"Mark in the five o'clock hour I guess you just can't let it go eight minutes ago he posted as the NFL combine opens Joe burrows hand supposedly measure just nine inches that's Dave Craig Silvey small I yes if only we all would be a shame yeah at nine inches yeah tweeted just about five hours ago considering retirement after I was informed the football will be slipping out of my tiny hands please keep me in your thoughts there you go I mentioned that I would mention I would tell you what I have mention over the weekend at Tom Waddell Superbowl party and this is bathroom that's bathroom humor bathroom I don't know maintenance I guess you'd call it okay I got the old made fun of in Lafayette couple years ago I asked probably last week too but I mean this was for this thing I was gonna bring up okay and is that a lot of people a lot of guys think that they have a good game but there's a lot of times when you stand up to use the facilities and out of the urinal at a place like where we work but you know the you hit the water and stuff pops out of the water and hits the west bank it hits them the the top of the toilet or sometimes it's the floor in man as you may be a marksmen by yes yes there's some some splash back idea control at Tom Waddell's house and Superbowl Sunday this was right before someone told me that me wearing my ring diner gear they were up twenty to ten in the third quarter and someone walked by and might even have been top bottles as they look to your guys you know and so anyway use the facilities ed and his bathroom and I was being the nice guy because obviously there's enough guys that went in that bathroom that thought the rain was true they were William Tell yeah so I took a few pieces that add to I could have taken a whole roll of toilet paper and I cleaned around the third floor in the toilet and things like that because it was disgusting it was absolutely disgusting in years ago I said you know if you sit down you don't have that problem all right it's like I said like the worst thing in the world and I mailed a man could ever say listen not afraid now you bring in masculinity into the equation here and there's nothing I look I like to think we live in an open society we're not there yet where you can just go ahead and and put that out there and think that it's going to be well openly embraced but I'm not saying it's wrong I'm not saying a look down upon it I'm just saying I can't bring myself listen to go there yet if you were standing up and you did look down upon it you would realize the mess you made him around the toilet almost certainly what's that over there all is must my question is when you go what bounces out of the toilet is it water that's displaced by what you're putting in or is that what you're putting in it bounces off the water and out bounces out for her getting really deep I have to manage a little bit of both thank I think that's probably saved by a top model I mean I didn't I didn't charge ideally by then leave a little bill or anything for the work I did in his bathroom at that time I knew there'd be other men coming in who thought they had their aim would be fine and then so I was gonna get just as messy as soon as I left well I have to admit if Tom models listening he probably will invite you back the next year's Superbowl party just days later lucky that you keep the place nice and tidy for hire for all parties by the way if you need a bathroom attendant the cleanup press ready to go with a little that'll change tray I've had heard back and I'm in the center and the Pentagon yes exactly and for a while at wells house so little deodorants yes you know the other it's a couple of aftershave absolutely anyway little cool water in the package for you if you're hoping to get lucky later in the evening so I got a response from the yes waddle based on our conversation before hand about Mason Saunders achei Madison Bumgarner and his his rodeo activities without the knowledge of baseball teams who are trying to sign him I S. time model I said to partner because of our conversation about former bears players going against our high school faculties and such I said so my questions were to partner again while with the bears did you ever play in some type of basketball event slash charity game against high school faculty and second have you ever written a mechanical bull and if so how drunk were you and he followed up with a plan plenty of basketball games against different groups never written a mechanical bull so he didn't play in some yeah so the bears didn't have a problem back in the day of their their their vases a high priced players but you know their players and their high priced players and while playing in basketball yes and I told while that's disheartening and then he responded back which is the question mark he said which part yeah I mean I imagine he probably is wondering why I want to know if he's ever written a mechanical bull I'm going to say we're not even sure if he hasn't written a mechanical bull because there's strong odds he just doesn't remember all we as he grew up in he grew up in Cincinnati okay are in there in Ohio yes yeah you yes if there's one thing we know if you come from Cincinnati you grew up worshipping Pete rose and write and writing mechanical bulls in their youth yeah so until he can prove otherwise I'm just gonna go ahead and say that he doesn't remember that he's written a mechanical we had a call earlier he couldn't hold out but he said he remembers going to is don't go to the school and watching big cat Williams and don L. Wolford play damn right I wasn't far that long ago they overlap while I wanna probably played in that game probably came it came in off the bench some of those games even then yeah even that he probably got cut twice before they invited a baby played with the eighty five bears he played basketball maybe with the eighty five bears there you go we finally got to the bottom of that long that long rumor that we incessantly keep going yes so you'll have you'll have more waddle and Silvy tomorrow beginning at two o'clock with crosstalk with comedy or go all in I think tomorrow the guys will be breaking down the Blackhawks moves because it'll be Pat Boylan of right hand we got I think tomorrow morning they will be in for a cap tomorrow and most of the week I believe so Hamley and I think I. G. hoods going to work with him so yes perfect way to start your morning tomorrow and until then Fred keep your bathrooms clean yeah I will try I do that all the time Charlie Roumeliotis disable more time I don't think you have to pause for a while you get it right and Jesse Rogers thanks a lot also Tyler and Eric thanks for your help you're on ESPN one thousand P. and one thousand secon goes home for sports yes it is going to send them to the.

"So we've got to former bears here in the studio these guys I mean like that's Tom Waddell he he's he's got along I'm David cat he's a star I said this on our show yesterday I said look there's something in the water in the in the in the long household okay and in the because his dad I could I said this yesterday I could listen to his dad read the dictionary because he's just a great communicator aside from being a hall of fame player and a great analysts he's also a guy that you just like I could listen to him re definitions to words I just think he's he like I said I think it's a great communicator I think your brother Chris is the same way and obviously you guys have found out in over the course of time in the last two days the tiles got the same gift he does it's a gift body I appreciated Tom but I I think what's lost on folks and I always reference my dad or my brothers when I talk about my upbringing and learning about certain things like this but he points in the direction he says you should listen to a guy like Tom Waddell so that's what you fail to realize is is there's a a reciprocation there well that's cool air rejection because growing up in Chicago as a as an NFL player I was afforded unique opportunities come on the radio and have TV spots stuff I never fathom doing and one of the opportunities gimmick all go along with you guys and and I I could have asked for a better get my feet wet session than with you got what you know still then I Marvel at it all the time you were thrust into a difficult spot because was the Jay Cutler show and you know there will be moments when it just wasn't the right situation for check be on whether he would make a decision here or there and and we've got a great relationship with jazz I'm not talking bad about Jay I mean I think everyone learned over the course of what we do three or four years with Jay Cutler show that there's a personality in there that you see it on reality television that is ultra appealing but Kyle would step in as a young player in your life recalling last minute hate Jay's not gonna be able to come in Kyle can you come in and help us you know I'm feeling myself accountancy okay a lot yeah no it was good and listen I mean it was it was all fun so I I'm I know I've I've communicated with you in one way or another but you know you had a great football career and you know I think everyone here wishes you the best in whatever it is you choose to do we hope that it is you know doing this more frequently but it's been cool he said he said to me yesterday because we were talking about Jay and I haven't had my feelings on track you just don't know you know Jay and one and one Avenue and and I get and I'm not being critical of you cap on I mean but if you do get a chance I know it sounds like a nice set up to do yes it off campus yes versus three of us went out to dinner who would get done and you'd say to him I want to hang with people that say things about Jay Cutler I would compare it to walking up to a pool table looking at a pool shot and saying I can't make that shot and then a guy who knows pool says well why don't you walk around the table and looking from a different angle yeah and listen I think we would also agree end and only Jay would be pissed if he heard me say this and I hope by the way that he's going to be in studio with us next Thursday look you know I'm not for everybody you're not for everybody you're not for I mean do you it's hard to have a hundred percent approval rating with anyone and and there are some people that you know Jay just isn't he's not going to resonate with but I think we found a core away and I'm sure you guys did a locker room over the course of time and I saw how you guys responded when Jay came back to you know for the beginning of the year celebration I mean you know there's there's there's a relationship that we have that other people don't have that I understand why you would feel differently but you know we appreciate what Jay brings to the table a lot of ways and I consider him a friend I mean I exactly I mean there were pictures taken in the situation you were just talking about for the Packer game I believe yes and there are many games three centers that were sent to me and all I can think when I look at it is you can't fake that yes of course you can the way yes grabbing on me the way I am I'll give him like just a joy in my eyes we were literally planning the biggest game of the season and it's weak one and all I'm thinking about to see an old buddy yeah and that is that football does I was just going to say that's the fraternity that your brother can speak to your dad can speak to that you know when you see somebody that you played with it's like when I see Tom Thayer I see you know Richard dent or or you know anybody Dan handsome statement Michael it's like your mind goes right back to being on that crappy field up in Lake Forest for practice and going through all those difficult moments but it's just like the most special memory you'll ever have yeah and and it invokes a motion it really does yeah we all need deep therapy no question every time I really get real with anybody and talk football I'm talking about only includes allowing me to work on is jam master I got put on IR I'm talking to Lawrence homes about that the other day on radio row and I start getting choked up and I'm thinking to myself what other job them there's there's gotta be a few but one other jobs invoke this emotional visceral response from massive meat heads like myself you know what the other thing is and and I'm sure your dad also can you know speak to this is is much as you think and in this is that not to bring the conversation down but this was the thing about the the tragedy of Kobe Bryant's death and his daughter in the seven others just been specifically on Colby and we were going through the process and and we were talking about it and like it obviously if you know you remember the the great basketball plays in the great player that he was you know what I rooms remember in because it was freshest on my brain was how he had segue from being the best player in the league to a totally full it yeah yes to being a guy who found you know found a way to enjoy life as a father as a businessman as all these other vehicles it doesn't matter how much money you've made and how many accomplishments you've racked up big the change from doing something you've done since you were seven years old to not having that in your life again you could have a bank filled with money you could have a a mantle filled with trophies guy have a reason to get up every day it is a transition that that even those that feel their most well adjusted they struggle with the times I mean think about it there's nothing you can do maybe drive in one of those those hot wheels out in the desert you know it and and go one hundred ten miles an hour but name something to me that can replicate duplicate they can fill that void that is left by running out in the tunnel at Soldier Field in being introduces a starting right guard for the Chicago Bears or jumping in the ice bath after a two day with your body like I I would I Spath next to a keen hex and we would try to kill each other for three hours and you've seen it absolutely person but there's something about stand in the ice bath and sand Hey man we made it through the day and unless you've got plans to do something we were capable of doing either I mean like a you have ice baths at your house I don't you know we never you know it was really hard to route to duplicate that are to replicate that and I think that's the one thing that people people look at the fame and fortune in there like a you got it may I mean it yeah I'm nobody's asking for sympathy here but just to kind of the realization that trying to fill that void of you know that that you don't have anymore it's tough there is nothing that I want when I wake up in the morning it's not like I want more but what I what I do is I yearn for a feeling yes and a set of a mother she got from within someone's **** on third down and doing it with my buddies or get my **** kicked run third down which is happened to everybody you dance yeah tell me and I know there is something about that that special on it joins us Senate forever brotherhood which is why when he's like waters coming downstairs join us I light up like a kid on Christmas Eve like all great I love I mean I love this too we never played a snap together but I know him beyond the shadow of doubt because of that the Jersey he wore a helmet he chose to to where in the sport that he chose he was telling us yesterday that until this year when he's done that everything was a tax message away yeah or to show up you know being in the NFL trainer you need coffee we got it for a different places now he's walking down the street got to go to Starbucks I got lost this morning he let's see I learned how to what is stuff grows up you you got to learn how to told me there was an arrest the word they use it was Jason Lieser I was doing and an interview with him last week he actually picked me up from the airport in Miami to get an interview from me on the flight we came out yeah and he said it's almost an Arrested Development you're explaining tall no question and I only know the show Arrested Development but I'd put the phrase into a literal use and I said it has arrested my development it has I'm thirty one but I'm a sixteen year well you you and unfortunately Tarzan talk like boy well this is it and this is why I said that transition from being caught along with football player to Kyle long whatever it is you choose to do regardless of how well adjusted you are I mean I think that you will look back at you give me two years in your company so you know what was a little more difficult than I thought it would be ultimately you'll find your stride and find out whatever it is that you want to do but it's true I had the benefit though first of all that listen we played back in the archaic days where you had to do more you we have coffee machine you know and you're looking at a slim Jim the food truck come in on Wednesday right exactly and I was married already had a kid at least from you know the final two years of my life so I was I was you know kind of further along with you via that life aspect but it's it you know it ain't easy it ain't easy and the fun thing you that you'll find out doing this is is there is it and I I said you did attacks the other day there's a challenge that exists to and I think you met yesterday it was a tremendous message you can get your point across without either getting a personal or violating the relationships that you have in in it is a delicate balance for people that go from being on the field to being in the booth and it's not easy for a lot of people obviously father mastered it years and years ago but if you don't have the fear is that we have as athletes absolute knowing that your window of opportunity to play the game is closing and then you say well I know what's at the other side of this I have to kick in front of a Mike yeah and then I got to talk about my buddy yes and Kaplan is not gonna take it easy on her it's a trial I better have a full way of the yes you have process Eddie he's already I mean like I was listening to him and I'm like I know exactly what he's saying and I know you know it yet you protect the relationships you have you're not lying to people you're being Genya when you're being honest but you can do it without offending people and getting personal and that's the biggest that.

just Taylor for Tom Waddell red tailored for Carmen Felker Taylor for marks of in his says expiration twelve five twenty I mean he's got expiration date you're not you don't even given an engagement ring so many days we're here to co habitation made we're friends with benefits yeah you listen we're not getting married there will be no engagement there will be no party the we know it's hard swing yeah and we know that in two years your X. rays will arrive but we just need you to help us now with you guys I think it's fabulous idea I think the likelihood that it could ever happen could be their only hope they'll because honey your I only hope how many more coaches are they going to be a great question so you what you can well the here's the problem than it did then it can you it's Billy Martin was Steinbrenner yeah if you were the ones identifying these these guys don't you think that internally that at the very least packs thinks they're better than their plan all along I would I would think I mean it's only that point I would think that packs is then asking the question why are guys getting that means he furious that I don't want to I mean I don't know but but again it's it's identifying talent it's developing talent is you know we talked about it with the cubs I mean we talk about it with everyone always the record through fourteen games last year it was probably about the same so that it is a record Carmen's much is it's the I. tests it's fall I mean it's every combat you put it all together and and and they're losing the teams that they should be not the boxer bags yeah but you lost one handed that's too yeah you know you've lost the Cleveland lost any Max you know it went like while said they went scoreless for the last six twenty or whatever he got up at that podium any told people that they're growing the debt we grew tonight he said what do you grow Larry marketing was awful awful Jack Levine was awful hence my point it took a twenty game to play Gafford I know it shows it maybe should been playing earlier like again every now and again here every now and again even even a patient person with regard to press conferences would like to at least hear a little bit of honesty yeah I'm not suggesting to you that if they stand at the podium and they're honest with you and then hold people accountable that you're going to play any better but every now and again don't you just want a little bit of honesty yes just a little everybody deserves everywhere in his world he's being honest I don't know what Ryan pace say if you need it now what his honesty is we don't know but he was totally honesty among is that right last week by did a great right face impersonation about what he thought was a at the end of the year it's subtle yeah was awesome I'm just trying to get in right pace about I'm not surprised I don't know what he would say but I don't want to hear I mean this and again it doesn't you're right so we we still are you all the time with cap about you know I want I want it I want see with ally this and I'm I'm good with all that but every now and again especially when you saw or you're in the process of this Uranus sake stradley your terrible you know I mean every now to get it done heard maybe it's cathartic to stand up on the might of the microphone and it was a disaster right now it's on me to get a better right that's it it's like you know like when when Matt stands I don't think Matt lost his mind football wise I don't think he could've he could also stop the conversation with regard to the kicker against San Diego by just saying guys we have a look at we do have a process communication broke down because if it broke down because of me yeah you could stop the conversation away by the way yeah we've already had a check today your right to charge I just can't get around was it last night the quintessential Philip rivers game yeah one score he's driving down and he's gonna throw the only difference was it was Monday so sixty minutes wasn't coming up I think it is the Philip rivers game one you know down there either down seven to work in the worse he plays the more he yells at his team mates are morally Schaefer it's safe like Morley safer yeah he's actually shave needs is telling you that you know sixty minutes coming up except on the west coast your third eleven for it's every loss they have this year's by one score and he's like so classic full of rivers she I'm case is going to be up there because it's just not easy you know he cares he cares a lot now I I hear everybody understand we all want it now in this league listen Mitch is doing everything he can and he had this set back with the shoulder we were playing well against the Vikings of any of the injury in a room momentum in the line didn't play as well and we were breaking up and tell you that the whole point of Mets offense so what we believe in the player we really do and he's going to drive off in his Toyota and make a reservation under James big man we're gonna try to get I I did as good as solid I like it alright what's up on the show let me give this is all I'm ready when you guys got what he wanted one of the better ones that we received yesterday that you received yesterday around the bears topic yeah I wanna give you guys this is visor guy courtesy of Edward cook you'll remember he was a finalist last year with I wash my fruits so this is why I love that I lost my plumes an ode to nag you know now the visor you're making he's so Monica one is when these guys are you guys say bye bye it will be a way to get a put it on that we just need call your like judge Freeman you sadly you god mouth full of Ron shot gun right to the unemployment he has a crack or yeah he worked really good I think we've all said you know we had a preview we we should have known what was coming out as he told us and you're gonna get one of these guys is here we don't.

"Levels of defense gets gunk where corrosion friction and November snow tell me were playing golf a field well it could have you ain't gonna be anywhere close to is funded the ten interview with and in the back the three of you late the pure timberland and took you know turns kicking me in the marble that's not cool for a Friday either Fallon well what can we say you are we are we are four inches of snow and unfortunately a team that has an offense that somewhat bog down even though I will say this with all the talk about Mitchell to rescue with the bears he did get them down in a a manageable field goal position for the win both with his arm and is like so how much positive could be taken from that even though there are no moral victories we've seen that a bit Mike and whether it was it was Sunday against the Chargers and you're a hundred percent factually correct that yeah they they they he helped lead them down the field and put them in field goal range and if Eddie Pinheiro I don't know that he wanted to get from the left has the right past the middle hatches on the I don't know we still don't know the communication broke down there but the other part of this conversation though god as we saw this against the eagles in the post season last year is well after three quarters of just ineptitude on offense yet at the last minute they were able to rally and put themselves in position to win so I don't want to dispute that fact but they were one of five in the red zone in terms of efficiency and in the V. D. N. at play quarterback also was a big reason why they found themselves in the situation they did so what kind of a double edged sword yes in crunch time Mitch has been able to it's time to put them in position to to to pull a game out but by the same token when you look over the course of the the the three hour game and you see so many more things you don't like then you do like it leaves you in a bit of a quandary to say the least talking to Tom Waddell with us on the show opens all before time time we heard part of it in the open coming back from break point as things go poorly we search around for people to Bremen Mitchell's been easy in this but how much do we start to look at Matt Nagy in the way he's operated trying to or not being successful in fitting what Mitch can do best into this office right now yeah Mike I think it did I I I think it's a good question you have to share the blame I think some of the decision making has been questionable at times but you know how they handled the the clock management at the end of the first half was just strange the fact that they did decide to quit playing football with forty one second in a time out of their pocket at the end of the game I thought spoke volumes and then you are the comments from that after the game that there was no thought of running it or throwing it back that tells me that the he doesn't trust his quarterback any doesn't trust his offense in general and you live in joking fashion I've mentioned I I think that the that the quarterback is eaten the coaches brain at this point I just think that he hadn't been able to find any rhythm and he's so kind of twisted up with why it's not working that eight hundred inspect Matt Nagy decision and look I don't want to absolve him of the mistakes he made as a head coach but you know he's a young guy to Mitch is been a quarterback in the league longer than Max been a head coach in this league so for the first time in Matt young career he's having to deal with some real adversity and we'll see how they respond but yeah I would absolve evil either one of them of of of blame in this situation the combination of all someone with this from a ESPN one thousand is a great job with water and so be on the radio station in Chicago look tell me the way this division is shaking up you have the Packers at seven one Minnesota at six into the bears are actually in last place in that division right now and you know wildcard spots are going to be at a premium going forward with so many teams in the NFC with either one or only two losses of course the forty Niners sitting there on beaten is it safe to say that this game between the eagles and the bears this Sunday is hugely hugely important game and staying in the playoff picture yeah no doubt I'd tray I mean listen obviously actually it's not a must win because they've only played seven games but you know in the spirit of this game this is a must when they're in must win mode from here on out for the foreseeable future and but there's a lot of football left in this office finally eclipse the three hundred total yard mark in their their game against the Chargers and they finally committed to running the football so there are some things internally Alex so I think they're going to build on unfortunately they go on the road to Philly to face an eagles came they haven't been home in a month founder mo Jo last week in buffalo and it's starting to get healthy so this is going to be difficult hill to climb but yet you're not out of it until the critically the experts tell you you're out of it so a lot of football left but yeah no doubt I mean they have to look at each and every one of these games going forward is games that they have the wind so and and look at it these are moments as well for the young quarterback they're going to have to have a really difficult conversation throughout the end of this season and in the next season about the future of made show the added pressure pressure of not use what's happening now but what could happen in the future is weighing on the quarterback as well so lot of take over the next several weeks here in Chicago for our favorite football team yeah listen three game losing streak their eleventh place in the conference right now only four teams behind the cardinals the Buck the giants the fox Redskins so it's it's not great not great Bob right now the when I one of those drink that you guys were talking about a little bit earlier you're done shoveling the snow yeah by the news high tomorrow forty seven there you go yeah guys sorry they're doing this to you man that's cool but by the way can I get a shot at the junior per his sports center update when I heard him talk about the forty Niners in the past both being led by hot quarterback did you mean that figure deal of bigoted Lee as well as literally I thought that was hilarious I did best of both worlds Tommy listen good looks can take you far in this world there living proof of it amen brother you have it well this is what we we spent nothing the truth there you go rest well Tommy rest I will talk to you next week thanks so Golden we goes presented by "Tell them Tom Waddell sent you hello just good evening Jay hi how you doing pal doing very well good to be able to watch some a west coast baseball the cubs in the giants tonight before we go into some of the news and notes from the cubs as well to get your thoughts because you and I are pretty much the same age watching the Lee Smith and Harold Baines growing up for your thoughts on them going to the hall of fame well they're both dominant in their own ways I know that people you know criticized beans induction a little bit but but that doesn't take away from how dominant he was with the white Sox that thing that stands out for both players especially beings I guess is the longevity I mean to be that good for that long is as impressive as as just you know the big years that they both had but they were good for a long long time and that's what stands out to me the most now is more of a cub fan growing up watching Lee Smith just completely dominate I mean the cubs were spoiled in one sense they're great closers back in the day Bruce suiter was amazing Lee Smith was amazing and know those guys help some of the best all time cops are obviously Lee Smith among that group now that he's in the hall of fame so the long the out the outstanding our production and longevity stands out to be for both those guys are is take a look at some of the news and notes around the comes with the latest on Wilson contrary us all right I think he's gonna be activated Wednesday I mean he was pretty much ready a few days ago according to him at least but they didn't want to take any chances to give a little bit of break member he second half last year wasn't very good they need him down the stretch they need that that fresh bat so it was a chance we chose actually talked about this before Jay who do you love for like every regular player to have that little break at some point when the grind gets it at its toughest and and come back we clear like you can't give crisp right a full week off without a reason for you kick it will skip first ten days out without a reason for but Joe would love to do it if it didn't you know completely derail your season of course so there there they survived they thrived actually without will secure traverse they like the fact that he got some extra days rest so he's going to be activated I imagine we'll start on Wednesday and then of course the big question is what do they deal with the three catchers do they keep three do they go down to to do they send Kartini down as they move now the nado today flip from here before the deadline all that is still in play they have not come up with the answer just yet sometimes things reveal itself you know maybe somebody you know tweak something and all of a sudden you you have your answer for you come Wednesday but the next forty eight hours we'll we'll we'll we'll hear about some discussions and they get an answer Wednesday what they're going to do with the three catchers Jesse Rogers covers the cubs for ESPN dot com joins me Johnson hood on under the hood on ESPN one thousand ESPN app so Jessie I'm sure you saw this on your time line and this is units is coming Addison Russell's a lot of I told you so out there based on how he performed again base running question marks defensively he spoke to Addison Russell loses some of his box well I will say this and I'm sure this sort of correlates to his personal life he's been very accountable regarding his baseball are playing this year he's always been at his locker when needed I say that is not avoiding anything in fact and hi this is strange I don't think I've ever had a player offer up unintentional mistake based on old unsolved yelling at me right now cancers you don't really get off the phone I don't think I've had met a player offer up an additional mistake compounded with the ones he's already made one I'm getting at is he admitted to me he's also missed signs on the basis for at the plate he's missed signs from his third base coach you're talking about a guy that's made mental mistakes in the bases missed signs hasn't been able to track down pop ups I mean it was an overall just terrible weekend and I don't think it was the first time he was talking about missing sign so he is he is being at least accountable for his mistakes now what you gonna do about it he vows to focus in a little bit better I think part of it in his mind is he's not playing every day soul what he gets in there he's all anxious wants to do so much I talked to Joe privately about this this this mess that is I don't care that he's not playing every day I'm paraphrasing Joe he's got a focus when he's in there you can't you can't play the game any different if you're in there once every three days compared to when you're in there every day so he's aware of his mistakes a heart that that's of course one aspect to this whole thing admit your mistakes but now you have to do something about it and that includes watching and focusing in on the third base coach which apparently is a problem as well Jesse this is it just seems those that he came back because you want to help the ball club you went through his rehab is just a guide to diss and seem the same you know we were looking for the W. pointing up for Addison Russell before all this was that he have dealt with pages you can just see that he's just not the player that I think the in in Jeff thought he would be it you know sometimes you get bounced back from your troubles it doesn't seem like that guy yeah and maybe this is the reason number back when they when they retained him in kept I mean everything I I reported it as they did the research that people that have been players that have been suspended for this violation none of them none of them have returned to their old jeans they've all moved on say be short fifteen game one I think Stephen right a red Sox had a minor violation they've all moved on maybe it's just not a terrible situation to return your old team and thrive I'm not he it wasn't behaving you'd be gone but he's not exactly thriving maybe it's just too much on a player especially game that's very mental for him to be able to succeed in the baseball sense as he's trying to succeed in his personal life as well so maybe this is the reason most of them were bought and maybe it is the the the you know it it'll lead to Addison moving on here as well whether be July thirty first or during the off season so yeah he's not the same player he was the sixteen we know why he wasn't in seventeen eighteen but coming back from suspension and going through counsel you thought maybe they're the Errol you know could eventually eventually be pointing up again forcing too much of inconsistent playing no Joe still like some on defense Justin happened on Saturday Jesse Rogers with Jonathan hood on ESPN one thousand ESPN out any word on the line up today yeah I'm is pretty much what you'd expect formers back up their number one by used to the key is rubble Garci gets another start I like that people clamoring for Ian happ all the sun and have missed the boat rebel Garcia's done pretty well seven extra base hits he spent fifty key spot there you know it's it's your your I. L. Morrison center so those of course but the question second basin and center from a night day to day basis and he's got rubble Garcia the better hitter in their L. mora the better defensive player in in center field so no big surprise there Russell has not started the last two games after that awful awful afternoon on Saturday you can understand why you get a lot of questions in your time on about Ian happ though right because you know the the the one thing that you know what the cubs at last few years there's always been that magic somebody that can come off the bench give you a spark and also someone that is flexible to play a number of different positions and so maybe that's what companies are looking at if if if not Zobrist may be happy I think that's what they're looking at yeah I know J. lo but I will tell you this is this is my pet peeve it's the it's the backup quarterback syndrome everybody wants that got in the minors everyone hated Ian happ last year now they're planing form meanwhile they got a guy from Italy that's actually producing give him a little playing only one oh for for yesterday give him a shot here got three homers two triples for god sakes I mean nobody napa's two triples at triple a all season long so I'm not gonna get seen happen it's just this writing for the next guy the next guy the next guy well everyone you don't want it yet half office team a year ago so let's give it global Garcia a little more respect than that I I understand what you're saying but they need guys that can hit they they don't have a stick lengthy line up right now they've stars their top heavy but it's not lengthy and rubber Garcia's provide a little bit of a boost at least all right it anything else man say that stood out to you that you could tell us well a bit about Carl Edwards I'm going down I mean you said it plainly this guy's got to find it again I you know wasn't a long ago Joe called him the linchpin to the season in the sense in that pope and because of the stuff that he can do against left handed batters well you saw what he did yesterday against Greg Garcia fireball after fireball after fireball before idiom just doesn't have that dynamic stop and mentally he still up and down as well so I think it's very telling that he has sent down after just one appearance after coming off the injured list I mean that usually we we we might be critical that we need to get one shot but I don't think anybody's been critical of the cubs for sending him down after just one appearance so this is a guy that you know for lack of a better way of putting it completely lost right now and they are not I I think they have now turned the corner on counting on him in any significant way this season I said earlier today on the radio I would be surprised if it's if it the next time we see in your September first when rosters expand not saying that's for sure but that would not shock me they know who they're plus or a relievers are and call it worse is just completely fallen out of favor in that regard I can pinpointed my friend spring training when you told me that Carl Edwards was working on a wind up then changed it back to where he was he was never the same I did March that's when it started out yeah you know it's interesting he stated in the last couple seasons and you know they were trying to get him to play a full season this year I think they're gonna be careful was workload is a smaller thinner thinner guy they were gonna yeah watch the latest season back to backs pretty he got offered a terrible foot partly because that delivery so he's never really had a stretch agreement maybe one maybe one this year where he's looked like the old CJ Edwards but I mean he was really.

"Cutler lucky in the top hundred flawed. Don Pearson is not, he's one of the great football writers. The sport is seen. He's the best. This city is seen. And he is kind enough to join us right now, here on ESPN thousand Don. How are you, man? Good morning. I'm doing great. I can tell this is success already because it's a started provoke all kinds of arguments. We just don't want the players to know about it. So when you look at this list, and you guys have released seventy six to one hundred where's Tom Waddell? Is he in the top seventy five? Well, I guess you'll find that out in the next couple of days. But I don't happen to see him off hand on my list. But we'll, we'll let that for another. We'll find that out soon. Let's talk about Jay Cutler at number eighty five. I get that he's going to be in the top hundred I get that he holds all the passing records until Trubisky puts those away was that, who they're a lot of discussion aware J should fit on this list. Well, I think what this shows you. I told the bears one of the stories that we were going to have to write for this book. Is there one hundred years search for a quarterback? Yep. And so the, the list is very long when it comes to great quarterbacks at bears. Anybody that's watched the various well knows, so Jay got on the list because he also records. But one of the records that was out to us, and it's not a very good record is that was exactly five hundred as a quarterback. And the most important step for quarterback is to win games in our Binion. He I think lost one fifty one in lost it. That's unbelievable. Any one playoff game? Right. Which, yeah, I guess he did. Yes. Yeah. So if you did. Go ahead. If he did not have the number of records that he holds right now, was there chance he would not have made the one hundred. Boy, I think they're probably would have been made. But, but like you say you get a hundred players over years, you better have more than two or three quarters. You'd hope you'd have more than two or three quarterback. So he sort of made it by default. I'm afraid. Yeah. Absolutely. I in terms of some of the guys that obviously are going to be on this list are going to be in that final grouping near the top, Walter Payton, dick Butkus. Where are you on who the greatest player to ever wear the bears uniform is because you think of linebackers you think of Butkus you think of defensive lineman, you think of Dan, Hampton, you think of running back, you obviously think of Walter Payton quarterback, probably think of sid Luchman sad as it is that's like seventy eight years ago where are you on? We're Walter fits in the pantheon of bears players. Well, I'll tell you he's he, he was he was pretty much. A unanimous number one pick I'd have to say, but I'll also have to say that Dan night, a lobby to make this really three list to make it a little easier on us a one for offense one for defense and one for two way players because we're trying to compare people from over eras over a hundred years. And it's really apples to oranges sort of been much easier for us to make an offense of list, a defensive list, and a two-way test, and that would have been Walter Payton, dick Butkus, and Bronco Nagorski. So as you can imagine they were right up there at the top of the of the all time list, because they wouldn't do three different less. They made us put it all in one list, I would imagine go ahead. Also have to say that, that has been very difficult cap this, this, this, this final twenty five where the hardest because you can engine anybody can name the top seventy five. You might argue over the order, but the then then. Get closer to the bottom there. There were probably be forty or fifty candidates those last twenty five spots. So this was very the this, this was the toughest part, I would imagine that there's two kickers that are going to be somewhere on this list because Kevin Butler had an amazing career as bears kicker, and Robbie gold had an amazing career as a bears kicker. How did you way special teams versus guys that, you know, we're in the trenches playing every day? Well, that was another problem, and as you can see number one hundred here as Patrick Manley deserve L have to you have to say, we, we have that was because of a little bit of levity. We had to have a little bit of fun with this. But Patrick Manley played more games for more years than any other bear. And so he had that going for him. But it was sort of a tribute to special teams to have him on here. And you can argue sure there were better poison Patrick Manley. But they certainly wasn't a better long, snapper. And I agree. You can't you can't ignore Robbie gold. Here's a guy who is, is by far and away their best kicker and kickers. Get better over the years. But a guy we had to leave off with a guy named automatic, Jack Manders, let the league in kicking three three different times, which is more than Robbie gold ever did so, so different their, their, we've tried to put his many objective criteria as we could into this. But in the end it was Dan. In my opinion mainly. Yeah. The amazing thing is if you did this list for you. Ten of the best franchises in the history of the sport. You took New England in the Packers and the colts and the ones that have been around a long, long time the list that they would have with quarterback versus what the bears have is. Absolutely ridiculous, right? There's no doubt about it. No doubt about that. That's a it's a good thing. We didn't do a by positions because it'd be hard to come up with a top ten quarter next to the bears. Okay. Told Don Pearson with all the years of experience that you have that were having a draft. And you got to pick up a player non quarterback, you get the first pick. Are you taking a running back? It's all bears players all time. Are you taking Walter are you taking Dan Hampton who was absolutely an animal inside who would be your first pick if you were building team of all bears players all time? The best player I ever saw in my whole life. And, and, and believe me, one of the reasons I they had me do this book because I've been around for most under deers, Walter Payton. Right. Walter Payton that being said I think I would probably my favorite player to watch and Puffer dick, dick Butkus. And I think I might pick him. And then hope that he would play for ten or eleven or twelve years, like Walter did. So I'm quitting. But between those two I would be hard to go wrong. Yeah. Absolutely. The way that running backs are valued today is different than when Walter got it because it's so much more of a passing league. So maybe Walter dozen go number one. Where were you on Dan Hampton as a football player because he could play tackle he could play end. And he was just an animal. Well, he was he was my first pick to go into the hall of fame. Of that eighty five team because of his contribution, and especially when they put him over the notion of sixty fence, that's really what made the forty six that's that's where it's hard. And if you ever talked to Larry McCarron, the former great center at at Green Bay, he'll, he'll talk to you for a half an hour about what Dan Hampton meant to that team in, especially the forty sixty fence when they moved him over the nose and absolute. Nobody could handle him on one. All.
