"And seen an offensive line that has somehow found a way to maybe improve a little bit with some personnel changes and getting a little bit healthier, So he's not running for his life is Andy Dalton got all too used to A lot of questions and opportunity for them to maybe stand up and make a statement not just in the conference, but maybe in the league just in general and a guy who knows from following those Bangles because he's Everywhere all the time, seemingly doing these things and kind enough to do expend some time with his again on this Saturday night is our friend James rippin from all Bangles and in Sports Illustrated. Locked on Bangles. You got more jobs. Some people can't have one job. You've got multiple jobs, James Rippin. Welcome back over your Saturday. Sterling. How you doing? I'm doing Well, darling, How are you? I'm doing okay. You get to sleep a little later tomorrow. Maybe I don't know if that's accurate. I know I will getting ready for Ah, late game for Bangles Steelers in Pittsburgh. How? How does this shape up to you? Roethlisberger is back in active. How much of a factor is he gonna be? Your already chuckling? Is this going to be ugly? Nothing. Unbeaten Steelers team welcoming the Bangles in Stop laughing that I was laughing because my dog, of course, decided the bark. That's nicely nicely sterling. When, uh But when you brought me on No, I think that they are as far as this matchup. Look off course it is a tough matchup for the Bangles. And it's one that the Steelers air going to Probably wins like that's how I feel about it going in, But you never know. So I think that this is a one where, like Big Ben. Of course he was gonna play all week. I never really thought that he wasn't And it's zee tall task. Let's say for Zach Taylor in company. That's what we'll say. We've seen some growth. We saw running game that wasn't there with the mixing out even with the foot in an offensive line that seem to gel orbit and stand up two weeks ago, How are we looking going into tomorrow afternoon's game when it comes to some of those things? Yeah. So I I agree, uh, specifically would make something out. I think the offense played more. Free open. I don't I don't know exactly how you want to describe it, but Giovanni Bernard the way he lets them because he's such a good pass locker. They could do anything they want. They can call any planet any time. They don't feel obligated to give him No 20 carries necessarily. And so I think that part of it opened up the offense the past couple of weeks. And that helps him because you know when, when you don't have mixed them in there. You don't feel obligated to try to get him touches and hopefully get him going, And it was not the type of guy that's gonna have run the ball 20 times now against the Steelers, you look at the past couple weeks. Maybe that's what you want to do, because they have given up significant rushing yards over the past couple of couple of games last week, Ezekiel Elliott Tony Pollard, who people like Who's Tony Pollack? Well, the Dallas Cowboys ran with Tony Pollard. He had a good week last week, and they almost beat the Steelers. So I think that that's part of it. As far as the offensive line goes sterling, I think it's going to be I'm trying to get here because because Fred Johnson still on the Koven 19 reserve list. I think he's a guy with him out. Bobby Heart out. Probably acumen envy it right tackle. But I'm wondering if they do they roll. It may be a court in Spain that right tackle. I think it's gonna be interesting to see who starts at right tackle tomorrow, and that's kind of the story line. Left tackle Jonah Williams appears to be ago. He was limited all week in practice, but I think he'll make his return. And then the guard spots in the center spotted that we've norm. It is going to be interesting, though, to see what they do it right tackle specifically against this Steelers defense. That pass rusher will get after you, and then they'll get out there Go over. Oh, it's a big decision for Zach Taylor and the rest of this Bangles offense. This Bangles team has dealt with some covert issues, at least by the positive test in isolation and all those other things in that so called bubble. If you will in the you know issues, what would the defense tackle issues that offensive line issues? We know that you sort of touched them in a little bit Quarterbacks and so on. Where does it stack up with overall health and strength? Just because I mean, it's an unbeaten Steelers team at this point, any light and moving ahead with this bangle standing. I mean, this would be a big Difference. I think in the conference, not just just to be able t hold their head up. I don't want to say I mean, these guys are making a living doing what they love. But you wanna win. No doubt. No doubt This is Honestly, darling, let's be honest here, and I wrote this earlier this week for all of the angles if Zach Taylor could somehow find a way to win this game He will be here in 2021 like that's it. It doesn't matter what happens. But the final seven games like that. That's how significant a win over Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh after 10 straight losses, including the playoffs. Giving all of their issues with covert 19 this week and everything that's going against them, including an undefeated team that is really, really good, and I get it but nationally People look down on them after they kind of, you know, laid an egg against Dallas and still found a way to win. But like this would be a huge win. And so that's how I think. Really the story line here. Is it Zach Taylor. Just kind of open things up and just go for it on fourth and three in the first quarter on his own 42, you know, he aggressive enough to do those things no seriously. Because those are the type of decisions That might make or break this potential upset and if you punch Woman been Rafa's burger, Given the Bangles injury issues in the second area, and they're gonna be missing for they're gonna have four healthy corners tomorrow and three that are on the active roster. It's gonna be really hard for that secondary for hold up, so he's gonna have to be aggressive. And even if he could find a way to put together a game plan and stay in this damn and hang around and pull off a win, then I think it really does secure him. In 2021. I know that that's insane because we're talking about just one game, but I think it's a really big game for that. From that perspective, with the commedia legacy defining type win for Zach Taylor and company Well, this one changed rippin,.

What how did you come up with the title? So what does what does that? You kind of alluded to it a little bit but maybe you expand on where that came from of what it really means. Are. Our Writers Group really helped me with this. I knew I wanted. So when I speak I give everybody's little hearts because I want to take what I shared with them wisdom and I wanted to be memorable and I had this I reach out to me this morning that before we mit Heart gaming five years ago. So he remembers speech I gave five years ago and it was a short speech but he remembers any rumors from heart. So everything we do. We should be driven from the heart. We should not think about it and I look at this don't think about it with your mind. Push out outside forces in just go with full bore and its military coming up. I mean you've got a janitor and sometimes you're GONNA fall down. But if you get back up and that's what happened to me, I had to get back up and when I chose to get back up everything. I could have accepted. My demotion wasn't fired completely from your job. I was demoted could accept a my demotion. Or public education job and just been miserable. So I got demoted out. I was crying with these people in and out. I love sharing a story now but I hated at the moment drink. And someone like you doing this nothing. and. I said you're right I did it was an accident but I own it it was inadvertent and I'll tell you what it. So I'd get the new job and old faculty said, let me send them goodbye email I went to youtube at download it. Funny. Goodbye emails. One inappropriate now wasn't cussing and it was a foreign European commercial. Aim across the wrong way in a in an tired I didn't send the one I should of Santa sent the one I should not have sent. In lost a job, it's as simple as that but. Viviana team I'm looking around this room and this team of people around me. There had just hired Mason we can't have you doing this. And I drove to Sam's Club in Mama's Alabama. Started cry and it was at that moment said I've got a change. What did I wrong I get get get your your ego gets the best of you. you become cocky and I had done all those things. I just I saw two hours after that I Google had a repair your image on the job. Right down your goals. So I'm forty five years on I. Think it was forty three. I haven't done that ever why not use are are running my goals down five goals day. And it said read books do what CEO's do. So I started reading books. I had you know because I just want to get to class. So I would do study and get to class nine or reading books in that first year read fifty two books. That Tom Appropriate or four hundred books. And in, it's all about leadership teamwork person development anything that's going to help me grow..
"Yeah absolutely. Well I I now that. One of the things about being an author as we've learned is. Writing, a book is just the first step. It's then You know letting people know about it, and so I'm I'm happy to. Share your story a little bit. So let's actually start off by might there what actually inspired you to write a book and this book in particular? Well. This is actually my second book and and I have to tell you some hold up again 'cause you get excited when you do something especially when people tell you could not do something. I've done with this books wasn't supposed to be done at all in highschool at let me backtrack. So and elements causing special needs classes in high school. Ahead of high school counselor tell me I should basically be digger and and I had a goal and my goal was to. Go to college but I didn't know how it's going to get there and they have the grades for the Act Four. So I joined the military like my father did in in my uncle and my mother, and we have a long line of military people when I went to when I went the service and got called the Desert Storm. He thinks hit you and it was that moment I knew that I. Want to be a teacher I knew that I had to go to college in I just started taking class here a class there everything was one goal. Upon another, if I could pass this class, oh I could take classes and that's what led to this basic journey and this kind of things are in the book these little bits of stories, but this book was actually driven by failure. From The in high school I I was told that I. couldn't do anything. I in my current job, I had just been promoted to principal of a full time. School has excited I was gonNA, make some changes and then I did something stupid. So you know how we get things when we fail. Failed Gloriously, not people could say they were fired from a job within three days of receiving the job I. Was An accident, but bottom line ahead to own it. Is All these things are in this book and when you own something and you accept it, you can move on for from it and that's what I did and from that moment on spend almost seven years ago. I just had made a choice to from that moment on I would be in a perpetual state of discomfort. My first thing was getting over the fear public speaking. Join toastmasters. I wanted to I need to lose weight. So I've done those things. and. and. Then I said why need to start writing anything that could cause me pain or discomfort is what are done and then so now written this book and this book is my journey, but it's also everyone else's journey. It's sort like vignettes when when we do thanks from the heart, we do fully and completely we can change our lives completely and I still work for the board of education but I don't see that I don't see myself as an employee I. See Myself as an entrepreneur I, work for myself in work for yourself in you may work for a company. But if you work yourself, you're always gonNA make yourself better. Yeah. That's true. Since that time I've made myself better I've had companies call me, Hey, will you come out the Dallas and present some of the ideas and stuff you brought transportation?.

"I mean he's he's in that room and then if you ranked slot receivers in the NFL if you wanna just put city lamb down as your slot receiver. I mean dude. Who's better any is rookie. And you know that should be said. But that's why I'm saying I think the position group that is least likely to disappoint us throughout the two thousand twenty season is in arguably the wide receiver position. Now I think that there's an argument to be made for running back. Just the running back position as a whole in that position group. Because maybe you figure Tony Pollard if Tony Pollard has a significant role that maybe that's the answer. Because he's going to be Zeke. And if you're still getting production from Your Secondary Guy in twenty power. Then things are going very well for you there so so the fact that the top three answers for this this particular question for the cowboys specifically are on the offense because in some order your top three are wide receiver running back and offensive line right. I mean it lends to the idea that this should be a very very very good offense if you somehow didn't already think that it was going to be so that's exciting and We'll see we'll see that ultimately comes through wish but that was our little discussion for today and tomorrow. We'll probably do you know what is most likely to disappoint you and that's not as fun of a question to answer but it is still a necessary question to answer because sometimes we all disappointed. Sometimes football happens sometimes crazy things go on and you know that's that but it is another week in the month of. May were still you know. We're about inside sixty days to the actual DAK Prescott deadline July fifteenth so. I could be an exhausting week from that perspective. It is you know things I think are starting to calm down a little bit across the NFL. Obviously the owners are meeting. And things like that. But I don't think we'll get any real waves for a while. This is the part of the calendar year. Were things settle a little bit into place and you know? Obviously there's a lot of attention being paid to how training camps GonNa work and things like that so We'll of course.
Ezekiel Elliott, agent touch down to finalize Cowboys deal
"Our reporter edward or who was in dallas following zeke situation closely. He said i've been told that agent. Rocky arsenault is traveling with running back ezekiel elliott from kabul to dallas. Remember zeke was working out in kabul bob now traveling back to his team's hometown source said an agreement between the team and the two-time n._f._l. Rushing champion is very close. Good news for cowboys cowboys fans as one is a pun us and it would be a good time to agree to a new deal multiple reports say again zeke left kabul to be back in dallas the hope being that if and when a deal gets done he would be in close proximity to the team and could rejoin them very quickly quickly michael. We'd said i this well. It's obviously <hes> on tuesday. You better be preparing with the people that you've got available to you for sunday and so we're working with the people that we have out here now and the ones that we have that we were going to be on the field and that's how we're preparing it will be great will be and would be great if a short period of time passes that zeke would be in that group but we'll see how wow today goes. We'll see how tamara goes. We'll see how the ensuing hours pan out again. Jerry jones commenting on this as he has throughout the process sometimes with better results than others but in any event when i said to you hey rocky. Our snow is with zeke elliot. He said you said what that is. Typically assigned things close. Yes yes exactly when the agents coming with the player that means. We're at the one yard line. We have some details to work out and again. We gotta remember that zeke elliott's already under contract so that's important he just joke right back in in terms of gain the physical done and sometimes it may take a day or two to work out the details with the agent get the approval in terms of some of the details worked out but in the meantime he could get the weekly game plan and there's speaking acclimated back <hes> very quickly so hopefully this gets resolved over the next day or so well jackie said this earlier but just to underscore underscore the point that sooner is better having said that you feel like as long as he's in camp. I mean not camp. I'm sorry with with the team and in practice by thursday day to be in the plan on thursday needs to be in by wednesday so so we gotta be close in order to go twenty four hours or so but it doesn't surly a matter how many players but it could be the most important place and we talked about this earlier you know just from past protections point he may be out there on third downs and in non non running situations because of his conditioning. Tony pollard has taken every rep in every meeting so i got to imagine that tony pollard even with zeke there this week will be a big part of the game well. It's so easy to think about zeke and to be effective. He's got to have the football on his hands but to your point pass protection is something he can do and has done and if that's what it is this week then so be it then you surviving advance so to
Holdout Ezekiel Elliott still absent from Dallas Cowboys as first game draws near
"Saturday multiple outlets report that there is some progress negotiation zeke and the cowboys and the expectation was that they would have something worked out by the end of the weekend then last night multiple reports stated that negotiations had fallen flat once again the category on structure the contract like total guaranteed money over how many years not necessarily how much the contract could top out at basically zeke is holding says i want todd gurley contract and then some the cowboys you're saying no because the dot girly contracts hawks folks because todd gurley is not right and if the rams were asked hey. Would you like to go sign. The curly contract again like no no. We're good. We love me on that one. This amid word you always has more cowboys have consistently shown willingness to sign their best players to extensions with two years remaining and make a player. The highest paid his position the fact that they're preparing to start the season without ezekiel ezekiel elliott has a holdout says a lot about how they view his demands. I drafted zeke elliott in in one of my fantasy leagues would have drafted him yesterday and the other fantasy league and my logic is there rawson rachel. He didn't really have have anywhere to go. He's under contract going anywhere and the whole sitting out thing like all right. He could sit out a couple of games. They're not gonna lose to the redskins or lose to the giants or lose lose to the dolphins which is not and this is not the lady on bell situation. He's not a free agent. Franchise tag like he still is under his rookie deal. Deal cowboys are in fact offering him a contract above and beyond that of a franchise tag. They're offering emigrate deal. Cowboys need him. They need him for later in the season need him to win a super bowl. The team is built around. Having a solid running game takes the pressure off dak prescott because it helps it helps to hide the fact that dak isn't deck. I mean that isn't that special. He is an elite but when is given all the weapon who work for he's going. He's fine. He's he's. He's he's draymond. Green deck is dre mongering with the cowboys really really effective without the cowboys and all they have probably just a guy but it's really hard to i find it draymond green just hard quarterbacks league and he has the equity and he continues to grow in terms of being a leader but this is ross and rachel. They're on a break but they're gonna get back together. A namesake tony pollard won't matter in a week or two weeks or a month or whenever and it it feels like the the cowboys probably went back and said look. We'll give you tell total dollar value of that todd gurley we just want to protect ourselves from your legal and bad the way the todd gurley did the cowboys haven't publicly once said anything said anything about you know dude. You were suspended six games and we went to the mattresses for you. Hey dude you almost got suspended this off season and we would have been therefore you. We would have said how wrong it was. We have fought for you. There is some there is some some some sweat equity from zeke but there's also some equity from extended from the cowboys and the other thing about the ross and rachel story to be honest at some point it did take away from the show right like i get it ross rachel. We'll be back together. Who are they dating now. When can they get back together all this other stuff but i like chandler. I like joey. I like how you doing.
Ezekiel Elliott found Jerry Jones' 'Zeke who?' joke 'disrespectful'
"Jerry jones may have unintentionally lee stirred the pot with ezekiel elliott and it seems to have gotten the running backs attention after the cowboys second preseason game jerry jokingly said zeke who when discussing discussing the performance of rookie running back tony pollard but think wasn't laughing yesterday zeke's agent told e._s._p._n. Quote. I didn't think it was funny and neither did zeke. We actually thought it it was

"I would fire back and said oh. Y'all should play the season with that guy. You know whoever you tony pollard and alfred morris whoever you rushing about you should play with them. I'll see you. I'll see you guys in january. See see how see how jerry so you just go back and forward and play a little game with them and get their reaction but clearly <hes> rocky qian z keys it just a game i mean when you're negotiating and obviously you know. Zeke wants as much as he can get. Jerry jones wants to get him in under the best deal possible for him and going back and forth like this. Is it simply. Just you know it's a negotiation. Were both trying to get what we want and then when it's over it's over and everybody goes back to doing what it is or or can. There be some hurt feelings. Some bad blood that lingers that if zeke fired back jerry takes it personally and vice versa and all of a sudden even when it finally does get done and he comes into camp yep there is some acrimony acrimony and there is some hurt feelings along cremony jose. Was there <hes> forehead career. Hey my bad <hes> okay man with jerry. You know if you if you have bad blow jurors young you probably some probably wrong with you if you if if if you or a dallas cowboys we'll talk about the player like like a real player and you have a problem with jerry some probably wrong because he he's not like that like he's not a <hes>. He's not a bad owner at all like he. He looks actors players. He takes care of his players. He genuinely cares about you as long as you capable of helping and win games and you know i just there's a lot of when i was waiting. There was a lot i mean he did a lot of meet me he couldn't do it. They certainly tried to do it. You know so i just i don't know i i wouldn't take anything. Personal down in owning running association is doing i would never take it personal and i would think i would think a guy like walkie. Who's probably done kazillion deals that we don't know oh about jerry jones and stephen 'cause he's having number of players with take it personal either. He just probably just. I don't know said it because zeke was i'm sure and he was like we're not happy key. What about antonio brown. I mean he he went back to camp damp yesterday. They broke camp he he was back with the team but now he's filed another grievance with the n._f._l. Saying that he deserves a one year grace period because this most recent helmet wasn't isn't outlawed until they told him he couldn't use it so he did. The whole thing. Just seems like a what we're talking about yesterday this idea of just. I want people to keep talking about me because there's no chance nancy's going to win it. The same people that kick the other helmet are going to kick this helmet. There's no endgame where he wins. This is it just. I don't wanna practice. I don't want to be in camp. I don't want people to keep saying my name because because the we've moved the ball a little bit down the field but nothing really has changed and he's still complaining about this and filing grievances coach. Yes listen listen to me. I i don't care i'm like so over a._b. In the nonsense just play football man. Get your money play football in enjoy it because much like stephen. They keep you've saying this is why they have a hard time won't deal because they they just people don't want to deal will with the ceiling is all the time like you..

"Lined up most of the time so so we need to realize that he was not and has not been a fulltime back he was a safety his his first year and then that quickly moved and they switched him back to offense because he's great with the ball in his hands but to believe that from four carries aries preseason game and a bunch of padded practices where you're not really taking hits left and right that you can expect that he can just do this twenty to twenty thirty five carries a game because that doesn't seem possible to me yeah. I definitely agree with everything he said there. <hes> i do think it's interesting that they didn't play alfred morris at all either <hes> he was inactive for the game so maybe they're looking at is in a situation where and again his comments say that i'm i'm wrong. What i'm saying isn't true but maybe they're looking at it as between alfred morris and tony pollard with tony pollard carrying the load. Maybe that's what they're they're expecting expecting but definitely if they expect tony pollard to carry the ball twenty five times a game. I wouldn't say that's wise but what i would love to see this to hold out goes into the season is that twenty pollard gets fourteen carries a game in alfred morris skits six to eight and that's what they go without without yeah see i'm. That's what i'm hoping to. I'm hoping there's a three headed monster between alfred morris and it all depends if alfred morris is is or is not washed talking on the podcast for the forty niners called forth in gold previewing this game and they said that alfred alfred morris looked really really bad last year so i'm interested in seeing how he looks if he gets any preseason snaps but i did like the few flashes lashes. I saw from mike weber last night. He was not as effective as tony pollard was but he broke big run on the outside their showed a little bit of vision but that often zip lining then he just wasn't seeing the wholes that tony pollard sol <hes> so i'm interested in seeing if they could make that a a three man swap and get some productivity from on those three so what you're telling me is the effect effectiveness of the running back is highly based on how walks in the situation that you're in and yeah yeah. It's it's not just the talent of the running my exactly all right well. That's all we got time for today where the talking star podcast us the cowboy season has started whether you want to believe the preseason is part of the season or not. We have football back on. We're going to have football back on for a long time. We we can't wait. We can't wait for the season to kick off. We'll be back next week to brief preview the cowboys game against the rams that will take place in hawaii so we'll have a a little a little little talking to do about last year's n._f._c. conference championship game see if the cowboys can get some revenge on the los angeles rams and give back into the w. you call before the start of the season. We're talking to star..

"The gauntlet of the s._e._c. is overrated. They they get four cupcakes. A couple of buys dabo sweeney said everybody tells me alabama was tired because they went through the grind of the s._e._c. Well they won by an average thirty three points. Are you serious. They're tired who's challenging alabama in the s._e._c. The answer is nobody. Georgia comes close. L._s._u.'s no longer a factor. This is why nick sabin gets hammered by me and this is why nick sabin who does control the schedule to a large degree the the out of conference schedule signed a home in home with wisconsin. The s._e._c. is now acknowledging the commissioner that they need to schedule more more power five out of conference games. There's declining attendance at a couple of the schools. The fans deserve more college. Football deserves more. Stop op with this hui that the s._e._c. gauntlet is brutal. You only play eight conference games and you almost always have a cupcake or a by before before your biggest. One enough is enough daboh sweeney nail that where colin was wrong. All you nathan peterman jokes. I am no longer occur telling a nathan peterman joke on the air. He was terrific. Jon gruden was right. He had the longest quarterback run of the weekend the third longest run of the n._f._l. Weekend he looked confident. He moved the chains. He was nine for twelve with a touchdown a long run. No interceptions gents nathan peterman. Jokes are officially over on this show. Where colin was right <hes> we told you we think jerry jones is gonna be tough on zeke in the negotiations. We don't think he's going to fold and once again this weekend. He went public with how great tony pollard learn. The new running back is sending a message to zeke. I'm certainly thought he had a good count himself. He looks copped often out there. We know he's ordinarily understanding what it is. He does convey we've seen him. We know he's capable of if he really needs to carry the whole love jerry jones now or stephen have gone public public for almost all of the last two weeks any opportunity they go public. They're squeezing zeke. I believe they're going to be tough on zeke. I do think come to the table and agree to a deal with amari dak. I may be wrong on this but once again we said this is what dallas is doing jerry and steve. It's a tag tag team. Partnership now stephen will come out in the next two days and talk about zeke. They're making it public. They're trying to curry favor in the locker room. We've got good young players. We don't need the. We're not beholden to neak. This is what we thought they should do and what they have done. Where colin was right carmelo. Anthony any cannot get an invitation to the fiba world cup all the other stars of turned it down. Marcus smart is on the team. Brook lopez has is on the team and this is because i never bought into the carmelo. Anthony is love by players. They may love him. They don't love playing with him. The reality is is he was bad for chemistry. He didn't have any self awareness <hes> he didn't frankly play well with others. I don't think i've ever been more right light on an n._b._a. Star carmelo anthony you keep telling me how everybody loves playing with him. He can't get an invitation to this. He can't even get a charity invitation a lifetime achievement award invitation to the fiba world cup. I'm actually surprised it. It's almost sad nothing nothing against carmelo anthony. He may be a great guy. I hated his game his body his body language his reluctance to play defense to be coached coached and he can't even get a charity invitation. This is the most right i should have a new classification. Calling was right calms wrong. Call was most right. The carmelo thing is official. We're colin was very right. Yes there you go..

"Well have a good count them so the lyrics confident out there we know we ordered a plate understanding what it is the data set in the send him the we know he's capable of if we really need to tell us you're just hours are talking about rookie running back Tony Pollard who had four carries for sixteen yards against the forty Niners on Saturday night not exactly the kind of performance that cries out this guy's ready to be the new Ezekiel Elliott but look they they they've they've got to do what they can't Chris with what they have while they wait for Z. to come back whether Tony Pollard Alford Morris whatever the move they make we're we're over two weeks in to this hold out right there's no sense of urgency on either side I don't get the sense they're talking that they're exchanging proposals that anything is happening and who knows what's going to ultimately happened but the cowboys are doing after I think starting off in a very shaky way because they didn't expect alley at the hold out they've done a nice job of reacting in digging in I wasn't gonna become who blanks yeah they're they're they're trying to sell us and doing a pretty good job that they think they're going to be okay but I'm still here to say that they're not going to be as good with Tony Pollard at running back as they would with Ezekiel Elliott again Tony Pollard there's a lot of things I like I like them come out of Memphis he does a little everything I mean it really a lot of those great plays at Memphis were at the wide receiver position Mike catch and wide receiver screens doing like doing things like that making plays down the field he's a slasher you know he does have good speed can make plays happened all that but he is not a proven bell cow by any stretch of the imagination and as EQ Ali it we know that's his bread and butter bread and butter when there's nothing there and there's zero yards to be had as you kill I'll use gift is that he's strong and powerful he lowers the shoulder he lowers his head and he still gets three yards with most running backs would get zero and then you're in second seven and that's a lot better than second and ten and it's those little things that I think are just going to continue to pop up more cowboys coaches and evaluators into realize they're missing of poverty I think we'll have a nice place within this offense but he's more almost like a third down you know change of pace back to me then the guy that you build this team to be around which is sledgehammers sledge hammer all yeah and then he has speed to break fifty and sixty yard runs that guy special and that guy deserves to be paid like the highest paid running back in football and they can say all they want the the they're gonna miss Ezekiel Elliott yeah and the question becomes when does someone say okay we have to work this out nineteen ninety three it was after two regular season games both of which the cowboys lost that the Emmett Smith hold out was resolved stream Williams last week pointed out that was Emmett blinking not the cowboys so I don't know how much longer the cowboys would have done it but the cowboys are looking at this two ways long term and as a business and yes they want to win they desperately wanna get back to the Super Bowl but they're not going to upset their overall vision for how they build their team by having one guy say I want more than what they are willing to pay him and they thought they were gonna be able to wait till next year you know what Chris I wonder whether at some point they just say Hey Zeke offers off the table you're under contract for two more years if you show up fine if you don't find we're moving forward without you and we'll see if it comes to that and and you know we've been kicking around ideas of players they could acquire that would maybe make everyone believe they're serious about insuring mentioned last week with Sean McCormack they've got a glut of running backs in buffalo yes they well the cowboys decide Hey basic at we got you on the books for three and a half million what will welcome you back whenever you show up until then we got a show McCord for this year now six and a half million is a lot more than they're going to want to pay but if they could work out some sort of a deal some sort of a trade whether Tim was Adrian Peterson you know somebody more than a rookie in Tony Pollard or now for more as somebody that would make us all say while you're serious about this at the I feel like that's the big move the cowboys could make it really would send a strong message disease that would send a huge message that would mean that they're ready to read their prepared did the the goal of the season and play the season without on the that's that would be big time and I'm not sure that that wouldn't pisses equality it off even more now than he goes are you got your money back trade me do something get rid of me so I don't know that's gonna be the best way to mend those fences the other thing I want I want to ask you this my because I was on the show last week do you believe like what's the even Jones tried to say would levy bell reset the running back market you and I never got discusses I don't think that's true I understand you take into account but I don't think he reset the market with what let me bell did what I think it's it's two in any negotiation once you cross the bridge you can't come back Stephen Jones had already said the Todd Gurley's deal as the starting point for Z. Q. alley yeah you can't then say it's not yeah all well lady on bell was a free agent he was unrestricted there was no draft pick compensation and that's when he got on the market so that's what the market bears no Todd Gurley still got more and Todd Gurley got his from his team after three years of of high level service it is far easier to draw parallels yes to Todd Gurley and ladies to lady on bell and also liberal Bellis five years a wear and tear and U. K. argues got let's tread on the tire the winner right right yeah yeah exactly all those factors considered yeah I I think there is a cure all its situation is closer to Todd Gurley so I don't buy that right but this is.

"A couple of times they were playing well and rookie defensive end jackson he had ah yeah one of the plays of training camp with the pursuit that he showed chasing down tony pollard yeah and how you know oh who is not going to make in the defensive line group you know because we we still got the potential hard especially with the potential that randy gregory revive make it back. We're not gonna count that chicken until it hatches but it you know there is just the numbers there are tough but you're seeing this almost every position group. Has somebody that you now. You're gonna lock well. Is there some way we can find a place to keep keep this sky. <hes> you know a mitch hiatt. They moved him into guard with all the problems they've had on the offensive line and he doesn't look like he's out of place doing doing that. So you know there's a guy they might want to try to find a place to keep and you know something that you mentioned prior to training camp even starting that you are interested in seeing something come from these backup quarterback so i think you got your wish. Cooper rush looks like the number two defacto quarterback the cowboys yeah he is he over the past a few <hes> practices has taken a step forward and kind of got himself the number two position but let's not forget that the last <hes> dr i've they had on offense by quite led the down got a touchdown and then another guy that baby forcing himself into the conversation a seventh round pick mike weber who had that nifty little fifteen yard scoot where he <hes> went up in the middle of aligned with cab that he just bounced did outside went around him. He just kinda made. Everyone look a little silly on that on that play because they were all like where did he go george and then boom he he just busted out runs <unk> right. He showed some nice power like jordan. Chun has had some nice place after as long as the running backs have done a pretty good job when when asked what they've been asked to do and when they're in there they've done a pretty good job. I will say this though there's if there's one area concern it's something that we brought up last week and i you just it's heartbreaking when in in you know the situational drills and and the two minute when dak prescott leads this team all the way down the connecting with jason witten connecting with randall cobb my gosh randall cobb jumping out of there to set up such a doable and a kick a kick is thirty two yards or something like that that that right mark comes out and mrs and he just came off a day where he went six for six but you still see the same guy a guy that is not shy is has all the confidence in in the world kicking those long deep you know fifty plus yard field goals between thirty and forty ooh yeah. He's like he's like golfer that can drive down the middle of the fairway forever but he short game is all over the place in tom..

"That's why they got him. You know, I've never I don't know if I've ever known case quite like this where they went out wanted to draft a backup for a player. So they went out and got one of his backups from his college career, literally his backup. Yes. You have. You have more experience at this specific role than anybody. Good. Good call. I mean, it's it's fair. Okay. So Tony Pollard, by the way, and you do have have him listed as kick return. I haven't seen. This point mentioned Chris hall was on hanging with the boys. I'm not sure if you saw the whole thing time, and he was asked if Pollard would also get in on punt returns. And he said, I'm not sure about that quite yet. Which makes me kinda think that they really just want him for returns. I I would not be shocked if they will all be kind of scratching our heads saying, well, what do you? Why isn't he on? In for whatever reason they're a little bit more precarious with that as we've seen. They didn't let Ryan Switzer DuPont returns a lot as a rookie, which you know, was kind of obvious. Why against the Rams, but in it's been two years to get over that. So speaking of rookies, though, tristen hill, obviously, the couch I pick and obviously haven't make the team. I mean, that's not a shocker, and you have him making the team as the fourth defensive tackle, you have Tyrone Crawford this detained for what it's worth. And that was just a matter of trying to figure out how to fit all the bodies in. And he may not necessarily be Antoine. One would as backup his Mark. Don't see it that way. What I see in carrying the way, it really would be structured, and it just you couldn't really make this lineup on the chart. They're going to carry woods as a true one tech. Right. Going to have me Collins and tristen hill as primarily three Tex. Then they're going to have Tyrone Crawford still playing that kind of Jack of all trades. He may see a little time, you know, on the outside, but he'll be working allot inside. I think go see carry higher doing a little bit of that. And I this is I somebody has been proposing this I can't remember who's been pushing it so much on Twitter and apologize. But. I think that taco Charleston is going to kick in and play a little tackle. I just I I mean, he doesn't seem the taco thing is is its own thing. You know? I mean, as you're well aware, I I don't see him from the you know, what we get him being willing to do that United. I mean, I I just don't I mean, I would love to be proven wrong. And I don't know. I mean, it would be great. But I I don't know they'll be good at. I mean, I don't know that he's really good good at what he's doing. Now. You know, it's just it's it's a pickle that's tough situation there there are there are people that argue that he actually has some frights are more sued with retake like I said it may not come about. I do think he's going to establish himself, and, you know, hang onto his role, I wound up with ten total defensive lineman as I said because there's like three guys that are kind of like, okay. Where exactly they're going to be are. They really end they really tackle. And that may be a bit rich. I just I think that they're gonna try to give Marinelli the depth work with. And that was kinda give Joe Jackson shot. 'cause I think he's gonna he came you'll he's at that kind of borderline draft status as a fifth rounder in the fact that they're going to really be hesitant to cut him loose or trying to get him to the practice squad. But it's not a guarantee like I think the the second third and fourth round draftees, you know, they're pretty much locks with a cow pass. They just don't cut fourth rounders coming out of camp. But Jackson, I think is they're going to really try to get him in there. And the only could really get him to fit was to kinda at him on that tenth linemen..

"I mean, I for what it's worth I think if there are two positions where that happens based on the town they brought in. I think that certainly those are the two most probable, but I mean, how probable overall do you think it is that both the image height? Make. I would say the John's probably by shakiest. He's like the fifty third man who and there's yell or maybe fifty seconds. There might be one on the defensive wine that may fit more into that as we you might see in a moment. But. They brought Johnson in and the kid from North Texas of Jalen Guidon. Yes, guy knowledge about have to flip over my share. I got his name, right. They're both speed-merchants. I think they're looking for somebody else to take the top off of the secondary. And that to me is another encouraging hit that I think that killing more is going to be making some changes that says to me they're looking to be able to go deep more often because you know, the Gallup can fly. You know that Tabin Austin could fly and I thank Austin. He's another guy that I really had to sit there and mall because they brought in a Tony Pollard who is basically designed to take the same role Austin does. And the reason I think they're going to keep Allston around is just because they wanna have a backup for that role. Because when Austin got hurt they didn't have anybody else to step in. Sure sight, you know. Go ahead. Yeah. That's my logic there. And that's why I wound up carrying the the six receivers. And that meant you know, that Noah Brown of while going, I just I he has been kind of lingering around the edges, but I just like somebody's going to to knock him out. He could come on strong. Finally, get it, together, and fools. Alan Hearns could come back in just claim role because you know, the Cowboys do tend to pale difference to the veterans. But you know, I just that was such a brutal injury..

"Obviously there were a lot of people were thrown out Damian Harris at Alabama who went to the New England Patriots Trayvon Williams wanted to Cincinnati Bengals broke my heart as an Aggie, but this was kind of weird because he does sort of serve a specific purpose, and we have seen the Cowboys really fail at trying to pull this off. I mean, you look at the most successful version of this scat, BAC, whatever you wanna call it was Lance Dunbar. And by most successful. I mean had a really nice game that one time against the New York Giants in the season opener. Now four years ago. I mean, people were talking to high school graduating class ago was how long ago it's been since the Cowboys kind of utilized this to a great degree ever since. Then. I mean, it's been experimenting. Obviously the Cowboys had you know, Zeke Elliot when they drafted him in that kind of changed in and the then they drafted Ryan switch. Tsar, and they thought that was gonna kinda guy, and then you know, that didn't work out. So they flipped him. And they tried to make take on Austin that guy and that didn't work out and. You know? Hey, I mean, it's gotta work out of intially. Right. This pick the Memphis, the Memphis PA. Tony Pollard pick has Kellen Moore written all over it. It's it's you know. In a way, he will serve as a microcosm of who. Kellyn. Moore's as an offensive coordinator. If Tony Pollard is a functional version of the Cowboys envisioned him to be then it means that kellyn Moore's success. And I do have a sense of optimism with this pick. It does kind of have you hoping and believing at least that the Cowboys are going to find that guy that we've seen other NFL teams use that James white sort of player, and it's a really really big name to compare Tony Pollard to. But we've said many people have said, it would be so awesome. The Cowboys head that guy. Just like we've said, it would be so awesome. They had a dominant defensive tackle. I mean, they finally went and did that interest in hill. So I do like that they're willing to roll the dice there. Obviously the college traded back not once but twice out of the Tony Pollard pick, and then they had two picks in the fifth round the Jackson brothers..

"Off a big six. And of course, Tony Pollard went back and had a touchdown run. So he's now got seven he's coming back next year. So hopefully break the record. Yes. Exactly. Right. I was surprised they kicked him day. And I didn't think anybody else. Matt they kicked him the whole game. Actually had a five returns in the game. And of course, he had that one that went back a one hundred one yards. Well, when he gets we know and he's in the open, you can kiss goodnight. He's going to the end zone. Exactly, exactly. So but a lot of people actually calling for the post game show. Mike Norville has some very very hard choice to make. He's got to two jobs actually feel offensive and defensive coordinator. And that's going to be very important role for him coming up. That's a great point, Dan. And when you think about it, the coordinators are the guys that are next to you in the game planning, and you're exactly right and two good guys at are leaving Oregon. And of course, coach Baal is his last game was today as well as he takes over head coaching position. That's what you want to say though, you want to see your guys you don't have an opportunity say for him to get a head coaching. Job course, Kenny dealing ham has already gone to Auburn as well. And this team not a really old team though, Dan, you'll have a lot of senior. So a lot of things to look forward to in the future. I think the one thing may mean all linemen and everything they have three offense linemen that are graduating one thing that I know I'm going to be looking at 'em next year. Yeah. You lose your center. Kaiser would a career he had Tate. You're left tackle the protection tack on that left side. And of course, in Joseph the right side guy, you know, right guard. He he's gonna be going. And then, you know, you hate to see them go at this part of the thing of is, Dan. And and college football, you kind of get to know him they play for two or three or four years and all of a sudden, boom, they're gone and taken their part of next step in life and going after college. Well, I'm hitting the road going down. I twenty two and I've actually been about to stop one of your favorite spots. Water fire to give me something to eat on the way back to Memphis. Heading home. So good game. And great a lot of Memphis. Tiger fans. Let me tell you what it was. It was probably ninety percent. Tiger fans at the Birmingham bowl. Well, that's great. And you be careful going down seventy eight Dan and get back safely EDNA merry Christmas to you and your family is out there. Absolutely, dan. Thanks a lot.
