"Dodgers. Last night became the second team in baseball to clinch a playoff spot. Unfortunately for the dodgers the first team to clinch is the team is ahead of them in division the giants. It's likely the giants and dodgers will finish with more wins than every other team yet. One of them is headed to a single elimination wildcard game. We'll bomb. Is this good for baseball. No tony not only. Is it bad for baseball. It's stupid for baseball. It's lazy and stubborn of baseball because you want to see these teams at least as late as they can play each other. Whatever round was set that up in this case the naturally championship series. If possible if they played to that so all you gotta do a seat it. that's all just seeded. I mean other sports do. This is not that hard. As a matter of fact there's always discussion for basketball about seeding the tire playoffs. So that you don't have to best teams playing in the second round. You don't want that. And so what baseball's doing here by possibly having the giants and dodgers face off we're not face off. Having one of those teams perhaps eliminate it. It's just dumb tony. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. it's indefensible. Yeah so i don't think it is fair. I don't think it's fair that the team that comes in second in that division. That has a better record than twenty eight other teams in baseball. Yeah should face a single elimination. I don't think it's fair but the question is is a fair. The question is is a good for baseball. And i kinda think it is. I'm different than you. And i'll tell you why it's pretty rare only happens once every eight or ten years. What it will do is almost ensured that the giants and the dodgers will be playing as hard as they can all the way till at least the last weekend. If it's decided in the last weekend then it puts a tremendous amount of attention on that particular wildcard game and it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on either the giants of the dodgers who have to be in that particular wildcard game. It makes the baseball playoffs. More like the. Nfl playoffs would single elimination and to me. That's good for viewers and fans. I know you are steve producer. Eric ride home. You want to make everything. Tv show you want everybody with a tiara. Walking down the boardwalk in jersey city. I'm not with that sport. Sport has its own identity. Everything doesn't need to be a tv show. If television wants to peek in fine but don't set it up in that lazy way for tv is not fair and tony. You still miss more of a good product late in your televisions aid series having the four seven. So that's right. That's an assumption that someone is going to get eliminated. I'll tell you what would be best of all if after one hundred sixty two games the giants and the dodgers tied and they had a one game. Playoff would be in san francisco san francisco when tim nine in the season syria and then the loser that gets bound started that and into the wild card where can lose again now to that drama is worth it to me and i don't really did you. No he's not he didn't say wants to get out of houston in fact he said he didn't want he would work with whatever they wanted to do. And everybody there houston and said he's been great so he's not a malcontent so then why because they want to play two other guys. And i've got the guys they wanna play. In addition to having christian maybe healthy again and jalen green who seems to be a fee nom on the rest. They got kevin porter jr. they got this turkish kid. Who's like six ten. i sing. Goon his last name. They got margin. They're building all right and they don't want a guy who makes forty six million dollars and is thirty years old. They don't really want that guy. So tony houston wants to go with a complete rebuild and a youth movement and wall doesn't fit that and he is said. Okay what do you. How do you wanna handle this so good for john. Wall makes it attracted to somebody else but you mentioned the salary. They're better than the guy who's failing at it but it's only be enemy long as well as a wait for the nfl to come calling. So if a team in the place he grew up we may have. Some affinity is open to him. The and that's a difficult job and maybe as difficult as the nfl job of the outrageous expectations. Yeah i mean. I would say that you know the eric. The enemy is a completely reasonable candidate. Because i don't know if he can recruit but here's what he can do. we can walk into. somebody's house. Quarterbacks house and quarterback says who have you worked with and he says patrick mahomes you ever heard of him. He can trump travis chelsea's name to a tight end prospect. He can talk about tyreek hill too wide receiver prospect. And when he's done doing that they're going to say i'm gonna sign with usc. So i think. I think he has stature. I think he has a certain amount of fame. I think he has credibility but it doesn't usually work first of all. It goes the other way people go college to pro at usc. "Uh, I think Zach Wilson is going to have a big year of the rookie quarterbacks. I think he's the guy. I know A lot of people say, Well, it's New York, and they're so bad and this and that But if you look at the receivers he has he's got Corey Davis. He's got, um He's got the game. Elijah more from old Miss. He's got some killing coals. There. They get some decent receivers Denzel Mims. I just have a feeling that that kid is magical and that he's going to have a bust out your at the Jets. I think Trevor Lawrence struggles. I think fields has highlights but struggles. I think Lance has highlights when he gets in there, but at times struggles But I would say The BYU kid is going to have the best year. Mm. That we might that be my prediction. Who knows? Because it's like we haven't seen any of these guys at all in the preseason, really? Oh, no, That's not even Mac Jones. Mac Jones looks, you know, Greg said yesterday. I mean, If you give them time, and you know you can scheme it up. He's pretty accurate. He knows what he's doing. But I think what you're going to see Sunday's I think you can see Miami's defense. Give him time, but Tom Brady Is probably better than any other quarterback ever seen at sliding in the pocket and just moving around Just enough. He moved. Guys missing by like a fingernail. Just scrape by him to move a little right. Move. The left ahead is always up. And looking downfield. Look at where he's going. The ball he just has. It's almost like instinct, but of course it's not. But he does that better than anybody. I mean. Partly because he can't run and you have to learn to do that. But how many quarterbacks that we've seen? They can't run and they don't learn to do that, and they get crushed. They just have no feel for the pocket whatsoever. They moved the wrong way. They don't move in time. They don't feel the pocket collapsing on him. They just They can't do it, and he's incredible at doing that stuff. I mean, not only is he really smart, so he gets it out. He knows where he's going, so he doesn't have to get in trouble that much. But if he does He just has an incredible ability to slide from tackle to tackle. Just move around a little bit here, move around a little bit there inside the pocket and deliver the ball. I mean that that that to me. There's a lot of things that stand out about him. That to me is one of the things that I just think you just you don't see. You certainly don't see it as well as he does it. They obviously became Hall of Famers when they played. That's pretty good number, and I would think that that's Fairly high and not the high instead of the vast majority of the NFL draft, over the years, all Hall of Famers all eight of them Elway, Eric Dickerson forgot he was in 83 draft. Wow, Jimbo! Covert. Bruce Matthews. Couple offensive lineman tackles Jim Kelly, Dan Marino as I mentioned the great and I believe criminally underrated Darryl Greene. Darrell Green right now could run a sub 5 40. I believe they will. Green is Running close to 55 60 years old. And Texas A and M Kingsville. Yeah. Man, Jones High School, H Town baby and Richard Dent. Those are the eight Hall of Famers and I'm just spitballing here. But Elway Dickerson Marino Green. Those were all Top 100 players in there recently. Uh, celebrated centennial anniversary for the NFL and Jim Kelly with the heat. And I think Bruce Matthews to both of those guys. Might have been the top 100 players of all time, but definitely Darryl Greene, Elway and Dickerson. I'll tell you that it was a mother. Of all the players that I've ever met. Yeah, covering sports. The guy who I just had the quickest affinity for we played in the Joe Montana golf tournament. Was Jim Kelly. And he was in my foursome. I've never seen anybody on like this guy was on. I mean, just he was telling jokes. He was telling stories. He was You know, we were doing a shot. He's throwing back an extra shot. We're pulling out cigars. Wait a second. I get some better ones here. I mean, then we went to Tabish Grill for dinner. He's like, still on telling stories. Bidding on items. I mean, the guy he's like, and he's like, Oh, yeah, I would do anything for Joe. I'm flying out tomorrow. I'm this guy. This guy was so good around people. It was amazing. And then when he got sick, and he had those Kelly tough T shirts and I called him, I said, Jim, can we get Can I get one of those Kelly tough T shirts? And he's like he's like He's like I said, I'm doing the show with Gary. I'd like to wear it on the on the television and show people and see if we can get some. He's like, Oh, absolutely. I'll send you a box. You know, it's like He just was I mean, is an incredible guy. I mean, I've never seen anybody who's so good with people. So gregarious people coming up to me didn't know. Tell him long, boring stories. He's listening. He's active listener. He's just Jim Kelly is a special special guy. Was that just a chance for you to brag that you had Jim Kelly's phone number, and he took a call? Yeah. Exactly. See, Uh, rule of decks? Yes. I want to know how Cruz snuck into that tournament. Yeah. Agnew. So we stuck into that dinner as we didn't remote. That night. I did a remote from Katich Grill at the I was doing the sports found 6 80 thing and part of it was like we'll do a radio remote and agony was like, Hey, you want to play golf? I'm like, Yeah, I'll play golf and I go. Okay. And I walked up. Didn't know whose group I was in. I'm playing with Jim Kelly. And then she was just incredible. Absolutely incredible. I became just like big Jim Kelly fan from that point on That's pretty cool. That's how I feel about Larry Bear. I just feel as though the anytime I'm around, Larry Bear, just like Wow, this dude here he really really knows how to how to entertain a group of people. You should see it. It's like it's a mix of star quarterback slash top notch politician. It's just it's amazing to watch the public. And the fact that we get to talk to him on the regular here on the Tolbert, Kruger and Brooke Show it enhances my life on a daily basis. But if you want to get on Mount Rushmore, if you want to be in the conversations in the bars is one of the greatest. If if you want to submit your legacy, you've got to win, too. And his South, pal said. You're at home. You're the favorite. He lost to Atlanta. He lost to Seattle. He lost to San Francisco. This is a good team They got Hey, have a good enough defense. He obviously has a signature play in the Ice bowl to get in the end zone against against Dallas. Aaron Rodgers is cemented, I think is the best quarterback in the history of the Packers. But then again, Ah lot of people in Green Bay may say far of a lot of people in Green Bay because two Super Bowls for a Bart Starr in the first two and he was the coach might say him. Yeah, and I also think then they would say. That you know that it's defined by age. You know, if you're in your seventies, you might say, Bart Starr. If you're in your forties, you might say, Brett Farve. If you're in your twenties, you might say Aaron Rodgers. But I think about it this way. You know, I cover the Browns for my day job at ESPN. Cleveland s O. The Browns finally have maybe a franchise quarterback in Baker Mayfield, who took him to the playoffs this year. The Packers got Brett Farve in 1992, Okay. Since 1992. They've had a franchise quarterback in Green Bay. Think about that. It has been almost 30 straight years of franchise quarterback for the Packers. And if Rogers loses this game I bet you there will be at least one story written this off season. About the potential of Green Bay wanting to make a shift and going to Jordan love and what is the future and what is happening with Aaron Rodgers? Is that it am I way off base job because that's the debts, the media landscape we live in. If you can sell clicks and all those things, I mean, it would be ridiculous, But there's gonna be things like that written. There's no question he was a first round pick. Rogers. You gotta win this. I believe itself. That was right. There is pressure on here in Roger's something You just said they're 1992. Farve is 11 Rogers is 11. It's like the Atlanta Braves in baseball. You should have one with that kind of quarterback. Play. 51 more that. Yeah, You should have what you should want more than just the two so maybe they win it this year. But I'm also there's part of me wondering whether there's a world in which this is Aaron Rodgers. Last game is back, you know, and people have brought this up with Brady because he's 43 years old, and they just don't know how much you know. He says He wants to play till he's 45. But you know, it'll be interesting to see the quarterback that loses what happens to that narrative when we come out of this game one quick note tight and Greg Olsen announced his retirement from the NFL during Fox Sports Pregame Show for the NFC championship game.
