"Of a long process to loosen the grip of the pandemic. CBS Medical contributor Dr David Vegas now takes a look at the process and how long all of this will take. He spoke with CBS this morning anchor Tony Dick Opal. Over the next weeks, we'll vaccinate 1 to 2% of the U. S population, so it's a very small number. It's probably going to be toward the end of the spring. Beginning of the summer, where we start to see the vaccine having a significant impact every week. We're going to save lives every week. We're going to protect people, which is critical. It's gonna take a while to get toward that 70 to 80% herd immunity, which we really require in this country, And when you think about a return to normalcy, Dr. Anthony Fauci, for example, was saying Mass will probably be worn through 2021 or near the end of 2021. Define normalcy for me. And when will we meet it? What we know with these vaccines is is that in most people, at least we know is that it dramatically lowers the virus level. We don't know if there's not the street blocking asymptomatic spread. It probably does, but we don't know yet. But there's going to be 5 10% of people who could get a mild cold and those people are contagious. So you need to wear a mask until the numbers come dramatically down toward the end of the year, and there'll be a new normal the new normals like Asian countries. Where When you're ill, you wear a mask, and I hope that continues forever and that we can stop spread of other viral diseases. Also, how are you feeling about next summer? A lot of people kind of mentally you're thinking Well, at least by next summer, there will be movies will be baseball games. They'll be barbecues will be birthday parties. Weddings will be back. Do you anticipate the vaccine opening up that closed world to us? I think the announcement by Live nation a couple weeks ago is saying, you know, if you come to our concerts sometimes 2021 you have to have a certificate that you had a vaccine so there will be certain privileges. If you will, to people who've received a vaccine. There'll be mass vaccinations, hopefully that most of the country will be vaccinated. April May, June timeframe and at that point, I think we're going to see some loosening of the restrictions will still be wearing masks will still be socializing, distancing, but we're gonna enable much more gathering say, a more normal not a normal but a more normal way of life this summer. "Sky SOX baseball, on Xtra. Sports thirteen hundred The sky SOX. In today's interview segment. We're talking to Tony Dick's the brewers. Roving outfield and base running coordinator Tony a welcome to Colorado Springs thanks for having me what's, your schedule like during the season I know as the, roving guy you're jumping around to the different affiliates. And in spring? Training, you're, dealing with a lot of the major league guys but. Now you're more on the player development side is that correct well basically we're always. On the player development side, during spring training we just give a helping hand to the major league side whenever they need us. But for the most part our job been tells us always traveling to the. Marlene affiliates and evaluating players as an outfield coordinator I would imagine more. Of the fundamental work is done at the lower levels hopefully a player who has reached triple a. has gotten the fundamentals down what do you work on with. The guys who have reached this higher level of the, minor leagues Basically just fine tuning you look for. The little things that, they may need to improve on such, as a read to the left, or, read to the right it's. Very minute details by. The time they get to here so. That you can really focus on specific things that they really need to just get a little, bit better at but basically this is just finishing school, both guys who play and security service field seventy. Games a year? And, visiting, teams who come in say that this is a very. Difficult outfield to play because of the altitude the dimensions and the wind currents that. Sometimes impact the flight of, the ball is that something that you've noticed in your teaching with these players there's two feels that. We play on that that we always kit about and say if you can. Catch fly balls in Arizona and Colorado Springs you can catch a fly. Ball anywhere yeah this is a difficult place to play because of all those things you just mentioned But it's also one that I think really helps guys because it. Really forces him to focus on every, little part of the detail of getting a, good read getting a good jump seeing the ball through the zone so yeah it can be difficult but at the same time this, professional baseball and this is what our expectations are I guess is Tony digs. The outfield and base running coordinator for the brewers the brewers have? An embarrassment of riches in the outfield a lot of guys here triple a. would, and other organizations beginning some major league time how do you, keep those guys motivated when they may. Be, spinning their wheels here in AAA frustrated that they can't get up to the bigs You know what it's it's, really not, our job to motivate them I think we find different ways to. Be able to help them with that but the motivation. Always comes within the players, we've been very fortunate in the players that we have here. In AAA having great mindset and how to keep themselves motivated how to prepare for each game whether it's in triple in the big league so Any way that we can assist. In that or there's? A pen on the back whether it's just a conversation we, do those things but mostly I think really I don't worry. About the motivation part because the players do that do a very good job of that themselves you had a long minor league career as a, player and now you've been in the brewers organization between you're playing and coaching careers for quite some. Time how did that transition we're going from your playing career to now, in advisory role but you don't want, nobody really wants, to hang them up but when you come to. That point in your career as a player that you you do when you. Retire or you just can't play anymore you. Go through a little bit of of losing the camaraderie as far as, being in the clubhouse but as soon as you step foot on the coaching side, of it I would say the majority of. Coaches Get a, new sense of Richardson being able to pass on information and. When they're able to do that and they see players that can take that information and make themselves better make their careers longer that's that's the, joy part of that so being a coach for the number of years that I've been a coach. Has been there for filling in the fact that I've been able to, see a lot of players get better And have extended careers because of that towards the end of your playing career did you see coaching as a potential avenue for you, after you hung up the spikes absolutely always wanted to stay in the game as a coach. I was very fortunate there's a lot. Of people that I think are smarter than me that don't have the opportunity to be in the game for whatever reason but I was blessed with that opportunity and it's been a great Part of my life not, only for my life above four my family's life as well so I've. Enjoyed every minute of it brewers outfield and base running coordinator Tony digs is our pregame, guests Tony this is the last year AAA baseball here in Colorado Springs coming in its place, in two thousand nineteen will be pioneer league rookie level baseball something that you're familiar with? Because. You used to manage at that level it's kind of. A foreign concept to. A lot of our listeners I think because they're just so accustomed to the full season baseball style what can our listeners and fans here, in Colorado Springs expect for that level of play you know what You've been spoiled for a number of years just for the fact that. You've had a triple a team and that's what I said earlier is finishing school for? The big leagues Now you're going to have, to get used to a different facet of baseball there's gonna be a lot. More mistakes there's going to be of course younger players that are here but at the same time. It's going to be one that you, get to see those players close up just like you have a AAA players and you get to see them get. Better day by day and, I, think in rookie. Ball level you have a big opportunity to see that. Because those players do have, an opportunity to get better day by day whereas players here in Tripoli they're they're already good they're set. In all their good routines and everything else so just look forward to Good. Baseball you're going to, see young, baseball you're going to see. Young mistakes but you're going, to see heartened desires as guys come here for the first time in this. Is going to be their first year professional baseball and let it all hang out that concludes part. One of my conversation with brewers outfield, and base running instructor Tony digs part will air sometime later on in the season but coming up next here on. Sky SOX warm up we'll, have, a look at. The scoreboard as well as lineups and first pitch here. On Xtra sports thirteen hundred Each year approximately thirteen million Americans.
