"Which is you you know so obsolete now that And what I think is going to be great with this new car. You know the bigger rims. The the shorter tire low profile tires. It's it's things you see on your daily car to translate what better with a stock car now. Is the car actually stockcar. No the bodies are much different. Chassis built much different but That being said they are getting closer. They are trying to make this closer racing. They are trying to put the the racing back in the the driver's hands again. Where you know? You're not just driving around with a car sticks to the racetrack you now have to maneuver it and know how to drive it. The next it's making these passes and things like that so it's important for Nascar to make these changes which more important than anything else right now and I know a lot of fans that have struggled with this but they literally have to change the economics of the sports on the team owners side. They can't be spending this type of money if they're going to try to make the successful because you know money buys speed we get all that man is getting out of hand and these teams if they can't compete at that level they're we're GonNa fall off and then we're not gonNA have teams and we're going to have these crappy Small one car team things coming in here and making a mess of the sport and bringing in you. You know Bob's super garage sponsors and it's just not gonNA have the same deal anymore if we WANNA make this a great series. They need to fix the the economics of this sport and do it quickly. Yeah no I completely agree with you there and You know I think We gotta jump to short commercial break here but You Know I. I think it's one of those that I've noticed and I think fans of noticed you've noticed it but Used to be you know. You'd have a sponsor and they'd be year long. You know you could count on Jimmy Johnson lows cars or the Jeff Gordon do pot dot car. Whoever's car you know what I mean and now you know that that's the thing of the past it's alternating sponsors and even Nascar can't even find you know you know one series sponsor for the whole they've got a split it up you know and I'm not saying that's good or bad? I'm just saying economics definitely definitely changed the sport but we've got to take a short commercial break in. Welcome back to the down and dirty radio powered by Polaris Razor. ARSIA slipped slipped up. It's the general tire down and dirty show general tire stepping on Boorda's our title sponsor. This year slipped up there but we got robbed. EMECO on the show and rob we have been talking a little bit about Awesome Nascar News and kind of where things are headed. But I know before we get to the Daytona five hundred. We've got a couple of big ones first and foremost Chili Bowl. And then we've got the twenty four hours of Daytona but chilly bowman. Does anybody have anything Christopher Bell. Can You tell me rob I I got to say. I'm kind of passive sprint car fan. I follow it just enough economy. What's going on but Cibelli seems like Siebel and Chili Chili Bowl? Do Their on lock. Yeah it's funny you know. I'm not a big. I've never been a big dirt racing guy don't know why and never got really into it. I didn't follow it quite a bit when I was doing work with speed. And all that Sprint cars in the The wing the non wing all that stuff and even some of the stuff. They raised on pavement but These guys out here. You know Tony. Stewart Kyle Larson to some of the big names out out there for the guys that are really the superstars of the guys from the local tracks and and and travel with the circuit and racing four times a week those guys for or the bad assets of the sport right but you get a guy like Christopher Bell. Who's done this record and it has been there and done all that is coming back and just being a superstar for star out? There just shows his driving ability what he is what he can be my issue with him is obviously. He's making the move from the expanded series up up to the cup series and he's going to be racing with the will bind family racing but it in conjunction with kind of the. Jj are the Toyotas and things like that but That's my thing is that he is coming into the sport at that level level with a team. That's really not gonna be able to give them everything that he needs. Now he was jumping with. Joe Gets racing and go right from their awesome and that would be great degree pers- career but maybe they're just trying to get them into that steppingstone 'cause the next year or this year should say it is twenty twenty already The rookie class is spectacular. Cole custer moving up from the committee series Tyler. rettig the champion from the extended the series Christopher Bell these guys those were the top three guys in the extended series moving up and now going to be in the cup series. That is something mm to watch so now you get to see Christopher Bell. The Chili Bowl obviously has an opportunity to win there that would be cool for him to go in Daytona five hundred hundred and the Cup series and seasons and Race that rookie I don't know if it's going to be as successful as it was for him. In extended entity and dirt racing the Chili Bowl in all that because of the teams with. We'll have to see we never know. Yeah well and here's a question you know and this is just something that you you know kind of popped into my mind. Is You. Tell them you're talking about his young crop of NASCAR drivers come and I mean do you. Do you think we're ever going to see these guys with these long careers that go into their mid forties or fifty years old and cup. Because I feel like there's so many young guns and we talk about all these guys coming up and then I can tell you right behind him. I mean you've got Zane. Smith Myth Riley Herbs Haley Degan. You know that are a couple years away from running cup. You know what I mean. It's like there's always this young crop of talented drivers coming in and I feel like you know where those you no you. We used to see those long twenty thirty year careers at times you know. I don't know that we're GonNa see those again rob. I think it's going to get shortened down almost like ten fifteen year careers maybe the peak level. You know yeah. It's also a timing thing. So you got guys like Kevin Harvick who is. He can be racing a few more years but he's getting getting up there right. He's got to retire. Somebody's gotTa take his place. You WanNa be that guy. It's almost like coming out of the college You know like these quarterbacks now that are you know figuring okay. When is this Guy GonNa come out the team? Start talking to the the quarterbacks who are GonNa you know we'll get in this draft coming out here so you know in your senior year your junior year you know when you make yourself eligible to go into the NFL. Same thing with these guys. When do they start making that move? Okay I WANNA. It'd be inexpensively here because this gives me the opportunity 'cause you guys like You know go back to Elliott. Sadler moved up but then had to move back down You know there's a couple of guys that race with Junior Motor Sports. That does does.

"Or something like that. That's a nice nice little short track you can. The driver comes out a little bit more than maybe at a superspeedway or a mile and a half track though schools. David get behind the wheel. Maybe not one last time but another other time this year. It's like it's like you know nothing ever changed. She's behind the wheel of a car at home and he's going to be behind the wheel on twenty twenty starts as well as on. He's asked him successor. restrictor plate tracks. We know that even though they don't really run our sector but anymore you know what I'm saying he's wanted basically or he's one of the day before so I think you can't really count him out. I mean you can't really count anybody out when you go to those two tracks. But just 'cause David Reagan's a little bit on the older side which isn't really true because he's in his thirties. I think he'll be. I'm somebody to watch US speed. We kind of get rolling. Yes so the interesting thing about that is. It's a rick ware racing car. This can be prepared by front row motorsports who gets credit for the win if he wins. Yeah that's it. You get the checkered flag checkered flag you just the trophy you get the trophy you get the money you get the money. If if it's all about that and I think David Ragan he knows what's on the line is not a point. It's not gonNA be raising points. It's not gonNA be racing to make friends. It's going to be racing for the win and when you have drivers out there that don't have anything on the line other than and bring him back the trophy. That's dangerous. So that's why I think he might be somebody to keep your eye on. How wild would it be? What a what MIC DRP moment would it be if he just punts chase Elliott on the final APP for the five hundred? JP He'd probably go from one of the most universally likes guys one of the most universally hated guys in that one but that'd that'd be something just an instant changing of how we feel about him. No doubt one third of the wheel and everybody ate them. That'd be wild So we also saw Another interesting truck series development. This off season David gravel will be going from dirt racing which he'll still do some of that this year but he's doing okay part time truck series schedule with GM racing That's kind of interesting and I do not pretend to know anything about the raising of dirt race in my life and that was evolution last year during speed week and I was. I made a rookie mistake of not bringing glasses. Some people were like. Oh bring your face but I'm saying okay You know whatever and then I get there. I'm getting absolutely pelted with dirt. And I think I'm still picking it out of my sinuses. I digress plot. Or they're trying to say is. I think it's really cool. When drivers drivers from other disciplines just in general come over to other forms of motorsport whether that's IMSA NASCAR NASCAR INDYCAR mccarter Nascar Formula One for Indycar? It doesn't matter and I think that Nath car and dirt racing in general have floors a unique bond in the past half decade. or so. And I think Tony Stewart Kyle Larson Christopher Bell You know there's other drivers as well chase Briscoe. M. R. N.. NBC doing well stuff. Endure the racing. He's going to be competing at the Chili Bowl as well. Rico abor. There's a ton of names on. Its own of crossover with dirt racing and you you would not have. I've been able to say that you know. I don't know six seven eight years ago. Maybe a little bit longer than that. Because that's just wasn't the case but now it seems normal. Drivers compete compete on dirt on asphalt. NASCAR whether it's truck Xfinity Cup or even down in Arca West Africa East or national. So I think it's super cool that they have a gravel doing on some good equipment when he does it as well. 'CAUSE GM says no slouch at all definitely heavy bringing great sponsorship as well Alta and. I'll have a partnership with Jeff Gordon as well. So a lot of that bodes pretty well for David. Grou- going forward I guys I got a guy got it break up the love fest here. you guys will be back toby and Davey in mere moments.

"Hosting its sixtieth anniversary bursary celebration this weekend. How cool is that. A key figure in toledo history is joy fair a short time champion joy all time nine wins leader with not answering against him late model. That's cool a long list alleged of raised it toledo from nascar hall of famers to short-track icon dick trickle. The kings been there also has those with arcus zimmerman's you up yes. Many drivers earned our coin's including our our own parker kleger mun now patrick clinger meant remember to share your short track like it does with the hashtag my track my roots john angst one last week is modified feature at mississippi thunder speedway where where where is oddly it's in wisconsin. Go figure the cow geno and tyler read all cut their teeth cycle lanes got kicked cycle bye bye bye driver not much taller taller than those guys how people made fun of me that i couldn't fit the same car that they fit in ask man guzzler one last week in super street race at motor mile l. speedway in verse wind in more than five years rats buddy plays a great guy and i've actually attack my roots. Thank what you got for sending those. Is it true a little birdie told us that if you had gotten to be in sprint car or up costa one that it might have it might have changed your trajectory a little bit is that true so i grew up watching my grandfather race cars and i wanted nothing more than to raise third springer's and he would not let me wouldn't let me he said no because i'm going to say this and he's probably watching because he tried to asphalt all race in wasn't good at it but he was phenomenal on dirt. He's he. He blamed on the fact that you learn bad habits from dirt racing note. If you ever want to make something of yourself and you wanna go race nascar one day. I'm knocking late. Let you race a dirt sprint car because you'll learn too many bad habits so he was wrong. Jeff gordon tony stewart kyle larson. The list goes on plenty of people run dirt sprint cars and have have done okay. I will say that your grandfather obviously had the same philosophies richard petty because he said if you spent too much it's time on dirt. You couldn't run asphalt. He was wrong to hear that story at a my track. My roots track stenhouse shoot racing routes. We were the ditch and international speedway. That's right. I love watching it and always wonder race one and you never got to you think you made the right move out. We're going to get back to the phone lines and take more your calls next on motormouth. They'll go.

"In with with NASCAR insure trick racing. We need to see more of it. And you know while Schrader doesn't do as much on the NASCAR side he's still a great ambassador, I think for for short track racing. And his, you know, just people knowing him could get them to come to a short trek that might normally not go there. But then you've got guys, of course like all the guys around with the outlaws. Casey kane. And Tony Stewart Kyle Larson Ricky Stenhouse, those names going over to world of outlaws. You've got Ryan priests, who course still gonna come back and run with the modified to few more times this year. Now that he's in the Cup series even Daniel hammer Easter on modified, Mike. Joy mentioned he won that legends that big million dollar legends race at Charlotte. That's kind of what his name on the map coming up through the ranks was he won the legends. Millions of Charlotte and there's not enough stories. A guys coming out of short-track racing into the Cup series as much anymore as there was, maybe thirty years ago. We're kind of everybody. You know, you were coming out of the real, Mark Martin rusty Wallace coming out of ASA. You were Greg sacks coming out of the modified, you know, there's, there's not enough of those stories. I mean yeah they still run legends cars and late models. But they don't really put as much time in the short trek level, because now there's such that urgency where they're getting the kids into the late models at fourteen fifteen years old. They're in they're running Arca when they're sixteen seventeen in the Cup series by their twenty th unfortunately that window has become so short for driver development. We don't get to build the short-track racing legends that get to go into the Cup series like dealer and did. I mean Dale followed in his dad's footsteps and wrote in the short treks down there in North Carolina, and the late model sportsman and everything before moving up to the Cup series. He was a he was a rookie in the Cup series in his early thirties, I believe just going off top my head, you know, by time you that age now in the Cup series almost past your prime. So it's, it's weird how it is the, the window shortened. But that's sports in general. To. I mean look, just the guys that come out of college early to go play in the NBA, or they wanna come out early if they could go play in the NFL that, that window has shortened up, where the, the younger guys get into the pro levels and all sports has certainly shortened, but I think it fortunately has hurt the short-track world when it comes to motor sports because these guys can't build their legends their legend in the short trek reasonable before going to the Cup series, latest kind of dabble a little bit in, in one kind of racing legend cars relate models something. And then there quickly off running Arca in trying to get truck rides and xfinity rides. And especially if they have a lot of money behind them, they go right into those upper level. So but again, go see Kenny Schrader tonight at Humber stone or tomorrow at Maryville and really cool to talk to him. Glad we got him. That's why I didn't want to jinx it because I always get these cool guests in for whatever issue the connections not there, or he's gets busy and doesn't answer the phone, which is understandable. And but he was there. So coolest octa Kenny Schrader. We'll see him tonight at Humber stone speaking, a local racing some tracks. Get their shows in this weekend. We'll hit the local racing round up. We get back to wrap up this edition of fast track on WGN. Some.

"Of, all whoever got that interview can you? Get a better freaking, Mike, they're like a boom. Microsoft, and that was horrible well I think he was interviewing Tony to write an article did not realize that the audio would need to be made public because, so many people? Were questioning are you. Sure that's what he said he. Wanted to run. The Indy? Five. Hundred, wait are. You sure. Okay In all. Of that in. All of that? Now You my credentials in the Tony Stewart fan. Club I'm a? Lifelong member right and Mike intials in the Bush free zone are lifelong but Kurt Busch ran the n. b. five hundred finished sixth in. Front of some serious competitors and was extremely competitive. Himself. So that's one thing that I might disagree with Tony he didn't win, and I don't know that he, was competitive to win maybe didn't have a. Winning car but he, ran? Sixth out of thirty three That's pretty awesome You know danika I don't think she ran six more than once and. How, many, tries so yeah That's, what I'm saying she got fourth. Once she was leading in. The final ten, laps after a restart and she got the turn one she was eighth or. Something, so Yeah let's let's let's be a little circumspect. On how we just throw water, on one off drivers at the end of five hundred no I'm with you there because yeah Kurt Busch is one off for the, Indy five hundred was like you said just. Mad talent and yeah proved that he could do it and Fernando Alonzo even. Though he went out with a blown engine with I. Think twenty, some odd. Lapse to go he also was always competitive that month and practice and qualifying enduring the race I think Fernando led a couple of apps as well so yeah there. Are it just depends, on, the, driver if they're going to be a, sideshow or if they're going to be a. Legit competition when it comes to the Indy five hundred and I think Tony Stewart Greenwich. He might have to lose some LBJ's but. I think he absolutely would be, legit this is a race that it, means a ton to him. Growing up in central. Indiana and we've. Seen Tony Stewart win in everything he's a former IndyCar champion granite, that's when the split was going. On but he's a NASCAR. Champion He's a dirt he's a. Sprint car midget you name it he's a champion of everything he's driven he could totally. Do it and not be a sideshow what. Tony Stewart reminds me of statman, Tony Stewart Kyle Larson and others of, that ilk it's like gosh Okay here you. Go like a Stevie. Wonder there are several. Albums were Stevie Wonder early. In the. Seventies played every freaking instrument on his album songs in. The Kia? Life one of the best albums ever, done, playing that for my daughter today. In pool, so Tony Stewart. You put him in anything and he can drive it and he could drive it well there there are certain instruments that Stevie. Wonder's better at but he he can play the piano the drums the guitar the. Bass The triangle play, ball, well but, I'm sure there's one that he excels it Tony Stewart I'm sure excels at something. But, it's the dirt or NASCAR or IndyCar but it's you, look at guys like that and it's, such a, different breed, that yeah Now there might be some, risks for Tony Stewart but it's just in his blood that's just just what you, do Nuts I can't blame the. Guy and I've promised to get. To the story about Roger Penske saying that he, would like to have Tony Stewart I'll just tell you about. Roger Penske said that it's been a dream of his. But Tony Stewart.
