"You're already taken the right steps. Yeah and for me. I mean it's just one of those things where it's like alcohol. Alcoholism is a disease it's been medically described as disease. Yes there is should not be a stigma any longer whether or not hey. He can't hold his alcohol. Or Hey it's week to be an alcoholic right. You're so weak because you can't stop your cocaine or heroin. Larrikin thing though that's in America due to an international now and the thing is is that the fact is you know if you're willing to face those things and get completely honest with yourself. Man That takes courage dad takes bravery that takes. Strang's you know and so for me. I think you know if you're already deciding to kind of question those things and face those things right in. Yeah man I mean more power to you. Keep doing that. I know there are some tests online like whether or not I have a drinking problem you know. I think it's pretty clear. I think there's one on like the AA website. Like you're really having some issues. Go check it out. It's an anonymous program. No one has to now you know. Hey I'M A. I decided to stop drinking because I'm going to run a marathon well whether or not anybody has to know when that marathon ever is than when you might start drinking again and that's fucked up to them so I mean you know I always say you know. Give it a try. But you know if you you'll discover yourself whether or not there's an issue tonia during this time of like a great there's so much negativity and like uncertainty and boredom as well and you seem to maintain such a positive attitude all the time. How do you recommend people? Kinda like keep their shit together during this whole situation or again. I'm super lucky. Dude I've got a I've got my Aa Fellowship and twelve step program that I'm pretty much connected in daily And this is kind of like what I always say is just trying to be a service. You know yeah if we're if you're at home with your partner and you know they like a certain dish like make it for them and then do the dishes afterwards and don't expect anything in return you know. Just sit around yeah man. Don't sit around waiting for your loved ones to call you. Call pick up the phone. Call them you know. Find a good book you know. Donate to direct relief. Frontline foods the CDC hit that donate button on instagram. Have some other people donate? I see a bunch of people dancing on instagram bureau. Do Your dance videos fucking crack me up? Man thanks to on Instagram at. That's my energy dude. That's the energy I need in my life. Yeah well you know. It's again that Farley deep down inside that Chippendales dance is always in the back of my mind. And he was the best dude for big guy like that. Nobody could move like that man could for man I read need and like every time he would like a late show or something he would do some bit where like he would eat at coming out of the curtains where you would get all wrapped up and on. I mean the guy just is a wonderful wonderful life. Physical Comedy Man. I'm telling you made me wish I was fat and then Jim Carey's the one that gave me like I was like all right now. You can be funny and be skinny to. This is huge for me. This is huge for me and I just before I forget. I've read that you and your wife the Y'all at one point y'all got certified an immunized so that you could actually put in work at the children's one of the children's hospitals in Los Angeles Could you speak to how y'all got involved there a little bit and then also like obviously? I don't know if you can still go do that. Or if you're right now you're working or what but like is there? Is there anything you're doing or that you recommend outside of the stuff? You just mentioned that people do to help out here. Yeah I mean so I had been la in La for whatever like nine years or something like that and the groundlings had this thing where they're like. Hey come to Improv at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles and this was like five years ago. Now I went and I did in Improv. Show with some groundlings members there and I was like I love this. I need more this in my life and so I reached out to our wonderful friends Samantha. Lam who ran the the program in the department at that point and asked if I could volunteer and I think she was kind of like a. Who is this? You know actor guy. He's not real and man. It was like three months of like taking tests background checks. Oh Shit you know. His tasks. Yeah immunizations forms back and forth. And now I went the distance and then shortly there afterwards my wife did and then we've been fulltime volunteer there every Thursday. Whenever I'm not working for like almost the last almost five years now in what? What do you get to experience there? And I've been told from so many different people who do volunteer work inch in children's hospital specifically Exactly how rewarding in the kind of energy? The isn't both needed in that. You take away from an experience like that so unusually Thursdays. It's just getting a check with kids. They just WANNA be kids. Yeah that's I mean. Like the biggest thing there folks. Their parents their brothers. Their answer uncles. Whoever's there with him when a little break in the kids just WanNa be kids so a lot of times you know we go there and we work in the Arts Department? Which always can use more fundraising? So I'll post a link somewhere my stories when we released the right on And we also do big fund raising events for them every year to. We just did a big one for Valentine's Day. They do a march one march makes I think was the last one they did but we go and we usually do arts projects with them every Thursday. We get Valentine's Day cards with a really cool renowned artists. Cheryl Burke came in from dancing with the star diamond art. You know and so really. It's just sitting now in letting the kids talk and you know listening and responding and and ask them about their favorite. Tv shows their favorite musicians. What books are in? And it's it's a really really special experience for both of us. Were were so grateful and lucky that we get to do that and and honored that they have every week. And we've been doing that for for a few years now so Tony. I can't thank you enough for giving an hour your time man. You're the best I wanted to ask you before we let you go first of all what can what can we look forward to seeing you next? I know you and your wife have a podcast gonNA. Yeah Yeah so if you guys on instagram or the website it's sloppy the podcast dot com for a website. And it's at slop the podcast on instagram. And it's I directed at my wife. Wrote it stars in it? It's a kind of a a a parody of goop. Gwyneth paltrow's like wellness odd cast. So it's kind of all these new characters that we've kind of created that the ground monks in my wife plays kind of Gwen s type character skipper. Parvo as these. Dr Pseudo doctors entrepreneurs come on the show interviews them and they talk about very silly topics and it's really great so check out. Yeah Yeah and then I also I just finished a feature right before right before I came out for gemstones called we broke up. That hopefully will be out sometime soon. "Went down with the Town Hall the CNN townhall. And I'm using just so many air quotes on that and my kids reaction to it and then Also norm MacDonald interview with Vanity Fair. So that I think it was just kind of all the crazy reaction to simply just advocating for constitutional right and I started thinking that my kids are getting older and I would hate for it to for them to grow up in an environment where they think that the only acceptable discourse out there is just total unfettered hatred and use an inability to see people as people and just conflict them with issues and therefore making it easier to justify. Now the stuff that you're saying I wanted them to see that there was more out there than the stuff that they see their mom. Get and so that that kind of started the path to that too so I mean that's that I guess my my time with your organization contributed to try to to this book and then where and then ultimately I think kind of my perspective now and that and that report that fashion. Did you have any point of view before like he joined up with the NRA? That were shifted through that experience. Well I've I've been a strong supporter for years and I think there I think with this and walking out and participating in that because of telling you there there is nothing like walking into an auditorium to a black-eyed pea song. Where which was. Let's get it started and I walked in on the part where the guy was going boom boom or whatever he says there I mean everybody was already screaming like we hate you so loud. It was kind of difficult to figure out which part where we were in the song. So but there's nothing like walking into an arena. And you think that if this was in any other situation I would have thought I was walking just you know I had gone to concessions and I was walking into an arena getting ready to watch like a UFC match. But that's because that's kind of how it was set up it was. It was so bizarre but nothing. Nothing really prepares you for that and when you're in it it's it's it's just one of the most bizarre things. I will never and never experienced anything like that in my life but it was just one. It's one of the most bizarre things ever you're in an auditorium and there were legitimately people going burn her like we were in. Say something you know. It was like is this monty python. I don't know But it was. I think that After that I realized that the really the big thing that I think got me through was a prayer and just being chill which I normally. I'm not I'm pretty. I am super hyper person. I'm Tony Energy and I'm like a giant Hodler. I'm just I'm everywhere and I just love doing stuff and I go go. Go go go go go. I've always been like this. And that was the chilliest and this still list. I have ever been and I told run of mine. I'm like if you've ever doubted the existence of God I want you to go and rewatch that down hall because I've never fidgeted so much ever But it was It definitely it. Yeah I mean. I don't think many people can say that they sat in an auditorium and screamed at so is that like by designed was CNN. Running that thing super like they were trying to get to be kind of this sensational thing or did you feel like it was just a crazy showed up screaming you. I think it was both I think that while. I know that there are a lot of people who were not from the community who who showed up and I also know that the network it was weird because they had a political rally Right before the cameras went on and they had like ten and a number of and they were only one political party that y they got up on stage and they were electioneering and Scott Israel was up onstage and they were giving these campaign speeches and it just seemed i. I mean it was confusing and I was in a A room they didn't really have like a backstage area but I was in a room In in somewhere in the arena like I guess a waiting room and Watching on the Monitor and my husband and I were looking at each other like this is kind of confusing because it just seems inappropriate. I mean if it's a memorial then have a memorial but it seems weird to have these guys up there electioneering and talking about voting and all of this other stuff before no. This town hall is broadcast so it it it began that way and then when the camera's rolled and then they played the montage honoring the victims. Everybody there was already really amped up and I really wanted to be generous in giving the network the benefit of the doubt. Not Because I was trying to do anything nice for them but because I wanted to make sure that I was seeing everything and the most basic unincorporated terms they could and there's no. There was no way that that there's no way that I that I could explain. Or defend them and that they really were politicizing as absolutely much as possible and they were doing everything they could to get. People amped up to the point where it was already out of control by the time. The cameras started and Jake Tapper. At one point came back and was greeting everybody who is going to be on the stage? I didn't even know that I was going to be on the stage until I got there the night that was on a Wednesday and then Tuesday they said I was going and then on the flight down there that while on the flight down there they said you're going to be on stage but I thought it was going to be like all the other town halls that you've seen right where whether it's CNN or Fox or MSNBC they have the stage and then all the people are sitting on it right. There's not just like a couple of people there. Everybody's kind of sitting on the stage and the host or whatever's in the middle walking around and I thought it was going to be like that well then after I got there. The producer said No. You're you're actually going to be on stage with the WISCON- Israel was the sheriff at the time. Oh boy.

"Model based upon advertising and subscription revenue to streaming. Can they do it. Yeah great to be with you Paul and Lisa so here we are in the middle of what is one of the largest industries right. There's over a hundred billion dollars dollars of advertising and probably another hundred fifty billion dollars That support the sort of TV slash video media media channel and all of a sudden these massive companies with enormous market caps. You know the names Comcast Disney charter etc.. We all have a crisis beyond existential crisis as they effectively have to swap out their engines while keeping the plane in the air right they've got to support those market caps with a fundamental change not only in the technology of the delivery of their media and advertising but also the channel in which consumers have chosen to consume their content right so the idea being that they are moving online and the question is was something like what Disney is doing so so far they've been rewarded more than other companies for investing. Even though it's not gonNA make money. How long can that continue at a time when there are big questions about how how much subscribers are willing to pay and how many services are willing to subscribe to so look Lisa? This is early days so I think all the people looking at add the immediate subscriber new subscribers in the subscriber. Churn numbers of say Disney's Disney plus APP. I think it's it's way too early to be looking at that. I don't think we're there. In terms of the value proposition. They're still content. That hasn't gone exclusive devante Disney so there still is some distribution rights on other platforms. We can't fully judge it yet and let's face it. We're still in the early days where they're providing subscription cross promotions kind of free. If you buy an iphone you get apple TV if you Disney has a cross promotions with verizon so we are in the early fanfare days of of streaming streaming wars. In fact we're at the peak of the streaming wars. We will be at the peak for the rest of the year. Think about it. When large companies have an existential threat and a rationale to get a consumer product at they market? The bejesus out of it just remember last fall when the twin yes isn't he plus was announced an apple. TV was announced and this year we've got NBC with Peacock we have HBO WITH HBO maximum. We've got quimby so we're going to be in peak streaming worse all through two thousand twenty and beyond so terry. You spent a lot of time with the advertising technology companies that make the digital advertising marketplace. Work they interact. That's really the the engines of the big advertising giants like Google facebook like Amazon. You expect the technology companies big technology companies that have all all that cash all that free cash flow to maybe get into the media business itself into the content business in a big way. Well I believe they're gonNA play a major major role and listen if you set this up as inevitably it is a dichotomy a war it is streaming wars after all right. It's a war not even just amongst the streaming choices but between big media and big tech and big tech has four major advantages. They've got as you mentioned mentioned market cap and cash on the balance sheet up the WAZOO. They I mean they can they vastly out scale. The big media companies and the big media companies are trying to catch up by doing in all these traditional mergers Garner enough scale but even still they do not compare to big tech second. Is they've got you. I Down Pat. I mean your user experience experience on Apple Products or Netflix is just so much different than your average cable company. Even the more advanced ones like comcast X.. One it just. It just doesn't compare they've got those kind of chops so there are so many elements. Why Big Tech? By the way they have the technology at their core they were born digital so the big media companies and this is the part where I put my hand and say thank you very much. Need Technology. The technology native to them. They have to be able to avail their content across the channels that consumers want which is ot and digital and to do that right. There's so so much complication. There's a Luma Scape. which is that diagram of all the players in the space? You know because let's think about it right across all these channels of linear addressable. Ott and digital. I'm getting a headache just talking about it. There's different parameters and identifying who a person is there's different technologies to deliver the ads and it's just a whole bunch of conflation conflation that needs to be sorted out Terry. I'm struck by your expertise being absolutely perfect on a day like today for a variety of reasons. You specialize in coming up with valuations anyway. Shins of what companies may become and as they become the future and I would love to get your perspective on Tesla because right now nobody can justify the valuation based on current fact. How does one go about understanding value? At a time of transformation company that harbors for is at least a dream if not a reality so what what what you're referring to. Lisa is the complex art of valuing innovation and I call it art because because for most mature companies with demonstrable financials and revenue and cash flow that we can all analyse and and compared to other similar companies most of the valuation work. We do on those kind of companies. I would refer to put it in the category of science science math. It's comparable 's and plus or minus ten twenty percent. You're KINDA GONNA get it right there right ish when you start talking about the companies that actually that I deal with that get sold for twenty times revenue and people say to me why did so. And so pay twenty times revenue for that business. This is my answer is because they didn't twenty times revenue that it's not as they did it. As a multiplier to get to the valuation. We started with. What is this worth earth to you figure out the valuation and then it's it's division to find out what the multiple was so when you look at a company like Tesla I mean it's basically the future? How do you value the future? I mean if you were to ask people rational people are we moving towards an e an electronic future. The answer's yes so it's just hard to nail down. It's not science Terry. We've got to have you back and Tony Energy. I think about talking about this topic. I honestly it's it's such a pleasure having you From every perspective Terry Kuwata founder and chief executive officer of Luma Partners Investment Banking in New York talking about the intersection of Big Tech Big media.
