I use a particular methodology. That's based on the work of the late elliott gould rats the father of the theory of constraints turbocharged by bill detmer with his introduction of colonel. John boyd's ooh loop in that whole philosophy the insights that come from deconstruction in construction of new ideas. What what boyd called building a snowmobile. So anyhow Give you some insight. "Good morning it is another great day to be a saturday in this part of the universe but my calendar says right am your host. Jeff ski kinsey in this. Is the voice first careers podcast where we talk about stuff some of the technical stuff some of it just business stuff. Some of it just filler stuff. But hopefully. there's not much of that by the way this is episode. What was one ninety one for day. Fifty one which reminds me of area fifty one right. This is the year twenty twenty one. Did i say i'm your host. Jeff ski kinsey. I think i did so one thing that i do during the week is i capture thoughts and notes and ideas that i can't work on during the traditional monday through friday nine to five so to speak but quick reminder. I knock off at noon. On fridays. mo- sales people do in zig ziglar said in sales. Some means everybody should quit less. Course you're in a hospital or healthcare profession or maybe a pilot and there are some exceptions to every rule right but most of us knowledge workers in particular should knock off at five pm. Or i mean twelve noon on friday in make the assumption that Who was jimmy buffett made. It's five o'clock somewhere. Thank a co author on that song. My mind's blank. But i'll look it up and oncluding lincoln the show. How cool that. So what is it. You're working on me. I'm working on some things. And i've got another opportunity to speak coming up next month going to touch on. Php which is a programming language. And its use in alexa skills. That's right as one of the things. I got a business partner in an adventure called. Agile audio dashboards. Tom monteleone and we've got a number of skills created in. Php which is kind of unusual but one of the things that we looked at it and we said well you know how hard it is to find node. j s programmers which is probably the preferred language. at least. It was three years ago for alexa apps. Today i don't know if it's migrated to python yet.

"Number thirty nine of the year. Twenty twenty one say that three times real fast. So what is it works. I about today. Well i'm in the process of relaunching. Something called go live magazine. This amazing company. It was a joint effort a partner. Tom monteleone and i got together back in twenty twelve. Okay that was. I was in july of twenty twelve. So they'll be nine seven nine years coming up in july. Wow but what it was. We created back in. Two thousand twelve was digital magazines for the ipad. In one of our clients went on to produce. I think it was sixty issues right. That's like five years right month in month out to this amazing full color magazine spread. It would run twenty thirty forty. I think they might have had a fifty page episode on more than one month and so month in a month out thing that for five whole years we help create some mazing content and then we obviously at once. We rolled it out. We added the nook kindle and android platforms to it. But i'm in the process of pivoting it to a real news journal around the go live ecosystem if you will both new startups going live. You know hey. I got this idea. Put together team. We bill it. We we executed on the plan and the thing went live into the marketplace. But also it has to do with live events and the news. It's going to help shape what's going on. For example. There was an article on in this morning talking about Treasury secretary yellen said Roses are red in the future. Never looked better thing which is not based on any fact at all. It's a her blowing smoke in 'cause home we won't get political here but others no basis for her assumption that somehow this administration is gonna put the wheels back on the economy. I mean many of us have confidence that could happen and it has more to do with leadership than it has to do with politics. But that's a whole other conversation. But i've been doing some research have a client. That's in the event space and so some of my research said things are really going to start to loosen up in america starting in march. That's kind of inching. Its way there in a few. There's a few places where it would be great to have an event if you're going to have an event in say march or april this year one spot to be florida right. They seem to be doing a number of things right and they have the one of the best handles on the pandemic.

"Wow. What a shock to my system this morning. Are you sitting you sitting down. Amazon hijacks to flash briefing I mean, this is the height of contempt for users. I am I am beside myself. I don't WanNA call it anger. Let's call displeasure. I cannot imagine how stupid you have to be to make this bonehead this wrongheaded decision. I tune in like I do many mornings and I asked for my flash briefing. In Alexa. Domains that I pick a bogus fake news source at the Front of my Fleiss briefing and then and only then was she play the flash briefings that I have selected that I have curated that I have spent days and hours and weeks and months calling down. To this amazing list of insight no that that doesn't count anymore and I tried to say, no, she's offered all kinds of bogus sources. ABS. Arabi C.. N.. B.. C.. A Bloomberg you know all the standard. Crooks. Yeah She is demanding that I pick a news channel and when I refuse I, say none no Nada, not going to happen. She picks one for me of course, one of the most corrupt ones possible but as a whole nother conversation. Could this will not stand K. Amazon Alexa devs are you paying attention? This. This is. If I. I might just start a crowdfunding. Project today if I had one million dollars, I could create a proxy server. That would re route all Alexa traffic to real servers. Okay. Servers. Would not try doing fact. The populace that the only conclusion I can reach is Amazon feel slighted that they are not subpoenaed for election fraud like facebook and twitter. That's the only excellent explanation that I can see that makes any possible sense is we feel cheated let's. Let's try to hack the elections, enforce fake news down the throats. Of our audience every time they tune in to hear flash briefing. If you've got a better explanation. I WANNA. Hear it. Or not. This. This is this is why Tom and I thought of this when we launched Agile Audio dashboards my partner, Tom Monteleone we thought of this and we said look you know, is it safe to build a solution on top of a proprietary platform like Alexa and people would ask us ask us that during our early pitches when we were launching the company. And we always said the good news is we can always go open source or proprietary. If. An when the time comes it. Shoots us in both feet it exactly the same time in that happened this morning when I tried to get my flash briefing. This is Extremely disappointing and so shortsighted. that. It's hard for me to believe that Jeff bezos allowed this move, but if you own a Corrupt News Organization I guess it makes sense that you would try to ram this down people's throats. there's a very good chance. I'm going to Yank the Alexa devices out of my house. Yeah it. It is that frustrating. And obviously, I will not go quietly into that night I am going to let everyone know my displeasure at this. This bold move. To basically. For lack of a better word steal the election I mean what else the timing is so suspect that apparently. They. Think. Well, if you're an Alexa user, you must be clueless. I I am just so frustrated. You cannot imagine. Having, you literally caught me within minutes of trying to get my flames breathing before I made my podcast. So. I'm so excited about voice I got excited about voice back in the early nineteen nineties on the next computer. Okay. So this does no way. Dampened my enthusiasm for voice it just tells me like Google. They deal Amazon cannot be trusted. That is sad so I Apologize For interrupting your regularly. Scheduled podcast and flash briefing. But this is just This is nuts that silly I know how to describe it. So. I will. I will mount some additional comments on linked in in some of the other social media channels but. Amazon beezus. and. And Crew Alexa devs. This, this has been. Your. Worst nightmare this is the thing where you make a stupid tweet jump on a plane and find out. Eight ten twelve hours later you screwed up..

"I belong to back in 2011. I think good friend of mine who recently passed away Becky Toca had a name spirit. I don't know. Well, it's a franchise but she had multiple cities before passing and it's different it's different than the other networking groups. I've been involved with it or have heard of and Frank's got a a fresh perspective on but that might be the perfect way for you to get started and this is an unassuming a franchise opportunity and their spots. Mostly all around the US of a I don't think he's he's licensed in every state but check it out and spirit and I would imagine it's am spirit.com but I don't know that way. If you do a search on Frank Reagan agin am Spirit or just reach out to me, but maybe your startup and that's how I got into the startup world. I started out by buying a franchise. Yep. I get out of the Marine Corps. I goof around for a while. I go to work for this franchise. I ended up buying it off inherited my first employee which was a lot of fun fact recently caught up to her, but the bottom line is small businesses create jobs, and some of them, you know for the last six-plus months. I've been excited about voice first careers. I've been involved in this voice first space for the last four years. It is changing every month. Literally as we speak got a ton of fans across all Industries it is in. In fact, I coined the phrase It's a trademark frictionless intelligence off for this voice for space. It's amazing how much more I get done because of my Alexa device. I have Alexa devices now in most rooms in the house. I have it on my smartphone. I have it on my tablet. I can check my calendar. I can add appointments. I can set reminders. I can do a bunch of stuff. It is phenomenal. But remember off Alexa is not a voice search engine and I get so frustrated. In fact, I think I've logged on this I'd get so as my grandma used to say mad as a wet. Hen, okay. These people comparing Siri in Google which are voice search engines with Alexa, which is an artificial intelligence. Okay. Yep, that's stretching. It only ever-so-slightly. But Alexa doesn't know anything that somebody has not written a skill for Alexa to know off now many of them are what we call first-party skills, which means Amazon itself has written a bunch of these skills. Like when you ask for the weather when when you ask for your news flash briefing that stuff Alexa has developed but my partner and I Tom Monteleone of a jao audio dashboards another one of my Adventures, we've creepy amazing skills..

"Business. Especially today. The dream, manager. Is Sufficiently promoted that book I certainly hope. So Hey, look here's the bottom line you have not because you asked. A great video if anybody has shared in On Lincoln or twitter where we see this video great video of Steve Jobs going to one of the CO founders of Hewlett. Packard. Neighbor of his back in the early days, I think even before apple back when they were doing the. the long distance hacking devices. He needed some parts, visas parts, and so they went to the CO founder. He goes, Hey, he says jamming these laying around. I'm paraphrasing. Sure enough and they'd hit it off and as I understand became friends. You have not because you ask. If you're having trouble, then reach out I took a blank sheet of paper earlier this year back in March and I said, what's it take to fix hiring? Was it take to get America back to work and this is my fourth adventure in what I call workforce procurement. I've done this couple times back nine. I got together with a team of people including Dan that I mentioned earlier, and we built this most amazing job board. It was killing everything else in the field. We had. Ten X, the results were returning ten times. The number of open positions framed by was doing a search with almost no spam. It was a little bit of Spam I. Mean We're like ninety days in in I could not get funded so. In Marta took a blank sheet of paper clean sheet of paper and I said what does hiring look like a creative thing? I called the van hiring model that's a trademark. And I said. What's it look like? In I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's pretty simple not easy, but it's pretty simple. So bottom line is if you're hiring manager in, you need help you got open job reach out. We're going to be launching a new job board here in the next few days. I think it's going to blow you away. It's GonNa. It's amazing. Had some steps at this made some attempts not been happy with anything, but we're also going to have a voice component to it. Tom And I'm a partner Tom Monteleone we have a thing called Agile audio dashboards we still create. Alexa skills playing around with bixby capsules but. Still have our hand in that space but this. "So, What's new in the world of? In the year twenty twenty. A Lot. But first. Let me give a out in all clued Lincoln is show notes. Yesterday was an amazing event. Twi- Leo. This company that does let's call telephony. In power is much of the communications that goes on via the Internet. We use telephony. We use twilla in fact in a number of skills. That my partner. Tom, Monteleone and I do at Agile Audio dashboards. Tom And I got excited about the voice space where both. Recovering commercial software developers of over thirty years. In about three years ago, we were. Baton some ideas around. It's like hey. This is what we call. This voice I base looks like it's going to be something, so we jumped into it. and. Long Story Short I've been using Twi- Leo about nine years. Tom Even a little bit longer. They. They. Brought in this Angela I'm not sure how you pronounce your last name. She was brought in and twenty fourteen to apple. To. Reevaluate Readjust Rian Vinegar. Invigorate the retail space. A? She sends left Apple. But She was interviewed by George. Who at Twi-? Leo I think he's the COO. In great forty minutes I think it's the best forty minutes on the on the Internet this week. And if you're into retail, and you want to see my notes on it, shoot me an email or again the best way always to contact me as pick up your mobile phone and dial pound, two five zero and say contact ski man, and I'll get back to you within twenty four hours Monday through Friday. Sometimes, Saturday! But hiring managers. What are you need to know well? Here's the cool thing I'm going to start interviewing. Some people must start hiring. Some people have hiring managers for the podcast. That has some great insights to share with you. That align with our business model when I called the then hiring model. This overlap of these three circles. How. A if you're a hiring manager, you find the right talent, and if you're a talent how you find the right Gig whether short term long term somewhere in between. By connecting with voice, I out careers. So hiring managers. If you've got a great story to tell how you've reinvented your process. In light of what I'm calling the twenty twenty recovery that may be, it'd be a great. Guest for me to interview on the PODCAST, so do reach out again. Reach out to me at pound two five zero contact scheme. But what does it mean to be a manager in this day and age? Well, it depends on the sector. You're in right. This. Live cast twilla did was about the retail space. With obviously looks different. In this probably the most different not I mean hospitality probably more so. But retail definitely. Took it on the chin. And so. What's a hiring manager to do? A. There's been a lot of layoffs right. But they're still key functions that need done in many businesses, especially those that are reopening. And you may have had the let some of those people go. So now, what? How do you get him back? Or how do you get back the best of the best? Some of those people that were very good probably landed somewhere else. Yeah that's right. Hiring is a very expensive proposition, even in the best of times. And yes, it somewhat of a buyer's market, right? The talent trying to sell themselves on on you hiring them. There's a lot there's a lot of talent out there, but you need to figure out what the best of the best is. You need to find the a players. We teach and preach in the startup world. You cannot afford to hire the be player, and definitely not seared the. You have to hire the a player or your startup is doomed. If, not in the short term in the very near term. So If, you're hiring manager I've got some insight. I'd love to share with you. Reach out to me. And again if you've got something that's working and you want to share it with the world at large. In fits inside our model I'd love to interview you for a program so. In just a PS for talent out there if you're looking for that next GIG and your software developer in particular I have some people you need to talk to reach out to me as well again thou pound two five zero and say contact scheme. Yes, we have a website, voice I at careers in a keep throwing data up there. So that you can gather some information. This came up on link to and the other day. The late Dr L. E.. Gold Goldenrod said data's all the stuff. That's out there the sea. Of quote information, but he said really information is the answer to your question. The subset when you ask a very pointed question. If you get an answer. That's information. That's something you can value and use and so. Just don't add that just throwing that out there for what it's worth remember. It's going to be just.

"This by the way is episode. Eleven H. And what's the H mead? How do you do it? No H stands for hiring managers. This is aimed directly at hiring managers across the country. We we only operate in the United States of America. That's our lake so to speak and on one side of the lake in our recruiting staffing hiring model. One side of the lake. Has You the hiring manager? The other side the opposite shore has what we call talent the players and nothing but the players and then patrolling the lake to keep the evil cat. Birds of the world away is of course voice. I dot careers. So what's all that mean? It means is a different way. The find the talent that you need for the jobs. You're trying to get done. That's right we want you to reach out to us. We want to have an old fashioned conversation. We want to talk on the phone. Or maybe saved trade some text messages. That's right Good FRIEND OF MINE. One of my heroes. Tanya Ross calls it a porch conversation. He'll let's sit on the back porch. Have a conversation about what is going to take to fill those critical roles you have and having particular in the voice I development space. Can you need some very talented developers? My partner Tom Monteleone in another adventure called Agile Audio Day sports we hired and tried to hire we subcontract and we joint ventured a number projects and we spent a lot of money on people that could not actually deliver and that was kind of the the force behind me launching this as an entity. Tom Is not a partner in it although I did offering the chance. His plate is full as we say. But that that disconnect between developers that no a language node J or Python and also have done two factor authentication that is a very select group of individuals or talent as we call them where we have access to them and we can help you find more. So if you're in the voice I development space to win some cool stuff and you're trying to get some skills in elects or the bixby marketplace. Then you WANNA reach out to us. Reach out to me and the best way to do that is grab your mobile phone and dial pound two five zero and at the prompt say contact ski man. Those three words their magic. That's your silver bullet to filling those positions. Sooner rather than later in fact will be rolling out soon. I mean we're only fifty seven days old this particular startup. We'RE GONNA BE ROLLING OUT PRETTY soon. The seven minute guaranteed higher. Think about that. What if it took you seven whole minutes to hire the absolute best player the player for that position that you have available? That's our business model. We want to connect you with the talent. Prequalified prescreened somebody with the credentials. You can look at them and say boom. How do I get on my staff today? Then in our model you go to the HR department and you tell Hey. I need this person. I need him today. What's IT GONNA take to get them hired today? Guess what you're probably get some pushback right. You expect that. Then we've got some ideas on how you can get around any roadblock or any one who's blocking the road to getting the talent that you need with their boots on the ground probably virtually in many cases especially given the virus situation. We've got answers for that because I've been at this a long time of hired. Hundreds of people fulltime employees contract employs temp to hire you name it staffing companies. A bender done that been on both sides of the lake and so now I can patrol it with confidence that I can connect you with the right people so again. Reach out to me. Say Pick up your mobile phone pound two five zero in say contact ski man. Those three words are your key and remember. It's going to be just about as great a day as you make up your mind to make it so join me and make it a great one..

"He this is Jeff Ski Kinsey with voice. I dot careers as right when you were born. You probably like most of us led out this amazing screen fast. As as explosion of sound right in at some point it became a voice. You know at some age begin to talk well in the world of technology especially in these times voice is everything voice is what. I like to call. Friction Lewis Intelligence. And so how do you launch a startup launch? Any new idea. Will you solve a problem that you personally are wrestling with and the toughest thing that one of my business partner Tom Monteleone? We created something little over two years ago called Agile Audio Day sports and one of the toughest things we did with staff for skill development. What Alexa calls skills by the way big because capsules that was that was a nightmare? So we pivoted that business into a resale organization so basically we got our development business for the most part. There's still some odds and ends but we resell the efforts of others when this process and with the meltdown all of a sudden I saw some amazing talent. What I call the eighteen or the a player you heard referred to I seen these amazing developers getting let go from voice I companies. That hadn't figured out how to monetize their efforts so I said look. This is a natural. I've actually been three attempts before created or helped create something in the recruiting space in work co work force procurement hiring staffing recruiting. And so. I did it in two thousand nine after the meltdown of two thousand eight in I put together team. We created amazing job board but we couldn't get any funding. Well guess what fast forward to the year twenty twenty. This virus thing has got everyone's attention. It's changing all the rules. And so what did I discover? Woke up the other morning and it's like Oh Jeez it is plain as the nose on my face. The whole hiring process has been broke for number of years. The eight T S.'s applicant tracking systems. Have abused the I guess. The talents trust and made in made promises that they the. Ats providers have made promises to the HR departments. They just cannot keep which time to tear that model completely down to the ground and start over. And that's what we're doing with voice. I dot careers. That's the website. It's also this podcast so I'm going to encourage you to tune.
