"Is His style. Believe it or not I mean you can actually intermingle both Beers and category and pass him off and competition they both meet the style guidelines criteria for each. It's very odd right all mess on the you're going to like a Russian imperial style, which is like everything catch them saying. I. Love it thick and alcohol. Not that. I love quarters orders, the basic basic style, American salvors, the basic American porter or English porter. There are there's huge similarities between the two and considering the factor two different categories. Now, what about immigration get down to like the Malt used and the? Use the same. Old, same. To, get to get into the actual beer, you'd have to the history there is. Some significant history. But behind the Beers I normally like to keep the porter's a little bit more thin and body like a pale. But. You use just enough roasted grain too affect the collar, right. So keeping a beers almost semi translation. Brown color go for a black color but still having semi translucent. Right next to. Do the puertas on the lighter ab nine the south A little more heavy heading. Rights. Guidelines over there. Could. Categories. Only if you go in English, quarters that's under rounded. British beard. Have Balked End If you going on the British you know the British style we are in. Are stoute's were completely different paddock category stoute's are dark beer so Definitely stoute's are going to be darker Turkey for sure you know. If you're looking at the guidelines but. His beer in it's all great. Sure when that's what I have to say, that's my last words of this actual podcast. So. We've been here battle river. Glad. We're finally here person with Gary and an. So check out the beers rate them and see what's the, what's the address, a sixty, nine, ninth street and beautiful downtown Toms River Okay and we've someone was gonna come here parking etc. so I mean I think that's the biggest misconception about downtown Toms River if you're coming by car, there's a lot of free lots that are around the area that are within walking distance. Meters off at five o'clock at night But you know look for those free lots at at any point, and you can also come by boat, which is another great thing I. Don't know too many brewers that you can come by boat you can park. By, Water Street or in Hoodie Park, they have a plenty of places to tie up and you can walk right up now less than a block. That's awesome. Richard. You came to your on your yacht. I thought about that and I'm like I just don't know the clearance the bottom. You on dumb beach it you know. Okay. I would take his his revenge hathaway and now would take that with me. Let's go go back to hide is the title of that where does that come from Hudson? So we I know but Richard doesn't know where that actually comes from. So in in downtown Toms River was a major part of the. American Revolutionary War. So when the peace talks were basically settled the British and Joshua Huddy. He was the head of the militia here in. Tom's river right and they they took them up to red bank and they hang them. And that almost set the peace talks apart they almost went back to war after the agreement. So how do you park is named after a block away? So it's it's part of the historic part of town of downtown. Block for. The blockhouse again, Black Hobo blockhouse on the radio So the block houses here in in in downtown Tom's because he access to the water is where they kept the saw and the and and everything they defended it because they were able to get food to. Areas. Yeah And and actually the first group hub in Tom's river, which Joshua. Pub, which was in the ground round, which is over yellow over bottom orelon hooper Abbas announced the Tuscan House right. It's a Tuscan House now used to be a brew House and brew pub called Joshua Hoodie. Brew Pub. Named after him so and I know that was under consideration something to do with how do you when you were thinking of the name there was but again, I, mean, you know we wanted to keep it true to downtown and part of the historical. Part of it but with Joshua, huddy being one of the original ones and times whenever we didn't want to use that name so. We have a beer name there. What's your other four pack? I really like things from modern times or stone out in California so i. Throw a couple of those on there. That'd make exact. Pretty happy. My Buddy from fear Crappier Planet My Body Rob Zach say a district manager. Manager anyone position he has five states. Have Greg on your podcast. It's crazy. Yeah he's a he's a he's. I'm sure he he spelt lifeblood making that place and. It was a cool documentary. It's appleans on Netflix or something like that beer called Beer Jesus the fascinating about that. I started backtrack because I never knew who listens from the show when I'm on another podcast called fear of craft beer planet and on that show those three guys J. Rose works for a company called hundred and brewing. Rob Four Zach is just as a regional manager for stone brewing and Ryan. Egan is works for. Tone would, which is a craft you know prep arena Clinton and on the dope that doesn't the about beer who worked in radio so. I know a little bit here now. I. They were just people who were those three were on their hands and knees to to the video screen. They didn't do you know communities from what I learned. This is absolutely amazing. Everyone of those guys were the nicest people none of them were mean none of them were had any whatsoever Richard which your four-pack. Okay my four-pack well. Zima. Yes. I'm a big Fan. Russian perilously actually got the chance to drink that with rob cracked up in my oldest one. Apple. Shares ago. That was a good time. Yeah. That's the one that was gone. I'm going to put in I. Thought of this after you did this last time I remembered how much I love this beer from just go through classics through time Lavigne Dumas, which I love so much is such a great. Too I remember listening to an old show much I love that beer. So go running through classics. And then I'm going to go over the bridge or over the pond and going to have to go with Probably Oh. So we are back here about a river with Gary in e, and now you do in gentleman I don't even remember. Thank you so much for the pizza that was fantastic. Pizza Very Mexican is that what does that pizza? Honey. WAS ON. Let's get the real pepperoni. You are familiar pizza I'm pretty much pizzas. pepperoni Lee real. As the COPS when you? Chris Lewis. Some Basil and some drizzle honey on there. Some fresh fresh Mozzarella so good. It's really wasn't goes very well with this Porter that I'm drinking right now. I'm hitting the really nice. Our exactly right. House the courthouse our so nice. You get that Nice. Refreshing cucumber there's just enough tar to make it what you would call. Sour. Salaries you get. If you talked to Ray about that one, he was got a little bashful for the day from handling so many cucumbers. F We. Don't, order if. We have we have one of our ratings was to someone like knock down because they cucumbers I was like, why would you order the Cuban here on? This happened to me just with our Buddy Rob Towel from Jersey beer guys and had a girl. We went to double nickel and had their pickles pickled goes and exactly the same thing when I thought of this, which I knew you were going to making it exactly the balance would be right. I thought this is either going to be disgusting or great. You know because it's either going to be all cucumber cucumber bomb and you're GONNA you'RE GONNA go. Or it's GonNa be exactly what it is really balanced. You still get the nice sour notes and you get them until tastes like beer. There's that refreshing cucumber finish. That's a good solid beer. I. Think you actually described that Richard pickle forward very. Very. Pickle. It's all offensive. No. Here's the thing though. Wasn't what happened with that beer in the case of double nickel was you got this pickle shot right in the front and then you got that sour goes all the beer tastes right after it. It was really well done I didn't think was even possible that you could make something like pickle beer still taste like beer there's a there's out to them. That was really well done because everybody told me up pickle beer can never work. There's there's there's people that doing for some really interesting things with You know aggressive flavors you know our neighbors next door to them shot at times the distillery next door to do a pepper pickled pepper back what their their house housemaid vodka and clown they. Yeah. They they it's. It's off the charts if you like. They do like it's like pickled homemade pickles and have an Arrow, and I have to go there and check it is well, it's it's interesting. Cool. All right. Though if you don't like a cucumber if you don't to pick not gonNA like. Didn't seem like a blueberry blueberry you're not gonna Let. A Raspberry Blueberry Beer, right that's not going to be your thing but I mean if you like. This is why we I mean. We try to be a little bit more than a bar when you go into a place that actually makes the product you know we do does. He takes time out of his day to make these Nice Menus and actually. Pretty description onto the product to service just read the has. To, have someone like. Go through the beard like, Oh, I liked the name like now read the description of the beer because there might be something in there that you might not like where there might be something that you like. So then we try to encourage people to. Actually take a little bit more time and to learning a little bit more about the craft and. Experience. Right. I mean you want people to come down here and have a good experiences not about just having a man having a beer right now while we're talking about the experience and we talked about the inside of the taproom was part of Gary, party decision on this location was based on the fact that you actually have access to Washington Street and I have outside courtyard. That was a major factor when we did find the building and then we wanted to be downtown originally right from the START I mean we really thought we were working with the town a little bit before that they came with their rules of of allowing a brewery downtown distillery really working with them to try to get. Things passed that would allow us to do it down here. Once they were on board was funding location, and as you know, there's not too many buildings down here for sale but we lucked out with this one I? Mean this building is absolutely despite that we that we love then we wanted to be that that'd had an outside patio was only You know. You know more advantageous especially with like what's going on I? Mean we started this project well before the pandemic. So we.

"Supporting the local businesses during this time. So on Friday and Saturday nights, they shut down Washington street so that all the food places can put. Tables Out play some music for for them and they allow people just to walk around and then just enjoy the night. That's a very cool like Bohemian sort of thing to do too. I. Love. Little. Cool. Little towns. Have those sort of I don't recall a party atmosphere? You know what I mean very. Fun Town oriented. He wants to stay in town and spend money in the town and revitalize town and keep the. Yeah. We're getting a lot of little support families around I. Mean Kids Are you know with their parents I? Mean they're they're having a good time so. I. Don't WanNa call it I don't want to call it a hail Mary but you know. An order for this town to compete with you know your Asbury as you read banks your. Whatnot. For, small? Historical. Town, you know especially during a pandemic, you know you do have to. You have to go all in. You had to put all your chips on the table and that's what they did and we really appreciate it and it helps it helps the business is out and You know it's it's pumping lifeblood back onto the streets that has been gone for a very, very long time. Absolutely you know and the thing about the honestly the thing about Tom's river is. You know you had mentioned Asbury in Red Bank. Tom's you're actually I believe is a bigger town overall because all population wise. But Tom's river is so spread out and it's important for these downtown areas like downtown Toms River to be related revitalized have customers coming to have people coming and visiting. Of course, you can't fall to the wayside. This is this is part of history down here. Absolutely especially during this, you know especially during the pandemic where things are not. What we consider normal I know one or two big things. Downtown here is the Halloween parade every year it's actually I. Think it's the largest. One of largest in the country, the largest I don't it's can't share. It is canceled. That's canceled this year but. You know I. Know that that you guys have seen it over the years and what it's like down here. So. It's important to have businesses that want to invest into the downtown. So you know you guys really have done a great job doing that here and really this is this is a state of the art taproom. How many beers on tap right now and we have a couple of kicks that we're trying to. Trying to keep up a consumption rate but it was normally about their team we have thirteen on top We have some that are missing right now that are going to be back on tap this weekend. We're we're not full capacity. We have another in that's coming more renovation going outside. But eventually, when we're full-scale, it'll be twenty six years on tap. So it was actually twenty, four, co two, two, nitro. Okay and we're we're just. Trying to keep it I didn't realize this. You know it was. Everything's good in your head until you actually open your doors when you open your doors I didn't realize how thirsty people were down here and the volume of consumption down here as ungodly. It's absolutely ungodly I mean they're going through. not to skip ahead and jump top a great thing but it's somewhere around two, hundred, thirty two. Pizza, enjoyed that's from Jimmy Capone make some good pizza the. Pizza. Been Down here for a long time for sure downtown Toms River. So so just in I believe we're only open right now today is our first Monday. We're open Yes. People can enjoy some local games and enjoy some of the local establishments around get some. Decent local food. So between the Thursdays and the Monday now that we're open and we were only open Friday through Sunday. and. The consumption rate has been like somewhere between two hundred and thirty, two, hundred and sixty gallons. just in a twenty four hour. Twenty four hour span like two, hundred and thirty, two, hundred and sixty gallons and it's we we didn't see that common so. Trying to keep up growing with consumption is tasking. Beer town though so it is right Jimmy. told me that's how he's like you are not gonNa believe the amount of beer. The amount of people you'RE GONNA get down here during a beer and I was like. I'm familiar breweries. And get some thirsty people. I ever he wasn't cadman these. They're sucking US dry as it's A. Poll cooperation. because. It's a beer town, but tom has a lot of pride. So they all the people around here do want downtown to succeed. So they're supporting us. You know pretty significantly what's on the right now he's he's thirteen beers like what's the scope across the topless? Cracking into I have a list here. So right now I fear that came out the first beer brewed on the system was called. It was called the go full day summer session Al and I I just call it. Now that's like our. That's the first came out and system I. Think it's kind of static crosby and like the first beer that we brewed and that's kind of one that kind of like sixty. So let's go. Baby. Yeah, Yeah I. Was a little mad have turned out a first but you know. As very on my biggest critic and. You know as much as I wanted to criticize. It was one of our best sellers so That's that's GONNA be brewed. A It's more of a A. Cuddling summerish type is kind of like a shanty. A lot of Tangerine going on there. Some Citra Mandarin hops that it's sounds like it's it's a very good bureau. I'll grab some here in a few I'm just going to go down the topless. Sure. We have our courthouse our which I call it dollars kind of funny because I got. A sour beer and we're like, well, just call a courthouse our you know no one's no. One's happy when they go to court. The House up the road. Yeah. that. Is Our. cucumber and honeydew sour. WHOA? Yes. Oh, and also when I do my sours, I, try to lean towards the Light side of. Were it's not gonna be overwhelmingly sour it's still sour, but it's not gonNA rip your face off if you take a sip of it so I try to keep things a little bit more on the palatable side. Yeah. Sure. So that's courthouse our and are. The mainstream mosaics Blueberry Raspberry Ale that I've been making as a home brewer. You know as you know vehicle tell you with his his raspberry wheats, and all the stuff that he does he's been this is one that I've been making home for a while, but it's very, very good. Nice. Little High test comes in at seven percent. But it's but the deep deep color and flavor. It's been one of our more popular beers and believe it or not the the hops it's it's actually more hops and really don't get along too well but this one As well rounded and it has a decent bit offset, but it's not better. It's the right hops. All hops and fruit rights using the correct ingredients to correct tools for the correct job. Yeah. That one is a good seller. We have ourselves. And our flats. Ri-. My partner he's. Thal Seltzer cocktail wizard he's instead of making. Flavored. Seltzer taking tap space he's I just make a bay seltzer or a flat because people don't like carbonation. Okay I'm that's not really me I'm not a I'm not a cast guy or. You know any of that jazz but. The Hugh Sell Make, ten percent senators, ten percent flats the original run was eight percent on the Seltzer is, but they're they're refined now at that time percent. So, they come out almost tasting identical the champagne just because of the alcohol content and they're they don't run through center fusion filtering. It's Fixed about to. Go through the floor of an there it's going on. My stool is..

This have real Mike in front of you and not have to listen to people in their hollowed out bedrooms talking to their computers. Yes. taproom. Awesome. First of all this place looks amazing. TAPROOM, but to be in a an exquisite, just really nicely place with so much five till one, hundred and fifty, one, hundred and seventy years old. Gary and Gary, and once you tell us a little bit about the building here because we're here. Now we've talked about it before I've written about it. But now that we're actually here in the building, tell us about it and and really talk about some of the renovations that had to be done in here because I saw this when let's face and win it was a freaking mess in here so. You know again sad we don't know how old the building is. It's anywhere from one hundred and fifty to one, hundred, seventy. It's anyone's guess but let's just say it's really old but we are in store portion of downtown Toms River. So you can expect that I mean the renovation equis was a complete Reynaud to be honest with the you were here when things are a little bit of a massive had the. Floor cut out the only thing we're really kept here was these two beautiful brick walls You know that mine the building, and the rest of it is really a complete renovation job. We brought everything up to code. We bought everything up to the ambiance at you're looking at. It's kind of look that we really wanted to get I mean keep that old feel but give it a good vibe meg. Richardson. Absolutely beautiful and like I said I know this building because you know I've worked here downtown for twenty five years right across. The street I've seen this building be a number of different things. You know the latest actually was there a very nice restaurant here called river market at great food great chefs but you guys have really revitalized the building I. Know There are some pieces that you couldn't save that. We here because I remember when you first started the tear down discovered, there was I guess tin ceilings near Riverton Molding. Sailings in molding it was absolutely gorgeous in here. But I know that you had to do a lot of work. Here when there was the whole in floor. and Ian was lowering the fermenters downstairs with the hand crank crane and was was doing here. Cranked Right Ray and I man, that was a that was a hell of an operation. It was very sketchy. We should back this up a little bit here. Maybe talk about why there's mentors in the basement. Well I. Mean I mean so I mean if you talk to Ian here. This is not the ideal place to run a brewery, right? So You know we we picked this building because we wanted to be in downtown Toms River. We really want to be part of the revitalization and the and the rehabilitation of. Of the downtown. So, when we found this building there wasn't any place to put the. You know the additional pieces of equipment that Ian needed to to fully brew. So We had to put you know some of the Blue House up upstairs and and the rest of the fermenters downstairs, and it was a task Vick said, we had the floor cut out. we had somebody with a A. Skid steer in front barely getting a clearance through the windows about two inches on each side and then Ian, and ready lowered the the tanks into the basement the empty floor. Hand. So just her for people who you know you're just hearing what your ears you can't really say let's going on. So it's it's downtown area on mainstream with curbside parking metered parking. Ah. With that being said the front windows to come out and we are production brewery. So we have a decent bit for manners and sized barrel sesame is a seven. It's an actual seven's a little bit oversized about eight and a half. Almost nine barrel says if you look at, it looks like a ten, it's very, very close to attend, but it will yield probably eight and a half almost nine. So but that is the reason that system was chosen because of the size of the vessels are the actual. Only, things that fit in here. So we maxed they maxed out. The actual vessels for the size of the rooms that they were going in and vice versa. When they had to come downtown these trucks had to block off traffic or the skid steer. You were saying, pull out the front window, bring them all in the floor had to get cut out. We had crane down all the equipment I mean crew we had to skits for their front window and that took all day all the believed the police were not they were We were not their biggest fans that they were blocking half a main street. And it's it's it's a busy road as you as you know. And Yeah. So Way is also an issue. So a lot of the stuff has to go downstairs on concrete and the rest of the end is upstairs with one of our double bachelor manners a fifteen like I said and they're oversized. So that's Almost closer to a twenty barrel, for manner. And you bring up a really good You know topic one of my favorite parts of the build out. So Niazi upstairs system is honest. An independent suspension steel structure. So the whole building could fall down around it that house.

"Tom rivers, what is the latest from Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. We'll latest darkness descended and live. Flames can be seen rising to the sky. So this is not contained the roof has gone. The spire is gone. The twin towers are still there. Now, the fire is moved to the interior of the cathedral itself. And it is not. I say out firefighters are dozens of firefighting units are there, and they're hosing down what they can shooting in these hoses into the large area where the planes are coming from. But it's you know, it's ten feet forward nine back and they're doing what they can at this stage. Question is what if anything is going to be left? When all is said and done will it be enough to be rebuilt or not tell me any indication. You know, one thing I I was watching I was glued to the screen there. It seemed that took a long time for any sort of firefighters or hoses. Our water was is that just it was traffic. What was the story with that? Anything? Yeah. We were watching the same thing coming in on feeds. I don't know why it took so long. But initially we were told that. We're trying to get people away get out of there. Save lives. But yeah, it took it took a certainly a considerable amount of time for the first units to arrive in start pumping some water on the on the roof. I I've heard that. They don't know what started that thing yet. Have there been any movement as far as that goes? No. I mean, you know, it's all conjecture even officials in the fire units. They're saying it's probable that. It's related to the renovation work elaborate you've seen elaborate cage, if you will of scaffolding were they were working on the upper sections of the cathedral could've been a spark from the electrical device could have been a flame from maybe some kind of a cutting tool something of that nature, but that's kind of the leading theory granite yet. In terms of you know, firefighting efforts that are going on can you give us a little more? Is it like one one hose four hoses? How many people working on? This thing is helping. Yeah, there's dozens, but it is a large large area. They're looking at. And again, I don't know what they're what they're logic on focusing on which part of the flames, but you can see a number. I'm looking at right now on on a live feed a number of hoses trained on different parts of the players. They've obviously got their orders to work on their own sector. But in the fire is still winning. Tom rivers. ABC news is with us. And Tom I understand that. There was a concerted effort to get as much integrity items out of there as they could you know, anything about that. Yeah. I mean that would be that would be something that would be grab what you can. But having said that during this renovation phase. A lot of the conic items were already taken out any possible silver lining. Some of the things already were out of there in a warehouse before this even kicked off. Tom. What happens next thing? I know you said it's night year going to try to work through the night into tomorrow. Yes. We're gonna work through the night and worked for tomorrow. This is not going to be completed and finished at daybreak. They're going to they're going to be on the site for a number of days, any indication of how long do you think it's going to take contain this thing? No, no. Just dealing with with what's in front of their their noses and again. Yeah. Estimates like that. They don't have anything. We appreciate it Tom air. Thanks, so. Yeah. That's something that I see something like that. And you think well, that's all stone wall. Everything inside is old pine and stop and me, and my wife, and and some we were there, I guess like two years ago today almost and it's absolutely gorgeous structure, but with your point inside, and I was reading a few things just on the history of it apparently thirteen thousand oak trees. Yeah. Cut in the twelfth century. You know, like an entire force of trees were cut. And this is what was in there. So I imagine a tree that was, you know, hone down into a beam that twelfth century goes up pretty quick, you know, and the whole thing is, you know, but just in and it's really tragic. I mean, just reading smaller things here. I guess. The the north rose window the south rose window west rose window, mid some of the most intricate stained glass windows in the world are all built in. You know, twelve fifty twelve twenty five and now, you know, possibly done at this stage of the game the bell towers for whatever that's one little Ray of silver lying, there is the Bill towers are still for I see on TV. You know, I'm not a firefighter or an expert here. But I can't see this getting contained in any large degree at all. It's it looks pretty pretty bleak right now. And again, it's it's nighttime in this fire going pretty good now, just like the interior part of the building scaffoldings everything y'all my wife, and I were there on our honeymoon years back, and we were gonna go and do the tour, but anything organized you just get in line and away you go. Did you go inside? Oh, yeah. No. He was whole thing. Went up in it. We went by there. I'm there were I'm by L. I have no idea how many hundreds of people were in line as well. You know, let's just take a picture of it and walk around outside. I it's. I don't even think there's actual, you know, all the light is let in is is through stained glass and kind of an intricate array of that what you kind of lights the place up. It's it's something else. It's just he. No, you, okay. Building this. And that, but the thing is is this started construction thing, I think eleven sixty three I mean that is. At his own. Think of all the history at seen in the French revolution crews all these sorts of things that, you know, just kind of stay stood the test of time, and you hate to see, you know, if in fact, this was a case the thing go down for some renovation worker kicked over something in the building on fire that that'd be such a shame such a shame. We're watching it on TV right now. And they have they're showing the front of the cathedral, and it's really Erie see that rock there with the glass there, the big circular stained glass over the main entrance. And you just see the glow of the fire. They often too. We'll keep you posted on that. But now we check in with rob. And traffic.
