Vinsanity: Is This How Vince Carter's Epic Career Ends?

"Jackie the early ending potentially of the NBA season could also mean the end of one of the longest runs in NBA history. Which at this point is perhaps the most remarkable thing about Vince? Carter's career right. I mean the fact that he's forty three years old he still playing as not playing for great teams so I wanted to start there and ask you a simple question. Why well it's a good question and it's funny because if you go back the fact that this dude has played four decades and played above the rim and then learn to play below the rim. Because that's what I always look at okay if you're a high flying guy and you couldn't do that anymore. Well why are you still playing? Disowning love to the game in respect to the game and the players that played. So that's Kinda why still do it? There's a certain small small number of guys that have incredible Immortal Street cred with other players and he's one of them. You mentioned him to younger players and there is just explode. Can you put in context? How unusual it is that he has played for twenty years. Well it's incredibly unusual because it's taxing game. When I knew I was going to come on this podcast with you. I happen to look game. Seven of the Eastern Conference semifinals which. I'm sure we'll get to but the reason I looked it up because I was curious. How many minutes he played in that game he played forty eight minutes in that game and he played during an era where you played forty plus minutes when the games were important. So that's why I think it's even more remarkable that he's been able to spend four decades because he played during a time when the best players played a lot. So in the intro mentioned that that might have been vince. Carter's final shots a three pointer for the Atlanta Hawks in overtime. What at the season been like for him and his team before that moment. Well it's interesting. They're they're interesting team. I'm sure they're disappointed. Travis Shank has one of the smartest Johnson the league he learned under the Golden State. Warriors Franchise drafted well brought in some really good young players and sprinkled in some veterans to teach them some things. Hence why Vince? Carter is on that roster. Remember I told you before about young players is exploding trae young as one of those players. Because I asked him out to me I still see DECISI. The highlights crazy events has been a true G. for me he's been a guy can lean on. If I have any questions I can go go to him anything. I ne- I can go to vent so and I'm sure he's learned a lot from him but they underperformed if in fact this is the end of the season for them. Now I'm not blaming Vince. Carter for that but I would say that as a whole I think he envisioned being the iota to a bunch of really sharp. Young jet is that we're going to shock the world and it didn't go that way

The Steph Curry comparisons are unfair to Trae Young, but they won't go away

"We now safely say the trae young is the next steph curry. I if you want to. I don't know there's so many other things that I have to worry about. I don't if you WANNA do that. Go ahead you'RE NOT GONNA I'm not GonNa Yell at you and go. He's not the next steph curry. I do like this though the approaches. Yeah but does he play defense? Can we stop with this? How many how many guys play defense in the NBA? But let me stop somebody in crunch time. Can anybody stop him by being declared the next anybody? You're already less than them. Because that's your title like Steph. Curry was the first do it that way and so the next curry means you're automatically below them. You're an imitator. I mean it's great. He's fantastic player but he's basically modeling his craft. Well that's why you don't want people were there. Everybody's looking for the next Larry Bird. Mike member Keith. Van Horn as the next Larry Bird now. Luca Danni checks next Larry Bird. No LUCA IS DIFFERENT THAN LARRY. Bird he might be better than Larry. Bird a when it's all said and done on out there we keep waiting for the next Michael Jordan. Kobe became the original. The first Koby we keep going. Oh He's the next and and you're not who is ever the next. We love comparisons. We love cops but it doesn't always work that way and usually if it's a white guy who's good then you find another white guy who is you know got similar skillset. Glad Yeah. Googles is the next Larry Bird UNC. But until that person becomes the first they're always going to be on next you know because you haven't seen it yet so it hasn't even been identified. When do you graduate to? I'm no like when did Kobe. He's not the next Jordan. He's Kobe did he. Oh I think he did well. No he wasn't the next. Nobody's the next Jordan. You can't be now possible now if you want to say. He plays like him great when Kobe went black. Mamba then he became the original Kobe. And he wasn't the next Michael Jordan. Because we realize there's not going to be another Larry Bird just not. There'll be players who might be similar. Might be better. But there's that's the original Muhammed Ali. This not the original. Might be guys who turn out to be better. But they're the originators. Yeah pulling yeah like Koby Bryant. He he appeared to watch documentaries he admittedly modeled everything after Michael Jordan and he came up about this short of having an equal career to Michael Jordan. If you look I mean considering how close he was to the time of Michael Jordan. He over and he was really close to having an equal career.

"trae young" Discussed on Big Time Basketball

"Enter got a lot of things to hit on today. After the weekend. It was a big weekend in the league. Kyrie's back in the nets are back on winning ways We got hard hitting another numerical milestone. Rob Pelinka gets. It's a promotion and extension with the Lakers. I want to ask our resident. Gm Ryan mcdonagh was GONNA join us in about a half an hour here. How much credit he deserves? Plus something. That's cow and I were just talking about before the show. We want to go through some of the teams in the middle of the teams that are around five hundred a little bit below. Hi five hundred and bigger out if they should be buyers and the buyers or sellers for about a month away from the trade deadline so these teams are GonNa you have to make these decisions in the next couple of weeks and there are a couple of interesting teams out there as well. I gotta ask you scall- When is when is it fair to start having some concerns. It'd be worried about the clippers if ever because there's another weird loss I know they don't have Paul George but they're seven six in their last thirteen or something doesn't seem right so I want to ask you about that and the bucks are on pace to win seventy games this year. There were there right at the halfway point. Forty one games in and they are perfectly on pace to be seventy and twelve. Does it matter. Do they get their WanNa get to that a little bit later as well here on Gal Pals House but first and foremost gal how is the weekend. What's up how we doing good basketball this weekend? So I got a chance to watch New Orleans live. I love watching them. Play offense defensively. They're awful and I got a chance to watch dilemma and go through warm-ups and the hype was unreal in Boston. Like there's Lebron Steph Curry Kevin Durant and maybe not even K. D. But the crowd Rhode was about twenty people deep both sides all to see this young Vietnam workout and to get his autograph and all that stuff so the hype is real with Zion. And I'm really interested. Just watching him play He. He's got he's got a lot of Charles Barkley in him so I I really believe he's a good a player and I really believe it's only gonNA come down to. Will he take care of his body and then they have a good team around him. I was the first time I actually enjoyed watching branding ingram play. I've always liked watching Lonzo ball play and I think he's a good fit for some of those guys. So New Orleans is he's a sneaky dangerous team somewhere in the future. But it does all rely on the legs of Zion Williamson. Yeah I mean you see like you know. Obviously you sort of close in in person I have been seen it on twitter at highlight and stuff him just doing windmill. Dumb Duncan the pre-game like he looks like the Zion. We saw Duke and the guy that you know made people excited about the Pelicans seen this year. The guy a guy that got the Pelicans basically like a bunch of nationally televised games that they didn't have unfortunately live up to the high because he wasn't there but that is a cool thing to look out in the second half of the season. Like I think you know. We still don't know when he'll be back he seems to be playing five on five and they're not going anywhere anytime soon this year so I think this season is like get him right. Make him look good. Make him feel comfortable well and make a push maybe for for next year because as we talked about the it's a it's a talented. PELICANS team like Brandon. Ingram is a borderline all star. Not An all star one of the better scores in the League Lonzo. Ball's as you imagine playing better recently. So let's ask mcdonagh to one of the things about like buyers and sellers like I think they've been pegged as a seller. Maybe some of their veterans doesn't seem like. Jj read is going anywhere but holidays. A guy that might be might be on his way out. Could be a very valuable piece for potential contender. But Zion coming back is one of the things that I think. All fans have to have something major aged look forward to in the second half of the year scale here so they have. I would if I was them I would be sellers. I would look to see what I could get for jrue holiday. Jj Jj Redick. Like I would be really interested in. What could I get a first round? Pick like a sort of a lottery like go outside the lottery. Pick for a drew holiday. Even if it's in the future it's worth it and I do believe they're. They need another wing player to be considered at a really good team if you just look at. What the Lakers have? And you've got a guard Lebron. You can't guard the one guy you've got multiple bodies throwing him to clippers will be the same way you WanNa have versatile wings and they need to get a versatile wing and they're young enough where they get a top by pick this year and they dabble throwing some of these veterans out there. This could be a really good way for them to new improved through the draft. I like Jackson Hayes. A lot doesn't play any defense whatsoever. Like okay shocker. Book Man Rim runner at this aged great hands at this age. It's like he's he's The d Andre Jordan Mike before the Andre Jordan hit his prime so they got a good team. They really do have a good team. It's just a matter of. I need another versatile wing. That's what they need versatile wing naked. Put the ball on the floor. That can guard multiple position so impressed impressed with what I saw but I think they should be sellers. And I know we're GONNA get into. Are we going to get into this Cerruti with only mcdonagh. Are we gonNA talk about it on our own. I what do you want to do. I mean we could do it right now. He can go into because he's so smart at knowing when go into not went to put the throttle down and win the pull back and why why trade why not trade. I do have a question about the knicks. The Knicks want to trade with. Anybody is that because of job preservation is that their version of if we don't make a move criticized the moves that we make so I'm really interested and if GM's do that. GM's don't make moves and go for it just so they don't get fired you know. That's kind of hey the guy. Doesn't you draft the guy. And he's a young and he's not working out. You can fire the coach and blame the coaching staff. That's kind of like it it it is really a cover your ass type league when it comes to some of these GM so so. I want to ask me those things so yeah very. It's I think it's an awesome date mcdonagh. Because don't you feel as rudy that we're at upper shut up time with the NBA. Like you're there Gordon Goteborg or you're not you know you're right yes I do feel like in the east especially with Kyrie back. It does sort of feel like the playoff teams are who they aren't. We said this was like months ago when a couple maybe a month or two of the season like a kind of feels like the eight that were in it and they're still the same eight now are kind of the eight. So what does that mean for teams like Charlotte Chicago. Obviously the Pistons are really interesting teams. That are just kind of they're still. What what four games back in the playoffs? But it doesn't seem like they're going with her and then you look at the Western Conference and you know one through seven looks pretty good including all include the thunder in that assuming you know that they can keep most of this thing together who knows they could be major sellers and drop off a cliff. I don't think that's GONNA be the case but the chase for that eight spot. It's going to be fascinating. 'CAUSE teams like Memphis Antonio even Phoenix and Portland and Minnesota teams. That have been pretty disappointing this year. Like they're still in it. So what do you do. I've been pretty you know. I'll ask me because I've been pretty adamant. I think you said this to like. This is kind of a perfect year for me Portland to be like. Hey maybe we just kind of be bad and try to get another acid in here like this is a kind of a unique opportunity for us to not really tank but like hey we've been in the playoffs a bunch of years in a row here in the Western Conference finals last year we built up a ton of equity. What do we know? We're not a bad team but if we can kind of be bad and getting the lottery and have this be a gap year. I guess I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing for a team like Portland. So let's do. We'll do that a little a bit coming up in about twenty minutes with Ryan mcdonagh. So let's get to some of the smaller stories than that that we have here first and foremost did you see Kyri last night. His return. Now it's hard. It's hard to gauge. He's like how good it was. He was eleven Ten Eleven from the field twenty one points in just twenty minutes but against a hawks team with notre young by the way Madonna and I were texting about this last night. That hawks team is so bad. And without trae young. I mean they. They have nothing like that bad. Scalia like we were talking about them and I didn't think they would be as down as as I was and then being a playoff team. I don't think it would be horrific worst team in the league. Bad they're terrible but anyway what did you make Kyrie's return because we are questioning as early as last week. Whether he you would play this season he comes back. Looks pretty good and you never know the nets team could maybe they are team. That makes a run. I'm always cautious with Kyrie. For instance comes comes out with those all star. Comments comes back plays well like I don't think with Kyrie it's ever an example maybe if like the NBA had one game a weak. Maybe kirie wouldn't get so moody and so down and out and starting I take off to officials in. Maybe he would play harder during the Games. And you're right like for him not to get challenged offensively. You're not gonNA stop Kyri. He's going to do whatever react wants to the Times where he struggles if you WANNA call it struggles right. That's a that's A. That's a weird word to use. Because he could score thirty six points I feel like he struggled defensively but the times when he's like that it's when he's tired when he has acid guard like a guy that can bust his ass..

NBA 2020 Predictions

"About My tween twenty bold predictions now. This isn't just for the regular season. This is for the off season. This is the beginning of next season to these addiction that I think that potentially could happen. I'm going to say them here today. And maybe you can agree with me some. You may think this crazy in some you might agree with. We'll have to see my first pro. Prediction is that both L. A.. Neither one of the LA teams will not make the Western Conference finals. I think a team will beat them or since the clippers. Don't take care too much about seeding in the Lakers. Stay the number one seed if the clippers land four or five. They'll play the clippers in the second row. They'll play Lakers around. which would men? 'cause obviously semifinals matchup US and other Western Conference finals match. But I also feel like there may be a team that could upset me maybe Houston is probably the most likely that could upset one of the LA teams and. I think that they're going to keep them from making the the the Western Conference finals. I know a lot of people were expecting that to happen. A lot of people are wanting to happen. I'm sure it will be great for the Lee but I really think that that's something in my opinion that I think is going to happen. That's one of my first. Bold predictions of the twenty twenty season in further on my eh prediction is that the Golden State Warriors will form another super team. Now I don't know if there's going to be with Jaanus. It could be a cry towns because Golden State is monitoring situation but Golden State clearly knows. Listen with the way the League is if we want to be on topic how can we need to get an update US another super team together and I think that they're definitely trying very hard to get another another star player in there now. I do like that. Probably means that's the end of Draymond Green. But I think that's what they're aiming for taming to get their aiming to get another star in there to see to come back with clay and to come back with Steph potentially really they can make you trade for star because they if they do get a top three lottery pig. deathly do not be surprised. If they try to make a trade with that pick honestly they honestly could have just picked up an amazing asset for them because they could use that as trade bait in. That's good trait rate. You know maybe the team star is disgruntled. Maybe you never know. I mean this isn't somebody would think about like the sons have another bad year. We'll we'll give you our top pick and another guy. And we want Devon Booker. Obviously Yona how that work I mean you know. They're kind of doing the right now. And the end of the Russell even yeah no. We Really Devon Booker may be a better player Neanderthal Russell. But that's definitely a prediction I think could potentially happen. I think that the warriors warriors will form another super team. But it's not going to be as top heavy instrument of Kevin Durant who like the second best player in the League. That's why think if they got Jaanus it would be stacked because of state Stephan Klay can play like they play and then they completely put a better supporting cast around. Then you could say okay. Yeah this team is going to be very tough to beat. Even laker teams have a team. They may be looking up to but it will have to see because if they get any towns houses. This is a great player but we don't view him as view when Kevin Durant was there which means even though it would be very top heavy west conference. But that's when also and my pro predictions one of my other pro predictions. Are I think that revenue from the C.. BA will increase which will lead to more players undeserving of big major contracts. Getting big major contracts. I'm going to say any names. But it's like okay. Well I'll say this because I don't know if he's GonNa get it but there are people who are sometimes wonder now dre walgreens supposed to be a free agent this offseason offseason Draymond Green. We know he's not a guy who's going to score points we can do live. And he's a great gadget player. I would say but some people wonder. Would somebody pay draymond green the Max would they give draymond green that Max deal. That is something they definitely wonder about and like a question. Like why would you give you Max. If if there's more money to be spent draymond green could potentially ask for Max and if you like laundry a month you might give them close to it. I mean we already have players now. who try to sign that? First Max deal then take a shorter deal. Just didn't end up getting of that. Ten Year supermax dill. But you know it's one of those those things where I think that this will lead to more players being signed overpaid and I mean you obviously can see more cat room. It can lead the teams being in very weird financial situations with cap every team six Performing up to expectation and then you played a lot of guys a lot of money who may have never actually deserve the money in the first place so. I think that that's going to be something that's going to be interesting another addiction I have is. I think that James Harden will make it to the NBA Finals Cheer. I know that's pretty big. That basically means you're saying he's GonNa beat one or both La Teams. I think James Harden. This would be the best year for him to do it. I think right now this I flew. This is his best year do it. So I'M GONNA go ahead mcnabb. Oh predicts names hard. It's GonNa make the finals. These the rockets are GonNa make the finals. This may be shocking to you. But that's how I feel. I feel like that. Jr potentially do it. I feel like if he was able to average at least thirty in the playoffs and Russell could give him about twenty twenty three. That's fifty three between the two players and they have some good supporting cast. You can't forget about. PJ Tucker can't forget about Erik. Gordon Clink Appel. You definitely feel like they have all the potential attention in the world so potentially be a top team and so I would not be surprised if they end up being the top team they think they can be and making it to the NBA NBA finals. This year in basically just creating just such a great agree moment for the city Houston also another prediction. I think Diane if he comes back as soon as they say he come back. We'll still win rookie of the year. I think Zaylon has all the talents. Be A star of Zion. Comes back in balls out in just twenty points a game in gives you a lot of highlight plays. I think he will be able to squeeze out winning rookie year only only playing half of the year again. That's a pretty bold prediction but as I've anybody can do a Zairean can all takes his cause. Remember even the Luca one owned by a lot last year. You trae young exciting second half which made it interesting and don't be. We don't feel like John Moran is doing with Luca Danni last year so it's not as far fetched is not as it's not like oh it's completely impossible for Luca played so well and then trae young play well in the New Year but he's still play. Okay well it's like John Mirant is playing. Maybe the best right now. But he's not playing at local level from last year so of Zion can have maybe a trae young like surge in the second half of the season. I think he'll go ahead and win the rookie year. But it all depends on when he gets back. 'cause I do if he didn't get back to maybe mid February with that he wouldn't. It's only two months left in the season. At that point. He has to probably get back to move in the next two weeks and then just start going on a tear from game one because dial is full practice recently so he's clearly about to get there. Obviously you've seen him take jumpers you've seen him dunk Donc so I definitely things I on can win the rookie year if he gets back in time and my last bowl prediction is that the Atlanta Hawks will add a star player. This off season. I don't know who but I feel. They're gonNA add some but I feel like some of the issues they've had I flipped. They're going to add a star. Because I feel like you need to especially to make trae WANNA stay there because rotations rumblings that he might and I wanna stay. That may be something that you may want to do. If Your Hawks Front office you need to add some talent in their yep some good young talent but you're going to you know how it is as league view in a win you're gonNA have to give up that good young talent for solidified star. Obviously I feel like trays untouchable. But maybe Kevin Heard. Or maybe you D Andre One hundred maybe a cam reddish maybe push them shelby John Collins and I think they're gonNA make a trade for a proven star in this league and we'll have to see whoever that star is how far the Atlanta Hawks may potentially get because of it but that's it for me thank you for listening listening to the GMC football basketball podcast on the GMC podcast network. "trae young" Discussed on The Woj Pod

"Trae young stay with US trade. Do you remember the last time. Maybe the only time you and I have been in these. Espn Seaport Studios Yes. It's crazy 'cause last time I was here. was draft day Early in the morning. crazy day but yeah. That was the last time I think it would have been drafted draft day. Two thousand was it in seventeen. It was it was a morning of the draft. You were here with your dad. Ray Your agent Omar Wilkes from Octagon. And you were here doing all the morning shows. You're doing get up. Maybe sportscenter morale was here. Jay Bilas we're in there and I remember standing in We have those big windows that overlook the river there. Remember saying there with your with your agent Omar Wilkes and I think your dad to trying to navigate that night of the draft and I think I had reported the day before the draft night before the Dallas was was interested in trying to move up to get don-shik and I knew Atlanta was kind of in the driver's seat there. Yeah you know with the pick and that was a You you think. Think back to that draft and that night like how much uncertainty there was right until you the deal came down just as third pick was being announced I think they were. They had the support of the agreement. Yeah no it was. It was a a lot of a lot of different things. Being said BEF In the morning Omar. I was telling me different things. They kind of just let me enjoy the day and having my dad where we're talking I guess they. I kind of figured figured out a thought that the trae was going to happen between Dallas Atlanta early on in the day and They didn't want me to enjoy all the different theories. I was doing the media days I had going on This enjoy the day and didn't tell me until literally the third pig therapeutic was was made so The the trade had happened. So yeah I think like Travis. Lincoln and Donnie Nelson and mark. Cuban think they were hashing out like the details of. I always felt that was going to happen is that they went on because I because I knew Atlanta wanted you travis. Link from the very beginning it's scattered throughout you were his guy and Dallas Dallas felt strongly about Luanch and they have always you know their history with Dirk and they've always been partial to international players open to the idea and it always felt like they were going to get there on a deal but they don't get there till they're that was the night to remember with the hats right people. I I know that bothers bothers people that you like. The traits happened. But it's not been called into the league so everyone always gets flustered. You're wearing yeah. I wrong hat. Yeah I mean it's this kind of weird so now every time I look back on draft day or you look back at the video you see. Megan call them walking across stage. Mass Hat He's walking across stage with the Hawks as was kind of weird different. But it happens. I think is exciting after lead to to do that whenever on draft night But now it's definitely weird trade fourth in the League in scoring twenty seven point eight points fourth in the League in assists eight point five. I remember when you were coming out. mark Kriegel from. ESPN did a great piece about you. And and your dad. Ray Remember one of the things you you said. Was I want to lead the league someday in scoring and assists right tiny archibald is. Done it yeah. Top foreign both in your second year. Yes what about where you thought you'd be. I think so. I mean I knew I had a chance especially how hard our off season To do some some big things as a share I worked extremely hard and yeah no Archibald only one who's who's who's I think he's the only one who's ever done it and and I owe myself to a high standard so for me. It's so about the workout. Put it in the off season in the confidence. I have so Yeah I indepth can see myself when doing it. Trae six and twenty one where the hawks are right now. You're almost in about the same spot last last year. The one common denominator no John Collins this year with the suspension last year with an injury. Think you felt this team was ready to take a step up like people were talking about. Hey this is the league past team. Probably not a playoff team yet but this is going to be a team. People WanNa Watch every night people watch watch for you but when when you learn of John Collins a suspension and he's GonNa lose you know essentially from beginning of the year till will you know through mid late December here. Is this about what you expected knowing what you had left knowing what it takes seeing going through the league once what it takes to win. Yeah now it's definitely tough is definitely todd losing your best players on your team. He's He's a mean he's continuing to work now to get ready for when he gets back to be ready to jump right in and make a difference but Yeah whenever it happened is it was sad news. We are there for John. I felt I felt bad for him. 'cause I mean we were working out a lot this summer together rather I saw the work. He put in in the stuff that he was able to do. We're looking to make a big jump this year obviously With him being auto. It's been tough but we're ready to get him back Here here soon and We're going to focus on that and moving forward. Is it hard to be a really relevant player in this league. If your team's not winning at all no matter what you're doing individually. Yeah it's it's tough it's for me it's When is the only thing I care about? Numbers that as good for for looks that but for me. It's all about winning the that's all I care about coming into the business. All care about the end of the season is how much one where I've been able to leave my team and a and So far we haven't been able to to mean to grab as many wins as I've wanted as our team has wanted so It's it's all about. It's all about game better and We've had we've had a tough steph scheduled to start the season too so Not The schedule. Beer Taylor. More Home Games. I you're coming up so it'd be good for US tray. I had one of your former teammates on the podcast last week. Taurean Prince and he told. Tell me something I thought was pretty interesting. The first college game he ever saw in person he played in the first NBA game. He ever saw him person. He put a hawks. Six Jersey on your. Your childhood was just the opposite. You grew up in Norman Oklahoma City around you all the time but the NBA you. You're down the road from Oklahoma City and You and your Dad Ray would go a lot to the games there and we'll get to that because that was pretty neat what you guys are doing game night but do you have like any context when you think about trying to build with young players in Atlanta and it's hard at first and it doesn't look good it doesn't look pretty it takes here. It is really hard for young teams to win especially with the injuries. But you grew up around that thunder team. Yeah that went through that when you were a young kid you see you have that context. 'cause you grew up around a an NBA team that now. Their trajectory rectory went fast. Yeah but does that resonate with you. Yeah it does it definitely does. It's Kinda crazy. Bring that out. 'cause I mean at three play the rockets in in Houston Able to talk to Russ after a man known for for a long time and Someone of I can talk ought to and gives me a lot of really good advice. He he's talking about his his first season via and when they lost twenty seven games straight. is crazy to see. See that I remember as a kid going to their games and There's watching him play in that the whole young team and just where they were they started started to where the big three really finish Going to the finals in Anna. Obviously breaking up But just I mean the growth if they have when they were just starting together I definitely see I mean a young team like having a chance to hopefully doing that. How long did you talk with? Russ after that game with Houston. I talked to him for. I've talked for a little bit For shaves is a good dude. I mean obviously on the court. He's a dog but He's he's a he's someone who's very very genuine is a good to your rookie year. You beat them at home you you drilled them at home last year when you think of like all the moments in your rookie year to beat. Russell Westbrook beat Oklahoma City. Given you spent at your whole childhood at those games at the one that sticks out with you. Yeah it definitely is definitely up there Ricky season without the definite big moment for means I've been there. I remember going to shoot around that morning of the game and just seeing this looking back where I had my season and tickets at in the stands. This is pretty cool to to to remember those moments. So you drive from Norman to Oklahoma City for the game You would get to the arena win on a game night. Depending on who is playing most of the time. It was an hour and a half before the game whenever they opened the doors. So you'd be standing on the steps of the arena waiting for those doors to open. Yeah Yeah I would make my dad. He wouldn't want to get there that early. Make sure once I got home from school homework At the practice makes you my dad's ready to leave so we can get there for and so would you be the guy like running down the stairs like people start going to the arena. which would be running down the stairs to get down to especially the Super Young Prior like the Middle School Years I was definitely one of those guys. I was running down just trying to get close to the court so I can see those guys warm up and that was the thing right trae watching different guys warm up routines. Yeah Yeah it was. It was something that I mean I took. I love the details though things that stood out to me so just go in there and just watching the warm up and see how they prepare for a game with was I mean you need to me. What was Kevin Durant Mansa routine? His is a lot of balance stuff I mean. He vowed stuffy he still does. Today is a lot of balances him doing stuff. I mean you can't do any game because he's spending on one leg landing on two and Just a lot of balancing Some not remember his about Russ Russ he was doing a lot of mid range a lot of a lot of Just move in A lot of a lot of shooting Just used US breaking a sweat on the he was there. He was there.

"Luck during that trip and we'll probably be calling you guys if things start to go sideways okay. Thanks guys appreciate it. Bills the gas pump to bring in a guy who is a resident. GM here former sons GM and A great time to talk about him with some of the Blazer stuff that we were just talking about and that is Ryan mcdonagh who is live from Sunny Phoenix. Today on this out Wednesday morning Ryan. What's going on man? I say. Warm Sunny Phoenix Bastard. But we know Cerruti doesn't like that scale as we've already established in the show you know it's too hot it's too sunny outside. Probably making too much noise for Cerruti and now he's he's like a like an elderly thirty year old man. If that's possible. Sit Me in the air conditioning conditioning. I'll be watching you people watching watching some NBA hoops. Don't put me outside. But it's too hot. I don't say that I'd rather I've always said I'd rather be a little bit older and a little bit hot. I I really would the only ones maybe maybe Ryan. I wonder whether this is something we started the show with in it is. I mean Trey Young. It's been unbelievable this year and I I was asking scowl like why I still I still sort of feel like trepidation about whether or not I wanna go all in like we all know. I'm all in on the on the Luca Dodgers Dodgers Bandwagon. It is what it is. I think he's a future. MVP and trays putting up also unbelievable numbers. But I'm more hesitant to just kind of buy into that. What do you kind of have that feeling you like? I almost feel like you know. He's like this sort of Steph curry light in a way but scalise said a bit of a better playmaker but I still have questions going forward about whether or not this it can be somebody. Who does this eighty two games a year and into the playoffs is that fair or would you put trae on doctors just level? No I wouldn't just because the physical presence and again that's the thing that stands out when I went to Scout Luca down such when I watch them now on TV but especially in person than that. I know scalp film the other night in Boston Austin. He's a big dude. He's a big guy with broad shoulders. He's also deep as far as his chest. You Know Front to back. And that's what's Galloway's talks about when he gets a shoulder shoulder by you or gets you on his hip it's over and what he means by that physically. There's nothing you can do. Let trae young. You can review contest or you can pin them from behind off the glass because of his size and scowls earlier in the show going over some of his issues getting to the restricted area. He's a decent finisher when he gets there but it but he has trouble oh getting. They're just physically so I think that's the difference Cerruti but the thing is going to add to what you were talking about in the first half hour of the show. I I agree with you that that was one of the knocks on trae in college. One of the concerns that NBA evaluators had as well. We can't get all the way to the rim if the answer to every defensive just keep going backwards towards half chord is that a viable strategy. And I'm telling you guys. I'm becoming a believer after watching Denver last night and that was like a video game was because you know it seemed like it is a viable strategy for him. Maybe it's not for four hundred forty-seven players in the league. But for Steph curry and Damian Lillard and now maybe trae a young it seems like it is just play. Just play Papa shot from the logo and you know you'll scored thirty points a game because defense is. Don't pick you up at half court Ryan. I want to ask you because you believe he just from talking to you about this show. It's all about championship. So what type of team do you have to build around trae young. If you'RE GONNA win championships like this names or style of play. Obviously Thompson would be one of those guys. Those guys are really hard to get. You need an elite perimeter defender. SCALL- has where I'd start diversity perimeter defender and I think you also probably need an elite rim-protector somebody who gives you presence at the rim. Now the challenge is is one of the interesting philosophical debates now in the NBA. I think is how valuable is the rim running five. Think of Clint Capello or Rudy. Gobert air that more of a traditional center at least traditional and the modern NBA were guys are lobbed threats. They can run to the rim. They do not space the floor. But they rebound they blocked shots and finish issue above the rim at a high level versus the stretch big stretch big and and I think that's a debate that will continue to evolve. Do you want all five guys to be able to shoot. Maybe sacrifice something on the defensive end or do you want a guy who can protect the rim. I don't know if there's a perfect answer but I think when trae young is your point guard you do need some sort of rim protection protection and also Lee primitive defender alongside them because you are going to get beat a lot at the point of attack in playoffs you know scale teams will go at trae young. They'll try to isolate laid him to try to get him in the post and potentially them in foul trouble so Atlanta's going to need some counters for that. I'm not worried about the offensive end. I think he's talented enough and they'll get enough shooting around him to figure it out. God defensively you need to figure out ways to cover up for deficiencies just going through it in my head Ryan like I'm looking at getting back to like the way that the hawks bill and coming from sort the vet that mine of the Golden State mind thinking about how to build a team especially if you have a guy who was. We also been compared to Steph Curry. They have you know they they have Kevin hurt her right like everyone kind of joked he was like the poor man's Klay Thompson. I mean hobbies. He has a while to go to get there. But the the prototype is there right. They have the Andre Hunter who drafted who describes the perimeter defender versatile perimeter defense. That you describe who maybe play Andre Iguodala type role The question is they. Don't have the Andrew Bogut from the original team right. They don't have that guy. 'cause I don't think John Collins Holland's really is that he's more of a offensive type guy definitely not a center. Alex Len doesn't seem to be that guy anyway so I just think it is kind of interesting how they you look look at the similarities between how they built this team and they're almost mirror images of each other and that's intentional. When when you talk to traveling about at the newly promoted President Abascal ops he was the GM and they promoted him this summer? He'll tell you is that he looks for mainly two things in a player shooting and character shooting and character in those. Were those two do things collide at a high level. Then he feels like that's his guy and if you have to sacrifice some in terms of the athleticism or defensively he looks for those things so he's built a team team that way. I think it's a smart way to do it. I've always thought it's easier especially financially. It's easier to add defensive. Players are role players. You don't score a lot of points. Usually those guys command less money and free agency. For whatever reason it's harder to find the offensive stars who can carry your team. They certainly have one and trae young. Maybe John Collins can be that number two guy and They have a lot of cracks and a lot of opportunities with their young players as far as internal development but we'll also trade possibilities a ton of cap space next summer to try to find that number third guy but I agree with you. I think that player needs to be in the front court. They need a little more rim protection. Anna playmaking big but would their perimeter talent and their offensive shooting talent. There certainly off to a good start as they try to rebuild the Atlanta Hawks. I WANNA run this by because it was rick euchre kind of drop this on us yesterday. I asked him if there was a possibility that you know in the future. Or whatever that the the Knicks won the KRISTAPS porzingis straight. And he said Oh hell yeah like absolutely you know they end up getting back you know. I don't know pieces to get back to two to future first round picks. I wouldn't go that far. But he did bring up a lot of interesting points about Porzingis and his and whether or not we kind of overrated him as a guy as the the Unicorn has this future. Nba Star in New York. Do you believe that. Do you think that like we got a little bit too far ahead of ourselves and we're kind of seeing the real porzingas now or do you. Are you still patient with him and just waiting it out. After the basically two years out being injured wait a minute. So Rick Bukar said that Dennis Smith junior the backup or third string point guard on the two and nine Knicks. Coach may get fired and two future first round picks that are likely to be in the twenties. That's better than Kristaps Porzingis just so so unclear. Rick I'm sorry I'm sorry. He said Oh hell. Yeah Oh hell now I Maybe hell yeah and I just I disagree with Rick but let me just let me to to to basically fully give what rick side was. He talked about the CAP space. That would that would have opened up not having to pay PORZINGAS AMAC's contract. He's taking all of that into account because he was really really down porzingus and said he basically wasn't that God that he was built to be as like the savior of the Knicks. But let me add more to this. He also said that Perry and mills went to do the press conference not because they're throwing their coach under the bus. They were today. We're pretending that throw. Their coach entered under the bus so the players now play harder for their coach so like they got together and be like Yo. We're going to go you under the bus. So the guys who play harder for you you and that was also a theory as well so all this happened in the same Mike Three minutes so yeah it was a wild yes ryan. I'm excited graduate. Sponsors serious question. Have you guys seen Rick. EUCHRE and Dion waiters together lately. Have you seen the two of them hanging out and maybe not you know from euchre. I'm not saying that happened but I'm also not saying it didn't happen. Couldn't and a half ricketts around pretty good on the circuit but no I totally disagree with that. I actually like rick a lot. Respect his his opinion but Dennis Smith but junior. I just don't think he's very good he hasn't been so far throughout the course of an NBA career. I know he's dealing with a lot right now. I believe his step mom passed away and sad situation Shen but I think rick is really underestimating porzingus. Because I thought before he got hurt the season were important got hurt I think that was the two thousand seventeen eighteen eighteen season. He was phenomenal especially to start the year. Go back and look at the first ten or fifteen games that season. He was blocking shots. He was making threes to garden was electric. Jeff Hornacek Doc. Was the coach of the time. He had them off to a good start. So this guy's like a potential future. MVP candidate so I think it takes time and scowl knows that scales watching a guy right now or was watching until the weekend. A Guy Gordon Hayward who took a couple of years it was a really talented young player. Took a couple years to get back..

"Do you get you get a score you think so if I got if I got the ball ten times against harden do I score ones. I've seen you play. I've seen play. Well the day to the jumpers wet, that's all. I mean that's I'm just going to say that jumpers wet. All right. All right. You just go on anybody. Well, not, not anybody. I think I could score on. You one time where I don't know about. Oh now you're a lockdown defender. You know what when you get to Madrid just mentioned my name, and then they'll tell you, they remember how yeah I put up a triple double, and somebody over there. Hey, enjoy the off season. It's not gonna last long and save travels over to Spain enjoyed the soccer and good luck when the announcement rolls around you have an in an acceptance speech written for rookie of the year. Not yet not yet. Are you going to have one? No probably have it on, on the fuss, that's going to be something yet to talk about on the sly. Well, good luck with that great season. And we'll hopefully talk to you again soon. Okay, thank you. That's that's trae young. The Atlanta Hawks scored nineteen points, eight assists. And that's what stood out. I thought there was another game. Maybe it was the Oregon game but I watched him and I think he had forty or forty four and I came in and I went man, this guy has got range, he was. Plus, he had the green light. And then I thought later in his season is, is only season in Oklahoma. They gave him too much of a green light because he looked worn down and gets back to the welcome. She going to guard. We we always do that. Who who's he going to go? Well, who's guarding him? Now. That's what I always has Steve Nash, couldn't guard anybody. But who was guarding him? Steph curry James harden. Their certain guys who create a mismatch every time you guard him. Yeah. Pull a lot of people jumped off his bandwagon in November and December. Did you notice that? Yes, they did he finished with nine kids twenty years old man. He averaged nineteen points, eight assists, four rebounds, a steal their only thirty one minutes. A game too so and is shooting percentage, not great. But it got better every month, but he also had games of, I think seventeen sixteen sixteen fifteen fourteen assist in, and that's what you know, for a shooter to have those passing numbers. That's that's where you wanna play with somebody like that. Because the trae young, I saw it Oklahoma was different than it lenna because it felt like there was a little more of a pass first. Then what we sold Oklahoma. But he's still, you know, he led the nation scoring and. Assists at Oklahoma remarkable. Yeah. For fritzy. And he started enjoying the assists. More and more, I had read something where when he would set up an alley oop to one of his teammates, he would jump up in the air as his teammates jumping up in the air at the Dunkin' just to feel like a part of it, it wasn't all about how many points it can school. Yeah. And his dad did a wonderful thing, though. You know you helped him out through his entire career and. So interesting. Interesting. Interesting kid, I, we'll take a break here. We'll come back, we got our play the day, and I think we got our poll question, a stat of the day as well back after this, in the Dan Patrick show, every car comes with its share stories, right, that ding.

"But I think when you just break it down to the top two guys dodges still just a hair ahead of what trae Young's done. I don't necessarily understand the need to knock adjust team that had a lot of pieces and was a very very good team that just needed an alpha score. And it just so happened that Donovan Mitchell worked himself into that role over the course of the season. I'll I don't know. How that applies to this hawks team or this Mavericks team. But for someone like me who's champion Luca Danni bandwagon for me to speak so glowingly about his rookie of the year competitor trae young, you know, young has to be special because I don't like to be wrong. And I've talked about Don forever. Anyone who's watched basketball for a long time and understands the game could tell right away when a guy just has it, you know, when the guys basketball player, and you know, what trae young has it. I don't think there's any question about that his numbers absolutely speak for themselves. And you know, they're only gonna get better as the game continues to slow down for him. So this is this is a very apropos it's election day IRAs. You to all go out there and votre young as your of the year. I like how you're stumping for trae young. Now, this is Larry. I think my point with the jazz verse Sixers you're talking about a guy with established players in the NBA like Ben Simmons did versus a guy who had a little bit of a lesser team. You know, a guy that surrounded by an emerging nickel a yoga yoga. Guys like that. He was before last year. He wasn't as prominent of as he is. Now, it's hard to think about that. Because of reasons you bias. But but overhaul it just I'm impressed with both guys. It's hard to say which is better at this current point for their actual role in their actual team. Trae Young's, obviously, a bigger piece to what's currently going on in Atlanta because they're so such little stuff around him, and Don could sort of just kind of slide into a Mavericks team that had some talent around him either way it's neck and neck, and if you're an NBA fan, it's something that I really think is fun to watch these young guys start to take over the league as some of these veterans. Ninety seconds. So listen, no ninety seconds for the first thing we're going to do address. The fact that nickel Yokich is a member of the Denver Nuggets that sorry. That's not what I meant to say. I meant to say there. I'm lose three. Now. It is a lay doing is. It is a late evening. I'm talking about go bear and him missing time that Jess team. I don't I don't get were you think that they don't have talent. I know Joe English look English. It's like some guy who should be fighting outside of a bar in England. But this is a really really good basketball player. Rudy go bear is as good a defensive player is there is in the league. Ricky Rubio is one of the most underrated players and basketball and one of the premier playmakers along with an outstanding defender this team was talking about last jam metoo airing them position by position to the Sixers in that exact same comparison of the two guys that were the top two. It's very similar situation. Obviously the hawks are much worse team than any of the teams. Sure, I'm talking about. You're you're saying Ben Simmons slid into a situation where he had guys who were decently established in the NBA as contributors guy like J J Radic who'd been around forever. Joel Embiid who had been coming into. Zone in the sixty six games. He saw the year before I mean, Robert Covington who force argument's sake is the forty eighth best players. That is a. Did that? Before player in the NBA..

Nets fans taunt Lakers with 'Thank You, Magic' chant while D'Angelo Russell shoots free throws

"On Wednesday night. Russell was at the free throw line and fans started chanting. Thank you magic, clap clap clap, clap, clap, even though the nets weren't playing the Lakers. They were playing the Cavaliers, and they just started chanting. Thank you magic. Because magic traded diangelo Russel to the Brooklyn nets. And you know that got on sportscenter. They got all this stuff and magic and LeBron or sitting there looking at it and LeBron just staring at magic like. Yeah. You're the one that did this because he can't take any blame. And then earlier this month. The now, listen, I know I know this is about Luca earlier this month, though, Lukas steps to the free throw line in the nets fan start chanting. Trae young bad. How Don missed both free. Throws man, the Celtics and that encourages you to keep up coming up with stuff. Absolutely. No Celtics were at the free throw line and fans start chanting. Kyw res leaving. And then they miss their free throws. And then Marquel Foltz is at the free throw line. They start chanting Jason Tatum. So like, they just these guys are creative. Here's one nets fans are Channing uncle Dennis while Leonard was shooting free throws. Now, they're chanting. We have cap space. So like these guys are just coming up with all sorts of great stuff. And then the last one that I know of right now is cantor waves to the nets fans chanting, whereas Kanter and then nods in agreement as they chant you need canter. So there you go they are they are a a smart bunch, and they're trying to get in everybody's heads. And that's what I want out of our fan base. I want Mavs fans or stars fans. Cowboys fans to be in a place where they're trying to figure out how to really drill in and drive in and get an players skin. He's like in the episode where we got the Darrell strawberry. Tip from. Yeah. He is out in the outfield and Lisa and Bart are annoying him by aero and March says to stop and then Kevin he says mom there. Pro athletes rolls right off their back at which point Darrell strawberry. Sheds a singular tier one tier has. He said because he said is there since you brought up especially like with the stars. In the Mavericks, were maybe you'll hear it a little bit better. Is there any team or insult that you have ready to go like if they're like all right, Cory we're bringing you up furrow at the a c but you need to be prepared to destroy this team. What team are we playing against? Let's say the Pacers the Indiana Pacers. Your good player. I guess so broken my. The depot hea L, A depot broke his about Paul. George depot. Own now. Yeah. The ban. Well, all the Pacers players break their leg, right? God that's a chance. You could throw your your. Okay. Your legs next. What would you do for? What would you do for the Lakers? The lakers. I mean, I guess you just kind of us something along your hairline. Or you could just open up the seat next to you point out, and chant. Here's your seat because Rondo come sit. I did see that play not mas- fans 'cause I would just chanted the entire team saying you'll get traded. Veronica, did you probably will send Celtics fans that were chanting that to Brandon Ingram bronze gonna LeBron's going to trade you so man, this is that's the fun kind of stuff right there. I love when fans get raucous and really do stuff like that. So I'm in. Do we have the ability as as every sports stars Mavericks Cowboys, maybe the Rangers could do that. But and all the other places just a place to be seen at more than it is raucous and rowdy. Yeah. No. I I could see that. And that's it's getting that group of people together. They're like we're here for the game. And we're going to make a difference. You know, what we saw that this year? And I can't believe I forgot the opening game at the American Airlines center for the Mavericks when we played the timber wolves. Every time Carl Anthony towns and Andrew Wiggins went to the free throw line the entire crowd started chanting Jimmy Butler. That's right, right. Why did we stop? Why have we stopped that? Because they're not good right now. And I'll tell you that right now, though, the Brooklyn nets, I think it's working for them. They're currently tied for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. So in case, you're like, well, Brooklyn sucks think again because they. Will be in the playoffs. Yeah. So maybe that's why maybe the Mavs fans will do start getting that kind of that level of things back whenever they start getting good. Or maybe that's what we need in order to become

Joe Harris stuns Steph Curry in 3-point contest

"Boy, what a crazy crazy night in the NBA with the, you know, Joe Harris from the nets knocks off Steph curry they were head to head in the final and Joe Harris from the nets wins, the mountain dew three point shootout, Jason Tatum on the Taco Bell skills competition that in my mind, and again, Mark sure, I know the three point shootout was cool. But these were really close, and I think that's why the dunk contest was so boring today, by the way, Hamadu Diablo from okay, see when the dunk contest. But Jason Tatum is going up with I think almost no chance to win this thing. And he throws in a half court. He, and I just thought the skills competition was really fun. The skills. Contests was great. But the three point shootout was I think it ups even another step with all of the drama, and how great you had to perform even to get in the final three. And then you have you know, the leagues most likeable player three time champ two time MVP on the best team in the league in his hometown. Going to hit the last five in order to push to go into a shootout, you're telling me the drama that doesn't beat Jason Tatum baking and a half court shot. I think it does when it's trae young. And so if you didn't see it somehow you missed it Jason Tatum and trae young or in the final the skills competition in the last thing, you have to do you have to you have to dribble through some comb, kind of guy statue things. I don't even know what you would call them. But you have to travel around these barriers then you have to make a pass you have to run to the other end make a layup. And the last thing you have to do is hit a three point shot. So trae young who's much fast. Than Tatum gets to the three point arc and he lets his shock. Go tatum. Who's trailing him runs up to half court? Heaves it a line drive. It goes in. And what matters is is. That Jason Tatum was Paul went in before trae young and Jason Tatum one and a half court. Heave. I thought it was great. But I agree with you. I think the half court thing was was cool in the three point. Shootout was great. I think there was a very good all-star Saturday night. For the

Skills Competition Final Round | Trae Young vs Jayson Tatum

"I think I can hit a three in the NBA. I could not throw the pass through the tire. I think I'd have real trouble. That'd be the hardest part of that. But Jason Tatum winter skills competition than Joe Harris. I think this is why the NBA is so wildly popular. Because if you didn't see Joe Harrison Steph curry Steph curry had to have a perfect moneyball rack at the end of the final round any missed his last shot, and he had really essentially one bad rack in his final round. And it cost him the win. I thought I mean, Joe Harris said he's going to he's going to give the three point trophy to the university of Charlotte because they allowed him to practice in their Jim. Like, I mean, this was just a few good night until the dunk contest. So which by the way, okay, sees Diablo one. But is it time to get rid of the dunk contest? It is. I think you know, when the when the Brian and a lot of the stars decided that I think they didn't want to do it. And we heard some players earlier at a press availability kind of talk about how social media and Twitter has amp the game up so much you see John, and you see a lot of high school players doing these crazy doubts in the NBA guys are like what am I gonna do differently? And so guys don't wanna go put themselves out there. So I think we have some different ideas. We were talking a little bit earlier why not a game a horse one eight person bracket and you go play horse. You don't think it will be the problem is TV was could kill a little long. Maybe you have to go to pig or you have to get it down a little bit. But that could be fun. Well, we start the it's not a game a horse. It's a game. A mississippi. Then horse then big. I guess I don't I don't know. I think it'd be fun because you know, what I envision I envision Steph curry standing in the tunnel shooting three like he does every night in pregame warmups for those of you don't know Steph curry stands in the tunnel at oracle arena and shoots a really long three. And the crowd loves remember the old commercial with m and Larry Bird right with Donald's people love that spot. That's what I had. "Came to an end tonight at the hands of the lowly Atlanta Hawks who came at a staple center and used elite run to win one twenty three hundred eighteen rookie. Trae young led the visitors with twenty six points while LA's Tobias Harris led all scorers with thirty. It'll losing effort Ellsberg Golden State wanted to eleven straight with a one thirty to one hundred victory at Indiana while the Knicks lost their tenth straight what a one ninety two to the Hornets. The Rams had patriots kicked off Super Bowl. Wake in Atlanta with the annual media night with players and coaches fielding questions ranging from series. Too outrageous. They were grilled by season football writers and buy more colorful drop ins, including a man in a full clown suit and makeup and several people in full Mexican regalia, including some Burrows Nickelodeon double there was there. Some players even took part in physical challenges like tossing game at midday basketball contest. What I go to the Super Bowl. Tickets are still available Nassar tonight. You could get into the stadium for twenty seven hundred dollars. That's down several hundred bucks from last year. "But let's say I forgot to mention this. After your first point, how dare you disparage forty one year old Vince Carter, he still dunks premium? Don't you understand how important that is? No. But for real what trae young has done is very very very impressive for what is surrounding him. There's no doubt about it. But the play of guy like dodge has just been it's been more put together. And that's what I think you talked about the expectation you had and dodges sort of just already being that expectation. But that's the point. I mean, the expectation around the guy like Ben Simmons last year was he was supposed to come in and be that guy. And he was and what you got was essentially what you expect it no three point shot. But a guy that can get to the rim plays decent defense and he's going to distribute the ball. Well, it's what he showed. It LSU is what he showed in the summer league before breaking his foot that expectation didn't go away. Just because he was meeting it if anything that gave him that hit year pretty much without question. And then you mentioned the, you know, the guys around him being the difference. Well, you're looking at a guy in Donovan Mitchell who competed so. Much you're so strongly with Ben Simmons for that rookie of the year last year and who had the better team around them. Arguably the jazz were probably worse as far as the pieces around him now that may have turned out differently as the as the postseason went on. But they were arguably worse than the seventy Sixers team that sports guys who are making all NBA teams. It's it's hard to see how people are weighing that in this case, I think that the Don-Shik mega hype and how well he's performed puts him at the number one spot as of right now still you can discount eight, and I guess a little bit because you're right. They are force feeding him more with Booker not being in. But I think when you just break it down to the top two guys dodges still just a hair ahead of what trae Young's done. I don't necessarily understand the need to knock jazz team that had a lot of pieces in was a very very good team that just needed an alpha score. And it just so happened. The Donovan Mitchell worked himself into that role over the course of the season. I I don't know. How that applies to this hawks team this Mavericks team. But for someone like me who's champion Luca Danni bandwagon for me to speak so glowingly about his rookie of the year competitor trae young, you know, young has to be special because I don't like to be wrong. And I've talked about Don forever. Anyone who's watched basketball for a long time and understands the game can tell right away when a guy just has it, you know, when the guys basketball player, and you know, what trae young has it. I don't think there's any question about that his numbers absolutely speak for themselves. And you know, they're only going to get better as the game continues to slow down for him. So this is this is a very apropos. It's election day hired you to all go out there and votre young as your rookie of the year. I like how you're stumping for trae young. This is hilarious. I think my point with the jazz verse Sixers you're talking about a guy with established players in the NBA like Ben Simmons did versus a guy who had a little bit of a lesser team. You know guy that surrounded by an emerging nickel a yoga yoga guys like that. He was before last year. He wasn't as prominent of as he is. Now, it's hard to think about that. Because recency bias, but but overhaul it just I'm impressed with both guys. It's hard to say, you know, which is at this current point for their actual role in their actual team. Trae Young's, obviously, a bigger piece to what's currently going on in Atlanta because they're so such little stuff around him, and Don could sort of just kind of slide into a Mavericks team that had some talent around him either way it's neck and neck, and if you're an NBA fan, it's something that I really think is fun to watch these young guys start to take over league as some of these veterans. Ninety seconds. So listen, no ninety seconds for the first thing..

NBA is Taking A Stance Against Mental Health Stigma

"Turn our attention back to Jackie McMullan's five part series or mental health in the NBA in the final foam ejaculates the future mental health and efforts league is making racist stigma associated with seeking help. One part is particular struck me guys when Jackie writes about how players will open a helping other players, but here's who won't be the former all-star, whose mental health struggles remain unchecked and untreated his agent frets about his client has begged him to get help. But the player declines saying he can't bring himself to see himself as a bone person agent explains because it doesn't match up with the invincibility of the player that he wants was I don't care who it is, but just in general, that feeling of generation of guys that still aren't opening Danilo Ellie. What do you? How do you have to this is an especially to have battled for all professional athletes because. There is this mythology we build around and we do look at them as invincible invincible, and it's people who don't have own abilities. And so a lot of times they're playing to a persona and they're afraid to seek help, which puts them in a particularly grueling kind of prison. And then if you add on top of that, if they're man of color, because in this -ociety especially being a black man in particular, there's no safe-space. There's no way you can be vulnerable without facing some level of scrutiny or attack. And so you add all those factors and it just is really heartbreaking to see. That's why I'm so glad that so many players are now openly voicing the fact that they struggle with certain things. People in this country feel like if you have money, if you have fame, you have everything figured out. And a lot of times those things bring on more problems and more trauma and more tragedy than most people can possibly fathom or deal with.

"The game dot com and the national media is starting to get wind of all of this they're making it a story the big lead i just saw their twitter just post trae young has had a horrid some early i don't think any of us would disagree hasn't been that great he was three of sixteen from the field last night i think one nine from three point land he hasn't had a good summer league so far and a lot of panic is starting to ensue by some atlanta hawks fans including the ones that maybe wanted luca danni which on the roster instead of trae young now believe me i was on the luca train i've said this time and time again i'm trying to move past it it's already happened it's been done and again it is summer league it's not the home court for the atlanta hawks now granted would you have liked a better performance from the young guy yes being that he is your your top pick in the draft you would like to see him perform much better i am doing my best to try denied hit the panic button a little too early my panic rating is probably on five maybe going on six if you want to scale it from one to ten if you're young is in vegas and the shots starts falling i think that we can collectively breathe a sigh of relief or at least i hope that we would if the shots not falling in vegas might be a little cause for concern and you also have to understand you're going into a differently you're going into a new level outside of college basketball mr got friendly with the gym in norman oklahoma in the gym wasn't so friendly in salt lake for three nights it may be a little bit more friendlier in vegas but with all the focus that we have on trae young there's a couple of bright spots in the summer league for our atlanta hawks omari spelman he's been playing pretty good antonis cleveland which was one of those late signees i think he was on the two way contract last season he's showing signs of we're going to talk with sean tait a lot more about this coming up at one o'clock he's actually out in las vegas he's checking out some of the action right now earlier was dallas and phoenix phoenix ran away without one pretty well golden state and the la clippers it action right now in the third quarter out in las vegas but tyler dorsey has also he's also shown some signs of promise going into his second year john collins pretty much shut down for the summer league after he took that nice shot to the mush i believe it was in the second game when they were taken on the san antonio spurs in summer league action you also have to understand a lot of this on this roster the summer league roster lie these guys are not going to be on that final roster and a lot of this is reps and it's a feeling out process which how many of you actually remember what john collins did in summer league last season how many actually watched probably not that many which he showed flashes of brilliance but when it came time on the court when it mattered he did pretty well in his rookie season i'm not i'm not gonna count i'll trae young yet i've still got a little bit of faith why have two that eventually the shots were falling and to his credit he's taking it in stride very cool demeanor he expects to criticism he says he's dealt with it back in his days in oklahoma but the shots got eventually start falling and i hope when they do it's when they count because again this is this is the foundation for what's to come in the next couple of years and i know that patent just rolled his eyes in there and a bit of a little boy and i think eight and you're not the only one you're not the only one i'm there too i'm sure a lot of people that are listening to this program right now they're in the same boat a lot of talk about trae young and the first three games of the summer league there isn't there hasn't been really anything just more bricks than a masonry four four seven four one zero.

"Probably not that wouldn't be smart but he's still going to be to me a top five pick nonetheless i'm more i'm also interested in trae young colin sex because that's like this this last year which was a gar heavy lonzo votes the oh hands yeah gar heavy this draft is the complete opposite nothing trae young sex and are the only two project in lottery gars so i'm interested to see which one will go first because a lot of people view colin stakes as a safer pick but then you also have to look at trae young because had potential potential everybody right right exactly wait wait before you finish that can we clear up the damn trae young what we talked about him having bust but since you and people came at us twitter yes i because i was defending the heaven it's going to be a bus nobody what we've been say he is a buck and you will see exact words because i remember were bus potential which is it is in every draft and everybody has a bust potential lebron everybody and yeah people was coming to him like man one of those can you tell mine i was i just remember being on twitter out bro people ridiculous people were essay good into your three year threads from you tweets and people be so funny people people reply with the most idiot things taken everything is that it said out of college his responses i look for i look for him responding to respond to the stupidest shit year.

"Oh no no i'm not in part is i don't care about what the ice oh number say versus the three point numbers versus the catch shoot and it was i don't care some of this is an eye test i'm looking at him i remember steph curry sauce curry playing person i didn't see trae young person but no i look at him in i think maybe this kid's got a chance to be rotation player maybe he could work himself up and make himself two or three years in the nba you can improve and hopefully for him that's true steph curry no yeah so i'm informed in any discussion about steph curry of my position on steph curry when he was at davidson but thought it was a week right yes i thought he was too slight too frail to be a very good place let alone a star so i could not have been more wrong about steph curry who's a great player in an mvp and i look at trae young and i think you know what in the nba all the players who are regular players they're really good and teams are not gonna put trick defenses out there for trae young see i'm trae young is going to get better in the nba because he's got rains and he's quick and he's not going to be guarded by two and three people every time he gets on the bill right i don't know i agree with that look at steph curry now and i think we'll nobody can be that good but i think trae young will get better i hope it gets better tony you'll have full time to devote to this he'll be coached he'll be playing with better players and god knows this guy's that when they start practicing with the players that they do leonard was too wide leonard this.

"You know what it's my loyola gear that i can't even tell you some of that mustard on it we'll see if it just blends rights right loyal on it all right so trae young's father raeford remember he played in college as well he's a former division one college basketball player he was asked after the game about trae young future said this is something we did not expect it happened one thousand miles per hour i'm so proud of them we've got a decision in front of us right now trae young in the end ended up leaving the country in scoring and assists and i find it funny that i get it i get it he was built up big by our company like on every college basketball commercial it seemed like it was a trae young game and that they were showing pictures of trae young make it impossible shots and his numbers went down towards the end of the year in the oklahoma wins disappeared but like i've seen now like the exact opposite side happen where you think that the hype got too big for trae young now people are just saying that trae young's of flop trae young scored in his first nc double a tournament game twenty eight points today here twenty eight point seven assists and five rebounds and you you know me i've got i've got a lot of love for trae young so i again i don't know what kind of pro he's going to be you you've got some strong opinions on that but it's gonna be interesting to see if he does go pro where he's going to be drafted yeah i mean i would expect even conservatively that he'd be picks in the top probably thirteen picks i don't know if he's top ten listen i don't know what the scouts think of him remember we have a bet with see red fred over this what was tab ten sierra maybe a couple of weeks ago called in saying that trae young would not be a top ten pick and if he wasn't a top ten pick he gets to do a segment with us i think he will struggle a little bit because of his size he's not long and i think when he gets the nba may be a more difficult transition i still believe he'll go probably top thirteen because i mean he.
