"Your comments that that's why we read. Your comments is that we want to share them with people. Whether you're the guy with the saturn view with the manual transmission you and the mother of the guy. I went to high school. I think i've never heard of another one. So i'm just gonna assume they're two of those were sold But yeah like that. The stories are what make cars. Otherwise there wouldn't no one would care so share your stories with share. Share your carshield stories. Whether you've been to a car. Show a just as a spectator an experience. You've had been in a car. Show chur talk to us about the car that you've taken to the car show about the car that you saw the car show that was for sale that you missed or you may the impulse buy and pick it up. Yeah even for me for just a second. I have got such a good one of those of a car that i still think about today. This is a car you saw a car show. This is a car show as you got by. Yeah and that was for sale. I've never been in that situation. While let's be honest. I go to a car show like every other car. I'm like handing out a card if you think you might want to sell this. Give me a call right. I i mean everybody does that. There's i've never been at a car show. Were i saw car for sale. Where i take that back out here them. The rapid city. Does they hold a big car. Show right downtown. They close downtown. They'll get like two hundred three hundred cars and there was a guy selling a c. Three corvette a couple years ago and my wife is fine with the mustang okay. She doesn't she's not really thrilled with convertibles and i did make it a little loud. She's not. She's not very thrilled with that. But she loves the c. Three corvette and i love the c. Three corvette so we're at the show. This was a couple years ago and there was a c. Three corvette there and it looked. It looked good. It didn't look perfect. Mean it had a few flaws but the he. I love that about car shows. I don't want to go to a car show and see an award-winning vehicle. Now all in every spot because it gets overwhelming. And it's like. I don't know how to appreciate this vehicle when there's something just as gorgeous next to it right. So here's the c. Three corvette if i remember correctly it was yellow which i'm not a big fan of yellow but on the c. Three i mean it was just it was working. It was an automatic transmission. I would rather have the manual. But i she would rather have the automatic. I know it'd be a car that she'd drive. And it's got the tee tops. And i think it was probably like seventy eight or so seventy nine so i mean that's i mean that's of low point power wise doesn't really matter to me. It's not really hard to get more power out of that three fifty or even swapping something else right. So we're looking at this car. And i'm talking to her like do we sell a mustang. This i mean if i if i do that i like the mustang but i mean the c. Three is cool as hell. Do we sell the mustang and get this and she was kinda noncommittal and the owner of the car happened to be nearby so the order comes up and he starts talking to us about what all he's done to it. It's so smells like shit now. I'm caught you know now now we have to talk more about this and now we have to think a little bit more about this. So yeah that's that's my experience. So unfortunately i cannot find the photo that i'm looking for but it doesn't tell us about it tells about it and then and then we'll wrap up here. Well give my dad a shoutout here. Here's the one that he missed out on so we're looking at a porsche. Three fifty six. Unfortunately for reasons my mother wasn't able to be there at the time it was for sale. I wanna say it was fifteen grand and this was a time before cell phones. Let me see if. I believe this was a two thousand five. Yeah this is two thousand five image and so this is his one that got away. Author might computer but yeah that out. 'cause 'cause those those come valuable now. Yeah plus it's just a gorgeous and you can tell it's not you know it's got some kind of the bumpers kinda hanging weird. It's not perfect perfect but also it. It's a good one. So i think this might be a topic. We have to bring up again. Future episode i feel. I feel like we can talk so much more about this. And i would love to talk about this with people's input with your experience with your car show experiences with your ones that got away so last time for the for the episode here. "I've managed to serve on the board of directors for a little while and it's a. It's a great little museum people like. There's a space museum in south dakota but yes south dakota used to be home to gazillion Icbm's that go into space and ellsworth was the headquarters for some of those missile wing. So yeah there's actually quite a bit history out there. And i came up with the idea of a fundraiser. A few years ago Let's do a car show here where we parked the cars with all of these vintage aircraft. And it's been a big success. I've done other car shows in the past Last year was a challenge. Obviously because of the pandemic The base had strict regulations with regards to Masks and social distancing and rightfully so. Because i mean these are the people defending the country. If things go wrong they need to be healthy and ready to go so and technically the base. The the museum is on base property. You don't actually have to go onto the base to see the museum but we had to follow these rules so we came up with an idea. Basically a virtual car show. We still had cars there. There's the image. Watch it on youtube press. Which the there and the aircraft. The aircraft looks different. Obviously this is back when when the talent was still very much in service With the air force but that registration number eight one one nine two. that doesn't change and eight one. One nine two is on the is on the aircraft out here in south dakota so so we did a virtual show where we still had car show up but instead of everybody parking together at the same time. We had professional photographers onsite. People came in. They had one of five aircraft. They could choose to park with parked. With the aircraft's took their photo. We put it up online. There was online voting and and the show was actually a big big success. We got approval to run it at the height of really the pandemic. I guess not the height but at a at a point where everything was really shut down. So i was. I was really proud that we were able to pull off the temporary last year. That was borderline the height. That was just as things were breaking. So and of course i mean. I'm sure if you're listening. You've probably at least gone to a car show if you've ever had a car that's that you've put in a car show. I mean that's a completely different experience. I've been in car shows quite a bit really from when i was younger up while up until just right now Even if the car you have. Isn't that great. You would still be surprised. Go to a car show. Go ahead and enter yourself in a car show. You'll be shocked at the amount of people that want to come up to you. That wanna talk about it. That wanna share their experiences with that car Other it's something extraordinary like a- supercar classic hot rod or. I don't know something like an amc gremlin. That doesn't usually get a lot of love. But's it's deserving of love. You will find somebody at a car show. That still loves the gremlin. So car shows car shows and summertime man hand in hand. Here banff for me here. Just a second. 'cause i actually have a really good example of that. I went to a car. Show in zanesville. Ohio with jeanne if anyone nodes zanesville ohio. It's probably only because of their pottery that they were famous for back around the turn of the century. But i went there with an with. My uncle and there was just all sorts of interesting stuff. That showed up. That this kind of this what you would call. Kind of middle of nowhere town rightly or wrongly here. Well on that same on that same token when i moved out here to south dakota that was in twenty fourteen twenty. Yeah twenty fourteen. I was expecting okay. Itself dakotas rapid city. It's a decent sized town. But i mean it's going to be pickup trucks out here and i was shocked to find some of the most diverse car culture. I've seen anywhere. There's a huge. There's a huge subaru group out here. There's a huge volkswagen following out here. the first nissan scott. Okay not the first. The second nissan skyline that i've ever seen in the united states was out here in freaking south dakota. That's the last place. I expected to see a nissan skyline and that was an are thirty two. I mean car. Culture will survive and it'll survive in the strangest places. There's a huge drifting group out here that it just sprayed the hold they hold they hold regular events sanctioned events. I think some of them. Probably go out up into the hills and do some unsanctioned stuff that we probably shouldn't mention. I am not part of that. By the way. I drive a mustang that wants to go off the rule by itself automatically not gonna tempt fate on some of these mountain roads but yeah man. There's car cultures everywhere. And you'd be surprised when you step out just just how many people you'll find that are into it but yeah so if you're watching us on youtube right now you can see. This is a corvair van. The van version of the corvair. Funnily enough we're just talking about core bears but this was the ambulance for zanesville ohio. You can see the emergency on the front and you can kinda just see the platform on the right there and then you can see the fire. Departments jeep also on the right that this is in the late nineteen sixties. What service that area and someone kept it up and kept it on the road and kept it alive and brought it to the local car show and if that's not cool i don't know what is that's vehicle that actually served the community and rather than scrapping it. They kept it in gorgeous condition and it still around. And yeah like i said. What is this from September second two thousand eighteen. I got to see it so that's only just a few years ago and that vehicle still around and that's kind of special that that's one of the interesting things about automobiles is that in addition to being fun that they can serve a purpose and that they can help people or do things and that's kind of what we're looking at here and it was. It was cool to see. So that's why snapped that photo now. Very cool and i hate to be cheesy and corny. But it's kind of what our podcast is. All about right totally. yeah. I mean rambling about cars. Yeah cars but it's also the experiences that you have with them. It's also the people that you meet with them without that you you just. You're talking about pieces of iron and steel right right without someone to drive them. Cars are nothing that without someone to get behind the wheel and to enjoy them and to have a story about them. A car is like you said just a bunch of steel aluminum and maybe these days maybe some carbon-fiber that there's nothing there that is the story behind them is what makes them. and so. that's what special and why don't why don't we take a moment here to tell everybody to share your story with us. Podcast totally love year near stories. That's why we love getting your comments that that's why we read. Your comments is that we want to share them with people. Whether you're the guy with the saturn view with the manual transmission you and.

"Do i wanna have my car battery and for like four or five hours. I think they have jumped boxes and things for people who are starting to just assume you just leave your car running. But i i wouldn't leave the mustang running. I would probably kill the people parked behind me. Plus nobody would must be able to hear but for folks who haven't done driving if you can find one near at least once i mean. It's a cool experience to have. Of course. I mean they were big way back in the day. They're still out there now. The pandemic brought some of them back. I mean i've enjoyed all the times. I've gone to the drive in. I wasn't really super interested in lego batman but it was it was all right and yeah if i go this weekend. I'll be talking about it next week on the show real quick. This is one. This is one i drive. Pass to go to my mother-in-law's house when my wife and i go there so this is probably. This is not something i would just go to. But it's thirty forty miles away. Something like that. But what i like is that they have on their one screen. They do new movies so you can watch fast nine and nobody but their second screen. They do old movies so you can watch. Et and back to the future. And i know one hundred percent. Which to i'm picking like. Oh yeah. I'm watching e. t. And back to the future like. That's just perfect now last from a drive in right and and last year i think i think roy's out here had a couple of retro nights where they did that During during the pandemic. I think i can't remember hand but i mean yeah it's a great experience to have once. Let me do a let me do a quick share this article that i actually wrote a way back in two thousand seventeen and i'm sorry to say i mean i tried to follow up on this to see what ultimately happened and from what i gather at it just went busted. It never made it. This was a place. Where was this at in tennessee. A yeah it was. It was the august moon. Dr in currently. We're back then being planned for nashville tennessee. And the the concept was it's an indoor drive in where i mean. Does this big open arena. You drive inside. i think. I think that's what it was or maybe oh no. That's what it was. The cars were already set up inside so you weren't actually driving your car in you. Were parking outside. You're going inside this huge huge complex. You buy your movie ticket and then say you buy your ticket to go. Sit in the corvette right or you buy to go. Sit in the fifty seven. Chevy i mean in the age of social distancing that's genius those guys were just too early to right. That's the idea i mean. There are other seating options available. They had they were planning like a full bar. A full restaurants was forty thousand foot air supported dome not unlike many sports arenas yeah. It's almost like the tennis courts. They put up with the domes. I mean i remember writing this like it was yesterday and it was freaking over four years ago And i i eventually try to follow up to see what happened and apparently adjust come just faded out twenty seven did want to buy in but like now when even there is still a lot of people that kinda wanna you wanna keep clear of strangers for safety reasons. That would work completely. You go sit in some cool old car and watch a movie like that baby just ahead of their time that would have been a huge thing in corona virus twenty twenty. Yeah but it just didn't work. I you know i don't know i haven't heard of any other places that are trying to open up like that. It's it sure is a great idea though. It is so another thing we want to talk about in turns summer car stuff are car shows and i just so happen to be talking with a guy who knows a thing or two about car shows because he's organized a few so the story we're looking at now is south dakota. Airplay museum holds creative virtual car show from last year. And we're looking at a c two corvette parton. What is that a t. forty eight that that is. That is a t thirty seven. T three seven okay. More more importantly. I think it's a thirty-seven i'm kind of flaking out here now. I have to look it up. Really quick bruce darn it. Because i gotta. I can't be wrong on my airplane stuff. No that's not the t thirty seven. Oh my god. The t thirty seven was a like a small little kind of dragonfly thing. It might be what. What is the trainer version of the f five. Because that's really what it is. It's a thirty eight. Oh my god teeth okay. So i said t forty eight t thirty eight okay. Why why did i flake on thirty eight. I'm so ashamed. That's the north of t. Thirty eight talon. It's only been. It's only been used in the united states and several air forces just for decades and decades. But there's there's a cooler story that actually goes along with that. Okay tell me. There's there's an infamous and maybe bruce. You can probably look this up while i talk about it. General motors had a classic image. Press photo were. They had their corvair park next to a us. Air force t thirty eight and guess what that that t thirty eight right there. The south dakota air and space museum is the exact same used in that in that sort of famous general motors. Pr photo with the chevrolet corvair. And i've been trying to get somebody with a core to come out to the museum and do a recreation of that shot. South dakota aerospace museum is outside of ellsworth air force base. I've been affiliated with them on and off..

"Actual luxury miami the genesis just killing it right now. So they are. That's kind of that's kind of my take on. What are we what we move onto next year. Bruce and so we wanted to talk just a little bit about fun things to do with your car in the summer and specifically fun places to take your car in the summer so just off offhand. Kind of the things. We're gonna talk about here. You're going to car shows going to car races going to the drive in movies and maybe even just going to a drive in restaurant depending on where you live. Maybe at sonic. Or i was always always a fan of an. W i don't know if those are nationwide to be totally honest with you but i i like an an w like just so W i i haven't heard w in a while i don't know i don't know if they're i mean they're all over michigan. Yeah and they're all over ohio. I have one town over. But so i don't know if that's a natural thicker not now that i think about it. I don't know i don't know that there. I think there might be a an w out here. Like one of the truck stops by being. It's not it's not the drive up. W like oh see mine. Where the drive. The like the waiters waiters or waitresses would come in and take your but like sonic. Does that right. Oh yeah. I've got three sonics out here within like five miles of each other. It's own any out here. And and the one of the sonics rushmore road. Which as you might imagine. Eventually takes to mount rushmore. That's actually kind of a hot spot for the local car. Seen every now and again You'll have you'll have a car meet. They just they just take over. Sonic some extra buying the car show and the drive in. I was kinda hoping to get to. Yeah kinda yeah so. I mean yeah. There's there's some of that that goes on out here cool. Yeah there's nothing like that around here like so in prepping for the story. I was looking for the drive in movie theaters. That are around here and there. There's nothing great. There's one that's pretty far away but you and i were talking about this before the show the one near you. They must have really good social media presence because they're photos look fantastic and you're telling me they were not that great. This is called roy's black hills driving now and so i will be showing some images here and you said you've been there But they're not they're not bad. I didn't make it sound like it like it's a terrible hole in the wall. I i think the pictures are generally looking a little more generous. That's that's a beautiful south dakota backdropped against the screen. But i mean the parking lots are. It's all gravel. Their little dusty. The there kind of patches of grass growing up in spots here and there drive in the second. What do you want the concessions. I want people to come out to the car and tuxedos. I want them to serve me. Love service a white glove service with chilled shrimp. I've got to have my shrimp cocktails. No i'd like you said it's not. It's not a bad place on the pictures. I think definitely make it look a little bit better. It's sorta sits down kind of in a little valley. And i i think that's i think that must be the west facing screen because it looks like i can just see a little bit of The the black hills outlined behind their they actually have two screens. There's an east screen and screen. I don't know which one this is going to be that i'm about to show. It's a bit less romantic looking in terms of the photography. But still like maybe. I've been cooped up inside too long and haven't had a drive in in long enough but that looks great man like i mean like you say it's not bad but i mean i mean look i mean the the grass just looks kinda janke i if i was running the place i'd try to have the just the grounds looking a little bit better fair but i mean it's not bad that was if i remember. I think that was an event they did. They broadcast like a live. Metallica concert on on both screens and a i mean yeah i mean a lot of people show up the i've been there two or three times now. Okay but i mean it's typical classic drive in double feature thing. They have two screens the screen and the west screen. You get a ticket for one of the screens. You can't switch right klom anubis. Luby's for that right right. The movie start out here right now in the summer. The movies probably don't start till about nine thirty or so. Just because it stays daylight out here i really late but really late And yeah so you'll get the first movie and then those like about ten or fifteen minute intermission. The second movie starts. Of course. I mean you can leave after the first movie if you want on actually seriously thinking about going there saturday nights because the new fast and furious movie comes out. I'm not not super interested in seen though to be honest but by rides in with your wife you can have some pop pop like the thing about a drive in movie is not so much about the movie. It's more about the atmosphere like see i. I care about the movie. I've been married. The this is gonna make me sound horrible. It's like i was so we went there to see wonder woman. Okay like well. This'll be. I've been married. I believe this is going to be my tenth wedding anniversary. So it's not like i'm a newlywed. You're either. I think we went to. I can't remember if it was an anniversary thing. Or maybe her birthday but well. Let's go see wonder woman and it was in the middle of the week and there was like there was like three cars there and we were and wonder woman was the late movie so we had to get through a what was. I think it was like lego. Batman was the first movie and it was like. I just did not care and i was sleeping through the first movie i i felt really bad but then wonder woman came on but we everybody's used to sitting inside a movie theater right where you consider screen pretty clearly outside there on the darker scenes. I mean it's it's not yeah. It's a huge huge screen. But you're still some distance away from it so it was kind of tough to see detail so i just remember thinking that wonder woman. It's never gonna look as good as it is on your tv or in a movie theater. The romantic part is is that it's.

Bruce Metallica next year two five miles michigan three cars tenth wedding anniversary wonder woman ohio first movie saturday nights two screens both screens three times second movie second fast and furious about nine thirty sonics

"Idiots let's that it's not. Hey let's let's not go too far here. there are. People have their specialties. They know certain things about certain models. Yeah that's that's cool but yeah nobody's going to have knowledge of absolutely everything. The title gives zero pretense about starry. The title gives zero pretense beyond some dudes who probably like cars and know some stuff about them just talking about them and i am so okay with that at that level you guys are definitely underselling and over delivering eyebrow thank you thank you very much enjoying the fun rambling haters going to hate an internet idiots or got to try to knowledge snob truthfully even if they out no you on their specific corner sliver of the car kingdom. I am sure in jeopardy style contest covering a wide range of car stuff. They would not they would not do nearly as well as you guys keep on. Podcasting will thank you there. We've got a little bit more. I'm going to read this here. As quick as i can my many ramble below. I love my current base. Two point zero liter. Two thousand nineteen auto velociraptor. I've had four mustangs. Most beloved was my customer ordered. Ninety-one lx five notchback auto with gt interior and wheels. All bad ass. I had i had ninety two. Lx five convertible the did not have the gt interior. It had what my called the porno red interior from that era So i'm with you on that one. My weirdest car was an early two thousand saturn view. That was both an early. Cv anna four banger stickshift. I remember that vehicle that talked about that in the chat that you could you with a manual. In fact i had a friend in high school whose mom daily drove once to ride it at want so they existed well and you had the use the red line version of the view that he did for a while. It was actually kind of a hot little crossover back in the thousands come and goes on to say. I think the new maverick is a great idea. And my family had two of the originals. It is what i learned to drive with. My brother made a muscle car. A one with a two eighty nine high performance. V eight dropped in to tell you what a lot of people do that back. In the day with the mavericks that was a great little platform laced to make the late seventies early to make the high po-chiu eighty nine. That thing would be sweet to make it a little hopped up. Runabout the avs. I've seen quite a few of those and we love them also looking forward to a fun. Twenty five thousand dollars electric compact in the next few years but knee two hundred miles of reigns to make it work. Holler guys do. Well thank you very much await. This is the. There's a second part is there. Oh no that's a. That's a second youtube comment. You read the second. i'm getting out. Yeah so is the other comment got. I like listening to you guys because you're both from ohio and the great lakes area and have experienced. But damn y'all make me feel old sometimes. I i remember when a convertible was offered in every models lineup and if a car had two hundred horsepower that was the road beasts and he says his name. But i won't repeat it but thank you know in ohio yes. I'm i'm from michigan. Even though. I'm in south dakota right now. I spent most of my life in michigan. I'm enjoying the central michigan right. Like that's not i was. I was all over me. I was born in southeast michigan. I was i was born just north of anna arbor so i kinda grew up in that. It's right there that ann arbor area. Where car and driver i remember. You know some of the other magazines headquartered right there. So i mean i kind of grew up in that area and my father was a he hauled cars for general motors and he worked out of the will run plants and i kind of grew up in the car scene right there and then i went to college and moved to northern michigan for high school. Went to college in western. Michigan worked for a while and eastern michigan worked for a while and central michigan. Yeah all over all over. The great lakes st represent very cool. I'm in ohio boy. Just real quick born in northeastern ohio spent all through high school there. went to college in southern ohio and then lived in germany for a little while and then came back and ended up. Lived a little bit in indiana and then came back into northwestern ohio. So i love how casual you are on that yeah. I was in ohio and lived in germany for a little while he just went halfway around the world. two years. Sleep not i. You're on the state you you're definitely more travel than i am anyway. Okay the last one here. You want me to ticket the The email here coming. Yeah so we got us through email first off. I think your friend in michigan and this is a reflecting back on last week's episode right at the very end where i was asking for some advice. A friend of mine michigan is looking to get a new vehicle new new to her vehicle looking for some advice. Probably something crossover ish. So that's what this is in regards to first of all. I think your friend in michigan would be well accommodated with a crv and we. Actually several of us have recommended. The honda cr v. Would be a good a good fit there but the new nissan rogue is finally an elite suv. And should probably be considered. And i think that's actually a very good point. I think the road kind of goes under the radar for a lot of people but correct me. If i'm wrong but the dog is isn't anything like the top ten bestselling. Yeah it's like nine or eight last. Yeah i mean. It's like one of those that you don't even realize it's selling like hotcakes. Sorta goes under the radar. That's a good possibility as well. The coming out then wraps up here. Also i was wondering what is your favorite premium. Suv as an example lamborghini. Urus esther martin db x. the porsche mukand etcetera love the show. Well thank you. I love having you comments My premium suv. I mean i'm really digging genesis. Eighty i mean. I don't know that it's in the same class. What we're talking about there. I mean those are kind of like super. suv's yes my first answer was g class. If if i was going to buy one of that kind of class of suv's at i would be the first one. But i mean. I mean i guess it's something i haven't really thought about because i'm just not interested in suv's but no. I can't afford one either. So i think i think the eighty just looks great all around. I'm not interested in crazy performance. Suv just seems like an oxymoron. To me i know there are. Suv's out there that can do those sorts of things. I mean if anything. I would probably go for like a track or something with this ludicrous dollar in a straight line.

"Here's here's what i was gonna say is then you can get it with the targa which to me that yes. S looking nine eleven. Currently the the hard top is great but if you had a nine eleven convertible nine eleven targa. It's the target every day. It just looks so much better and you can get with. Gts package and so you can have that extra umph and you can't get nine eleven targa turbo so misses the top target. That's available yes you you can get it. In all forms coupe convertible targa rural drive. All wheel drive. It starts at one hundred thirty six thousand seven hundred. I mean that's that's not cheap. But no i mean hardest. Sixty three point one seconds. Though i mean i still think that's just a hell of a price i think for that kind of performance and of course the gts. You're going to get more standard equipment that you know than what you'd have to pay for on the lower model so there's always room for more nine elevens and the gts. I mean how do you choose when you go to the porsche dealership. Who's career or get the s argue the gts. I would be hard pressed. If a and i don't have the money for either of these full to be honest i would be hard pressed between a target. Gts or a nine eleven gt three turek which have debuted within two weeks of each other. Leanne both have their advantages. I love them both. And i don't know which of those two i would throw my money down on. I honestly don't know. I'm i'm just saying well i mean the gt three is going to be a little bit more hardcore. Even in the evening it's going to be more hardcore. It is but just. But you're not gonna have that open roof experience with the right. I mean a gts targa with the manual transmission. I honestly don't know which i would choose. They're both fantastic. And it's just funny. That they debuted within like i said two weeks ten days of each other. Yeah and since. We're talking about porsche. Also it won't be breaking news for people on friday but here literally about an hour before we started recording. A porsche announced a new partnership. I don't have the The article available porsche announced a. There's some new parts installed on the nine eleven. Gt to our s. Any dissent a new nurburgring norge league. Record with it. Six minutes forty three seconds dead here. I can show you that so. My racing came out about an hour ago before reporting yes erasing the just one this last this most recent Twenty four hours the nurburgring they are porsche said basically they are a semi factory porsche team pendant but they are very very very closely linked and they have released this new tuning package for the nine eleven g t to are asked that porsche is putting the info. Add on to explain how close they are late. This is not just a a some tuner. That's out there building stuff. This is the company actually putting the info out there and said they have released this tuning package and it set a nurburgring nor shlaefer record. And and i mean that's a street legal car. That's totally not that. That's not a race car. That's street legal car. Six minutes forty three seconds which is stupid fast. Six forty three thirty by. I mean i love. I love nurburgring records. But i also recognize the absurdity of nurburgring records because the track is so big there are so many corners there are so many technical areas. It's it can give you a general idea of cars capability ability but it's put any any super experienced driver of of that track behind the wheel. And i feel like you can always find a tenth. Somewhere of the thing about the life is that it's almost like a golf course. That even a very tiny mistake can kind kinda can multiply over the course of the lap. So that when we usually look at race tracks a tenth of a second or a hundredth of a second matters on the north's life it could be a second or a second and a half or two seconds or something like that because it's a twelve point. What eight mile. That's twenty over twenty kilometers over that distance. That any little thing kind of makes a huge difference right there. There's so many areas that you can make up just a little bit of time but still porsche impressive feats and please send your nine eleven. Gts to me in south dakota yeah or g store and i'll take that incentive to send one to to mr bruce's well yeah so we're feeling generous today. Let's let's talk some. Let's talk about some some comments exactly so thanks to everyone who has been watching us. I motor one podcast again. If you're not watching us there and you wanna watch us rather than listen to us. Please go there. that's where we are now. We are no longer on the main motorway feed But we have been getting some comments. They're both on youtube. Also on the post that we put up on motor one and also from our email. Which is podcasts at motor one dot com so wherever everybody in such with us. We'd love it and we kinda wanna read some of your stuff. Our audience is definitely growing. And we're very grateful for that. We're very grateful to have you along. More importantly our audience there. It's growing but there are also engaged. And that's what we've wanted since day. One because bruce and i rambling about cars. I mean hey we're rambling about cars. We love to talk about cars. Let's talk about some of these comments here. Okay so i will start with this first one that i'm looking at so. This was from a comment on the post that we put on motor one so great episode is always love your perspective on making alfa romeo profitable worth noting that after the podcast went live. Two things happen. one more. Alfa romeo stories made their appearance on the main page at motor one. Thanks and to alfa romeo began. Rumors began circulating that was going to make an electric g. tv Keep up the great work and yeah so that i think monday i wanna say is that one came up with that. They're rumors that alpha is going to revive the gt name and they're going to call it there it's going to be electric And at school. So i hope it happens. Yeah i mean all has has we were both saying. Electrcity has to be an alfa romeo's future forward. There's no there's no way around it's It could be a good thing i mean. There's there's some history there with the name. So alfa romeo keep listening. We've got more advice for you. Smith i think you and i are looking at the same dock here. Do you want to do the first youtube comment. Or yep yep. So here's what we had on our youtube channel And again hey. Thanks for the comments. Good or bad we appreciate it. This was a good. We try to respond to all of them. This was a good comment. Rambling about cars is a great show title. Actually there's an interesting story. I wasn't four rambling about cars as the title. I was very passionate about some other ones that i can't even remember what they were now. So we had that tells you how how how little i know about actually what i'm doing because rambling about cars is an outstanding name so thanks for the title..

"We don't have any pricing. But you know again. Thirty five inch tires from the factory. The one hundred to one crawl ratio. You have better approach departure. Breakover ground clearance water. Forty for what it's worth. I'm ready to see wrangler and bronco head-to-heads off road. Oh yeah so while we are talking about new vehicle debuts and while we're kind of finishing out this segment let's talk about one that as we are recording this it hasn't technically debuted the yet but by the time we are done recording it will debut and that is the new honda civic hatchback. And i haven't seen this yet so everybody listening. If you haven't seen it yet. Well there you go with you. I think it looks like a honda. Civic off once upon a time wouldn't an automaker debut their vehicle and debut the vehicle in whatever forms it's in. I don't get why there's a big deal over debut in the hatch separate from the sedan but hey they're trying to get more mileage out of it. I did appreciate it. They've got what four stories out of us. They got the livestream of the sedan. The debut sedan now livestream like you know i. I can't blame him. I can't blame the pr folks but yeah it. It looks like a honda. Civic that new one the major difference at the front zoom in here for anyone watching the video version is you can see the hexagon. Oh grill The sedan has slats much like in the lower facial kind of like it. It's not a big change. Obviously the much much bigger changes at the rear where you get this looping rear roof line because it's a hatchback so interestingly honda says that the rear hatch made out of a composite material they haven't said what that is. I don't think it's carbon-fiber but still that the the rear hatch is a composite material also the reopening versus the previous gen Here let me share the rear end here folks versus the previous jen that the opening is a bit larger. I believe it's one point six inches larger Make pull that up. As i'm talking about it but there you can see the rear end that sloping looks good to me What are the major differences versus. The sedan is that it has this A light bar. That kinda goes underneath the rear spoiler that that spans the to Tail lights so as opposed to have in two discrete taillights. You kinda get this unified. Look to me. that's more attractive. I like it more but your mileage vary. Any opinions. Are smith while i'm looking. I mean i know you've been a little critical of the new civic for being this kind of bland and boring and referred us one in the sedan. Oh i prefer. I prefer this much. More than the sedan is the previous generation civic hatch over the sedan. I don't think the hatchbacks look better. In general. i really liked the look of this. I like it a lot. Yes it is quieter. It is a considerably more subdued than the previous generation. Which i thought was actually just way too over styled. It had too many angles at ventures trying to do too many things at once so you noticed something. We are looking at a photo of the interior right now. Do you notice anything special about that. Interior smith op different from the different from the sedan. But nothing's jumping out right in front of me here. You can get it with a six speed manual. I wasn't even thinking about that. You can get either the on. Lower the summer touring with six speed manual. So the score is the two point leader. Two liter naturally aspirated four cylinder with one hundred fifty eight horsepower. The sport touring is a one point five liter turbocharged four cylinder with one hundred eighty horsepower. And either of those are available with either six-speed manual or the cvt. The cvt is available across the line But those two sport and a sport touring you can also get a sixty manual. And that's different from the sedan and the sedan there is no manual available at all. So i've driven the previous generation With the one point five turbo in the cvt. And i was actually. i mean. that's all. I would need in that car. I mean you can always want more horsepower. Right i mean for a decent daily driver. I was driver. Hundred and eighty horsepower. Nets going to be fine. Yeah the the way that power and the way the cvt used the power. I mean some. Cbt's i've been ab- driven are just terrible. And i thought that when did a really good job. So i'm really anxious to drive the sky. That could be. That could be all legit replacement for the old mazda six which i just got back from the shop yesterday. Some money another another three hundred thirty dollars to a to replace all the. We replaced all the coils on the on. The back bank That are buried under the intake manifold Yeah that could be legit replacement for the six. I mean with the hatch. It looks like i mean it looks like it has some decent space back there. So i'm a fan of that model and yes it's conservatively styled I guess if. I had to say anything i would like to see a little more jazz in it. I guess what styling dick you're going to get to. Yes is lake right and we know type are is coming. I don't know that that's going to be available in the hatchback body. But you know. I still think you know if you want more power. Want more aggressiveness. The sl and the type are going to be the way to go. But honestly i after looking writing the story and looking at the specs of the two and looking at the differences. I don't know why i would get the sedan over the hatchback. The hatchback seems better they also they re they tweak the suspension and steering to be just a little bit sportier on the hash back. We're the image. We're looking at now on. Youtube is with the hatch open. And i should say that. The rear cargo space has decreased. Just just a tiny bit on the new one. It's twenty four and a half cubic feet on the previous jen. It was twenty five point. Seven cubic feet so different one point two cubic fees just a little bit not a lot on a slant a lot not a lot no i. I think while to answer your question about why you would buy the sedan. You buy this a dan. If you're if your price price conscious because the sedan will be cheaper we'd prices but we don't have pricing gambling. Fifteen hundred two grand. Maybe there will always be a little bit of a difference in price between the sedan and the hatch hatch will always be a little bit more your So the people that go for the sedan. They'll be the ones that try to catch that hundred eighty dollar dollar a month lease deal probably know. No i mean that would be at that at least price. But yeah i'd be hatchback. Yeah all day long do we do. We got some time to talk about porsche. Because i'd like to talk about portion a little bit do porsche real quick. Let's do like five minute porsche thing. We can do a five hundred porsche thing. Because i mean let's be honest. There's always room for porsche right. There's always for more specially the one we're about to talk about because there's the one of these. There's always room for more nine. Elevens bruce i can pull this up here if you don't have it if you don't have it handy don't have it directly handy but i'm pulling it up now so you start and then i'll go. Well there's here's the here's the debut article The poorest on live in. Gts is out. Now what is the nine eleven. Gts gts slots between the carreira and the turbo turbo. Sorry correct career. S and the turbo asked us a little bit more horsepower. You're getting four and seventy three horsepower on that that's actually thirty more than the carreira. Sos he's not a huge jump at it is a jump. Of course you can get it with a pd care the manual the gts also has a tweak suspension it's a little bit totter sits ten millimeters lower gets the brakes from nine eleven turbo though so i mean that's a decent upgrade in the breaking department. Basically get all of the good stuff from you. You get a mix between the turbo carrera ask you get some of the some tough from the one some stuff from the other and it's just kind of a great package and it's worth mentioning eleven turbo-charged now so right yeah. I mean turbo. Th these days it's become more of a status thing they're all turbocharged. Of course the nine eleven turbo model as significantly more power significantly more boost. But but this car will still do zero to sixty three point one seconds. That's not slimy for anybody that is not slow people. That is not slow at all..

"Today on rambling about cars were falling down at under a rabbit hole. Actually we have many rabbit holes to follow because there's a new wrangler version any ways. There's a new honda civic of version anyways and we're gonna talk about some summertime. Funnier later on so summertime superstars. It's podcast time. I'm christopher smith across the ways. Chris bruce. It's been a week man. Yeah today today has been the longest week of head. Yeah i know you've had some issues but hey we're rambling about cars and cars and it's all good so let's ramble away. What are we. What are we going to get into i. There's a let's start with the tundra stuff. Because although the tender hasn't debuted yet the tender kinda sorta debuted. It's sorta did and and to give toyota credit. I have big shout for toyota for what they did with this league because our team. Yeah that was brilliant toyota. Well played. Yeah i'll have an image here in just a second for a youtube pokes but basically to to kind of tell the story. It was friday or thursday of last week. Oh what was thursday. I think anyway. If you haven't an okay you got. I was about to pay about article up to so that was. I can't remember if that was thursday or friday regardless. A bunch of folks started recording on a toyota tundra images leaked out. We didn't put them up immediately because we were subject to the embargo. And you know we we all try to play nice with these things but it was kind of one of those things where the snowball just kept on rolling and rolling enrolling and there was a point where it just had to be covered and toyota as you said to. Their credit just came out yeah here. Here's the image of the exterior. The new everyone else has leaked it so we might as well just put it out there to not pretend that. There's still an embargo in place and that's and to be clear. That's what we're looking at right here on youtube by the way we have our new youtube channel motorola podcasts. We do if you're if you're listening and you want to jump over there motor one podcast. You can see what we're talking about. That is the image that toyota put up on social media late in the day on june eighteenth. I had actually written the article i think. Yeah yeah that's me. And the article. I wrote the article and then towards the end of the damn about to log off and it's like holy crap okay toyota. Just drop this on social media. And i think they're posed with something like you. People can't keep a secret and that was it and then they just put up the that's an image of the t. r. d. pro and i mean it's just one single image showing the outside. So that's you call that an official debut we obviously still don't know stats on the new tundra. But the other thing is that we kinda sorta maybe do. I mean a little bit through like through the through the teasers things that have been no i'm talking about through bob carter at toyota top about it. Only where he was talking about the engine. We were going to kind of get to this later. But i'll just hit it now. He came out and straight up said that the new engine has more horsepower and more torque than current engine right and they put out a teaser that shows basically it shows the engine cover and you can clearly see three embossed sections on one side specifically the left side of the engine cover so generally the way every other automaker does it. You see three embossed sections you assume it's a v. six because there's three on one side three on the other side granted. It's a plastic engine cover. Maybe they're more under there but every rumor we've heard about this vehicle says that it's a v. Six and this teaser indicates that it's a v. Six we think it's a turbocharged v. Six like we don't know but every bit of evidence is pointing to that and the funny thing is is that the new landcruiser are recently talking about it debuted and what does it have. But it has a twin turbo v six. Imagine that yeah and if you look at the specs of two of those vehicles the technically the the landcruisers be six. It does beat it on the tundras. Five point seven liter. be eight on horsepower. It's down like i'm looking. It's down like one or two pound feet of torque like it. It doesn't quite beat it. But you could imagine maybe you re rattle plumbing. Maybe a turn up a little bit of abuse of abuse. Turn up a little. Do he'll be abuse. there'll be some abuse either. Turn up a little bit of boost and you end up with an engine that has both more horse power and more torque so yeah. We think that there's going to be that under there. And so that's kind of night you know you're going to have more horsepower. You're more torque you've got. What do you think it looks it. I didn't i waited until now to ask you. This was about to ask you the same thing you know i. I don't know and browsing around some of the tundra reform some of the groups. You know it's it's a really mixed bag there. Those are the people that are really into the tundra I i've seen a lot of comparisons to full size. Chevrolet trucks specifically the three quarter ton trucks with the big grill and kind of the goofy looking eyes for headlights. So i think it's about fifty fifty from what i've seen from the tons of people for me i i mean i don't think it's i don't think it's terrible. I don't think it's necessarily ugly. But i don't know i think it's a league. I want to look at. They're definitely going for the the big the big truck grill. They're definitely going for that truck theme of bigger bigger bigger on everything I mean with the big toyota branding and the grill just the size of the grill itself. It looks like it wants to eat hatchbacks and small children. I mean that's that's a clear trend. And i to be honest. I've never been a big fan of that trend. Just being big for the sake of being big doesn't sell it for me and make it make it look good. It's very like tonka truck like it's the kind of druk you'd play with when you were ten years old in the sand you know. I don't necessarily love the way it looks but from everything we've heard. Toyota itself and toyota dealers are really excited about this truck because they think it's actually going to give them a real competitor of the big three for the first time kind of ever. Because if you look you know The f. one fifty sells a million units ish a year and has for decades the tundra cells hundred and twenty hundred ten. It's a very small number compared comparatively. Yeah it's you know. So maybe finally there. They think that they're going to have something. That is a real competitor. But you know when you look at the f. One fifty and especially when you look at the new ram they both have a fairly large presence about them without having a frankly ridiculous looking grill that the that the two hundred has here. I mean i think the new ram is actually really handsome truck done. Well i if. I was if i was in the market for a new full size truck. That's actually where i go. Toyota with a tundra. I guess i feel like maybe. They're trying to mimic ramp from like three years ago. Yeah back when they're grill was still just way way over size compared to the rest of the semi truck jeff and and mean i certainly see the comparisons here that people are making with a three quarter ton shelly pickup trucks there's a lot of similarity does that big brash grill with kind of a smaller headlights on the side I mean i think it looks better than than the chevy. I just i don't like the new chevy trucks at all. Not half not the not the three-quarter done so it's better there so i have to. I wrote up the story. And i actually have to give a reader credit for this. 'cause i didn't think of it at the time but when this comment or minute mentioned it like it all kind of clicked in my head so we got this rumor out of japan that there is going to be the lexus. Lx seven fifty. H which in their nomenclature basically it means a hybrid engine with a bunch of power And that is going to be the three point..

"All right we remember the campfire correct in california was the deadliest wildfire in state history while allen pierce is an intensive care unit person parrot our nurse in paradise california last year he risked his life to save patients from that campfire it uses toyota tundra to settle patients to safety when the fire spread and got close to the hospital he went back and forth multiple times he got so close to the flames that is doors were charred in his tail lights melted but he doesn't have to worry about replacing it because toyota heard about the story decided to replace it with the brand new toyota tundra nice they modifications to it though vijay added a heavy duty roof wreck bigger tires a lift kit in an unborn c._o. two tank think about that comes in handy here's a coolest part though his charred doors were kind of like a badge of honor so they did a custom paint job to recreate the look in even gave it some texture where the old paint a paint on his old truck had boiled in bubbled up so they kind of did that on his new one gave him the new truck in november and he recently are they gave him the new track last november but recently surprise them with the custom paint job oh man in that you gotta give toyota going above and beyond think about enough to do the custom paint job to char- the doors on this thing it looks cool very cool in definitely a lot higher that his old one and i like the fact that they put the o two tank in there because they're coming handy big time they look kudos for toyota toyota guy but kudos to toyota apparently it's raining outside people coming in with umbrellas but cou does toyota for stepping up i i really liked to have stuff like that all right are you guys familiar with an idea like the self checkouts at h._e._b. i adore them depends on how many items i'm dealing with really yeah see i don't like them at all i don't like them at all because i don't i just think we're taking somebody's job well floors ville we have a little h._e._b. yeah and i had not been there since we got back from denver right and that wasn't that long ago i went in there saturday morning and we've got self checkouts now when did this happen was only two weeks ago i don't like them you know it all started when you didn't see any baggers started to have right bag your own groceries and i was like okay i just spent like two hundred dollars at age his bag migration let me ask you about that when you go to h._e._b. take your own grocery bags f i remember sending keeps ours farm she keeps them in a car so i never have one with me and i feel bad because i go in there and i've got you know by like five items and they wanna put they wanna give me four different bags i keep telling guys can just put it all in one bag please or if i go into a couple of things i'll tell them no bag and that always throws him off and it's really does it looks they look at me like what but we use those cheap little grocery store bags like for scooping litters diaper yet but i have i have a on my doorknob by my back door you know the door that nobody ever uses i got one hanging there that's like overloaded with those tags i need to start you need to resign You need to bring them bringing bringing. tell you but i don't like i don't like those bags and go in and buy a couple of things i'll tell them no bags and i get the funniest look when i say no bag and even when you're bringing in those reusable bags i feel like i'm shoplifting Jerry tells more. can just be random bags back i am so against the self-checkout i don't understand the logic behind it i really don't i find it a challenge by get through the whole thing and not need any help that's such a big thrill for me to buy beer out you know wine you'll be good because then they go I need an idea to tell you more than twenty one. Earn hard on this. i don't understand why they think they got a car to fifty six year old man to tell me that you know if it's a woman it makes her feel good guy not so much a hassle yeah but the only cool part is when you hear it successfully scat The little little check. "I don't see a lot of them on the road. I know it's fairly new. I believe the reason I'm asking I'm contemplating purchases vehicle, and I drive ninety miles to work one way. It's about twenty thousand miles a year because of my schedule, but just looking for that next core purchase and need to consider four-wheel-drive winners and just curious because had any information on the ram ecodiesel. I have a friend that has one he swears by it. He loves the gas mileage, but I can't tell you what he's getting because he's never been to one answer that he says it doesn't feel like he's using a lot of fuel diesel. So so I don't know. That's the thing. You gotta weigh out is going to be worth it. If you definitely need a truck. I would say, yes. And I will say the best thing dodge ever made in in. I debate this with anybody that is their diesels. I would not personally by a dodge truck unless it was a diesel. So I think can go right? If you have to buy a truck might Toyota tundra. I absolutely loved when I had it. It was awesome truck. But the gas mileage if you're driving a lot it may not be for you. But the reliability it'd be a lot better on a Toyota. But if if you're driving a lot, I definitely lean towards a diesel. Has there been I mean are are the ecodiesel lasting as long as the Commons with it? I don't know because the ones I've been around. They haven't been around that long. So, but I assume these last long even in some of the weird ones other than the GM nightmares in the late seventies. I I've never heard a bad thing about it easily. If you keep the the the diesel the CTO enough on it and make sure you're changing the filters and taking good care of to Austin before news headlines Austin online for what's going on chief. Hey, how's it going? Great. How.

"Us comfortable. Like, y'all come on my side. If you want more joy because right now, if you're miserable because of it if that's how you feel you got misery. So come out of that. We're all we're all just laughing try to fuck in the fucking door. We're all just laughing to keep from crying. That's really what we're doing. Because I know I know I'm that type of birth. Hey, I know I'm that type of person I'm the type of person who motherfucking when something is like real dark here and something like real depressing. Somebody's going through something I need everybody to laugh immediately. So I'm gonna say some shit. You know, what I'm saying to get everybody coping mechanism cope with my sheets. I know that everybody doesn't cope with their shit that way only. So if they hear me talking about the molested at eight, and they think that I'm trying to make light over the job of it. No, I'm not that's just my coping mechanism. So all I'm saying man, I feel everybody's. Pain one your now, here's this once accepts something that's happened in the world or some of this happened to yourself. What you accept it? What you do with that is up to you. The only tell you not to joke about it. Right. Because that's how you're processing that shit where they can be mad about it. They can do whatever fuck they want. What I'm saying is was bring you more joy is bringing more joy being mad. The situation was a bring your more joy trying to find joy in it. Now, some people the how the possibly could you find joy, and all these horrible things me a few minutes. You know, what doesn't bring me was trying to plead their fucking by dumplings. Anyway, only do my coping mechanisms because I'm the person that has to deal with this shit. You know, and and you know, what else brings me joy having like like, you know, constantly, evolving, constantly, growing, learning empathy for other people, but I'm doing that. Because I you want want to do that's the thing. People don't want to be pleased. They wanna be lead. Yeah. Yeah. The biggest contradiction. The world is the assumption that people wanna be pleased. They don't want that shit. They wanna be let you were telling me the other day we were talking about. I think it was last night just about like even the idea freedom like people think they want freedom. No, they want security. Yes. They will trade that freedom for security in a heartbeat. They don't have no freedom. Now, they got free will you'll have much manner. Snatch. Time. I tell you to be upset about something upset about it. Thank you, very well are soon at the time. I tell you to care about something you hear about it wasn't man. This is a dark conversation. So we're going to lighten the. Reckless motherfucker. Bills. I I they will come back and talk the Lori L in wax year. Toyota isn't just a car company and the new podcast Toyota. Untold isn't just about cars. It's about mobility is about helping people move physically socially and emotionally as respect for people and continuous improvement in Toyota until you hear the behind the scene stories about how sons love for his mother's. I mother led to Toyota's unlikely origin as an automated wasn't automated loom company. Why? And how a Toyota tundra was used to TOA space shuttle through the streets of LA and how robotics and other advances in technology and mobility services are being researched and developed to address challenges for the elderly.
