"And for some reason, focusing at the moment, at least, within the Singapore region. In their posting titled analyzing the exploitation of spring for Shell vulnerability in weaponizing and executing the mirai botnet malware, trend micro researchers said that quote the exploitation allows threat actors to download the mirai sample to the forward slash temp folder and execute them after making a permission change using CH mod. They wrote that they began seeing malicious activities at the start of April and they also found the malware file server with other variants of the sample for differing CPU architectures. And of course, that makes sense. Since Java is a multi architecture language that's executed by its own JVM. Trend micro's write up is by far the most in depth, even more so than a security scorecard. And deep and it's the most detailed analysis that I've encountered. So I've got a link in the show notes for anyone who's interested. And it makes sense that botnets would be quick to jump on this because it's going to be to some degree a time limited vulnerability. And it's not the first time we've seen this in December of last year, multiple botnets, including mirai and kin sing, were found to be leveraging the log for Shell, Java vulnerability, to breach susceptible servers on the Internet. And as we know, mirai, which means future in Japanese, is the name given to the Linux hosted malware, which is continued to target networked smart home devices, IP cameras, routers, and then link them into botnets, primarily for DDoS. Intel four 71 researchers said last month that the mirai code is so influential that even some of the malware offshoots are starting to have their own code versions released and co opted by other cybercriminals. Remember that Mariah source code escaped and was then found in the wild and some other offshoots of mirai were created. In January, CrowdStrike noted that compared to 2020, malware targeting Linux based systems had increased by 35% during 2021. An Intel said that the primary purpose of these malware families is to comprise vulnerable is to compromise vulnerable Internet connected devices, amass them into botnets and use them to perform distributed denial of service attacks, and of course we all know all too well just how powerful and prevalent and prevalent DDoS attacks have become today. So anyway, once again, we see there was the first item that we talked about last week was that someone had discovered a new way around a problem that had been patched 12 years before. The security community was like, well, we're not sure, maybe it depends upon the settings, but will Dorman said, you know, the default sample code, it's vulnerable. What do you know? Yeah. The reference implementation is vulnerable. You think that might be a problem? Wow. So yikes, 37,000 compromised attacks at this point. You kind of feel like you're hearing news happen right in front of your eyes. It's kind of amazing. Yeah. That's why it's worth listening to security now..

Federal reiki explained how the company intended to preserve privacy while enforcing measures against child exploitation part of the confusion federica attributed to the essential simultaneous announcement of two distinct tools. One of them identifies known and the emphasis should firmly be on known explicit images of children uploaded to the i. Cloud storage service. The other tool gives parents more powerful ways of keeping tabs on the images. Their children share through text messages. The simultaneous launch probably led many to conflate the two and to envision them as amounting to a single infusion of privacy threatening functionality into the apple ecosystem federica told the journal quote. It's really clear a lot of messages. Got jumbled pretty badly in terms of how things were understood. We wish that this would have come out a little more clearly for everyone because we feel very positive and strongly about what we're doing and quote federica says the new tools don't amount to a digital panopticon. He said people. Zych cloud storage isn't going to be continuously monitored and rummaged for whatever content apple might find objectionable instead apple will be notified when a certain threshold is reached in terms of the number of images uploaded and only then will it look the images are specifically identified and appear in a database of known child exploitation pictures. The ultimate guarantor of privacy for the new system apple says will be the multiple levels of audit. The company has put in place. So it's not a back door and doesn't involve.

"It's something we need to be aware of when we're talking about our usage of smartphones. So be aware of this and think about what you can do to reduce that ransomware hit a gob of companies last week. Fifteen hundred clients of a company called cassia. Which is a network management tool if this sounds familiar. That's because solar wins is a network management tool and it was hit back in december. They took data that time. The fifteen hundred. Cassia user clients. Roughly were hit with ransomware now. Were they as successful. There's a lot of discussion there and there's a lot of information that's being kind of squelched. This new type of attack is henning. People not directly not their individual systems but through the tools that are common throughout especially the trusted tools. This is a return to attacks that i saw in the the mid-2000s where they were attacking the antivirus software where they were attacking mcafee or norton or a trend micro or any of those whoever it was and then they were getting into the computers that way except now with network management tools. You get into a lot more computers all at once. So that's a big deal. That's something to be very aware of the pentagon and we talked about this actually a couple of years ago we talked about djeddai and that was a contract. Between the pentagon and microsoft it has now unraveling two years later because of many complaints by amazon and basically just all of the bad optics that are going on with it and they said okay. We'll send it out to bid. Well there's only two companies that are likely to be viable to carry the weight of a ten billion dollar contract that lasts ten years now. This contract djeddai. Yeah nice little sifi name..
