Texas Governor Vows to Defund Legislature After Voting Bill Fails
"The fight over voting rights continues. Republican Governor Greg Abbott is threatened to withhold pay from the state legislature after Democrats walked out during a vote on Sunday in protest of a bill that would place restrictions on voting. On morning edition, Republican Texas State representative Travis Clarity, defended the bill, saying Texas is not trying to change its election rules based on former President Trump's lie that the election was stolen. This is a preventative measure for us. We do have and her testimony the router session of problems of voter irregularities of voter fraud of cases currently being investigated. It is an issue it is a real thing. But I think is our job to make sure that doesn't blossom into a problem that disturbs in one of the underpinnings of our democracy. That is confidence in our elections. Let's bring in Ashley Lopez. She's senior reporter for Kut and Austin. And she's been covering this and Ashley. Is there any evidence behind what Republican State representative Travis Clarity is saying that But there there's been voting irregularities in Texas that warrant new election rules in the state. You know, I find what he said. Really interesting because actually the first few weeks of the legislative session, which started earlier this year, state election officials, which is the folks that oversee elections in Texas, told lawmakers like clarity explicitly that the 2020 election in Texas was both safe and secure. They said they found no large scale problems with how elections are being run by local officials in the state. And I gotta say, even when the governor first announced that he would ask lawmakers to pass bills that would make elections more secure in Texas. When asked. He said he couldn't identify any evidence of actual voter fraud in the state. So I think when clarity says that this is like mostly prevented, the subtext here is that they were seeking outlaws to fix a problem that could exist, but currently don't

Ozuna, Albies Go Back-to-Back as Braves Beat Brewers 6-3
"Losing to the Braves starting pitching matchup in this one. Adrian Hauser on the mound for the crew. Drew Smyly going for Atlanta would be the Brewers, who would strike first in the bottom of the second inning. Avisail Garcia leave the inning off with a double A Travis Shaw ground out moves Garcia to third. And that brings up Louise Aureus. Now the pitch swinging a bullet hit after global Dansby Swanson in the left field on Gloria's will get the runner home sound. They score that one. I think it's gonna be in areas should have caught it. At least for now. That's being ruled a base hit. Although Dansby Swanson would commit an air later on in the inning, But the Brewers weren't able to take advantage of it. They get the one run on two hits. They strand two runners there in the second and say one. Nothing game going into the third. This was a neighboring houses would start to a run into a little bit of trouble. Very angry and so would lead the inning. Awful. They walked and Freddie Freeman with line out a wild pitch from Hauser would send Adrian's a two second. Then they walked to Marcela Zuna that puts runners on at 1st and 2nd. Ozzy al Bees, then lines out. But then Dansby Swanson walks so that loads the bases for Austin Reilly swinging a bouncer off of Hauser. Deflection. Maria's can't get it. One run is in house is going to come in. Ozuna scores to make it a 21 Atlanta lead It deflected off of Hauser. Horace was going over to get it and he might have had a chance to get it if it doesn't hit Hauser That would push wants into third than William Contreras is hit by a pitch so multiple walks a hit batter there in the inning. Hauser would get out of it with a strikeout to enter and see our days. The Braves leave him loaded. They put do put two runs across there in the third, and it is a 21 game. That would be it for

From Working on Oil Fields to Passively Investing in Real Estate with Travis Watts
"Traffic's for people that don't know what the differences between passive and active investing brigadier. What does it mean to be a passive investor. Sure i would define that as not having an active role in the actual business of what it is. You're investing in so for example. Let's say you buy a stock you buy. I dunno apple stock. you're not the ceo. You're not an engineer. At apple year in no way shape or form actually impacting the business yourself individually or having to work or exchange for money. You're a passive investor. You just owning a fractional share of that company and being hands off in the process in the sharing in the profits and success of the company. Same thing could be related to real estate. I invest in real estate syndications or real estate. Private placements were another team. Is out there finding the deal. Running the operations finding the property management finding the contractors. I'm just a passive investor in the deal giving him some money to help that be successful in sharing in the profits. Not having to do all of that on my own. Like i used to do. I think that everyone can see. That travis is not a rookie anymore. He is a pro at this. And that's why we brought him on as we want to give you guys some insight some knowledge as to where you can be where you can go with your real estate. Investing in travis's really gonna kind of break down. What he does and how he has made a passive for him so travis what was that first mindset shift. Were you decided. I don't want to be hands on. I don't wanna be active anymore. And i wanna go towards the passive side. Yeah that's kind of funny story. So at first i just thought to things i need to make as much income as i can make so that i can start investing in the number two. I thought i can do it all myself. I don't know why. I thought that that was so naive of me but i just wanted to bounce it and i just thought i can flip a house. I can run a vacation. i can manage tenants. I can do all this without really having the backing to support
Shaw, Lauer lead Brewers past Bauer, Dodgers 2-1
"The pitching matchup was a mismatch but was Eric Lauer and the bullpen that helped the brewers nail down a two to one win over the Dodgers Lauer pitched the first five scoreless innings and four relievers were good enough to outdueled reigning Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer Bauer had one blemish he gave up a fourth inning two run Homer to Travis Shaw in his complete game four hitter Shaw says the brewers knew it would be difficult to score on power it's tough to rack up a bunch of hits after it against a guy like that so when he makes a mistake you got to kind of capitalize on it the Dodgers have a couple of rally snuffed out including in the ninth the Dodgers scored against brewer closer Josh Hayter with then got Mookie Betts to fly out to right field to end the game with the potential tying run on first base Chuck Freeman Milwaukee

Gary benbridge and marchessault travis all head to make it easier to find plan and have those cruise vacations you and your family dream of with the mind. Let's get going one of the biggest mistakes that people make is they don't want to spend time or money on the kevin because of the idea that the don't spend any time in there. I don't spend any time in my cabin. I just sleep in. My cabinet is not that important from there. Comes a huge amount of misery and unhappy crease experience. I know because. I learned the hard way and i literally get hundreds of comments confirming just this is also actually not true. Every single day you will spend up to half of your dna trails day to spend six to eight hour. Sleep perhaps one or two hours getting ready in the morning evening. Perhaps when you come back from excursions so you could be spending hof of the day. They're the biggest regret. I get is that people didn't take that seriously enough. Everyone assumes of course that everything will be perfect. It'll run smoothly and be just ride on a vacation but it may not be and it's really not worth taking that risk because if it goes wrong then you have real problems. Have for example. It's all fine until you have a huge amount of noise which means you don't get the rest that you want and going up nightclubs theaters gym equipment dying the scraping chairs on a product above your parting. People around the elevators problem neighbors kids noise come to interconnecting door crew coming and going through slamming access those people heading off port if you access to that areas right next to where you are all at kitchen noise vibration from engines and someone i would keep going on but there is a huge amount of things that could actually get in the way of you enjoying having a great

Jamie Eichenberger on the Need for Water Infrastructure Funding
"Delighted to be joined by jamie eichenberger. He is the president-elect of the board of trustees and also an associate vice president at hdr jamie. Thanks for coming on the podcast. And you travis. Happy to be here. We're gonna talk about infrastructure funding for this episode The water environment federation the board recently issued a position statement on infrastructure funding dive into that And one of the things that starts with i think is defining what the problem is with infrastructure funding. What what's going on. What what's the problem with the current status and landscape around funding of water infrastructure. Sure well travis is you know and I'm sure all Listeners are very aware of. We've spent trillions of dollars over the years on building a really strong backbone of infrastructure for water wastewater stormwater on across the united states and we continue to invest in infrastructure. But a lot of it seems to be focused on the growth addressing new regulatory changes. And we haven't necessarily put aside as much money to maintain that existing investment in the bills coming due a lot of our pipes or two hundred plus years old Across the country The aging aging infrastructure at our treatment facilities are reservoirs so the big needs for funding across the board and without increasing that funding will start to see service failures. So was i mean in real life. Well we may have some public health impacts were we may have fish kills and other environmental impacts. And so as as we're we're thinking about how to address those we know. The investment one of the issues is just limited funding as important as the water sector is. There's a lot of other competing. Funding priorities are cities and

"Are stories are valuable to at least one percent to kinda help them like their way through whatever it is. They're going through whether it's coming out whether it's finding self acceptance whether it's you know or just needing kind of like that little nudge that says hey you're gonna be okay. Things are really shitty. And it's okay to honor that and you know just accept it. That's what it is. What's not okay is staying stuck there. You know it is one thing to sit down and acknowledge how you're feeling and what you're going through and having an appreciation for it for what it is it is another to get swept up and listen i am i am so human like you know i will go through facebook and i will see things like piss me off and i'm like i like fired away at like you know like a clever retort and like a comment and like no delete delete daily. I e can't get stuck there and you can't let those little things you know kind of distract you from the mission and the mission is to move forward in faith and when i say faith. Faith to me is not religious faith. It's not a faith in god. I mean it could be enough. That works for you then absolutely me. Faith is knowing that you know. I have survived everything that i have been through up to this point in my life and i did that. I have help a friends and family but ultimately that that choice to take where i came from and become the person that i am like that was a conscious choice that that it didn't just happen like i worked hard and i think sometimes we celebrate where we've come. I also think it's important to acknowledge what we didn't become the things that we could have. Easily just be honest. We let ourselves get swept under not push forward and i think anybody out there. That's listening that is kind of you know if you're struggling or you're just kind of you know you're having a tough time dealing with your mental. Help seek therapy your friend. A safe support group. That is going to help. Keep you moving forward because we have to keep moving forward. The only way. I will say this you know. "But as Travis is getting ready to leave reporters, call the house and ask him to make a comment. Apparently word has gone now that he's about to take this test and both travis and Wayne, are furious. Travis Phones Gillespie and tells him he's not coming then he and Dwayne. Go back to the Sheridan where the inquirer has now flown in a few psychiatrists to bolster Travis's fragile condition. The magazine decides they want to give Travis, their own lie detector test, but the psychiatrist don't think it's a good idea. So they work at a deal. If Travis doesn't pass, they won't publish the results. So Travis agrees he's got nothing to lose at this point. But when it's done, everyone is in for a shock because according to the test Travis Walton is lying. We'll find out more about travis story when we come back now back to the story. When Travis Walton feels his polygraph the psychiatrists say it doesn't mean anything that. Travis. was simply too stressed. This isn't totally off the wall because polygraphs don't actually test someone's truthfulness test their stress levels lying create stress, which is how examiners can tell which answers on a test may be lies. So. If someone takes a polygraph who's already stressed, it can appear that they are lying even if they're not by all accounts, Travis was extremely stressed by the time. He took this test at this point the enquirer should probably just packed up and left, but instead they decided to publish Travis's story anyway on December. Sixteenth nineteen seventy five the enquirer runs a piece on travis abduction using the story he told under hypnosis. Then in February of Nineteen, seventy, six, two months after the story came out. Travis Dwayne and their mother Mary all take a polygraph this time all pass and these results are published. The police basically washed their hands of this and that's where the story seems to end at least until a famous you of Oh skeptic named Philip Class starts to do a little digging. His name might be familiar because we've already mentioned him in a couple of our episodes Philip. Class was probably the foremost do bunker of all UFO encounters for almost four decades. He was an electrical engineer by trade but became a passionate ufo skeptic later in life. In nineteen seventy-six class starts looking into the Travis Walton case and soon he amassed enough evidence to rip the story to shreds to begin with. An interview. Mike Rogers did with a ufo investigator sometime during the four day search for Travis in the interview Mike Admits on tape that he and his crew are way behind on their logging contract and that he hopes the US forest, service will forgive their lateness now that Travis has disappeared. "Then, he thought it might be some headlights or even a big campfire delight was so bright it spilled out onto the road in front of them through the break in the trees eventually they caught up to it off to the right about thirty yards away from the road was a UFO. Everyone is stunned. It was almost like looking at a photograph. The spaceship isn't moving just like hovering fifteen feet above a pile of cut trees and it's not even making a sound. Its. Sleek and shiny with no antenna or doors travis says it looks like to Pie. Plates have been stuck together with an upside down bowl on top everyone's eyes are just glued to it, and Travis is so awestruck that he actually gets out of the truck. He has to get closer before it flies away because he knows this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. So he starts walking toward it Mike and the other guys yell at him to turn around but travis just keeps inching closer and closer almost like a moth drawn to a flame, he can hear a quiet beeping. Sound coming from inside of it, a mix of high and low pitched sounds eventually, he standing almost right underneath it, and that's when he hears what sounds like a deep rumble inside the ship almost like an engine starting up the ufo starts to wobble. He says like a spinning top and travis scared now crouches behind a log. Finally, he decides to make a run for it back to the truck. But when he stands up a ray like blue green lightning shoots out of the spaceship electrocute him he can feel it strike him in the head and chest, and after that he blacks out. From the truck, the crew watches travis is blasted into the air, and then backwards about ten feet, they see hit the land on his right shoulder and then go limp. As some of the guys scream in shock Mike turns the ignition and slams his foot on the gas. He just wants to get out of there before the same thing happens to that he drives like a maniac down the twisty Turny road until he has to stop at a small barrier in the road to shake into drive around, it might take a moment to. Catch his breath he looks in his mirrors and sees nothing. So He's pretty sure this thing isn't coming after them Mike and his crew definitely don't want to go back but they realize the kind of half to travis could be really hurt or even dead plus none of them went away alone in the dark woods while the others drive back and search for him..

"Of what's the point of living? If you're not living the life, you wanna live. And I also think Oh my God. Could I ever get close to a person like that? You said it was a pretty selfish lifestyle afterwards, and we had a mini debate about that, and that's fine. If that's your choice, but it's I. do think though it's a little misleading, because like. Yes, I get your point that selfish because there's a threat of death, right? But more often a huge percentage of America, the the person's dedicated their life to their career, whether it's a lawyer or the CEO or all these different occupations that are like seventy eighty hour week, occupations. Yeah, and so you've lost that person to that career in general. You're going to see them on the weekends, but they're stressed. And Travis yes, has the threat of death looming, but his time is less, and he's at home with his family. Doing this thing, so you gotta be really granular about what you want out of the relationship, because if it safety. It could have the illusion of safety, but you could actually have much less of that person's life. Yeah, that's true. Everyone's different and every person probably has a different answer to this, but if I was picking for my dad, would I prefer to have him work a ton and see him maybe not that much. But feel pretty pretty confident that he's not risking his life every day. I would pick that, but you know it's funny because this is kind of your parents. What do you mean like this is? The Lens that your parents look at life. Like safety, but there's so many elements to safety like his safety. Emotional safety is safety totally. Connection Yeah intertwined lives, and yeah is a physical safety. I can tell you one thing. I'm judgmental of in the way that you are. That I. Am Not. Just Man I. Really Am Not I. Think whatever works works for him and his family. I think that's lovely..

"You ask a question. What is rally rally is a type of racing. That doesn't happen on a paved track. It happens in the woods most often or in Sweden. It happens in the snowy woods, or it happens along mountain trails and cars. Racing over jumps turns always with a very death defying element because you're racing within the trees. There's no run off so if you crash, you're crashing into a tree at speed. Is it still made like? Is it still a made track? It's just outdoors in the elements. Yes, there's like a path cleared through the forest race on e.. It's incredible. All right well, that's helpful. Yeah, let's get into it. Travis Pastrana? Is Motorsport Scott on earth? "That are listening to the podcast. But for those watching on Youtube. This is particularly salient Elliot. We're GONNA get the audio still. Get the audio. So it's not like we're completely screwing over the podcast audio listeners. Know but giving primacy to eyeballs over ears. This is a video travis. When a play this for you without biasing the jury at all this was Interview with Rick Bowness from a couple of weeks ago. Was there anyone you ever coached? Who Then went into coaching? And you said I cannot believe that this guy is behind the bench. I never ever would have thought it. Well coached so many players over the years. I'd have to give that one thought I'm sorry but no No no one jumps out at my mind. No there's a lot of guys that I didn't coach Ted. I'm shocked got into coaching. Or I one guy who yeah. Let's talk about him. Travis Green in Vancouver and every time I see tells them poems. I must've drove you crazy as a player and so it is Travis Green But Travis again he was. He was a smart hockey player. Really good with the PUCK good offensive. Instincts didn't have the greatest practice habits on all right but then so I know the work ethic. You need to be a coach in this league. But at and give Travis a lot of credit. He went to Juniors Assistant. Koji learned the hard way now. The guy that paid is due. So I'm very very happy for Travis but again every time I seen he said bones you I must be crazy as a little bit at times thoughts Not Surprising. Yeah it's not the first time I've heard that It's funny I think. Part of what he's saying probably has helped me to be a better coach of set it openly and honestly you know certain things in my playing days that is probably embarrassed about back to my H. L. Days my first couple years in the NHL I think that's part of just life. In general you look back and you learn a sometimes the hard way and But you come out probably better for tell us a story that won't get Jeff. I fired that you look back at early in your career and you say. I cannot believe that I did this now. Man While there's lot of them but Alright my first year in the American Hockey League I was talking about Butch goring the other day and I had put in junior in spokane and my rookie season the shell. I think it was twelve fifteen. I can't remember exactly how many games in and I must have been up the scoring like second in the League and leading our team. I'm not sure exactly but I was doing quite well. And someone got hurt in New York and I was back in my bags. I'm gone up for Sir. That's the way it works and I didn't get called up and had a little bit of a lip on probably affected my play and I remember butch calling me in because he knew me so well and just saying to trust them and trust the process and to trust that I wasn't ready to go to the NHL yet and Man He was right I look back and if I would have gone up then I might not have even had a career in the NHL. As a matter of fact I was sitting out games in the H. L. by the end of that season and That was just part of the attitude that I think adjustment that I needed. That you know overall probably took six to seven years. It was it was a long adjustment period but I think it was a much different player. My last six or seven years in the league than my first seven or whatever it was. How then would travis green the coach now handled Travis? Green the player then. Different ways I think that's a big part coaching. Nowadays how you handle younger players how you handle older players and it's not the same. I openly say that two players. I'm not going to treat y'all all the same. Some of them are at a different place in their maturity level. Somewhere different place in their skill level. And you have to really think about how you treat each player boy. That's really interesting. Because one of the things I always used to hear about coaches was the players like guys who treat everybody the same that the rules were consistent. But we always knew for Patrick was there. Were different rules. Look first of all you care if your players say oh. He's got favorites or he treats those guys better than me. I don't necessarily would call it. Favorites I think what I'm talking about is how you deal with people one on one. There are certain things within our group that and I think most teams that it's non-negotiable there are certain things that you have to treat everyone the same way. A lot of that is your work ethic. That for me isn't Isn't negotiable but how you treat players as far as discipline the charity level How many times do they make the mistake? If they make a mistake and they keep doing the same mistake. You probably have to treat them difference a lot like your kids certain kids if you have two or three kids some of them you might treat a little bit different because they probably need it I can recall Bob gaining once talking about difficult players. And his point was paraphrasing Bob. Gainey here he said something along the lines of if you don't have difficult players you're not gonNa have a very good team. Because great players good players are difficult to agree a little bit. Yeah I I've played on bad teams. Terrible teams pretty good teams. You know I think that. Get the teams that are really good. Have a little bit of swagger in them that probably can rub some people the wrong way probably can rub some of their coaches the wrong way. I think you have to be careful as a coach. with those players because in the heat of the moment they're very competitive guys and they might say some things to you that might piss you off a little bit and you might have a a banter back and forth which. I've occasionally have with some of our guys my look back in her playing days. my playing days at team. We hadn't tronto the year. We went to the semifinals. We had you know we had a lot of guys that could rub people the wrong way yet. it was a pretty good team and You know if you have a team with too many angels on it. Maybe play that way but Attend of the day. It's a hard game. It's a tough game and You Watch playoff hockey. The heat goes up and you need some guys with a little swagger and I think every good team has that. Who's that guy in your team like? Who's the guy on the band's be UNM you give it back to each other and when it's over you kind of wink at each other and say we both understood what was going on? I'M NOT NAME ANY NAMES ON OUR T. COM. Guys could probably guess a few of them but you know and they usually. They're usually guys that are one of them's gotta be Home Depot. Once in a while Patterson catterson strikes is another one. It's going to write down the raw mean Quinn. Go added quite a bit. We go back to my lasts. No I'm kidding now. There I think every team hasn't and I've noticed with our group the better we've gotten The more intense some of our conversations are occasionally and I try not to get too hard could but you still have to keep your players accountable and how you do. That comes across different ways at different times. Because you have to say travis like I love watching you on the bench because you look like one of the most miserable coaches on the League on the bench like I don't know if there's a guy who smiles on the bench less than you do well. I'm intense when we're planning I Competitive you WANNA win You want the team to be competitive in an intense. I might look that way but I love doing what I'm doing and I think that's just the nature of the beast when you're Enga- Modin that's part of it. We started the interview off by plane. The Rick Bowness Clip. I'm curious further to that. Is there anyone on your team that you could look at and say I could see this being a coach one day? I'll try to wrap anyone's career up but knowing what you know now but what it takes. What kind of personality need to have? Is Anyone on that team. You look at and you say you know what when it's done for this guy. I could see him behind the bench. Come across a guy like that. I had a player. I won't won't say who was even in the it was in the American Hockey League and Man This guy loved the game like I can tell he really loved it. I've only told this wants to a player. I felt like he was gonNA. This guy was gonNA play as long as he could and E- e- I just know. He was going to be successful at something whatever. He did whether it was coaching or business and I really liked him. I didn't get that long but I actually told them at the end like. Hey I think you should retire. And he looked at started laughing and in the same way and I said I'm saying that as a compliment like I think you're going to bang your head against the wall you're GonNa do whatever you can to try to make it and you probably not going to and I think you're going to be highly successful in whatever you do and think about that because you know I'd like to see you be successful in what you do and I knew he wasn't gonNA quit. Quit hockey rate them and he went on to play another year the next year in the American league and and then he called me or texted me about a year later and He just thank you for that piece of advice. And he was he had moved on and was having success in what he was doing business and in what was nice. It was nice feeling. You know this is not going to be good interview. If you're not going to tell us who you're talking about better. They actually wanted to talk to you about was so your first angel job as a head. Coach is in Vancouver and I think Vancouver is the second toughest market in the League after Montreal. I actually think it's tougher than Toronto and Pack Wayne. When he was coaching the leaves He. He would say to us. You guys are jerks but Vancouver's worse and you and I we have a good relationship but there have been times you said to me like Eliot. What the hell like. What are you going on our radio?.

Well, now, you're ladling people's let's go you could just sit like halfway in the seat. That's right. It's fine. So for example, white guest, we'll talk to you and your fellow black panel members right and explain how to fix prisons. Let's say, yes. Okay. And are you amazed that these guests are willing to do it? In the beginning. I was okay. Because there's no guarantee of your safety entering that room. People get upset at you the hosts or the people get upset at the guest or both like, Shannon Republic listeners. Well, most of the people that get upset about the show of never heard it. Right. They just read that description, which is admittedly providing provocative, except it's you literally gong. It's white people trying their best. Yeah. L K. But like it's weird to argue. It's not where I'm trying my bad. Yeah. It's weird because people see. People that get really mad about that sort of thing. They hear that you are ignoring race at all. And they think that's racist. Like a lot of the comments are just like, I don't know the a lot of the comments. I get are just boiled down to like your racist. 'cause you 'cause you realize they were white, right? And they they know they come from this weird colorblind perspective where if you aknowledge that they're pertinent distant differences than you're a bad person our buddy while he was making a joke saying, you know, what just by even recognizing something's racist directs.
