We're accomplishing many good things in terms of cutting down infectious. Transmission. We've been talking throughout the show about what's going on with the LaSalle veteran showman. We will continue today. Governor Pritzker was asked about it and gave an update on the situation there. As of this morning, 39 of 96 residents have had their most recent test for Cove. We will do everything possible to safeguard the lives of our heroes. Now, the governor was asked if there's a double standard when it comes to lawmakers being caught not following the guidelines. Yeah, the double standard is the people out there that think that they don't need to follow the rules. Those people out there have chosen literally to provide opportunities for people to get sick. The many many good bar owners and restaurant owners who are suffering Through this pandemic and many other businesses. But let's talk about barn restaurant hours. They're suffering tremendously that this is through no fault of their own. This virus wants to get transmitted in a place where people take off their masks. For an extended period of time sit across from one another eating and drinking, and that's exactly Anam politic ation point for transmission of the virus. I feel terrible for the law abiding bar and restaurant owners that there are others out there. They're trying to take advantage of the public and get them sick. And so, look, I think that I suppose they'll be ultimate judgment on those people. But in the interim, the fact is that anybody that took any business interruption grants that is not following the law will have those taken away from them. On. I think all of us will remember who was protecting us, which business owners and businesses and bar owners were protecting us. When we get past this pandemic, I think that the people who were not protecting us will be held accountable. By the patrons who live in their area. "Frank Senate is in the studio with this Frank, of course, from Crain's Chicago business in joins us on most Wednesdays, Frank. It's great to see you happy new year. Happy new year. Steve. All right. So, you know, there I wanna talk about Arnie granted and jam productions because they announced I think it was just yesterday that he it's Michelson right? Was his partner longtime partner. Yeah. Jerry Michaels Jerry Michelson that they were going to it looks like a split up in a way, he Greenwich gonna stay involved in some things. But leaving jam productions what he told me about that. Yeah. So the were there right at the kind of dawn of the modern concert promotion industry with jam here. And you had like Bill Graham the Fillmore in San Francisco, Bill Graham, did he produce the last waltz too? I feel I believe he did. And I remember we were talking off the air. He died in a helicopter crash, which I had not remembered. But yeah, the last while still one of my very favorite. Was a great movies concert film? Yeah. I like that rendition of helpless that Neil young doesn't. I think of that often these days. So so Arnie is throwing in the towel on some of the things that he's doing. You know, the merger of TicketMaster and live nation has really radically transformed the concert promotion industry, and these regional independent players are kind of pushed off to the side harder. It's interesting because he and jam revolutionized the way things worked going back to the seventies. And now it's a new cycle where they're kind of there's a new model, and they are quite as effective as they used to be. And he's got other things to do. He's writing a memoir. He's really interestingly developing a circus act with a high high wire Walker nickel me up, which is awesome. Linda was in town to walk from marina towers across to Leo, and they formed a friendship and now he's creating a Cirque up. I mean, this is the guy who his partner said was always the Schmoozer. And so he's still, you know, making friends wherever he goes. So he's got the circus act coming up, and he's also going to be still involved with jammed theatricals, which is one a lot of Tony awards. All right. So there's that is this an amicable. I mean, he gave an interview I don't know if it was to Greg Qatar somewhere I read in the quote was I will miss. Most of the people I worked with. When I say, we all say that. But we might not all say that. And so when he said that that kind of jumped out at me like, well, clearly, there's some people here who you won't miss. Yeah. I mean, the great cod article which I recommend everybody. Read who's interested at the trip, he interviewed both Arnie, and Jerry, and Jerry, basically said that he's still challenged by the business and wants to stay with it. There doesn't seem to be any acrimony. Good and seventy years old. Yes. Arnie said. Yeah. He's got other fish to fry is not because he's seventy seventy when I'm seventy it will be because. With any luck. Okay. I want to talk to you about the race for mayor to a couple of articles and cranes. I saw. Let's let's start with the say lesser of them. But it's my it's a minor point Tom Tunney up in the forty to forty six hundred forty four forty fourth ward Wrigley field ward. He had said that the cubs are trying to get rid of him. And it looks as if maybe the Ricketts family is supporting an opponent of Tani's. But it looks like Tunney is going to be okay there. Yeah. He released a poll to Greg Hines and the poll shows them with majority support it shows his opponents with single digit support. It's not overwhelming like ninety two ten but it's over fifty percent. So he looks like he's going to weather the storm, and I think seventy seven percent of people in the poll, so they have a favorable impression of him. So so that's nice favorability. So that shows that the cubs even though they've got great sway in that neighborhood. They haven't taken it over completely. That's right. The bigger question. I had or point wishes Ataman dosa floated this well Hines again called it a lake from tax. He was going to be a graduated property tax for wealthier people would pay more. It was publicized it was ridiculed, and she withdrew it. Yeah. She did back off of it. I mean as Greg pointed out in his initial story on this Kagan, the new Cook County assessor wants to tighten up the assessment. So that people with higher value houses are paying more of their fair share just under the current system. And then if you add it on top of that graduated tax there could be really significantly higher assessments on higher property values. So this was a trial balloon that was floated by Mendoza turned out to be a lead balloon with all the Burke stuff going on. This was almost a nice different thing to focus on in the mayoral race for I think for reporters and the rest of us watching it. But all the other candidates have come out and taking swings at her about it. Or a lot of the other main candidates? The one thing that I take away from this as she was really quick to back out of it. And the second thing is she does look like a front runner because everybody's going. Well, would I took out of it? Who says you know, what I've been around for a lot of mayor races in Chicago and automatic races. It's nice that in this race. Whether it's Bill Daley talking about fewer aldermen, or whatever that the candidates seemed to be debating real real policy. Really? I mean, do you agree with me totally? I love how this racist shaping up. I mean, the Burke stuff's interesting. But it seems like everybody's got their Burke tie, and they're just do. So they're all kind of throwing that around in that maybe nets out to I don't know what all of this policy stuff. I hear you. I mean, there's great substantive policy type decisions. I know Greg Hinds is doing a great job digging into all of it. I'm going to sit and eat some popcorn Chicago business dot com. Check it out. Frank senate. Great to see you. Thank you. Steve. It's the wintrust business lunch on seven twenty WGN. Start the timer. Because here's the wintrust businessmen it sharing and examining Chicago business news of the day. Okay. Now Amazon team what if we just dropped the package on their front doorstep. That's to unsecured. Okay. What about if you dropped it in their house? That's creepy. Yeah. You're right. Oh, how about in their garage could be just right that might have been the process for Amazon after they announced that they're partnering with oakbrook based garage door company Chamberlain group.
