"That's rocket money dot com slash kind of funny. Dot com slash kind of funny. Number three on the roper report, Microsoft's Xbox chief thinks losing the Xbox One generation was, quote, the worst generation to lose. This is Tom Warren at the verge. It's been a rough couple of weeks for Xbox. That's had fans questioning the state of Microsoft's console gaming business. First, there was the news of a 30% drop in Xbox hardware revenue, followed by the CMA's decision to block Microsoft's giant $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. And topped off by redfall launching earlier this week to a very lukewarm reception. When you combine all of this with a quiet year of Xbox releases in 2022, Xbox fans are wondering when Microsoft is going to deliver a slew of triple-A games like we saw with the Xbox 360 generation. Quote, we're not in the business of out console and Sony or out constantly Nintendo says Xbox chief Phil Spencer and in an interview with kind of funny games. He continues, quote, I see the commentary that if you just build great games, everything will turn around. It's just not true that if we go off and build great games, all of a sudden, you're gonna see console share shift in some dramatic way. We lost the worst generation to lose in the Xbox One generation, where everybody built their digital library of games. We want our Xbox community to feel awesome. But this idea that if we just focused more on great games on our console, that somehow people are going to win the console race doesn't really lay into what people into the reality of most people. There is no world where star field is an 11 out of ten and people start selling their PS5s. That's not going to happen end quote. Greg, this was a wild moment. This is one of those moments where she said they were third place. Yes. I was like, damn. That was a wild one because it's so true and it's eye opening to think about because I've never thought about that, but yeah, when I started when we all started building our digital library was during that age right there and that's where you kind of cemented yourself because perfect example now I have hundreds of games that I have purchased with my hard earned money over on the Xbox platform. It is very difficult the idea of thinking, I'm going to throw all that away or move on to something different and leave those behind. We're in this new age where things are being carried with you. You own them now and it's not as simple as just take this and put it in the game disk anymore. It is, oh, that is mine. And I own that and carrying it over. They lost that generation massively, and now we're here where it's like, oh yeah, you're way far behind now, which is tough to think about. Yeah, you know, he talked around these quotes a lot that I enjoyed where he was talking about, yeah, you know, the days of buying the new console and starting fresh with your SNES or genesis or whatever, are gone, right? There was also the point of like, you know, he's talking about the fact that games like Fortnite and Roblox, you know, they continue on from last generation. So even that it is, okay, cool. Backlogs there is whatever the law. It is also this thing of just sticking with the same experiences and the same things and of course, as we've gotten used to a PlayStation 4 pro, these iterative consoles, even the PS5, even the Xbox Series X, they're just iterations on what you already had as you expand the platform. And I thought it was fascinating to hear, let alone directly call out, right? The fact that it was like, oh yeah, this was the worst generation to lose. I was like, damn, yeah, I guess I never thought of it that way in terms of like it was everybody was starting to go. And again, you talk about the different in messaging of PlayStation 4 verse Xbox One at launch there, right? And it was the PS4 here's how you share games used games yet. Not in that one, a lot of people and a lot of mind sharing them to a specific spot. Yeah, that was a very wild quote, especially because that came off the back of, hey, a lot of the Xbox console best friends out there and community are feeling like second rate citizens, right? They feel like you have moved on to an ecosystem where PCs at the forefront cloud gaming and do we still have faith that you want to continue to make these consoles, right? Why am I still here? If I could be worried that you could say, hey, we're not in the console market anymore. You can just play the game off the television, right? And so now you start to worry, what are we still doing here, right? And they lost the biggest generation, like you said, because now when you look at it, I could still have my PlayStation with that big library. I'll give you $15 a month and I'll just play on my television through the cloud if I want to play some sort of exclusive. What's the reason for doing this? Paris Lilly has joined my co host on the kind of funny ex cast. I know he wants to chime in. You guys are on all the it's like you guys just won the championship last night and now you're back at school. You're all back at school. You're varsity jackets. Pear is great work yesterday. Oh, thank you. And hearing what you're just saying right now, I think that was the one thing that I wish we had more time to follow up on. Because I even had it written down that I hear a lot of people think that the console player is now second class citizen for Xbox and there are moving on to cloud in PC and these other handheld devices. It's no longer about the console. Clearly, that's not the case. We know that's not the case. There's no way they're abandoning what is their biggest market. And I think Phil was just being honest when he talked about, look, I don't, if starfield could be an 11 out of ten, and that's not going to allow them to catch up with PlayStation in this generation because they did so much damage in the past generation and that was the start of the digital age to everything that Mike was just talking about as far as if I already have so many of my games invest in this ecosystem. I'm not going to ban that anytime soon. And I think I forget who said this on Twitter, I saw this morning, but the whole point that Microsoft, that Xbox needs to do, don't worry about the competition, don't worry about how many hardware sales that they have right now. Make great games. Zero point blank. It's that simple. Make great game. Starfield, great. Hellblade to be great. If I would be great, fable be great, perfect art, be great. If you get because here's the difference between Xbox and PlayStation right now. PlayStation has been consistent since about 2014 with their titles, where I know every year I can expect something pretty darn good from PlayStation. Xbox is not done that. And we thought this was a generation that was going to start doing that and here we are three years in. And we got redfall. Can't do that. You can not say, here's the starting point of us charging you $70 for our next gen only games and we give you redfall. They would have been better off delaying that game to 2024 versus putting it out right now. They'd have been better off taking the heat of another delay and having starfield assuming it's great be the first great next gen only $70 game for them versus it being redfall because now we got the podcast that we got yesterday where instead of us having a fun conversation about Xbox and its future, we had to talk about the mistakes of what redfall was. And that's

"Maybe not yet. Anyway, we got to take a break and then we're going to come back and talk about Microsoft's many adventures in AI. We'll be right back. Welcome back. One of the questions I'm personally most interested in in tech right now is what is AI actually good for. We've talked a ton about GPT four and chat GPT and Bing and Bard, but a lot of the things that we talk about are neat novelties, or they're glimpses at a far out future for when these products get a lot better. But the truth is AI is much more than chatbots. And Microsoft is being much more aggressive than most. In figuring out how exactly to put AI into all of its products. The verge's Tom Warren has been writing about and testing as much of it as he can get his hands on over the last several months. So he's here to tell us how AI is going to change the way we do everything. At least the way Microsoft sees it. Hi, Tom. Hello. Welcome back. It's been a while. Yeah, it has. There's a lot happening right now. This is why I wanted to do this because it feels like Bing has gotten tons of coverage and we've talked about it a lot and it's really interesting, but if the question is, what is AI actually good for? I feel like it's all the other stuff that Microsoft has done, which we have not talked enough about. Yeah, that's the promising stuff. The search engine stuff is cool, but having it everywhere is cooler. Okay, so let's start with co-pilot, which I think is probably the sort of biggest version of what Microsoft is thinking about here. And I was reading a bunch of stories and realized I have a hard trouble figuring out exactly what co-pilot is. It's kind of a chat bot, but it's not totally a chat bot. It's different things in different apps, but it's kind of one thing like frame co-pilot for me. What is this thing? Yeah, so it's essentially think of like clippy or like you all the promises of Cortana. It's like basically an assistant. So a virtual assistant. So yes, it can spring up and be a chatbot and you can converse with it and stuff. But it can also just sort of magically appear almost with AI magic. It documents. Say you highlight a paragraph and you're like, I want to rewrite that or it reread it or whatever. Then it will just sort of hint in a way that you know you goof up and you get a typo and word comes along and underlines it. That sort of thing. It will just sort of gently appear and be like, I can rewrite this for you. So that's kind of the interesting way that Coke pilot works. So you can say create a document create a PowerPoint, create an excel based on a bunch of prompts, or you can drag a file into a PowerPoint or a word file. And then based on that, all that text it will generate a bunch of slides. So you can do all that sort of stuff. But I think the interesting part is where it just shows up or in excel. Let's say it does something like you say, here's a bunch of data. The financial earnings for this company, the past 6 months, put it into a table or pivot table or whatever. Or something you don't really know how to do. It will then tell you how it did it. And show you how to do it. So it's like training you as well. So it's insistent, it's also a tutor, I guess, as well. So there's a bunch to it, really. That's actually a really clever, because I think one of the things I was looking at as I was reading your story is like the sort of famous office problem over the years is that office is this like hideous mishmash of menus because there's so much that all these apps can do that it's impossible to figure out how they work and Microsoft is like we made the ribbon better and everybody's like all my buttons are gone and it's just it's an impossible problem and it feels like if they can get this right like there's somebody at Microsoft being like we can finally get rid of the ribbon, right? Like that's the what's happening here. It's the complexity of the interface right and just excels the worst for this because it's just like you can open it up and it looks relatively simple but the stuff you can do with it. The difference between me using excel and some power user is like massive. And it's just reducing that complexity and making it more available to people and just easier to use. I think that's kind of like half the story behind co-pilot and the other half is like, yeah, you can chat to this thing, have a back and forth, get it to do stuff and you could say to it. Like you would in chat GPT really and being and stuff. You could say right this and you could prompt it afterwards to tweak it and make it better or make it into a list and all that sort of basic stuff. But it's really interesting where it takes that complexity out of office apps and then just surfaces it in really interesting ways. And I think they're really at the beginning of that. So there's not a ton of reasonable yet. So I was trying to get that out of them. Where is this heading? But I think for me, it's like it sounds like it's just going to be the virtual assistant they've always promised or the beginnings of it at least. Because they said that Cortana would do this stuff, right? Well, that's part of what I think is so interesting here because you go back and you mentioned clippy and there's Cortana and there's like one of two things is happening here. Either Microsoft has been right all along and finally the technology is starting to catch up to kind of this thing that they want to build or Microsoft has been wrong all along and just refuses to acknowledge that this sucks and nobody wants it and clippy was either a great idea that was too early. Cortana was either a great idea that was too early or a total disaster of an idea. And this feels like the same, like why can't Microsoft let go of this idea? They just all have an assistant, don't they? I guess so. It's kind of interesting because obviously clippy was it was interesting at the time but then it got annoying because it would pop up when you didn't want it to and that was obviously the meme and then Cortana was like supposed to be this thing that would do everything for you and it just failed over. And I think Satya Nadella recently said it was dumb as a rock, right? And all of them Alexa and the

"That's fucking crazy. Dude, this is the gauntlet being thrown. This is absolutely wild. This is Microsoft playing freaking ten D chess here, where they're just like, well, we just need to get what we want. It's not about what you want. We don't really care what you want. As long as we get what we want, we'll give you, we'll give you stuff. Yeah, it's cute. You can have that. What do you think? What do you think PlayStations looking at this and thinking? Like, do you think it's like that meme with the guy sweating looking at the two buttons? That's like Call of Duty on PS plus for ten years, or let Xbox have. Do you think they're struggling with they must be? And so here's the thing. This is fun to talk about because I think that it is the strategy versus tactics type situation where you look at it and this is a huge win, right? Great. It's a win for the gamers out there. Of course. For sure. But for Sony, think about how many copies of Call of Duty sells every year, at $70, right? The majority of them are on PlayStation. They'd be losing a lot of money. Oh yeah. By not doing that. By not having that. Having said that, we've seen Xbox first party games, and even third party games that come to game pass still sell well, outside of game pass. So maybe it's not the worst strategy, but you need to kind of figure out the dollar signs because it has to add up. It is actual math here. The other side to this is, PlayStation plus is not a game pass competitor. That's not Sony's mindset. They look at it more as a subscription service where they have some additive things for people to enjoy, whereas it is the strategy for Xbox. So having such a major win like Call of Duty for a quote unquote is part of the service would be such a major win in bolster the value of PlayStation plus. I just don't think that that is in line with PlayStation strategy. Do you think that's Microsoft being like they're not going to take it? Like this doesn't matter as much to them because of PlayStation's I think so. I think that that's the thing is as good as this sounds and as wild as this deal is, I think that strategically it might be not the best option in terms of making money for PlayStation. And on top of that, PlayStation still are going to fight this because they're like, they still, it's more than just call it duty that they don't want Xbox to have on the Activision front, right? Call of Duty is just probably the biggest aspect of that that will directly affect PlayStation. But there are still dozens of other incredibly popular IP. The 40 chess here is incredible to watch it because Microsoft confirming this, right? Microsoft being like, yeah, this is what it is. I think says a lot in terms of the ball really is in PlayStation's core in terms of how they want to play with this because on the Microsoft side on the Xbox side, it's a win, right? On the audience side, no matter who you are, I would say this is a win, right? If you're in the PlayStation audience, yeah, you want Call of Duty in PlayStation plus like day and date. Are you kidding me? That sounds like the best deal ever at the same offer that Xbox has. And if it's a first party title on Xbox, it's day one on game pass. Yeah. Wow. As PlayStation the company, you're like, oh shit. Microsoft's saying this out loud means our fans hear this, right? And our fans are probably going to ask for this. This feels like Microsoft applying pressure on all sides right now, which is very fascinating to see. Kind of an additional element to this, right? Brought up a tweet from Tom Warren talking about Tom tweeted out Sony is worried that Microsoft will sabotage Call of Duty for the PlayStation. Sony says it's concerned Microsoft and strategically degrade the quality and performance of Call of Duty on PlayStation. It goes into a deeper article talking about, oh yeah, when the game can get updated and be broken at the end of the day, like talking about nefarious things, Xbox can do to Call of Duty in order to make it play worse. But PlayStation, which is fucking wild. Again, you know, it's so funny. I was about to say, as we were talking about this story, this is the first time in months that we've had a story about this that I'm like, oh, this is fun to talk about. And there's some actual meat and on the other side. It's not just salacious bullshit, and then here we go. Here we go here it is. What's so stupid about this though is like or what's potentially very interesting about this is this implies that that happens currently or that that is something that could happen. This reminds me of like people that say that game IGN's reviews are bought. It's like, no, they're not. You fucking morons. But you can say it all you want, and then all of a sudden, people think that it's true because people are saying it, it's not fucking true. Yeah. And so it's like, that type of thing here where it's like, you could say that because yeah, that argument makes sense that yes, they would want to do that because they want to win and they want you to lose. But that's not how the market works. It makes sense if you're arguing it to regulators who aren't plugged into how the business works, right? And you're trying to make this top down. Hey, Microsoft is our competitor. Hey, they want to put the biggest game, the biggest game that releases every single year on our platform. They're going to sabotage it. That sounds like it makes sense naturally if you're on the outside looking in. When you're in, you're like, no, that's not how Microsoft isn't going to fuck up its highest revenue earning project. On the probably the platform is going to sell the most on to not get it to sell on that platform. That's not how it's going to work. No, God. But yeah, it's a stretch because they're really trying to make this argument. Yeah. I mean, you know what's hilarious about this too is like

"Gap because people like they think that games machines are an appliance. Right there. Even if the chips and some of the software is all the same as a general purpose computer, they're still like appliances and that they are supposed to do a job and then you're supposed to go away. Now I know there's people right there right now talking, they're like already they're in chat GPT being like write an angry email about my Windows PC that I play games on. I understand. I'm just saying that these devices. It's Tom Warren. Don't worry is doing this. What do they have lined up after that? So where do we go from there? I guess. We've got years of date of what meta is going to do. What do they do next after the quest three? So that's the quest line. That's the VR side of this, right? They're going to request three and then at some point there's a new quest pro they talked about. It's like a weird product. I think they got to figure that out. They didn't talk about that very much. The real stuff, this is like the battle with Apple that's coming. Is the AR glasses. So we are expecting some sort of mixed reality headset from Apple. This year. And we're expecting a virtual reality headset with cameras. It does pass through. That's mixed reality. Very expensive. $3000 not from Apple, developer tool. I think we're expecting it on WWC. This is the rumor. I don't know anything about this. This is what the people say. Meta is doing something very different. So in 2025, they're going to release a new set of smart glasses, like the like the ones they've already released with ray bans that just sort of have a screen in them. You can get notifications. So like what north was doing there for a while before they got sucked up by the Google machine? Yeah. I think the current ones, they just take photos. They don't do anything. It's got a camera in it. Yeah, the ray bans just take pictures and grats. You took some pictures with your when I think of things I trust Mark Zuckerberg with. It's putting a camera on my face that other people can't a 100%. So the next generation in 2025 will just have a screen in the lens and you'll be able to get notifications. They called it a viewfinder, you incoming text messages, scan QR codes, translate text from one thing to another. This is like everyone's favorite demo. And what's the other thing they're going to have? They're going to have a smartwatch that controls it using a neural interface. Which is tech that meta has had and they have demoed before. Addie is seen this technology she loves it. She thinks it's so cool. She was very worried when medicine last. They were going to get rid of this. But they're betting on it that instead of this thing right now where there's a bunch of cameras on a headset and you wave your hands around and do pinching motions, they're going to be able to put a smart watch on your wrist that will detect what your hand is doing, which is cool. They have the technology they've demoed it. Well, they were going to do the watch for a while, and then the watch got killed because everybody was like, nobody wants a Facebook branded smartwatch on their wrist. Even if it does do the neural stuff. The entire underlying thing here, not to make this whole thing about Apple, but the entire underlying thing here is Mark Zuckerberg knows that his company is at Apple's mercy, and we've seen it now several times. Like Apple pulls a security certificate, all of Facebook's internal system stopped working. Apple decides that once ad tracking transparency puts up the prompt, people say no, Facebook's business goes away. Mark Zuckerberg knows he's at the mercy of Apple. So if you want to make a smart watch and you're like, you can not reply to texts on it on your phone. You're done for. There's a reason there are no competitive smartwatches on iOS. Because Apple restricts all the good capabilities to its own platform. Fine, argue about that. Whether or not that's right, Elizabeth Warren is going to jump through a wall like the Kool-Aid man screaming around whatever. Mark Zuckerberg knows that this is the current state of things. He's got to build a new platform. And so building a smartwatch that's still dependent Apple. I don't think he's interested in that. So he's like, I'm going to build a headset. The headset you're going to live in the headset, your brain in a vat. You're in post on Instagram all day. I'm going to read your thoughts and we're going to move your laptop into the set set. And now I've got the smartwatch that is the control surface for the headset. Instead of doing camera based keyboard stuff or controller based stuff. I think this is the coolest idea they have. Because everything we know about Apple is that Apple is going to do the camera based pinch in the air situation. Now it's Apple, they will probably do a better job than what we've seen in the past. But that's what we know so far. So that is the coolest part. It's like, they're going to need these smart glasses. They're not AR glasses. Just sunglasses on the screen that do notifications. And then this control system. We'll have a viewfinder. They'll have that limited range that is already capable of another glasses. Because I think that's the thing that I keep getting focused on with AR. We all have our little bits where we're like, AR can't happen until this happens because there's so much stuff that has to happen first. And for me, I always get hung up on how are you going to use these? What's the technology behind the display? And in this case, it sounds like they're going to be using kind of robust technology that already exists. Which is those little tiny lasers in reflective the whole reflective apparatus that north does. Yeah, we'll see. Just to define the terms here. And when we talk about AR, it's I think what you and I are talking about is you look through a pair of glasses, you have perfect field of view, the glasses see that you're looking

"A lightning round. There's actually a fair amount of news. It was kind of a short week. Presidents day was on Monday. So it was a little quiet, except for Chris Welch breaking big Sonos news. We're going to have a really great episode of the verge cast that goes super deep dive into that. So we're not going to be talking about that today on the lightning round. We are however going to be talking about Spotify's new AI powered DJ, Richard D have thoughts? I don't trust it. As we've said before, I'm anti AI. Pro crypto anti AI, I get it. You got to pick your battles. But so Spotify, they will create a custom playlist and then they will have someone talk over it because that's what you wanted to hear was a computer generated voice talking over your music. Like unless it's that funk, then no. It's not what I wanted. Was there something that people were asking for? Well, McKinney, you were talking before the show about how like, this is a thing on TikTok already. Well, okay, so now I'm actually kind of disturbed. Hearing that there was an 8 because I was like, what is the difference between an AI playlist and an algorithm, something that learns your interests? That's not stupid. What are they doing? Are they just hopping on the brand train or the branding train to be like, we have AI. But no, I did not know that there was a voice. Can you imagine if they sold voice packs or something? A 100% that's coming. You're going to get a Joe Rogan. Voice pack. Well, maybe not because I think they're trying to separate. Yeah, well, I mean, the thing is the Spotify playlists are very well beloved and well hated from musicians, especially like smaller musicians, because if you get on a Spotify or an apple playlist, that's crazy. Your song is going to do numbers, people just go to these things. But at the same time, it's like, it's hard to find any other reach. Yeah. Besides these playlists and going viral online. And so something that was very interesting going on is like on TikTok, there was people who were, I forget her name, but there was a person who makes curates Spotify playlists, and went viral on just putting all these playlists out there for different moods, for different things. And of course, it's something that people want, people seeking new music, new things, just somebody to curate it for them. Yeah. And it's nice that you actually had a person editorializing that, and then having, I guess, they would explain it in a TikTok video, but the idea of having a DJ in the middle of it. An AI DJ. So it's pretending to be a person that picks up music for you, but it is not actually a person. Is it just going to be like Siri? What is the voice going to sound like? Script writers, they're really trying to create a whole set, I probably more than one vibe that it can take. And then the AI generated voice can say whatever the writers decide to hear. So the voice will be based on Xavier X jernigan and I can not knock the name X because that's what I was known as in college. It was a dumb and I can't explain it. But anyway, so X is going to be their DJ voice. And apparently they are already working on their hosting some podcasts and stuff already for Spotify. So it's a familiar voice in a way. Theoretically it'll be a familiar voice for Spotify listeners who also listened to the get up, which is Spotify's podcast. In a way, this kind of reminds me there are drivers. And I think a lot of drivers who are either Uber drivers, Lyft drivers, every single time I'm in there, because that's the only instance that I'm really in a car. And I don't really have friends who have cars in New York. So when you're in there, a lot of the time, they play those radios, like those DJ stations, right? Where there's a DJ who is like blending things in or they call outs and stuff. That's the only thing I can think of where people actually listen to music on the radio still. Yeah. And if that's the only if they're trying to take that on, I don't know, that seems like a kind of silly thing. But once they have this voice, they can have it, you know, obviously they can start breeding stuff off the artist wiki page is the song starts or maybe where they're playing or maybe a concert nearby where you can buy a ticket or something or just a kind of basic advertisement. But this is just interesting. You remember when Apple music launched? And they suddenly paid a bunch of real DJs, a lot of money to come on and curate playlists and record shows and things. Spotify decided, no, we gave Joe Rogan a $1 trillion. So we have no money left for DJs, so we'll have a computer do it. We're going to give the AI the DJ's job. Aw. Great job. Just title do some of that too. Or am I just making that up? No one knows. No, no one listens to my fiance uses title. We found them. We have a time to use at the verge. I will keep their identity confidential. I think I really respect you for that. But I want to know who it is. It's Neela, isn't it? Neela just he's got to have that flat quality lossless audio while he's driving up and down the in his giant track. All right, so some other news that happened this week, Microsoft went to Brussels, Tom Warren was also in Brussels. He's not on the show today because he is recovering from going to professors. He just messaged me one day, I was like, I have to go to Brussels. And I was why? And why am I learning about? Why do I need to know this? Oh, it's for work, okay? So Microsoft went to Brussels because they're trying to defend their right to acquire Activision. And a lot of people are upset with that. Notably Sony, Sony does not want them to acquire it because then they'll be like, well, we won't get all the games. You're going to cut us out. And so Microsoft goes to Brussels to defend and they brought some people with them. They also had a bunch of big timely announcements at the same time, including within video where they said, okay, we signed a deal. All of our games are going to be coming to Nvidia GeForce now's cloud streaming. It's going to be really great. It's going to be super exciting. And also, Call of Duty, day and date on Nintendo products. So the switch that sounds a little bit odd that you would be playing Call of Duty on the switch, but if they release a switch to it makes a little bit more sense. Yes. Yeah, 'cause I can't even play scarlet violet on my Nintendo Switch without running into frame issue. It struggles. And it gets hot, yeah. I mean, people play Call of Duty on their phones, right? You can play like war zone or whatever. But this is going to be the ones that are meant for the PC, the one that's coming for the Xbox Series X and stuff like that. I was really surprised that we didn't actually hear game passes coming to the Nintendo Switch, which would have made sense, right? Like have cloud gaming on the switch. Huge, great for Microsoft, but I guess that was probably would not have been great for Nintendo, who wants to sell games. Once the cell games, and then also what game passed work on the switch as it is right now. If you stream the games, I guess. Okay. Because some games do stream one to switch, right? Like there are some kind of like high performance games to stream plus like all the emulated games, I think, like the Nintendo online stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that all streams. And you know, I used my steam deck for streaming all the time, and it works. And it really helps to get way more battery life when I stream than when I try to actually play the game directly on the steam deck. Then it just sounds like it's on fire. Just the fans were very loudly. So yeah, this was kind of surprising news from Microsoft. It is unclear if kind of regulatory groups like UK's competition and markets authority are going to allow this to go through. Right now, Richard, how do you feel? Do you think it's going to happen? "We have 5 stories today. Starting with our number one Konami is set to bring a new Castlevania and a metal in a mill gear solid three remake to E three according to a new report. This is ocean at GameSpot. A new report claims that Konami is planning to reveal a new Castlevania and a Metal Gear Solid three remake at this year's E three. According to Andy Robinson, speaking on the video games chronicle podcast, Konami is planning to have a pretty Big E three, claiming that a new Castlevania is set to appear. Alongside the munch rumored mellow, you're solid three remake. Quote, there's a new Castlevania in addition to the dead cells, DLC, they announced that The Game Awards, Robinson explained. Quote, and there's and there's the much discussed Miller you saw at three remake, which I also expect them to finally show, end quote. In terms of the other older melody solid games, potentially being playable on modern platforms, Robinson said that is that as a one or two years ago, being able to do so in some shape or form was in the cards, but it's now less clear of what the situation is. Quote, I would imagine that milligram solid three, the remake is going to be somewhat of a test bed for that, Robinson said. Robinson also noted how Konami is quote opening up to collaborating with more developers, though it wasn't clear if he was just talking about the Silent Hill series or Konami's wider portfolio as well. Some kind of melody or solid three remake has been rumored for a while now, but there's been no official comment from Konami on the matter. Last October, the also long rumored and repeatedly leaked Silent Hill two remake was revealed, which is being developed by layers of fear studio blooper team. Also revealed, at the time, was Silent Hill F, the first game in the series to bring the story of Konami's native Japan and Silent Hill town fall, which comes from the indie studio, no code. Now Tim, the biggest news. From this new story, of course, is that video games chronicles launched a podcast. Exactly. Shout out to the homies over at VGC. The episode one, right? Yep. And what a way to launch episode one. I love it. They're like, yeah, we're gonna bring the fucking heat. We're gonna bring the bangers. We're gonna drop a Metal Gear Solid three remake is happening. This should better happen, y'all. Y'all put yourself in a position and I'm here for it and I am hoping. I am fingers crossed. We need this in our lives. Do we not? Oh, 1000%. And yeah, this is one where, you know, there are certain sources that we referenced a lot where it's like, okay, I can trust this person somewhat. You know, Jeff grubb says something's going to happen. I know that Jeff grub has good sources, right? If I hear, I'll put VGC in that camp. For me when I hear Andy Robinson and Jordan Miller talked about something. I know it to some extent. I would say there's a ton of people over there. There's another one. Tom Warren, I mean, Jason tryer, of course. Of course. There are certain names that we go to in terms of, okay, this person I trust. We know folks from video game chronicle personally. And I trust them enough to know that when they're not speaking entirely out of their ass. Now, of course, things shift and change. That becomes a whole different conversation. Is this actually going to happen at E three? Who knows? That's an entirely different conversation. But is it going to happen? Live. Is it going to stay? It's not there. Guys, it's not going to happen to the tribe here. But the idea of this happening, I think, is correct, right? At this point, I fully believe that Konami is working on the electric solid three remake because of the amount of rumors we've heard about it. And I think that's such a good idea. Yeah, I mean, look, this is one of those rumors, very similar to the Resident Evil four, remake rumors, and dead space remake rumors where at some point we've heard about these things from metroid prime, remastered. I mean, Silent Hill. Silent Hill is a perfect example. We hear about them so long, and then eventually they become true. At what point were they true? I think that is a different question. We know that Metal Gear Solid when these rumors first started, it was because those goddamn pachinko machines, right? We saw these beautiful, beautifully rendered Metal Gear Solid three cutscenes and were like, oh my God, they're doing it, and then it was like, no, no, they didn't do that. And that was in a time before I finally 7 remake was even announced, and that game is now out. So that's how long we've been talking about potential Metal Gear Solid three remake. I hope this is true. Konami clearly is in a different position in 2023 than they were the last couple of years in terms of making video games period or collaborating or licensing out whatever way you want to look at it to different indie teams or double-A triple-A teams to make these games. We know Silent Hill silent hills, there's many of them at this point. Are being worked on by a ton of different teams. And that's actually happening. We're actually getting a Silent Hill two remake that all the sound hole fans want. We're actually getting new sound hill, all of that stuff. Yeah. Metal gear is and Castlevania, we got the dead cells thing, which is like super awesome. That looks great. What a fantastic collaboration there. But the idea that Konami might actually be ready to make a return to E three time, whatever that is. And actually have things that are exciting, the last time they were at E three, that we were there, there was two times. There was one that was metal gear survive, and then there was one that was like that bad contra game on the switch.

"My good friends and yours, Addy Robertson, and Sean Hollister have been playing with this thing for a while. So we sat down to talk with them about what's working, what's not working, and why it's not backwards compatible with the games, from the original PSVR. Let's go straight to the conversation because it is a lot of fun. Okay, Addy, Sean, what's it like being back in the real world? Very high fidelity. Better field of view. And you guys were using the Sony PlayStation VR two. That's the name, right? Yeah, we've had it for over a week now. We had myself adding and Tom Warren all got to spend lots of time in this thing shooting bows and flailing around with our octopus tentacles. It was great. You guys had both used the original PSVR two. And I know that both of you use a lot of VR. Addy, I think you've been photographed with almost every VR headset. The virtues ever used? Yeah, I think that's right. So you guys did this awesome awesome video. You did this great review about the product. And I was kind of surprised because I found myself even though I have a quest too, and I love my quest too, and I occasionally use my quest to do for things like Supernatural and games and stuff. I kind of wanted this one. Can you explain to me why I suddenly want this, even though you made it very clear, it is very expensive. It only does games. And there were a lot of drawbacks. I think it's kind of this perfect middle point between something like an Oculus quest. And spending ridiculous amounts of money on a Windows computer to get your thing running. Now, if you've already got a ridiculous windows gaming computer, sure, maybe you want to take a look at the valve index. But even then, I added, I think you were telling me that you think that this is a better piece of kit in many ways than the highest end PC headsets we've seen, right? For one thing, the highest NPC headsets are like four years old now, like the falcon X came out in 2019. So just super high res like fancy panels were not as ubiquitous. Eye tracking was not as common. At this point, I don't know. It's partly the headset, but it's also it's just that it's easy. Like I've done so much PC VR and so much steam VR like fiddling around with settings and trying to make sure that I have the right cables for the right things. And it is just kind of a joy to be able to grab a single cable and plug it into a thing and enter a code or buy a game and be like, I understand that this is going to work. I was blown away. Blown away by the ease of use, like even with an Oculus quest, you're like, okay, this is self contained. It does everything. It's this lightweight wireless headset that meta will sell me. Even with the quest, you still have to sign up for your account, log into the thing. Make sure it's charged up and has enough battery life. And with this, you plug it in the front of the PS5, you already own. There are no updates to download. It already happened that it's completely compatible with the thing. You get these instructions on your TV screen, how to put it on your head. Make sure your controllers are paired and then you're in. Yeah, I think that was what kind of really was compelling to me. Watching the video reading the review from you guys was that my quest, if I don't use it for a couple of weeks and I go and I turn it on, one will it have enough battery life, or is my battery discharged over the last the answer is no, it will not. It will not have enough battery. And then two, I will almost certainly have to do at least like an update to the OS and an update to whatever game I want to play. And so what should be like takes me two minutes to get into the game. I'm now looking at ten to 15, if the battery happens to be charged. If the battery doesn't have to be charged, I'm looking at I'm putting this away I'm going to attempt it another day. And a properly set up PS5 will do all of that in the background. I also just think that meta has put so much emphasis on social lately that every time you try to get in at this point, if you're not using it constantly, like they're just constantly trying to add new social stuff. Now you create a you don't have to have a Facebook account, but you need a meta account. You need to make your avatar. Hello, would you like to see things with your avatar? Would you like to be in social? No, I wouldn't. I just want to play games. Yeah. And VR, the killer app for VR continues to be games. And this thing is just games. I don't know when it's not going to be just games, but we haven't found any metaverse experiences that are particularly compelling yet. We discussed this on previous podcasts. But games have always been this, you know, I want to be inside this world that I already enjoyed with my 2D flat screen. And this does that in a variety of ways, but the game catalog, it was kind of the weak spot in our review too. There are some really interesting experiences in here, but almost everything for the headset is being ported from somewhere else. I am impressed by how little Sony cared about whether we cared about its launch lineup. They gave us three games. And then we got some codes from other developers. But we really, it's not just that the launch lineup was sort of limited. It's that we got access to just a tiny fraction of the launch lineup. The game codes are now rolling in. Like every morning, every morning, at a time and I would be in slack frantically, are we going to have any games today? Are we actually going to know whether this PlayStation VR two had set has enough games, or we're just going to have to say, we got to get to try enough of the games. And so the reality is there is one really good interesting title that is maybe I think Eddie said it's like 85% of the full game called horizon call of the mountain.

"Speaking of ads, this show is brought to you by HelloFresh, but we'll tell you more about that later because we want to say thank you to everyone who has taken time in the past to leave us a 5 star review on their podcast platform of choice. It really means a lot to us, right, Brit? It means so much to us, but I have a goal and I put this in the show notes, the goal is we are currently at a 4.6 rating on Apple, and now listen, if you want to give us a four star review, and it's constructive feedback, cool. But a lot of the reason why we're at a 4.6 instead of a 5 because a lot of asshats who loved us a one star review, and we've read them on the show before. It's usually, oh, talk about Yakuza too much or oh, they're women or they feel like everyone should be treated equally. You know, like really stupid reasons. Really dumb reasons, and because of those asshats in their ass hattery, it's impacting our overall goal. So I would love to see if we can get our average 5 star review score up from a 4.6 to like even a 4.7, I would do back flips. I mean not really excited probably break my neck. But all I'm saying is if you have not left us a review, please do. You don't even have to write anything down. We'd love it 'cause we'll read it. But all you have to do is tap that 5 star and help us go far. Just take a couple minutes of your time. Does not take any dollars or sense or credit card numbers. We don't need to get the name of your first born child or anything like that. Could use a little support, and that's an easy way to do it. No rumple still can cause. Listen, it literally just read that book the other day for the first time in a long time and I forgot how creepy rumpelstiltskin is. That is a weird child story. I don't know why, it's for children. It's bad. All right, let's talk about some new shall we. Let's get into the news. This first story will tell you just how slow of a newsweek it is because this is the lead story. Dead island two, everybody, launching a week early. Why would that be? I have no clue that anything to do with that little game we talked about a couple weeks ago, Star Wars Jedi survivor also being pushed to that date who could say. So who could say, take a shot, John Drake, everyone. But yeah, I mean, no one's surprised by this. I'm not surprised by this. Are any of you surprised by this? I mean, a little after all the delays they went through is a damn buster studios is the developer for this game and they announced that the game went gold, which is a really important certification milestone for developers to essentially say, hey, the game is done, we're sending the code to the platform makers Nintendo Sony Xbox to essentially get the game ready to launch on their systems. And with that announcement, they said, and by the way, we're moving the game up a week 'cause it's ready early. And we have seen this a couple of times in the past and it can happen when a development team maybe gives themselves a little extra time in case they need it. And then they don't. And then they are like, well, let's just launch it early, but I think it's safe to say in this case, they probably don't want to release on the same day as Star Wars Jedi survivor, which delayed to April 28th, so they would have been coming out at the same time. It's like, nah, going up against a Star Wars, just not a good call. Especially I think just the overall consensus on dead island to overall quality. I'm rooting for it, but I think there's just a lot of like, okay, you're gonna go get to Star Wars, Jedi, survivor game, or a game that's been a thing since 2014. I think is when it was announced. So yeah, this is very cool, but like you said, slow ass newsweek. This is the lead story, not much to dissect your Friends. No. And I just want to remind people that dead island riptide is one of my favorite love to hate at games, meaning most people hate that game and think it's janky and terrible and I'm like, I thought it was really fun. I really liked it. Whenever I get asked to be on a panel for a game that I always have to defend, it's always dead island ripped out. I'm very excited about that island too. Fully mentally preparing that it's gonna be janky AF, but I don't care. Again, that isn't janky AF that is making a big overhaul in preparation for a big thing coming. Destiny two, everybody. So I feel like rook and Rihanna, you guys should take this story. I want to just make a little disclaimer here is that this is from the verge in Tom Warren did a really thorough write up on this 5000 word blog that was on the bungee website. Which is great, but I went through it as someone who was very, very, very, very very casual destiny player. He played a bunch back in the day, haven't touched it in a while. And I just kind of highlighted some of the things that I understood. So if y'all want, I can read these bullet points and you can just like, after just talk about what makes you the most excited and tingling the pants. That's good. All right. Absolutely. All right, it feels incoming. Let's go. Let's go. All right, so ahead of the destiny two lightfall DLC launched later this month, bungie is laying out the company's plans for destiny two for the year ahead and beyond. There are some big changes on the way for players, chief among them is making destiny two more challenging to play, and some hints at a big overhaul for the power leveling system that bungie has used for years. Quote, while we are still committed to offering multiple difficulty levels in content such as our campaigns night fall secret missions, dungeons and raids, I feel like the baseline challenge in most of our content is just too low, amidst destiny two game director Joe Blackburn in more than 5000 word blog posts. Benji is tackling the challenge of destiny two in his ongoing power creep issues with build crafting updates mod changes in some nerves to the damage in survivability of players. Bungie is now planning to tweak its power settings over the year ahead before it tackles the challenge of ending one storyline and figuring out where destiny two heads next. Lightfall will launch with the usual power grind

"Congratulations. it's my evil strategy has come full circle. It's my windows. And i want it now so They broke brief tom. Warren yeah. You're right it's a little bit funky because you can't do it. In the upgrade there will be a windows ten to windows. Eleven upgrade through windows update. That will only work with eighth generation. Intel plus gp. But if you have an older machine that is quote not compatible and this is. The part of the problem was what mean not compatible runs. It's gonna run perfectly. Well did an arbitrary distinction that microsoft just said well no. It's not going to run on these. Older machines will now in fact we know it is because you'll download a nice so of windows eleven. You can start manually and it and it should work. It's not going to. It's not going to say you can't install it now. There is a big question mark. They didn't mention this during the briefing. But tom warren says after we published this post microsoft reached out to tell us that systems that are upgraded this way may not be entitled to get windows updates security updates the which would make it really not a good choice. Now you'd have to do it. New install each time. there was a major ready I don't know. I think this is i. I think this is all influx. in wins. eleven comes out. Most people will do as windows users have done since time memorial. Get the version of windows with a new computer. Yes yeah that's what people do. Here's the here's the problem with this entire conversation that we're having My poor question panos panay. I know that was hilarious. I'm just glad i didn't dukes. Microsoft would call me and be like what the hell is that. And i'm glad i can text. Oh and just don't call me all s.'s. that i use seemed to have ossified. They have stopped really evolve. That's the exact same grid of apps and the phone. The cameras gotten better but it still is not very good phone calls and it's really great at twitter the same. I've had like ten years that that's fine. It's good you know. Windows is trying to find a way to be more open and retain its windows. Nece i just not that mad about it. Frankly you know and i i love it. They're putting limits on it. But i really think that you want lennox not windows personally but yeah just my elias. To the average consumer does not want lennox. They want a pretty windows. Like they're fighting against pretty max for fabrics. Consumers should not be buying windows. I can't tell you. How many calls i get to the radio show from people who say i got a call the day wonderful lovely woman. An older woman probably my age. I keep getting this pop up from mcafee saying i need to renew my subscription but i don't have mcafee. I don't get rid of that so at half an hour later. I still haven't really explained to her to get rid of it. You made me mad. Because yes there's maybe there's a cut off for age but in mice normal most people need power and freedom and now be walden. This apple as i'm used to close this. I'm not recommending iraq. Either because i would suggest a chromebook or an ipad and book. Yes what do you own a chromebook. They're they're fine for browsing. Do you can't do anything. Then they're lovely that. I call couch off. A crunchy was designing rocketship. Like using a weed. Whacker cut your grass. Okay you can get the job done. But i mean i'd rather have a lawnmower. What am doing back this head look. I'm not a perfect traveling. You didn't want to bring a big computer. Because i'm gonna america's citizen which makes me a trash panda. I fully understand what's wrong with apple but there is a break. Sort of like leah. All she does play all. These games are friends need. Pc's they're not gaming on max this not the life that they're living you can't live like that sort of a whole system gamer. I agree if you wanna play the latest sky rim or cyberpunk twenty seven seven windows machine video and you don't wanna spend. What are you talking about my everybody process. Have you not looking you only fans everybody's got four susia stuff and i think you should get any operating system. They disagree with you. I'm saying normal people who want to do some banking check their email and shopping amazon. They don't need if you're over the age of fifty five hundred twenty five. If you're twenty five. You're not doing anything that you need a windows machine for it's been it's been a long day since you've been twenty five. They need to twenty five hundred. Tell first of all. I don't entirely endorse the. That just happened because that was brutal. Rally the the thing that you're missing slightly is that the the gen z. Folks are incredibly creative. Make stuff okay. But but i mean honestly maybe an ipad be a better we all crazy absolutely not we all create this thing to make it on their phone. You know a lot of all of tick-tock stuff is done on the phone. It's not done on. my son. Has six point six million views of his last talk video and he doesn't on his phone and his mac but he uses final cut but still desktop environment. That you cannot have a chromebook. Yeah but he's but how many is that everybody was worth. Whatever book is worthless the conversation. How woody what do you need to do. Dot com are down that they're getting email there surfing than that they're doing their banking pictures and laptop explodes. But here's the whole well. I'm about to work for yahoo so piece. Then that's me. Y'all look people buying your young young. Apollo is buying verizon media group which is a rebrand of oath which was the combination of yahoos carcass in aol and rebranding. The new thing. Yahu tech crunch will not be Oh they're brandon. They're calling it. You know so i. I will be working for a subsidiary of yahoo which will be a subsidiary of private. Wow but that's great. I think still get there on a chromebook right there the process. Here's the hey. So here's the problem with a chromebook. The problem the chromebook is yes. You can do email. Yes you can use twitter yes you can do all these very basic things but at any point if you make the choice to do more of the answer is no no and you don't want to hear no you don't want to hear no if you want to learn. Learn how to or do photoshop. You don't want to hear. No if you wanna do. Final cut or premier. You don't wanna hear no if you want to play the latest far cry on a computer instead of a console. You don't wanna hear no a- chromebook tells you know and that's why you don't wanna chromebook just wanna make a collage book and i can't put more to fifteen pitchers you only just can't figure it out that's all you could totally do everything you wanna do. I get caught. A guy can get a out more because your it's a lot safer people you don't you don't understand the pain. People are suffering on using windows for for the next other than your apple shows that you have to do for the next thirty days. I do show to for the next thirty days. You must do every single show every piece of living on a chromebook thirty.

"Mental at users quote customizing control defaulted granular level eliminating app categories and elevating all apps to the forefront of the defaults experience and granted are technical pointed out as html not handled in windows ten when you change the default web so this is giving you that control right. Upfront the verges tom. Warren found that fire fox already adapted to this. And so when you go into fire fox and say. Make this the default browser. It handles it for you without you. Having to go into default apps settings. But none of the other browsers have done that yet. And even when you've gone to the trouble to change the defaults it isn't always respected windows. Ten already ignored the default browser in search and the task bar widget and windows. Eleven ignores the default browser choice in all widgets and search sending all users to microsoft edge for those so a lot of people frustrated skype about this. A my first feeling is okay. I like i like my extensions to be proper to work. well Whatever that may mean. If i install something new on a computer and it just kind of knows i should be the the king of your. Pdf's now i like that. I don't have to think with it. I kind of know installed it for that reason. And it's gonna work. And if i want to change it i can. I can change. You know where things go now. This is a lot of extensions all web. Not all but they're very web centric extensions right and chances are i'd kind of like an all or not. Let me be granular go. that's fine. yeah but let me address. Is those engineers rule the day and they are able to hear scott and go like oh you just want to select all great. We can put that in there or make it even easier. Bring back the categories. And let me say. I'll let you handle it. Or i'll click here to customize which granted is more like what windows ten was doing so maybe they don't wanna do that but if this time to call microsoft on their bluff if your idea was like put it out there to hear what people think. I did not look to find out. How many laptops computers out. There don't have it at all. But we have a great from tom. Warren on the verge dot com that is linked in our show notes. "That we observe as we flip resources into our flipboard magazine over the past two weeks in this episode. We have four trends that we will discuss and long with a recommended reading. That will share. That goes with each of the four trans. We end the episode by peering into the crystal ball and making predictions about the trends. We believe will observe in the upcoming two weeks so abby start us off by talking about are four trends in sharing are recommended readings. Thank you tim. Yes are four trends. Will the first two translate the top trending items than the largest number of articles that we flipped into our flipboard magazine in the past two weeks were the same as the last as the last episode number one hardware and software. We saw tablet These are tablets that are specifically for reading books. pdf etc tablets for reading g. Mail gets a redesign specifically g mail. Rooms are now g mail spaces. Google meet also gets an update a again specifically more visible hand raise requests There's also a recommended alternatives to adobe photoshop. This was a good article that listed a number of alternatives for anyone. Who's doesn't have access to photoshop but needs to manipulate images in an image files. There were oculus quest updates. There was the voila. A artist reviewed. I'm i'm assuming that many of you listening out. There are liked him and myself and have played a little bit with voila a artists. One of the nice things about this particular article was that discussed. How one's data is managed personal data that the app itself makes use of an and collects. Facebook releases live audio rooms which allows people to broadcast live from within facebook but the recommendation read in. This area is microsoft's new fluid office. Documents are coming to life in teams one note and more by tom. Warren for the verge. As always. I apologize if i mispronouncing anybody's names This new fluid sense of documents though is something that Tim and i were talking about earlier and tim. We were saying it's not difficult for us to kind of catch up with this well. It's still a little bit of a challenge for somebody like me but it's it's not bad but it is the sort of thing that we're going to. We suspect we're going to have to describe to mentor colleagues. So by virtue of the fact that we're describing this too many of our colleagues. We think this is an important article to read just to get up to speed on what fluid office documents actually are our second trend. Instructional design and teaching in general. This was the same as last episode and we are thrilled to see this as a strong trend. There are a lot articles about. Instructional design strategies and teaching in general badging and micro learning strategies learning measurement. There was a report suggesting the teachers are more likely to experience. Depression systems symptoms than any other adults. And we're not happy about that. It's we're just reporting that this is the case but this is something that should be looked at by all of us who are in education. A new book teaching machines the history of personalized learning by audrey waters. It's a book that examines the history literally the history of teaching machines and that brought back. Happy memories to us for those of you. Who don't know statement..

"Like one you're fresh-faced and you're like you believe that there's an answer that question that isn't into you've you've already got it like you've already figured amazing this deal. I mean it was a huge deal. The trump administration sued to block it. Because trump was mad at cnn. And you just want to revenge on. Cnn they failed the entire impetus to this deal. Was they were going to bundle. Hbo max with eighteen thousand services that made no sense because there was a pandemic and people were not streaming hbo maximum phones. so much network. It's still just like they will throw issue ask you. If you're an eighteen thousand subscriber for any reason whatsoever sneeze the eighteenth website they would you like h. max but none of that worked out another off. They filed a document the sec. That's like an faq for investors in all the questions like why. Why was this ever a good idea. And we still think it was a good idea. We just think we have a better idea. Now it's very good so that's that we're gonna unpack it. It is not closed as we were talking about earlier. There's a lot of antitrust action in the world. that's gotta get approved. I can't imagine the government being like we sued to block this deal and now we're going to bring a sui to unwind it but it does have to pass muster the merging with discovery. Though is going to really suck if you're like a cable provider because now like there's just this huge packet of channels that can negotiate big like big rate increases and. That's not gonna be great like i. I could definitely see. They're still some protests into this merger. Spinoff whatever it is entity also the revolving door of executives is wild so. At and t. Bought time warner. They installed a new set of executives. All the old worn executives including the head of hbo left tons of creative left warner than install the new ceo ex ceo. Hulu calar said all my movies are gonna streaming day and date with theaters now on pissed off. Everyone including christopher nolan. Who said i'm done working with warner brothers. Then they spun it off and they're like kalari. You might be gone. And i think he's agreed to stay on for one year that after that he's out so like just the wreckage in the wake of this and they killed two incredible streaming networks to 'cause they killed film struck with the merger the original merger and. It was just like devastating. If you were one of the four people who drive it was me. It was just me in a trenchcoat. And then they killed killed the dc universe. That was actually almost good. If you were a giant giant nerd and enjoyed comic books again it was just me. Yeah sorry have you heard of. Hbo max because we're happy to give you free. If you're eighteen thousand subscriber. I've never paid for it and i think i have four. Subscriptions already the did however launch. Hbo max add tear this week. Yeah market but just look. I know have a lot of thoughts about initials all the time. The only interest in this country was. Ats atalanta by just forbid. I think it would work out. I'm just glad. I live in the uk and things look complicated over government programming. I'm just saying senator if you're listening. I'm just assuming that after shoes on coder. She's a hardcore verge. Chancellor now that's a fair assumption right. That's my idea furniture spill. Just put that in. Las other shooting news amazon entered a deal to buy mgm which super interesting because that attracted way more antitrust interest right. You're josh hawley. Like across the spectrum. We're mad at amazon. We're not gonna let them by extremely defunct bill in studio. They're going to accept like it's going to be fine. I just can't imagine that they're not going to clean house at mgm. Yeah right like amazon amazon. Affi- that whole thing and then like the you know the centerpiece of that studio's james bond and they don't even other rights. Tom is a british person. You you're legally allowed to know the ownership structure of james bond. He owns an eskimo. W james bond is creatively controlled by the broccoli family Amazon can't even make that into a tv show. Although i'm confident jeff as throw money at that problem until it's also itself. That's that's how you solve that problem. I think come put me in the bond movie. He's so clearly the villain no go. He doesn't know that. Twist look if you james bond for from a different perspective. James bond is the villain of all those movies. I'm just putting that out there. Oh yeah for sure for some people in those movies. James bond is like very much bad guy in the ways blowing stuff up. He's sleeping with your girlfriend. Like jesus shows up in ruins all your plans. He just sounds like a typical british person. You finally get your giant pit with sharks. Install the happy you. Everything was perfect and james bond swans in steals. Your girl blows up your sharks and murders and takes your cat. That's the verge cast everybody. We're gonna end on that note. It was alex's for show. She's just as bad as james on his own. Lot going on this week as you can tell log on next week. I wanna call out a thing. We were not able to talk about. There's also chicken wing shortage in this country. We need a catchy name that we can make a Sounder for when we read the incremental news, that is going to dribble out of this. And every subsequent retrial that will come from this battle. Microsoft starts testing Xbox cloud gaming on the web

"Tom. Warren has a first look at microsoft's x cloud for the web today. Because lord knows. If i weren't doing this i would be probably gaming all day if you are skeptical of google staying in the cloud gaming game. You've got to have more confidence in microsoft right. I mean twenty years of xbox plus microsoft's cloud businesses like three times the size of google's so apparently microsoft has begun testing a web based version of its ex cloud game streaming service. Which would allow anyone to play games via any web browser. This means i o s devices quote much like how ex cloud currently works on android tablets and phones. The web version includes a simple launcher with recommendations for games. The ability to resume recently played titles and access to all the cloud games available through xbox game pass ultimate once you launch a game it will run full screen and you'll need a controller play. Xbox games streamed through the browser. It's not immediately clear. Wet resolution microsoft is streaming games at through this web version. The southbound maker is using xbox one s server blades for its existing x. cloud infrastructure. So full four. K streaming won't be supported until the back end hardware is upgraded to xbox series x components. This year microsoft is planning to bundle this web version of x cloud into the pc version of the xbox app on windows. Ten to the web version appears to be currently limited to chromium browsers like google chrome microsoft edge. Much like google stadia service. Microsoft is planning some form of public preview of x. cloud via the web in the spring and this wider internal testing signals. That the preview is getting very close and quote.

The Series S may be a cheaper less powerful next-gen Xbox and Injustice 3 may be in development

"A different next Gen xbox called the xbox series s has potentially been confirmed. Thanks to labelling on a controller. Microsoft has been teasing the existence of multiple next Gen X. boxes basically since the very first time they teased plans for next. Gen. Xbox they pointedly used the term consoles Klerl the first time they even mentioned Nexgen, and then when the xbox series x was officially announced, it was called the series x, which obviously implies that it is one of many but. Those teases there hasn't been much official word on what additional buying options will be available for the next generation of xbox but. Recently, we learned about something called the xbox series s from an unlikely source, the fine print on the packaging of an xbox one controller. Tom Warren reported on the xbox says asked for the verge and wrote the verge has obtained photos of Microsoft's new next Gen xbox controller in white complete with packaging that mentions the xbox series S. Twitter User Zach S was able to purchase the controller today and we've confirmed it is genuine. The new controller was sold on a resale site today, and the side of the packaging notes that the controller works with both xbox series x and xbox series s consoles Microsoft has not officially unveiled an xbox series s yet nor has the company even confirmed a white xbox series x controller a mysterious white xbox series x controller also appeared online last month complete with the new D pad texture triggers and new share button. This new league matches the previous. Controller League and retail packaging suggests that these could be appearing in stores. Soon, the XBOX series s will likely be Microsoft's second cheaper next Gen. xbox that's been code-named Lockhart a Microsoft document leaked back in. June. Shed some further light on the company's plans for to next Gen consoles. Microsoft's xbox series x Deaf Kit. code-named Dante allows game developers to enable a special lockhart mode that has a profile of the performance that Microsoft wants to hit with this second console. Then story is linked in the show notes. The rumors related to Lockhart which I think we are safe to rename the xbox series s at this point is that it is not as powerful as the xbox series x so it's probably going to be cheaper and it will probably focus on streaming using exe cloud. That's my assumption. Anyway I guess console manufacturers are now renewed value in multiple consoles skews working at game stop during the playstation three and xbox three sixty era I feel like people are generally just confused about the different buying options when it came to those consoles so. Then the playstation four and xbox one at launch. Basically each had one skew I. AM curious to see how people will react to the different playstation fives and different xbox series. Maybe, it won't confuse consumers at all especially since most purchasing as don online these days and it's just easier to do research in general or maybe it will create confusion again I don't know I. Guess we will find out at some point later this year you know it would really be nice to start saying an actual date soon I hope we learn about that. Injustice three may be on the way according to artist boss logic. This is firmly a rumor and far from a confirmation but artist boss logic who works in video games a lot. An recently did a live drawing the assassin's creed Valhalla cover art as a means of officially announcing the game for Yourself Sheridan image that just had the word injustice three stylized where the e at the end of justice is the number three and the dot on the second I was stylized to be Dr Manhattan symbol from watchmen, and it is all placed in front of a clock implying the potential game could feature watchmen characters. There's even the familiar watchmen smiley face floating around in the clock parts. Boss logic tagged Ed Boon in the tweet who is credited as the director of injustice to and is perhaps better known as one of the CO creators of mortal combat. It's really not clear what this is. Boss logic could have just mocked something up for fun as injustice fan he could just be sharing found image online and tagging ed boom to see what kind of reaction it creates or it could be totally legitimate. And tore you know maybe boss logic forgot how email works and. tweeted his to Ed Boon instead of sending it to him directly. It feels a little early to be talking about injustice three especially considering more combat eleven just came out last year and it's big DLC. Expansion was pretty recent to just a few months ago developer Nether Realm is a big team though capable of working on multiple projects at once. So it's not outside the realm of possibility that they would be ready to announce a new injustice game soon. It could be fully announced at the upcoming. DC. Fan Dome Event with maybe a plant twenty, twenty, one release that that would make sense.

Gen xbox plans Greg. What's your reaction to all of this awesome? I think that. There's I don't want there to be for xbox going forward too much confusion. You've had all this time to buy these boxes to by the xbox one x right. Why would. We worry about that at this point. Right like you are about to launch the series that is GonNa take the place of the xbox. One X in this a pantheon of xbox is in the xbox ecosystem of Hey, for at least a couple of years. You'RE GONNA be able to play every all party games on any one of the xbox is so who cares I think that it makes so much sense to start eliminating some. Some of them make it easy when you go in.
