"Well, when people say that LeBron, greatest career of all time, is it better than Bill Russell's career? Because his career is better than Michael Jordan's career. If you look at number of times in the finals, the statistics, all time leading score, top 5 and assists, the longevity, playing at a high level, it's a better career in totality. But with Bill Russell, nobody ever looks at bill's numbers. They look at one number 11. How can you have a better career than a guy who was the centerpiece for 11 championships? An Olympic gold medal, and two national titles in college. You saw it, we didn't. I've always wanted to was Bill Russell clearly the best player on that team or was he the lead player and a lot of high end players. He see it's difficult to say, you know, bill's skill level wasn't what is typical to today's NBA player. He wasn't a great score shooter. He was just, he had presence. And will Chamberlain had 55 rebounds in a game against Bill Russell. Will probably score over 40 quite a few times on Bill Russell. But when you need to have a game and a win, Bill Russell seemed to come up big. But if Bill Russell had 6 titles, 9 11, he would not be in the conversation. Not with Jordan. But 11, to me, it's a different. We have different answers to the same question. Now, who's the greatest player of all time? Well, I would say LeBron with what he's done with his career. Of all time, everything. You know, Michael was in 6 finals. Well, what happened to all the other times? Like, can we give LeBron credit that he got there? And sometimes he got there within inferior talent. Bill Russell had a team full of Hall of Famers. Well, were they Hall of Famers? Because Bill Russell helped make them winners. Therefore, Tommy heinsohn is a Hall of Famer. Yeah, more. This might sound like the 70s steelers. You look at probably some of those numbers where you're like, wait, he averaged how much and he's a Hall of Famer. Well, yeah, if you're on 8 championship teams and you're a third best player, okay, you're gonna get Hall of Fame treatment, but maybe not Hall of Famer in those traditional numbers. I wish we would just celebrate LeBron and not try to categorize it or he's no Michael Jordan. Okay, if you said I had one game to win, I would take Michael Jordan. But I'm looking at a career and I can't deny what I saw. What I've seen. And really what's to come. Who knows how long he's going to play? I mean, it's remarkable to be this good at this age. And you're going to be the all time leading score, and you're going to be top 5 and assist.

"See, would you give the poll question again? The official wording of the poll question. I'd be happy to. Okay. The official wording of the poll question. If the chiefs lose on Sunday, it's going to be because of Patrick Mahomes ankle. Or Joe burrow's arm I put. Okay. Yeah, I'm going to go positive that it would be Joe burrow. Not that Patrick Mahomes would be hampered. You would be with 62% of the audience. Okay. Those are the smart people. Yeah, they are. Absolutely. Yes, Pauly, with the quizzical look on your face. Look at the NFL MVP list, and I think the odds right now are that mahomes is going to win it. Okay, now MVP voting is right after the regular season right before the playoffs. So all the votes were in. Yes. What if you had the MVP voting, this Sunday Night to Monday. So we take out the Super Bowl. Right. Before the Super Bowl, after the playoffs are over, I know that's not regular season, but I think Joe burrow would MVP if you did the voting. If he beats Kansas City. Right. Because if mahomes wins this game on a bad ankle, what if Jalen hurts beats the niners? Yeah, but like, there's no playoff MVP. There's a super MVP, but not most outstanding player of the playoffs. What if you just cheated it back a little bit and or would that be would that weight the postseason too much? Which you should wait the poster. You should, but that's why you have a Super Bowl MVP. And I don't know if they have a conference title game MVP or any of that stuff. I don't think they do. I don't think so. It feels like the NBA has a some kind of award to hand out with every round of the playoffs. And here's the Bill Russell award. Here's the George mikan award. Yes, of course. It's the Tommy heinsohn, Eastern Conference championship MVP award. It'd be the dominant McNabb award. He was in the NFC title game a whole bunch. Yes. Maybe? Yeah. I think people would like that. If they suggested, do the voting afterwards. Sometimes people would look at if mahomes gets it over burrow and burrow wins this weekend. People will go really? Yeah, but then you have to remind people to regular season award. You know, Jalen hurts is the first player since 1970. First quarterback since 1970 to be a top 5 passer and top 5 in rushing touchdowns.

"And you know, he was always, he captured the game. And he had emotion, but he didn't he never, ever took a game. He never hijacked it. It always felt like he was there to complement the game. I feel like what that caller is talking about too, because there are some cultural things that go into this. Absolutely. That I totally get. I think the American broadcast are pretty terrible. The English broadcasts are pretty great though, because they just have a very colorful way of describing the game and they're sort of talking around the game, but not necessarily doing the play by play. Hitting things and so I think that that's actually really well done. Yeah, I agree with the cultural part of it. It always felt like the guy who was calling the action wants to get in on the action by how he calls he says gold. And it's kento Cantor is a legend. An absolute legend. Yes, he is. Yes, he is. Yes. I do like the British broadcasters, especially with soccer. That was a rubbish rubbish ball in. I like the word they use. It's like Tommy heinsohn when he used to call a Celtics game. They were always great. Because you could hear when he was angry or that he wanted somebody thrown out or wanted to fight somebody. Yes. I wish I knew who this one dude was, but NBC has a guy who does the games, and he's hilarious. I don't know if he's Scottish or what, but he's like, the ruler around like a bag of Keaton's on the dick of a sailboat. This is no control. And you're like, this dude is hilarious. You did say deck of a sailboat. I think that's Roy Hodgson. Roy Hodgson is a longtime British announcer. And he will do that. Hilarious. That's good. "In my parents bed. You think about everything that he endured, the things he said about how he was a Celtic, he wasn't a Boston member, and you understand where he's coming from because of everything that he endured to be rejected by the city of Boston. When he was, he should have been the hero of Boston at the time. I never was comfortable playing for themselves because the number one paper was the Boston Herald and they didn't like the idea of having black players. And this is a big part of why when Bill Russell retired, he was done with the city of Boston, and he didn't want the statue and they had to they had to really convince him to get a statue recently. So we're here to celebrate the whole man, not just his records as a Celtics. We're not here to represent just his block shots and all of those different things. And I remember being at the statue ceremony, and he was so old that he collapsed a little bit, like during the proceedings, and he had to sit down and rest and people were kind of freaked out. I don't think he ever had his reckoning where the city truly came face to face with its own past to honor him and the way that they should have until it was a little bit too late, honestly. He's a role model to all Americans. All Americans, and Boston, we owe it to gratitude to him. And if we're honest and apology, to his family, you know, Tommy heinsohn, who was his teammate and was a beloved Celtic who stayed with the organization all the way until he passed a couple years ago. I won't quote him because he cursed it, but he said that it was so absurd that they named a tunnel after Ted Williams when Bill Russell won the most championships of anybody we ever seen. IB Ted Williams deserves his plot it's for sure, but like Bill Russell was the ultimate champion in Boston history. And it was a shame that he didn't get to enjoy that legacy the way that he should have. But what's been great is that you see when he passed, he was an absolute national hero. And he's a huge part of why our country has progressed so much. And so I think what's been great to see is, even if he never quite got the do that he deserved in Boston, he will continue to see his legacy live on across the entire country. My name is Ryan Jones. I'm in the interpretation department at the national civil rights museum, which is the site of the assassination of doctor Martin Luther King Jr.. Sort of understand the world the world in which Bill Russell was coming up in in the early 20th century, the Deep South during this period, leading in between the first and second world wars was grounds for racial terrorism and the country. When I was enthusiastic, my brother kept me away from white people, but she could. And she kept white people away from me because she said, you don't know what they'll do. African Americans are completely disbarred from attending certain schools, all public facilities across the country, and any time African Americans appear to threaten this way of life specifically in the Deep South there would be repercussions and that would range from simple intimidation to beatings and even murders. What happened to the knights of the Ku Klux Klan had this black guy on the Woods beating him and you could hear him screaming and crying for mercy, at least about the way. So many African Americans and they were migrants of the Deep South, but there was this, in a way, the 20th centuries underground railroad were African Americans are leaving the rural south and areas where they had a better life. It was security. It was opportunity. It was protection. You know, you could hold your head up in areas such as Chicago, Gary, Indiana, Detroit, Baltimore. The Midwest, even those that went to California, which is exactly where the family of Bill Russell went as he was coming of age. Nowadays, we call it we migrated from Louisiana to California where I was in third grade. In those days we said we escaped. The role that African American athletes serve during the civil rights struggle was one of embraced in the 1930s and 40s specifically when there are barriers that are beginning to be broken across the line of sport with Jesse Owens wins the gold medal in 1936. Jackie Robinson, desegregate, Major League Baseball in 1947, Earl Lloyd is drafted in 1950 integrating the National Basketball Association. But when Bill were also comes into the league in 1956, I believe, drafted after a stellar career at the university of San Francisco. It is still staunchly segregated and Bill Russell is drafted to it a team that was known for its subtle not so subtle practices of racial discrimination, blatant racism, but yet it does not defer his level of playing in the NBA as he's one of the more successful players in the history of this association.

"So I told him you were my dad's favorite player and he looked over and he got that big smile and he said, that just means your dad was a smart kid. And that laugh, man, that high pitched raspy laugh that you knew it was him. I got to hear that. It was just us and then he said, hey, when you're covering the team, don't be too tough on the guys. They're doing their best. They don't want to lose. They don't want to play badly when they do. Be fair, you can be critical, but don't be too tough on them. Gail. And that's something that's kind of tried to I've tried to have stick with me a little bit with covering the team. And then the other thing I'll say is I was my dad, probably I don't know about your parents, but my dad's like not like attached to news. We here everything in sports because we have our phones with us constantly we're sitting in front of a screen. He's not like that. So when something happens, I tend to call him and tell him like, hey, this happened because he'll hear about it later. In the day, but with Bill Russell, I called and told him and we talked and he started kind of going down memory lane and then he paused for a minute and then he said, you know, the Russell Tommy heinsohn, John havlicek, Frank Ramsey, Sam Jones. And then he really paused for a second and I could hear it catching his voice and he said, all my heroes are dying. And it really hit me because that's not something he's ever said before. You know, it really kind of hit me in. I get a little emotional, you know, because I don't know, sometimes I don't, I don't think in my dad having heroes, right? Think of that something. He is the hero, right? Right, yeah, exactly. And yeah, so it was really, you know, I think, I think for him, this is a kind of reconciling that is all mortality a little bit through the passing of the guys he rooted for in that, but it was as sad as it was, it was good to be able to connect with them. With my dad, and I talked to my dad regularly, but really to talk about some of the stories and stuff like that. And we got laughing about how I'd argue with him in my uncle's because my dad's a guy was Bill Russell, one of my uncles, guys, was John havlicek. I was obviously a Larry Bird kid. And then usually those arguments ended with somebody laughing and saying, man, you know, this is what we get to argue about.

"Continuing to harbor that, if KG's moved on, I'm willing to put it in the past too. But look, it's over. I want him to be a legend. I want him to be, look, I'll tell you, here's the other thing about yesterday. I don't think KG would respect your followers. I completely disagree with you. I completely disagree with you. I think the question you asked at the end of 2006, in 2008, NBA Finals probably would suggest he knows exactly what I'm talking about. 'cause, you know, we've F with him. Like he wants, yeah, anyway. I can't do it like KG. I think we all know that. But look, this is, I'll tell you one of the other things that I took from yesterday's game. First of all, I treated this, I guess people are still retweeting about this. Yesterday, yesterday's Jersey ceremony was the first Jersey retirement in Celtics history. Where their Tommy heinsohn was not involved. The first time ever, right? Since 1957, he was there for every single Jersey retirement throughout. Even that interim period before he became a broadcaster was fired, he was still in the Celtics family and attending that involved. But he was that guy, right? And you look at like they did that legends all of a sudden Kelly Olynyk is a legend at halftime with a pistons game. You know what I feel like things are really stretching on that one. But to the point where we're taking photos of significant others of legends because the legends aren't around. So the Celtics have to have part of what made the Celtic fandom as a kid for me growing up. They need ray. I'm saying, I'm saying the Celtics need legends. The Celtics need mystique. And they need people who speak about Celtic mystique, who understand what it means to win in Boston. Who better than really encourage going to the enemy to be part of that? Oh, my gosh. You have got to stop. He's actually probably right on that one though. But that part of it, that small part. No, no, no. I know where we are. Everybody's moving. Look at where all these guys came from. It's like, this is where we are now. Everybody's moving all the time. But you need to make something special about this place, right? We haven't won a banner for 14 years. The time before that was 30 6, 36 years ago..

"To not be the guy that we have typically see but i think at his best that is The keeping a part of a lot of winning there with young teams and and it's not like he was just an innocent bystander. To their success he was a significant rotation player. To a team. That i think probably outperformed that a roster a few different times by making it to the eastern conference finals and they were right there you know and he was a guy getting big minutes on that team and so i always been smart fan. I am a marcus smart fan. How could you not be a huge you grit and grind. That's what marcus smart is right. Symbols qualities that you know self expands have long loved loved with both tony allen. You know who helped bring that to memphis the all time. Tommy points leader rest in peace time. He really might be the all time leader itami points. Lord knows. tommy tommy heinsohn man. I miss listen. South extremes with my dad watching tommy heights. It's the mike orman the smart. Oh my god he love marcus more. You know what i mean anyway. I think you'd probably get the best of marcus smart and it's not a it's not a crazy contract it's not. It's not a crazy contract and even if you are thinking we want to use him as a piece. I think you need to get the best of marcus you know. In order to make him. I think his stock right now is nearly as high as it could be. Because he's got a lot of fans around the league but he also did not have a good season and they didn't have a good season last year right. There was a lot of people that truly fell in love with marcus. Smart where they were making those eastern conference finals appearances and he was making game winning plays at the end of playoff games. Like that's the kind of thing that they did last year was just a. There's a disaster. It'll be interesting to see. How with. Dhaka how i ooh what the offense looks like. It looks like and how balanced responsibilities orcas you bring back al horford as well. Who's going to be getting some of those touches some facilitating opportunities around the elbows from the perimeter I i wonder like what is marcus. Smart swirl gonna look like. I would assume he's going to start over schroeder You also have josh. Richardson in the mix there. Now as well peyton pritchard. Who's hab an awesome awesome. Summer league grabbed that. It's just summer league But he had a great rookie season as well as late. first round. Pick so you get a lot of guards in that backcourt nevermind. Tatum and brown. "Where unlike middleton i feel like middleton like booker like chris paul knows where his spots are breaking roll and i think drew was kind of taking what the defense gives him and i think that just that just puts his sons defense especially eight. But i mean they're all kinds of their conservative and deceptive. You know they want you to take. Low percentage shots. So they're going to try to go into those And withdrew going the row of okay. Let's he's kind of just seeing how much closer he can get to the rim essentially and that's just a great way miss layups over deandre eytan essentially. That's kind of. That's kind of what's been happening to him. All series as opposed to like you know middleton just being a little bit more methodical. But i agree with jackie honestly. I just think he's doing a law is the set. This is going to go six. At least it might go seven. I think you wanna use him to just try to wear down chris. Paul and booker in whatever you can get from him like considered a bonus but honestly like it's like what you said. Jackie when you have when you have that type of mentality or shooting stroke or whatever you wanna call it Maybe it's just a moment of self. Del like whatever it is. You can't guarantee that that guy is always gonna be consistent. Like i don't really necessarily want to be running much stuff for him Honestly i would lean if you need to lean even more heavily on middleton and pick and roll like. I feel like that's a big reason. They also didn't turn the ball over very much He was just he was just really good in it So yeah. I think don't know i just i just feel like drew. Holiday deserves a bit of a defense. I get that. He's not shooting well and everybody is kind of focused on that. But it's just he's doing so much like full court press in the nba finals for a whole game. Like try squatting down that low for like for like five seconds you know like for me five seconds but like it's just yeah it's it's it's really incredible. He's also he's creating a ton of points with his steals like he's he's creating good offense for them. It's just not in the way that you know Chris paul or booker or middleton does sense sear. it still hasn't been line for finals be potentially with two big games may be st. I had a. He was nine to one before the finals. But it does seem. I guess jaanus or booker now. The way this series is yeah. Those would be yeah you to candidates. Hey some folks are quick to doubt the rookies or even understate. Their excellence their playoff series. Make no mistake. This is their time to shine and show out with career defining moments on that court. Here's a famous on minna. Go way back for your thinking about. Overlooked rookies Tom heinsohn who passed away recently. legendary celtics announcer hall of famer really great underrated player but as a rookie. Nineteen fifty seven celtics. The celtics had never won. The title goes to a game seven against the saint. Louis hawks bob cousy is terrible. Bow cousy goes to for twenty. Can't make a shot. He got bill russell. He's a rookie. Not totally an offensive player. He's only scored nineteen They need a hero. And who's the hero. Holy cross his own. Tommy heinsohn rookie puts up thirty seven points. Twenty three rebounds seventeen for thirty three Was awesome and fouls out in double. Ot what happens to this game goes to double ot heinsohn vows out. Famous shot of him crying on the sidelines. Can't believe he found out at the celtics end up winning the game in the last minute. They win by two. He gets carried off the court. There's a famous photo of him All these people surrounding him. It's one of the great rookie moments of all times in the finals. You heard about magic in nineteen eighty heard about some other ones but i think that was the first great one and that's a wrap. Just like these rookies like tommy heights at one on the court you can win with your insurance getting the personalized service of a local agent offer. I don't if they were baseless but certainly do For sure right. They were indeed. It is unlike semi today's players. Clowney never complained about it. I mean he never. He never was complaining about the situation or anything else like that. He was sad about it. He was disappointed. But connie had you know when you read stories about. Connie hawkins one thing that often missing is wonderful. Warm sense of humour and a sense of himself. I mean he'd been a schoolboy star in new york. It's starting games at madison square garden. He was used to like to say this. He said i was doctor. Jay before dr j. He was a high flying artist at the time of One only someone like elgin baylor was doing some of the in. The air antics that Made connie famous. He had hands the size of julius erving's and those hands like twice when they're extended they were twice the size of my hands. My hands by the way are exactly the same has an interesting history because not only did he. Coach the cleveland pipers but he coached in the. Aba he he coached in the nba. He's one of four individuals along with john wooden. Tommy heinsohn and lenny wilkins and john wooden did i. Mention john wooden who were also who are in the basketball hall of fame as both coaches and players and when abe sap pristine was considering using a three point shot. He enlisted bill sharman. Who was a great shooter to determine the distance Bill said it was the original twenty five feet just slightly too long and he convinced that pristina they should go from back of the hoop instead of the front of the hoop to make that twenty five foot distance and the other thing is that pristine is the one who introduced the red white and blue ball to basketball because he did that with the harlem globetrotters and they did it with the b l and then of course when the aba came along and They adopted that same ball prompting. Alex had 'em who had been a great coach in the nba and it was now with the oakland oaks to say when he was asked about the red white and blue ball and what he thought of it he said i think it belongs on the nose of a seal so i don't think he put the players liked it. Players liked it. They said you could see the rotation of the ball and it helped them with their shooting and so forth so they were wonderful days. I the worst night. One night at the freedom all in louisville kentucky which was one of my favorite stops on the aba tour. I was outside the locker. Room of the kentucky. Colonels and i was interviewing dan. "Evans, but he dominates. So he played for Sacramento right back in the day. So I think he played Seattle. Yeah, maybe. You know he was a journeyman around. He played for the dad paper. He's maybe Sacramento. But he's been around and he's beast out there. Rashard Lewis is out there. So that's a lot of good players that Lot of guys you know, like another fun guy to watch and play is Ricky Davis. He doesn't necessarily talk shit stuff to other people. He talks more to himself. Come on, Ricky D let's go. Let's get this thing going, so it's always fun to see that as well. That's that's That's so awesome. I love it. If you're just joining us, we're speaking with former NBA standout and was a great player at USC played for my Boston Celtics for a little bit. Brian Scalabrine e Big three in town. Okay, So you know, there are a couple guys actually that live here in Vegas, Brian that playing this thing. Junkyard dog is one of the names that comes to mind. He had a little run there in the Big Three a lot. So who out there is the kind of team and who are the types of players out there that are out there this season that fans can expect to watch a type of player that you don't want to have to defend. Well, Joe Johnson is the best player in the league. I mean, I don't know if it's even close like he. He's a guy who never stopped working out. He tried to get back into the N B A. And I think He's one of those guys that I think about 10 years ago, we came in the league No one I think around 10 4011. He started picking up yoga, and I still think he does it every yoga day. So yeah, like it's like, you know, because when you get older, like the biggest thing you'll see with with with with guys They can't get as long as they used to. They can't get their bodies in position to turn corners and stuff like that. But Joe seems to be like a far and away the best player in the league. But I think what was surprising about this league is there's a lot of guys People don't know like the Franklin Sessions and will McDonald or last year David Hawkins. Guys who might not necessarily be big names in the NBA. The guys that can really play and guys who Are in really great shape and keep themselves uh, ready for this moment are guys who still continue to compete overseas. You know, they're not. They're not doing what I do is just like, you know, doing the commentary for the Boston Celtics, right? You guys are grinding all year or playing in China. The the kid Isaac Austin, who's uh To us. It never went pick in the draft like there's a lot of these guys are still out there trying to make a living for themselves, and this is a great opportunity for them. And it's pretty good money. I mean, I've heard some of the money that they're paying guys signing. It's decent money, sir. I mean, listen, I know I know you're not doing it for that reason you're okay. But there are some guys out there that you're talking about that maybe don't have that NBA money. And they're able to possibly make six figures playing this season. That's big for them. And it's a great platform for them, and we have a guy on our team who has plenty of money been playing overseas forever will McDonald and he said, it's amazing that some of his friends and family and everything could turn on CBS and or or trailer sports and all of a sudden watch him play because it's not like you guys are getting games in China or Japan or Venezuela or whatever it is sure it's a big deal for these guys to get their families a turn on T V and watch them place, So if you're just joining us, we're speaking with Brian Scalabrine E Big three Coming to town. It's their fourth season July 10th. I didn't even mention Brian's the co host of the starting lineup on Sirius XM Radio, which I've listened to as well, you do a great job with that. Let's talk a little Boston Celtics. You're you're filling some big shoes. I used to love listening to Tommy Heinsohn. Right. Give Walter I love Walter. Give him a Tommy Point. You know, I grew up a big Celtics fan. I grew up in Connecticut, Brian, and now you're working alongside Mike Gorman, who was just to me. He's a Hall of Fame broadcaster. I remember meeting him when I was 14 or 15 years old at the Hartford Civic Center. If you recall Brian back in the day, the Celtics used to play games there, and I asked him for advice, and he gave me great advice and But you know you're one of those guys. You're you're extremely well spoken. You're very good at what you do. You are a member of the media now. Just like me. Did you think in your playing days? Hey, You know what? When I retire, this could be good for me. I think I can do this. I can be a color commentator like Was that something? When was the first time you've said yourself? This is something I think I want to explore and I want to do Yeah, So wherever we started having success in Boston was the 78 season where we ended up winning the championship and Tommy Heinsohn at that point who I agree with you and what we disagree with you. I would never feel his shoes that guys like a big time legend. I'm just trying to, like, provide people like entertainment long doing and you're very good at what you do. Yeah. But Tommy Hank didn't didn't travel as much as you saw him a couple games and you saw someone else take the spot and I'm thinking to myself. I'm doing the math. You're like whether I had to. For maybe five more years left, which I ended up playing five more years. So seven and I end up being done around in 2012 and so right around there. I was, like, you know what? This is a job that I would want to do. I've always wanted to be a coach. But I recognize when I'm around those guys, you see, man, those guys put in a tremendous amount of work. They're working 18 hours a day and they're getting fired. They're moving from here to there. There's no stability..

"It's a it's a great great cause and it'll be a fun event I just wanted to comment on your marv thing. I actually had that written down last week. Talk about this with you. You've never actually told me that you were big. More fan never I probably should've asked you at some point Considering that that's where you grew up and you were massive knicks fan. But i i can totally appreciate you know All of the honors. I mean it's it seems like over the last couple of weeks. It's been every single night that there's been a marv albert you know segment or something. And i understand. Specially for new yorkers what he's meant to them you know over a long period of time with that said to me and it's not that i it's not that i'm not a mar fan and i i think he's always called a solid game but to me and on the national level. He's not even close to some of the greatest lead play by play people In you know over a lot of different sports like he's not in some summerall or gowdy or keith jackson. Give me a basketball name Jim nance college basketball For sure dick. End berg college basketball brent musburger the nba lee not even close in my body. Yeah you're right you're right not even close just got that fought on. I think that. I think that new yorkers have a completely different view and i know that nba fans a lot of them have loved. Marv i'm just telling you my opinion. Okay that if you told me right now. These upcoming nba finals are going to be called by marv. Or brent musburger even brent at eighty two years old gimme brent prints still owed okay. Don't don't make me. Don't make me come through this phone. It's unbelievable. have you heard we were asking that. I'm ending ending this with what what such a bad taste. This is just horrific. This is the most horrific thing you've said to me since i can remember. Why haven't you told me before in the many years we've been doing stuff together that you were a big mar fan. I've never heard. Because i i assume everybody who listening to marv albert would be a big mar fan. I didn't think we i actually come across. Somebody watches the game and doesn't think more of his great. But i found the guy. I think marv again i think he deserves all of the honors. I think he deserves praise for being really good. I don't put him anywhere near the class of the great lead. Play by play guys of all time from on my list. The some roles the galaxies. The keith jackson's jimmy is what we have to keep it the basketball okay. Well you know. First of all mark did more than basketball he did. Nfl for years. No one has ever claimed that his greatness was it was anything but the but nba basketball. My brain learn from mike. Breen's much better than marv's ever been. I'm just telling you. Mike breen is so much better than us finishes. I'm so angry. I can't even think straight about the more of stuff. Yeah yeah. I was thinking though that the marv stuff in terms of just the nba like dick. Stockton for years followed brent musburger who throughout you know. The seventies was the lead play by play guy with rick barry and with bill russell right. That was the that was the. I think sometimes just rick perry then it was dick stockton. Who was the lead For with tommy. Heinsohn on cbs. And then when it went to nbc. That's when marv it over And so stockton is known just as much for football brent's known just as much for football where marv definitely of those names and breen to definitely known much more for basketball so i will give you that but again. That wasn't my point. Anyway my point is is that i would have taken In terms of lead play by play guys a lot of guys. Before i'd take him. Oh you made your point. All right. Yes i did. Were done for the day You'll be back right. We're done you. You'd be back on thursday And for everybody else. Enjoy the day see..

That was there for for milwaukee but lopez came in and took that position took responsibility to get the ball in the paint. And when you get the ball in the paint go up with some force into score to punish the atlanta hawks. Who look like a situation where i'm going to be honest with you. The milwaukee bucks speaking from basketball definition just beat up physically beat up the atlanta hawks. There all over the offensive glass they enforce the will and now we're gonna go to game six. Of course everyone related every one. That's on the milwaukee bucks team right now from the coaching staff to the players. Really don't have that type of connection and winter speaking about you know some type of connection from the older me. This is not the. We are family elite type of our team with the milwaukee bucks. There really is not really had been that type of connection. Sal we stay with the old school. Deer rally or whatever out there the laughing it up with the fans so from the last time that the bucks made the nba championship to where they are right. Now in the position that they are right now in the run that they have right now. I don't see the connection from those former buck teams or that last but team who made it to the championship to be connected with the run and the passion in the journey that this milwaukee bucks team is on but still man. You're right there. You are right there. You don't need to be planning for history if your might boot holder and those guys you'll need to be worrying about what happened in nineteen seventy something you don't need to be talking about the four year drought. This is for you man. Be selfish and talk about this for us chris. Middle to the second round. Pick from detroit. "This guy is so great that he almost average triple double combined for the first three or four years of his career. Well now at the end of the season russell westbrook's average. What a triple double for for the past five years and now we're up there. Speaking about now we're trying to find ways now. We're trying to find avenues. And now we're trying to find discussion points now. Trying to find an olympics to diminish that Achievement by russell westbrook well on the rebound stephen adams with box out the entire team and not go for the rebound so russell westbrook to go ahead and get a rebound or russell. Westbrook would be hunting triple doubles and i don't know how anybody hunts a triple double all the selfish players that have been in the league. I don't think that you know. No one was hunting triple doubles until russell westbrook seventh or eighth year. Lebron kevin durant decided to take his talents to the bay area. That russell westbrook said you know what i'm going to start hunting triple doubles and the fact that it was so interesting. Go ahead do that. He would do that not just one season. But average that for the next four or five seasons michael jordan hunted triple doubles. I forgot what year it was. I think what the year. I think one of the years that he won the nba championship. But there was a time in august or something. Now excuse me. There was a time to february or something like that where he would actually go to the scores table and ask the guys how. What am i statistics. How me rebounds do i have. How do i have. And what was just a matter of just trying to keep interested in the game. That was one of the main reasons why he was doing it. Because it just needed something a challenge to go by so jordan. I think maybe a month concentrating on average a triple double for the month so if anybody was going to be hunting out triple doubles of you. Wanna put it in russell. Westbrook also better. You also include michael jordan. In that scenario. I read a book loose balls by terry. Pluto who were slew are talking about the nba. Back in the sixties in the fifties. And when the league's first started he was interviewing guys. Like tommy. heinsohn. Bob cousy and all these guys and billy cunningham and such and they said that the year that wilt chamberlain nineteen sixty seven sixty eight season. The wilt chamberlain led the league in assists. Not in the brain, the Celtics are the Sixers are not and the Celtics home. So, the point is something happened between the but that, that Miami fight that Washburn covered, right? Then in the bubble, the one was smart, screaming and yelling. Oh, opening night, cuz I don't think they've been the same since that game. Hm, right. I'm you know, I'm going to get out of your guys, but I do this. This is my last appearance of the Season. Thanks to everybody. There's a lot of fun and I as a spectator have never been more entertained by a post game show more than a game. There were a multitude of games. I didn't watch guys, but I tuned in to the post game show, so Kick-Ass and the listeners to in the viewers and the Chatters. Thank you. I'll see you in La Crosse. Sure, I'd I want to keep that conversation going. Obviously, we'll hit more on who they're going to play on Tuesday and that kind of stuff tomorrow. Kg I was listening to the radio shack in a grand. Yeah, I was listening the Max and what I found. So I, I wasn't obviously covering the team back then. I was, let's see. Ten years old when kg arrived in Boston. I didn't, I wasn't a credentialed involving. I did not. I was no Shams starting at at 12 or whatever he did. I found the craziest thing about that time, they've obviously done a documentary and this and that about that error people didn't weren't necessarily sure if they wanted Garnett, you had Tommy heinsohn. Now it's saying that if Al Jefferson was traded he was going to quit. You had Max Steel in a similar way and quite a few people in the city. It seems like weren't sure if they want to trade, Al Jefferson for Garnet, which seems crazy to me now, I remember Jefferson, especially once he got the Charlotte and it had probably the best season of his career in Charlotte. Probably the last best post play season that we've seen in the NBA off before it officially died. So, Jefferson was a great player and he ended up having a great career. But when you think about what kg brought the boss, then the fact that that was even a conversations crazy to think about. Now I I just whenever I heard anyone say that, you know,.

"Celtics Legendary player coach broadcaster Tommy Ison passing away at age 86 where the guy was incredible over more than 60 years. You know, with the Celtics, you know part of all their championship 17 championships between a player coach broadcaster. I mean, pretty amazing life that Tommy Heinsohn lived 1934 to 2020 thiss guy was A lot of fun to listen to he get, you know, Hey, got on the bad side of Knicks fans back in the day. He was somebody that had a short fuse when he was coaching. But he was a gamer. I mean, If you were playing Frank's in or if you were rooting for I intend you felt good because this guy never quit. And I mean, he called timeout. Sometimes in games that looked like there's no chance to win this game. He'd have you played. He come up with some strategy. I mean, I like times, and I thought he had a great basketball mind. Just like you be Brown when I listen to you, you know, is a color commentator. Oh, man, That guy gets it. I got the same thing from Tommy Heinsohn. He knew that he knew the game inside out. And was a solid player but really was a solid coach for many years with the Celtics a CZ well and I remember growing up. And watching a lot of those playoff games. You know, back the Eastern Conference back in the seventies late 60 seventies, and you saw the Knicks in the Baltimore Bullets. They were back in the day and then you know, those were great games, and then you got to the next round. And a lot of times there were those those Celtic teems with Honda John Avlon check and and number 10 Jo Jo White. Uh, you know so many great players, Paul Silas on that team, and just just a bunch of good, solid players. And, of course, the Celtic teams in the eighties with you know, D J and Bird and Change, and Robert Parish, the chief Boy. Lots of good stuff with that Celtics organization. But, Tommy, I said, part of it for as long as anybody and he will be missed, But 86 years old, I'm sure Tom, you tell you Hey. Lived one heck of a good life. We heard that come from our good pal Alex Trebek, who passed away 80 years old Tommy Heinsohn. 86 years old. Ah, lot of milestones there and a part of that Celtics team for a long, long time
