Randle scores 43, Knicks stay hot with 122-120 win over Heat
"The Knicks stretched their winning streak to 8 games by pulling out a one 22 one 20 victory at Miami. Julius Randle nailed the go ahead three pointer with 1.7 seconds left and finished with 43 points on 16 of 25 from the floor. Nick's coach Tom thibodeau marveled at Randall's game winning shot. Unbelievable. You know, so tough shot, put it in, you know, tip your hat. Randall also was 8 of 13 from three point range. Jimmy Butler scored 33 points and Tyler hero added 29 for Miami, including a layup that put the heat up by one with 23.1 seconds left. I'm Dave ferry.

"So Chris, what do you make of their offensive struggles? Are you willing to chalk it up to, hey, they need their guys back or are you now in a position where you're maybe worried about Milwaukee? So I'm going to put a lot of it on just they have the 5th worst offense in the NBA. Right. So you mentioned before those Tom thibodeau bowls, which I always thought that they were really interesting from the standpoint of they obviously played a lot of time without Derek rose. And they held their own, you know, largely because of what you pointed out, they played their best players long minutes, even when rose was out, which was risky given that rose might have gotten hurt for that same reason. Anyway, you know, they could hold the fort for just long enough, but then I've always wondered, and there's not really a way to determine it definitively. But I've always wondered if when a team goes without a guy for so long, then they finally get that guy back and then they're right back out of the lineup again because they get hurt or because they like physically aren't right. I've always wondered if that kind of like it would be like if you ran a marathon, you get to the finish line and then when you get through the finish line, I actually got another four miles coming around. Like that has to be just kind of like, God, you know, I'm tired, I'm exhausted. And I think the bucks have enough defense to stay competitive and win a lot of these games. But one, Giannis can't play every minute because butt is not going to butt is not going to be Jason Kidd here and play his superstar 8 million minutes. If anything, we've seen the opposite in the playoffs before where he's subbing on us out with like two minutes left in a game to get him a breather. But I just wonder on some level are the guys exhausted from trying to hold down the fort for so long with that Middleton. Also Middleton is like the most traditional star have, really. Right. Where I just kind of feel like creating Giannis is capable of doing it obviously is a great passer, but he's got deficiencies that make Middleton the more dangerous player of the two. In certain moments, which is why that's stupid thing a playoff run or two ago where we were like, you know, Batman and Robin, but honest is Robin. You remember, so but if you have to have those conversations, there's obviously some truth to it that Middleton is just the guy that he's more of a mid range threat. You know, he's more of a three level scorer than Giannis. So I think that that takes a toll. I mean, if you look at it just on a base level, the role guys, a lot of the bench players have just not shot well this year. Bobby portis has had a perfectly fine year, but he's shot 32% from three. Pat Connaughton normally a very good three point shooter, one of the ones they rely on the most as a role guy shooting 31% George Hill 31%. Joe inglis, who's new to the rotation, but like his playing 20 minutes a game, 31%. So Wes Matthews 31%.

"And you then continue down this road of trying to get a star, right? Like you have all these extra assets, you traded the 11th overall pick for three first round picks from the Oklahoma City Thunder. You have this extra Dallas pick still. You have your picks, like there's a lot of, there are a lot of avenues that could open up down the road, even if there isn't a star available right now. There are avenues that could open up down the road that could make this look different in hindsight. I don't even want to say it looks bad because I don't know that it doesn't look bad. I don't think I'm quite as low on this as everyone else seems to be. I don't know that I love it. It's just not sexy. There's nothing sexy about bringing in Jalen Brooks. He doesn't sell jerseys, man. It's not, it's not anything like what the next did, but that might be a benefit. That might be more of a feature than a bug. But the nets are doing. As it worked yet. So you have Tom thibodeau is your head coach. You're going to be winning on effort and grit and probably burning dudes out. There's only so many point guards that can actually do that. What Tom thibodeau wants them to do in the league. Jalen Brunson is unquestionably one of them. So it's a great move for the Nixon that regard. It just doesn't win the PR game. And it's not ultimately what needs to be done. It can't be it for them. And I'm really glad that you brought up the three lefties thing because again, I have no idea what you do with Julius Randle. And I think that there's a lot of that Julius Randle aftermath that's sort of seeping into this where, okay, now the Knicks are all in on Jalen Brunson, like this, again, moving heaven and earth to get him. Well, they gave all the money to Julius Randle after one year. Jalen Brunson's breakout year was then one year really. I know it's been developing here for a minute, but he really came through one year. There's not a lot of faith in the rose administration. Yeah. Yeah. Where he's a $27 million player, it's been one year, for sure. Totally. So I understand who are starving for a true superstar. One, they're not getting it, even though it's going to be a damn good player for them. And two, there's not a lot of faith in the fact that the Nixon have done business up until this point where they've overpaid overachievers. And you can look at Jalen Brunson, and I don't think this is correct, but you can look at Jalen Brunson and say, here we go again. So they need to do something else than the issue is. It's still the Knicks. It's still the white points next. And I don't know who's deeply interested outside of Donovan Mitchell of going in and I don't know if Donovan Mitchell changes everything for them either. Yeah, like and it seems like Donovan isn't available first and foremost as well. He also is under contract by the Utah JS. Yeah, so like I think that'd be cool. Like go get Donovan Mitchell, that'd be great..

Listen and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, I mention Kemba Walker. That's the news of Monday. Tom thibodeau came out and told reporters that Kemba Walker is out of the rotation in New York. This has been a wild ride for Kemba Walker over the first 20 ish games of this next season. He started out playing really well at one point he was shooting like 56% from three, those numbers have cratered, and now it's Alec Burks that is the starting point guard for the Knicks in Kemba Walker for now is out of that rotation. What's your reaction to Kemba's very short honeymoon in his hometown? Brutal, just brutal. Let's talk about on a human level first because it was such a celebrated homecoming in Kemba Walker, one of the all time good guys in the league and he was so excited to come home, come home to New York and play for the Knicks. And, you know, there was there was such a poetic element to this in a very just endearing emotional aspect of that whole story. And I think everybody wanted the best. Obviously, the Nixon Kemba wanted the best, but I think all of us who, you know, love following canvas career. A good homecoming story is irresistible. And Kemba's enthusiasm for playing at the garden playing for the Knicks was just, you know, it was moving, frankly, but these homecomings often don't go as planned. So that when Stefan marbury came to the Knicks, we've seen it with other players in other places as well. Look, the risks of Kemba Walker were all known when they signed him. I mean, he'd have multiple years running of declining production and declining health..

"I am this would be an enormous deal for the Knicks in my opinion. The number 19, the Knicks are I think probably going to lose Nerlens Noel in free agency just cuz it's really hard for them to retain him unless they really want to dive deep into their office space. Deep but I think it's going to cost real amount of money to retain him in their cap. Space Mitchell Robinson is already on the scene. Miss Robinson is really effective as a rim protector. This would be kind of the perfect complement next to Mitchell Robinson or you know Off the Bench with Mitchell Robinson early in his career as an elite-level pick-and-roll Defender Huang Versatile who can do a lot of different schemes provide, a lot of different coverage looks to opposing offenses. He needs to shoot it like the offense has to get better, but I think Aruba is currently the best defensive player in this draft right now. If we're speaking today, and I would take him at number nineteen. I would love to have taken him earlier than this, but it's like imagine how you do much, Tom Thibodeau loves Taj Gibson, like, oh yeah. This is this is that. Yeah. But with more upside defensively than Tha Jazz and and just younger and I know he spend the Real Madrid system forever but you still kind of scratching the surface of what he could be as an offensive place. I don't think it's close. Then the defense is is wild and a good sense and just a crazy amount of energy and motor that also coached him to do really values and the franchises start to Value since he's gotten over. But I guess my, my question to you is when you watched the the fever game, just real quick. Sure, did you take anything out of there? With said this guy should go up 10 spots. I know score a couple of buckets, early birth And you spot me switch to guard to rant cards and postcards, and wings some guards. Did that do anything for you? Or you were kind of already set on what he was, as a prospect and just more reinforced than I opened anything off. Definitely more reinforced, if only because it was still on an international Court, where the court is still a bit, more condensed than if it was like an NBA court size or spacing out for like twenty six feet and he really has to guard out on an island. Like he did a really good job..

"Today. Meanwhile, the school Tom Thibodeau won coach of the year yesterday. Congratulations to Tibbs again. He's a friend. Um, he came and worked here at ESPN. He was a regular on get up for Was it two seasons? How long was he with us? It was 1.5. Right? Because I I think was he let go. He was with us for quite a while. He did. He did at least a couple dozen chose. Yeah, He was with us a lot older, the playoff run of 2019, and he's an excellent analyst and a good guy, and I thought deserving, but what I will say is, he just sort of edged out Monty Williams and I did see some complaining. On Twitter last night that Monty Williams accomplishment this year was greater than what Tom Thibodeau did, and that if Monty Williams had done what he did in New York rather than Phoenix, That he would have won coach of the year to which I reply. Yeah. Exactly. The Knicks have been so bad for so long. People forget how favorably people talk about them. I remember this vividly because I was covering the visiting team. I was covering the Bulls when they were going up against the Knicks in the nineties and all of the conversation about how the Knicks get favorable treatment. Get all the attention. Get all this. That and the other and yes, that's right. It is actually underscores why it is so unimaginable and disgraceful. They've been so bad for so long because they have so many built in advantages. People in this town are still talking about the Knicks. Now they've been had for a week, the next just one by 40 points. People are talking about the Knicks. That's who the Knicks are. So if you're complaining that the Nixon and their coach got special attention, because he coaches the next well, just where have you been? I guess the reality is you haven't been around a team that mattered in 20 years that that really is what that told me. When I was reading those because if this had happened 20 years ago, wouldn't have even been discussed, and no one would have said a word. Of course, the coach of the Knicks got coaching here. It's not even worth talking about. It was either the guy in New York are the guy coaching the Phoenix Suns. I mean, these things aren't that complicated doesn't make them right. They just are not everything that is, is right. Lots of things are and are wrong. This is it is, it doesn't make any difference if it's right or not. So that's what happened last night. I was watching that yesterday. He's You know, The other thing about Tibbs is he was fun last night with those guys I was watching. He was on the Did you see it? The pre game with him and Barkley and Ernie and all those guys, you know, he's lightened up a little. He's laughs a little bit. You know, he's the most intense person you'll ever meet. He is a very intense person, but I do think he's lightened up a little bit, and it was nice to see him like that. This year was kind to him. It's also worth reminding fans that this is merely a regular season a war. There's some Recency bias here because the Knicks, the not advanced The funds did, But that's a big part of this, too. Like the Sun's winning in the first round in advancing past, the Lakers or people are thinking, just like any time you'll see like Johannes wins the MVP award. They get knocked out early in the playoffs, and people freak out. That's not how it works. Right? Right. It is a regular season award. Even though I've never been convinced that should be I have. I've taken this position before. That the NBA is a sport that is so postseason dominant now. Where the post season is so much more important than the regular season. And I think this is a terrible thing terrible. No one seems to be able to do enough about it. I give Adam credit. He's trying. He tried with the postseason play in tournament and I believe he'll try other things. Look, Let's just talk Turkey here, okay? If you love then it's good for you. God bless you. Your team is great. But the bottom line of it is this. The Nets just absolutely dismissed the regular season. They just did. He acted as though it doesn't matter..

"Philadelphia will steamroll Washington. Maybe Washington wins the game. You know they could. I don't even think they'll win two games. Russell Westbrook report of a good A bunch of good stats, Bradley bills a heck of a player. It's amazing that he stayed there that long. Philadelphia's just a better basketball team, and Philadelphia is unconscious in their building. I expect Philadelphia to in the first two. You know, I would say it's a gentleman sweep. Wizards will get one in their building. And Philadelphia will take care of the Wizards in five games would not surprise me, though, if it sweeps The Knicks and the Hawks. In the east. This is actually my favorite series in the first round. I know some people probably expect to be bucks and heat. Like the next in the Hawks the best because This is really their championship for both these teams. No one thought the next are gonna be here before the season started. Give him credit. Leon Rose, Tom Thibodeau. It's been wonderful. You have Derrick rose six men in the year. You have Julius Randle, finalist for six men of the year. He's not gonna win it. Julius Randle. Finalists for most improved player. Tom Thibodeau, finalists for coach of the year. What the Knicks have done in this one year has been marvelous. That's marvelous. That's what has been there in the playoffs since 2013. So give the Knicks credit for getting there. They deserve a standing ovation. Atlanta with the start that they got off, too, and there was entry with Atlanta this year going into the season, that's the way to get to the finals or anything. If they could take that next step. They got rid of Lloyd Pierce. Remember, a lot of people were critical of that. And Nate McMillan should have never been fired by the Pacers got promoted, and then they're the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. This is gonna be a tough physical. Syriza's I'm going to go with Tom Thibodeau and Julius Randle. I'm just going to trust them or Even though I love Trey Young. Just look at the Knicks. As a teen. I think they are not that Atlanta's not, but I just think the Knicks with the success that they've had this year. And the way that They have just been such a tough team. Look at R. J. Barrett having some big moments here, and I like the Knicks and a seven game series and home court advantage could be a big factor with that New York crowd that's gonna get like over 25,000 fans. Madison Square Garden. Bucks, and he This is ah, Big serious that you circle the two serious that your circle and the Eastern Conference Knicks, hawks, bucks and heat. There's no excuses for the box. And I love Jimmy Butler. I don't like picking against Jimmy Butler with the addition of Drew holiday. Now we're gonna learn a lot about the bucks. And just like the Clippers, the regular season was really a relevant for them. Now it's go time. I want to see Buck's net. I think we will see Buck's nets. As the Bucks will beat the heat and what could be a tough series. I'll be very impressive. The Bucks go win this series in five games. I'm gonna take the bucks and six and I'm gonna take the nets and five up against the Boston Celtics. So in the West Have the Jazz Clippers meeting around too. Denver on the Lakers meeting around two Sixers and the Knicks and then the books and the Brooklyn Nets. First round NBA predictions 855 to 1 to four CBS. It is exact help show we will take a time out, and when we come on back, Julio Jones could be on the move. Have a few teams that I think should go make a run at Julio Jones, two teams and particular. And I think No, Who's going to get him? I don't know if you'll be surprised by that we'll get to that in.

"Impact of a guy like Tom Thibodeau in New York. And I'd argue the second guy are another guy who's had the most impact in his first year in a team and I'm not gonna count James Harden. The other blade a long time. But besides, Thibodeau is a coach. I think Chris Paul's means extra greatest impact. You can make us a player and I mean nobody's talking about Chris Paul, which is ridiculous because they might win the West. And you know, I get back to your cage. I'm not sure why there's you know feelings that he shouldn't be When it I think what helped him what should help him in, and I said this at the time when Jamal Murray went down to that injury I'm sitting there saying all right, if anybody else doubts about yoke its yet see what Yokich does now, between the time that that your mom Marie has been lost to Denver, their second best player and where he can take this team. Have a chance to finish third. I think they're 10 and three without Jamal Murray. That should be the capper for yoga. The Robin that should be the end of the argument that he has made players better. Despite the fact that they have lost your mom or I haven't gone backwards. They have actually gotten better with a chance to get third. But overall, you know, Yokich has been, you know he's 1/4 place finish. I think a couple years ago in the M V P. I just don't think people No, we We always look at the honest Sis and the LeBron's obviously as the guys but no and Yokich plays every game. I mean, this is a season where people are talking about. Oh, my God, the MBA. It's been a ridiculous schedule on it has been a very tough schedule for players. And up Until a few weeks ago, he kept on hearing about Jo Ellan beats name They were rewarding him people for despite the fact he's missed 19 games, you're going to reward somebody this year, the league's biggest honor, the M V. P. How about how about giving a few extra points to a guy's played in every game like he has Chris Paul, by the way, who played point guard has at his age is only missed one. Me. Those guys were one too. Yeah, Look, I mean, I think the honest also has had a great year. He's not gonna get it three years in a row, but clearly it's going to be Yokich at this point in the season, so it's a gears a little bit. I had mentioned James Harden before and Mitch when the James Harden trade went down for Brooklyn. At that moment, it felt more like a luxury than a necessity. But it's clearly been More of the latter. And you look at it the Nets or 27 7 with James Harden their under 500 without him there even under 500 games where Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have played together, I think in some ways, you know hard may have saved this whole Durant Kyrie era. He may have saved those guys from a lot of criticism as well. How much do you read into what we've seen from Brooklyn? As of late and how much of that is just sort of like you can't say too much about it. Because you know that that Hardin is on the way back. Well hardens on the way back. We'll see what happens with him. Everything you've said about him in terms of the impact is true. I always felt even when they made the trade, even when he pulled in Houston. I felt the version they're going to get him. It's like, why do you need Kyrie? Irving Now you still want to have Kyrie Irving, but I've always felt that Hardin is a better player. He sets up people better, and I think that's one of the things that you're referring to. When you talk about their record is The floor is space better. He just is a better natural playmaker carries a wonderful score, and we all know he's tremendous ist as a finisher became part of the better player. I mean, James Harness an M V P Type of player and I used to think that the key for the Nets in terms of long run would be the health of Kevin Durant. I've kind of changed my mind. I mean, Kevin Durant still is the best player there when everybody is healthy. Boy, They better have James Harden because I just don't know if hardness compromised If he's diminished, Robin, what kind of run them that the Nets can make, especially because we all know it's it's all about their offense. They're not going to stop a lot of people in the playoffs. They're not built that way. They've gotten a little bit better, but really their thing is going to be there. Going to outscore people and heart is gonna have a lot to do with it. So I'm very like everybody else. I'm very interested to see how the what happens when he gets back. The other thing I'll mention to is And this will not be a small detail. Steve Nash is a rookie coach in his first playoff run. We're gonna see what kind of adjustments he makes. We're gonna see what happens on an 18 No. One running a playoff game if the Nets are unfortunate to be on the wrong end of that, if he calls time out If he ends up costing them a game. We'll see. We've never been in that pressure situation, So it's it's all in front of Brooklyn. But who knows? At this point what they're going to be able to do. It'll be interesting to see They've been the best story maybe to follow all season. Mitch Appreciate your time this morning. Have a great rest your weekend. You too, Robin. Appreciate it. Thanks. Mitch, Laurence, Sirius, XM MBA and Mad Dog. Radio. You know, I understand where he says Kevin Durant, still the best player on this. I actually think it's it's James Harden. I've been I've been swayed this year by hardens play and in his impact, But you know when you're talking about guys better are that good? It's always hard to make a pick or a decisive decision. Just like if you were trying to determine whether something is a rat, or it is a raccoon. It's very tough. Very tough, just like that's why Francisco Lynn Door of the New York Mets and his teammate McNeil got into it in the tunnel, apparently and Linda or says it was because they could not determine the identity of a creature that they said Hey, I've never seen a new your ass, so we went down sprinting. I want to go see the New York rat and he got mad at me. He's like, No, It's not a rat. Is that raccoon? I'm like Hell, no man, is that them? Rap is a New York rap man. I was just crazy because we were going back and forth debate if he was around a raccoon. On and it gets worse and it gets worse and he just doubled and tripled. Let me play you this next one. Why did all the other players rushed to see what was happening in the tunnel of the rat man? They couldn't believe. We're going.

"Wagers. And before we hand it off to Danny, Honey, before we get out here, we got to go back to. I looked up all the salaries at the break. How truly ridiculous, Gar And John were with some of the decisions. They signed. Holy smokes. Yeah, So there's a lot to clean up there, isn't it? My God. All right, Danny. All right, gentlemen, we spent a good portion of time talking about Carson Wentz. Let's continue. What's up, buddy? Sound beautiful. Doug Peterson and Matt Maggie have a long history together as assistant coach is supposedly they are very tight. If Carson went is not the guy that Matt Maggie should bet his career on shot or no shot Doug Peterson, his friend. Would have already given Maggie the heads up and put an end to this nonsense. Shot. If Look, I was talking to Dani earlier and I said, Okay, Danny, let's fast forward. You're the program director of X Station. And you call me and you go. Hey, man you worked with so And so What do you think of that guy? If I said to Danny is closest we are even though we butt heads. Danny, don't you dare hire that guy. Bad, dude, You don't want him uncoachable he would be, it'll be a nightmare. Danny's gonna go. OK, I'm moving on to my next guy, right? Yeah, I'd take your word for it because you work with someone. You trust them. You have to trust their opinion. Correct? Yeah, I would. I would say the same. I would say that it's sometimes you just have to be able to ask someone else. Hey, I wasn't close to the situation. You know this particular player? What do you think before I pulled the trigger or suggest tougher management what we should do, so I think that's just good business. So the second part of that is shot or no shots, since it seems as if the Bears are still going down this road with the Eagles. Shot or no shot. Doug Peterson gave Matt Meggie the blessing. Ready. Gave Matt Meggie the blessing, I would say shot. I would say shot to that. If they're going down this path, if they are, If they're still going down the path which were led to believe by everybody, Yes. None of whom they are in that room. But I Adam Schefter xyz close to in that room as you can get. If Jesse, right, if they truly are going down the path yes shot. Then Doug Peterson has given his blessing. Absolutely. All right, gentlemen, moving on staying with football TV. Only US Super Bowl watching audiences were down less than 92 million. It's the lowest to watch a Super Bowl since 2006. So I ask you guys shot her No shot. The pandemic Canceling Super Bowl party proves one thing that people could care less about the actual game of football. I'm going to say no shot because streaming numbers were an all time record total in terms. You're exactly right about the TV ratings. I think that may have affected people having the parties and watching all of that, but it's still That the Goliath of sports in this country? Yeah, it's it was still on. But in different sources, I think every year we do this, Danny, we are going to get this form The MBA Major League Baseball will get this from soccer, possibly and definitely the NFL when their arm or than one source to be able to watch a game. On your phone's streaming watching to traditional networks. I think that the numbers will go down some. I don't think there was TV's turned off across the country just because we're in a pandemic, it was still interesting storyline. The NFL Even as a college football fan. I could tell you the NFL's of king of sports, and it draws a big number. So even though it was down, I think it was up on other platforms for the Super Bowl. All right, gentlemen, the Pistons agreed to trade Derrick Rose to Tom Thibodeau in the New York Knicks shot or no shot. Fido. Bringing Derrick Rose to New York is a make good for earlier in their careers together. Uh, Wow. Um, make good. He's saving him from Detroit. Uh, well shot for sure. Okay. That part shot. You know what? Derek? I ran you into the ground. I broke you all stop. I may be responsible for putting your career to where it is. Now you're in Detroit, which is like being in Siberia. Guess what? I'm bringing you to the New York yet no shot because Derek actually re signed after being with Detroit when he hit the market. He and other teams express interest. He actually enjoyed playing there from what I heard, and Tom truly thinks Derek makes him a better basketball team and Derek and Tom, despite what people who are on the minutes. Police want to believe Derek and Tom are exceptionally close, and Derek did not think he was overused. I think that Tom Thibodeau if we know anything about Tom Tom likes likes veteran players, and he's trying to win now, and that's why Taj Gibson is on the roster. If joke him No was available. I'm sure he'd bring Joe came back because he trust those players. They're part of the Chicago Bulls team that won it in in New York. They're wondering well, how come Quickly. Now we've seen the mix a couple of times here if your Bulls fan, so you know quickly, The rookie comes off the bench and it's real easy hot. When he comes off the bench, he really is able to light it up. And so he likes quickly, But not like you likes Derrick Rose. He will continue to ride the Randall bandwagon and run it with veterans. More so the young players S so That's why roses there he's going with veterans. He trusts more still than trying to develop young players because all he's trying to do is win. That's that's the Tom mantra. Always. All right, gentlemen, last one today is National Pizza Day Shatter. No shot. You, too, will be indulging in some pizza and give me your favorite topping. I said no shot today. Pizza is a weekend thing for May Friday is in cap knows this. They like going out on a Friday going to lose on on a Friday, either downtown or Going to my favorite spot in in floss more. Where Jonathan is a great manager from lose, So that's a weekend thing for me, so no shot on that, Um Sausage or cheese for me. Okay, so I did not know It was National Pizza Day. I am Court. My wife is quarantining away from me because she's going to see our grandson are new grandson. It was just born on Friday. So we're like two ships passing in the night. Normally, that would be a topic of covered. Hey, honey, it's Pizza Day tomorrow. National Pizza Day. Do you want me to bring something home from work, or do you want to make something so because Danny, just enlighten me on that? I will be making that crustless pizza that my brother gave me the recipe for I will have that today in honor of National Pizza Day. My favorite topping without a doubt, sausage, pepperoni onion together. Take that sounds like a hell of a meal. It'll be good. Sounds delicious. It'll be low card. I was wondering where the pizza was last year on National Pizza Day. I thought I think you fed the whole station. I think Mindy's you Mindy fed the whole state. Yes, she sent pizza's here. Yeah. She said. Heart shaped that was on Valentine's Day. I think she sent it twice. I think you've dropped the ball today. I think I did. Yeah, but that's okay though. Like I'm course I'm not there. But it's easy for you to say that's okay. You're at home. I'm just saying that I can get it next time. You know next. I'm not complaining about it, Danny. See, That's the thing I'm not complaining about. I'm saying that it's something I would usually eat on the weekends on Friday, Saturday when I'm watching games. I'm not complaining about it. It's great next year. Hopefully, this time next year we will have pizzas there at the station. I will make sure of it. I'm gonna put it in my calendar with an alert. For February. 9 2022. There's no shot. You're going to do that. I'm gonna do it right Zero shot shot. Absolute shot. No shot. All right. If you see a coyote. There was one in my neighborhood last night. "This Super Bowl was certainly a matchup of a couple of marquee quarterbacks. As for the rest of the league, we could see more off season movement. Things, for example, have been rocky in Philly for the latest there, ESPN insider Adam Schefter. There's no doubt it's getting closer. And the expectation around the league is that Carson Wentz will be traded. The question is, when does it happen? Who did they send them to? And what did the Eagles get in return? But there's been enough interest so far. To make everybody think that Carson Wentz is going to get traded here in the coming days and weeks. We just don't know exactly when the Eagles will feel like they've got enough compensation to make the trade. The Eagles have told teams that they're comfortable bringing back wins. But people I've spoken to don't believe that that will be the case they believe once will be sent packing. And the question is what they get back. The Eagles are looking for a package. It is similar to the one thing Detroit Lions got from the Rams and return for Matthew Stafford again. A lot of people wondering who's going to give that up? The Bears have had some level of interest. The Colts have had some level of interest. There have been other teams that have called in expressing some level of interest. And so Philadelphia's not rushing to make a move. But everybody believes that eventually the time is going to come that they are going to make a move with Carson Wentz. Of course, are Sal Paolantonio has his finger on the pulse of things in Philly. "What have you got to lose by having Patrick Williams out there late in games trying to play defense. If you're not going to Kobe, why can't play defensive line marketing campaign defensive Zach Lavine, half ass his defense all the time? Then you gotta have some guys out there that can play defense. And if you're young guys are doing it. If you're young guy is doing it have him out there playing defense. Well, he's going to get missed tonight because without Otto Porter there for sure. You played 18 against the next on Monday night, and, you know, I think both of these teams are at the same point. Right. They're both young teams were new head coaches who have young players who have been drafted very high. Who they're trying to figure out. What are they? What is R. J. Barry? What's lottery marketing? There's a lot of that going on with these two teams, and we kind of point out that the veterans have helped and really pushed along when this team has been competitive, especially on the defensive side. So if you have any thoughts on the balls, you can join us at 3123323776. We will take your phone calls. FedEx Harold in Skokie, Europe first. What's up, Harold? What's up, boys? So, uh, you know, talk about this. I don't know. Like it, Z I guess this quarterback situation with the Chicago Bears have been going for two weeks. You know where actually are. So who should the Bears go after, But and I know you guys bring it up, But I actually have a question from both of you guys, actually. No, You guys are bears friends. Who do you guys want? Has started for Chicago. The reason why I ask that because I know a while back. I had said Sam Donald. I like the kid. I just feel like he just needs a good coach to see the best out of sand Arnold Um, but overall, I want to hear who you guys think fits better. For Chicago Bears. Well, is it a is a question Harold ads like pie in the sky, lark, our hope or who do we think they're realistically realistically going to land? Who do you want? How about that? Who do you want? I want I want to show him, Watson. Like I'm not being a smart blank. But like like Watson would be that like if we could all have our dream. It's just wrong, Watson, right? Well, yeah, I think so. I would think that one of my other situations would be that Aaron Rodgers is super Petty and doesn't and doesn't like the fact that he's not getting guaranteed money and is like you know what? I must stick it to the Packers, and I'm gonna go play for the Bears. It's never gonna happen, but we're not. We're not living in reality is here. I would say it. Harold Tol enter into more of a realistic conversation. I see your point with Donald. I would say if I could pick anyone who is currently on a team trade or whatever. I think I would go with Jalen hurts. That would be my pick. Okay, well, he's a more realistic option than anything else out there. Well, thank you guys. The guys want to hear your thoughts about that. You guys have a good night and bullshit. Get 9 12 by tonight, So let's get that one guys. Thank you. All right, Harold. Thanks for the phone call. We appreciate you. Tom Thibodeau was on with bottle and Soviet yesterday and he talked about this current Bulls team. His coach, Tom Thibodeau, with water and Sylvie yesterday, I think they're in terrific hands. I work with are are tourists with Team USA and I've known Billy For a long time. And so we're close friends and, you know, obviously coached Zack will bean and just seeing how how much he's developed and And I like the blend of their team. Guys like that is young, terrific and market and has a very bright future. I think they're well on their way. And, uh, you know, I think it's great for the city as we continue to preview the Bulls and the Knicks tonight, seven o'clock at the U. C. Thompson Bill was also on with bottle and still be talking about Zach Levine. Some of the other stars on this team. We're developing stars and trying to get Zach Levine to that superstar level. Here's Tom Thibodeau one. I think you have to give the player a lot of credit for The approach that they take in, you know, Obviously, we saw it with the guys that you know I had during my time there, but just knowing Zach You can't get to the NBA without being a very talented player. Obviously a great player T make it to this level. But then when you look at the drive The intelligence and how important it is for the players. Sometimes way all tend to forget the steps that were taken to get a player to a certain point. We view him after seven or eight years, and we say, Well, that guy's started, we forget all the steps that they took along the way. And I think when you take a close look exactly See that. He's made steady progress every year to the point where I mean, he's a 50 49 guys and he keeps getting better. And he's still young, You know, so And I think the way the game is played today it fits. His style is very athletic. The shooting supreme EUM sets up a lot of other things..

"And what the what The time would be in an hour from now, so Chibs is gonna happen in three, isn't it? Does it surprise you? It doesn't surprise me at all that After a X number of years that two of our favorite guys are Jeff and Gandhi and Tom Thibodeau, like it doesn't surprise me at all, even though there were moments when we would argue, and we would But that kind of tells you who both of them are that you can have those conversations and it just rolls off their back, and then they move forward. And there's no as far as you know our personal Situation is concerned. There's never been a grudge other than trying to run us over with a car. But that was different, right. But like, isn't it like it doesn't surprise me that after all these years that you and I have done this show together and And some of the basketball moments in conversations we've had with the both of those guys not surprised at all that they're two of our favorite, right. And you know, you know who was like that, too, is in the end. Cutie was like that. You know, I think cutting matured over the years, and even though I went back and forth with Cuddy and 13 and 14 That he still always came on the show, and he's still like to break. You know what And so, yeah, it will be good. It would be good and the Bulls did win And I want to get into that You wanted to know really quick, too. In the beginning. How was your How was your resume thing with your idol? So I for those who don't know we've talked about it a couple of times over the last week or two. They always get these really cool meeting great experiences through some of the credit card companies. And now when we're in a virtual world in the pandemic, those in person meetings can happen and this is one that I would have jumped out right away. And it took some convincing for me to actually sign up because it was virtual. But Waddle then brought up some good points. To me to convince me to do it on. My wife did the same thing my wife off the air when I told her the dilemma that Peyton Manning was with Cooper and you know they hate they pronounce it Cooper. It's not they don't It's not pronounced Cooper. They haven't talked about that on really could set is that their accent there? No bill because they said it the other way. Because there was a question from another Cooper. That you could, I guess right in some questions. I missed that. And they joked about the the how, Peyton said the on Lee won. He knows who pronounces it, Cooper. Is his brother. And everyone else pronounces it. Cooper, so it's not their New Orleans accent. Well, wouldn't you think that if his name was cover that he would be spelled c u pp, er instead of C 00 p e. R. Yeah, and we didn't get to that. I mean, I don't You know, that's exactly where you should have gone with a line of questioning. What the hell is going on with you? Manning's Can you pronounced that cover? When his name is spelled Cooper, a cupper looks just like his dad. And and a lot like Eli. So anyway, so I did do this. It was assumed from 6 to 7 yesterday and I two thoughts, okay? Two thoughts as I stared lovingly into my zoom screen. Working mostly at Peyton. And every now and then it, Cooper. And there were two thoughts that came to my mind. Do you have any guesses what those two thoughts were? One was. Why can't you be in charge of everything about Al Assad for our bears? Bingo. Like I everything he talked about whether it was what did he learn from his rookie year when he threw 27 interceptions and set that record or 28 whatever it was, and they went three and 13. And what would he want to do differently and everything like that? Anything, he answered? He had a thought process behind and I know like people say Sylvie wasn't painting one of the guys who put in a good word for Adam gays to get the Jack's job. Yeah, No one's perfect. We talk about this with feel all the time. Feel made a lot of mistakes, but I'd like Theo's still to run my baseball team. Sure, and especially when I've got game or Ted with a headset on talking about not getting the Quarterback completely right in that getting the winds like he would want it, but everything else is there and they're going to collaborate and I'm just looking at him, saying Why would it be awesome if this guy just ran the Bears? Yes. That would be my first guest. The other one would have been. Can I go on vacation with you? Next time you take a trip, He would be fun to vacation with And I think when he's not when he's not, um, what's the word that I'm looking for? Forming? He's Yeah, like I think when he's got a drink, and he's not censored because he knows their cameras that he'd be even more fun. I think he's got a little bit of you in him where he likes to let his a guy's guy. And like, so let it loose. I would I would, But that wasn't my thought. The other That was this guy would be amazing. In the Monday night, both They that again like I don't know what it's going to take. I would. I would love him first and foremost, haven't run my bears. But if that wasn't the case, he would be great in a booth. He can tell a story. And he hasn't he would be. He's got great presence, camera presence. I mean, he's got a great personality. I agree with you. Totally. I think the one thing he has said As an excuse for not getting involved. Morson. Oh, in the media was his young kids, right? He wanted to be around them. He's got level. I've always thought that his destiny was like a John Elway destiny like John Elway. Was running that team or being the managing partner. In having ownership in a football team, but but something higher with no disrespect the meant to any of the booths. They are very You know, they're very impressive and prestigious jobs, But I always felt that Peyton sights were set a little bit higher than that. Yeah, I think so. And he still lives in Denver, too, by the way. S Oh, that was fun last night. By the way, we're gonna have a fun virtual experience for you, and it is the big game pre game and that is coming up Sunday. So we're what? Five days away from the big game. And you've always you've always heard us talk about the stories from Wattles Party. Well, now you will get the uncensored waddle in Soviet show You will get what all you will get me. "But if you're the knicks and you're trying to formulate this team or you're trying to grow this team do you cash in on a julius randle the way he's playing right now and trade them to get younger. I mean the. The life expectancy in terms of julius randle. The way he's playing right now doesn't coincide with the rise of rj barrett. Who's what twenty twenty one years old in the second year in the nba. I know you need some building blocks. And i know you need them pieces. Mitchell robinson is a piece to provide for a role player. I don't think he could be a guy who could be a number two or number three on the team that's vying for a championship of being one of the better teams in the eastern conference. Did you have that. Potentially rj barrett. I dunno i. I just don't know i don't know if he has the the physical gifts. The be that superstar that can that can carry a team. I don't know but he's young. he's i think the jury is still out in terms of what type of player eventually he's going to be in. Having coach like typical was going to get the best out of rj. At least we know that he'll be able to play some deepens. Not how long typically lasts as the coach of the new york knicks but time that he leaves whether it be in two years or fifteen years. We know that all of those guys will have a new found love passionate respect for playing defense for playing hard every night til is a type of coach though that can be with the team for for fifteen years and have the same group. It's just a style. He come from the same cloth as say a scott skylight. Where he's going to push he's going to get on your. He's gonna motivate ya. He's going to demand a lot. You but after a while man at the stuff wears you out where as well so the nba. You can't play like this game. Seven of the championship eighty two times a year. I don't care who you're just it's just not humanly possible. I don't care. What type of athlete are you are. I don't care what type of genetic physical frequent that you are. All the time for eighty two games for seventy seventy two games even seventy games like hey man if you give me maximum effort in an eighty two game season if you.
How Will Stan Van Gundy Fit With the Pelicans?
"Was a few weeks ago in the ringer NBA show that at the very tail end of the show I recall you saying. Keep an eye out for Stan van Gundy and New Orleans and since we last spoke That came to fruition Stan Van Gundy was hired by David Griffin and the New Orleans Pelicans I think when this all started with the pelicans ouster of Alvin gentry. Through the. Face Tyler had a former relationship with David. Griffin, we talk about my Tony possibly because he had a former relationship via the Phoenix Suns with David Griffin but they do land on Stan van, Gundy as their next head coach when you saw that news come across the wire, would you think great I'm happy I think he could bring some accountability to the team in terms of how much they need it on the defensive end of the floor they were horrific. On defense this season in San Andy. Of course, infamously famously I'm not sure once said build an effing wall and that the Pelicans need to do and I look forward to see what he can do now that he's back in the NBA but by the way like he failed in Detroit because he was coach. Angie 'em now he's just a coach right and he was always a good coach. He was good basketball coach and it was one of those cautionary tales of. It is two different skill sets number one it also in many cases can be two different motivations right if I am if I am the general manager and the coach now let's say I make a poor signing or a poor usage of money will sometimes I may want to use that guy to prove that I was right about this guy right and I know that you Still get into that with with a front offices and coaches anyway, right in in everybody wants to be responsible everybody wants to be right about the move they made. But when you then you're not doing the scouting of every other team on a regular basis, I know you have scouts you're certainly not doing that with college, but it's just a very hard job to do twofold and. Another cautionary tale of taking that over I mean everybody wants that power but I think we've seen two of these guys. Now fact three of these guys. Now, all of which I think you would say were subpar to very below average in that role but. We respect them as guys that are on the sidelines as basketball coaches. That is their expertise in that is doc rivers who took on that role Tom Thibodeau who took on that role and Stan Van Gundy who took on that role and yet got hired as coaches though it didn't go well at their last stops. I mean doc better than the other two but we thought. Hires because these guys are good basketball coaches who were miscast trying to run everything for sure absolutely and ultimately it's another good opportunity for him when New Orleans area there even though they have Zion, they have ingram granted these a restricted free agent. He'll likely back matched any offer sheet or whatever This is still sort of A. Team right now that can go in many different directions depending on how David Griffin wants to build it out and I look forward to seeing the ways in which Van Gundy, Utilize Zion and the ways in which he tries to get him going off because remember you know before all the three point shooting, we've seen the last ten years or so that has. Exploded with the warriors and the rockets and all these teams shooting lot of threes, the magic, Dwight Howard at center and four shooters around him in the late two thousands with anti head coach and they went to a finals. We're going to be lost to Kobe and the Lakers The had some good run they some really strong teams and in with Williamson. With the New Orleans Pelicans, I know they want to add another they don't want to go like all small Wall. With Zion at the five all the time it's it's just went to work but I, think van Gundy's pasts and what he could do now with this roster, it's kind of exciting to think about the possibilities with the different ways in which they can use ion but most importantly though and again, this is like with all the coaching hires we talk about I am more interested in the personnel changes who they draft, who do they try to trade for? Who Do they try to sign I am WHO's coaching the team, but you know I'm excited to see if they're able to get. Zion, going and creative ways that they weren't able to do as much during the season despite his success he posted up a lot man I. WanNa see some more pick and roll with Zion I wanNA see some more creativity with him, handling the ball and running pick and roll, and that will largely come from other personnel changes that come to the roster that allow that to happen. But Hey, man SVG had success with some different types of teams in the past and I look forward to seeing what he can do here with him, and that team has a good roster they under performed badly. Made sometimes teams underperformed because you look at their roster and you go man aol have the goods like that team underperformed I. Think so too. I think of course it I mean look I mean Lonzo I think Lonzo hit one shot in the bubble well, even though they're young that defense was bad even though they had good individual defenders, they've jrue holiday one of the best perimeter guard defenders, Ingraham and Lonzo. They were good defenders of the Lakers. They were the last two years. They were good. They were not good defenders last season with New Orleans. And Zion I, mean he was horrific. He was so bad on defense. It was it was really sad to watch. This is the guy who is blocking three point shots closing out from the opposite side of the paint at Duke just a year prior, which is why people wonder how much of it was fatigue coming back but season how much of it was the injury limiting him how much of it was effort I? Don't know I don't know what it was but regardless. He stunk on defense, and all of this needs to change next season for this team to be anything that have any chance of actually getting into the playoffs it can't be all

New York Knicks hiring Tom Thibodeau as next head coach
"So Tom Thibodeau is gonna be the head coach of the next. Here's our guy. Stephen A. Smith, Our first take host was on return to the MBA, and he discussed the positives and negatives. Of the Knicks hiring Fido. Nevertheless, nobody can argue that Davidow has the most successful resume it available coaches that one open market he's one about 59% of the games. You know the job you did in Chicago. We noted he sold it to the postseason first time in like a decade for like, 13 years. We know that he's with one could easily argue whether not Doc Rivers would be a champion as a head coach had it not been for top Thibodeau being his assistant. In Boston back in 2008. So all of those things come with He's got an incredible reputation. Terms of knowing the game of basketball of the entire Lesley committed to the game of back, eat, lives and breathes basketball day and night. Um and you combine that with the fact that again either defense with it, though, that a pluses minuses. The fact that in Chicago there were issues with Paxson and guard form in the general manager In Minnesota. There was an issue with the owner, Glen Taylor, and management, along with the fact that Jimmy Butler wanted to be traded went off Thibodeau, his former coach in Chicago, by the way. Was his president of basketball operations and to coach in Minnesota. And so as a result, you've got a home and believe that Tom Thibodeau has made the necessary adjustments. He's seen the error of his ways. Some respect player relations. And even relations with management and that this is a good deal because I'm here and it's a three year deal. Garrity fully guarantee the other two years, a partial guarantee in excess of about for $4 million. But in the end It seems to be a match made in heaven. Considering the fact that both will you, Wesley Elia Rose Go back over Quarter century with activity. He knows they've known him that long.

Minnesota Timberwolves teammates caught off guard by Jimmy Butler trade demand
"Coa Leonard is you know, he's an MVP level player in the NBA. Jimmy Butler is an outstanding player, but he's. Level below that, and he's older. And I think the question too is this isn't breaking up in Minnesota because he doesn't like Tom tiptoe. He's always had a good relationship with Tibbett. Oh, now it's strained as this process plays out and he doesn't get the trade and you'll see become probably more at odds. I think that's starting to happen. But the fact is he credits Tom thibodeau a great deal with his development of player. Last pick of the first round out of Marquette, who went to Portsmouth and the pre-draft process was fighting to just be a first round pick and becomes an all star max player in Chicago, and the fact that if you're another team and you're saying he's walking away from Tibbs, he's walking away from this team. Could he do that to us after seven months? And I think that factors into your thinking too, about what you give up for him? One hundred percent, right? I mean, he that extension that. Minnesota offered him would be available six months after your quired him, and he's not going to accept, you know, four years, one hundred million dollars. He is certainly renegotiate renegotiate his contract. But as Minnesota learned this summer, when you're over the cap, you can't go about doing it and it would take gutting, you're going your roster to do it. And you know what I've learned is that when you go out and make these type of trades, you're always chasing that trade and you're trying to acquire other pieces to make that player happy. And you're really, you're really hurting your roster to do. So. I mean, I mean the the Darren Williams trade back in two thousand eleven in the year later to follow up with Jerry Wallis because you're trying to convince Williams to stay or your trading multiple draft picks because you're trying to convince that player to stay in free agency. And I think that's where. That's where the situation in Toronto with Colli that Masais got a good comfort level with that roster there with Kyle Lowry surge Bach, and some of the younger players Dhillon. Right. And then Lee Valance Eunice that he doesn't have to go out there and go out and get it Jimmy Butler PO. Possibly that he says, I can go to, you know, I can go to battle with these guys that when fifty nine games with Colli Leonard. And that's a lot different than maybe the team like Brooklyn who acquires Butler and then says, what other pieces can I go out and get to try to piece his player to make us competitive? And I think that's really where teams really get themselves in
Tom Thibodeau pitches Jimmy Butler on rejoining Timberwolves
"This Jimmy Butler thing is just getting crazier and crazier. You all know by now. Mr. Butler sat down with Tom timid. Oh, Andy, worry. I'm the Timberwolves front office and said, I wanna get traded. And then Tim dove was like, nah, we don't really. Trade you. We're not taking any offers. Now the reports are from, whoa, JR. Check this out till general manager. Scott Layden had been shutting down trade inquiries for Butler in recent days. And Taylor has demanded that late Nali take calls up potential deals, but reach out to initiate conversations. League sources said, this is all really get spicy. Here you need Taylor in that is Glenn Taylor, the owner of the of the temples. So the owner of the timber wolves is now telling his employees that they need to not only take trade requests calls, but to reach out and make initiate trade talks with other teams. What does that tell you about where everyone's heads at in the front office in Minnesota one starts with the owner and it goes back to what I've talked about on this program for months. There clearly was a fracture and you had to pick a side either you on the same team as Jimmy Butler at Tom pivotal who they gave fifty billion dollars to oversee. Basketball operations and the Costa team, or you were on the side of Karl Anthony towns. He ironically signs a supermax deal. As soon as they start talking about Jimmy bullard's being traded, I'm like, he didn't wait to this week like soon as they start talking about trained Jimmy Butler. He was like outside, I'll stay and they already paid as you wings. So that fracture clearly was there.
