Dallas Cowboys make handful of roster moves, activate Brown from IR
"Tyron Smith is now gone for the year it was announced on Friday two days ago Mike. McCarthy confirmed the report from NFL networks. Mike Fellow and Jane Slater Day before Mike McCarthy confirmed the tarrant Smith will undergo season ending surgery next week the cowboys are hopeful that he'll be back in two thousand and twenty one the Dallas cowboys already down there other offensive tackle in Lyle Collins Who Unlike Tyran Smith did not play a down this season. Also, it's worth mentioning that Travis Frederick. Retired shortly after Mike McCarthy took over as head coach his replacement if you want to call them that in Joe Looney. A sprained MC l. he is scheduled or slated I should say to miss the next two to three weeks just depends how that's going to go tyler beyond the cowboys fourth round rookie out of Wisconsin. Same place they got Travis. Frederick. Of course, seemingly is a much more stable option than anybody that's going to replace tarrant Smith or Lyle Collins but I bring all of this up to say that when my McCarthy. Signed his contract to be the head coach of the Dallas cowboys he did. So with likely knowledge that at the very least tired smitten, Lyle Collins would be playing for his football team and quite possibly unless you knew at the time that Travis Frederick was going to retire the Travis. Frederick. would be playing as well. So he's now down sixty percent of the offensive line he thought that he. Would have their many defensive players that are out Joe McCoy. One of the teams biggest off season signings is gone because he got hurt on the first day of practice and so this this team and where they are a month into the season is very different than the one Mike McCarthy sat down implant. That's all I'm saying it is definitely true that you have to adjust in the NFL. That's life things happen injuries happen with stuff happens that sports that's life like I said and so Mike McCarthy ultimately has to be held responsible for that because he's the head coach that's the hat that he wears, but it is worth saying and that's why I said now let's talk about some of these injuries and some of the roster moves the Dallas cowboys made ahead of this game on. Saturday day before this that you and I are talking day before game. Day the. Dallas. Cowboys made a handful of roster adjustments. It had been rumored all week long that Anthony. Browne would be returning from injured reserve and remember that injured reserve operates differently due to cove nineteen protocols and now nfl players only have to be on injured reserve for three weeks before they are eligible to return Anthony Brown. Is Eligible to return. It was speculated all week long that he would rejoin the cowboys they are in massive need of help in their secondary. So they officially Anthony Brown bag he is the first player that the Dallas cowboys have brought back off of injured reserve so far this season other candidates for this potential obviously include Sean Lee late and vanish. We'll see about cam irving things like that. But Anthony Brown I one. So the cowboys activated Anthony Brown. He is now part of the fifty three man roster, of course. So is Francis Bernard a fan favourite linebacker, undrafted free agent linebacker out of Utah many people, Francis, Bernard in the training camp portion of the year. Obviously no preseason he is. Now on the fifty three man roster, the cowboys have needed massive help in the linebacker. Department So far this season

"Phone. Wow Rob Gronkowski. You know. He's going to get that J. mccollum. Cj Joe Thomas here much perked up when he heard voice as we said. Hawk were recording zoom. Which is Kinda Fun? Because it's like having a buddy distraught by usually when you call somebody on the phone when you're ready but with Zoom Travis. Just all of a sudden bum rush their conversations. So we got Travis Frederick. Here recently retired Cowboy Center Former. Wisconsin Badgers. Thanks for being on the show Travis. Yeah thanks for having me. I'm excited about it. You guys do zoom recording often or is this your first time. Does that first time doing zoom so when you just busted in like the Kool aid man it was. It was a little bit surprising but it was fun. It's a lot better this way. Those are gaining all nervous. I didn't know there was going to be some audio recording. There's GonNa be some technical stuff behind behind it so I thought maybe I need to get on early so that he could that taken care for him. But you guys are all over true. True True Wisconsin man so before the for the viewers or the listeners. Got a chance. I guess viewers as well got a chance to see and listen to the conversation. You guys were talking about Joe. Wearing his own ass Wisconsin shirt and Joe tell the story. Who who you with what you got to college. Who was who was a sponsor of your jerseys so when I first got to college we were actually Reebok and they still had some of those leftover reebok shirts that you were underneath your pads and it was those Reebok midriff shirts at like the second adb pack area show off the belly button and they were like that really heavy polyester so like each shirt was four or five pounds but the best part was the shoes that they had back in those days like a regular size. Twelve shoe was about thirteen pounds. And so the transition to Dita's when I first got there as a freshman was like a huge step it was like going from the Stone Age to be in like one of the jetsons equipment that was under twenty. Five pounds felt pretty amazing and everybody made begin about it but now as most people know under armor is a apparel sponsor for Wisconsin. And we're much better off. I was under armor guide my whole NFL career still. It's fantastic stuff. If you guys can guess who? My sponsor was for my team. I went to Lido without googling. If you can guess who sponsored our team. When I got Toledo I will donate one hundred dollars to each of your charities. Russell Athletic dammit. That was actually really.

"Pro printer and HP instant INC that's HP DOT com slash. Get Real and we are back on the Bruce and the boys podcasts. You could follow me Mr Sizemore on twitter and follow my co host. Tom Royal at Tom Rile. Tb We're talking about the Dallas cowboys and moving on from the Travis. Frederick Breaking News of retirement. We're now talking about the free agency. Air Like Free Agency is open here. Even though the country is mostly shutdown free agency still occurring. Because you can do that over your phone or Apple. Watch or whatever you want to do. So so for. Nfl FANS At least you've got something to divert your mind out there exactly exactly. So since we last spoke. The cowboys came to terms with Gerald McCoy on a three year. Eighteen point three million dollar deal. Nine million guaranteed and six point one million average the cowboys do have an AL clause. Though at one year six point three five million so not a huge contract there but the biggest one that they probably Dished out so far. There are rumors Tom that the cowboys are also looking for more defensive. Tackle help in Don Terry Po. The former Kansas City chief former Carolina Panthers defensive tackle. Who's twenty nine years old but in his career has one hundred and eighteen starts. Almost three hundred tackles forty. Nine quarterback hits thirty one tackles for loss twenty and a half sacks fourteen pass breakups in two forced fumbles. That would make a pretty good combination and wouldn't wouldn't you think Gerald Acquaint Ontario? Yeah you have to wonder if the The the coaches and the staffer interested in that whole idea of of putting in the back together on the field he made it also raises some interesting thoughts about. What are they going to do with McCoy? Because you know he's had some snaps as Basically a right defensive end when you know just so happens. The cowboys are kind of looking for answers that well right defensive end and that makes you really wonder that the other thing is that Paul is. The player of the cowboys just refused to sign for years. He is that big strong one tech. He's not sweat. I always referred to as a coke machine with arms gap You know he's. He's around three forty three fifty depending upon where you look at the snap zoning too so he's not exceptionally tall. For that way just he can just forklift people sometimes. Yeah he's nasty. He's just a nasty run defender. You can look at. The proof is in his production like I just rattled off his numbers for his career. Tomba Dante Repo Guy that I remember Travis Frederick. Talking about as a rookie was his toughest match up. Because this guy is just disruptive so disruptive and we know that the defensive tackle position is always not going to be a glorified position in the NFL. But maybe the cowboys are looking at. You know Gerald McCoy and Dante Pope both from the Carolina Panthers. Maybe the cowboys saw some stuff from that defense that they light last year. Mike Nolan probably saw things up close because he played them twice per season with the New Orleans. Saints Maybe I can tell you one thing that a journal McCoy Don Terry would do. And that makes this defensive line much bigger yeah and the cowboys did get gashed over. The past couple seasons because of other teams seem to find a way to as you said just out. Muslim align That just out without digging up video and trying to go into it. The simple fact that sometimes runny games. That were nothing. Outside of the cowboys suddenly just blew up. Yeah so I think they're looking to try to stop that because as much as it is a passing. -Ly you still kind of have to take care of the run or teams will exploit bat and just get you off balance and things will just snowball on you so yeah. This is a very welcome development and I also have to wonder what Jim Thome Soula What role he's playing all of this because I think it's pretty significant and I think that people are kind of out there in Cowboys Nation. Getting really caught up in. Oh does this mean that the cowboys are going to be a three four defense? I don't really think you need to worry about three. Four four three alignment especially when you think that the league is just different. Now I mean the way. The way defenses play football. You know. You're a nickel most of the game. Anyway there's going to be four man front. Three man fronts depending on what package you are in and I think that like you said Gerald McCoy complacent ride in and he could play some defensive tackle. It just might be that instead of like where the cowboys were were. They claim to want versatility but they kind of kept people in their own in their own little situations and wherever they were. Maybe just maybe the cowboys new cowboys might Nolan. He's got other thoughts he's already valuing or seemingly valuing one tax and defensive tackle. Help I think I would like to see Gerald McCoy? And Don Terry Po in the middle which Marcus Lawrence screaming off the edge. I think I'd like to see that. Yep Okay and we also got to talk about the cowboys signing Safety Haha Clinton Dix on a one year four million dollar deal two and a half million guaranteed Clinton Dix was a guy that I wrote about blogging. The boys at the start of free agency saying that. This just made a lot of sense that the Mike McCarthy would probably use some of his connections with Clinton Dix and bring him in and I think it's a hell of a deal for a guy that I really do believe has versatility at safety exactly what Stephen Jones has talked about over the past. Couple of years. You're to be commended for seeing that. Because I don't think a whole lot of people really looking for him. I remember when they put it was announced. Always GonNa going. Oh whoa you know where that came from And it's it's also interesting that you know. Now they've got three outside free. Agent Signings Anna forefront pending. That are all defense You know because they also picked up Maurice. Candidy a cornerback left. Who's I think he's probably gonNA come in and immediately be a backup But they short up the cornerback. Room live this is not. This is not a matter of replacing Byron Jones. This giving your numbers bill back up because you gotta have so many cornerbacks and you'll have a post that I have on candidy on blogging. The boys going up in. It's basically saying exactly that Tom. That Maurice Candidate is a backup corner. Who played a lot of special teams? He started for three straight seasons at Virginia before coming to coming into the NFL. He's got some special teams ability as a punt returner as well and I just think that he's kind of a utility player for them. Yeah and somebody that they could use as a third or fourth quarter they needed to so that's also possibly a sign that okay. They're GONNA try to give John Fossil a chance to get the special teams right by giving him some more players as well so I see it like that. And don't forget that Clinton Dix has some of that same ability. He can return it so he he may be part of that whole factor too and the key thing that the thing that counts. The prize me is that it came on a forty million dollar deal sale at safety market Tom. If it's Gary strange to read because some guys who you think are pretty good and could command more money than they actually get end up just signing one year deal so they could hit free agency again the next year and now interestingly. I just did a piece. That should be coming up shortly on blogging. The boys with a writer named Eric from Windy City Gridiron. I would mention his last name but it's thirteen letters long and German and I've got no clue how to pronounce it. Not even try that one eric via yeah but he he and I talked a little bit about you. Know he asked five questions about Robert. Quinn and I asked five questions about Clinton Dix. When now I'm curious. What did he say? Well first off. He said that he thinks Clinton Dix get some op. Bad raps on being a bad tackle and stuff Which was to be highly encouraging? he said that when Clinton Dix was in Green Bay that in Eric's viewpoint he had just about carried. That Davis. Yeah Oh but he had. He said he's not a character problem. He's got a lot of other good things. They always not perfect player. But you know he's if you're looking for a a a a free safety center fielder type He says he's got a lot of potential to help the team. But what struck me when I was thinking about all? This is how the cowboys are kind of looking to do with him. What they did with Robert Quinn because It sounds a little bit like because of the players around him. The coaching and stuff that Clinton Dix wasn't really used as effectively In Chicago and Eric Kahn of in and around at that Robert Quinn wasn't being used effectively in Miami. So Robert Quinn. Signs are brought. Acquaintances traded for on a one year. Deal comes to the cowboys has a blow up here You know and turns out to just be a one year rental. But he's leaving the cowboys running to get more in a come compensatory pick than they gave up for him in the first place. They're not stuck with the dead money or anything. They got the production So you know it was. It was a short term win for them and in long-term has no native. I think they're looking at Clinton Dix very much in the same light. Yes I look at Clinton Dix. I I wrote about him. I'm blogging the boys to earlier in the week. And here's what I look at. Because I also heard you heard which was people talking about his tackling ability. But if you look at the last three seasons and you compare it. Clinton Dix to jeff heat the Nick Savior Woods who have been the cowboys. Starter Byron Jones. Starting one season at safety if you look at it. They've all averaged about the same amount of games played. They've all play about just about every game that they played so forty eight games. Forty five forty eight games. But you'll get ha ha Clinton dix. Two hundred and fifty tackles two. Jeff heats two hundred nineteen and eggs Xavier Woods 175. I don't see that as you know what I missed tackles. But we don't know the context of exactly what they're talking about their Jeff. Heath is a big time tackle for loss guy over his career with the cowboys. He had eleven in the last three seasons. But what I see the difference here is that Xavier Woods Jeff Heat than ha ha Clinton dix have all broken up. Seventeen passes the con- like come their way..

"Know dax zeke in amari is the talk in dallas but why is no one paying attention to drive fred travis frederick edrich coming back in my opinion top-three center in the league is coming back to a great online and having heard a word about it. I'm gonna put this about as simply simply as i can. No one cares about offense lineman really until they're gone you know in this league the talking point quarterbacks and skill guys coaches. We don't talk about guards and centers. You know it's kind of hill kind of bores me and i talk about football living. Now i hear you. He's a stud if he's plan. They're in good shape if they can get their starting alignment on the field and z. comes back in dax. They're in a marriage. They're they're good defense really good. I i've kind of i mean i might lean picking the cowboys to the super bowl. I'm becoming a little less confident with zeke. He's come back from kabo of jerry's gonna trade him and what the hell's going to happen. Amari is kind of banged up with a bad he'll but i don't know so i. I just think it's simple. Did the people get the casual fan in most people that probably listen to this aren't like breathing twenty four seven football stuff and no every offensive line but fantasy fantasy football. You know the quarterback's you know the skill guys running backs. We just don't care about centers. You know even the best ones. I got rodney hudson my backyard rodney hudson. It's been a top. You know probably ten offensive lineman in the n._f._l. For five six straight years i bet most n._f._l. Fans can point them out in the lineup. Okay okay you think he's embarrassed this on well a._b._c. You think he's embarrassed about his dumb ass with the cryotherapy and his feet are worse than everyone thinks h._b._o. In the middle of your playing career What can you share any of the? Conversation and what's the best hope you think for the Cowboys Senator possibly play this year Yeah you know you just never know and you know obviously I've talked to Cowboys I had Guillaume beret syndrome when I played as, far as, I know I'm the only player to ever have. It during their career and, comeback after an. And continue to play you know, it could, be devastating it is everybody affects differently I, did. A whole podcast distinct intrude podcasts I do the whole. Podcast on you know. My experience and. And new l. tell you man. I felt bad all season about halfway through. The season I wasn't playing well something was wrong we could, put a finger on I had. No idea what was going on then I start. Losing all feeling on my feet and hands and I ended up going on. I r for the second half of the season I lost all the feeling. Of my arms and legs for about, six months when I finally got back only. From two ninety five about two thirty five when I finally got back in July go back to training camp the following season Still week still have, probably three or four toes that were numb And I did not regain my strength and and start. To feel well, again until probably November December of nineteen ninety four so. For me it was kind of about a seventeen month recovery process from the time I started feeling something was wrong to lose the feeling of my. Arms, and legs going on are coming back and starting to play well again was the following year so. That the thing about. That is that Travis Frederick could feel. Strong they, can treat him he could feel good affects your nerves you know it's your. Own body's immune system attacking the waxy protective coating over your nerves so the, signal from your brain to your, extremities as a player gets interrupted and that's why wasn't playing well like I, would, be blocking a guy and, your brain, would tell your foot hey, you gotta move another foot you know. Another eight inches or whatever and and that signal, would get, interrupted so, all of a sudden I'm blocking the guy I mean great position and then I'm on the, ground and the guys around me hit my quarterback and I'm like what What the hell's going on well I didn't know that, signal was getting interrupted so even, if you feel great on the outside you regain your strength you know I, don't, know how that's going to, affect the, nerves for Travis Frederick and, his doctor doctor said the odds have. Been playing in in the next couple of weeks, it's greater, ause that, he won't play at all this season then he will come back in the next couple of, weeks Cowboys have been supported to say they care first and foremost about. Travis Travis is health and, wellbeing more so than you know just hey we need to have. This guy on the field so it sounds like the Cowboys. Are smart they should plan without Travis Frederick Twenty-eight thousand season Yeah I would I would say the odds of him being back. And being, you know Travis Frederick that we've grown accustomed to watching or, are probably, probably not great you know there is a chance that he goes back after six eight weeks. And starts playing again and does okay, and plays like the. Travis credit Prager we've grown accustomed to, watching but again it's scary. And look, at the transition in Dallas right now you, know you've got two left tackle who's, a supremely gifted guy in Smith that has chronic back. Issues your center has got YoM beret syndrome you're you're right guard Zack. Martin who is a phenomenal player hurt his knee and, camp, I, mean you know things right now on the surface. Don't look great for the Dallas Cowboys but. That's the thing that's beautiful about. Sports and competition You get your opportunity you gotta take advantage of it. And you, never know what's going to happen martial earth last question for, euro teammate, John Elway he's running the Broncos won Super Bowl fifty he's lost some good people around him. Like the great Tom Eckerd who in. The personnel department they. Drafted Paxton Lynch that was clearly amiss, and head coach Vance Joseph. Has been, in on the hot seat here so how, should we look at John and how, he's running things right now two thousand eighteen for Denver Well you know it's really interesting they have gone. From kind of a stopwatch, draft philosophy to hey. We gotta go, out and the. Film doesn't lie and forget about what these guys running the forty let's go get great football, players and I think Gary kubiak had a lot to do with. That he's come back to the organization you this. Draft class they're going to have six or seven guys that contribute just out? Of this draft class alone I'm telling you. Bradley Chubb is the real deal Portland Sutton, compla- day Sean Hamilton. Is flat, out a, player Josie jewel is a great, young player is is is a you know a player that needs experience, it has gotten a little bit in the preseason but he's got good football accurate good football sense. And, awareness Royce, Freeman is probably. Going to be a starter for them I mean this is, deep, and philosophical approach they they have screwed up the draft they have really hurt themselves in John John. The hundred percent responsible you know. I mean he that's where the buck stops but I gotta give. Him credit for kinda completely changed the draft philosophy and, I think this draft class I'm over there a bit over there every day of training camp They've got some young. Players that can flat out play the game, so this fall remember. "When do you think see Schleyer throats should extre cowboy fans be nervous starting this season. The thing about the Cowboys is what's happened since training camp to me would have made them nerve already. I was nervous about the wide receiving group. Are they going to be good enough that Dallas can get to double digit in wins, but that offense of line man that Israel Tyron Smith does have a chronic back. He's practicing now, but it's giving him problems the last couple years as for an office. I know you're gonna go through it, but on Tyron Smith is if you're gonna chronic blank injury is back the worst for an offense of Lyman, chronic knee, chronic shoulder, chronic ankle. I just think with as far as doing your job at that position is the squatting that you do. You're always gonna have bad knees, the shoulders amount of reps you extending yourself punching. You're going to have bad and all that impact like you are sitting bracing. To take on a guy to fifty to three hundred pound. It's a lot of pressure on your body. I wouldn't none of our good, but it's hampered because bad backs lead the hamstring problems in other lower extremity problems. So none of our good. It's just something we must continue to watch to see if he ever gets that behind him. Like we'll he'd be able to practice on a regular basis because that's very, very important of how good he is. Go ahead and you're going through, you're going to go down the line traffic Martin. I mean, these are not just ordinary oftens lime and I'm concerned about Minnesota injuries. They have an offense a line, and those are ordinary often slime these are great offense of Lyman on a team that is led by the running attack, and they need them to to play great on their depth chart. Right now. They got Travis Frederick. Now when I heard things, comments, I thought he was just talking about Travis Frederick. I'm not nervous about the Cowboys and what I've seen this preseason eight turnovers. Most of those guy. Touch the ball. They're not going to be held in the ball. If I, if it was e- farmland terrace, whims Funland guys like that, cold Beasley, cutting wrap tape, and he was, I would be concerned. I'm not concerned about that, but I am concerned about Travis Frederick and his overall, what is his diagnosis win? Will he be back because I think he is probably the most important linemen that they have not just because he calls the signals not because he calls the defense because overall athleticism in how in the run game and industry screen game, he can get on the perimeter, you interrupted yourself, but I think what you're gonna say, you're looking at their depth chart. Jesse, Travis Frederick is now stirred team, oh, because they know the reality of it and in conversations with stink and just listen and getting more information about what he's going through. Man. This is a scary, scary situation. So if I was just talking about Travis alone, I would be nervous about the Cowboys in two thousand mentioned the running tack, besides Ezekiel alien, what obviously they're going to do with him. What do you think the. Cobb is it can be best at this season. If they're going to have any shot, it's going to be the front seven festively. Like if we're talking about the Cowboys as a good team after Zeke, it's going to be, oh, they get after the quarterback tackle well in space that the yards after catch by running backs and tight ends against the Cowboys or some of the lowest in the leagues. They got Sean Lee and Jalen Smith running all over the field rainy. Gregory looks like the guy who could have been a top ten pick just we can absolutely. Nick says this guy, Randy, Gregory reinstated. I talked about my relationship with him trying to help him get through rehab ultimately seen how hard he wanted this writing the letter for the National Football League in his reinstatement. So he is doing tremendous bake. They got at least four guys. They can come off the edge and put a leap pressure on the fan. When I say he was going to be a top ten pick. That's that's not hyperbole like, no, that is the second round. Pick with multiple drug infractions coming out of copyright. So that's, that's all the you need usually a player with his drug profile outta college, yes..

"But he, he said it took about five weeks with with some ivy's and physical therapy for him to get back to feeling like his old self. Now, obviously, my brother at the time was a thirty something music teacher at a public school in Brooklyn, not professional athlete, but at the same time he wasn't asked to do a whole lot of reach blocking in his job. So Frederick is I think it's I think he's going to be Travis Frederick again at some point in two thousand eighteen. But I think we could be looking at like a four to six week type of thing here. And boy, they do not have a whole lot of margin for error in Dallas considering what the, what, the basically what the lack of receiving weapons and really a need for per for dact too. Kinda stand on his head a little bit in the passing game. And then obviously they need the run game to carry them. We talk all the time about injuries in something we say is that there are only about fifteen to twenty guys in the league non quarterbacks who if you take them out of the lineup, it can drastically change the entire offense or their entire defense. Everyone else to a certain degree. There's an element of next man up in that, yeah, to downgrade when the backup comes in, but we can still at least run our system and try to play the way we've been approaching things all off season and all season so far. So having said that Travis Fredericks, one of those fifteen to twenty guys. And I think if you take him out of Dallas lineup that does significantly impact their outside zone running game, which impacts play action game, which impacts the rest of their passing game. He is a big time important cog for them. It's it's partly him and partly the position he plays when you're an outside zone running team, you need a center that Cain, as you said, reach block which your your brother was never asked to do, but Frederick do all the time yet. Yeah. Yeah, and a reach block just to kind of visualize it for someone picture, you're the center and think there's a defensive tackle kind of shaded over your right shoulder. You've got a snap the ball and get around that. Tackle gotta move to your right and pin him back in science. You gotta cross over the defenders. Face takes a lot of quickness and refined technique, especially because you have to snap the ball for. So you're already starting out a half beat behind because that's how it is for centers Fredericks. The best in the NFL at it. I think second best is Alex pride, Jason Kelsey than Alex Mack, pick your order there. But those three guys are big in their offense is in Dallas is more of an outside zone running offense than those other teams. So I do think the other thing they did Gary was they pulled Frederick and Zack Martin a lot last year, it's called a g. sweep run where the guard in the center just basically pull out wide and the running back goes behind him. That also probably goes away Fredericks out of the lineup. And that's their biggest run in Dallas. Yeah. And they Zack Martin obviously where we're still a couple of weeks away from the opener here, but Zack Martin might be questionable for that one. And obviously that Tyron Smith battling some some issues the last couple of years. So y'all we, we've kind of talked about this off season, how much longer can the Cowboys offensive line perform at. At this level and you know, I don't know. Maybe this is a sign that it might be might not be too much longer. Well, I, I hope not. These guys are all in their mid twenties. This is a sign and they've already reached their apex, and there's gonna be a thirty for thirty one day about what could have been with this Cowboys. Offense of Lang is this lines is good as the one that won those Super Bowls for the Cowboys in the nineties. All right..

"They can ill afford to leave these two guys that Martin he looked like. He probably back, I doubt play anymore in the preseason with the hyperextended knee, the more uncertain is Travis Frederick dealing with the auto immune deficiency disease that he's dealing with. But if you lose those two guys and the lack of playmakers that they already are insufficient on offense, as you mentioned, there's no tied into puts fearing, there's no receiver that puts fear and you. You need to run the football with a with the Indian play action of and maybe you're gonna get someone on one covers because they got drop that guy down in the box. It's not the run skip. They got to. They got really three play on this entirely obtain Sean Lee, DeMarcus, Lawrence, while like to see a bigger body of work in the, that's it. That's it. Now you lose to offense and I know Roz Mark did some good things filling in, but eat rod man, rod it. But if you lose those two guys, it's hard for me to a magin that they're going to be able to run the football. Affect avidly as without. I just, I just don't see. I just can't see a situation. You lose two of the top five or six inch alive all of football, and you're gonna be able to do exactly what you wanted to do offense. I just don't see a scenario with that happening and where they had the most success in twenty sixteen ball control. They control the clock and they kept their defense off the field. And when they hit the field, they were fresh and they could get out, they play a lot of maps. They're gonna get worn down. So you're telling me that no defensive coordinator in the National Football League fears. Blake Jarwan. That's their new tied in jar. No. No. No, that's my new titan, like judge yoga, whatever the other guy thought you like Rico you about re though you tell me all Rico. He's watching why just missing the boat on guy. He's a big basketball. He's six feet six inches. Look, I've been watching him ever since he came off the basketball court at Baylor to a couple years now and have always been like the Cowboys. I'm sure intrigued by his potential in the end zone. Okay. Read, yes to do that. But here's the problem. The guy. Hasn't played much football and terms of not only being able to recognize coverages on the fly as you're playing and just really instinctively and fanning you being tight end. Yeah, no, as well as anybody. But talk about this for a second mister sharp Mr. hall of Famer. The the skill of blocking for I didn't even if you're not quote unquote a big time rocking tied in how difficult it's seems to me that Jerry saying he, he can block once he knows who to block the thing for him is that when people move around it, like he freezes? And that's the tell you coach told me they signed blocked a head up inside most dangerous man. That's what we go with that situation and see, I guess from reading with Jerry said, if long as the guy doesn't move or the defense station there, he's good skill, but you know, no defense goes stationary. That's the whole negative move erotic called computer. So he's going to have to pick up those things. There's nothing like playing football player, put ball, either basketball guy that doesn't have a whole lot of football played up under his belt. So so I'm here to predict that one. Joe looney is an the Nick foles of backup center. Gonna come in and just he's gonna make the Pro Bowl is Joe looney. I don't think so. Well, let me give you a little silver lining in the, you know, half full half empty equation here when it comes to him of all the Cowboys backup lineman, right? We know how good they're good. Yeah, he's like the best of the backer, but. Okay, Nick foles of the back of centers. I don't know. I will go that. You. No, you can't say that, but but maybe you talking about a guy who is in his seventh year, he's been around. He started thirteen games. He's had a lot of reps with the first team and he's had to on here and there. So it's not like you're lying on just garbage man. Jarrett bell..
"travis frederick" Discussed on First Things First
"I think if you would've added some too, I think they can be the best deep bowl combo in the league this year potentially. I don't think they're going to be the best quarterback wide receiver dual Mahomes essentially a rookie and tyreek does certain things very, very well as a wide receiver, but he's obviously not your prototypical can do it all run every round on the route three wide receiver. But I think this type of play they can be the best in the league at that Mahomes on Cork's one entire gets behind the defense. I do believe that. Yeah, I believe the NFL in most plays unscripted. Like when the quarterback scrambling entire decides to go deep, I think they're going to be very good at that. That's not hard to get in sync with a young quarterback, but the combination of Kelsey, Sammy wok as they should have a special group of why. Now as a group, I wish he would have said that as a group, we can be the best in. NFL because he has no chance of being the best NFL wide receiver. I will end with one of Dak Prescott, offensive lineman center. Travis Frederick. Frederick was diagnosed with key NBA syndrome, and it is unclear one. He will return see how the loss of Travis Frederick impact in the Cowboys offense. This season, we talked about Dallas and. In the mount of resources that they have put into their offense of line and you have Zeke enac on their first contract. So if that offensive line, they really can't sustain injury because they are the heart and soul of that football team. The defense who we believe is going to be better and I believe can be top ten defense, but they're not gonna be as affective if they have to play thirty one minutes a game and that time possession that the Cowboys because they can't run the ball. Now, besides a left tackle a sinner is the most important cog to offense of line because he is the quarterback. He's calling the protections, he's making all the line Justice for all the line stunt. So a center is very, very important, and we want our quarterback in Daqing your three to grow meant Travis Frederick, not being in there that's going to hurt that. So he's got more responsibility and reading the front rating, the defense and. Helping the line, make sure they get into the into the right calls, and it's it's unfortunate injury. I had never heard of if I didn't have my good friend Mark, slayer that gave me the information. I listened to a podcast with the information on it, man. This is awful, very, very scary stuff you talking about paralysis. You tell my long-term damage potentially. Now they did get in their diagnosis quick and he's already received a second treatment. So the prognosis does look good. But I mean, there's a chance he might miss all the season. I don't believe the Dallas Cowboys can recover from Travis Frederick, who's probably the best that his position in the league. So that last part is a key part. We talk about their offense align the three great off into lime. They have Tyron Smith is one of the best left tackle in football, and at times is the best Zack. Martin is one of the best guards in football, and you could argues the traffic's Frederick is the best center in the league. Like he's the best what he doesn't. Let's also not forget how did the Cowboys spend their second row. Round pick on an offense of Lyman rookie who they would like the aerobically to play right tackle. You know, who rookie right tackle would like to have a veteran awesome center telling about the checks, the protection shifts, different things that Travis Frederick can do pre snap. That is one of the reasons of in addition, everything he does posts that makes him as good as he is. And this is we talk about teams adding to their strength, the eagles they great d. line. Let's go add more d lineman. The Cowboys are now subtracting from their strength and nobody's got a deep offensive line. That's the things you want to deep d- line..

"You don't know if the treatments going to. There's plenty of people that have been through the treatment and and you know seven years later or still have paralysis, right? There's there's plenty of this that goes on, so you just not to scare everybody today, but this is just the reality of of this particular auto immune deficiency or immune disease. So very scary stuff I've gotten. I've fielded calls from every journalistic, you know, every radio station and paper and everything else in in the Dallas area and and USA today, and the athletes and everywhere else. So I just wanna to make sure I put this out and kind of give you my story in and kinda my recovery and and the thing is, is I went on to play another seven years in part of. Couple of world championship teams in in so, and you're completely go down. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. No, nothing. Nothing residual. No, nothing at all. So, but you know, it was a scary journey. Don't no question about it and it took a recovery took, you know, the better part of the year and a half, but but really six months of with numbness, numbness, extremities. Yeah. Yeah, pretty scary stuff. So hoping the best for him, obviously, shoutout to Travis in end of the Dallas Cowboys and and just hoping that he has a fast and quick recovery and we can enjoy watching him play again this year. All right, Mike. Well, it's great to have you back buddy. I appreciate you, but no more laughing. Okay. No more Joe? No. All right. Sorry about that. That's the sticky truth podcast. It was a big, thick knife film fan, stuck right into the wood floor. They would've just penetrated. It appears to my foot. You couldn't move you foot. Didn't allow your brains like, say, move your foot, and I'm going damn, oh him in the foot because that thing did not. It didn't move an inch. I couldn't. The signal will get interrupted. So getting back to so go, I mean, incredibly crass on my part here. But I mean, what about like taking care of yourself? You know, like, you poop, you know? Yeah. Could you wipe your ass or what they need a wiper? No, I, you know, I mean, you just like if your finger broke through to a bit, we just didn't, you know something touched your, but, but you didn't know what it was like. Oh. Mean I can fight my. Oh, sorry. Are you laughing? No, but seriously like, whoa. Hello. Doctor doctor about a court low. Yeah. Feel it, but you know there were things that you, let's just say that all guys could relate to there were there are certain things that you could do, and you just didn't quite have the same kind of feel like an episode of ghost Mike. I'll leave it at that. So no, but but seriously, you know, going back to got injectable folks. Okay. But still going back to Travis Frederick. I mean, I think the thing you have to start to understand is everybody's affected differently. I visited, you know, lots of people in the hospital who had this. It's still in some cases, fatal. In some cases, there's permanent paralysis. Like some cases like me, there's complete recovery. You just don't know, every case is different. The thing about Travis is he was diagnosed quickly and he's already been treated. Now the way they do this and like this is just from me talking to people and, and I've talked to the Cowboys. They didn't confirm this, but they do these blood transfusion things, and they treat you with steroids and they try to get you back quickly. So I think those things those that's part of the deal and they've already talked about him having to treatment. So I'm assuming that just me assuming that those are the things that are going on. But again, you have no idea. His own doctor came out and said the odds of employing the, there's greater odds that he misses the entire season that he plays in week one. So for me, this thing came on in nineteen Ninety-three before training camp, the middle of. Thousand ninety three. I went on, I r I was on my feet, enhance were known for the better part of six months. I started working out again in April. I still had numbness in my feet. By the time I came back to camp. I'd only gotten back to two seventy two seventy two. And a couple of my toes were still numb through training camp. I did not have my full strength. I did not recover where I felt like I was fully strong again and like I was back to myself intil probably week eleven or week twelve of the ninety four season. So for me, this was almost a six month or or I mean, I like a sixteen eighteen month ordeal that that I went through this. So like every day as quickly as it came on over the course of just a few days, it was from tingling in my fingers to my entire hands in l. up to my elbows being completely numb. Same thing, tingling, my toes to all the way up into my knees over my knees being numb. And then it would dissipate like every every week or two you'd notice, oh, it's, you know what? I've got a little bit revealing up toward, you know, in my lower near you now. So it would slowly slowly almost new dissipate until the point work. I said, I came back to training camp, but I'm going through training camp and I still have a couple toes it or numb, and I'm going back to playing again..

Now you're telling me that Dakyns each get thrown completely rusty into the opening game at Carolina. I don't love it. But to your point, Jerry closes those remarks by saying, but I'll leave that up to Jason. Well, if that's true, then played dash gonna play. They're both been a play. Just look what bell check did with a makeshift offense of line. He tried to start a win. Left tackle, and he immediately got hurt right loss. I think he's gone for the year with his. Yes. You can't simulate that in practice. Trust me. You can do all the situation. Okay. If thirty five seconds, they have the clock. Give me learned in three and you get all that is not the same as a preseason. Game because things are different. You know, different. Everybody else knows different. I get with Jerry. Thanks. I really do because do you? He's saying the risk reward. No, Travis Frederick knows that Martin. That's right up the heart. So if somebody really wanna get the deck, they take the guidance. Okay. You play them back up guys there. So I get what he's saying but don't say that's that Jason, that decision. It's like he already made that's already made your mind up that you're not gonna play those two, but skip for running back. Zeke is going to touch the ball. If what's being said is true that he's been studying Marshall Faulk and he wants to be more viable option in the passing game. That means his three hundred three hundred and twenty-five thirty carries is going to be adding onto another fifty plus a catch it. So now you're talking about three hundred sixty three hundred eighty touches. Do you really want him touch? There's no easy position in the NFL all of its tough, but the eaves position. To play. As far as transition, God given natural ability is running back by the ball, a run to the open hole worst case scenario, no matter what run to the open hole you can do that can do that in this leap. I'm not concerned about z. not. Here's wind might be something entirely different because you only get input ball shaped now, playing football.
