david sales can prove himself on special teams like when it comes down to that like the numbers like. It's just hard to see him unless they decide to keep seven receivers which i guess isn't impossible if they don't wanna lose ills but that that's kind of where i go back to you like in terms of performance. He deserves it for sure. Maybe even keep them overboard but knowing how much this value special teams..

"So chris this is something that we were going back and forth on before we started recording. The show is who sticks around on the roster and before we get into that conversation. I think we need to just hit on these backup players. The last three that have been listed at edge rushing roles or coughlin who was a rookie. Last year played. Mostly special teams did get some opportunities to get on. The field. didn't look all that great nassim to do some stuff that i don't think he was very comfortable doing and there was a reason why we saw him struggle. But then there's also trent harris and then there's also garrett kale so these three guys separate from some of the other names that we mentioned are probably the love most likely to get cut maybe or coughlin lands himself onto the practice squad but they have the biggest uphill battle to make this roster. Yeah i would agree with that. I think the giants like car coughlin. He is a guy who he's got a really strong work ethic he's got a great motor. He's a better athlete than i think he gets credit for but like you said when he got on the field he struggled. Yeah i think he could be in a battle with cam brown for that back end of the roster primarily special teams role with a chance to work as we on the field and defense. But he's going to have to pick it up because brown in that area does have a head start on him. Trent hair scare kale. I think the guys to watch in training camp but like you said they've got an uphill battle we also do have to pay attention to the numbers game. You know. we've got three guys. We think are going to have a sizeable share of the snap. Count and then. We've got four guys. We have a strong presence as a rotation. do the giants keep seven edge players. Or is it just six. Could ellison smith not cam brown off the bat off the back end of the roster and they basically just keep five down defensive lineman and six ed rushers unfortunately when we when you get as many bodies at a position as the giants have right now. The numbers game starts to be a very real consideration and giants could wind up being forced to make difficult decision with a guy they would really rather keep on their roster that i think is going be the largest debate that will be having in regards to this defense. And who makes the roster. Because you can't really say like oh it. You know the it makes sense. They've got a deep group. They're gonna keep seven guys. Look at the secondary. The secondary is the most crowded group on the roster and they're going to need spaces extra spaces. I think more than most teams to keep a lot of these guys on the roster and there's going to be somebody that is going to be cut. I think from the edge rushers or the defensive line. That is a recognizable name that we would have hoped would have at least gotten maybe a season or two more before. They parted ways with the giants and the two guys that i look at the most. That might be in that conversation because realistically it's probably going to be six it might. There's even a possibility might be five. I don't think that's going to happen. But there are going to be some serious constraints on how many edge rushers they can keep in the to that. I think come into play the most four competing for a roster spot right now even though they weren't doing so really last year is kim brown and is o'shane shane's inez. Like right now. The two of them i think of the most approve because they brought in some veteran free agents. They're going to give some of those guys. I think a little bit more the benefit the doubt because they've actually gotten more reps in live games. They've been competitive for other teams and they were basically hand selected to step into roles that were unproductive last year. If you have to go out and get guys in free agency for your positions. That usually means that the coaching staff is looking for competition. And they weren't necessarily impressed with what you showed so far. So oceans jimenez cam brown. I think right now are probably the biggest guys that might be surprised in the end of training camp yet and i really do feel there will be at least one surprise. Cut out of this group. We could even flag lorenzo carter as a potential surprise cut in the giants loved to turn the back into their roster. I'm not saying. Carter is going to be back under the roster type guy but they could find somebody to play that will linebacker position and if carter's injury lingers if they're just not happy with his development you know they really feel he should be an edge rusher and he is just not there yet They could decide. Hey we we just don't have any more time to spend trying to develop you. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors and we could see them maybe try to pounce on edge rusher that maybe a team like the browns or the forty niners teams with incredibly deep defenses. Cut i think that the edge group the linebacker group is probably going to be in the in the tightest constraints which you can consider some of these guys to be off ball linebacker slash slash edge rushers but considering the players they have along the defensive line and then most specifically the secondary is going to really force out some players because as we know this defense has been built around the secondary it is built around having quarterback stand there for extended periods of time until the defensive line in the edge. Rushers eventually get there. That is what has been the bread and butter. Maybe the approach alters slightly but it seems like the money and the effort that was spent in free agency there is going to be a huge emphasis still on the secondary. And we'll we'll talk about the safeties and the corners on separate shows and we'll probably talk about other surprise. Names that are recognizable players that are going to get cut from those groups but separate from that chris. I think with our backups. Here carter coffin. Trent harris gear kale are in a bit of a tight squeeze. We don't really know. A whole lot from trenton harrison garrett kale i think the more that's surprising but the more recognizable name is not going to make this for pretty much guarantee is carter coughlin. I just don't see a way that he squeaks into the roster unless they're obsessed with how he plays as a special teamer but it's just gonna be too tough for him considering all the guys ahead of him considering his limitations as an athlete and then we saw him struggle in various things last season when they asked him to get on the field and play more. Yeah he's going to have to make a pretty big jump in his play like just an incremental improvement. That'll be nice. But i don't think that's going to make enough to get him on the final fifty three man roster and yet. There's just one other thing i want to note. And that is the loss of rep. Yelma your i know. We're this is really a position group preview. But i think the giants losing their outside linebackers coach. He went back to coach at the college ranks. That's something i think. We were all expected expecting to see at some point but we did. Even though the giants pass rushers weren't a really impact group last year. we did see lorenzo. Carter take a step forward before he got hurt. We saw cuyler. Fakher will make some plays on. The giants didn't get a whole lot of out of marcus golden but when he was on the field last year he had an impact. And i'm just curious to see what another coaching change at that unit. Losing a guy who's very well regarded as a linebackers as a defensive coach. What effect that has no whether or not some of these young guys who were there last year maybe take a step backward without p. l. madera to coach them up some more. That's always going to be a big conversation point as well as there's been some rotations along this coaching staff. Who knows what we see. We see improvements.
