"Seven that's right to suggest what we show here with you on CBS sports radio a big thank you to Tony Pauline NFL draft expert Colin open you know break down his winners and losers of the draft then obviously we have plenty of quarterbacks who are still kind of up in the air or still will have new opportunities now that we kind of know how things are filled out you know they ain't no veteran quarterback heading to Miami you may have a Jacksonville you maybe have a patriots but the NFL quarterback picture is a lot clearer now that we've gone through the draft and we know where some of these are signal callers are going to end up on the drive side and it leads us you know what with some veterans we're going to have to figure out where and what they want to do all right first of all that leads us with us Janus Winston and pretty much ended the conversation with Tony talking about some of these vets in in Janus is right there and as of this moment right now we've heard about this for full day that him and the New Orleans Saints are basically on their way towards a contract okay and from Jameis Winston's perspective I've always felt that Pittsburgh would be the best shot for him to go out and play you know whether or not Erin Rogers excuse me Ben Roethlisberger's elbow was going to work you know Ben is thirty eight years old this may be the best situation for him to be behind band and then then go out and play but apparently the saints that's not a bad idea either backing up drew Brees who just signed a two year fifty million dollar contract we don't know if drew Brees is gonna go out and and fulfill both of those years as he basically gets ready to try transitioning to TV R. once his NFL career was over and you know the the saints assistant general manager basically said it's a compliment to James to understand where he's at in this world and signed a one year deal here a one year deal here and learn behind drew Brees Brees is an incredible leader he's an incredible study or of the game how he breaks down his opponent opponents and Jamis once then we'll learn more football in a year than he has in his lifetime and you know what I can't speak to that because I've never been in the quarterback room with drew Brees but I can certainly look at his accolades and records that he holds as an NFL quarterback and say you know what this is not the worst situation this is a damn good one to learn from a few Jameis Winston I mean drew Brees was super bowl thirteen time pro bowler most yards passing touchdowns like what more do you want what what was worse that that that that you could learn from if I'm James Winston this is a good spot and this is a good idea you know I know people talk about Taysom hill and congratulations to him for getting a two year twenty one million dollar contract but this guy how often do you see him throw the football I mean he is a Swiss army knife but he ate the guy out there like throwing okay he had seven touchdowns total last year six of them receiving are you only had fifty five yards passing rushed the ball a hundred and fifty six times he's a threat when he's out on the field and you have to account for him but if I'm James Winston and I step into a quarterback room with drew Brees in Taysom hill I'm going you know what I could take this damn god stop when drew Brees is going this is my job good job taste and holds on to take it from me but I'm the starter in it be a hell of an amazing story of Janus Winston can turn his career around and learn from somebody like drew Brees who every time you know this guy completes almost like seventy to seventy five percent of his passes that's ridiculous I don't give a damn if you throw the ball five yards ten yards or forty yards down the field that's ridiculous for an NFL quarterback that's like the gold standard hidden that's seventy percent range of completion and congratulations to James Forbes so we're gonna go ahead and take your calls do you think this is a good move for Jamison and who are some of your draft winners and losers the number eight.

"NFL draft is a raft is a lot to talk about this a lot to discuss we've already spoken about some of the winners and losers but right now on the line we have Tony Pauline he is a draft analyst on the believe podcast network as well as pro football network Tony how are you this evening I'm okay thank you for having me no doubt about it now three days of the NFL draft as a rat fifty five million people at one point or another tune then we know some of the biggest stories we discussed a map at the top of the show what is the biggest story so you I think the president has the biggest story is not a player it's the fact that the presentation went over very well you know we're all creatures of habit especially the NFL and the fact that they had to make really such a change in the presentation of the draft the fact that this event that I've been involved with since nineteen eighty seven has become such a massive pop public spectacle and you know I thought I got a little bit boring a parts of the draft always does but the way they were able to present it there were no hick ups at all there was no meltdowns as people were more concerned about the fact that you know they were able to pull it off the way they did I think that's the biggest storyline no doubt about it that that may have been the biggest story line nobody was shaking hands with the commission are we saw more families and and you're right it did go off without a hitch one of the biggest on field stories that that dominated the show on Friday was a particular part of the open right now was obviously Aaron Rodgers having the look his his future potential back up in the eye with love what are your thoughts on that I think we did William pick by Green Bay you know I know the Packer fans are kind of apoplectic about it I hope we get a quarterback of that caliber and a quarterback that's not gonna be thrown into the fire and a quarterback that got you know so much upside I think you've got to make the move I thought as a brilliant move by Green Bay a lot of people have compared you would love to Patrick Mahomes I haven't but the situation is similar in the sense that Patrick Mahomes came into a situation where Kansas city where he did have to start he could sit for a year and learn behind veteran quarterback guess what Jordan your love you to get to do the same exact thing by the very talented in a very exceptional veteran quarterbacks so listen you know all good things come to an end get eagle backers have to start thinking about the quarterback of the future they went and got the guy and they really don't give away a heck of a lot what is a brilliant move I think it yep you can have the chat you know it's his charisma bench again and Elton and enjoyed lovers in a perfect situation no doubt about that I'm fine with the pick I don't necessarily care for that hi which setting with Tony Pauline NFL draft analyst one of pro football network you said it a lot of Packer fans aren't happy with the result you know what I I made some points it's a go ahead and take a look at the raiders at some of their draft picks as well as as the patriots are there any teams that you look at at the conclusion of three days of the draft that you sell wow they could have done a whole better job I think the raiders were kind of is suspect that think the raiders draft I would agree with you it's a situation where there's a lot of upside there but there's also a lot of buzz factor and you know what it may not pan out they went the traditional al Davis route where they didn't go best player available they went with speed I think the Damon Arnette selection was still to my mind boggling I also put the Los Angeles rams that wasn't really overly impressed with their draft I I think they took guys van Jefferson in the second round two we never ran for for scouts they took care makers ahead of JK Dobbins in round two Terrell Lewis who's really good when he's healthy what was medically red flagged by number of teams so that yeah that wasn't the question I think that's a good pick that got a lot of downside as well most certainly not think when you boil down the rams I you know I understand that Jared Goff is you know he's put away a little bit more money so the team can go ahead and operate but I don't think they did him any favors and now becoming the central point of that rams offense now and I I think they could have surrounded him with a little bit better talent like I said I think JK Dobbins who is more a much more complete back then that can makers as far as the runner pass catchers walls a blocker would have been better off as far as helping a Jared Goff van Jefferson is a solid pass catcher but it's not real fast guy yeah we're talking with Tony Pauline NFL draft analyst at the pro football network you mentioned JK Dobbins he's going to be helping out the raiders hopefully he's gonna spell enrollment in maybe he also spells out some injuries from your your M. V. P. N. Lamar Jackson we spoke about some of these teams that may have missed the mark Toni Morrison teams that you look at and say wow they did a damn good job I absolutely love what the Indianapolis Colts did I mean first of all you look at where that team was in August the day after or even at night when you look surprisingly announces retirement and you look at where they are now trading the thirteenth pick for divorce but there they were not getting to play with the thirteenth pick that has delighted as the caliber account of the force Buckner they needed a pass rush from the defensive line to force **** brings it they needed a receiver they get a guy who is getting consideration in the first round of Michael Pittman junior third a second round Jonathan Taylor immediately upgrades the running game and then I come away with Jacob Eason around four and Jacob pieces got some issues J. could be seen as a guy who needs a lot of work that is really hasn't played all that much trouble the last three years but he got a tremendous amount of upside and like Jordan love chicken pieces of the plane two thousand twenty so he can sit on the sidelines and learn from savvy veteran I like Philip rivers I love what the coasted we're talking with Tony Pauline draft analyst on the believe podcast network you talk about Easton and he became a story line on Saturday the second day as well in addition to Jake from what number totally been enamored with over his career what reason do you feel that they both dropped was it a matter of their physical ability what do you think all he said was probably the most of the debates on countless dress so it wasn't it wasn't the fact that he was lacking the physical skills he can make all the throws the proposition is he basically played one year for the past three seasons didn't play in two thousand seventeen George sat at two thousand eighteen we transferred to Washington and it was very inconsistent he's a big pocket passer that can be all over the place with rose you have to mature as a person which is why he fell out of I never thought he was anything other than its early the early's a second round pick that's why he found a second date Jake Fromm which is a situation where you're from is a solid college quarterback and he just does not protect all that well to the NFL he doesn't have a big arm he is not accurate I'm not talking about statistical accuracy I'm talking about the ability to make NFL passes and and place them into the receiver's hands you're watching from the last three years receivers are always leaving their feet or jumping backwards which leads to a loss of opportunity running after the catch in the NFL it also leads to a lot interceptions and for god's twenty fifteen pounds he's not very mobile forty yards rushing the past three years you're not expecting Jake Fromm to pick up yours with his legs but forty yards rushing means he's lost a lot of you lost a lot of yards because you could avoid that don't forget he had to to open up into tackles were selected in the first round this year yeah he certainly have to protect protection dating back to Georgia what talking to Tony Pauline NFL draft analysts on the pro football network now it's only you spoke about the colts you gave us reasons as to why from an Easton might have fallen what what do you think about some of the other quarterbacks selected is there anyone in particular who you think is going to be a surprise that isn't a true a borough X. cetera you know I I don't want to say that James Morgan of who's who was like budgets going to be surprised but he had the guy that the jets could develop you'll be good number two quarterback and he gave me a god that they trade off in the future and get more in return than what day is it in the draft pick they used on it I also think that despite the fact that people were beaten up on the eagles are questioning the eagles for the selection of Jaylen hurts saying that it would be in the partial ones I like the Jilin hard to pick to Philadelphia for a couple reasons number one Carson Wentz has never been able to finish the season healthy so they need a good backup number two the eagles like Andy Reid well now it with Kansas city like New England Patriots the eagles and Doug Pederson have always done a good job developing quarterbacks Wetherby Carson Wentz whether be getting Nick Foles the play of his ability so you know that they're gonna be able or that the you got to give the benefit of the doubt that they're going to be able to develop jail hurts and Jaylen hurts either gonna spell Carson Wentz on occasion as a starter just sit behind Carson Wentz as Carson Wentz starts and I think what's gonna happen is seeing him as similar situation with the jets and James Morgan down the road bill Doug you can trade you one hurts for a lot more and get a lot more return than what they expected us to do what you happen to begin with also you think we may get all our switcheroo as that value goes up an improvement in a few years time when the patriots of Dolly Jimmy Garoppolo's Jacoby beset naked cell you know you have to be able if you can develop a quarterback you either going to have a good starter or you're gonna have a solid backup that you can trade for something of great value is to J. R. sport.

"So I'd love to know from you and this is we're talking this conversation February but every year coming out of the first round the draft there's always teams that impressed that we have buzz coming off of who do you think that could be this year well I guess the raiders because they got multiple first round picks I think Jacksonville is it's got a sense of urgency they got multiple first round picks maybe the New York Jets which Douglas there you know if if Joe Douglas starts to move around and fill some holes and sign some players in free agency you know you're looking at teams are based here at the bottom eight you know and right now the judge or the bottom even though they were seven and I last year but from up play a personal point of view they they're not well there did that done well so Joe Douglas is a guy who maybe will turn around for all right great stuff Tony Pauline for pro football network will get that interview up at Broncos country tonight dot com and I mean he's about as plugged in into this combine and he's been coming to this for a really long time is almost anybody yeah I love Tony's good dude it's got a lot of good information and get the information you know everybody has overlapping bits of information as far as a go Tony goes out of its way to find stuff that's out there that nobody nobody else has and I always appreciated respected that out of him when we come back Joe Marino from the draft that work is gonna join us as Broncos country tonight and came away this time is ten thirty our top story president trump again dismissing fears of significant corona virus and banks in the U. "Now, probably, but yeah, kinda Murray is he going to be five. Now, you've got a guy that we're talking about Terry Jackson at six seven. Is he too tall? So. Yeah. I think we need to go around. And would you guys trade for Josh Rosen? I I've said it before that. I would I think the dolphins should definitely inquire about that. But would would you guys trade for Josh Rosen? Absolutely. Without a doubt. Yes. I would it would obviously be one of those things where the the compensation that we'd have to give up would have to make sense. But I think you'd absolutely engage in the in the toxin kind of see what happens. I didn't like Josh Rosen coming out of the draft. If you're telling me that the dolphins are giving up a third or fourth or something like that to get him. Okay. I understand that. But I would not be looking at a first or second to get him. I just I don't know. I've just I can't place my finger on what it is. I liked him more than some of the quarterbacks that came out. But I just Rosen never did it for me last year. And I like I said I wouldn't be against getting him. If the price is right. But he's not somebody that I'm going all in to go get if. If he becomes available. I think ultimately the giants give up one of their first round picks for him. But I think a new way of Tony Pauline on here last year. And he sitting dolphins. He was very adamant about the dolphins. Like Josh Rosen. You know reports after the draft suggest maybe they did not. But I mean, that's a guy who went went pretty high last year top ten top eleven. What was he the tenth eleventh overall pick either way? I mean, that's a guy that the dolphins if you can get him for a second round pick. I know that that you don't agree with that. Kevin. But I think that's my ceiling there, and I would absolutely make that trade. We're going to see how this all shakes out over the next three weeks as we lead into the NFL drought. The NFL draft begins route one April twenty fifth goes on the twenty sixth in the twenty seventh twenty two.

"Okay. Giants fans special treat for you. Today. I'm going to be joined here in a second by Tony. Pauline of draft analyst one of the most highly respected and well-connected draft analysts out there. It's only Tony joins us right now. How you doing Tony? I'll okay, thanks for having me a much appreciated. So I know your time is limited. So we'll get right to it. You know, obviously the big question for the giants sitting at number six is is the quarterback question. And and we all know that the reports are that that this class isn't what the last class was coming out of the senior bowl. Is there more than one option at quarterback for the giants at with the sixth pick in my opinion. No, it's Dwayne Haskins or bust. I mean, there's no other quarterback that ranks would have right now. I thought Daniel Jones entering the senior bowl had an opportunity to really boost as dress. Doc the way we've seen in the past with senior bowl quarterback such as Baker Mayfield. Carson Wentz Philip rivers and God's really elevated your dressed anywhere from a half around to a full round. I don't think Daniel Jones did that I like what I saw from Daniel Jones, but not comfortable enough. And I don't think he should enough to move from a bottom half around water bomb. Third around one guy into the top ten. So where I sit right now, it's basically Dwayne Haskins or bust as far as the top of the quarterback classes concerned in the first ten selections. Are you, you know, one of those people when you look at it who thinks that that the six pick for the giants, you know, really needs to be a quarterback. Not necessarily. I mean, you know. The number two pick last you need to be a quarterback. And that answer was no I mean, people have set because the way they saw Sam darnold pay or giant fan. Some some of them are so upset because the team that shares the stadium with the giants. The jets grab the quarterback who showed some good things. But the fact is Sam darned all was the best player in the I'm sorry sikwan barklay was the best player in the draft. And he played like the best player in the draft. So does it need to be a quarterback not? If there is you know, if a guy like quitting Williams gosh forbid falls into the giants laps at number six quitting Williams is much much higher rated than Dwayne Haskins. And I think you have to you know, you you wanna fill needs. But if you continue fill needs by taking subpar players or players that are great a much lower than the one who are available to you. You look back with regret because sometimes those players that you passed on turn out to be absolute stars. And you fill you fill needs with a bunch of media. Okay players. I'm not saying that Wayne Haskins is mediocre, but you know, in this scenario if Quinton Williams or somebody like that falls into the giants lap. They're much higher rate. I think the giant better off going with best player. Vailable your this is an argument that I have with fans all the time when it comes to, you know, best player available and how the draft works because you know, I'll have people on in my Twitter feed say, well, we need to take a quarterback in the first round in a linebacker in the second round and cornerback in the third round and on and on. And it just doesn't work that way, you may have needs in certain areas, or you know, things you'd like to accomplish. But, but you can't pigeonhole yourself into you know, certain positions at certain times is that a philosophy. You would agree with within reason? I I mean, if I if you've got a really good running back and your call to the clock and round one or two in the top player in the boards running back. You know, you're not gonna take top running back. But if there's if the. If the spread between the player on your board top learn your border running back and the next player is significant. Well, you may wanna try and consider moving down a few picks..

"To a baseball season and that's neither here nor there i'm not crying for and there's a lot of good things about it but it is it is definitely something to to not forget about when you realize what they go through and the decisions they have to make every day and you expect them to be sharp and expect them to be right and a lot of times they're not right don't think for a second fatigue isn't part of that jetsgiants we're gonna talk to tony pauline next hour about what he expects in the draft and how he expects the draft to go and whether he expects any deals he you can follow him on twitter at tony pauline he is draft analyst dot com and we'll talk to him about just how we think it will play out just talking to fliegelman he's happy with enough of the quarterbacks and he watches a lot of college football so he doesn't think the jets can screw it up really unless they trade down and don't address it or they don't take a quarterback which is seemingly impossible given the circumstances that they are in and the giants course have options and again it's more than anything else to me the short term nature of the nfl gives them options if you were really worried about the long term you've pretty much have to take a quarterback with a thirty seven year old quarterback hasn't won in a long time you know they've played one playoff game in the last six years folks one and they lost it and they lost a big to green bay and people want to talk about he li manning in a.

"A long term deal for any of the three quarterback set or under contract march fourteen th and they be um maybe another one who becomes a free agent another one or two a and it's funny i mean you know quarterback such a coveted position normally the market in terms of free agency for that position is basically nothing uh when it comes to starting guys you can find a good quality backup or to every now and then like the vikings found case getting them last year uh but this year is different this year is it appears that there's gonna be a pretty good market for starting quarterback some but certainly makes uh free agency interesting well i well i i think that's more mike uh for teams that don't have quarterbacks in the teams weren't good for us given up that type of money but when you talking about teams like the jacksonville jaguars who saw what the deal ablaze bortles minnesota vikings i think they fallen at same category because the team is so good if you over pay a player quarterback for example and they don't get back to that same place that's a failure over season in plus you screw up to salary cap for the next couple of years of course if you talk about a 150milliondollar deal and then you don't know for sure if this is the guy for the future in the chemistry is going down the toyed it so do you go on spin that type of money or you displayed a game like we saw jacksonville do by saying you know at which is given guy a twoyear deal allow the first should be guaranteed money and let's go for man win because middleton nfc championship without let's just say corner quarter some say a great quarterback yeah yet.

"We had a chance to see these team do last year start with jerry gulf think offensively hands down the best in the game when it comes to getting touchdowns regardless of they don't have a household name play like a julio jones the defense he's in mentioned way phillips being able to to create some things starting with aaron donald in and movement for with the other players on their defense give me your take do they have enough to make a move forward to becoming the best team in a division it because you see what's taken place in san francisco you know seattle's colombian a hot uh you know arizona agents a quarterback away from being able to compete with a be strong enough of what we've seen so far to be the best then west yeah it's a really interesting division forgive turned upside down almost you know so wherever but he was looking at arizona and and seattle just a year ago and now the ramps diners look like they're they're the p authorized so certainly a an interesting dynamic and the way that that's changed and that's not to write off you know the seahawks in the card goals certainly those are two two great organizations but i i think the rams the right there i mean they're they're core guys the guys they're also young they all could still get better and he jerked off had a great season but uh i think there's thinks he can improve on i don't know whether there's a whole lot of talk curley can improve party at a pretty pretty darn good year uh that's that looks like a complete package to be but but certainly can maintain that level uh they have some general receivers you don't have to keep sammy watkins and that's going to be a question here going forward over the next month fate you know they can get a little bit more out of that receiver robert look had a really good year for the role that they asked him to play uh they can get more out of safety watkins and they can probably get more out of kusukawa.

"You're listening to nfl nohuddle dump podcast with brian wherever the talk show we talk and former pro bowl steelers quarterback kordell slash stewart kitchen popcorn ready nfl nohuddle there's live weekdays from four p m to seven pm eastern while the nfl onto twogame your everything audio app low welcome to nfl no other the podcast i'm brian weber alongside kordell stewart on today's podcasts we're going to talk draft with tony pauline for draft analyst dot com and spotlight the minnesota vikings with mike wabc y'all from the vikings entertainment network in brian let's get the podcast started today would rich hamon from the osi register rich thanks for taking the time mature the rams did their due diligence but do you have any sense if they have concerns about the off the field issues marcus peters dealt with in kansas city apparently many other teams around the league we're not interested in making those deal ride i certainly don't think they're blind to what happened with college days it it it can have to have your head of the the not aware of of the issues but i you know you you have to believe that they've done their due diligence thought that uh talk to have that kind of found out what the issues where there were there and at how they can resolve them going forward it it certainly is a risk reward i mean you don't get a player of that calibre uh for the price that they got him at you know without taking a little bit of a risk but they think there that it's worth it uh they think that they have a good support staff in place would you talk about you know not only sean mcveigh but probably more importantly uh wade phillips you know probably the most respected the defensive coordinator in the nfl uh but now they think they have some good they they really liked your secondary coach aubrey puzzle they they think he commands a lotta respect from the players so the ramps think that they can kind of you know give him a gift marcus a little bit of a fresh start uh bring him into a different situation give him some good support in in hope it works out but like i said you don't they could lose like that without knowing that there is some risk involved.

"No no concerns about that for barkley at the next level maximum some barkley how big and how important it is for these first few teams you talk about the cleveland browns were there may be a chance you talking about the giants were you know he's really really needed in annapolis where he's really really needed does the offense lineman because it does it make a big deal would grabbing a player like a sequel barkley because he has dynamic but understanding he needs protection to be the get between those tackles ally she said dallas cowboys when you think you ellie yeah yeah i mean he could be to be a factor in the the irony is is you know the cleveland browns have some good offensive line so it would keep a good fit as opposed to the new york giants who not only would need to say quite bluntly but also need some up into line with the block form so i i think it's something that you had to be factored in i don't know that it's a deciding factor but it's something for consideration you know a you you you drew up the good running back you'd better open you better get some good offense lamin open all form just like you know you drop a quarterback girl you better go to be better have a good tackler protect is light side no date if you're thinking about other bigname quarterbacks when you look at ucla quarterback josh rose and what concerns you more his polarizing personality or the injuries he suffered playing for the bruins they concern me equally i mean all things considered it you're just gone up the game film josh wrote that it head and shoulder the best quarterback in this draft either pre it passer he the most accurate guy he he really get to between the ears better than any of the quarterback in this year's draft he did a great job commanding in controlling that ucla offense you know they would scored thirty eight gap point to game the offense and defense would give up 39 points a game but when you look at his pat placement is accuracy is head and shoulders above anyone in this year's you're up in fact it's head and shoulders above a number of quarterback to have come out the past ten years the personality issues i mean that's all in the eye of the beholder.

"Taking a day and age of of a hard salary cap for rookies it's not like the old days where the topic was getting a sixty five to seventy million dollar uh a contract over the course of these uh over the course of his first contract show and there's a lot of pressure i mean if it sandar and all of us josh allen it's not like the the browns have an established veteran there that they're going to be able to ease a young guy in say like the situation with the new york giants and that'd be like manning if they take a quarterback he's not going to be required to play right away and they take a guy right away a quarterback right at the top you know more than likely he's not only going to have to play right away but he's gonna have to produce uh immediately or you know you're going to start to hear that who's an hour and so i i think it is a situation where there's a lot of pressure if the quarterback is taken with the first selection especially when you got the fact iran that franchise his needed a quarterback for almost a decade now all good well good for tony paul from draft analyst dot com tony i appreciate what sake one barkley met the penn state last year with his versatility you watch these games you know the usedom coming out of the backfield catching passes in the return game but already concern relooking just a pure metrics the only at four hundred yards rushing gibbs not at all i mean they were variety offense with a quarterback also ran the ball they played a good defensive conference i i mean the guy who can run on the inside it got good our he can pick and choose spot you've got great vision he's got to speed to turn the perimeter defended defender like beat beat defending to the open field the run the daylight and as you pointed out the versatility to catch the ball back killed in use it you be uses returned specially you know the fact that often times that they would squat barkley it was feature pavin he either had a twoyard rudder at a twenty five yard run uh but i i think a lot of that was behind that of penn state up at divine that would mediocre a that i have.
