"Podcast. What do you think? Yeah, if you're my landlord and you're listening to this, I'm not, I'm not, I promise you 100% on the record not gonna sneak in a dog. It's not that Sarah Abbott, if you might sound like her, you know, the opinions might be the same. She might be working for ESPN, but it's not Sarah Abbott. That you know. Today, a lot of conversation the podcast about Shohei Ohtani. Alan Gonzalez wrote a great story earlier this week in which he talked with executives around the sport about the size of the contract that a ton is going to get. So we've got Sarah Lang's. We got Paul and bikinis. We have Alden Gonzalez. He's going to join us. And before we get started, guys, I want to I want a quick estimate from each of you. What is the number for ohtani in total value of the contracts area first? I'm going to go four 50. I know that's like egregious, but I think I'm going to go four 50. Taylor? I think the market's going to be hot. I think he's going to hit 600 million, I think, you know, 5 is probably the starting point for him, but I think it's going to get to 6. It's going to be wild. Wild wild west. I think we had to do some sort of a like a lottery. You know what I mean? Or some sort of a betting on the birth date of a baby. We should all like come up with a chart. Maybe have listeners, you know, and maybe have listeners chime in and we can fill out one of those big charts and what numbers are still available. Does that make sense? I love that. I'm jotting it down right now. I love that. Okay. Before we get to all that conversation, we'll just run through some of the transactions the last week, Tommy, fam agreed to a one year $6 million contract with the New York mets, the mets, adding extra depth on their everyday roster. It looks like fam is going to be kind of a fourth outfielder right handed DH type. The cubs signed first baseman Trey Mancini to a two year contract, this is someone who I think is going to help balance their lineup. Maybe serve as DH first base, share time with Eric Hosmer. Andrew McCutchen, returning to the pirates on a one year $5 million deal, that's pretty cool. The brewers signed former Marlins outfielder infielder Brian Anderson one years, 3.5 million. Chris haddock, who's coming back from Tommy John surgery, agreed to a 12.5 million three year contract, that gives paddock some guaranteed money, but it also, you know, locks him into the locks him into with the twins in terms of getting through his rehab and having an affordable contract as he goes forward. I reported last week that all triple-A parks are going to use an electronic strike zone in 2023. I'm going to ask Alvin about all that. Earlier this week, Billy Apple, the mets general manager met with reporters, the introduced a couple of assigning from this winter, and he was asked about the team losing out on Carlos Correa. I think we have a strong and deep lineup. I'm confident in our group's ability to score runs, but look, I think this goes without saying. And I think I've said it in the past relating to any one of the areas of the organization. You can always be better. The mets continuing to try to get better as they move forward. The Red Sox also have been very busy as we get down the stretch here, signing some players as well. Taylor, what else you got? Buster, NBA season is in full swing. We got a full slate of offerings over here at ESPN podcast that includes the CJ McCollum show, the VC show with Vince Carter. You've got the low post with Zach Lowe and the hoop collective with Brian windhorst. You can check all of those out wherever you're listening to this podcast right now. That

"Great phone call for Al, comes on, drops of Friends, name like Adam, you drop bear, he drops Adam. You know, and then he starts, starts calling your team crap. From his previously glass made house and MetLife, right? Then he goes higher register out the door. Well done. I'm all in on the Giants. I gotta ride with Danny dimes now. In fantasy. He picked them up. It's not just that too, man. You are what you are and the Giants are 6 and one with the Giants do is they come back on you. They take your punches and then they don't make the mistakes at the end you do. Yeah, but that's an equate to fantasy goodness and that's what he's looking for. He's done for 33 points this way. Oh yeah. Okay. Rush for a hundred yards. Maybe you should take Justin Fields now. Available? And then I got picked up yesterday, right? Oh, wow, somebody won with him? No, no, no. Players in the middle of the week? Well, he hadn't played yet. But the week. Oh boy. Wow. Ralph Macchio Karate Kid and the best Joe Pesci story of hurting a while coming up. Weirdly. But the league like the week was already going. No, you can also in my league if you drop somebody on a buy because they haven't been locked yet. And you pick somebody up who hasn't played yet. You can grab them. So you could add patriots. Do you remember when Adrian Peterson came off the couch last year in the Titans had him? I grabbed him because he was, it was announced on a Monday he was going to play. And I picked him up before any of the other guys in my league could, and I dropped somebody on a buy week and they freaked out. They almost went Tommy Pham on me. Like full Tommy fam. Just rolled up and slapped him. That's all fair, yeah. So I'm like, that's the one. I did not break the rules. No, I know. That's what they were saying. I did not break them. Hey, what's up with Murph? Murph is just living life large. He's actually returning to the poker table Thursday. We haven't seen him in months. Still banned. He's just happy. It's great for him. He's great. He's great, despite Wisconsin, having an interim head coach and my jets beating his packers. Oh yeah, he's still fine. When I see him Thursday night, when I see him on this Thursday, the chest will say hello. Mister khaki pants. Back, by the way, I am just

"And the other NLEs team. Kind of like what the Phillies did, actually. So how about that? Picked up Noah syndergaard for getting louder. That's not a good sign. For Mickey moniak and another prospect and then they got David Robinson another go around for Robertson with the Phillies from the cubs. How about that? Pitching prospect. Then they picked up Brandon marsh from the angels too, like the angels were like everything must go except for tani. And then they also got Sosa from the Cardinals. So kind of like these moves. And marsh, like getting a marsh has not hit that well. You struck out a ton, but he is a good defender. He was recently a top prospect. And so the Phillies have needed that better than having a double Herrera out there for multiple reasons, so to get marsh to get Robertson who has been lights out this year and to get kindergarten who is not like flame throwing Thor peak. But is still an effective mid rotation guy, it seems like, you know, nice work for the Phillies, I think. Yeah, I quite liked their deadline. You're right that marsh has not hit, I think he has like an 80 WRC plus or something right now. But the thing about Brandon marsh that is different from the other guys in the outfield for the Phillies is that he is an actual outfielder. Yes. He is not a DH, pretending to be an outfielder, and I think that I think they're going to enjoy that experience. I think they're going to be like, hey, you know, this brand of marsh guy can play some defense. Yeah. At least he gets to keep his hair, presumably, so that's nice at least. The Phillies as we speak are tied with the Cardinals. Yeah. The race for that last wild card spot, so I think they got better by more than the Cardinals did for whatever that's worth. Obviously getting Harper back would be the biggest addition that they could make, but they've played pretty well even in his absence. So they have kind of rated the ship there and they're trying to be better. So I like the work they did there at the end. So we've hit on all the teams, I think, that made a lot of moves and we've talked about some of the teams that made no moves very few. Right, and I guess the only other teams that were kind of caught in the middle somewhere where the Red Sox, right? Real weird deadline the Red Sox kind of a confounding deadline. They traded Vasquez. They also traded for Hosmer and excited for Tommy Pham. That was interesting. I guess the Hosmer is that like the equivalent of the schwarzer move from last year because I don't think that's going to work out as well. I mean, I don't know, they were kind of a bubble team and I'm okay with them like not trading big pieces away and trading bogarts and all like they have a chance and they're the Red Sox. They can keep those guys. They could sign guys. That's fine. But yeah, the moves that they made, like some subtracting some addition at the same time, like not a clear direction there, not sure what to make of that. Yeah, I mean, I guess. So it's not that Eric Hosmer was free, right? Because they did send a prospect to San Diego to help balance that deal, but they're not really paying error Cosmo or anything. Right. So he's basically free. And I don't say that to knock J groom. It's just like, it wasn't an exorbitant package that went back and forth. So there's like that piece of it. And tiny fam was like giving away for practically nothing. I think that was a player to be named later as the other side of that deal for them, right? So like, you can't get a Tommy fam and Enrique Hernandez has been hurt very much of the year and French Cordero is bad. And so like, okay, but then you move Vasquez and doing that has inspired some of their other players to be like, what are we doing? Again, I think that you want to try to avoid moves that inspire like that degree of Clubhouse Discord, and they were all professionals, but like when Xander bogarts is like, what are we? That seems not the best. That seems like something has gone wrong. So it was just kind of a weird deadline for them. I think that, you know, if we're looking at the AL east, it's like, obviously, the Yankees from the Yankees were a playoff team. You heard it here first folks. And then I think that the Blue Jays will Blue Jays their way and that seems like it's going to go fine. And then the rays keep hanging around despite the fact that their entire rosters hurt. So I really liked that Peralta pick up for them. I think that's going to end up being good. Although they did make some 40 man consolidation trades where they gave up guys who seem like they might be something just because they have to clear 40 man space. So that's suboptimal, but they were going to have to do that in the off season anyway, so whatever. The J's were linked to a lot of guys they didn't get, and then they ended up getting a few. They got Zach pop, who I will always remember for being the first major leaguer we met in meet a major leaguer, so they got him from the Marlins as well as Anthony bass, and really, if you're the Marlins and you have Anthony bass, you have to hold on to the guy named bass and also I got rid of fishman. I know they promoted and then demoted Jake fishman. Fishman and Marlins, come on, marwan, so what are you doing? Questions about their deadline beyond that, probably, but also like if you're collecting fish themed guys. Yeah, you got to get all the fish guys. Come on. Look, we will take trout's contract. I'm just saying. He is a fish man. Yeah. The moments ended up not trading Pablo Lopez. I think they need to rejigger that roster at some point. Really? Yeah. So they didn't do much at the deadline. But the Blue Jays, they got best they got, pop, they got Mitch white from the Dodgers and then hilariously they got muirfield from the royals who I assume will indeed be getting vaccinated. I think the Jays don't have a home game for about ten days, so he has a little time to get the jab and have that take effect and not miss too much time when they return home. But there was like a very smooth bit of finessing on that question because I think they were asked about that and he was like we're getting to know him like that's between him and his family and it's like look I think we have made our position on whether or not people should get vaccinated clear but you know you have to like manage people, some of whom might have beliefs that are not in accordance with yours or certainly not in accordance with your roster requirements, but instead you're like, it's between him and his family and then you can have a soft conversation. Instead of being like, he's a dummy. We're mad about it. Yeah. I mean, they must have some. Well, he said, right? But if he was traded to a contender rate, which is pretty obvious that it's like, yeah, if you're a winner, I'll think about it. Right. He doesn't sound like that. It's rude for me to do my goofy guy voice when doing these things, but that is how it feels. Yes, and the other team that was kind of like, uh, which way are you going? The Giants, right? So we talked about a couple of minor giants moves.

"Man, Neanderthal, basketball brain, kind of looks at that body going, wow. How's that going to hold up in the NBA? And the NBA is not a tough man contest. In fact, some of the some of the power forwards that used to play in the league and were the big tough players, probably wouldn't be in the league right now because they're not coveted. They might make a team, but they wouldn't be starters like they were because they can't stretch the floor and shoot it. And the game's really changed in that regard and over and I think is a reflection of that kind of change. He's a perimeter, big guy. He's not a low post guy. So while you were talking about him, we were showing a couple of pictures on the screen from Gonzaga's season. While we're just on the subject matter of Gonzaga, are you surprised that drew Timmy earlier this month withdrew and said I'm going back to school for a senior year? Were you surprised by that? Not really. He did the same thing last year and I don't know, it's easy to say he enjoys college or all that. He'll be the player of the year of this next year. Just sort of as he was right there for it this year. And he probably looks at his experience as being some unfinished business as far as winning the national championship. They could have done it a couple of years ago. They had a chance last year and got knocked out before the suite 16, which are the elite 8, which hardly ever happens with them. So I don't know all the reasons he came back. Selfishly glad I get to watch him another year because he's a fantastic player to watch. I've got Jay bilas here on the rich eisen show. Which one who's got the biggest upside? Is it home run? I mean, to use the draft parlance right here in the NBA. Yeah, the parlance of our times. He has most of the highest ceiling, but jabari Smith of offering is right there with him. And I like Smith to, you know, even though this is plasma to say it, but he reminds you a little bit of Durant with what a magnificent shooter he is. He shoots 42% for three, made 79 threes on the year. And he's one of just a few players in the last 25 years to have scored 500 points. I think it's 250 rebounds and hit over 75 freeze. And one of them is Kevin Durant, the other was Dante green from Syracuse. And so it's been a long time since Dante green. But the fact there's only been three in the last 25 years show you shows you and made that he's a super talented player. He's also very good defensively. Like he could switch and guard multiple positions. He can block shots. He rebounds defensively at high rate. I think he's the real deal, but I can understand if pans out to be an all star player, which I think he will. Then it's a question of not so much, was it the right decision? Was it the best decision? Because Adrian was going to ask you said this yesterday that could be too right decisions here. And I think that's a fair way to put it. But, you know, how it is. Like whoever, whichever player is better, you're going to look back and if Orlando takes the second best player first, we're going to look back at ten years and just hammer their decision here, even though it's a coin flip. Similar to the way that we were hammering the decisions of the sixers and Lakers before Jason Tatum right now, is that what you're talking about? Yeah, yeah. Very much so. And look, how many drafts that we had in any sport where a player further down the line has turned out to be the better player. And football gets four and 5 years to look at those guys in college, basketball gets a year. For the best ones. And so it's a little more of a difficult task to determine to separate out productivity from potential and trying to project where somebody's going to be in 5 years, ten years versus what they look like now. And look, I mean, it's difficult. It's not impossible, but I have a lot of respect for those decisions and how difficult they can be. Jay Bill is here on the rich eisen show getting set to be an integral part of the ESPN draft coverage on Thursday night. Did I say that right? You did. I'm a little bothered by the whole rich eisen show thing. I mean, it's so much about you. And it's not really a wee thing with you, is it? Well, I'll bite. What do you mean, Jay? I always used to rank all rankle me when SportsCenter anchors of which you were an outstanding one. Thank you. Would throw the game day and say, now let's go out the reefs and the guys. And I like screw you. How about Jacob Seth Greenberg, lafonta Welles? And the host. Yes. You know, they don't say that. Right. Very disappointing. But you don't even have, it's not even rich eisen and the guys. It's just the rich eisen show. Look at me. Well, it's called. It's called a radio reset, and on top of it, Jay. I mean, my gosh, talk about harboring two decades of resentment. Oh, it's longer than that. I mean, that was almost Tommy fam like going snapping jock Peterson months after the fact. My gosh, I didn't. It just didn't occur. It just didn't occur to me. I mean, you got the silhouette of yourself. I mean, it's not even anybody in the background. Watching you run with your suit on. That's true. These are all facts. Guilty as charged. Should we be on the side? And I just used his preferred adjective and setting him up. No, and I appreciate it. I appreciate it. You're making strides, but boy, that resize and show thing, long way to go. Come on, way to go. Jay Billy. What upside there? Jay billis, who's more than just a guy talking about the NBA draft here on the rich eisen show. Who is the name of the European guy that fans are not familiar with and they're pissed off that the team is going to draft tomorrow night, but then they'll love them once he starts playing for the team. Who's that guy? There aren't a ton of internationals in his draft that are going to be taken in the first round. There's a big guy 6 11 Nikola yovich from Serbia. There's going to be a number of people that call him jokic by mistake, but really talented talented player that's very versatile and can not freeze down. I mean, I guess you'd say that stereotypical of what you call an international big guy now. But it's true of players period. If you can't, it doesn't matter your site. If you can't shoot it, you're not valued as highly anymore because you've got to be able to stretch the floor. It's a spread floor game now. But he's probably the one that will stand out in the first round. And there may be some sort of draft and stash letters in the second round. There's only 58 guys getting drafted this year, oddly enough. There are 60 usually 60 because there are 30 MBA teams, but two slots late in the second round, got forfeited. And yeah, I don't know what the forfeit policy is. That's the phrase that is the phrase that the NFL used in reference to the first rounder of the Patriots forfeited in the deflategate. That's a word. That's a word brockman, right? You and all you're new englanders, you have a problem with that word for sure it was forfeited, got it. You know what I mean? I don't know what that's about. Stolen, I'm not, as you know, words can be fungible items, Jay. You know that, right? Yeah, I prefer vacated. Far footed. That's another way to put it. But vacated indicates it was voluntarily given up. Yeah. I don't know, I don't know. Okay, so there's 58 58 draft choice. That's a quicker night for you. Isn't forfeit isn't forfeit voluntary. Force it by accident. That's true too. By the way, don't mess with words with Jay billis. He's going to parry and thrust the whole time. Don't worry about it. I'm still mad about it. This is a man who once put Barney on the stands as we know here on the rich eisen show and the guys here on the program..

"This is like the unstoppable force of this story met the immovable object of trout and just like the controversy free field that surrounds him at all times. He could have prompted another news cycle here if he had come out and sided with one player or another. Yes. Or just responded in kind to fam, but he opted not to do that very diplomatic, very commissioner like of him and so nothing controversial and maybe that will be the end of this thing. But boy, I did not foresee Nike trout entering the picture at that point. Nobody asked him why he's no longer repping super pretzel, seemingly, I was hoping someone would ask him that question. That's at the top of my mind, but the sea Trent report, I think the only other additional detail while there were a couple, one was that fam felt like Peterson didn't tell the entire story that maybe there had been more than just that lone GIF that he had sent for 5 insults of some sort, possibly or tense or gifts or who knows what. And he also said that he had heard from a number of people in the league who reached out to him in support of fashion. Possibly there just all scared of getting slept. Or being forced to be the commissioner. Yeah. They want to get on his good side in case he's in the league again. Or the other development, I think, was that we found out what the buy in was here. Because you had wondered how much money I sure did wonder that. So we learned, again, great reporting by Trent, but it seems as if the initial buy in was $10,000, and then there was an additional 10,000 that had to be paid by the loser the last place finisher of the league, which fam was in no danger of losing, seemingly he said he was in second when he quit and left the league. So a $10,000 initial buy in, that's a lot for you and me and most of our listeners. Oh yeah. But that's not a lot for Tommy Pham. It's really not. He was making $8.9 million last year. That was just his base salary. $10,000 is like a little more than 1000th of that. Like if you were making 60,000 as your salary, that would be $67, which you wouldn't want to lose $67, but you probably also wouldn't slap someone several months later over having lost $67. So when you put that into perspective, like fam has talked about how he bought a $300,000 Bentley and how he lost $92,000 in a single day in the stock market. I mean, that's his prerogative to buy or lose whatever he wants. But compared to those losses or expenditures, 10,000 is a drop in the bucket. I mean, that doesn't seem like it's anything to get too upset about. So maybe it was more the gifts and the perceived disrespect there or some combination of the two or maybe like if you don't grow up as a multi millionaire, it's probably hard to put $10,000 in perspective and maybe you're still thinking, hey, $10,000, that's a lot of money. There are a lot of things I could do with $10,000. But as a percentage of his salary and probably most of the players salaries in that league, not really a lot. So that does not justify the slap anymore in my mind. Yeah, I think, yeah. Oh, I should say the piece I was quoting from extensively, I think, was written by Andy. It was not written by sea trend. Sorry, Andy. Yeah. So maybe that puts this all to rest. We'll see. I mean surprised. If there was more to the story somehow, but that's all we know as of now, but we will update this developing story as necessary. We did see fam evidently had issued some forewarning of the slap. Also, because in the group chat or whatever it was, the text chain at some point last year, fam wrote that the next time he saw Peterson, he would give him a quote pimp slap. So, Peterson was forewarned, I guess, and four armed for handed. We're slapped, whatever force. Maybe he forgot about that warning, or maybe he didn't take it seriously because I probably wouldn't have. But he did put it out there and maybe he felt like once he issued that threat or that vow or whatever it was that he had to make do. He had to make good on it no matter how long it took. I mean, I think our base conclusions to this have not changed, which is, you know, know who you're joking with and whether your relationship was close enough to allow for that, but also don't slap people. And now we've added a third lesson, which is do not appoint unenthusiastic fantasy football commissioners because that way lies slaps, I guess. I still feel weird enjoying this story because fundamentally someone gets hit in the face. Yep, that's not great. But it does, it does keep adding interesting little twists and turns. I guess that we are more likely to see the conclusion of this or have that we are likely to have seen the conclusion of this because Tommy fam is in the league anymore. I guess what will really be interesting to know is, are there further defections from the league as a result of this incident? Is there sufficient clarification of the rules? Do they pivot away from ESPN as a fantasy football provider to another platform that might better accommodate their bespoke rule structure? Yeah? Yeah. Well, I think maybe we know that we will know, but if someone is going to do an even deeper dive and put an oral history out there or maybe a 6 or 8 part reported narrative podcast, I would subscribe. I would read. So the appetite is there. But thank you to everyone for continuing to chase down this very serious and vital story. And I guess in other news related to recent flare ups between players and suspensions, Josh Donaldson came out and basically showed that he is not all that contrite or seemingly hasn't learned the lesson that one would hope that he would have learned because he came out and issued a quote to the AP. He said that he was hurt that his teammates with the Yankees did not back him up after his Jackie taunts to Tim Anderson, which was something we observed when we discussed that that he really hadn't been backed up by his teammates and that Aaron Boone and Aaron judge and other people not named Aaron maybe seeing that. Come to his defense or had even expressed some disapproval of his comments, which seemed notable just because often teammates will just rally around their teammates, instinctively, no matter what happened. And so there was not a chorus of people backing up Donaldson here, which spoke to either Donaldson's popularity or lack thereof in that Clubhouse or just the nature of the offense here, but anyway, he seems that he is not pleased that his teammates did not have his back here and he said it was tough to hear those comments and I think everyone is playing the world's smallest violin for Josh Donaldson here, so he basically is painting himself as something of a victim here, I guess, that he did not receive the support. He still maintained that Anderson may be misinterpreted the references. He also said I haven't had a chance to talk to him, which it's been a while at this point. If he really wanted to reach out to Tim Anderson, I'm sure that he could have tried to arrange that at least, I don't know whether Anderson would have wanted to talk to him, but I think that he could have made that happen if he had really wanted to. So anyway, Josh Donaldson, Josh Donald Singh, basically. Yeah, it's like, you know, it's an intermediate step of self reflection, right?.

"All right, joining me now for the weekly train of thought segment right here on the SI media podcast as he does every week, although he was not around last week, he is so caught up from WFAN radio in New York and as NY TV. Sal, how are you? Good. We did not do the pod last week, but we did meet up for brunch on Memorial Day, which was nice. Little Maureen's kitchen free plug for them if you're on Long Island, the best breakfast place Long Island, Maureen's kitchen. Yeah, we did see each other. We didn't do this train of thoughts last week, which was fine because it was a kind of a dark and disturbing week, so we didn't need to, you know, yucking it up, but we will yuck it up this week because the best story to come down in a really, really, really, really long time in the sports world. Is this Tommy fam, jock Peterson? And now we get Mike Trout dragged into it. So let me just say a few things and then we'll I'm going to start I'm going to go backwards. I'm going to start with what took place on Wednesday. And I'm going to get it in trouble for this probably. And I don't care. There's this thing, you know, how Twitter has all these rules of who you're allowed to make fun of or who you're allowed to say negative things about who you're not. And one of the people on Twitter, especially baseball Twitter, they go great. You never allowed to say anything bad about Mike trap. God forbid. Even though he has zero personality. So Mike truck gets interviewed about this whole thing today and basically says no comment, no comment, no comment. It makes one little funny joke oh, every commissioner gets booed and doesn't want to talk about it. This is why baseball is in trouble. You have the best player in the game. As an opportunity to show some personality, be funny, have some fun, get some laughs, get some headlines. And he doesn't want to comment. I mean, Mike, can you give us a little bit? Can you do something? Just be a little bit of a personality for the sport. Instead he gives a total pass to a ridiculous story that the entire country is into. I mean, he doesn't have to do it. It's not his responsibility, but can you have like a little teeny personality and help maybe get some headlines for the game? Yeah, I think I've never been a Big Mike Trout fan. I don't know if it's because he plays on the angels or out west, but yeah, there is no, there is no draw there as far as personality goes..

"So it's segued from this fantasy football GIF dispute into standard baseball cliche language. Okay, so here's a question. Is it, first of all, is he a subscriber to GIF or jif important? That was reported, and he is a hard gift guy, which I was happy to see as a fellow member of that tribe. Okay. Okay, so clarifies my allegiances here. So did he apologize in the chat at the time of fam saying you don't know me well enough to be making these jokes? Is that clear? I think he did. Okay. Well, maybe it wasn't like a good apology. He said, if you're I was joking around no hard feelings, sorry, if you took it that way. So if it was sorry if you were offended. To be fair, like you said the GIF on that. Probably he's probably putting as much thought into the phrasing of that apology as like a fantasy football group chat, maybe one. That is probably as far as I would have gone with the apology in that situation. I'm not sure I would have fully prostrated myself and really just a base myself with apologies for the GIF taunting fellow members of a fantasy football league. Because I think a couple of things here. First of all, I think that and I imagine that I'm about to hear more about Tommy Pham in a second here. But based on what I know now, let's react. My primary reaction well, I guess I have a couple. So I do think that it is useful for people just generally to remember that you don't know sometimes you don't know people well enough to joke with them. Even if it's something kind of seemingly trivial like a gift, I imagine that even if Tommy fam knew dark Peterson well and knew that he was like, hey, you're actually you guys are actually a super talented team, but you're just playing badly. It would be like, that doesn't make me feel better, man. We were supposed to make the postseason and now we're dealing with this nonsense. So I think that it's fine to say, hey, you don't know me well enough to joke mostly this reveals to me that Jack Peterson does not understand the power of a truly well cultivated and curated group text because Jack made a rookie mistake here. You have to have, you know, if you're a part of a group project, which is essentially what a fantasy football league is, a very antagonistic, weird group project. But if you're a part of a group project and you are friends with a subset of that group, but not with everyone, you need to have your own group chat with those people. You have to have a separate, you know, I have several group chats with different people and some of them have overlapping memberships, but they are still distinct from one another because they represent different constituencies. And they are, they serve different purposes. I go to different ones with different complaints. Sometimes when I am trying to decide if a tweet is funny, I will workshop the tweet with all of them and then if no one responds, I just have to fly solo, but that's neither here nor there. So you need to have a group chat. Group chats are magical. Group chats save us from other people knowing how annoying we are. Their purpose is for you to have a safe place to make bad jokes, complain about people, complain about the world, and then present to Twitter a more well balanced and hinged person than you might actually be. Right. The funny thing was that Peterson felt that he had to go into great detail to explain what offense he had given, exactly. Because no one else cares about your fantasy football league. And his instincts are right there. But I actually do want to hear people talk about the president, but this is the lone exception. But he felt he had to come out and provide the receipts essentially at great length because initially femme didn't specify what had happened here. So Dylan, I'm going to do some swears. I am going to be quoting some spurs mostly here. Got to leave him in. Yeah, so it's about journalism. Fam initially, he said, I mean, he came out, he said, I slapped jock. So he did own up to it, didn't deny the video evidence. He said he did some shit. I don't condone. So I had to address it. We had too much money on the line. You could look at it like there is a code. You're fucking with my money, and you're going to say some disrespectful shit. There is a code to this. So he didn't specify what the disrespectful shit was. So that could have been anything. I mean, it could have been something that merited, if not a slap, at least some sort of stern response. Right. We are assuming it is the gift, but that is. Well, no, this was before Peter said. Before the gift. So as far as we know, it was just the kids. Okay. When femme first brought it up, we didn't know what it was, so. You know, he did say like it wasn't racist, but he said it was some shit that you don't say. I told him in the text, right when he texted it, I'm not cool enough with you to be talking like this. He should have known right then and there. And that's why Peterson then came back and he was waiting for reporters with his group text exchange and showing them the GIF on his phone, which in a way like the coverage of this is funnier than the incident itself. It's like reporters zooming in on the GIF playing on the phone. And minutes long explanation, and yes, also the stylistic choices that Jack Peterson apparently makes. His wardrobe decisions here, you compared him to a cartoon character to me, he looked uncannily like nest from EarthBound, the Nintendo character he had like the sideways cap, the little tuft of hair sticking out, the backpack straps, his bleached blond locks, he looked like a little kid. I had to invite myself throughout this incident that both of these gentlemen are over 30 years old..

"Superstar recruit, but he's one of those guys who just seems to diligently work through different parts of his game and it's just gotten better and better and better. Yeah, I told you buster a scout friend of mine watched him very closely a few years ago in Arizona and he watched him during a game and in the on deck circle he had the exact same routine in the on deck circle to get ready for it at bat. Meaning he took X number of swings, he took the exact same number swings in the on deck circle before every at bat, which it's like a great free throw shooter. Once he gets his routine at the line, it's not like the rest is easy, but it makes you feel a whole lot better at release that you have prepared for your shot. He is so prepared for every at bat. And man, that's Sunday Night game that we did. He hit a ball from Carlos rodon that was down and in first pitch and just crushed it. Everything he's swung at this month, he has crushed. So I always like to look at the standings. I don't know about you, but I always look for that team that's sort of surprising and coming up from nowhere. And last year, that team without a doubt was a scene that was cardinals. Like I wrote them off earlier in the year and all of a sudden at the end of the year, they went day after day after day, you know, they make the playoffs with that tremendous surge. And a team that I noticed in recent days has been making a push, the Texas Rangers. Tim, I gotta admit, like we got to the end of April and we know how the ranges have struggled in recent years. We got to the end of April. They were 7 and 14 on April 30th, and I was like, okay, well, just another lost year for Texas. And I look up today, they're within a game of 500. They've gone 16 and ten in the month of May so far. Martin Perez, 1.60 ERA Corey Seager, up to ten homers, Cole Calhoun's having a nice season, Joe Barlow's having an IC's now their bullpen. What do you make of the rangers? Well, I don't think they're making the playoffs, but they're better than I thought they would be. And they are where they are with Marcus Simeon, just the other day, hit his first home run of the season. It was a Grand Slam. Keep in mind he had 45 homers a couple of years ago, and this year he finally got to his first, meaning you know he's gonna play a whole lot better and hit a whole lot more. Don't forget buster how poor of an offensive team they were last year and how much better they are. I still don't think they're gonna pitch enough to win a division or make the playoffs, but look, Chris Jones in charge of that team buster with John Daniels and Chris young knows what he's doing and I'm really impressed with what they did in the off season. I think they're clearly going forward. I just don't think they're ready to win a division or make the playoffs this year. All right, last Friday before the whole Tommy fam and Jack Peterson thing really blew up as the big story out of Cincinnati. The bigger story and Cincinnati gave kappler the manager of the Giants denounced that he will not stand for the national anthem on most days until he feels better about the direction of the country that certainly got a lot of response around baseball. Some of his managerial peers supported him, tell you Russa said I respect foreign personally. I like him and I think he's right, but it's not the flag and it's not the anthem. What did you make of all this? Well, I wasn't surprised that Gabe Kepler was the one that made that stance. As we know, he's a very profound deep thinking person. If you read Tim Kuhn's tremendous story on ESPN dot com, it's just more insight into who Gabe kapler is. And I admire him for saying, look, this isn't good enough what's going on in our country right now. And I think most of us can agree about that. And I just don't know what good it's going to do, but I'm proud of him for trying. Somebody's got to try something and we'll see where it goes. Maybe others will follow. Maybe this will lead to change. Maybe we need a whole lot more than this to lead to real change. Yeah, and here's the thing. And I think you can handle the national anthem in any way that he wants. That's his right is a citizen in this country. And by the way, that's in keeping with what you and I have witnessed with the national anthem for years, right? It's not like in baseball, there's been this uniform response to national anthem. I've watched national anthems in ballpark for 30 plus years. And there's some players and I think you'll agree with me and who don't like to be on the field for the national anthem because they don't like to stand still. So they'll literally go out, do stretch, you know, they're running the foul line stuff and then they'll run off the field so they don't have to stand in place. There are some managers, coaches, players who will make a point of standing for the national anthem and to sing along with the words. They ever different feeling about it. I've stood behind players during the national anthem and they're sort of elbowing each other saying, look how hot the national anthem singer is. Like, it's not like there's a uniform response. In the middle of it, in Baltimore, a fan gel out, oh. As part of that, and that's why I've never quite understood why there's such a big deal made out of the national anthem. And I guess that's just because I've been what I've been watching in ballparks, all these years, there's not a uniform response to him to the national anthem. I agree, but what did you do, buster the other night during your stand up before a Sunday Night game? Tell us what you did. I always stand up. As the sideline reporter, a, you know, generally, I want to stand up for the national anthem, but I also am aware that if I don't stand up that there might be somebody who could take a picture of and tweet it out and I wouldn't want to embarrass my employer as being the one person who stood up. I will tell you that there are times when I was a reporter, a beat writer that when the national anthem began, if my phone rang and it was a source calling me, heck yeah, I ran to the back of the press box and took that phone call out of sight. You know, not bothering other people, not interfering with other people, standing up for the national anthem because I felt like in that moment, that was more important than the national anthem. Would you have taken a call? If it was an important call, I probably would have, but what happened to me, buster, was when I was a sideline reporter on Monday night baseball, I, they said, go, it's your turn. And as soon as I started, the national anthem came on. And I had to do my little 15 second stand up during the national anthem. And I must tell you. That didn't go over well. It wasn't my fault. I couldn't stop talking. Producer in the ear said, keep going. Whereas I wanted to stop, but you can't stop right in the middle, at least they told me not to. I didn't feel very good about that. Yeah, and I've had that as you know this year on baseball tonight, some of the timing has been off a little bit in a couple of instances. And I've been in the middle of a report and I can hear them teeing up the national anthem. And.

"Nice to run double for tommy fam- padres for giants. Nothing were common. Top of the fifth and eric hosmer is up with two outs. This would leave us if it holds one single game behind the giants in the national league west and by the way big series coming up dodgers are at cincinnati giants host. The atlanta braves. Who still are in a divisional race. So big games for the braves. This weekend could turn the whole thing. We got win at cincinnati and atlanta's got beat up on san francisco two losses in a row. Maybe maybe let's hope that maybe they hit the skids. Maybe the maybe they're hot. Streak is over by the way ireland. Not you tweeted out the results of our fantasy football match. Laxatives nice to you. I tweeted out the results. Before i played waller on monday and waller added fifteen points. Yeah you know. Somebody called downey tweets as well. It's only one week. Be a goldfish a goldfish there. You go. Are you up to speed on ted lasso i am. I am where he mentioned the shame walk. I don't know if people know this. The woman who yelled shame and rang the bell when sursee made the naked walk to the red key. Famous actress right. It's the lady who plays the owner on on ted lasso. Oh is it yeah. Hannah waddington the woman who plays i forget what her name is. But ted lassos. Boss is the one who rang the shame bill. Oh i never knew that. Yeah i know that there was a there was i think it was diana rigg. That was in game of thrones. That was really famous shoes in the house when she was younger. Did you see jason's today 'cause next year getting one million dollars an episode for ted lhasa. Well it's the hottest show on tv. It's so good. It's so good all right. So let's talk about this lakers thing. So it's being reported that rich. Paul has indicated that anthony davis is gonna play the five and lebron. James is going to play the four obviously russet to one. The impact of this is huge because every all of the most effective lineups for the lakers. This year over the past few years has had anthony davis at the five and remember we're less. Do you realize we're less than a month away from the first preseason game well in the first preseason games against the nets against in what could be a preview of the nba finals. That's crazy day. I keep telling you about where the lakers dodgers rams all play. Basically at the same time all in a. it starts with dodgers at noon at dodger stadium last game of the regular season against milwaukee. Then twelve thirty lakers nets staples one o'clock rams cardinals at so-fi well on october third. Wow exciting for everything. Yeah that's going to be an absolutely crazy day in l. a. sports and and you know who knows what that will mean for the dodgers. They could be it could be forever. It's terrible that we draw milwaukee in the last series of the year. That is really bad. Luck very good. Yeah but they may be. You know who knows what teams may be locked in. They may already be locked in. You're right and then they won't throw brandon would refer corbin burns or any other aces at us because they're lining up their rotation for the postseason. I think we're gonna see first of all. I think we're gonna get dodgers giants in the first round of the playoffs no matter what happens. Not in the wildcard game. No not in the wildcard game but in the first round. So dodgers win the wild card game. Play giants in the First round of the playoffs and lds or giants when the playoff game dodgers giants first round and lds. Were for the first time. Ever going to have a matchup between the dodgers and the giants and the postseason ever happened before would be just an absolute throwdown for history. And if you're joining us four. Nothing padres. Bottom of the fifth in san francisco. So there there. I think can hang on. It's one game giants over the dodgers by one. Game ricardo balanced. Walea tweeted me or actually emailed. You can always email the show. Venice mesa gmail.com Some comments from dave flemming. I think it's dave flemming who's the castors for the giants as really good. He says we're pin to the rule. Change about the sticky substances that changed the dodgers team. They're still good. Still really good walker. Bueller can no longer throw a fastball. One after another by the giants. Julio can no longer blow the giants away with pure stuff. It changed those guys. It did that to me changed the season. The dodgers have been impacted by that more than anybody which i view as total and complete garbage. The dodgers pitching staff has had a two point six six era since the crackdown on june. The twenty first. That is the best in major league baseball and better than the three point. Two two they had earned run. Average has actually improved since the crackdown on the sticky substances. This is a reach by like dave but this is a reach for day fleming. Well in the article came out at the beginning of the season in sports illustrated. They said that the team that was doing the most of the sticky sticky substance a source said was and it wasn't even close was the dodgers and so i think davis probably piggybacking off that but it's interesting that the people that he mentioned because the people that he mentioned are all in the cy young race yes since the crackdown. Bueller is seven and three. With two twenty-seven era is eight and one with a two point three eight era. Those are two guys he mentioned specifically and they have been better since the crackdown than they were. Before the the the dodgers pitching staff the reason it's so good is those three guys sherzer bueller eureka's if you wanna pick on the other guys go ahead but if you draw one of those three guys chances are you're losing can you believe we're in a world where clayton kershaw might be the game four starter or he might be the game one starter depending on how the we depending on how we go down to the wire you're right. If if it goes down to the wire we're not going to be able to set a rotation which would be really difficult to To set up the playoff or to or to set up a one game playoff like we may not have the luxury of throwing scherzer. A one game playoff. Yeah hey let me. Go back to the lakers thing. I ask please. Because i think.

"Yeah i think that's right. Yeah no no later than that. I would think yeah I mean it also depends to like what he finishes in terms of. I guess he. He's only been playing shortstop recently. Yeah so by the way. I was and he has eight games at third man. You'd have to get in there and the rest of the year to get to the twenty. So let's you had lower gate to entry in gets ten. That's possible for for franco. But it's at eight right now. By the way. I wanna point out. I meant no steals in the hot run. He has to on the years two for three. So there is some but we haven't seen a ton yet. But i think people have to be very. He doesn't in a since june. He's not focused on on base at ton he's worrying about just getting on base stain amazing then scoring. He's been he's been awesome. No it's been really really huge and fun to watch. And i'm excited to see him on the october stages well most wanted to bring them up to give gifts and profit also see kind of where he thought he'd go and i think if he puts up like five homers and three steals wrestle like just continues to go off. I think we start seeing second round. I think there will be people. Taking him in. The second agree is adp. Will i think be in the third but that means that people on the front end. We'll be taking him in the second filter that's wonder franca. Let's go on the opposite end of the spectrum and talk ice cold lawyers looking over the last month. I got a group of players. Here that They're not they're not doing it and they're rostered in tons of leagues so the fact that they've been this bad is painful. We're going to start with manny machado. Who has to thirty one to seventy three. Seventy one line does have three homers in that time but It's it's rough and then you'll get the full season line. The upset about it twenty three and ten when they one twenty-one wrc plastic. that's that's good that continues to be good with machado. But do you have any concerns about the the week. Play here down the stretch or is he still just descended. Forget and you got to eat. You gotta eat the roughness right now. Because he can have it three homer day on a diamond and get back on track. Yeah i mean. I think this is one of the few ones on here where i'm not particularly worried about it. that i'm that. Yes i know. It's been rough for like the last month but the key could he could finish september with like ten home runs and we wouldn't yeah and is input. Tim any guys on here award. Just gonna say you gotta keep starting because that that's not really help finding get a lot more guys that are. I have to make a decision but it was started with machado just to calm anybody down. That's like oh he's he's really is fumbling the ball down here as we get to the finish line probably been tough for those and head to head. That haven't really got much as they're fighting for a playoff spot that can be frustrating but overall he's been a big part of the success of teams and he was just on fire in july and basically just came all the way back to earth you know. The regression came quickly. Yeah no heaven. Eighty four zero. Ps with eight homers and a three fifty seven badminton. July comes down six thirty three with two seventy two mab. Three homers in august and of course has one game in september. So don't panic machado's fine. We don't need to spend too much time on him. Let's get to the next guy. His teammate tommy fam- who is far from his sturdy as machado in terms of what. You're doing out there no years thirteen thirteen on the year. I think he becomes a tougher one because that production is there with the power speed. But you're looking and you're saying this is now two months in a row because he was awful in july as well. Six fifty five. He's at five fifty seven in the last month with two homers in august so two homers each of the last two months and only one combined steel with three caught in july is found someone to cut. If you're not. I mean definitely reserving him i think is he on the chopping block for you. I think yes to be at this point Which is unfortunate. Because i mean i love tommy fan By i mean to home runs since being august zero stolen base zero temps yet. Ninety nine even. Yeah we're not when he's not even trying and one of the reasons you've got him first stolen bases he could be nursing and he kinda often has bouts of injuries that That can cause issues like this where he stops running for a while and he goes in waves. So it's been really. It's been really tough for him and he's not playing very much either. That's another big thing. That i think makes them kind of an easy. I think you can actually start cutting him. Deeper themes like fifteen teamers. Maybe that's not even crazy man. I'm saying that like it's like it's a thing. Maybe that's like a doughy like of course we're doing that but if you're on the fence about it i think you need to got fam not playing. And when he does play is not going. Well what are you hanging on for. It's a name value that you're thinking right now but you gotta go out and get somebody that can play but numbers in. I didn't even realize how little he was actually playing because he has so many pinch hit yet bags. Play the games played. His is a lot larger than the actual plate appearances. That's why like ross resource. You can look at the last six lineups and seeing that. He's only been in two of them so he's probably played all those games. 'cause he's you know a bad off the menu gonna bring in fam- but it's just not there i think he's i think he's in everywhere. Cut i mean. Nfl only we're always putting off to the side there so hard. You can't cut anybody who's breathing. Basically now. i'm frustrated and then only leaks. Yeah exactly exactly so just putting those off to the side for all these guys. I don't think i'm looking at the list. I don't think i'm cutting any of them in el coronel only maybe reserved them. Because what are you going to pick up is the real thing. Yeah mix though fans out. And i think this this to me you tell me if i'm crazy here is always been kind of like an al fam- to me in my head. I guess he hasn't run as much. "We're gonna probably end up cutting off. Some of these names. Were already gone. a bit. long. george springer. He's a guy that You know missed a lot of this season because of injuries but as her for decently who when when he's on the field it just he hasn't been on the field seven home runs a stolen base in In twenty seven games this season. How much does him missing. Time dropping jason a quite bit and we think about part of the issue here we have a couple things in play one we have our guy signing a big contract and and rick and glenn of talk about the the smart system. We've mentioned a few times. Where they they believe in fading guys coming on the first year of a big contract because historically does a workout wellness would be another example To to add as feather in their cap for that theory the other part we have about toronto is is the different ballparks again. We'd like to have a baseline and we know what roger center is but the fact that he got. Put up some of these numbers in dunedin but put some of these numbers in buffalo And l if you wanna get cutie gut put up a game. Sort the numbers in anaheim. I believe he was still in the lineup. There before he got hurt Because that was a home game for him as a makeup game But the the issue of him getting hurt again brings back problems of if you had him in two thousand nineteen where you're like. Oh hey Because he was great. Sixteen seventeen eighteen missed a little at the time but nineteen sometime. Twenty one validates. Those concerns there you know. He was taken bright. Just outside. the top fifty is. Adp was fifty one coming into the year. I could see him being closer to one hundred than fifty and eighty p this coming year draft season only because of the concerns. You had about him coming in the twenty twenty were validated this season with him twice going on the i l. Matt where you out on springer. I don't think i move them at all A has run. I don't think you move them at all. I think that can third round pick. I know here's the thing with outfield. The more the more i look at it is mike trout injure most the year christian yelich hurt and or terrible. Most of the is heating up. Cody bellinger terrible. Most aaron injured lewis robert injured for most of the air osuna injured most of the year. Aaron judge has his own injury problems. Then you get to springer this as far as where. Adp michael conforto was just brutal. Cattle martin injured most of the year. Kevin busy proved to be no no nowhere near worth his draft spa awesomeness as his own injury. Problems victor row. Bliss was terrible. Yoder on alvarez. I don't think anyone is gonna take the injuries as seriously with him. I think he's proven to be healthy. Enough lords burial was was poor. Charlie blackmon downward trajectory stanton was injured. Buxton injured herschel. Just like that's so many of the of the top thirty outfielders where people are gonna move up but even after that you got even more injury prone guys like tommy. Fam- will myers dom smith was was not particularly great this year. Where i think. I would like to move him back except i think there's so many other people that are moving are moving back or have their own injury problems where i do think that he will be taken where he is. But i think once people evaluate where outfield is. That's maybe where elite l. filters will be taken even earlier but i think that he will kind of remain near the top. Just because i there's it's not like there's these really safe options to grab right behind him and he's still really elite when healthy so Yeah not to sound like a like a crazy person here. But i think that doesn't move as far back once i do my official rankings. Just because there's not too many people to move up. Does this mean like people will be like. I think this might like setup for like a really huge dropoff in the outfield position. Like maybe he doesn't drop so far down. The outfield ranks but he drops farther down in the overall. Yeah i could see that. I am speaking more of last year. He was taken is like the fifteenth outfielder. I'm not sure he drifts any farther than the twentieth That's kind of where i'm getting it. I think yeah the outfield. I think we'll be being drafted a little bit later. Whereas the in they'll be people definitely probably be pushing pitching up like usual So yeah that's i mean that's my take so far i i will have to dig into more of it will sell. He finishes the season two. There's a little bit more time but it's when you ask the question. I was trying to look where i move him back. And i just i had trouble finding people i would wanna move in front of them. I think that is a huge brabin. One i didn't actually when i was when i was actually racking my brain year. I'm can't when you really look at the list. It's it's hard to pull these names that you're like i definitely while i'm in front of springer there's not many yeah that that that becomes a huge problem Yeah i think. I'm probably keeping him right around where he was too But i said that you both gasp. Like i was crazy. Ya but no. You're right. I mean you look at just the outfield kind of the way it shaped up this year and it's by the fact that he's missed a ton of sixteen home runs in forty nine games like when he's been on the field he's been really really good and i wanna say prior to getting hurt. This time in this injury is supposed to be short term. Like in in the second half he in just twenty nine games. He has a little. Evan home runs and he's hitting three. Eighteen been phenomenal Earlier in the year before he went down with the second quarter hamstring. He actually didn't he still like a couple of basis with just one. I think he might think he hit a home run. He may hit a home. Run one or two home runs. And still but yeah. He just When he's healthy These beasts and he kicks though. That's the thing to me. This team is so disappointing to me because this should be so much better than it is living you. Look at him in there and Justin tweeted that in the group text. The other day mentioned like they're inexperienced youth shows in some of these games like they lose games. They have no business losing and losing the teams. They have no business losing and here they are. We're supposed to think of them like. Oh hey there a contender. But they're not they've lost. They've just given away too many games and at this point it's like all right. Play it for next year you can next year because they would need an absolute miracle to to contend this year but when you look through and see where numbers of come through like i mentioned with the with springer he hit. He's hit as many home runs at salem field as he has at rogers centre but rogers centre. He's four zero nine. Four forty nine nine thirty two. Es twelve extra-base hits at forty four at bats. Since got go in there so like to your point That he's been putting up some major damage even at salem feelings absolutely crushing it But he barely played it in. Dunedin kneeling ad eighteen plate appearances in dunedin but he put up some some massive numbers and rogers centers of you wanna extrapolate those like all right. Let's go these absolutely slugged. Nine thirty two at home next year over full season. absolutely right. yeah. I mean i just insert a gif of of charlie brown missing. The football is not. That's what this is gonna be George springer was my first true love when kit when i started when i started out as a fantasy analysts He was iraqi And i'm just gonna continue to fall for it year after year. So leads We're gonna finish out with This next guy in them will. We're going to cut off the last four. Maybe author on the the rundown for next week. The next i is christian yelich In he was mentioned before by matt Because he has been injured..

"And now it's it's it's at least interesting in a way that it wasn't a couple weeks ago so i think that the parties are probably still a better squad than than a couple of teams that are behind them from a wildcard perspective. But it's it's tighter than it was so that's something. The rich have a bunch of guys. Joey votto jonathan india. Kyle farmer jesse winker like none of these guys made out for the past month or so so that helps and they made some bullpen moves. That have may be helped a bit too and like it's still too spangles my mind every time i look and see that wade miley has two point seven five year. A yeah hundred. Twenty one innings. What is what is that all about man. What is what are we. What are we doing. It is twenty twenty one highly. Is you know you you said that. Bryce harper is not the young hotness anymore. I don't know what wade miley is. Not not to come in either. So so you mentioned that there for to you said it. Sounds like he is coming back and is not going to have to have season ending surgery after all currently have some surgery after the season but it looks like he is going to keep giving this shot and in order to try to keep him healthy and not reinjured the shoulder when he is preparing to play. Outfield pranked play center. And maybe some right which is interesting. It had a unorthodox. I suppose i mean we've certainly seen a lot of stars especially in this era who can play multiple positions but to do a midseason swap of someone who really was pretty entrenched at one position. They hope it'll be less wear and tear and fewer throws i guess know dives and collisions and all of that and you know he's been somewhat at shortstop as well. I think he has the physical skills to play that position. Be good at it but he has not always been pinned the most on target with his throws or even with some routine plays so it might not be the worst idea like potentially even long term. I guess i don't know if you have trent christian out there so he in tattoos can kind of take turns and then you have tommy. Fam- you have will myers. I mean we've talked about. Just how many position players they have. Who can play over the place with frazier. N- cronin worth than kim and on and on. So they're like multiple levels of redundancy there but even after the season 'cause famines the free agent who knows navy totti's could just like if he takes to center maybe he's just a sh- center fielder. And maybe you have. I don't know groaning worth plays shorter. Cj abrams is coming along so there what options there i was just about to say you know we. We've talked a lot of how the you know. The padres have traded away from their farm system consolidating. The guys there to bring in players who are in the major shoe they hope will help them now. A couple of the guys who they have been very adamant about staying away from our our middle infielders. So it's not as if they don't have prospects you might be able to cycle through there in the slightly longer term. And then he get you. You got guys who can fill the void right now. I like it as a as a way of both protecting him and sort of dealing with a potential weakness of his that he has at times been able to corral right like we saw him be plus it short last year. Obviously it was a shorter season. And what have you. But it isn't as if he hasn't demonstrated the ability to get the air stuffed under control in league we can talk about ariza's imperfect proxy but like when you have as many of them said he says it's like it's a problem like you don't wanna 'cause you watch those you're like. Yeah that was their. What's that wasn't the best fernando. So i think that it has the potential to be both sort of savvy in the short term in potentially beneficial to them and to him in the long term. I don't think that he's like unplayable short by any means but it might end up being kind of elegant solution to both short and long term problem. You know depending on how goes so knows reading. Robert murray reported that the padres were also interested in obtaining trae turner at the trade deadline which makes the dodgers winning the sherzer turner sweepstakes all the more important like at the time it seemed. Lectures is going to go somewhere in west vet turner moving to that division. Two was sort of a surprise and see how it was like. Wow the dodgers got shirts or they blocked the padres and maybe also the giants in their pursuits of sherzer but turner. It didn't seem like he would necessarily be on the table. If you're talking to san diego and tattoos had not suffered his latest aggravation right that point. And so i guess they could have stuck turner in the outfield. Maybe that was what they were planning to do. But if that had come to fruition then that would have been in even bigger deals because if you had gotten turner at the same time that tattoos hurt himself and you considered moving him to another position than that would have been big too so even more important that the dodgers were the ones who wound up winning that were yeah. It would have been like think about but her happy. Jay turns out there anyway. Sometimes you gotta you gotta come up with new plans. So you have to come up with new plants Their nuclear we've covered the suddenly pretty interesting playoff race. I'm glad that there's still some intriguing. Uncertainty left here. 'cause didn't seem like there would be for awhile and now like really mean. The white sox are a total lock to win the al central but beyond that. Like i think the raise should feel pretty confident about winning the alienist the astros. I'd feel pretty confident about that. Like their division obser- eighty four percent right now but it's a two-game cushioned so you can't feel very secure and then the east is just a total free for all. And the brewers. I think should feel pretty good about their position in the central to. But then you've got the datsun. The giants jockeying for position. They're they're still like you know. Most of the playoff spots are sort of assigned to someone or other or like. They're only a couple of spots. I guess that are totally in play but almost everywhere. They're still some uncertainty about like you know. Will you win the division or will you will awhile cart and that's All you can ask. I suppose that stage of the season you know. I was worried that it would be also up and it is not. Yeah we have a more variability. And i know that it is probably just like wreaking havoc on the nerves of several fan bases but we thank you for your service because it's making it a lot more fun for all right you plan in a wet to the field of dreams games. That's something you're excited about at all. I mean like. I'm excited about it. Because of the teams that are playing right. What sexy it has fillets. i mean. it's a pretty gimmicky. Gimmick as gimmicks go. I know that one's opinion of a field of dreams can cause rancor hateful emails we got hatefully knows about that but i know that people feel people feel very passionately about field of dreams often in one direction or the other and it is not a baseball movie that i feel compelled to revisit with any regularity and so i think by virtue of that the premise of the bit..

Almost a moose. It's actually feeling if you wanted to dump me girls you do. It's easy by the way. Accept it pretty quickly but like hasselhoff kid recorded him. Yes right record sleeping. This is how would have to be like okay. Gross totally i mean jonah. Leave himself he relieve himself on this planet. Anybody legitimately i can't. I cannot believe you must be an incredible lover. When you're awake must be great otherwise because when you were asleep it's absolutely not it could be true fucking love. It could be absolutely perfect. And i would be like it breaks my heart but we have to bring. This isn't going to. I guess you would have to be those couple of sleep in different rooms knowing apart but you have to get out. You'll hear me and we we neighbors must hear you absolutely. Yeah absolutely i. it's disgusting. Have you ever a hard yourself idea was dumping this. Does what you sound like at night. We got a voicemail. You want playboy smell or sheds recap it voicemail. The show last last week. This dude made a bet with his body. And can you look this up again. His latest to sixty four is all your tommy phantom of the diego padres. if tommy fam- bats three hundred this season this guy has to suck his friends and he was batting at. That point was batting like two thirty years. Something and at the moment is batting. Seventy no way career six. That is this year. Wait is it. Yeah so right now is about two seventy one too. He's a career to seventy-three hitter. You can't fuck in a sucking dick for the first time on agree to seventy three hundred having a pretty solid sees. I mean well three hundred would be at. I mean that's a that's a big. It's a big but he's not going through all right. So i think at the time he was badly thirty or something. He started off really slow and has been like thirty forty points. Later is now about in to seventy one. And so i mean the tommy. Fam- wash to me is the most sports we want this. I want to film this dude. His friends they like. I want to be present for. I said if we can somehow by the grace of god go into game one sixty two batting to ninety nine point nine nine nine and all you need is like a base and we electric chair these guys. "Think go top twenty. But i like must grove outfielder. I mean i don't know. I mean i never say well. Maybe you can get this outfit or that outperform because all dependent on what somebody else wants to do. Maybe you can get brian reynolds for. Maybe you can enjoy gala form. I don't know what the other manager lee would or would not do. I won't be pushing at least for brian reynolds for forum. Right and brian reynolds right now. The number ten outfielder for the season. But we don't rank them that way. We probably wearing top thirty so that might be fair. Maybe jared walsh's fair. Your home runs not much else if you want to start and so i got him in an ill only league and i'm trying to move him and i'm not getting a lot of takers a mixed league though. I might shoot as high as gone for t- oscar hernandez and you mentioned reynolds as well. I like the walls price point. Maybe alex for dogo could be in that. Same general ballpark. That tier of nana lead feelers. But right beneath. I love this as like fifty players in the all star game in. Jared wall has to make a diving catch in left field position. He's literally never played before. Jared watts has never played feel anywhere and he played left field in the all star game because they have so many players and they still can't get it right and how they maneuver them all around anyway next except this burner. He's got an ob he wants to know if you prefer fam- or mullins the rest of the way can't believe that's even a question of eight. Cedric has been so good and when you look at his numbers. There's nothing wrong with them. It's all legit right. I mean even the pack sixteen home ruins of sixteen stolen bases. He's he's taken walks. He's not being overpowered. And he's he's a lefty who is doing great against lefties three hundred against lefties some pop so it all looks legit to me so gimme cedric marlins. I know that's that's i. We witnessed that three months ago. But how many damn. He plays a lot but he's had durability issues. In the past and padres have lots of centric. Moans is gonna lead off every day for the rest of the season for his team. Tommy fam- plays what an eighty percent of the time because he misses. He's been playing almost every day for a couple of months though. If we're gonna talk about otani durability we have to mention fam- yes glamour game. That's the thing it's not a. I'm not sure how to characterize it with fam. It's not only the injury but it's also a level of inconsistency that i can't explain. He is kind of jackie bradley. Jr. in its boston red sox as he be awesome for chunks of time and then just completely useless for fantasy and i think that's what Shifts this for me. Laws fan is very good on base percentage leagues. But i'm with you moen's has to be a top fifty player and dress for twenty twenty two doesn't he could end up with an end up for twenty five homers twenty five steals a five category monster top fifty for twenty twenty two with. I know you're thinking eric. It's a little bit fast. Cedric mullins is the number to outfielder for the season behind. Only a koonya. Kunis gone so like i'll take a kuni over moments in an absolute second even with the you you wrote this year but next year. Yes yeah. But i'm saying why are we going to rank said moen's like if you rank kyle tucker number thirty next year. Why wouldn't you moans number thirty. See what i'm getting at here. Like a very good prospect. You took a little bit longer. I mean if we're going to rank ranier roseline number fifty. Why wouldn't we mullins ahead of that. Moses doing better he runs because because when it comes to a year transitioning into the next you may have to make corrections on some of the fluky outcomes and one of them is his home runs are largely fluky has homer. Fly ball rate is way a character for his entire professional career. It's the only thing that i don't like about mullins year. So i'm gonna project next year. That moans steals thirty bases and best to eighty but his fifteen home runs even though he's got sixteen at this year's all-star break. I'll take the under on the homers. But i like your sixteen home runs right now and you don't even think he's going to sixteen all year. But you didn't hear what i said but i'll take the under. I don't feel completely committed today about a rather see of the goes. But i won't be surprised to see thirteen fourteen. I think i'm all in aesthetic moans. Being left handed starting march next year. We're in iraq martin number thirty why are we ranking civic mall. And that's that's key. And by the way i actually think he has a better approach. Martin that feels the points leagues. I like that show with no name. Game for kris bryant. The rest of the way. God i don't give you that guy to you know don't he's the number six third baseman on the player writer for the season. He's having a good season and but he's kind of being like cold under and cubs morass. Will i mean like right. I mean he has a hit lately. They've been losing a lot. He's he's a good player. You might be overrated for fantasy purposes. Though i really going to trade him. I view brian. Now i will be shocked to seventy guy who has twenty five home runs. Knox in ninety every year doesn't run good player very versatile and you were capable of better as well and if he lands in a good situation the upside is that's the custody janos midseason trade finish the downside is. He's maybe barely a top fifteen third baseman. I mean i think you'd have to look at our rankings for where we rank brian as a good name like we could play a name game but in this situation right i mean like i don't wanna get too cute with it either. I mean we both rank. Brian seventy five. I'm pretty sure. I rank them a little bit better than that. But like like you rank him. A brand lau bregman cory seager so obviously you would take those guys over him. So i don't know how we would play a name. Your unless actively changed but your bryant right next to mitch haniger. Okay it makes sense to me. Our guys trade candidates craig candidates. That's about it still basis. They're fine. Yeah and there's probably more safety in the injury department. I think even accounting for brian's history than there is for haniger. Yeah yeah. I actually have them at third base right ahead of al shelhah and your shell to me seems like the if you want to lock in those stats that you just gave us and be safe about it. You'd rather have her show. But do you wanna take the chance that. Brian has one of those great final two months and carries your fantasy team. It's possible you're right. I hadn't thought about that. This could be a nick. Has the second half for him. Like a cobb. I if he gets traded because you could see bright being motivated by being in a pen race and and play in the heck out of left field for the yankees and the final two months. I could see that look what. He's the braves left fielder. I e could good lineup spot. If he lands are opportunities right now with the kuna out. I wonder why any team would go forward right now. Other than the first place team like why would philadelphia. They'll have any prospects as it is and atlanta's not exactly deep some starting pitching in the minors but the late under five hundred. They're going to really go for it right now. I understand you need outfielders. But why didn't you sign out of meat. Like at least he's a proving. I like. I'm a little surprised that they didn't get him. I just didn't get to him. I.

"Into eighty three four home runs on a stolen base but he has twenty two run scored i will. I'm bat in less than a month will love that. I mean that is so insanely valuable especially with the triple eligibility yet. He should be he should be roster in all formats. I think so. I think the ways playing this month at least right now on this heater antenne team or you know you can ride heaters and then move on. That's something that you can always do. So ride this wave. And then if he happens to fall off then you can get rid of louise serious. But he's been playing great. And i seen it twenty four years old definitely still some upside there. You know who is really surprising. New this year is tommy fam- my man has been out here and i gotta be honest. I kinda left him for dead. I really wasn't considering him seems like he's always dealing with seven nagging injuries but plays through them. And i you know. I don't doubt the production like it's it's been there especially from seventeen to nineteen. He was a consistent. Like twenty. twenty type. You only had fifteen steals in in two thousand eighteen but twenty five and seventeen and nineteen so it averages out to twenty twenty over those three seasons rough year last year only played half of it. You can give a pass. But the reason. I didn't give them a full pass is because of his injury history and the fact that he was thirty three. So that's why i was like. Yeah like sure he. You can give them some some leeway on last year. But how much do you really want to and like. I said i didn't draft him. I wasn't really considering him. And tommy fan is out here. Dominating nine homers twelve steals to sixty four three two six four thirty for his line. forty two runs and twenty-seven rabies fans. Ben awesome So i guess were what was your take on him coming into the air. And how do you stand now. That he's killing by the way. I want to also add at different points this year. He was very comfortable because he was toting in the season. All the way through. May i would say he had on may twenty six. He had one ninety eight average. He joins eighty seventy nine in the first month of season. Yeah so that's what i'm saying like and it didn't get much better until very late. May and then he went on a run here. You can kind of see it. There on may twenty sixty starts a run of four straight multi hit games. And that's been his jump off since then. Fam- has seven homers and seven steals With the three forty eight four forty five six hundred so even in this year like i'll be honest. I was probably patting myself on the back. Mentally looking at his numbers at any point through men may like yeah. I knew not to go for him. Confirmation by deep shit and now you look and he's absolutely dominating and that's why even though i pushed back on things like don't call a slow starter fast. Start after twenty five games. I'm doing it myself. And my head here about tommy fam- but he's been awesome. Did you like them coming into the year. And do you believe in in this. Run that we're seeing i mean i. I've always liked tommy fan. I've always been a big tommy. Fan guy the problem was. I was really worried after he got stabbed in the in the off season and then they they. The padres started adding players left in so that to me was like. Oh maybe he is not okay like they keep saying. Yeah you know. They kept back filling for guys. Who could play me out decide kim. They signed profile profile. Back up like they cronin worth already outfield. So they just had backfield's for day. And i was just like all like why would you keep adding to this team. If he's okay. So i became a i. I kinda just avoided him now. I picked him up in a few leaks in season. You know once. I saw that he was healthy. I picked him up in a few twelve's where he had been dropped In so i mean. I love what i've seen so far in our so far this month. Really i mean. He's been he's been really good in the month of june. Like you said since like may twenty six and then he said i think i mean. There's no reason to think he can't continue. Doing you know similar kind of work hitting two sixty to seventy arrests. The way with you know. Power and speed is long as he's healthy. Health is always been the issue for fan. But i'm telling this yeah as far as skills like. I think it's totally fine to be like. Hey i believe in what we're seeing here. it's just a matter of. Are you going to get the rug. Pulled out from you healthwise. And that's that remains a fear. But i don't think you can live like there's nothing you can really do about that fear like unless you unless you're in a trade league and you wanna maybe trying to sell high. That's about the only thing you can do. But nobody's gonna give you a men for him. And i mean might use his or he is insanely hot right now like his heart. Hit percentage You know via stat cast in this stretch. You're talking about since may is fifty. Six percent is gonna thirteen percent barrel rate amac's exit loss of one eleven crapping on the ball. I mean he's he's eighty six contact percentages. You know just above league average not swing outside zone at all. Twenty percent zone are o. swing You know it just like he's doing everything you want him to do At the play and then stealing basis he gets on base In a six stolen bases in the month of june so like yet. i mean. they're going to be some. Why should sell high on it. Like no one buys high on a guy like tommy fan and roll with it at the thing. they're just not gonna gonna pay a man for him now. I would fly on tommy fan so you buy that. It's not gonna cost. It's not gonna cost what it would for different player. Who is doing this. He's thirty three with a plethora of injury history. No one's gonna ask you to give up the farm on tommy fan. Yeah i think it could be like a one four one depending on what position. They need of a similar type of guy. You know that that's like got some issues. Got some wards maybe playing well and then you see what with with that person so i think it could go out and see see what the price is at least knock on some doors. Because i i do. Think that tommy fam- is gettable and if you're comfortable with the risk because again that that injury risk is ever present. That's the only thing i would. I would just caution anybody that wants to go get him. You're still taking on a big risk. But that should hopefully be built into the price and that way you don't end up paying too much for tommy him Turner goes fifth overall. They did you dirty. They're either get to graham. Or mookie betts. I think it's pretty fair. Let's play air nolan focused because this is now up to four forty four with a one twenty three whip. Strikeouts are still there. Walks are still good. The hell's going on. He's kind of got this every other one pattern right now to where he's getting hit up..

The Rays Bullpen Their Way Past Justin Verlander and the Astros

"Start with what happened last night in the trump the raise in the Astros Justin Verlander Future Hall of Famer on the Mound for short rest effectively for the first time in his entire career and you know what he didn't look right from the get-go to Tommy Fam- drives on the left Centerfield this what is hit well it is just over the wall the right of three seventy eight Tommy van has put the razor head one nothing that of course Fleming on ESPN radio he's working with Imboden who was noticing that ver- lander just didn't look right he kept stacking back off the man he was having trouble with the signs you just never looked comfortable the raise continued to rally in the first two Grou- ball left side past the dive into left field Brantley will feel the joy around third there will be no throw joy comes into score d'arno knocks in run to nothing raise joey window into the plate in the bottom of the first pitch is light into right field asking to be a hit and it's GonNa roll all the way to the wall Garcia around Third Hill score here comes Dr no he gets to go sign the relay throw is there and DR no stops turns around and goes back to third yes so they had a three early and if you looked at Justin verlander space after that first inning it was like he got punched in the Chin the Astros going for legacy going another championship this year and they're down in game for trying to avoid a game five and the top of the fourth inning. The Astros rallied your Don Alvarez bonded the gap and what happened after that was amazing breathes out and throws line tried to the Cap right-center on moved here Myrick can't get it it's Short hops the wall glazed camel to bid at third is being way Dallas for the relay here's the throw domino's got it in a perfect relay as heard on WD troy how `bout that play how perfectly they did from Kevin Kerr Meyer to Willie dommage to Travis Dr no you can't do better than that and you could see in the face of Jose altuve after he was called out like are you kidding me with that throw that is a heck of a play that textbook like you learn that growing up and it cannot be executed better than that love with the rated there yeah on Espn Radio Jim Bowdoin was talking about how this series really has been Williams's coming out party that continued in the bottom of the fourth pitch for lander to the plate on Thomas drives one deep at center field that star is getting bigger and brighter it is going on that walk it was a monster home run four nothing lead for the raise and look the story in that game was about Justin verlander future hall of Famer not pitching that l. but the race pitching was outstanding they started with an opener Diego Castio and is the game went along and Kevin cash kept calling on relievers in the when he went to a starter Blake Snell to close out the game is one to pitch is a fastball hit right back up the middle and that's exactly where Wendell is playing he's got it on a backhand he throws the first for the owls and that ends the game we are going to get a game five in Houston
