Keep your mood up. Keep your health up feel good. I'm happy that Catava and heat known Jew are supporting this episode. I'm so excited I have nothing else to plug. Isn't that funny? Needs to be tour dates and stuff and we used to get in a tube filled with strangers. No one was wearing a mask and fly to a place to a room with no windows and just entertain people all breathing the same air then afterwards hug people man. I can't wait to get back to that. I miss you guys I hope you're doing okay. Enjoy the wonderful frequency and love that I That Robin and I created and that I enjoyed. I'm so excited for you guys to hear this one Do Check out activists theology. That's Robbins Book. And in the meantime enjoy one of my favorite conversations on my life. Thank you science Mike for for hooking up get into it air. You're yeah hey look at you you got a real rig. Thank you so much. Yeah 'cause I run a podcast so so I gotTa have a thing. Y- but I don't have a thing you're killing it. What do you use the Snowball Geiger? Oh so I. We were using a One of those blue microphones and art audio was trash. Yeah no I don't even know if ours is good Tony. What's up Tony Johnny? How's IT sounded sound okay? It's it's you know all things considered with the zoom set up. It's not so bad. Robbins is better. They're pretty equal. Yeah right now I mean in this scenario. Yeah maybe because you're you're we're going through a zoom channel every theat everything changes the voice over Ip. I think it diminishes the sound a little bit. Yeah well from where I'm sitting. You sound great and thanks very much for doing this. Yeah well thanks for the immigration. Where am I talking to you? Where are you Nashville Tennessee? That's great I love your yeah. In fact my said that He had passed along my name to you several months ago and I saw that you were coming in Nashville and I was. GonNa try to link up with you but that would have been fun. Yeah but it just didn't didn't work out. I was there. Yeah that's right I was at Zanies. Yep that's one of the last man. I sorta wish I could go back because doing five shows. I know you're a public speaker as well and doing a lot of shows can get tiring and I if somebody had come back and been like this is going to be a last weekend right right. I mean I gave it my all but I would have tapped danced out onto the city so happy to see everybody. Yeah I mean I have to imagine. You're like me in that the next time you're speaking in front of a group. I whether you're in the audience or on stage will never take it for granted again. I'll never just be like okay. Yeah `nother audience. Yeah totally it's going to be so special. Are you from there? I I'm realizing I did some research. Okay Science Mike. Our friend a little bit. But this is sort of an exciting episode for me. I know very little And I'd love to just start with where you're from and growing up and all that because I know we have a lot of interesting theology and yeah some theory to get into. Yep Love to start with you as as a person and a little bit of your story great I love it when people humanized me instead of fetish is and you know. I watched them interviews. And they're like so what is Cui ear and I'm yeah I don't know I would so much rather have your parents your siblings where yeah great was like all that you can take that question however you like. Great Okay I love talking about roots me too. I love it too. I wonder are you do you know the Graham? Oh Yeah I'm a big AD. I'm a big any Graham. Hor Number you said what is your number. I'm five. You're five. Oh Do you know Michael Gungor? Yeah use my dear friend. And he's a five so whenever I meet a five. I go like I like five. I think I'm using the any aground I use it. What's your number pattern? I'm a three year three. Okay Yeah I. I don't know if I'm supposed to apologize. I'm doing all this reading reading Richard Ward's book about the program right now and boy. We're we're a slippery bunch. Yeah it's like the Bill Clinton's and the and the like the people that lied to themselves. Oh my God had a really interesting conversation in my brain this morning where I was like. Where are we lying to ourselves and brain was like we'll now okay? Listen we have things that are true? And you're saying we won't know they're not true because we're us but we're saying they they work and we're like and I'm like wow this is gonna be on. It was dramatized in my head tolling. I don't have a shot. I think I need somebody from the outside. Yeah which luckily I have thou and friends to help out my bullshit but I am full of it somewhere. Yeah I'm partnered with a two uh-huh and hey my handed to Until five thousand TEUs make a very good match. The thing is is fives. Have a hard time recognizing their feelings which is like super true for me. And I'm also an academic so I just live in my head all the fucking time but being with the two who is an impasse. She can feel my feelings before I can even feel though often at dinner. So what's going on and it will take a long time and then finally it will come out in tears and everything that's great. What if yes? That's a great pairing. Yeah I'm happy to val is nine and she By the way it doesn't even really matter if people don't understand exactly what we're talking about we're just talking about personality type. F Nine is I don't even know the one word for it. But she she mirrors people she did. Well our nine's a peacemaker peacemaker they sit under like even Keel. Like you can all. They're solid all the time. That's what that's certainly true vow. The danger of a nine especially when you're with three. So three's an achiever and the five is the challenger now the observer aid is challenger. Yeah I didn't think you were a five. I just thought it was. The academic was the one that likes to question. Things you brought. I go to a I go to aid an integration so I can be challenging. Yes you know but yeah. I'm an observer. Saw Him always taking in information? I'm an information. Horror is what I'd like to say you've been at your double horse so far. You're more information that's wonderful. I go to nine so when I'm stressed. Is that what you mean you go to eight? When you're stressed now I go to. I go to seven when I'm stressed. Whoa I that's a good thing. Seven is the enthusiasts right. Rob Bell is always consummate seven. It's just the guys that like. Of Course They WanNa go surfing right or right and they're so happy and excited for you. seven is my second numbers tied for second But I feel like a seven being enthusiastic. Be Wonderful if you got stressed about your school or your project or whatever it is you're working on you become a seven except except this there. Was this one time when I dated a seven and it was a disaster. So I'm like I want to always integrate to eight. I never want to be stressed and go to seven. Well I'm glad you have some aid qualities because we talked a lot about the Graham on this and I and this is what's great about AIDS I'll see tweets. People are like back off the eights man. 'cause y'all just paint with very broad brush right. It'd be like trump. We think trump might be an aid eighths or the guys that fight but like I know you're theologian saw speak freely. I believe Saint Paul was in eight eight or are people that love to say what they're thinking and yeah wonder what they're about and the right either of them. Yeah what can you speak well of of your eight side? I mean there's a real I mean I mean. I think that I go to I tell people extra. I get paid to extrovert but I'm intense introvert. And so I think you know when I travel and speak. That's when I go to eight and I'm able to say things maybe that other people wouldn't be able to say also a light skinned Latina some white passing and so I can say things that darker skinned people. Can I in crowds of white folks? So I think that's when I go to aid and when I'm able to challenge the status quo in challenge the norm. That's a really great thing to identify and to use some people could be like a the term white passing makes me uncomfortable because it makes it sound like I dunno. It feels weird when a white person says passing but to use the term. They use white passing. Some people would be like. Hey I'm white passing. I'm going to have a FRESCA right right. I'M GONNA I'M GONNA blend in and get into that potato salad and you're like oh I'm white passing. I can get away with more. Yeah yeah I I think that I think that White folks shouldn't say white passing but people of color who are like skin. It's a it's a way to differentiate Like I moved the world with power privilege access because I am white pass eight and so it's a statement of my privilege So I use that I used to. I used to say it's my burden but but now I've reframed it as it's an opportunity for me to use this in a way to help to help create social liberation to help create social healing because as you know we live in a shithole world and it's it's very scary right now. Yeah absolutely. We're very far from routes. I know but right but there is a lot of pain and a lot of trouble and you work at one of the reasons. I'm excited to talk to you. Is You are person that's like you don't just talk about it. Something that I would point the finger at myself as I talk about pain and suffering. But you're out there working for change but I understand. Yeah E. M. I. Wanting to take back that Label necessarily But we're starting with theory and I do want to start with you as a person you. I five of siblings so I'm an only child born to a Mexican immigrant and angle father and I lived with my Mexican mother. Tell us about twelve in east Texas and longview Texas Bay Split Up. They split up when I was. I don't I don't remember my dad being at home ever While they were together I want to ride. It's harder over zoom needed up but if you were sitting on the couch right there which is where we normally do it. I would have jumped in and been like 'cause I'm interested at the age when when parents split up with a powerful thing. Yeah they split up when I was maybe four or five and you know I I have fond memories of my dad coming on the on the weekends and picking me up from apple would daycare in taking me to sonic to get a cherry lie. Made and I know it's horrible for you for your insights but I still have still would love to get a cherry lie made. Of course. My Dad's been deceased for several years. But I have fond memories of that. What did he? What was his vocation? He was a construction worker and self employed and worked very hard. He was one of the first folks. doing back in the day when cell phones were just becoming a thing he would go in and do all the excavation where for cell phone towers so he would contract with. Motorola. At and T. All all the big carriers well and at of the ahead of the curve so he did a lot of construction where I mean he hauled cottonseed when I was very young. He always did construction work of some sort but they split up what I was. Maybe four or five and my mom who has a sixth grade? Education decided to enroll in Catholic school. And she knew that the church could do all the things that she couldn't do that she could show me how to cook. Show me how to you know. Take a bath but in terms of education and spiritual care. She knew the church could do that so she enrollment Catholic school. But I never made my first communion which is something that you do when you're enrolled in a parochial school because you're attending church and getting an education. Well I had theological questions about the Virgin Birth of Man Robert. I love it. I was going to make a joke. But you ran out of the room slippery and wet and like you did like you fled. Yeah just like miss it or no one asked you you like. I don't know about the Virgin Birth. Yeah and Forgive me but that's very very a touchy subjects for Catholics..

He didn't start that far back here this evening. He was In the twelfth spot to start the evening but currently he's broken into the top ten now running in the seventh position behind signed Mark Martin. Little Bit surprised. That Matt Kenseth has not been better than what he's been in the early going same race car that he had it Chicago where he dominated led the most laps finished second. He started the twenty third admitted in our pre race coverage tonight that his team had a good race car form and qualifying. You just screwed up a bit started just outside the top twenty and he has slipped back to the twenty fourth worth position. In fact she wouldn't get a report from pit road on Matt. "I'll tell you one thing. I'm not ashamed to say I estimate of John Sacramento. He has a man just fucking plummeted break. We hear emotional day to cry like a woman. That's a fucking disgrace. It's fucking coach turned into a pumpkin leaving. Cinderella didn't cry comes the daughters. All bets are off scene tougher guys than Jon. Cryer wins. Let me ask you this. They can make him cry and if he's dad week what the fuck else can they make them. Do I gotTa agree with Phil Thome. Oh you do do you even Cinderella didn't cry. I don't think there's been a better line line reading than that. Welcome to cut to black soprano. Sit Down My name. Is Jim Scam Polian. I've seen every single episode of the Sopranos Rose. My Name is Jacob Burroughs and I've seen seventy episodes of Sopranos and we finally reached season six episode five. Mr Her and Mrs Johnson cremony request Dot Dot Dot big big wedding big wedding but who put this thing together Jim. It's such a big production in all these invites who made it happen. this episode was written by Terence Winter who's the Sopranos Mainstay and it was directed by good old Steve Bush Emmy that's right Tony Egg himself as returned back behind the camera to direct this episode so yeah Dream Team if you will very get so this episode it basically is like we're back to the Sopranos now kind of feels like because it's like oh it's the Sopranos and very much for Tony as well well He. He's back to business. You know that's how we kind of start out. He's he's limping a bit but it's like he's back to it and has the reestablish his credit and everything and yet it gets us into the swing of things post junior shootout. What did you think of this episode. Just overall overall. I liked it quite a bit and I always forget like they kinda seemingly packed so much in one episode and I feel like this is one of those where if it even though it seems like it just takes place across this wedding but like a lot happens and especially like not that we're getting into beats but I guess we were getting into beats already but I like the beginning threw me off because it has the bizarre like it opens on the invitation and we see rusty again. It's remember rusty. Remember like back in the days of season five. When you know there was the whole the battle through the boss or whatever and then it does a weird six weeks later and it took me a minute to realize like Oh yeah. This is a nice way to kind of skip along ahead with. Tony's you know health stuff as well. You know it's a nice easy way ties in with everything. It's something they have mentioned is coming up but it's a nice way to pass some time time. Even though at the beginning it threw me off because it's like what was going on yeah I think is mentioned at some point that he's been out for a couple of months or whatever I think but you know who's not out Mr John Sacramento or whatever his name he is not outside still yeah exactly sorry he's still in the can and and like you said it starts. It starts like you remember us. The and I'm like no. I don't sorry but you know it. All makes sense by the end like you said we skip beheads six weeks and we see him. Get a suit and I'm like Oh. It's for the wedding but no it's the suit for the hearing to get permission to go to the wedding showing up at of the you know the the hoops you have to jump through to get this sort of thing approved. Yeah I mean I I. I don't know a lot about Irish courts worth or Swedish court wherever you've been been when you've been picked up by the Law Miss Jacob Boroughs but it's you know it's a whole thing of an image like if you go into into a courtroom in your prison blues or your prison orange. It's like cast the aura of you being criminal so it's all about putting on a suit he's just another guy coming into court to request some time off to go to his daughter's. Wedding makes sense what about so like from what I learned from television as you can make bail and then he can go and not be in lock up while you're waiting for trial but they can do choose not to do you that. If you'RE A flight risk. Am I right. Yes yeah and I think with Jonny sack Tom. I don't know if it has to do with the type of charges that are against him where he wouldn't be given bail or even like a uncle. Junior House arrests type situation where I believe he he'd he'd be a flight risk. There's something that could try to disappear or even make potential witnesses are or what have you disappear or just operate his business in general if he's he's not behind bars so since you mentioned Swedish court I only ask this because everyone really really upset about rocky. Didn't they yea yeah well actually before you're getting sweetest. They wear the wigs the powder wigs they do right yeah. They say the yeah they do yeah yeah every court except the good old USA whereas part of wigs we all know this started saying I'm sorry you hold this perception of us but and also you WanNa pick on me but neither of those will be accepted at this scenario. We don't have any of them oils that don't have fancy courtrooms like this one the big seals and flags flags and it's just like well. Maybe there was no but like it's just a very boring better call. Saul courtroom at most and I don't think there's even like a podium for the judge. There's table sort of thing so yeah I mean I'd say probably most courts even here are not like what you see on TV anyways just lots that what what you see on TV so every TV show has it and I was just saying if they're not letting John Out. Why should we let tap out here and he was a flight risk. Just leave the country. Whitney and I mean I don't know how much our listeners even care about that. But what was what was the point of view in Sweden on you guys keeping a sap rocky hostage ridiculous yeah well He was suspected of committing a crime so they put them on trial. It was fairly quick and we don't necessarily have early. Wasn't it like a month yeah yeah. I people are waiting trials for longer. According to your American television shows yeah okay well. Do you think that if we had Swedish Rupaul or something something keep them anyways back to sopranos so yes so Johnny does get the approval which it's it's. I feel like it's a reasonable request but also it's a reasonable answer to he's going to. He's going to foot the bill. He needs to have stay marshals with him or whatever to make sure he doesn't just take off. I feel like everything's kind of reasonable even though like later on they're like John's GonNa fit this bill and it's like yeah of course because most normal people wouldn't get this anyways so that's what happens yes in a weird way. I I kind of sympathize with meadows later later very biased point of view which is like her family and people in her group are like using they do this to just anyone unlike say I think she said something along the lines of like you're just you're innocent until proven guilty and yet you have to spend all this money to be able go to a wedding and all that yeah like you said it all seems kind of reasonable and he's kind of happy with it not realizing the at the time how much is going to have an impact on the day. Yes yeah okay so yeah then we have we meet muscles. Marinara which is Tony's new driver. I forget his actual. They call him muscles. Marinara one points. I didn't just make that up as a racist way to describe him. I forget his his his real name but yeah very and Nucci or something like that. I'm really showing my callers orders today with the names. I'm sorry you had the name before Yeah I'll and in Ziada Perry Ziada but yeah he comes to pick up Tony because yeah. It's Tony's only first day at work. Carmella makes the comment like it's like you know you had enough to first grade or something and you know she's the moms and off to school school because like the common thing throughout this episode is basically image and it's all about. I guess perception and I guess maybe being that Alpha because between or what's considered like the masculine alpha between Tony Johnny and then to another extent veto. I as we see yes and so yeah. He's he's in the car with. Perry muscles will call them and kind of talking about yeah. There was a time I could bench just like the lied or and what do you bench bro. Already looking at his muscles which features heavily later on so they get cut off and traffic and your muscles pretty hot headed about it. He's about to fight some some roof layers or whatever and he's like hey hey. This guy is great. Bryan me young myself and yeah I mean. Tony's also like when essence questions there's definitely some insecurity as well like already even before thinking about how how he looks in front of everyone else because I feel like he's like like you said they shove peaking at his muscles and then asking about benching and then talking about how he's gone onto the gym and stuff like that you know he's got a he's becoming an old weak frail man. Let's let's not beat around the Bush here yeah and interestingly. He's not actually driving him to work. As far as I always driving his therapist that's right so got a love toadies opening line line of like any chance of a mercy folk and the most Cadillac Israel like weird funny. It's funny how things things have changed over the years. Yes yeah and what are they kind of getting into here. Beside I mean I remember the mercy fuck. What is he talks about like nightmares in a good. Yes she kind of wants to dig at this thing that he got shot by his uncle and Tony as he's wanted to kind of clams up but in a way hey it's not that he's unwilling to discuss it. It's more that like he has been carried by this great wind of being happy to be alive all of a sudden and he's not gonNa go around and pity for himself whatever I I'm pretty sure he quotes that some point but yeah no he just seems kind of Smiley happy. She's digging for negative stuff and yeah. He just wants to pick up an he wants to talk about Aj how AJ's flunked out of school and that's what they get into which is that like he thinks he as the loser for working at blockbuster and so Melfi Canada tries to angle it more like isn't it kind of a good thing that he's not like because it was a one point trying to buy a gun to get revenge uh-huh. Yes yeah remember that not the Tony knows that but like she gets into that and Tony wants to describe this thing with junior as domestic excuse disturbance or whatever victim to abuse or domestic violence. You don't think it will happen to you. I Ah I forget if it's here or not but when they kind of bring up you know this is the second time and he's almost kind of saying like you know you warned me. I feel really bad that I mean I guess Melfi would know the extent of this that no one kind of understands hands that juniors not junior like they're just take people are just immediately. Wealth Junior tried to kill Tony again like this was his master plan. All along young was to be on house arrest and hope that he could get tony alone one night so he could shoot. Oh Mike I mean I guess it's it's easier to to for me to say that when I didn't get shot by junior but you know have some compassion and understanding for this poor man this poor old man who's not himself but yeah. I'm sure they'll get into that more throughout the season yeah and Melfi remeasured. She's sort of trying like to say that. Maybe this is the way for. Aj Learn from your mistakes which is a bit harsh but she's saying that like the ready abundance of weapons the ease going to violence the things people do and your crew..

"Web to watch art instruction videos by the top frozen comics animation character design and concept art in this podcast. The brothers Bancroft Bancroft helped celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the founding of Don blue productions makers of great films like the secret of now an American tail the land before time a and more with an interview with two of the key founders John Pomeroy and Gary Goldman enjoy and now here's the bancroft rough brothers. Hey everybody and welcome back to the bancroft brothers animation podcast from yeah. It has just went silky smooth on that anyway yeah. It's not good to that's right. It has been a long time since we've been together. We had a summer on the go on the move. You've been traveling a lot. I travel out you spend some time. Italy and it's been like silly silly traveling yeah and I've been to China been to Italy myself and different parts of Italy. You actually weren't foreign. I was YEP Sicily but at different times it's been. I don't know what's going on this summer but I can tell you one thing. My wife's a little upset yeah. I can imagine that yeah although I took my wife but it's the couple I didn't that hurt what is done for our podcast so thank you listeners for hanging with us this summer because we've had to do a podcast separately. Tom Recorded somebody himself in Italy and other places. I've done some myself this summer and the first time back and this is a great well back Tony Johnny so on our end back. This is going to be a fun one because we have two guests and but on our end it's Tony Nice sitting next to each other. I am down here for for Mike box expo and we're both going to have tables there and we'll talk more about that probably in the next couple podcasts but wanted at least just say that's why not in California California right now to record together by the time this airs light box will be over and thank you bobby chew and everybody that organized that it was great time unsure. We had a great time. Hopefully really we survived. We're just assuming it was a blast. I look talking about the past like we're in the future. Yeah we're talking about back to the future at light box. It was great so thanks thanks for having US but tonight. We have a very special podcast. This is something that we've been talking about doing for some time and I think we should just let me lead. Get in on this because you keep getting this wrong tonight today. Actually the day this is posting this should be Friday the thirteenth we are now how had this is the fortieth anniversary of when the Don blue walkout happened. Rome Walt Disney feature animation back and I think it was seventy nine nine. I might get corrected not good seventy nine thousand nine hundred seventy nine back before most of our listeners were born. This was a historic event Tony. This was the moment where a good chunk of the Disney studio left all at once to go start another studio to basically compete with Disney but not for the reasons. Everybody's thinking right now. This was not really like I hate Disney kind of a walkout. There are not enough for that kind of thing wasn't like a union walkout out or anything like that. There's a lot of greats. There's been stories over the years and I think that's why we wanted to do. This time is that it feels like it's been time forty years definitely early enough time has gone under the bridge here. It's time to really talk about the truth and the stories about what happened what was going on and for all of our younger students out there. Eh that take our classes. Tom And I teach at the university level. I think they want to know because it was such an impactful time in the animation industry it really we set the animation industry in a new direction so tonight we have very special thanks to Gary Goldman the producer over at Don Blue Animation and John Pomeroy that third partner unfortunately we don't have done blew himself he could make it tonight but these are the two of the three partners and the main people that walked out that one day forty years ago guys anything. You need to correct on downright good to me where we started. Ah Up when we started I was annemie right. Gary started out as an animator Walt Disney. She's definitely all right correct that and actually when you started the Dumbo studios you were animated on some of the first features and then you've got ended up producing Gary Yeah well it was a we had a business partner that we we've pulled the but nine and I had to take over that part of the process. You kicked out. Wow sounds like oh yes well. This means a lot to ask and we kind of rambled through that a little bit but you know the animation history was changed range that day and it really was it wasn't just for Disney. Studios wasn't just for Jon Blum Studios but animation history general ripple effects that happen all across the board but what is this anniversary the both you guys me. Let's start there. You know what for me guys. It's like you look at The industry worldwide lied and it doesn't resemble anything that Gary and I are dawn saw back in nineteen seventy nine. It was small much smaller dangerously small competition petition breeds excellence and that's what seems to be lacking back in one thousand nine hundred seventy nine. There were no other competitors really outside of maybe Hanna Barbera with the negation will feature but we were seriously I mean we had law long talks out in the parking lot. Gary remember talking about are we facing the extinction extinction extinction of our art form and something needs to be done to ensure that this art form would have longevity and legacy to it and you know walking out was not our first option when we first started working in. Don's garage I mean we palled together and we wanted to get the the knowledge that the nine old men are mentors had at their fingertips that was slow in coming to US sure that we're being taught how the you know the basic principles of animation nation how to act with a pencil how to put it on the screen and how to create personality but we didn't know anything about sound recordings. We didn't know anything about contracts with musicians. We didn't didn't know anything about how to edit a film or how to actually put together a film. We didn't know the A to Z a filmmaking for feature animation and we needed to find out because because they were training us to fill their shoes and we needed to have that information at our fingertips in order to accommodate that what about you. What's your yeah. Ah I have great memories of being able to even be at Disney. You know I was one. I think I was number. Fifteen fifteen of the people that were brought in we saw a lot of people you know flare out after the first month you know we always everybody always got two months and going in there. I was in a total panic. I knew nothing about animation. I hadn't seen an animated animated movie. Since I was eleven years old. When I got out of the of high school I went into the air force and I was in air force for four and a half years and when I finally got back home in northern California I went to Cabrillo College and eventually Shauwie between getting a associate degree I went to Hawaii to do. I wanted to get into to what's the one in Los Angeles biggest wanted us to be in a Shard Shenar. Yes unaltered I I my teacher in high school wanted to give me a scholarship there and I I'm seventeen. I'll blow it. You know I'm going to go grow up a a little bit and see the world and when I came back and I finished I sent my portfolio as the chart and they said we love your portfolio but we're not taking on any any new students. We're going to be moving to Valencia and it's going to be called California Institute of the arts when when I went to Hawaii all my professors had been to Shenar. I was kidding. I was getting the same input as they were getting. If I had gone onto Shinohara anyway I got so panicky about making sure that I got through my first and second month and I told my wife I said I've got a listen. You're going to have to watch over our son who is only two and a half years sold that time as KIP and I said I'm going to go to work early and I'm GonNa come home late. I'll be going in at five thirty quarters six and I'll I'll try to be home by seven thirty eight but I have to work harder here to get really good at this and this happened. When I heard Don Duck Wall tell me in his office. He says now it could take ten years to become a master animator and then that was part of the panic. You know that you're you're hoping you're going to be at that point and the other. The other thing was if you don't get good fast. You'RE GONNA you're you're making no money not real money and I had I had been fortunate enough to during my time at university. I was a bartender and I was making three hundred three hundred fifty dollars a week. This was in you know it was yes and then when I landed them him to Disney don duck while told me says well your sour is going to be a hundred and twenty seven dollars a week after tax probably ninety two dollars a week and our and I knew at least half of the people we had an apartment in were on on the Dole they were making more money than I was and when I was working at Disney and so anyway it all started coming together you know yeah and I met Don on loose in the first three or four days. You've mentioned that Gary if you mentioned Don Buckwald and for those that don't know he was he was kind of legendary as being the guy that trained all the out the inbetween cleanup artists right no no he was production manager. He was the executive production. Ha it cody. Hanson and nobody like that ever taught the other anime. The one I think he's referring to gary is the legendary Johnny Bonds Johnny. Johnny Johnny Bond was he taught Fred more he taught any animator award Kimble all the nine old men had to get through training they usually encountered johnny bond who trained them how to inbetween and he confessed you know he confessed candidates and I you know what I never passed on talented these guys. They were their own greatness. I taught him how to flip the pages and draw Mickey Mouse. Let's back up and to start from the beginning. Ah what was your entry level position to provoke you guys in between her between her and mine was trainee. I mean the timing was kind of strange on my part with Gary he came in his inbetween her and then he advanced onto being assistant to Frank Thomas and your sister to him for how many for how long about a year hours twenty two months. That's a long time I mean. That's a lot of time to chuck in with great. I I take it back. I wasn't in with him for twenty. Two months. I it was ten months and then when the Pooh tigger to came up they they they put us in as animators but didn't tell us tell us as animated Ijaw Trainee Program in February of Seventy three and at that time Carey had been working working on doing Franks scenes on Robin Hood Right and by the time I came in they were on like the last six months of production for Robin Hood so with me I was was in training for about four to five months and all of a sudden I rolled off of trainee program and got directly into animation which was unheard of I mean it was it was just it's amazing. It was a blessing that means you're really good. Thank you guys you know what actually I think. The the trainee program got even more serious in between seventy three and seventy four because they realize you know as they were retiring or leaving the industry. They needed to replace their information. They needed to replicate what they knew into the young minds of trainee animators quickly and so I think the tempo of training them went up quite a bit Eric. Larsen was Eric Larsen training the animators at that time. He's a wonderful yeah he was he was the man to do that. I mean there was no one is patient and kind and as giving as Eric Larsen. He was our father to us all while we were in the training program so let's. Oh sorry go ahead. 'CAUSE YOU'RE GONNA say before. I moved up the ladder from being an assistant. You know I I had submitted twenty two animation tests so once a month even after the thing every month I would actually deliver that I would go oh to work at a even when I was working as an in-between it because I had the two months as well under Eric and then I would take my scenes that I was doing each month up to Eric and I was I was always downstairs you and and who worked with you and you guys did the prince in in from.
"tony johnny" Discussed on Buccaneers Observer
"I mean there is the distinction there, obviously you don't want to take it too far. But the point we're getting at is Jeremy as a player is not what he's made out to be exactly exactly as a person, I would probably really enjoy hanging out with Jeremy Koi. Now you one. No. I don't think I would either. But as a person, he's probably a really good guy. And, you know, let's, let's make him not hate Tampa and his family, not hate Tampa. We're adding to it here, but it just really bothers me that one he's gone to an enemy team you to the media's still kissing his, but three media still trashing the buccaneers and four something else that probably would piss me off the fucker remember, I know, I've had all these thoughts today and we get in front of the Mike and they're just gone radio after we after we do this. And how floated it will be like. Oh my gosh. All this stuff. I wanted to say for remember it now he talked about being in the ring of honor. Now here's the thing. Yeah. Now, I think its Knicks that. Well, I didn't think he should have been there in there to begin with exactly I, I think he's alienated. Enough of the fan base with this interview that I think it's a stretch well and going to play for the Panthers. Yeah. That's no, no. I'm sorry. That is a no, no. Can't leave and say I'll always be a bug. And then go sign with the division rival say ongoing to compete with you directly every year that we go to the other division. That's what most players do. They go to the other division other conference. You know, John Lynch went to Denver warrants out went to Oakland. You do not go to a division rival the only time you go to division Rabat's when you say, yes, screw you. I'm in it for me in this. What did he said? I'm in it for me. Screw tampa. But he talked about going into the ring of honor and it was really funny. He talked about his number. He said they, they retire all the players, the ring of honor, but they retired their numbers and now they don't look, here's the players in the ring of honor. This is in the buccaneers ring on. We got Tony Dungy. Coach John McKay coach Jon Gruden coach. Then we got LeRoy Selmon retired number sixty three Jimmy Gyles Paul Gruber. Warren, Sapp retired number ninety. Nine there Brooks retired number fifty five. Mike all Stott Doug Williams and John Lynch. And then he's lumping himself in with the elite defensive players. We've had yeah. It's insane to me. Now, only once Weaver tired are Salman's weren't south Derrick Brooks. Right. So we've got players that are in a ring of honor, whose numbers are not retired. I mean they won't be cannons taken number twenty this year. No, I don't like that. Ronnie barbas. No. Yeah. It's not retired Simeon rice the year after he retired. Jimmy Wilkerson took his number that Simeon rise, Simeon rice did it hell out more for this team than jerem McCoy? But here's the thing with ring of honor, this is why don't think Jeremy course you get in to me, this is the biggest factor. Everybody in the ring of honor. Tony Johnny Tony Dungy? John McCain, Jon Gruden really LeRoy Selmon Jimmie gals, Paul Gerber, Warren, Sapp Derrick Brooks. Mike all star Dugway and. John Lynch all went to the playoffs for the buccaneers. There's not a single person in a ring of honor that did not go to the playoffs with the buccaneers. I don't think you could put Jerry McCoy in there. People say, don't do anything for the buccaneers. All right up to me. I'm like, that's insanity to say that he went to six pro bowls he needs to go in a ring honor. And I'm not even your house, he could put himself in. I'm not even that impressed with his sack numbers. You've been in the league for nine years. Of course, you should have fifty four and a half sacks. And he plays eighty to ninety percent of the snaps. It's not like he's go every time he goes out there. He's getting a sack. He's getting the sack every snaps. You brought up the point about the number because that's to be his biggest gripe, which I think generally about a little vindicated, at that point. That was hilarious by I only heard this when we listen to it a second time, but he kind of implied that Phil made it a thing to get the number you put it out. I want to I want you to end the clip them, given the number way, that's perogatives. But the respect they showed, especially it'd be different if it was a guy came in he signed four or five years, this is a one year deal and you said, because he caused the problem or he really asked, what number we gave it to them. I mean it may seem like it's just a number, but is bigger than respect. And that was a big part of the, the separation between me and Tampa period was respect. They show to me off season. It just wasn't there, so. Okay. Right here, he really thrill. It ain't on this line was like causing trouble. I don't know if you caused a problem to get the number when he asked for just throw it in real quick. So I don't I wanna watch that and see if that becomes a piece of the narratives. Make a thin through suid thing suicide throwing his offensive lineman. So we don't wanna fit. That's journal McCoy's realm, right there, ain't stomping his feet. He mentioned that the coaches were calling other people, but they didn't call him so he knew that they were calling everybody else. Hey reminds me Joe box fan head an article the other day which I didn't hear this in the Fox Sports one interview, but they said it was in there. I think that McCoy and James Winston have been talking on the phone. Like almost daily or something, I don't know. Yeah. I know that's a really good way to poison Janus Winstons McCoy said in interviewee said, I am it's time for James Winston to mature and grow up. I said about himself. He said, I think I laid a big enough foundation for him. Now he just makes everything about him. We've turned on about this for a while. I have two more points to make and then we can wrap it up where you know, this is going to be going on all year. And I hate to say it, I know if you're a McCoy fan or if you just sick and tired of here McCoy, the McCoy and sue battle is going to be going on all year. It's going to be in the national media for whatever. The buccaneers can't get national media attention by mcquaid. Can't seem to keep the buccaneers name out of his mouth. He the he, he thought this interview Al he sought these questions out. He's not the questions out. He wanted to get his of the story out there, right, which we gotta remember it. This is his side of the story. It's only. Half which I think it's funny because you could tell offseason he was just inching to get out there and be able to say it was Kelly him to be office social media and to get radio. Silence. From the organization. This is going to be so great man week to is going to be one of the most awesome games. The buccaneers have had in the past decade easily hell maybe pass fifteen years. I think BA is playing his mental games with McCoy. I think he has been the entire time and this is just an extension of this. He's not gonna acknowledge it. He's not gonna talk, he's not gonna say anything about Shannon Sharpe lead McCoy into say he said, you know, well, McCoy said, this be being Bruce Arians, doesn't own me. He said, this, a few minutes before Shannon Sharpe said, now, Jason light knows you, but be doesn't say, do you think it's who do you think it is in this come from? So McCoy's implying that it's the a I thought that's what I got out of it. You could just as easily get he's blaming light or lights, even more responsible, because he knows McCoy could go either way. But I think that he's trying to pin it on BA just because of Shannon sharps question. Interesting man. I can't wait to see a be as got lined up for all this mess. Yeah. He is. I think he's just gonna pancake McCoy like he he got under his skin. Clearly, we'll McCoy's only gonna be playing probably third downs with Carolina. He'll be in spotty. Like I said, he's only going to get probably less than fifty percent of the snaps easily out, dumb, I'm thinking somewhere around thirty five forty percents of the snaps defensive snaps and he's going to be in a third downs passing situations. BA is going to have these offense of Lyman keying in on Jeremy McCoy to just pin take him, you know how to beat nice too easy to be. When you know how to beat him is really meeting, and they're just going to what we know Alamar pet can whoop McCoy's, but we heard that for years in training camp, then Allie Marquette was just throwing McCoy all around. And then is more inferred. He's an unknown. We know Jensen can probably do it to Jensen tough-guy McCoy's not a tough guy gentle, the probably kicking a couple of times in the change strapper or something. I don't think he's gonna get the Winston and all, but I think that is going to have some stuff in place to mess with. I think so too, but I also want and put it past riverboat Ron to try something with McCoy, some special that's gonna be a good battle the minds between river, but around the as got him all day he really does. I'm sorry. Yeah, I think the only coach and our division, that's even close to be as level of psychological warfare, sportsmanship is bliss steel. Al Peyton idiot, Sean Payton jerk off. I heard you, divorced as wife and then went down to the Bahamas and was like partying and hanging out with young girls and resilient. Now, I think a couple of years ago, it was just a it was probably just a comment what you're the one that loves to point out how stupid jerk breezes for blind that what fifteen million dollars arissa piece of the door. He spent fifteen million dollars on because the dribbler told him they win appreciate valium now, jewelry who ever appreciates in value. You can spend like three thousand dollars on a diamond ring, you're never gonna resell it, you might be able to pawn it for like one hundred and fifty dollars jewelry is not an investment. I don't buy real jewelry, because I'm like, I'm a lose it for one and for two, I would never get my money back on. I don't buy real jewelry, because one I'm cheap. Two though you'll lose. So, yeah, so drew Brees spent that much fifteen million dollars fifty million dollars. Sizzler Joel Muller because they weren't worth fifty or because they didn't appreciate a value or songs. I think because he couldn't get insurance on them or something like you have to get at appraise to get a disturbance on it. And I think they didn't appraise for scammed. Yeah. One in two. He bought fifty million dollars worth of jewelry. Right. God, what India, I'm serious? What idiot if he didn't have football he'd probably be I don't know. Don't offend anybody here. I was getting ready to say like a street sweeper, but I did street sweeping and I actually quit the job because President Clinton got on TV and he said everybody from the president to the lowly street. Sweepers and I love that job. It was a great job. Great GAAS work with it was great and ages hit me, I was like, wow. I mean this was in my early twenties. I was like, whoa. I'm looked down upon. Society. I'm like bell bottom. So yet garbage man straits waivers I was a straight so waiver. So, yes. That's why I'm sitting here, only street, sweeper lowly favor lowland there. Maybe if he hasn't said lonely, when of course, you could himself up top. He was like from the president, which was home to the no release. I mean, I'm like down at the bottom stairway up at Clinton, I was gonna say, never mind. I'm not gonna saying Hillary must've been getting it from a street. Sweet. I was born. Oh my gosh. Monica, whoever I don't know what a mess. That was anyhow. Yeah. So, yeah, if it wasn't for football, drew Brees at probably I dunno selling ties I operate a cash register. Okay. What's a job that doesn't require a whole lot of in tone? I don't want to say, I don't know podcasting. He would be if wasn't for football. It would he'd be a podcast, sir. Well after football now probably put him in broadcasting, so we're the friend, you've media, he would just have to get in front of a camera and put three senses together. Hey, if Terry Bradshaw can do it drunk? This is Jim breeze. Can you let you don't have to be good at it? Now it's very few of them that are good. Yeah. Very few. I don't watch most of the crap, I don't know. It's fun launching. Chris Collins worth like he irritates the crap out of me, but he has so many sexual innuendos. We have been thinking about doing this. Molly brought this up doing a video clip of all the times. Chris Collins were says something homoerotic. We will get to laugh so hard during a game with him because he would just give it to really piloted on their. He sure is getting Hansie. They just got pounded. He loves to say Pounder. Oh, he got pounded by that guy. Forty seven was pounding him, and we would just laugh Chris. It's a love hate relationship. This Tony romo's crab. All right. Guys tweet really..

"Four. Marquesa racist back. John marks Ike. Reese joining us right now as listen we've been we've had the pleasure talking to our next guest. I few times here over the last year. With eagles winning the Super Bowl. And now I eight maybe heading back to it. He's the hall of Famer Tony Dungy does a great job. NBC football night in America. Tony Johnny Mike in Philly. Thank you so much for joining us. Hey, good to be on with you guys that. I just keep talking. Well, you know, the thing coach just like last year, John, and we obviously recognize notice your fate that you have in this team considering where they are. But not so much just in them. But you know, you seem to have sort of a perspective on Nick that. I don't see I don't hear from a lot of the other national analysts, and it piqued our interest. Just to know what it is that you see in Nick foles. And what it is. You think that makes him the player that he is to be able to accomplish the things that he has. Well, I think number one team really pleased that folds and it's not as if they didn't believe in Carson Wentz they do. But it's rare when you're backup quarterback engenders the same type of feeling as you're starting quarterback. And there's no drop off. And I think that's what people around the country and to backup quarterback going in. They can't play as well. And I think they played well next foles in there as they do. Carson, and the thing that gave me the sense that I wanted to pick them again. The bears is the things that next up. Really? Well, play action pass is getting rid of the ball. Quick. Then rhythm on time. All of those things. That's what you had to do against the bears defense. You couldn't let their pass rush overwhelmed. You try to run the ball a little bit use the play action game. And I think coach Peterson. When when Nick is in there. That's what he lends to. And I thought that was going to give them a great shot against the bears defense. Hey, tony. What what I mean? I think we all see with Nick to where he can have a game where he's not having his best game. And you have to get the various credit. That's the number one defense in the NFL. They play they played really well, but when it mattered when they needed to drive for a touchdown. Nick just seems like that's where he's at his best. What is it? What is it that gives Nick that? It's just a natural thing and everybody else that's on the team. Also senses that too. Yeah. And I don't know what that is. He talked about his basketball background, you know, a lot. Maybe that that one in the last you know in in a tight game. I'm not sure, but he has the ability to relax and what he does. And not let the moment get to man, I think the players on that. And they believe that. And and when they're in that situation like somehow Knicks gonna make play, and we we believe it. So let's go out and make it up. What do you believe he is coach ultimately in this league? He has the potential to be a free agent coming up reports out there eagles may maneuver some things to where they can agree to solid try to trade him and get something in return for him. But he alternately may not be here going forward. And I'm just wondering your thoughts on him. When you look at him where exacting his career. Like is. He a guy that another organization can entrust with their franchise moving forward or do you see him as a guy that's a placeholder? Or younger quarterback until he's ready to take over. No. I definitely think Nick Nick foles is a winner. Yeah. No. The eagles would love to have him. Just in case something like this happen. I mean, you can make a playoff run with dick folk the Jacksonville Jaguars. I would have to think what would be sitting there saying, you know, what we had Nick foles. Where would we be with this defense and.
