Blue Jays' Jay Jackson says he was tipping pitches against Aaron Judge
"Toronto Blue Jays right hander Jay Jackson says he believes he was tipping his pitches when New York Yankees slugger Aaron judge Homer against him Monday night. First, I don't want to make it like the stewardess job is to clean up, but it kind of is. Right? Yeah. And this woman, it also depends on how the woman the mom treated the staff. "But i think it'll be a you know a significantly watered down version of what we've all come to know and love but i'm really really really hoping by two thousand twenty two. It's back to the way it's always been so we all do a tour. You've noticed ams have something to play for. They've taken a a step forward this year with some of the young players and particularly on the pitching side. Yeah it's funny. What the blue jays are are kind of looking ahead not behind right. But they're but if they look behind the first thing i see the mariners so this is a huge series for seattle bluejays. Take two out of three I think the mariners are a little bit of trouble. But if the mariners take two or three or sweet. They're you know they're helping themselves and damage that they're trying to catch. So you know i know. The trade deadline was a little bit bumpy with the grave mundell and everybody wondering you know i. I don't know if that hurt the team but of a hangover after. And they went in a bit of a tailspin after that but they've won their last two toro's graded so there is some talent there. It's funny that bluejays have run differential. You guys had talked about this up. Run differential of like plus one twenty nine or something like that or the mariners like minus forty nine. And they're only like two and a half games apart the standing something like that. It's it's funny. The blue have been blowing people out and losing close game. Answer the hip that winning close game so that occasionally get blown out so You know at the end of the year. All that matters is the wins and losses. And i think bluejays are a better team Also know the mariners have been pitching really well lately at the blue jays. You're gonna see three guys this weekend so it will be a challenge for the blue jays to win the series. I know that They have to stop in washington before they get back home. What did you make of the game and the presentation I didn't get the all of it at game last night. That bluejays obviously so we had it on kind of a side monitor in the studio because it was starting earlier as we were Kind of get game mode ourselves but It looks beautiful like visually. It was studying. That's for sure and the players sure seem to Have a great time and all their quotes after made it sound like it was a fantastic experience and you know the game delivered to say the least what happened in the ninth inning chop it bottom so I thought it was very cool. I i was a part of a couple of those games back. When i was doing sunday night baseball. We have two one in williamsport Where the little league world series is played and we did one at a military base fort bragg in north carolina so I i know how much work goes into them. And i thought the The folks at fox did a great job and it sure looked great from what i can tell moving onto the blue jays. Dan assess what you saw there in los angeles in anaheim As they make their way up to seattle yet not great you know you would have loved to have seen them take three out of four. I think it was kinda almost predictable. You know coming off at first home stand and all the emotion taking three out of four from the red sox and springer home run to win it on sunday You almost thought. Wow maybe a little bit susceptible to elect down or a bit of a trap against the angels. They you know they didn't get swept. They split but I i think they could have done a little bit. "Just doing improv. it's it's it's a great way to get people comfortable with each other. Break the ice and you really have to be vulnerable when you're doing improv. Like there's no you know if if you aren't you can't really engage and be a part of sketch like you're putting yourself out there like you're being silly and we can't like really have any inhibitions too while so it's such a cool to line and in think of any of this at the time i just thought like yeah kinda comedy and the seems like a cool thing to do and knighted often ended up doing five improv classes in poverty. But you know now. In retrospect thinking about it it's such a is such a cool in an applicable skill. Set tool to too many different situation was at up. Part of the improv class. No it was class that i did not finish the improv ones. And i was like i love. Stand up on you know and You know had more free time on my on my hands than than i do now and shot while i think it's interesting. The last blue believe the last blue jay game. I went to was at yankee stadium. And i think it was near the end of the season. It might have been. I think it was twenty. Nine thousand nineteen Obviously twenty yeah. It has to have been twenty nine thousand nine Because every late september early. October find myself outside the last year in new york city for work and i try to go to a baseball game and it just so happened. That that year The jays i think jay's it might maybe was the last series of the season but the jays were playing in new york. And i and i went to a went to. I went to that game. At every time i go to new york. I must go to the comedy cellar. Yeah i try to get tickets to to see. Cold bear Or trevor noah by definitely will go to the seller and it has always been a dream of mine to to do a routine even if it's five minutes. Just do it because it's nags on me that that that got happen to scared to do it. You know it's funny like most people don't watch much stand. Think that you know it's okay. Like data pretty talented. Everything i don't know if you remember that including beer. We've been testing a lot of things. I think it was kind of more along the lines of that. Like how do we bring in more local food and beverage options that that's clearly something people want how we find a way to do that. How do we create more flexible. And and You know different ticket options ticket experiences. Some things that are bundled tickets that you know. It's it's not just a ticket. It might be like food or beverage or something you can brought it in that And then thinking about the building itself you know like there. There's there's some things in building that Are things that we've changed over time You know this the the offseason. So in twenty twenty we took out in the one hundred level If you recall in the outfield there's there used to be above the floors four or five or six rows of seats all along the outfield. We took all of those out and those are all bar. Al now so the walkout in the outfield..

I so badly wanted to just call it that which is weird because i remember when when the the name i came up people go. What's the skydome then would have changed over to roger. Stanton people are saying. I refuse to call it the roger center. It's a skydome right. Yeah i think that happens you know. I caught myself saying acc still do on. I think that's that's pretty natural. Mom whenever there's a were whenever there's a transition you know for us. It's funny when you asked me that question. I thought about it in at least when We were all working in roger center. Let's stop yourself attack. i was thinking. Pnc park is incredible All park you know it's so simple. We get so many things right now along the different elements that i talked about. So there's a lot you know. But i think it's not that i would look at one in sale like that's that is the data a ballpark. It's more that. I appreciate the unique things that that different ballparks do. Well yeah some have certainly more things they do well than others but yeah i mean i think i think i think there's something special about each ballpark yet. That's for sure. You are there. Because i think now even though were Toronto i think we also you ourselves being the only major league team in canada as stewards of the game in the actually spend a lot of time and energy on Efforts focused at growing and growing the game at the grassroots level so that there's a lot of amateur baseball programming that we put on from no bring the trainer like coaching camps to uber. Camps to You know were elite level prospect Getting exposure to canadian prospects to to kind of scouts. So that is something that is that is definitely top of mind for us. Or is it impossible for grass to grow on concrete Do you Beriot and either build a an outdoor grass turf stadium On top you know in that same location or daego somewhere else. Where where do we sit. What can you. what can you tell us. Yeah i mean. I think those all of those questions have been looked at You know ultimately. I think This has been have covered in commented on mike in terms of in terms of where we are on On any kind of redevelopment like there was there was some work being done on a diagnose options before the pandemic and frankly there hasn't been a lot of traction since Yeah i mean. I i think there is a there are a few different options at that. You could go all the way from a renovation within the current footprint to is something much larger is grasped in came grass. Ever an option in the ryder center. It would be tough. So there's there's a few things would need to happen. One is You know if we wanted to put into roger center today The the lower bowl is built like half of it is on a suspended slab right so like there's a parking lot below in. There's no irrigation so the roof has to close when it rains because there's no like rain drainage all it would flood so in order to progress in you'd need some candy or gatien drainage system which doesn't exist to you'd need to be able to have some amount of soil down there Both of which both of which are probably solvable but maybe not cost. Effectively and the second challenge is growing growing grass especially in the winter but overall within a structure so like without being able to get constant sunlight on on the grass. That is a challenge to though. I know that there was work down on that. You know investigating different options But but that's kind of.
