"Thirty games obviously sleep through no fault of his own you don't WanNa Miss the final eighteen yes hi in a pennant race for your MVP candidacy but as it is bellinger is the only person who will pass him in Fan Rafts War and Martin might pass him or might not but otherwise only will be ahead of him and if you were to use win probability added he would have case to be better than than bellinger. He's by far the number one win probability added in baseball he's about to wins ahead of bellinger and he's only probably he will probably not be two wins behind him in war although he might in on Reverend so so there's there is a case for him. There's a case for debating that to award probably even still but yeah yeah and it's kind of incredible that the brewers are in it at this point because they've had a bunch of injuries issues but also they've been outscored by twenty seven runs as we speak right now and they have been very successful in one run games uh-huh and one in to run games and they've won a whole lot of those and that has kind of kept them in it so it's not really a great team as is currently constituted and yeah losing out hurts them a lot not just brewers fans but also all baseball fans because really he was probably the the player who was Achna stick of team loyalty like he was probably the most compelling player down the stretch right now just the combination of the award chase and the fifty thirty and where the brewers are in the race. He was probably the guy who should have been at the top of everyone's game-changer your list so it's a big book. The man managed to slip and slide naked without hurting himself. Yeah I thought he was invincible. One other thing I wanted to bring up there's been a personal catcher controversy in the past week and it seems like we've gone awhile without one of those not that they were ever extremely common but it seemed almost like a throwback to have some disagreements and maybe even some acrimony. Nonni over who is throwing to this is obviously Noah syndergaard and the mets and it was reported as syndergaard being upset even looted. I think the New York Post said about being forced to work with Wilson Ramos who he has not had as much success with the season the the team has done just fine win syndergaard throws to Ramos but rescinded card has not done nearly as well as he has done during two other catchers particularly to must neto and and so it was reported that syndergaard was upset about having to work with Ramos and Mickey callaway and Brodie van Wagon. Were just Kinda like well. You've got to suck it up because Wilson Ramos is really good hitter cow wave and said that Ramos has been the best hitter in baseball over the past month and a half which seems like quite an in exaggeration but he has been very good he was great in August and so it's kind of this interesting question that always comes up with personal catchers which is what's your obligation as a player and what is actually best for the team so Calloway said that when Jacob Degrom uh-huh wanted to work with a personal catcher last year that he was okay with that because the mets weren't really in it and Graham was chasing this historic works season and going after the cy young word so that sort of took precedence over the team results whereas now because the mets are still sort of in this wild card race he saying that Noah syndergaard just SORTA has to live with it and if you're Noah syndergaard than maybe you WanNa put the team I and you care more about the team winning than the results and maybe Wilson Ramos his bat outweighs to US Neto glove but also maybe you think think about this not selflessly but selflessly and you think well. I'm actually so much better when I'm throwing through Tomas Neo that this is the best thing for the team and the team mm-hmm is wrong about this and of course there's all sorts of other stuff here where Brody Van Wagon in gave Wilson Ramos his contract and he had encouraged courage Jacob degrom to try to work with Devon Morocco because he was representing dicap- to grab at the time so it's another vestige of that strange former agent agent storyline but I'm always kind of curious about this of course it goes back to maybe Greg Maddux working with a personal catcher or or even the days of Mike Napoli in Jeff Matheson just trying to weigh these separate skills because Sundergaard is right that Neto is the superior defensive offensive catcher. The numbers are pretty clear. If you look at baseball perspective he does the better framer us the better thrower and Ramos ranks pretty low on the leaderboard for catcher defense. NATO ranks pretty high so he's not imagining things and that's even going beyond what syndergaards probably talking about which is the symbiotic relationship chip in the personal catcher kind of melting of mines. Yeah I feel like you. If you're a star pitcher and you want to have a personal catcher and you frame it as like you want you just want to have a catcher who is more dedicated to you and your more dedicated to him and just it's. It's not about picking one over the other. It's more about having that dedicated relationship where you can really. I don't now bond you know meld together. I've you like that usually goes well. It doesn't usually go well when it framed as I have a teammate and I just don't really like working with him not that. I don't know not that I would know who's to blame in that relationship or whether syndergaard is is is right about his performance suffering or or anything like that. It just usually doesn't really go as well and so just the messaging here isn't ideal. It's more gets kind of message. Yes in that sense like so Zach Frankie for instance last year. Zach Cranky started thirty three games games and all thirty three of them were started by Jeff. Mathis and Jeff Athas only started. I think twenty eight other games the whole year and I don't think that was very disruptive. Have I never heard that. Green tea like didn't like the diamondbacks other catcher who what the time was was what Alex Avila. It was always just like you know he. He likes to have a catcher. Who's got a little bit more attention for him on him? They were together and that's all it is and they made it at work it. Wasn't you know you're going to have a backup catcher who starts one or two games a week and so you just put on that schedule and I don't know it feels like when the the way that this story came out though it is instantly like a tabloid story instead of a baseball story and it feels like the messaging of it. You don't have to try that hard. I wouldn't think to be a little bit more diplomatic about it I will I will. I will note that when Syndergaard is pitching to Rama. She has a better strike outrage. He he has a better walk rate and he does not allow any more stolen bases than when Tomas Nido catches now he does allow higher. Bab and he has a lot more home runs and maybe see that's Wilson Ramos's fault. I'm not saying that it is not but I don't know I don't know it. Just feels feels like it's always the mets. It usually is and to be fair. Syndergaard didn't dispute that this conversation happened but did dispute the characterization of he portrayed it as a more diplomatic and civil conversation of course he probably would say that even if if it wasn't one so I don't know exactly what was said but yeah. It's better if this sort of thing does not come out of course in his settled behind closed doors. I and I can understand I can imagine that there are probably players who form an attachment that is unnecessary necessarily like maybe they just become comfortable working with a certain guy and they kind of have tunnel vision and they're looking at how they feel and not how it impacts the rest of the team and maybe they just imprint on a certain guy because they happen to have a good game with this guy and a bad game with the other guy and they think inquiry. I can work well with this guy and I can't work with that guy and really it's just small sample and they're being fooled by something we all do things like that where we draw hasty conclusions based on some positive or negative experience that we had were something and so if you're the manager or your the GM maybe it can be your job to take the bigger view and save. Don't form your impression. Don't decide based on this. It's so subject to random. I'm very ation and yet if you are really feeling uncomfortable working with a guy then at a certain point. Maybe it does impact your performance even even if it wouldn't have otherwise once you decide that it probably will that you can't work with this guy. Then it's a self fulfilling prophecy and maybe that guy is feelings are ruffled and he doesn't like working with you. I could imagine catcher's not wanting to work with syndergaard because he allows a lot of stolen basis it through no fault of the catcher so maybe catchers have personal pitchers. They don't Wanna work with Noah syndergaard but yeah I I'm sure that there are times times when if we could run the math and there's just really no way to do it because we can look at your as with this guy and that guy maybe if it's a multi season sample you can have a little more confidence in you can look at components instead of just the big results but it's hard to know. I know it's hard to say statistically speaking that this is the optimal pairing because there's just a lot you kind of have to either disbelievers believer take on faith when it comes to the pitcher catcher relationship and so if syndergaard says he works so much better with the sky. Maybe it's just a comfort thing like maybe he's not actually better but he just enjoys it more he just. I don't know he likes talking to that guy more or he has the impression that he gets along with this guy better but really the results wouldn't actually be that different so I'm sympathetic but yet you you kind of want to I guess defer to your really good starters if you can if you have someone who is actually good at defense and his employed by your team for that reason to begin with and ideally of course you want to keep this thing quiet tend to settle it not in the York Post Sean Conroy Sean Conroy at this moment stompers. I asked one time if he likes if he had a personal catcher. He likes having a personal catcher if he believes in the value of personal catcher. He said he he really liked having a personal catcher. He just didn't care who it was. He was satisfied with any catcher that he he ever had but he wanted to be the same face behind the plate every every game and where we're. I'm sympathetic with with Syndergaard and with a lot of catchers is that you don't often have the same face behind the plate if you're lucky you're drafted by the cardinals finals in and then you do by syndergaard in his short career. He's basically played like four seasons. He's had he's thrown the nine different different catchers. You're just not gonNA get the familiarity that I think pitchers would prefer from that. Maybe you luck out and maybe you realized immediately that You you know Tomas Nido is your soul mate and in fact that's who you WanNa lock in with and then it can be frustrating that that player is not the primary catcher and that particularly as the in the stretch run when everybody's asked to do a little bit more and Romo's being the primary catcher was asked to do a little bit more by playing every day now all of a sudden you don't have your familiar millea face back there but the larger challenge of just having to adapt to a new catcher in this in this relationship that pitchers value a great deal and think matters. It's tough in in an era where players move around a lot. Where teams are you know trying to churn through costs controlled pre our players or or or whatever the case may be and you just you're dealing with three catchers every year and then the next year three catchers Yup alright emails emails sure all right well I sort of teased this one last time and since we're on the subject of mets pitchers guests will start here. This is from David any idea what the hell is up with. Edwin Diaz has any pitcher ever been so good and so bad at the same time it seems like it should be impossible to strikeout fifteen and a half batters per nine innings and still have terrible results but he's found a way he has the minus of Peter Lambert and the exit minus of Max Sir. Is this just small simple size and bad luck or is there some way he's breaking some of these metrics and I'll just to set this up. Uh Little Bit I will quote something at Wendy. S said after one of his recent blowups this is of course deposed mets closer at Wendy. S Diaz said I think it's been a lot of bad luck. Sometimes I leave pitches over the plate and they just pop out and get outs but it's just been a little bit of bad luck but I go out there every time and just try to get out because I know my stuff is pretty good..

"To win I can't even bill that is the. the slug it out between trout lemay here because the Jensen doors seven September. you're telling us what would say you're killing me baby. nice RB I yes go to get him going yeah isn't that an extra base hit in like for like five six seven games help me out although it and you see Alonso Castro for home runs I don't know if your home or last night you had to yesterday for P. he's been banged up a little bit more lately trout house but then it's been held out a couple timelines of and he's hot on the trail to judge for them. Lou Lou home run record. two things number one. think about this for a second after everything that has gone on this year. with one to Yankee outfield situation is. there is a very real chance Clint Frazier could be on the postseason roster hi Chet's I think it's a lot I I know I just I didn't even want to call it that yeah just because of how bad that why you're locking everything up all the time. get along I don't want to lock that out because I can't stand point. self. due to you. he handled himself during the whole thing I mean we got sent down I had heard that his agent actually holding Yankee front office. Brian Cashman and said. you sure you want to do this we get a chance to rethink it you just don't get him he's a superstar you guys are recognizing the superstars a superstar far before we all know it he just wants a superstar trip he does want to respect with that being said man guarding it to the party is still ball and make you ladies are literally a. the plane center field what's the superstar treatment you get in Scranton because I've been a couple times well one. no one you don't stand in line at golden corral to to you get you get your full delivered to you you don't have to go up to the to the buffet and get it they just bring somebody turns into well it's not over eats in Scranton well I checked in I don't think so I don't think so I got to tell you. I read this stuff from Joel Sherman yesterday about Syndergaard and I just I want to throw whatever I could find up against a wall buttons but to respect on his name I'm not gonna put any respect on saying I'm not not in one bit because no Syndergaard is such a freaking baby and toured this is why you keep hearing your name in trade rumors this is why you will not be in New York met next season I don't think there's any chance he'll be in New York map next season now he is not alone in this because I broke even wagon and has enabled this when he was on the other side and he did it last year with the grime telling ME I am maybe you should insist on ms Rocco the Mets need to score runs the message for lunch I understand the Wilson Rameau's is not your favorite catcher and doesn't frame it like you want and doesn't call the game like you want but I can't take it when I read this passage from Jill Sherman's article Syndergaard holds no personal animus toward well almost he sees there's simply that's what helps him. best and thus what he views is best for the team Bravo hang on but senator Byrd feels neither one Rivera call a better game than normal should help them defend the running game better and better eight in getting the blow strikes called hi nola you know what stop complaining you can do a better job on a slide step to cut down on the running game you are the one with the freakin baseball in your hands to decide what you want to throw but wait I forgot you didn't want to do that you didn't want to call your own game that was part of the problem with Dave island you have your agents call and complain about Dave and wanting you to call your own games and that was part of the reason that there was a disconnect there okay he's called Phil Reeves done a nice job you continue to complain about this meanwhile you know what the record is one way almost catches Noah Syndergaard verses when he does it for the Mets if you were really true we are looking for what's best for the team when Ross catches their written six when he doesn't even six what one thing that's different part the one D. R. A. well no the one the other thing that's different is the amount of runs the score the score they have scored twenty six more wins in the starts that Rommel's has made behind the plate for Syndergaard and and you might say well that's just coincidence actually it's not because Rameau's himself in his time catching nor Syndergaard I went back and looked is responsible for twenty six one offered so believe himself they want somebody to be able to go out and hit to score runs for you which we know what you are in the top ten in the National League in one support this season I don't get it your bullpen is still good time for one you only have ten wins it is time to just not all. and go. doesn't matter. stop complaining do your job and by the way your not Jacob to grow. can make this kind of a call you are not Jacob. we we have a hundred and we give him a check of the ground treatment and to his point what comes first the chicken or eight okay does Rommel's have to score more points because he's call number or worse games. I do live in about. in his hand yeah no responsibility. on this at all because it sounds like to me his argument as well every time he catches me I'd sock it's all his fault his hearing is over. and we've seen it he's in his ear are his ERA when when rebels catches it's five when is anybody else need. is to place two point four five is also. why is all of that. because what what what we hear the complaints were before wasn't just send a guarded in one case it was the ground of the the pictures as well it kind of down because right away yeah but what I'm saying is you still want me to get the wind you want the guy that stole the ball to be comfortable in is because they say their Rommel's because he's so big he won't call certain pitches any so big yet to set up early because the big big burly guy so he said nothing he's maybe tipping the the the attention I was. coming through find a few weeks ago when he was seven shutout innings to win yeah but you but you can't deny the error rate is a drastic difference that's almost three here's what I want to point out there scoring more runs when he's Rommel's who's on hitting streak right but maybe. king was he but at two we are in no one has put some crummy games were Thomas needle behind the plate it's not like it's been completely one sided and I know what do you already says why is all of that on him the guy who throws the ball as Ron Darling said last night the guy with the ball in his hand is ultimately responsible for the pitch to the throne okay right what a great point but is there also not something about just putting your players in the best position to succeed we set up here yesterday and we tried it both the jets and the giants coaching staff for not putting their players in the best possible position to succeed right so I'll take this last start for example when Noah Syndergaard and this is what seem like kind of pushed him over the edge you know where he ended up going in and talking to Brody and talking to the Mets brass where he thought you have against the Phillies you'd have Rommel's catch Friday night and Saturday night Syndergaard be a day game on Sunday so he would get needle because you're gonna have Wilson almost two night games in a day game after for some reason they decide to put a needle in Saturday night with Marcus Stroman and that to me is like poking the bear a little bit because you didn't have to do that you know you could had Rameau's on Friday night and Saturday night and then and then given Syndergaard needle it's not like you're you're not just calling to the player that. if you need. you're telling him I'm more important and Marcus Stroman everybody will get don't know we don't know Stroman has an issue with Rommel's we know that Syndergaard does and that his preference is Tomas neo so why not if it's already lining up that way why not give the player that is what he wants and that point I don't think your seating so much control to be you're you're losing control of your club house or whatever because you know that the players are now running everything I don't think that's it that that's not this issue at all it seemed like it was almost intentional to go out there and not give Syndergaard the guy that he walks but Chris because that's why I agree with you that Senna gar probably won't be on here because if if the it's gonna be so frustrated for sending our right. the red wagon work for him last year I come to you express a concern in you do nothing about it then as telling me it it does tell me that you know really value what I say but you know the intimate conversations that we've had about certain changes and stuff in years past and you know how we made you will effect the way he feels as far as being confident on a mile you should know better by being his forays into Brody's doing nothing a body and is is specially when you could have set line something up where I was and still is okay here's the bigger discussion board that you make excellent point on this hold up in the beginning by relying on going to get an offense of catcher as opposed to getting all they're offering to players that can support a bat in the lineup and also allow you to have purely defensive catcher forget a good combination like ground all right well I I mean I think this is been an issue for the beginning of the season a what I always advocate for I don't think that it's such a terrible thing and bar I don't know you think about this but I think it's so terrible when you have your team set up in the way that the Mets are set up which is that if all things go well duh grommet Syndergaard picture to a World Series right that's the best case scenario for the Mets they've pulled they built this team around pitching I don't think it's such a terrible thing when you have a glaring holy catcher to go to yours too aces we thought that it's not too warm and a decent insurer. one and a decent picture one treated differently..

"Cruise control and eight strikeouts in a row obviously dominating and had great stuff but once he threw twenty nine pitches in the first inning he was never gonna get soup pursue per deep into this game and it was freezing out there so it certain point he just going to have to be lifted anyway so it's pitch count was already getting up there and getting high and we get to the fifth inning the bottom of this and there's two on two out runner on second and third to our and the catcher spot in the order is coming up and it's the it's the rookie just barely called up tomas nido and mickey callaway decides to pinch hit for tomas neo and made it doesn't sound like a big deal he brings in jay bruce off the bench pence pinch hits tomasz neto with the pitcher spot in noah syndergaard coming up next and the problem there is if you're the brewers what do you do the pictures on deck and they're bringing up jay bruce with runners on second and third no one nothing game walk him intentionally right takes about out of his hands load the basis bring the pitcher up dare the mets take syndergaard who very you know pitching really well in this game if you're the brewers to win win they either have to take syndergaard out which he would be happy with or the and that means they're bringing in another pinch hitter and on a day like this you're you're getting guys off their bench so callaway does that he brings in jay bruce where they do they walk him intentionally brings up yard and callaway round of them pinch hitting for syndergaard no one nothing game he lets the pitcher hit syndergaard makes it out of course and of course it's not like he he's not potentially can't hit but it's a pitcher and he ended up in a situation where he leaves syndergaard in there he goes back out with a high pitch count gets one out gives up a base hit and gets pulled and if you're only gonna let him if he was going to be on such a short least you're only going to let him pitch the two batters in the next inning.
