"Little bit more important. I thought the key factor was west. Virginia's offense now obviously. I think we both love letter brown. And last week you know. One hundred and eighty plus rushing yards against fought tack. He's obviously really important and he's going to be against oklahoma. But when i look at the sooners defense been very dominant against the run number. Two in rushing success rate allowed among power five schools roughly twenty five percent of runs of great successful against them. West virginia really hasn't been an efficient running team. The last few seasons. And i know they've had like a little scheme. Shift there where it was a lot of outside zone. Now it's inside zone. Neither worked and so let. Browne typically is just banging his head against the wall though he did have a nice eighty ordered to start the game against attack but the sooners have allowed negative zero point one seven. Epa rush top twenty the country. And so for me. I think it's all about the past game. And that's going to be the biggest key factor to this game. Is ken west. Virginia moved the ball through the air. That's despite the the highlight reel interception last week the sooners been pretty poor defending the pass. And so i think if you're going to keep it within the sixteen and a half it's a great idea. Maybe run leading brown and rely on your defense. I just don't think that's going to be possible here. So you're going to have to move it through the air. Oklahoma feels a little right now on the field. A little messy off the field than in the locker room. So i didn't to dig. And he's our favorite accurate quarterback that doesn't have the best arm but one thing that he is really good at his. He cerebral right like he knows where the ball needs to go. Within the offense he can deliver it there. Accurately oklahoma's played tulane nebraska western carolina. I wouldn't call that trio of offenses like elite through the air by any stretch. Although nebraska's ben pretty solid through the air without some of their weapons but oklahoma right now one hundred twelfth in epa per pass allowed oklahoma secondary was kind of the one part of the defense that we had question marks coming into the season. We knew they lack size but they had to replace troy brown. They had to replace traynor norwood and then brennan radley. Hails transferred to washington. Because he's a vegas kid and wanted to be back out in the west coast. And i guess todd tape mortell couldn't couldn't recruit him to vacant bring him home for you. Know what there was a tape. Martell citing all over the weekend. I'm not quite how he's going to get integrated into the unlv offense and iowa state home game. I think unlv and the i had at eighteen yards of total offense. A little programs got a long way to go pain before we're going to be relevant on the national landscape. So jared day has to step up and really play his best game this season. He's not off the best star but there's going to be opportunity here. The receiver group needs step up so far pretty slow start from guys like ford wheaton and we expected winston right to surge after adding even more weight to his frame this off season but through three games his productions down just one point four yards per outrun despite the a dot increasing three arts. But the one thing that he does very well spread the ball around right six guys with double digit targets already. One of the weapons has to step up and if west virginia's offensive of line can hold up. I think there's gonna be some opportunity through the air for west virginia. You know what's interesting about west. Virginia and neil brown didn't shy away from it. You've seen him. Insert a more mobile quarterback as a secondary pitch of sorts in gary green..

"You drew drew holding. Felt he had some good players. Don't get me wrong. But he. He's not that level. He's not going yet he's not he hasn't had that game yet. I don't think two thousand eight you give me like a two thousand seven defense thousand six where they were kind of coming together. Lamar woodley before he became dominant. You know i. I think you have something there when you have like a was the two thousand six raptors super bowl. When it was those seven woodley was a rookie. I think i think we could pull that kind of defense off I don't think we're quite two thousand eight level yet okay. Gotcha that's totally fair like salsa different areas. But what were your overall of of that game was that Was that as impressive. As i i sought to be because that was one excellent game from that group i was. I was really worried about that game because the bills do so many wide receiver. They play so many wide receivers and they went wide. Receiver crazy in that game like they. They averaged three and a half wide receivers snap. It's insane like they didn't even average average like a third of too tight end. Every two-thirds two out of every three snaps. They had a tight end on the field like they didn't even play. They're good tight. Ends running backs barely got to play like they just went wide receivers at us. Throw it out there. Because that's their offense. But also i think they went farther. Because you look at our roster. You're saying where are the question marks. Well yeah defensive back. That was our number one question mark heading into this game. They spread us out. We were going five. Six defensive backs play very rarely. Did we even get three defense lineman on the field and they answered the call A really some creativity they the way they protected traynor norwood who had a really fine game and if they nominal game if you're counting the fact that it was his first game and he's a seventh round pick rookie right. No one thought this guy was. Nfl ready going into the draft. Nobody they thought he was ready to be a partic- via a nickel corner. Nfl defense you have been gone in the fourth route. You'll have to do the seven. Nobody thought this guy was going to do this. But the way they hadn't in the you know they have let come in for a while. They were switching mak- fitzpatrick and him not just moving minka rounded. Make more dangerous situations in an answer. You know. fill holes at answer problems but moving train norwood around so that no one really got a chance to see his flaws and be able to split them in whatever position he was playing like. You didn't have long enough so that was really great how they survived that and that gives you a lot of hope for the defensive backs this game coming up. There's no test the steelers in a very different direction though very different now before before we get into this game specifically i want to ask about camps on because he made that incredible play on that four thousand stop that fourth and one that tackled that that recognition a one. That is as good as he's going to get that as a one hundred one hundred football. Iq play on that flea flicker he stuck to stefan digs knocked the ball as a plane. No one's talking about cam sutton made that play. He made plays all game long and he was the guy that they were targeting. Sure they scored that touchdown on them but that was literally perfect. Pass an inch the left into the right. That was incomplete. Cam sutton was all over. Gave davis i believe it was is camps on that guy. Is he a dude for us to the steelers finds something in hamsun's this reason why the let's steven nelson walk. Okay in the passing game. We saw what i expected from camp sutton. He gave up receptions tackled the catch. He got beat by a great throw when the when the cut by the receiver got it turned around. And you know if you're if you're facing away from the quarterback you're covering the width of your shoulder. That's that's all say. He was trying to watch. The guys is the guy. Did some late hands. Great throw great work by the receiver in that situation seen how campsite and gotten himself turned around sutton. A good job recovering. His recovery was really good. He he made that throw very difficult he consistently made it hard on the offense and that's really in the modern. Nfl where there is no such thing as they lockdown corner. There really isn't the rules. Have taken that completely out of the game. You can't just shut somebody down one on one The nfl roulette you. Cam sutton is a very good cornerback. When you about that fourth and one stott and furthermore if you watched in the first quarter when they were up when they had that i kick off he added a tackle on stefan digs or they had digs on traynor norwood and they try to run a little outright. With and very you know joe haden esque. He jumps in there and makes a hit. As soon as stefan dig gets the ball stuff on digs down trade or was chasing stuff on digs camp sutton makes the tackle. Those were the first to legit tackles for loss. I've seen in his career right in twenty twenty. He had a sack where the quarterback escaped. The pocket was running for his life and when he ran out of bounds. one yard. Behind the line of scrimmage camera was the closest player to that was his sack a tackle for a loss where a guy fell down and camera. Something walked up and touched him on the shoulder down like that. That was for a loss. This is not cam sutton's game and he really added. That really developed that this season. So yeah camp sutton phenomenal what i saw a lot of growth from him and i think he's. He's going to be a very solid. Starting quarterback i think as the season goes on. We're going to see he's a steven nelson right. Don't don't put them higher than that. He's gonna be steven nelson. Just too cheap perverse. I think honestly with what you showed there. He can actually be. I've been saying if he's eighty percent of steven nelson for one third the cost. That's great. I think he can legit be exactly what steven nelson was for the steelers. You said that exact phrase to me about fifteen times throughout this offseason off air so Leeann gentlemen. Jeffrey is sticking to his guns one hundred percent. Just so you know but aside from that of course. We're talking about the defensive back. So we talked about darren waller in the first half how the heck are the steelers gonna stop this guy. Kim steelers be the team. That stops this guy from this ridiculous run. He's been on. Because like i've mentioned and it should be an article that's dropping on thursday morning garin waller's the key to this game. The steelers can find a way to stuff on the raiders. Have no hope because sears a he has been their offense for the last about ten games can they stop the sky or slowing this guy. The best case scenario slowing being like seventy five yards. I got good news for you. The steelers are are the perfect team to stop this. They are the team to stop this. Because first off you have terrell like make. Patrick was moving around this game. And trawl edmonds. The steelers were dedicated against buffalo to keeping to safety dedicated to it right. That's not going to be the case in oakland you're gonna see single high safety your mink fitzpatrick as a single high safety. You're gonna throw up when buffalo would follow when not oakland when las vegas. The raiders go buffalo raiders multiple wide receivers. They spread it out. They do that. A lot was running backs and everything. They'll do heavy something five wide when they do that. You're gonna see a trial. Edmonds on darren waller and you're going to see something that people probably go crazy about. You're gonna see. Joe show bert.

"Shocker devon bush's first stat. Line ten tackles six solo tied for team lead in tackles. It was devon bush that had the green dot on his helmet devon bush that never left the field when they went to sub packages. All this talk when joe show was acquired was. Oh my gosh devon bush. Is he not healthy. Oh my gosh devon bush's twitter. Oh my gosh devon bush's knee. Is he not ready is he. Not good does he. Did he lose a step. Devin bush great. I thought he looked tremendous. He he was all over the field. He was communicating getting people in position. Devin bush looked the part. And i think this was a huge step for him and his recovery. Getting the knee healthy is different than trusting your knee and a game situation. Talk to anyone that has had a significant injury. I don't care if you tore your rotator cuff or if you data tornado yourself you will be physically ready to just do your everyday activities. But what about when you go and do whatever you did when you were hurt. That knee again. So when giving example my sister-in-law she tore. Acl washy was skiing. This was years ago. Now she rehabbed the knee. It was healthy. She was all good to go. She's not a professional athlete. She i don't think she's gone skiing since to be honest with you. She didn't want to put herself back. In that situation. I get it. However devin bush he is a professional football player so yes devin. Bush goes and says well. I'm gonna be hesitant the first time out there. I need to trust my knees gonna hold up well. That's what the preseason was four. He looks like he trusts it now. In that is a huge huge statement for the pittsburgh steelers defense moving forward if they have a healthy devon bush. This defense is tenfold better than last year and everyone wants to bring up last year's game with the buffalo bills by the way. Just think about this last season. You know who the inside linebacker a was. It was a combination of avery williamson. Marcus allen and ulysses over the third as your starters in buffalo in primetime against josh allen in that offense now you have devon bush joe schubert. You saw the result much better much better. So devin bush definitely winter last winter minka fitzpatrick ten tackle six o n a pass defense and there's a lot of people out there. I'm sure that are going to spring up. Oh mega fitzpatrick. Put on skates bio quarterback josh allen. Yes josh allen did scramble. Yes patrick did miss. He took a bad angle. He definitely bid on a fake. But you know what. I can't defend our. I'm sorry. I can't put a ton of blame on defenders when a quarterback leaves the pocket. Not when all the protections of their four the quarterback. Minka this patch. I'm sure would love nothing more than to be at a run right through josh allen. But he also doesn't want to get flagged he doesn't want to give them a you know a new set of downs and he probably doesn't wanna get ejected if the team that he was targeting or something like that nonetheless make fitzpatrick was all over the field. He was not in his typical. I'm just going to play deep safety. And i'm just going to be back here roaming around. They moved them around folks. If you've been waiting for that go back and watch his game again. You will see minkah fitzpatrick all over in the slot playing the nickel playing the dime deep safety. He's doing it all. And i love the t. J. watt after the game he was quoted when he said that there was a play where he was supposed to stay on the outside of the tackle and he didn't he went inside and minkah fitzpatrick came up. And i think i tweeted this. He looked like he was shot out of a gun. Just fly in up there and make a great tackle stops I believe those single terry just shy of the first down marker in the fourth downplay that they run was the play to camp sutton. Blew up mega phase. Passer makes that plays everything else. Changes mega fitzpatrick in my opinion deserves to be on the winners list. Let's go to losers now. You understand a lot of people might be like okay. Jeff you've got to put ben rothlisberger on there. I didn't i didn't have them on the winners or the losers list i felt the band just like nausea harris. Harris was a player. That i look like a rookie. He made mistakes and he made some plays. But it all stems from the one offensive grouping that i'm putting on this. Losers list is the offensive line is dealers. Had one hundred and seventy seven yards passing the did surrender to sacks set. Only seventy five yards rushing for three point. Six yard average steelers offensively struggled because of their offensive line. Everyone said where's the play action. How are you going to play action pass. If you can't protect the quarterback. Why is ben shotgun so much because he needs to be in shotgun so he doesn't get sick go back and watch the first half. The buffalo bills are daring the steelers to push the ball down the field and it wasn't until ben started. Just throwing up some fifty fifty balls to guys like chase clairol deontay johnson and even juju smith schuster. It wasn't until they connected on a few of those at the defense started to soften. This is what defenses are going to do to the pittsburgh steelers until a the offensive line gets together and starts to run the football or be. They started to pass protect well enough that they can actually let ben dropped back said his feet in deliver passes over the middle. Everyone said where's the passes. The tight ends you all. don't understand. He couldn't even get a four step drop without someone directly in his face. The offense of line needs to be better. I did not expect them to come out and lookie looking like they were even last year's offensive line. There are going to be struggles. Dan moore junior rookie. Left tackle locally turnstile on the first half whatever adjustments made or help they gave him he was better in the second half chew chor for look pretty soft in the first half definitely got it together in the second half. They started us more tight ends. The offense of line is going to be a work in progress. I'm not expecting perfection. I wanna see them get better in week two. They continue that trend. They'll be just fine when the playoffs rolled around next loser. Is the red zone offense stat. Line one for three in the red zone. I talked about this on friday. The areas the steelers had to improve upon to actually win this game. I said they had to convert on in the red zone in on third downs and should go to the surprise that no one that the red zone offense is on this losers list one for three in especially when they had that drive they get down inside the five and ben rothlisberger hits nause harrison. A little crosser on third down nause would have had to really shake free from the linebacker. Linebackers a good tackle and he gets stopped and a lot of people wanted the steelers to go for it and they didn't kick to feel good ended up working out but the red zone often has to be better has better than last. Is the other situation. I talked about on friday. Third down offense. The steelers were four for twelve on third downs. It's just not good enough folks. It's just not good enough but again. I didn't have high expectations for offense coming into the game. I know i predicted twenty seven points and as a lot but at the same time i never i never predicted dot fifty four yards of offense in the first half either so keep that in mind but still they have to clean it up. There's a lot of room for improvement win and move on. I any means necessary absolutely so there. You have it folks the winters. Let's go over them again. Camp sutton tj wctcam hayward traynor norwood. Melvin ingram announce highsmith yanti johnson miles killebrew and ulysses the third devin bush and make of his patrons the losers the offensive. Line the red zone offense and third down offense you want to nitpick this and and have fifteen losers have at it. That's my list. You want to disagree with me. That's fine go to the article. It's going to publish a ten. Am behind the.

"How you doing tonight sir. Doing great michael doing great love to hear it No special guests night mostly because there's no football this weekend it's the league wide kind of preseason. The bye week before week one. Jeffrey and i are gonna get into a little bit more funds steals show. Of course this has been a very busy week especially for your pittsburgh steelers and of course around the nfl. So if you've been consuming this information like i've been It's it's been one of those insane weeks across the nfl landscape but I guess really kick things off. There's a ton of news today but maybe we should start off the show on a positive note. Pittsburgh steelers signed curl joseph The former first round. Pick of the oakland raiders. Former cleveland brown. Back to the raiders gets cut. He signed to the practice squad but after his sixty corn teen is expected to make the fifty three man roster. Jeffrey what are your initial thoughts on curl. Joseph the new safety slash linebacker slash Swiss army knife is a mike tomlin described. Traynor would well. What are your thoughts on the pittsburgh. Steelers news player. I've liked carl. Carl joseph is coming out of college. He's he's not quite the player he's had some injuries but getting him to the practice squad get him for like you know nothing claiming him claiming off waivers even just signed him like a cheap deal. This is kind of a thing. And i i like the signing. I like the you know giving a guy with that kind of pedigree that kind of experience in the nfl because he was a good player when he was healthy. I like it. I like bringing them on board in this in any way affects the status of terrell edmonds. Could he pushed him for his spot. I don't think so. No if you look up what karl. Joseph is like even last year. He he can't. He's not a coverage guy like he was not a coverage guy when he came into the league his injuries of made him significantly less of coverage guy. So i don't. I don't see him being a threat to really any of the main. Any of the main safeties are defensive backs because he's just not that he's not that guy. It is pretty interesting. How will the steelers use him. Then in your opinion what what can spot should we expect in the lineup at will planning special teams which we expect out of Joseph they call. It was the plate special teams in oakland. I wouldn't doubt that he could is good tackler. I actually think. Karl joseph is a good candidate to get the marcus allen treatment. The like play some linebacker here I think he could get work in dime against certain teams. I don't think he's a deep safety kind of guy. I e you can use them in joan zone but he was always good in more of a linebacker or robber type zones those type zones. He was always better at that. That's where he got his interceptions that's made most of his plays so for me. I think he is a candidate to fill marcus allen death linebacker role And maybe get in on some some interesting some packages now jerry. Dulack was the man who broke the news that curl joseph not only signing the team. But it's expected to come up to that fifty three men roster after quarantine period in that scene tweet. He mentioned the pittsburgh. Steelers are more likely still going to add another defensive back They really haven't addressed that nickel corner spot. Arthur led of course. He signed back to the team today after the steelers play. Some guys i are. We'll get to that but it seems like there's still a a fairly substantial hole on that on that nickel corner spot. Do you expect them to still bring someone in because right now the way. You look at the roster. It doesn't seem like there's that guy and it looks like there's a number of free agent. Second i would. I expect them to pursue somebody one of my favorite mos interesting things about this. Preseason is that aside from cameron sign right. Outside of cameron sudden every single player they have put in the slot in like early in the game is listed as a safety or a linebacker because these are the guys these are the guys that have played in nickel or dime in the slot early on in any of the preseason games should antoine junior. They listed him as a safety. Arthur millette they listen to him. As a safety miles. Killebrew played there. They list him is a linebacker. Marcus allen has played in the slot he's listed as a linebacker and traynor norwood who is listed as a safety so it's three safeties and linebackers Which i find interesting because the steelers are always grabbing these kind of hybrid players and using them. Safeties guys like a make. Patrick where people are like is this guy. Linebacker is he. Is he a cornerback. Like what is like these guys that can play all those positions but don't really fit one perfectly. The steelers love collecting them. We've got a whole slew of them and they're trying them at the nickel spot. So i'm going to be very interesting to see if they do sign someone you know. What type of player they sign. But i'm also interested if they're unable to upgrade the position at all and how they will play the dime role. You know the the nickel slot because it's clear to me for what they were doing. Preseason they are really still looking for that kind of safety who can play in in the nickel or dine. Defenses and inside corner yahoo just the way this roster is being constructed. I would also assume that a body is coming in. I believe Jimmy moreland was one of the names that are floating out there. played for the washington football team last year. I've pretty solved player. He was cut on the injury designation. But it's still expected to play in week. One be healthy enough to play for week one. So if there's a name to watch. I feel like that's the one i throw out there. If the steelers weren't able to swing a trade which at this point seems a little less likely although the steelers still have a ton of cap space that something we have to keep in the back of our minds are kind of stepping away from the more positive news of course but staying in secondary. Joe haden today a little bit of news with him. That's him the steelers will not be working at a contract. This offseason This i guess This training camp. Of course we know. The steelers don't negotiate deals during the regular season slash. Postseason and joe. Hayden is expected to test free agency next summer. I'm curious what were your initial thoughts to that. And do you think this is going to be the end of the joe. Haden era in pittsburgh after the season. I always like the steelers. Don't like to extend guys early unless they're like their top most valuable players like it. Y ben rothlisberger can get a new contract anytime you want it. A but most of the time they go pretty close to their deal ending so wanted to hit me here either. Joe haden wants money that they're not willing to give him or cannot give him looking at what they're trying to do right now and so they're saying hey played out a year or they really are ready to move on from him Maybe they think that. Highly of james pierre and they're basically just grooming james fiero to be joe hayden's replacement next season. That's a possibility i. I'm leaning towards some finding a way to sign. Joe haden cut the salary. Cap will be bigger. There'll be more money. I i don't i think it's smart for him. Money wise to wait till next year and played out and see because there might be some teams with that much cast base saying. Hey we can blow money for two years on joe haden and give us a give us a guy who can come in and fill in here for a bit i. I would prefer that to be the steelers. The steelers will have some space that could use..

"Yeah i mean if you're a fourth round pick you've really got show that you don't deserve to be there for them to say. Let's try to get them on the practice squad because chances are people are going to look at that pedigree and be like yeah. Let's let's grab this guy. We could really use some and there are some teams that have recently lost inside linebackers that they would would possibly be looking. I mean we haven't even mentioned Yuji three who. Actually he'll in my honest opinion on friday night looked better than splaying. Believe it or not but was either explains dog crap. The entire preseason be honest. I mean he. He just hasn't looked he doesn't look good periods three but they are asking them to do more things not the same things that they're going to do in the regular season i get it. I'm just saying if they think gee three brings more than they cut spelane. I'm not going to be heartbroken. Dhamma either okay. Hold on marcus allen. Because he's we're gonna be talking about him later to because he is at linebacker. Jeffrey benedict pointed out where they kind of almost used him friday night in that. What would sometimes that dime role. And it was marcus allen as the second linebacker out there the steelers might replace what quote unquote linebacker is out there in order to do something like that. They really like him i. I'd kind of dismissed him for being on this team for the longest time but then seeing if they could utilize him in the as the answer to some their sub packages that that he brings an awful lot to where he brings it to both the inside linebacker position and could even be depth. That safety in a pinch right. And i actually thought about that for a while. Now i just never brought it up. Because i'm thinking did the steelers have to entertain this idea. The guy was a safety coming out of penn. State my goodness how wouldn't you entertain it. But maybe they're just getting around. I don't know so. Cornerback is pretty much set at this point with you. Know joe haden cam saad. Nothing james beer. He's continued to look good solid in the preseason in justin lanes a third round pick. They're gonna keep him. I think that arthur millette unless the ankle injury. Excuse me is considered serious. I think he makes the team that you had originally mark gilbert on your list. You had him out on the most reason. Is there anything that you saw that made you wanna put him out of the lineup. or what. What was it that you do that. No i still think. And the fact that they've sealer already made some cuts and players and other undrafted free agents like shaquille brown. Were already cut and mark gilbert. Still there just kind of kinda goes to show that i would love to keep mark gilbert. I think he is a player. That has much more pedigree than what than than a you. Dfa be because of the injuries he dealt with in college that you can see why he was a projected to be at least a day to pick after a sophomore year. He's got a lot that he can bring bucked. I also look at other places on the roster. And i'm like i don't justify keeping him over somebody else. That's what came into okay. And he's name to keep your eye on. He's a native ryan. Casey may be surprised some people. Let's go to safety. Neither of us disagreed a fitzpatrick. Terrell edmonds miles kilburn traynor would traynor norwood dana. Swiss army knife for the steelers. He played some nickel. There's really nothing to debate there unless the steelers added safety. So we're just gonna go straight to specialists Chris boswell is the only kicker on the roster that that was a debate anyways honor we both had big press making it Do you think that they're able to trade jordan barrier or anything like that and backward an article that ran sunday for the sides suggesting that maybe the denver broncos who have a horrible punting. I guess they're punting situation is bad. Maybe they could trade or package jordan berry trade. I can't believe any would actually want that guy but still I don't think he gets trade. You honestly i think harvard has more trade value. Not and i don't want them to trade harvard. So that's why that's why mike. Now calling the steelers right now and you want one of their partners. You should want harvard right in this in. The steelers should not part ways of the night. Yes now the debate that we had the difference we have here is that i have candidate making the team again. You have christian coons. Why do you have you have. I'll give you credit there. Why do you have him sticking around over candidate outside of here you know. And which is great that he was still here for this game because then basically the candidate was was sick before the game. So that's why. That's why. Coon scott all the snaps. Just think what cut would have done so or who knows. Maybe they would've made a place it who it's hard to say I've always you can't if it's a covert issue but if it was a covert issue you would have been on the list right so i think it's i just think coach tomlin said this before game friday night that when he. I think it was an interview with bob lab arreola that you know what we have nine other guys in the punt team that are supposed to go down to tackle. We don't need our punter or a long snapper to do that. Which is true. But if you have one the can i mean come on. I mean between the two. Who's who's more likely going to hit somebody. I think it's going to be big press. And between these between the two long snappers i mean christian. Kunz was a linebacker. So i just and you save some money with it i just. I don't think it's crazy. It's not the end of the world if they keep one over the other but for some reason it just kind of feels like the fact that they're down to seventy one players and he's still one of them means that he actually has a legit chance to make it near now. You're right and i talked about this before. We went on the air. The steelers to practices scheduled one for sunday in one for monday. I believe is that right. Dave victory monday and tuesday. I'm sorry monday and tuesday practice. They don't have a four day four. Pm tuesday to release the final cuts. They might be using those practices like a final tryout so to speak for some of these positions so we'll see how that pans out. We will be having a podcast airing on our podcast platform whenever this is released whether it's early like they cut the nine players on over the weekend or whether this is tuesday at three fifty nine. Pm we're going to have a podcast at some point letting you know who made it. Who didn't were. The surprise is all that good stuff so it makes you fall. David any final thoughts before we go. Yeah like i said don't place wagers based on our picks but do it for one of them. I would go with mine over jeff's just because the Well the funny thing is. I would go with dave's over mind to i. I literally don't put a ton of side into this stuff. davis way more analytical than i am. He's thinking about they didn't play trade. I didn't know the overthinking ethics. Put money on days anyways. Thank you dave joining me. I appreciate it with you this all the time. We'll have to get together again on this show of for all my rider dia crew. "Focus. This preseason james. Pierre hasim doesn't have any tackles. he hasn't missed tackle. Marcus allen he has attack on an assist but he also has a miss k. carlos davis amiss tackled. Nothing else just lane has a mistake. Well to go along with his solo tackle as does mark gilbert. Then you have. Derek watt. Who has an assistant miss and miles killebrew with the same thing. I will say this. These are just according to pro football focus. I can't confirm these with other places. I found that. Pf when it comes to the preseason actually has the the most amount of data. so that's what i'm done with so those are important to to to look at the tackles. Also the steelers did have one penalty on on a Special teams play and it was by mark gilbert just thrown out there so but he also has a lot of snaps so now. Let's get into what people might be carrying about the most. Yeah you want to have a lot snaps. But how'd you grade on those snaps. Who's the highest grade right by birth. According to pro football focus going by their numbers the steelers have two players that have their grated ninety or above for special teams so far this year. Let's see let. I'm going to see if i can tell you where they would come in overall in the nfl. So far with those special teams grade. They actually come in third and fifth. That's ironic that we we reference those numbers other places but they have the third best and fifth best special teams grades in the nfl. This preseason so that's interesting to know and those two players are number one. His traynor norwood with a ninety one point two then. The other player is wide receiver. Anthony johnson with a ninety point six. So it's very interesting that those are the two players that have great it out so high that they're both in the top five of the entire. Nfl this preseason for their for their special teams play then. There's a drop to number three. There's only one player that the steelers have it's in the eighties and that's jamir jones with an eighty two point nine score according to pf for special teams now just to in case you are chore basically if you come out and you and you play one snap and you don't do anything during that snap or you don't like do anything great or anything bad. The the starting point of these grades is a sixty point zero so you could always compare paragraphs to that. So who's doing you know above average so we said said jamir jones number four. Well i mean. I think he's. His contract is more about being a special teams player. That it is a fullback. Because it's derek watt with a seventy six point six on his sixteen snaps that he scored well even with that miss tackle and then. I'm not surprised by this one either. Another one in the seventies is end. Kevin raider at a seventy point seven. He does bring a lot to special teams. And if he does not make this roster i think years a prime candidate for the practice squad and someone that they could actually pull up on game day if they need to Just because they did that in the playoffs last year because they wanted him for special teams. So it's not beyond the realm. A possibility of of him ended up being the third tight end or them decided to keep a fourth tight end because of the special teams so kevin reiter is someone to pay attention to friday night and what he does on special teams because more you would get a greater chance to make the team based on your special teams play friday night and probably anything else on the next player of the only other one that was a seventy or above is cornerback. Mark gilbert with a seventy point one. So that's those are your top six scores for special teams for the steelers. Then then as you move on. You've got anthony. Mcfarland sixty nine point one secure brown. I'm probably not saying his name right. But oh well Sixty eight point. Five tyler simmons sixty six point two. I'm going to say but he's no longer member. The steelers he was one of those released this week christian kunz the long snapper has a sixty six point. One grade which i think is pretty interesting that that he's in here for that you know he's eleven field goals five punt coverage he's been getting at it on the punting i actually have him have him as a as a possibility of making this roster overcame or candidate because he can offer a little bit more on coverage teams after snaps the ball on that on that punting so then it goes to kaelin balaj at sixty five point. One cassius marsh sixty four point five if he makes his team is going to be more because they needed for special teams. Arthur latte at sixty three point five. That's a lamont weighed sixty three point. Three calvin bunted sixty two point six. I'm trying to to get a good stopping point. Sixty two point. Four is every mondo and other. Gotta keep an eye on friday night. Then you get then you start getting into the linemen that mainly like for example. Dan moore junior. He has a nice special teams grade. He's got ten special team snaps. They're all on the field goal team where he's out there as a blocker. He's got sixty one point four. He's basically got the best creative any player that you just only.

"Green. His upside is punked is penalty level. He has penalty level upside With he's not doesn't have the consistency he's not as nfl ready as penalty was. That's why he's the third round. We cannot have i But he has that level of ability. You've got the more junior who looks like an absolute steel at this point. You've got buddy. Johnson who's showing The kind of talent and a few flashes that he has the ability that he's going to be something special You've got the punter right. So that's another impact player even in the seventh round. I mean he's a kickers that bigger deal but it's it's still a player and and I'd say traynor norwood looks like he's a guy who's gonna stick around there already expanding his job. They're not they're not protecting him as much So i think yeah. I think there's some there's some decent deaf picks but that the top there. I think you've got four guys. Who look like they could be impact. Starters frankly oh four of them could impact starters this year. It's just whether dan mortgage the chance or not. Yeah i a hundred percent agree with that. Like even isaiah louder. Milk's getting these rave reviews from his teammates. He he seems like he's gonna be a guy for a kind of that next generation on steelers defense line when they try to transition to To the younger guys from the old guard that are still playing in a very high level. So he won't be getting any opportunity anytime soon. quincy rochet. He looks like he's a stud pass rusher but the students have a lot of those and might have even better and jamir jones which is pretty crazy so Yeah this draft class is one that could really turn the if you string draft classes like this year after year for for a number of years you're contenders your containing at least five years and really. That's that's all you can never hope for. And hopefully this is kind of the kind of diamond in the crown at the end of Kevin colbert's steelers tenure. But what do you think of the other. New guys now Since last time we talked we hadn't seen joe schober place for steelers action. Is he going to be a dude for this team is. That's a like an a plus pickup for the steelers. A just one game in. I don't know if i'd say a plus was definitely in the a category. He looked slow in the way that like he still thinking. But i mean he. He hadn't even been there for a week. Here's about on the team. Oh week yeah. And he's he's not so he didn't see what i think he's probably asked to play this week. You almost think he'd have to get some snaps in the defense and be able to call you know. Put him in there. Give him a bunch of backups and let them try and call the defense. Tell them what to do. See how it works. You know I liked what i saw is going to be very well with devon bush once they get accustomed to each other. I really think they fit well together. Okay we've broken down A couple position battles before on the show already. But let's get in some other ones that of course. We started off the earlier today. With the dan moore over joe hagan. We're in agreement on. That also talked about the running backs and i will get your thoughts on this but so we pretty much kind of outlined who we thought was going to win these spots but Behind nause harris. How does this depth chart round out I think you've gotten energy. And then then ballots. Mcfarland are are different back. So i think you're going to see ballads morris nause's backup and mcfarland as the change of pace guy so i think they'll both get snaps based on. You know how much running how much wrestling how snaps they wanna give a homey touches they wanna give najji But that's that's really. I think that's kind of a balance situation. They're gonna use both of them kind of how they used. Jalen samuels and benny smelled smell tobacco. James connor Based on the situation and what they were looking at. So i i think both of them will play and i don't think anyone behind them. At this point matters. I agree with that. And the way. I'd rank them on the depth chart would it might be better to rank them based on like touches. Of course nasha hair. So the top. I think anthony partly gets the next most and jalen balaj after that but i think those are the three quarterback. We don't really spend any time on dobbs as the guy getting cut haskins reroute office to roth spurs one whether you like it or not that's That's just the way that this cookies gonna crumble. tight end. There is a competition for that third spot between gesturing raider Gentry of course you have a little bit more size there. You might be a better more consistent blocker but then with raider you get an impact special teams player and a pretty good pretty darn good blockers. Well and someone is very willing to get his nose dirty in those kind of greasy areas of the field. But do you see this shaking out. Well i would watch to see how they play on to this time. Because i was surprised. Watching the game against the lions to see zach gentry on the field with ben rothlisberger in a game where they played both eric e. ron and pat fry moved. They made sure to get zach gentry snaps with the first team offense in line at tight end..

"Showed that kind of potential. He didn't look good when he had run responsibilities. There was a couple of plays. He too was to gaping. He didn't look good. But i'm very interested to see where he lines up where his rank is against philadelphia. I also have dimensioned. While calvin taylor was ahead of carlos davis in the hall of fame. Game got into play before him. Calvin taylor will not be playing in the philadelphia eagles game because he is not on the roster anymore. He was waived injured. So carla davis is automatically going to move up there. But i'm very interested to see how this plays out because to me and that limited action. Carlos davis looked better than all the other defensive lineman. They played that game so he looked better than warmly. Better than mondo better than bugs. Better than louder melk. He looked better than all those guys. I'm very interested to see where he plays. Also later in the game. They rotated him out of the normal defensive line and he played nose tackle in the third and fourth quarter. He played a lot in late in the third and the fourth quarter. He played some nose. Tackle where he was. He was not quite as good a fit. He's more of a pass rusher. he's much better. When it's just the two interior defensive lineman and then the edge rushers outside just a four man front. He looked better in those snaps But he also played some nose tackle. Look pretty good so he is my first player to watch out for As well as just know that we are going to keep track of the defensive line Situation this entire preseason because that is one of my favorites to look at the second player. I wanna look at from the hall of fame game. That stood out to me is a player. I did a film room on. The film room came out on monday. And it's about train. Norwood the steelers a seventh round. Pick their first of two seventh round picks. Mike tomlin when they drafted him called him. A jack of all trades safety And he really was frankly. He was overshadowed by the pick of presley. Harvard in the third and he's been overshadowed by the play of presley arvin presley third is looked phenomenal kicking the ball And even in the hall of fame game man the game presley arvin. The third had He he looked phenomenal train. Norwood in the hall of fame game. And if you look at the depth chart he's listed as the backup to minka fitzpatrick at free safety. So in the hall of fame. Gay was making fitzpatrick patrick. Sitting out not playing in the game at all trae norwood started. This is a seventh round pick rookie. Starting his first. Preseason game four minkah fitzpatrick and frankly he looked a little bit like mingka fitzpatrick. Now the caveat here is he's not minka fitzpatrick. I'm not saying he is. I'm not even. I'm not saying he's going to be. I don't i don't believe he has the potential to be. I'd never rule out anything. I'm never going to sit there and say guy. Can't you know become that great from where he starting from betray norwood. His odds of being the next week of patrick are incredibly low right. The i'm not saying that. I'm not saying he's the next week patrick. But when you look at the phil what are the things that has always stood out about. Mink of its. Patrick is his awareness and his ability to flow with the play to see where the play is going. And just be in the right spot right. So that when the ball is thrown. He's in the right spot to challenge it. And it's one of the reasons and being in the right spies one of the reasons. He doesn't get targeted because he's already there. You can look like the quarterback goes to look at a receiver and make of his patrick's position to defend the pass. And you're not gonna throw that because he has a history of when you do throw that he's he's gonna pick it off and he's a threat to take it all the way back for a touchdown so they just don't throw his way traynor would while he he doesn't have the he hasn't shown the playmaking yet he didn't call it quite as much in will. He had a lot of interceptions in college. I shouldn't say that While he hasn't shown the playmaking didn't have the pedigree of malkovich. Patrick and he doesn't have the athletic testing numbers that make a fitzpatrick had he shows that level of vision and awareness to find where the play is going. Get there and make a play as it stood out to me even in television broadcasts where most of the time you don't get to see the free safety and for preseason we we don't get the all twenty two and the coaches film. You don't get that. So the chance i got to see traynor would was in. When the dow's cowboys got into the steelers red zone that early on in the game right in the first quarter there in the in the red zone and they and alex smith gets his sack on that play trained norwood moved a couple of different places and he just basically denied the quarterback his reads. He took away his reads He went to his first. It was covered. It goes a second. Retrain norwood just reads. The play gets in the right spy that place covered. He goes to look for his third read. Traynor would moves with his eyes and is like no. It doesn't matter either. These players in the middle rights guys in the middle. Either of them traynor was not going to let him get the ball to and he ends up sacked. then that same drive Is is the play. Traynor norwood almost had an interception where he was the he was the deep half safety on the other on the right side of the field and makes it all the way over to the left side of the field of break- pass because he sees the quarterback scramble away from pressure quarterback scrambles away from pressure. Traynor would seize follows. His eyes runs down. There is aware of where the receivers are and put himself in position that assumes the ball is thrown he breaks on the ball and the wide receiver ends up having to break up the pass like it was intended for the guy and he's playing defense because trae work norwood stepped in front of the ball. Now he started there right. He's not gonna move up in front of mak- fitzpatrick so you're sitting there saying jeff. You know you're you're maintain was was rank. He's not moving up from backup free safety. He's not going to be the starting free safety. But what i'm interested in seeing for him is does he have potential play the nickel can they expand. His role are not the nickel dime to be the dime back in the same way where cameron sutton was the dime back but could also play a deep zone. If you have a backup safety who can play those deep zones. Come back up of his patrick and also play the i'm back role. You're gonna be a situation where you can keep cameron sutton on the outside and still feel free to move mak- fitzpatrick around positions that fit him. Better places where. He's more dangerous because he had his most dangerous when he can attack forward and as the deeper safety. That's not your job right. So whenever mak- fitzpatrick can move up a bit and have someone deeper than him. He's even better than just when he's the deep safety so for me. That's what i wanna see from traynor. What i want to see if they expand his role and if they try him at dieback against philadelphia. It'll be very interesting. Especially while minkah fitzpatrick still play. Lastly we're gonna talk about as a player to player to watch for his trey edmonds. A edmonds is listed as the steelers. Backup fullback behind derek. Whyte he is a special teams ace. Who has played running back. He's truly running back. That's his position but he's kind of gelled into this backup fullback mode and on the hall of fame game. He played h. Back which is the hybrid fullback tight end position if you remember will johnston from the steelers. under bruce arians way back in two thousand twelve. Two thousand fifteen. He was there. So late bruce arians early todd. Haley years will johnston. He was fast. He can catch the ball. He could run a bit. He was block. Some that's cut. That's an h. backroll right. Well matt candida uses the same position a little differently. There's a lot more of them crossing the formation on plays and a lot more them in motion They're a big deal and matt canada's offense not just as a weapon but in creating misdirection and throwing off the defense as to what you're actually doing for most of the game that position was played by the backup tight ends kevin rader.

"That i'm responsible for every day that the steelers practice where there's updates especially when there's fans in the stands we get so much more updates just because the reporters are allowed to say more than i then put a tracker. I put the the show in from steelers live that kicks off training camp. It's in the article whenever training camp practices done and they have their wrap up show. That goes at the end on putting all kinds of information in tweets in this article. Too basically where it could be your one stop shop for practice that day where you could go in and see exactly what's going on. I updated every few minutes on. It's a lot of work to stay on top of it. But i do it for you all and then also we turn around and give you this podcast as well for those people that are that listening on the podcast side but might not check out the website so we have all the information that we can get and today was a very interesting when it came to information. So i'll get to that. But i will say that. The steelers were back and surprisingly in pads. Today i know jeff said on yesterday's recap that he assumed that that was probably the last day in pads for the steelers but they were out there in pads again today. And if. I were to estimate why. I think that happened. It's because the steelers are trying to emulate an actual week. Even though the is on thursday and not the typical sunday and that is the came off there off on sunday. They went padded practice padded practice. Monday and tuesday tomorrow. Wednesday is what will soon as a non padded practice and it's not open to the public and then the steelers will travel to canton to be ready for the game. I'm pretty sure they are going to travel on. Wednesday and thursday have not seen an official report. But that's generally the the way things work in the nfl and with it being a night game they might do a walk through that morning or something so in order to try to make sure that players are figuring how to how a game would work a game leak would be. I think that's why they went with back-to-back padded practices. Now jeff will be back for the next recap. It's probably not going to be until saturday. Because like i said it's practices not open to the public wednesday thursday the hall of fame game fridays off day. I'm fairly certain. It will be back on saturday unless something changes with that schedule but it was very interesting today because there was not a lot of reports coming at the beginning of practice when the steelers took the field at approximately one thirty this afternoon and that was because art rooney the second was speaking to a group of the media at that time so therefore a lot of the reporters who would generally be telling us. Who's practicing who's not draft things of that nature. It took a while until that information started to come out because these reporters were still in in an interview with team. President art rooney. The second mike. Thomas had done his interview already. He did his typical tomlin tuesday at noon. A regular sit down press conference. That was really nice to see in here. And we have information on that at not only at behind the soccer curtain dot com but also the the post what i'd say the press conference wrap up or or however you wanna say i can't remember how it's phrased that jeff did earlier on our podcast platform. Hopefully you've already checked that out. But as they got doing with practice today it was. It was very interesting to see who wasn't wasn't practicing i. The steelers added a player to their roster. Just before practice it was announced. And that was running back. Tony brooks james if that means sounds familiar. It's because he spent time with the steelers in two thousand nineteen he appeared in three games had a handful of carries. I think it was seven carries for eight yards. Something like that. If i recall from reading that article earlier today he also ran ran back. Two kickoffs He was just three games with the steelers and then he was off again but he he was released last week by the atlanta falcons. So they brought him in and part of the reason that he was brought in might have been because for the second straight day. No benny snell. Not even that he was out there getting work in. But just wasn't you know fully dressed. He was not seen on the field for the last two days. Additionally neither was anthony mcfarland junior who apparently came up a little bit limp at the end of practice on monday so it makes sense that they might have brought in another running back. And then we're going to hear a little bit more about the running back situation as we progress through this other players that were not dressing once again. T. j. watt was doing his normal whatever. He's been doing where he's been working outta practicing at practice. But not actually practicing. With the team eric hebron once again missed practice. Zach gentry and ray ray mc lap. Sorry ray ray mcleod were also not practicing but on the on the good news zack. Banner was in pads again today and he did start off and the seven shots according to rafit a powder of the of the pittsburgh post gazette who said zach banners lining up at right tackle for seven shots. Dan more still at left tackle to that. Was the report coming out It's kind of funny because one tweet. I came across today. That that i actually got a kick out of was mark. Kabali says. let me describe a training camp practice for you. Drill drill drill stretch drill drill drill seven shots drills football plays drill drill drill that was remarkably of the atlantic. I got a kick out of that because it sounds like. That's really how things are going. The very first play of seven shots. That is as jeff said. Many times with offense gets seven. Tries from the two yard line. Defense is lineup to stop them. It's basically a two point conversion and it's who can win the most on the very first one unfortunately ben rothlisberger through an interception. Who did he throw to none other than outside linebacker. Alex highsmith okay. Then this starting offense bounces back with two touchdowns from ben rothlisberger after that wanted chianti johnson and wanna pat fair youth k There was conflicting reports on whether or not mason rudolph unit was one for two are over to some said. It was one for two sums. It was over two. And that's gonna make a big difference on who won seven shots the offense the defense but just had some conflicting reports there. but were they. What were the word. Conflicting reports was dwayne haskins. Had the last two shots and they went one for two with the final play being an interception by undrafted free agent market gilbert to finish up seven shots so according to most that was that the defense when the seven shots Still didn't get exact clarity on on the rudolf situations Bryan back. Go another one from the pittsburgh post gazette. He he said on twitter chase clayton. We'll just loves owning guys in one on one drills the other day he pancake justin lane at a blocking period. Now he just put traynor norwood on the ground with a stiff arm..

"Strong safety it goes tarot edmonds miles killebrew. And lamont wait. The steelers had killebrew listed as a linebacker on their website but i had been continually putting in with the secondary throughout everything so it looks like that's where he should be so that's the safeties corners. We know the left corner is joe. Haden who they have is the number. One right corner is cameron sutton behind joe. Haden have justin lane behind came something. They have james pierre once again. There's almost seems like their kind of snaking through a little bit behind. Justin lane is it. And joe hayden is third is damarcus. Ac and then fourth stephen denmark behind james pierre who's behind cameras sutton goes mark gilbert and then secure brown if you notice there's a couple of players missing that's because the steelers have the nickel position listed separately like they should the only two players. They have antoine books. Juniors the one arthur thermal as the to. So it's really interesting. We've we've heard this week that those are the two guys at that position. That's been getting time but right now that's all that's listed so Another player coach tomlin said could be in the mix airs traynor norwood. But he's already the number two at free safety so that's probably why they left him there to finish everything up. We'll go ahead and hit the special teams real quick. Railway mcleod is listed as the number one returner for both kickoffs and punt return for kickoffs. What's interesting anthony mcfarland. second james. pierre's third punt return. Don't they johnson a second. James pierce third very interesting genes beers even on that list. But i also find it intriguing. Anthony mcfarland is the number two guy kick return That was something we thought. Maybe he's a rookie. He would get to do last year. But that didn't appear to be the case now back in the last couple long snapper kamer candidate followed by christian koontz I wasn't sure if the if he would be a long snapper. Just be candidate or if they had him is a linebacker he is strictly a long snapper. So we don't have to worry about that question anymore The place kicker. Chris boswell followed by sam sloman Having an extra kicker is right now is basically to keep boswell from getting overworked. And four sloman to showcase what he can do whether with a another team or even if he could catch on with the practice squad and then at the punter situation have is identical to the holder. They actually told her as well. And it's the same thing they have jordan berry listed i and presley harbin. The third list is the second option. I would read too much into that. Because that's gonna really come down to who's out there kicking the ball so that my friends is the steelers initial two thousand twenty one depth chart. I'm sure this will be updated throughout the preseason but the steelers did need to have this done at some point during training camp. So that's the news. That's what they're thinking. We'll see how much this really plays out. It's right around the corner. The training campus started the first. Preseason game is less than two weeks away. it's very exciting before we know it. It's going to be week one of the nfl season. I'm really excited. I hope you're excited. The steelers fan. I know there might be some questions but sooner than later we are going to be getting those answers so we gotta finish it. How we always do. Go steelers.

"Today as you know we are breaking down my kind of expectations. And what i wanna see out of the defensive side of the football we got through the defensive line in the linebackers both spots so far and are kind of looking at the defensive backs and really. There's probably the most amount of question marks out of any position on this defense of course in the secondary One guy that we know won't have any question marks surrounding him as we start with. The corners is joe haden. he's been a fixture of the steelers secondary for a very long time. Now i do believe this is year five for joe. Hayden as pittsburgh steelers. Cornerback whether or not this is last year. Doing it remains to be seen. But he is a voice in that locker room and really. He's he's been the steelers best corner since he signed in this team five years ago. So i want to see out of joe is if he's still got it and if he can still play at a high level i wanna see the steelers put some money down on the table and keep joe haden on this team until he doesn't have it anymore. He's a guy that i think means way too much to this roster he's beloved by everyone in the nfl. He's one of the very few guys that i've never heard a negative thing. Said about really the only two guys. I can think of that or like that larry fitzgerald. Joe haden beloved across the entire. Nfl it doesn't matter what team you play for. It could be a bitter bitter rival. We know he left the browns but browns fans still love that guy. People love joe haden he. He means too much in that locker room. He means too much on the field if he can still go. I wanna see the steelers. Joe haden and play out his days as a member of the pittsburgh steelers and i want to see them. Get him a playoff win. He's still hasn't wanna playoff game in his career. That is a tragedy boy. Oh boy i wanna see that guy get a ring it if anything. But we'll start with the playoff game. Pass joe hayme because we know. He's the constant in the cornerback. Room the new guy that will be a starter outside of joe. Hain one mr cam son. He got the extension steven nelson got the boot. How does he. Oh good cam son can be. I wanna see if he can do better than steven nelson. Of course the steelers kind of hitch their wagon a camp sutton as their new starter. They didn't drafting one until very late in the draft. And even then. I'm not sure if traynor norwood is a corner. I think he's more of a safety. But again mike tomlin called swiss army knife. We will have to see on. Traynor would but i really do wanna see what cam sutton now will do as a starting corner. He's looked really good at times playing the outside. It'll be interesting. Of course james peer. He might as jeffrey benedict film guru at behind the steel curtain house said james. Peer might have the best technique when it comes this team which is crazy to think of an undrafted free agent from a year ago having that much talent so there might be an open competition here but by all means kempson has a contract. He is going to have the first crack at the starting job if he can be as good as steven nelson for a fraction of the price my word. What a win for the pittsburgh steelers that would change everything. Kam-sun maybe he's the guy that can finally reverse the curse of the steelers drafting corners. They haven't got one in a very long time. I guess since. I taylor but cam son. He has the potential to be the first drafted corner since then to look good in the secondary for the pittsburgh steelers so by all means i think all steeler fans are rooting for cam son to do. Just that after cam son. We know there's a massive hole in that nickel spot sutton was kind of the backup their gill really camp sutton was coming back. Spot in the secondary last year but The steelers lose. Mike cam sons more than likely playing on the outside. What does that mean for the nickel position. We know the steelers defense kind of changed a little bit when they found mike hilton as an undrafted. Free agent who bounced around from a couple of teams. They were able to develop defense. Were the nickel corner. Can go hunt quarterbacks. Really that was exciting and something. Not many teams really know teams have ever done so it. It changed the secondary two of the things really. There's two big factors here at that nickel corner position number one will the steelers try to run the same scheme and i really. That comes down to who the player at that spot is going to be the traditional corner coral. That's more of a coverage guy or if they want that guy to continue to hunt the quarterback and really by the sounds of some of these press conferences. It sounds like the steelers still want. That guy hunt. Quarterbacks do they have that person on roster is at arthur. Millette is a trucker brown. Is james peer heck cam sudden bunk down in those packages. We are not certain. Of course. I guess that will be answered. Come week one. Once we find out how this team plans to roll out there the players right now. We don't know the answer either. That so really number one was a scheme and number two is who is that guy going to be and can they be just as good as my kiln. Which really kind of an absurd statement. Mike hilton he was the only guy that's ever been able to play that job before. Hopefully the steelers have been able to find that guy. We know they desperately have been looking. They signed. I believe six defensive backs in undrafted free agency so by all means they are desperately looking for that guy to take over that role. There's a ton of guys on the roster that are going to have a crack at it is just up to the steelers to fine the best guy for that job. The last thing. I want to see out of the corner back. Position is how this depth chart is going to kinda roll out here. Oh boy it's going to be one of those kind of interesting things to see how everything plays out with the starters first of law but right now it seems james peer might be the number one backup when it comes to the outside corners and then beyond that. It's a ton of question marks and it's one of the things. I'm going to bring up again when we get to the safeties but really all these defensive back spots while it seems like we know who the starter or the most likely starters going to be when it comes to backup if there's an injury huge question marks. We don't know who those guys are going to be. And of course the steelers have a ton of young guys in the building. Now that are going to compete for those jobs. So we're just going to have to sit back and watch how plays out. But the way this depp chart rounds out is going to mean a lot. There's no way every single one of the pittsburgh steelers starters are going to remain healthy so it's one of those things to look out for whether or not they to bring in another guy through free agency before we get We get to training camp even after training camp kind of remains to be seen. We know that teams cut and is of course what forty seven players get cut each by each and every team each and every year so there could be some decent secondary guys in the market that the steelers could chase at that point but right now they don't really have that kind of flashy name. Maybe james pierre is. He looked really good in in one football game. The sample size isn't quite there yet. But we need to figure out this step chart the lowest position group. I wanna talk to you. Guys today about are the steelers safeties. We know minkah. Fitzpatrick is an absolute beast. He's one of the best players on this team. He's one of the best young players in the nfl today. On all pro a stud. He changed his team the second they traded for them. What what value the steelers got just a single first round..

"It's got the sure shot. One which extends two feet to reduce bending over and it's protective shield fits over the weeds to help contain the spray. It kills existing weeds to the roof. So they don't comeback which means instead of thinking about weeds. You can think about whatever you want to think about like unicycles or barbecue spare ribs or what goes through a person's mind when they look at a newborn baby and decide to name it. Chester the roundup brand think about we could think about. When you're not thinking about leans always read and follow pesticide label. Directions pittsburgh steeler fans. It is time for the second half of the curtain call. Podcast my name is. Michael beck joined by jeffrey benedict. We are hanging out having fun. Talking about oklahoma Stud i guess the nfl. So you're stud regardless traynor norwood's topic. Jeffrey was your original thoughts on that picker. The for me. I was kind of like who but well what did you think when that came down the pipeline. I wanted a cornerback significantly earlier. So at that point i was like who is this guy. What's going on. I started watching film on him. I saw like that. He's he's physical but in like a grabby hand. Fighting fight for the ball in the air could get a penalty but but more often than not he. He just made life miserable for people trying to catch the ball. I saw that he just reminded me a cameron sutton. I looked at them like they are drafted him for cameron sutton spot like. That's that's the goal in mind that kind of role. So i'm i'm positive on it. It's far enough down at seventh round. The hopefully he'll dodge the steelers. Drafted cornerback jinx. We'd all we'd all love to see a cornerback. Be be better you know. Be really good there. Cameron sutton hopefully. Hopefully he takes. That spot is the best drafter steelers quarterback in recent history. Hey you know what looking at these draft picks. We know twenty twenty draft class. Every single member made the team the way the cards are kind of following. It looks at the twenty twenty one classes a really good shot of doing the same thing and have every single drop. Pick make the team. I honestly i think it might come down norwood. What are your thoughts on that. You think every single one of these draft picks are making it. We'll we'll see louder. Milk defensive line is there are so many of them I know him i. I can't imagine them trading up for him accepting that like he's he's not a policy thing and then letting them go before even giving them one year So yeah. I think you're right norwood. That's a. That's a tough room simply because they have put so many names in to fill those spots like there's there's definite holes there there's definite room but they've thrown so many names in there with killer broom molay james pierre stepping up justin lane still hanging around the training drafted guys. Yeah and they're all what's interesting are all very different. I know someone in the chat. Said is traynor would like a james pierre. That'd be no. They're incredibly different. They're actually like opposites. Like james peer If you think of james. Pr thing of joe. Haden physical run stuffer. A technique is is fabulous Just not super fast. And then you have traynor norwood. Who is a camera sutton. He's gonna play off. He's not you know getting in the chest of wide receivers in hand fighting with them as much. He's looking to tobacco backup. Read the play and play the ball So they're very different players and then you've got the undrafted kit from michigan state that everyone's high on he's a different player. They're all it's going to be very interesting and this is one of the reasons i am excited for the preseason because they're such different players and i just wanna i wanna him get out there and see who they can use an how so then with with that. Who do you think the most likely rookie to get cut is i would. I'd have to go with nor one like i think. I think it's still probably him just because that room is crowded. He's a seventh round. Pick yeah i know i completely agree with that just just the way. Everything else has fallen. They haven't acquired another outside linebacker. So there's no way rochet's going anywhere Jordan berry would have to be ours even if jordan berries punting sixty orders throughout entire training camp. I think the the steelers have to taking consideration any places best football when it's hot out and he usually flops in the winter. And are they going to get rid of this This this punting stud like like this top punting prospects since probably daniel sepulveda's just let him go to market and signed somewhere else and just roll the dice jordan berry. I just can't see it happening. So for that argument sake. I would also agree. That norwood was probably the most likely cut of any of these rookie draft picks again though. I have a feeling they'll all make the team much like what we saw on twenty twenty which is incredible two years in a row to have your entire draft classmate team last year. Were six picks this year's nine. It'd be incredible but Going back to the safety specific talk. How do you think this like safety. Depth chart is going around out. Of course you got terrell edmondson make. That's patrick at the top. Who's who are going to be the guys that back them up author. Armalite is going to be in that discussion. I'm very interested to see if they put miles killebrew at safety or if they moved him. More like a marcus allen to where he's kind of linebacker kinds of safety But that is a that is a good question and one of the interesting things we've seen. Is that the steelers. Liked to use debts cornerbacks in that role. Like when in two thousand twenty when trail edmonds would come off the field. It wasn't shown davis playing for him. It was mike hilton. Coming in seven man. Front might kill. Wouldn't be on the field but they'll take. Trawl often put mike helton at strong safety They did the same thing with camp sutton of it. So it's it's it's it's it's interesting because the depth chart like matters there but they when they take safety's off the field. They don't always replace them. With safety's it's more like the each individual player has kind of the roles that they can play and they kind of match that up. So it's like okay. We need someone to go in there and play deep zone defense Let's cameron sutton. We need someone to be able to blitz blitz from the strong safety spot. And we're taking troll ivan's out so it's mike mike. Helton will play strong safety. They really do more on role based and i. It's interesting because they also like to be able to switch players around so you'll see trial edmonds in the slot and mike helton dropback zone. Sometimes it's just this..

Cameron sutton mike hilton james pierre two years Michael beck james marcus allen james peer two feet terrell edmondson Jeffrey seventh round daniel sepulveda last year Helton davis patrick mike helton six picks jordan berry
