"Eat. It also land on the table rate onto like a pile of gummy. It's very weird <hes> the other thing with with ingrid that this is like more of a story thing how she's treated but it is like i can. I can see i can see this both ways but you do get a lot more information about <hes> spy daddy's background than you get about her righty find out about about danny trae ho and we're thrilled to find out about the danny trae ho secret right but we find out like his family background also find out about his secret scientists background in a room full of scientists <hes> and so like his character gets a couple of cool subplots and we don't really get that for ingrid right. <hes> we get that the way she relates to it as she was like. You didn't tell me like she doesn't really have the upper hand and their relationship arrays and he is then made kind of more important to the story because he's the one who developed the third brain. He's the one who didn't destroy it so like he's he's why they are the target of flip and later minion just making him more integral to the story whereas she's just essentially tagging along because they're married and she's by couple his wife spy so yeah it would have been nice like if we do learn more about maybe his backstory in terms of his family history and connections and stuff like that and then you keep that but then make her the one who is developing the third brain and like give her that integral component to the story like it's it it is like way imbalanced in terms of what we know about him him versus what we know about her. Yeah and it's a yeah it's it's a bummer but it's like i wouldn't remove any of the spy daddy back story for the world. It's all great but it's like she could have been included more meaningfully in that story or or like you said like if she is involved in the third brain than they kind of have an equal call subplot power and for sure then show then we would have had a woman in stem which is important. You hate to see it. I wonder if that imbalance balances due to how famous either of them were because jamie you brought a good point about like what level of fame was tonio bandera during this movie was he liked to famous has to be doing this or i'm just curious about like what level of like they may be put more on internal matters 'cause he was like the recognizable face but i don't i. I truly don't know i can't i feel anyone's fame. Level was at that point like what did alan coming to that point. What was tony was tony shalhoub monkey yet like what what there's no way great to know. That's an actionable question am i. It is so hard to when was peak antonio banderas. I think it was like late nineties. Although eh who can say we've accidentally thought that tom hanks wasn't famous before he was cast in toy story so we don't know anything <music>. I think we were just tired but i knew that i had been. We're moving. This is the year before among so shillue by racing is get there are people who are i mean. The george clooney cameo. I think is treated as if he is blatantly elite to famous in richard linklater's in this movie for a second really oh yeah they're really good friends because they're both from texas. We what is he is. He like one of the bodyguards. Johny guards credited as cool spy is probably one of the guys like attacks the safe house or so yeah yeah. That's funny well. I mean goes must be an awesome friend because i feel like everyone always like like working. Yeah yeah like he. He must be like a really cool nice guy or i hope. I don't know very limited information about rod robert rodriguez except that he made spike <hes>. I've movies. I've seen the like <hes> desperado auto trilogy..

"Wrapping up last week in the awards being handed out, it seems to have been one of the best received festivals in recent years with lots of big names and exciting new directors. Justed mentioned selene scam new film, which won the best screenplay award. And yes, Yama is the writer and director of two thousand fourteen girlhood that made my list of the top five female friendship movies. We'd continues. There were also new films from Tarantino, Mallock, Alamodome VAR, and Robert Eggers among others in Bong Jun, ho made history as the first Korean director to win the palm the or with parasite Wade continues. Even the bad film seemed worth talking about, for example, David ehrlich's review of MC tube my love Intermezzo from Abdelatif, because she's the director of blue is the warmest color is something everyone should resume. I saw this take. Hold on Twitter Twitter. Right. And yeah, you cut it to in his letterbox entry he wrote, no filmmaker has ever loved anything as much as Abdelatif because she, she loves butts apparently. Butts, and it wasn't just Ehrlich, saying that. So your mileage may vary in terms of your response to that film, if you do ever see MEC to my love Intermezzo, so it's true that this was a bit of an oversight. We don't devote a lot of time to this, that we have in years past when Michael Phillips, from the Tribune has gone to can often come from people or we'll talk to other people and get some news about it or get their sense of the festival, but we overlooked at on our last show might as well like knowledge few of the winners here. The jury was headed up by Allah hundred Gonzalez in Yari to a great jury overall L fanning Kelly record Alice Walker who made happy, Lazaro, your go slant. They most Robin camp, E O, who made BPM beats per minute a few years ago, really good film, and Pablo public, husky, who is, of course, the filmmaker behind e and last year's Cold War. They ended up giving the palm door as you heard Wade say to Bong Jun Ho's parasite. The. Director of snow piercer and Java and mother and the host among others. It's billed as a dark comedy about class tensions in South Korea. And it is scheduled to open in New York, and LA on Tober eleventh, look forward to it opening here in Chicago, the second place prize, the grand prix went to Mattie. Diab's Atlantic's best director that prize went to jump ear and Luke, Dr Dan for the somewhat controversial from what I've read the young Ahmed. And how about an Tonio Bandera not winning for painting, gained your beloved paint game, Josh bell? If only and glory, which is the new alma dove are film about a director remembering his past also Malik Terrence Malick had a new film. They're called a hidden life, along with Tarantino's once upon a time in Hollywood and Elissa Wilkinson, who everyone should be reading and following on Twitter. She did her best of can report for vox will linked to it in our show notes over phone spotting dot net. And she said of Malik hidden life, that it's his most overtly political film and also one of his most religious urgent. And sometimes, even uncomfortable sounds like we are in for that she also dug into one from the witch director, Robert Aigars. It's called the lighthouse in stars. Willem dafoe. And of course, the newly announced Batman, Robert Pattinson, again will linked to elicit article in the show notes if you're curious about more of those films and her reaction to them. But right now, we need to have a little bit of fun with massacre theater, the part of the show where we perform a scene from a movie and you get a chance of winning a film spotting t-shirt. In case you missed it, here's a bit of last week's massacre. I want to thank you for covering up for me. You're a real. Oh, it's nothing. I, I just thought that a girl should stick together. So the beauty of me going through the mail bag and pulling these responses is that get to focus on one's, like Alex Lancer in Janesville. Wisconsin, who said, Adam don't let, Josh give you any crab you nailed it, while, meanwhile, multiple people wrote in asking, how it is. Because they knew this movie they recognized it. "The Cannes film festival wrapped up this past weekend. The awards are out and the reviews are in and Tonio Bandera won best actor for Pedro Malda Vars pain and glory, the first award given to a black female director, went to Mattie, Diop for her film, Atlantiques, and one of the most talked about films, Quentin Tarantino's once upon a time in Hollywood failed to win a single prize. We connected with Elissa, Wilkinson over Skype to get her take. She's a film reporter at FOX that Palmdale winner, which is the top prize at Cannes was Bong, Jun, Ho's parasite long is known for making films that are very much about class warfare. And this one is especially about that. It's kind of a literal is metaphor about class warfare in Korea. There was a film called back route from Brazil, and that one's about poor people into village being targeted by wealthy people. For sport. And they're trying to fight them off. There was a film called Atlantic's, which was the first film actually from a black woman to be in the main competition at Cannes, and that one's really about young Africans who are fighting back against a wealthy developer, whose not paying them for their work. So it was really a festival full of films about vulnerable people trying to figure out ways that they could gain

"Right there in the Zona. Del sole were the boys and Girls Club is right. We've got buildings portables on the way as phase one and hope to have a nice, permanent lotteries. They're open right now. If you wanted to kids if you wanna see get your kids in the lottery open right now, turquoise trail dot ORG and open house. Come and see our schools the elementary school and the middle school at those locations on February fifth at five thirty go to website and look for that information come and check out the schools. This is the time of year for Santa Fe parents to look at what their choices are and all the charter schools have the lotteries open right now. All right. The the debate right now going on in the legislature about should we cap charters or not cap charters out. Imagine you say well why, you know, why regulate why put a governor in something that is very successful. But is there a need? There have been some scandals involving a poorly run or negligently run charter school. So in all schools all across the nation every now, and then we will read a story. About a bookkeeper using the book club money and public high school just recently an accountant in another public school, you know, absconding with one hundred thousand and yes in charter schools, there are just people and the foibles of humanity where they're tempted, and they do things that they shouldn't be doing the majority of people that I work with and I can speak personally about turquoise trail. We want to be part of the solution to a really difficult problem in our society, which is high quality education in an information technological age, and we know that when the bigger the system you're in the harder is to change and charter schools like being small and being flexible and having the ability to innovate. So I would try to speak to our legislatures, and I will I'm going up there next Friday to meet many of them and just say, yes, there are really good charter schools in some other men are in Santa Fe. Everyone knows ATC in school of the arts are. Some of the best schools in the state. And why would you wanna limit anybody from starting something like that? I mean, they've both been had tremendous impact on our Santa Fe community giving our families option and somebody out there right now is planning the next great school as well. As we think at turquoise tro were starting a school right in the face of trying to limit them. And I can tell you if you're in charter schools, you're going to be pushed attacked criticized because it's new we're coming out with very very strong schools here and there with of course, admittedly, a few bad ones here and there, but there are some incredibly good charter schools. And why would we wanna limit innovation and moving forward in a field? That's not doing very well. You are you fall under the leadership of New Mexico public education department? Yes, yes. We're state chartered school. The governor yesterday announced her nominations to head up the deputies for deputies a special advisor from UCLA and chief of staff. So you look at this list of the secretary and the four deputies, which you're immediately media thought Pedro new girl is one of my philosophical heroes. If we listened to him we will have some progress in our philosophy in thinking about poverty, and how it affects schools and how we need to do things differently. Oh, well, said the exact same thing communities in schools. Well, let me tell you anybody. Pedro new girl NO g u e r a he has tremendous writings on the impact of poverty on kids in schools, which often gets attacked as an excuse and have a long-term educator. Let me just let me just give you a quick anecdote. A couple of days ago. Australia came out with a big report that said that all the testing that was done after the big fires in Australia a few years ago. Would it surprise you that the test scores were lower and someone said, oh, I guess those kids were under stress and stress and trauma impacts test scores. And so in New Mexico. Our previous administration said, well, let's test the heck out of kids and blame the teachers if they don't do. Well, I got news for you, poverty stress. Trauma are all factors and all these things in an age eight over here. Listen adverse childhood girl listened to him. And what he's saying here in Trujillo the secretary, and yeah, I'm really pleased that everybody's been in education is an educator. I've heard great things about Tim hand carber CARA. Bob Ross has been involved in charter schools. I know Gwen from lanell Science Foundation. Awesome. Great group. Can't wait to see if we can get count some real common sense and allow high performing schools, like turquoise trail ATC spoiler the arts. Monte del sole masters program. Let us have some freedom to continue to innovate. We have proven track record with quality administration and boards note. No, free license to do what we want whenever right because it's public money, but dot good group. I like to assume sometimes the people just came to Santa Fe, they just moved here. Now, maybe they have four or five kids, and you're looking for a school or they're here and they're looking around maybe to relocate to Santa Fe so turquoise trail. You guys kind of focus on the arts and music and having you know, a, very creative campus and curriculum. Yeah. And we're moving towards this film industry. The partnership with the Santa Fe movie studios is alive. And well, the director Octavio Moran was just over at the middle school and they're doing a pitch. He's a contest. So the kids are writing up, you know, pitches, they can sell it is in in in Tonio Bandera times times ten on and the Tasmanian devil. He's on fire all the time with ideas. So he was with our kids, and they were pitching their movie ideas to him somebody who's going to win the pitch contest. And the parents and the kid are going to get to sit and watch a production out at the movie studios and meet the actors. So that's the partnership in in an era where Octavio the movie studio owners and turquoise trail. Sees that as one of the ways where kids will want to be involved in school because there's a exciting positive outcome ahead of them that does require work, but perhaps not in the most traditional ways. Although we all know, there's no excuse for not being a good writer a good reader and good at math. I mean, that's still a standard do siblings. Get some preference to go to turquoise trail. Yes. All charter schools. There are preferences. If you're enrolled, you have automatic preference to return the next year. Okay. That's sounds very logical. Secondarily, if you have a sibling enrolled in school, you get your name pulled at the top of the lottery, so if there's ten siblings in in one grade that wanna come in. They get ranked one through ten so there's a little lottery for the siblings, and then turquoise trail now because of this arrangement with Santa Fe public school. In our building has third preference, which is acceptable by the charter school law. And that's as if you live in the old, very original, turquoise trail attendance area of highway fourteen from the freeway down to Madrid and off the road. You get a third preference. Okay. So if you live in the area, it basically that becomes a really good option where you're almost guaranteed to get in the geographic demographic. Yeah. And that's new preference for New Mexico. There's been some challenge to that. But there actually is a Bill right now to propose that a conversion charter school. There's only one in New Mexico. That's turquoise trail started as public converted a charter that the the legislature will amend the charter law to allow that as a. I won't just call a law administrative law. So that's part of the preferences in the charter school lottery, really happy to hear that you and Santa Fe public schools at workout this situation with building you didn't have to change yourself to the roof. And all these other thing we're going to make ourselves available for Washington. If nothing happens in the next twenty days. And we'll go there and we'll make the hard decisions. Thank.

"He's really into really good at kind of dissecting those story lines and all the maneuvering and seeing how all those larger puzzle pieces come together. And it feels like high flying bird might do something similar so really excited about that. That comes out the following week February eighth again both on that flex. Yesterday, beginning all man, again, crazy of what could be hold new industry. You would grab all scared. We don't need to lead. We disrupt is yo- game. Now. You were born for way more than this. Let them fully. So I take it. You didn't make New Year's resolution. No cheats on in top fives for twenty nine thousand questions have six titles ratios. Buckle up changed. I'm going to try to answer your question. I love me some NBA I would say more often than not I'm a fan of Soderbergh. Not as big as you. Yes. But I'm gonna go with velvet buzzsaw as being the descriptions, the descriptions and the players and I've been waiting for Jilin hall Gilroy retaining for a while since night crawler. So that sounds really exciting. I think they might be able to nail it. And we will see soon enough. All right. My number four question can Pedro Elmendorf ours pain and glory possibly be as good as Michael Bay's pain and gay. We all remember Adam the greatness mind thirteenth and connecting them. Please. Tell me something more than the world. Hang. Well. There's the percent. I mean, really that put it over the top for me. It was like, yeah. This will sell this'll cell. I am dismissing this entire list. Bays. Let's let's admit it. Probably unknowing display of hilarious self satire. Here's another connection. There's something meta going on with Amador's painting glory the IMDB plot. Description says it's about a film director reflecting on the choices. He's made in life as past and present come crashing down around him. So Elmer dove are has of course, directly reflected on the art of filmmaking and other movies, something he returns to this isn't exactly brand new territory, but this time he's exploring it with perhaps his greatest collaborator Penelope Cruz. He also has another familiar star onboard, especially from his early films and Tonio Bandera. So chances are this will be as good as pain and gain this being Eldar atom. It could be it also could be as good as Fellini's eight and a half. So we'll just. What you didn't? You didn't expect helmet. Ovar bay to be now mentioned illegal illegal to just happened to bad pain and glory opens in Spain in March. So I'm hoping that means we'll get it sometime after that. Yeah. I've got an answer to that question. I don't care what it's called is going to be better than that. Michael bay film. Okay. My number four question of twenty nineteen in movies is what will the world's greatest living actor sorry. Daniel Day-Lewis do with joker. I didn't see Adam Jared, Leto suicides. Michael fast Bunder listens to this show. I know and if I had to redo my vote from foam spotting badness what you're was at twenty sixteen. I would give it to Phoenix. Yeah. Absolutely hall. In fact, I really if I did if I shift spotting land I had to vote for fast vendor. And really, I'm I'm a little bit embarrassed as much as I still hold him in high regard. It's walking Phoenix. And again, I didn't see Jared Leto suicide squad. I probably never will that performance in suicide squad in between Nicholson, and he's ledger. I feel like I've got enough joker to tide me over for another decade. Probably now in my a little bit curious about the fact that deniro appears in this one and z beats who actually is also co star in high flying bird. So I'm excited about seeing her again, she was so good and deadpool two last year. So I'm glad she's involved..

And they must have wanted Connie Britton and her beautiful hair because they nominated her in the category. Best actress for a limited series for dirtyjohn which did just start and she is fabulous. Why wouldn't they nominate? Julia Roberts because we're talking they nominate the show it's a limited series. And then they don't nominate her which is the show because they wanted Penelope Cruz, I guess for the versa done delivers. Todd. So there's some good. I mean, you know, got nominee. Instilled in get nominated. I know but a lot of people didn't like that second season southbound Islamic, right? But I don't know they always say there's lots of snobs, but there's only so many categories, but I was really shocked that John Kaczynski didn't get nominated for a quiet place. He did get any or director got a best original score. His that movie was ninety five percent on rotten tomatoes. It made amazing amount of money. And it was original and very good. I mean that one was kind of surprised me. Okay. Can I tell you what surprising people, but they know John is coming because Emily blunt has been nominated. That's right. We know these people think, okay? So best motion picture animated over that know, I'll of dogs is so fantastic. Did you see it is it is gonna win? Yes. Such a great. Yeah. Not for kids. Yeah. It's less Anderson. Yeah. It's unbelievable. And then the other one best original song in a motion picture. They had Black Panther all the stars girl in the movies in dumpling. And that's a Dolly Parton song request for private wide and shallow for stars born. That's when they pick. But was there a best song for comedy or musical? Mary poppins. Yeah. Well, you know, can you say what can you just lay? Okay. Darren criss got nominated for this. Asinine Gianni Versace. Hodgson, he went an EMMY. And he really was amazing. We'll get to see Amy Adams. And Patricia Arquette also competing against Connie Britton. Laura Dern and Regina. So I mean, they do I do kinda think there is something like who do we use the magic we went on our coach? I if that's how they choose things. I kind of like how they wrong. How would you pick this up? As though the man with the giant head is going to be there and Tonio Bandera. Well, it'll be good because. He's there. Yes. Joey Ryan headed her husband. Oh, that's right. I got him. Yeah..

"Yeah. I'm sure and you're saying the same thing over and over and over again. Yeah. That sounds terrible. And then like people, you know, I get it makes sense people get in trouble during these things they yell at people or they lose their mind you get worn down. And then when you're tired no-one when they're tired starts making a lot of these people to they have six there's often these are scheduled for three minutes like people have three the rotation and this personal sit down they'll ask you some hot button topic question that you couldn't possibly thoughtfully address in three minutes. This is such a low blow gonna ask me about the state of welfare system, and I have two and a half minutes left. And you want me to? Yeah. Or whatever popular news item of someone going down with me to you want me to give some thoughtfully answer about that in two minutes. Yeah. Tarred Downie Downey who's at the greatest Robert Downey. He famously had kind of he put someone in place, which is the guy wanted to get into his incarceration for drug abuse. And it wasn't a two minute interview. And he's just like really, and he kind of said to them like, this is preposterous. I'm not on a segment of sixty minutes where we could spend two days talking about this. And I could give you a real thing. You just want to fucking soundbites click bait for your right thing. And guess what he got it. He got it. That's. Yep. They win when you do that. But it's hard. Okay. Gordon, never had sex with Kristin. I just well that we know but. But I know a lot about her. We don't know, you're right. That'd be so happy for both of them. The woman choosing top-five bliss guys I was going to quickly have sex with a woman he'd be on my I quickly because I'm born dog. I'd get right at it. Oh, no only a woman for a finite period. You're gonna make me woman for the weekend. I gotta get going. I wouldn't be surprised at all. If Gordon wasn't on Christians top-five. He'd be a nice addition to her. Yeah. All pass. So I don't think that they have I feel I feel really I think they couldn't move even if in day of the intention to I don't think logistically, also we're speaking now, Gordon is happily married. He doesn't have the loosey-goosey Hollywood morals that we have. So, you know, certainly, Gordon want it. Now course wouldn't trust. So who knows what I totally disagree. I don't know. I don't think they have. But I don't know. And let's just say this if they have I didn't even know at our relationships going, just fine. Yeah. So if you look at it just from a pragmatic point of view if it happened. I guess it didn't matter because I certainly didn't know and she's still lovely bride to me. Okay. What if one of the things on twenty three and me is whether or not you have drier wet sense of humor. Yeah. Like England had the highest rate of dry sense. That's really funny guys. "And this is where the movie where there's a of the movie lost Elliott because he's like that is just that is a civic tragedy that there are heroes of impart. They also they get on the ship without tickets. I think. Guy a little girl running on a ship. Okay. Great. It's the movie starts having what I would call like lumpy plotting described before where it's like it was a pretty tight movie for the most part. And then now it's like time for them to SOS your around Europe meeting other vampires. And it's it's like it's starts feeling like an old melodrama movie where that plot is not super organized than we're used to now in. It's like reminded me a lot of the movie now Voyager where it's like, okay. This character is just going around doing different things and having different personal development. But like sort of in you'd often see in a novel where there's you know, the Bill of action and there's the low and it's another build up. Right. But also, I feel like this movie is fairly plot. 'less in the sense that there's no goal that anyone is working towards like people lawing about for for centuries. This is basically the critique that Christian bale scared. Her would give him late to the story. Right. Like, where's your plot? Yeah. Yeah. Christian slater? At the end is like, I'm just going to raise all these tapes. And wasn't. It wasn't really a through line here. Let's any throws. This is the original ending throws the tapes out of his car window, and then and then a homeless woman is is sneaking around through the garbage where the tapes landed and she picks one up, and she goes. And then you see that's an rice and. Where do you see that? Maybe it's written. Like, her her mom wrote and rice on tag on her mittens the case. She turns she turns to Donna Meanchey. And she goes where back. All right. So man, I'm gonna meet you get a little extra work. Yeah. Yeah. So they go to Europe they're looking around for other vampires. Although in their voice over he says, he's looking for the vampires. They mainly just go to fancy parties. But that's the thing is that once he's not doing it. She's the one doing the looking and he just kinda hangs out. He's he's not the most either pretty I mean, this is a ninety s movie in that Louis isn't incredibly slack revamp higher. Whatever I don't know like this is a vampire could totally see hanging out in a seven eleven parking lot while his friends try to do cool skate tricks and keep down and he's like would ever N Louis. Why don't you get up on a board that would be lame? To have a a regular square job in this booming economy. And your Vanek comes out. And he's like, I don't listen to this bubble gum pop the. But so anyway, they they're in Paris. It's the year eighteen seventy now. That's right. It's the beautiful era everybody, and he's just spoiling. Claudia rotten and Louis meets up with some Spanish vampires. They seek him out in an alleyway led by Armand playbay Antonio Banderas. Who before I watched the movie, I didn't even know was in the movie, I was very excited to see Tony Bandera back in his kind of like what L mariuchi desperado type period when he was he was still a fresh new thing on the American movie scene. "If you've ever seen them risk great movie, and it's kind of nuts because about people who commit suicide, and they all go to a certain it's about afterlife for people who commit suicide and so. All I'm hearing is I have to find a way to pick a hole in every movie Nick picks at this point. No, you can go ahead and do that. Because haven't we already been doing that that's been doing this, right? But I agree. So my next movie is a movie that I don't even know if Brennan scene. And it is called desperado. Well, it's not perfect because the Seinfeld episode made a joke about the song. And now that song's ruined. To avacado that is not have anything to do with the movie, I've never seen the movie. So it's obviously not perfect. This movie is very in very important to Nick, he has a picture of Antonio Banderas hanging in a very special place in his Tonio Bandera says it. Yes, right. So you have. Yes, you are. So this movie this movie, okay? Robert Rodriguez directed, and he just kind of have a way with the flow of the movie he knows how to explode. He knows how to cast. He knows that. Like, the movie is just about revenge. It has a hilarious moments. It has all of my favorite people in it and Tonio been Deras the perfect woman Samaha and the perfect third wheel Stephen semi in the movie, and like I have a special place in my heart for this movie like legitimately. They said, hey, Nick, we're going to have a bachelor party for you what? Manley movie, should we watch at your bachelor party? And I immediately said desperado because it is the greatest, and it has one of the greatest cinematic scenes in my opinion, ever that's the opening scene, and it's just beautifully written beautifully done beautifully filmed. And it's very violent and. It has nudity in it. And it has all of the things that everyone wants..

"Enough experience of wanting to be like a serious actor tweet, like, oh, even comedy, like commitment is, is that well, that's basically. Yeah, it is. And also. I don't really change my performance of I'm doing a drama or comedy. It's always to me the same thing. Yeah. And the other thing that I realized just about doing movies and is always interesting because I came into your movie, you've been there for a while doing the movie? Yeah, six years. This movie has taken as really him. Him. Fourteen, but it's like this job. Oy. Like basically what acting really is is when everybody around us pretty stressed out, like I seen that was basically just sort of like we had, they're like, look, we're gonna light it and it's too takes. And that is the great joy when you can get like is just being able to relax when everything stressful and everybody's running and gunning. And you know it's expensive and everything's burning and and just being able to just like kind of take a second and be like. You said I don't wanna say spoilers because I haven't seen the movie. Yeah. I said, some of the funniest shit. I would say he was like, I've never met you before. What do you kissed me. Ten seconds after which I did. I just came back. Yeah, but. It was. Do you get this amount of freedom like on the set of like, I don't know, not a museum or lethal weapon. Like is there a same similar weapons been very friendly to me. And yes of me goofing around, I basically said to them if I was going to come in and play a character that icon, I mean, it's you, you're playing Joe patchy role can't right STAN. I mean, this is the biggest. It's a long shadow to Stanton. Yeah. So as I just have to do something different and I have to be super weird. Right? And you just have to say, that's okay. Yeah. And they always have, Matt Miller has been really cool, and he's always just like, let me the very first episode. I when I saw it knew things we're gonna go. Well, because I look at Damon wayans and I'm standing by one of those automatic coffee machines. And I look right at him, and I pushed the buttons really angry and I just said black and creamy. Which is like not a coffee, right. Well, then they left it in the show, and I was like, okay, those are that shows they get whatever. That that doesn't make you feel pretty good where, okay, I could try some weird stuff and have to be very friendly about That that. seems like everyone quits gets back. You play, you played to Kana characters that at least that I can think of that were already done in terms of you have the joepat character. And when you were in the couple that was intense yet how, how? Yeah. How do you? How do you play a character when you know it's been that defined? There's that one really was much harder Felix the Felix Unger thing because it was actually also the fifth Felix Unger, the Romanian how it goes. I mean, Tonio Bandera turned it down and he had to. He was coming out of the room. Tonio. They like me like me. Amazing. All right. Now. You going as been Dara's or low, or maybe it's been Dara's and going as low hand Halloween. The sale. "Scott Manson is gonna join me now to talk about the movies coming up this week and follow Scott on Instagram and Twitter at movie manse M, E N, T Z, Scott happy Friday. Good to talk to you. It's great to talk with you, my friend. You know, we got we got a few in theaters this weekend. And it's going to be kind of a a slow one at the box office bird, hang on stop right there. I already had tickets for my whole family to see one of them tonight. So I know you're not going to get the world's greatest review. But I'm excited for now care. All right. Tell me because I Jack black is one of my all time favorites, I'm gonna see Jack black in the house with a clock in its walls. Okay. Well, well, it is a good movie to see it's not it's not it doesn't reinvent the wheel or be not that like this should. So the house with a clock in its walls is directed by ROY. Well ahead. Sorry, you speak. Yes. I'd like to. But he is he known for directing movies. I mean. What's it? What's his back? Background is in very hard. R rated comedies. He's like hostile and cabin fever. This is a family friendly film. It's I haven't ever done something like this. I mean, it's a horror film all sorts not really a harbor. You know, little spooky I guess spooky spooky house based on a book, you know. Special effects are good. The it has it's charming. It's great to see, you know, Jack black with Keith Blanchard. Derek? They're very good together in the smoothie it's nice to keep doing something. That's really scream Oscar bait or. Now, you know. The booby has it has heart. It's a little spooky it has. You know? It's funny like it. It just doesn't feel like it's knows what it wants to be. It's not a very focused moody. It's not a breakdown on sale. And it's also not a very good one. Just as a little like the story. Did he grabbed me? I didn't read the book. I have no attachment to the source material. You know, I like this being like, okay? Well, let's just watch the movie and take it from there, and the movie the story didn't really grabbed me, you know, it got it got a little better law. But like, I our our say, I was a little bored. It's I guess, it's okay. It's more for it's a family film. But it's more for kids. You know, if be more for kids. With my kids, Scott. So that's now's Jack black is he I mean, he's always entertaining. Yeah. I like Jack black. I mean, you know, I I've always liked just Moody's, you know, whether he still wants up to like, you know, school rock, or, you know, be kind rewind. I mean, I always liked him. You know? Fun to watch antiques for the watching this movie as I said, so keep landscape again, you know, I'm sure it's it's definitely more kids. So so buyer, beware. If you're a grown up going to see this movie, it's fine. It's just not great also theaters. I really I really wanna talk to you about Ethan is alleged. I really like Michael Moore's movies. I, you know, the only for Columbine is still as best buy Fahrenheit nine eleven which came out back in two thousand four one the pob door to cancel festival. This is a leaded die. The numbers are switched. And basically, let's say how we got to get the president that we have now everything leading up to it. But the movie goes off on a few. It's about the border crisis inflict, Michigan, which is where Michael Barr from it goes into sort of grass roots, democracy campaign and teacher strikes a gun control. All over the place tackles a bunch of serious issues. It just some of these issues deserve their own selves in their own right? And you know, that's not a bad thing to have a baby the touches on so many things, but you just sort of jumps around. There's no focus to it. Having said that more 'cause that's a more balanced story, then you might expect but being being filmed at this is being Michael Moore who he is. So you know, he's very much to the west. He is very much not a Trump fan. And if you feel this way the way you do about Trump, you know, the desk depicted into film, then, you know, the movie is going to preach to the choir. So the question is how do you get people who loved Trump to see a movie like Fahrenheit eleven nine? You know, again, I'm not judging trumped up just judging and reviewing the. Itself, it poses an interesting point of view. I think it's something that people need to see whether they're Trump stance or not. But if you know, if you know Michael Moore, you know that he's not a fan. So if you are a fan of Trump, you're not going to see this movie. How do you get those people to see the movie with an open mind and just sort of like look at some of the issues at this still proposes? That's always I think being the problem is that you know, if you're to the right or even to the middle. You're not gonna see see Michael Moore's movies. Yeah. What do you think? Well, I mean, I I still like a fly. My why am I blanking on the movie about General Motors in Flint that really introduces? I thought that was such a oh, yeah. Yeah. Jimmy, I really thought that was a great movie. And I can't say I've thought anything he's done. Since was great is the problem. I I've always been like, but maybe that's style in a movie theater is what doesn't work for me. Maybe that's the kind of thing. I just want to watch at home. On HBO or something as opposed to going to movie theater? Well, that's a good point. And you know, this is that these four options and just HBO Showtime. You have Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, you know? Maybe that's that's where really liked this belong. You know, it's in theaters his all of his name theaters. And and what I I think that of of his films Roger was the one that put them on the map in nineteen eighty nine. I keep doling for Columbine. This is best most focused followed by Fahrenheit nine eleven. Because I mean was the beauty about you know, Bush in terrorism and all that stuff, but his later films. You know have looked at. You know, the healthcare system and about you know, like where do we think next is not so much about invading? Actually, it's more about looking at the healthcare systems and other countries and how they are out. Impresario movies, but not necessarily what I go to the theater to watch like you said, especially with all of the online or or cable based services now, I don't go to the he then maybe that's my problem. But Scott before we run out of time. We only have about a minute left is there's a movie I just saw that is coming out. And I have no idea why haven't heard about it. And now, I haven't is suspicion why. But Oscar Isaac Olivia Wilde Mandy patinkin one of my favorites. I have no idea where Livia cooker lia- cost are Annette Benning on Tonio Bandera. What does this movie life itself? I've never even heard of life itself is an unsolvable about husband and wife a young couple and they have kid and sorta reverberations that their lives have on on some people around the world. It's some ways to build these very reminisce in some very small ways the movies reminiscent of the movie Babel with Brad Pitt's and keep Blanchet came out two thousand five up on the Golden Globe for best picture drama. But you know, it's written by Dan Fogelman and directed by Dan fogelberg to was the creator of the TV series hit TV series the award winning TV series. This is and seems sort of like family melodrama by it just goes to show that works for TV doesn't always work for film. I like you have a lot less time. And and just the it. It is a BELTRAN. It's over written the problems. I just didn't think that people really talk like this and the emotions the film the tries to stir your emotions, and it does it in a way that that is repeatedly contrived and forced the emotions are. Manipulated not authentic. And I felt like I was being a little, you know, I don't like when I feel like my buttons are being pushed NFL having said that the performance is a very good. But, you know, this is a film, honestly, Ethan skip it. Yeah. Well, I'm going to see the house with a clock in its walls. And I'll let you know what the family thinks. And what I think there you go. So I'm excited for that. But Scott is always great to catch up with you. Again, follow Scott on Twitter and Instagram at movie may on Scott. Thank you so much for your insight and input. "There's another scene from the movie where it's will smith being seduced by the asian seductress and you can't hear it but in the movie she goes well east meets west it's very funny moment and then like another scene is there dancing in the town and it's like a wide shot of the town and it cuts to the scene of the spider destroying town the mechanical spider the giant mechanical spider from that movie there's a town and here's the town but it's getting blown up and i love it because yeah somebody pointed out in the comments section it was like it's like sexy dancing limbs flying around cut to giant spider demolishing which hey two legs or sexy what about eight lakes four times sex four times a sexy it's sexy with for x's it's sexy four x is talk about eight legged freaks but like with with three x's freaks yes and that's kind the of the video they like runaway runaway for final time yeah was great though like you point out when we were watching it earlier is that they're all wearing like the women are like contemporary close it was like wearing like tops late nineties fashion but meanwhile in rica's dress like an outlaw from eighteen hundreds yeah dressed head to toe in like you know homemade clothing right withdrawal strings and shit right and i don't know if it was just because he was in once upon once upon a time in mexico but that's all i can think of when i was watching this too was he really in it i haven't ever seen that or really it's tonio bandera zoema hayek i've seen one of them maybe the other one those elmer jacci and desperados seen desperado yeah yeah because i think i think she's only in flashbacks in mexico she watched that movie it's a good movie right doesn't like tar case turned into a machine gun so.
