"They deal with it. If they have to get a player for a specific spot, they do it. Now, with young defensive ends edge rushers. You just don't know you don't know how they're going to adjust to the speed to the strength of the power of the game. The hope is that one of those those two guys, whether it's Basham or Russo Can find it can find something and can deliver in that category five sacks. It's not enough for a team leader for a defense that should be among the better defenses in the league. And when I look back at last year, I had the bills early. I had the bills middle of the season. I obviously had them late in the playoff game against the Colts, and I ended up doing the A F. C Championship on radio. The defense since the week 11 by Showed a lot of improvement. The numbers were better, and I just thought they were better. Collectively, there was just a better understanding of what Leslie Frazier was trying to do. So I believe the hope is there will be carried over from the second half of 2020 into 2021 with more consistency, and one of the things we've kept track of. Obviously, here in Buffalo is the F C East and you look around at the quarterback situation for the three other teams with Mac Jones in New England, Zach Wilson and to Tonga via lower amazing the Bills here in Buffalo with Josh Allen and Mitch Travis Key. They may have the best two quarterbacks. Certainly the most the two most proven quarterbacks in the division, not just the best one in Josh Allen. Yeah, that's pretty incredible to think because after his rookie year I know people in Buffalo felt confident that he could become a big time player Nationally, there are a lot of questions about his mechanics about his accuracy. How is he going to handle a big moment? All of these questions were still there. He answered a bunch of them in year two, and then that playoff game. Some of those questions started to resurface. Year three. He has one of the best statistical seasons in NFL. His Three for a quarterback. That's not hyperbole. That's real. Those numbers speak for themselves. So now going into year four You feel like you have that position locked down and he's going to be the guy similar to what the Steelers fans felt with Ben Roethlisberger for a decade for 12 years for 15 years now, for 18 years, we know in the NFL if you've got the heart and the will and the desire You can play that position if you remain healthy for a long time and Josh Allen's of physical specimen. They by far have the best set up in the division at quarterback and I would venture to say if you start looking around the league, they're also in that category of not having to worry and mixed. Robiskie is a very strong backup quarterback. I saw enough of them in Chicago. There were flashes of moments where you thought he could be a really good pro. And then there were moments where you realized maybe the consistency wasn't there before what the bills need. Big upgraded that position. I and I know the bills. Don't see the jets until we 10, but I know you do those preseason telecast for them. What it looks from the outside that They may have finally gotten this coach and quarterback thing right for the first time, and well, I don't have to tell you a really, really long time. Um, what are your early impressions, having been around that team through the course of this preseason? I mean, I'm not expecting them to be a juggernaut, but it looks like Coach and quarterback there on the right track here. What is your assessment there? Very similar to what you guys felt when this regime took over. You want to give them time and let's face it, Sean McDermott. They won right away. Even though it's a transition year. They ended up making the playoffs and you thought to yourself. Wow, this is working. The Jets needed to get that spot right. They had to get the right man at head coach Robert Saleh. In my estimation, is the right man. You meet him and you walk away, impressed with his emotional intelligence is ability to connect with people and then oh, by the way, he knows his stuff what he did in San Francisco Top five defense each of the last two years. Motivating players, creating a positive culture and I know that word gets thrown around a lot. But it is important and you saw it first hand you could say it. You could talk about creating an atmosphere that set you up for winning. But you have to actually go out and do it. And I think they took the first step in doing that. Jack Wilson actually met with him in person. So that was the first time I met with an NFL players since December of 2019. And impressed, impressed by how he carries himself impressed by his already growing knowledge base, But all the questions that he asks the work that he puts in. He's already been elected a captain. There's a belief there from his teammates, so I think the Jets feel like they can. Maybe set the tone this year for what's to come. If you're going to put a wind total on it, you're probably looking at about five wins this season with the idea that you see improvement over the course of the year and maybe 2022 you see a bit of a jump. I know that you know. Robert Salak came from the defensive side of the ball to head coaching position and 49 out of the 40 Niners. Will the Jets defense be able to reflect maybe a little bit of fat and an improved effort this year? I mean, they that's more about what I'm interested in about the Jets rather than Zach Wilson, the offense. I think they're going to struggle personally defensively to start up look at their secondary..

"To Mitchell Travis Key strengths, which are short to intermediate rhythm passing game with easy reads. And he did that. He gave him exactly the kinds of things where he can excel both with his physical abilities and his decision making so another feather in the cap. For Brian Table from last Saturday's game. Zack on the Tweet sheet, says the old line looks good and Singletary looks decisive in the 2nd and 3rd levels. He's always hit the whole pretty well, but I feel like he was always trying to make unnecessary cuts down field or running to the middle of the field when he should be angling to the sideline. Um I think that probably speaks to some degree. Maddie, too, has improved short area quickness. I mean, he was always elusive. We know that, but I think it's his burst. That makes him even more elusive now. Yeah, It's definitely that burst that we've been seeing through training camp that strength. I think that you have that burst because you have that strength. Um, like we talked about earlier, He's someone who worked on his speed in the off season. He feels like he's the strongest he's ever been heading into training camp and the preseason, So it was definitely nice to see that Out of him and how he was able to break off some of those runs again. Miss tackles in some areas, but still he had to make it work, and he did in a lot of ways when he was fed the ball, whether that was carrying or or being passed the ball in the offensive line. Yeah, the offensive line looks good. I am really pumped about the depth. We have an offensive line. I thought we had great depth. That offensive line last season, and I think we do this season as well. I mean last season, we saw Carter's go out. We saw depth guys roll in and and the offensive line picked up where it left off, and it didn't really feel like they ever missed a beat when they were without key starters, and I feel the same way about that group this year. It's a It's a group who Doesn't have a bunch of new players are part of it. I mean, of course, you add the rookies in there. Um, but we haven't seen all the starters in preseason. I don't think we will. But it's nice to know the depth that this that this position group has. Um, and it was also good to see Spencer Brown have a good game, working on the other side of the offensive line, just showing what he can offer and the skill set that he has as a rookie being thrown into the fire early. Yeah, and he played right tackle predominantly at northern Iowa, so it was probably no big deal to flip over there. His transition has been flipping things to the left side, where he's been You know, for a good portion of camp getting used to that side where you have to kind of Reverse your whole mindset with all your techniques and whatnot. And like you pointed out, really the injury problems were from guard to guard last year. Fortunately for the bills, the tackle stayed healthy. Pretty much all season long. It was the guard to guard that was a mess. Um Like butter, For example, That guy wasn't a starter at this time last year. He comes in plays like Think. Seven. Get seven starts last year, and now he's in the running to be a starting guard. So You know, you think about some of those things that happened to the bills from guard to guard last year. It may actually end up working out for the better this year because you have that much more depth and not only depth but depth with playing experience. Which is even more valuable so hopefully that bears itself out if it is needed bills fan 12 to 83 Maddie touches on something we just discussed. Singletary, quick and decisive. Russo and AJ set to break out and we have one of the best coaching staff slash front offices in the league. Most of the starters sat and we steamrolled Chicago, much like in week 17 against the Dolphins. Having your depth ready for those situations is all coaching. That's just what I was talking about. When you have your roster top to bottom, ready to play. That is coaching 100%. I mean, there's some staffs that just don't do it, and, um He just had his many. The Bears were one of those examples. Mm yeah. No training camp practices, at least for the Buffalo Bills. Bills are very fair in the terms of reps that they're giving different guys from the starters, second string, third string and beyond. They are rotating players out constantly and getting like you said the entire roster ready for the season. You never know when someone's going to come out. You never know when someone is going to have to come in, and I think it says a lot about the second half of the roster being ready in case their name is called. Week. One week two. You, you name it. These guys are going to be ready because of how they prepared and how they played in training camp. Yeah, last one here from Vito before we get to NFL true false. His team's probably deeper on the roster than any other in the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if we release four or five guys that immediately gets signed to 53 Man rosters. I think it's safe to say Manny that Whoever the released players are when they get down to 53. Other teams in this league that are short at certain positions are gonna be going through these roster cuts with a fine tooth comb looking for pickups. Yeah, I think you'll be able to find a lot of that on the bills roster. Guys like it cut. We've been saying it since the beginning of training camp, especially with the wide receiver group. And I think that extends beyond based on what we've seen The first two preseason games is that there is a lot of position groups on this team that have Players. That won't be a part of the 53 Man roster that have the opportunity to to go out and to make it 53 elsewhere. Like Sean McDermott said. These preseason games aren't just to try out for the Buffalo bills or try out for for the entire NFL. Absolutely time. Now for some NFL true false, you ready, Maddie? I'm ready. Let's do it. All right, So n f l true false brought to you by Yancey's fancy New York's artisan cheese. And we begin with this something we touched on earlier in the show. The Jets need to make a trade for a pass rusher following Carl Lawson's injury True or false. Yeah. I think that's pretty obvious. I'm going to say true you don't have Carl Lawson, who is a really great player..

"Got some explaining to do, Okay? You have to hear. I've put him in the wrong policies from assumption. Okay, give me six inches in height. He's only 56 not 58. He's played a great first half first quarter. It's down 10 from the 20 pairs moving from are left to our right motion from winds from right to left. So this key under center play action. Swings. It left side short. Toss full committee up the left sideline, tiptoeing his way across the 25 out of bounds at 29 Yard Line, nine yard pick up on the quick toss from Travis Key to commit, and it's second down, and that was the core of the Chicago Bears, often Deceptive motion start the run in one direction, used Robiskie and his legs to move in the other direction to outflank the defense and really giving your quarterback at that point a run pass option. But it does cut down how much field you're allowed to throw into Carter in motion. On second one. Montgomery starts left, cuts it back to the right, then dives forward. For the 32 on the left cash to get the first down for the Bears on a nice job by New Orleans and not over pursuing because that run that back is starting out of the inside. Bottom cheap of the tight end. Who's right outside the left tackle in this end up running over near where the right guard was so you don't want to over. Pursue it. You want to stand your lanes. Shut down the run. Hamel going Wilson from left to right, Having had his cheek reference the moment ago, Robiskie up the right sideline looking for winds drops it in the bucket on the right sideline and Jovon whims with the catch at the Saints, 40 and out of bounds. Ah, beautiful cost from Tre Biscuit toe whims makes the catch. Now they're gonna wave it off and say incomplete. Minorities tea and gets his hand in there, and I think he lodges the ball out once winds hits the.

Travis, you get hard Get the first down, couldn't get into the end zone for the touchdown thistles. Why you moved him out of the pocket because his ability to beat you with his legs and he is so Today that if it's not there, I'm not gonna even throw the ball. I'm gonna take what you give me. Yeah, when you move a quarterback and you get him to just roll out how you cut the field in half, you essentially cut the defense and half Now I have to read just my near safety, my corner in a linebacker that's lying underneath, which is easier for me to make decisions and be quick and decisive with football. I think that because Travis Key has been perfect against the lions that, you know, maybe not three, but maybe by a field goal maybe Two or one, but I think the Bears can win this game by a slight margin. Very small, though. Yes, the lions and they they could win. Would you be shocked if they lost? Sexton. No, not known because it's the NFL. I'll be disappointed. Even with a new coaching change for the Lions. I would say that the bears defensively that's what it has to come down to. The Bears have to be able to do what they do defensively, increase their chances to win. If the Bears get in the end zone a couple times against his lines. Defense. I would think I would hope. "So it's a football Brian here on ESPN 1000 bears. Have a five game losing streak. It better not get too six. That's all I could tell you. It better not get to six. Lose to the Lions here. Now the lions have a new coach, I'll beat an interim guy Darryl Bubble. They've got obviously the advantage of quarterback Matthew Stafford versus Mitchell, Travis Key or Nick Foles. It wouldn't matter. Yeah, you could add Mitchell. Too risky and it falls together, It wouldn't matter. But you're playing here. I know there's no fans. You got a flush? What happened last Sunday Down the freaking dream period. Well, I think the defense could do that. I'm not sure the offense can. That's the whole problem. So I went back last time to watch the all 22 of the Bears game against Green Bay. And just the lack of gap discipline. I was telling you this morning like that really resonated with me more than watching the game live on Monday night. And just the this allowing the Rogers to just run free and just do whatever you want to do with the his uniform clean. That was a major issue. But the flip side of that with the offense cap is that Travis Key One thing we know about travesty before the money night game as he returns again here this season is that I'm not used to turn the ball over as much as he did, and no value of the football. No, you just you just like, you know, YOLO, whatever. I'm just gonna throw it up and just see what happened. Correct? I don't know. Like, if nothing else, you were smart enough to be able to throw the ball away when you're in peril. Just just don't throw it up just because you just hope something could happen. Do it because you have skill. Now, if you still have no feeling no touch for the game. That's a major problem. Yeah, I was disappointed. Miller. Do you remember the play? Like, okay. He took the shot down the field man. That was a stupid throw into double coverage. But whatever Matt said, Yeah, we just told him Put it down there. Let's see what? Okay when in the arm plants on first down. Yeah. When they were trailing 13 to 3. Correct. I remember pass the one that bothered me more. Was he's rolling out. He's getting pursued and he doesn't throw it away and he runs out of bounds for three yard loss, and I'm like, hold on a second. 60 years old. I'm never gonna play in the NFL. I know that if you rolled to the sideline You throw the freaking ball away like how does he not get that? The problem with that too late In the grand scheme of things, The interception is more backbreaking. But you're right in the sense that that Lends to the larger issue for Mitch. He's done that now on multiple occasions, right? I didn't like three times last year, and it's a simple It just goes to show that's a symbol processing error. You're not understanding that, Yeah, three yards ultimately may not make a big difference, but it may it may matter it, it changes up to play calls. When you are out of the pocket as a quarterback, and you have no like defender bearing down on you. You know, you should know at this point. Throw it out of bounds. I don't lose the yardage. It's a pretty simple concept that at this point most quarterbacks in the NFL understand For the remaining games that are left on the schedule. I will say that if you're trying to lose and it folds is healthy than old should continue to be the quarterback..

"Sports. Here's Jordan Burn Field. Thank you, Steve. The NFL has had pretty good luck with teams being able to plow through the pandemic without cancelation, but that is in jeopardy. Now. They were supposed to play the undefeated Steelers last night. Game has moved this Sunday due to the positives. Now their arm or the NFL may have no choice but to cancel that contest slated for the afternoon. Right now, the Bears on scheduled to play but who starts a quarterback? Sure looks like it'll be Mitch Travis Key. The back of QB has taken all the snaps and practice this week. Nick Foles has remained out with the nailing hip Bears left tackle Charles Leno practiced missed practice rather with a toe injury. "Again. The Chicago Bears easily. One of the best teams in the Chicago Land area were just so boring last night. That's the thing I don't care if you're good or bad, although better is better than worse, but Boring is the worst of them all and that just I don't think it's the worst of them all, John. I mean, that's your opinion, but we did have that one kick return and then the coach for the Vikings ran up and down the sidelines, yelling at people saying, Why did we kick it to him? And that was kind of fun to watch as he used to play for the Vikings, you know? Yeah, I know. And if he gets the ball that dude can go, so there's that, but otherwise, not a lot there. So who do you pick? Foals, Travis Key or the Norelco Santa forgotten about the new Rocco's one? I'm concerned about his arm. Norelco. Santa? Yes. But he's more accurate than Travis concerned. You know, I I think you take a shot with Travis Key. I mean, you got kids something leave that. Adam said that in his report. I mean, really, you guys want to go back to two biscuit? That is That looks like such bad management, Okay? Well, I mean, either way you're you're you're struggling you you just have to at this point is calling Kaepernick available. Will to see now 48 49. He's not that old. Okay, keep going. I'm sorry I got you, but no, I I You just try. You try different things to try to get him going. I don't want to be just like changing the play calling that didn't work. It certainly didn't. So why not? Maybe the Norelco Santa could send in some place. I mean, a Tous point, John, because you have six games left. You were five and one year five and five. So What? What more could go wrong? I mean, what? How could it be worse? How many games do we need to get into the playoffs? Well, right now, right now, you would need minimally. Now it depends. Here's the thing. Short answer Question. Well, no, but But here's the thing. There's either 14 teams in the playoffs or remember, we had this conversation last week. If Teams have games canceled because a cove ID they would expand the playoff field to 16 teams. So that enhances the bears chances of getting in right now. There's 14 teams right now, they would not be it so they need They need, I would say minimally. They need to win nine. They've won five. They have six games left. They need to win at least four. They have two games left against two teams that are combined three and 11. I like that. Well, you would think so. But those teams are also thinking. Whoa, released. We got a game left with a bear that the Vikings weren't so good. I want to say this. The governor of Illinois is lucky because he is so rich.

"Every bears game in there and awesome. Listen, Howard has two Super Bowl rings. He's a Chicago guy, former Illinois standout who had eight touchdowns in one game and he joins Tap J show every Thursday at 8 A.m.. Howard Griffith. Good morning. How are you, My friend? Big guys. How you guys doing this morning? We are doing very well. We were discussing a little while ago. The injury to Mitchell Travis Key who got on the field for one play and looks like he might have structural damage to his shoulder. Was that now practice knowing Taysom Hill is at the back of quarterback Jameis. Winston is okay. If Payson gets hurt, he gets hurt. We're using him in a defined role here. Tyler Bray is your only other option. And you get Mitch Robiskie hurt. What did you think that decision? You know if he was hurt going into this game, I mean, that's a different issue. But you've got a beautiful put a package together. I thought even after the game. They would allow Mr Healthy team, particularly the way Nick closes playing. He doesn't give you anything in the run game, so I thought having packages for Mitch was something that the Bears needed to start heading toward. But the fact that he's injured may not be able to go won't be able to go in Police is very obviously you'll really have a backup quarterback now. And you know, you put yourself in a little bit of a box, which you look this coaching fair. That's what they've been doing our year. I know that that is the curve for some teams powered by utilizing a backup quarterback to be able to run. Do you have offensive plays? But Ryan Null could've did exactly what mixed it right. All right, Like my whole disagree with it is that J P holds a Ryan All could've got three yards on the short side of the field. I just I just think that We kind of overrate Mitch in that all. He's this incredible athlete. Well, that ain't Lamar Jackson back there, You know, that's that's barely Taysom Hill. I'm just mad that the Bears had a key asset in midst Robiskie and you put him in harm's way, because just because he can run well, other guys that depth charge that can run to Well, I think we're underestimating know Mitch is isn't actually I think he's pretty athletic. When you look at when you compare him to some the order all the quarterback here. No, He's not Lamar Jackson by any steps. Very people are But I think he could have given you something. But that's why I go back to Bears really, from a personnel standpoint, have really mismanaged. You know this whole thing When you look at what the offense of line is right now, when you look at what they attempt to do a short yardage situations where now you know, now you have a quarterback. That's really can't give you anything. You know, they're just been issues on on top of issues that have created problems for the team from an officer standpoint and really, you know, I thought our Robinson who's going to be your really your most consistent player on the office. I think it's a wide receiver in the problem with that is There are a lot of the people that have to do their jobs before that wide receiver could get the football. Howard. I want to take more of a 35,000. Ft. Looked down at the Chicago Bears, so Okay, the obvious We're in a pandemic. We don't have fans that cuts into revenue fan base and sponsorships and everything else that goes into it. Everyone screaming. You cannot allow Ryan pace to pick the next quarterback and Matt Meggie. He's not a good coach. So you've got to go get a new coach. Well. I don't think George McCaskey's prepared to write millions and millions of dollars to pace for a year to two. Nagy. That means Josh Lucas and everyone else in the front office. They came with Ryan, The new guy is going to want his own people. And then a new coaching staff who probably most have multi year too like I just don't see that happening. I'm not saying if I was the owner, I wouldn't do it. I'm just trying to be realistic here. So how do you fix this thing? Do you allow the GM to pick the next quarterback? Do you bite the bullet and say we've got to build the offensive defensive lines first play whoever that how you want it, Quarterback. We're going to build it like Jim. Thanks. Did I mean this is like a conundrum? Can you bring up some some really great points when you start talking about how did you repair Wei have it going on at the college level to write college teams looking around like we can't get us in our coats right now, because of the revenue that we're losing, so I think it's absolutely you should look at it from a professional level as well. When you're losing You know, revenue the way NFL teams are, but it's going to be difficult, right? I think you have to ultimately make a decision A top right and out what it is. How do you wanna build a team who you want to build a team? That's what you have to figure out. And if you can't get on the same page, then you're gonna have to make a move. And I think ultimately If you're the G, M, you want to run the operation away? You want to? You're the head coach. You want the players that are going to help? Best fits your You know the system that you're running? I don't know that the head coach and general manager right now on the same page. So that creates another issue for you When you're trying to rebuild a team that has so many holes, I believe that you should try to build it from the inside out, meaning the defense of an offense of lives really, in this case, the offense of life and then out But you can't afford to lose a guy like you can't afford to lose it. And because he has been stable, But this is a talking on and I think it's going to come in management ownership is gonna have to come to some meeting of the minds to figure out what is the plan moved forward. I don't know. You can let Take pick your next quarterback, or if they came to this..

"300 think it was number 323. Okay, well, should the bear's turned Mitch Travis Key is the starting quarterback that seems to be the narrative nationally, it seems to be gaining some steam locally. Vote on my Twitter page at Waddle in Sylvie right now, like I said about 4000 votes, and we have 55.6% saying What? Whoa! The majority are saying, Yes, I'm in the minority. I voted. No, you voted No, for the reasons I gave you yesterday and today I still think you've backed up the truck a little bit. You've you've you've You've seen the wreckage, and now you're backing up the truck? No, no, I like being the heel on this conversation. And then the second one I have. It's it's rela. It's in. It's related to the first one. Which move would benefit the Bears offense, Mohr Hey, don't answer neither always getting neither none of the above or whatever which move would benefit the Bearsoffense Morning. Nagy, giving up the play calling duties. Or Mitch Stravinsky. Starting at quarterback. I vote Matt Maggie giving a play calling duties. We have nearly 3000 votes there about 2800, and it's overwhelming, too. Naggy giving a playcalling did and it accentuates. The biggest issue I have with him offensively is there are no adjustments. Nine. What? What is the plan? Like when they do this. What do you do in return? You know, I just looked at the numbers. Do you know how many times they ran the ball against the Lions, and they were down in that game, the majority of the game, right? Yes, And they came out early with a good run plan in those first couple of 28 carries 36 passes. And the Giants game. That was the lines came in the Giants game. You had 28 passes and 32 carries what they have happened. I don't know what you know what happens in all of a sudden you thought Joe Montana was understood that I gotta throw it 80% of the time You got excited because you saw your guy in Atlanta. Light it up when Travis Key and you thought the possibilities were endless. What I'm asking them to do is go back to the game plan you saw in the first couple weeks of the season with a different quarterback that sees the field better. Why is that? Such a difficulty? Ask, so it's not about Travis Ke that It's just about if you don't want to make any adjustments, and you might as well play the more mobile quarterback exactly like I don't think Mitch is taking it any promised land. No, And here's what Here's why I would say I was very adamant, and I'm still adamant about it. I don't think he's the answer to any question, no matter how bad Maggie is, no matter how bad the Linus you're general manager made the choice to move on from Mitch Stravinsky when he did not pick up the fifth round the fifth year option. Okay, so it's already been made front office wise with not picking up the fifth year in trading for Nick Foles, You're coaching staff. Moved on from Mitch Travis Key when they replaced him in the Atlanta game, so I couldn't wait to do it..

"Get up Had Rex Ryan Dan Orlovsky. And I believe Ryan Clark malware a in after the Bears lost in overtime to the New Orleans Saints. Here is what they say about Mitchell. Travis Key versus Nick Foles. Yes, I think that there is need to go back to mention Robiskie way and I know that's hard with the mental games. We've seen enough with Nick at quarterback for the Chicago Bears. I told everybody Nick Foles is not a starting quarterback in the league. You said anybody that would listen. He's not a starting quarterback. He's an excellent backup. Put him in a backup role. You bench the kid when he was three and all. Alright, Mr Biscuit, By the way, this organization they're brilliant. Also, they passed on. We all know it did. Shawn Watson and Patrick Mahomes. You traded up to get this kid. Why? Because he is an athlete. Yeah. Alright, hey, has a chance. And instead you has thrown him out with the bad with the bath water for Nick Bulls, who's never done it as a starter. Can't do it got beat out by Gardner Menchu and I said it from day one to go. This is a mistake, but of course you've got to go to it. It's a disaster. Right there. The kids a great backup. Jeff Hostetler was a great backup, right? Was he a great starter? Hell, though, so to me, you made the mistake your do you have the guts. Maggie to do it, because if not, I hope and I hope something happens and they don't play any great defense has left for the rest of this season. The defense is that they play our gettable, and that's why I think like that some point you're going You know what our defense is going to play really good football. But Nick is not doing the one thing I need him to do. The one thing I need to do is valuable. So when you hear that, and those are informed guys, and for every bears fan, there goes a travesty. Socks that falls has been actually worse. If you look at the numbers now he's faced tougher defense's than Mitch did. And Rex said Mitchell was three. No, Actually, he was 2.5 because Nick's want came in and one Game three in Atlanta. So I don't know, Honey, if you were coaching this team, and you saw what your getting or not getting from Nick Foles, would you go back to Mitch? No, absolutely not. So what does that say to your locker room when you go back to Mitch Stravinsky? The one thing I don't know. Maybe that you do know is that I don't know what the reaction is from that locker room One. Mitch was a quarterback was the offense down with a team not supporting him. That's what I don't know. A tip hearing is that it's a good locker room and that everyone is not down on one another and so with folds in there, did that mean that it picked it up? Does that mean that the team felt better wood poles and see that's what I don't know as faras, the entire locker room decorum and how they felt when Travis Key was in there? No, no falls is that should be the quarterback moving forward because it's really not anything different..

"Chance to talk with Devon Hester in the Devon Hester, a spokesperson for the points Bad Sports book, and they had a number out there. If anybody in the NFL returned to kick it was really nice number. I think I wager that it Nothing happened that week. But since the Bears were so bad at returning punts, and because they've actually changed their punt returner for this, we'll get into that. So the Dolphins were playing the Rams right now. And they returned a punt for a touchdown against those of the Los Angeles Rams in their offenses accounted for two touchdowns against that same Rams defense that Simon the Bears with a rookie quarterback it out earlier. That happened. I don't know. Maybe man, you go back and look and see what happened. Why they can always scored 10 points. One of them was a time I only touched it was a defensive touchdown. My Lord. It shouldn't be this difficult mentioned. It really is why the conversation was what it was this past week is the right guy calling the place. Yeah, you could imagine. I mean, they brought man Aggie in here because he was supposed to be the offensive genius. And among the questions posed to the Bears head coach this week has he given more thought to giving up the play calling? No. You know, like I was saying, this is something where we look in that everything and We feel very confident with the players we have with the place that were calling and way realize there's a lot more to it than just that. So like what I said the other day was really, you know, we always look at everything we evaluate it all. But now the only question is how could you look at the place you call and what the result has been and still be confident. I mean, are they the only ones with the honest I mean, you know, Hopefully we all kind of take a look at ourselves like what we see. And maybe one more little more objective eyes looking at the thing. I don't know where that word you know is Ryan Peyton? How's Ryan? Pace view any of this right, right. I'd like to know what his conversations with Mana G event of late. Um and look the lasers, don't it A couple. Spence is offensive coordinator, right? I'm not saying he's the greatest offensive mine in the world. But Maybe maybe a change is what the Bears need. No, I don't think it's gonna happen any time soon. Maybe they got 2 500. Someone would seriously consider it even matter, Maggie. But I mean, he's not. He's not relinquishing that anytime soon. He's just not know. And the questions didn't stop. You know, talk about uncomfortable as you're listening and had to be more uncomfortable from an Aggie, but they were coming. So after he said, No, he hasn't thought about it. The question was, well, What would it take for you to give up the play calling? Yeah, I again, That's here's. Here's what I would say Cam to that question. Is to me that feels like a you know somewhat of a negative thought that I would have in my head like when this thing's going to go so bad that I'm going to give up play calling Weather thing's going to go so bad that we're going to do this do that, And I know that that's kind of work. Where this world that today you know, there's a lot of negativity and people feed off of that, and We love all that stuff right now. Negative native. That's just not. We're out around that we try to focus on the positives. And we feel strong about that. I feel strong about it. And that's ah. I tried. You know, I understand the question, but I really try hard not to go there, you know, so it's winning's important tow us winning is important to the city. Winning's important our organization. And that's what we want to focus on right now is winning more than anything is amazing because he actually can fall back on that right now, because despite the fact the offense isn't working well in his plays are working well, they still are five to and he could. Also, he could actually fall back on the fact that winning is the Object of the exercise. Okay, but I want to go back. I think it was our first pregame show. Okay, before the opener. I believe we were talking with Mark Potter. Okay? Maybe it was a Saturday show. It was the same conversation but for the quarterback position It was what if or hypothetical when would the Bears make a move? If Travis Key will quite missed Robiskie of the last couple seasons and not new, improved right? Any marks said that Nagy basically said, same thing similar there. Well, that's a negative thought, And basically, the Bears couldn't even allow themselves to entertain that scenario. Before they got into the season, like have haven't idea of when they would make that move. Because that would just be thinking negative thoughts and thinking things aren't going to succeed the way they had planned, right? I remember that. Yeah. Okay, so The season starts, they have winning record. And in the middle of a game that things aren't going very well again. It's not like they've lost two or three in a row. He made that move right? Right, So he was quick. It was quick to make that move when it came to the most important position on the field. Why wouldn't you be have the same sense of urgency. He didn't even say well, we're three and one or whatever Hell for what he said. And we're winning, he said. We made a decision or he made a decision. That he thought was best for the team. So what? Why was why is this different Because it's him. I mean, you know You have to some point you have to say. Okay, You're five and two. Your offense is last in every major offensive in the bottom. 23 of almost every offensive categories, certainly in the bottom made of every office of category, So tell me what's working. Yeah, I understand. You're right, and it's not working. The one thing I thought was going was going to be helpful was that he brought one. Maybe it's complete opposite. I thought because he was bringing guys in that he knew. They would have enough. I'll say guts. They would have enough not to tell him that that's not working. We've tried that. That's not gonna work. Let's do something else When they're putting together the game plan..

"Well on Thursday night, when the Browns behind Baker Mayfield's 219 yards and two touchdowns Connect with Odell Beckham four times. 74 yards included the 43 yard touchdown pass. You know what the success for the Browns on Thursday was actually more about running the football. I thought that Kevin Stefanski definitely did mix up the run of the past very well. And I thought that Stefanski had a good feel and rhythm for play calling in that game, and I think the Browns are going to be a lot better with the fancy at the helm. Then they're worth Freddie Kitchens or the dozens of other Bozo that have been the head coach of the Browns over the last 20 years. But remember that Kevin's too fancy also likes to run the football and Kevin Stefanski has a very good 12 punch in Chub and Hunt and Stefanski might want to continually lean on running the football, which means that Baker Mayfield might not have a lot of chances to be throwing. Odell Beckham. They definitely got Odell involved early. They know that that's a priority. But I tend to believe that this is going to be a question and maybe a concern all season long about whether you are going to keep Odell engaged or lose Odell. And if the Browns are losing Odell Despite winning football games, That's where it's really gonna be difficult to swallow. The Browns just need to get W's. However they do them. But if O'Dell is not catching 75 yards to 100 yards and a touchdown, is he going to be happy? Even if they do get W's? Finally, Charles Davis is one of my favorite guests have here on this show? Former member of the NFL on Fox, now a member of the NFL on CBS, and he's got the Giants and the Bears coming up today for CBS. And last week, the Mitchell Travis Key for three quarters was absolute direct. He was terrible. And yet in the fourth quarter, he came alive and riddled the defense Alliance for three touchdowns and lead the Bears in a huge comeback. Can he do that today? Can Travis Key? Keep good times rolling or is Mr Vitti always going to be a flameout? A bus compared to the other guys that got drafted like Patrick Mahomes into Sean Washing here was Charles Davis on my show this week. This cannot be the high wire act beyond all year long. Remember, we spoke Tim Tebow was in the league and you know he was a phenomenon as we remember, right, but I'm willing to bet If you go back and look at numbers after he became a starter at Denver that first year when they went to the playoffs and won all those games late. Bitch is somewhere around around the neighbourhood of 5 17 throwing up until he gets hot fourth quarter they find a way to win. That means keep it close, right? That means everything has to work around you. Give you the chance to get hot. You can't do that for 16 weeks. The consistency has to start taking effect. Encouraged by advised by the comeback, no doubt because he didn't give up, but they played awfully well. But you gotta give me something those first three quarters, so that doesn't have to be a bastard Come back because that's not gonna work over 16 weeks. You're not both know that Davis.

"Just I'm just doing this out there this bear season. You have to get off to a good start. Yeah, Can't be messing around with kickers can have two quarterbacks out there before the lines game for it Snaps, But Chris The thie Travis Key Media elite will have you know Travis Key tweeters elite does this is between us. It's not media, the Travis Key tweeters elite. The alliance and Torbinski Truthers will have you know that If he is going to start a game, it should be against the Lions. As if Travis Key can be one team and one team. Only it is the Lions he's built to beat the Lions. Okay, Couple of things. I'm not even going to respond to that exit. So silly. We're gonna hear from that, Maggie here in just a second. We're gonna talk to Jordan Reed from the draft network. Get prepped for some rookie quarterbacks heading into the NFL. That conversation's coming up in about five minutes here on ESPN 1000. We have a lot of good NFL coverage. Over the next couple of nights heading into next week or eight shows away from the star of the football season. So each night at 7 35. We're going to have a segment called Back to football Week where we preview something different, either in the NFL, The Chicago Bears whatever the case may be tonight. We're going to do a 2019 Bears season in review What? What season It was Well, what I found interesting before we get too mad. Maggie is when you actually go through game by game and try and figure out what the H happened last year. It is pretty easy to figure it out. And I will be surprised if one guy will be quarterback hang into this season because back to my thesis statement, you cannot get off to a slow start in this year. And waste away this defense for another season. You can't you can't do it. Here's Matt Nagy just a couple moments ago, updating us on when he will name a starter at the quarterback position. I guess I misinterpreted what I meant by that in regard, I would. I would never have a quarterback. We're trying T first of all. I don't think it would ever work because you know, it just wouldn't But what I meant by that to keep it real simple was that there was not going to be a quarterback named this week that we're in right now. Up until that that first week, so I apologize. Made that gray. But yes, that's there will be no waiting until the middle of the week or the end of the week. Until that the hats that wouldn't be fair to our team, and it wouldn't be fair to the quarterbacks. So do you plan to name one on Monday or Wednesday of next week? That's honestly Jason that that's completely right now. We don't know that, but it would be You know, in that time frame there somewhere. I mean, it's it will you'll know by the time most teams usually no, we're not hiding anything. I think we're going through right now for us this whole process. And we don't even know that yet to be quite honest, so we're talking through like those situations and what's best and how to go about it. So we're just we're just really honestly. Not there yet. When do most teams figure out their starting quarterback situation? We'll figure it out. Like when most teams do. What This does not give me confidence at all heading into the year. The beginning of his little play, play the beginning, and I guess I misinterpreted what I meant by that In regard, I would be misinterpreted What he meant He misinterpreted what he meant by that. And I know he probably is probably just left. But I guess I misinterpreted what I meant by that. Do you hear me telling you this? I halfway through where he was like. I was kind of gray on that his head is hurting already. I'm telling you, I'm telling you, this is not. This is not a pro or con either way. Take this what it is, but I'm telling you that that one of the quarterbacks is messing with that dude's mind. Like the fact that he's not getting it. The fact that he's had to deal with him for two years now, and he's still not getting it and he's still struggling in practice or but, you know, Hey, great defensive performance by Kyle Fuller. He's still not getting it. It's just like, just just say what we just say what you want to say. Just say it. Just say what you want to say. You know who's starting? But what if the other guy doesn't look good either, causing him to even more than that when I was on Instagram and I saw bears video. I know what quarterback was featured, and that's from the team. That's from the team. Really? They feature falls on.
