Oh, yes. I'm talking with somebody about that the other day. The woman I'm seeing now used to be a teacher. So yeah, you'd be surprised how many people have taught. That's why I really respect people who have made it like 33 years. I'm just like, how did you? Because year 5, I was just standing there making worksheets. I don't know if today's gonna be the day. You know, you just a Xerox the sound and you're just like, okay, we're gonna hold it together. 'cause there'd be kids that you know are gonna be a problem that day. You can feel it. You just see when they come in the classroom and they're just like, you try and get ahead of it like, hey, what's up, darion? And they don't say anything, you're like, okay, it's gonna be one of those today. It's teaching shout out to all our teachers. You guys are doing God's work for real. It's a real job. Tax free. That's what I say. Josh was a teacher. Did you know that? No. Yeah, I can't see that. I taught in Korea for a couple years and from kindergarten up to high school and you're exactly right. You can explain why I saw your picture over there with a red line through it. I was doing USO tours. Do not let this man back in the country. Yeah, you truly don't appreciate teachers until you do it for a little while. I remember I got a letter from one teacher saying she could tell which boys would be in prison. She taught fourth grade. They're selling drugs out of this apartment complex as they took over. And when you go into buy the drugs, you show your ID, you go through a metal door, you buy the drugs, and you leave out another metal door, and when I went and bought legal marijuana for the first time, Tom is the exact same setup. We walk in. I was like, I was like inside of my childhood. It was just like, I was in the Carter again. It was just like, you show your ID, you get buzzed through a door, and then there's a beautiful showroom, and then you go out the back door and you are in an alley where there's a dead guy. And you're like, how did I get back here? They're taking credit cards now, right? They take it's a weird thing. They take credit and debit, but I think because the banks can't touch it, they do it like almost like you took cash out. So if you're purchased, it's like a $111. They'll round it up to like one 20 and then give you $9 in cash back. It's like a weird kind of ATM. It's like the way when you get hustled on the street when you're ten and sometimes like, hey, can I get change for 20 and then you give them two tens? And they're like, I need three 5s, and then they walk away with $60. It's really almost feels like a weird cash hustle. Okay. By the way, minority report absolutely holds up. That's a great movie. Does it really? I'm gonna rewatch it. Which one is that? Tom Cruise, there's pre crime in the future and they have these people oh yeah, with the big clear screen. Is that the one where he walks by the gap and they tell him his clothes are going to be? Yeah. Yeah, and his cereal box plays a commercial forum. Right. All sorts of stuff. We have a moment which you did not, you did not like vanilla sky, which was kind of similar. I've come one 80 on vanilla sky. I sort of kind of liked it. Yeah, I'm one of the people that loves it. I thought that was great. Al Jackson is here to teach it. I need to watch it again, but just before we get started, Tom. And can everybody just take a second and just thank Tom Cruise for a lifetime of incredible movies. He gets like joked on or whatever, I don't know, we're just like not respected. Like this got his movies, he never disappoints. I was watching edge of tomorrow, which is like a movie that didn't even do well. The movie is awesome. It's great. It should have been a monster. On two different occasions, I almost couldn't unlock the car because the dogs kept attacking my tools and could let me get to the mechanism to unlock the air. We had a great story about it. So good boy. And a guy sent us a video of this, I think it's a little Broadway or puppy. It looks with gigantic paws that has locked the door and the guy hilarious. Dogs going, hello. I'm in here. Let me out. Do they want to be in there? Do they know what they're doing? Or are they just having the time of their lives? This puppy's pawns were just bouncing around. But just chicks at this guy wrote in and it's happening constantly. There's some sort of conspiracy. You think solo? Yeah. We'll get timid or on that. Oh. Also, Tom ruining people's lives. Hello morons and Christie with two E's. That's interesting. I trimmed my term my toe nails over the weekend and needed to put some finishing touches on them. And my husband and I are on our way to pick up a flatbed trailer to haul some wood, and for the life of me, I couldn't think of the word trailer. So I said giant wagon instead. And sandpaper sticks, by the way, I've known carpenters that have emery boards, I guess. I've done carpenters that have pulled them out to do a little stuff with them. They're very handy. I think in this room, dad, you're the person that wants to be a cult leader the most, but Josh, I think you'd make the best cult leader in practice. "In takes the power. Of course. And then as a trio, they defeat him. Right, but not before he destroys the temple that they're in. And basically knuckles gets trapped under this gigantic piece of concrete, like a pillar. And John save them. And sonic has the choice to leave or save them, and he saves them, but sonic can't swim. So then, so sonic saves knuckles, and then sonic's like, but wait, don't leave me behind. And then we see knuckles come back for him. Right. And then they have the bonding period on the beach where instead of fighting each other, they're like throwing sand at each other like talking shit to each other. Like why did you save me? And why did you save me? And you can see they're starting to Bond. Yeah, because up until this point, knuckles has a growing respect for sonic for how sonic treats tales, and he's like, this is actually more aligned with my values than robotnik is. Right, and sonic basically says you don't have to be alone. You know, there's people here that will be your family. And you can see knuckles kind of warm to that. He's like, I want that. Yeah, he's like, oh, and then he has it. And you see how happy he is then. Obviously there's an adjustment period, but and when they fight robotnik, robotic makes this giant robot, like just huge robot. He ends up becoming like this ultimate being and he takes all these tanks and everything and he builds this huge gigantic robot, which is the robot from the video game. Right. Separately, they each try and defeat the robot, and they can't do it. But as a team, they can do it. Right. They utilize each of their powers and each of their strengths, and they really let each other shine. I don't think. And I think that was important for sonic because before he was like, I have to do everything on my own. Where it's like, well, you're failing on your own, maybe lean on someone else and have someone help you. Yeah. And then sonic becomes gold song. Yes, I forgot they become, yes, he becomes goal time, which is like highest sonic. Yes, and he ends up taking out robot X robot and so knuckles thinks that sonic is overwhelmed with the power now. So he tells them he's like, this is no longer the sonic you know. And then sonic gets a chili dog and knuckles. And he's like, no, it's the sonic you know. He's like, oh wait, nope, there he is. And I think that goes to show that if you know who you are and you have a good heart, power can't corrupt you. A 100%. I mean, ultimate power doesn't have to corrupt you ultimately. No, it doesn't. It only does if you're seeking that power for malicious and selfish reasons. Like say you're a wealthy businessman. And you're already made enough money. You don't need to destroy smaller businesses to continue making money. You've already made enough money. That's as greed. That is great. But I also think it feeds into capitalism. It all comes back to capitalism because it has this idea of like, you can never be settled in what you're doing. You always have to be pushing for something more and always be going for something more. And what's the next thing? And what's the next step? It's like, can I enjoy where I'm at? I'm here. Yep. So in the movie, at the end in the robot falls. Yeah. The heads cut off and you see robot and extending the knee open and the robot falls. So everybody believes robot next dead, but he's not. I don't think he is. He can't find it. But you can't find him. But then we see his secret Postgres zooming see a secret sonic his shadow something. Yeah, so things are going to happen. Yes. Well, we have to talk before we go. We have to talk about one of my favorite scenes from sonic two, which is the wedding. Oh, that was the best. It was the best. So pretzel ladies, sister, is getting married to Shemar Moore. And Shemar Moore is military. And so they go to Hawaii for the wedding, not sonic, of course. And she hates Tom anyways. And she's like, don't ruin my wedding. And of course, Tom ruins the wedding. So he throws a ring in sonic, blows a blizzard into Hawaii beautiful, by the way. And then, so now it comes out that the wedding is big. And that Shemar Moore was just marrying her to get info about sonic and the family because they think all alien life forms are evil and need to be contained, not true. And so then her mind breaks. She breaks, I'm a break. If someone like faked all this wedding and be like, you better paid for all this because they didn't mean. And then she loses her mind. My favorite part is when they go to the Mai Tai kart and she just starts chugging a mind. And she's like, she's like, I needed that. I need adventure. And her sister's like, you good? And then they take tails as backpack, and they have all these really fun tools. And then the best scene. Well, I don't want to give it away 'cause it's such a fun shock, but I will cause spoilers. We spoil. We spoil we spoil Isa. She drives a golf cart. And almost hit shemar more. Like he has a physically jump out of the way. And then she runs it into the stage where the band is set up. No people, of course. And then just huge explosions behind her. She's like chugging a bottle of champagne and she's like, where are you at? Come on out. So funny. I was dying. She was, I thought that was the most realistic thing. Yeah, it was funny. Especially like when she uses some of the gadgetry. And when the cyst is surrounded by three people and she throws the thing and it takes all three out. She goes, I didn't even mean to do that. Or it's like the captain and Shemar Moore. And she has like the gun and he's like, that's not a real gun and she blows up. She's like vaporizes the cake and they're like, oh God, that is a real, right? Yeah, she's like holding it. She's like, now what? No way. I thought she is so funny. And any wedding scene was hilarious because I thought she really shown. And I was like, I would watch a whole movie about the wedding. And like the fallout. She was great. Wolf falls in love with her pieces. Yeah, because she's like, I don't want to say crazy, but because she's so passionate about how wrong he's done, he's like, wow, she's like, she's a woman. She can hold her own. She can do all this. I was having rolling. It was really funny. So you gotta watch sonic one and two. Both of them are totally worth it. They're both on paramount plus. Paramount plus also now has the rights to them. And they are doing a knuckles spin off show, which should come out in 2023. Oh, nice. And then the sonic three movie with shadow sonic should be out, sometime in 2004. Very nice, very nice. morning Well back here in the U.S. where you guys are out in your European vacation Markets continue to sort of oscillate around here It's really all about a lot of the retailer stocks and I guess consumer spending and how it's holding up We did get those Costco numbers here And it was interesting I mean comp sales growth was actually a pretty good here but there was some concerns really about margins Those margins continuing to compress And this seems to be the story for a lot of the retailers out there even the ones that are I guess to a certain extent supposed to be recession proof Costco shares down about a percent on the day And then you have big lots which has a similar model to Costco though not quite the subscription model Those shares down 20% That was a different story Comp sales were down 14% and more importantly they posted a surprise loss for the quarter flipping from profitability to a loss and once again it's about margins It's also about inventory Inventory they are jumping almost 50% in the most recent quarter and that was also the story for gap which reported last night Their inventory levels were up 34% year over year And now a lot of concern that a lot of these companies that have been posting these high inventory levels are now going to be a position where they're going to have to start discounting discounting into an environment where they're already being squeezed with regards to their profitability Gap shares down 18% This was really an ugly report here and most of the commentary we got on the call didn't provide any clarity as to what the path forward here to reverse that trend Now one of the bright spots out there on the retailer space is Ulta Beauty Tom Everyone is out buying makeup and other sort of products that make themselves feel really You know tracing up and down the Roman steps or whatever folks are doing these days those shares up about 8% Not only that but they actually raise their outlook and they said they're seeing no shit on consumer spending there Yeah it's big You know you need your money Yeah Romain afterthought has 52 bottles on her bathroom sink Yeah I have no idea other than ultra beauty's making it hand over fist Yeah Continue Yeah well they have a way of convincing people that you always need more to look well and then of course there's a seller Yes they do I think they're a great marketers over there If I may say that workday which point out keep an eye on the software stocks today's time I know you're a big keen on that but workday missed big time here on their backlog growth which has been decelerating although their top line growth was still pretty good but we're seeing this all around here where investors really punish these companies If they don't continue to post that foreign exchange market is you look at not the yen but always a currency pair to different currencies And then the pros use the Bloomberg to triangulate They'll look at Euro dollar They'll look at dollar yen and then the pros go and look at the bring it around circuit It's €2 Euro yen as well Jordan Rochester joins us down G ten FX strategist from numerator great to catch up with you This morning is it a time here or in the parlance you can make big figure bets Absolutely I mean the volunteers You're outside Did you wake up in the morning After your full English you're like let's go Well we've just had 4% in the dollar selling off over the past few weeks weeks so it's really big moves on the back of very little So it's a very volatile environment So it's volatile environment but it's an easy one to get right if you look at for example all the calls for parity that have gone the way of the English breakfast for someone a like Stephen major One O 7 and seems to have gotten some foothold there Indeed one of the biggest flaws in my sort of way of approaching things is getting too sat on these big parity figures But I do think if you look at Euro where we are here today we've had a big 4% rally higher What's really strange is this Chinese remember as weaker but Euro stronger the main trading partner of Europe is under pressure here with their lockdowns and not enough stimulus yet the Euro stronger and it's all boiling down to what I've been surprised by is the U.S. terminal rate pricing really softening and that's kind of allowed this week a dollar But I think we probably had a little bit too much of that dollar weakness and we could see Euro go back down low next week And that's been basically your call right You've been talking about how the Euro does not
