"Solitaire. You know what I listen to your music, I think is the only guy that writes about rain and laughs in the rain. Most people write about lane rain. It's a sad day I'm crying in the rain. Rain is simplifies a a broken heart you you could be, you know, singing in the rain, but you like singing in the rain made it positive. And left her in the rain. And the thing about you is that you can go from Happy birthday, Sweet 16 and calendar girl and write a lyric and write a song that to this day makes me cry and I'm talking about hungry years, Neil. I'm going to tell you something. I'm gonna say something that I don't think there's a greatest song ever written seriously. I really mean that and solitude. That's that's high praise coming from Tony Orlando. But let me tell you How you and I wrote that and his companion, Tory Jamon was in the room when we finished and labor we all cried. We all cried because there's never been a song that dealt with that subject of a couple who wanted to hit the top. Who are striving for money and fame, and when they finally hit the top, they missed that struggle. They missed the hungry years when they were were You know, building it together, So let's build it together. You and I kneel. Let us now play an incredible song with an incredible lyrics and an amazing message. Listen If you're having tough times right now. You may look back on it as the best days you ever had. Those hungry years. Written by Neil Sedaka and how we Greenfield Girl. We made it to the top. We went so high.

"Is Saturday nights with Tony Orlando now that we're back here The great Tommy James. We're gonna have that amazing moment that I promised you before the break. We're gonna play crimson and clover. So here they are. Tommy James and the shot Dale's uhh Crimson and Clover. What is it? Come on. Now, wait. Crimson and Clover. My master suite. Oh, hey. Crimson and Clover. That one. Well, you know what? What do you want? More? That's you, Tommy James and the sandals And if you're just tuning in, we're here with the great Tommy James. But look at you. You picked up sounds you pick up crimson and clover you say to me tell me I don't even know what that means. Crimson and clover. Then you say to me, Tony, I don't know who hanky panky girl was. Can you say to me? You said crystal blue persuasion is not about drugs. What is it about? Well, crystal blue persuasion was about becoming a Christian. I'm not kidding. You, uh, was taken from the Bible. It was the way it it came to me. Uh, we were planning this a true story. We're playing college and Atlanta, Georgia. And at the end of the show, Um I was signing autographs and a kid came up to me. A student came up to me and handed me this poem he had written called Crystal Persuasion. And you know, when you're a songwriter, you're always looking for interesting word combinations. And and I just thought that was a fascinating combination of words. And he I took it was from the book of Revelation in the Bible and I took it. We took it back to the hotel room. I said, you know, we could write this song called Crystal persuasion. We started toying with it, and, um I needed the extra syllable to make the line work. So we added, the word blows crystal blue persuasion, But I just honestly saw the the the words put together and thought it was such a fascinating title. That we wrote it, and that's literally how the song came together. Was one of the hardest records, though, that we ever ever made was very proud of that record because it was so very different from anything we had ever done up to that point. I think this is a moment in time in this interview, where, where we should play that record, so let's just listen to crystal blue persuasion..

"Men that, um, won a Grammy for our next guest out before I introduce him to you. No, This is our segment that we call who's behind the music because I want everybody out there to understand that when you hear these records that you all love, you should know the person that wrote it. You should know the person that arranged it. You should know the person that produced it, because that's an integral part of the career of the person. The artists. Had the hit record and very often they get the accolade and the person behind the scene. No one knows when I tell you that our next guest when I read to you What this man is done when I read this to you for a second Michael Lloyd, who's our guest? You're vice president of a and over engine records at the age of 20. And for more than 45 years, you've been producing hit records and soundtracks earning more than Uber earned more than 110 gold and platinum awards selling over 170 million records. And some of the artists that our guest has produced and worked with Barry Manilow. Mike Love on the beach Boys Sugar Ray loo rolls. Sylvie Vartan, Shaun Cassidy, Belinda Carlisle, The Monkeys, The Bellamy Brothers, the Osmonds, Sammy Davis Jr. Bill Mel, the Medley, My Man, the Righteous Brothers, Debby Boone, Kimberley Locke Air Supply and Frank Sinatra just to name a few. Okay. He was a music supervisor, also for Dirty Dancing, a legendary iconic movie and produced a dirty dancing soundtrack. So he's done the scoring music supervision for over 200 motion pictures. If you're in this business, you have come across the path. Of genius, and that's our guest right now. Say hello to Michael Lloyd. Hello, Michael. Listen, I don't know who that guy is, but I'll get him on the phone center E mean, I remember when you cut bill Medley. And you know the time of my life record, you know, from from dirty dance with Jennifer Warren. That record was so far from what Bill had done before. Could you do me a favor? Just out of my curiosity? What was take us back to when you decide that? Oh, Cut that record with Bill and Jennifer and how that worked out in the studio with them. Would you mind sharing that with us? I couldn't find anybody to sing the someone in the movie. Called Bill who I've known since I was 14 and I said, Bill, I got this movie, and Bob obliged. He wasn't that excited. His wife was having a baby and he need lives down in Newport Beach was about an hour drive from him. You said all I don't know I was I was inducted the dead in here and I said, Look, this is, you know, come on up here and try it out Well, He did, and I talked to Jennifer Warren, and she was the really the only one that said, Yeah, it sounds like fun. No, the talent of Bill Medley, and then Jennifer Warren's church that they can do anything they could sing the phone book. Old soul expresses and seven great doing it. That's why I called Bill Medley, My professor. Very often He'll tell you that I mean, it's crazy. He's just really something. And Jennifer has just a greatest voice just pure and the reason I was thinking Bill Not that he was the last with Lord. But I saw juice. You know Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warren's saying before we belong, and officers and gentlemen while he didn't have a little voice here, that rough, gruff voice and she has this smooth boy, nothing like, you know. That may be something that will work out good here because, you know, Bill is alone but looked gruff and you know, has a lot of people are obviously in toys and Jennifer so pure, so the result is they were able to do this and pull it off in such a manner that it connected with everybody connected with the movie. It just seemed too. You know, have a life of its own. And you eternally grateful that Bill decided to drive up because it's a important moment for all of us, And he just did a kick. Kick out have been Jennifer to do so. I couldn't be happy. And here he was not sure here. He wasn't too thrilled. Right? So you like he backed into this, like all of us? I don't know He wasn't You know, I was gonna come up and do this. You've got to come up and do this. And outside of loving feeling. I mean, this would be his biggest records Saturday nights with Tony Orlando.

We don't rehearse that we We just We are who we are, and we don't even know what they're feeling. We just know what we feel it, you know, And then we just doing doing doing what we do, Uh, I think that it started with us is friends. I contributed to our friendship, and we wish we were best friends, then that we're best friends now. There you go. That's the X really, truly. The answer is the friendship in the marriage is what keeps it the way it is with the two of you, and it's simple. It's simple. Stay friends. Hey, you know, I got to share something with you two that you probably don't even realize I've never shared this with you. Westbury Music Fair. You were to open. With for Sonny and share I was managed by a guy named Mark Gordon. To talk. Familiar name who used to manage you guys right? Used to man. You've taught me so much You guys have taught me so much about life. I mean, your dedication to the Lord, your dedication to your craft, and your dedication to each other is a lesson. And I really want to tell you. I thank you for that. So I didn't mean I didn't mean to take up your time. But I had to share the story with people Listen that if it wasn't for the fifth, there have been no Tony, Orlando and dawn. That's amazing. Well, you know, one of the things you said earlier, Tony was that that we are very religious. And, uh, one of the things that that situation that happened to you that Westbury music fair. Was was, uh, we see that That's the way God works, you know? Yes, sir. Came in here. But it's all you guys And and he opened up that door for you. Yeah, It's so interesting. Yeah, you know, so often, you know, you hear about you hear people say the Lord did this in my life or I had no idea but the Lord had a plan for me and that that is true. And we have found that happening so many times. That the Lord has a plan for you. And you? You don't know you're just getting going out there and doing what you do on then he puts the rest of it together. Well, yeah. You know, I always thought I was going left and he turned me right and I was thought I was going right and he turned me left, and I thought I was going for that show. He said no. You're gonna do this show. Absolutely. It's like they say it's a god thing, and it really is a god thing, and you know, it really truly.

So get this picture, Frankie. Johnny Mathis, Diana Ross, the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, the Miracles Chuck Jackson, Jackie Wilson, Little Anthony Imperials, We all go down to the second floor. And Marie says there's a new group coming in tonight. They call the four seasons and they're closing the show. So everybody looked at each other. They're gonna close after Jackie Wilson never in our history of w I n s radio. Forgive me, Cousin Brucie. But that was the other radio station and never in our history. Have we ever had a record gets so much call in Record that went from zero to number one in a day. This is the most incredible record we've ever had on our radio station. This audience knows that this group is coming. We have a funny feeling that this place is going to shake and rock and roll. Sure enough, The show comes to an end with Jackie and outcome these four guys, and by the way, let me give you the image. That's not four guys standing up there like a group doing steps they were. The first guys that had a band they had a band is pre Beatles. They walked out with a guitar playing a keyboard player and a bass player that wasn't done then. That was groundbreaking. They come on stage. Frankie, This is the truth. I swear. You'll remember this 1962 and out they come and when they started Sherry when you guys started, I swear to you, Frankie. I'll never forget that looked up and the balcony was going up and down to the straight force Sounds of this people, feet who was stomping on the ground and you started with that falsetto Sherry. "Well all right alex. Hey great talking to you again really appreciate your time. we're back for some more design intent. Myself tony orlando. Daniel phipps aaron hernandez and of course the creator founder. Alex you'll have to pronounce your last name for us. Alex this niece okay. Well let's go. The ad is okay so similar site so happy to talk to you guys Maybe we can you introduce yourself of where you guys worked So the the reason why we gather today is because. I won't do this interview because i often have. This kris jenner of You should be working in their constituency our in house because Differences that can happen at the end of doing years of working. In hostile working inconsistency you will have a very different skaters. So that's why. I think it's it's good to have both side here on in this interview. we antonio who Will introducing serve but is basically designed neither at delta and we have a daniel simpson everyone who are like with fund design. Now at so we really to weld one with the in house we've constituency so that's Good interview to learn on the. What are the pros and cons of each side. Yeah i think that's good. That's a good topic. I know i have people asking me that all the time. I'll let you go first daniel since you're okay you've kind of been around in both worlds. Sure i have the i. I don't know fifteen years of my career. Kinda bounced back and forth a little So right now. I'm with access design actually started the company in two thousand and five so i guess Two thousand and twenty. That would be fifteen years prior to that. I worked for a couple of different Companies delving one of them. I worked for ibm and then another one and in between there i worked at a short stint at it consulting company up in the chicago area as well so for the first part of my career bounced back and forth a little bit and then i kinda finally may finally made the decision of okay thank the consulting thing is is a good place for me to rest for a while and so. That's what i've been doing since. Two thousand and five fifteen years running running your own small business correct consulting for various companies all over the country to some more for international companies as well So yeah and for the record. I've actually hired dan quite a bit to do work for me. Working adele so I'll i'll give a quick introduction of myself. I'll give a bit of a history later. I'll let aaron kinda talk about his his role. But i'm antonio designed enter for latitude no dell and i've been with dell thirteen years now but i've been in the industry for quite a long time erin so my name is aaron and i work here with daniel. I had access. I've been here for a little bit over two years two and a half years and a half years and this is all the experience or real real world. experience have had And i know it's a. It's a huge question whenever you're graduating or you're about to graduate or you're in school it's like what wh- what what she do. She go the consultant route or the more corporate route so i hope People get to learn how many years of experience you have in the field. Two and a half advocate. So that's that's you can give us the formula have i did. I have twenty years of experience. In most of it is inconsistency so we we have like like a goo- good of people different spectrum invasions on the same on this. I if one thing i would say that anybody getting out and design new in the design world or even established the design where i think the most single most important thing he can do is make sure that the the mentor that you work for or with is the right mentor for you. I i think that's you know my career was was the last with with really fantastic. Mentors when i would start at. Ibm right out of graduate school. And if it wasn't for those guys in al i'll name them John swansea was probably the first designer that i worked for for a long time who retired from ibm lenovo a few years ago. He worked there for over twenty five years. I
