Biden Banks on Moderate Vote in South Carolina
"All eyes are on South Carolina ahead of next week's Democratic presidential primary there the first in the south former vice president. Joe Biden picked up a big endorsement today from representative James Clyburn. The top ranking black lawmaker in Congress. Do we know Joe. Most importantly Jew knows us but Biden could be facing an uphill battle in the state as he tries to court. Moderate voters joining me now from the campaign trail in Georgetown. South Carolina Is Wall Street Journal. Reporter. Ken Thomas Ken. How significant is representative? James Clyburn endorsement of Biden. Clyburn is probably the most influential Democrat in South Carolina. He's been in Congress since the early nineties and is the highest ranking black lawmaker in Congress right now and his words carry a lot of wheat. Were only a few days before the South Carolina primary and a little more than fifty percent of the electorate is black here in the state so getting that support from Clyburn has a big coup for Biden. He's been trying to win here and set the tone for Super Tuesday states coming up and as we head into South Carolina's primary. How is Biden? Faring well polls show Biden ahead here in South Carolina but it's a narrow lead. He's dominated the race throughout here in South Carolina but as he has struggled in Iowa and New Hampshire the polls gotten much tighter against Bernie Sanders. He's also dealing with Tom. Star who has spent more than twenty million dollars on advertising in South Carolina so he could also be a factor in so binding is really trying to use the state as a springboard for his campaign away to calm nervous. Democrats out there who have long thought that he could be the best matchup against president trump. Can you wrote about Biden's courting of centrist voters? What can you tell us about that? As compared to his Democratic rivals who's presenting the biggest challenge for him there so Biden is trying to consolidate the more moderate vote in the Democratic primaries. He's trying to make the case that Bernie Sanders would be to outside the mainstream if he turned into the nominee and that down ballot candidates running for office in the Senate and the House would struggle as a result if if Bernie Sanders was at the top of the ticket. The trouble for Biden. Though is that it's a very crowded lane. You have Buddha. Judge who is a has had success in in Iowa and New Hampshire so far you have amy Klobuchar who is run a pretty strong campaign and other candidates as well or just trying to fill that lane right now in so biden is running the risk of Having a a splintered vote among moderates and that would allow Sanders to pick up a lot of delegates by the basis of support from Liberals Biden was asked during last night's debate if he would drop out of the race if he failed to win South Carolina and his answer was that he will win South Carolina Ken. What if he doesn't? How important is it for Biden to win the state if he wants to continue in this race his candidacy really does hinge on winning South Carolina? It probably is not a fatal blow for him if he were to come in second place but this is all about momentum in the ability to keep improving as as the calendar goes along and the the the risk for Biden if he does not win in South Carolina is that he won't have much ability to to win votes in these Super Tuesday contests. That are coming. Up On march third. Just a few days after the South Carolina. Primary wraps up. He's hoping to use a win. In South Carolina to connect with African Americans who who make up a large portion of the electorate in number of Super Tuesday states including places like Georgia Alabama Tennessee and in other states around the country.
Sanders faces brunt of the attacks at South Carolina debate
"Just before Joe Biden got the endorsement of the highest ranking black member of Congress representative Jim Clyburn he told ministers he's not taking the black vote for granted and says character is on the ballot sometimes I wake up and I think it's nineteen twenty and on twenty twenty Bernie Sanders has been dominating in the primaries compared to socialism remarks to Reverend Martin Luther king junior this is what I said and I quote all this country has socialism for the rich and rugged individualism for the Port Elizabeth Warren Amy called Afshar people to judge and Tom star also spoke about their commitment to racial justice I'm Julie Walker

I hate what's going down in Iowa...
"I hate what's been going down in Iowa for so many reasons reasons I hated for voters in Iowa don't deserve it who have anticipated this moment for a year for volunteers for all of the campaigns who didn't deserve kind of this debacle. We're now into day. Four of them counting the votes there in Iowa and we still don't quite know The the the final tally. I have some new information that I'll share with you on that but we saw some things go down yesterday. Bad were so problematic. One of the counties in Iowa is Black Hawk County and the chairman of the county posted on social media yesterday that he had ensured properly that all of the votes had been submitted from Black Hawk county a day before so now forty eight hours ago from today and that they still weren't being included in any of the results and when he said he had no idea why he at properly submitted them and so he went ahead and posted the results in south and Bernie Sanders one six by by a significant margin enough to give him a significant lead in the popular vote into Make tied in the delegate elite count and he said what they still won't include the numbers and by that time it was twenty four hours from then and after he posted it The the Iowa Democratic Party finally then posted the results added the results except they were wildly different print than what the county chairman posted in fact instead of almost twenty five hundred votes Bernie Sanders they had taken nearly a thousand votes away. Way And given the thousand took from Bernie gave them to Tom. Steinmeyer and Divall Patrick. You could just do the math and see where they had taken those votes away. And I can't for the life of me understand what what happened how that happened. Who did that? Who was responsible and people say well? Hey how do you know Tom. Style and divall. Patrick didn't get those votes. Well they have a first tally. And the second tally will in the first tally. Duval Patrick Literally got zero. He didn't even campaign there and in. The First Tally Tom Star had twenty six votes then. Suddenly in the final tally. Bernie's numbers plummeted. Tom Sti- fire has now hundreds and hundreds of oats Duval Patrick has hundreds of votes. Divall Patrick ended up with more votes than Andrew. Yang and others in a cycle. Hold hold on what what happened here. In fact it happened in several counties in their continued to be irregularities all over over the state and you know it has marred the results there in a way that is is just unfair to the people who've worked so hard and in. Here's here's the message. Running a campaign is not the same thing as running an an election and people have worked really really hard to run campaigns. They're all of the candidates like I tip my hat to every pre-campaign they've worked incredibly hard well. The people running the elections the actual voting mechanisms the the all of the back end tools and systems. They need to be working justice hard. Here's the issue and I had to explain this to my children yesterday. Say the Democratic and Republican primaries. They're not run by the government. They're run by the parties and they they a very inequality wildly not just from state to state county to county based on how how much resource they were given. Even how were they well-funded where they well-supported do they even know what they're doing. Who trained them? How win? Where did they run test? Like what it has shown me in a asset. This yesterday is just how incredibly fragile our democracy Chrissy can be how fragile it is and I'm incredibly frustrated that it's gone down this way but as more votes continue you to be counted we get a better depiction of who voted for WHO You know eventually. I hope that we have final clarity. Not There in Iowa The candidates and campaigns have had to move on even though we're now in day four without the final results. They've had to move. Move on to New Hampshire and other states. I'm going to be campaigning in Texas and California this month so there's still a whole lot of work to do. We're getting a better depiction of what happened. But it's given the entire country a glimpse into just how basic How underdeveloped our election systems really are and what happens is I'll close with this thought because there are two other stories stories that I have to tell you about what happens is when there's a blowout there could have been massive irregularity in that blowout but because it was a blowout? Oh out or say in the Republican primaries. Say on the ticket. There's just one person running in its in so virtually doesn't even matter if there were math errors voting regularities people. Don't see it because it was a blowout. Even if it was a blow out in Iowa and say Bernie one by this huge margin still could have had widespread right spread irregularity and people would just move on. But what happens is when it's close like this. All of a sudden people start kind of seeing the system under a magnifying glass or microscope. And you start to realize like Oh shit this is a mess. Absolute mess and and It's just given the country I think a lesson in politics and election systems. And so we've we've got a lot of work to do.
Tom Steyer polling at 2nd place in South Carolina, qualifies for DNC debate this month
"Meanwhile what's going right for Tom Stiers the California billionaire and presidential candidate will be on the debate stage tomorrow because of his unusually high poll numbers his polling jumped in two key early primary states last week a fox news poll showed him at fifteen percent in South Carolina that puts him second behind only Joe Biden and he's tied for third with Elizabeth Warren in Nevada at twelve percent it'll bump joins me now his national correspondent for The Washington Post any right about how Stiers shaping the twenty twenty election hello hello well before we get a star let's just talk about Booker what happened with him essentially what happened with him is that he was never able to get real traction his campaign and there are a lot of reasons that's probably the case one of course being that the field is so big another being that there are other candidates who shared his his sort of broadly moderate space in the field who were able to get more traction people like judge from Indiana were really able to get to eat into that space and sort of present themselves as new in a way that that Booker had trouble doing you his is the story of a lot of these cameras which is that it it's hard to get in front of orders nationally and brokerages was able to do it right and he certainly complain that one of the reasons he couldn't get enough facetime nationally was the DMC the debate rules that the DNC put forward he criticized the rule saying that billionaire candidates like Styrum Bloomberg can really game the system because they can put so much advertising on TV and really attracts people in in Paul's does he have a point there is he's got extremely good point in that the DNC rules were created specifically to trying well we know down the field but by doing so what the DNC ended up doing an advert only was rewarding people who were able to make a very strategic massive investments in certain places I and punish those who weren't so well Booker did have a national a profile as a senator from the from the state New Jersey he was not able to for example spend the kind of money that one could to either influence individual polls or get his name out and ends and get a lot of small donors to give to his campaign and that limit is is rich well speaking of let's hear a clip of tape from CNN yesterday where Jake tapper is specifically asking Tom Stiers about spending money for poll numbers ninety one percent of television ad spending in South Carolina is from you ninety seven percent of television ad spending in Nevada is from you do you not think that it's your millions and the flood of advertising in those states that that's why you did well in the polls and are now on the debate stage Jake if you'll read today's Washington post there's a story about this and what it details is what's actually going on on the ground I've been to South Carolina multiple times we have eighty two organizers on the ground in South Carolina I match your grass roots person I've been there there's someone who didn't endorse me who's a politician in South Carolina who said expire came down here he rolled up his sleeves he went out he listen to people he sat across the table he work okay so feel of what's the truth there is it's the money buying the polls or is he actually doing the work to get the support I mean a I think it sort of gives the game way himself when he says he has eighty eighty however many organizes on the ground as organizes aren't working for free and you can you know Cory Booker didn't everyday organizes on ground is gonna forty eighty organizer's on the ground right I mean did tappers numbers about that TV spending or write us tire is dominated in South Carolina and Nevada television spots in the reason he's done so is very simple the democratic rule said you need to be at a certain percentage of support in the early state polls in the waste tires I'd do that was poor bunch of money in the states that so far other came it's like Joe Biden Bernie Sanders aren't spending money in because they're further down the line right but Snyder has the money he just sort of put a bunch of money into the states in advertising there he can put a bunch of staff in those states push up his numbers in those states and hit the mark he needs in order to make the debate stage but will that translate into votes when it comes down to it when it comes to Iowa to New Hampshire and then later to South Carolina and Nevada so far it hasn't seemed as though it's going to work I mean one of the things he's clearly trying to do is get on the debate stage but after his debate performances it's not as though he suddenly shoots up in the polls he still only about two percent nationally debates are obviously something that should be reflected in national poll numbers because there are national events of people tune into I think one of the things we're going to see is after Iowa New Hampshire we will see whoever does better in those states start to see more support in the next two states down the line though as being South Carolina and Nevada and I think that'll start to flood out some of the attention it's Dyer has bought for himself and it's certainly possible to maybe Stiers all out of the blue find today big appeal from Democrats nationally so far though even though he's managed to get on the debate stage he hasn't been able to make a case the really persuades lot national Democrats to support even though he was early on the impeachment wagon he took out ads along time ago basically calling for Donald trump's impeachment is that not translating into support in the Democratic Party now aids late hasn't so far I mean I think that there certainly was an aspect of that that was that was viewed by a least among political observers as being someone self serving was pretty clear that he was using impeachment of sort of get his name out there I that said even though he has your right for months you know well over a year and sort of blanketing the airwaves with his own image and this call for impeachment again he's a two percent nationally in the polls and that too if that we're going to have an effect would be reflected in those national poll numbers so he'll be on the debate stage tomorrow but Michael Bloomberg will not and why is that because he certainly has been blanketing the airwaves with ads right but in different places Bloomberg has made a conscious decision not to take contributions from people and that has meant that he's it's impossible for him to meet to debate standards which require a certain number of contributions from people around the country and as such will Bloomberg Astana's he's were largely issued the first several states that are gonna be voting and really focused on super Tuesday the first Tuesday March when a bunch of large states on a lot of states including California and Texas go to the polls so Bloomberg spent a lot of money on ads but he spent it in those other early states he hasn't spent a lot in South Carolina or Nevada and if you look at the rationale behind that it makes some sense there are a lot more delegates at stake in that first Tuesday March then it will be in any of the four states that come up before then so do you see Starfire as this campaign goes forward into super Tuesday DEC Stiers star waning and Bloomberg's taking off one I'm not even sure that the star has much of a start of Wayne and it certainly did well in this fox news poll on some other polls that that have been doing moderately okay but he's not doing very well as a candid Bloomberg being a part of lunch money in the race he's not doing particularly well either but I think the Bloomberg strategy is designed to pay off later in the cycle then is tires I animal I mean star has enough money to stay in and told the general election if you want to do which is something the Bloomberg says he's going to do is actually so I don't see our missile dropping out anytime soon just question how much money he wants the perk right so it ends worth noting that he's rich but he's not Bloomberg rich right it's like one point six billion verses fifty four billion yeah as Michael Bloomberg will point out very few people are Michael Bloomberg rich right well what does this say to you when you take a step back and look at the whole big picture of money in politics what is this a two year does money translated into votes can you say about this early well I mean obviously when we're talking about these poll numbers were not necessarily talking about votes I'll be interested to see if Stiers decent position and some is always winning states were pointed out to buy his winning in both those states right now it's gonna be interesting to see if it does translate that certainly has in the past in the case that people have been able to pour a lot of money into campaigns and do better than you might have expected but again that doesn't always hold driver Jeb bush in twenty sixteen add you know nine figures that he was gonna spend both directly and have people spend on his behalf needed terribly in the presidential primaries so so it's not a one to one correlation but it's clearly the case that we are right now talking about Tom star and Mike Bloomberg while we are at the same time watching established US centers like Cory Booker and Kirsten Gillibrand standing on the sidelines after having announcer campuses money definitely does by you the ability to stick around as long as you want
Tom Steyer appears to qualify for next Democratic debate after new polls
"Action Democrats are getting ready for their debated next week in Iowa just weeks before that state's critical cockers vote the debate is Tuesday in the following the caucus February third and in addition to the top tier candidates qualifying for a ticket all of the stage is California billionaire Tom star but he said the cash to get there it's an expensive ticket he spent over ten million dollars in Nevada advertising the next closest Democrat was Bernie Sanders and a hundred and forty seven thousand U. S. C. political analyst Bob Shrum are in South Carolina he spent fourteen million and the next closest Democrat is people to judge and at one on but even with all that money spent star still has only about two percent support among Democrats compared to Joe Biden at twenty

Michael Bloomberg qualifies for Democratic primary ballot in Alabama
"Well folks if you thought. The Democratic primary field wasn't crowded enough billionaire businessman. Michael Bloomberg is on the case at. They're saying in March that he wouldn't run for president. The former New York York City mayor is apparently backtracking and preparing a run for twenty twenty bid according to a spokesman Bloomberg is expected to file the necessary paperwork to get on the Democratic primary ballot in in Alabama by the Friday deadline. Kate is not able to join us but we do have John Avalon with us by phone. John what's your first thought Ari. Well we're both New Yorkers. We know that Mike Bloomberg is flirted with running with the presidency. Probably a half dozen times over the past decade. This had been rumored There was a sense that he was dissatisfied with his decision. Not to get in. He saw Tom Star. Get on the ballot. Make the debate stage and I think it dovetails tails with something that you and I have discussed Kate. which is there may be a slot open for the Biden backup Centrist candidate who can win a general If Biden were to say there has been no major catastrophic flame out for Biden but other centrist candidates have really failed to rise. And so you see that top tier You know looking like Biden Warren Zander's And so a lot of national DEMOCRATS HAVE BEEN CONCERNED WAR Warren Sanders could lose to donald trump and Buddha judges just an unknown quantity. This is really Bloomberg leaving an option open By making sure he's on the ballot in the first State Alabama. This is not an officially getting in yet. It's keeping options open. And he's got fifty billion dollars to do that with so you shouldn't count them out no matter what your politics yeah. I think that's right. You know he hasn't gotten the race yet. He's merely just filing again in Alabama. Obviously the New Hampshire. I'm sure that lines coming up soon. And that I think will be a truer test right eventually. You either have to you know what or get off the pot and right now he's on that pot But we'll see whether or not he actually stays on it or gets off but I look I. I think there's a real question. I have John which is how much of this Bloomberg thing. And obviously there's there's been a media spike of interest with this. How much of this is merely the New York City media knowing Michael Bloomberg? He was the mayor here obviously for over a decade. How much is this? Just him being being in the back yard and therefore thinking highly of him versus sort of what the actual polls in the data says. I we know that. The Democratic Party is evenly evenly SPLIT BETWEEN MODERATES FLASH CONSERVATIVES AND LIBERALS LUSH very liberal Michael Bloomberg Certainly the centrist record in the context of New York City politics But the left's anger it even the notion he might get in a little odd given the fact that he's been the biggest funder for a lot of liberal causes particularly gun reform and climate change. I think the big question is Joe Biden who obviously occupies the lane. He would run in Has It demonstrated ability today to win over African Americans and working class voters. Mike Bloomberg's ability to do that is untested unknown and probably probably shouldn't be assumed to be an easy path. He is a billionaire from New York City then again so is Donald Trump and he successfully run as a conservative populist but the sheer volume of money if Mike Bloomberg gets in he and his team say they're going to spend a billion To to to be competitive in a primary in anything anything beyond that in a general so I don't think you can you can count them out And for those centrist and moderate and conservative Democrats. He'd be an appealing candidate. Can You bring the other broader coalition totally unknown. It's going to be a question of him. His record symptomless charismatic. You know ground Game politician amount of money can achieve almost anything

"Tom Stiers seems noticeably more comfortable than he had seen in previous years can you shed any more light on that well you know Tom star became a billionaire by doing a lot of research and really betting on shore things things with guaranteed returns that was his investment strategy and so if you think about that kind of this mindset geared toward campaigning you have a somebody who gets the best experts to teach him how to speak how to dress how to talk I look at the camera he's absolutely got a plan I think it's easy to say Hey this is just a rich guy with a mid life crisis but the truth is he has been working at this for a long time and if he's going to jump into this race as he has he has a plan for winning and I'm not saying he's going to win but I'm saying he has absolutely invested the time in the experts to get in there okay this is a guy who is poured more money at correct me if I'm wrong than anybody else in this country individually into campaign contributions over the last forty eight or ten years absolute dining about somebody huge amounts into both campaigns and his own NextGen foundation which pushes for or environmental issues and also voter registration for example so he's already got this next Gen army out there of folks who are registering people with the clipboard for example and I think it's important to remember that he's been at this for a while it's not a brand new thing he's necessarily just jumping into having said that he you know the timing people go it's he jumped in so late but it's right after the debates it seems to me pretty clear that he sort of said okay let's see what is the others plays out and then looked at the merchandise and said I don't think any of this is gonna work I need to jump in and he may be being too polite to say that they had the timing seems indicate that he sort of saw the went to the circus he saw the show and said I need to get in here speaking of the debates Melissa you know it's one thing to be trained to do that sort of thing but it's another to be able to be quick on your feet some people have a knack for it others down do you have any indication as to how he might perform in a debate situation what's difficult because because he hasn't run for office before we never actually seen him in a debate but for example in Manny's last night he's he's does a lot of these forums so he's pretty used to certain attacks our questions about his money and was actually what he's doing in the race so we've seen him actually sort of hone his skills in a community forum setting where he's getting questions from the audience and seems to be doing pretty well at that as well but at this point his his big hurdle is getting into the debates right because who's going to donate money to a billionaire and you have to get a hundred and sixty thousand donations individual donations to get into that September debate he's gonna miss the July debate that's off the table but to get to that September today he's got a five hundred sixty thousand people to at least give him a dollar and that is a hard sell when you live in a big mansion we've only got a few seconds but he's got this list this next year and so he's going to leverage that to say just sent me a dollar so I get the debate rages ledges next task well so he has resigned himself from the next Gen organization but presumably he could use that infrastructure to ask those folks any member has to come from twenty different states numbers for two people per state it's a sort of algorithm so he he definitely is going to be looking for there to at least get into the debate and then he'll work harder I'm sure at what he's going to do that Melissa came KPIX five.

Billionaire Tom Steyer enters crowded 2020 Democratic presidential race
"San Francisco billionaire and activist Tom Stiers made it official today he's running for president it is video announcements tire called the system rigged by corporations and the politicians to do their bidding the former hedge fund manager who has pushed hard for Democrats to impeach president trump says he plans to spend a hundred million dollars on his election campaign NPR's political correspondent and former KQED Sacramento bureau chief Scott dentro joins us and Scott Tom's dire is familiar to us in the bay area but is he known nationally did his impeach trump ad campaign succeed in raising his profile you know one of the big themes of the last six months or so of covering this sprawling primary is that even the people who I think are well known who are very well known to political reporters and people who follow politics closely really aren't that well known to the country as a whole so I think he will have a lot of work to do especially getting in the race so late in getting in a point where it's extremely unlikely he will make the debate in a couple weeks so he won't have that moment to introduce himself to the nation on TV what times tired does have is the email addresses of the more than eight million people who signed his online petition to impeach trump right there that is a list that you can start contacting and start out trying to fundraise off of even though you know as he said he's not could be doing much fundraising himself but he's got a large network to immediately start talking to so you've talked with a lot of voters what's your sense of how they'll respond to yet another democratic presidential candidate to be honest I don't think there are many voters out there who are saying oh my gosh twenty four candidates wasn't enough we need one more and Eric Swalwell the bay area congressman earlier this week was actually the first candidate to get out of the race so looking about the issues that Tom Cyrus talking about I'm not seeing many issues where he has a policy your stance that is an already well represented in this field I think he's going to have to have a big challenge ahead of them to make that case as to what he can bring to the table that Elizabeth Warren Kamel harasser Bernie Sanders are Joe Biden or people to jazz or on a non aren't already talking about well the Steiner seem to be trying to position himself as this populist progressive candidate what did you make of his announcement today it was interesting to me that he really didn't talk about impeachment at all and that's the thing that he's been focused on for the last few years Tom's tire has been involved in democratic politics for a while when he said several pet causes over the years he was a big environmental activists before that talking a lot about climate change which he certainly talking about now is a presidential candidate I'm wondering if part of the reason that star got in the race is that he felt like his voice wasn't being hurt as much once he'd taken himself out of the race remember a few months ago early this year Tom star said I'm not going to run for president I'm going to focus on might need to impeach effort and since then he really wasn't making the headlines that you make when you're running for president so I'm wondering personally if that was part of the calculus here well he's already made headlines by saying that he plans to spend at least one hundred million dollars on his campaign how much do you think the front runners are paying attention to that I think that definitely get their attention we saw over the last week or so the fundraising totals from the front runners in the race and they are no where near that amount Joe Biden and Pete chads the south bend Indiana mayor both raised more than twenty million dollars and other than that the other leading candidates are all in the teens so a hundred million dollars certainly way more than that and that would buy sire the air time the staff that he would need to make up that lost ground of of sitting out the first six months of this race Scott dentro NPR political correspondent thanks for

"Hope you guys had chance to hear the congressman and also Tom star Corinne, move on dot org was started as a newsletter. That was going out to some Democrats who were saying, don't impeach Bill Clinton over the sexual affair. Let's do a censure and move on, like a lot of people forgetting the name was born out of the Republican zeal to impeach president literally for nothing. Right. You make of the Democrats being dragged. Screaming. Please don't make us impeach please. I don't understand it to you. I it's, it's quite frustrating joy. And that was a really great interview that you had there with the congressman look, we are not just in a constitutional crisis. We are also in a national security crisis. We have a president of the United States, who thinks he's above the law who feels like he's not accountable to no one who breaks. The law violates the law nearly every day by by not complying with the subpoenas. Can you imagine joy if you and I did not comply with subpoenas? We would go to jail, where we would be Brown. So they would not be shy about it. They'd put a straight to jail and the thing about it is what needs to happen is they need to take out, congress needs to take the politics out of this. It is really not about twenty twenty. It is not about who's up who's down in the polls. It's about holding this president accountable, who constantly, just defies like early on in his in his in his administration. He was kind of playing around with the guardrails now he's going right through them, and he knows it. We're not taking the fight to him. We need to not play on his playing field. We need to say no. This is not happy. We're going to take it straight to the president of the United States. And I get it. I get that the they feel that the people in the United States voters are not there with impeachment. But that's the same thing that happened with Watergate when Watergate happened when they started with impeachment proceedings. The people were not there. They were not ready. And then what do they do? They move forward with it. They presented the EV. Evidence they presented the facts. And by the time it was over there was overwhelming support for impeachment, so we have to do this. We cannot is their constitutional duty for non an additional, a lot of people know you as a great guest on this show Palo mind, but also really one of the honestly one of the greatest pollsters in this country, really, really brilliant. Pollster, wouldn't you look at public opinion in general, do people tend to move toward strong leadership. That is exhibiting that kind of strength or toward reproche Mon, people who are more conciliatory toward, because Democrats seem to believe that by being the most conciliatory, they can be that is how they secure twenty twenty do you as a numbers guy believe that. Absolutely. I believe that the American people respond to strength, the American people respond to reasonable leadership that reacts to the moment, and when what's obvious you know, with all due respect, the congressman Rankin, he seems to be suffering, what the congressional democratic leadership seems to be suffering from which is delayed cognitive dissidence and dissonance. Joy from recognizing this idea that is unprecedented, admittedly in the American experience, that the United States of America is under attack by the sitting president of the United States. That's very difficult. I think for them to understand and believe they need to face the facts that after two years, where we have seen nothing but evidence in our faces now confirmed by the mall report that speaks to illegal obstruction that they are either bordering on a dangerous, dereliction of duty at worst, or dangerous night. At Tate, best in this idea of hunting to the twenty twenty election. And let me get resolve also under very naive idea that the twenty twenty election is going to be normal. Let me share dirty little secret with the American people. Donald Trump is not going to act like a normal president seeking reelection in the campaign..

Trump is gearing up for a presidential run the billionaire heading to three key early caucus and primary states, Iowa, Nevada and New Hampshire and just the next couple of weeks and Tom Steyer is out front tonight. And Tom look at this point all signs point to you running. Well, Erin, I haven't made up my mind on that question. I'm obviously considering it. I think in any case the political conversation in the United States states takes place disproportionately in the early primary states. So what I've done is trying to put out the five rights that I believe Americans have in the twenty th century, and the logical place to push that out and discuss it with the people of the United States is in those early primary states, whether I run for president or not when do you think you're going to make that decision next couple of months, here sooner? What I do think. So, but let me say this. I'm thinking about it. In terms of what I can bring that isn't already available unless I believe that my background, and my beliefs, and my priorities are different from the other people who are running. There's really no point in being one of a very large group of contestants of candidates. So of the group running right? You know billionaire Michael Bloomberg among them, right? And some of his issues overlap with yours things like climate change. He is going to spend more than one hundred million dollars of his own money..

"That's eight four four three four four twenty four twenty three. You can also reach out to me on social media at e w Eric's need, w e r I c k SO in you can actually get me on Twitter, Instagram Facebook at all those places Nancy Pelosi is well causing a little bit of controversy this evening, among progressives. Who really what to like her? She said in an interview that quote, I have those who want to be for impeachment and for abolish abolishing ice to really winning issues for us right in the district. We have to win. I don't even think they're the right things to do if the evidence from Muller is compelling. It should be compelling for Republicans as well. Well, and that may be a moment of truth. But that's not where we are. Wait, what she doesn't think impeaching Trump or abolishing ice are the right things to do. Now. This is actually a big deal because you've got democratic donors who have been around the country running ads on an impeach Trump campaign. Tom star being the first and foremost of them. He is a billionaire democrat donor environmentalists who is demanding Democrats take action on climate change. Oh, I've got some stuff on climate change night. Big report on ocean warming retracted we'll get there, but he wants to deal with climate change. And he wants to impeach Trump. He was even running ads on Fox News nationwide about joining his campaign to impeach Donald Trump. And a number of New Democrats. Oh, they're elections to Tom star. And here comes Nancy Pelosi saying, she doesn't think abolishing ice or impeaching Donald Trump are the right things to do. It is a war for the heart and soul of the Democratic Party. I want to go back to this clip from Roth when I played earlier where he mentioned Stacey Abrams and the grievances. Were the media doesn't focus all Republicans. But listen to the opening one more time what he says at is where they did. Well places where they did not they drove off the idiological cliff. You mentioned the the suburbs of Pennsylvania, and what's county one of the candidates out there and Scott Wallace grandson of former vice president Henry Wallace. The apple did not fall far from the tree. He ran a very far left campaign. And he lost a key district for the Democrats. Yes. Because he went too far left in the moderate swing districts. The Democrats going far left did not last Caroline Bordeaux in Georgia's seven was why. Expected to win. Even the Republicans thought she was going to win because she felt so comfortable that she was going to win. She ran a pretty progressive campaign on gun control and other issues, she wound up losing her story is mirrored around the country the far left. Progressive candidates did not actually win. And yet there is a strain of progressivism out there that is fighting Nancy Pelosi over these issues, and she's caught in the middle of all things within the Democratic Party because sixteen democratic members congress, actually, I guess she's a fifteen because one of them failed out today. They lost their their election. So fifteen members of congress who will be coming back next year, including Tim Ryan of Ohio who challenge against Pelosi last time, they've all signed a letter saying they're not going to vote for her and they're rallying around congresswoman fudge shoe progressives eight because she is a traditional black democrat. Meaning she is culturally conservative. She. Believes in traditional marriage, and progressives can have none of that. They've made it very clear that they cannot have this woman as their leader. Even though she's a minority even though she agrees with them on ninety nine percent of issues. It's that one percent. She doesn't agree with them on and they are livid over it. And this is playing out as well inside the democratic primary when we come back Beddoe Aurore he said he wasn't going to run. And now, maybe he is going to run in. Bernie Sanders is thinking he may run in twenty twenty. There's a big story in politico that they're fighting over intersection Elodie. I'll explain when we come back..

He's bringing the dough. And this is what he says this is a president who is breaking all of the norms all of the laws on a daily basis when you watch what he's done at the end of this campaign when you see the ad he ran when you see him saying to law enforcement officials, you should go to the polls to prevent completely fictitious voter fraud, but actually to intimidate voters. This is someone who's breaking his oath to the American people is to the constitution and the. Those are high crimes and misdemeanors, and it is urgent to get him out. So listen, you're going to be people who tell you that if they investigate and if they try to impeach him. It's going to be good for Trump in twenty twenty. They're going to be people who tell you that if there's bipartisanship that's going to be good or it's going to be bad. And by the way, it's dangerous. You look at the person that sent the bombs last week. With all the Trump stickers on on his fan. This had always been a troubled person. That Charles Grassley. The chairman a house Senate Judiciary committee had referred Julie sweat, dick and her porn star. Lawyer Michael avenue the DOJ criminal referral for messing around with the false allegations and much of the questionable things during the Brett Cavanaugh confirmation hearings. Apparently, according to Breitbart, NBC news. Literally hit the information that would have helped clear Cavanaugh. That is the headline NBC news hid information that would have cleared cavenaugh of the rape allegations being made by avenue as client. Apparently. She totally recanted her story and NBC knew it and didn't report it. On September sixteenth cabin on his loved ones were dropped into a pit of hell did allegations of sexual assault from Christine ballsy Ford, although her story quickly fell apart during public testimony. Democrats and their allies in the establishment media did everything in their power to personally destroy cabinet as a drunken serial rapist, NBC news and avenue played a huge role in this campaign, one notable exchange was NBC breathlessly publishing. An airing assault allegation against cavenaugh that was quickly exposed as a hoax. NBC did not even bother to independently corroborate this allegation prior to airing it, a democrat handed NBC the smear and NBC ran with it. This was cavenaugh setting up gang rapes. At high school and college to make matters worse. Bright mart says it they now know that NBC news withheld crucial information that undermined swept Knicks allegations. She again, the avenue ATI client who accused Cavanaugh spiking punch bowls. At house parties. So and he and his buddies could engage in gang rape. We know that NBC deliberately withheld this crucial information because NBC is now admitting it had the information all the way back on September thirtieth September thirtieth is a week prior to Kavanagh's confirmation during the most intense days of the scandal. When his confirmation was still very much in doubt. Here's what NBC did not want the public to know if you recall, although he withheld the name Abbott naughty tweeted out, a sworn statement from a woman who backed up sweating outrageous rape, allegations, her statement, the second woman swore that she too had witnessed cavenaugh spike punch bowls. And take sexual advantage of girls. Unbeknownst to all of us NBC had interviewed this anonymous witness on September thirtieth and she recanted. But only now is NBC news bothering to report this. Quote, referring to Cavanaugh spiking the punch. I didn't ever think it was Brett the woman said to reporters in a phone interview arranged by Abernathy on September thirtieth. When asked him the phone interview, she ever witnessed cavenaugh act inappropriately toward the girls. The woman said no on October third NBC news again spoke to the woman this time. She all been accused avenue. Of fabricating her statement. It is incorrect that I saw Brett's spike the punch. I didn't see anybody. Spike, the punch I was very clear with avenue from day one that I never saw it yet. He brought her forward as a witness when pressed about abusive behavior toward girl, she wrote in a text I would not ever allow anybody to be abusive in my presence, male or female. I didn't see it avenue. It NBC news. No, they withheld it. Until after Cavanaugh was confirmed. Had they come forward with the second witness having been made up Rampton lied about what she saw it would have blown the confirmation hearings sky high. So this is why people don't trust anymore. What comes out of the media when anything related to Donald Trump is funny filter.

"That just be the playbook then let mansion run his campaign campaign let warren run her campaign well that's exactly what people like chris van holland are saying is that you have to have the local issues and and it certainly makes a lot of sense but there are some move on dot org and yeah there are people like tom star who is pushing for the impeachment of donald trump who really want to push that envelope and and keep the democrats focused on on as party those sorts of issue but you know things like you start talking about the teaching donald trump and that's only going to energize republican voters and some of those swing states one interesting aspect of bloomberg is reporting on this leading up to the midterms joe in twenty thirteen after the the republicans lost control they did a post mortem of you know what went wrong in their races democrats didn't do that in this in this election cycle that that's pretty stunning yeah that is republicans had had a very specific problem to look at in that case they were concerned about demographic changes in the us and appealing more to hispanics and other other minority groups democrats have not had that sort of self report there as much as a lot of republicans complained that they're still fighting the two thousand sixteen election and that's true they're actually still fighting the two thousand sixteen primary campaign joe has a blue wave looking now it's latest polling show well it has tightened up in the the generic ballot but frankly it's it's a little bit early to be putting too much stock in those as as a real indicator there is i i have not quite bought into the entire blue wave narrative but there are still a lot of good signs i think that the for for the for the democrats in terms of you look at the turn out in the primaries and the amount of money that the raising has been has been pretty good on an individual candidate basis and there's there are a lot of openings that.

"To do to address them it's almost as if they're just waiting for the republicans the mess up and vote for me because they're still because they messed up and they did take credit for our you know there is the senate race in alabama um and they say that they mobilize people and they got all these people out to vote you out and that needs to be replicated across the country that's great let's replicate that across the country that was but that's basic grassroots organizing that we've gone away from it got this guard tom star running around doing with the democrats should be doing well but new i i get emails from him the ekeus as they see what allow no good if you don't wanna be from him asking for people to register to vote and that kind of thing i get emails from democrats as of the money right well because he doesn't have to ask for money so that none of those reasons asking for something besides money in addition to my parallel thinking here at once again we tweet it we have this all the time we can run on two tracks have never seen on both tracks one of them is they are stinky and here's our message or the other way around here's our message is what we're going to do and they're stinky right because i think if you don't do both waste they'll where we are now democrats will continue to lose you have to do both stinky but this is what we got and this is how we go run this play so tom's tire he doesn't have to ask for money he's that compelled to so he just get out there and tell people this is what's going to go down whereas but but but we're talking about two different things no we're not doubt we are because yes he even have to astra money i get that but the democrats just ask for money to point okay well and so that new saying they're not talking about.
