"You don't become the greatest of all time if you're soft, okay, so and Bruce Bruce knows that I did think that Bruce would would deviate a little bit from his approach The tough love with Jamis, while very raw, I understood it, and I thought it might actually be good for Winston. I was surprised from what we heard earlier this year. How about you? I wasn't at all you know, BT because we know that history will tell you that Bruce Arians gets close with his quarterbacks for reason. It's one so that they are on the same page and that there's never confusion And when you're looking through different, you know scenarios in a game plan your You know what someone's getting out like, so you could debate with someone without being offended. And so he gets to know them personally for that very reason the positive side But he also gets to know them so that when he needs to be tough on them, he can be and it's not as if It's gonna affect them personally, It's more we gotta keep our personal relationship personal in our business relationship business. But the only way that happens is if you have a strong coat, close personal relationship, and so Here's the one thing, though that worried me about it this off season and maybe we saw this little bit earlier. Maybe that's why we heard all these inklings that things weren't copasetic behind the scenes in New England. I mean in in Tampa after Tom Brady came down from New England. Is. How much time did Bruce Arians actually get to spend with Tom Brady? You know, I mean, how much How many, you know one on one just hanging out talking football. How many times did that actually happen this offseason? The answer is probably not many knowing how you know the coronavirus at the time was it was You could go to someone else's house, right? It wasn't like, you know, forget small gatherings of 10 people. It's like, dude, don't go don't know. Go to anybody's house. And you don't know don't have a conversation with someone you don't know. So I bet that early development of the relationship that Bruce is so used to and Think critical to establishing his relationship with his quarterbacks. It just didn't happen on DSA. Oh, yeah, early on in the season, when we were hearing these things at all you know, Bruce is overly criticizing Tom Brady that comes from Brady's camp. But it's probably because the understanding wasn't quite there yet. You know, I've always felt that you know if you scold me if if you challenge me if you admonish me That's fine. As long as I trust you, you know, I have to trust you. There's got this person's gonna be mutual respect. And if there's mutual respect, there's generally trust. Okay. And I think that you know why. Yep, Yep, I think it could get really interesting if Brady has a playoff dud. And there's an early exit. But then again, that's that's down the road, But then I want to ask you. Okay, so if we just navigated this couple of months of feeling out And Bruce being Bruce and Tom handling it. Well, then why all of a sudden did this happen yesterday? I don't time looking at, you know, he gets a lot of criticism for not putting up the points. I think some people expect, but His quarterback rating over the last seven. I think seven weeks is third in the league right now. Yeah, I don't. I don't. I don't know anybody's criticized in time. I mean, what he did at the end of the half and to start the second half is very, very few teams can score 17 points in a matter of five or six minutes. Um, No matter if we if we don't make a first down on this first to third downs, I don't care for you. If we finish that for 17 points out how we start s O. I mean, yeah, He's not getting enough credit for what he's doing Well, because the head coach was was reluctant to dish any. "I was personally surprised that That he was so forward in some of his criticisms early of Tom Brady personally, not that I didn't think that Tom could handle that. Tom's gotta. We've got to reshape things. Who knows if Rogers goes back to back you never. I mean anything's possible. Um but in totality, the achievement at coupled with the individual, the team's success couple of the individual achievements. Tom Brady is beyond reproach. Now again when you're barely drafted and you know you're you're constantly flooded with the imagery of of of a skinny muscle lists Tom Brady at the combine back in the day with with saggy boxers, and he's doing the cones. Really? It's like a five horrendous Looks like a complete, not athlete. You don't get to this point by being incredibly resilient. So this has never been about Could Tom Brady handle the criticism? "Tom Respect that or Ceylan love it ladies first. Okay The the most kind of magical day that I remember in recent history. Is I was traveling with my mom. She's a elementary school music teacher Xiao can she got a grant to study Japanese folk music? So we traveled for six weeks from the complete north complete south of Japan. And we decided to take day with just the two of us and we went to Hakone which is like at the base of Mount Fuji. And we got lost on these. We went the wrong way basically like there is a straight path to go to her konate, and there's like going around the other side of the mountain. That's the way we took and we were on all these like the switchback train that like. Kind of zigzag up the back of a mountain and and we ended up being on this boat. That goes around this beautiful curve with a shrine is run by trees and fishing boats and everything, and I'll never forget going on that switchback train because it was hydro season. and. We were out in the middle of nowhere and they were all these like we were coming out of these very like jubilee esque. Mossy. Like, train tunnels, and then you come out and then the son was like coming down beautifully on all these different colored hydrogen Jaz and just like it smelled so sweet and it was so like your though like bump and creek of the train and is, and then we'll. The nature and I think that was one of those times where I. Really. Like connected with my mom and Mike what I personally like in my life. So that was like a a very perfect day for me I think. I love that. Good. With that. Also. Beat, entire Studio Ghibli Film. happened. Did the perfect they happened or is it going to happen? That's You Swish it up so you Know 'cause I'm thinking about it because it's like you know as the perfect day, the one that you will strive for is it or is it behind you? It doesn't mean you can't have better good as well but in my mind like. where I think about like quote unquote really really good days I've had. But what I would think is the best day is in all honesty like finishing up a project to create a project whether it's film I wrote and directed or you know working on something that we've done with the podcast, some kind of sense. Obviously, I'm married to the woman my dreams and she's the most beautiful whatever. And then she puts her hand on my shoulder and says, you never have to work in life again and I'll just be so validated. So bored. Honestly look back and say I still want to continue working. Idea that you don't have to but they still choose to because it's what you love. You love thirty Omon you don't just make things you visit Sugar Mama. Yeah. Yeah A Lot. If she makes. Billion Dollars I'm okay with that but also it'd be like girl I. WanNa make sure you don't have to worry if you don't want to. But if I want, you know I mean. That's kind of thing where it's like the working. And then. At the very end of the day of just Kinda like you did a really good thing and you don't have to work anymore and just like I can rest finally. That that sounds so like I, you're Batman Fan I feel like that's What Bruce? Where all the crime is finally gone done and go the eternal internal and external and eternal battles have have and. They've all been one. There's no more battles to fight I mean in all honesty like what becky like I don't want to be bored, but it's just like you don't have to fight anymore. You're you're done like it's you don't have anything to prove. Everything, you just want to be able to work out a passion, not nine out of. Survival. POLKA. Respect that every we all except for Tom, Joe? And escape from our normal lives, which is interesting because you know when you think about what is happiness I, think it's the act of accomplishing things as you said, Tom Finishing a project and yet none of us pick that as a perfect day it was a day where we didn't feel like we had to do anything except maybe go for a walk at a nice place in. Yeah I mean it breaks not day to day right? Those are the things that stand up to us like being on a beach in Hawaii will his I'll remember more than that time. I drove to in and out Burger with a bunch of friends like it was fun but that beach was so memorable. Perspective shift like not being in something. That's your normal surroundings. 'cause like right I could give a very long winded answer of why that that wasn't long before to me. Go On for a long time. I think you're right. But I think thesis started meditation podcast where you just describe your your travel. Soothing. Yes. Boy. Soothing voice. But. Yeah I. Think it's just a perspective shift like you finally get a you get that it's kind of cathartic breakaway from from the normal hustle and bustle like toms is project based but I feel like they're kind of the same thing you just want that Cathartic release of like here's my normal and then here's like a departure and I think I think they're all saying the same thing but they come in different pack. Yeah. Minded happens at the moment that I can actually do the things that you guys did. that. Okay. I can settle down now. All Right Thank you so much for your time. I mean now says, last now is the shameless plug time. What would you like the on family to check out? Oh no big deal. Where do I start limitless? actually I love if they wanna find me on Youtube I, have created a channel called good times society and there I post sometimes comedy videos but mostly board game tutorial videos, and we'll see what else they oppose some of my twitter streams and stuff there. So that's good time society. I've a podcast called to boldly watch where NANSEN BUDDIES RE watch star trek the next generation I know you had Jonathan Breaks on the show. So of course, that was when I clicked on. The flavor for. What you guys are up to very exciting at. So you know watch along with us there. We're still in season one at about episode eighteen that we're chugging along and loving it and then Yeah I'm on everything at the BECCA Scott. So please give me follow if the if you can tolerate recommend the I have one question. We're did a good time society name come from. brainstorming for a really really long time with my friend who helps me write the scripts is sort of my partner in it in the business and. and. We kept shooting down each other's favored ideas I. WanNa call it gain teach thought was so cool. I'm on your game teach them. No, we're not going to call it that in the first video we shot I kept telling myself game teaching the intro and then we change the name and he's like Now we're stuck with this, I told you to do a safety and you refuse. Second Account Count. But I just like society there's a company called Monaco Society and I kinda like that. Who Secret, society five. Real good time. So you know it didn't come from anything in particular except for looking really hard for a name that wasn't already taken. X. Box. And harder to do. you so much for.

"You'll have to pay taxes on the account but we're going to waive the penalty so that you can access those dollars if you need to get to them and here's the other thing that's kind of unique is that they let you if you access this money. They said look. This is GONNA be taxable. We'll waive the penalty not wave the taxes. But we're going to give you three years to spread the income taxes you can spread the income taxes on this distribution over twenty twenty tax. You're twenty twenty one twenty twenty two so you do have a decision to figure out how you want to deal with the three year and then here's the other part talking about three year which is awesome typically when you take money out of retirement account if you go. Wuxi really kind of wish. I wouldn't have done that because this is important money. I need for the future. You have sixty days to put the money back into the retirement account and no mess. No fuss you know. They consider that you put the money back in. They have done some crazy here. Never seen this. They wrote in the legislation. You actually have three years to pay back this retire. This corona vars distribution so normally normally. It was sixty days to do that. And they've extended it now to three years thirty six months to get that money back into these retirement accounts so that's kind of unheard of so now you guys are probably trying to because we talk about financial order of operations Elliott. Tom Respect the financial auto order operation. You're probably trying to figure out okay. I've got this horrible decision. Now I gotTA figure out do I take pretext money. Do I take Roth Money? Which grows tax free. What's the right decisions we're making that? I want to go a little deeper because I don't hear a lot of people talking about this and you and we're so nerdy we actually covered this. Is that you and on our own private discussions. We said well. Let's talk about these. Let's I kind of lay out. What they're good at what they're not roth. What do we love about as it grows completely tax free supercharge domino markets? Right now are depressed. They're down so we kind of want those Roth. We won't that Roth money ready to pounce when it's time to recover we won't those assets to grow tax free. Now you can screw up the tax free growth of a roth buy yes you can get to the Corpus or your original contributions without taxes. That's why they're always an emergency kind of bank account that we don't really talk about but it is a pseudo backup emergency reserves account. But once you get into the the actual earnings there's a way you can blow up the tax free part so you got to be careful with that so that you. We know that you'd get out of the penalty. So if you're comparing those two accounts I would tell you financial operations. I think you would see an emergency order of operations. I'd probably rather take tax deferred money before I'd take Roth money again. Every single situation so nuance because one of the things you'd want to analyze this. How much basis do have in my Roth? Because potentially they're not gonNA get to that money unencumbered right no taxes. But if I'm having to start pulling out earnings out of my roth and I ain't gonNA subject to tax and I'M GONNA lose that future growth. Yeah I'm with you I think pre-tax might be the first bucket. I would go to if the basis Roth didn't didn't fit the bill. Cover it you of course always could put the money back within three years. Follow HIM INTO TAX RETURN. Get Out of the tax consequences but probably when we hit that slingshot rubber band effect of wing. Remember the faster we go down. Very likely v-shaped recovery the faster we go back. We won't those Roth assets there to take advantage of the of the tax free throws so again is a lot of folks are asking questions that we don't know the answers to and this is one that we see a lot imaginable. Hit this in the Queue Anna but a lot of folks and can spread this distribution over three years. Should I think about maybe actually doing some financial planning and looking at like Roth conversions? And that sort of thing. Remember in order for the cove nineteen distribution to qualify. There are GonNa be some things that have to be met in terms of why you took that distribution you had at someone else had economically affected if that the case and you only did it for planning opportunities. I don't know if that's going to fly. Think you're GONNA be in a grey zone and that's what I'm seeing right now a minute. We're going to get to the payroll protection program for businesses. When I read the clarifications coming out of the Treasury Department it ties into the common sense of what was the intent. What was the purpose making sure? We're not double dipping making sure people aren't taking advantage of things when we're in a time of need. I would be very careful of doing using the corona virus distribution for Roth conversions. Now that doesn't mean we're GONNA get to our. Md's we'll talk about. Maybe there is a planning opportunity. But that's not piercing. The intent of what? What the whole thing with this bill is so just be careful with that. So let's talk about next thing out. There is updates to loans from employers. Yep So this one is pretty big. There were some one of the big change they made previously. If you want to take a loan from your 401k or a loan for employer spot retirement retirement account it was capped at fifty thousand dollars. No matter how big the account was you can only get up to fifty thousand well. They're now doubled that you can actually go all the way up to one hundred thousand dollars of alone. And the second thing that they changed his previously. You couldn't borrow up to one hundred percent of the value of your account. There's a threshold that you couldn't crossover now. You can actually borrow up to one hundred percent of your entire vested account balance. So that's pretty substantial again. I think we should put a disclaimer on this. 401k dollars are for the future. They're supposed to be for your future self. They're supposed to grow when you take your army your soldiers out of your army of dollar bills. They're not working for any longer. So is something that you should do with. Caution and not hastily. I think there's something we talk about. In Bo- unit wants another one of our conversation making. We're really thinking we've we. We actually live this thing. I mean but it is one of those things. I won't people. This is our life. We've been living breathing this stuff. You Ask yourself a question. Is it better to take a loan or is it better take this? Corona virus encountered some of the things. We've talked about now. I WANNA qualify this. 'cause you're kind of your choosing between two not great decisions. I mean I will tell you. This is not a favored thing that you're like man. That's a great planning opportunity. This is like when you know you're in a pickle. You need the access you're trying to figure out what's the lesser of the two things that I'm choosing and loan in a lot of ways probably going to be easier for you not go pay taxes on it so we think that maybe there is some opportunities alone before you take a distribution because ultimately the the way that a 401K K. Loan works as you are borrowing money from yourself and you're paying yourself back and imputed interest rate whatever the interest rate in the 401K. Loan is but the big thing said you avoid that tax penalty when you pull alone out of a 401k. You're not paying ordinary federal income taxes. You'RE NOT PAYING INCOME TAXES. So perhaps if you needed ten thousand dollars it's easier to get less cumbersome to get ten thousand dollars out of your 401k. Then ten thousand dollars out of your IRA. It might be more advantageous from that aspect. But there's some things you gotta be careful well and I feel bad because I feel like I'm giving and then I'm taking it away because the two things you have to worry about with alone several things while you're paying back the typically you're reducing what you're paying into the plan as a contribution so think about we have a reduced stock market a financial market system that is depressed prices and one of the biggest things we talk about. That is your friend would involve times as dollar cost averaging buying an assistant matic process when you do the loan. It's going to take away your ability to maximize that opportunity. And then don't forget if you do have a career change or job change in definitely involved. Tom Job changes occur even more frequently. If you have an outstanding loan when you leave the employer it does become a distribution in. There is a chance. Maybe you think this could happen. You need to be careful because I don't know that that would be classified then as a corona virus. I don't know you could get yourself and you could miss out on that. Three year spreads right so guys. This is complicated stuff. We WanNa give you all the facets of this. We're definitely trying to be the financial mutants that are thinking about this. Giving you all the information but this might be warned. If you're really having to make those decision talk to somebody who wants to take into account all the facets and make sure that you're not missing out you don't know what you're blind spot is and what you're missing out is Bo. I want to kind of pivot now to our. Md's Y-. I'm so excited about this. Because I thought the last two were like. Oh don't don't do it. That's not awesome. That's kind of emergency. I'M GONNA argue. This is actually a positive one. There's actually some fun planning. We can do around required minimum distributions. I want you to do the kind of show them walk them through. We did a flow chart to kind of give people a decision maker but then I wanNA talk about why. This is a good part of the legislation. So we're having a lot of people asking us. Okay if I have taken for having taken if it's my if it's an inherited army so again we thought one of the best ways to lay this out would be in a flow chart so what we've put together is if you think about twenty twenty this present tax. Have you taken your or md this year? If the answer to that is yes and the next question you have to ask is was it from an inherited. Ira If the answer is yes. I've already taken an inherited. Ira required minimum this year. You're out of luck. There's nothing you can do about that. You're just kind of stock. That's unlucky that you did that at the beginning of the year if it was from your personal assets though if you pull your rnd out in January February march from your personal IRA because you are above the age where you have to begin drawing them. You can actually pay back under the payback rule. So yes you get that money back in there because the government said we're doing away with all these four twenty twenty so if you have not taken your NBA this year whether it's inherited or whether it's for your personal assets.

"Within the system whether it's the NHS whether it's justices some whatever it might be to make sure that those who've served properly looked after not just for short term but for the rest of their lives. I don't think I mean with the states. I don't think this is based on a recent conversation with With a guy called Dr Franklin Alice. He's a he's a online like podcast snapshot Snapshot and he's a let's call it not reserves National Guard. He's National Guard. He's think the brisker easing on he was talking about the. The Americans meant that veterans other veterans and some reservations about it Some some aspects of it for example a little bit sometimes with charity events problem or not just veteran. Anything like this. They're going to throw money at them. on especially where the medical claims and compensation medical problem money of them in an a veteran may not ever after work and his life but that is obsolete going to kill him as much as the injury could ever would. Have you know because in all this money? Nothing to this Blah Blah Blah. And he's spiraled downhill also. He was talking about that and their efforts to as population is not necessarily. Throw money out the need it. But let's see I mean doing doing something they with but I think we're America does have emailed is the the culture the culture the PR THE PR. They offer on the military to the civilian civilians. Perceive the military. I mean th you can go with few veteran. You also stuff you know. Stand up at. The beginning of much is missing national anthem and no old old. I'm able to say thank you to the troops and stuff. That's where I think. They're very very advanced. But I don't think that's maybe I would be a good thing was to get stage in the UK. Maybe not. I'm not sure the problem is that the well. The problem is not clearcut. You know A lot of issues. The the issues are in the main street and the media are around mental health around suicides on an people in love and the headline of Ptsd tag in love some. It's not actually a COUPLA means. The solution isn't doing removing in in the right way is an interesting one because I think we we often see hit. The military charities obviously didn't bring job in order to raise funds. You know they have to have to have a story which often is around you know. We've go veterans that are injured physically injured mentally Is the kind of stereotype. Seems to exist with lots of people that are looking. Potentially to employ veterans was over slaves. Bet perhaps don't have any contact or knowledge really if the services and that's all they know but the reality is a lot of veterans leaving and building very successful careers so I wonder if that's something that needs to change just in the in the way. The veterans are portrayed within Within the media well be looked at as well isn't it? Yeah I agree well. It's like I think there is a balanced be struck. We've we've gotTa make sure that those people seventy armed forces who need help get it This wonderful charities out there that do an amazing job but in the end we should. We really have to relearn charities. I mean the bottom line. Is that that that we do after launch viruses to provide support and that is incredibly important that that support is there but at the same time we do need to constantly be making the point that the overwhelming majority people who've served in the armed forces and leave go on to be incredibly successful because they've got a lot of transferable skills they nearly always have an incredibly positive wilco attitude. That means that they go on to be successful. And since I left the army and I've been in politics. I've employed a number of veterans. They've all been just got brilliant work attitude. Get on with it in order to get things done. Don't mess about. They just very professional in the way that they approach. Whatever is they're trying to do so we we do have to make sure that as society we look out for the people who need that support but at the same time will be careful not to undermine the overwhelming majority of service leavers who actually want to be really successful and have very rewarding professional careers. Once they've left it was a balanced thing you know. They're obviously there's always going to be a percentage that the KNEECAP and care foreigners she say that washed that be just the charities for the government as well By ICEE and here. You know so many veterans. Doing Great Work. You know. Setting up businesses becoming successful knows you know as you say building careers. Lots of different careers So you know it's it's getting that I don't think we hear enough in the media today about those stories So yeah I guess it's just ultimately overtime joined to get the balance right mental health one of the things I know know about three from reading. The book is going to be a nightmare. Like the I mean you got the operational aspects of all people killed and injured friends colleagues not just Asia Afghans an deal with the of the tragedy in your home life How how you how you were where you on. No mentally not me as you hours. You mean it Calms Issues Yod. You're pretty good place mentally how we way on an why is an absolute wreck. A very good question. I think I've been lucky in the sense that how tough but rewarding career career but period of my life serving the army that was very difficult on occasions release of challenging times and then every challenging terribly challenging time your personal life when my wife died. I think very lucky to have come through that I think the reasons I've come through it all mostly because I've had very good support from friends and family. I think having people who you trust whose advice you listen to. I think that counts for a lot. I also think though that I've been lucky that I found something else that I can dedicate my professional life too so the all may not a job is a way of life that consumes much of you all of you if you let it. It's not five days a week and it certainly not nine to five is not a normal job and it's not normal way of life. Politics is not what your boy. There is a way of life It is a vocation and I think I'm lucky in the sense. I have the opportunity to do something that I consider to be worthwhile so every single day. Two my constituents to get things done to make a difference and I find that extraordinarily professionally rewarding hard work you get a lot of grief and whatever you do will always be people who say you should have done a barrel so you get you get criticized but it provides for me this this amazing professional unity to dedicate myself to doing something that I think is valuable. I think in terms of my own mental wellbeing. I think that's incredibly important. Having a family three kids wife died. It was horrendous for all of us. Got Two small kids so I didn't have the option just turning on my cell phone just at a poem to the malls and start wailing into the wind. It just wasn't an option because it got to get to kids. Go Them Up. Getting READY FOR SCHOOL. GotTa pick them up from school and daily routine had to continue and had to be there for them so I think a combination of family and kids needing to keep the show on the road and having good friends and family who were able to help me through the toughest of times also then being able to find something else that I could really commit to really find professionally. Satisfying in that respect. I've been lucky and not complain about it because it politics could be pretty stressful place to be. Joe Was a great friend of mine. You know huge amount. Tom Respect for for Joe and it was horrendous. What happened to her and all of us now in public life on regular basis. We get threatened. We get abused. We get death threats. None of that is nice and you have to have the thickest of skins by think quite lucky in one sense that all the stuff that I did before it was harder. It was tougher. It's more challenging. The level of risk was much greater and I think to go back to my point about veterans. I think that gives you an experience and a perspective that when there's some nonsense happening today is not as bad as what happened in the previous job we previous life and therefore gives you that experience that judgment not perspective that means you not overly faced by in the way that perhaps the people might be so yet. It's been a tough fifteen years and the purpose of writing. The book was because I just wanted to try and make some sense out of it. I wanted to process it in my own mind in a way that I hadn't done previously and that's been really helpful to me. I feel much better for doing it. Feel like a way. It's been lifted off my shoulders but but the main reason doing is because I hope it will be helpful for the people and that's a sense of grief and loss now something that most of us go through different times in different ways up in a few morning friend of mine. His wife's just died from cancer. Same Age as me. A lot of people have asked me about the years of what I've tried to do with. The book is all of my thoughts and everything that I've learned from that. Incredibly painful journey through grief but do it in a way that it's been helpful familiar terms of getting off my chest but also will be helpful for other people who've been oral going through that difficult spoons themselves. I'll take two years that that is pretty much taken me five years. It's been a labor of love in the margins of life and other things on the train between meetings of scribbled notes and it's taken me five years to do it so it's been a long time curmudgeon. Because he's like the way I was reading it in the way. Some things from Vice. I think I read something. They did with that paragraph. I read some power. But you sit in Salisbury. That was me fifteen minutes. I wasn't reading the book anymore. I was walking my own head from from ten years at fourteen years ago so trying to pin down in economic emotions and all their memories that brings up because these things. You guys must have both experienced this this thing very odd. There are memories you forgot on it. Takes One person saying one or two or three woods in some random in an open? You remember this thing..
