Chicago Weather: Heat Persists, More Pop-Up Storms Expected

"Warm weather across the area today that goes without saying, look at the high temperatures nineties here, but also up the Traverse City and Alpena, Michigan. You know, it's warm. When that happens. Interesting radar, you'll notice as it starts. It's cool, but with daytime heating these little measly type showers and thunderstorms show up and we had some blockbusters. In terms of rain and wind producing production down the southern suburbs. The main storms tonight cause ours have died out or up in those watch boxes, and that's what's coming at us later tomorrow, but check out some of these rainfall totals across the metro area. ST John, Indiana, 94/100 of an inch. There's dire Lake Geneva, Plainfield and then, of course, we had wind gusts that a pro 60 miles an hour at Plainfield. Almost 50 mile an hour gusts at Rockford.

"Desecrated desiccated areas of detroit detroit residential neighborhoods just blocks and blocks and blocks of blasted empty landscape and my favorite detail from it was the land boats which there's like a dumping regulation asian about boats in the detroit area. I mean please stop me if i'm butchering the story so it makes more sense for people to just drive their boats that they want to sell into the middle of the city of detroit decouple them and abandon them in downtown detroit so you just like driving around through these empty blocks and they'll just be decaying boat in the middle of the st now tethered to any kind of access to water very big. It's a i think detroit is still a surreal experience for if you're not from here but the idea of a boat graveyard that's very possible. America does not seem well. That is the liz america. They give a shit about detroit. Real doesn't no not really <hes> so likewise. Detroit really doesn't give a shit about america. We you know i'll give you. I'll give here's the example of of of how true that is in the twenty sixteen election ninety thousand michiganders' many of them in detroit ninety thousand stood in line for two hours to vote and went in and voted for every candidate mostly obviously democrats <hes> congress state senate statehouse. All the way down rounded drain commissioner which is our lowest office. We don't have dogcatcher but the person in charge of the sewage you have to vote for that person and they voted for all those offices and left the top box. Blank didn't vote for president ninety thousand michiganders' stood wine hi and waited that long just to say fuck you it was it was like wow that is a commitment. That is a serious commitment. Hilary lost the state by eleven thousand votes refrained commissioner actually beat hillary drain values in michigan. The weird thing about that is to is at bernie won the primary michigan yeah yeah and over zero percent chance to win that primary who gave him no no right that morning i remember that morning on channel two and detroit <hes> the the the forecasters of this days election this primary election i think they said hillary was going to win by <hes> sixty or seventy percent and with some outrageous number and even bernie believed it because he had left the state halfway through the day went to florida went to bed. If you remember when he won michigan they had to wake them up in his motel six motel six and he comes out in a i don't know what he was. It was either as pajamas or the motel. Six bathrobe is seriously you can look you could go online and watch this. It was the most amazing thing in this city that you're sitting in now. "Now if i read a review now i'm not an average guy because i'm reviewing movies so if i read a review its after i've seen the movie not before i'm not using the review as a kind of a consumer guide i've already seen the movie i wanna read it a good essay i wonder we good riding and i wonder learn something from the review i wanna learn something about the movie i want the critic to illuminate something that i may have missed or a deep in my appreciation or understanding of the film or the filmmaker in general and that's what i'm that's arm seeking in a review and also sometimes having someone explain what they like about something because it may it may sort of remind you what you liked ya if somebody is articulate and they go well actually i thought that this this in this were were incredibly well done you sir to go yeah i guess that's true and that's that's the point is it supposed to it's supposed to interest you and stay with you and make you think i just had my wife and i just had a fascinating experience i know i know we've never had experienced quite like this before all three of us should just a few weeks ago we're in the czech republic attending the car lovey very filmfest international from which is gone for tonight he forty six the senior can began so it's an old much respected very well attended film festival in eastern europe.

"You know i don't really feel like driving crossed wrong she this obscure movie you know on i'll i'll i'll succumb to laziness or or fatigue or whatever it may be now the other half the it's ready now the other aspect of criticism we wanna discussed is the unfortunate schaab lem of swimming against the tide yes case in point right now i did not care for dunkirk now that puts me in a minority it has gotten rave reviews i've read several columns that insist it's going to be a leading oscar contender this year because it's about the importance subject the oscar folks like that it it with the production values an execution of the film are impeccable uh but i had misgivings about it and i found some things to quibble with and i said so honestly in my review on my website leonard maltin dot com and you got a plug it when you can uh and i know as a result a lot of people are unhappy with me well so what happened was a few weeks ago we both did not like wonderwoman and this did not go well for us i liked it open thing is like the beginning oh know they're pieces in it but collectively when the film ended we're sitting next to each other and the film ends and i didn't know what he thought usually i can guess because we've seen a lot of movies together unusually i can guess of my body language add something just your face he doesn't have a poker face so if he's enjoying it'll be sitting really pleasantly and if he's not it's just this like buster keaton and and i i went back and i said what did you think he said that's the dullest superhero movie i have ever seen and i said i'm so board and that's the thing is that it's a movie so everyone's here's what hacked the same way now i can't hard i can't go on a corner i have air my opinion publicly that's my job.

"A by applause how many share my opinion of loss well i i can tell you that i saw early on and didn't know anything about it and just fell in love with a soapy accomplice film with bill murray scarlett johansson well when they opened at why'd i started seeing tv commercials it said things like quoting some critic bill murray is hilarious well no and he's not trying to be so what happened was they were misleading people getting images people who are under false pretences employer are not happy at out not happy at all so i would have people found exactly for a couple of months is happens at least with one film a year people who would recognize being stopped me in a hotel carter order the airport earth restaurant or something that gig we give me kind of a fish i look and they say what did you think of lost in translation daring me to say i liked it and i said well i liked it but apparently you didn't no i did not i said when did you see it last thursday well why i sought knowing nothing and a clean slate and that's why i was able to sort of discovery for myself and that's part of what makes film festivals sell much fun and such a wonderful experience we always tell fbi there is now a film festival everywhere i guarantee wherever you are there is at least one if the trader joe's film festival it's the ralphs film festival its everywhere and while it may be silly at times just how many there are if it means you can go and watch movies especially movies that you might not otherwise get to see you always say that you you feel bit more brave you wanna give more things to try it a federal i'm more daring at a film festival or if i'm at the festival and i'm not home where they're always a million things to do if i'm devoted to be out a festival to see films i'll say we'll look i'm going to give that a truck is how he ends up at foreign films at like eight in the morning and god knows what happens in happens where's at home i'll find a reason not to do it.

"In addition to their newspaper columns in chicago could really influence viewers if they got behind the movie if they championed of a movie meant people would say i i want to give that a try side now i always used to say that as a publicity stunt we should cut off his thumbs his people always tell us it go through the two thumbs up it's like that he's not that he's not either one of those guys so i said just just get rid of the thumbs well seem like a good idea at the time proud of what it would look like without the psychic on radio anyway it's it's just not true if their head if there were real influenced by film critics who had never been a friday the 13th part two you know or part seven and conversely the little movies the critics ten due to really champion and get behind and it would become box office smashes so critics have some influence over some people in the audience and usually it's the get behind one of those movies it needs a little help it might slip through the cracks unnoticed and i every year this is always the tricky part though every year at least one smaller film gets championed to the point of many times being nominated for an oscar or something like that and then people go in thinking they're going to see the greatest movie ever made you go no no no no no the ideas to see it not knowing that it's really good and just give it a shot by yourself so many times because it has happened there's always backlash little miss sunshine slumdog millionaire it's that kind of thing if you just see it by itself i remember it on your that lost in translation came out of film i love.
