"Crazy geeky numbers, some Pittsburgh steelers talk and just hopefully some. Maybe some stuff to help put some things into perspective. Before I get rolling. Blau, what a shoutout to Jerry Jerry band. If you're listening to our audio platform, which obviously you are you're listening to this. You just heard Jerry ban open up the show you hear it on a lot of our morning shows. You hear it on Stat Geek you hear it on Jefferson's let's ride. You hear it on the live Mike although I'm a little bit jealous the live Mike Right now because now he's even got. A Nice clip courtesy of coach Tomlin and his post game press conference for week two. But now is used for the live Mike. If you don't know what I'm talking about, all you gotTa do is make sure you check out episode as well, and of course, you also get some Jerry Cherry band with our with our two blokes from down under with the steelers touchdown under on the Saturday show. So I might have missed one another maybe we use some music for but Jerry Jerry Ban thank you so much. Check it out do a search on youtube and you can find find more stuff there. Another thing I wanted to come at. With at you all with is an update because I do this on this go bro show and I also try to make sure that I do it here as well. You're listening to this podcast. It should be Thursday the Thursday night game should you know maybe you're listening to it on? Friday. Maybe a little bit behind even Saturday bottom line hopefully you hurrying this before Sunday at one o'clock because if you're still in the steelers. Not, the steelers to be TSE. Survivor ple get in there and make your pick make your pick out what was so disheartening this past week, only seven people were eliminated by picking the wrong team but twenty nine people are limited because they didn't make their pick in time. So don't be one of those Michio win. It's a sign markey's pouncey football that you're fighting for. If you don't know what I'm talking about I'm sorry you're a little bit late to the game. You didn't get entered in the contest, but we're we've got over half the people on in two weeks. So if you're not sure what talk about there's an article in Bon still curtain dot com that lays lays out all the. All of the results from this past week to bring that altogether. But right now, first thing I got to talk about is I do like to highlight some numbers from the previous week although this is Thursday and you know were it's on, it's on to Houston onto the Texans. It's time to get ready for that next game you can't dwell on the victory to long. But sometimes, you just got to do it a little bit. You GotTa do it a little bit. You GotTa look at some of the numbers. Some of the things that you like had some good numbers from this past week and we're actually going to dwell on the steelers number so far this year I know Jeff Hartmann hit on some things. With these, but I gonNA, take some of these numbers and we'll take a little bit next level from what Jeff did on. Let's ride yesterday and we're going to look at what it means for the steelers going forward. So a couple of things that I liked as I mentioned this on the scarborough show, you gotTa love at the steelers had one hundred, hundred yard rusher and a three hundred yard passer in the same game. Granted most of those hundred yards were on one run but hey, you take him how you can take them, and that one that one run was at a very key moment for the steelers. So really like that. Really like how the steelers are the only. Team in the NFL that has a one hundred yard rusher in each of their first two games. Nobody else can say that but the thing is there's nobody in the NFL. No. Running back in the NFL that has two one, hundred yard rushing games, not zero because the steelers are the only team that has it and it was two different guys benny smell junior in week. One James Connor in week to. Hopefully, this means that both backs could be serviceable I know Benny Snow had had a rough game especially. Given up that fumble at a very costly time and the reason I say it's very costly. Wasn't that Oh it was a key moment where it made the steelers the game, but they could have put the nail in the coffin at that point right there. had. Great Field position you know just getting another score right? There would have been huge and. Instead the ball. Ball ends up on the grass. This time Juju wasn't there to bail him out. So that's something that that. Benesch now football's gotTa work on moving forward. So gotTa love some of the performances so far you know we'll talk a little bit about Chase Klay Pool here with some of these numbers we're going to get into. The to both streaks continued the good and the bad the bad streak of the twenty five turnovers. Sir Twenty. Five straight games with at least one turnover that continued. But fifty nine games now with the steelers registered br sorry fifty nine regular season games now in a row where the steelers have registered at least one sack. That's by far the most in the NFL I. Think the next closest is the cowboys day I'm not sure if they were at nineteen before their last game or they hit nineteen, it's either nineteen or twenty. Were it's worth something like that but. What I WANNA do with some of these numbers I don't want to just look at the numbers. The steelers just had let's look at what they've done so far. This very young season. I know sometimes it's like. These numbers really tell us much are they saying a whole lot? Well. Let's put them in perspective to see how they would look. Over the course of an entire season if the numbers that the steelers put up so far in two games, we're GONNA look at offense, go at defense and see how they would look going forward. Now I just realized there was one other thing from the last game I did not hit on and I don't WanNa talk about it projecting for because that Kinda WanNa be be done with it but one of the one of the downers from the steelers so far this year and the reason I waited till now is because it's happened in both games. Not. Only is the steelers not put up any points on their opening drive of the game, which is something I talked about. At length lassie's when they only had six total points scored on opening drives last year. One of which was handed to him because they got the ball and field position didn't even get a first down and kicked fill the other time was they did have a drive in pretty sure that was against the cardinals was the other one where they were. They had a field goal to open the season. But not only the not score any points drives they haven't even got I down. No I down opening drives into games for the steelers and that's a little bit concerning. There's only three teams in the NFL three teams in the NFL. That have do not have a first down yet on their opening drive. Of each game. The Pittsburgh steelers, The Washington football team and the steelers opponent than week three, the Houston Texans, they do not have a first down yet. On their opening drive. So that's quite interesting to look at it right there. So here come the steelers they are to know. To, and now what I want to look at is. If, we take these numbers that the steelers have now put up one game isn't a big enough sample size two games. I'll be honest with you probably not a big enough sample size, but it gives you a little bit more to look at a little. It's double the sample size we had after week one obviously..

"Damn that's a tough question I. Loved I just. You can't. You can't bet against Ross right now he's. He's on fire. He really has been and what to his credit he's done it. Without like the splashy receiver core till probably right now right like when Tyler Lockett was their number one. They still had Baldwin and all that kind of stuff but it's never been like Julio Jones or they didn't have these guys that are just household names at jump off the page. You know he's never had a receiver that was like number one in your fantasy. and. All these other guys do and so for him to be doing that and the other thing too is. On heimer was there with me at the jets of for four years and actually the first three and after going through what he went through there I think he learned a ton I think where he's at now understanding the kind of quarterback he has because they're running I'm sure it's a lot of the same verbiage, but it's a very different offense. So credit to him for Taylor that. Offense to that team to those specific players, right because a lot of guys like old school like, Hey, this is the offense you fit in or get out, and that's not really it. The offense has to be malleable right? You got to be a transition to something that you're better at based on the players you have. So I think where they're at and I said this last year but. The play that goes into Russell's helmet to me. That's like it's like an essay prompt right? It's just a starting point zero and if it ain't there Russ, you go right me three beautiful paragraphs and do whatever the hell. Because whatever you do is awesome. So if it works out and Decay Matt your I read boom and you want launched one up to the moon into orbit and it drops down right in his lap. Great. But if that was an open if decay fell down I'm sure he would have made a play and threw it to somebody else either Tyler Lockett or somebody else who fell and got a first down. So whatever you WanNa do Russ if you WANNA take off and run and slide and not get hint and never get concussions. Hurt. Go for it or if you want to check out of this, I don't really give a shit but here's starting plant. So that's Kinda. Like credit to shoddy for understanding who he has at quarterback and credit to coach. Carroll forgetting somebody likes shoddy to be able to do that. So they got going on man it's there'd be tough to beat. JP personnel. Are We. Let's talk a skuas football. Okay. Correct Code speak I love it. Was Football. Take visiting the STEELERS GONNA go. The steelers are three and a half point favorites. The Texans have potentially the hardest schedule three maybe of any NFL team in history at Kansas, city versus Baltimore and home, and now traveling to Pittsburgh they could be a really good team but there to. Absolutely murderers. Row Schedules Willy will start with you this time who do we like this week David Decastro looking like he will play Sunday steelers and I think you talking about Houston in listen I I like Houston have been. I'm having a heart and it listen coach Mike Devlin is their office coach I know very well, he's my office along. That was that was an amazing. The one hiccup with this team is their office align they struggling you talk about blitz. Happy Pittsburgh team gets after your asked and they get after your ass even worse at home when they're comfortable is going to be a long day for Shawn Watson and I think if they turn on tape watching Denver. The key to that game has you better come run gang because if not an invalid David Johnson who I think is reassured and he looks good looks great actually. They're going to have to lean on him because the Shawn Watson won't have a Lotta time to pocket they're going to get after his ass. They're going to hit him early and they hit them hard. They WANNA. Throw turnover so. I I think right now for the I think Pittsburgh. One thing I haven't haven't played at Pittsburgh and played against Pittsburgh. They they're very self motivated team. Say Marketing tested like there's outside motivation where everybody wants you to win your family's behind you in the city's behind everything's going well but it's different when you close his doors in your locker room and to. Talk. About the Broncos when all the heads is like listen, this is the we stack wins now because later in the month, it gets hard because guys get injured things happen. So the teams you're supposed to be, you don't take for granted. You beat those fucking teams in your march on I. Know That's how they're talking and Pittsbur- because listen business plan out his fucking looks great. He's thirty fucking thirty eight years old. He looks like he could play another year he stays healthy. What they're saying to themselves in Pittsburgh is right now this defense is right now super bowl winning defense. We have to maximize this time because we're going to be here again. So they're they're talking to locker room for sure. Teams were supposed to be handled motherfucker business. So that's why we see them come out hot. They come out aggressive and you have the young kid play pool rundown field looking like he's been elite for five years is because the urgency the self-motivation is coming from the media or anybody else they're telling themselves we're GONNA AFC North. We got two teams one team right now that. We can't look past. That's Baltimore Ravens we gotta see their twice. They haven't played yet and arrested zero Pittsburgh season is up. Now they got some quality games later down the road. So teams got knuckle up with Michael do show watching like Houston. Texas. I'm going to Pittsburgh. They gotta Wax that ass early and they got to get rid of them if they if they stumble. This is this is a sign that like all right now you're gonNa have have a situation where now might man was going All. The rhetoric they don't like hearing redder they know. What Mark said when Dallas is winner what is on? DALLAS? Losing. Fuck Em. All right. His doesn't deal with daylight. Listen we're to take ever flow. We, like being on the winning side of day. So we don't have to answer the bullshit. No doubt credits at Tomlin to coach Tomlin's. Kept that thing steady right like they're just the. The such, a such, a great example of a of a franchise that can handle the routine stuff right and then when it comes time to make a really big play like the roll, the dice on it like, yeah we're supposed to sure we need four thirteen to pull out of our ass. Okay like we'll take our best shot at it but at least we're GonNa get to that position right at least we're going to get in the tournament the playoffs right like they position themselves well, and it's because they handle games like this early in the season. Well, right There just way more physical than Houston I mean I just feel bad for Shawn Watson because to go against. Pittsburgh broke. Blitzburgh all they WANNA do is pressure. You confuse you and beat your ass at the same time like physically dominate you. So you're bruised and battered and you're walking out of the stadium with your tail between you..

"To the week three game between the Pittsburgh steelers in the Houston Texans at Heinz years a one pm kick-off. That's right. Folks the Wahdat Bowl the watt family reunion whatever you WANNA call A. Jj Watt to Shawn Watson the Owen to Houston Texans are traveling they're trying to get in. The winning column for the first time this year and the steelers are trying to avoid getting into the losing column for the first time. This year, it'll be interesting and Wednesday is always the very first day that practices are reported, and therefore you get to know who's in who's out, what might be a serious injury of concern and what might be just another pseudo day off for specific players before we get to this, I have to say. Not, sure what's going on in Pittsburgh? I was in the middle of doing this injury report podcast already I was in the midst of it in the middle of it, they had released injury report. Had all the players that were on it and a lot of them were expected and somewhere surprising meaning. They had David Decastro as not participating in practice the what was wasn't that odd he hasn't played all season. What was odd was that David Decastro that was Juju Smith Schuster went on Zoom after practice today he told the media that Decastro was out there that he's back and then there was video of Bro from Brooke Prior of Espn Dot Com who put in the individual workouts showed Decastro at practice. Now, in case you didn't know how this works. Let me explain it The media practice or not allowed to report anything that happens outside of individual drills. So they ben Rothlisberger throws a beautiful pass to Air Jebron in the back corner of the endzone in a wide receiver drill. They can report that boy great gas by Gay Great Throw Great Catch Bacon out report who was practicing and who isn't, and then when anything happens, it looks even close to a simulated game. They cannot report anything now after practice if a player says so and so was out there or so and so was not out there. That's a different story they can report that and so when Juju Smith Schuster said yeah it was great to have the Castro back out there will everyone was expecting to Castro's back. There's video of decastro standing next to Markey's pouncey in in there doing work and they're working on stuff and he's doing a line drills. So then they release an injury report. That says he did not participate in you're left scratching your head thinking what in the world is going on how he we saw the video, Juju? Smith what is juice machines are looking at that? He didn't get this right so I had to Davis field. Semi attacks or a message in the middle of the shows that you might WanNa hold off on recording. Some begrudgingly stopped in thankfully I did because then the steelers put out an updated injury report. That actually had David Decastro is a full participant today Wednesday September twenty third. Let's go over other than to Castro because he's a big player here. All pro pro bowl player having him backs going to be a great thing. Let's go into also exactly who else missed practice why they missed practice. So let's go over the players that missed practice that was not injury related. Essentially, they got a day off from Mike Tomlin Ben Rothlisberger. MARQUEES pouncey. steph onto it, cameron heyward all those veterans were given a day off and they were told. Breast up get ready for Sunday and Ben. Rothlisberger spoke to the media today on Wednesday and he said that they're going to continue with a plan that he's going to have Wednesdays off. It has nothing to do with his elbow surgery. It has everything to do with just trying to keep him fresh keep him healthy. It's not that he's not doing anything like I. Don't I don't think fans. Should think that just sitting on the sideline, a hooded sweatshirt watching practice. No Ben's out there. He's out there and he's he's specifically today said, he's GonNa work on his foot work. He felt that his footwork and his lower body was lazy in the game on on Sunday we too and that's why some of his throws were off. So he's still doing work, but at the same time, it's not. Full practice. He also said, you know because you look at the players that did not practice due to some type of injury David cash the neo four we know that the Anti Johnson he here's a to- did not participate. Zhijie Smith Schuster. Did Not, participate with a knee. Tyson, the wallow with the knee those were it. That's it. So a lot of those players shouldn't be concerned with not injure the not injure related, but even the looney dismiss her the to- for Deontay Johnson. Shouldn't be concerned with because honestly even Ben. Rothlisberger said the deontay Johnson was not going practice. Today's even Thursday. When we get back, we're GONNA work on this we're GONNA do full speed drills so we can get our timing down. So we're on the same page. So it's expected that deontay Johnson is going to be back. So for all those out there, that might listen to these names like Deanza. Juju Smith Schuster enticing all all and think, oh, my gosh. This. Is Bad. Well, first and foremost. You could always be worse in second I guarantee you that by Thursday tomorrow. All those players will be off the injury report in. They'll be back to practicing and there's a good chance unless David Decastro has a setback of some kind that you won't see any of these players Ltd they'll all be full participants in it's all systems go heading into Friday, and that would be really really awesome because when you think about it, you think about the rash of injuries that went through the national football league recently, it's incredible. But at the same time I, look at it and say man, the steelers are still a relatively healthy football team heading in the week three. For those who wonder just knocked on wood in case you're superstitious out there I know. But. Let's talk about the opponent. The Houston Texans they're coming to Pittsburgh talked about that at the beginning of the show Heinz field one o'clock. Here the players that were limited for the Houston, Texans wide, receiver Brandin, cooks with a quad. fullback cullen..

"Real quick. I want to touch on something with from Mike Thomas Press Conference today before we really dive a little bit more into this past game. And that is. He came out right away and said. David Castro's looking to come back to practice this week. We'll see if he's ready to then go this week. That's great. I waited the whole time. For. Just one just. which going years and just just one person who gets to ask coach Tomlin the question. To ask so coach. How'd you feel about Kevin Dotson this past week getting the game and everything and what are your plans with using him at all wants to Castro comes back. No question about Dotson. No question about Castro no question about tooks. No question about the offensive line period. They'd rather ask him about. You know you know. Wearing the masks on the sideline and other people getting fined about it. Asking about you know players switching up the name back their helmets. You know maybe that's what people really want to hear about me. I was like what is more important than asking about what's going to happen with her starting offensive line now that you're gone now that you're showing that you had five capable players this past week. And then another Cape More than capable player coming back how are you gonNa work that that's a great question to ask didn't get asked we don't know. So we're just GONNA have to assume that that just means to Castro comes in and goes to the bench and I mean. which is probably what's going to happen but. Nice to hear that. Would have been very nice. It's. You could get me off into a whole other topic of. Of. Media and kind of what it's about nowadays we. Put just real quick terms sometimes. I see a lot of. Media. Folks. Lose sight of the forest because of the trees. Yeah. Yeah. It's It's Yeah I mean, yes. Chase Klay. Pool doing a great job. Wonderful reception. Touch Tom gets asks about what they looked at when they scouted him to draft him. You know. Yeah okay. I still would have rather known what's going on the offensive line of what they're gonNa do and they have you know when they comes back but The Castro. Esther I know what he would have said he would have said you know we don't want get the cart before the horse. You know that would be paid with a broad brush. If we're GonNa, you know just assume that you're all pro guards gonNA make it back Sua until until we find. Racist He progresses in you know yeah and he would have given me a pretty key and answer. But that doesn't mean you don't ask the question. Yeah. All right yeah. So okay. Well. So. Before we dive in to some of the stuff we did get. A five dollars into the tip jar from Anthony because he's to, he's getting frustrated because apparently asking a lot of questions at the live chat when we haven't got to that part of it yet but I'll we'll go ahead and do this when so I don't lose it for later five dollars charts and. His two thoughts the rest made some bad calls that you made us to believe the defense was some par-. Yeah. I say that on you're not gonNA get any argument from me. Did you officiating was pretty boot was pretty poured and consistent Fritsch. I have seen worse. And have seen better. I would agree with the inconsistency I'm not sure that group was all on the same page in terms of what pass interferences. Biggest Stark -ment. Now. Here's the other one in the Phantom in the back the block in the back call. I actually got a clip of this sent to me by Jeffrey Benedict because you know he breaks everything. We'll talk some break down a little bit. I was going backwards in today as we were both looking at film and the next thing you know we're looking at the same way. that. The the official that through that flag. was like the worst official to actually see what happened he was on the sideline and like twenty five yards away. He, I mean, he just saw Davis Davis his sons hands go up. There's no way he could see if you actually hit him or not from back there. Is that we're seeing right there did not throw that flag and he throws his. Hands up in the air and. If he does his oh I, didn't touch him well. Yourself. Don't rule him up thrown back because sometimes that's your reaction to make sure you don't fall into somebody could try to keep your balance, but don't put him a pie keep down low. So that's one. But when we said, we're not going to even talk about the officially the -ficiating stuff. That was what we were talking about how the steel could put the game away even more to say, let's not focus on that part. Let's just look at how what the steelers could have done. Okay. Yes. The fishing's bad but. You know what they won the game anyway Emmett, could've won the game more even without the bad officiating. So thing but the other question wants to know was Wednesday I lost GonNa be you want to know what? I'm going to say I'm. GonNa Answer. This. Like, Mike Tomlin, a lot of the players. Good answer my style. I'm just taking him when we get it on. Going to get him further. I've said. This is. Not going to be this week since Mike Tomlin. Getting philosophical. Will you do there will be a point sometime in the future. or The steelers lose a football game You Go. When I did my Pixabay down here I heard it here. Perks. You heard it. There I I I picked four in Tennessee but I haven't been overly impressed with Tennessee so far. I'll look at them a little bit more whenever that we comes I'm. Not GonNa. Look at. I have a feeling. The steelers first loss is going to be one of those games where they probably should have could have won it. But just the things didn't go their way at the right time and we're GonNa talk about that more. We'll talk about that more so. Couple numbers from the game. Let's dive into the numbers before we really get into the topic of the show anything that jumped out specifically you..
Browns dealing with injury questions at tackle
"Us some news about steelers running back James Connor. Yoshimi sprained his ankle last night Laura now, Mike Tomlin said they're going to leave the white on them for this weekend. So they don't believe it's overly serious, but obviously couldn't finish last night's game in penny snow came and finishes the weeks second leading rusher play very well. Philip, he's got a case turf toe. He also didn't finish last night's game. The team is opening that it's mild. He's hoping that he'll be able to go. This week but PHILP Lindsey Nursing Turf Twenty three to Jerry painful for running backs a difficult injury, and of course, the bears right now are dealing with an unhappy Allen Robinson who today took off his social media pages all mentions of the bears he's unhappy with his contract situation. He's in the last year deal. He'd like a new contract and the fact that he is basically removing references to the bears on his social media platforms. An old trick also a new trick, but it also tells you a lot about players mindset, Alan Robinson not happy with the bears at this point in time.
The Cost of Student Debt
"Michael, thank you so much for joining us today. Thank you for having me during a plague I appreciate it. We appreciate you and I gotta say it like when I saw the title of your book, I don't WanNa die poor. You know I thought to myself every point in my life I feel that. ADDS but but tell us why did you want to write this book right now? I didn't really put Tomlin per se but I think off the bed I'm really sick of away. College debt is talked about it's either like it's really really bad. People did like some ridiculous off their debt, which is really silly I, WanNa talk about debt in the way it's actually really impacting people black college graduates and Black College. Graduates of all five in general. Yeah. Getting into it like. Did your dream of going to college costs you can in numbers. And totals about like a little over six figures, the primary loan that paid for. Power for the most part sixty, thousand principle in about thirteen years i. Spend about ninety, five, thousand dollars on it already it's just the fact that for a lot of people don't have access to certain capital, we don't come from certain backgrounds. So they take advantage of us. I tried to put in the context of like I took the educational woman of a subprime mortgage loan. Conversation. Around student I think tend to focus typically on the number of how much how long? To pay back how much interest You accrued over time. But in the book you really get is like the emotional cost of procedure dreams or getting an education talk more about that part I wanted to talk about in terms of high really impacts every facet of life instead of just kind of even like how did it impact mostly in terms of your dating some cases? How does it magnified trauma that you kind of grew up with you know run into also recognized A question like there is an emotional way that we carry in addition to the physical dead. But I think if people really kind of you don't have to have student loan debt to lead into, you know where we are. Now all of us kind of see like people being screwed over even better not their fault or at least you should not solely be blaming yourself for a situation that you did in earnest with the best intentions. In this year is kind of a I think compounds a lot of a lot of people are feeling obviously with the pandemic. Of subsequent like economic. Fallout. Economic Stadi- things is affecting black people with substantial student debt. Whenever, there's a crisis in the country. We feel the worst of it we have more debt just by virtue of again started from behind and trying to crawl away open. You know black grabs was even if you didn't necessarily have a substantial amount of debt realities, your college degree doesn't allow the same ability to generate wealth away a wife high school graduates still. So it's just kind of highlighted. What was already there to that end statistic is like you know it takes the average person twenty years. To pay back their student debt while a lot of people are. Building their lives. Starting entry level work trying to start families are having to take care of parents and loved ones. It's a lot to all at once. Are there any policies or initiatives that you think our leaders our government could putting in place to make this easier on people live with Horn and Bernie in particular really brought debt cancellations like a national conversation. We all go to cancel all student that in this country. and Said Joe Biden Credit, you know was not my first second third fourth pig but auntie slapped down and we is what it is. It is what it is. But I do get. that. Piggybacking off of some Elizabeth Warren's influence that he does have initiative about some level of debt forgiveness. It's not high as Bernie with Liz but there's the caveat if you are a black college graduates specifically and you make under one hundred, twenty, five, thousand dollars I believe that is like total debt cancellation because I think that's really one important way to kind of help a lot of people who are going to default this you. And that's also gonNA stop them from being able to buy houses and rent apartment. So let's fix the problem by giving people a great
Black Gun Ownership Rises Amid Pandemic, Protests For Racial Justice
"A record number of Americans have purchased guns this year including Black Americans from K. N. UNC in northern Colorado Lee. Patterson reports that incidents of violence against people of color have pushed some to purchase guns for the very first time and warning to our listeners. There are sounds of gunfire in this story. What type of gun is? So this is a Smith and Wesson nine millimeter shield cat trailer bought her handgun this past spring these as she practices at an indoor range with her husband like it's no big deal. But talking through her mask trailer describes how she felt the first time she pulled the trigger is beyond terrified shaking. Hands were sweaty. Trailer is a democratic political consultant who lives in Colorado. At first, she was nervous cleaning and shooting her new gun. And she had a bad experience, the first range she went to she says people were staring she felt unwelcome. Still regardless of the anxiety I had around. All those things. I got into this because I feel like it was necessarily trailer I started thinking about buying a gun when she saw empty grocery store shelves at the beginning of the pandemic. Then she watched racial justice protests unfold across the country. She started thinking about pushback from people who disagree with those efforts if it looks like communities, of Color and people that support communities of color are rising up against white supremacy that could be a problem for us is. It's probably time probably time for them to buy guns a thought that many other Americans have also had in. August. Alone people bought one point eight million firearms according to industry estimates a trade group called the National Shooting Sports Foundation reports the gun sales to customers have grown more percentage wise than for any other racial or ethnic group. With. Her New gun trailer wants to feel like she has a chance during a home invasion or an encounter with police. What we as the family had to determine is, how do we WANNA die? Instead of look at it that way. DO WE WANNA die not being prepared or at least trying to protect ourselves. That's how you weigh that as part of becoming a new gun owner trailer joined the National African American Gun Association Philip Smith is the founder nationally across the board from all over every state. We have people joining all times a day night. You know I I thought something was wrong with computer. Smith was watching membership numbers rise after the death of George Floyd may but black people have been using guns for hunting and protection for a long time historian say that Harriet Tubman carried firearms so did the Black Panthers in the nineteen sixties these days according to a Gallup poll released last year nineteen percent of black people own guns. Smith says his members are not monolithic. Some women join because they've been sexually assaulted some women join because they wanNA teach you some men join because they want to just get really good at self defense people are joining now for different. Reasons some want to support the National African American Gun Association Financially Smith says for others it's more spiritual I. Think people were looking for a home a place where you can kind of event you can belong where you felt your mind having a relief of some sort Bruce Tomlin a truck driver who lives in New Mexico describes his decision to buy a gun response to stress. I'll just say amounting society He felt that way after watching cellphone video showing the death of Ahmad arbitrary a black man who was shot while jogging through neighborhood in Georgia earlier this year don't. Go around arm the rest of my life. That's because he's been feeling under attack for years after the two thousand, twelve killings of Trayvon Martin, for example, and after the mass shooting at a black church in Charleston in two thousand, fifteen by a white supremacist goes like I can just be mine them all business. And if somebody who's a racist, just decide to roll up on me gun meet down. As is decided that like if I go out I'M GONNA go out shooting back. But now that he's an actual gun owner, it's not so straightforward day to day of feel like I can defend myself better defend my loved ones. But I usually get comfortable having it sometime he does not want to kill or injure anyone open carry makes them nervous I would never take my gone to the grocery store and carry around inside or anything like that. But on the other hand I could be in a situation where needed still out in the car or whatever I just like knowing that I have it gun ownership is complicated for Tomlin especially because he's black if he was stopped by police says, he probably wouldn't tell them that he had a gun. And catch trailer says the same thing giving the example of philander casteel he was shot during a traffic stop for years ago in Minnesota after telling an officer that he had a firearm, his car casteel did have a permit to carry it. Cat Trailer believes that gun cost him his life we're not given a fair shake when these conversations are happening automatically worsen tensions are assumed just because we're black, we're gun owners for both of these new black gun owners. It's an identity that comes with risks, but does make them feel safer for

Yeah and you know the easiest places started the that's always fun is is kind of breaking in and I'm curious if you went to school to to learn to be a writer went to film school and then what some of your early jobs where it how you broke in. Sure I. Fell in love with the idea of being in movies when I was about. Seven years old seven years old and it was then because I saw movie fell in love with that. I had movies that I. I was really in love with, but it was because I met a film producer. Is this guy named John Hart and John. Had I think just recently finished producing boys don't cry and He was a friend of the family friend of a friend situation. And He, he was the purpose of his existence taught me that Oh movies or something that are made and people do that for a job and that just seems so cool to me. I asked him for his email address. Doesn't like the mid nineties I then had to go create my own email address that I could correspond with this guy, and then I stayed in touch with him for ten years and when I was sixteen years old I intern for him while he was making the movie revolutionary road. and. So kind of being being his intern through that process was was kind of my first industry job down in New York City shortly after that I went to suny purchase for film and then right after that right on the heels I went to the American Film Institute and went for directing and it was it was assorted erupt. What years what year did you go to the institute? Twenty twelve twenty fourteen. Okay and what was your eye opening thing that you saw working as an intern on revolutionary roads? Something that like a lightbulb really clicked.

Appropriate definitely feeling out of sorts, and and you would imagine it would be to be expected, but then I started to wonder about hormones. Which is why I called you. I wondered whether. The sudden change in lifestyle of having to go into lockdown. Could actually be impacting our hormones and therefore affecting our mood affecting how we feel. and. Could it be? It certainly cake. Yeah, I! MEAN WE'RE! We're in a really stressful period. That sort of. Mass external stress that's going on as well as sort of. The stresses that are. End. The toke before by whatever's going on in the word is A. Big External stress is going on and on the other people are having a big change in their lifestyle or whom? The Public Transit Problem in San Francisco
"As cities across the US. Start opening backup. There is a question looming over many of the country's biggest economies public transit trains. Subways and bus lines are crucial to cities like New York. Chicago and San Francisco but public transit tends to pack people together. It is basically a social distancing. Maher Jeffrey Tomlin is the director of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency right now. Streetcars and rail systems in the city are not running and many bus routes have been shut down but as San Francisco starts to re-open Jeffery has to find a way to safely restart public transit. We call Jeffrey at his home. Or by the way it's a little spotty in places But if we are so thrilled to have you with US thank you for joining us So how long have you been with the San Francisco? Mta I started on December sixteenth was pretty intense first one hundred days. Oh my gosh you just started yes. I'm sorry that's A. That's a lot really fast. So Jeffrey. What steps did you take? The pandemic started Soon as the emergency order was issued a cut of military style strategic war room council gets formed and we formed that quickly knowing that the issues around the virus. We're going to hit our department. I so we put all that together at the end of February and then in a worm style. Like like in the movies really. Yeah I mean you know you're spaced out in a big conference room with whiteboards trying to figure out what on three going to so from what I understand. There are some cities that have opened up. And you've been kind of taking some inspiration from from cities like Taipei that have gotten their public transportation system up in running And I think I read that you had like a zoom call with the transit director in. Taipei's that right that's right in fact the mayor of Taipei Join US Which was a special treat Not only as a city are they reducing dramatically but they are having a very very low transmission rate on their public transit and they're public transit ridership is nearly back to a pre covet level. Oh so what are they doing? They have rigidly enforced Wearing a face coverings. They put up temperature checking stations at the fare gates before you get on the subway. Little infrared pens that like basically it goes near your forehead and it's an infrared reader off of your forehead so mask requirements temperature checks. What else are they doing? Contact tracing is a really really big deal and this is another area where we're going to struggle in the United States the the intensity of the contact tracing that they do in part because of the public surveillance cameras. How do you feel about the prospect of getting San Francisco Public Transit? Like ready for you know to have like it's normal. Seven hundred thousand people writing it. We know more now about how to protect our workers and so more workers are coming back to work on. That is the first step and then the second step is having that uncomfortable conversation with our city leaders. About how much are we prepared to enforce the rules so Jeffrey? A lot of the changes you're talking about would be quite expensive What is the San Francisco? Mta's budget situation so back in January separate Cisco's at the peak of a boom economy wealthier than it has ever been one of the wealthiest cities in the world and the Transportation Agency had a sixty million dollar structural deficit meaning. Our expenses were rising significantly faster than our revenue and we were going to have to cut something or find new revenue just in order to be able to keep swimming in place by the time shelter in place was ordered in mid March. Our primary revenue streams were down eighty to one hundred percent so the city is devastated economically and the transportation department more so at the moment than most other agencies because we are so dependent upon transit fares and parking fees and fines and all of those went zero. So that's the other thing that keeps me awake at night. How on Earth do I deliver service to the public in this time of intense need at the same time our revenue has completely collapsed and the absolute last thing that I want to do is to lay off a single worker in a time of economic crisis unprecedented since the Great Depression? We have to figure out what what gets cut a Ford to deliver the service that we had been delivering back in January and it will be a while before the city's economy comes back

Leo You're in the motherland right. I was in beautiful Israel. Why for my grandmother's one year as a memorial service? Yeah Had a chance to sit and study some Tomlin with my Gerke Hassett cousins. I dearly love and again you know. We're often kind of like you know funny about these matters here but every now and then I really do get the urge to be sincere when I sit with people who you would think we have absolutely nothing uncommon. But then you realize we are truly literally and metaphorically speaking family and when we get together that love that connection is completely puttable we have spent very a little time talking about the fact that you're related to Garros So how did these are first cousins of yourself. I Costa who went. Who Went Garrard in your family? My Grandmother's sisters Shula Married Girl Haas. Okay this is a particular sect of Hasidim. What is there? What's the What their vibe? Like what what makes Gerhardt's put it like this cafe after the memorial service writing grandmother. Someone was talking about a person who's become about Shuba who's found religion later in life and became a gir- haas acid and one of my cousins who is Haas it said really no one becomes Bolshevik becomes a hostage and I asked why not and my cousin said well. Because it's it's perfectly fine to be like a really religious Jew and not go all the way to where we are. Why would you ever do the house? We have no choice right. Mind way you ever come here. It's so interesting I don't have any Cassini blackadder's any Haredi in my family I have modern orthodox cousins in Israel whose parents my mother's first cousin hasn't her husband actually were leaders of the conservative movement in Israel but then there's not much of a conservative movement in Israel so if you grow up kind of conservative conservative acts like observant conservative but if you SORTA got a pick or are you going secular going modern Orthodox and they're you know they're orthodox but I don't know of anyone who's like got the hat and the beard. It's a great a crying. Shame you have Hasidic material written all over your basically and this is the thing that I I kind of realized this week. 'cause we were hanging we were talking and at some point. The conversation vacation got kind of really elevated. And then I thought you know moved to dial like three clicks to the right and we're talking about Cherry Garcia Right in one thousand nine hundred. Seventy right eating shrimps and the bus and the way to Monterrey. That's kind of the VIBE. Yeah really the essence of not just observing the strict strict interpretation of the law but really trying to find this motionless spiritual connect mystical court to it would love to. I WanNa hang with your gear custom in cousins or Greg. I had a slightly different experience but in its way no less mystical by the way while you're talking about Jerry Garcia on the bus. Were you on the conference call when I when we were all doing like a pre show Oh crap and Rebecca. My thirteen year old was in the car and she was saying Dad. Can you explain the the grateful dead to me which is a really deep question because you know I could say I mean. I think we'd been listening to uncle. John's John's Bander Casey Jones. Or something you've come on. Come on the playlist in the car and I could say well it's a it's a group from about nineteen sixty seven to nineteen. Ninety give is playing the debt side. But I could give you the Brownie right and you'll eat it thirty five minutes you'll understand everything about this man. I mean I. It's really hard to say because it's so much more than a band to six never made sense to me before I try them on. Meet cliche thing to say. One is a grateful dead. The second is tennis and attended attended. I'm like wait until you understand. 'em This is a great game. I just have to move my eleven right. I'm so into this now. I add my own mystical experience in Wia missing in Pennsylvania and a bunch of people came like they'd set up fifty chairs. Forty five of the chairs were were filled with super curious. Interesting people of all ages a young rabbi from Lebanon Pennsylvania brought his twenties and thirties. Group is like young singles of which there were five or six and they were super into it and they listen to the show and they wanted copies the book and it was magical. The Jewish Cultural Committee organizes their author series was three people. None of whom was is Jewish. Okay one of them was Nancy Russo. WHO's married to to Paul something? Jewish and Nancy is is Italian Catholic by upbringing. The main woman the director of cultural life for the Jewish nation is Amanda Hornberger. Whose husband is like something German Lutheran? She herself grew up. Congregational est she's on the vestry of her united the Church of Christ Congregational Church. I've always said that the congregation great out and there was a local librarian named John who grew up in Baltimore where he did sixteen years of Catholic school and then went off to college college. I mean literally none of these people even guys. Every time we meet a gentle on our show it turns out there a quarter Jewish. These people like zero Jew in them and yet they are keeping the Jewish heart beating y missing Pennsylvania. They were interested they were curious they're booking good authors. They're running great programs. The people they bring in Inter asking smart questions Jews by choice we had a convert. who showed up a Sherry came and said thank you for your your help on my journey? The podcast has been meaningful to me. gentile L. spouses of Jews. Why a missing? Pennsylvania was among the greatest afternoons of my life is how it ought to be how it ought to be. Whatever New York like fucking fucking A.? Y. A. Missing Pennsylvania it there. Are Jews starve reading. The News starts reading this and I want to see even today do an event at the Barnes and Noble in Union Square. And you'll get fifty fifty three people and I go to why missing and get forty and in town. That's probably like twelve thousand people get numbers you get. People are truly engaged truly engaged and so grateful full end their listeners and the ones who aren't listeners could become listeners I it was it was magical. Speaking of Magic Amazon is somehow making the Nazis disappear in news to the Jews. This this week we learned from the New York Times about that Amazon is and I quote quietly canceling its Nazis over the past eighteen months. The retailer has removed books by David. Duke a former the leader of the Ku Klux Klan as well as several titles by George Lincoln Rockwell founder of the American Nazi Party Amazon also prohibited volumes like the ruling elite the Zionist seizure of world power and and history of central banking and the enslavement of mankind from its virtual shelves. What are we think of Amazon? Taking strong hand Nazi literature out of its store. You're I'm not down with it. I'm not either tell you. Because here's the thing. Once you at a major conglomerates start making judgment calls about what is and is is not permissible for its captive audience to read. I think you're sorta screwed actually kind of a free speech absolutist in this way like yes I want everyone three David Duke Doc if only because once you do unless you're total frigging maniacal moron. You'd understand that this is absolute drivel. Actually want like free copies and like every this show be like. Hey guys here you go and try to get your way through mine com- If you can't get twelve pages into it. It's the most boring stuff you'll ever find. The beginning is funny. The middle sags the characterization gets gets a little thin toward the ad still never figured out how it ended. I never read it. No but really like do I really want Amazon making this call them. Why not the next up being like well you know This type of ideology is also quite offensive to us in history is in the type of thing we want people to read. You can imagine agenda that you can imagine where it goes very quickly to Jews in the Middle East or Zionist saying. We don't WanNa read you know the Hamas Charter and Palestinian activists saying we don't want to read. This spoke about the founding of Israel. I mean it's all of a sudden you've a lot of people who authentically believe that they are keeping genocidal literature out of the hands of other people saying what people can and cannot read and you add in the fact that Amazon really does have a kind of monopoly power. "Yesterday security officers escorted lieutenant colonel Alexander women out of the White House his twin brother also won the national security staff was escorted out at the same time and then it was turned for Gordon Sunland no escort for him though ambassador Sunland issued a statement thanking the president for the opportunity to serve as US ambassador to the European Union both in minutes Tomlin provided damaging testimony about the president's pressure campaign on Ukraine last fall during the house impeachment enquiring and after their dismissals many people wonder who might be next we're joined now by amperes Whitehouse correspondent Franco Oregonians Franco thanks so much for being with us thank you remind us about the testimony how damaging well women oversaw American policy toward Ukraine on the National Security Council he actually listened in on president trump's July twenty fifth call with Ukraine president Vladimir is a Lansky he testified that he had no doubt that trump was demanding that Ukraine investigate former vice president Joe Biden in return for an oval office visit he also said that relations between the United States and Ukraine were damaged as a result and he struck quite a figure on television testifying being there in his dress uniform you know I do want to note that both then man and his brother were moved back to the army and ambassador some well son one was one of the quote three Amigos who worked with Rudy Giuliani the president's lawyer on Ukraine policy they worked outside the normal foreign policy channels was there a quid pro quo as I testified previously with regard to the requested White House call in the White House meeting the answer is yes he famously also said that everyone was in the loop but his comments were also used by Republicans to defend trump Sunland said at one point that trump told him that he wanted nothing from Ukraine and no quid pro quo Franco is is retaliation or the president making as is his right personnel changes well you know we saw president trump celebrating his acquittal this week he was clearly angry and even spoke about van man and his brother with disdain you know his press secretary Stephanie Grisham said people should be held accountable for doing things that hurt this country and the president I asked John Gans about this he wrote a book on the NSC called White House warriors he said it's clear trump knew people were watching had he done this last week it could have been held against him but now feels unleashed by the acquittal in one of these three people gone service was repressed so that is something that they all knew going into these jobs but it is still shocking to see sort of personal animus of personal retribution plaque out and the peers to be with these three public servants it's not a surprise that democratic leaders like house speaker Nancy Pelosi and senator Chuck Schumer our outrage they are calling this shameful and they're calling trump weak and Frank are there are other career civil servants who testified in the inquire re do they still have their jobs well there have been a flood of people who have already left they include US ambassadors who worked in Ukraine such as Maria von of H. and William Taylor but there are still seven career officials who are still in their jobs my colleagues and I we reached out to their attorneys last night and to this moment there are no changes to report

The Classic Moments Not GonNa lie of being that'd been docked to being twelfth being over because I don't worry tie little fight in love everything about all of the come opening Cameron louds physicality of Avenue. You know gain in there and I've been a little bit percents There's no way I fi- why and someone awards I've been involved in. He goes swimming. You get what you know. He's how many more wars have. Where do I draw the line? Do I have one war too. Many interesting I've achieved my mountaintop. I've known world champion The best fighter in the world book of our right good goal of made to talk caught. Memories are properly really. We're GONNA talk about some of your your best memories and best fights and stuff over the next so forty five minutes dish. You've come coming to the end of the year career as you know you can always have just one more fight but actually to draw the line and walk away before that one more fight becomes two more free more. Yeah yeah he's actually probably brave room. I get back in the ring. Yeah it's not money does get it right and when the right hammers to to get out and five very yes you have you look at examples of guys lead. Floyd mayweather obsolete aren't right Joe Calzaghe don't rate. There's not many more that the the difference like just getting out of boxing at the right time. We're not talking like levels of war. People are in the sport but very few fighters get it right and a problem with a lot of geysers they lose a fate and they will win an illusion and negotiates the win and I it just keeps going on and I think that's someone like Tommy Tommy Different Completely different character me. I'm enjoying boxing. At this point in time him but when I feel like a stand retire nor ten retire I will. We were joking about it. I was expecting Tomita shadows here today. I'll Albee hoppy when I sit down and do a Tko. Paul cost talking about my retirement. I have a phenomenal business. I have a little business business of work harder and always been a believer that you console Dream Look like a nightmare. I'm health and wellbeing industry and out. How can I go out that promote health and wellbeing? If I've got my own and the way I fight he's no viable in the body the brain everybody knows aw. My eyesight is being affected. Douse the reason Jane more pulled me in the fire Jerry and I don't WanNA A. I considered the operation to fix vision. But that would be like you know in the Burn Hill and then Jim fire you and you know some day I don't want full live with this won't leave. I I really love it. I've hundreds of kids training gyms are WANNA stay in. I love it so I can Remain passionate by and do a good job of older kids that we work with when you mentioned about the either one nine the spring Simonis Mondays. Anthony go go. He was on the Undercard of Derry. Mathews if I'm right and he's been caught woefully short so early very very unfairly and I guess the one thing that when people look to you when this episode goes out in a in a couple of times that you have set the exit strategy up from. I'm a sport that so many tone we're gonNA hide featuring older Danny Williams this season at some point and sit down with him us into forties after an amazing career the sort of ended a decade and half ago and didn't perhaps because he didn't necessarily stop an exit strategy and didn't have maybe the education to realize that there are other things that you need to do off the boxing and I know that some of you were hard on we've been saying life off the boxing and you have to set it up early and Patchy think do I would take the base of Tommy and again I know where I'm at the stage of my career but my boxing at this point in time is capable of the time I'm not so I want to do and I think that I think in about the things that Tomlin's doing I want to replicate what he's doing in Belfast. And the thing that will give me something kept me out of bed in the morning and I wanna be people in the whole of Tommy and the people at the community level and the kids and their parents wants. He's doing such things. I would love to do that. And he got back with me to the Belfast. And Tommy of spoke about it and he's willing to help me and give me ideas ideas and stuff and Tommy's more business minded a May I January collaborate business. I don't have a plea but only learn can learn a bit from Tommy. The thing is I don't have a real clue about how business I'm visionary. I'm very very visual. And I've been very very fortunate. Now I've managed to get the right people on the spot on the point if people know while the boss government program. I've managed to get the right people on the books to help we achieve the division. And no it takes brains to one surround yourself with brains and I think that's where I've been smart. I realized it's a many years ago. Everybody has a shelf life and I knew I don't need I would say shelf life and I did starts applying for after after boxing because I made all wrong decisions. Growing good may or expelled from school from school. No Geez no real no real education. It's all really early and who's to say that I WANNA go engine Mama I would. I don't so I was mindful. The box rooms only gonna be for so long and I needed something want to stimulate my brain kiss. I don't think so probably from one. I put to something to to fall back on on family. Three children three boys a wife go to support them and box in for me as just been vehicle to go and do there's some great things in the community and some great things and my business at all about assume day and accounting. How many people are in my team? I don't say staffer team and my OAF is important because no saying I'm invincible. I play Vile Pot and the organization. They will rely on me for a salary will families. And when you it's a I've told you and you have a company you don't think about yourself I'm going to take everything's consideration consideration. That's why I've done for the last six. There's no why why have not jump to conclusion and tried to rush my decision full by law and hot of strategized about it and first and foremost my kids. Far too important island fought in watch to risk my health. I see the bigger picture you know. I'm going to wake up every day now instead of waking up and thinking right it's time to go to the gym. Grab grab I gotTA have breakfast but I've got to get to the

Is Homefield Advantage Dead?
"WANNA start here eight and I think this allows us to get in week fifteen you mailed me some stats last week And now we saw again today. Road teams were nine and six against the spread. The road teams won all nine of those games outright for the season road teams against the spread. One twenty five ninety three three and five there thirty two games over five hundred while home favorites Through fifteen weeks or fifty seven eighty one in five twenty four games. That's amazing right there. And we have had over and over again these double digit losses. We just had it today again with San Francisco cousin. Sal I ask you this homefield advantage dead. It might be there might be. I think you said you said it in basketball you were saying was dead. It's funny yesterday on text exchange. But yeah if you're looking through your pools and you have to pick sixteen games a week if there are no bison. You're going six and ten every week it's because you're taking home favorites. I know I know it's hard hard. I know when the better team is laying six at home. It's hard to not circle the left side but stay away. It's very bizarre an extremely bizarre week. The raiders was ending that Falcons ending the Vikings first half cost people money the way that ended obviously the Redskins Eagles. That might have been the worst ending if you had if you had the redskins the plus points Or if you're going against Cooper cop in your honesty semi funky you hold. That thought we were talking about that. I think what's interesting to me. I I remember I wrote about this at the end of last decade ironic. I think Oh eight zero nine I wrote about this trend with with the NFL where it didn't see my homefield matter the way it did and then we had settled into this eight nine year run. We're homefield still mattered. But not like a date when we were growing up where it was like. If you went into somebody else's house also really hard to win and then you get to this year and I think we're seeing it with basketball to serves texting boat this weekend. I think there's three reasons I think the first reason is the secondary market. And the fact that you just don't have stadiums anymore words just completely fans for the home team yet so it it always seems to be more splintered than it used to be. The tickets have gotten way more expensive so I think that's that's Priced out some of the crazies. You know like some of the friends wrens. You had grown up some of the friends that I had back in Boston. It's just harder for them to for tickets and then I think the third thing. There's been so much talk about civility ability at games and you know fan behaviors. Just been a huge spotlight on how people behave and what they're allowed to do and yell. Oh and all that stuff and the crowds just seem Tamer and we saw today with the raiders. Blew a game late to Jacksonville Euro and this was the last I Oklahoma Game. It was on those on that. They're not gonNA lose their last home game and frigging g Menchu when right down the field out and then we saw it again today with Buffalo. It's like Ow Josh. Challenge when push comes to Shove Jiaxuan is not GonNa be able to get points in Pittsburgh. The crowd will take him out of it their defense no Josh Allen right down and scored. I don't know who has the great home field advantage anymore. So we'll Josh Allen didn't have a great game no thirteen completions. That was just an. I'm sorry I Pittsburgh Burke might still make the playoffs and I pray that they do because I have. They're the only team I could see betting against in that first round like I have a feeling on any other first round match unless Pittsburgh goes to Kansas City. I mean they've they've got in the last five games in which the supposedly hot they scored fifteen points a game. It's just Mike. Tomlin did as much much as he could. He can't do what you can do for this offense. You can't fake punt from his own twenty eight every week. I'm sorry but I think you're right. I think it's all the things you said. I also I think. Road teams coaches management has figured out the exact amount of time a team should spend in the opposing city. You know it's easier to travel now all that kind of stuff so there's not that much The jet lag isn't as big a concern. But you're right. We used to see division winners at seven and one eight eight. No now aside unless you like the packers this cowboys eagles four and three Kansas City foreign three at home like even the really good teams. You know Houston only five and two at home. Buffalo's GonNa make the playoffs only four and three at home i. I don't know what the reason is but trust us. These home teams are not. They're not better than they were five ten years ago. Yeah and I think that Tennessee Games are good example right. Yep didn't really seem like it mattered. Where that game was played and I don't think it's GonNa Matter Week? Seventeen either right now. The crowd was was good. They were into it but it wasn't like wasn't like the Shawn Watson was going to be affected by the crowd. We left out another reason that I think matters maybe Charles back to our childhoods. But you know the headsets the head facing the helmets and the and the QB being able to hear the offensive coordinator being able to move faster and the the even somebody like trubisky you know they were in that game that I know the packers won by eight. And if he didn't see the game you just assume The packers they were up double digit second half but the bears were lingering in that game and there were a couple of moments era when it seemed like they had a chance maybe to force overtime and I didn't think h Bisky who I don't think is good then look scared but he. He certainly wasn't rattled by playing in Lambo. So I stopped when when you know the we've been doing million dollar pegs you and I have been. We've been betting all season. I've really stopped looking at home field. They're very very few times. Do I say to myself. Oh my God that teams home. I really really love having the home team here even even tonight I bet on Buffalo. Hello at Pittsburgh. And as you said Josh Allen wasn't great but they were still able to move the ball and they needed to and their defense certainly traveled. It didn't seem to matter to them where they were playing. And I just think we throw homefield out. I don't know where it really matters anymore. Well if we go into the playoffs saying I just can't see so and so winning at ax EXC. There's not that many of those anymore right right. Then probably win their game at home and you know the niners or or or award seahawks over wax or they'll have a by but you know those some of those row teams near Green Bay will probably win at home but you can't say unless it's dot co dot com is going to Kansas City. I can't really say Buffalo. There's no way they're winning in Houston right or anything like that especially when you get to the one to three seeds when they match up so do you think is Seattle place that you feel like homefield battered team in the playoffs That's probably top three but not as much Chisato did eight years ago when Tony Romo had to go there or something like that. I don't think it's slow because think about what are they foreign to Yeah about about their last couple of games whether seven and one on the road I mean it is scary arose team right there. Last couple of games Minnesota went in there and put thirty autumn atom. Yep and then the game before that James Put thirty four on them in that game went to overtime I don't know I I wanted to start. The season isn't yeah. It's not the

Well you know we talked about players with new attitudes the whole team the coon by that. I've just been i might is. We'll get that copyrighted because i've been using that just ad nauseam <hes> so and oh by the way tony i saw your <hes>. I saw your your quote. I believe it on facebook about spelling ad nauseam if i'm correct on so i had to bring that up but i've been using i've been using team kun-bae like crazy. I'm glad to see that <hes> there were some flared up pensions the other day with a hayward with villanueva and they were joking about it afterwards. That's what happens in the heat. That's what happens when you have passionate. I have no problem with that so it's great to be amped up. It's great to have that new attitude and tweaking something's just upping the decibels upping the intensity. Can that be said for coach mike tomlin what have we seen so far from mike tomlin tomlin and has he up the intensity. Is he going to change. Is he going to tweak a little bit this year. Are we going to see less with the running backs running being the wheels off running backs. Are we going to see just call him upping the ante. This tier is missile midnight for mike tomlin as well dave. Let's start with you. You've got first of all. You've got to remember that you are talking to a former football coach so i've kind of been there with some of the stuff nowhere close to the level of these guys but at least i have an understanding adding of what it's like to to coach football being locker room and everything else there is nothing that we have seen from for mike tomlin this year to make us think that it's going to be any different but the key part of that phrase is that we have seen because the the biggest role of mike tomlin of coming out and answering questions at the end of every every practice and training camp which has been fantastic for helping me write some articles and from 'em taking over after the game added to his press conference everything we think i think that what mike tomlin is doing. They're on the sidelines. The biggest thing what my commas doing is in the locker room every day and we can't see it and we don't yeah no it but i'm hoping it's different because by seeing the players be different. You think that that's also got to be a reflection of what's going on with your coach coach. You know what tony i have. I seen i kind of feel a comb intensity from mike tomlin here. I feel like he has upped the ante. Where are you on this whole thing and we're not talking about and i mentioned threat level midnight. I'm not talking about his job at all. I'm just talking about him upping the ante knowing that this is a year where everybody was under fire in the off season because of some players leaving. There's been in all kinds of talk. You know that this guy is a competitor. He's itching to win. He's so do you think that he's going to turn that dial l. a. up so much more and maybe do some things he has not done. In the past. Yeah we talked about the running backs. I mean kevin covert mentioned that in the off-season about maybe they have to revisit their approach to that and and so that might be one aspect of the changes <hes> he <hes> he agree he to to have a coach that was in charge of challenges which had to be <hes> difficult for him to to admit that he wasn't really really good at that. You know it's not you know coach big egos and and you know we see legendary coaches like chuck knoll refused to change go-carts will come come a long time to open up the playoffs and trust is a franchise quarterback when he finally got one and you saw that paid dividends they want a super bowl with that so you know he mentioned <hes> how the departures of brown and bell a cleansing for the organization for the locker room..

"He's the type of guy that makes you feel like you want to run through a brick wall for them. Right. And so so like when I hear the quarterback who has a lot of leash mouth off constantly throw players under the bus and all these. Of things I think well, if I have to place blame anywhere the most of it. I would give it I guess to rothlisburger, but let's focus on Tomlin. Here Tomlin horses for courses. He's not going to be for everyone. It obviously his way works better than almost anyone else's. They're more successful than almost anyone else. But it's not forever everyone. I was asked Mike Tyson about his former trainer and now ESPN broadcaster and remains a trainer of professional fighters Arun teddy. Atlas as a trainer, what do you think about teddy the trainer because they've famously had huge kind of bad encounters. And he said I would liken him to Bobby Knight. He's not for everyone. Great trainer, but not for everyone. So Mike Tomlin is a great coach. He's not for everyone. And just as a disciplinarian, maybe bad for certain types, a kind of player friendly coach who gives them more leash may be bad for certain types in the context of a team and that maybe Tomlin with Antonio Brown. Okay. Hold on hold on. So max, you reference Bella check several times, you know. I don't think it's fair to take Tomlin and say, why don't you Bella check? I don't think it's also fair to what I think both of your doing to some extent argue with me as though I'm suggesting Thomas terrible or he's one of the worst. What I'm telling you is. And you reference referenced Bella chick when I think you're with me on this Damien when you have little problems continuously everywhere, you have to nip them in the bud or they metastasized think it's the same as raising children children. Don't just grow up going. I'm not gonna listen to you. It starts one day and one day turns into two, and then it's ten years of not listening to you this in Tokyo Brown Levy on bell and max even been Rothberg 'cause I'm not absolving been. But I know that bins boss is Mike Tomlin. It's Tomlin's job to bring all that into line. And we have to acknowledge it's not. Will they wave underachieved zero control over bell showing up or not how is that on Tomlin? But whether or not bell shows up whether or not as Daniel points out, the offense of lineman and talk about it with not other players talk about Bill, this culture and environment. If I may quickly go I want to extend the parenting metaphor real quick, if you have a student if you have a child who gets bring home as most of the time, but occasionally be you may look at the beach or the see once in a while and say, you know, why this is because this parenting techniques too lenient in certain ways as you point out. Well, and it metastasized now you've brought home a see this one time when usually you get as, but there are trade-offs as though, you know, the perfect way to parent as though going in the other like your it's an imaginary world where there's this ideal parenting style that yields perfect results. And what we're saying is whatever if you want to reduce it to that. Metaphor Tomlin's parenting styles better than almost everyone else's. If let's you compared to the greatest of all time. What listen listen mex-. Like, I pointed out at the beginning. We will get Mike Tomlin's body of work. I mean, it's up there with the elite. There's no question. Coach Bill is he's outline he's in the class Obam sell. I think what we're saying here is along the line. Will is talking about when you let little things build up. Then that's how big things happen. Whether they've been what Big Ben calling people in the media. You know, you're on these things add up man, you gotta attributed today account three. I totally get it. But he played for the patriots. And you've said this before to me, and I understand Bella checks on a whole 'nother level, but you said the locker room would control and police themselves. So that at some point that. Down the players. All right Damon. Thank you. We gotta go guys..

"Curtain dot com here with you for another weekly installment of this solo episode where I answer a question that might just be on a lot of folks minds that follow the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, if you haven't heard the news yet, and maybe you haven't because there have been a lot of sources that have come out with us, but the Pittsburgh post gazette writer, Jerry dulack put out that recently the Steelers organization and Mike Tomlin ultimately decided that instead of replacing outside linebacker Joey outside linebacker coach. Reporter they decided to just have Keith Butler defensive coordinator take over those duties now a lot of people myself included, I might what? Well, then I thought about it a little bit more. And I understood that Butler has plenty of experience in this arena. And. Fact, he was the linebackers. Coach was prior to them having an inside linebacker special coach specialty coach an outside linebacker specialty coach I used to be just Butler himself. This is under the dick lebeau regime. Duke LeBow was forced out of town. Keith. A is when you organization decided to bring in Jerry will sassy coach the inside linebackers and Joey porter to coach the outside. Clearly, they fire Jerry porter or his contract was not renewed. Same thing in my opinion. None the less. It's all semantics and so instead of bringing in an outside source for talk. We heard any named like Kevin Greene was thrown around the lot. They decided to say hey on top of being the defensive coordinator urine. Now be responsible for the development and production of players. I T J watt, and bud depre- and whomever else they might bring it now at this time. I also think myself in this was noted in do lex article that this is the only coordinator that has a secondary duty, for instance, rain defeat and is also still the quarterbacks coach, I get that. But he's going to be dealing and talking with Ben Rothlisberger a ton anyways. In terms of how they draw up plays. And how they. They focus on specifics in how they're going to attack defense as pretty much the same thing. I ask though, how is this going to change the way Keith Butler does his job because think about it this offseason? Terms of the coaching staff has been some changes, you know, out side of Joey porter. They bring in tarot Austin who used to be the defensive coordinator the Bengals who was fired midseason. He's a defensive assistant. That's going to be also helping out the secondary, very odd. Emma seemed as if they're going to have to coordinators, you know, Austin in Butler Butler will take care of the front seven. And then clearly awesome. Take care of the back end. I'm not saying that's how it's going to happen. It just seems like maybe that's the direction they're headed. With that said, I think that we all myself included can look at this situation and say if there's a weakness on this Pittsburgh Steelers team, whether it was two thousand eighteen or whether it was moving looking ahead to two thousand nineteen it's on the defensive side of the football. It's not that the offense hasn't had issues. We know that they do. But at the same time this defense has some glaring glaring weaknesses. And so you can talk about coaching. You can talk about a lot of different things. The question the burning question on tonight's episode is who is more to blame. Head coach Mike Tomlin defensive coordinator. Keith butler. The reason I asked is because it's a season ended. Everyone always wants to fire Tomlin. And there's a lot of people that have some serious underlying issues with Mike Tomlin that don't have anything to do with football. That's fact, not saying that's a vast majority of fans, but there are plenty that won him gone..

We're not going to discuss lady on being we're gonna talk about the guys that we have in this locker room that's going to be here from the jump infant when he comes back. We'll discuss that situation. So anytime his name comes up. I would prefer you referred them to me. Yeah. We're not going to discuss it they discussed this early on the organization also bear some culpability because they told lady I'm bail. What else do they need to see the guy played to the English drown his contract? They franchising lady on and came to the realization, I see what you're trying to do y'all. We'll put another four hundred carries on me use me up and say now we good he's now that's not going to happen. So I'm gonna sit this whole year up. If they got too many boys is coming out of that locker room. They're not very United team or not because one one okay, we're going to stay. We're gonna stay in the locker room. We not coming out with the anthem coaches, go standard. Then we got a guy that the end of the tunnel guys need to see the flag. So there's a lot going on. But until Mike Tomlin sister temper. In this room say this is how we're going to do. This is not how we're going to do it. You're going to have these little fractions, you'll have guys speaking out in is not conducive for you to have a winning organization. You win a few games here there, but they vastly under she'd they're one of the most disappointing team and all of football. So I'm going to ask James a question just to be fair to Mike Tomlin. And I'm not saying this is the case, but you feel like you still have any lingering bitterness toward Mike on the way they handled your departure from Pittsburgh, I asked where released like I say early in the year, and they didn't give that to him guy. If they gave me my release early in the year. I'll probably would have never been in New England because there were times I remember that I read you showed up, and you didn't even know that you weren't dressing that game. It was it was times where I practice all week and show up and I'm thinking I'm going to be dressed in the locker. Yeah. So now that said as many times as I've said on the show I love Mike Tomlin from a distance. And if I could play in the NFL I'd wanna play for that guy. But I don't know him inside the locker room, and I'm with you. And both the you. He does not have control of his football team in shows on the football field occasionally in the lack of discipline and focus that they play with or without I should say because if you boil down what's wrong again to your point there ranked fifteenth in points allowed that's got to be better. That's not steel curtain Pittsburgh defense this defense. And again it came alive against Brady, and it came alive a little bit against the saints. I thought played pretty well, those two games, but you don't have anything to show for it. Because you're eight six and one, and you're just clinging to the last life that you have the playoff wise four or five you have you've lost four or five games. And yet in those four those last five games, you went to the fourth quarter and all five of them tied or leading and you lost four or five. Okay. That somebody's got to pay for that. A lot of times you give the game away because there are minus ten internal ratio..

Everybody knows that as here you supposed to start a show. You highlight Ramar discussion about Bobby? Here's our highlight. Tomlin is part of the problem. Pittsburgh, he's not the entire problem. He's just part of it. If the Steelers move on from him, I won't object. They lost their best running back franchise running back who was number two receiver then lose the backup who was amazing himself. And now they're down to a one dimensional attack, which is focused on been Rothberg Antonio Brown. But Mike Tomlin to me not the issue. A lot more issues on his roster than that coach. All right. Uncle Jimmy myself. And I disagreed about Mike Tomlin. I think he's part of the problem ourselves doesn't think is what you're take. Once again, you don't know what the hell you talking about getting data get him. First of all, let me back in nineteen Ninety-two, Robin hedge great late, great, comedian came up with the movie and the movie talked about this right here. Remember it? Robin Hood's movie starring Ben Rothlisberger. Antonio brown. Did you do Smith's ice d? Libby on Bill is the runaway. Let away keys man to how that is. You know, what they are? They know what they don't die. They don't I'm trying to get the coach Dyson anybody. Anybody would love to coach the Steelers JC kids, you member kids writer, remember small. Die. They multiply. When you were running blaming my time like them his kids. His. Keys, man. This is as bad as kids you want to sit up in Kliptown. The organization is the one they lead the vasectomy to wanna hire the bad ass. Kids who've listens. The Steelers hired Tomlin to deal with and supervise those kids. That's the job. Yeah. You can't control babe as kids. They grant ask kids wanna go bad ass. Okay. Look at my third wife X Y make Desa had full bands kids from some previous merges not do. What not not do it? Ask for no reason. I decided I'm gonna take them to six flags Saint Louis. God no angle put him on airplane. They got design. They try to snob. But I got ta da. We made this is key. We don't die. We multiply what a house, you know, doodoo Smith size got doing this time. This. You put no blame on Mike Tomlin. None hell to know. No, they need to give him some more money for dealing with all the bad ass kids. So you ain't got no kids myself. I come every time something go wrong. They wanna blame the parents. I got an idea while out bad ass kids. I got an idea got problems in your own put one kids out put that big fat one with the beard out outage about forty put him out to house Trump with two kids who that fat when the forty ALPHA's Berger put him out today. I'm house I trouble with kids. We gotta give approval ratings for Mike Tomlin. I'm dropping like Tomlin from a sixty eight. I believe to a sixty five or did I previously had him any fourteen in job performance? I now have you met at twelve all time greatest goes from eighteen to seventeen character authenticity. Stay the same. I have my comment at a sixty year old heart evaluator, Mike Tomlin as a code right now. They're missing the playoffs myself as a role player. It's about right now right now, he's still all star coats, look at what I had to drop them job of forms. Obviously the Pittsburgh Steelers on the brink of not being in the playoffs. But still tremendous in terms of who he is status character authenticity. Second most wins behind Bellichik even the Super Bowl champion coaching. That's just a role player. Coach hate to see what the sorry coaches are agreed spiel sorry. A lot of right missing layoffs myself. Everybody..

"Well, one at night before this is what we're gonna do come day of will I need to see the flag? Well, we need to be in the tunnel coaches need to be on the sidelines, so they're not as United. Yup. And they would have you believe now there is funny how they've you a. b. as being not selfish. And if you lay on is being self, I'm like, hold on. Wait a minute. Aby got his money. He got along complaining about the amount of catches. He is not like he's any contract. You skip, he needs his catches because they were Antonio, you had a down year. So we. We can't give you what you you had one of those years. He can't go to them and say that they gave him his money and he's still unhappy. I, they mad at lady onto my, he's selfish. He's not thinking about the team. Antonio Brown, walking down the sideline. He's getting, you know. His position coaches trying to talk to him off the coordinator trying to talk to him and he's walking up who do they who you any Tony Brian thinking about? Is he thinking about a team or evening about his own individuals dance, yeah. Yeah. You know, I don't get it, but I tell you what get look at their schedule. I don't see a whole lot of wins getting on their their supremely talented offensively, but defensively they're challenged and they're gonna play teams that offensively they can go get thirty five forty on your to drop over Hatton. But Mike Tomlin has to better responsibility this because he's allowed this to fester and now Antonio Brown. You got hill on your hands skill because he knows what he is, and he knows he hasn't been called to the carpet by head coach. And so he's going to keep it going. Mike Tomlin is the sole person responsible for this is his job. So do you figure Antonio going to outlast Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh, you know, skip in fifty years. They've had three head coaches. They normally allow the, hey, the normally allowed to head coaches to go when they want. But at the end of the day, they given Mike Tomlin a lot as far as offensively you look at what they have, they should be better than what they are. They should have one more than what they have. I agree. You got hall of fame coat a hall of fame wide receiver, but tension hall of fame running back. And with this unit, you don't even have a Super Bowl appearance on your resume. This will be a epic failure if they don't get to win the Super Bowl with this talent on this roster, had his true speaking of the at the end of the day. I think we're getting to the end of the day of Mike Tomlin's run in Pittsburgh, and it's been mostly a great run. And this is hard for me to talk about because I am a big Mike Tomlin fan and the iron. This is I don't know how many times on television. I've said if I played the NFL I would wanna play for that guy because every time I hear in speak after a game on television before game. Whenever I come up out of my chair excites me, I would wanna play for him, but I might be not damning with faint praise but damning with the wrong praise because maybe that's why he's having a hard time because I'm gonna point out that our guy, James Harrison who obviously played a mini a year for Mike Tomlin sat right there right there in said, he needs to be more disciplined that he played for briefly, coach bell, check and regimented. It's structured. There's a fear factor. They when he walks in the locker room or through the locker room, you're look inside was like what I do. Right. What did the great Terry Bradshaw say about Mike Tomlin? He talked about his guy Chuck Noll who was to quote Terry, a tough soccer and Terry said he was afraid of Chuck knoll. And I think from a distance, he's not. Afraid of Mike Tomlin that he thinks he's not disciplined enough as far as maintaining control of the locker room..
