"You Andre vasilevskiy made 36 of 37 saves In game two got his fourth straight win He's 6 and three this postseason He's allowed one or fewer goals for the 26th time in his playoff career in 85 starts He's been incredible no doubt about it So is Victor hedman He's standing by right now with our lightning reporter and broadcaster Gabby Shirley Let's go to them I'm letting radio Victor speaking of being here at home how thrilled are you to be able to sleep in your own bed and play in front of your home fans No it's obviously a great great feeling and two days to kind of relax and get their body right in my mind started right back to back So but one step at a time we're excited about this afternoon and playing in front of our fence As the home team you will have the last change that proved to be really effective in the series against the Toronto Maple Leafs Do you think that will be effective in this series too even without breaking point Yeah we sure hope so Obviously you can get the matchups a little bit easier You don't have to change it on the fly So that's the one thing that's apart from the fence is the advantage of having a home ice So we're excited about that but at the end of the day it's going to take the whole team To get this done today So we don't really focus too much on the matchup so obviously Some certain guys against some of the top players but at the end of the day it comes down to us as a team and what we do collectively Your team has been rolling on special teams The PK specifically has been 11 for 11 over the past four games two of those against the Panthers We know the Panthers have been struggling on the power play but how do you plan to continue to eliminate them when they have the man advantage Yeah I would stay out of the box That's the bottom line They have all the skill in the world They're a great team And you're going to just throw slumps like this It's obviously tough but we can't give them the opportunities to break that So we'll move our feet and try and take us a few penalties as we can but want to call upon our PK has been phenomenal So we look to continue that if we get in that position Thank you so much And good luck in this game All right that's Gabby Shirley Down in the locker room with Victor hedman glad we were able to get that and no doubt the lightning special teams huge difference so far through two games in this series John Cooper's up next we'll hear from the landing head coach about the lightning and Panthers coming up in about ten minutes.

"The crack and have hired their first head coach? 52 year old Dave Hextall spent three plus years as Phillies head coach and most recently was an assistant for a young Toronto Maple Leafs team. Something crack and GM Ron Francis finds attractive. He's worked the last couple years in Toronto with a very young team and been a big part of, you know, they're sort of growth and progression towards having more and more success, so We think that all bodes well for him in this situation. "Riley on the podcasts. How many bettors loaded up on the two Canadian teams most disappointed and that's the Toronto. Maple leaves the Edmonton oilers in the first round the qualifying round thinking that they were shoo-ins if not to make a run this year to at least qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs Wall for sure. One of our biggest risks of the entire season was on the oilers to win the Stanley Cup because. They had some pretty favorable odds would have been like anywhere from twenty to thirty two from twenty to thirty two, one at different points of the year, and then of course, got a little short as we got closer to the playoffs and then actually Edmonton and Winnipeg were our two biggest risks when it came to betting on the series in the qualification rounds and You know it was great. For us from a profit perspective but you know to see those teams go out into those markets not be involved along with your New York Rangers and your Tronto Maple leafs knock it in, and I'm sure you guys talked about this. But you know everyone likes to on the lease I only say betting against the leafs is smart because so many people like to on them that. Inflates the price and gives you better off maybe than you deserve on the other team. So you know some people did okay betty non Columbus there in the first round but I mean that was a heck of a series and you know we saw a lot of action both ways and again as usual lease fans got their hearts crushed in some of them have their wallets as well. Now, how many how many people would you say just on a general bet with their hearts at our heads you know I think it's more with your heart, a of the time which is not the smart way to do it by the way. If I was writing a book or giving tips You kinda got to watch it without a logo. I used to be You Know Toronto Maple leafs fan growing up now people ask me watching might cheer for an is they had share for the team gets me paid so That's using your. Guy Come in and put like five hundred on the Canadians to win the eastern conference and other five hundred on them to win the Stanley Cup and if you won that, he would have been up eighty or a hundred grand but I mean. I think cool. That's going to be up two thousand dollars because you know that's betty with your heart. They're I. Mean Listen to the full marks to Montreal, forgetting pass Pittsburgh in round one But I also I was asked this on abandoned podcast last night you know if Montreal you should be doing better than the are guys early twenty, four, th out of thirty one no, they shouldn't. I thought fits dropped the ball a little bit You can't take anything away from carry price and how much you all places team but eventually from an audience perspective, which is the business I'm in, they're GONNA lose up. Yeah. All right. We'll let you go into this. Thing, how'd you get into this Chris? What was your passion? What would your like a I love this? I WANNA. I. WanNa get in. It's a really funny story because We talked about the broadcast angle and as both you guys know there's not a lot of money in community TV right? So I was working in community TV in Halifax and also the company odd shark who is know a content producer when it comes to sports betting, their offices and studios are in Halifax so they Were looking for presenters and basically content creators writer. So some guys that I knew it from the TV station had moved on to the studios which paid better. Basically all was and when they were looking for a non here a contact guy, they reached out to me and it was a race. So I always liked sports I always like betting but I actually for blackjack guy and playing cards and. It actually is crazy because I coached major midget hockey back east and I played always a sports guy. But I never translated my knowledge to to bend him a as you guys know you can watch a game and ninety nine times out of one hundred. You can predict what's going to happen See how games gone. Yeah. Sometimes it changes but you know guys who knows sports and no it well, it's it's I think the best form of of gambling entertainment. So that's what I did I started there and You know the cool thing came along after I actually moved to southern. Ontario. It all kind of happened really fast and next thing I knew I was working for the TV station in Allison and doing the job. So as one of those things, you never know where it's going to take you and here I am. Well well done and we'll leave you this. I mean give us your biggest surprises a what's what's cool off guard the most today in the playoffs. I think maybe the slow start by the Saint Louis Blues caught our oddsmakers a little bit. I think maybe Vancouver across the board it was a little undervalued and I think what's been surprising as Philadelphia's six and one since coming to Toronto. And and they're big guys aren't really doing the damage yet. So I think. Even right now, the flyers could potentially be a decent bet to win the eastern conference or to to make a little splash finals that keep rolling the way they are those guys wake up and they continue to play solid defensively will be interesting to see. But then again are they may be just against an under match squad and that's the beauty of of the sport and betting good stuff. We'll have you back again. Thanks for doing this and thanks for being a partner with the ranger podcast. Absolutely guys thanks so much for having me on love the show love what you're doing. We're so happy to be involved. Ray You're talking about oh crazy. It is in the Ferraro Granato household right I mean there's Things..

"A? What can you take? What can you take from the loss to Columbus? What what can I mean? You can't do anything about what Kyle do is going to do and whoever that are going to bring in or move out. But what can you guys teak players from the way that it went down against Columbus? Well I mean you take the pain first of all incoming that's. Not a feeling that you WANNA relive. I mean we've had that in the past against Boston obviously two years in a row and. I mean I think we took a lot away from those series. I. Mean. Obviously this being pretty unique which is the way that it went down I think you have to take away the experience of of of playing in a bubble I mean. You know if that's what we have to do next year and that's what we have to do and we'll be more prepared. To to do so but I think that you take the experience and I think that you take As players. We, know what we have to do differently. I. Think if you look back at game on I think that there's a lot of things that as a group we would want to do differently. But I think if you look at game two games, four I mean I think that there are lots of positives to to try to take away and I think you have to look at those and I'm coming to that lots of time to do so and it's important that we do that. You mentioned the bubble Morgan. So. So Tell Ryan I and the average fan. What was the best part of the bubble and then what was the worst part being in the ball? While the best part of the bubble I don't know that's a tough one I think I guess. Plan cards and just being around the guys. I, think we all knew that was going to be the case going into it but once you're in there, you do realize how much time do you have around each other and it is an opportunity to bond I mean it's a little bit different and I mean, it can be a lot of times but I think you have to take advantage of it and I think the worst part good question. I don't know I think maybe just the exposure to the sun I think Brunette, the Fairmont, he spent a lot of time inside you're not exactly. You know out on Patios or anything like that. I think I, think you have to. Either go above and beyond to try to treat your body. I mean, just like a normal day and I think that means going outside and just kind of spending some time. With teammates out there that you wouldn't normally do but I think it's A. It's a work in progress, but I think they did a great job with it. Overall. Now you guys weren't there long enough but was there anything? Maybe. You would have learned about somebody that. Because this was more than an extended trip, like could you imagine if you would have been there for two and a half months? What you? Learned about your teammates nowhere to go. Yeah. Yeah I mean there's really nowhere to go I think. That who hates being alone and who doesn't I think that there's guys. You get back from the rink and the first thing they wanNA. Do is hang out and play cards and So I think. I don't know you got lots of time around one another and I think that's a good thing and a bad thing at times but I think you just. have an opportunity to really see who's who when it comes to. In time together for sure. All. Kidding aside I mean, when you, of course, you trade anything to be part of a beret and I were talking early in the podcasts about the teens who are going to go deep into the playoffs here and how difficult that whole experience I mean you're focused on trying to win a Stanley Cup, but you can't erase some of the limitations the restrictions everything that you have to experience. Right how difficult you think that is going to be moving forward on these guys. I think it's hard man I think that it's it's it's odd because you have to make time to. To keep in touch with I, mean your loved ones I mean. We're not really used to that And I think you have to make time to. To. Prioritize your. Your personal life a little bit, and it's just it's just a lot different and I think that's What players were experiencing I think that when people ask us if there will be an asterix if a team wins it and I really don't think so I think it's going to be a lot harder than than playoffs in the past because it bubble because of I mean all the time off I think that there is some. Extremely hard hurdles that that players have to get over and I mean. It's it's. I mean, it's a I. Think we in. The weeks and I mean like I don't know it's tough. All right buddy while we know the year ready to get back to work on and I know the Toronto Maple leafs fans are looking forward to seeing you back onto the ice. Oh, thanks for doing this and enjoy whatever downtime you can Morgan. All right. Guys. Thanks a lot I appreciate. You know even though Morgan Riley Ray hasn't been around the National Hockey League forever, you really do get that sense of maturity and honesty from them. I mean he's not carve anybody pulling any punches nor is he looking for excuses on why the Toronto Maple leafs didn't get through the qualifying round and lost the Columbus Blue Jackets but that doesn't camp down is is eagerness in his passion for getting back onto the ice and proving that this team can in fact. Yeah, there's a real communist to Morgan.

"Going to check in with Chris from cool that and here what's happening with wagering as the NFL NHL Playoffs of course, continue to heat up. Every week on the PODCAST, we ask you to send your questions via email or our social media channels to ask Ray dregs anything this week we've got. All probably ten or so really good ones. We're not going to get to ten I. Apologize We'll try and get to a few more next week but we're GONNA start with a question from terence. Terence's wondering what's your taking the officiating so far? He said it still feels like some teams, the Bruins amongst them get the benefit of the doubt on non calls more than many other clubs and Tarit says, we've seen one power play can flip the momentum in a series is the officiating any different this post season than last postseason or fifteen years ago NOPE everybody I mean, yeah, I think it's different I. Think it's better the two guys really. After manage the game differently than one guy did when they were refereeing solo however, people will complain about somebody else get the breaks, the calls, the favor all the time it will go on until the end of time. There, there are certain calls that aren't made that I would like to see made way more frequently but I think they're not made for everybody I. Yeah I, don't i. I do not by an have not ever bought the favoring team by an official. It's not a bad refereeing its kids Steve. Are CR Mulligan rape, how is it fair for the teams that didn't make the qualifying round to not play a game for seven to eight months won't this be a real competitive disadvantage long-term? I think it will be an I think that's something the NHL will we'll have to address as they come closer to one ever training camp might be. maybe there's an expanded schedule for those seven teams if they want to play them. That you know that you're gonNA play a few more games. Look at yes. The answer's yes it but this is the kind of the attitude I`ve Learned to take drake's is during this pandemic. Yes it's not fair. Yes. It's not right but. What are you GonNa do like the yet just go start another bubble in say to. Detroit Ottawa on San Jose gets your guys together. Let's go play now like it just doesn't work socks for them but. I think they'll have to look at a way of getting those guys more active. than. Maybe the other teams will need when they get the training camp. Question from Steve Rate who is your biggest surprise team either good or bad at this point postseason I'M GONNA say Columbus Okay. I'm. Really impressed. I mean. They don't have enough. They don't score enough. They don't. You know if you look at the roster like you have very good players in a couple of great players. But. Man They're they're giving. Tampa all they can give them again. Tampa. Can't wait for these guys to go away like as we're taping this drake's just as an example. Columbus down three games to one. In the series up there tied to two after the second period. Dave Shot Tampa thirty two thirteen. Like these guys do not ever ever ever go away. I'm really really impressed with. See I'm wondering about Washington and they stave off. Disappointment and I, I'm not trying to take anything away from the New York Islanders I mean they're incredibly well coached by buried Trots, and there're lots of pieces of the New York islanders that I like and. Really that's what it takes to win. The Stanley Cup is when the of the ingredients of the recipe come together and we'll vol you. You've got a a Stanley Cup recipe So no disrespect to the New York islanders I just believed that the capitals were going be hungrier than what we've seen but again, we're taping us in the capital's trail three games to one in the series in a big night in game four for. Skin. So will see where they go from here. So that task grand rigs anything we'll continue to answer your questions on a week. By week basis, you'll find us on our social media's twitter instagram at Ray. Please, join now raindrops talkie podcast by Toronto Maple leafs defensemen Morgan Riley. Morgan. Obviously, you'd be rather you'd rather be doing this podcast looking at round two from a maple leafs perspective and analyzing your next opponent. But you know the calendar makes this year's end the season much different but does the outcome feel the same based on the fact that you're not involved? Yeah I think so I think that the The outcome of our playoff series, Columbus's obviously not what we wanted and I think just given to. The unique circumstance of of everything that's going on in how the offs are unfolding it feels different for sure I think there's no arguing that but in terms of. That pain of. Losing a playoff series. You know having a run come to an end is always going to be there and I think it's just a different just because the time inc... That we're in mid. August. Right now there's hockey going on in the background right now just. Unusual feeling and I think that we're all experiencing change and I think that. It's just a matter of how you deal with it. I think that the way that the playoff. And for us was. As bad as any year in the past and. So the the pain of losing is is a big difference is because of the change of Of, how it went down but I mean, it's not a good feeling to have. Pretty complicated here. Morgan I'm you gotta go back at it seems forever ago till You guys made a coaching change and then you want from Mike Babcock Sheldon Keefe. How did all that play out? In the course of the year in the in the growth of the team and getting to a place where you think you can win your play in round and you don't. Yeah I mean I think.

"And like you can now. So we get out there once a year and you'd come on. Danny's good. I got to play with them at the eighty nine World Cup world championships in Sweden. And so he was never a great skater, but he was so smart and because he was so smart, he didn't have to skate all over the place. He always seemed to have the `Paki. Always made a great play. He made the people around him better and That's as a player but. Oldest. recollection were reading. Last Day. Since Dale Pass is about what a person he was. And a remember on that team John Ferguson who was the general manager in Winnipeg was one of the managers on world championship teams. And Dale was there with a couple of other Winnipeg jets? Until they went to a travel agency in Stockholm to book a trip. Post. post-world tournament. And it turns out the guy that was running the travel agency was a former Winnipeg jet draft pick. It's all those guys they rode Furby Furby. We found your draft pick he's run at a travel agency. They were. And it was so funny because you come together you don't know anybody on these teams from other teams and he was just such a nice person and look I'm going to be fifty six on Sunday and I see somebody like l. pass away at fifty seven and man it's sobering. It's so sad. We all connect. However, we do most of what's through our hockey. but he's a husband and a father and a feel so badly for. For the Howard Chuck Family just wish wish my best absolutely you know in in reminiscing with great housing in the Winnipeg, jets on Tuesday Zinger made a comment of Dale Howard Chuck and said he was a low maintenance superstar and that was Dale Howard Chuck to a t and you could really feel that you're right off ice even talking briefly with Dale be at here on the podcast store I came across a number of occasions in minor hockey rinks. He was head coaching the buried colts and scouting some up and coming players he just loved the sport I love being in the ring he love talking to people about horses about hockey about family. Even though we use it as Cliche when people pass. It was a great man in in every sense and. Clear. Shea and at fifty seven on national treasure lost to the despicable disease of cancer. So you you you said, well, right now our best to the Howard. Chuck family and. Is Legacy will will never leave us. I'm sure they NHL. Will do something and obviously the the Winnipeg jets have something nice plan and they're going to construct a statue outside empty. I thought the jet sort interrupt I thought. In, communicating that today before he passed I don I did something about that struck me as right. Like so many things get done after somebody passes away. He he must have known. How people felt about him no question no go I think the judge should be commended for that. Yeah. Agreed and one final note many of us saw the Hashtag Howard trucks Howard trump strong. That lives on. So there'll be lots moving forward and honor and in memory of Dale. Howard Chuck. Array. Tim's many sticks is a big deal in by Tim's I mean Tim Hortons right? We've been kind of. "Eight of the rain rates Hockey Fahd cast looking forward to conversation with Morgan Riley of the Toronto Maple leafs obviously still just pointed to the fact that the Toronto Maple leafs and not in the Sannikov. So we'll get his thoughts on what life was like inside the bubble in Toronto, and the Toronto Maple leaves should look like moving forward. We've got ask Ray and rigs anything not so popular segment very creative queries coming our waste will check into that segment a little bit later in the podcast. Thanks again to Scott Driscoll. In, episode thirty seven, you know pulled the curtain back what things are like as a longtime. NHL Linesmen. What it was like to work alongside Ray Ferraro as a little ball of hate on the ice. All kinds out with Scott. Driscoll right I'm I remember you suggested bringing Scotty on long like I mean several months ago right? But yeah and. Pull disclosure. This isn't a deep secret here but because he was employed by the National Hockey League, he has to seek. Approval from the I tell her office to do anything public. It's no different for West MacAulay or any act of NHL Fisher. So he didn't get approval back in the day six months ago, whatever was and You got approval to join us. So that was a fun discussion, and since then you've probably been getting a number of tax from Scott Gerski while right. So into the World War Two history and knows that you of a strong and Chris and unkind nibbling at the edges but. He's got some fun things planned I'm looking forward to is you can see his passion away dregs. Yeah. The passionate he had when he officiated now that. He to be a tour guide at some point through through Normandy in the Second World War sites and. Coach she's GonNa. I mean, he's an interesting guy and he's a fun guy you can see. The the drudgery of the road. Would be a lot more fun with Scott Driscoll. Those guys never have a home game. I, assume that he was a a little bit of both a light to to a lot of trouble ray because a number of our podcast listeners are also viewers right? We've got the rain rigs. Youtube Channel. There's a couple of things that I've noticed in the last few minutes here as we've logged into episode thirty eight. One. You've got your buds what's going on like Aa. You've abandoned the old wire system you like it while I really liked them Got Them for Father's Day course we started to tape and. then. You guys while Aaron are attack who puts this altogether didn't like the sound of my dangling headphone so I'm like, Hey, you know get new headphones and because I'm such a techie. Cami said, you know you can use your Airbud or that and I was like, Oh, I didn't know that I didn't even know how to up to the. So they're hooked up I like. Look everybody around me has them I. Don't have them yet but I I tell you like as I'm watching you and I know if I did it, I'd get throwed punched but I just WanNa reach in inflict him reindeer ears that's eight. That is it. So you it is. So do you know I had a guy yesterday asking me. About you in a podcast and he's like, how come like is he a really serious guy? I'm like drager. Belief serious person I'd unless he's Working Ben, he's a child. And I think that was a pretty fair description. Okay. I got it and the other thing that I've absurb. What are you eating like trail mix like what's going on? I got a Ziv are okay and it was. I was hungry I've been up for four hours and I haven't eaten yet and I'm like I need to eat something. So I just reached into the drawer. Pulled out, pulled out whatever I saw that was it is a Cami approved. Borderline. Borderline. Yeah. It's improved for the kids not for me I. Think She's worried about me you. My birthday is coming up this week and I think she's worried about me. Agent getting shorter and wider. Tough week for the hockey. World. Ray. And we're having some fun here off the top and and as a introduced the next topic. I'm thinking in remembering of the meeting times that I saw Dale Howard chuck with a smile on his face and he was kind enough to join us on rigs. And months ago, and it was just fun to catch up with Dale then. Talk Hockey on an and the fact that you know in the moment he was in the battle with cancer but part of what was motivating them and keeping him going was the outpouring of support from not only the hockey community but but just around the world and people going through a similar process that he was happy to help you now fought on Dale Howard check from you because no different than Dave Poulin who I thought was terrific in the sportscenter hit that we did on Tuesday talk about the passing of Dale Howard Chuck and to paraphrase a comment that pool used which really stuck with me was Dale, our chuck was an underrated hall of Famer. You've played against Doc. fiercely competitive is so many. Players are and were, but I as a player let stands out about Dale Howard Chuck is as you reflect. I would compare him a little bit different style, but in a lot of ways to Ron Francis that when people talk the great offensive players of our generation those guys, Kinda. Get forgot. And yet you look at their numbers in there I think part of it was because neither of them had a look at me personality they both played in smaller markets. So maybe they didn't get the notoriety that they should but I'll tell you drake's we would go and play a Western swing and you'd play in Vancouver and Edmonton Calgary and Winnipeg. And the game and Vancouver would go however would go the oilers would toy around with you let you stick around and then beat you the flames would beat the hell out of you, and then you go into Winnipeg and we always would come out of their Mandel Howard. Chuck. Is Good like we would never because there were no highlight or the highlights, but you couldn't watch games.

How Zamboni Driver Helped Carolina Hurricanes Win Big Game

"We can't begin the show without talking about the biggest story to hit hockey since what out. Foster Scott Foster. Probably the Glorious Song I don't know so. What was the last hockey story to get on the today? Show Leyla Anderson. Probably and you know what's interesting about it to me. I mentioned Scott Foster. Is that happened two years ago and one of the more interesting things the way he handled in the blackhawks handle is he got all these requests. He was asked to go on Jimmy Kimmel and the Today Show People magazine. And he turned it all down because he wanted to be about the franchise throat. Meanwhile Dave Ayers technically property of the Carolina Hurricanes Right now. We know they don't say Tom. I'm going to rename top golf. Airs Ball David Errors. Of course is the forty two year old goalie from Whitby Ontario pro previously experienced in the Allan Cup Hockey League where he played for the Norwood Vipers. For Eight Games He was the is the Zamboni Goal Zamboni driver for the Toronto Police H. L. Affiliate the Toronto Marlies He became just the third emergency goaltender in the modern era to play in the NHL when he went out and played for the Carolina Hurricanes against the Toronto Maple leafs on Saturday evening the marlies Zamboni driver playing for the enemy and You know he beat the leafs as everybody knows but are you surprised that the like the hurricanes if there was any team in the league where I was like. This is a team that could play that. Well in front of Amateur goaltender like maybe Dallas would be the number one. Maybe the islanders would be just by the systems they play but Carolina basically saying you. Don't get the PUCK ANYMORE TO THE TORONTO. Maple leafs was something. That was entirely predictable in this. In this scenario my opinion I don't think the hurricanes got enough credit for this guy getting the win one hundred even like after the Game Rod. Rod brindamour comes into the locker room. Talk about how the team played in front of that guy for that guy. Four David eyres eight. Which is an incredible thing. And you know what I was just talking about. Who Remembering when his team had a goalie. That didn't show up. She showed up late so they they had to play six on five. Like we couldn't score a goal on the empty night. Even I mean it's amazing. How the mind works how. The effort level works in that Carolina Hurricanes team. You can't say enough about. I Mean David. Eyres only had eight eight eight saves on ten shots. I mean you know you put a lot of guys in the net with a a modicum of of skill In the position and have that performance in front of them. They're going to have some success so all the credit to him for stepping in there and getting in front of pox but man that I mean Jake Gardner was just laying out out there. I mean it was unbelievable to watch imagine if Michael Hutchinson head that Michael Hutchinson now property of the Colorado Avalanche. Because of course we're going to talk about the trade deadline. But you know I think the reason why this story resonates with so many people is that in the little child and all of us. It's the dream of a fairytale at forty two years old. He's the second oldest player ever to make his. Nhl Debut. And I guess just to put a tie on this as we get into the trade deadline talk. Think BACK TO MEETING SCOTT. Foster one year after his big day where he was the accountant. Ben Saved what was it? Fourteen minutes of scoreless hockey for the Chicago Blackhawks against the then mighty would peg jets and you know he didn't do any interviews for a year and he said at one point. I called it the incident and I had to tell myself just because you take advantage of an opportunity doesn't mean you can enjoy it so I'm just glad that day there is enjoying and enduring with all of us because we all seem to be enjoying it

How does hockey reckon with an abusive power structure?

"By the time you finish listening to this podcast. It's likely there will be more stories out there about abusive hockey coaches right now as we are recording this and as you're listening to it. The sport is facing a reckoning. It began with the toppling of one of the biggest domino's in the game. Mike Babcock out as coach of the Toronto Maple leafs tonight. Every mounting losses position became more and more tenuous and tonight his reign lean over. leafs nation is over. Mike Babcock was fired by the Toronto. Maple leafs for the same reason. Tons of hockey coaches have been fired before him. His team was underachieving. He might have been a bigger name than those other coaches but still not unusual then. The story started during the two thousand sixteen seventeen season. Mitch Moore had a private meeting with Mike Babcock and the coach asked then rookie to list the players on the team from Best Work Catholic to worst martyr complied not realizing that that talk within show his list to some of the players ranked the lowest and not long after that it became clear. The stories weren't just about Mike Babcock. Major allegations made against Calgary flames head coach. Bill Peters a former. NHL Her Chemo Lou. who spend spend some time with the flames in the early part of this decade calling for his alleged use of racial slurs while they were both part of the Chicago Blackhawks Organization now players ears are saying publicly things that used to be kept behind closed doors at all cost and the NHL in almost every league below it is realizing that it has a problem problem or more accurately that it has had a problem for quite some time? Now the question is what happens next. What did they do about it? What changes changes in the leafs? They've been playing a lot better since they fired the guy who humiliated one of their best players who thought I'm Jordan Heath Rawlings. This is the big story. Jeff Blair is a senior writer at sports net dot CA. He is the CO host of writer's block on Sports Net. Five ninety fan every day. He has covered a lot of dressing rooms ends and locker rooms throughout his career. Hey Jeff how you doing short. I'm doing well you've You've covered a lot of dressing rooms and locker rooms over the years I was. I was thinking about this the other day when the stuff happened with the Chemo. Lou and Bill Peters out of thinking to myself. I ever seen a locker room. I thought something nothing really poisonous and happen. And I think because unbalanced I spent more time around baseball clubhouses than anything else and initially when I started reporting Winnipeg CFL locker rooms is kind of a little different than hockey. I mean baseball. There have been African American players. There've there've been Latino players in baseball has its issues but it's nothing to go on a clubhouse now and see that the white players are in the minority I mean that's just the way it is and the NFL. When I covered it's the same thing and I don't remember any relationship with a manager or coach or a team I thought was particularly toxic? I mean they're examples of tone deafness. But what I think happens more often than not in a lot of these situations is just the manager coach. Whatever you WANNA call it becomes tone-deaf two things? Well why don't you start then by explaining how we got here where it started with Mike. Babcock in the leafs. Yeah there's a couple of things first of all. I'm a little concerned that people are sort word of mixing. Mike Babcock not you but people in general people were kind of going all Mike Babcock and then Bill Peters. Because here's the thing Mike Babcock seems to have tried cried some Caveman Sports Psychology on Mitch. Martyr So tell us about that. Mitch Monitor the first year. The story is now now that everybody's confirmed Mike. Babcock wanted him to work harder. So Mike Babcock called them into his office and said list your teammates in terms of hardest working to least hardworking. And tell me where you'd put Yourself Yourself Mitch. Marna with coach wants to do this so he goes ahead and does that and Somehow and I I don't know when it came out but somehow Mike Babcock doc essentially went to some of the guys that were below martyring. Say Mitch thanks. She works harder than you. You know this guy's dog in it right now and he thinks that works harder than you and the best line out of the Whole Story and God love Mitch. Martin but the best line of the whole story's Mitch Marnie just kind of shrugging and going nobody took it seriously right. You know it's like that's just that's just babs so I mean their stories. You know you can go. God stories about would coaches used to do for motivating players or trying to catch players airs. I Never Scotty Bowman Scotty. Bowman got tired of his team's missing curfew. So Scotty Bowman would go down. And I can't remember which city this went down to the front desk of the hotel and I think curfew was midnight. Went Down to the front desk of the Hotel at eleven thirty gave a stick to the dorm and said do me a favor when the guys come in get them to sign the stick and we'll we're going to auction off to charity so the next day Scott he goes into the locker eight. These are all the guys that showed up after midnight. Their names are on the stick so I mean stuff like that is you know. That's all part of an old school. Coaching you mentality. Whatever you think of it? Yeah it's and I mean at the heart of the the coach player relationship and this and this is why we'll talk specifically about. Bill Peterson Chemo. Lucas IT'S A. It's a point I think people are missing. I mean at the heart of a coach player relationship. It's a power relationship. I'm the coach. I control the most important part of your career. I control your time I control. How many starts you're gonNA make I control? Will how many at bats you're going to get I control if you're going to be coming in the ninth inning. I control if you're going to start back to back games like Then I control. You're earning power. This is sort of at the route. That's the traditional relations traditional relationship. Is that changing it is in the NHL. I find this fascinating because the four major sports in North America all right now if you look at sort of the players relationship to to power in the game the NBA players leak. It just is players are getting lots of money They make a a lot of money from shoe deals so they're comfortable financially outside of what they're earning contract like Shaquille O'Neal didn't spend any money he made playing basketball. He invested all all he lived off. His shoe deals coaches have no power over anybody in the NBA the NFL's you know you're disposable piece of meat. There's no such thing as guaranteed contract. Baseball's always had a very very strong players association. It's Kinda splintered now and I think we're kind of in an every man for himself air but what's happened in hockey is there has been an an influx of really talented really young players and because of the way the NHL 's collective bargaining agreement is setup. You Essentially Ashley. Now have a bunch of guys who were twenty two twenty three or twenty four making eight million dollars a year under contract for five six or seven years and that's the biggest difference to me. Is that players always used to make more than the coach and this is specifically the NHL players always used to make more than the coach. But they've got more term So if you're Mike Babcock and you've got three years left on your contract you've got Mitch Monitor. He's got six years left. He's making ten and a half million dollars a year. How do you? How do you motivate that? How do you manage them? It would take us. Ice Type. Doesn't matter to him take two minutes ice time away from me. I'm getting ten million dollars a year and by the way I got a job here for years down the road and you say that so hockey ocoee more than any other sport I think is is going through. This and hockey is going to half the data and and and the coaches are going to have to. The players aren't going to have to adapt. The coaches are going to have to debt. And this this gets the Bill Peter Situation and and why I think this is particularly vile you know first of all. I mean there's no statute of limitations and racism so I've heard people will make the case. Well he said this ten years ago three organizations ago he wasn't even with the flames. You have somebody claiming that he. He used the N.. Word that he used a racial epithet. You have that player's teammates backing you up. You have subsequent you have players coming out. Who played for Bill? Peterson Peterson Carolina. Saying hey he physically abused me. You have players coming out and saying yeah not only did he. Physically abused Rod brindamour. Not only did he did. He physically abused guys. But you've got player saying oh by the way we spoke. The Ron Francis who was general manager the team at the time and he didn't do anything wrong. There was something but the Akeem loose. The situation is really. I find it really bothersome. Because what was he supposed to do. You know these guys are playing in the American Hockey League They're not making a lot of money. Bill Peters when he was coaching that team the Rockford ice hawks. He held the future in his hands. so if you're a guy like a chemo Lou and you're trying to establish yourself or you're trying to get your career going going to your general manager and writing out your head. Coaches racist is probably not not a good career. Move and I think more than anything else. What this says is that at that time? Ten years ago that organization Chicago Blackhawks. There wasn't a structure in place. I mean I'm not gonNA say that guys don't yell things at each other in the locker room or on the ice and we we know they do. We know that racial epithets unfortunately are still a part of the sort of the on Ice Onfield Dialogue and sports. I don't think this happens now though like if we were rewinding this Chemo Lou had been Ah. I don't think that happens. 'cause he reports to somebody or he goes on social media then and it's taken care of but it bothers me that people are saying that some people are saying well you know ten years ago and nobody else stood up. It's people have to understand Dan that again. This gets to that that power relationship between the player and the coach. There's no way the player could you know what are you GonNa do. You're going to sacrifice your long term financial future because of this. I mean I'm not. I'm not saying that means. Bill Peters is right but hockey I think more than any other more than any other sport just by the the nature of how players are developed. Kids leave home. Kids go to town cities. They're billeted with people dependent on the structure. They are dependent on on the power structure there absolutely dependent on the power structure. And I think maybe that's what has created this culture around hockey the the NHL is really really trying. I think to find a way and I mean the NHL in general teams coaches are trying to find a way to deal with this the new age the players the the ultimate lesson the lesson from hopefully for this whole thing with Bill Peters is that there has to be every organization has to look at itself often say do we have the structures in

Mike Florio on NBC sports radio. the ones that isn't a pro football talk live NBC sports radio NBCSN hello to our friends in the UK added Ireland were enjoying the program on sky sports and here we are Chris the bridge day between week three and week four of the two thousand nineteen NFL season and that we have plenty going on in the NFL as we get ready for. what I give a call at the quarter pole but it's really not the quarter pole before Paul means you've got a quarter mile last but we're gonna you're gonna hear I guarantee you over the next four or five days people talking about the NFL at the quarter pole well get ready yeah yeah yeah you're right that that it's common within the NFL locker rooms in organizations that's how a lot of teams break it down you know this season is four quarters itself and you know sometimes it's a good way were coaching staffs just break it down that way to keep guys motivated for a short period of time let's win this quarter right you know and then all the sudden you win three and a four quarters are four out of four quarters and you got a great record to go to the playoffs so certainly something I saw Jon Gruden do many times and I was planned their Tampa. yeah and I've heard that time again over the years it's a good point that you do break it down those component parts just to keep the guys focused out four games of the time first for second for third for for for you put it all together and you hope the end up with more wins than you have losses now they're playing teams out there they're gonna have more losses than they have winds of what you need to know this morning starts in Washington where the losses are at three the winds are at zero the first round quarter back to Wayne Haskins is on the sidelines and Jay Gruden is still not ready to let Haskins play Jay Gruden who said after the loss to the bears on Monday night that he's not considering a change in case can the White Haskins he was asked by reporters on it Tuesday the very simple question why not let Twain Haskin start here is what Jay Gruden had to say. well we're going to regain her thirteen games left in the season parole at all we feel not lost it's not it's not over I know everybody wants to say the word and others use or go and play Askins but we feel confident we can turn this thing around you know so I'm out here practice everyday were under pressure everyday valuation everybody if we feel like doing gives the best chance to win and I and I coming game will definitely put away in an arc which I guess call when he gets healthy can be cold right now we feel like it's a gated keen on our moved for him this week. all this is the guy stern the Gatorade in the background to thank you for including amazing discounts thing anyway look if during Haskins after all of the off season program Chris training camp pre season. this is in the regular season if Haskins isn't able to perform better in case Keenum now. wasn't that a mistake to take Twain Haskins have you failed to develop joint Haskins shouldn't he be better than case Keenum by now not necessarily I don't think that I don't look at it that way I mean I think listen we all see that his high and talent you know his ceiling is greater than case Keenum but to say that he's better than case Keenum right now in a real NFL game I don't know about that you know he might be able to do a few things in that game where we go wow that was impressive and I like the future of weight Haskins and everything but I think he would do a few head scratching things just like you did in the pre season where we would go Dan he's a rookie that's right you know that let's not let's not like put together him and Daniel Jones together Daniel Jones was the MVP of pre season football and I think one out there on a daily basis and show the giants organization and the players and everybody like Hey look I'm good I'm actually better than the lie manning and that's why they were able to make the switch I think probably people watch and see glimmers of all doing Haskins a special but I think on a day to day basis case Keenum was a a veteran is a little more talent than people realize that hasn't played bad this year until the other night and they still had a chance until you did is dumb fourth and one over the pile you know reach out for the first down. I think the Jay Gruden. feels the urgency to try to win some downpours save his job right and that's clouding his judgment here that if you had a coach who had just been hired this year if Kliff Kingsbury been hired in Washington right he'd be playing Twain Haskins right now because you don't feel that same mandate to save your **** to try to win games not the case Kim is going to help him win many games now who knows maybe they go steal this one against the giants on Sunday and then one in three looks a lot better than and three and maybe get lucky again in your two and three and you are back in the conversation but I I think and this is VOA news gets back to big cats quote about Washington dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things it's the height of dysfunction to have a coaching staff who really isn't on the same page with your effort to develop a young quarterback because it's in the long term best interest of the organization for this guy to get to his ceiling as soon as possible which means get him on the field Chris well yeah it doesn't always mean that you know I mean we just saw Patrick my home sit out a year and then came back and reach all the. in front of him with it a Andy Reid today to read knew it was going to be there he knew I could put him on the sideline and let him learn from Alex Smith what is way Haskins learning from case Keenum not well yes I mean he's learning to be a pro he's learning NFL football but okay yeah I I get what you're saying of course Jay Gruden is worried about winning games the reality of the situation as he does the need to win games if you want to save his but that's kind of what it seems like right now the writing's on the wall as far as that goes but you know again god twenty Hoskins is a one year college starter okay and then in the pre season even though we suggest you know we showed a highly before he did some good things don't forget he had some interceptions where were you when what the hell was that you know so I think they saw enough moments of that to know that he is not grown or ready yet to be that guy be put the same situation Daniel Jones is maybe three four weeks from now they'll feel more comfortable maybe you'll just be two or three weeks from now but they're not gonna give hope on case Keenum yet and that's why they're gonna stick with them. Hey here's the problem they're gonna get themselves into the gonna fire Jay Gruden some point during this season or after it and then the next head coach may not be a Duane Haskins guy he'll tell them when he interviews he's a Duane Haskins guy and then once he gets the job and has a five year contract it's fully guaranteed all of a sudden he's not doing Haskins guy anymore and that's going to be the challenge making sure you find someone who truly is all in which way Haskins and not just saying he's all in with Duane Askins because he's all in with the idea of being a head coach Chris well that's a that's a real possibility you're right and whoever that head coach is I would just say gosh if you're going to take that job and try to fight that fight to start off you you probably won't be able to grow around very long anyways you're gonna start a quarterback issue within the organization your first year on the job and everything like that so that would be the wrong approach from that head coach too I mean you're basically cutting off your nose to spite your face that I said that right I think I did but you did thank you for change but I again yeah that's what you got Josh McDaniels did in Denver the first order of business was a runoff Jay Cutler yeah well I think he got a little time with Jay Cutler till and then came to some some you know decisions there after spending time with them but yeah yeah okay you're right you did that he did that this is a little different because the team would be with a quarterback that's in their second year and a new coach coming in and they're not just gonna abandon ship on the quarterback going into a second year who that in the scene played a lot we're gonna see Dwayne Haskins before this year's up just Jay Gruden doesn't want to do it right yet and I don't think case Keenum has done anything to lose his job yet he was the MVP of their team the first two weeks he did a lot of really good things it was five touchdowns no interceptions it was a disaster the other night in the first three quarters of that he did some good things after that and brought him back and kind of made the game relevant but yeah I mean between Jay Gruden the way case Keenum splayed he's gonna give me a few more games and nothing. case Keenum I think you should still be the quarterback of the Vikings that occur cousins but I just think that when you have to win Haskins and you made in the fifteenth pick in the draft you should use them sooner rather than later alright cam Newton reportedly has a Lisfranc injury we know he has the foot injury the Lisfranc injury is a type of foot injury dealing well looking at the bottom of the foot it can knock you out for the full season you may need surgery for now though we'll see how long it takes cam Newton to recover from this they've got caught allowing which allows them some some patients that maybe they wouldn't otherwise have you don't have to risk an aggravation by putting cam Newton back on the field before he's ready to go and it gives him some flexibility to in making sure he's taking time to get himself right and get himself healthy as long as Colin keeps playing like he did against the cardinals he why an egg this weekend and all of a sudden you you want cam Newton back sooner rather than later but you know that this is just a team at a crossroads a quarterback at a crossroads and and I just feel like after this year a decision has to be made long term is cam Newton gonna be part of the Panthers are not well yeah Mike you you've been all over this this is where you know you're got your got sometimes is amazing I'm very impressed with that because you've you've talked about is this the end of cam Newton and you know I just feel like his body's beat up then we might have injury after injury and gosh I I swear you started saying that the guy hurt his foot and here we are going into week for and he still deal with issues it is a little concerning but you're right the big the big fact there are the big thing that's a matters is Kyle Allen played well and he's gonna buy them to it time to get can healthy he bought himself or that you know gave the team some confidence in the fact that he can orchestrate the office he's not going to play as good as he did last week that was a great phenomenal game but he's at the Houston Texans this week he just needs to play well enough to give them a chance to win in the fourth quarter and keep them in the football game and I think he's capable of doing that from what I saw on Sunday. and they've got games coming up at the Texans than at home against the Jaguars they headed to London for a rematch with the box and then they go into their bye week so we'll see if and when cam Newton is ready to play again.

I mean, New York Maple Leafs the what the New York Islanders did it over the Pittsburgh Penguins. But that was in a Stanley Cup quarterfinals and there hasn't been that's only that's the only that's the only that's the only that's the only Stanley Cup final. Yeah. All right. So there's only been one San win. And what year was that nineteen forty two okay? So all of Egas golden might have to do see it's been done in nineteen forty two which was sixty seventy shit. The longtime ago man. Yeah. I guess so. Stranger. Things have happened yet. Like, what I don't know. All right. Well, I don't think they'll be within I was holding out hope. And let's just say we've been here before, and thank you very much coach dosier for your time. I'm sure you'll be in front of the game. The chances of Belmar had to be getting a hockey team now. I don't know. And that's probably slim to none. But it's a very. Sport, high schools that have hockey hockey what's called again teams. Yeah. High school's hockey teams, they must have bread because you need a rank you need a quick -ment you feel a lot of players. Oh, yeah. It's, it's very expensive. Yeah. Football is pretty expensive. Football's expensive, but you know you're on a grass field. That's not too difficult to come up with one of those, but a skating rank forget it get skating rink light. They, they covered a basketball court with water. They do what they do. They pour water on a basketball court in the eastwards. What about in California? That's a good point. Telephone you would have to, you know, have a rink that is electrically or, as you know, however, you do that, it do it with, I think your refrigeration or something refrigeration yet. The freezing. Okay. Any guys know I have no idea. But obviously, it is something that would need some enhanced technology beyond waiting for mother nature to drop below freezing. Thanks very much. "And everybody knew going in that co I had a destination in mind that it was it was going to be Los Angeles get into that destination a couple of seconds. But everybody knew that, so from the free agent standpoint, it's not like, boy Kawais year now suddenly hated, I'm here and I'm bolting you know, they're gonna talk and they're gonna say what happened and we knew that he wanted to go, and he would say, hey, yeah, Toronto is great. Look at what we did. All right. Great. I'm interested. Now it's almost like this. Especially now idols can be an infomercial for. Hey, you know what? Look, I, I know it feels that way. I but it's just not like again I would live in Toronto. I've had era Putin. Yes. Awesome really is good. And there's nothing wrong. Everyone says, like man, I liked. I liked her a nice city, but you've noticed that. It's not on anybody's list is not any of these guys going like okay New York Brooklyn LA and Toronto. You know, it's like Charlotte's an amazing city amazing city, you can live out in the lake. You know you can play for Michael Jordan, like basketball country. You know, it's pretty slower pays traffic's not crazy. Like it is in Atlanta, whatever Atlanta's should be a destination city. Atlanta's amazing. Be be the biggest star in a country. You could be the biggest star in the country, note, you wouldn't if the Toronto Maple Leafs were still playing, nobody would know we're still playing nobody would care. Remember play by. They've been good years. I understand like you'd be you would be the biggest star of a basketball player in trunk. Right. You don't think Hawaii the biggest right now? Yes. Sure. Okay. Okay. I based are in Canada who's who's in the Santa finals, the Boston or they played Saint Louis St Louis. Any big Canadians in that? I have no idea. There's lots of Canadians in hockey any big Canadian like a big name, Canadian. No not. Really? Okay. Well, so no. You laughed at me. And then you're know that any big Canadians and knocking all. Yeah. So the look I again I just can't be prisoner of the moment go like oh, it's beautiful great fans, like they just got the we'll live. There can't make them can't make people live where they don't wanna live. They don't want free agents. Don't wanna go there. I mean like look it's not bottom. It's not Utah, which I would tell you like Salt Lake City. Awesome, awesome. Good place to raise family, great place, live actually downtown area kinda cool. I, I would I could go there but I'm not the guy's making. I'm not kyri. I'm not I'm not Kevin Durant. I'm not Draymond green or Klay Thompson, or any of these guys that can be aged. I'm not Kemba Walker. Those guys feel like they want to be in New York. We're don't even mention Chicago, which is an awesome. So that's the problem in, in the NBA is, they're all in big cities that are amazing, right? But you also mentioned all these cities that haven't been to the NBA finals or having been in years and years and years, okay? Now suddenly, you can have the best of all world, with all these guys think they all think they're good enough to where hey, if. I team up with. So antonio. We're going to get there. It's all the thing. All right now, let me throw this at Eunice Kawai does leave. Clippers are as destination. Let's just say the clippers because what we've heard Jerry West. This is the big Jerry West middle finger tour that he's gonna have towards the Lakers and everybody else. Right. Coli goes to the clippers today. They become the favorites in the Western Conference, assuming that Kevin Durant leaves after this year goes the next go someplace else, or who the Lakers, Lakers will add, let's say the Lakers, add Kyrie, they had one bad one player to come along with LeBron James warriors Lakers clippers warriors are still over the late. Well, we've worked zoo, it'd be warriors Lakers clippers. Yeah, I mean, the one thing that people need to understand, is, if, if Katie leaves are going to add somebody in katie's place. It's not gonna be playing just like they're playing now right? They're going to the and they'll have to revamp their bench..

"I the good news. The Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs. Four to one the series is now tied one one and the bad news. The Red Sox lost to the Baltimore Orioles nine to five and now to the Morgan white show with Morgan white junior. I'm Suzanne sauce Ville WBZ Boston's NewsRadio. This is the Morgan show Morgan white junior. Call six one seven two five four ten thirty joined the group at hang-up with mortgage on WBZ NewsRadio ten thirty. Good Sunday morning, everybody. Welcome to April fourteenth here on WBZ one day away from the Boston marathon said this last night, I'll say now a lot of people filling up the hotels around Boston either to run in the marathon to support a runner in the marathon. So if Boston is a new backdrop view, I say welcome a lot of things to take advantage of touristy things here in the city of Boston. And if you get chance, especially where tomorrow's supposed to be pretty nice day. You search out asked the concierge of your tell where to go what to do. And I'm sure they'll give you find suggestions. I misspoke last night. I said I rarely have done this. I don't think I've ever done this. But I do it with Andrew fielding and in my when I have them come back for two hour stint within five to seven weeks. But this is the first time I've had somebody else. Do it on a topic? And it's a gentleman that I've known for four decades. He and I are friends. And if there's a Donna party situation, I think we'd rather starve them. Bring harm to either one of us. And those of you who have any interest in sports and you somewhere in you forty fifties. And sixties, you know, this name Mr. Jimmy Myers, Jimmy. Good morning. I joked up. Yeah. Don't don't don't don't scare me. Now. Everything's fine. I'm wondering how are you? I'm fired. Oh, it's it's good to be alive every single day of your life. It's good to be alive. All the people who woke up it's now after midnight, you made it to another day another day, and you should be grateful for Lord. You should you should pray every single day. Just look up to this guy. Say thanks because this wasn't promised to me. I was not promised to be here. I wasn't promised that I'm going to be here. Even after today. So you really have to enjoy every and you try to live every single one to the best of you ability. You do and you should I mean, it's too easy to complain about things. I mean, we can all all have aches pains. Whatever blue when you think about the alternative, and for many of you out there, you don't know where you're going from here. Some of us believe we're going to the right place, upwards, upwards, others believe that they may be going to the down elevator and others may be in some kind of purgatory situation, but the essence of life is that you enjoy it on a day-to-day basis, you get around, and you get a chance to look around at the people you love your children, your loved ones, and these are people that you get to see for another day. Yes. And you try not to what I've always tried to make policy never go to bed. Angry friday. Whatever is an issue trying to straighten out with that person, or whatever before you close your eyes because it's a horrible feeling that think that maybe the last thing that you said to someone was across legitimate. Promise you sunrise, you got that right partner. Now, I was in Vegas last week. Most my audience knows there, and I checked my landline do that my cell phone, and they had a message from you. Because you were. Displeased will use that word. And you're right. You lot way the end of the college. Final went semi final was final. And then the final. Okay. So let me find a way. Voth? Yeah. And the officiating the late-game game officiating in both are made a decision, right then. Yeah, we can talk about it. And we did let's talk about this on the air. And there are so many points of sports where an official. Either win subjective. Or did not go up genitive. And that's why you hear and that's what we're going to talk about tonight. I have officiated basketball for most of my life. I've done some football baseball. And I always took pride in the fact that being an official is one of the highest offices that anyone can hold in any sport. The reason being is that you are the person that's there to govern the rules, and you are entrusted, and you entrust it exactly there's a sacred trust there that you're going to get it right now. I know the so many people view you sitting out there. And you're hearing my voice, I know, you think of the name of Tim Donnegan, and we know all the tunnel things that he did as an official, but there's so many other good officials that have worked in the NBA NFL baseball umpire called a hockey. Yes. And it just kills you to see when anything disrupts the integrity of the game. You're in Vegas. So I don't have to tell you this millions of dollars would bet on these. Games through. And I saw this celebration beginning at all burn in tumors corner. It's a famous center of the Auburn campus where they fill toilet paper up against twelve toilet paper, and the trees and everything, and they it was coming down to the end all these students were gathering the thinking, we got one we got it. We're going to the NC double A finals I'm in studio, and I'm watching this game. And I'm saying to myself. A boy who are under a minute. And it's a tight game. Please. I this is what I actually said, please don't let there be a bad call if I know referees. Always everyone let the players decide the game. No you call the game. The game is supposed to be my son. I've told him this since he was in third or fourth grade. You never celebrate until the clock reads zero as the gun goes something again, you're the buzzer. Right. Right. Don't do it. There have been many time all history. Oh, are you kidding me? Think of think of Seattle fan. Goodness. Overhead do up run the ball. Right. I mean, there's so many instances like that. But here's the situation. Whereas, and I know you're statement goes down through all, and I know a lot of people still sitting there crying in their drinks or whatever a week later. They're angry. They were angry come Monday for the final game. These people were hostile because you kept seeing the play over and over and over again, it you're saying, wait a minute. Wait a minute. We have the technology to get this, right? But the double takes this all high and mighty profile that we're not going to use this. But then again, he's with the diplomacy comes in two nights later Monday night in the championship game key play in overtime ball is knocked away from a player, they go to the replay there over there on the screen looking at everything that is that they got a ton of criticism right from the from from all people like Austin in media and so forth. How did you get that wrong? The ball player jiggling the ball tied. Jerome Virginia player team is down by two. Just in case. You didn't see it? He's dribbling the ball up the court. Now, they said, well, he was grabbed whatever whatever he dribble. The ball off his foot off of his foot on the defense. Put the ball rolls backwards behind him. He runs back picks it up two hands as dribble again. Double triple naturally now. I'm sitting there in the studio. I'm going, oh, what the hell is that? It's a double dribble to any other player. Did it deflect off? Now somebody's shoelace. No, his and I said to myself full you doing I said visit you can't miss that. Call now the camera angles showed that referee is looking right down about he's right there. And I said to myself now, of course, ano- you conspiracy theorists come in. And they want to win it when ACC team to win. They want to one of the prime teams to win. They didn't want Texas. Thanks to win. Texas Tech win. They didn't want Auburn to win. I'm sitting there going look. A call like that. And he's supposed to be three of the top qualified officials. Right. The other two will claim I was down the other. I didn't see it. Yeah. But there's a referee standing right there. Now, he's supposed to be one of the best in the business. He doesn't know what a double jubilees in a national semifinal game with million say that eighty no, I'm I'm just saying I'm questioning, right? You couldn't Morgan rage health could've made that call her the ball. Now, he's building building. No nothing personal resting up there. But I I'm dumbfounded. I'm sitting there going I cannot believe this. So then all of a sudden. Everything in my brain starts triggering that. I edit this. I'm triggering all the bad calls. I've seen over the years. Now, we got instant replay try to correct. Some of this stuff a month earlier you saw that in the game for the NFC to get into the superbly. The ram gut the world's biggest break by their corner. Not being flagged for head butting, the New Orleans Saints guys fever, you have four the ball there. If it's gotta be it's clearly passing the first now, all of a sudden the National Football League is stepped in. Well, we they called Sean, Sean Payton, the head coach media apologize. I don't wanna hear your apology. We're playing with history. We have a chance to go to the Super Bowl, right? And okay, patriot fans. I know you're out there saying whatever grew about to say, let me say this. You would have needed a heck of a lot more than thirteen points to beat that New Orleans team. I would not have won a game thirteen to three against drew Brees. And that grew I agree. But this this taken out of it Morgan, and okay, there's less than a minute and forty to play. You give them the penalty where she should have had it right mortgage. And you don't have to worry for one reason they can run the clock. All the way out kick a field goal and win the game or go in which they're probably going to take two or three downs run out. Exactly. And I'm sitting there, and I'm watching this. I'm sending stuff you gotta be kidding me. You gotta be kidding me. And you're talking about somebody who's who's covered who's done this for fifty years and I've seen a ton of bad calls. I mean for the life of me, I still look at some of the calls in the old in the NFL the sixties babe Chandler's field goal with the ball was clearly wide against the colts. But they gave it to the Packers and the Packers won the title. And it was the Packer fan of the damage that. No, no, no. This is wrong. It's wrong. It's wrong. Limits lead up to this. And I'm going you kidding me. I'm gonna say one that the patriots were involved in the phantom roughing the passer against Oakland and nine thousand nine hundred seventy. Six. Yes. And. Have there called Hamilton it should here against Kenny stabler have they're called narping made pay gone into the Super Bowl moves who knows that they onto the Super Bowl go. And if we see then Oakland went on to beat Minnesota. The patriots could beat Minnesota that they had good of beat Minnesota. And I remember being on here with channel four at the time. I edited it from 'bout every single camera angle. NBC gave me I edited I edited I said, okay. Let me show this ankle Michelle angelman show this angle.

They're going to need an even better effort here tonight against the Toronto Maple leaf that effort was great, but they're going to need even more than this is a different animal. This is the the high powered Toronto Maple Leafs. They got great offense players on their roster that this is gonna be a different type of. Matchup that the Blackhawks having seen the last couple of games. Dallas Arizona two teams struggling to score goals on a consistent basis. This team can't score goals. They got scoring thrilled lineup. Blackhawks got to be really good in their own end today and make sure that they're prepared to pay the right way. Because Mike Babcock is going to have these guys playing up to their potential in this game tonight after that slack. They took the other night that you've mentioned for sure. All right. The injury report sponsored by Blue Cross Blue shield, Illinois, the car to carry through at all. Good. Julia remains out of a lineup with concussion septum. And he hopefully is coming along haven't heard too much about him. But Cam war has been with the team. He took the morning skate this morning Cam ward is coming along. And his condition is improving. We may see him back in the lineup real soon time for tonight keys to the game. And they're sponsored by Bud Light rays one for hockey twice got those keys. Thanks, john. The first keys you better be ready to play this game. You better be spared. The right way, this is gonna be a tough contest and trial is gonna come out fly until late upper start. You have to make sure that you're on your game. Second key is the defense high powered offense for the tunnel. Police is going to be a real good challenge to see how they play defensively against the team thing that they did the other night very well against Arizona park management bids. Turtle parks in that game. That's gotta be another key here tonight. Because this team is great in transition Tari. Thank you for those keys. Troy while the boys are on the ice surface will have hockey here momentarily. Give you the goal right now for the Tronto Maple Leafs. It's gonna be Frederik Anderson who in his career three two and three, and it's gonna be Corey Crawford at the other end three one and on his career against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Mississippi kind of a game that Corey I think what take a lot of frighten me knows what it means to his team. He knows that a win here tonight can keep things going. The Blackhawks start the evening only six points out of a playoff spot, and you just never know with thirteen games left in the regular season where they could climb to. But without great goaltending. You're not gonna get their Corey Crawford knows that the hockey world knows that. So let's hope but Cory will give out one of his best performances here tonight. This time we're going to send it down the ice level and pick up our anthem singer bowl phantoms here tonight. Oh, Canada and the star spangled banner, and then hockey the Blackhawks and the Toronto Maple Leafs Jenin original six matchup. Enjoy the anthem.

"He's the game misconduct podcast with Don the Greco at walk into the Tuesday edition of game is conduct Dom download Greco. Let's get right to it. Huge games. Last night. Lightening statement game six to over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto, you know, you worry about the lightning sometimes because they're bored but go to Toronto, and there's an atmosphere there and it's team. That's in your division. You're on the road. And when this team's engaged. It's just incredible to watch. And it's not always about kucherov. It's not always about. Stamkos Johnson did get a couple of goals. You I was twenty four on the season cat gets a couple of goals. He now has twelve and we've talked about at nausea on his podcast at the lightning. Just can't wait to get to the playoffs and can't wait to get tested. I mean this team is every bit as good as any great team that we've seen and history shows that the great regular season teams. Don't always win the Cup. They're on pace for one hundred twenty nine points. That's close to the one hundred and thirty one the Red Wings had back in ninety five ninety six and the Red Wings lost in the conference finals. So we all understand the. The rules of engagement nothing that happens in the regular season. As far as dominant is concerned automatically translates to the postseason, but you'll find the weakness. I mean sit down if you're keepin watch a lightning game and tell me where the weaknesses. I mean, they can score deep scoring four lines. They can roll all of them can be threat. Deep on the blue line. They play eight defensemen. I mean, that's how deep they go. Their goaltending is spectacular the coaches great. The only thing that you can maybe say is that this does have a history of disappointing in the postseason. You know, you go back to last year having a three two lead against Washington, eventually losing it. But that was an eventual Stanley Cup champion capital team that was kind of in the same boat where they never seem to win the game. And then finally, did you know, you can go back to twenty eleven if you wanna go back far when Gibo Shay was head coach and losing the conference final the Boston losing the Stanley Cup final in two thousand fifteen to Chicago. Although I don't think there's any shame in adjecto winning their third of three cups and in a very short period of time. So. We'll see. But right now, Boston, I think is a team that could fight them and hang with them. But the way the light near playing right now. I don't see the weakness. Now there could be injuries guys cannot play. Well, but this just seems to be as complete team as possible and maybe a leadership moment for Austin Matthews. He said his team quit after the game. And you know, to be honest with you, a MOS in and out of a lot of other games. This game was non-competitive. So I didn't spend a lot of time watching it was four nothing in the blink of an eye. And I saw I was watching islanders blue jackets. I was doing the Rangers. Oilers game of the pre imposed to the rather games a little bit more engaged in this game got out of hand. But whether they did or didn't to me isn't the issue. It's that Austin Matthews who's trying to be leader on a team that doesn't have a lot of it. Right. I mean, Patrick Marlowe is a leader. Because of the fact he's been in the league so long as a future hall of Famer went to a Stanley Cup final with the San Jose Sharks a couple of years ago, but he's still relatively new only a second year in Toronto. Oh, you know on jobs. John Taveras can be a leader one of the best players on the team. But not a lot of history of winning when he was at the islanders, but he's been league this tenth year. So there's some veteran there. But when you look for the combination of a homegrown player a young player a star player. Maybe this could be that moment where Matthews makes that statement got back up. I mean, obviously, you just can't allow the team to continue to lose statements aren't going to really matter. It's about going out there and making statements on the ice with your play..

"Were really surprised when Rick talk it was made available on Sunday the twentieth game day as his coyotes. We're about to face off against Toronto Maple Leafs. Rick talking. First of all as you alluded to very appreciative that he would come on game day my first year at hockey night. We had a game in Pittsburgh just after Christmas. It was during the week. It was not a Saturday. I think it was a Thursday game. And it was Sidney Crosby's rookie year, and he came in. And he did an interview at eight AM on the morning of game. Wow. And we say we want him one on one. And the penguins said up and Crosby agreed to do it. And I do remember run and on who made the trip for that game to saying wended Crosby do this. They will he came at eight AM in the morning to do is on a game day. And that's kind of when I realized how big a deal that was that. He did that I didn't really realize it before. So if a coach or a player says I'll give you game day time, that's a big deal. And so we're appreciative and talk it was dynamite. In this interview. I think he'll enjoy it. This is Rick. Doc, it not just talking about the coyotes today not just talking about him coaching today. But there's a lot about his career as bench boss with the Pittsburgh Penguins. There's a lot about his career as a player. A lot of talk about coaches that influenced him the name Mike Keenan will come up a lots and one of say one of probably his thoughts on the best fight ever at maple leaf gardens. "Steve's gambling addiction that he since kicked. Yeah. Everything. That's for real suck goes at sixty big ones. Come april. Oh, man. So yeah. The distraction is let's get these two elephants on the ice. And they're just going to start fucking sure. What? And this is what's great because what a black guy for the NHL. Yeah. Like, the NHL just allows all of this to happen. Here's the thing. They do when they wind up winning the Cup right in fucking a legal way by the well, that's what a black guy for the Toronto Maple Leafs. This. This would be a totally fucking. They would rip the banner off the and asterisk at the very least. We'd be talking. Everyone would be talking about the elephants fucking. Right. Yeah. That's that's what is in the Toronto Star elevate. Fuck gain the game. I I saw that saw that. night on ESPN classically elephant game. I l Michael's. Well, just album might see a whole new market here. She can just have donkeys shows on ice. Chris cat Chris zoo cabin by the way, one hundred. One hundred. Vase me of them to elephants. Fuck it in that hacky game a couple of months ago. Let's to the now there it is. And that was of course, he eventually went on to become the president of the United States. Was riding the elephant the mail. That was doing the thrusting. You know, I always heard that elephants liked Nutting. I thought that was peanuts. But it turns out it's actually Nutting into another elephant haven't been this uncomfortable since I sat next to OJ. Simpson. Edit dinner Michaels asked them to pass a steak knife. Anyway, have had a more awkward experience. Broadcasting sports since Dennis Miller was doing Monday night football. You know, Dennis. I don't know much about the ancient Roman. So I'm gonna take a pass on just just gonna take a moment here to thank our janitorial staff at the Maple Leafs day day, our brave bunch of fellas I've met them. I've been to their holiday party. They were just a great great group of workers down there. Let me ask you this. Troy, do you know, how hard it is to clean elephant semen up off of ice. It's darn near impossible it melts straight through. It's like the movie alien. All right. So right prior to that where we got Verne Troyer doing the fake heart attack. Right Strack shin. Right. And he gets he gets pounded with the clamps that electrify him and throw him into the hockey classic dummy work, which is the classic dummy work. We were speaking earlier just letting people know where it fits, right? Right. And then Romany Malcolm, much like the end of the first Mighty Ducks. Film wins the game with an illegal maneuver. Yes. Because the Mighty Ducks do the like flying the, and it's you can't create a barrier like that against the rules. You also cannot pick the puck up off the ice and throw it to the other end of the rink and then skate after it just what he fucking does. Dude, NHL how about this. If you want your league represented on film, how bad at least having the common courtesy to play by the rules. More offended at the elephant semen or picking up the puck. I'm L Michael's. You know, what it's the puck that isn't as grace to the game. Listen, I've been watching hockey for forty or fifty years, and I've seen elephants fuck on the ice a couple of times. But you pick up the puck, and Chuck it down rink, buddy. I don't know why our cameras just cut to cut that obese couple. I. That seems kinda tasteless I'm going to be honest with horrible joke in this bad. It's also like how dare you? It's it's actually the most tender moment is like two people who are actually in love like holding hand. But they're reminded why they're in love by watching to pistes fun. Yeah. I couldn't believe that ship. Looking in a mirror of the joke. Also in the audience, we get to see Mike Myers as himself with Konya. Wait what? The fly again. Yes, it cuts to it's it's Michael Myers in Michael dump on pumping a Toronto Maple Leafs. Leaps. Turn Rondo Maple Leafs jersey, and he's with Kanye west. And they're celebrating the win. There's a longer take where like Konya is like going to say something and Mike Myers is doing like, please don't say it. Please don't say it. George Bush doesn't care about black which was three years before this movie came out..

"A perfect six zero with a goal golden stabs at like one and a half a save percentage. That's at nine fifty. He has been terrific for Pittsburgh. If he stays healthy. This is a complete team that can challenge Tampa challenge Washington in the Eastern Conference. I've got Pittsburgh at number two number. What can I say that? I haven't already said, and what you don't already know. Tampa's, the best team in the league seven straight wins nine one one in their last ten a sparkling fifteen three into away from home seventeen and four at home. Plus fifty four goal differential is twenty one better than the second place team the Toronto Maple Leafs just a gorgeous hockey team that is getting healthier by the day. This is the give Stanley Cups out on January fourth. But if you did you'd easily give the polish challenge over to the lightning. It was tough Calgary. I think has been very good Washington has been good as well. Lot of teams that deserve to be in the top five, but I had to narrow down the selection, and I went with those five. Debate amongst yourselves. Let's hear from you at Donald brecca hashtag game is conduct. Let's start with David and says regarding Blackhawks fatigue outdoor games. I was surprised by this. We've been in six over they've been in six overall outdoor games four winter classics two stadium series and have a surprising record of one five outdoors. No wins in the winter. "Three two one series in five guys you excited you know you always say you want time off we've had six days in between games so i think the guys want to get back into it practicing against each other can only go so far they want to go against somebody else but i think guys are excited and there's a lot of let's get this going and looking forward to getting into the next round and seeing another opponent but i don't i don't think they're anxious thick a closer look at john cooper's team who the bruins gonna meet for only the second time in franchise history in the stanley cup playoffs andrei vasilevskiy the youngster in net is going through the playoffs is the number one guy for the first time and john cooper outlined the tail end of the season for the best candidate is iraq all year if his numbers weren't as up to par the last third of the season was because of our team and i don't care who you are if your team's not going to play as well front you there's no way your numbers are going to stay the way they were well that might be true and i'm sure it is to a certain point it is actually a certain point watching them play down the stretch but best left he's the one that came out and said i'm tired he was playing an awful lot this season they did try to monitor a lot over the last month and a half and hoping that he's back in a strong place right now now whether he's back full fuller not assume that he is and you got rask at the other end i think it's important to note that both of these teams were among the top scoring teams in the nhl during the regular season so are the toronto maple leafs so you've got you've got teams that can score if you've got to win a game five four where have you have to win a game if it's true to one so be it but there might be some higher scoring games in this series i'm sure that that's going to be great for the.
