MA Supreme Court Justice Supports Daughter's Basketball Dreams
"For some time now state Supreme Court justice has been preoccupied with what's happening in the court and on the court a basketball court WBZ's Carl Stevens spoke with marble head girls high school basketball player Maddy lui and her father justice David Lowy you're in your senior year you towards the end of your high school basketball career and every step of the way for many years your dad has been by your side and I just wonder what that has meant to you I think it's when everything is something that we've done together something that's made our relationship so strong in every time we're having a tough game or the other teams having a streak I can just look into the stands and now he's supporting me either way and it's not just at the games right right every Saturday we drive up to Topsfield and have a basketball lesson and then all through the fall and spring since I was about nine or ten years old driving to three hours to a few tournaments what is he like a game so focused if anyone comes the game doesn't talks until halftime is just completely tuned in your dad was telling me stories about how you guys together would listen to books right yeah can you talk to me about that so that's something we love to do we have the longer rise to a U. tournaments in I think my favorite book that we ever listen to was educated can you talk about the importance and I know this is kind of repetition of my first question but I'm looking for a little more out of the because we're talking about from the age of nine two how old are you now senator okay so those eight years he's been with you every step of the way mile after mile game after game what has that meant to you you're almost a young woman now what is that meant to you I think it's just it's taught me how important it is to have a support system in someone that you can count on and he's taught me so much taught me being having grace under pressure in big games taught me about a commitment to excellence saying that you can't just want to win on the night of the game but this time you have to want to win in the fall in the summer in the spring before the season you gonna miss him for sure all right dead no the same question I asked your daughter what has this relationship meant to you over the years well the best part about basketball is they get to spend time with my daughter the joy of it is to drive they are talking about the game and just having a chat about whatever comes up and the way home we dissect the game afterwards and then we just seamlessly have wonderful conversations so best part basketball is the time with her they tell me happy all the time a lover just the same way they should have it for another three pointer again she had five in a row I know how much work how much time your work takes I mean you redeem them you're working a lot and yet the amount of time you've devoted to your your daughter that's intense and I just wonder how and why you were able to make that time well family first and that the games in the corner in between games reading transcripts from reading briefs but we have a we have a great time and it there's always enough time for the family you can always get up a little earlier you can always stay up a little later you can always put a few more hours and but you family comes first and she's a senior she's gonna be graduating and moving out to the university of Virginia and I just wonder what your thoughts are about that well I'm thinking about getting a faculty position out there my thoughts are that you know she's been preparing for this moment or her whole life she's ready and that's part about being a parent is be proud when they're ready to go Maddie is we wrap this up I just wonder if you go back in your memory if there any favorite memories that you have of your dad at a basketball game I remember when I was nine or ten my dad made a mistake about the game time when I was playing up in Newbury park for a travel game I think the game is that one and we got there at ten in most kids would probably be screaming and yelling that they had to wake up extra early but we saw an open court and I think we shop around for one or two hours and then got lunch before the game and it ended up number one being an awesome day together number two for a fifth grader I think I shot the best ever had the basketball season for the marble had high school girls basketball team ended earlier this week when they lost in the
