"Alvin Kamara. So I've, I've read all of these stories. How his, what was his right leg? Was two pounds bigger than his left leg or whatever they found like his, his old muscle distribution was way off and they fixed it. And now he's like this refurbished Ferrari. Yeah. I mean, look, here's the thing on him, obviously. So he's got the three game suspension. He's somebody that has been banged up as well. So we know he's missing three games immediately needs to stay healthy as well. This is somebody who last year had a 18% target share, had seven different games with over a hundred total yards, only six running backs had more five straight years of averaging 18 or more touches a game. But last year he had in week eight, he had a 42 point game. If you take, if he had that monster, crazy game in week eight, take that game away. And if you take that game away, he averaged 12.1 points per game, which would have been running back 24 on a points per game basis last year over his final nine games from week nine on last year, he was the 36th best running back in fantasy on a points per game basis. Averaged under 33 receiving yards last year, a career low. Who is quarterback that was Andy? Andy Dalton, Trevor Simeon. Who else was Taysom Hill? Who else was QBing? Jamis Winston. When he was a quarterback. So if Carr is a little bit, if Carr can just be competent and then Kamar comes out of suspension, that would be the case, right? Plus the fact that he realizes now how to distribute the muscle in his legs or whatever that story was. That's the pro argument is that Derek Carr is a step up that he's, that Kamara has, you know, has regained a step and he gets back to being, you know, because he's not going to cost you the kind of draft pick he has in previous seasons. The anti Kamara argument is that again, he hasn't been good for a couple of years. He's struggled with injuries. He's missing three games. They have Jamal Williams, who was certainly solid last year. They have Kendra Miller, who I like a lot as a rookie. Taysom Hill is always there to vulture a handful of touchdowns as well. All of a sudden you're like, okay, well again, I mean, this is crazy. He's had 400 in the last two years, Alvin Kamara has had 463 carries and he's got six rushing touchdowns in the last two years, six rushing touchdowns, only six rushing touchdowns on 463 carries. But the fact of the matter is, it's just like, I'm out on Kamara this year and I could be wrong, but that's a guy with another wide range of outcomes because to your point, if they, if they've refurbished him and he's ready to go and he comes out of the, you know, comes out of the, uh, the suspension, ready to prove everyone wrong and, you know, ready to show the world he's back. Okay. Running backs and receivers. I always just like going to the pro football reference and just looking at the body of work. You know, he had 16 touchdowns in 2000 or 2020, but then, you know, the last two years, you know, 900 yards rushing, 400 plus yards receiving. And it's that, it's this mystique of, Oh, I have Alvin Kamara on my team. He's fucking incredible. He's destroyed playoff weeks for whoever, but he, that guy might be gone. Cause when the, you know, Hopkins was in that spot. Julio Jones was in that spot. Whereas like Julio Jones, two years ago, anytime you're a two years ago guy, I start to get nervous because football is pretty unforgiving. We don't have like a ton of awesome fantasy comebacks from guys in, in, in football. And that's, that's what we were talking about at the top of the pot about Deshaun Watson. Right. I mean, again, like, and I got another, I know, I got another couple of years ago guy for you. Oh, okay. Calvin Ridley. Tough, really tough one. A year off, new team. I'm not sure I loved him to begin with. He was like one of those good, but like, I'm not sure how great he was guys, but was putting up stats. I test wise, never completely jumped out. He, the last game he played in the NFL, October 24th, 2021. That's the last time we saw him. He turns 29 in December. In 2021, he had a 59% catch rate. He got a career low 5.4 yards per target. He was playing through a foot injury and you know, didn't have great quarterback play. So you can excuse all that. Um, he's going to Jacksonville. We love Trevor Lawrence this year. I'm really excited about Lawrence and year two of Peterson's offense. Um, it looks like from the preseason, it looks like it's going to be him and Zay Jones on the outside with Christian Kirk in the slot. Uh, so he's going to be out there on every two receiver set, but on the other hand, like you've got Zay Jones and Christian Kurt and Evan Ingram and Travis ETN, like there's a lot of mouths to feed and that Jaguars offense along with Calvin Ridley, the hype on Ridley's gone really high. He, you know, his ADP is pretty high across the board and multiple sites. And again, October 24th, 2021, like it's been a year and a half since we've seen him play football. He's 29, but he's a weird one. He's I mean, like, again, could be top 15 fantasy wide receiver. Could be awesome. Could be like a guy that flashes here, you know, could be like Zay Jones, which is Zay Jones had a handful of good games last year. In other games, he just wasn't the guy. Well, the case for Ridley, Trevor Lawrence last year, 4,100 yards, 25 TDs and felt like he was coming on as the year was going along. So a Ridley pick is really a Trevor Lawrence pick. You're saying, I think he's going to be at 4,700 yards this year and 36 touchdowns. And who is that going to, but I'm with you. He seems overvalued to me. And I thought Kirk was becoming more of the guy for them anyway. Like I, I'm going to take a Jacksonville guy. I'd rather have Kirk. I thought Kirk was good last year. He just took shit because of the contract. He, a hundred percent. He was very good. I think Lawrence, like I, Lawrence was on when I was trying to come up with my fantasy ride or die this year, Trevor Lawrence was on my short list and I thought it was a little bit too obvious. So I ended up, I, and I didn't want to do a quarterback again, but like, I think Lawrence has a monster year. I think he's going to be really, really good this year. But the question is whether it's all going to Ridley or if it's just distributed about everyone. And it's, this isn't a great comparison, but like more, like Mahomes where Mahomes has a monster year and just all the other guys other than Kelsey, you know, or just get sort of this kind of works out. Yeah. Well, yeah. One, one week it's a Ridley game. Next week it's a Evan Ingram two touchdown game. And the week after that it's a Christian Kirk game. And then it's two dump offs to Travis Etienne that he scampers. And you know, like it's just, I don't know. Um, but Ridley's one of those guys as well. That could, could be awesome. Could be, you know, not worth it. So how many, how many do we have left? I've completely lost track. You tell me. So Kyle counts nine. So we have, we need one more make or break ceiling floor. Guys, who is it? And then I'm going to give you one, I'm going to give you my number one. Okay. Uh, like there's a couple of, there's a couple of guys that are ceiling floor guys. I'll give you some, I'll give you some nominations and then I'll give you my last guy. Like I think the Andrea Hopkins is on the list. I think, uh, cross them off. No, I think, I think, uh, Keenan Allen's on the list. I'm in on Hopkins this year for the record. I'm in on, on Hopkins this year. I prefer Mike Williams to Keenan Allen at ADP, uh, this year. But here's a guy, Kyle Pitts.

"I prefer Andre Stevenson. Like there's just a bunch of guys that you just you don't feel great about and they're being drafted there because, oh, there are running back. And so I don't love that particular area. And I'd much rather wait a little, I'd either get a superstar running back, first or second round, maybe even two, but if you're not doing that, if you're not getting at least one, then I would wait until after that, you know, four to 6 round running back dead zone, as I say. And then a little bit later, there are guys with more upside that I prefer Ramon Dre Stevenson, AJ Dylan, to give you an example. Travis Etienne sometimes slips, you know, like chase Edmonds, you know, I think has a nice year here. Those kind of guys. Gotcha. Can you even check your Twitter mentions? No. Every once in a while, I will. I have them, Jimmy, I have them at this point. I have them so filtered. You know, I have like, I have them, you know, in terms of high quality and. Anyway, so I will occasionally check my Twitter mentions, but not like it has to, you know, Twitter does a good job. I have a lot of people muted. Other people blocked as well. When the season starts, when the season starts, how it usually goes is and it was supposed to last year because it was on behind a paywall that people would just complain about, love hate being buying a paywall. But the normal progression is, is love hate comes out on Thursday. And I get nothing but love, I get love and questions, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday till kick-off. Right. Well, the column love the story, great fact. Who should I start? You know, this guy, that guy. That's what it is. As soon as kick-off happens, then they're MF ing me, then they're gonna have a piece of shit. You are exactly. I will say this though. Because it's interesting. And I'm gonna be fascinated to see what it's like now. Just being super honest here. That the day before, you know, in social media wasn't nearly as prevalent then as it is now, but like when I joined the day after I joined ESPN versus the day before I joined ESPN. Like whatever good, whatever level of analyst I am, whether I'm the greatest analyst ever or the worst analyst or somewhere in between. Whatever level that is, it didn't change the day I got to ESPN. But the day I got to ESPN, the feedback I would get, whether it was, you know, on Facebook at that time or from emails, it's like the minute I became ESPN's senior fantasy analyst, which was my title. Suddenly was just like, I had to know everything. Hey, absolutely. How do you not know everything a 100% perfectly? Right. And so it was super weird that literally like when I was just on my own site, you know, people were very happy for me. And then when I got to ESPN, there was just this anger. That makes sense. I got it. And it'll be interesting to see what happens now at NBC. I will tell you for all the negativity towards I will say this. I did read my mentions every single one of them. When I announced I was leaving ESPN. And we kept it really quiet. I was actually surprised it didn't leak. Thanks team to have a way of escaping, especially at ESPN. So I was surprised it didn't leak and so I think it took a lot and I hadn't really been talked about Peter king mentioned in my call and it is Colin but people hadn't really talked about the fact that I think you mentioned it in your column two, but people hadn't really mentioned that I was potentially going to be that there was an opportunity for me to potentially leave ESPN that that might be coming up soon. And so I think it took a lot of people by surprise when I announced my leaving and you never know like are people going to care? Are they going to are they going to give a shit and what will the reaction be? And we'll be like good riddance or who knows and the amount of love and positive feedback and kind words and well wishes was overwhelming. Like literally couldn't have been better if I wrote them all myself. Like it was just touch me to this day like it was one of the, one of the 5 best days of my life in all seriousness and that particular day and as I said to my wife, I said it was very cool. It was cool to be trending on Twitter and not be dead. Right, right, right. I liked it because I like anytime there's something where you get so jaded in this business and you're in every day. So like when you do see something like that, something like that where I went, wow, that's a bombshell. I enjoy it from that standpoint. I mean, we got a lot of it with the NFL at Joe and Troy going. And stuff like that. But, you know, for a writer or a podcast or to jump ship, you see it all the time when it happened with you. That was one where I think everyone was like, oh, that's an interesting move. Yeah. And then when I announced then we see a few a few weeks later and I popped up on football night in America. Again, people could not have been more kind or supportive or so and by the way, since, you know, you never know, right? You know, like I'm leaving the mothership of ESPN, this massive platform, where they have billions upon millions of people that play fantasy with them, and we're going to NBC where we don't have a game platform, right? We're purely content. And so you're like, are people going to follow me here? Everyone's wishing me well, but will they follow? And so when the when the podcast debuted at number one and I haven't checked today, but for, you know, we've been at number one in sports. Number two on Spotify. Number one on iTunes in terms of podcasts. Top 15 on both sites in terms of overall, that was mind-blowing candidly. I was thrilled that everyone's come over on NBC's obviously very happy. Well, yeah, I mean, listen, I think people who like you these days who make those big moves, it's because you have a following and those people follow and enjoy, I would enjoy all the good wishes because they're going to end the weekend. Thank you tomorrow at 1815 when Stefan Diggs has three catches for 14 yards and it's your fault. Exactly. Exactly. "And like, I don't think Lawrence speak bad this year says a lot about whether he could be a really good quarterback going forward, but I do think it raises questions about whether he's the absolutely indispensable, you know, prospect worth completely raising every good player to your team for. You know, like it does seem in modern football, like a genuine superstar should probably show a little more than this. I mean, it has been his first year. There's been enough just looking at Justin Herbert or Joe burrow, clearly a rookie quarterback in this league can now step into a situation and be pretty good. If inconsistent, you know, as both of them can be still, but still pretty good. And Lawrence has been pretty terrible. Obviously, the choice of urban Meyer as head coach has been, you know, he makes and ship Kelly look like brilliant moves from the college game. He's like petrino bad. Well, I'm more than forward to eating at the urban ShopHouse in Bellevue. I have to say once organ signs a 5 year contract to coach the huskies starting next year. Should be exciting. And then of course, vibes will be eliminated to pay the salary. So it should be good. Of course. Also. Urban does not seem like a civic northwest guy to me. And nor does you don't seem like the kind of school that would pay his salary, but I don't know. What kind of guy what kind of region does urban Meyers seem like that type of guy? He seems like a genuinely horrible person. I mean, we talk about Indiana earlier. So not good point. Yeah? Well maybe you could build on some of that success in Kansas, you know? Yeah. Look, like, you know, I mean, it takes a lot to be to Steve sarkesian team. So urban race. But for that. Sork is the scary UW dub candidate possibly. That's the nightmare. Yes. But I mean, you know, right now admittedly, the football reporting tends to be very driven by the contemporary narrative, right? And the Jaguars have been bad. But those Clemson, right? Although they are 7 and three, I think now, but it's a shitty 7 to three, right? The ACC is bad. They've lost any decent team. They played and they have a look good in the games that they won. And, you know, there has been a lot of talk that dabo you know for all of his personal touch with Jesus Christ has not really gotten good offensive schemes from Jesus. And that. Is the program is stale, the offense of stale and without Lawrence and, you know, the great Travis Etienne, and the offensive line that was so good that the team just really, very good. And so there's been at least some speculation that Lawrence actually was brought into the NFL, despite his talent with a pretty poor preparation because the scheme had become so vanilla and then he enters into a bad team with a horrible coach and it's just a kind of worst case scenario at least unless you play the jets. That's right. And again, I'm not, I'm not down on Lawrence's law. I think it'll be fine..

"Dot com Trevor Lawrence, the number one overall pick mark out of Clemson made his debut for the Jags in Houston against the Texans and the Texans. Kind of curb Stomp the Jacksonville Jaguars final score 37 to 21. I have to take it on the chin because I was Predicting that the Texans would go and 17. I took the Jags in Survivor pools. We won thinking they were going to be in historically and up team. And even with a rookie QB, making his debut and a rookie head coach, making his debut, the Jags would be just fine. I'd I'd burn a smaller bullet and the survivor pools and say the bigger ones for later that blew up in my face. Thanks to the Texans. They went 37 21. As far as Lawrence is concerned, there was some good He threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns, however, only completed 28 or 51 passes and also has picked off three times. So a little loose with the football. I think I was more impressed with Lawrence and his innate Physical ability, and I am kind of disappointed in urban Meyer and his coaching staff and how they were just completely dominated and seemed like they were prepared by David Cully and the Houston staff. So I think Lawrence is going to be really, really good. But I have some questions about Mayer after such a disappointing and lopsided debut. Well, it's It's completely when you make that transition. Not many coaches have gone from college to the NFL. And have had success. Jimmy Johnson was an anomaly. But most guys Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, they struggle and Urban Meyer's showed today that he struggled. Now let me just give you this stat, which I thought was quite interesting for rookie quarterbacks today, uh, including Trevor Lawrence, Trey Lance, Matt Jones and Zach Wilson each through their first career touchdown passes in week one. It marks the for the most rookie quarterbacks to throw their first career touchdown passes in a week. One Since 19 seventies, surpassing in 2012 Robert Griffin, the third Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson. So I thought, that's very interesting now. Trevor Lawrence the problem with Trevor Lawrence, and it's not really a Trevor Lawrence problem. His best receivers are DJ chart very good receiver Viscous Channel and Mervyn Jones Jr. They don't have any running game and the outline is well, let's just say not very good to be nice, so he doesn't have that surrounding cast and the Jags are still the Jags. So this isn't on Trevor Lawrence. Not to mention this is a rookie quarterback who threw 51 pass attempts today. Tyler. How many rookie quarterbacks have you seen in their debut? They're gonna throw 50 or more times in their first ever start in the National Football League that usually doesn't equal of victory, and it didn't now he threw three touchdown passes, but On the right side of the ledger. He had three interceptions. I don't blame that all on Trevor Lawrence. I think you nailed it. This is on urban Meyer and his staff. They clearly did not put Their star quarterback, the face of the franchise in a position to succeed, period. Exclamation point. Yeah, I think it's a good point. I was surprised to see Lawrence dropped back 51 times in the game script kind of dictated that as they got down big, but the Houston Texans had an awful And I mean, awful run defense Last season, teams are gassing them week in and week out. I know Travis Etienne was lost for the season, but you still had Carlos Hyde still had James Robinson Robinson was great last year as a rookie, you know, hides reliable veteran. That's why urban brought him in. I thought they lean more on that running game against Houston. But you know, the game did get away. They were down, you know, big kind of early. Um, just not a great debut for Urban Meyer. I think a better one for Trevor Lawrence. Despite what you see in the box score as far as the final score, that he made some throws that were big boy throws Now. You you talked before about the NFC North Division. How about the F C South? How they look today? They went over as well, Uh, NFC West was also pretty nails. We'll see what happens. Yeah, before tomorrow. Yeah, we'll start off tomorrow, but Denver got to win. The chief's got that win as well in the Chargers, go on the road and get a win. Zach Wilson was number two overall pick in the draft. And the Sam Darnel Bowl and Carolina. It's Darnel getting the best of his former team 1914 a low scoring game there. Wilson did throw two touchdown passes to Corey Davis, Um, and was only intercepted once, but he had a late drive that kind of patted the stats. He got to really, really slow start, Donald threw for a touchdown to Robby Anderson. Another former jet ran for one as well. Christian McCaffrey was Christian McCaffrey in the victory. I don't know what I take from that. I think those teams are in similar spots. Maybe Carolina little bit ahead of the New York Jets as Jets are going through a rebuild, but Wilson to to me also flashed the ability and and flashes in spurts that you go. Okay. I see where the Jets took him. Number two overall, would you see from other cannot BYU I loved it. And you know, there was a play Tyler in the game where He was. He got flushed out to his right and I saw this and you saw this time and time again last year at BYU. He got flushed out to his right. And then he found Corey Davis like he was almost in the red zone. He found Corey Davis, and he hit him for about a 22 yard touchdown after basically nothing was open. It was all Zach Wilson finding Corey Davis in the end zone. Then they capitalize getting the two point conversion. After that. I liked what I saw Exact Wilson. I really did. And I thought Hey, if you're the Jets right now, this is the first time you've had a legitimate quarterback. I guess, since Chad Pennington that you actually drafted who looks pretty decent, certainly Sack. Wilson has much better tools and a like an unbelievable arm more than Chad Pennington did, And I think he's much tougher as well. But I like what I saw. I thought he showed some moxie and I'll tell you right now. He certainly looks like the best quarterback in the tri State area because of what you saw today from Daniel Jones and the Giants. I'll take Zach Wilson eight days a week in 10 Times on Sunday over Danny Dimes. It was a gift performance from Daniel Jones promise from Zach Wilson, but certainly some things, uh to shore up but not a bad debut, all in all for Zach Wilson in his first NFL game. Trey Lance was the third overall pick after the Niners traded up to the three spot Lance in a 41 33 victory over the Lions. Through his first touchdown pass to Trench Sheffield Sheffield. Pardon Me, It's a play action, Lance will throw wide open cut by trade shirt field texter. Phone..

"Where the action is in. Alabama is on every single list. So that makes it easier for nick sabin to pick and choose and hopefully get it right and when it comes to the quarterback position. Everyone knows how important that is. He has gotten it right. Yeah jalen hurts. jalen hurts. Could've started almost anywhere. They had to same same thing. Mag jones was not in the same league. He developed him into a great player. Bryce young wasn't that league and dj clemson came with the same credentials. Except you know. He was thrown into a much different situation. So it helped. It helped rice young not to start. The season against georgia were clemson as opposed to miami. And now i think he's going to. Be unstoppable paul. You talk about clemson miami georgia. You're talking about that part of the region but the acc in particular. They took one on the chin. This past weekend with louisville losing miami losing although they played against a team that at alabama you mentioned. But you'd still look at clemson against georgia north carolina. virginia tech. They three of the teams in the top fifteen took an ale or they finished and done with the college football playoff. I think if you're looking for a heartache. Which i know you would never do or i would ever do. You could say that. But but i think the complexities of college. Football does not support that because all it takes a or a couple of upstarts i think any sane college football fan watching clemson. Saturday night would have to agree. They're a high level football team. The problem is they were up against a really nasty defense and they just. They seemed like they digressed a little from a couple of years ago. Now what does that mean. That's digressing from the number. One team in the country with trevor lawrence and travis etienne in the backfield and all americans out on the sides but i think they just need some luck because they will get it in the acc. That's really what this is about the stinks it's got. I mean not only at the top but in the middle bottom. You had duke duke losing to charlotte which is a brand new program at georgia tech losing losing to northern illinois. That really pulls your league down in every game. This year for clemson we'll we'll just really almost unwatchable maybe with the exception of nc state. Florida state did look good and defeat. So there's a few positive things to talk about. But not many and meanwhile alabama georgia play in the big leagues. And so two sodas everyone else. So that's if there are no major upsets for oklahoma ohio state. Then clemson will probably get left out but if they could get some luck. Paul mom joining joins the show brought to you by dr pepper college. Football's is back so the fans crack open an ice cold dr pepper slap on a fresh coat of paint return to glory with an all new season fans ville by dr pepper. The one fans deserve paul. We got about a minute one issue. That's been on my mind the lot in the last several years. And we've talked about it in the past on air has been the knicks sabin era which to me looked like it could be coming to a close with the competition from daboh and clemson and how it was unclear to me after so many years of alabama is the number one program. If that were still the case and paul week one is over and it looks like that still. The case is the alabama clemson. Daboh challenge to nick sabin over. Are we still clearly in the nick. Sabin era we are. And i think after alabama max lost by twenty eight a couple years ago to clemson. It was on the brink. And then what happened. The next year we saw. Lsu with joe borough but you know i thought in many thought maybe lsu was ascending. It looked like a one year. Wonder with joe borough and much much. Like we've seen with other generational quarterbacks cam newton eleven or twelve years ago so right now who who are really the challengers. It's the same. It's the same schools but so far. Nobody has really been able to make a dent. Saving will turn seventy next month. But i don't think it stops right now because he's still recruiting better than any one else. He's got a very good staff. I mean he lost steve starkey into texas. Who did he replace him with bill. O'brien who is an nfl head coach a college head coach and someone who just moved right in and they did not nisa beat so i'm not saying it will go on forever. Some people think he'll win national championships until he's one hundred. But there's always occurred. They have a seven clock game against Worcester. That is the opening Of a six game home stand. Those are your paddock. Chevrolet Headlines. Paddock Chevrolet with you for the extra mile. Next update at nine o'clock. Hi will stay out of any of the stuff that you would read in between the management and the player any time Unless I was asked if I was asked to be involved in it, I would. I'm not asked to be involved in this one. And that's good because I want my relationship with Jack to just the player coach. And if Jack's back and playing with the Buffalo Sabres, I'm as excited as anybody to happen, and probably more than that, But if that happens that happens to great day for For me, and I will do whatever I can. Get Jack playing his best like a focus on every time. You know, I just don't like drama. I hate drama. Um, and getting involved in that It's just nothing but a distraction. Hey, on day one a training camp. If whenever players we have there, That's what I'm working with. That's it. So in the interim, I'm not going to play the hypothetical this. That or the other. As I mentioned this morning, I threw some film on of guys that are coming in. Well, I'm watching guys are there's plenty of things to fill my day. That can be productive when I want to turn attack. "That environment as well. And tonight he was without Two starters on the offensive line, and he was going up against a ferocious defensive front on a football team that is going to challenge in the NFC the beat of representative in the Super Bowl, So you have to keep that in context. I think, as long as he is getting the beginning the calls out in the huddle, making sure that he's making the right checks protecting himself generally as far as making protection calls and throwing the football With relative accuracy. You have to take that as a win because this is a football team Greece that's a long way away from contending No, There's no question and I think they have an identity crisis. Right now. This is a an experiment of trying to meld two offenses that are completely different. The one that Darrell Bevell and the NFL traditional style and what urban Meyer is bringing from college. Spread, which is what Trevor Lawrence did in college. And so he's familiar with that, and they're trying to make it work together, And that's an experiment that's hard to do on the NFL level. So, uh, you have the the the the talent at Jacksonville. That's not as great as some of the other teams in the league. And then on top of that, you pile this identity crisis and It's going to be an interesting year, for sure for Trevor Lawrence Jaguars were dominated early in this one. Superdome really hasn't been kind to Trevor Lawrence. He's played three times there since his claims and days he's lost each time, including the preseason game. On Monday. There was also the 2019 national title game against L s U and a 2020 semi final loss against Ohio State. Jags also saw running back Travis Etienne leave with an apparent foot injury from the Monday night matchup. SportsCenter all night ESPN radio tray lands.

"Gardner, Minshew. I hate the way Gardner meant she was treated by the black jaguars. Did you know the garden when she was the only quarterback? That's won a game? Starting for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the last two years The way he's treated was said, inexplicably the Jaguars just benched him midseason. Put in a rookie quarterback, Jake Luton who was awful and then later instead of going back to Gardiner, they put in Mike Glennon off the Jaguars, didn't support, Gardner, Minshew at all, and then they benched him. And I I know people are going to think I'm sounding like a fan and the snap. But this is a hill, I will die on. Is that if you give birth of a good team, put him in Pittsburgh put him in San Francisco, put him on the Minnesota Vikings. Gave him the talent of the Green Bay Packers. If you gave Gardner Minshew age football, team around him, the Colts, even he would win a lot of football games. Unfortunately, the Jaguars refused to build around him, they said now we're not going to do that. They were tanking for Trevor and if Garden was on a good team, he would win. That is a hill. I will die on in the NFL. So 2020, resulted in the Jaguars firing their head coach Doug Marrone, they replaced him by hiring Urban Meyer birth. A coach you by the way. It's never coached in the NFL before. Now the biggest surprise of the Jaguars 2020 season was there. Undrafted rookie running back James Robinson, he had an outstanding breakout year. He ran for one thousand and seventy yards, seven touchdowns. He also caught 49 passes for 344 yards and three touchdowns. So the Jaguars had a running back James Robinson also had a quarterback Gardner Minshew. So to me it feels like a lack of evaluation. Do they not? Are they not aware? They had the quarterback problem solved, they're not aware, they had the running back problem solved because in the draft They drafted in the first round, Trevor Lawrence a quarterback and running back Travis Etienne. Now, to me if you already have a quarterback, you already have a running back to replace them, we didn't need to feel. It's a big job done. Didn't feels like a judgment error, like you can't evaluate your own players. They didn't really need a running back or a quarterback, but the front office had tanked for Trevor..

"Didn't like our running back play last year, so they bring in Harris and I think he's going to be the centerpiece. I know they have all those great receivers, but I think he's going to be the centerpiece of the offense. I think she's a legitimate second round pick and somebody I've been targeting. The really fascinating pick to me was what the Jaguars did, and we know Trevor Lawrence obviously goes Number one. But even though James Robinson was so good last year, new coaching staff knew organization new leadership they draft Travis Etienne, who obviously played with Lawrence in college, and I know a lot of people got burned last year, expecting too much. From Qaeda word Soleil right out of the box, and you know he was kind of a disappointment and a lot of the rookie running back Jonathan Taylor didn't get running till late. Swift is better part of his season was near the end of the years. A new school of thought that maybe you have to give these rookies until their bye week before they really understand what's going on the NFL, but I think you Tien is going to be close to the player we thought Edward Teller was going to be last year, Maybe not first round pick. That was a little bit too ambitious. But I think because he has a familiarity with Lawrence because she's a dynamic pass catcher and And this is a team that's going to be behind. I mean, you know they were one of 15 last year. Maybe they should have won three or four games by their Pythagorean. But the Jaguars are still going to be like a four or five win team, And I think that Sets up game script so you can be much more favorable to eat the end than they are for James Robinson Scott. Final thing for you. Is there a player or are there a couple players? Big stop sign. Like, you know, I know we started by talking about a possible regression statistically for Josh Allen. But you know, he still should have some good numbers in a good year in this offense. Is there a guy you would say, fellas, I'm gonna tell you you want to stay away from this, dude. Yeah, well, one thing I'm going to do is as injuries pop up in in the summer. Tend to be very careful with those types of things, but I still think see the tight ends in New England, Hunter Henry and Johnny Smith being drafted proactively, and they're both going to play. And they're either going to play with Cam Newton, who's near the end of his career, or Mac Jones, who's going to be trying to figure out what the NFL life is all about. And, you know, we always worry about sometimes about these quarterbacks in college. You play, you know, Joe Burrow played with every tool you could have. And And two ahead every time you could have in Alabama and sort of back Jones. It's really hard to evaluate how good they are. I don't I don't know what don't don't they'll check is I still think the greatest coach in NFL history but he's been a very spotty GM of Leighton. He was throwing money around it guys. I don't know where they're going to get it elsewhere like Kendrick Bourne Signing didn't make any sense to me. I think it's interesting. They're going to have to tighten that offense of these guys are both going to be on the field all the time, but Hunter Henry has an injury history. Think Johnny Smith was signed, in part because he's a good blocker is a good football player. But I don't see either one of them putting up fantasy starter stats, and they're still being drafted as such. So I'm not to touch those guys and I'll give you a first round pick. I'm nervous about actually, two of them. Don't trust Ezekiel Elliott on the second contract. I'm nervous. I think Tony Pollard isn't really a drop off from him. Now the Cowboys paid Elliot so he's still going to get the touches, but something that can be nervous there. See Kwan Barkley. When you drive to running back, you're drafting the whole organization. Drop Barkley. You're drafting Jason Garrett and you're drafting Daniel Jones. And that makes me nervous. And I know you can talk down anybody you want. But Barclays, a guy I've seen close high as number three overall on draft. I wouldn't I wouldn't consider him until the late part of the first round. I don't think I'll have any sick Juan Barkley this year. Well, listen, we I'm glad to announce that Scott is going to be back with us for another season of football. "He works his butt off, he can play. I don't know what else you want. So I I'll die on the hill, man. I would build a team around Gardner Minshew and I think I would win if I did it. Another guy, I feel very similar but I'd want to work with Jalen hurts, I hope it doesn't get screwed over, like, I love to he's from Hawaii off. Love to is very good. Like I really don't. I love to. I have his jersey but I don't know if tool can play like I'm a fan of two. Is he good? I don't know. Jalen hurts can play in a tournament, you can play. And I I hate when quarterbacks there's missed opportunities. Where guys, you know, I made a franchise with Colt Brennan the other day on Madden cuz I was like I feel like he never got. I looked back at film and I may rest in peace. I don't know. The Colt Brennan really was an NFL quarterback. That's going to be a franchise quarter. Kind of like hey what happens if you built around him? I'm like 16 and know, like I'm amazing with call Brandon as my quarterback he's got amazing short accuracy like short we call it short accuracy meeting. Like he's he can throw a five-yard out like nobody's business in Madden. Like it's crazy. It's like higher rated than a lot of franchise quarterbacks. He's got a terrible deep ball. What am I? I throw swings to Percy Harvin all day. I find a slant on the backside. You somebody had a whole shot like dude, I don't know. I love building teams and I hate when quarterbacks I don't get a fair shake. And when that initial lust Iraq, Is off people just discard them forever. It's like dude can still play like Blaine Gabbert with? The Buccaneers does some good stuff when he's called upon. So he said in my Tom Brady I don't know. I just feel like people are so quick to give up on players and then they're done forever. And it's like a death sentence. I hate that. David Wright said he says, what are your thoughts on check? Oh, so far as Red Bulls. Number two, I saw the other day that he has the same amount of points. Is Alex Alman did at this point last year and check. Oh, also has made a couple of mistakes, as well. Filled the problem with red bulls, second drivers, aren't the drivers themselves. Rather maybe the way the team handles them are works with them because the problems never seem to go away, even with the new driver, what are your thoughts next? Yeah, I mean thought Dana Ricardo. It's historically a massive blunder. They couldn't keep Daniel ricciardo happy cuz if Daniel ricciardo right now is a number two driver for Red Bull. I would think they're they're pushing birthday is a lot like I think Sergio Perez has been solid. He's made he made that mistake where it was yellow flags and he passed. Somebody that's like a huge be doing, but a lot of it too, is Red Bull. The team has made mistakes, he can't control that in race. Number one kid, power unit failure on the formation lap. Like that's not his fault. He's been decent and I'm still hopeful that Sergio Perez as time goes on in this F1, season can keep.

"Let's fight. You know, this Brady deeply hate Belichick? No way. I don't, I think he does, but I have no doubt that you bet your bippy. They want to beat each other. They care about that stuff, for sure a little bit. But players leave and they use frustration for motivation. I don't know that. You know for example I left on bad terms with my last college one of the coaches. There is a guy who I thought screwed me over and was frustrating and I lied to me and really really bothered me but I as years go on I go. Okay well God he probably meant well he's probably he's he's not a terrible guy. I thought he he's kind of dumb but I you know the more distance you have the less bitter. You get. I think everybody else I'm still bitter for sure. It leaks out of me. Like I feel like I wasted a lot of time had a good experience but I prefer felt lied to a lot cuz I left football teams before month. Now, you usually what you do is you leave and then you go, why didn't they want me? Time to prove them wrong and prove myself, right? So I think anytime a player leaves a team, there's some underlying, like, if they love football and off of, you know, what they do and they have confidence in themselves. They're like, all right, they didn't want me. Even if you're like, hey then offering you the amount of money I wanted. You're like, well, I'll show them. They should it off to me, you know, they need money. I want to do whatever it is. It's a little different in the pros where it's, it's professionals, and it's a business. Everybody understands that side of football like it's a business. You get it, but if someone doesn't want to pay you what you think you deserve like, okay, okay, all right. Like, if you believe in yourself, you go proven wrong. So, I think a lot of people when they leave a team, they use their frustration for motivation. Hey, thank you for writing it. Crazy. You're in Saudi Arabia. A Lear Odin said hi Zach. Hope you're doing well. I'm a, I'm a college student. So I just got done with finals and it's always nice to watch your videos when I'm done with my exams. Awesome College hated it. So good luck on finals. That hope you did. Well, anyways, here's my question. If you were an NFL GM and you were given, the means to trade for one player or even a coach wage last Jon Gruden. Who would it be? Just a fun fact. I'll read it in a moment and I'm going to read it now, he also says I have a fun fact for you. Bruce Matthews, didn't make a pro bowl until he was twenty-seven years old. Yet. No, long history, had more appearances, fourteen in the Pro Bowl than them. I think that's such a testament to how he grew as a player over time. Think it's a great fact. If you're a young athlete currently struggling with an agency, anyway, have a nice day. So 27 years old Bruce Matthews, made his first Pro Bowl made 14 after that..

"I didn't say it. I don't know why. Now since the year has ended the Panthers have traded quarterback, Teddy, Bridgewater Denver, then they traded for quarterback. Sam darnold. And I went another thing. I nailed told you guys, I knew Teddy wasn't the long-term plan at quarterback, I don't know that. He's feel bad for Teddy Bridgewater, man, his career was so exciting in Minnesota and it never got back together since then. And the reality is that Good quarterbacks all the time are put in situations. Where, like New York, the Jets were not a situation where he was set to succeed. He was never going to be about Drew Brees, you know, you kind of get one opportunity where when you're first, drafted a team will really believe in you put a lot behind you and Gardner mentions. A guy in Jacksonville where I wish that he would build around him. I wished the Jaguars built around him won't because once the shine is kind of run stuff a quarterback. They never again like you're not going to build around a thirty-seven-year-old quarterback. No one does that unless you're Tom Brady and it's it's just kind of sad. So Teddy Bridgewater. I knew it wasn't a long-term plan at quarterback. I was right about that but I was a little bit sad at a twinge of sadness cuz I like Teddy. I think he's awesome and I feel his career has just been kind of like God what kind of a missed opportunity? Like dang it man. You know in the right scenario with a really good team around him Teddy. Bridgewater could have been awesome. Now, it is worth noting that 11 of the Carolina Panthers losses. I guess, let me, let me back up the Panthers went five and eleven last year they lost eleven games. Eight, eight of the 11, losses wage by one score or less. So the Panthers did really compete last year, they lost by three points to New Orleans. They lost a Kansas City, the defending Champion by two points, they lost to the Packers by faith. Like this is a team that was regularly in the mix, even if they weren't winning a lot of games. And by the way, that's in a year, when their star player Christian McCaffrey, they're running back was hurt. He owned three games at high ankle sprain. I think part of that was Carolina was like this year, doesn't matter. We're not going to risk the future of Christian McCaffrey on this, you know, kind of down year in 2028. And you know losing those eleven games did help Carolina get a better draft pick, they drafted Corner, JC horn out of South Carolina. So I feel really good about the Carolina Panthers, rebuild so long. Our they've done a lot to upgrade and rebuild their team. The defense that you stand out rookies last year, they had Derek Brown defensive tackle, who was it's a position, doesn't get a lot of shine but I thought he did well. They had a safety. Jeremy chin was in the mix for Rookie of the Year, kind of came out of nowhere for a lot of people and was like, wow,.

"Night that ended up getting wrong, but You win some, You lose some. That's that's exactly right. So, as you mentioned Zach, the Jaguars do have James Robinson and remember last year, he said, a rookie NFL record for the most total yards to the 1st 14 games of a career. Also signed Frasier running back Carlos hi to a two year deal this offseason as well. And in the press coverage after the first round, head coach Urban Meyer says the play with the crowded running back rooms to have Robinson and hide be the 12 punch. With each hand being used primarily as a third down back. John says you're offsides job was made the most head scratching pick of the first round and taking Travis Et en all sides. I didn't think they needed to go with the running back. I didn't think they should go with the running back. But he is a good palate. Trevor Laurence, you could talk me into it. Who had paid in Turner. In the first round. Who had Eric Stokes that ended up going to Green Bay paid intern and went to the Saints. Eric Stokes went to Green Bay who had those two guys go in the first round. And how about this one? The Raiders. Once again, they took Cleland feral it for May ox first draft. Then, last year, they took Henry rugs as the first receiver off the board. They shouldn't have done that. Then they drafted Damon Arnett, who was projected to go in the second round. Alex Leatherwood was No Backdraft predicted to go at 17 overall. Most Haddon Second round, like where we are right now, the Steelers were on the clock with the 55th pick. It could be a good pick. It's a position of need, but to do so at 17. Yeah, that's a big head scratcher, but it kind of fits the script and what it's been for Mike Mayock in these dressed so I will not say That the Jackal has made the most head scratching pick of the first round and taking Travis Etienne offsides. Offside Number four Quatro as their legal Harris makes his way to the stage to go introduce the Steelers pick. Yes, wait. He just wiped his mouth with the terrible towel. I think. Uh, well, I guess his mask is the terrible towel is that with a two on one, so he was taking off the mask, which was the terrible tied, thought he was waving it in and just wiped his mouth ago. That's not what the terrible Talyn supposed to be used as that's a pretty all those. You're pretty cool Mass. The terrible towel masks. There you go. Yeah, Not bad. Right? Alright, bad what we got. So as you just mentioned before his act agreement Packers were the center of attention on draft day yesterday, as Adam Schefter reported the Aaron Rodgers told the organization he wants out then later on in the draft at pick 29. To be exact. The Packers drafted Georgia Corner, Eric Stokes. By passing on a receiver yet again now, just twice in 2000 and three of the Packers drafted disco position.

"National football league yeah throughout this last season I wanna especially after. I you know realized that it was a real opportunity to come. Nfl i think. I really just honing in on on details. Man you get preached that growing up and Try your career that details matter and it really does and i think you know going into each practice each game Just figuring how little things to do to to separate yourself you know. Physically vermeer seaver gives separation You know great grateful words just little things like that in Allow me carry over and had success in the nfl. So you mentioned Zack wilson was your roommate. Talk a little bit about him. How see as a leader When you guys are on the field Yeah he. He did a great job. Becoming a leader I think he really grew into it. Because know he was the he was my quarterback freshman sophomore year but You know with injury and and being young You know you kind of had to really grow into the the leadership role and and but this last season he did a great job You know getting the team together and Coming off the field after after a series and and bringing us together in You know figuring out what we could do differently or looks good Talking to coaches so The proud of him and and the way he he ended up so you know so it was funny so we get a chance to watch you guys at your pro day Watching all these seemingly impromptu throws running all over across his body whatever what is it like to play with a guy who can man just link iraq from any platform at any level. Like what does it do for you as a wide receiver. Yeah it's it's really fun as a wide receiver to play for someone like bad. That can just make their like that. Look easy. I got us. I think i started to take that stuff for granted you know as my career went on You guys saw a pro day The pure arms allen he has. I just can't even. It's it's weird. But i just it's it's it's good. It's good that bar recognizing the talent he has so. Do you have a favorite Throw like a favorite memory overthrow. That happened in a game that you just like. Wow that is worn remarkable. Throw them man just put yes yes. It was I think it was against western kentucky. he he rolled out right on ago unbear- sideline and he rolled out opposite of me and then i thought he was. Just kinda count me out. But i just stayed running on opposite sideline and all of a sudden he turned and i seen the ball. Go up in the air and i was like. Oh my gosh. That is the farthest i've ever seen and the ball state in the air for forever and finally came down and scored so that is crazy so we have about a month left remaining before the nfl draft. What are the things that you work in on before. Hopefully over the weekend you get your name call maybe recall.

"I just say it's a real. It's it's still crazy to meet it. that wherever the have as much success success as we had as season and and now i have the opportunity to prepare for the nfl with some other teammates. And and it's it's been a fun time man you how. How was that because in watching you guys like the pandemic in all of those things like people are affected by not being able to get together. And i get a chance to see you guys opening night against navy. You absolutely throttled them. How did you guys get prepared in the midst of a pandemic Y- think a couple of things that One i think a lot of people know me me and live together this past season. And so you know during that whole corentin time. There's plenty of opportunities for us to just kind of you know. Wash film or or go. Throw together You know get timing stuff down and Another thing was just always having our head that you know we're gonna we're gonna have a season we know are going to five games We got to do everything on our part in that first game you know really i think it just showed everybody even showed us how good we weren. How ready were for the for the season. You know it's funny because you guys have always been regarded as one of the more physical teams in funny because byu used to be known for the passing prowess an audit others other stuff but of late. You guys have been a very physical aggressive team but to do what you guys were able to last season in the midst of a pandemic where the schedule change week to week didn't know how are you guys able to stay. Focused am ready with all of the uncertainty around the program. Yeah that was. It's definitely tough. China stay focused like that You know a great example of of That whole thing was arkansas carolina. Game where It wasn't scheduled until three days before and You know where we were just grateful to even have that game We just we really respected are eighty for for reaching out and finding us anything available I mean obviously we. We lost that game but it was a great opportunity to show that we. Can you know. Pick up everything and go when when when our name is called in thinking about all the success that you guys had during the season how you use some of the lessons that you learn doing this final year to help you as you go forward the.

Or I'm not sure, but I made the following list. So we appreciate that 855 to 1 to four. CBS. We will get to Connor Greens thoughts after watching last night's game and approaching. The NFL draft because Connor is a Jets fan, and all the talk in New York with the Jets is what what is it? It's about the quarterback. They have sand Arnold entering his fourth year next year, third overall pick they I don't know if he can play, all right. I don't want to do too much. That's right. Next. We take a couple phone calls and we get to Connor. I don't know if he can play. That's my only thing. That's my only problem. But you can't act like that. They set him up to succeed with the talent. They've given him one offense and the coach that he's had. Adam Gaze. So what do you do now with you if you're the Jets, and it's a quarterback, so we'll get to that in a second, But I want to make a couple calls here on on college football. Let's go back to the phones with Jason in Jacksonville, Florida, Jason, you're on CBS Sports Radio. Happy New Year. How are you? Hey, John. Happy New Year, man doing great. Thanks. Taking my call. Uh, I had some observations on the game, and then I had something I wanted to go out there until you thought number one. I You know, I actually am from Spartanburg, South Carolina. So I've got some Clemson in my background. But that was a total team victory for Ohio State. They won every phase of that game, including the mental, not just the physical aspect, the offense, defense and special teams mentally. Dominated Clinton. I think Clemson might be looking at some rough road ahead because if they lose Travis Etienne and The lovely quarterback Trevor Laurence to the NFL next year, which I believe it's probably going to happen. I didn't see anybody on their roster who replaces those guys? He did not seem to have the special hot. Uh, offensive receiver either this year where a lot of states certainly put it on him in that regard. My other thing is, I hope the Jacksonville Jaguars, who probably obviously have the first round pick in the NFL draft, the number one overall are looking at that game and said, You know, Trevor can't do it by himself. If he spends the game on his rear end. He's not going to be throwing too many touchdown passes and the Jazz have to build an offensive team around that guy, the NFL Games and the college game. The big game, which we observed very clearly are won in the trenches. And that was an area where Ohio State dominated and then my other comments about parity in college football because, really, unlike most of the pro leagues and pro sports, there is no parity, and there's no parity built into the system. And I would really love this city and see a reduced the total number of scholarships for these football team by maybe 10. I believe they have 85. I can't help but think that 75 is enough to put together an excellent football team. I believe it would cause the talent to be four. Broadly, this first amongst the teams. I think we have more competition. I think it would be very interesting. They can probably never limit what university chooses to spend on a team on. I know that Alabama spends more on it's college football team than any other program in the country, and they're getting the reward. Once again thanks for taking my call, and I will take your comments off here. Have a great new year. Thank you, Jason. Appreciate it. I would. I would love to tell you that I knew a lot about Recruiting and everything else. I just as far as Clemson and what's behind some of their players. I don't follow it closely enough. I I work and live in a pro town so most of my energy is spent. Concentrating on the pro leagues. I watch college football as a fan without a real team in the Philadelphia area that I root for what the Temple Temple's been under Matt Roll Temple was very good. They've kind of dropped back to where we way normally have him, which is the mediocre or maybe a little bit of above average team. I don't really have a don't really follow college football like I I do some of the other sports and we're doing a doing a national radio show if I if I'm doing this on a more regular basis, and this is my second shift there at CBS Sports Radio. I'll bet shall be AH, lot more versed when it comes to college football because there's a huge appetite for it right. Like I'm listening to Ken Carmen Show leading up to me coming on two o'clock Eastern. And he is I mean, he's inundated with with college football calls, so I know there's a huge appetite for it. It's not something at Wi PE in Philadelphia that we ever talk about outside of May be reacting to a game. But even then, if I'm reacting to a game that's on a Monday and in eagle Monday to where we're not doing a lot of talk about college football, So it's it's actually refreshing. It's nice. T o be able to discuss it. So here's Here's what I know from from watching from my eyes from my lens, is that is it? Alabama is a machine. And with Nick Saban as good of a coach's. He is with what has been set up in Alabama with recruiting and everything else..
