"All right, well, mister attorney general, we're going to leave it there. Good luck to you in these cases. We're going to be following these developments very closely where can people go if they want to get more information and follow the work you guys are doing. Certainly, check out the AGO Andrew Bailey, Missouri, our official website, we will be posting regularly. Just keep the people updated on the work we're doing. I love it. All right, well, thank you very much and we appreciate the great work you're doing for the country. Thank you, sir. Thanks for everything you do. All right, there you go. The Missouri attorney general, Andrew Bailey. Unbelievable. And by the way, the problem is still not resolved. I was talking to Jack posobiec over at human events a couple of weeks ago. His stuff used to always show up in my feed. I regularly check out his speech several other people, and all of a sudden it just disappeared. Have to physically search for his name to get his information. So that tells me that there are still people inside the Twitter world that are censoring conservatives. And you say, well, you know what? It's Twitter's own, you're not paying the bills. It's free. So why are you complaining? Well, I'm complaining because they set themselves up and advertised themselves as a free speech platform, and clearly they are not a free speech platform. Got to take a break here, folks, 8 four four 747 88 68. That is our telephone number. You heard of the attorney general on the patriot mobile newsmaker line, and now is a great time, look, I'm telling you the dollar is being stretched. So what better way to check out patriot mobile? They're America's only Christian conservative wireless carrier, and they have a plan to fit any budget, and they're not going to strong arm. You like the other guys do. But even better than that, when you pay your Bill, they're donating a portion of that money to fight for causes we care about, especially these imported school board races. Patriot mobile dot com slash Todd, that's patriot mobile dot com slash Todd, or you can give them a call 9 7 two patriot. Now listen, if you want that discount, gotta use my name Todd. That's patriot mobile dot com slash Todd. So apparently, President Biden doesn't know how to pronounce the name of his vice president, so they've been able to round up some kids to help the president understand and learn how to pronounce the vice president's first name, cut 13. That's what I asked Kamala. I'm asking for your trust and support in 2020 for camel and me. But as Kamala said it's not Pamela. It's Kamala. Oh, the more you know. There you go. I was always camp. In defense of the vice president or the president rather, I thought it was Camelot. So anyway, kakko figure. So by the way, did you see the photograph? They had one of the sports teams up at The White House taking the big group picture, and they asked Biden to take a knee. Did you see that then they asked Kamala? I'm sorry, Kamala. They asked her to take any, she refused, adamantly refused to take any. There's the leader of the free world bowing down. On one day, I'm surprised that I was able to get back up, but anyway, there you go. All right, I want to play some audio here, and we're not going to play this in its entirety. But this is, I want to go back to that first hour conversation at this poor hockey player that's getting the what for. There was a TV host going off on this guy for refusing to wear the pride Jersey cut 18. Three things technically. Provorov also spoke to the media after the game, and echoed what tortorella said. So I didn't feel the need to run it. This happened in baseball last year with the Tampa Bay Rays. There were 5 members of the Tampa Bay race who wouldn't wear a patch supporting gay rights. And Major League Baseball didn't do much. It was a story for a little bit. John tortorella, you know, many years ago when racial injustice and the psilocybin when Colin Kaepernick first started kneeling during national anthem said anyone who does that on my team is going to sit. And he has a son who's an army ranger. So it's not like toward around in the past hasn't spoken on sensitive issues. The theme from the National Hockey League is hockey is for everyone, okay? The theme is not hockey's for everyone dot, dot, dot, unless you don't believe in gay rights, then do whatever you want. If the national Hockey League's gonna do this, if any league is gonna do this, do it properly or reevaluate what you're doing. Because there's not a lot of repercussions and I'm seeing from any league. Now it could change with the NHL. Could change with NHL. I think you find the flyers a $1 million for this. I'm not kidding. Figure this out. Stop defending people on nights where it's not about that. It's supposed to be about inclusivity. The National Hockey League need to attack this and figure this out. Because what I heard last night was offensive and didn't make any sense because, for instance, if that was a military night, okay? Right. If anyone in Canada or in the states on a military appreciation night wouldn't wear a Jersey pregame, do you have any idea the uproar that would have happened on that? Do you have any idea the backlash? Do you have any idea what happened on social media? It's ridiculous. It was just a minute ago. We were talking about the uproar that was happening with FIFA fever, where if you were seen with so much as rainbow anywhere, you had to fear for your life imprisonment or death. Seriously. And now here we are. I just think the NHL has to do something here. This is not good enough. This is not good enough. Hockey is for everyone dot dot dot unless unless you don't agree with gay rights is not the phrasing of this. You're either in this or you're not. And one last point, nothing scares me more than any human being who says, I'm not doing this because of my religious beliefs, because when you looked at people's lives, you normally say that publicly, you throw up at what you saw. You would throw up at what you saw. And I've seen that a million times and a lot of different ways. So nope, don't give me that. With respect, don't give me that because no one's perfect. All right? Don't tell me, don't feed me the religious beliefs line. And all of a sudden the NHL is going to back off this. The National Hockey League today needs to find that organization a $1 million of reevaluate how they support gay rights. Because that is insulting. That is the number one trending topic in Canada. That is insulting what happened in Philadelphia. And if the NHL serious about this, they say they are. We'll see. We'll see how serious they are today. But that whole thing was mishandled and I part of me couldn't believe it. Part of me could consider how the NHL sometimes handles things. And it's too important, and that's why you're continuing to talk about it because you're not just going to brush it under there. Well said D all right, that's a guy named sig Sid sex ario. No, I'm not kidding. He's Canadian. So you got a discount that. The Canadian part. Sid sex areo from breakfast television. That's the name of the show. And man the guys really upset about it. He said he needs to be fired or fined a $1 million for what? Again, my question is, can we just not play hockey? He says hockey is for everyone. Okay, it is. But we're not talking about saluting the military. They're talking about saluting a sexual sty. You know, whatever you want to do in your bed is your business. Why do we have to celebrate it on the ice? I don't understand that..

"A is probably thrilled to be going to the all star. Anyway. Torta raud has ripped the all started. I don't care. It's not think about this weekend. I don't care. I don't care. I don't care. You know, first of all, let me get your response to that. Does it matter to you? Does he need to be more respectful of the game of the players involved of the spectacle recognition? This isn't for you, John, the system for you. This is for the fans and it's for the league. So I'm going to stop there, let you answer, and then I've got to follow up that is league related. I think every coach could care less about the All-Star Game and who's going to them, it's more of a pain in the rear end than anything else. There's a different there's always a different way to answer a question. I mean, like he could say, I don't really care, but it's good for the players and the fans seem to like it, and the corporate sponsors seem to like it. Like that, that would be the easier way, not the John towards way of answering the question, but it would be the easy way to answer the question. But the coaches and the managers, they don't care. They're like, what does it matter to them? It's a couple of days off. And you hate it if your team's going well because you don't want to lose any momentum and you just don't, it's a non factor really to most people. Like that aren't going. If you're not going, you just look at it as a day off. A couple of days off. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Well, look, the NHL wasn't happy with this comment. And in fairness to towards, it was at the end of his availability. He answered, you know, he brushed it off and then he walked away. So the NHL reaches out to John, come on, like this is a major event, you know, it's for the fans. It's for the sponsors. It's for the players. He apologized. So it feels like it should be end of story there. But tell me what you think about Philadelphia, right? I'm looking at the Philadelphia flyers. And I just don't see it. I see that they've got some good players, Carter Hart has had a decent year in net. The hiring of John tortorella for that team and I'm sure we've talked about it on the pod before is curious to me because it's like ownership in Philadelphia said, well, you can talk chuck Fletcher about a rebuild or a renovation. We're not investing in that. So you go out there, do your best, John turnaround is available. Let's hire him to coach this team and maybe he can put us right back on track. And it just doesn't seem to be working. Look, they've had flexes where things have gone better. But that doesn't seem to change what appears to be an inevitable, does it? Like this team needs a ton of work. I can't for the life of me figure out that roster. When you say whether John is the right coach or the wrong coach for a rebuild, you could have anyone you want standing back there. And that team is a mishmash of players of various ages and contract lengths and I don't see any way that a complete restructuring has to happen. Here's the problem. And I don't forget into it later on or not.

"Reactionary they wanted to get through the weekend while they're now through the weekend And and then just kinda let things settle a little bit. So you know andrew brunette probably better than most Just historically speaking real sharp hockey mind you know funny guy. So i'm wondering what you think of. Even the interim appointment of of brew as head coach now of the florida panthers and whether this is something bills either on the panthers should consider long-term. While i was it was hard to be happy given the circumstance For grew to become the head coach. But i was happy that he was getting an opportunity to do it at one of my favorite teammates of all time honestly one of the funniest people on the planet. Here's another thing about him. He didn't make the nhl till he was twenty seven. He scored led the american league in scoring not fast enough not fast at nine. Twenty seven before they expand to nashville and brew gets an opportunity than he ends up. In minnesota another expansion team then he ends up in atlanta another expansion team scored the last school ever on patrick wa in game seven against minnesota in overtime and i said to a wall must looked at that at that. Highlight clip said brunette. Deked me it's time to retire. It's so brew ended up playing a thousand games so my point drake's is that he was a grinder of the game. He's he loves the game he loves the nuance of the game. I he's a fantastic people person. I think he would be a really good head coach now. Would they continue to allow him to be the head coach or do they look at some other more. Tried and true guys because man. This is a good team like do you want to do. Are you comfortable enough with a man with two games of head. coaching experience. Now to be your head coach i. I don't know what bill zito will will find there. Yeah and you've got the relationship. Historically with bill zito in columbus and and john tortorella hence the john tortorella speculation possibility on them whether he's a fed there I mean we. Some of us in the media always look towards his potentially being the closer right So the the opportunity here might be a fit but deer point. That's up to bill. Zito and ownership of the florida panthers. Why don't we wrap up headlines with two for one here and again we're acknowledging you know some of the real positive starts at the clubs around the league less than ten games and as we record saint louis section one. Not saying they didn't see this coming. I'm surprised how strong they've been boffa. Five two in one under donna. Granato surprise. Knock that don has had the influence that he's had but come on. I mean they're they're still very much in a transition of not a rebuild start was lumped both those teams in the final piece of headlines here. But i've just had enough jordan bending and and and the the antics and the nonsense right i mean. There's no disputing. He's al of a goalie is down. Come champ deserves. Respect the the waving of the stick swing and all of the at some point not advocating at some point..

"Nba reuther a Who now that. I think about it. Let me look this up really fast. But a classic guy who was like twenty three years old playing college hockey and look incredible. You know and i wanna say around that time. There was some pretty serious interest in him from carolina. I don't i think the ultimately signed with dallas. If i'm not mistaken But like i feel like i. I heard the carolina was like dams kid rocks and it makes sense. He's a he was a highest score in defenseman in college. Hockey so That's the kind of guy. Carolina likes well speaking of the geeky. Pick that one for me and unless to deal with the player himself could do it as an interesting vile I just thought whether it was. You know jake beat in terms of upside slash potentially being a For them or need rider similarily as a trade ship with only one year left deal. I thought it was kind of a coin for between those do but there was no other options. They just came out of left field. Geeky i imagine the hurricanes themselves are are very happy with that being the outcome so they can keep both of those two other players instead and you know. There have been rumors for weeks. Warren fogel on out. And now maybe he doesn't is the the latest i think i've heard Mean clearly the guy just like geeky. I think that's fueled trying to take away from that Yeah i mean. Carolina in columbus arcana the two teams where. I thought they had a pretty straightforward. You know take him in flippin player on the table and they decided to go with the okay maybe this guy will compete for the first call up by or or in case you know. Maybe he'll be a fourth liner on this team. I mean just kinda two situations where where it really seems like. Okay there there has to be some kind of side deal going on here and then the dust settles and it's like. Oh no they really liked i. I'm not even going to say his last name. I gathered whatever or very better. Get to know that name. Yeah no exactly it's But yeah i think the thing. Don't me was was a little strange to me because i was hearing all the same things that you worry about you know. Oh there there may be looking at stenlund or they're looking at coupon or or whoever it is at the thing is kinda strange too because you know i mean he's going to be inserted your i think he's projected to be out until late november. You know i made was kellyanne croak. They both the same term left on their contract. I i would have imagined that the upside of maybe adding a couple even just a couple of weeks where you take max domi out of the john tortorella columbus system and let him just kind of be the peer off guy that that he clearly has been for his entire career might have been burst something but yeah i you know it's the same thing with with the anita is like here's your rental obviously rental. Obviously we'll get you a second or third round pick at least and They just say no. We're going to get our fourth line center of the future which i guess speaks to the kind of team. They're trying to build. Yeah yeah diving. There were a number of those choices. So it'll be interesting to see what amtrak you'd be more news to come out of this but i think that are the best. We've got here in terms of what we know now. Was there any other notes on the expansion. Jaffer decisions players involved or anything that he wanted to to get..

"1300. Your thoughts on the avalanche are welcome at 522987 to have Patty on the line just dropped off. I don't know if that was our Some phone system, or was you Patty? But please call back would love to hear from you, Uh, let's go the text line. In the meantime, Albert Says Not that the Avalanche are perfectly put together roster with the Hall of Fame coaching staff, but I don't know what they are missing. Maybe they need a good psychiatrist. Perhaps I have not looked into the psychiatrist situation. For the Colorado Avalanche. Um Albert says. Don't fire Ben are and, um Things that I may The short changing Mike Babcock, which is which is fine. Babcock is a solid coach. He was burned out in Toronto due to unreasonable expectations from a subpar roster and I do acknowledge. That the the expectations in Toronto are much higher for obvious reasons. But none of them based in reality, so I can kind of get that. But I do think that He had a very good Stanley Cup run based on one of the best goalie performances I've ever seen in a Stanley Cup playoff with J S. Giguere. And he went to a Detroit team that I think even you Albert Wedding knowledge was primed and ready to win a Stanley Cup and I'm not trying to take away credit from him because They didn't win one the year before he got there, and then they got he he got there and they won so, but I'm just saying, it's not like he built that team from the ground up. And maybe that's the argument for Mike Babcock is that he doesn't have to build this team from the ground up. He's just got to get them. To the next level. Um, but It didn't work out in Toronto. It didn't work out for Claude Julien in Montreal. It didn't work out for John Tortorella in Columbus. So I just my biggest thing. Is Who you gonna get? That's better. Do you believe that any of them are better? Just because at one point they won a Stanley Cup. Tucker says. It's easy to lay blame when you lose. Maybe everyone needs to take the blame. Maybe the avalanche over achieved a little during the season wasn't there year. I like the AVS, they'll be back. And I think that's the moral to the story. When you have a loss, like the haves had you have to look at everyone and everything. You have to If you don't, then you're not doing your job. If you are Joe Sakic, or even if you are the crock ease, But we all know the situation that we are in with the Kronke family, and I doubt that there's anyone that's going to take a look at Joe Sakic. Um Joe Sakic needs to look at the, uh And I know I certainly don't advocate for Joe Sakic to be fire. But I do think this team to Alberts wondering what they need. I think they need to. I think they need to get A different kind of defenseman. In here. And it is one of the positions that is the hardest. Two. To fill because Guess what? Every team is looking for defenseman. But I think with all the offensive skill That the Arabs have on the blue line. They could use some nasty on the blue line. I would say if just my first blush and I'll you know, take the weekend to kind of sift through it all and See where the AVS need to make changes and stuff because we're not leaving the Avalanche conversation just in today's show. But that's the first thing that sticks out to me is maybe It would do them some good to try and I don't know who's available. But to try and get more defensive defenseman. Ah! Think it's got to be one of their Needs going into this offseason. But like I said, Join, Get in line. Is there a lot of people looking for guys that can play? Well, um, on the blue line offensively and defensively. Uh, um, to to.

"Let karma calling and that whole thing with his neck so he hurts his neck of the twenty one game mark and he's been out all season and he was planning hit it all set up to get neck surgery and but the the team is Basically run a thrown the stop sign in front of it so he's feeling disenchanted about that feeling like there's a real disconnect between himself and the franchise right now which which has surprised with. I think the end of the day like it's my body. You know like if i decide i want to get surgery on my neck should not be my decision but apparently the team has a big say in it. Well careful what you wish for to jack talking about you. You know maybe time to get out of the get out of buffalo. Yes buffaloes in a in a terrible way you know you just pointed out. The ten year drought here of making the making the playoffs. So he's going to be up for trade well. What happens if they look at it and go kate going to send you to vancouver. Send you back to jersey. We're gonna send it to detroit where there's a handful stevie couple of teams in each division. That are shit. It's like you wake up or yo- jack you got your wish we've say to yet another team. That's into into a rebuild. Like oh that's yeah i get the feeling he's hoping he could get traded to edmonton or something. Yeah toronto to anyway interesting. I wonder what the market's going to be like for a guy like that because there have been some red flags that takes up a lot of oxygen and that he's uncertain pseudo running the team and making anyway really. Yeah it'll be interesting to see if what kind of the market. He's tremendously talented. But people are scratching their head about. What's the deal with that guy. If i bring him in. Is he going to score. Two goals for me So it's going to be an interesting off season. Certainly for the buffalo sabres and for jack eichel. We should call it a day there. "So ideally you'd like to see them hang around from you know both beyond the first round but the leafs are gone and They're seen as good a bed as anyone to win the stanley cup this year. So that's all the cbc really cares about. Yeah although stevie calgary still alive i mean. This'll be the long shot of the of the frequent century they get in. It is interesting because calgary is going to be taking on vancouver which of course that is playing out the string of the stage and they their season is gonna just bleed on a week after everybody else's done so calgary's got four games left but they're all against the canucks which is Those are winnable games. There's no question about that. And then they got away from all the way it is. They'd have an montreal has to lose their lives to right there. They're eight points behind and they then they would be flames up forty nine points with four games left much as fifty seven points. So they're eight ahead with two games left so whatnot is that they i think this. The tiebreaker is row relation overtime. Wins and so in order to catch montreal they would have. They would obviously be ahead of them in rows if they do catch them. Yeah ok okay nag. Every every other series is laid out. It's already done this. There's still a few like boston. "All right james we gotta go any final thoughts today. Well i was just reading Before we do about the barry trotz thing which which falls right into what. You're saying that that people shouldn't do so. The islanders win three of their first four games. Okay this year which is great and then they go on to lose their logitech lost their last two games. Okay and now. Barry trotz is going. We need more okay. I just felt like we only had one line. We're going to shake some things up here because blah blah blah blah blah. Right and and. And i gotta think you might wanna say really trotz if you listen to this. Show tune up going easy now easy. No yeah. there's there's a quote in the in newsday. I think it is. It's a playoff mentality right now. No sorry the athletic. It's playoff mentality right now and i'm not sure we have our playoff mentality yet and it's pissing me off now. I know berry. That's a short season but it's not that short. It's still fifty six games and it's going to go on for many months and If you're throwing that around. After two games i mean. I haven't seen the islanders last two games. Maybe it's been that bad uniquely bad but And barry trotz knows more but coaching than we ever will but it seems like a little excessive at this stage of the game for for all the reasons we talked about earlier. Yeah yeah absolutely anyway. We'll see. I wonder what our show will be in the next When another six seven games in the books yeah so much is going to change. There's no question in know year you have a goalie. That's a riding along with the you know an eight fifty save percentage. And everybody's going. Oh my god. That's the worst ever. And then he winds to the next three and suddenly a save percentage is up over nine hundred because it's such a small sample size. You can't freak out too much about it. And yet people fans and even coaches seemed to be but with that we'll call it a day james..

We got a bunch of players weren't trying. Yeah no no no question about that. But back to the sends for a second in that model that i gave you ten months without a game. You've got a full half roster that has changed over. You've got a rookie head. coach effectively. Hasn't even played ear. Coach eighty two games in the league yet and it. Just don't you think that's unrealistic for fans to be this upside down like they are in ottawa. Don't you think that that's a totally unrealistic. Look at things that you know after eleven games. You're ready to on by the way on opening night. You know this team is maybe a playoff team in a lot of people's eyes and eleven days it's been a complete overturn of the attitude. Everything sucks right now. I can't believe the not playing the kids. The veterans a bad the goal is bad. The coaches bad. The gm's bad. It's so early as my point that it just seems crazy. After eleven days. The people are reacting this vehemently about the sins being junk. I've always never liked that. The team bearing fans bearing their team regardless of what's happening right not everyone can be a winner. I know i know. I do see what you're saying and i understand that That you got to look at the facts. Look at all of all of what you just pointed out So like for dial it back folks dialed back here. Go ahead and bury them in a month. But be patient for now or or or next year you know. Who are you gonna listen to. Who's credible you know about the sense that would be you and i gotta think back to when we interviewed. Gordon wilson okay. Who's been with this team since day. One and in the end of the interview What i took away from that is gordon. Said it's not gonna be a great year for the sense It's going to be a very tough year Just short of saying you know. I think they're gonna have a hard time making the playoffs. So that's why. I look at to make make the assessment of the team. And and you gotta you gotta.

"When they're you know weighing in on they gotta trade this guy in the hate this team and you guys are going through it in ottawa. Where everyone's you know writing off the ottawa senators right now and but some of it. I i understand i understand it now. Where where you know. I got a friend in winnipeg. Who when the when the winnipeg jets left for the i. Guess the second time They've only left once or the. Yeah okay so when they left it brought the town. You know like there was like this depression. My buddy he was. I was talking on the phone back then and he just went. He went on at length. About how how. It's harmed him. So fans are fans man. They're big and and that. I'm just thinking today that might you wake up and go. What a drag man. What a drawback. Because i put a lot of time into undetermined for those guys. So yeah it's it's up situation right now in in town here and and i would. I would encourage this exercise if you're an ottawa. Senators fan and want wanna get back to curt schilling here in a moment. But i would encourage ottawa senator fans to do this as an exercise. Like remove the sense from the equation and remove any allegiance. You have to what i'll call team axe. Just random off the shelf major league franchise this team team. X has not played a single game in ten months. They haven't had a preseason. they haven't had exhibition games. And after ten months they get a few days to mensa boat in training camp to decide on their team. And then it's whammo zero to sixty right into the heart of a regular season and that regular season has now lasted all of eleven days Are you really that upset that this team doesn't have his act together right now after just eleven days taken away. The sins allegiance. And all that it's just team ex-. How can you possibly realistically expected team. In those circumstances which also by the way turned over half its roster to be any good at all in those eleven days you know. I agree with a lot of what you say steve But there's something that is interesting with this. Because i do take it easy. Okay we're playing these inordinate amount of games and the schedules crazy. Cova did You guys you got to watch for that thing all the time. Three games in four nights. The you know the travel the all canadian division is is this thing gonna work or not With a lot of teams Vancouver montreal right. There's there's a ton more travel than if you're winnipeg for example right you're in the middle here you can zip two hours either way So i think everyone does have to take it easy. What i think might happen is we're watching that winnipeg game healers and and wheeler went down in kinda sorta innocent little body checking you know and i began to think what may happen out of. This doesn't happen all the time is the incidents of injury From from plan so many freaking games in such a short time. I remember seeing players after game..

"Yeah it's been a while. No i didn't realize either. A after starting to read a bunch of stuff on him that he he didn't go away like he retired. Whatever it was seventy one or seventy two. They've started in fifty nine but he he also was an interim coach. A couple of times head coach stayed involves scouting doing so. I think some front office stuff with a couple of teams anyway. The the guy loves the game he absolutely loved the game any loved everything about it and he never complained ever about anything that i can can see and i. I really liked that. What a way to go. That's how you want to go out and it's ironic that a you know that this great athlete who i've really taken to over the last three or four days I say a little piece on hall of fame guys for the baseball hall of fame. Who will never ever now. Make it into the hall of fame And it's not the way you wanna go out men. What because i was reading it today. I think it's clements. Roger clements and barry barnes. Yeah first of all. I didn't realize if you if you don't get voted in on so many ballots. Eventually you're taking off right. Yeah and those two guys who were great athletes and you know tag with pd. That that they're done. That's the story. I read today. They will never give him the hall of fame and god. That's gotta be that's gotta be a crushing deal you know if you if you had all the stats to get in whatever. The minimum requirements are. And then. Today you wake up going. Sorry man you're gonna have to make up a story to your grandkids so yup no. I'd say it's definitely a definitely a shame. It's on them. And it's too bad because you know there when you look at barry bonds and roger clemens. I mean that's as good as it gets as far as an outfielder in a pitcher go. Clemens won a myriad of cy young awards. Barry bond to the home run record and You know if you're a fan of both guys you'd probably make the argument that if they hadn't taken pd's they still would have had hall of fame careers and that may well be true but we will never know because those guys took away that opportunity by injecting themselves by rubbing the cream on themselves and and looking for that advantage they were cheaters and as a result They're going to be remembered forever as such. They will live a life that none of us could ever dream of. In terms of the millions of dollars they earn. So i don't feel too badly.

"Compasses news radio 6 10 w TVs. Thank you, by the way for having to sign this morning. The Brandon Boxer show 7 36 John Tortorella, head coach of the Blue Jackets is with us just seconds away here. A new season of the Blue Jackets start tonight in Nashville. There's a lot going on Always your researchers discovering to new strains. Of coronavirus. One dominant in Columbus met effect. I think they're calling it the Columbus Variant. Oh, goody. Yeah, we get it named after our own city. Fantastic. Also, Columbus City schools will be reopening that to some students as of February 1st one of the things the union is asking, though, that the teachers and other employees We'll get the initial round of covert 19 vaccinations available to all employees first, which is really just a couple of weeks away, right now catching up with John Tortorella, head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets. First game tonight, We kick off a brand new season asking coach about just how he motivates his players. What's the secret sauce? Well, these guys are thoroughbreds. It's not so much Me motivating them. We don't have motivated athletes from within the room within themselves. We're gonna have problems so Uh, this type of situation such a With with the pandemic and everything going on around us. Think guys just want to try to get back playing games that are meaningful. I don't think there'll be any problem as far as motivation as far as playing as hard as you can, and it's a foundation of our team. It's the only way we're gonna have a chance to be successful. So Not me. We've just got a good group of athletes and they'll be ready to play. Coach. One of your star players do Blah signed a new deal, and then it was on. It was like days later he came out to say that basically it was it looked like he wanted to be traded. Can you share more of that? You know what? I'll let Luke speak for himself. I think that's the most important thing When Something like that comes out in the player wants out of here. I think he needs to get in front of it. I don't think anybody else needs to speak for him. Sure, responsibility is to the players speak on that. So I think that's a question for him. No problem. I can respect that Coach. It is a business and I think sometimes we fall in love with players and coaches and We want them to stay. This is where you're at it. And you've been here a while. But as a coach, is it a business to your is sometimes if you do you get attached to players, and you hate to see anyone go Yeah, you do You do you you go through. Some of the things the good times the bad times the conflict between a coach and a player, all those things and you certainly I think later on like I have some Very good friends. Now that I coach On. It's probably 10. Years later. I think that's when you're it's basically a man to man relationship. It's a whole different type of relationship, but You know, in love. I think that's a really interesting way of putting it because you got to be really careful in the game and all sports that You can't fall in love with him because you eventually you're gonna have to change your team. You're going to try to get your team better. Andre and toe get to a situation where you kind of lost yourself aware that player is right now and maybe have to move by him. You gotta be really careful there, Coach The season obviously is shortened. Good bad. How do you feel about that with the NHL season? Yeah, Like I told the team, right. The first thing we talked about in her opening camp meeting is it is what it is. We have a situation in front of us, and I always I just stack it up against the real life stuff going on as far as this worldwide pandemic. We're able to play. The league has done a great job and trying to get us organized to be safe. Whatever comes our way, and it's gonna be different The other day, we had a fit. You know, 17 players couldn't practice because of just some some current concerns with Colvin. And I think that's gonna happen. I think it's gonna be a crazy year that way. S so whatever's thrown at us, we accept it. We're very fortunate. To be doing the things we're doing that we love, where other people just struggling just to keep themselves in their family together with this John, Do you feel like with the covert situation? The Blue Jackets, the NHL. It seemed like they did a pretty tremendous job last fall as far as the bubble goes, and that's probably going to continue. Are they doing the very best job? They can. Do You see any any loopholes? The bubble last year in the playoff. It was it was such a contained area. I thought the league every it was junk. It was done so well. This is different here now. Because you're you're not in a bubble. You're gonna be going to different cities. You gonna be flying on a plane You're gonna have to trust other people are taking care of themselves and being safe so it doesn't spread. This is a whole different situation. And as you've seen in just the first week, I think five or six teams have they had to shut down their practice facility just because of the current concern of Of tracing and a couple players having a couple of staff members having it and trying to be real careful. I think the league has done a great job to prepare for this with the protocol. They're going to be some hiccups here. You know, you watch the football season on and some of things that going on there and there'll be some hick ups. We just got to respect the protocol and try to keep teaching each and every one of us safe. John before I let you go. I haven't had the pleasure to meet you in person yet, But I've talked to many who have either worked with you or no. You little bit. I's it true. I'm also an animal lover. I know you're an animal lover. They would some would say that you love animals more than people. Is that true? Well, I think I'd rather be with animals more than people and I make no bones about that. My wife and I have very deeply involved. Uh, in animal welfare and in the foundation. In fact, I'm standing out here. I just I just got through cleaning out my burn with the three horses. I got a couple of dogs waiting to be walked and I love it. Ah, my family. Uh, we just We want to try to help in that area. We've just fallen, fallen in love with the adopting Of dogs and horses, and there need to be around there. They're very, very important things in our life. All right. What a great conversation with John Tortorella head coach. The Blue Jackets Go jackets first game tonight in Nashville. By the way, the Blue Jackets have filed an application with the Ohio Department of Health to bring fans back if it's anything like what they did with Rocket mortgage field house with the calves in Cleveland. It would mean that if it gets approved it be 10% cap should be just a little under 2000 fans per game. Meanwhile, U S. Is sworn in next week. And while this is going on yesterday, I was never a fan of CNN any anyway. But I do go to CNN just to see what they're saying versus some of the other networks because I'm all about being fair and balanced. That's a rip off Fox, but or what Their slogan used to be. But CNN's Jake Tapper never really been a fan anyway. Yesterday on CNN, Of course, they're talking about the impeachment process. He's getting a lot of backlash today. Because of questioning the patriotism of representative Brian Mast of Florida, who, by the way, is an Army veteran at a double amputee who is opposing President Trump Trump's impeachment reams of evidence that we have. There's one other thing I want to share with Just one other thing, Just that's relevant. What you're saying right now is relevant because Congressman Brian Mast, a Republican from Florida, Who lost his legs by the way fighting for democracy abroad, Although I don't know what is I don't know about his commitment to it here in the United States, he said. Did anybody say that? Yes, we heard It's amazing. I'm dumbfounded that anyone has the end Acid E to say something like that. Apparently, CNN's Jake Tapper has forgotten about who like, for example, Brian Mast. Fought his way for freedom for Jake. To allow him to say something like that.
