California gets a break from drenching rains
"California is expected to get a few days break from the weather. Powerful rainstorms of drenched parts of the state flooding roadways, causing landslides toppling trees and flooding hundreds of acres of strawberries, national weather service forecaster bob orwig says the state is getting a break. California's weather is much calmer than it has been. We do have some generally light rain potential coming up for part of the weekend mostly on Sunday. But or vex says next week could bring some issues. It looks like we may have a more significant storm affect California Tuesday and Wednesday with the potential for some additional heavy snows throughout this year. And some heavy rains at the lower elevation. So we could end up with some flooding issues as we go into the beginning to middle part of next week. So Californians will get a chance to clean up before the next round of winter arrives. I'm Donna water

Storms end Southern California water restrictions for 7M
"There's a silver lining from the latest storm to drench California. I'm Lisa dwyer. California's 11th atmospheric river left the storm soaked state with a bang bringing flooded roadways, landslides, and toppled trees to the southern part of the state, but also a drought busting rainfall that means the end of water restrictions for nearly 7 million people. The decision brings some relief amid the state's historic drought, but weather woes remain an additional 61,000 people remain under evacuation warnings. California's governor Gavin Newsom. We do as I speak 31 shelters that are operating in 14 counties in the state of California. And there is more weather on the way. The storm's path included New England, northeastern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey and upstate New York, where in some locations two feet of snow fell, New York governor Kathy hochul tweeted late Tuesday that close to 75,000 households in the state lost power, and Derry New Hampshire firefighters used chainsaws and shovels to rescue a girl trapped under a fallen tree. Ryan Bethea and Father Carlos Martins Explore the World of Exorcism
"I joke around particularly when we're talking about something really serious. This is serious. It doesn't get more serious than the spiritual battle that we're in. This is real. And there are many people listening to this program. You know, they have their questions, they get uncomfortable, maybe talking about this. So I want to do our best just to lead them along. But Ryan, why don't you since you're my friend and you host the podcast with father Martin? Why don't you explain who father Martin's is and how you came to meet him and do this podcast about what he does, which is to say exorcism. Absolutely. And obviously, I know friendship with you normally comes with a subpoena. So I'm just very good. Thank you. No one knew at some level. I could disavow disavow. So this actually started several years ago. It was actually doing some research for another show. I've always been fascinated with just the inexplicable. I mean, you yourself are no stranger. I know you authored a book loved by dozens of people called miracles. And I've always found that really interesting. Just because there are things in life that make it really interesting, you can't explain. I had some friends out of the Vatican and I was blessed to be able to take a trip out there and I got to meet some really fascinating folks and while doing research for that show, I was told, hey, if you are interested at all in the subject of exorcism, which most people at least are fascinated with it, they say you need to talk with this guy, father Carlos Martins, there is no, of course, official head exorcist. If you call the Vatican, there's no phone tree that says, you know, office of the chief exercise, but several people said there is a gentleman we respect immensely who has a lot of work in this and you should give them a call. I gave him a call, and of course I said, father, would you mind telling me a few stories he indulged me? And after that, I said, okay, people need to know about this.

Georgia Has Never Been Poor in Culture and Spirit
"Home brothers, you got a lot of the stuff back here, but you also get into the old southern raw genre, not necessarily, but Leonard Skynyrd, you get, you know, the Marshall Tucker band. You get Lana rhythm section. I still have memories of Atlanta rhythm section, you know, in the late said, you know, doing champagne jam. I mean champagne jam, yeah. Oh my God, filling up ticks, you know, Georgia Tech stadium back when we're doing those kind of things. And that's just, I think, John, from my perspective, it comes from a culture of sane. And people don't realize this in South Jordan but in north tour as well, that Georgia rural, you know, for many, many years. Atlanta is, of course, blossom, but it is still that people we came from a society that was, we were poor in resources, but not poor in culture and spirit. Exactly. Exactly. And so what we had was is you would have families or people in communities get together and on Friday and Saturday night they would have what we call hooting nannies or they would have people over and everybody would be cooking barbecue and they'd be playing guitar singing or they singing in the church and this is how that culture just developed. It is. I had there are two boys in my paternity, the holder brothers, Gable and wit holder. And they could pick guitars and sing and harmony. It was a true, it was a true southern tradition that they learned from their parents, going to church and all that stuff. And it was so amazing to hear. I remember they did a version of 7 bridges road by the eagles. And I was just left speechless by their ability to play the song and to harmonize at the same time. You know, I have Travis trit on that list too. And he is a hometown favorite because my son's gonna get in the background here. He's interested in the music conversation. But Travis Tritt, a growing up in Marietta, Georgia, post oak tree, you hear stories about Travis's grandfather being a bus driver in that area and I used to get my hair cut at a place called bob's barbershop off the sandy plains road and highway 5 and I never saw him there, but the rumor was that Travis used to go there to get that mullet trimmed up and looking good.

Ride Along in Watts
"Good morning, everybody. I'm your sitting host omelet and obie. I had to take some time today to talk about an issue that is near and dear to my heart. And that is law enforcement. Here in LA, I've had some very interesting run ins with law enforcement in my support of the work that they do. And this is not to negate the real instances of police brutality or police malpractice, but to say that that is not the majority of police officers in law enforcement. These are amazing men and women who are choosing to take on the job of protecting the people around them and working within their communities. And the police officers that I know, I will say, are wonderful men and women who are not only police officers, but they are teachers. They are parents. They are social workers in the work that they're doing, and they really are just doing amazing work day in and day out and working to shine the best light on their profession. Now, one of the craziest stories that I've ever been through, one of the craziest experience that I've ever had is doing a ride along in watts here in south central LA. I've done many of these now in the past couple of years because I'm well acquainted with police and talk about the work that they do quite often. But one time I was on a ride along late at night and driving down a residential area in watts when all of a sudden we noticed a car had been crashed straight into a tree. Of course, the police officers had to get out and respond in a woman ran into the streets screaming about how they needed paramedics. She was covered in blood, wearing gloves, little did we know that she was a nurse who was not working at the time. And as the police officers ran over to the car, they found that behind it was a young man who had been shot to death. By a gang in the area and in the neighborhood. And when I tell you that so many of the people living in these areas are desensitized to gun violence, there were young kids sitting outside watching as this man passed away right on the street. And who's there to respond to it? None other than your LAPD police officers who are seeing violence like this and death and destruction far too often in far more than any human should ever have to. "AB sports I'm Josh rowntree, major news Wednesday in college basketball is for the first time in nearly 5 decades. Syracuse will have a new head coach, more from correspondent Dave ferry. Basketball coach Jim beheim said at a news conference Wednesday that it was up to Syracuse to decide whether he returns for a 48th season. The school quickly responded by announcing that assistant Adrian Autry is replacing beheim, who was second on the all time wins list for division one coaches. I've been lucky. To be able to do it. Coach this long. His resume includes 34 NCAA tournament appearances, ten big east regular season titles and 5 conference tournament championships, along with the NCAA title in 2003, but the orange haven't had a 21 season in four years. I'm Dave ferry. On the NBA hardwood, CJ McCollum dropped in 32 points as the pelicans topped Dallas one 13 one O 6. It was good, man, but I'm just trying to win, man. I think that's, out of the score, a lot of points in my career and I hit big shots. I'm just trying to do what I can to help the team win. So it was nice to make some shots and make some plays, but it's even better when it comes in a win. The Cavaliers got by the heat one O four 100 as Evan mobley says defense led the way for Cleveland. I feel like we played pretty good defense. We were in our spots. Sometimes shooters got out. And we followed the shooters. We could do a little bit better with that. And then also them driving middle, but overall I feel like we did a good job. And Boston smashed Portland one 1593, Jason Tatum had 30. Al Horford added 17. I was just really early on taking with the defense was giving me the way they were playing me and guy found me early and I was able to get into a rhythm really early. And on the ice, the wild top the jets four two behind 46 saves for Mark Andre flurry. I thought you guys defended Walt, you know, everybody covered the metal to slat a lot of it. It's not too many grated air and the blocks and shots where it clear blocks away and obviously something nice goes up front to get the leader. I'm Josh Brown tree AP sports.

The Antichrist Administration With Benny Johnson
"Benny shifting gears here a little bit. You've been on top of this story. I haven't touched it or covered it at all. Let me tell you my little campus stuff and you know this to great detail and you've had some wonderful takes on it. The Garland hearing. Benny, what happened in the Garland hearing? So the public beating has not gone out of style, Charlie. That used to be tar and feather. It used to be running out of town on the rails and the old colonial days. For some odd reason we got rid of the stocks in the middle of the city. But the public beating exists today, just exists in the form of the congressional hearing. And Republicans delivered bombshell after blow after pistol whipping to Merrick Garland and that 70 year old man deserved it. That little keebler elf had his feet held to the fire and not just the fires that cooked the cookies and shot of the tree that he lives in, making cookies. He got burned yesterday. And it was bad. I listen, there was not a single stone left unturned. Hunter Biden, Joe Biden. Attacking Catholics attacking Christians. I think that was probably one of the harshest lines of questioning by Josh hawley. And Ted Cruz went after Kavanaugh, the Supreme Court Justices being threatened, a man wandering through Brett Kavanaugh's neighborhood with full tactical gear on, ready to kill him, admittedly. And the Justice Department doing absolutely nothing. So if you're a meemaw and you have a 25% American flag and the capital police usher you into the U.S. capitol, you get put on the terrorist watch list and you spend the rest of your life in jail. But if you are a man kitted out in tactical gear with deadly weapons and you go up to kill a Supreme Court Justice that was appointed by president Trump, you get a ticket to the chocolate factory, okay? You get to go to go to the candy shop. Merritt Garland kitten club. And look, the more laws the less justice. So Garland is choosing what laws to enforce based on his own political revenge. Look, Merrick Garland is a craven old man who is bitter. He's bitter he never became a Supreme Court Justice. He's bitter that seat remained open. Remember, Barack Obama put Garland up for that seat and the turtle to his great credit, Mitch McConnell refused to put it up for vote. It was one of the great things that the parliamentarian of the Senate from Kentucky ever did and he does deserve credit for it, and we won that shock election in 16 and Gorsuch filled the seat that Garland wanted.

DC's cherry blossoms coming early due to confusing weather

The trees are apparently confused about the changing climates due to the warmer than average temperatures, the trees never reached their winter dormancy, which is the starting point for calculating when the blooms will emerge. Jeff reinbold with the National Park Service as the 3700 cherry blossom trees in the city are expected to reach peak bloom earlier than expected between March 22nd and 25th, the city has experienced dramatic temperature swings. Congressman Greg Steube Talks About His Recent Fall
"Let's bring this up because I mean, one of the things that I'm going to get a lot of folks and I've got calls when I first happened, your accident and everything. I saw some great stuff here online recently about the gentleman who stopped and helped you. As much as you want to. Share a little bit with the podcast listeners who may have heard about it, but they're still hadn't heard a whole lot completed. What was actually happening, how did this guy and especially this tale of people helping people, I think, you know, look, we all have access. We all follow. We do, but that idea that somebody would come along and help is just pretty amazing. Yeah, and you really have to back up. I mean, if you're not a believer in God, you will be after hearing the story. And if you are a person of faith, it'll completely renew your faith. So the gentleman's name is woody that it's Daryl woody. I just call him woody. His friends call him woody. Who was the Amazon driver, but a week before this occurred, the Holy Spirit woke him up in the middle of the night like two 30 in the morning and told him to fast. So fast forward a week, he's standing in front of my gate. He hadn't eaten in 8 days and had only had water, and that's why I think he could spiritually assess and deal with all the things that he dealt with in a very quick manner. He was at the exact moment in time that the lord put him. If he would have been 5 seconds earlier, I'd have seen him out of wave. He'd have gone about his day. If he'd have been 5 seconds later, I'd have been on the ground and where we have 5 acres from where the gate is to where I was. He wouldn't have seen me because there's a berm in the way and I'd have been laying on the ground. So if he wasn't there, that exact moment. So I was, we're still dealing with the aftermath of Ian down here in Southwest Florida. We were going to have a church. Gathering at our House on that Saturday. And so I was up trim and trees, and I was on an extension ladder, easily 25 feet up because there were 6 by 6 20 foot 6 by 6s right next to when I was well above that. And woody, I'm trimming trees with a large chainsaw. Woody pulls up. Is there at the exact moment, sees someone trimming with a chainsaw, didn't know it was me at the time. And then as he's walking back to the truck, here's the branch snap, turns around, and at that moment, he sees the limb come down, hit the extension lottery jacks me up. So I didn't just get knocked down. I went up into the air. Wow. And he said it that moment, I looked at him while I was midair and we locked eyes from the gate to where I was falling. And fell 25 to 30 feet down straight down to the ground.

Dinesh and Debbie Review Netflix Documentary 'My Octopus Teacher'
"Debbie and I are talking about a documentary film we just watched together with family. It's called My Octopus Teacher and I was saying at the end of the last segment, what's really remarkable about this film, it's about a man's relationship. I mean, we wrote about people having a relationship with a cat or with a dog, a domestic animal, an octopus is a tiny mollusk. It's basically a little ball of substance with these tentacles and suckers. It's got, I don't know, a hundred or more suckers. And about 2000, I think. But 2000. And it floats in the water and it has its own sort of ecosystem in life. And yet this guy and this is what makes this film I think kind of amazing and like your take on it is he doesn't just go on to the water and go, okay there's a bunch of different trees here and a bunch of different animals and it's so spectacularly beautiful. He decides to form a relationship with one particular animal and it turns out to be an octopus. The octopus, yeah, so when he first saw it, he, it really, one of the things I think that he was surprised at was the fact that the octopus kind of looked at him. Check him out. Check him out. You know, like, who are you? And he was like, I was trying to build trust. And I'm like thinking, you're trying to build trust with an octopus. I mean, you know, but he basically equated the intelligence of the octopus, like a domestic cat or dog. And he said that the, in fact, a couple of times he dropped the camera, or he dropped something and he startled the octopus and he was like, oh, I blew it. I can't believe I did that. Because the octopus was recently reaching out to him like he was gonna touch him and then it scared him and he'd be like whisked off and they create this plume behind them, which is actually a kind of a defense mechanism to blind the predator, but anyway, so he just kept going every day every single day. And the other thing that I was surprised to hear was that an octopus life span is only one year.

"AP sport time Josh Brown tree. We started college basketball where there were four top 25 matchups throughout the country Tuesday. In Manhattan, Kansas K state dropped 9th ranked Baylor more from correspondent Greg eklund. First year head coach Jerome Tang and assistant coach at Baylor for 19 years, savored Kansas state's 75 65 win over the bears. It's not the who we played or winning that, but the environment tonight and just to turn out the crowd, the energy, I mean, every coach's dream K state trailed by three at halftime but came out firing in the second half behind chianti Johnson, who scored a game high 25 points, 16 of the second half. While Kant's point guard marquise Noel chipped in with 1410 from the free throw line, but he also had ten assists and no turnovers. Elsewhere 8th ranked Texas roughed up Iowa state 72 54, wade Taylor the fourth scored 25 points as 25th ranked Texas a and M, dropped 11th ranked Tennessee 68, 63, tenth ranked marquette got by 19th ranked creighton 73 71, and in their first home game since an on campus mass shooting 8 days prior, Michigan state knocked off 17th ranked Indiana 80 to 65. 'First Blood': The First 80's Action Movie
"I think I'm going to have to do this now and again there are moments when I have to just geek out. So it's a perfect place to do it. We've noticed him falling out of the tree. He manages to suture himself up. How does he manage to suture himself up because of this costar of the movie, which is his knife? Soon, we'll see the scene of him with teasel. This is an iconic image of the whole movie after he's downed all the other members of teasers team. He just comes out of nowhere out of the dark, puts this massive knife up against his neck and he says, don't push it, right? Leave it, drop it. What is that knife? Well, when I was a kid, I wanted that knife badly. It was designed by this man, Jimmy lyell. That's the knife. That's sly with Jimmy. A legend and utter legend in the industry. I bought cheap Chinese knock offs when I was 14 years old, and then eventually when I got to a certain age, I afforded myself a real one. And here it is. I brought it into the studio. We're going to geek out. This is one of the knives made by Jimmy lyell exactly the same as the one that sly used in the movie. They took the classic U.S. Air Force survival knife, doubled the size, hollowed out the handle. You've got the compass that you see him using the movie. You've got the sutures. You've got the needle and thread, the fishing line. So the only difference between boys and men are the price of their toys, Chris. It's such a cool prop. So that was an actual produced product before the film. No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no. No, no, no. That was made. Sly went to the most famous knife custom knife maker and said, we need to come up with something that's iconic that he could have as his only weapon. That became the first blood knife and then Lyle made one for each of his movies, so

The Garden Question
"tree" Discussed on The Garden Question
"And they normally have an urban forestry division or community assistance for shoe program because urban forestry is the up and coming thing. Why do you think that is? Because I think people are starting to understand that number one trees aren't just beautification. Number two, it's not just timber harvest, the torches go out and look at. But that we're looking at trees as a system can tell you that as an arborist, 17 years ago whenever I started, we looked at individual trees. And now we're starting to look at them as part of the bigger picture. It is a system. Trees talk to each other. Trees work together to do some really great things. Urban forestry is really an up and coming field. When I say urban forestry, a lot of people say city trees. Urban forest is a small town like mine. What are the trees in our community doing? It doesn't have to do with just a city. It has to do with trees in a community or a location. Urban can be kind of misleading, which is one of the reasons that the Georgia urban forestry council went from being the Georgia urban forestry council to being the Georgia tree council, because it was misleading. Basically, the trees that we interact with every day versus the trees that are harvest or just what I'd call the Woods. Correct. And it's how they all work together and how they get together to improve a community. So it's not just one tree. It's all the trees put together. We are talking about development and that sort of thing. If you have an acre of pavement and you don't have any trees on an acre of pavement in one inch of rain, you will put about 30,000 gallons of water into your stormwater system. So you look at all the pavement that we get on the average of 80 inches of rainy year. Think about how much that costs city in the taxpayers in order to process that amount of water..

The Garden Question
"tree" Discussed on The Garden Question
"You get more timber than you would have gotten with a timber harvester. The other part of that is how do you get trees on private property? What Jefferson has done is they have had a tree sale going on twice a year for now 12 years. These trees are sold to anybody who wants to buy them at cost. It is not a money maker for the Jefferson tree council. It is a way to get trees on private property, because everybody benefits from that Canopy. In 2021, the tree council sold a thousand trees, which has the potential to put an additional 33 acres of Canopy into Jefferson. Now, the city doesn't have to buy them, doesn't have to maintain them, doesn't have to accept liability. They're all on private property. And the other thing that Jefferson does is they will give you a credit on your utility bill if you plant treats. Up to two $40 twice a year, depending upon how many trees that you plant, we do want over story, some medium can be trees. His men a huge incentive to the homeowner to increase our Canopy by trees on private property. How do you follow up though and make sure that tree reaches maturity or is there a penalty if it doesn't? Look pretty loose about that. Most people are not going to buy a tree for 20 bucks, so they can get $5 back, so we find that our folks are pretty diligent and pretty proud of the trees that they plant, not all of them survive. We also encourage people to plant them for the grandkids as memorials. We tell them how much their property value will improve. If they have trees, because there's a neat little site called the national tree benefits calculator. You can go in your own yard and maybe you have that sweet gum and you hate it because the sweet come balls, your wife loves it because the fall color is actually happened. Guy said, you need to come out here and tell my wife that this tree is a nuisance that needs to go. We wanted to treat it as a calculator and I put in this 24 inch sweet gum in his yard. And pie chart, it told us that that tree is putting a $191 a year into his pocket. And you could also click on certain tabs and it would tell you even more about that tree. So we said, you know what? This is win win. Your wife gets to keep the tree and cost you 20 bucks a year to get the high school guy next door, pick up those annoying sweet gum balls. We really promote the value of trees in yards, not just because they're beautiful, but because of what they are giving back to their homeowner. How would we find that calculator? Go online. National tree benefit calculator. It'll take you 15 seconds to figure out whatever tree in your yard is given back to you. Give us a run through how that works when you get there. "Bible, movement by movement. And we are currently in movement two. Of the squirrel genesis. Yeah. Which is the first scroll in the Bible. Oh, and Chris, hi. Hi. And Tim. Hello. Hello. Three of us are working through this. And we're looking at the theme of trees. Yeah. In the Abraham stories. And so we just looked at how the theme of trees begins in the garden bean. Well, actually, it begins in the creation narrative. Yeah, yeah. And genesis one, where God gives seed bearing trees, fruit bearing trees as this gift of life. It's a good thing for humans. And then in the second creation story, there's a really extra special tree. Yeah, the tree of life. And it's in the center of the garden, which is in the center of the land. Which is this hotspot we're having an earth are connected. And so trees in the Bible, this theme is already really connected to this idea of being in the place where God and humans work together as one Eden. And tree and Hebrew can refer to what we think of as a tree. Yes. Like an oak tree. But it can also refer to what we would call bush. Yes. Or a vine, a wooded kind of plant. Yeah. That's right. So what it means is as you go on in the biblical story, the tree imagery of Eden can be activated, not just by the same word tree, but also by the appearance of other bushes or plants or low lying shrubs. But if they play the same role in the story, as the Garden of Eden tree, then you know you're in the presence of a repeated theme. And it can also be activated, not by tree, imagery, but by that same word, it's being translated in English as wood. So I think we see that come up in this movement later genesis 22. Yeah, the examples we're going to look at today show the creativity that later biblical stories can use up to activate the Garden of Eden tree imagery. So the second time a tree shows up, then, is when Noah who is kind of this new atom character who walks with God, he goes through the chaos waters, God does a new creation. And he up on a mountain, but he survives because of a boat. The tree is the means by which the little micro Eden and then he goes onto a mountain and he plants a vineyard, which is a tree. And there, again, we have this idea of not in humans together on a space. And the tree also becomes this downfall. Sadly. Just like in the garden. Yeah. And the garden, there were two trees. And one became the downfall. So when we got into the Abraham narratives, Tim, you kind of showed us how Abraham or Abram has used first called. He is a new atom again, a new NOAA, a new opportunity, God polling one person out of the many to give them blessing and try to restart this project of partnering with humanity to bless the world. So you showed us how their stories of Abram and he's hanging out at a tree. Is this random details? Like, oh, is that the oak of moray? Yeah. And we pitched a tent and built an altar and yahweh appeared to him. You know? Suddenly you realize, oh, this is Eden stuff. We're in Eid and territory. And so we looked at a number of those. In fact, this whole block of Abraham stories ended with him again at a tree on a mountain and then God actually comes to visit and they have a feast in a garden feasting on food that's described using the exact vocabulary of the food offerings from the book of leviticus. It's like enhancing that image of approaching God and connecting with him. Correct. So the tree that was the downfall of Adam and Eve now Abraham's hanging out at the tree inviting God in and it's a success. It's like a reverse of the fall. Yep. And then this is where then God promises Abram that he's going to give him a son, which is crazy because really old. Yeah, and his wife is really old. In the late 90s. But that's that famous story. And this is a really high moment for the life of Abraham and for the whole story of the battle so far. Yeah, totally. So that's where we left it at the beginning of chapter 18. So what's going to come next? This is story of sodom and gomorrah and how God invites Abraham into his divine council to determine the fate of the nations. And it turns out that he always really eager to show mercy. He'll spare the many, many wicked, if there's just a few righteous, but that's a whole story. We don't have time. But for using that story? No, the trees, but other cool stuff. More flood narrative stuff happening in that story. So after the sodom of story, yeah, we move into the second part of the story of Abraham. It makes up what we call chapters 20 through most of chapter 22. There's four narratives that are arranged here. They're really tightly organized through repeated words and images. So the four story is go like this, right? After the sodom and gomorrah event, Abraham goes down to the south, southwestern coast of the land, which is where the Philistines later live, and he goes there to a city, and he lies about the identity of his wife in the city. This has happened before. A second time. Yeah, totally. And that's actually part of how you know it's the beginning of a new part is in the first part of Abraham's story. Right after he was given the blessing, he lied about the identity of his wife and put her in jeopardy. For her safety in jeopardy. It was the first thing he did. Now, Abram just received another promise of blessing and a son, and the next narrative about him that kicks off the next part is him replaying his failure. So what's interesting is God appears to this king in a dream and says, hey, this guy lied to you and don't touch that woman or else you will surely die. She is the tree. Yes. Yeah, so this king becomes the atom figure. Abraham's wife is the tree that is not to be touched or eaten from lest you die, and Abraham plays the role of the snake. The lying treacherous snake in the story. Yeah, that's crazy. It's a really critical portrait of Abraham. And the king passes the test. And the king's like, hey, listen, man, I haven't touched her, and listen, are you the kind of God that's in the business of killing righteous people?.

"What is the world's smallest full grown tree species. Well it's exactly thirteen feet. Tall is what. I learned some kind of bonds. Oh yeah bonsai. Trees are definitely true because of how that's right there in the word and you look at it and say that's a tree. This question is actually deceptively very tricky. Because unlike saying like the blue whale is the biggest species smallest full grown tree species makes me want to ask a lot of questions naturally full grown. I feel like that's what the question is getting at and banzai. Aren't naturally that big like they're not selectively bred to be small they're just a big tree species that is pruned and shapes and like carefully manipulated into art which is a miniature tree so technically yes if you count that as a full grown tree in that it looks like a mature tree and could probably propagate more through cuttings. Were through something else. But that has a lot of human influence without human influence and just natural influence there are things called pygmy forests and there are some in california and then there are some in the philippines. They're all over the world and it's where the soil is poor enough so usually this means really low water retention and really acidic the. It's just a horrible place to live. And so trees grow really slowly and are essentially stunted and their growth and you have under these pygmy variations of the same trees that are only five six feet tall and people can walk through and and be above the tree line because the soil is so poor that they're struggling to grow and those are naturally those are grown to the best of their capacity but if they were somewhere else they would be big right. Yeah but if they're somewhere else there'd be big now if you think of a tree living where it can and then growing to its maximum height. Some people think that the dwarf willow salix. Herb asia is the smallest astray in the world because it can grow one to six centimeters in height and so that's like very very short definitely below the thirteen feet definition but other lookout. How is it a tree. That's the thing people were like. It's a woody like has sometimes has a singular stem men's they're like that's basically a trunk but then other people are just like that is a wash. It's a shrub. Pitches a woody shrub. And there's no way i'm accepting that as a tree. This dwarf willow is part of a genus of plants caulton salix which as a group have both shrubs like sprawling branching woody shrubs and willow trees the characteristic by a pond trump goes up long strands. Come down and so there are some people who are like. This is more like a tree than a shroud and then there are other people like no obviously fits in the shrub category. So it's either a tree or shrub because it is a willow and be like but it only has one trunk. So i guess it's a tree chubs early money money in the water this whole situation but the plants are confusing. I feel like trump is when there are multiple branches instead of a single trunk like close to the ground or out of the ground there are potentially lots of little branches. I just wanted to give a shout out to the word shrub which is great. This is really good but yeah so. This is a really long sprawling answer to say. I don't really know there are other trees that are between like four to six feet tall so a japanese maples can grow naturally about that big before they just level off and there are a couple other tree species like that that fully grown. They just sort of level off at six feet. Don't know why they're happy there. Yeah that's what i did. You wanna ask your question to the science couch. He joined by grandfather and they they Then work the business But my dad that was when he first spend. He became acquainted with tree on high street. Now we jump forward to nineteen hundred seventy six City of peoria named that tree the bicentennial tree or the city they had a plaque dedication of the tree and my grandfather got to be the person who presented and sold plaque. And my dad. By that point in time had become the chief arborist for the peoria illinois park district and so a little later that summer he went and collected. It's a little over two hundred acorns and my mother package them up. Ken ken to a package and then they wrote up little instructions on how to start them in a pot and then how the transplant them later on and then they took off in my dad's pickup truck with a little team over and they started out west and he planted in Nebraska utah nevada and oregon but the plaque this tell is one year later he collected another two hundred. My mother and him went east and My dad likes to say that anytime. They stopped for the evening if they stopped someplace. That thought was particularly lovely. It'd take some of the acorns out of one of the bags and he started planting them. Well people started seeing what he was doing so they'd come up to him. Ed say what are you doing it. Then give them a brochure and you talked to him and he then made up his own next thing. It introduced himself as frankie acorn the origin. Story of frankie. Acord. that's amazing. Do we know if any of these acorns took. Did they actually turn into trees. So his father never actually wanted to know if his if the trees ever grew. Yeah frankie had also left the acorn sue other arborist. He knew that they were in good hands. And that at some point they would probably also grow into trees. I love the idea that there are all of these big oak trees the descendants of this giant enormous peoria oak tree that are scattered across the country. That's a really appealing thought. So there was one last chapter into story dylan and it has to do with frankie acorns last wishes. I live in work in springfield illinois. Mr lincoln's hometown eighty five miles south of fury. And but i'd go every weekend. i'd see my father. He eventually was diagnosed with terminal brain tumor and he said to me he said they would. I want you to go up to the funeral home. Our family always use the same one under century. And do my pre planning for now might him and my mother had a double plot with headstone. My mother's already there. So i went up and did they come back and talk to my dad. He sits back and he's wound. Your hair looks at me. He says. I don't want any of that and i said well. What don't you like about dad. You sound like any of it. He says i want you. Cremate me and i want you to spread my ashes under that tree up on high street. So that's what i want. So i went back to the funeral homes fame day and i said the guy i just talked to May big stake here. We're going to have to redo this. So we worked on it again but he said well. Now you're going to need a vassal that will transport your father's ashes after cremation and lo and behold. They had this oak wooden box with an oak tree card. Donna and so. I picked that. So i come back. No my dad them. Kim scrape well. He passed in august. Ninety six and i waited one month until it was also the anniversary of my grandfather's passing. His dad took his ashes up there. And i spread them under the tree. Exactly according to his instructions and that's where his remains. Why under that tree. Wow that's amazing. Thank you so much to alex for telling us your personal story about that and i would love to hear from you when you go back and visit the tree in person record voice memo in front of the giant oaktree and please send it. I would love to hear that. And and thanks to david hanbury and the and the family for sharing the history of frankie acorn and taking us on a journey really through through the family tree. That was was beautiful. And thank you manalo. That was that was great. I i can't wait to hear what.

Simply they're simply sitting on a tree something about that. Be just like peas and carrots again and so keep it simple And we know anxiety and addiction is on the rise. We're not negating any of the reality is going on in the world by sitting in a tree or just you know discussing nature it's this is again a great hallway to stay grounded. Stay calm in the midst of this quarantine and always nature nature nature reconnect reset your brain and you can You can They they have proven to at the This affects the perez pathetic nerve in. And you know you can really Game Not just knowledge intellectually but your body picks up on this knowledge intellectually physically spiritually emotionally. It's real and again you can change and enhance Yourself across the board and of course we go out from there and that energy moves outward and upwards to share that energy that love quite simply so carry the forest within you and you are always home He s remember. Mem- remember that that's a good thing to for your mind to go to instead of dwelling on negatively or he said she said nonsense and If someone's attacking you remember put up the blockade go to nature go away down engage and there is certain things and people that they say things. They're not acceptable. And we don't allow them and we teach the kids as well. And so this is a great way to barricade when go to nature and you know parakeet protect ourselves and so put that up and visually and otherwise right and so the body picks up you know the energy from the trees and it helps boost your immunity and it helps actually helps you sleep well too so aside from being simply beautiful you know..

That's needed for breathing. Hello so not only. Is this great for stress. Obviously you know you know. It's good for the immune system and and that cortisol reduction on and paris empathetic stimulation there. They work synergistically. If you will to bolster the immune system so go to that place. Take the trip You know in symbolically and otherwise take the trip online you know. Go look at trees and gain That that energy so even again breathing in that energy symbolically is good for your System and the science of forest medicine encourages breathing in the woodsy air because the trees in the plan seem it the fight insides and they They're volatile gases that ward off rot an attack from bacteria fungi and insects. So more than five thousand of these compounds are recognized in common ones From oak cedar locust and pine have been used in traditional folk medicine. So there's so many reasons to get connected to nature you know. I mean we think of the the very science obey all let alone. Let's not forget that childlike wonder. I always talk about that. Because it's key. The childlike wonder and that innocence purity The wholesomeness of of keeping that child within you know cherishing the child within our very souls and embracing the child within and the and we're better parents for doing that as well and to remember things like skipping stones and You know perhaps cheer those memories with the kids skipping stones near the big oak tree or you know Again you know family members if you know if you can't physically get out now To keeping stones ally. "Nature is imagination. It's south i would say that's part of the creative process here. The imagination is is a huge part of it to stay in the solution. Remember the infinite possibilities of life and so The japanese have long practiced sharon yoku taking in the forest atmosphere or forest bathing to alleviate stress aggression fatigue and feelings of depression. So it's kinda cool to know. Sharon means forest and yoko means baffin. It's an evidence based therapeutic practice that connects people to forest environments who chantel sensory based invitations. I love that it's a gentle world. We live in and to me. That's a great perspective to in nature. It's a gentile world nature. Which is why i love it so much. And and there's great strength. Obviously the juxtaposition in the great paradox. Is that through that gentility. Indeed we are made strong and look at the the tenderness and gentleness of victory and the power and so There's even forest bathing music that you can play. I was go back to the music too. because again that's energy and frequency and and nature is all about that as well we tapped into the ci the life force in the quantum field and the solution the creative energy the frequency in this life. Pull that up. We can pull that up up. And as i say not not allow naysayers to try to bring that energy down on a low low frequency level so you can breathe that in and so again with the forest bathing you can play this music and or perhaps play classical is good To take the trip as they say different ways. Find your own creative to hit those notes if you will so there's This is just again great for the kids to the whole family. And a great thing you can do here in quarantine indoors and so again. Whatever it is you're doing think of being a parent. Is there anything more important. You want to be calm and so important to go to this place and so again. This is living in the solution and so again. I'm not a scientist. But i do. Experience great peace amidst these trees and even to look at them it. It brings this joy. This piece this calm on especially for those of us here in this place of going okay. I'm grounded in this ever present moment and so when we know how important it is to be in touch with nature and i know a lot of my listeners to are also vegan and so think of the trees and what they provide us here as well for the food the the fruits and veggies and so very very cool to embrace this and You know these are in and to go to this place of again. What brings us in terms of not. Just you know the the peace of mind. But what how it nurtures us and so I like to Even have pictures of paintings and pictures that my child counted and pictures of trees that she made coal or a surround myself with her artwork because they bring me great joy and she's got plenty of paintings of trees and at my home and They're just among my most precious belongings actually and so Perhaps you might decide to paint a tree or a forest yourself. Go for it. I think over and so This brings again great. Great inner solace inner peace and so again that life. Enhancing supernatural place. we go to That's organic and real in quarantine in always and and you don't have to consider yourself again a painter You know. Just get creative as i always say and and it's nobody's business but your own if you decide to take a painting at any age and go be creative and let the naysayers step aside and keep busy doing what we do being creative and there'll be plenty of people to come around and try to squelch that or You know whatever it is. It's it's not our business what they think and They'll go away. And so boundaries we must put up our boundaries and stay in the solution and there's great since actually even of of romance and and fire That one can tap into With been creative and artistic and free even go online to the to the left bank in paris and steady. the french painters. Isn't that fun to go to that place and look at the different tree. He's great. i love something about that. The french artists to and we'll all of them all over the world. I do you know how the time goes by and you realize well. I'm in this creative zone. And it's just being a where replenished as we breathe in this life or as as we appreciate income from gratitude and and something that starts as simply as really appreciating tree So very important and we remind one another of that and Go to the place where the art is where the creators are with the life. Let's take a deep breath and rise up away from all taxes city negatively. And you can do this with the trees and so and to add to this cool element You might try doing the tree meditation which you can find that on a previous podcast. I put out there a tree meditation. Which is again you stand with the trees like the tree. And that's kind of a cool thing to do to tree meditation and also there's a thing i do in yoga too Which i invite you to do with me as well. You can try it now if you like. It's the tree pose and that is if you want to ease into something like that. Maybe even begin with your arms up above your head and into prayer position and you can keep them up there or bring them down and now lift just simply one leg And keep that there and that's the tree pose and you can put the The bottom of your feet you know just to your inner thigh and then that is your tree pose and just meditate perhaps on the tree something beautiful the rose and stay in that and then switch lakes. And so next time you go by tree perhaps look look really study. Not just the tree the leaves or the lack of the trees and you know or look for the little birdies and the trees and the birds nest and all that takes place that we can lose our senses and listen for that too or listen to the rustle of the leaves on the trees and or what. What kind of a tree is that. What is what is blooming. What is blossoming there. And so i do love to watch the birds as they fly back and forth again from the patio and then they they zip back to the trees and they're in their own who regular rhythm we can learn so much from nature from the trees and the birds and their own rhythm its organic and so wholesome and life-enhancing and and so we learn much again from this nature and so To mention you know. The trees have great mental health benefits as well and the experts believed that you know by staring at trees. people can gain Just as a beautiful experience in a very wholesome healing experience and so i've incorporated actually into a. I'd do different kinds of meditations. And i was like to keep it real simple but then at times. I like to have a little farmer's market which i'm very lucky to have right across the street from where i live so i i just got some roses there and i'd like to get roses and different kinds in different colors and different Some of them are little baby ones. Are there large. And then to just simply steady arose steadier rose and again steadier tree and puts you i. It's great for the focus again here in quarantine and great for the breath. You know maybe a beautiful park or beautiful paintings something That you can behold brings you into the solution of nature and and so many different kinds again of of trees and what they represent and we can continuously Enhance ourselves and and A by educating ourselves to and there's always something more to learn or even maybe go to a little post also some great poems on trees and Some great songs and recently mentioned to that. Say go to safety first and bundle up if the weather is accordingly and You find where. We removed organically. But i have always loved that and raised my daughter sometimes to sit in the park with the nice book under the shade of a tree and so And that called to mind to another great song. And i could go on with the music. And i will but yes. I'll carry on now to the podcast. And so you know something about the think..

Because it's like we don't want to have this ornament in only only by the tree from this farm once. You wanna keep coming back because we have this ornament. I don't know it's just an idea of like that would be me. I don't know if anyone else would be like that. Okay then. There's rockefeller christmas tree so every year in new york on they put up this huge tree ray And it's a whole thing on twenty twenty. Wasn't that great. So i wrote i wrote about the twenty nineteen tree yet. Just read about twenty twenty if you'd asked me So people submit these trees to be donated for the rockefeller christmas tree. And so they'll submit it like ten years in advance like the twenty nine teen three. They had literally been washing it for ten years It came from florida at the tree was seventy seven veto. The woman started growing it. Back in nineteen fifty-nine. The christmas tree was donated and then at the end of it they turn it into a home for habitat for Habitat for humanity house. So you know. She don't donated spends all his time watering it. Probably not as professional as christmas reform. But it's a lot of work. I bet Yep and so. She donated it It was a norway spruce. And so that's why. I mentioned the types of christmas trees because I checked all of them on at the rockefeller center and a lot of them were norway spruce so that must be one tree that can grow A lot higher okay..
