"I knew it because I think this is the one that uses the four player connect, right? Maybe this is before that. Yeah, which is the ad on the next page. And yes, satellite. I played a lot of this as my dad. He's a big football fan. And it's got a cool, it's a bird's eye view, but the field is like diagonal. So you run, that's that you run diagonally up and down the screen. It's pretty cool. Yeah, very cinematic. Whole ad for the NES satellite. Oh, go back to that satellite. I just feel like it feels so off brand for the NES, the logo. It's that same. Actually, on the device, it's that same font, but it's red, like you would expect on the NES. But this like pink and yellow looks so weird. So cool. More games are a device is so NES though. Oh yeah. And it looks like it's line of sight, wireless, which is the worst thing ever at the time. Yeah. I wonder why it was wireless. Just make one more cable going to the console, right? It was just hip, cool. It's cool. They made one that was wired. Did they? Okay. Yeah, there's two iterations of the four player setup. This is the satellite that didn't have the wire, then they had a I think it was called the four player connect. I have to look it up. There's a whole issue of Nintendo power about it. The most boring issue. It was definitely the age where any sort of remote or IR control was just the coolest thing ever. Remember, when I was a kid, we had to get off the couch and turn a dial to change the channel. That's right. A couple of games, I'm sure Sam is familiar with wheel of fortune junior and jeopardy. Jeopardy junior yeah, those are funny. Yeah. Very easy versions of those. Two page spread on the chess master. From high-tech expressions, I just like good lord, game tech. Yeah. That could have been intentionally included because people knew that families were going to theaters. Yeah, maybe that's why. And then a spread for a Game Boy, and Tetris. I like this one. Oh yeah, well, yeah. So first of all, a drawing of a TV and the NES with an arrow pointing to the Game Boy. They don't know what we're supposed to do. How can we explain what this Game Boy is all about? Because there were little tiny crappy TVs all over the place at the time. They have to indicate that it's a whole NES in there. So cool. Wow. And go back to that ad. This is just an house out for Nintendo power. This page 20. I just love white. So they show this kid. His name is apparently Jeff Benson. He's 15 is how he's our skateboarding and rock and roll. Favorite game Super Mario Brothers two and his secret is Nintendo power magazine. Why is his left eye all pixelated like that? Also. Why is that 15 year old 25 years old? I feel like we need to find this guy. If anybody knows Jeff Benson, please. Justin is Jeff Benson big Tony style. Yeah. Probably. That's also my favorite issue of Nintendo power. To be a pro, you have to read DuckTales one. The duck does one? Yeah. Clash of demon head, that was a rental for me. I think a game I found a little bit obtuse and hard to figure out a couple sports games. No idea how to play that one. Couple sports games goal and hoops, I didn't play these, but I would have been impressed with the giant sprites. And then again, I definitely played shadowgate. And oh yeah, go back. I love some shadow git was originally a PC game, ported NES, so to illustrate this, they have a computer mouse. And a red arrow pointing to the NES controller. I love that. And computer mice were not common in 1990. Yeah, I mean, yeah. That computer mouse looks a lot like a mouse. Yeah. Atari ST look into. Stealth ATF, and I love how they show you how you can do a barrel roll with this. But the screens look so bad because it's just a big block of blue and a big block of brown covering up the whole screen. Yeah, this is how you do. A barrel roll. I really love the old Activision logo because it was designed to show that your console could show that many colors. Yep. Remember apple's logo that was like when it was like that too. It was really cool. Also, yeah, yeah. Rainbows. Faster quest, marble madness. I can't believe they're pushing marble madness on the NES in 1990. It was pretty ubiquitous then I remember playing it at school on Apple twos, which is kind of around everywhere. Everything. That's true. Two base spread on Super Mario Brothers three, of course, that's the wizard was a whole advertisement for that in the first place. And then iron sword, which is I hope obviously wizards of warriors two, but on this whole page, there's no mention of wizards and warriors. It even says, this is one sequel. You won't want to miss. But it just never says what it's a sequel to. A sequel to what? Yeah. But they mentioned malkil, but just nothing else. Yeah. Knuckle has returned. You know that? Gross. When the disgruntled Atari employees split off and formed Activision, they partially named their company to try to be listed in phonebooks and directories ahead of Atari. And then acclaim did the same thing to be listed ahead of Activision. To see, yeah. Look at that great boss under spells. I love that box. I said like a lava monster thing. I love it. Yeah, and it's face like moves around on the screen. This game's a little confusing compared to the first one because it's like a little bit open ended, but I loved it. I owned it. Cool. They did squeeze a classified information in here. We have a tip for ninja gaiden, Zelda two, how to get like infinite experience and whereas in palace 5. And then the fantastic. Yeah. And then the right order to take on the bosses in mega man two. That one's from agent three 17. Is that the correct? You can switch to these up. You can do metal man first. I was gonna say, I would have done metal man. Really good metal blades. But airman is technically a pushover, but his level is really difficult. So we've got some choices to make there. Yeah. Abducts, snakes revenge, super off road, another arcade port. Double dragon two, the power glove. I have to read the copy on the power glove ad.

"You go. Mine, no. Enemy of mine, yes, that's gonna be mine. Enemy mine. It has like a rubber suit alien and a guy and I think it's just like a on the cover. It's great. Yeah, Dennis Quaid. Dennis Quaid, yeah, who was in, you see the one in inner space? Yep. So at the beginning of ant man and the Alamo theater, they always show like related topics that showed a bunch of miniaturization movies. And they showed a bunch of stuff from inner space and it was really fun to review that. I was like, I don't remember every aspect of that movie, but immediately comes back when I watch. Interspace is great. Joe Dante, director of gremlins and piranha piranha and the burps. Okay. Not part of 3D. Okay, that brings us to video game 20 questions. Our suggestion this week comes from baker, an almost 40 year old from nearby, Greenville, South Carolina. I don't know why he says he's just nearby Greenville. I don't know what that means. I was going to say everybody's nearby something, though. Yeah. That's true. Let's the questioning begin. Did this game come out in the 80s or 90s? No. Is it on switch? No. How else is this kid playing it? You heard me say almost 40 year old, right? Oh, I thought you said almost four year old. I don't think you've ever gotten an email from someone who's younger than before that you know of. Maybe a little Tony style email. I hope so. Is this game on a PlayStation platform? Yes. Probably PS two. Is this an exclusive? Yes. I want to why probably PS two. The only thing we know is that it's not 80s or 90s. I don't know, I just got a feeling, man. Okay. It's the dart board version of 20 questions. What did you just ask, Sam? Oh, it's an exclusive. PS PS two. We don't know for sure that. Is it a PS two exclusive? No. Rip. That is 5. Is it a PS3 exclusive? No. What the heck? Is

"With the phone. I feel like the end like our games is one of the best. It feels like them get themselves like a score at the end of their own. Ten out of ten just as good as metroid primary master. Our game is one of the best. Sniper strike 3D secret elite mission warfare ghost squad. Our fake Chase Bank there. Yeah. I want to see, can we go back to the first screenshot? Yeah, one more, one more over right there. Should we kill the robbers that have a blue briefcase? Nope, only the ones with the red briefcases, please ignore the other hours. Great. Cool. Okay, that was Nintendo. Seal of quantity. Let's check in with listeners. Hey, listeners. Remember, you can always reach us at the email address. Game scoop at IGM dot com. Just like big Tony style. Big Tony style. In a minute since we've heard from big Tony style, congratulations on welcoming little Tony style into the world recently. Oh yeah. Papa Tony style. He says with the recent shadow drops of Hi-Fi rush and metroid prime remake in the Game Boy and GBA releases. Most people seem pretty excited about it myself included. I find myself in a position where I went out, snap purchased or downloaded all of them. But I've only started to play through of minish cap. Thanks in part to time spent tending to little Tony style. That said, they seem to be benefiting from dropping out of nowhere and it makes me wonder if publishers are taking notice and this may be a trend we start to see more of in the future. Do you prefer the out of nowhere shadow drop or do you like early announcements that allow you to track a game's development cycle to build a pipe? What would be your ideal timeline from announcement to release? Good question. That's like, do you know how bad it sucked after review metroid? In the shortest time span possible because there's no length of time to evaluate it. It just has to get it up, get it up, get it up. That's no fun at all. Same thing. I like is it fun to cover it in any other way? From a guide standpoint or any other thing we do. It's really fun as a fan though. I have a unique take on this, which is, I strongly dislike Nintendo being like, oh, are we going to make another Mario game? I don't know. We don't have any announced projects that are Mario. And I've mentioned this on the show before BioWare being like, yeah, we're making another mass effect and we're making another dragon age. And you'll hear from us in 5 years. But yeah, we're working on it. I actually really respect that of like, I feel like that's an opportunity for them to have their cake and eat it too, or they still get to have the big bombastic hyped reveal of the game without literally in some cases lying to people of like, no, we're not working on it, and then it's revealed next month. And it's like, well, okay, I don't appreciate that. So I like the very, very early announcement, and then hold it as long as you want. And then when you have something cool to show off, show that off. I like kind of the cadence that Nintendo has gotten into this generation with the exception of tears of the kingdom and metroid prime four. It feels like generally speaking, they'll release a game within a year of announcing that game. I feel like there's been very few exceptions to that in this generation. And I like that. I feel like they give themselves enough time to sort of show off games and for people to get adequately hyped in most cases. In some cases, it has felt like maybe there's almost too many games coming out from them and they haven't quite given them the focus that they need. But I think the single announcement to release perfect window, I think I've seen maybe ever for myself was the we're talking about metroid a lot this episode. So the metroid dread announcement to release. It was a very short time period. It was announced in June released in, I think October. And so that's like what? Like four months? Nobody knows. That's great. And they really promoted the heck out of that game. And I didn't get like too tired of it. It was enough time for me to get super excited and for people to learn about the game and it was the bestselling metroid games, but it had the switch bumps. That wasn't necessarily the reason. But for me, that was like a perfect amount of time, 'cause then that on the other side of the spectrum, there's something like Final Fantasy 16, which you always assume is going to come at some point eventually. But you know, I've been waiting for that game since Final Fantasy 15. And I've been talking about that game since Final Fantasy 15, and it feels like I've had that game on my mind for so long. And now that it's coming out in four months, it's just like, is it? Is it really? You know? But I don't know. It's always just weird. We don't know a lot about it. The worst case scenario is if something is announced, then it has to get canceled or if something really bad happens to its development like metroid prime for where they just restarted. So I think there are some downsides to the really long tail but an example for me would be perfect art. Like they announced that and then just nothing for years. There's been some E three press conferences that have done everything you're going to see is going to be out in the next year. And that's always kind of like hype. It's like, oh, because it's not stuff that's like years and years off, some companies have done that before. That's always good. And then there's, I guess, Xbox of that last year with their showcase. And they're like, everything will be out. Within a year. And we're getting close to that year. And starfield doesn't have a release date yet, so I don't know. Yeah, okay, I guess, but at least to making their if something's delayed, whatever. It happens. But they're making an honest effort to try to it's stuff on the near horizon. For sure. For sure. And I like those because Nintendo seems to have been doing that a lot recently too. Their last direct, they said almost everything. Would be first half of this year.

"The only one I can remember off the top of my head is that, yeah, sword outsold shield by a lot. But usually the first does. Something that fascinates me, circling back to what you were just talking about, Sam. People don't want to trade in their games. They have these Pokémon. They can trace back their origin to. I worked on a feature worked on. But Callie did all the work, but Callie playing that kind of tag team to feature many, many years ago. So you can have Pokémon from the Game Boy Advance, like Pokémon ruby, or whatever, from the GBA. And that Pokémon can be traded all the way through various link cables and Pokémon banks and other things into now into modern day Pokémon. And it's the same one that you've leveled up and as it's same stats and that could have been with you. I don't know how many years now, but over 15 years. And that's unprecedented, right? And we made a chart on IGN that was like, so to get the GBA Pokémon into the DS, you had to put the DS cart in and the GBA card at the same time. And then you could transfer that Pokémon into the DS version. And then the DS version had this thing called Pokémon transporter and then later Pokémon bank that could get them into the three DS game. And there's always been a method to carry forward your pokedex. Into perpetuity. And even though I'm not a fan of these games, I'm just a deeply fascinated by that. And I find that really cool and interesting and the continuity there. And then it also, I really puts game freak in a bind because then they have to, when their games move to 3D, they have to 3D model all of them, right? There's 1500 of them now. So the debt that they take on with each new generation of Pokémon only gets bigger and bigger. Well, Nintendo issued a soft apology for the performance issues on the software update. And the software updates. Which were evaluating today. I'm really curious about what it patched up so far. Yeah. Damon, I wanted to circle back to big Tony styles question real quick. Oh yeah, thanks for thanks to Miyamoto San for keeping in touch with us. Yeah. Happy holidays. We have a son. We appreciate it. I am probably not going to be playing anything else over the holidays because the only game I play now is factorio. I looked at my steam stats, I don't know how this is possible. I have played 75 hours of that game over the last two weeks. Oh my gosh. And that's not like that's very out of character for me. Like video games are imbalanced with TV shows and other stuff I want to do. I think it's been my way of dealing with like Black Friday's trash is just lording over these factorials, one of those conveyor belt games where you make iron and then you conveyor belt the iron over there to make another thing and then make another thing. And build this big factory. And I just, I played that game, I don't know, 6 or 7 years ago, like a long, long time ago, and it's got its claws in me so deep. I'm so hooked. And I am probably going to play as soon as this podcast is over. I know that's kind of random, but I don't know. I finally have my own office with a PC and I can close the door and it's a heck of a game by it at your own peril. Is it only on PC? Yeah. Well, no, it just came out on switch. Oh, wow. Interesting. I'm going to go back to big Tony styles question two and say that I think the riddle subplot in God of War is really good. The riddle subplot. Yeah, a riddle is told at one point. I remember, I remember that. Oh, yeah, right. Then what's his name? Mimir starts asking riddles of Kratos repeatedly and it's a little bit of an arc that interstitial dialog section screen. Yeah. Okay, this is the holiday two 1006 episode of official Xbox magazine with gears of war on the cover. World's first review, and then it says PS3 crushing brilliance. We weren't wrong. We weren't wrong at the time. I'm a little surprised. This is an Xbox magazine. Why is it even mentioning PS3? Well, you know, it's a little antagonistic, but there's history mentality. You pick on the big guy. Well, the 360 would not be the underdog for very much longer. That's true. It's funny because now Ryan is often a moderating voice when we're talking about console wars. It's great. I'm always like, Ryan, let's use this headline. He's like, no, no, no, no. That'll be flame people. I'm looking at this and I'm looking at the 25 reviews at the bottom and I'm thinking, did I review Rainbow Six Vegas? I guess we wouldn't find out because it's been a pseudonym? I definitely didn't use didn't review gears of war. I reviewed gears two and three, but not the first one. Okay, okay. They also have a holiday gift guide and then a feature on whether or not 2007 will be the best gaming year ever. Oh, we were right about that one too. It's a good one. Look at that. 2007 is one of the all time great years. It's true. Yep. Oh, and 25 reviews includes three games from Burger King. Oh yeah, I love that. You know him. I remember the day I went to Burger King to get them. There is a two page ad for Rainbow Six Vegas and I included it because I just love these two there's two games so much Vegas in Vegas too. I think it's a little bit sad for me that now Rainbow Six is exclusively a multiplayer only game. Well, what's insane to me is that ubisoft this Rainbow Six was such a big franchise. Obviously it started on PC, it was a big deal there. And then Rainbow Six three really blew up on the original Xbox and was actually one of the first huge successes on Xbox Live. It came in on a year into Xbox Live. It wasn't there at launch, but then Vegas comes along on the 360. Again, brilliant game, huge success. They do Vegas two and like a year. They turned around the single pretty fast. And then Rainbow Six disappeared for like, I don't know, what was it 8 years until siege in 2015? It's crazy that ubisoft had this gigantic franchise with such momentum to it and they just kept like starting up new Rainbow Six projects and like they just weren't getting traction and they kept canceling them and it's wild to me when you look back at the history of Rainbow Six. In between Vegas in between licensed game no. They owned it.

"War one for sure. Yeah. The big cover story is the world first reveal of gears of war one. Is that cool? That'll be fun to flip through. But first, some general housekeeping next week is The Game Awards. They're happening Thursday, December 8th, 4 p.m. Pacific, 7 p.m. eastern, and along with the awards, there's always a bunch of big announcements, new trailers, new games revealed, and you're gonna be able to watch all of that on IGN, along with our exclusive pre and post show coverage. So please be excited for that. Oh, we're looking at it right now. That's on the B roll tayo. Impressive. That's next week. Thursday, the 8th game awards watch it on IGM. So let's begin this week before we hop into our magazine. Let's begin with a listener mail. So let's go ahead and check in with listeners. Hey, what's nice? Listen, you remember you can always reach us at the email address. Game scoop at IGN, just like, oh, big Tony style. Oh, big Tony style. Big Tony style says, we are just one month away from wrapping up 2022, but I feel like this has been one of the most bizarre gaming years of my life. The highs were high with the likes of eldering and God of War, but I feel like the year was marred with delays, long stretches of no significant significant releases. You are not wrong in Tony style. That said, there was still more than enough to play, so much that I haven't been able to play mini games I want to like Mario plus rabbids. Tactics over reborn and bayonetta three to name a few. I'm curious as the year comes to a close. What games will you try to finish up in the coming weeks and what are some notable games you likely won't get around to? So as everyone else still working their way through, got aboard ragnarok. Yes. Still, yeah. Spend time trying not to rush, I have a quest breaking bug I encountered and I just have to maybe wait for a patch to finish that quest. It's not a main cost side quest. But it's about getting these dogs in a cage and the dogs just think there's an invisible wall there. And I've consulted everybody who's beat that so far. And they're like, you're doing it right, but they just won't go in that cage. It's the worst. Will you just, can you just move on and leave that side quest behind? It's a side quest, but I'm a 100% at least the favors in regions. So it's driving me a little bit crazy, honestly. This is a cool area. Justin, I finished it. Oh, there you go. There you go. So what are your final summary no spoiler thoughts? Oh, man. It's hard to talk about it and not spoiler terms because my enduring impression of it is kind of story related in characterization and this is not a spoiler but just speaking very generally the story kind of goes exactly where you expect it's going to go, but how it gets there is very interesting and then it also, I don't know, it also leaves you on your toes and ends in a way. It's hard to talk about this vaguely, but I found that it's very, very satisfying and very good and it's not like, oh, what a twist I didn't see that coming and yet you're not going to see it coming. Like really interesting stuff happens. I was very satisfied and thought it ended on just an excellent note. I was also satisfied just in, again, we're avoiding spoilers. But was you agree? I don't really know where the series goes from there. Yeah, it's really interesting, right? This storytelling for like big blockbuster video game is the last of us is really kind of a risk-taking game. And so it's got a word in a lot of ways. So Ryan you're still working with your God of War, anything else, you're trying to wrap up before the end of the year? You know, I am really eager to dive into high on life, which is an Xbox exclusive that we're getting in less than two weeks, I think, from today as we record this on December 1st. So, but I know I got to get through, got a war first before I can get to that. And then there's, I gotta say, I shot a video about The Witcher three next gen the other day. Yeah. And that's a game that I purposely didn't spend more than just a couple hours with it back in 2015 because I was honestly just, I knew I'd never finish it, being a 150 hour plus game. But I don't know, man, I really love the Netflix show and I kind of want to play more of it now that it's gonna kind of come back to us as a as a fresh with a fresh coat of next gen polish on it. But again, I have no designs on finishing that game, but I do want to spend some more time with it. So yeah, it's kind of, we waited all year for games, particularly if you're an Xbox guy. And now it's just pouring video games right at the end of the year. I'm still trying to finish up return to monkey island. It's longer than I expected. It's actually a pretty finish it, because a, I want to talk to you about how the ending goes. And number two, it's just the way it ends is, I don't know, I don't want to Justin I want to be where I spoilers, but it's a beautiful conclusion and I hope you'll see it through, Damon. I'm wrapping up the golden keys. I think I've got all those. You got some ways to go. Oh my God, it already feels so long. There's that. And then I want to play vampire survivors, which is something Justin has been, you're going to love it. You're going to love it. It's on game pass. Check it out. Yeah. So I need to do the vampire survivors Callisto protocols out tomorrow. I'll definitely play that. And then the only other thing that I want to try to wrap up is I haven't played neon white yet, and I've heard lots of great things about that. It's coming to come into other consoles, I believe. Yeah, PlayStation, I don't know the time frame on that. We just gave a ten to. I feel like we all need to try that too. Yeah, I put in an hour or two, and it is it's outstanding. I just don't know how I'm going to find time to play it. And yeah, it's like if you need something completely different from any other video game, is a good choice for that. On game pass too, so accessible. It's definitely one I want to try.

"Okay. This is the 700th episode of game scoop. Speaking of multiples of 700. Shigeru Miyamoto turned 70 years old. Yesterday? Multiples of 700. What? It fits. Multiple 7. 70 years old. Yeah. I guess for a long time, I've been aware that he's been in the 60s. I didn't realize he was, you know, he's 70 years old now. I checked. This is very footage. I'm so happy with this footage. This is wonderful. Jared, maybe you know this, you know what the normal retirement age in Japan is? Typically 60, although that varies between people, 60 is kind of the accepted norm. And here he is 70, still working every day at Nintendo. They keep on this pipe. He can't get out. He has to stop traveling to work on his bicycle, but he gets to use this pipe now. Well, they built the pet he just works it's a work pipe that takes it from his house. I know why they got him off that bike. The number of people that were hit on their bicycles by cars and my neighborhood. In the brief span of time, I live there was ungodly. And the neighborhood around Nintendo headquarters in Kyoto is just as twisty and turning. I think they were just like one day that the odds were just going to run out and they were going to lose Miyamoto to a bike accident. It was just like, you know what, dude, no, you just can't do it. If you ride a bike in Japan long enough, you will be struck by a car. Ghoulish predictions from Jared petty. The Nightmare Before Christmas himself. Obviously, Miyamoto is a big fan of the show. I think it's kind of an open secret secret that Miyamoto is big Tony style. So happy birthday. Happy birthday, Miyamoto San. And I thought it'd be fun to have a little fun experiment to talk about. What is his best work on every Nintendo console? And so the study with the NES, you know, that's kind of everything began. And you got to start with our kids. Well, what's his best work in our game?

"At IGM dot com, just like here we go. Big Tony Stark. Big Tony style says for this year's episode of game spook. I'm curious what type of candy and the young omega cops trick or treat bags was your favorite. All right, blood were what was your favorite? Here's the thing. I'm not a big candy fan anymore, but I loved participating in Halloween's those very cold halloweens in Iowa City. Those very temperate ones in Phoenix, Arizona. I always liked getting caramel apples. Now I'm just kidding. Those are the worst. We're getting those. Would you get caramel apples? Oh, yeah. I have people with bags of popcorn, caramel apples. What? Brownies. Unwieldy thing to be giving out and carrying in your bag. That would be always wrapped in plastic, but like a full on caramel apple. It's a thing. Yeah, those are the grossest ones. You know, I like peanut butter. So I think I liked pieces a lot, and I was heavily influenced by pieces because of ET. Yeah, I mean, in the peanut butter cups. And then strangely those, they have names. Somebody here will know what they are. But strangely, those only Halloween time, taffy's that are basically peanut butter. They're like always in a black or orange wrapper. I think they're kind of like Mary Anne's or something like they have like a lady's name. I don't know those. They're just like so it'd be like a little brown salt water taffy, right? But it's peanut butter flavored and they're really yummy. I've also always been a Reese's peanut butter cups. Mary Jane peanut butter kisses. There you go. Peanut butter kisses. I've never heard of them before. Okay. What did you type in the game? I Halloween. Women's name. I know, no, I typed Halloween taffy peanut butter. There you go. Yeah. But yeah, Reese's cups too were like always an honor to get, right? Especially if they're the full sized ones. It was always amazing. And then I distinctly remember Halloween being the only time of year in which I ever had things that like I generally don't like because you just eat it anyway, right? So like baby Ruth, like I would never get a baby Ruth, you know? But haven't met Halloween and be like, oh, this is a baby Ruth. Yeah. So that was that's my big foray into even knowing what all candy is is how. Joe Biden doing a great job with our B roll here. Tina, how about you? I'm also a peanut butter and chocolate fan. So they don't make them anymore. I don't think. I think they tried to bring them back and it wasn't quite the same recipe because that's the typical story, but not rage as far as. Not rage. Absolutely favorites, yeah, 'cause it's chocolate peanut butter and peanuts in there. Like chocolate with nuts, combined into some kind of yummy candy bar. So those were my favorites, but once upon a time, I ate way too many one Halloween, and I just could not eat it again after that. And then they discontinued it. So I ruined it for myself. So nutrition is also Reese's. It is, yeah. And they're still available, Tina. You can get a big box of them from Amazon, but maybe yeah, so I think they had discontinued it brought it back. I'm pretty sure that was the cadence of how things went down. Introduced in 1994. Look at that. Justin, how about you, little Justin? What was his favorite candy? Yeah, I mean, I guess I'm a little bit of a basic bitch when it comes to treats because just like Snickers. I think a Snickers ball is like the perfect candy bar. Like everybody else chocolate and peanut butter is like such a match made in heaven. And so Reese's are also one of my favorites. They don't make a fun sized version of it. So I never got them at Halloween, but my favorite candy bar of all time is the watch McCulloch. Hell yeah. I'm so happy you brought that up. I remember those ads so well. What you would call it. Yeah. And I probably haven't had a watch on call it in a decade, and I looked, and you can get 36 of them for 36 bucks on Amazon. But I feel like dollar each, wow. But I feel like I've reached a low point in my life. Buying, if I'm buying like a $40 box of just full sized candy bars just to just have around, like, that already feels like that's a bridge too far for me. I've noticed nobody's mentioned any sort of hard candy so far. And I've never been a big fan, although blow pops are kind of fun. Those are kind of cool, so it's your old pops or not. But I think at the time that I was really doing a lot of Halloween, nerds were like new. Oh, really hit. Really? Yeah. I liked what are they called? Candy corn. When I was a kid, I wouldn't eat candy. I wouldn't eat candy corn today, though. Yeah, it's so sweet. The device of one. Yeah, and what about the candy corn pumpkins? So what's the worst everybody's gotten though? You can have fun with your advertised candy corn. This is insane. I've never seen anything for candy corn. I love raisinettes, though. And that's a pretty good. Pencils. We've got pencils. Nickels. Oh. Wait, actual pencils? Yeah. Nickels? You'd get nickels? Oh yeah, yeah, I remember getting coins. And he's a Nichols. And so I was in like a little small neighborhood in New York, so it was like everybody kind of knew each other in this particular space when I was in elementary school. And one of our teachers would hand out pennies every year. We liked her very much. Smarties are bad. Yeah, I don't care about smarties. Yeah. I like to observe my two daughters. There are 5 and 8 and they trade candy, which is cute. That's like a pastime, right? It's like trading and getting what you want. Except the 8 year old completely fleeces the 5 year old. And then it's one of those parenting moments or I have to decide whether to intervene or not or I'm like, you're not being very fair. And she's like, would she agreed to it? She said, yes, I'm like, yeah, but she doesn't know what she's agreeing to. And I go back and forth between being like, that's mean and said, and then like, no, that's part of the big sibling little sibling dynamic. So what's an example of she's learning those life is not fair? A fleece trade? I mean, I don't have an example. She knows what her sister's favorite is and she'll do she'll do a lot of like three for one trade. I'll give you one of this thing that's your favorite. And then it ends up with like big sister just having everything. That's how it is every time. Nobody mentioned gummies either. I think there's like gummy worms. Sour patch and gummy Wimbledon looking pretty popular. But I always liked it when they were like chuckles or like big thick ones. Oh, here's another bad one. Wax lips. Oh yeah. Yeah, that may be the worst. Don't even understand. And then also the wax bottles of, I guess you would call it soda or pop wherever you're from. But yeah, they had a little sippy thing of like liquid in them. In a store in 2022, I saw someone selling candy cigarettes. Oh, I love candy cigarettes. That's so cool. And then they still come, like weddings where people get them because just like everything we've mentioned, you can get everything on Amazon, basically. And some of them are packaged to look like kind of like cool like, we'll have like Mexican tarot cards or something. I don't know, something like that on the cool. But then some of them are just look exactly like marlboros and camels and everything with some generic thing. Those are like the oldest ones. It's like crazy. And there's two types. There's ones that you can just like are chalky, like you can chew. And there's another type that I remember from being a kid, which I don't think are around, or maybe they are. But there are paper tube with bubble gum inside. And if you puff on them, if you blow on them, they blow out powdered sugar from the tube. So it looks like it smoke. What it's had to be alive. Yeah, I know. The kids today can just eat real cigarettes. So it's more fun. I used to get those from the ice cream truck that would drive around the neighborhood. Ice cream chuck had candy cigarettes? Yep. They had, they were chalky, but you could blow through those and then, yeah, the powdered sugar would come out. Yeah, yeah, but I can't remember what was in the middle, but I remember the blowing part. And then that's so great 'cause the ice cream man would come and he'd be like, he'd be like, yeah, I'm a, what's your brand? Yeah, exactly. Yeah. You got my flavor instead. On the gummy front, I will say Swedish fish are amazing. I can get down with those. Sam, we have a big league chew kid. Oh my gosh, so much so.

"My wife and I are thrilled. I can't wait to add her. First of all, gamer to the household. He sent in an image in little Tony style, already has a onesie with his little, this nickname on it. That's awesome. That's also a very cool collectibles room. That's super metroid posters pretty sick. Yeah. Congrats to you and your wife. Big tone style. Thank you so much for letting us know BTS. Okay, this is Zeke Zeke Rex and asked what the Callisto protocol and dead space remake both releasing around the same time. For someone who has yet to jump into the dead space franchise, what should I play first? Do I treat them as not even related and completely different games? To which it wouldn't matter which I play first, well that's the reality, Zeke. They are not, I mean, they're only related by the creator. Who's so protocol is actually a pubg game. It's not in the dead space universe. I kid. It's not officially at one point it was going to be. It's no longer in the pubg universe. It was at some point. That's wild. I didn't know that. That was the same development. It is well. I started life as a phage. The pubg universe, too. It's just like. So it's battlefield. Yeah. The thing is these games aren't out. So we don't know. I don't know. It's the most truthful answer to that question, but absent the context of having played these games, I would say, play dead space first because that's kind of a remake of the progenitor, like the one that started it all. And then maybe consider if you want more close to a protocol, is that's like the more modern sort of built from the ground up for 2022 take on that same super spooky on a spaceship formula. I think you should play coastal protocol first because they got there first and they scooped the dead space remake. So sorry dead space remake, you're too slick. I grew up both of them because it is basically the closest protocols basically the last triple-A, one of the only triple-A games left to come out this year, right? There's not really that much left. Got a war. Batman. Oh, true. Well, not bad. Pokémon. Yeah, not that meant. Pokémon Call of Duty. Harry Potter, whatever that's called. That doesn't have a release date. What do you mean not Batman? Does Batman's not in it? That's fine. You can still call it a Batman game. Everybody gets it. If you called it a Batman game and someone bought it because like, oh, it's a Batman game and Batman wasn't in it. I'd be upset. That's all. That girl's in it. She's a bad person. I mean, there's Zelda games. They don't have Zelda in it. I'm pretty sure all four of the other characters that aren't that girl were Batman at some point in the comics. Probably. Yeah. Exactly. Don't forget, Sam, don't forget saints rope. Oh yeah. I stand corrected. There's plenty of triple-A guys coming up this year. Now you're right. You can forget a lot of can forget marvel's midnight suns. Well, isn't that moved away? I got delayed, right? Yeah. Until next time. Exactly. Yeah, it's not making fun of the game. It's just not coming out this year. I thought he was throwing the shady. Nope, not at all. I'd say play Callisto protocol first, if you like it, then check out the dead space game, and then you can use it like, oh, Callisto protocol was kind of a spiritual successor to this, and then you have that context after the dead space. And that's nice. It is going to be very interesting to see how those games both for now. I wanted to point out early in this year I mentioned I picked up this book, the NES endings compendium, it just goes through, it just gives you it's a photographic journal of the endings to NES games, and this is just the games the year is 85 to 88. And the author the author's name, ray Esteban, rates every ending on a scale of one to 5 stars. And I think only one game in this entire book got 5 stars. 'cause most NES endings, the early NES games. Is it buying a commando? Yeah, I would say it's bionic commando. You win. You win. I would give Mario two full perfect score as well. Mario got married two got four stars. Out of 5. Yeah. And it's also interesting. He goes through differences in regions if there are differences between the Japanese and American endings. I'll give Castlevania a 5 out of 5 for the ending with James banana. So gradius has some different endings in the Japanese version, which I thought was interesting. In the first one, you just fly away from the super fortress and explodes and it says congratulations. But in the Japanese version, if you keep going through loops, you get different messages with each loop of the game. Wow. He finished. So in the first loop, it says deeply moved. Let's go to next zone. The second one that says splendid in the third loop it says, it's tough. It's tough. Okay? And the fourth group says, you're amazing. In the 5th loop, it says, I look up to you and finally, if the 6th loop is 6 time you beat the game in a row, it says speechless. Please stop. Let me rest. The other interesting thing about this is that our own Sam has a write up in this book. That's right. The it's as bad as the box art. What? No, they asked you the first NES game you remember beating? Oh, that one. Oh yeah. Yeah. Do you remember your name? Can you share it? Well let me see what my anecdote was. I wrote that a long time ago. Was it one of a mentioned already? Did they come out before 1980? I don't know, was it Mario two? Yeah, that's Mario Brothers two. Yeah, and what was significant about that for me is that I could never beat Mario one. Yeah, that's exactly what you said. Because world 8 three. So hard. I don't even know how hard it for is because I've never even seen it. But yeah,

"It's like, what are you talking about? Let's check in with the listeners. Look at this news. Listeners, remember you can always reach us at the email address. Game scoop at IGN dot com, just like overlord of the superfans, Matt Jones did. Matt writes in to say, I'm a two a, is that a self described title? I united him that title. Many, many years ago. Yeah, he's been writing in almost as long. Maybe longer than big Tony style. He's the original game scoop superfan. Why don't you pause before his name? It's just that's not how you pronounce his name. Okay. Yeah, big Tony style. His name actually has ten spaces in front of it. Matt says, I'm a 2D sonic fan. I love sonic's one through three. I think sonic mania was an incredible continuation of that tradition, so when sonic origins was announced, I was super excited. Then they released the trailer and I was even more excited. Hearing that some of the people who helped to make sonic mania took the lead on these remasters was great. And then they revealed the whole DLC situation. Pretty much all of the DLC is stuff that should 100% be included in the main game. Additional genesis music, camera controls and the main menu, letterbox backgrounds, all those things for $5 or pre order bonus. Ridiculous. Sonic has a lot of goodwill, goodwill from two pretty good movies and sonic mania recently, so I don't know what they were thinking with this move. And it is an interesting and very confusing situation. Whether or not you think the way they're handling is greedy or unfair, it's shouldn't be confusing, knowing how to get all the content in the game. It's just stupid. It's so silly to me that it's $5. It's like they had to make this giant matrix of what comes and what addition just to sell the game for 40 bucks and then sell like a fancier version of the game for $45. It's just charge $45 to put that stuff in the game. The amount of work that they made for themselves just to sell a $5 version of the game. There it is. So I don't even necessarily have an opinion on whatever. Deluxe editions of games have existed for over a decade now. I'm just so baffled by the fact that it's $5 more. But they use little rings to mark the chart. I know. There should be one version that comes with all the rings. Nothing has all the rings. For.

"Sports. Oh yeah, soccer. Star Wars, the Skywalker saga. Well, I was thinking the first Friday stuff, but first party. Strikers is a game. That's true. That's true. Nintendo Switch sports. I forgot about it. I really forgot about that. Part of the Wii series? You guys already said Mario strikers? Yeah. Calendar. I think they have some announcements to make. And there has to be a. Level of lava Lake. How do you say it again? Live alive, yeah. I'm really excited for this. That's super badass. You know, I wonder, we're probably due for an announcement for whatever the Mario team's working on. That's what I was going to say. I would love the Odyssey follow-up. Yeah. And you guys already go ahead, Justin. I don't think that team. I may be wrong. I think it's like that Tokyo team. I don't think I don't think it is a Mario team and the way that the Zelda teams the Zelda team, right? The Mario team, I think, also made donkey Kong jungle beat and some other innovative games. So maybe I'm wrong about that. But anyway, what a talented group with a Nintendo and excited to find out what they've been working on for 5 years. Four years. It's so crazy. I think about this a lot with video games. A place like IGN, like we create content and publish a lot of content on a daily basis. We create it and fire out the door and it's done when we move on to the next thing. I just can't imagine what it would be like to work on something for 5, 6, 7, 8 years of your life. You're just working on one thing. And gives it a 6. Yeah, it's the same. Yeah. Or it's canceled. They're like, you worked on. I worked on a level for 6 months that was cut from the game. Yep. Did we say xenoblade chronicles three 'cause that's a fan favorite though. No, that is a fan favorite. Yeah. And I think we said advance wars. Yeah. Hopefully they've got to delayed indefinitely. Let's check in with the listeners. Hey, listeners. Listen to us. Remember you can always reach us at the email address game soup at ING and dot com just like big Tony styles. Tony style says, over the weekend, I finally got around to watching 2020 ones dune part one. I knew going into it that I would end on a cliffhanger so I had no issues with where things left off. Made me wonder why it isn't explored that often in the video game industry, release games in multiple parts to help shorten development time, given all the delays we see. Might not make business sense for publishers, but it's just a thought I'm curious what your take would be on this idea. So horizon forbidden west. What if they released it in three parts? So like splitting splitting the most recent release into three parts. It's working great for Final Fantasy. I mean, the first part would just be the tutorial, the very long tutorial. Yeah, and that was my point. My first thing that I was thinking too, I think there would be a lot of pushback. You remember the original conversation that happened around when DLC became a thing. I think it would be very similar to the kind of narrative that was happening around the introduction of that as a new format in games. I mean, yeah, I feel like my gut, I feel just as many games do and on cliffhanger notes as movies do. It's not super common in either. I would say, but some do. I don't know. I actually, I didn't finish the first horizon, but obviously the sequel is set up by that game. So Justin, I know you finished it. I haven't finished. I'm in the middle of it. Someone here finished one, you finished one. Yeah. So yeah, does it lead into? This doesn't feel like a cool thing that leads up. Yeah, I totally does. There's a cliffhanger and then it has like a kind of one of the scenes in the next one is like at the side of the last boss fight or I guess I won't go into it. But yeah. It's like directly linked. Well, because they do have like a big reveal in because I read a synopsis so that I was a little bit up to speed for two. But then in two, they take that big reveal from the end of one and kind of play through that. So I guess theoretically, if there's like branches to a story where you have sequels, isn't that kind of the same thing as opposed to Final Fantasy 7 part one part two? Yeah. Well, that's good. There is a difference there between the story just stopping and be like see you in 5 years versus like, you know, the classic art of let's tell a compelling self contained thing that leaves the door open for more. Yeah. Delta was all about the episodic releases. That worked for a while. Yeah. I think you know what's up. You know what's different about that series as opposed to any other video game though, is that you could pick up start those pretty easily. I was just worried about the writing the bike aspect of games like I suck at games if I was seriously worried like I want a weekend without playing tunic and I was like, I am leaving this at a really hard place. That's my exact fear. I do worry about when I come back to tuna. I'm gonna be like what am I doing? I've been swapping between ghostwire and tiny Tina quite a bit and the mechanics are so different and sometimes I forget like let's jump again. I'm actually tweeted about it in the past for another game, the work I was swapping off between a few and I didn't expect that tweet to take off, but I had like designers quote tweeting like video game designers quote training me being like, this is why we need something more universal, which I think is such an interesting debate. Should we have universal programming coded in that way? Obviously some gameplay doesn't lend itself to that way because maybe you have special, you know, it's obviously like a first person shooter and a first person shooter is the best way to comparing on a genre level at the very least. But even then you might have special mechanics that wouldn't directly line up. But I think it's interesting like the comfort that you get with a certain control scheme. It was totally Assassin's Creed going into Red Dead, where the ride the horse button was punch. Yes. That's right, I remember that. Trouble for punching horses and Red Dead. And you'd be like sidling up to your horse outside a saloon. You punch a horse in the butt. It would kick you across the way and people start shooting at you. It was really funny. And also the personal guilt, you know? Like, that's the hardest part. Well, the horse also, there was a similar thing with ghosts of Tsushima, and I kept slashing my horse, my sword, but I don't remember what. That's right. What game was causing confusion there? It might have been the last of us two, I think, came out. The same time. That could have been it, yeah. I mean, it used to be like in the early 2000s, it was chaos with control schemes and there definitely there's not literal standardization now, but you know how to aim down sites in first person shooter. And you know, grenade is going to be mapped to probably left or right bumper. And we have established this kind of common norms of the jump button and interact button in the melee button. And when a game deviates from that, that's when you're like, what? And it used to not be like that..

"It come? It must be like an older game, and then maybe it came to one of those two platforms. The question was, did it come to the original PlayStation or Nintendo 64? And the answer is yes. It's a 90s game. It's probably something weird like lemmings or something, and then they release it on the PS1 eventually. Right, right, right. Well, I mean, our best games of all time doesn't quite track with that either. No. So if we were going with that theory, what would that, what direction would we go? Let's see. Okay. We gotta just go back to the wall. Was this game developed in the United States? Yes. Did it appear on PC? Yes. It's probably like Diablo, right? Something like that. Interesting. Was this like a super critically acclaimed game? Yes. StarCraft two. That was PC only StarCraft one came to the N 64, but it was a they called it StarCraft 64 and it's a slightly different game. I don't know if that would count. It's a borderline. I mean, what's this game made by blizzard? No. Okay. Making really, really good games in the U.S. back there. I'm in a million companies where. Does it have multiplayer? Yes. That's ten. Okay. So I'm multiplayer PC game. It's not earthworm Jim. Well, I don't think there's any multiplayer in that. Did this come out on the SNES or genesis? Yes. Oh man. Okay, so it is earlier. It's not like a StarCraft Y thing. It made in the U.S. really well liked came to 16 bit consoles and then was ported to the latter gen of consoles. There's like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy three type stuff. It has multiplayer in it. It has multiplayer, right? We have that range. Okay, well keeping with the Street Fighter two. Oh, that's really good. Like if it's a fighting game, although this one's American made. But maybe maybe like Mortal Kombat. Is it a fighting game? Is it a fighting game? No. There goes that. Man. Is it helpful to know if it was in arcades? Yeah. Did this game release? Was this game originally in arcade game? No. What if it, what if it's miss PacMan? Again. I know, I know. You had a good one. The license question. We didn't ask that for this round. I can't remember. I don't think we did. We came in? Yeah, let's do that one then. Is it based on a license statement? No. We may have already known that. You can't remember. You hadn't asked that this round. Okay, that is last year. And it's super critically acclaimed and people love it. Okay, that shouldn't be too hard if something's on the super Nintendo, genesis. Is it on? It's going to be like the biggest game ever. Yeah, made in the U.S. not made by blizzard who's one of the western developers making some of the most critically acclaimed games at that time. Although maybe not quite that early, it's like lost Vikings era. I mean, you know, I don't know. Sports games Madden? Like they have to have multiplayer? Is it a sport game? No. And that's 15. Oh boy. Genres left. What's up? Just platformers. And didn't originally appear in arcades. Yeah, platformer maybe. Puzzle games, platformers. Racing, but are there racing games that people care about and the superintendent of genesis? Is the developer still in business? Are they still around? Oh, I'm sorry. Wow, that's tough. And I feel bad that I don't know that. One moment, one moment, one moment. Really, really fast. So it's not Activision. The answer is yes. It's tough when it's developer, though, 'cause, you know, you associate a company like Activision with the game, but some other studio made it. But not a Japanese the developer is around. In the U.S. is it a platformer? No. What else could it be? Yeah, not sports, not in arcade game, not a platformer. Not a fighting game. Not a fighting game appeared across a couple of different generations. I guess probably not a strategy game. You know, we don't, we don't know, we don't know if it's a multi it could have appeared. We don't know that it was on both 16 bit and both next generation. It could be a genesis exclusive. It's just like, yeah, U.S. designed for that. It's very strange. So wait, what was the brain starting to mush as it always does when we do a hundred questions? What was the last game that we got right? Ted tris? Tetris. Yes. So is that the theme that these are all really well liked really well beloved games? We don't know the theme. Yeah, have we earned that hint yet? Well, I think we asked it for this one, right? Yeah, but I mean, I'm trying to figure out what the three games have in common if that helps. I know. Because if there's something else that they have in common, but they're so wildly different, I can't think of what else the common thread would be. Submitted by big Tony style. Yeah, yeah. Or it's like game set Damon played over at Thanksgiving and in his life. Something. So rude. I feel like no one could remember that. Consistently. I don't have anything. I have missed it quest, the Final Fantasy game as a Thanksgiving game. I remember. I always had a Thanksgiving game, I feel..

"This week, Xbox celebrated its 20th anniversary. And as part of that celebration, they surprise launched the multiplayer portion of halo infinite, although it wasn't too much of a surprise because a lot of that speculation leaked out last week. It would have been really cool if it actually were a surprise. But it's still really cool to have happen. I know other people on this show like Sam and Justin are a little bit more bigger halo heads than I am, has anyone has anyone tried it out? Yeah, I downloaded it last night and played all night long. And the only reason I waited that long is because I was away from home. I wasn't home. And so literally, I came home from the airport and started it downloading so that by the time I was it would be like ready to go by the time I was ready for it. It's awesome. I think it's perfect. People have their complaints about the battle pass, but I don't care about that, 'cause I played 3000 matches of halo two before you know anyone had ever heard of battle passes. I think bungie and then three, four, three, and I've probably talked about this on the show before. We're like, halo, any time they changed anything, people hated it. And so they were really they were really kind of sandwiched between the smallest changes to the battle rifle or to character movement or whatever. And the community's furious, then they're also furious about the game not changing in the game being the same. And so they were kind of stuck in a little bit of a tight spot. And I think three four three with halo infinite. They've really pulled off a magic trick and threaded the needle by modernizing and speeding up the overall movement in the pace of play. But they still kept time to kill really high. And so things like positioning and team play and weapon selection, like all that stuff still feels like halo, so they managed to keep it feeling the same, but still modernizing it at the same time. Like I said, it feels like a magic trick. I don't know how they pulled it off, but they totally did. I'm playing on a 120 FPS on my LG oled TV. It's incredible. If I were reviewing the multiplayer, I would give it a ten out of ten after with like I did play for several hours, but only over the course of one evening's play. Right. I mean, it's like, that's so like glowing and enthusiastic and it's free. It's like what? It's crazy. I'm just going to mention that. It's so crazy that it's free to play and early. Yeah, I am hearing lots of really, really good things, Sam, how about you? Well, we'll talk about earning goodwill from community. It released something for free and early. I'd ever happen. It's just more expensive and late. And it doesn't even have to be good. And apparently this is really good. I don't know. I think my time is really past for playing halo. Online, that's probably the most online shooter series I've ever played. I've played so much of it. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, a crew to play with or anything. But I really like to play a single player right now. Thank you. Yep, yeah. I am looking forward to single player. I'm hearing good things about that as well. The main criticism is around the battle pass and the character progression, which I don't care about for a couple different reasons. One, what you get is like I leveled up my battle pass and I got like a new thing like bolt onto my forehead. I'm like who cares about this stuff? And I'm being a little bit me because I know a huge amount of people care about customizing their spine. But that's not something that's important to me. I don't care about getting new shoulder pads and new junk for my Spartan. But the more legitimate complaint is, the way they structure their battle pass is you can play a really hard fought match. It goes into overtime. It's this crazy back and forth. And then you can get nothing for it. Absolutely no progression to your battle pass because you only level up in their next P, when you complete challenges. And the challenge is to get really hard and esoteric. You only have three challenges and one of my challenges is right now is destroy a banshee in a multiplayer match. And half the maps don't have banshees on them. Yeah, yeah. And it's like, so I have two challenges that I can't complete. Well, you know, I can't eventually, but one is destroy a banshee and the other one is going to kill with a maller, which I have never found that weapon on a map. I've never, I haven't found one yet. And so it's like that's two of my three challenge slots are just stuck. And so from a moment to moment gameplay perspective, I literally don't think there's anything I would change, but the meta systems that underpin it all, if someone needs that to be motivated to play it's not enough for them to just kind of have a good time. You're probably a little bit disappointed with the state of infinite multiplayer at the moment. Goodness, gracious. It feels good to play. Well, so just real quick, they actually today announced a couple changes to the battle pass system. So it sounds like 'cause I haven't played yet. I've been busy playing some end of year catch up games. So that's definitely my weekend plan. But from what I understand, they've increased how many opportunities you get for earning XP, how much XP you get. So it sounds like they've addressed it. The changes are still pretty ticky tacky, but they were what they really did is they opened the door to this is the beginning of the dialog with our player base. So it's like they you get a pittance of XP after every match now is basically change that they made. So real quick just for context from our news story, the halo support I'm reading from our new story. The halo support Twitter feed made the announcement saying that players now earn 50 XP towards their battle pass with every match made game played, so that's what you were just talking about. The deck of challenges is also being, quote, updated to serve players of all skill levels as promised XP boosts now lasts for an hour and weekly challenge progression has been reset with players being given this week's ultimate reward. Next week. And then four challenges that saw bugs have also now been fixed. Yeah, the XP boosts being time based. So the way that it works is you get challenges that you have to complete in that multiplayer map. And then after the match is over, you get the XP for them. So it has nothing to do with whether the map was 5 minutes or 20 minutes to play. And but the XP was weren't for a set amount of matches. They were for a set amount of time. And so that just felt bad. If you were playing longer, if you were playing big team battle with a bunch, take way way longer to complete. And so the battle pass needs reworking. It's good that they're listening to players. It's still, it's still not in a great state. Even though they expect release the halo infinite multiplayer this week, they're still calling it a beta apparently. And we have a question about that from big Tony style. Who says what the surprise lantern has multiplayer beta access this week? I'm curious, what is the true definition of beta access and why do companies use this instead of demo? Just seems to be a loose term that gets thrown around in a particular reason. I'm still playing hearthstones beta of battlegrounds pretty much daily for quite a while, even though that's still listed as a beta. Same, day 27. That'll ground has been one of my favorite new modes and hearthstone. Anyway, am I correct that a demo is considered a demonstration of the final project product and a beta means they give the more wiggle room to say like, oh, it's not quite finished yet. We're still tinkering with it. A little bit. A demo is like a slice of a game, we haven't really seen a proper demo in a long time, or they used to be more. Oh yeah. More popular, more regular, where you get like a slice of a campaign, like even a single player game. So yeah, it's beta and like early access, like stuff like that is a little bit more interchangeable where it does give them the leeway. And it's a little bit of like marketing and messaging where you get to say, you know, we haven't quite launched yet. We're getting some feedback from the community, which is exactly what's happening with halo infinite right now. As they make assessments and then on like proper launch date, that should be more representative of the experience as they see it. So for halo infinite particular they mentioned that, you know, they had their technical preview, and that was really helpful for them to make a different judgments advancements, improvements to the game..

"I knew it was coming. I feel like in the lead of delay, the delay. Yeah, exactly. Big Tony style says, over the weekend, I played through Doki Doki literature club. Just hands down, one of the most bizarre games I've ever played without spoiling it, the game takes some weird turns and breaks the fourth wall, it's unsettling ways. By doing so, it didn't create the best gaming experience I've had, but it made one, I will never forget. So I'm wondering, what are some other games you can recommend that broke the fourth wall as an effective game McCann? I mean, undertale is a really perfect example. I don't really have. This is a hard topic to talk about, because you get into spoiler territories so quickly. Well, I'm going to spoil the end of golden accident. At the end of golden axe. Next. As I said, this is the best example. She backs out to a pixelated crappy arcade screen of an arcade. And there's kids standing around playing golden axe. And then the three warriors from the gold next, the heroes might add bust out and chase the kids down the street. No, no, no, no. The heroes bust out and they're being chased by all the monsters. Or maybe it's the other way around. Maybe the monstrous burst out first, and then the heroes burst out and chase them. Actually, let's just let's take a look at it. Red pull up the B roll. Okay. Oh, I see. Now he doesn't have to do it. I own a golden max machine for a long time. And it was not a very replayable game. But definitely played a lot of it. And that ending is fantastic. And it's really good music too. You can Sega Sega ending. I think all three of those games are really good. Examples? Yeah, I actually I have two, but then I just remember that reminded me of which one charted was it where you play one of naughty dog's older games, I think it's Jack and daxter. All right. Yeah, I think it's four. So you play crash? Crash Bandicoot. Oh, you play crash band? That's a really good one. Yeah. So I kind of forgot about that until just now. That's kind of breaking the fourth wall, but totally is. So my so I have two examples one I didn't play, but I'm just very familiar with so Stanley parable is basically inherently altogether. I'm breaking the fourth wall because there's a narrator. And you're kind of like, at odds with your narrator, sometimes depending on how you play. So that's a good example. It's like the core element of the game. And then my other example is Detroit become human, which isn't necessarily a gameplay mechanic so much as a narrative mechanic because when you back out of the game and you're in the menu, I forget her name, the AI that talks to you. She's taking your progression into account and she'll ask you questions. And at some point, you know, depending on how you play in the choices that you make, she starts really questioning her own identity, and it's just fascinating. So like her narrative evolves, the menu evolves as your choices in the game evolves, which I thought was really neat. And then I guess one other example is hellblade because when you know the mechanic of you getting sick, like kind of impacts the actual screen, so you as the player viewing that. So I think that's technically also for wall breaking. Those are good examples. I have a few more too. Metal Gear Solid has psycho manager save games, and then ask you questions about them. On the GameCube version, there's also a solution to one of the puzzles where I believe he is applying that you're supposed to unplug the controller from the GameCube port one and put it in port four. That's a really cool one. Another GameCube era one, which got me was eternal darkness, and it is requiem. Horror games, kind of resonating, I have to explain this game now because it's been 20 years and it's never had a sequel or anything like that. So that's kind of an attempted one. There was a moment in that game in which one of them is it brings up the GameCube save screen and starts deleting your files. It's kind of funny one. Apes that. And then you come back into sanity. Like that's the idea. It's like it's flashing into insanity. But the one that got me was back at that time, old CRT television. Some of them had the volume control that would come up. And it was this green bar. It was green text that said volume and it had the green bar. I just go, you just turn it down. And they put that in the game as a turn down the volume insanity effect. So it's like, oh, who's in my room turning down my TV volume? And my TV absolutely matched the volume controls that they used in the game. That's good. And it was just this fascinating thing where it actually made me jump. Who is behind me and my house with roommates or whatever, turning down the TV side landing went so crazy. That is a really good one. Justin any examples? Eternal darkness was going to be my other one. I didn't remember I didn't plan ahead of time, but near gets close to this. It's borderline whether it's fourth wall or not because fourth wall needs to explicitly reference the player in that you are a human playing a video game, right? But it does, it plays around with perception and what it means to be a video game, again, to sort of get into too many details is to spoilery and part of what makes that game special. But you can it's like you're a little robot Android person. You can slot in different chips. And that's how you power up your character. And you can take chips out and put chips back in. And then it affects elements of the game hood. That can appear disappear. And if you take away the health or HP chip, the game descends in the credits roll. Like you've killed you've killed your character. I.

"Think tony snell. Just because he's so consistent. I mean he's not flashy. But i could see especially with what they're going to want to do with that second unit and if they're really gonna try to hand the keys to anthony simon's on offense. I see tony. Snell being the guy. But i think this is gonna gonna battle him. I think that's my for me. The most interesting battling camp is what's going to happen with tony style and the little and who can edge the other one out because with a new coach. I just think tony snell's not the guy is gonna go out there and make self inflicted mistakes were necessarily little. You know being a younger player trying to prove himself my back himself into a corner a little bit. But you know. Kevin pelton brought up a very interesting idea as far as you know rolling out a jumbo lineup. And maybe we see a little bit of larry nance junior at the small forward position in certain lineups. And you know. I just haven't seen it before but i you know it's an interesting thought exercise and i'm wondering if it's something that they will try to experiment with At least early in the season. Yeah i mean. Cleveland had some lynam slash year with With especially earlier in the season in love. And and larry nance so. I think it's entirely possible. Obviously i think this will be a little bit better. It'll just depend. How shakes out. But again like i agree like i totally see that and i agree as well on nas because he was a guy. One of the few gripes had with terry stotts last year and just in terms of rotations. Because i've never really had an issue with his rotations. I've always thought he's pretty good job of managing it last year. Though i wanted nas to play more and it didn't happen. I think this year's your that becomes a real rotation guy because you can look up and down the roster. Think they're eight eight. Pretty clearly solidified spots nine. I think if you're including tony. Snell if i can count correctly That's eight or nine. But point being nas unlocks like that last piece where you can say okay. He's playing ten twelve minutes a game. We need somebody else. who can. Maybe that doesn't like like a super size of like talking about or even downsizing you play him at the three rokos at the four. And you have larry at the five like you can do just a lot more..

"He's going to visit that will really determine what he's going to be able to command. And if he can, we can keep them so. Look again. I'm not here being the you know, bringing the fire hose to put out a nice warm fire. I just have had, But I've had these questions. Now for a couple of weeks like We just keep looking at how they've performance performed since the All Star break and some of their inefficiencies on the road and some of the other issues and just say they have the luxury of being able to take their time and waiting to get to the postseason. For example, when you feel more comfortable if one of your starting pitchers was performing like Max Scherzer right now as they sprint to the postseason, and Matt shares are in his last seven starts as a Dodger as an E R a of like 1.5 like That's what I was hoping for. From this that you would head into the postseason in that on that high. Look at what Lynn has done up until this point, and I think he will be back. Have less concerned and I'm I'm not sure why Rogan is a concern. I'm not concerned about Lynn Giolito will be back. You know, He's a proven guy. He'll be back. He had a similar injury, and this is not as serious. This time he'll be back. He'll be fine, Fine. I'm concerned about Kaiko. He'll be on the playoff roster. I do believe I think it was was a passing last week that said. Was talking to you guys about that. I think it may have been and he'll be on the roster. He'll be used in long relief for whatever Just kind of eat up. So you've definitely given the deceased before you're giving it to chemical. That's exactly right. That's exactly right. So, uh, those aren't a concern. My concern is The inconsistency. On the offensive side. That is a real concern. That lineup has been shut out nine times. How is and and we want to see indications of that change As we get a little closer. It's real easy to say for Sox fans, and I get it to where it's like. This team. They're stacked, you'll be fine. Wait till we get to the postseason and people may be right. Right? And we don't know until we know but getting there. We'd like to see a little indication and we're getting ever closer. We're not seeing those things. We're seeing injuries on the starting staff, the starting rotation. Middle relief has been a little better, and I've got a question. I know Tony LaRussa will always do what he does, and as you said, he's not coming off his plan right now. Shapira. Has been really solid The other day he put him in to get out of an inning. Two outs, two batters he faced. Maybe you faced three batters Maybe one got on, but he had two strikeouts. Whatever the case. Didn't go to him and the next day. That's not Tony stop, but it's driving me nuts because you can push off. Uh, you know, getting to Hendrix? Yeah. You know, and Kimbrough, you could push it off. But that's not Tony style. He likes to clean inning thing. So I just be interested by, you know if you if you pulled 100 Sox fans I'm not asking about how you feel about the future because the future is bright as the day is long. But how do you feel about your team? As you head down the stretch of September? I get it. I don't even want to talk about the ale Central that's been wrapped up for months, so I understand it gives them some luxury to handle things with caution. And with patients, But by the same token, you're struggling with some of the same things now that you did when the All Star break happened. You're not good on the road. Okay? You haven't been able to really string anything together, and we're just waiting for all of this greatness. Kind of fall in line, and I think that that's presumptuous even with all of the potential and all of the wonderful things we've seen at times from this walks White Sox team. I think it's presumptuous just to think that when the postseason gets here, just so I'm going to come together to jail. Everything. Yeah, that's my problem, too. It is very presumptuous. And the inconsistency is a real issue. Look, maybe they can straighten it out. But it's been that way all year. So in the next three weeks, they're gonna figure that out. We'll see when you talk to learn about it at 5 30 as well. Yeah, and land has been very consistent like he. Lenin never hits the panic button, but he's been consistent all along that this is a plan. Tony's got a plan. They're using this big lead that they have developed. As a way to kind of pace themselves and make sure that everybody's healthy. They've just been really unfortunate. In recent recent weeks, that history you can't change that. I mean that that is the the great X factor. In any sport in any season. Injury. So how do you prepare for that? You're cautiously confused with the Bears. How would you describe yourself as a White Sox family? Cautiously optimistic, given all the step above what you have to feel significantly better about your White Sox than you do about that. I do, And I do have faith in and Tony But as any real White Sox fans, sometimes they'll make you a little crazy, But I think that's all part of the plan, right? We're never going to be totally satisfied with what we see. And when something fails, of course, we had the answer. What would we have had that answer before the failure? I'm not sure a lot to work with. But will it all be working together at the same time? When opposes? That's it, and and that's the real concern, And I don't think that that's an answerable question. Here. I get it. It's gotta play out. Yeah. It's got to play off. But there are there are concerns. I'm definitely not that guy that says Ah, it'll be fine. Don't worry about it. I hope you're right. Don't worry about because I want to see this White Sox team just ripped through the American League in the postseason. That's going to be quite a chore because there are some teams there. That scared the hell out of you. While it starts tonight. The A's are no slouch. Then we see the Red Sox and they're definitely not a slide. We'll get back to football conversation. I just wanted to Segway into the baseball diamond for a second to get your feel on on how you thought about your your favorite baseball team, but, uh Bears and in Ram Start season Sunday night in L, A. How are you feeling about your team? 3123323776? We get back to football. Next, you were listening to Waddle and Sylvie on ESPN 1000 Chicago's home for sports. "Some big words they're out of mike dantonio sarah how far office scenes assessment of james harden i hesitate going into james harden's game because of the year he's having because of how much i believe everything short of the best offense of player i've seen is accurate he can score in so many different ways the way in which we've seen facilitate has been tremendous but then told me saying the best offensive player he's he played with kareem he coached kobe i'm from chicago so michael jordan is it for me you go through the list of players oscar robert i keep naming different players james harden has been tremendous but i also think you have to look at dan tony style how much that lends itself to why james harden is able to put up the numbers he has utilizing the type of talent he has the game has changed this is a different era james harden for the last six years has averaged about ten free throw attempts game gets eight or nine points per game from the free throw line of big part of that is the way in which they have changed how you can play defense so i think there's a lot that goes into what we're seeing out of james harden and what we've seen outta him the past couple of seasons but not over the duration of career to calm the best offensive player that we've seen listen i think hardened should be the league second ever unanimous mvp this year i have been preaching this gospel for quite some time i i was in houston when they traded for him and i remember because i'm such a stats nerd looking at his perth thirty six numbers coming off the bench.
