"Mayor Pete booted gentian bay area billionaire Tom Steiner have ended their presidential bids yet some four million Californians have already turned in their ballots KQED's politics correspondent and co host of political breakdown resa Lagos has been getting lots of questions and is here to answer some of them Haveri said Hey Meena before we get to the nuts and bolts of voting questions what's your reaction to the departures of clover sharp to judge inspire from the presidential contest well you know I think it shows that when voters start voting the candidates listen look I think probably this does show the strength of Joe Biden which is sort of surprising given where things were at just a couple weeks ago coming out of Iowa and New Hampshire but it clearly is also showing Bernie Sanders strength I think that we're seeing some of the moderates trying to consolidate behind bite and now we're hearing that both mayor P. Peter judge and senator Klobuchar will be endorsing Biden tonight and I think the other thing it shows me that is the relevancy of California let's not forget just four short years ago we weren't even preparing to vote yeah we weren't getting to within in that primary until June a Paul Mitchell has a voting expert and vice president of political data Inc has this take on it this is a sign of California matter and you know this move the primary up to March he got vindication today because this entire last twenty four hours was shaped by this overwhelming number of delegates that are being served up in California on Tuesday and you know the importance of the California primary I think really led to a lot of these changes I mean I just remind folks when he talks about that big delegate haul on Tuesday we're talking about four hundred and fifteen in California alone you only need eleven hundred ninety one to get the nomination so this is an important day for anyone still in the race well now folks who voted for Putin judge clubs are Stiers even gang are wanting to know if they can change their votes and sadly that answer is now you if you have already turned in your ballot that's it you can't vote twice it's actually illegal and it could cause all kinds of problems but if you haven't filled out your absentee ballot but you haven't actually dropped off or mailed it yet you can go to a polling place an election center county registar and hand it to them for destruction and tell them what happened and they'll give you a new one so what happens to the delegates for candidates who dropped out well at this point they're still gonna basically get those delegates they you know these people are still on the ballot you could be on about you know I mean I could write you into my you would get my vote even if you don't have a candidacy so there's a little bit of a difference between the candidacy and and and the campaign and people actually getting votes so if anyone hits that fifteen percent threshold we've been talking about in a congressional district or gets fifteen percent more of the statewide vote they would still technically out of those delegates to their tally even if they have suspended their campaign and this is a question that still comes up quite a bit if I'm not registered as a Democrat can I vote in the primary tomorrow yes if you haven't already voted and you can even register on election day that's right this is a new state law just signed a couple weeks ago by governor Gavin Newsom it essentially allows you again to go into one of those election places physically and ask to register and cast a provisional ballot just to note that ballot won't be counted and so kind of the end of counting because they do have to verify that you are allowed to vote that everything you're telling them is true KQED's Marisa Lagos our politics correspondent and co host of political breakdown thanks Marie sack my pleasure Meena I need a Kim KQ weedy needs support comes from the San Francisco Symphony embarking on a new era with Esapekka Solomon as music director in the twenty twenty twenty one season support for KQ weedy comes from the napa valley museum in Yountville presenting the first US museum exhibition of painting and sculpture.

Sanders takes aim at Trump following South Carolina primary

"The South Carolina primary ends with one candidate rising from the ashes another falling by the wayside Joe Biden won South Carolina going away saying his campaign isn't dead yet Bill Clinton Barack Obama to the presidency Bernie Sanders was a distant second congratulating Biden but taking aim at the president Donald Trump will not undermine American democracy money did not help Tom Steiner his journey ended before super Tuesday and honestly I can't see a path where I can win the presidency that sets the stage for the rush for delegates in just two days that could launch or leave behind others in this twenty twenty

"Find podcasts but last night I went off on me a pizza and so tonight I'm going off on Tom Steiner and so you know just pick somebody just bash not no it's it's sort of a two minute you know rant about things getting some things off my chest there's plenty of much as benefactor I've got stuff backed up on the runway you know we're trying to I will get with tomorrow well I know I want to do that and then you know like today I was going to actually talk about anvil job within the toms dire thing was really bugging me so I said no I'll go off on him and so that'll be at seven o'clock and I may go off on Joe tomorrow I got him but there's a lot you know a lot of ships to be righted and so I got my work cut out for me but these things only two minutes long and that you can find that I get yeah we have a link look just go to I'll just make it easy for you Phil Valentine dot com just click around there you'll see links to all these podcasts with its bovine scat dollars G. two minutes of truth pond goats any of that stuff there now the debates that last name I watch this I have to be honest with you I watched the Carolina state game and I'm glad I did because Caroline finally won and you know if things just beat Duke once this year it's worth them being what three and four in fifteen of the aids the exes it's just one dude that's okay and that makes it a successful season that's all that's all you need to know so I didn't watch the debates you know live I watch the recap today and one of the things that struck me and and I was looking at CBS because they were doing and I'm putting this in air quotes fact checks and I'm going to really so let's go over a couple of facts they were checking you have to focus on his last night again but talking about how she was a teacher back when she was like twenty two years old or whatever and she got pregnant they fired me but I guess you know mayor Bloomberg you just do what he does he just tells his people who were working for him that are pregnant just to kill it and Bloomberg got upset and said I never said that and that's a line but that's the rumor that was going around that he said more of the many things I said Bloomberg said well CBS and I'm in air quotes in fact checkers story fact checked her story about the whole being fired thing and that we covered this several weeks ago on this but it ain't true so here's the deal there are drug transcripts minutes from a meeting in nineteen seventy one this is that Riverdale school district in New Jersey this is where she was working and that will just tell you first have a fact check this it's so funny she was talking to a group of folks in an interview or whatever with Berkeley in two thousand seven I think it was a twenty ten some time ago and she was talking about this and she says that she have Amy's some sort of certificate that was like almost like a temporary certificate and then she said she said I got pregnant and then I've gone back to school I decided well I've had enough of this so I'm just going to go home and have my baby and well that's what she said well that was CBS faxing so what did they say when she said when the fact is said what she said was mostly true how was it mostly true what she said the Berkeley should said nothing about being fired she said she had a temporary certificate was going back to school she decided just say screw it all I'm going to raise kids and that's what she did well here's the deal they have dug up not CBS obviously because they don't want anybody to know this stuff but it has been dug up by media outlets out there that are on the right the minutes from the school board meeting at Riverdale in nineteen seventy one and this is when she was supposedly fine you're good right well the minutes saying about Elizabeth Warren the the school board has accepted her a resignation with regrets they wanted her to stay but she decided she was going to resign so why is nobody calling her on this course is the same woman who says she's an Indian for crying out loud and she's not well then the big the big one came along where anvil Joe comes along and says I've taken on the NRA and I beat him and so I'm gonna take on the NRA and the gun manufacturers and that's a says it manufactures and so he's taking on the gun manufacturers oh by the way the the a link to the Elizabeth Warren seven on that we got that column out today I forgot about that yeah it is about this because I wrote it this morning and it's added fill Valentine a coming of blood so their links to all these things I'm talking about and that blog I'll go in tweet that moment for one thing about M. anvil Joe in the process says that these gun manufacturers and the NRA have killed off with guns a hundred and a hundred and fifty million people since two thousand seven well CBS did a fact check on it and says the Joe Biden says that he fought the NRA and one and that's mostly true what what about the thing where he says that the that the gun manufacturers have killed a hundred and fifty million people since two thousand seven they're only three hundred million I was in the country that be half the population well it was bold lines got Taunggyi and maybe some people can see a senior moment or misquote or whatever but here's the truth roughly and depends on the year roughly just under forty thousand people a year killed by guns here's the instant pot and then by the way we cover all of this and one of the bovine eligible so that's where you get the stuff sort of long form you know when I say long from will spend fifteen minutes sixteen twenty minutes on one one of the subjects which we do it with bovine scheduled about forty thousand people are killed in America year by guns and sixty percent of those suicide sixty percent or suicide so you're left with anywhere from eleven thirteen thousand people killed a year even if you think the suicides in India added up for thirteen years comes to about five hundred thousand people not a hundred and fifty million but was there any fact check on Joe Biden from the mainstream media CBS last night nah you and you have to start asking why they did some it is the thing the fact check I look at every fact check it was either true or mostly true so they didn't you know obviously these all these candidates are telling you everything yeah that's true button hardly anything that they're telling you is true but the more interesting part of this too is we're starting to not be able to differentiate between anybody Amy Klobuchar came out swinging last night saying she's against Medicare for all I think she's the only one on stage now Joe has said some things about you know Hey guy goes back and forth yeah we need to ensure everybody but I'm not for Medicare for I am burning doubling down on the Cubans now I know they were authoritarian regimes well the educated a lot of people that did some good things and so he had two chances last night till got onto to play down his previous remarks about the his gushing over Fidel Castro and he just piled on with the gushing you gotta understand this is a guy who said that the Phil Donahue back in the day when he ask him are you a capitalist and he says I am absolutely not a catalyst because capitalism is unfair so this is a classic fight ladies and gentleman this guy's coming I mean we want to be nice about it in call of a socialist or democratic socialist or whatever he calls himself haze of flippin communists is what he is he's a nice enough guy and that's the thing I mean you know you can't help but kinda like coal burning bodies are coming and we don't need to calm me run in the country but I mean you talk to someone like Joe Walsh who's got trump derangement syndrome so many new guy was a Republican congressman and he's going to vote for the Comey over trump causes that I'd rather vote for comment in a con man Hey every actually said a socialist income but same thing so you're left with not a whole heck of a lot of choice on well I think there's a clear choice none of those folks and will take trump thank you very much we'll keep this economy going and every time I look at this I'm going I don't wanna get too cocky because that's exactly what happened Hillary folks in twenty sixteen they were so smug about it and twenty six thing they were just all all all all all all all holding their hand on their heart and just look kicking their head back and laughing at everybody thing and you think you're gonna get so I don't wanna be that guy I don't see how the hell these folks with I mean as it stands right now let me think it happen corona virus scan you know sweep the country and they blame trump for let me go we're gonna take a time out we'll get to some your phone calls if we can but we got other stuff to share with you too like some polling data what if the election were held today and what if it were trump and Bernie Sanders I'll tell you a Rasmussen says when we come back right after this this is Jay Farner CEO of quicken loans and we want to help your house feel more like a home with some of the lowest refinancing rates ever rates have dropped so much that many Americans can reduce.

Election 2020 highlights: Democrats jockey for support ahead of S.C. primary

"Much all right we're gonna bring in our political analyst Mr Gerry Dietrich joining us on a Wednesday morning well Sir here we go I mean Vegas was fun and then South Carolina was just as fun what's your headline from last night well I'm certainly one of the headline has to be that Bloomberg look likely to actually engage in the debate thank you course last week with disastrous for him unless it was like a clear themselves fine he took a lot of flak again yesterday but that was probably the biggest most dramatic change down from last week to this week so Gary I promised our listeners before we went to the commercial break that the one question I would ask you is this Joe Biden promised last night that he would win South Carolina you think you can keep that promise what is the polls definitely show him continuing to be in the lead stand however that leaders shrunk considerably certainly the standard momentum is gonna have something to do with that I don't think there's any guaranteed fighting Biden knows very well himself if he doesn't win South Carolina it makes things very difficult for him going into super Tuesday Gail had absolutely no mom that you're having not won a single contract yet so the conventional thinking this morning is Elizabeth Warren did pretty well once again another debate but you know she has one of those campaigns here that's running on fumes financially Amy Klobuchar's sort of in the same situation do we see it do any of these people drop out after so after Saturday yeah I don't think they drop out after Saturday next Tuesday yeah I'm super Tuesday of course were the biggest prize in that here in California that really is going to be the waters for stocks now in many states that are honest people get fifteen percent of the vote delegates now goes to one of the others so that's really going to be the big cast here super Tuesday where a third of the democratic guy delegates he's domination are going to be doled out all right let's look forward to Tuesday because it affects so many of us in California what what are you hearing here in California who's doing well is are there any odds on favorites from the from your sources what you have to say that Sanders is in a strong position this race continues to be here hello but here's a guy a course you ran in the state and ran strongly for years ago against Hillary Clinton and it's pretty tremendous amount of resources on the ground the most interesting to watch next including here in California is going to be of course mayor Bloomberg because him he hasn't been on a single ballot yet you know little to debate and nobody can look for that changes on Tuesday and that's really going to be I think what everybody's gonna be scrutinizing is did these hundreds of millions of dollars by the delegates at Bloomberg helps a well one last quick question how did Tom Steiner duty in your estimation last night he did fine and you know what he's currently in third position South Carolina that's very strong but a lot of it of resources in that state and so you know he's a god causes on money to stay in the U. britaniji and well beyond okay good thanks a lot appreciate the time on a Wednesday morning it's our political analyst Gary Dietrich weighing in on what happened and South Carolina pretty consistent with what we're reading this morning was what he's saying the report card seems to be a pretty universal overall it was Sanders ahead sliders that was the right man of the hour right into the evening it was his game to lose and even lose it it's gonna be interesting to see what happens super

Campaign Director Joz Sida on Tom Steyer's Nevada Chances

"Am recording this in a hotel room in Jackson Mississippi because in the thick the political podcasts at I go. Who'S IN WE'RE IN JACKSON? Mississippi this week for a couple of shows and had a chance to connect with Josh's Sita via phone. She's in Las Vegas. Jaws is the Nevada state director for the Tom. Steiner campaign wanted to check in because according to their campaign. They're actually doing well or they say they're doing well. Although national polling or Nevada polling might suggest otherwise nonetheless. I think it's important to hear from candidates and their campaigns. And as you know it's about three or four days before the Nevada caucuses. Also the the Las Vegas debate happening on Wednesday as of now as of this recording star is not qualified for that debate. But you never know but anyway. Here's a phone call that I had with jaws about an hour ago and I wanted to share it with you guys right now on Latino rebels radio. Hey guys thank you so much for for taking my call. I know you must be really really busy couple of days before the clock is can you just tell me at least from from the campaign? What in terms of early voting or anything you can share about your campaign That's been happening the last couple of days. I know definitely actually. We're very very excited because Nevada when we started in August of last year we were at two percent right and as we build a team with diverse group of people actually reflect a lotta. We went up to nine percent and then subsequently later on wind up twelve percent and right. Now we're seeing our internal like numbers. I think came out today where at eighteen percents on and I also was a lot of early vote especially in smaller communities are out of in in mass four times and it doesn't his message resonates and and all of the. Vata Nevada is a sample of the country has purple Blue States. Red States And I think that that's important to reflect and I hope not you know the Democratic Party that the national Democratic Party can see that the voices of Nevada's needs to be heard right and so what we're seeing in early as large numbers of people coming out And you know we hope that this is an inclusive transparent election process because if it is I know for a fact that Tom side will come out specifically in the top three so How is not being on the debate? Stage is that GONNA play a role Going into Saturday for time starts right now. We're still waiting. We're waiting to see the like we have a five pm right but if it's not I mean com is going to continue to me voters whether at I think the momentum going to stop We have built a strong team in Nevada. That are people that have worked in the stay for years are building families years so a lot of mistakes not just for the for all the families that are working in the campaign to support Thomas Values. So I think Tom GonNa be stronger than ever and continued and reward whether at all everybody else's on the debate stage she's GonNa be out making sure that he's having conversations and moralizing folks to the poll that he always have Next future so I think he's going to continue to the work It doesn't stop until until you know. He's so and I think every twenty seconds before says anything affordable pools so talk to me a little bit about the local aspect of of of the state because one of the things that I understand and having followed it for a while. Is that this political power especially from the Latino community has been out there for years And this and it's almost like suddenly everyone's I quote unquote discovering that. It's hard to you know what I'm saying. Like talk to me about the locally. You mentioned the local. I understand that the payments continues to go local Look Trust me about the organizers. Even others who who decided to do align themselves with dire to support him. And what does it mean in the context of like local? Nevada politics that this is something that You know he might. At least you know he's GonNa get votes. Whatever it is we don't know but but at least the fact that I'm talking to you a couple of days before and you're telling me these internals people come and volunteer and who knows what's going to happen on Saturday. Yeah why did that strategy work at least for some of them like star? Who might not have known I? I somebody WHO's working Latino community for years. I seen a lot of politicians are about broken promises. Come into our communities talking to us about things that wanted to for us and then when they get elected they forget about us and It's always been A pathway for champion so we say they get the Latino. Vote the win and it's true but the community needs to actually representing in dire husband. Suddenly without being an elected official for politician has invested so much in the community with four war featuring next and as a philanthropist themselves him and his wife gave out of their own money over three million dollars to help families that were in detention being invited to being deported in California other than they've invested over three hundred and thirty million dollars to help Round families have actually good food in their schools from their communities in Central Valley of California. So they've been You know the sires com sire and can enforce how Zanny I put together to help the comedians behind this team so when people find out when we just talked to to power and people find out so like Oh my God like this guy actually is a real deal find it so it's not a hard opportunity to convince people and is the budget being able to get our message out there and that's what we don't locally. We hosted a debate watch party in Spanish with Twenty three churchgoers moisture We hosted In our headquarters In in Las Vegas on December twelfth. You know we have done organizing with our families in our communities because that is what it's about. It's not about winning entertainer. I think you have a good day. Immigration reform is on longer priorities. It's about it's about you know uplifting on your way to victory stampings come to our communities and then they do what they gotta do and they leave. Our goal is my goal as director for Com sir. Nevada it's still a community than we got and they about investing in the community. That were in organizers. People who have worked for me. Well it's people who have worked with near all planned parenthood for future next-gen who has invested time and energy in Nevada who are battle-tested And our battle born to be able to make sure that we were. We were hitting. We're going where nobody else is going. That's different from everybody out. We're going to meet the community where we went to veterans village. We've had round tables with with communities and nobody else would even think of. They actually do it. After the fact a lot of the venues now elected officials are coming to seat for to be to go to host their events. The owners aw endorses. Because we've we've been in the community far before we don't use candidate just actually Organiz. We organize our candy hostage and work in other states and we continue to do the work and nothing ever reflecting the Bulls on on Saturday. So can I just ask you like I are people in the community like I know there was a lot made about him? Not Knowing the name of the Mexican president. Is that even an issue? Because I felt like I got that from a couple of campaigns and I was just curious. What's what's the campaign has said about it Any more because I think it's I told him it's all right but You know being Mexican American is always interesting to see like you know. Not Everybody knows you know presidents from other countries. But I think it's really the campaign life right like traveling going up and down and sometimes it's that moment where you're just like I know it's there. I know it's in my head but it won't come out right but But Yeah I know he definitely understands that that's something that he should have already known but he knew spread. It was at that moment. Like okay Yeah that's interesting by knowing that that question by and then he other candidate would be asked whether it's thinking about you know being the road in her competitive nature of the field You know I could happen to anyone. but I remember doing that in college where I actually meet people. You know perspective of like you know what's going on our minds and in that moment doesn't Gotcha questions questions. But like I said. I know that Tom in the community. Especially Thomas Somebody who who people really wanted to get to know perspective your faith faith family values with the Holzer And that goes a long way from that. Because that's what people love to see your family together because they know that he understands what that means concern.

"Businessman Tom Steiner who's been gaining ground in the crucial South Carolina primary and he joins us now thanks for joining us Mr Steiner it's good to be with you you have poured millions of dollars in ads in Nevada more than fourteen million dollars into TV and radio in South Carolina and are boasting the largest state wide operation of any other campaign there you're saying you were ready to shock the world do you think you're going to win in those states I'm trying my heart out and I think I'm gonna do really well my test but what you haven't mentioned is that I've spent more time in Nevada than any other candidate and I spent more time in South Carolina than any other candidate even though I was the last candid although than Michael Bloomberg to get in I've actually been spending the time and we have people on the ground in both states from those states actually going out and talking to people organizing listening and coming up with a message that matters that's really why I'm doing well in the fat in South Carolina because I've put in the time to listen to the people and I'm talking to their actual issues but let's talk about the money you spent much more on ads than any candidate in Iowa and New Hampshire and let me read the results of that in Iowa sixteen point four million dollars spent zero percent of the vote zero delegates in New Hampshire nineteen point eight million dollars spent four percent of the vote zero delegates so why should primary voters expected different outcome in Nevada and South Carolina even though you have those organizations there I was the last person in this race as I said I wanted to compete in all the early primary states but in fact what we've seen is on the ground in Nevada and South Carolina I'm doing really well and that's what the polls say what it also says is that I'm putting together a coalition of people including specifically African Americans and Latinos who are responding to a message that is inclusive and I'm putting together the kind of coalition that we're going to have to have in November of twenty twenty to be Donald Trump so what we're seeing in these new to the next stage both of which are dramatically more diverse than either Iowa or New Hampshire is that my message actually is resonating as I believe you said earlier in this program I'm second with African Americans in South Carolina and those numbers keep moving up so we actually think what we need to do in the fall we need to be Donald Trump and one of the things we need to do is get the entire diverse coalition of Democrats to show up I'm a grassroots person for the last ten years I've built one of the biggest grassroots organizations in the United States next Gen America I've shown that I know how to get people to turn out and I'm putting together that kind of coalition in Nevada and South Carolina which is exactly the kind of coalition is going to take to be Donald Trump Mr running out of time here and I want you would need to address the criticism about the amount of money you spend on the campaign a list of this warrant has called it wrong and it is not the way a democracy should work will mark the if you know my history you know that what I've done in every single instance including starting need.

Michael Cohen testifies before Congress

"Michael Cohen when everyone in this room to think about this the first announced witness for the hundred and sixteenth. Congress is a guy who is going to prison in two months for lying to congress. Mr Chairman, your chairmanship will always be identified with this hearing. What this is hearing for heavy-handedness. Straight up there about the business of the day. I think. Choreograph the whole. Cummings rose out all sorts of historic. These people are crazy than I am. No. He told her staff he told the committee staff, he said, the hearing was his idea he selected this committee. He had to talk Michael Cohen into comment, and most importantly, he had to persuade the chairman to actually have it. He told us took two months to get that job done. But here we this is what Americans like about politics. Yeah. I find the posturing someone convicted of lying to congress has appeared again so quickly in front of congress. Certainly it's the first time a convicted perjurer has Cota or no, he's shirtsleeved, sir. And there's a reason why subject really burning mechanical. Bernie sanders. Canadian we got lots of lawyers on this. No, it's actually sorta slick. I'm a witness to violate attorney client privilege. Mr Chairman, we legitimize dishonesty, we de-legitimize this institution. We're supposed to pursue the truth. But you have stacked the deck against the truth. We're only allowed to ask certain questions even with that amendment. You just told us about Russia's now on the table. You initially told us we can't ask questions about the special counsel can't ask questions about the southern district of New York. Can't ask questions about Russia realized that if he gets stuck in. I'm going to be harmful to the president of the United States and the answers to those questions. I'm gonna come from a guy who can't be trusted. Here's what the US attorney said about Mr. Cohen, Mr. Cohen enjoyed a privileged life, his desire, forever, greater wealth and influence precipitated. An extensive course of criminal conduct. Mr. Colin committed four four distinct federal crimes over a period of several years. He was motivated to do. So by personal greed and repeatedly repeatedly used his power and influence for deceptive in could hire a piece of shit like that. They don't care. They just wanna use you Mr. Cohen. You're their Patsy today. They gotta find somebody somewhere to say something. So they can try to remove the president from office. Tom Steiner told him to Tom. Seek organized a town hall guess where cut replaced. George Soros or Charles coke townhall, guess where Sheldon Adelson district in Baltimore. The best. They can find the best. They can find to start this process. Michael Cohen well in this complete waste of time in the circus. Federal inmates. Seems like there's real works. If the congress could be doing. I'll say one thing about the Democrats. Oh, wait, they stick to the playbook. Remember, I'd like myself. Rex the Clinton campaign hired Perkins. QE law firm who hired Glenn Simpson who foreigner Christopher Steele who put together the fake dossier air, we go that the FBI used to go get a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign, but when that whole scheme failed and the American people said we're gonna make Donald Trump president. They said we got to do something else. So now Clinton loyalists Clinton operative. Lanny Davis has persuaded the chairman of the oversight committee to give a convicted felon a forum just tell stories and lie about the president of the United States, whatever we can start their impeachment process. Mr Chairman, we are better than this. We are better than this. Are you back? Nicely done. He said everything he knows the chairman actually I want. I jesus. I don't give these back. So. Yeah. Motion motion under rule two K six of rule Baxter chairman. You took seven minutes. I took four. That's how you could operate. I don't follow the rules. That's how you're gonna say. You'll be back. Backward. From the rules. I just have a simple motion. Mr chairman.

When we saw two extremely alarming climate change reports one from the UN and one from the US government and all the Cable News Network news shows, the Sunday, political talk shows covered it and rather than bringing on any climate scientists. They just brought on Politico's people who wanted to bait the politics people who are going to deny climate change. The worst example was. When Chuck Todd brought on Danielle Platt cov, the American Enterprise Institute who straight up lied and said we had two of the coldest years in history in recent years, and she wasn't challenged. You know, Chuck Todd doesn't even know how to challenge that sort of thing and media matters did a tally, and they show that they the shows have not had a climate scientists on for three years. So on that same show on meet the press with Chuck Todd. They brought Tom Steiner on later who you know, is a political guy. He's run for office. He's a billionaire who spent money against political candidates who are climate deniers or anti clean energy. But while they asked the climate denier about climate change. They didn't even bother asking Tom Steiner about climate change, even though he was on right after and they just had this big segment on the report. So, you know, it's just mine numbing in a year. When scientists are telling us that we're seeing non-linear changes to the Arctic sea ice meeting. We are well beyond the melting phase where they were only recently predicting we're stuck in place on television news shows, and I'm just banging my head against the wall. And to me that Chuck Todd segment tells us everything we need to know about the state of affairs in two thousand eighteen there is actually Catherine Heyhoe who I think was the lead author on the the recent national climate assessment report, or at least she was one of the lead author is on it went on Twitter at one point in the sort of follow up to that coming out and had a thread about basically, what her experience had been going on cable shows, you know, she had been asked to go on cable shows a bunch of times and many times actually more than I realized would make any sense at all she would go, and then she'd get bumped sometimes she would actually record the segment, and then the segment would get bumped other times, she would go and she just being the waiting room, and then it would get bombed, and you know, it's one of these things of like. You know, it just never is the top priority. I think in the news coverage, and so she she just kept not actually getting on which is a waste of her time. And you know, the result would be she wouldn't take some other interview because there's a limited period of time when this is in the news, and so she has to pick and choose what she's gonna do. I it was it sounded sort of disheartening and a little look peek behind the scenes of what happens in cable news. It's unfortunate because we've been talking about this stuff for the better part of a decade. Now, I mean, the criticisms against television news programs for their coverage of climate change have been very loud. And there have been so many great examples of like how you could change coverage and the political journalism complex is unable to change it self it's based on access journalism. Right. And I look we spend a lotta time flogging journalists. There's clearly a lot wrong with journalism for its business models in the way to his politics. But there's a lot of really good stuff..

I was. I mean, that was a smart idea. Sure. Was evil. Let's spend a lot of money. Trying to influence who sits in the office of the counts, the votes, genius. What a, what a plan. That's interesting. That's interesting to have phone number. Ivan, Ivan, Caen Canadian buddy call. Is there there? Oh, oh, I'm so sorry. That's interesting. People just dial that. Okay. For the tweet us. Also coming up in a few minutes. We're gonna talk about this Canadian healthcare thing yesterday. We're talking about it, and I think I made a reference to an example of somebody who had to wait for healthcare, apparently angered somebody whose mom actually received quality healthcare in Canada. Now, I don't remember saying pretty sure. I didn't say that there's never been a patient who received quality, Karen Candida. I don't think I've ever said that. And I gave an example of a woman who who was diagnosed with cancer who had a had to wait a year for surgery. Now that specific person I mentioned, I think that story might have actually come from Sweden, but there's a million I don't know about there are a lot of stories of people who've had to wait a year for surgery in Canada or longer plenty of examples of the exact same thing. Like USA today had an article. This was I think, twenty sixteen. They wrote an article about people frustrated by lung waits and Canada. And so because of that, there's an increasing number of Canadians heading to the United States and elsewhere for treatment. And they cite the example of Sharon Shamba diagnosed with a form of blood cancer that could only be treated with particular particular stem slant stem cell transplant. And there was a Toronto hospital, a hundred miles east of her home in Saint Mary's Ontario and one of three facilities in the province that could provide the life saving treatment. But there was an eight month waiting list. So instead four months after her diagnosis, she finally got tired of waiting.

"Why should we let the democrats go home for several weeks and then have them here from soros and tom steiner and the narrow people in all hollywood groups about how they better stay strong and fight trump on the nominee is you know that's going to happen democrats are going to go home and are going to be hearing it from everybody and in the process of trying to placate everybody they're gonna start ripping this nominee whoever it is it doesn't matter who it is that's why all the navelgazing me kind of is a bit of an exaggeration because whoever the nominee is the objective is going to be to destroy it now i am seeing a caveat to that i'm seeing in strategic places such as today's new york times i think it's today's let me check the that's what yesterday's piece here by david leonard leonard this is no time for liberal despair this is the third piece live seen in the last seven days which is written to liberals reminding them that the odds are very very good that trump's nominee is going to be confirmed because the republicans have the majority and if they stay unified there's nothing the democrats can do and then over here you have these three red state democrats mansion heidi heitkamp and others who might go back and forth and my supporting a nominee but this is the third piece one in the washington post one here in the new york times like another one that slate or salon or somewhere telling their readers this nominee is going to be confirmed that it's no time for despair it's no time to start pulling your hair out this nominee will be confirmed the school of thought in these learned left a circles is this nominee doesn't really change the balance either this is not a liberal judge retiring this is kennedy and more often than not they're saying he was in the five four conservative majority of two great acceptance to that gay marriage and and the same sex bathrooms but those those defections if kennedy had not made them from the conservative side has got the liberals focused but it it so they're they're both sides are trying to plant seeds here that whoever trump picks is gonna get confirmed now if you believe that if you think trump is going to get his nominee and i happen to believe that that's going to be the case then then the put the best and strongest you got up there go for it right now others are saying no no no no no get somebody get confirmed right now and then wait till the next liberal retires or something else happens because that that replacement that's going to be this kind of naval gazing is never ever going to end my point is that what has to happen is the confirmation process needs to start immediately we control it we won the election we control the senate this nomination process and confirmation process needs to start it needs to be kept on pace and it needs to be done so that the democrats have to stay in washington don't get to go home and start hearing it from everybody and start trashing this nominee because that's going to happen and they were gonna take a break i just saw the clock limbaugh bringing america the truth on the network six ten my friends there is a national mortgage company that's offering a better approach it's american financing company.

"I don't really think and i and i remember saying this about republicans in twenty ten and twenty fourteen i don't think the opposition party really needs that much of a message that resonates they but they do need something positive and proactive to say i mean if if in fatty is remember this you know twenty ten all john bainer the republican leader at the time kept saying is where are the jobs and then there were all sorts of stories about well john bainer ass where the jobs but the republicans really aren't offering anything proactive when how they're going to help create jobs and of course republicans did put out some sort of agenda and it was criticized as being thin and recycled and not really much meat on the bones but that really wasn't the issue and that won't be the issue in the midterm election it will be a referendum on the president one way or the other and if people enough people in the right places are upset enough with president and his party there will be some major major pushback the less there is of that the less pushback we are going to see i do think it's important for democrats not to get over their skis and talk about nothing but a teach me which is why i think tom steiner must be a republican plan because he's the best thing republicans have going for them sometimes with is impeachment ads but i do think beyond that i wouldn't make too much of the democrats needing something robust just something positive and proactive beyond trump's not a nice guy mr fund well you know the democrats do have one advantage that they haven't had in previous elections they are flush with cash where there's from george soros linked entities or act blue which is one of the most successful internet fundraising vehicles i've ever seen the money goes directly to the candidates the democrats are promoting rather than through consultants or if you're washington they're going to have more than enough money republicans are going to be adequately funded i think one of the interesting things about this election john is going to be the democrats are going to be the big spenders they're going to be the ones injecting money into politics and it'll be interesting to see how little the media complains about democratic billionaires flooding the airwaves with messages and trying to influence the.

"I wanna play this ad tom steiner we've talked about him before the liberal billionaire from from california who remember did all those ads to impeach the president right now he's got a new ad he had the sat out for mother's day are you ready for this all right and here's his here's his latest ad i started noticing some issues with him maybe in middle school the stealing started out small a few dollars here and there not from me oddly enough but from less fortunate kids he was never afraid to talk with girls that things never really worked out for some reason i'm worried when he went to college but he came home often i guess he never really learned to do is on laundry the laundry shows him a laundry basket with basket with trump shirts you know it wasn't until i met his college buddies i realized it might be too late let me a mother can catch the signs early this mother's day talk to your child about the gop so they go by what she said i didn't know until i met his college buddies and it showed all the the white supremacist charlottesville with with the tiki torch narrowed by the way we did advise them if you're going to be a white supremacist tiki torches really don't cut it it's yeah well we got a lot of advice if you decide to be a white suppressed yeah one would be don't any other be don't and don't protest and then go out that week with your resume.

"Deal and it's just one you've got george soros doing coal company soro ever get soros ever get in the coal industry that's shocked me in the book he he got into it by buying shares on the cheap because his friend barack obama was driving down coal prices same thing that tom steiner big environmentalist tom steyer made a lot of money in the coal industry and one of the things he did was buy shares of the stock on the cheap in the early part of the obama administration when the prices were being driven down and it's a classic example of what we call smash and grab and it's this sort of corrupting approach by proximity now i noticed on the cover of the book you have obama you have carry you have biden have mcconnell and you also have on the cover jared kushner so i'm reading through the book and i'm thinking oh well all these guys and i get to the part about jared which is more in the back of the book and i did not see anything that stood out to me on the level of of these other people am i wrong you're exactly right as a matter of fact i don't think you saw anything wrong with his ethics yeah i mean what what what we really say is this is kind of a warning and we begin the chapter by talking about the chinese government's is is very sort of freaked out by donald trump's policies towards china on trade on the south china sea and we quote chinese government officials in the chinese media saying the way we are going to try to soften donald trump is we're gonna try to go through the kids and so it's a warning to say look this is the way china operates they had success in the obama administration i would argue they've had success with mitch mcconnell don't take any of these deals that's that's the real concern because this is the wave of the future sean this this form of everything they've done those in their blind trust us all look but this is a temptation of everybody yes you have even.

"Our public life so when i think about that and i think about your question to me if we brit i think what we're saying is true is urgent and is incredibly relevant and if that's true than that means that americans will respond to that they will respond to the truth they'll respond to someone standing up for the truth and they'll be much more likely to come out to the polls in response to that so no i don't worry about what you're saying because what worse where try to represent a truth for the whole american people that includes everybody and we think if we can do that that is something that will compel impel people to be engaged and to show up and when that happens with the broadest democracy we think we get the best decisions and that's what we believe in in our bones dishes newsmakers on cspan radio our guest this week is the founder of the need to impeach campaign tom steiner are you saying i just wanna keep honors for a little bit are you saying that 2018 should be a referendum specifically on impeachment that if the democrats are to take the house of representatives at that's the first thing that they should do and that's what people should be turning up for the polls were not trump and everything that he um as you just described in terms of the policies and the things that he's talking about but his is it specifically impeachment i didn't say that what i said was what whatever we like or don't like the 2018 election in my mind is going to be a referendum on this administration this congress and their negative backwardlooking policies impeachment is a statement that what they're doing is so dangerous so unusual so out of the box that we actually have to get rid of this president that is a very unusual statement that that's a statement of how far beyond what is safe this administration has gone and the american people need to speak up so there are elected officials know that that's what they want so do i think so answered your question i believe this will be a referendum on what this administration with the support of this congress has chosen to represent including they're very divisive and hatefilled language and that that.

"In part because the base line is literally from a talking head song but yes what's your but what's here selena gomez is better so you know what i'm talking about a kitchen or member i was walking down the street the other day on a distract must solve but then acea faiths operate thoughts on us car clown of play a code and generally get disappear but suspected battlecry offense i mean the understated vocal at you get a little words can i turn into tom steiner reliable service i'm glad we got in the iliad reference to gotta get that in there i would donate a kidney to this saw the hit song this is my favorite song in this list in it's my favorite song of the year you don't you don't it the talking heads thing is such an eyecatching thing at the first of all but what you the vocals her singing on this is crazy as it goes on like she does soy different things vocally yes as the song continues you're like that's pretty amazing taken off in the sort of whispers style that that gene refected on revival where just hurt her timing is just it just were really like delicate shifts of of tone in terms of the whisper and then went when she explodes for the loud part you know it's coming but it still absolutely effective but it's also a really great act on merge right now called sneaks who kind of oh is to the minimalist young marble giants a static in the same way that this does so it's like you know really kind of capturing a sudden it is sort of happening in the underground on a very very large scale that was crazy that there can be any commonality between any act on merge and selena gomez jeff says it really says it all makes the point so number fourteen is lcd soundsystem call the police and it's besides maybe hairstyle style song as the first song that is speaks directly to the moment and is just this kind of burning paranoia about what's going on in the world mateb that for second.
