"120 countries. I'm Michael Barr, this is Bloomberg Tom Paul. Michael Barr thinks so much. Bloomberg business of sports with the shift I watched the other day in baseball. I still don't get it. But now we have relief pitchers starting games. Jeff passing over to ESPN today with a smart article on breaking the cadence of starting pitcher to middle relief to one guy that mops it up. What we grew up with is gone. There is no Sandy Koufax anymore. You don't have that. You don't have the pictures that we had back in the day. The Denny with tigers, man. You don't even look records anymore. You don't say like it used to be, if you're a great pitcher, you had 20 wins in a season. Yeah. Yeah. Nobody gets that anymore. Remember the Baltimore Orioles had three pitchers one year Jim Palmer and two others that were killed. From a Bloomberg business of sports standpoint, is this just there were so much money that the worry about their arm is completely taken over. Denny mcclain didn't care about his arm. He would just pitch until. I mean, we all fell off. You're too young to remember this, Michael barber, there's a guy named Christy Matheson out of bucknell, who tragically died early of TB, but a guy like Matheson pitched himself out of baseball. I get that's the bad case. A hundred whatever pitches a game. Pretty soon he couldn't throw the ball, but have we swung too far the other way? No, well, I think this is the way you're going to see the game go, because you're going to have it broken down in three segments like that. You got started, then you got the middle, then you got the reliever. You're going to see

"Taking tough decisions that we are also cautious that we will help the Ukraine as much as is possible but that we also avoid that there will be a big conflict between you at Russia and NATO. Michael Barr, this is Bloomberg, Tom Paul. Michael Barr, thanks so much, Deadline Hollywood. He traveled to San Diego, Mexico City, Japan, Ken, London saw, then stopped in Barcelona. Tom Cruise did not mail it in on this movie. He did not mail it in on this movie. He was out there promoting it hard and it's paying off just this past weekend, Top Gun: Maverick exceeded $1 billion in global box office. That is pre-pandemic blockbuster numbers. And I'm not sure what it says other than if you put that type of movie in a theater. People will go. But I think people are going to be trying to feed our operators themselves are trying to extrapolate that out to some other movies as well. How is that divided up? How does 1 billion? I mean, I get it that they want to do a big top line number and we all get that. But how is that cut? Roughly roughly 50 50 between the theater operators and the studio. In this case, paramount, which is Viacom CPU. So paramount gets half that. And then what do they do? Well, then they have costs associated with the movie are probably cost them a couple $100 million to make the movie. Tom. Did they bring in 506 100 million? Yep. A couple hundred to make it. So three or $400 million. You probably got to cut Tom Cruise a pretty big check. Like the standard feed. He's making his 20 million plus. He gets the back end. And he probably gets what's called a first dollar deal, which is, don't talk to me about what your profit is paramount. I don't know about the top line. I'm talking about the top line. I'm Tom Cruise. You can't play those games with me. So it was a big day, and I think, again, most people are saying, what does this mean for the theatrical moviegoing experience? Will people be an Elvis out this week? And I know you saw it three times. Sure. Sure. There's Jurassic. So it's the big event thing is there. The big event thing is there, but how about just the romantic comedy, the drama, the we'll have to see how that plays out. But I guess the takeaway clearly is a movie business is not dead. The theater business is not dead, but it's a lot different than it was pre-pandemic, I would say. Where do data check right now? Green and the screen a little bit red right now, negative 44 and the Dow SPX negative 11 to Vic's 28. .46 on yield 3.16% of three basis points on the ten year yield. Stay
