"Acts Chapter One. Is really cool and really confusing not for us, but. Certainly would have been for the disciples on one occasion while Jesus was eating with. X One verse four by the way I should have said that sorry acts chapter one verse four in IV, twenty eleven. On one occasion while he was eating with them. He I'm sorry I can't skip over that phrase, but I didn't plan on one occasion. Not a special occasion. Just, just any old Sunday morning. Any old Monday afternoon. You know on one occasion. He would give them the instructions that would really explained to them his kingdom in a way they'd never seen. Any David the greatest promise of the greatest gift that they would ever. That they would ever know. Okay on one occasion. We'll have to go a little faster than this if we're going to get through it on one occasion while he was eating with them. This is Jesus eating with his disciples. He gave them this command. Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift. Wait for the gift. My father promised what you've heard me. Speak About for John Baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit in a few days you will receive the greatest gift, and it's not gonna come in the form of a car. Or House or bonus or something like that? It's going to be the Holy Spirit the greatest come from within. Waiting on an amen. Waiting on the name, and like they were waiting on the Holy Spirit. But then this this, this is the part I want us to jump from today and we have. We have a lot of ground to cover, but from here then they gathered around him and asked him. Here's what they wanted to know. He's speaking about the gift that he wants to give them the holy. Spirit he's already died on the cross risen from the dead. He's about to send to have, but he said I'M GONNA. Give you a gift and you have to wait, and then they gathered around. The Nasscom Lord argue at this time at this time. Going to restore the kingdom to Israel. At this time. Somebody, say at this time. At this time he said to them it is not for you to know the Times or dates. The father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power. Here's the guarantee you will receive power. When the Holy Spirit comes you, and you'll be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the. You didn't say Amen, and you have a couple so I'm worried what's going on at the house. Do you need? Children are a blessing amen. Amen, and when you getting ready to have kids, they give you all kinds of advice. We were talking about the birth of the Church I was talking about the birth of my first born son, but. When when you're having your first one right since you don't know what to expect at all, the experts come out of the woodworks telling you how they raise their kids. They don't tell you that that one. They're telling you how they raised and giving you advice based off of Winter Rehab three times, but they just start telling you all this advice, and they'll tell you. U.K. epidemiologist radically lowers his predicted coronavirus death toll

"R. Neil Ferguson is an epidemiologist and he's been outspoken for weeks about the virus and how bad it can how bad it can get and you site early on he said unless and until it's possible we're looking at over half a million deaths in the U. K. most recently I think within these last days the same Neil Ferguson acknowledging that adaptation is in place and that people have changed their conduct so that the virus does not spread well in LA he is now made remarks saying well what we have now could bring in the death toll well under twenty are under twenty thousand that's way put it now that's a dramatic change from science in a period of weeks from a half a million to twenty thousand I am not either number is acceptable however that's that trajectory suggests that bores and seven could be caught making the wrong policy decision when science switches on and how is it done with what I know it's been a a very well reported story about the imperial college being not so gloomy well you have to be careful I I think with how you interpret your professor Ferguson's your updated system it's on that because remember that the estimate the you know more than five hundred thousand Britons with Tonya Harding you know if nothing were done to check the spread of the disease yeah my understanding is that they haven't really replace that but what they've said this is actually the measures the government has put in place in terms of the social distancing and also in terms of the more recent lockdown might actually be effective at slowing the spread you know I think this is important because it is a fast moving situation in so many records I mean first off it measures the government has taken in the individual people are taking in terms of hand washing or social distancing you're going to have an effect on the spread of the disease of the of the the screen with the places on healthcare systems and the ability to treat people the longer read away the spread the more prospect there is what people could benefit if we find treatment for it so I think the American in terms of this policy for networking built in the column it's important to understand if you're appealing to science to justify a particular policy finances often going to be a moving target here are over it's going to be that element of a political decision making that you won't be able to get out of the spot if you wonder what the scientists

"Ice at full speed and suddenly you're skate goes perpendicular which forces you to stop moving going forward all that momentum hurls you up into the air while hanging mid air you spend your body around three and a half rotations in less than a second. Finally you land on the foot that you didn't use for the takeoff and you come down with immense force more than four times as your body weight if this was to be Tanya's file shot then. She was shooting for the Moon in February. She headed to Minneapolis Minnesota Minnesota for the nineteen ninety one. US Championships after placing seventh in last year's competition addition Tanya wasn't on anyone's short list of contenders but there were whispers of Tanya's ambitious plan rumors of her scheduled triple axel so when she stepped onto the ice it was a softer Tanya. She'd grown out her hair. Her costume was more demure mint green instead instead of the electric colors of the past. Though of course Tanya Being Tanya she also set the final section of her routine too tone folks wild thing her music started and she pushed off the ice. The triple axel was scheduled as the third move in her program in the first sixty seconds of her four minutes on the ice her fate would be sealed. First set of camel spins then triple Lutz. And then the ring collectively held their breath would she land the triple Axel reporter. Christine Brennan described the anticipation. One of the reasons season. Skating has always been so popular on. Television is because there is that unbelievable moment of decision. If you go up for a jump jump in come crashing down and you're on your hands and knees it's over. There is no second free throw. There's no third strike. There's no no fourth-down it's over. But it wasn't over for Tonya. She landed the Triple Axel and she absolutely nailed the the rest of her program which included six other triple jumps. The judges awarded her eight five point nine and even a perfect six point. Oh not only did she make history but she won the entire competition. She was the United States champion. A few months later at Skate America. She did it again but this time she landed two triple axels during the competition. Another gold medal. Another another record broken. She was headed to the nineteen ninety two Olympics. At first this accomplishment gave Tania incredible momentum in all areas of her life she separated from Jeff Galilee and and filed a restraining order against him in the paperwork. She stated she was afraid for her life. After she learned Jeff had purchased a shotgun she moved into an apartment with a friend and focused on her skating. She started a new relationship with another man who friends described. As having a calming calming effect. She was in the best shape of her life down ninety six pounds and bench pressing one hundred ten. Her coach dody teach been described her as untouchable but by the fall of nineteen ninety. One just a few months before the Games Jeff and Tanya suddenly reconciled she said I know it seemed like I was happy but something was missing and now I know what it was Jeff Ebonite love each other more than ever. We're going to get a counselor and work it out. I know he's changed. I see it in his eyes and I believe in him. I'm going to be married once in my whole life and that's the way I'm going to look at it. I don't WANNA lose him. I really don't but friends and coaches which is worried about the influence jeff had on Tanya. She started partying and smoking cigarettes yet. Tanya struggled with asthma her entire our life her training slept Dodie. Teach me and said it just sort of reached a point where Tanya wasn't focused. Her training schedule was erratic so it was very difficult for her to get ready for the ninety two Olympics at the Games in February Tanya was out of shape and late to the party literally while most of her fellow skaters arrived in Albertville in late January Tanya showed up only three days before the competition started when she got there. She had problems with her equipment. One of her skate blades broke broke off. Tanya later said that the replacement blade was reattached at the wrong angle affecting her ability to land her jumps cleanly which meant. She didn't land her triple axel. Not only did she miss out on Olympic gold. She didn't even place in the medal. Range walking away fourth ironically. Nancy Kerrigan overtook Er for the bronze medal foreshadowing of the close rivalry that would develop between the two women over the next few years but for Tanya what should have been the triumphant pinnacle of the greatest skating season of her life instead became her greatest disappointment as Portland reporter. An Schadt said if you don't win the gold in skating you are an afterthought afterthought so forth feels like four hundred. Tanya returned home defeated but determined women to keep skating. She approached her former coach. Diane Rawlinson and asked her to resume their training. She wasn't ready to give up on her dreams. Dreams of Olympic gold yet while the Olympics are typically held every four years. The cycle of games shifted in the early nineties. After in Nineteen ninety-two the committee started staggering the winter and summer competitions. While the next Summer Games would be held in nineteen ninety six the next winter enter Games would be in nineteen ninety four which meant that. Tonya harding had a second shot at greatness. She had one more chance to to make history. Land Triple Axel on the world stage and walk away with the gold. That one thought consumed her for the next two two years she had to redeem herself and she wasn't going to let anything or anyone stand in her way. Thanks again for listening to sports criminals. We'll be back next week with part a two of Tonya. Harding will see how the competition between Tanya in Nancy Kerrigan intensified in the months leading up to the nineteen ninety. Four Games As both women jockeyed for the gold medal will also cover the dramatic attack on Nancy. Kerrigan and explore the evidence for and against Tonya. Harding's things alleged involvement. "Sandra luko who skated with Tanya as a child described an incident. She witness personally in the net-bursting thirty for thirty documentary. The price of gold. She said during the skating competition petition. I was in the bathroom and Tanya and her mom came in their Tanya was having some issues and Mrs Harding just lost her temper and hit Tony repeatedly repeatedly with a hairbrush. It was very very very upsetting to me. Sandra only eleven at the time was determined to protect her friend she approached Diane Rawlinson told her she was calling child protective services. But Diane convinced her not to do it because of course it. Diane was already painfully aware of what was going on. Levinas abusive habits were apparently an open secret in the Portland Skating community but everyone also knew that if CPS got involved and remove Tanya from the harding home her skating career would be over. Aw figure skating is essentially a white collar sport or less generously a snob sport. It's incredibly expensive An time-consuming loan paid for equipment. Ice Time private lessons costumes. Competition entry fees travel to competitions and more. She drove Tonya to the rink. Every morning for practice then drove her to school then drove herself to work. oftentimes for a double shift in in a nineteen seventy-six interview Albert harding estimated that it costs two hundred twenty five dollars a month for five year. Old Tania's lessons in two thousand eighteen eighteen. That would be over a thousand dollars a month just for rink time. In the harding's were not wealthy. People they struggle to pay their bills and were evicted several times over back rent. When Tonya reached the competition level in her early teens the cost burden tripled to come up with with the money? Lavonia maxed out credit cards worked multiple jobs and collected donations Tanya recalled combing roadsides with her mom tom collect bottles and cans for refunds Lavonia dressed Tanya inner competition outfit for School Picture Day so they could use the photos in place place of professional headshots. Every single dollar went into skating sometimes even over food Portland reporter and Schadt. It said that a lot of the time Tanya was skating on an empty stomach Lavonia made a huge investment asman in her daughter and she expected equally large returns. She had the example. Right in front of her with America's Sweetheart Dorothy Hamill Hamel who won gold medals at both the nineteen seventy six world figure skating championships and Olympics soon after she was a spokesperson for Ford and clairol she became the featured star of the ICECAPADES. So in Livonia is wants wants. Tanya was an Olympian. She'd get so many endorsement deals the whole harding family would be taken care of for the rest of their lives. This was their ticket to a better life and so- Lavonia pushed and pushed and screamed and slapped and beat Tanya all in the name of protecting her investment but in pushing her daughter to be the fiercest physical competitor she left her emotionally stunted and vulnerable vulnerable. The abusive dynamics of the relationship taught Tanya two things first that it was acceptable to use violence to get what you want and second that love is conditional. She was only worthy of affection if she was the best so if Tanya wanted to be happy if she wanted to be loved she better be the best no matter the cost no matter the pain.

Mariah Bell, Nancy Kerrigan And Skating discussed on KSFO Morning Show with Brian Sussman with Katie Green

"But now here we have the US figure skater accused of deliberately slashing a rival at the world championships. So here we go again, right? It's taken a few years what to take it over twenty years, but we're back at it. So it American figure skaters been accused of colliding into a sixteen year old Korean rival in the final warm-up session ahead of the opening world figure skating championships in Japan. And that was Nancy Kerrigan after she got jacked in the ne- new figure skating can be so ruthless. Well, you know, think about it. Right. There's a lot. There's a lot on the line. These are all fierce competitors. They probably played hockey at some point. Right. And they work in their whole lives for this. So this is Lim Hyun Soo sustained a gash to or calf as she prepared to compete in the ladies short program at the championships. Her agency her agency, she has an agency. Okay. This is why skating figure skating's at a whole different level. My agency. By agency accused Mariah bell of intentionally injuring me. So again, this echoes the infamous incident involving Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. Now. Now, it not only is her agent, but representatives they have agents and representatives in the world figure skating representatives acclaimed there sufficient ground now to believe that the act was premeditated. Whoa, man. So here's the way, they're reporting it they were in the official rehearsal period. And. Think about this. What kind of a sport is this? They don't have warm ups ever hersal. You've got agents representatives and rehearsals. So is this really a sport come on, folks? I'll bet they're able to nickname themselves to. Allowed in the real world. But in the real world of sports somebody else nicknames, you you don't have agencies and representatives and rehearsals. Maybe your agency gives you your nickname. Okay. So anyway, here's what they say. Limb was slowly skating on the edge of the rink after completing her turn Mariah bell who was scheduled to hers after Lim suddenly kicked and stabbed Kim's calf. Our limbs calf with their skate, blades kicked and stabbed. Well, those those figure skates do have those little like t- things on the very front. That could hurt. That's right. Now. Mariah bell didn't apologize to limb. After the incident. At instead, continued to rehearse her routine. Ooh. Bad no soul. Kick causes a cut. Well, they're calling it a gash in a slash band aid over it. It wasn't that big. And. I'm looking at that. And didn't apologize. Okay. You think an apology would? Guys, you say excuse me, at least sure if it's accidental accidental. So they believe this is not a minor situation. Gosh, she was treated for injury. She was able later to compete. You're right. It's a band aid. Folks. This is not a slashing gash. Now. She got poked. So she's been accused of bully. Oh, she's been well what they're saying is bell has been bullying her for several months and even launched into a verbal attack

"Dory and then makes judgment calls than than just right throw narrative kind of between the lines and so the the story of tonya harding was that oh she uses redneck like crazy person crazy person so jealous of these things and margo robbie kind of liens into that use the actual interviews the tonya harding she doesn't doesn't sit down necessarily look necessarily the way that margo robbie portrays her but margo robbie as portraying the perception of her into me that the more that's more interesting than just doing it impersonation of someone through this never interesting but the truth is never interest you can enhance the true but there there's a there's a fantastic line in the movie that sort of address is that of like what is truth and i thought that sort of uh as far as those types of movies go where they it is a elaborated version of what are what are you call it like a fantastic version of a reallife does realize boring but i think the tonya harding's or he's actually far more interesting than most of the life because it's insane but they do acknowledge hates movie so some of these are in be wrong because will never know people just inventor untruths and it breaks the fourth wall and kind of plays with the idea that everyone has a different account of the way things went down in those accounts are from thirty years ago and people's memories are are fuzzy them them so it it definitely gives you like a uh exaggerated version of events and i i liked that it didn't really it was trying to humanize tung tonya harding and kind of make us feel sympathetic for her and sir what she went through and how she was discriminated it really didn't make nancy kerrigan much of a character 'cause i was like i was like oh it's probably make her a synthetic character so that way but i thought they did a really good job failure are owns anymore a highly recommend checking out um while i say one more thing rookie like about it uh the they did something is mood that a lotta moves have our time with there's a lot of greed acting without.

"Been listening and portland on cape ham radio for the past six months and i'm wondering there's been a lot of conversation about this up here what you think excuse me of tonya harding and the movie i hanja well it seems like forever the whole tonya harding thing right how long ago was the tonya harding nancy kerrigan deal it's been a very long time so the former figure skater has now been sort of i don't wanna say spoofed as is the focus of that movie of course i tanya and what her life was really like she always denied having any knowledge that jeffco luli her a higher had a hired a man to attack nancy kerrigan before the ninety four us figure skating championships she said she her overheard glue ian others talking about stuff a month or two before the attack but that's it she she said she didn't really know any specifics or any of that kind of stuff just the that there were some sort of conversation right and if you remember what happen harding essentially pled guilty to hindering the prosecution a felony and paid one hundred sixty thousand in fines and served four hundred hours of community service because as a result of that then she was stripped of her 94 title and like i said gosh it seems like four ever and the movie i guess explores a whole bunch of different theme so what do i think of tonya harding i don't think it's relevant now i think that whole thing was insane and crazy and people took sides and some people feel like she was ganged up on and other people feel it was so nutty in crazy an unbelievable that somebody would go after nancy kerrigan for a medal that made absolutely it's as in this one is from bruce who says.

"Actually i remember i was actually come back from the commercial set and at my agent called and he goes hey i let this movie about tonya harding and he took it just in the breath that he took i went through like seven different thoughts away i'm not looking to do another sports by opic no offence to al movie the weeds hit we had done a sports biopic and then it didn't other biopic and seems so long ago and as you know and then he finishes ends with end with magoe robbie playing tonya harding and housing that is the craziest combination i love my goes work as really familiar with it and had dance that she can do drama in comedy is something that i love to work with and i was hoping that maybe this group would reflect that and then i read the script and it was the craziest wildest ride that i've ever written that i've ever read and it didn't i couldn't find anything to compare it to is i kept trying to find out the movies to to look at and obviously to die for was one of the first things i thought of that you know that nicole kidman and gus van sent that has the the gneration and in the interviews with them but it's very linear and they're all telling the same the building on the same story in this this idea these contradictory viewpoints that never get resolved and then on top of that the talking to each other and talking to the audience and it was just and there was a lot of other voiceover going on and the you there was a two hundred fifty six scenes in one hundred ten pages and i actually worried whether it could hold that because this the energy of it was so much better it actually then complicated even more by adding a breaking the fourth wall which wasn't in the script in decided to bring that in as well so yeah i mean it's kind of amazing you know what i've thought about where i try to think about the movie logically it shouldn't work not altogether it should make sense but it is so uh it's just so compelling that so grabbing that goes beyond just the rip from the headline story it's something about watching us the sort of leader.

"Team spirit isn't it i mean it seems like nancy kerrigan and tonya harding were were just opposed from the beginning and that's part of the structure of figure skating competition the thing that i think uh with the reason that she had so much resistance 'cause tanya with such an outsider in the small what they the sport is supposed to look after lewis and almost um has at ballet type quality to it way you're s you know it it it's incredibly physical incredibly athletic that it should look look like it's it's poetry and tanya style was not that she was very aggressive where the style very physical with it and with outside of the convention she liked to skate easy topic wild thing and and these with these conventions that the skating federation just wasn't happy with and it didn't bode well for them york's one of the questions i had greg about about this film is you have these very realistic apparent interviews with the characters with tonya harding there with her husband uh cetera um were those actually i mean they they seemed so realistic at the time and yet they're enacted of their actors play those parts to what extent with those based on actual interviews with a tonya harding and her exhusband for example a lot of a lot of that dialogue is from the actual in india stephen so the documentary steven rogers out the ryder on this uh thirty thirty um and going for gold and was about tonya harding and he was immediately fascinated by it instead of the search for truth and the play the role of the media and so heat on his own dime tracked down tonya harding in portland and flew up that and sat down for two days and interviewed a and ended with such a fascinating interview that then he decided to go on find jeff glue weights and the two of them having spoken in 25 years many and if you'd jeff and you know found these contradictory points of view so a lot of their stories at almost verbatim in the film and then there's embellishments of costs and and then stuff that we have pulled from you know interviews over the decades that they've done so um you know and then sir.
